The Three Stages Of Prehistory
Prehistory literally means before history , from the Latin word for before, præ, and Greek for history
ιστορία. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prehistory). Prehistory is a term that can refer to the vast span
of time since the beginning of the universe, but it is more often that it refers to the period since the life
like human beings appeared on Earth. The concept of prehistory to the time during the enlightenment
that prehistory was used to describe societies before there is an existed records. The first used of
prehistory in English occurred in the Foreign Quarterly Review in 1836 in 1836.
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prehistory). Prehistory is a long period divided into three stages,
Paleolithic Age, Neolithic Age, and the Metal Age. Paleolithic age or Stone Age began with our first
ancestors that used tools made of stone and lived on hunting and gathering. The Neolithic Age or
Bronze Age where the human beings lived in villages and cultivated the land to raised cattle. The
Metal Age or the Iron Age when the human beings started to make objects out of metals.

and in health, until death do us part. These are the standard wedding vows and though, they are a
married couple, these vows still play a role in any serious relationship. It is the promise of two people
that they will be there, no matter what happens. However, things happen and, suddenly, that promise
turns into a broken agreement. For instance, in the play Angels in America written by Tony Kushner,
the character Louis leaves Prior because he has a terminal illness: AIDS. Therefore, their vow breaks
the stable relationship. While the illness can break a vow, it can form one. In the musical movie

The Negative Effects Of Globalization
After reading the history of this person, I experienced different feelings in the first pride that in this
world there are still such people, secondly the sadness that I as a person still failed to do something
extraordinary for this world. From what I have read, I have noticed, to a large extent, the positive
aspects of globalization. Even Samir himself speaks about this that they greatly influenced him
Globalization has had a very strong effect on me. It has allowed me to live with my friends and
extended families that live in very different cultures and settings.
He also talks about the moments that globalization gave him, Globalization has also allowed me to be
exposed to several languages. I am fluent in English, Spanish, and ... Show more content on

Although I am now living in another country, the only thing that could affect me is the moment with
fast food and coffee, about which we could read, but nevertheless the knowledge of the language at a
different level and communication with people helped me to uncover a number of factors, How much
the world is different. In the sense that globalization can influence us in terms of thinking, because we
thought at home differently than when we are in another country, and we have to think and act
differently.
We could read above how the globalization of the pop industry influences the world, the young
generation s world that movies and TV shows dictate to the world how we live and dress. The world
of music I want to talk about it and about how music affects globalization. After all, every nation and
people has and has the roots of musical style and sound (its folk music) but the tendencies of the new
world are changing everything and the US is one of the biggest industries that influence it. We
remember how the first emo, Goths and other fans of these themes appeared. And the fact that music
affects us on our feelings, because under every mood we listen to different music. When sad we listen
to the sad and etc. Everyone has his own idol which we end up trying to please. As a result, the
younger generation forgets the style and sound that was inherent in its people. I also want to touch on
the theme of books that foreign books have become

What Are The Worst Conditions During The French Revolution
To begin, during the French Revolution the peasants lived under the worst conditions. Peasants
formed the largest group within the third estate, more than 80% of 26 million people in France. The
poor had no part or say the decisions that the government would make. Peasants and the rest of the
third estate were expected to pay an enormous amount of taxes, that the second and first estate did not
have to pay. For example, there was bad weather around 1780 caused a widespread of crop failures,
resulting in a shortage of grain. That lead to the doubled price of bread, peasants could not afford to
purchase the bread because of the outrageous amount of taxes that they had to pay, this lead to many
people in the third estate facing starvation. Not only was this unfair for the peasants, it made them
become outraged, and lead them to the beginning of the Great Fear. To continue, the Great Fear was a
wave of senseless panic that swept through france. Rumors circled that nobles were hiring outlaws to
terrorize the peasants. The peasants have already been through enough with their horrible ruler, and
their queen they soon became the outlaws themselves. The peasants armed themselves with pitchforks,

Peasants and the urban poor resented the clergy and the nobles for their privileges and special
treatment. The heavily taxes and disconnected third estate was eager for a change throughout their
community. Many of the National Assembly s early reforms focused on the church, it took over the
church lands. Soon church officials and priests were to be elected and paid as state officials, which
lead to the catholic church losing both its lands and political independence. Proceeds from the church
land sale helped pay off france s huge debt thanks to the king. The assembly decisions upset the
peasants who were devoted catholics. The work of making the church apart of the state offended the

How The Current Status And Future Of The Company
Introduction Modern technology has necessitated the use of communicating through the social
networking site on regular time intervals. Social networking sites have brought the world closer and
helped us connect easily. Individuals ensure to commit a minimum of an hour or two over the internet.
Social networking sites have helped employers and educational institutions to assess their employees
and help them in the hiring process. At the same time, students make use of these sites to stay
connected with the university activities. Such dependency is inevitable in the connected
communicating world. With time many networking sites have developed with different features.
Amongst all these sites the most influential and popular site has been Facebook. The site has seen
considerable development and growth over the last decade. The company initiated as a college
directory for Harvard University and then expanded over time to include more universities since its
inception in 2004. Currently, it stands as a public company which is valued at $2 billion. The paper
will critically analyze various aspects of the current status and future of the company. In addition, the
paper will focus on the security and privacy policy, competition in the face of global usage, investor s
interests in the company, growth potential and strategy, ways to thwart competition from entering the
market (Barnett Han, 2011). Facebook The inception of the company took place

Personal Narrative-Let It Snow
I hate being cold. The red and runny noses, the numb fingers, the glasses, both foggy and snowflake
laden. That being said, I love the snow. Crisp, clean sheets of white, catching snowflakes on your
tongue. Snowmen, snow angels, snow ball fights. It s hard not to revert to that childlike wonder of the
season.
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow! The first snow of the year fell on the day of my baby brother s
birthday. My baby brother, now thirteen years old and definitely not a baby anymore, had started to act
like your stereotypical teenage boy months before he d even turned thirteen. For a bit, I was scared
that the little brat I d grown up with had changed. But the gentle flakes started to dance carefully from

Gay And Gay Rights
Gay Rights Gays should be allowed to have the same rights as everyone else. They used to not be
allowed to adopt children in some states. They get abused verbally, mentally, and physically by their
family and friends. There are some people who disagree with the thought of gays getting married.
They can t get jobs because of their sexual orientation. Some people accept the fact that they want to
love who they want to love. What s important is that gays are mistreated wherever they go. Gays
should be allowed to have the same rights as everyone else. Homosexual people do not want to have
special privileges. They just want to have the same rights as heterosexuals, nothing more and nothing
less. Homosexuals are a growing minority with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is the saddest thing to me because I would hate, absolutely hate it if someone called me dirty
names like the ones they get called. For example, they get called queer, homo, fag, gay, and many
more cruel names. The people do not want gays to get married. Homosexual couples will love each
other no matter what happens, whether they get married or not, so trying to stop them from what they
want the most, is definitely not going to make them go away. They will be more outspoken because
they want to feel like they are in the United States. People will argue that they shouldn t get married
because marriage is a religious ceremony and should be only for straight people. For example,
according to the constitution, marriage doesn t have to be between a male and a female. I think that
people just underestimate homosexuals all the time and that they don t think about their actions and
what they are saying. Homosexuals have just as much privacy as any other person. Homosexuals can
not get jobs because of their sexual orientation. Discrimination against lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and
transsexuals is widespread throughout America. They have always been targets for discrimination.
This discrimination is based on a hostile attitude toward a specific group, in this case, is the minority.
Because of this, many of them go to work in fear of rejection or causing them

Summary Of Introduction By Anna Akhmatova
Anna Akhmatova s excerpt Introduction is a touching poem about the hardships the people in anti
Soviet Russia had to go through under Stalin s rule. She speaks of death, loneliness, and constant fear.
A loss of a loved one messes with a person emotionally, to the point that recovery from traumatic grief
seems impossible. In the time frame of anti Soviet Russia, Stalin is in power. There is a constant fear
of each other, the government, the secret police, and a fear of sharing their thoughts and feelings. It
was a brutal time. The communists, known as the Bolsheviks, start turmoil, but a regime against them,
most known as the Whites, try to fight for truth and freedom. Akhmatova s husband is executed by the
Bolsheviks for siding and cooperating with the anti Soviets. To wail with the wives of the murdered

Impact Of The Atomic Bombs On Nagasaki And Hiroshima
The impact of the atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima were the most destructive singular air
strikes against Japan. However, fire raids conducted by Major General Curtis E. Lemay were a
significant factor in the air campaign against Japan. They also inflicted more casualties to the Japanese
populous and damage to Japanese infrastructure than the atomic bombs (Hanson 60). The decision and
execution of these attacks by General Lemay contributed to the overall success of the pacific
campaign. The changes that General Lemay made to the XXI Bomber Command created more
victories for the Americans with a lower casualty rate. These victories can also be attributed to the
success of air power at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels of war. Prior to General Lemay s
control of the XXI Bomber Command, Brigadier General Haywood S. Hansell Jr. was conducting
high altitude bombing campaigns on Japanese infrastructure. The bombing command had a solid
foundation with its safe base infrastructure, tactics, and organization of command. B 29s stationed at
bases in Guam, Tinian, Saipan and Iwo Jima were being more well constructed leading to less
problems during air raids. With better aircraft, missions could have fewer issues occurring leading to
higher success rates. The major setback that aircrafts were having was the weather. Because the
bombers were at such high altitudes during their attacks it led to overheating of engines and other
mission essential issues. Thunderstorms

The Long History Of Summer Camp
The words summer camp conjure up fond memories of campfires, s mores, pranks, and color war for
many Americans. What appeals to many campers, or prospective campers, is the keeping of tradition.
Many campers can trace back their relatives who attended the very same camp, and find delight in the
idea of shared experiences with their close, or distant, relatives. The long history of summer camps in
America stems from an annual trip William Frederick Gunn began to take in 1861 in order to expose
young boys to what life in the wilderness has to offer. Originally, the Gunn s theory was that the
experience would strengthen not merely muscle, nerve, and self discipline, but developed a masculine
character as well. This applied specifically for boys, but camps for girls first appeared in 1902 with the
opening of Camp Kehonka, in reflection of the changing attitudes with reference to the role of women
in society. Sleepaway camps become a prominent institution in America in the 1900 s that influenced
the youth of this country, and continues to do so over one hundred years later, as thousands of summer
camps still run every summer, many of which are the same camps that sparked this burgeoning trend.
The development of this idiosyncratic principle in American life can be understood through the
development of various widespread opinions during, and before, the first sleepaway camp was
founded.
To fully understand the roots of the summer camp ideology, it is imperative to look

The Cardiovascular Surgeon Steps Of Cardiothoracic Surgeon
The heart beats about 1000,000 times every day sending 2,000 gallons of blood thought your body.
The hearts job is keeping blood flowing through 60,000 miles of blood vessels that feed organs and
tissues. The cardiac muscle is the tissues that make up your heart. The heart sends blood around your
body. When there is a problem with your heart and it can t pump blood it is critical for it to be fixed.
This is when the cardiovascular surgeon steps in.

John Lewis that attended University of Minnesota on September 2, 1952. The following year, Soviet
surgeon Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Vishnevskiy conducted the first cardiac surgery under local
anesthesia. This surgery is during which the heart is exposed and the blood made to bypass it.
The earliest operations on the pericardium (the sac that surrounds the heart) took place in the 19th
century and was performed by Francisco Romero (1801). The first surgery on the heart itself was
performed by Norwegian surgeon Axel Cappelen on the 4th of September 1895 at. He ligated a
bleeding coronary artery in a 24 year old man who had been stabbed in the left axillae and was in deep
shock upon arrival. Access was through a left thoracotomy. The patient awoke and seemed fine for 24
hours, but became ill with increasing temperature and he ultimately died. The first successful surgery
of the heart, performed without any complications, was by Ludwig Rehn of Frankfurt, Germany, who
repaired a stab wound to the right ventricle on September 7, 1896.
Cardiac surgery training in the United States is combined with and called cardiothoracic surgery. A
cardiothoracic surgeon in the U.S. is a physician D.O or M.D who first completes a general surgery
residency (typically 5 7 years), followed by a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship (typically 2 3 years).
The cardiothoracic surgery fellowship typically two or three years, but certification is based on the

Keeping Briton’s Religious Origins Alive through Ancient...
A trend of unhappy endings was consistent in literary works of the Medieval period, where the heroes
and heroines don t live happily ever after but are instead brought great strife and are eventually killed.
These tales were often reflections of the old heritage of the Britons as their religious influence
persevered even after being marginalized both geographically and politically. Rather than reflecting
the pessimism of the Britons after being conquered by outside forces, the tales reminded the people of
the worthiness of their suffering as they connected to the heroes and heroines in the stories.
Furthermore, the persistence of these religious genres is evidenced in ancient literature such as
Beowulf, The Myth of Arthur s Return, or Diedru and the Exile of the Sons of Uisliu, as they retained
remnants of origins of the Britons religious beliefs. In Beowulf, King Hrothgar, the ruler of Danes, is
troubled by the rampages of a demon named Grendel. Fortunately, a young Geat warrior, Beowulf,
travels from his own kingdom across the seas, to Heorot Hall offering his assistance with the pest
problem. Before the tale has even really reached the action of the story, there are already subtle hints
of Christ like similitude and religious characteristics. Beowulf, like Christ, is from a foreign land and
travels to a distant place to save a kingdom s people from the evil demon that haunts and terrorizes
them. Beowulf battles this demon in hand to hand combat and tears Grendel s arm

Application Of An Xml Representation For Source Code Using...
For my Honors Research Project, I wrote a GUI application that converts and displays source code
using the srcML format. The srcML format is an XML representation for source code, where the
markup tags identify elements of the abstract syntax for the language. As the name implies, the goal
for srcMX is to promote the manipulation and exploration of source code. Currently, source code can
be converted to the srcML format using the srcml command line tool. However, this requires the user
to view the results using an external application. The srcMX application is the first to allow users to
convert source code the the srcML format and view the results. In addition, my application also
provides users with the ability to visualize query results. The srcMX application consists of several
modular views. At the top, the main toolbar contains a variety of controls. Here, the user can add files
to the project, toggle the visibility of application views, and browse through the history of opened
files. The main toolbar also contains a large status bar that displays information about the project. To
the right, a slider controls the visibility of srcML tags in the code viewport. New files can be added to
a project by expanding the drop down button in the main tool bar. This opens a window that allows the
user to specify the type of file he or she wishes to add. Like the srcML command line tool, srcMX can
accept individual files, directories containing multiple files, compressed archives

Essay on Semiotics of Personal Objects
Ever since I was a little girl, clothes and shoes have been important to me. I loved picking out my own
outfits for school, and finding just the right color Keds or sandals to match. It truly was a passion.
Even now, many years later, here I am, the same shopaholic and fashion maniac I have always been.
After researching semiotics, which in short, is the method of interpreting signs and finding a deeper
meaning in everyday activities, I realize, that my reasoning for choosing the clothes and shoes that I
chose, is deeper, than just the fact that I looked cute, it was a choice of statements I was making each
and every time. The question is what statements did I make?
Recently, on a trip through Europe I bought myself some new ... Show more content on

shoes. Every outfit decision makes a statement, whether you realize it or not, and people form
opinions and stereotypes about you based on those symbols whether they realize it or not. Not to say
its right or wrong, it just is.
Another item I wish to discuss, in semiotic terms are my old, faded, black sweat pants, or as I like to
call them my comfy clothes. Now, there not new, hip or expensive, but they are some of my favorite
pants in the whole world. I wear, them when I want to be comfortable and casual, and when I am not

not? What make it okay to go shopping in, but not good enough for dinner and a movie with a guy.

deeper than that. When

children because they are the future of our country. In her essay she talks about how children are our
next generation and people should do what they can to try to help and educate them. Edelman says It s
time to do whatever it takes to make our nation treat our children right and to live up to its promise of
fair opportunity (44). Not only does she encourage people to treat children right but she also
encourages people to treat children fairly regardless of their color or economic status. Later on

Federal Budget Cuts For Domestic Programs And Foreign Aid...
During the activity, I chose federal budget cuts for domestic programs and foreign aid. I cut foreign
aid in half. I do not think that America needs to help the world anymore. We have already helped out a
lot and we should only help towards people that really need it, such as starving Africans, instead of
funding wars overseas. I cut the pay of civilian federal workers by 5 percent. People in the federal
government get paid more and more every year while citizens of our country get paid a lower
minimum wage than a lot of other places in the world. I cut 250,000 government contractors. There
are more contractors than government officials, which means more money spent on a government that
does not fully have the needs of the country in mind. In addition, I chose federal budget cuts for the
military. I reduced the number of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan to 30,000 by 2013. We do not need
the troops in Iraq or Afghanistan anymore. The war is over. Let the country figure out what it needs to
do by itself. We helped create the uprising there, so we can help diminish it by reducing troops. I also
chose federal budget cuts for healthcare. I enacted medical malpractice reform. I think it is important
that our doctors research as much as they can about a procedure or a medicine, so that they can
provide the proper care for a patient and reduce the risk of getting sued.
Moreover, I reduced the tax break for employer provider health insurance. Employers should not tax

The customisation features mentioned above are only the beginning of the personalisation movement,
as user monitoring technologies continue to progress, websites will have much greater access to
information and be able to use this information in more productive ways. One example is Digital
Rights Management (DRM) which was initially developed to prevent copyright infringement,
however more advanced forms of DRM can now be used to gather digital media usage data which is
used to develop preference profiles and implement price discrimination (Inderscience, November
2008). The information gathered via such new technologies would allow websites to develop adverts
that are designed to appeal to each individual consumer and promote products and services the
customer has the greatest interest in. Looking further into the future, websites may be able to work
together to produce and share individual user profiles which contain personal details and information
on preferences that could be used for marketing, or possibly creating universal user logins which give
access to all participating websites.
Although there is strong evidence to suggest that personalisation can greatly improve the appeal of a
website, restraints would still need to be used when setting the level of customisability as too much
can be detrimental to the website by making the experience confusing and feel intrusive (Fung, T.
Dec. 2008).

The Importance Of Government Intervention In Healthcare
Healthcare is a widely debated topic that affects millions of people in this country, whether one is for
universal healthcare or against it. Millions of people across this country have had to deal with
healthcare one way or another. Having the government intervene in such matters makes things
complicated from Cost to HIPPA and Interventions. The purpose of this paper is to discuss why
government intervention should be limited in terms of healthcare.
The first major reason why government intervention poses a problem for most people is the cost. Most
people do not have the means to deal with healthcare without some type of intervention from the
government but the type of intervening they need may cost them more than they were ready to take
on. As costs increase, we hear or read almost daily that some 39 to 40 million people are without
insurance for medical care. (Grosse). This is due to the rising in cost that the government has put on its
citizens. While the government tries it s best to ensure that everyone is well covered there are still
certain situations that cause people to have to pay tremendous amounts of money out of pocket for
medication and supplies necessary for them. A recent government report stated that for Medicare
alone, more than $2 billion dollars is lost every month due to waste, mismanagement, and fraud.
(Grosse). This causes family across the country to have to make up for this loss by paying for it
themselves, and due to the mismanagement of our

aspect of American life was altered by U.S. involvement in the war including demographics, the labor
force, economics and cultural trends. During the Great Depression, the American birth rate had fallen
to an all time low due to delayed marriages and parenthood. In the 1940 s, there was a population

The climate and scenery appealed to many servicemen that had been stationed in the West, and after
the war many relocated there permanently with their families. During the 1940 s wartime production
required more factory workers. With the majority of males being enlisted into the military and the
work force depleted, minorities and women found many opportunities during the war. For most,
involvement became an adventure, a way that every citizen could feel he or she was making an
important contribution to the war effort (Duis, 20). While most women were married, they worked to
keep themselves busy while the males were off at war. Prior to the war only about one fourth of
women worked outside of the home (Bard, 173). By 1945, women made up 36% of the nation s total
workforce (Schultz). After the war, women were advised to leave work and continue their more
traditional role of wife and mother. African Americans improved their economical standing by
accepting war industry positions and through their migration from the south; some became
professionals and skilled workers, yet still facing harsh discrimination. There was a high commitment
of immigrant workers to the war effort that participated heavily in war bond and scrap metal collection
drives. Like African Americans, these immigrants were also subjected to racial prejudice. But overall,
America enjoyed full employment and a higher standard of living

The Columbine Tragedy
The Columbine Tragedy
The student sat at her desk on Monday morning in English class, discussing the details of the weekend
with her best friend. The bell rang at 8:45 a.m. and her teacher started taking attendance. It was a new
week with so many things to accomplish. The teacher finished the morning details by completing
lunch count. She then asked her pupils to quit visiting, and to open their literature books and begin
reading. All of a sudden a sound rings through the hall, but it is not an ordinary school bell. It is loud
and short. It was followed by several more blasts. These blasts were followed by echoes of yelling.
High pitched shrieks could be heard throughout the classroom and possibly throughout the entire
school. A look of terror was seen on the teacher s face. She was trembling as she tried to make sense
of the blasts the students had just heard. She instructed the class to find shelter in the cabinets and
behind desks within the classroom. As the student headed to the cabinets, she glanced at the clock. It
was 8:51 am. The blasts continued and could be heard coming closer to the classroom. She then went
to the door to find... This scenario describes details that could occur at any school during a school
shooting. Students began a normal school day, only to find it changed within minutes. This may be
similar to what the students at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado may have experienced.

627 Words I was walking down the hallway when it happened... Last year wasn t the greatest time of
my life. My parents found something wrong with me that I had tried so hard to hide. At school, I
would feel it coming and left the classroom to go to the bathroom and let it pass. It got up to about
three times a week. I remember the pain, the isolation, the fear, the feeling that I was going crazy and
that I was going to die. I never knew why I couldn t just be like everyone else, why the littlest things

Gender Stereotyping Of Sports Media
Gender stereotyping in sports media is something we see everyday in magazines and on TV. Since
sports were invented, males have dominated one of Canada s largest pastimes. Reasons for this being
physicality and strength, but as time progressed women began to become more involved in the culture
of sport. Today there is almost an equal amount of women participating in sports as man, yet women
are still not being represented with the same approach as men. About a month ago I found a video
online that followed a sports reporter who was trying to make a point about gender stereotyping within
sports media. He would interview professional male athletes but rather than ask them the typical
interview questions we see in male sports, such as has your workout routine changed since... but rather
asked them questions that are typically related to female athlete interviews such as one that was asked
to swimmer Michael Phelps Shaving your body hair gives you an edge in the pool, but how about your
love life , or any comments about reports about your girlish figure . At the end of the video they show
real women athletes being asked these types of questions in real interviews. The men s reactions of
embarrassment to disgust vs. the women s reactions of showing no surprise to being asked these
derogatory questions, says it all. It is no surprise that the sexualization of female athletes is something
all too common in sports media. We ll be looking into the idea of sexualisation in

Black-Tailed Prairie Dogs Summary
This article describes the black tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys Ludovocianus) and their coteries
(polygynous social groups). In these groups, the one adult male reproducing genetically similar
females. The main purpose that the author (John L. Hoogland) tries to convey and support his earlier
work on prairie dogs. In this summary, there is several references to his earlier work, called Analysis
of the Mating System in the Black Tailed Prairie Dog (AMSBTPD). These prairie dogs exist where
some females and pups (yearlings) within the coteries do not breed. Moreover, they behave parentally
towards non offspring. In addition, the Hoogland classified black tailed prairie dogs as cooperative
breeders; however, they do not assist breeders to the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Michener and Murie also argue that Hoogland assumption is based on old information and too soon to
surmise that hypothesis. Hoogland states, equivalent to the former, that the direct relationship between
coterie size and LRS of females is a hypothesis. Also, should not solely determine black tails as
cooperative breeders (Hoogland 1983). I find Hoogland last argument inadequate because he makes a
prediction off statistics that deviate from his original hypothesis. Although it is acceptable, it does not
support his argument; and, consequently, taken advantage of. Future research on the LRS of black
tailed prairie dogs will determine if prairie dogs are cooperatively breeder. These are just a few of the
examples, which I find significant of the arguments that occurs in this

Psychology and Infidelity Liberty University Essay
Emotional and Sexual Infidelity
Liberty University
ABSTRACT There are many ways in which infidelity can be explained depending on what you are
reading or with whom you are speaking. Emotional and sexual infidelity is the two most studied forms
of infidelity. The cognitive approach to infidelity explains that as our cognition is developing, we are
also indirectly learning behaviors that could contribute to infidelity as adults. Infidelity no matter what
the circumstances are surrounding it can leave both partners devastated. The circumstances
surrounding infidelity can include a broad range excuses. The evolutionary approach to infidelity

In a diagram created by Hall (1998), implicit memory is characterized as nonconscious, nonverbal,
emotional, and procedural; whereas explicit memory is conscious, verbal and holistic. In depth,
explicit memory that is conscious can be recalled intentionally. For example, trying to recall a name or
phone number. In contrast, implicit memory consists of motor skills, habits, and activities that can be
remembered without conscious cognitive effort, such as riding a bike or climbing a staircase.
(Feldman, 2011, p.152)
Feldman (2011) further explains that explicit and implicit memories emerge at different rates and
involve different parts of the brain. The earliest memories seem to be implicit, and they involve the
cerebellum and the brain stem. The forerunner of explicit memory involves the hippocampus, but
explicit memory does not emerge until the second half of the first year (p.152). This process is called
habituation, when infants appear to create a neural model or internal representation that can later be
used as a basis for comparisons. Stimuli discrepant from the habituated neural model usually trigger
enhanced responses, or dishabituation. A stimulus perceived as novel requires more cognitive
processing than a familiar one. Over the course of habituation, there is a shift from a familiarity
preference to a novelty preference. Habituation is considered a basic form of learning that has been
observed in a broad range of species. Moreover,

Essay about My Strengths and Weaknesses as a Writer
The art of writing is a complex and difficult process. Proper writing requires careful planning,
revision, and proofreading. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved
significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found
writing them laborious. Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties,
and helped to inspire confidence in my skills. As a collegiate writer, my strength lies in my clear
understanding of the fundamentals of writing, while my primary weakness is proofreading my own

Finding an introductory paragraph that hooks the reader can be troublesome, but throughout the
course, I have spent considerable time developing that technique. The body of my arguments each
exhibit strong support for the thesis. In addition, my conclusions summarize the papers without
restating unnecessary information. Overall, my comprehension of the basic format of an argument has
proved to be a valuable asset. The weakest portion of my writing is my lack of good proofreading. All
papers require a significant amount of proofreading not only for grammatical errors, but also for
structural problems. Proofreading my own work is difficult. Many times, I wrongly assume that the
reader is able to understand my thoughts, while the various points of my argument are actually not
expressed clearly. In some instances, I fail to catch obvious errors, such as sentence fragments or
contractions, which I should be able to eliminate easily from my writing. Proofreading my own work
has consistently been the most difficult part of my writing process, and I continue to struggle with
catching all of the errors in my papers. Analyzing my strengths and weaknesses as a writer is
extremely important. Despite the fact that I understand the structure of a good argument, I still miss
obvious errors in my papers because I lack the skills necessary to properly proofread my own work. In
the future, I plan on spending a large portion of my time

Taylor B. Hart Abstract
Antisocial Personality Disorder is a very rare disorder. The criteria to be diagnosed with Antisocial
Personality Disorder has been changed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
throughout many years. The rareness of this disorder can be considered beneficial in the world
because of the way people diagnosed with it become and what they do to others. Many people
diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder find their self in prison. A variety of causes pertain to
this disorder. Very few treatments of this disorder seem to work of this that has been tested.
Researchers are still working on a better way to treat this disorder. The defense mechanisms associated
with antisocial personality disorder are quite common and the same during the course of diagnosis.
Antisocial Personality Disorder
Antisocial personality disorder (APD or ASPD) is a mental disorder in which a person s approach in
any given situation as well as his style of thinking is neglecting towards others. People with this
disorder are commonly known as psychopaths or sociopaths. An individual with APD shows empathy
and disregards people s thoughts and feelings. Those with APD can be characterized as morally
reprehensible. They are the ones that seem to say all of the right things. Antisocial personality

Airplane Impact
Another author takes a different approach to the effect the military had on the airplane in the military
impact school of thought. Christine MacLeod suggests in his article that the military was the main
reason for the advancement of the airplane at such a rapid pace. With inventors coming from all
corners of the nation to pool their knowledge to advance the airplane during the war, and inventions
getting mixed into other inventions, MacLeod figured that without the war to spur them on at such an

There was a wide range of ideas given, from the military side all the way to the ideas dating back to
the 1200s. This subject of flight and the things that impacted this concept the most has been viewed
for the last 100 years. Throughout this time period, the views have not stayed the same or consistent
from one author to the next. There have been many different angles taken to this idea throughout these
years. There have been many ideological shifts since historians have first started looking at this topic,
one being the shift towards man. This idea that we are the center of everything and we should have our
needs catered to. This idea can have an effect on how historians view this history, with many of the
authors reviewed in this historiography viewed the main impact being the general public. Whether in a
good or bad way, these historians felt that the public was in the middle of the influence. Though this is
not disagreeing with that idea, that thought had an impact on this shifting ideology. The older sources
tend to give the credit to either the Wright Brothers who actually invented flight, or the military or
someone else specific. Though this is not a growing field of study due to no new information coming
out it is still in people s interest to continue to study it. History is a gift given to us in the idea that we

SIP and H323 are two known signalling protocol. SIP was founded by Internet Engineering Task
Force (IETF) while H323 was created by International Telecommunication Union (ITU). However,
SIP is the most one used because it is simple to implement and easy to connected. Due to its simple
implementation and high popularity, SIP is becoming attractive target for many different attackers.
In order to secure SIP against attackers, many security mechanisms have been suggested in the RFC
3261 such as HTTP Digest authentication , TLS, S/MIME. HTPP Digest allow to SIP server to
authenticate the client s identity, however it is discovered vulnerable to many attacks, Then other SIP
authentication are proposed. For more information about SIP authentication see the survey study.
Various attacks can be launched by attackers in SIP environment such as DoS attacks, toll fraud
attacks, fishing attacks and SPIT (Spam over IP Telephony). Dos aims to exhaust servers resources
(Memory, CPU..) and bandwidth. This attack can be caused by malformed message or by flooding
attack. In this work we concentrate on flooding attack. To secure SIP against flooding attacks many
works have been done and various approaches have been proposed. However, the problem still exists
and most of proposed approaches focused on detection of the attack without exploiting its results.

Passage Analysis Although the key passage selected form The Great Gatsby be F. Scott Fitzgerald is a
flashback, it is crucial to recognize the relevance between this passage and the plot of the book.
Looking closer at the passage, it is apparent that Fitzgerald uses characterization and theme to relate
this section back to the plot. The characterization of Gatsby and Daisy eliminates any question of what
occurred between them in their somewhat scandalous past, while exciting the theme simultaneously.
Although many themes are portrayed throughout the novel, the most prominent is the concept of
living in the past. There is nothing wrong with remembering the good times, but living in the past
leads to tragedy. In The Great Gatsby, characters pursue future visions that are determined by their
pasts. Gatsby suffers from past memories of Daisy and tries to relive the relationship and in the
process, Gatsby was murdered. In the key passage above it states She wanted her life shaped now,

ironic considering many years later, Gatsby could not wait any longer for

How to Date a Browngirl, Blackgirl, Whitegirl, and Halfie
The short story How to Date a Browngirl, Blackgirl, Whitegirl, and Halfie by Junot Diaz is the main
character, Yunior s, guide to dating girls of different races and the ways to act in order to get what you
want from them. The only thing Yunior seems to want for these girls is sexual acts. This short story
argues that a person s heritage, economic class, and race affect how a person identifies themselves,
and how their identity affects how they act towards other people. The pressures a person may feel
from society also has an effect on how a person treats themselves and others. The pressure and
expectations from society are also what makes Yunior think he needs to have sex with these girls.

sees other boys doing these things, and he wants to be like them. He wants to be the same and be

Thanks to funds and each of the medical professionals here at the clinic it can be said in the past we
treated each patient with beneficence, including the undocumented. Each of you provided the best care
you could albeit the numerous circumstances we have encountered and acted with kindness, mercy,
and charity towards our patients (Beauchamp Childress, 2013). Before each of you started working
here you each swore to provide care within your scope of practice, care for patients with altruism and
without prejudice. By providing solely emergency care to undocumented immigrants we will still be
providing routine care and abiding by our call of duty. Some individuals may view this as non
beneficent and prejudice due to the clinic no longer providing care to the undocumented that are

emergency care goes above the routine call of duty. In combination with limiting care to the
undocumented, the board has come to an agreement on additional services that we can ration
appropriately. Undocumented individuals and those who enter our facility that need additional care,
besides emergency treatment or services we have limited, will be transferred by ambulance to
neighboring clinics that have the appropriate means to care for them. This alone is an act of

Rhetorical Analysis Of How To Be 100
It is quite interesting to know how long people live, and what is the average lifespan of a human
being. Dan Buettner longevity expert in his presentation How to Live to Be 100+ argues the lifestyle
from the world s longest lived people and provide a model for extending our longevity through natural
movement and purposeful living. He shows how we can compare our lifestyle to those living in the
Blue Zone s and what we can take away from their routines, diets, exercise and other beliefs. In
addition, it is important to look at our current lifestyle and habits, if we are living in a way that is
going to help us reach our potential maximum life span. With the right lifestyle, there are chances that
we may live up to a decade longer. I agree with the Blue Zones lifestyle. In order to live longer and
healthier we need to exercise often but make it enjoyable, Avoid eating unhealthy food and establish a

For people in the blue zones it comes in natural as Buettner says, they were either born into or they
proactively surrounded with the right people (11). However, the way to establish a healthier system is
to surround yourself with family members and good friends who you could share your stories with
them. Having a good, system of support not only enables peoples to help each other, but also enables
them to express their feelings, including happiness and sadness s and other aspect of confidence. For
example, when we are feeling bad everything in the world seems differently to us, because our bad
mood can affect our thinking process, but talking to someone you trust or a good friend who shares
your value could propose a good solution that can help to reduce your stresses and find away to solve
your problem. Therefore, being connected with good people is a natural way to decrease stress and

Blade Runner What Makes Someone Human
What Makes Someone Human C. Joy Bell C. once said, There is some kind of a sweet innocence in
being human, in not having to be just happy or just sad, in the nature of being able to be both broken
and whole, at the same time. Blade Runner, the film directed by Ridley Scott, brings one to ask
oneself: what really makes someone human? The replicants in this film are an advanced version of
humans, bioengineered and cloned to be stronger, faster, and smarter than humans. Replicants do not
last long, and are retired before they can evolve to have their own emotions or thoughts, many of them
know that they are replicants, but there are a few who have lived believing they are human. Deckard
shows no emotion when he is assigned to retire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The replicants themselves are not supposed to be able to feel or understand emotion whatsoever, but
there are however a few newer replicants that have been implanted with memory chips and do not
even know they are not human. Rachael, for example, truly believes she is Tyrell s niece. Some
viewers even believe that Deckard himself is one of these higher technologically advanced replicants
implanted with a memory chip, further skewing the lines between what is human, and what is not.
There are a few scenes that are specifically set to make the viewer question Deckard s humanity for
example; the scene in which Rachael asks Deckard whether or not he has passed the Voight Kampff
test himself, and receives no answer. Another indicator that Deckard is, in fact, a replicant is when he
gets beaten by three different replicants in the later half of the film, yet shows little to no sign of
affliction. Through scenes such as these Ridley Scott builds up the question of Deckard s own
humanity. Producer Michael Deeley points out, Should the replicants kill to gain moral life? Should
Harrison Ford be killing them simply because they want to exist? These questions begin to tangle up
Deckard s thinking... especially when he becomes involved with a female replicant

Impact Of Colonisation On The Aztecs
What has been the nature and impact of colonisation on the Aztecs?
In the early 15th and 16th centuries many European countries sailed to the west to explore The
Americas. Spain was one of these countries that sailed to The Americas. The Spanish leader of the
expedition was Hernan Cortez and this expedition became known as the Conquistadors of Mexico. In
1519, Tenochtitlan was the centre of the Aztec empire, which conquered and colonised by Cortez and
his Conquistadores overthrowing Aztec rule. Therefore, the impact of Cortez and the Conquistadores
had a chain reaction, which had a huge impact on the Aztec lifestyle.
The Aztecs settled a city known as Tenochtitlan. It was located on a swampy island in Lake Texcoco
in Mexico. The Aztecs settled

Thomas Jefferson And The American West
Even as a young boy in the Virginia frontier, exploration and the pursuit of knowledge captivated the
imagination of Thomas Jefferson. His father, an experienced cartographer and explorer, is often cited
as the inspiration for Jefferson s fixation on the West. As he grew older, Jefferson realized that the
American West was not an empty wilderness, but a land crowded by conflicting nations and claims of
sovereignty that only a few fur traders had experienced. Once Jefferson acquired the Louisiana
territory from Napoleon in 1803, he sent an expedition led by two of his colleagues, Meriwether
Lewis and William Clark, with the mission of quenching his thirst for knowledge. The official goal of
the expedition was to explore the newly purchased territory, but Jefferson had other goals as well. He
asked Lewis and Clark to take careful observations of the natural resources and geography of the West
to see what economic possibilities existed in the area. Jefferson realized that the Natives Americans in
the area needed to be informed about the purchase and that the United States would be a larger
presence than before. He sent the expedition to establish good relations with the various tribes. They
had a planned speech for each tribe and gave medals to all of the chiefs to signal the goodwill of the
Americans. An added bonus to the new friendships between Americans and Indian tribes is less trade
for the French and British, who, up until now dominated the trade in the Great Plains.

Earth/Environmental Science

Aurora Borealis/Aurora Australis The Aurora Borealis, more commonly known as the Northern
Lights, are visible particles and energy from the sun. This energy can be so bright it lights up the sky
completely and or so thin and fleeting that is can be mistaken for scattered stars or even the milky way
galaxy. Auroras can appear in different intensities all in the same night. This event is caused by the
nitrogen and oxygen from Earth s upper atmospheres mixing with electrons in fast moving bursts from
Solar flares. The electrons are controlled by the earth s electrical fields; this is called the
Magnetosphere. Normally the Magnetosphere has a stream of electrons combining with ... Show more

Sense the Solar flares are guided by strong magnetic fields the largest and most often occurrences of
the Aurora Borealis is in the Northern magnetic poles of the Earth. The Aurora Borealis has a twin of
sorts that occurs in the Southern hemisphere and is known as the Aurora Australis, the same reaction
occurred. These are where the strongest magnetic fields occur, spreading out from those points and
around the Earth. This way the sun can only access the Earth at these points or else the flares would
loose energy and not be strong enough to create a visible light stream. The Auroras were first recorded
and studied by ancient Greeks and Chinese. Named for the Roman god of the dawn, Aurora, but also
derives from the Greek word for the Northern wind, Boreas. Its sister, Aurora Australis, is named for
the latin word for from the South . Often times in the South the Aurora is less common and slightly
weaker. Although much has been studied about the Auroras there is still many aspects that are being
debated within the scientific community. The Aurora Borealis is very sought after to see and has been
named one of the seven wonders of the

These are the standard wedding vows and though, they are a married couple, these vows still play a role in any serious relationship. It is the promise of two people that they will be there, no matter what happens. However, things happen and, suddenly, that promise turns into a broken agreement. For instance, in the play Angels in America written by Tony Kushner, the character Louis leaves Prior because he has a terminal illness: AIDS. Therefore, their vow breaks the stable relationship. The Negative Effects Of Globalization After reading the history of this person, I experienced different feelings in the first pride that in this world there are still such people, secondly the sadness that I as a person still failed to do something extraordinary for this world. From what I have read, I have noticed, to a large extent, the positive aspects of globalization. Even Samir himself speaks about this that they greatly influenced him Globalization has had a very strong effect on me. In the sense that globalization can influence us in terms of thinking, because we thought at home differently than when we are in another country, and we have to think and act differently. We could read above how the globalization of the pop industry influences the world, the young generation s world that movies and TV shows dictate to the world how we live and dress. The world of music I want to talk about it and about how music affects globalization. After all, every nation and people has and has the roots of musical style and sound (its folk music) but the tendencies of the new world are changing everything and the US is one of the biggest industries that influence it. We remember how the first emo, Goths and other fans of these themes appeared. And the fact that music affects us on our feelings, because under every mood we listen to different music. When sad we listen to the sad and etc. Everyone has his own idol which we end up trying to please. As a result, the younger generation forgets the style and sound that was inherent in its people. Peasants formed the largest group within the third estate, more than 80% of 26 million people in France. The poor had no part or say the decisions that the government would make. Peasants and the rest of the third estate were expected to pay an enormous amount of taxes, that the second and first estate did not have to pay. For example, there was bad weather around 1780 caused a widespread of crop failures, resulting in a shortage of grain. That lead to the doubled price of bread, peasants could not afford to purchase the bread because of the outrageous amount of taxes that they had to pay, this lead to many people in the third estate facing starvation. Not only was this unfair for the peasants, it made them become outraged, and lead them to the beginning of the Great Fear. To continue, the Great Fear was a wave of senseless panic that swept through france. Rumors circled that nobles were hiring outlaws to terrorize the peasants. In the time frame of anti Soviet Russia, Stalin is in power. There is a constant fear of each other, the government, the secret police, and a fear of sharing their thoughts and feelings. • 11. Impact Of The Atomic Bombs On Nagasaki And Hiroshima The impact of the atomic bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima were the most destructive singular air strikes against Japan. However, fire raids conducted by Major General Curtis E. Lemay were a significant factor in the air campaign against Japan. They also inflicted more casualties to the Japanese populous and damage to Japanese infrastructure than the atomic bombs (Hanson 60). The decision and execution of these attacks by General Lemay contributed to the overall success of the pacific campaign. The changes that General Lemay made to the XXI Bomber Command created more victories for the Americans with a lower casualty rate. These victories can also be attributed to the success of air power at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels of war. Prior to General Lemay s control of the XXI Bomber Command, Brigadier General Haywood S. Hansell Jr. was conducting high altitude bombing campaigns on Japanese infrastructure. The bombing command had a solid foundation with its safe base infrastructure, tactics, and organization of command. B 29s stationed at bases in Guam, Tinian, Saipan and Iwo Jima were being more well constructed leading to less problems during air raids. With better aircraft, missions could have fewer issues occurring leading to higher success rates. The major setback that aircrafts were having was the weather. • 12. The Long History Of Summer Camp The words summer camp conjure up fond memories of campfires, s mores, pranks, and color war for many Americans. What appeals to many campers, or prospective campers, is the keeping of tradition. Many campers can trace back their relatives who attended the very same camp, and find delight in the idea of shared experiences with their close, or distant, relatives. The long history of summer camps in America stems from an annual trip William Frederick Gunn began to take in 1861 in order to expose young boys to what life in the wilderness has to offer. Originally, the Gunn s theory was that the experience would strengthen not merely muscle, nerve, and self discipline, but developed a masculine character as well. This applied specifically for boys, but camps for girls first appeared in 1902 with the opening of Camp Kehonka, in reflection of the changing attitudes with reference to the role of women in society. Sleepaway camps become a prominent institution in America in the 1900 s that influenced the youth of this country, and continues to do so over one hundred years later, as thousands of summer camps still run every summer, many of which are the same camps that sparked this burgeoning trend. The development of this idiosyncratic principle in American life can be understood through the development of various widespread opinions during, and before, the first sleepaway camp was founded. To fully understand the roots of the summer camp ideology, it is imperative to look ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Keeping Briton’s Religious Origins Alive through Ancient... A trend of unhappy endings was consistent in literary works of the Medieval period, where the heroes and heroines don t live happily ever after but are instead brought great strife and are eventually killed. These tales were often reflections of the old heritage of the Britons as their religious influence persevered even after being marginalized both geographically and politically. Rather than reflecting the pessimism of the Britons after being conquered by outside forces, the tales reminded the people of the worthiness of their suffering as they connected to the heroes and heroines in the stories. Furthermore, the persistence of these religious genres is evidenced in ancient literature such as Beowulf, The Myth of Arthur s Return, or Diedru and the Exile of the Sons of Uisliu, as they retained remnants of origins of the Britons religious beliefs. In Beowulf, King Hrothgar, the ruler of Danes, is troubled by the rampages of a demon named Grendel. Fortunately, a young Geat warrior, Beowulf, travels from his own kingdom across the seas, to Heorot Hall offering his assistance with the pest problem. Before the tale has even really reached the action of the story, there are already subtle hints of Christ like similitude and religious characteristics. Beowulf, like Christ, is from a foreign land and travels to a distant place to save a kingdom s people from the evil demon that haunts and terrorizes them. The srcML format is an XML representation for source code, where the markup tags identify elements of the abstract syntax for the language. As the name implies, the goal for srcMX is to promote the manipulation and exploration of source code. Currently, source code can be converted to the srcML format using the srcml command line tool. However, this requires the user to view the results using an external application. The srcMX application is the first to allow users to convert source code the the srcML format and view the results. In addition, my application also provides users with the ability to visualize query results. The srcMX application consists of several modular views. At the top, the main toolbar contains a variety of controls. Here, the user can add files to the project, toggle the visibility of application views, and browse through the history of opened files. The main toolbar also contains a large status bar that displays information about the project. To the right, a slider controls the visibility of srcML tags in the code viewport. New files can be added to a project by expanding the drop down button in the main tool bar. This opens a window that allows the user to specify the type of file he or she wishes to add. I cut the pay of civilian federal workers by 5 percent. People in the federal government get paid more and more every year while citizens of our country get paid a lower minimum wage than a lot of other places in the world. The customisation features mentioned above are only the beginning of the personalisation movement, as user monitoring technologies continue to progress, websites will have much greater access to information and be able to use this information in more productive ways. One example is Digital Rights Management (DRM) which was initially developed to prevent copyright infringement, however more advanced forms of DRM can now be used to gather digital media usage data which is used to develop preference profiles and implement price discrimination (Inderscience, November 2008). The information gathered via such new technologies would allow websites to develop adverts that are designed to appeal to each individual consumer and promote products and services the customer has the greatest interest in. Looking further into the future, websites may be able to work together to produce and share individual user profiles which contain personal details and information on preferences that could be used for marketing, or possibly creating universal user logins which give access to all participating websites. Although there is strong evidence to suggest that personalisation can greatly improve the appeal of a website, restraints would still need to be used when setting the level of customisability as too much can be detrimental to the website by making the experience confusing and feel intrusive (Fung, T. The Importance Of Government Intervention In Healthcare Healthcare is a widely debated topic that affects millions of people in this country, whether one is for universal healthcare or against it. Millions of people across this country have had to deal with healthcare one way or another. Having the government intervene in such matters makes things complicated from Cost to HIPPA and Interventions. The purpose of this paper is to discuss why government intervention should be limited in terms of healthcare. The first major reason why government intervention poses a problem for most people is the cost. Most people do not have the means to deal with healthcare without some type of intervention from the government but the type of intervening they need may cost them more than they were ready to take on. As costs increase, we hear or read almost daily that some 39 to 40 million people are without insurance for medical care. (Grosse). This is due to the rising in cost that the government has put on its citizens. While the government tries it s best to ensure that everyone is well covered there are still certain situations that cause people to have to pay tremendous amounts of money out of pocket for medication and supplies necessary for them. A recent government report stated that for Medicare alone, more than $2 billion dollars is lost every month due to waste, mismanagement, and fraud. (Grosse). American Homefront During World War II Essay The American home front during World War II is recalled warmly in popular memory and cultural myth as a time of unprecedented national unity, years in which Americans stuck together in common cause. World War II brought many new ideas and changes to American life. Even though World War II brought no physical destruction to the United States mainland, it did affect American society. Every aspect of American life was altered by U.S. involvement in the war including demographics, the labor force, economics and cultural trends. The climate and scenery appealed to many servicemen that had been stationed in the West, and after the war many relocated there permanently with their families. During the 1940 s wartime production required more factory workers. With the majority of males being enlisted into the military and the work force depleted, minorities and women found many opportunities during the war. For most, involvement became an adventure, a way that every citizen could feel he or she was making an important contribution to the war effort (Duis, 20). While most women were married, they worked to keep themselves busy while the males were off at war. Prior to the war only about one fourth of women worked outside of the home (Bard, 173). By 1945, women made up 36% of the nation s total workforce (Schultz). After the war, women were advised to leave work and continue their more traditional role of wife and mother. African Americans improved their economical standing by accepting war industry positions and through their migration from the south; some became professionals and skilled workers, yet still facing harsh discrimination. There was a high commitment of immigrant workers to the war effort that participated heavily in war bond and scrap metal collection drives. Like African Americans, these immigrants were also subjected to racial prejudice. But overall, America enjoyed full employment and a higher standard of living ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since sports were invented, males have dominated one of Canada s largest pastimes. Reasons for this being physicality and strength, but as time progressed women began to become more involved in the culture of sport. Today there is almost an equal amount of women participating in sports as man, yet women are still not being represented with the same approach as men. In a diagram created by Hall (1998), implicit memory is characterized as nonconscious, nonverbal, emotional, and procedural; whereas explicit memory is conscious, verbal and holistic. In depth, explicit memory that is conscious can be recalled intentionally. For example, trying to recall a name or phone number. In contrast, implicit memory consists of motor skills, habits, and activities that can be remembered without conscious cognitive effort, such as riding a bike or climbing a staircase. (Feldman, 2011, p.152) Feldman (2011) further explains that explicit and implicit memories emerge at different rates and involve different parts of the brain. The earliest memories seem to be implicit, and they involve the cerebellum and the brain stem. The forerunner of explicit memory involves the hippocampus, but explicit memory does not emerge until the second half of the first year (p.152). This process is called habituation, when infants appear to create a neural model or internal representation that can later be used as a basis for comparisons. Stimuli discrepant from the habituated neural model usually trigger enhanced responses, or dishabituation. A stimulus perceived as novel requires more cognitive processing than a familiar one. Over the course of habituation, there is a shift from a familiarity preference to a novelty preference. • 45. Blade Runner What Makes Someone Human What Makes Someone Human C. Joy Bell C. once said, There is some kind of a sweet innocence in being human, in not having to be just happy or just sad, in the nature of being able to be both broken and whole, at the same time. Blade Runner, the film directed by Ridley Scott, brings one to ask oneself: what really makes someone human? The replicants in this film are an advanced version of humans, bioengineered and cloned to be stronger, faster, and smarter than humans. Replicants do not last long, and are retired before they can evolve to have their own emotions or thoughts, many of them know that they are replicants, but there are a few who have lived believing they are human. Deckard shows no emotion when he is assigned to retire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The replicants themselves are not supposed to be able to feel or understand emotion whatsoever, but there are however a few newer replicants that have been implanted with memory chips and do not even know they are not human. Rachael, for example, truly believes she is Tyrell s niece. Some viewers even believe that Deckard himself is one of these higher technologically advanced replicants implanted with a memory chip, further skewing the lines between what is human, and what is not. There are a few scenes that are specifically set to make the viewer question Deckard s humanity for example; the scene in which Rachael asks Deckard whether or not he has passed the Voight Kampff test himself, and receives no answer. Another indicator that Deckard is, in fact, a replicant is when he gets beaten by three different replicants in the later half of the film, yet shows little to no sign of affliction. Through scenes such as these Ridley Scott builds up the question of Deckard s own humanity. Producer Michael Deeley points out, Should the replicants kill to gain moral life? Should Harrison Ford be killing them simply because they want to exist? These questions begin to tangle up Deckard s thinking... especially when he becomes involved with a female replicant ... • 48. Thomas Jefferson And The American West Even as a young boy in the Virginia frontier, exploration and the pursuit of knowledge captivated the imagination of Thomas Jefferson. His father, an experienced cartographer and explorer, is often cited as the inspiration for Jefferson s fixation on the West. As he grew older, Jefferson realized that the American West was not an empty wilderness, but a land crowded by conflicting nations and claims of sovereignty that only a few fur traders had experienced. Once Jefferson acquired the Louisiana territory from Napoleon in 1803, he sent an expedition led by two of his colleagues, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, with the mission of quenching his thirst for knowledge. The official goal of the expedition was to explore the newly purchased territory, but Jefferson had other goals as well. He asked Lewis and Clark to take careful observations of the natural resources and geography of the West to see what economic possibilities existed in the area. Jefferson realized that the Natives Americans in the area needed to be informed about the purchase and that the United States would be a larger presence than before. He sent the expedition to establish good relations with the various tribes. They had a planned speech for each tribe and gave medals to all of the chiefs to signal the goodwill of the Americans. An added bonus to the new friendships between Americans and Indian tribes is less trade for the French and British, who, up until now dominated the trade in the Great Plains. ... Aurora Bolaris Research Paper Jill Turner Ms. Powell Earth/Environmental Science August 12, 2015 Aurora Borealis/Aurora Australis The Aurora Borealis, more commonly known as the Northern Lights, are visible particles and energy from the sun. This energy can be so bright it lights up the sky completely and or so thin and fleeting that is can be mistaken for scattered stars or even the milky way galaxy. Auroras can appear in different intensities all in the same night. This event is caused by the nitrogen and oxygen from Earth s upper atmospheres mixing with electrons in fast moving bursts from Solar flares. The electrons are controlled by the earth s electrical fields; this is called the Magnetosphere. Normally the Magnetosphere has a stream of electrons combining with ... These are where the strongest magnetic fields occur, spreading out from those points and around the Earth. This way the sun can only access the Earth at these points or else the flares would loose energy and not be strong enough to create a visible light stream. The Auroras were first recorded and studied by ancient Greeks and Chinese. Named for the Roman god of the dawn, Aurora, but also derives from the Greek word for the Northern wind, Boreas. Its sister, Aurora Australis, is named for the latin word for from the South . Often times in the South the Aurora is less common and slightly weaker.
