Essay on Saint Augustine
Saint Augustine was born on 354 CE in Tagaste, Africa.
His given name was Aurelius Augustinus. His father was
Patricius, a pagan who was baptized Christian before he
died, and his mother was Monica, a baptized Christian with
an influential role in the life of her son. Augustine is
regarded as one of the most intelligent Christian theologians
and bishops of all time. His works and actions have left a
major imprint on the Church and its doctrine.
As a boy, Augustine was not baptized and grew up in the
Roman Empire. He studied under the local schoolmasters
in Tagaste until he turned fifteen and moved to continue his
studies in Madaurus. From Madaurus, he moved to
Carthage for advanced studies in rhetoric and law. It was in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Augustine s model for his ministry
was St. Paul and he found St. Paul as a mentor. In Hippo,
he set up a monastery for the sake of training new priests.
With Augustine s many contributions to Hippo, Bishop
Valerius requested Augustine to become his Co adjutire. A
year later, Valerius passed away and Augustine became the
Bishop of Hippo.
While Augustine was bishop, he wrote some of his greatest
works, which still survive today. The first of these is
Confessions, where he thanked God for changing him, and
he also revealed how he struggled with himself, his sexual
nature, self will and his pride. He presented his positions on
incarnation and the Trinity. Confessions were both his
biography and also his presentation of his ideas. This book
was written with the hope that others will experience
conversion to Christianity and how he, Augustine, felt on
his way towards conversion.
City of God is another great work of Augustine which he
showed that Rome fell because it was a quot;City of Earth quot; and
not because of Christianity and he Christians. The City of
God emerged from God s love while Rome, the quot;City of
Earth quot; emerged from the love of self. This was the
dominant theme in the story. Augustine also critiqued
Greco Roman culture drawing from the greatest historians
and writers of the period. He pointed out the degradation
of Roman standards of conduct, life patterns or style and
sexual behaviors. Contrasting the Roman

Stereotypes Of Women In The 21st Century
In the early 21st century, women s activist groups have been becoming a more and more prominent
sight in modern day society, but whilst nowadays, they are common sight, prior to the 20th century, it
was impossible for women to vote or run for office in Canada, as well as many other countries
(Stoddart, 2016). Knowing this, it raises the question, why were women fine with such standards for
1900 years? The answer to this question revolves around social conventions. Social conventions are
unwritten rules in society that are treated as the norm and as such, can be misinterpreted as the right
thing to do, making them very hard to oppose. However, in truth, following social norms is not always
the correct thing to do. Budge Wilson s short ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, where Elizabeth is being treated poorly by her husband, I was being treated poorly by a
bully. In modern society, victims of bullying are known for enduring the abuse silently until the
situation miraculously resolves from a change in locations. As such, bullies do not pose a large
problem if the victim will change locations within 1 or 2 years; however, in my case, I shared classes
with the perpetrator for 6 years. Over the course of those years, he progressively made a greater
impact in my life to the point that I felt scared of seeing my friends if it meant confronting the bully.
This seriously affected my happiness and contributed to stress/anxiety until his taunts had built up
enough anger in me to cause physical contact. The trigger incident for this was that he had slapped me
twice as a joke, but in return, I grabbed his shirt and dragged him until he stopped resisting.
Eventually I let him go, but as a result of my resistance, he has ceased to attack me since then. Had I
followed social conventions, I would have spent the rest of the year stressed out and bottling my
emotions, which has been scientifically proven to increase health risks and statistically shorten life
spans (Gustafson, 2016). This situation is almost identical to the one in the The Leaving, as in both
our scenarios, the victim is abused by the perpetrator for years until the victim is distressed to the
point that they are forced to take a stand. Additionally, both of our struggles help stop the abuse,
proving that in certain situations, it is indeed worth challenging a social norm rather than following it.
As such, we can conclude that following social expectations is not always the right thing to

King Hatshepsut Accomplishments
We can call her Queen or, as she would like to be known as King Hatshepsut had made her mark and
ruled during the eighteenth Dynasty Egypt for over twenty years. She was born the eldest daughter of
King Tuthmosis the first and later on married her half brother Tuthmosis the second to become one of
the most remarkable women in Egyptian history. Although she was a female she became the epitome
of the male role, often seen as an ordinary woman and as a man, dressed in men s clothing, carrying
the male accessories even shown wearing the false beard of the pharaohs. If she had been born a man,
her long reign of Egypt would be remembered for its achievements such as solidifying a stable

Assessment of Products and Services of Starbucks Coffee
CHAPTER I The Problem and the Review of Related Literature A coffeehouse, coffee shop or café
(French/Spanish/ Portuguese: café; Italian: café) shares some of the characteristics of a bar and some
of the characteristics of a restaurant, but it is different from a cafeteria. As the name suggests,
coffeehouses focus on providing coffee and tea as well as light snacks. Food choices range from
pastries and muffins to soups and sandwiches. From a cultural standpoint, coffeehouses largely serve
as centers of social interaction: that provides social members with a place to congregate, talk, write,
read, entertain one another, or pass time, whether individually or in small groups. The coffee shop
industry was starting to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The trick is to broaden appeal without stretching operations too thin. More chain operators will
probably aim for a middle ground between the in and out coffee bar and the full fledged coffee house.
The type of food that the beverage retailers plan to add to their offerings is the key to these
distinctions. The café is a place where someone can have a cup of coffee while reading newspaper, or
talk to a friend, and then get on with it (Restaurant Business vol. 96, 1996). Metro Manila is currently
being swept by a coffee drinking epidemic, and yuppies and young people are filling coffee places that
have introduced previously unknown coffee blends from all over the world. According to Norman
Koplas in his book A Cup of Coffee, more than a third of the world s people drink coffee today, and
that probably includes us, although we are not on the radar screen as an important coffee producer
despite the fact that many of us swear by the barako from Batangas. The following account is derived
from the book of Koplas, who has written about food in the New York Times and the International
Herald Tribune. By the 16th century, coffee drinking was widespread in the Arab world. Coffeehouses
became more popular than mosques, leading to their closure in Mecca, Cairo and Constantinople.
Coffeehouses came to Europe in the 17th century. In 1650, coffeehouses first opened in

Disadvantages Of International Trust Law
The International Trust Law (No. 69/1992) legislation facilitates the formation and administration of
an international trust. The law built on the existing Cyprus trust legislation of 1995 (The Trustees Law,
CAP. 193). The amendment of Cyprus trust legislation introduces innovative provisions and provides
considerable incentives for the establishment of trusts in Cyprus. Furthermore, Cyprus becomes an
attractive centre for international trusts. As a result, new investment opportunities have emerged.
Trust is defined as a legal relationship created when an individual (the Settlor ) places assets under the
responsibility and control of an individual (the Trustee ) for the benefit of some other person or people

The Foreclosure Of The Last Couple Years
Foreclosure in the last couple years has become a well known word to a lot of young people, and has
become more frequent in the last couple of years. My family has gone through the process and it was a
very emotional time for us all. The only home my family was able to get into was one that could be
rented with the option to buy. Having more homes in the market that have that option makes it not
only more convenient, but more affordable for families like mine who have gone through foreclosure.
Giving possible tenants the option to rent towards owing is a great way to get the housing market back
on track. People who are struggling financially cannot afford to just buy a home. Allowing people the
option to rent towards buying, takes some of the stress off the tenants and allows longer time to come
up with the money, which means less people getting evicted or foreclosed on. The less people that are
foreclosed on, the better the market for homes will be. Currently the market is great for anyone who is
financially stable to purchase any home that has a foreclosure sign out front. If the option rent to own
was made more available the people looking for homes, then it would allow them to save more money
until they were financially stable to either buy the home, or move to another affordable location. The
owners who do offer the rent to own option are not only allowing the tenants time to come to a more
stable financial state, but are making money themselves. If the

The Invention Of Hugo Cabaret By Brian Selznick
The Invention Of Hugo Cabaret Image Evaluation The invention of Hugo Cabaret, an award winning
book by Brian Selznick. In a successful attempt to create a movie/book feeling, he replaced 158 pages
of words with pictures. This picture, depicted on pages 118 119, caught my eye because it effectively
contributes to the development of the narrative. It relates to Hugo s father, who is a minor character,
but the picture perfectly correlates with the description provided in the pages. This image is a
flashback from Hugo s mind. It shows that Hugo s father, can t stop thinking about the automaton
even at work. In the picture, Selznick has cleverly managed to convey the mood of Hugo s father.
Selznick produces this by using, body language and facial expression, which is my first criteria. He
draws the character to show that Hugo s father is absorbed in what he is doing, which shows his
passion towards his job and the automaton. His body language is portrayed in the way he handles the
mechanical part in his hands. As you can see he is handling the part delicately indicating that it is
fragile. This also shows that Hugo s father is a very skilled but kind and caring person. ... Show more

To what extent do the objects in the room add meaning to the story? This is my 2nd criteria. According
to the text, it was built by Hugo. Selznick has drawn the animals there to emphasise that Hugo and his
father had a strong relationship. This also shows that the image perfectly fits in to the book and it is in
the right place because it perfectly, correlates with the text. It also adds extra meaning to the words
helping the reader comprehend what the story is about and helps the reader understand who Hugo s

Equal Rights Amendment Pros And Cons
The influential Phyllis Schlafly used her platform against the Equal Rights Amendment to emphasize
that the possibility of having equal rights between men and women would be destructive and
antifamily . Schlafly found the amendment to be disturbing when the ERA gained a strong support
system for its adoption; nevertheless, she started the STOP ERA movement in order to stress the
importance of having a traditional family in America. The primary purpose of the amendment was to
prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender in the United States (S L 103). The support of this
amendment was because women felt that they were being institutionally discriminated by the
patriarchal dominance. The idea that women who were wives and mothers had to be supported by
their husbands and work exclusively in their home was played out. Many women wanted to ... Show

In Schlafly s interview with Washington Star, she stated that the ERA would take away our laws that
are entitled to reflect the natural differences and the role assigned by God (S L 105). These laws that
she is referring to is the sanctity of the husband supporting his wife and family, praising God, and
husbands paying alimony to wives. If the ERA was passed, the woman would have to support the
family and pay for the same things men would pay, which should not happen; it is deemed
unconstitutional and disorderly in terms of tradition and the country s original conservative principles
that the man is the provider. It would also challenge the Christian heritage if Americans themselves are
losing their faith in God. Christianity is not prohibited in many public places, but it would be against
the First Amendment to pass a law that could potentially prohibit the exercise of the Christian faith in
households and in America, which would be

This master thesis addresses the data mining area known as closed itemset mining. The work
programme includes analysis a number of well known algorithms from the literature, and then
modifying these algorithms in order to optimize their performance by reduce the number of frequent

Data mining is the procedure of getting new patterns from large amount of data. Data mining is a
procedure of finding of beneficial information and patterns from huge data. It is also called as
knowledge discovery method, knowledge mining from data, knowledge extraction or data/ pattern
analysis. The main goal from data mining is to get patterns that were already unknown. The useful of
these patterns are found they can be used to make certain decisions for development of their
businesses. Data mining aims to discover implicit, already unknown, and potentially useful
information that is embedded in data.
Frequent itemsets play an main role in a lot of data mining tasks that try to get interesting patterns in

Reflection Paper On Pastor
INTERVIEW PAPER
I really enjoyed executing this interview. It was a privilege to be able to include my interviewee in my
assignment, as he has been supporting my decision to further my education and proceed with my
calling through Christ. Bill Kidd has been an associate pastor for over 7 years at Bethel Baptist
Church. Pastor Kidd was in school at the same time as myself and we always were able to connect and
relate to each other whenever we got together at meetings or other gatherings. I look up to and respect
his achievement in ministry and I am looking forward to learning from him as I pursue my role in
ministry.
My first question to pastor Bill was that interested me greatly, especially as I compared it to the
personal experience I had with God s call on my life. I asked about his experience with how and why
he was called into ministry. His story was captivating, like myself, his wife felt the tug before he did.
This call seems close to my own as my wife brought it to my attention before I realized what God was
doing. When reflecting on this situation I think about Mark 4:24, And he said to them, Pay attention to
what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to
you.
The second question I inquired about dealt with a dictatorship. This enticed him to confess his past
mistakes he had made regarding this subject. Pastor Bill found out that before he could point fingers
and focus on others, he first had to deal with his

Jesse Owens Thesis
In 1936, against a backdrop of swastikas flying and storm troopers goose stepping, an African
American son of sharecroppers won a staggering four Olympic gold medals and single handedly
crushed Hitler s myth of Aryan supremacy. The story of Jesse Owens at the 1936 Berlin Olympics is
that of an athletic performance that transcends sports. It is an intimate and complex tale of the courage
of one remarkable man. It is also the story of the American movement to boycott the games, which
nearly succeeded, and of the Nazis efforts to use the Olympics as a showcase for their new American
Culture.

Throughout his travels around the United States, competing in the name of Ohio State, Owens was
also met with continuous racism and scrutiny. By the end of his tour, he was obviously physically
drained, but mentally drained as well. Being in the public eye for so long, rumors started to pop up,
and Owens became distracted. However, after some rest, he regained his form. He competed in the
United States Olympic Trials on Randall s Island, in New York City. By the time the Ebony Antelope
(as one of many adoring newspapermen had anointed him) was ready for Berlin, his success was
practically guaranteed. The real drama of Schaap s book comes in the politically fractious run up to
Berlin. From the start, American participation in the 1936 games was controversial. A boycott was
afoot based on reports of Nazi hostility to Jews, but was thwarted by the president of the American
Olympic Committee who dismissed the actions of the Third Reich as irrelevant. At the Games, the
subplots and intrigue continued. Owens was befriended by a stereotypically Aryan rival, broad jumper
Luz Long, who helped Owens win the gold medal at his own expense. Long offered some friendly
advice, clearly embodying the Olympic spirit rather than showing his Aryan superiority. Two Jewish
sprinters were denied the chance to compete for the United States at the last possible moment, most
likely out of misguided deference to the Nazi hosts. A myth was born that Hitler had snubbed Owens
by failing to congratulate him. Owens eventually went on to win four gold medals in the 100 and 200
meter sprints, the long jump, and the 4x100 meter relay, tying an Olympic record for individual
medals won in a single

Play By Anita Act 2 Analysis
1) Misto motivation to write to play was that five decades the Government was silence about the
Women s incarceration and their horrific experiences inside the prison camps. The fact that the nurses
were not recognised for their contributions in WW2, made Misto more frustrated and motivated to
write the play. He wanted to build a memorial to commemorate the works of the women but did not
have the power to build one, and therefore it he wrote a play instead.
2) The historical context of the play is based on WW2, as the Japanese forces invaded Singapore in
1941. (Which was one of Britain s treasures at the time). Australian and British forces worked together
to fight of the Japanese from advancing. As a result of this war many people were captured by the
Japanese forces and put into POW camps, (especially women and children), where they were tortured

to share her experiences. On the other hand, the motel generates a different tension as emotional

suffering, through a very personal and emotional story of two women that have kept their experiences

We Have Not Long To Love Mood
Research Paper and Poem Analysis: Tennessee Williams We Have Not Long To Analyze This Poem
Remember a time when the adrenaline ran through you, speeding your every movement, and the
nervous feeling that overtook your entire body. Now remember a time when you felt relaxed and calm,
like the clock stopped and time stood still. Now, as strange as it sounds, imagine those two feelings
combining. This surreal state seems to describe the mood of the twenty line poem We Have Not Long
to Love by playwright and poet Tennessee Williams. This poem reflects that feeling when you know
there s no time and you must act quickly, but time seems not to move. The word choice, in the
beginning, reflects a rushed feeling We have not long to love. / Light does not stay. (Williams 1 2).
Then the poem suddenly changes the mood to relaxed, like there s enough time for anything, In
silence I have watched you / comb your hair. (7 8). Further statements, I could but did not, reach / to
touch your arm. / I could, but do not, break / that which is still. (11 14) give the impression that he is

of an rhythm cracking line break after the word break . (Almost the faintest whisper / would be shrill.)

twenty five years old in 1558 and reigned successfully from November 17, 1558 to March 24, 1603, a
total of forty four years. Elizabeth was born at Greenwich Palace in England to King Henry VII and
Anne Boleyn on September 7th, 1533. Less than three years later, Anne Boleyn was arrested, charged,
and executed because she could not bear Henry a son. Twelve days later, Henry married Jane
Seymour, and she gave birth to Prince Edward, the long awaited male heir, in October of 1537.

was involved in several plots to kill Elizabeth, so she was imprisoned in 1567. Despite her attempts to

years.
Many suitors were available to Elizabeth, but she chose not to marry and had no interest in sharing her
power with a husband. This earned her the nickname the Virgin Queen. She built herself up as a queen
married to her people. Even though she worked hard, Elizabeth loved the arts. She enjoyed music,
watching plays, and dancing. Many artists painted her portrait, and these paintings show that she loved
clothing and jewelry. Elizabeth also wore makeup to help her look extremely pale. This makeup
unfortunately contained white lead and vinegar, which most likely caused her health problems.
Toward the end of Elizabeth s reign, England faced many struggles such as unemployment and
inflation. Because of failed crops and food shortages, there were riots and rebellions. Elizabeth sent
the Earl of Essex, Robert Devereaux, to squash rebellions in Ireland, but instead started his own
rebellion which caused him to be executed for treason in

Manorialism During The High Middle Ages
Manorialism was an economic structure during the high middle ages that consisted of a lord and his
vassals who served him and his wife. The serfs had more rights than slaves but they were tied to the
land of their lord even when their land was captured by another lord. Unlike slaves, serfs could keep
some of their crops and maintain their own family. Cottagers ranked below serfs and were only given
cottage and a small plot of land to work on. At the top of the working class were freeholders. These
peasants owned their own land and were not subjects of a lord. Peasants would work the fields
together as a family regardless of sex or age, although mostly men worked with the heavy plows and
women wove clothes during the least demanding seasons. The lands ... Show more content on

Sometimes the wife of the lord would preside over the peasants when the lord was away waging war,
indicating some gender equality. Feudalism originated around the ninth century around the collapse of
the Carolingian empire and aided in the rise of manorialism. During these times of anarchy, people
fought alongside warlords to seek protection from invaders. Invaders like the Vikings frequently
raided villages and churches for silver and food that severely damaged the Carolingian empire, which
proved that the bonds between warlords and their followers were stronger than the bond between the
king and his subjects. Eventually, warlords became lords and their followers became their vassals
through an oath and a special ceremony where the vassal kneeled down in front of the lord. Under this
oath, a vassal swore loyalty to their lord while the lord in return offered protection for the vassal.
Vassals would sometimes fight for their lord and help conquer the land of other lords, and help their
lord become the lord of other lords. In return for their services they were granted a fief, or a plot of
land. Knights would often rent out their land to

21. Suppose that there are two fishing companies who are behaving non cooperatively. Assume that
the two sides can send out 1 or 2 fleets each; and the more fleets in the area. The more fish they catch,
but the lower the catch of each fleet. The matrix below shows the profits per week earned by the two

One company (Company A) will have a higher profit if it sends out two fleets ($12 000) rather than

Company A will have a higher profit if it also sends out two fleets ($ 7 500 rather than $4 000). The

The Moment I Walked Into St. Mary s Cathedral
From the moment I walked into St. Mary s Cathedral, I felt out of place. I thought that I would know
what to expect since I have gone to Lutheran churches my entire life. To start with, I was unsure what
to do with the font of holy water when I walked to into the cathedral. I later found out that people who
enter are supposed to dip their fingers in it, and they are to make the sign of the cross with their
fingers. Then as I saw others approach their pews they did some sort of one legged kneel before sitting
down, which I unsuccessfully attempted. Once the service started, I became increasingly lost. I have
grown accustomed to following along to the liturgy in either a bulletin or a book, but there were
neither to be found. The priest would say phrases from his service book, and then everyone in the
congregation would respond with what I assume to be memorized responses. The only times I
absolutely knew what was going on was during the hymns and the readings due to both of these being
in the hymnals in the pews. To make matters worse, there were various portions of the worship service
such as the Apostles Creed or the Lord s Prayer where I thought I knew what to say, but the wording
would end up different. Finally, I had heard before that Catholics kneel a lot during services, but I was
not prepared at all for the length of kneeling that occurred once the priest started the part of the service
related to the Eucharist, better known to me as Holy Communion.

Diabetes Self-Related Study Examples
CHAPTER 5: Discussion A gap in knowledge exists in the understanding of the influence of risk
perception on adherence to treatments related to diabetes. The purpose of this explanatory, descriptive
study was to address the perceptions of risk and its relationship with self care adherence in those with
T2DM. This discussion is structured to address the major findings found within the results of the three
aims of this study, which were the following: Aim 1: To quantitatively describe risk perception in
persons with T2DM. Aim 2: To describe levels of adherence for diabetes self care behaviors, including
medication use, diet, exercise, foot care, smoking, and self monitoring of blood glucose. Aim 3: To
examine the relationship between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Risk perception was separated into those opposing constructs for this study because of previous
research on the topic (Fischoff et al., 1978; Slovic et al., 2007) and the desire to have study questions
that the general public could comprehend. Moreover, optimism bias has been noted in previous risk
perception research (Walker et al., 2003), and the harm and benefit perception questions asked in this
particular study could elicit similar biases. Previous research has indicated risk perception differed
between different races/ethnicities (Slovic, 2007). It was decided to not include race as a control
variable in this study because of the location of the sample, which would yield such a small proportion
of non white respondents as to render responses meaningless and/or difficult to interpret. Therefore,
future research could explore both if race and if location influences risk perception and adherence to
treatments.

Compensation For Organs
Compensation to Donors for Organs
The sale of human organs in return for compensation is a very controversial topic. It is also illegal in
most countries; however, it is not uncommon for organs of the deceased or living to be sold on what is
known as a black market of organ trading/selling. Curdling Ireland stated Is a global market for organ
sales the answer? Can a for profit system exist, save lives, and still not exploit the poor? (Harvard
Gazette, 2008) this is a question that has been brought to the highest judicial system in many countries
to be discussed further. The courts focus on the immoral and ethical issues with making the sale
organs legal in their countries. This results in the illegal practice of selling organs for compensation. ...

This would not only reduce the amount of deaths each year of individuals who are on the waiting list

that a patient on the organ transplant list receives their organ is from a deceased individual who has
agreed to donating their organs before their death, or the family or spouse has agreed to donate the
organs of the deceased individual on their behalf. These facts are convincing and has the reader
pondering the thought why do donors not receive compensation? There are many individuals who
believe that there should continue to be absolutely no compensation to individuals who are willing to
donate an organ. The topic of exploiting the poor who would justify selling one if not two organs in

and time again. This dilemma has resulted in what is known as the black market sale of organs, donors
and patients are what make up the black market. You have a vendor who could be a surgeon, or a

Design Of Reliable And Effective Damage Detection Techniques
Problem Definition
Composite materials and structures are particularly attractive for aerospace applications due to their
high stiffness, high strength and low weight properties. The use of such structures allows for an
overall aircraft mass reduction, reduced fuel consumption and increased service life resulting in a
reduction in aircraft operating costs.
Early detection of damage within composite structures is of prime importance to safety and reliability.
When a void is present, internal stresses in the material are not distributed evenly, resulting in high
stress concentrations around the area where the damage has occurred. In general the presence of
defects results in poor structural performance, decreased load carrying ... Show more content on

Shape memory alloys, optical fibres, piezoelectric and magnetostrictive materials currently represent
the most suitable options for smart structural applications. Piezoelectric and magnetostrictive
materials have both sensing and actuation capabilities.
With the recent development of magnetostrictive material (Terfenol D) in particle form it is possible to
embed or surface bond a smart layer in composites structures without sacrificing their mechanical
properties while exploiting the larger strain as compared to the use of piezoelectric materials. [3][[4]
demonstrated the feasibility of sensing delaminations in composite laminates using embedded
magnetostrictive particle layers, [5] use a magnetostrictive patch to sense for multiple delaminations.
Configurations employed so far make use of external sensors and offline inspections. This paper
proposes a magnetostrictive sensor configuration for an online, structural integrity monitoring system.
Background
Magnetostriction
Magnetostriction is a property of ferromagnetic materials that exhibit a mechanical strain in response
to an applied external magnetic field. This effect is a reversible exchange of energy between the
mechanical and the magnetic form. Magnetostriction was first described in 1842 by James Joule after
he observed that a sample of

Ever since I can remember, school has been the main importance in my life. My father always told me

younger students with their experience there and also everything I could to make my experience
enjoyable. After the eighth grade, I came to Fairfield High School. I was told to get into as many clubs
as possible because it would make my high school experience that much better. After my freshman
year, I realized that those people were right about joining clubs.
People always ask me how I like going to school at Fairfield. I always reply saying something along
the lines of, It s an amazing school with a lot of great people in it. There are many ways that a student

The Consequences Of Success In Animal Farm, By George Orwell
Success is an iceberg. What you see on the surface is never the full story. Success can also be very
destructive. In the beginning, it seems harmless but the more that is exposed, the more you uncover
how many consequences come with it. In George Orwell s, Animal Farm, He writes about the
struggles endured throughout the rises and falls of the characters in the book. Animal Farm was
always doomed to fail because the absolute power corrupted the pigs, the uneducated animals were
easily manipulated, and the commandments ended up only applying to the lower class animals. As the
pigs began to take over the farm they got power hungry. They would sit and order the other animals
around as Orwell explains in the following quote, The pigs did not actually work, but directed and
supervised the others. With their superior knowledge it was natural that they should assume the
leadership. This was the start of the pigs takeover. They were beginning to rule the whole farm
without regarding any of the other animal s opinions. The pigs assumed that they were more equal
than other animals and began to abuse this. Since Squealer was excellent at speaking in a way in
which everyone would agree, he used this to his advantage. In one of his speeches Squealer said,
Comrades! You do not imagine, I hope, that we pigs are doing this in a spirit of selfishness and
privilege? Many of us actually dislike milk and apples.... Day and night we are watching over your
welfare. It is for your sake that we

The Ballad Of The White Horse
In The Ballad of the White Horse by G. K. Chesterton one of the main characters is King Alfred of
England, the legendary savior of England from the invading Danes. The book is set in the ninth
century AD. He is accompanied in battle by Eldred, a Saxon farmer, as well as Mark, a Roman, and
Colan, a Celt. While Alfred originally feels despair over his efforts to drive away the Danes, the
Blessed Virgin Mary appears to him in a vision and tells him that he is to continue. G. K. Chesterton
named the book after a symbol in England, a white horse cut out chalk that must constantly be cleaned
of encroaching weeds. To him, it symbolizes Christianity s struggle against eroding pagan forces. The
ballad questions and discusses the opposing worldviews ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One group of Danes, represented by Harold, went into battle and conquered in the hopes of gaining
earthly pleasures, without regard for others. Another group, represented by Elf, kept alive the old tales
of the gods, but despaired at the real presence of sin and inevitable destruction. Taking a dark spin on
this, Ogier believes in total destruction and hatred of creation as the forces that drive the world.
Guthrum rejects all three views, but does not know what to replace them with, revealing his lack of
understanding of the meaning of life. However, Alfred answers all three views in his harp song of the
Christian worldview. Harold s false pleasures are compared to the simple joy of the monk and Elf s
despair is opposed to the perseverance and ultimate hope of the Christians though defeated. In
addition, Ogier s idea of hatred of creation as the driving force of the universe is disproved by Alfred
quoting God calling creation good, and he is told that this destruction will lead to an end of the Danes,
because only Christians will protect civilization. King Alfred s song also compares King Guthrum to
himself, stating that

What Is Frankenstein Sublime
The Romantic period, an era bursting with art and literature, was home to many great writers, writers
such as Percy Bysshe Shelley, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Mary Shelley. One
can imagine that among the many topics that preoccupied the many different works and ideas of these
Romantic poets and writers was the Romantic conception of sublime, or idea of being able to connect
to one s own experiences of awe and other emotions like those of terror or even danger. The writers
and poets of the Romantic era would no doubt have been familiar with this concept. In fact, this the
Romantic conception of sublime shows up repeatedly throughout Mary Shelley s work, Frankenstein.

Tintern Abbey, the sounding cataract haunted him like a passion: the tall rock, the mountain, and the
deep and gloomy wood, their colours and their forms, were then to him an appetite; a feeling, and a
love that had no need of remoter charm, by thought supplied, or any interest unborrow d from the eye
(Shelley 113). When reflecting back on the excerpt from Tintern Abbey one is able to recognize that it
speaks of solitude through nature, which parallels to way that Shelley has Victor go off on his escapes
or his long periods of solitude where he is surrounded by nature. In his poem, Wordsworth is able to
paint an ominous scene in nature, mainly by the use of the words gloomy and haunted, which his

Why Was Mexico So Much Poorer Than The United States
Why was Mexico so much poorer than the United States in the 1980s? Most economists would answer
this question by pointing to Mexico s boom and bust cycles, and the United States pattern of relatively
stable growth. These cycles occur in Mexico because of political instability and the fluctuation of
capital availability. This answer is not wrong, but it is incomplete. Behind economics and politics,
geography looms, tying political science and economics together. Geography, more than any other
factor, explains why the United States in the 1980s was so rich and Mexico was so poor. The United
States and Mexico together take up the majority of the habitable lands of North America. In 1763, the
Viceroyalty of New Spain controlled most of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The income disparity between them and the core then causes insurrections to arise. This makes the
maintenance of a professional standing army of a fairly substantial size necessary. It also means that in
times of political instability in the center, the areas around the core tend to either break away
temporarily (best case scenario) or become staging points for assaults on the core (worst case
scenario). The second weakness of the core lies in its elevation. As a result of its elevation, it is
difficult for Mexico to economically integrate with the rest of the world or even to create internal
economies of scale that connect the core to the surrounding states. For example, it was not until 1877
that the first rail line between Mexico City and its main port of Veracruz was completed. This means
that, although the Mexico City core will always be heavily populated, it is incapable of generating
large sums of capital. To the north, across the Chihuahua, Sonora, and Baja deserts, sit the fertile,
capital rich lands of Louisiana, California, and East Texas. Of these, Louisiana is the most promising,
as it is the single most valuable piece of territory on the planet. Part of what makes it so valuable is the
rain shadow effect created by the Rocky Mountains that separate

Why Do We Get Married
People marry to get company that they would not get if they were single. Nobody wants to return to an
empty home, which is what happens if you do not marry. Isolation can be killing. Studies have shown
that isolation can be harmful to health as heavy smoking or drinking.
It is only in the movies that bachelors look young and carefree. If you see men who are single, after
the age of 28 or so, you will find that they look older and more worn out than married persons of the
same age. Scores of studies done in North America and Western Europe shows that married people
enjoy better health than singles. They also live longer.
Take mental health for instance. Singles outnumber married individuals by three to one in mental
hospitals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They will learn that personal preference is more valuable than the welfare of another. They will learn
that selfishness is the model by which to live since the sacrifice of commitment to one person has not
been made.
In addition, children need security and instruction. Marriage helps to secure the family bond thereby
providing a more secure environment in which the children may grow so that they might properly
learn morality and integrity as they enter into society as adults. After all, those parents who do not
value marriage tend not to value commitment and children should not be raised where the parents are
not committed to each other.
Furthermore, marriage with its promise of fidelity, helps to ensure health through the prevention of
venereal diseases. Marriage helps to ensure the very sanctity of the spouse to spouse relationship since
marriage is a public statement of exclusive dedication. This helps to establish a foundation in the
relationship where a marriageless, living together relationship can have no true trust since people are
together out of convenience. If it becomes inconvenient, then they can easily break up children or no
children.
Marriage is not just a piece of paper. It is a promise to live together faithfully, till death, through thick
and thin, sickness and health and it is a benefit to the children who are raised in it. Marriage is a

Snow Crash Analysis
Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson takes place in a not so distant future, but the technology is much
more advanced than modern technology. Virtual reality has taken the world by storm in what s called
the Metaverse, a place where computer users, which is only about 10% of the world at this point, can
be anything they want. Users of the Metaverse can pick an avatar to be and then walk all around the
Metaverse, interacting with other users that are standing in a room halfway across the world.
Stephenson s descriptions of this innovative world are built upon science that is extremely advanced
but still credible. Stephenson illustrates realistic, common technological structures that are still more
futuristic than modern technology to draw the reader into the Metaverse and world of Snow Crash.
In the Metaverse, Stephenson explains authentic, yet futuristic, technology to the reader to bring the
reader into the book. Neal Stephenson first introduces us to The Deliverator , who we later find out is
in the Metaverse, as a Mafia worker who has to deliver pizzas in less than half an hour or lose
everything he has. When describing the process of the Deliverator and the advanced pizza boxes he
uses, called smart boxes , the narrator says, The pizza box is a plastic carapace now, corrugated for
stiffness, a little LED readout glowing on the side, telling the Deliverator how many trade imbalance
producing minutes have ticked away since the fateful phone call (Stephenson 6). This is the

Biography Of Benvenuto Cellini ( 1500 )
Benvenuto Cellini (1500 1571) was an autobiographer, goldsmith, musician, sculptor, and soldier.
Cellini was born in Florence, Italy. Born of Giovanni Cellini and Maria Granacci, he was their second
child. His name came from Old Italian welcome (bene well + venuto arrived ). It was commonly a
name given to a much desired and long awaited child. His father Giovanni was a musician and maker
of musical instruments, and in turn pressured Cellini into music from an early age. Cellini was not as
passionate about playing the flute as his father wanted him to be, which often caused strife between
the two. At the age of fifteen Cellini grew interested in goldsmithing, which his father objected to.

examine, Cellini was talented in a number of areas, but he never really reached the level of mastery
that was seen by many other renaissance men. He can still be considered a renaissance man because of
the notable achievements he made in smithing, art, and music. At the age of fifty eight Cellini started
writing his autobiography. He began writing it himself but soon chose to dictate to a young of boy
fourteen named Michele Goro. He began with stating he had a humble birth and intended to bring
honor to his already prestigious lineage, saying: I intend to write the story of my life with a certain
amount of pride, and that he does. Growing up the flute was his primary focus, as decided by his
musician father, Giovanni. It is implied that his father was gifted in a number of telents as well, when
a friend said to him Giovanni, besides music teach him some of the other splendid arts you re so good
at. Though his father did not seem interested in this idea and replied: I don t want him to learn

Essay on The Suffering of the Proud
The Suffering of the Proud
Pride is a key to self respect; however, when it goes to far, people forget that humility is a virtue too.
In the play Antigone, pride plays a major role throughout, appearing as fatal flaws in both Antigone
and Kreon, the main characters of Sophocles s tragedy. For Antigone and Kreon, as soon as the
stepped past the line of humility, they were doomed to fail.
For example, Kreon became so proud of himself he refused to listen to others warnings and assumes
the gods are on his side. But didn t that girl do wrong? The whole nation denies it. Will the nation tell
me what orders I can give? (Kreon, Haimon, Kreon 881 3) this is a perfect example, because he

He accuses the sentry who brings news of the burial, of being the culprit, and of course the only
reason is because he is the closest person, but Kreon doesn t care. He exclaims to his advisor, You are
an old man, are you senile? (Kreon 353). He insults and degrades his own advisor, someone he is
supposed to trust implicitly. The final, ultimate sign that he thinks he is better than everyone comes
when his son, Haimon, confronts him. He refuses to even listen to his suggestions, degrades him,
calling him too young, too idealistic, and under the control of a woman. Kreon then tries to kill
Haimon s fiancé, right in front of him. Though the people in power control a nation directly, but the
people in general indirectly control who rules them, if they want, and so a cruel or malevolent ruler,
will always fall, and often violently.
Finally, Antigone was so proud she could not try and change what was wrong, she just broke a law,
and a law, weather right or wrong, should never be broken. Do you dare, despite Kreon? [Violate his
laws] He cannot keep me from my own (Ismene, Antigone 54 5). This is a perfect example of
Antigone s refusal to talk or reason with Kreon, and to just act, without thinking, and deciding that her
morals are more important that the law of the land. She also refuses to back down, even once she is
captured. Some people might argue that she is standing up for what she believes in, but if she had

Stem Cell Controversy
Stem Cell Controversy
Stem cells were first isolated and cultured in November of 1998 and have been surrounded with much
debate and controversy since day one. Although the ethical debates have been mostly static and have
closely mimicked the ethical debates over abortion, the political determinations concerning federal
funding of stem cell research have gone through numerous evolutions in the years since the first
hESCs were isolated and cultured (Saltzberg 505). Research is currently being conducted on stem
cells, but only with private funds. The federal government has a ban on funding embryonic stem cell

There would be no chance for tissue rejection and no drugs would be needed to correct any problems
regarding rejection. In preliminary tests conducted by Geron, a pharmaceutical company, stem cells
slip by the human immune system unharmed. However, scientists have been unable to find
multipotent stem cells in all tissues in the body. Therefore, the only way to obtain certain cells would
be to use pluripotent stem cells, which are found in embryos and fetal tissue.
This is where much controversy comes into play with stem cells. Much research is needed and this
will only happen if federal funds are used to conduct research on stem cells. In August of 2001,
President Bush made a speech regarding stem cell research. In this speech he said, Based on
preliminary work that has been privately funded, scientists believe further research using stem cells
offers great promise that could help improve the lives of those who suffer from many terrible diseases
(Ruse 10). In the end, Bush said he would allow for federal funds to be used on stem cell research, but
there was a catch.
As a result of private research, more than sixty genetically diverse stem cell lines already exist. They
were created from embryos that have already been destroyed, and they have the ability to regenerate
themselves indefinitely, creating ongoing opportunities for research. I have concluded that we should

  • 2. Essay on Saint Augustine Saint Augustine was born on 354 CE in Tagaste, Africa. His given name was Aurelius Augustinus. His father was Patricius, a pagan who was baptized Christian before he died, and his mother was Monica, a baptized Christian with an influential role in the life of her son. Augustine is regarded as one of the most intelligent Christian theologians and bishops of all time. His works and actions have left a major imprint on the Church and its doctrine. As a boy, Augustine was not baptized and grew up in the Roman Empire. He studied under the local schoolmasters in Tagaste until he turned fifteen and moved to continue his studies in Madaurus. From Madaurus, he moved to Carthage for advanced studies in rhetoric and law. It was in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Augustine s model for his ministry was St. Paul and he found St. Paul as a mentor. In Hippo, he set up a monastery for the sake of training new priests. With Augustine s many contributions to Hippo, Bishop Valerius requested Augustine to become his Co adjutire. A year later, Valerius passed away and Augustine became the Bishop of Hippo.
  • 3. While Augustine was bishop, he wrote some of his greatest works, which still survive today. The first of these is Confessions, where he thanked God for changing him, and he also revealed how he struggled with himself, his sexual nature, self will and his pride. He presented his positions on incarnation and the Trinity. Confessions were both his biography and also his presentation of his ideas. This book was written with the hope that others will experience conversion to Christianity and how he, Augustine, felt on his way towards conversion. City of God is another great work of Augustine which he showed that Rome fell because it was a quot;City of Earth quot; and not because of Christianity and he Christians. The City of God emerged from God s love while Rome, the quot;City of Earth quot; emerged from the love of self. This was the dominant theme in the story. Augustine also critiqued Greco Roman culture drawing from the greatest historians and writers of the period. He pointed out the degradation of Roman standards of conduct, life patterns or style and sexual behaviors. Contrasting the Roman ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Stereotypes Of Women In The 21st Century In the early 21st century, women s activist groups have been becoming a more and more prominent sight in modern day society, but whilst nowadays, they are common sight, prior to the 20th century, it was impossible for women to vote or run for office in Canada, as well as many other countries (Stoddart, 2016). Knowing this, it raises the question, why were women fine with such standards for 1900 years? The answer to this question revolves around social conventions. Social conventions are unwritten rules in society that are treated as the norm and as such, can be misinterpreted as the right thing to do, making them very hard to oppose. However, in truth, following social norms is not always the correct thing to do. Budge Wilson s short ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, where Elizabeth is being treated poorly by her husband, I was being treated poorly by a bully. In modern society, victims of bullying are known for enduring the abuse silently until the situation miraculously resolves from a change in locations. As such, bullies do not pose a large problem if the victim will change locations within 1 or 2 years; however, in my case, I shared classes with the perpetrator for 6 years. Over the course of those years, he progressively made a greater impact in my life to the point that I felt scared of seeing my friends if it meant confronting the bully. This seriously affected my happiness and contributed to stress/anxiety until his taunts had built up enough anger in me to cause physical contact. The trigger incident for this was that he had slapped me twice as a joke, but in return, I grabbed his shirt and dragged him until he stopped resisting. Eventually I let him go, but as a result of my resistance, he has ceased to attack me since then. Had I followed social conventions, I would have spent the rest of the year stressed out and bottling my emotions, which has been scientifically proven to increase health risks and statistically shorten life spans (Gustafson, 2016). This situation is almost identical to the one in the The Leaving, as in both our scenarios, the victim is abused by the perpetrator for years until the victim is distressed to the point that they are forced to take a stand. Additionally, both of our struggles help stop the abuse, proving that in certain situations, it is indeed worth challenging a social norm rather than following it. As such, we can conclude that following social expectations is not always the right thing to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. King Hatshepsut Accomplishments We can call her Queen or, as she would like to be known as King Hatshepsut had made her mark and ruled during the eighteenth Dynasty Egypt for over twenty years. She was born the eldest daughter of King Tuthmosis the first and later on married her half brother Tuthmosis the second to become one of the most remarkable women in Egyptian history. Although she was a female she became the epitome of the male role, often seen as an ordinary woman and as a man, dressed in men s clothing, carrying the male accessories even shown wearing the false beard of the pharaohs. • 6. Assessment of Products and Services of Starbucks Coffee CHAPTER I The Problem and the Review of Related Literature A coffeehouse, coffee shop or café (French/Spanish/ Portuguese: café; Italian: café) shares some of the characteristics of a bar and some of the characteristics of a restaurant, but it is different from a cafeteria. As the name suggests, coffeehouses focus on providing coffee and tea as well as light snacks. Food choices range from pastries and muffins to soups and sandwiches. From a cultural standpoint, coffeehouses largely serve as centers of social interaction: that provides social members with a place to congregate, talk, write, read, entertain one another, or pass time, whether individually or in small groups. The coffee shop industry was starting to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The trick is to broaden appeal without stretching operations too thin. More chain operators will probably aim for a middle ground between the in and out coffee bar and the full fledged coffee house. The type of food that the beverage retailers plan to add to their offerings is the key to these distinctions. The café is a place where someone can have a cup of coffee while reading newspaper, or talk to a friend, and then get on with it (Restaurant Business vol. 96, 1996). Metro Manila is currently being swept by a coffee drinking epidemic, and yuppies and young people are filling coffee places that have introduced previously unknown coffee blends from all over the world. According to Norman Koplas in his book A Cup of Coffee, more than a third of the world s people drink coffee today, and that probably includes us, although we are not on the radar screen as an important coffee producer despite the fact that many of us swear by the barako from Batangas. The following account is derived from the book of Koplas, who has written about food in the New York Times and the International Herald Tribune. By the 16th century, coffee drinking was widespread in the Arab world. Coffeehouses became more popular than mosques, leading to their closure in Mecca, Cairo and Constantinople. Coffeehouses came to Europe in the 17th century. In 1650, coffeehouses first opened in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Disadvantages Of International Trust Law The International Trust Law (No. 69/1992) legislation facilitates the formation and administration of an international trust. The law built on the existing Cyprus trust legislation of 1995 (The Trustees Law, CAP. 193). The amendment of Cyprus trust legislation introduces innovative provisions and provides considerable incentives for the establishment of trusts in Cyprus. Furthermore, Cyprus becomes an attractive centre for international trusts. As a result, new investment opportunities have emerged. Trust is defined as a legal relationship created when an individual (the Settlor ) places assets under the responsibility and control of an individual (the Trustee ) for the benefit of some other person or people (the Beneficiaries ) or for a particular purpose. That is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the case of charitable or purpose trust then the duration is unlimited. Nonetheless, the Trustee is obliged to give the necessary information to the Supervision Body. The name of the Trust, the date of the establishment, the date of termination, the name and the address of the Trustee are kept on a confidential basis. Flexibility: Cyprus Law enables the removal of a trust from its jurisdictions and vice versa. That is to say, it is provided the necessary flexibility whether a change of circumstances may necessitate this kind of transfer, for fiscal or other reasons. • 8. The Foreclosure Of The Last Couple Years Foreclosure in the last couple years has become a well known word to a lot of young people, and has become more frequent in the last couple of years. My family has gone through the process and it was a very emotional time for us all. The only home my family was able to get into was one that could be rented with the option to buy. Having more homes in the market that have that option makes it not only more convenient, but more affordable for families like mine who have gone through foreclosure. Giving possible tenants the option to rent towards owing is a great way to get the housing market back on track. People who are struggling financially cannot afford to just buy a home. Allowing people the option to rent towards buying, takes some of the stress off the tenants and allows longer time to come up with the money, which means less people getting evicted or foreclosed on. The less people that are foreclosed on, the better the market for homes will be. Currently the market is great for anyone who is financially stable to purchase any home that has a foreclosure sign out front. If the option rent to own was made more available the people looking for homes, then it would allow them to save more money until they were financially stable to either buy the home, or move to another affordable location. The owners who do offer the rent to own option are not only allowing the tenants time to come to a more stable financial state, but are making money themselves. If the ... • 9. The Invention Of Hugo Cabaret By Brian Selznick The Invention Of Hugo Cabaret Image Evaluation The invention of Hugo Cabaret, an award winning book by Brian Selznick. In a successful attempt to create a movie/book feeling, he replaced 158 pages of words with pictures. This picture, depicted on pages 118 119, caught my eye because it effectively contributes to the development of the narrative. It relates to Hugo s father, who is a minor character, but the picture perfectly correlates with the description provided in the pages. This image is a flashback from Hugo s mind. It shows that Hugo s father, can t stop thinking about the automaton even at work. In the picture, Selznick has cleverly managed to convey the mood of Hugo s father. Selznick produces this by using, body language and facial expression, which is my first criteria. He draws the character to show that Hugo s father is absorbed in what he is doing, which shows his passion towards his job and the automaton. His body language is portrayed in the way he handles the mechanical part in his hands. As you can see he is handling the part delicately indicating that it is fragile. This also shows that Hugo s father is a very skilled but kind and caring person. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To what extent do the objects in the room add meaning to the story? This is my 2nd criteria. According to the text, it was built by Hugo. Selznick has drawn the animals there to emphasise that Hugo and his father had a strong relationship. This also shows that the image perfectly fits in to the book and it is in the right place because it perfectly, correlates with the text. It also adds extra meaning to the words helping the reader comprehend what the story is about and helps the reader understand who Hugo s father ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Equal Rights Amendment Pros And Cons The influential Phyllis Schlafly used her platform against the Equal Rights Amendment to emphasize that the possibility of having equal rights between men and women would be destructive and antifamily . Schlafly found the amendment to be disturbing when the ERA gained a strong support system for its adoption; nevertheless, she started the STOP ERA movement in order to stress the importance of having a traditional family in America. The primary purpose of the amendment was to prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender in the United States (S L 103). The support of this amendment was because women felt that they were being institutionally discriminated by the patriarchal dominance. If the ERA was passed, the woman would have to support the family and pay for the same things men would pay, which should not happen; it is deemed unconstitutional and disorderly in terms of tradition and the country s original conservative principles that the man is the provider. • 12. Reflection Paper On Pastor INTERVIEW PAPER I really enjoyed executing this interview. It was a privilege to be able to include my interviewee in my assignment, as he has been supporting my decision to further my education and proceed with my calling through Christ. Bill Kidd has been an associate pastor for over 7 years at Bethel Baptist Church. Pastor Kidd was in school at the same time as myself and we always were able to connect and relate to each other whenever we got together at meetings or other gatherings. I look up to and respect his achievement in ministry and I am looking forward to learning from him as I pursue my role in ministry. My first question to pastor Bill was that interested me greatly, especially as I compared it to the personal experience I had with God s call on my life. I asked about his experience with how and why he was called into ministry. His story was captivating, like myself, his wife felt the tug before he did. This call seems close to my own as my wife brought it to my attention before I realized what God was doing. When reflecting on this situation I think about Mark 4:24, And he said to them, Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you. The second question I inquired about dealt with a dictatorship. This enticed him to confess his past mistakes he had made regarding this subject. • 13. Jesse Owens Thesis In 1936, against a backdrop of swastikas flying and storm troopers goose stepping, an African American son of sharecroppers won a staggering four Olympic gold medals and single handedly crushed Hitler s myth of Aryan supremacy. The story of Jesse Owens at the 1936 Berlin Olympics is that of an athletic performance that transcends sports. It is an intimate and complex tale of the courage of one remarkable man. It is also the story of the American movement to boycott the games, which nearly succeeded, and of the Nazis efforts to use the Olympics as a showcase for their new American Culture. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout his travels around the United States, competing in the name of Ohio State, Owens was also met with continuous racism and scrutiny. By the end of his tour, he was obviously physically drained, but mentally drained as well. Being in the public eye for so long, rumors started to pop up, and Owens became distracted. However, after some rest, he regained his form. He competed in the United States Olympic Trials on Randall s Island, in New York City. By the time the Ebony Antelope (as one of many adoring newspapermen had anointed him) was ready for Berlin, his success was practically guaranteed. The real drama of Schaap s book comes in the politically fractious run up to Berlin. From the start, American participation in the 1936 games was controversial. A boycott was afoot based on reports of Nazi hostility to Jews, but was thwarted by the president of the American Olympic Committee who dismissed the actions of the Third Reich as irrelevant. At the Games, the subplots and intrigue continued. Owens was befriended by a stereotypically Aryan rival, broad jumper Luz Long, who helped Owens win the gold medal at his own expense. Long offered some friendly advice, clearly embodying the Olympic spirit rather than showing his Aryan superiority. Two Jewish sprinters were denied the chance to compete for the United States at the last possible moment, most likely out of misguided deference to the Nazi hosts. A myth was born that Hitler had snubbed Owens by failing to congratulate him. Owens eventually went on to win four gold medals in the 100 and 200 meter sprints, the long jump, and the 4x100 meter relay, tying an Olympic record for individual medals won in a single ... Play By Anita Act 2 Analysis 1) Misto motivation to write to play was that five decades the Government was silence about the Women s incarceration and their horrific experiences inside the prison camps. In the beginning, it seems harmless but the more that is exposed, the more you uncover how many consequences come with it. In George Orwell s, Animal Farm, He writes about the struggles endured throughout the rises and falls of the characters in the book. Animal Farm was always doomed to fail because the absolute power corrupted the pigs, the uneducated animals were easily manipulated, and the commandments ended up only applying to the lower class animals. As the pigs began to take over the farm they got power hungry. They would sit and order the other animals around as Orwell explains in the following quote, The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised the others. With their superior knowledge it was natural that they should assume the leadership. This was the start of the pigs takeover. They were beginning to rule the whole farm without regarding any of the other animal s opinions. The pigs assumed that they were more equal than other animals and began to abuse this. In his poem, Wordsworth is able to paint an ominous scene in nature, mainly by the use of the words gloomy and haunted, which his readers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Why Was Mexico So Much Poorer Than The United States Why was Mexico so much poorer than the United States in the 1980s? Most economists would answer this question by pointing to Mexico s boom and bust cycles, and the United States pattern of relatively stable growth. These cycles occur in Mexico because of political instability and the fluctuation of capital availability. This answer is not wrong, but it is incomplete. Behind economics and politics, geography looms, tying political science and economics together. Geography, more than any other factor, explains why the United States in the 1980s was so rich and Mexico was so poor. The United States and Mexico together take up the majority of the habitable lands of North America. In 1763, the Viceroyalty of New Spain controlled most of ... This makes the maintenance of a professional standing army of a fairly substantial size necessary. It also means that in times of political instability in the center, the areas around the core tend to either break away temporarily (best case scenario) or become staging points for assaults on the core (worst case scenario). The second weakness of the core lies in its elevation. As a result of its elevation, it is difficult for Mexico to economically integrate with the rest of the world or even to create internal economies of scale that connect the core to the surrounding states. For example, it was not until 1877 that the first rail line between Mexico City and its main port of Veracruz was completed. This means that, although the Mexico City core will always be heavily populated, it is incapable of generating large sums of capital. To the north, across the Chihuahua, Sonora, and Baja deserts, sit the fertile, capital rich lands of Louisiana, California, and East Texas. Of these, Louisiana is the most promising, as it is the single most valuable piece of territory on the planet. Part of what makes it so valuable is the rain shadow effect created by the Rocky Mountains that separate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They will learn that selfishness is the model by which to live since the sacrifice of commitment to one person has not been made. In addition, children need security and instruction. Marriage helps to secure the family bond thereby providing a more secure environment in which the children may grow so that they might properly learn morality and integrity as they enter into society as adults. After all, those parents who do not value marriage tend not to value commitment and children should not be raised where the parents are not committed to each other. Furthermore, marriage with its promise of fidelity, helps to ensure health through the prevention of venereal diseases. Marriage helps to ensure the very sanctity of the spouse to spouse relationship since marriage is a public statement of exclusive dedication. • 33. Snow Crash Analysis Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson takes place in a not so distant future, but the technology is much more advanced than modern technology. Virtual reality has taken the world by storm in what s called the Metaverse, a place where computer users, which is only about 10% of the world at this point, can be anything they want. Users of the Metaverse can pick an avatar to be and then walk all around the Metaverse, interacting with other users that are standing in a room halfway across the world. Stephenson s descriptions of this innovative world are built upon science that is extremely advanced but still credible. Stephenson illustrates realistic, common technological structures that are still more futuristic than modern technology to draw the reader into the Metaverse and world of Snow Crash. In the Metaverse, Stephenson explains authentic, yet futuristic, technology to the reader to bring the reader into the book. Neal Stephenson first introduces us to The Deliverator , who we later find out is in the Metaverse, as a Mafia worker who has to deliver pizzas in less than half an hour or lose everything he has. When describing the process of the Deliverator and the advanced pizza boxes he uses, called smart boxes , the narrator says, The pizza box is a plastic carapace now, corrugated for stiffness, a little LED readout glowing on the side, telling the Deliverator how many trade imbalance producing minutes have ticked away since the fateful phone call (Stephenson 6). Cindy Sherman s Passion For Photography Like every other artistry representation either through painting, photography, sculpture etc, I find Cindy Sherman s passion for photography rather fascinating. She was born in January 19th, 1954 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. Her love and passion for art is the reason why I ve decided to take interest in her works because she wasn t born into a family of painters, photographers or the family that associated with art hence, she carved and turned her interest in art into a global recognition. She was more into painting at her initial age but fell out of it for photography at Buffalo State College where she met Barbara Jo Revelle who introduced her to conceptual art and other contemporary forms. • 35. Biography Of Benvenuto Cellini ( 1500 ) Benvenuto Cellini (1500 1571) was an autobiographer, goldsmith, musician, sculptor, and soldier. Cellini was born in Florence, Italy. Born of Giovanni Cellini and Maria Granacci, he was their second child. His name came from Old Italian welcome (bene well + venuto arrived ). It was commonly a name given to a much desired and long awaited child. His father Giovanni was a musician and maker of musical instruments, and in turn pressured Cellini into music from an early age. Cellini was not as passionate about playing the flute as his father wanted him to be, which often caused strife between the two. At the age of fifteen Cellini grew interested in goldsmithing, which his father objected to. Cellini ultimately convinced his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was stressed to have abilities in multiple disciplines, physical, mental and intellectual, artistic and even social areas. Cellini was certainly known for being a goldsmith, and he was adept enough at drawing and sculpting to allow for this profession, but what about the other areas of life? As we will examine, Cellini was talented in a number of areas, but he never really reached the level of mastery that was seen by many other renaissance men. He can still be considered a renaissance man because of the notable achievements he made in smithing, art, and music. At the age of fifty eight Cellini started writing his autobiography. He began writing it himself but soon chose to dictate to a young of boy fourteen named Michele Goro. He began with stating he had a humble birth and intended to bring honor to his already prestigious lineage, saying: I intend to write the story of my life with a certain amount of pride, and that he does. Growing up the flute was his primary focus, as decided by his musician father, Giovanni. It is implied that his father was gifted in a number of telents as well, when a friend said to him Giovanni, besides music teach him some of the other splendid arts you re so good at. Though his father did not seem interested in this idea and replied: I don t want him to learn anything except playing and composing. Young Cellini did not approach the instrument with ... • 36. Essay on The Suffering of the Proud The Suffering of the Proud Pride is a key to self respect; however, when it goes to far, people forget that humility is a virtue too. In the play Antigone, pride plays a major role throughout, appearing as fatal flaws in both Antigone and Kreon, the main characters of Sophocles s tragedy. For Antigone and Kreon, as soon as the stepped past the line of humility, they were doomed to fail. For example, Kreon became so proud of himself he refused to listen to others warnings and assumes the gods are on his side. But didn t that girl do wrong? The whole nation denies it. Will the nation tell me what orders I can give? (Kreon, Haimon, Kreon 881 3) this is a perfect example, because he refuses to listen to his son, and then, when ... He accuses the sentry who brings news of the burial, of being the culprit, and of course the only reason is because he is the closest person, but Kreon doesn t care. He exclaims to his advisor, You are an old man, are you senile? (Kreon 353). He insults and degrades his own advisor, someone he is supposed to trust implicitly. The final, ultimate sign that he thinks he is better than everyone comes when his son, Haimon, confronts him. He refuses to even listen to his suggestions, degrades him, calling him too young, too idealistic, and under the control of a woman. Kreon then tries to kill Haimon s fiancé, right in front of him. Though the people in power control a nation directly, but the people in general indirectly control who rules them, if they want, and so a cruel or malevolent ruler, will always fall, and often violently. Finally, Antigone was so proud she could not try and change what was wrong, she just broke a law, and a law, weather right or wrong, should never be broken. Do you dare, despite Kreon? [Violate his laws] He cannot keep me from my own (Ismene, Antigone 54 5). This is a perfect example of Antigone s refusal to talk or reason with Kreon, and to just act, without thinking, and deciding that her morals are more important that the law of the land. She also refuses to back down, even once she is captured. Some people might argue that she is standing up for what she believes in, but if she had killed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the ethical debates have been mostly static and have closely mimicked the ethical debates over abortion, the political determinations concerning federal funding of stem cell research have gone through numerous evolutions in the years since the first hESCs were isolated and cultured (Saltzberg 505). Research is currently being conducted on stem cells, but only with private funds. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There would be no chance for tissue rejection and no drugs would be needed to correct any problems regarding rejection. In preliminary tests conducted by Geron, a pharmaceutical company, stem cells slip by the human immune system unharmed. However, scientists have been unable to find multipotent stem cells in all tissues in the body. Therefore, the only way to obtain certain cells would be to use pluripotent stem cells, which are found in embryos and fetal tissue. This is where much controversy comes into play with stem cells. Much research is needed and this will only happen if federal funds are used to conduct research on stem cells. In August of 2001, President Bush made a speech regarding stem cell research. In this speech he said, Based on preliminary work that has been privately funded, scientists believe further research using stem cells offers great promise that could help improve the lives of those who suffer from many terrible diseases (Ruse 10). In the end, Bush said he would allow for federal funds to be used on stem cell research, but there was a catch. As a result of private research, more than sixty genetically diverse stem cell lines already exist. They were created from embryos that have already been destroyed, and they have the ability to regenerate themselves indefinitely, creating ongoing opportunities for research.
