The Theme of Escape in The Glass Menagerie Essay
The Theme of Escape in The Glass Menagerie In The Glass Menagerie, Tennessee Williams uses the
theme of escape to help drive the play forward. None of the characters are capable of living in the real
world. Laura, Amanda, Tom and Jim use various methods to escape the brutalities of life. Laura
retreats into a world of glass animals and old records. Amanda is obsessed with living in her past. Tom
escapes into his world of poetry writing and movies. Jim also reverts to his past and remembers the
days when he was a high school hero. Mr. Wingfield is referred to often throughout the play. He is the
ultimate symbol of escape. This is because he has managed to remove himself from the desperate
situation that the rest of the family is still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is unable to cope with reality and she escapes back into her fantasy world of old records and glass
figurines. Amanda is obsessed with her past, and uses it to escape reality, as she constantly reminds
Tom and Laura of the time she received seventeen gentlemen callers. The reader cannot even be sure
that this actually happened. However, it is clear despite its possible falseness, Amanda has come to
believe it. She refuses to acknowledge that her daughter is crippled and refers to her handicap as
quot;a little defect hardly noticeable quot; (Williams 1648). Only for brief moments does she ever
admit that her daughter is quot;crippled quot; and then resorts back to denial. Amanda doesn t perceive
anything realistically. She believes that this gentleman caller, Jim is going to be the man to rescue
Laura and she hasn t even met him yet. When Jim arrives, Amanda is dressed in a quot;girlish frock
quot; she wore on the day that she met their father and she regresses to the childish, giddy days of
entertaining gentleman callers. Amanda uses her past as a means to escape the reality she does not
want to face. Tom escapes reality in many different ways. The first and most obvious is the fire escape
that leads him away from his unhappy home. He also escapes into his world of poetry writing and
movies. The more Amanda nags, the more Tom seems to need his movie escapes. They take him to

Indentured Servants During The Colonial Era
Labor in colonial America was scarce. Explain the development of using indentured servants for labor
in the colonies. Below are some of the items you may include:
Indentured servants? beginning and decline
Changes, problems, and issues with indentured servant labor
Unintended consequences of using indentured servants
During the colonial era, was it better to be an indentured servant, or a slave? In current day, one could
argue that both are preposterous notions, however for the time, was either beneficial for anyone?
Looking back on how to country developed following this time, through the years of slavery in the
civil war, it may look like the only people to benefit from slavery or having an indentured servant, is
the owner. Despite how either has looked throughout many of the eras of this country, being an
indentured servant had very good potential for benefiting the servant. One may ask, how could anyone
benefit from being a servant? Even though this may seem like a very logical question, to those
involved in this life style, it all made sense. Let?s take a look at it from their point of view. When early
settlers were attempting to colonize here in the new land, the first successful colony wasn?t actually
established by the English government. In fact, it had been the successful venture of a privately owned
business, The Virginia Company of London. This company was actually comprised of investors with
seemingly good intentions. Their end goal was to extend

Pros And Cons Of Agency Theory
Agency theory is concerned with the agency relationships. The two parties have an agency
relationship when they cooperate and engage in association wherein one party the principal delegates
decisions and /or work to another an agent to act on its behalf (Tan Lee, 2015). The important
assumptions underlying agency theory is that potential goal conflicts exists between principals and
agents; each party acts in its own self interest; information asymmetry frequently exists between
principals and agents; agents are more risk averse than the principal; and efficiency is the
effectiveness criterion (Miller Sardais, 2011; Kingston Haijie, 2014). Two potential problems
stemming from this assumption may arise in agency relationships: an agency problem and a risk
sharing problem. An agency problem appears when agents goal differs from the principals and it is
difficult or expensive to verify whether agents have appropriately performed the delegated work.
A risk sharing problem arises when agents have different attitudes towards risk that cause
disagreements about actions to be taken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is achieved through improved public service delivery and more informed policy design. In many
countries, especially developing ones, the government fails to deliver key essential services to its
citizens due to problems such as: misallocation of resources, leakages or corruption, weak incentives
or a lack of articulated demand (William, 2002). Similarly, governments often formulate policies in a
discretionary and non transparent manner that goes against the interests and actual priorities of the
poor, these problems are perpetuated because the three key groups of actors in the public policy and
service delivery chain policy makers, service providers and citizens have different (sometimes
conflicting) goals and incentives, compounded by information asymmetries and lack of
communication (William,

Why Was Athens Important To Greek Theatre
Before the concept of the television, there was the play. Theatre, despite not being as watched as
movies and television today, is just as important if not more. Without theatre, we wouldn t have acting
or stories, and a world without stories would be very bland. You can t have a story without characters
and setting, and that s what theatre did. Now, theatre wasn t really popular until one part in history,
and that was in the time of Athens, Greece. Why was Athens so important in theatre and plays, you
may ask? Well, that was because of their comedy. So, it s 6th Century BC, also known as the Hellenic
era. Greece is the world superpower at the time, but everyone in Greece has all these rules. Most of
the plays at the time were just mythologies

Reflection Of Visual Art
1a. Central focus for the segment
The central focus of the lesson is for students to demonstrate and show use of space, contrast, and
balance while creating an original idea that displays and the use of positive and negative space in an
equal amount. The purpose is for students to understand the elements and principles of visual arts,
which are value, contrast and balance. Students also learn how these concepts are still being used in
today s society.
1b. Linking skills, knowledge, and context
This is a first year class, so many students are unfamiliar with terms, such as value, contrast, space,
and balance, in terms of art. The students are familiar with the words, but are unfamiliar with how it
pertains to art. New definitions and techniques are introduced in this lesson. Students will continue to
use these new vocabulary terms in future lessons.
In this project students are required to make a total positive space image. To complete this, students
are to use line and shape in their design. The previous projects and lessons in this course focused on
the use of line and shape, so this project reinforces those terms and techniques so students will use
them in future projects.
The last aspect of this assignment is for students to see how the use of space makes interesting
designs. I show the students images of logos and symbols that effectively use positive and negative
space. With this, students can relate to the images and see how these techniques are still being used

Essay On Master Of Social Work
The growing elderly population is becoming a serious problem in many countries including the United
States. As a result, enhancing the quality of care and promoting the well being for elderly patients are
among concerns that every family have been questioning. Many disabled, bedridden or in need of long
term care elderly need help to be able to get a good quality of care with a limited budget. The current
economic is making this situation worse as cost of medical care and cost of living is escalating,
especially in the Bay Area. This problem resonates in me and I hope to someday work on finding a
solution. This is the reason why I want to apply or Master of Social Work at CSU East Bay. I believe
with skills and knowledge through this program, I will be able to reach out and provide appropriate
methods to meet the need and to help elderly people live better.
My interest in the elderly was beginning when I was a child. Growing up with my grandmother deeply
influenced my value and behaviors. She taught me to be independent , well disciplined, and always be

Reliability Of Political Authority In Classical China
The stability and reliability of political authority in China, namely a centralized monarchy, differed
from Rome s so called republic, which provoked rebellion and political chaos due to the local
authorities focus on expansion and lack of control in the empire. Political stability was dominant
feature throughout most of classical China, although times of warring, namely the Era of Warring
States (5th to 3rd c. CE) and the Age of Division (3rd to 6th c. CE), did exist. However, the success of
the dynastic structure of Chinese governments has been constant for almost the entirety of Chinese
history, and brief periods of conflict are insignificant in comparison. The contrast in political
leadership is illustrated by how supreme authority was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The republic failed to function effectively, prompting tyrant after tyrant to make his quest to the
throne. This difference occurred because of the societies different approach to the equality of
distribution of leadership in military conquests and the homeland. Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty
expanded north into Korea and south into Vietnam by 111 BCE, and used the tributary system to
effectively contact foreign authorities and communicate with those in his empire; however, in contrast,
Roman legionaries participated in Roman Punic Wars and wars of conquest (3rd and 2nd c. BCE),
deserting their land in the empire, and the wars were halted when the struggles for authority began as
the legionaries returned to find their land in unorganized chaos. Emperor Wu s ability to expand his
empire and communicate with foreign societies and authorities while maintaining order in China
allowed expansion to continue. In contrast the absence of Roman legionaries controlling farmland
caused such farms to become less successful and productive, as there was an nonexistence of

Getting Out Of A Sound Of Squealing Brakes
The familiar sound of squealing brakes signaled the beginning of the best part of my night. Getting out
of the house, without a sound, was the tricky part. If I timed it just right, I could use the car s engine to
my advantage and cover the creak from the door. Once I was outside, I was in the clear. I scampered
over to the XL white Suburban and gingerly climbed into the passenger seat. My mom sat inside,
listening to soft jazz, decompressing from a long day s work as a nurse in the ICU. As with most
nights, she feigned annoyance before excitedly walking me through the events at the hospital. Some
nights were filled with triumphant saves, others drowned in an untimely loss. The stories varied, yet a
central idea remained: take care of the person instead of the patient. In my youth, her stories registered
at face value. All too soon, I would see the truth in her words firsthand.
It started with a dull ache through my left ear immediately following diving practice. A number of
weeks passed, allowing the ache to progress to a stabbing pain. My family grew concerned with my
discomfort, culminating in a visit to an otolaryngologist. It took Dr. C only a moment to confirm what
my pediatrician had suspected. I had a tumor. Any other physician would have referred to it as a
cholesteatoma. Dr. C never used that word with me. There was no use for medical jargon; he knew it
was not what I needed to hear. Instead, Dr. C understood how scary the word tumor sounded and
recognized I

any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another in

American Civic Participation In The 20th Century
Stephanie Neira
American Society
May 13, 2015
Final Exam
1.
American civic participation has changed in the 20th century. The first way civic participation has
changed is social liberation. Since the 1960s or so, exclusions on the basis of race and gender have
been breached. In the past, women and ethnic minorities were not allowed to join organizations as
members, so they joined partner organizations. However, some organizations were unable to cope with
change after the Civil Rights Movement happened and ideals changed and lost membership. Another
change is the decline in American patriotism. Skocpol writes, Patriotism, brotherhood, and sacrifice
were values celebrated by all fraternal groups, and military service was touted as the surest ... Show

Even though capitalism has its advantages such as fueling technological innovations, there are some
downsides to it. For example, capitalism creates inequalities and clear winners or losers in society.
However, some people blame the poor for their circumstances and attribute their economic misfortune
as due to a lack of morality (Lecture April 22, 2015).Those who blame the poor for their laziness are
unlikely to support welfare programs, such as food stamps, because they see those as handouts. Other
factors that divide United States citizens include LGBTQ issues, views of centralized government,
immigration, and gender issues. Americans are divided so politically due to their personal stances on
issues. Class, race, and gender definitely plays a role in the division. People side with politicians who
reflect their personal views and can implement policies that help them.

backgrounds. Assisting will help job seekers prepared to enter into the Canadian job market. What this
mean is that, new Canadians sometimes find it hard to adapt to life in Canada due to their limited
social networks, lack of Canadian experience and credentials, as well as the country s uncertain and
slowly recovering economy and complex job market. This is mostly what a certain person faces when
migrating from other countries into Canada. Not only are new Canadians finding it harder to find
positions on par with their education and experience, but it s also taking them longer to reach the same
employment and income levels as their Canadian born counterparts, which many clients encounter at
this stage. Therefore, my agency mission is to look for a better way to merge job seekers from
different background. They achieve this by supplying them with employment services, which is

Homeowner Relief Programs
Attention, you just lost more than 50% of your home s value and since you are in default on your

warnings of financial experts, led to a series of events that were exposed as a result of the bubble
bursting. In the wake of such financial devastation was the onset of various homeowner relief
programs designed to prevent a plethora of foreclosures and reduce further damages to the economy.

Failure to implement homeowner relief programs would yield results that far exceeded local and state
boundaries creating a nationwide catastrophe. As it is with the wide array of relief programs that 30%
of those who qualified for relief have defaulted again (ElBoghdady, 2014). Now, imagine the level of
defaults if such programs did not exist. The lasting impacts of such programs could do wonders for the
borrowers receiving help from the modifications or aid associated with the aforementioned relief
programs. However, this would be less than desirable from an investor position who contributed to or
agreed to offer relief in various forms. The unknown variables in the housing market could fall and
result in the borrowers being upside again. Further affecting the banks with undervalued assets could
result in a loss of investor confidence and face a collapse similar to that of Lehman Brothers. Although
Lehman Brothers had other contributing factors to their collapse, contributory actions in the collapse
was a result of bad mortgages and lack of investment to sustain its debts and operating expenses. Not
having programs such as these could result in large investment firms either going out of business or
the government deciding to use tax payer dollars to bail out the investment banks. Either way this
depreciates property value and reduces income. The second and third order affects associated with
reduced income and plummeting property values will directly affect consumer spending. This absence
of consumer spending will create a ripple effect that could result in less supply and demand and
increase unemployment. All of which could put the country into a depression that it may not be able to

Peter Singer Equality
In All Animals Are Equal, Peter Singer argues that any being with sentience should be granted equal
moral consideration on the basis of the concept of equality and the principle of equal consideration of
interests. In this paper, I will reconstruct Singer s argument and explain the premises on how he came
to this conclusion. To begin with, Singer defines sentience as the capacity to suffer or experience
enjoyment or happiness (Singer 53). Singer states that if a being is not capable of suffering, or of
experiencing enjoyment or happiness, there is nothing to be taken into account... This is why the limit
of sentience... is the only defensible boundary of concern for the interests of other (Singer 50).
Firstly, Singer claims that we should understand the concept of equality as a reason for accepting the
conclusion of his argument. What he means by this is that the concept of equality is a moral ideal and
not a simple assertion of fact (Singer 52). In other words, when we say that all human beings are
equal, we do not assert that they are in fact equal in intelligence, moral capacity, physical strength, or
similar matters of fact. Instead, we assert that they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is to say, for any being that has interests, these interests must be taken as equally morally
important with similar interests of another being. However, Singer notes that equal consideration of
interests does not imply identical treatment. Instead, Singer argues that the principle of equality is
equality of equal consideration for different beings may lead to different treatment and rights (Singer
50). Extending to nonhuman animals the same moral consideration we extend to human beings means
that we give the interests of nonhuman animals the same weight as comparable interests of human
beings (Singer

Universal Design Analysis
The Universal Design (UDL) for Learning and the heutagogical approach to learning were the topics
studied during this week in Design and Instruction of Online Courses. These two concepts were new
to me. The UDL is an approach to curriculum development that provides flexibility in the ways
information is presented, in the ways students demonstrate knowledge and skills, and in the way
students are engaged. The purpose of this approach is to meet the diverse learning styles and needs for
all students, including students with disabilities and students who require ESL support. UDL offers
students equal access to learning and equal opportunity to participate in their own learning by opening
several learning pathways and using assistive technology. Some examples of assistive technologies are
captioned video, speech recognition applications, audio players and recorders, reading guides
applications etc.

integrated into the rooms to give the children an early introduction to computer technology. They also
provide opportunities for hands on activities, which is a great way for children of all ages to get in

technology is used everywhere and it is better to learn early on in life.
Next, the facility has immense safety precautions including locked doors, security cameras, good

America Faces A Wealth Gap
Veronica Gonzalez
James Okrasinski
English 1102
3 March 2015 America faces a wealth gap. Those born in the lower class struggle moving up.
Although the United States has long thought of itself as a nation where anyone who gets schooling and
works hard can move ahead on the basis of their achievement, the facts tell otherwise. Children born
into high income families have about twice as much chance of becoming middle class or better in their
adult years as those born into the lower classes. A way in which the lower income kids can beat the
chances is by getting a college degree. Those who earn a degree have a better chance of becoming
middle class or better than those who don t, although still not as good of a chance as the ... Show more

In addition, experts on the field argue that the effects of college are powerful enough to boost the
income of adult children from relatively poor families not only well past the income achieved by their
parents but also past the income achieved by many of their peers with more advantaged family
backgrounds who did not obtain equivalent education (Isaacs, Sawhill, Haskins 34). To put it in
another way, obtaining a degree is the best way, perhaps the only way, to possess economic stability.
Now, if we look at it from the country s perspective, education can be part of the solution to the wealth
gap, because the occurrence of poverty in the United States is directly related to educational level. A
college degree is the ticket to the middle class and beyond. Today, obviously, the idea that everyone
should attend to college is indisputable. But there is definitely nothing magical about its price. As
higher education institutions keep on rising its tuitions and fees.
The overwhelming cost for higher educational institutions is causing a huge concern over whether
higher education will be an attainable financial concept to the ordinary student in the upcoming years.
Many Americans now tend to believe that the path to obtaining a degree has turned into distraught
with financial traps. Recent studies done by the U.S. Department of Education show that college
tuition and fees have ballooned 1,120% since 1978. A year of college tuition for

The physician may order a mammogram or ultra sound. Women are recommended to have yearly
mammograms after the age 40, but earlier if breast cancer runs in the family (National Cancer
Institute). A mammogram detects lumps in the breast and is an x ray picture of tissues inside a person
s breast. It may detect a lump before it is even felt by someone. A ultrasound also is a test that can
show details of the breast lump and its sound waves creates pictures showing if the lump is solid,
filled with fluid or a little of both. When it shows a sign of a more solid lump it is greater risk of
cancer (National Cancer Institute). Once a breast lump is detected and shows signs of being cancerous
the lump is then removed or biopsied. Biopsy is a tissue removal which is looking for cancerous cells.
There are several different types of biopsies, but is the true way to tell if these cells in the breast are

surgical biopsy. After the tissue is removed then they can send it to the lab to determine if a person has

malignant. Benign is good meaning no cancer present, but malignant means that there is cancer
present in the tumor. After determining that a person has breast cancer it must then be staged.

Understanding Black Holes
Scientific Understanding of Black Holes Black holes are a place in space where the pull of gravity is
so strong that anything including light is able to escape. Researchers say that the gravity of a black
hole is so strong because matter is pressed into a tiny space. Black holes are sometimes called dying
stars or they result in dying stars. There are many different sizes of black holes, but the three most
common are primordial black holes, stellar, and supermassive. This list goes from smallest to largest.
These size differences makes them so they can form in different ways. Primordial black holes are said
to be formed right after the big bang. Stellar black holes form when a very massive star collapses on
itself. These are also called exploding stars or a supernova. Supermassive black holes are formed at

How the Video Accurately Showed Black Holes In the movie Interstellar there s a movie scene where

The main difference is what it looks like. Scientists say the way the movie describes a black hole and
the events that happen with it, should look more complicated than it actually is. It would have looked
a lot more puzzling (Knapton, 2015). Caltech physicist Kip Thorne told a magazine. In the movie to
really explain the look of a black hole it would have gas wrapped up and around the top and the
bottom of the black hole. The movie was said to enhance the light of the black hole and yet they really

Louisiana Purchase Disadvantages
The Louisiana purchase was a land deal between the United states and France in which the United
States gained 827,000 square miles. The land west of the Mississippi river to the Rocky Mountains
was for fifteen million dollars that took place in 1803 of April thirtieth. The Louisiana purchase
induced many advantages as it did disadvantages for president Thomas Jefferson. Being one of the
biggest land deals in United States History when the Louisiana purchase was being signed by Robert
Livingston and James Monroe it doubled the original size of the United States at the time. The
achievement of the Louisiana region was not a simple business exchange as one may think. It was an
extremely frustrating and distressing procedure that caused President Thomas Jefferson a lot of
despair and agony. The issues that happened and lead up to the purchase of Louisiana purchase can be
broken into three sections: Jefferson s problem, Jefferson s choice, and the results.
Somehow, at the point when the chance to buy the Louisiana Purchase introduced itself, Jefferson
couldn t leave the offer behind. The Louisiana purchase had many pros and cons. Things like
Economy, resources, money, change , expansion and land were few of the many advantages and
disadvantages. The purchase had helped and benefited the United States tremendously. Creating this
land deal meant better was soon to come; especially for Thomas Jefferson by which this was one of
his most important achievements during his

Most Important Piece Of Communication
Important Issues in the Organization
After reviewing the case study, the single most important piece of communication in the collection of
calls, memos and letters is the letter from Sally J. Rinehold of the Multigreen Assets Foundation. The
letter states that a member of the professional staff requested a $21,000 for research when the
Multigreen Assets Foundation already pledged a grant two years ago for capital improvements.
Rinehold mentions a few facts in the letter that cause concern for both the structure of the professional
staffing of the Loquium Institute and where the initial grant money went. The Multigreen Assets

First Order of Business
Due to the fact the president of the Loquium Institute is out of town until Friday, the first act as
development director is setting up a meeting with Charles Davenport, the President of the Board of
Trustees and Julia Smithe a board member and the only acting member of the development committee.
Davenport and Smithe are the only members of the Board of Trustees who are actively engaged in the
Loquium Institute and its mission. Since they are active in the involvement of the organization and
fundraising they will have information regarding how the organization operates and perhaps ideas on
how to best move forward with engaging the other board members to participate more in the
organization. Temple et. al. (2011) states that it is important to have an involved and committed
governing board, prepared to make personally significant commitments of time and fund (pg. 82). It is
vital to having the entire board actively engaged in order to move forward with the capital campaign
the president wants to initiate.
Ethical Issues There are a few potential ethical issues at hand in the case study. One previously
mentioned was the instance of the request for an additional grant from the Multigreen Assets
Foundation of $21,000. Once the development director meets with the President of the Board

Topic: The Black Death
Summary:
The Bubonic Plague, otherwise known as the Black Death, was a contagious disease that had been
spread throughout many countries such as China and Egypt during the early 1340s. During the late
months of 1347, the plague had finally arrived into Europe by using 12 trading ships and their sailors
as hosts. A person with the disease would usually have large, black boils that formed near their
underarm or groin area. These boils would usually cause blood and pus to leak out and be an early
symptom for someone who had the plague. The forming of these boils would usually then lead to
vomiting, fever, and unable to keep in food. All these symptoms would ... Show more content on

Boy am I glad I got to research him though. I always knew him as just an important person in
American literature but I didn t really know any history behind it. I ve read some of Shakespeare s
works in school but they never really interested me because I did not understand a lot of the book. I
always thought he was a crazy playwright who wrote in a tongue that not really anyone but the
teachers understood. By researching about this person, I m able to gain new knowledge that I had not
known before while also gaining information about the book we re going to read. William
Shakespeare has just improved the amount of things I know in my life. I know how life back then was
for someone as famous as Shakespeare. I know that he was just someone who was pretty much normal
until he created his famous writing style. I can kind of relate to Shakespeare because our childhoods
were somewhat similar in that we both grew up in just a middle class family. We weren t really
anything special until we went on to discover who we truly were. Learning about Shakespeare also
helps me understand a little more about The Taming of the Shrew. I know that because this book is a
comedy, he wrote this in the early years of his career. By doing this research on Shakespeare, I was
not only able to gain extra knowledge for myself but also a bit of background for the book we re going
to read.

Jason was a true friend and hero. Life was challenging for him because his childhood life was rough,
he had to get the golden fleece, and ruling as a king. Jason was a leader in Argonautic Expedition in

hardly anything from his mother.
One of the main reasons why Jason s life was complex is that he endured a rough childhood. He was
the son of king Iolcus, Jason was more like his father than his mother. When he was born his uncle
Pelias killed every sibling in his family. His uncle took over as king, and Jason went and lived in the
woods with Centaur Chiron. Which he was raised by Centaur Chiron until adulthood.

Educating Rita By Willy Russell
Educating Rita written in 1980 by Willy Russell, is a play that explores the way in which a working
class Liverpudlian woman, Rita (Susan), follows the change from unhappiness to happiness. The story
is a comedy, which revolves around the growing personal relationship between Rita, and her Open
University Literature tutor, Dr. Frank Byrant. Russell often mocks many parts of society at a time
when the play was set including education, social class and patriarchy.
Rita is used to create comedy within the play, and introduces her to a contrasting character, Frank, to
provide a difficult relationship. Rita is lively and bubbly from a working class background, where she
was not able to achieve the education that she would have liked, See if I d started taking school
seriously I would have been different from my mates, and that s not allowed. Frank, who is from a
middle class background, does not have the energy or enthusiasm for his work or teaching anymore.
This automatically creates conflict with one another, as they have been brought up living within two
very different environments. When Rita has her first lesson, Frank is clearly very unenthusiastic about
having to teach Rita, because she came in so confidently, ready to learn and extremely enthusiastic the
opposite to how Frank was feeling at the time. Apart from their difference in class, Frank and Rita
struggle to communicate to start with. There is use of colloquial, working class Liverpudlian dialect,

The Supreme Court Of India
1. INTRODUCTION
Most social movements in India since the 1970s have actively used the Courts especially the Supreme
Court as a part of their struggles. This has been possible because of the higher Courts activism,
especially under the guidance and action of Public Interest Litigation. Through the instrument of
Public Interest Litigation, the Court liberated itself from traditional constraints in the legal system so
as to reach out to the weaker sections of Indian humanity.
The Supreme Court of India has adopted a forward looking approach since last few years, particularly
having regard to the socio economic conditions prevailing in the country. In fact there are two kinds of
approaches which characterise the functioning of the highest Court in every democracy. Either the
Court adopts an activist approach or resigns itself to passive role. In a country like India, judges adopt
an activist approach to bring about social and economic change and to improve the life conditions of
the people and make basic human rights available to them. The Supreme Court has revolved a new
doctrine of judicial activism with a view of making basic human rights meaningful and effective for
the deprived and exploited sections of humanity.
Judiciary is the third wing of the Government empowered to administer justice to the people of India.
The Courts are protectors of an individual s Fundamental and Legal Rights when they are violated.
But in these days, access to Court is also a difficult task

The irony with this belief is that she is clearly anti slavery, but alludes to women following their

Franz Haydn Accomplishments
The composer that I have chosen to write about is Franz Joseph Haydn. I selected this composer over
all the rest because he is said to be the creator of the fundamental genres of classical music. Franz
Haydn is considered by some as the father of the symphony and the father of the string quartet. He
also influenced and inspired many other composers. For instance, many say Ludwig van Beethoven
was one of his pupils. Beethoven is a fundamental composer (so anyone who teaches him is, as a
result, fundamental himself). And some even go as far as saying that he was responsible for the
success of both Mozart and Beethoven. During the time that he lived (between March 31, 1732 and
May 31, 1809) the main element of music was the counterpoint. He, however,

Flaws And Flaws Of Oedipus
It is fair to say that Oedipus had many flaws that would eventually allow him to go from being a great
king and savior of a city, to being a looked at very shamefully and ruining the city of Thebes. Oedipus
did some heroic things to get into certain positions throughout his life, but would ruin them all with
his cockiness, prowess, and over eccentric pride.
Oedipus did a very heroic feat, which was killing the sphinx outside the city of Thebes. This then
made the Thebians have major respect for him and elect him into being their king. Upon doing this
they looked at him as a respectable man who was very heroic and could take Thebes into the direction
they wanted to be heading. However, the Thebians didn t realize that he had a dark and dreaded past
that would come back to haunt him in the future.
One of Oedipus major flaws was how overconfident he was in himself. It is okay to be confident and
have basic confidence, but Oedipus would never take no for an answer and was overly confident and
cocky. Oedipus confidence led him to never believe that he as the one who was forming and shaping
his destiny to be the way that it was going to be. He saw nothing wrong with disrespecting the gods
and defiling their names. He also saw no problem in not believing Teiresias, the prophet, who sees all
and everything. He mocked Teiresias as well as tried to say he was trying to overthrow him and betray
him. Oedipus also didn t believe anyone and allowed his confidence to blind him also

The Unemployment Rate Of The United States Essay
Unemployment rates were essentially higher in August in 6 states, lower in 3 states, and stable in 41
states and the District of Columbia, the U.S. Authority of Labor Statistics reported today. Ten states
had eminent jobless rate diminishes from a year prior, 5 states had increments, and 35 states and the
District had no noteworthy change. The national unemployment rate stayed at 4.9 percent in August
and was minimal not quite the same as that of August 2015.
Nonfarm finance work expanded in 4 states and the District of Columbia in August 2016, diminished
in 3 states, and was basically unaltered in 43 states. Throughout the year, 35 states included calculable
quantities of nonfarm finance employments, North Dakota and Wyoming lost occupations, and 13
states and the District were basically unaltered.
Territorial Unemployment
In August, two locales had unemployment rates fundamentally not quite the same as the U.S. rate of
4.9 percent: The Midwest, at 4.5 percent, and West, at 5.3 percent. Throughout the month, no area had
a measurably critical unemployment rate change. Noteworthy throughout the year rate diminishes

The Ethics Of The Accounting Profession
Ethics in all forms is concerned with the good and bad, right and wrong in a situation. (Duska) In life
you will be placed in a situation where you have to make a choice. These situations are not always
black and white, in other words they do not have a clear answer. You will not know what your reaction
would be in any given situation until you are there and have to make the decision. This is present in
both our personal and professional lives. However, if you always follow the guidelines set by God and
treat all as you wish to be treated then more than likely you will make a fair and impartial decision
when necessary. The accounting profession is based on the honesty, integrity, and word of those in this
profession. That is truly who they are in the eyes of the public and with this comes great responsibility
to all those involved. We will be evaluating two ethical systems in this paper and deciding which
would be the most appropriate for the accounting profession. The first ethical view that we will
discuss is Deontology. Deontology came from the writings of Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher.
Deontology is defined as a view that is based on what is fair over the consequences of the actions.
Deontologists believe that there are ethical guidelines that are universally applicable to all people. The
actions should be ethical even if the consequences are not favorable and should be based on rational
thought. This view is follows a line of professional

Media Convergence with Regard to Technology and Its...
What is meant by the term media convergence with regard to technology, and how has it affected
everyday life?
When America went through a period of media convergence with regard to technology, we were
essentially combining different types of mass media into one cohesive entity. Forty years ago, the
main forms of mass media used were the TV, radio, and newspapers. Now we have multiple forms of
media, the Internet is broadcasting radio programming, newspaper articles can be found on the
Internet, and commercials that give no other information besides the address of a website. With the
improvements of an average cell phone, we have been given the gift of the smartphone. With one
smartphone in hand, we are able to read newspaper articles, watch live streaming TV or movies, take
pictures or movies, and listen to broadcasted radio. Smartphones can essentially remove the need for

Theme Of Country Lovers
A great part of South Africa s history has been influenced by apartheid, which was where the black
population was oppressed, and the South African society was very influenced by race segregation. The
black population hardly had any freedom and their daily life was influenced discrimination. This
tragic part of South Africa s history is what the author Nadine Gordimer is trying to portray in her
short story Country Lovers (1982). Country Lovers deals with harsh and strong themes, which are
shown through the short story s main characters. The storyline and structure of the short story are built

Thebedi and her family work at the farm, where Paulus lives with his prosperous family. As kids, the
story describes them playing together at the farm, but Paulus leaves the farm to go to boarding school.
This was not an unusual situation, most white South African children were during this period of time
send to boarding school to get an acceptable education. After the white children went to boarding
school, they would usually not keep having relations with the black children. Paulus and Thebedi kept
having a romantic relationship, even though they both were very aware of how the society would view
an interracial relationship. One can interpret that as the reason why they are keeping their relationship
a secret. As the story develops and they get older it s very clear that Paulus have the upper hand in the
relationship. This is interpreted because it s always Paulus deciding when and where they will see
each other again. His power over Thebedi is also seen, when Thebedi comes to his house and isn t

His superior position in the relationship is a way for Gordimer to demonstrate her criticism towards

Modern Theatre Vs Greek Theatre
A Synopsis and comparison of Ancient Greek theater to present times Greece was the first culture to
significantly raise the standards not only for philosophical ideals, mathematical methods astronomical
allegories, architectural influence, medical techniques, and much more, but also ultimately, the most
substantial contribution they charted was theater pioneering. What was considered theatre back in
ancient times is completely unrecognizable to what we are used to theater nowadays.
Back in the Hellenistic period, 500 to 200 B.C., theatre served a completely different purpose than it
does today; it solely dealt with honoring their Dodekatheon gods rather than entertaining the crowd
and provoking thought. Arguably the theatre was the most important part of the Athenian religious and
social culture where everyone who worked extremely hard throughout the year would look forward to
the month that was dedicated to their most beloved god, Dionysus. Imagine living in 550 B.C.,
celebrating life for an entire month without having any obligations towards anyone. Dionysus was the
Greek god of grape harvest, and wine, who served as a symbol of pleasure and ecstasy within Greek
culture (Wickham 31). The logic behind that is that every one of the twelve gods would be celebrated
for a month. One might ask, how did they keep track of it? Valid question, but it really stems from the
extremely sophisticated technology and mathematics. One of the instruments they used was the

  • 2. The Theme of Escape in The Glass Menagerie Essay The Theme of Escape in The Glass Menagerie In The Glass Menagerie, Tennessee Williams uses the theme of escape to help drive the play forward. None of the characters are capable of living in the real world. Laura, Amanda, Tom and Jim use various methods to escape the brutalities of life. Laura retreats into a world of glass animals and old records. Amanda is obsessed with living in her past. Tom escapes into his world of poetry writing and movies. Jim also reverts to his past and remembers the days when he was a high school hero. Mr. Wingfield is referred to often throughout the play. He is the ultimate symbol of escape. This is because he has managed to remove himself from the desperate situation that the rest of the family is still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is unable to cope with reality and she escapes back into her fantasy world of old records and glass figurines. Amanda is obsessed with her past, and uses it to escape reality, as she constantly reminds Tom and Laura of the time she received seventeen gentlemen callers. The reader cannot even be sure that this actually happened. However, it is clear despite its possible falseness, Amanda has come to believe it. She refuses to acknowledge that her daughter is crippled and refers to her handicap as quot;a little defect hardly noticeable quot; (Williams 1648). Only for brief moments does she ever admit that her daughter is quot;crippled quot; and then resorts back to denial. Amanda doesn t perceive anything realistically. She believes that this gentleman caller, Jim is going to be the man to rescue Laura and she hasn t even met him yet. When Jim arrives, Amanda is dressed in a quot;girlish frock quot; she wore on the day that she met their father and she regresses to the childish, giddy days of entertaining gentleman callers. Amanda uses her past as a means to escape the reality she does not want to face. Tom escapes reality in many different ways. The first and most obvious is the fire escape that leads him away from his unhappy home. He also escapes into his world of poetry writing and movies. The more Amanda nags, the more Tom seems to need his movie escapes. They take him to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Indentured Servants During The Colonial Era Labor in colonial America was scarce. Explain the development of using indentured servants for labor in the colonies. Below are some of the items you may include: Indentured servants? beginning and decline Changes, problems, and issues with indentured servant labor Unintended consequences of using indentured servants During the colonial era, was it better to be an indentured servant, or a slave? In current day, one could argue that both are preposterous notions, however for the time, was either beneficial for anyone? Looking back on how to country developed following this time, through the years of slavery in the civil war, it may look like the only people to benefit from slavery or having an indentured servant, is the owner. Despite how either has looked throughout many of the eras of this country, being an indentured servant had very good potential for benefiting the servant. One may ask, how could anyone benefit from being a servant? Even though this may seem like a very logical question, to those involved in this life style, it all made sense. Let?s take a look at it from their point of view. When early settlers were attempting to colonize here in the new land, the first successful colony wasn?t actually established by the English government. In fact, it had been the successful venture of a privately owned business, The Virginia Company of London. This company was actually comprised of investors with seemingly good intentions. Their end goal was to extend ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Pros And Cons Of Agency Theory Agency theory is concerned with the agency relationships. The two parties have an agency relationship when they cooperate and engage in association wherein one party the principal delegates decisions and /or work to another an agent to act on its behalf (Tan Lee, 2015). The important assumptions underlying agency theory is that potential goal conflicts exists between principals and agents; each party acts in its own self interest; information asymmetry frequently exists between principals and agents; agents are more risk averse than the principal; and efficiency is the effectiveness criterion (Miller Sardais, 2011; Kingston Haijie, 2014). Two potential problems stemming from this assumption may arise in agency relationships: an agency problem and a risk sharing problem. An agency problem appears when agents goal differs from the principals and it is difficult or expensive to verify whether agents have appropriately performed the delegated work. A risk sharing problem arises when agents have different attitudes towards risk that cause disagreements about actions to be taken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is achieved through improved public service delivery and more informed policy design. In many countries, especially developing ones, the government fails to deliver key essential services to its citizens due to problems such as: misallocation of resources, leakages or corruption, weak incentives or a lack of articulated demand (William, 2002). Similarly, governments often formulate policies in a discretionary and non transparent manner that goes against the interests and actual priorities of the poor, these problems are perpetuated because the three key groups of actors in the public policy and service delivery chain policy makers, service providers and citizens have different (sometimes conflicting) goals and incentives, compounded by information asymmetries and lack of communication (William, ... • 5. Why Was Athens Important To Greek Theatre Before the concept of the television, there was the play. Theatre, despite not being as watched as movies and television today, is just as important if not more. Without theatre, we wouldn t have acting or stories, and a world without stories would be very bland. You can t have a story without characters and setting, and that s what theatre did. Now, theatre wasn t really popular until one part in history, and that was in the time of Athens, Greece. Why was Athens so important in theatre and plays, you may ask? The purpose is for students to understand the elements and principles of visual arts, which are value, contrast and balance. Linking skills, knowledge, and context This is a first year class, so many students are unfamiliar with terms, such as value, contrast, space, and balance, in terms of art. The students are familiar with the words, but are unfamiliar with how it pertains to art. New definitions and techniques are introduced in this lesson. Students will continue to use these new vocabulary terms in future lessons. In this project students are required to make a total positive space image. To complete this, students are to use line and shape in their design. The previous projects and lessons in this course focused on the use of line and shape, so this project reinforces those terms and techniques so students will use them in future projects. The last aspect of this assignment is for students to see how the use of space makes interesting designs. I show the students images of logos and symbols that effectively use positive and negative space. With this, students can relate to the images and see how these techniques are still being used ... Getting out of the house, without a sound, was the tricky part. If I timed it just right, I could use the car s engine to my advantage and cover the creak from the door. Once I was outside, I was in the clear. I scampered over to the XL white Suburban and gingerly climbed into the passenger seat. My mom sat inside, listening to soft jazz, decompressing from a long day s work as a nurse in the ICU. As with most nights, she feigned annoyance before excitedly walking me through the events at the hospital. Some nights were filled with triumphant saves, others drowned in an untimely loss. The stories varied, yet a central idea remained: take care of the person instead of the patient. In my youth, her stories registered at face value. A number of weeks passed, allowing the ache to progress to a stabbing pain. My family grew concerned with my discomfort, culminating in a visit to an otolaryngologist. Peter Singer Equality In All Animals Are Equal, Peter Singer argues that any being with sentience should be granted equal moral consideration on the basis of the concept of equality and the principle of equal consideration of interests. In this paper, I will reconstruct Singer s argument and explain the premises on how he came to this conclusion. To begin with, Singer defines sentience as the capacity to suffer or experience enjoyment or happiness (Singer 53). Singer states that if a being is not capable of suffering, or of experiencing enjoyment or happiness, there is nothing to be taken into account... This is why the limit of sentience... is the only defensible boundary of concern for the interests of other (Singer 50). Firstly, Singer claims that we should understand the concept of equality as a reason for accepting the conclusion of his argument. What he means by this is that the concept of equality is a moral ideal and not a simple assertion of fact (Singer 52). Children born into high income families have about twice as much chance of becoming middle class or better in their adult years as those born into the lower classes. To put it in another way, obtaining a degree is the best way, perhaps the only way, to possess economic stability. • 27. The Supreme Court Of India 1. INTRODUCTION Most social movements in India since the 1970s have actively used the Courts especially the Supreme Court as a part of their struggles. This has been possible because of the higher Courts activism, especially under the guidance and action of Public Interest Litigation. Through the instrument of Public Interest Litigation, the Court liberated itself from traditional constraints in the legal system so as to reach out to the weaker sections of Indian humanity. The Supreme Court of India has adopted a forward looking approach since last few years, particularly having regard to the socio economic conditions prevailing in the country. In fact there are two kinds of approaches which characterise the functioning of the highest Court in every democracy. Either the Court adopts an activist approach or resigns itself to passive role. In a country like India, judges adopt an activist approach to bring about social and economic change and to improve the life conditions of the people and make basic human rights available to them. The Supreme Court has revolved a new doctrine of judicial activism with a view of making basic human rights meaningful and effective for the deprived and exploited sections of humanity. Judiciary is the third wing of the Government empowered to administer justice to the people of India. The Courts are protectors of an individual s Fundamental and Legal Rights when they are violated. But in these days, access to Court is also a difficult task ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The imagery is very different, but all of the poems and poets seem to be saying time is important in life. Although she deliberately states that she will not judge his actions one way or the other, this is the only play she vocally states that judgment is needed, thus her implication of his disagreeable actions. The irony with this belief is that she is clearly anti slavery, but alludes to women following their husbands rather than having a say in important decisions. For instance, when Tuscan informs Oroonoko that his wife and children may not be fit to escape through the mountains and woods Oroonoko says, if there were a woman among them so degenerate from love and virtue to choose slavery before the pursuit of her husband, and with the hazard of her life to share with him in his fortunes, that such a one out to be abandoned (2217). This is interesting because Behn has had personal experience with being oppressed as a result of her gender, yet in this story she condemns slavery while the hero degrades women. 4. • 29. Franz Haydn Accomplishments The composer that I have chosen to write about is Franz Joseph Haydn. I selected this composer over all the rest because he is said to be the creator of the fundamental genres of classical music. Franz Haydn is considered by some as the father of the symphony and the father of the string quartet. He also influenced and inspired many other composers. For instance, many say Ludwig van Beethoven was one of his pupils. Beethoven is a fundamental composer (so anyone who teaches him is, as a result, fundamental himself). And some even go as far as saying that he was responsible for the success of both Mozart and Beethoven. During the time that he lived (between March 31, 1732 and May 31, 1809) the main element of music was the counterpoint. He, however, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Flaws And Flaws Of Oedipus It is fair to say that Oedipus had many flaws that would eventually allow him to go from being a great king and savior of a city, to being a looked at very shamefully and ruining the city of Thebes. Oedipus did some heroic things to get into certain positions throughout his life, but would ruin them all with his cockiness, prowess, and over eccentric pride. Oedipus did a very heroic feat, which was killing the sphinx outside the city of Thebes. This then made the Thebians have major respect for him and elect him into being their king. Upon doing this they looked at him as a respectable man who was very heroic and could take Thebes into the direction they wanted to be heading. However, the Thebians didn t realize that he had a dark and dreaded past that would come back to haunt him in the future. One of Oedipus major flaws was how overconfident he was in himself. It is okay to be confident and have basic confidence, but Oedipus would never take no for an answer and was overly confident and cocky. Oedipus confidence led him to never believe that he as the one who was forming and shaping his destiny to be the way that it was going to be. He saw nothing wrong with disrespecting the gods and defiling their names. He also saw no problem in not believing Teiresias, the prophet, who sees all and everything. He mocked Teiresias as well as tried to say he was trying to overthrow him and betray him. Oedipus also didn t believe anyone and allowed his confidence to blind him also ... (Duska) In life you will be placed in a situation where you have to make a choice. These situations are not always black and white, in other words they do not have a clear answer. You will not know what your reaction would be in any given situation until you are there and have to make the decision. This is present in both our personal and professional lives. However, if you always follow the guidelines set by God and treat all as you wish to be treated then more than likely you will make a fair and impartial decision when necessary. The accounting profession is based on the honesty, integrity, and word of those in this profession. That is truly who they are in the eyes of the public and with this comes great responsibility to all those involved. We will be evaluating two ethical systems in this paper and deciding which would be the most appropriate for the accounting profession. The first ethical view that we will discuss is Deontology. Deontology came from the writings of Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher. Deontology is defined as a view that is based on what is fair over the consequences of the actions. Deontologists believe that there are ethical guidelines that are universally applicable to all people. The actions should be ethical even if the consequences are not favorable and should be based on rational thought. This view is follows a line of professional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When America went through a period of media convergence with regard to technology, we were essentially combining different types of mass media into one cohesive entity. After the white children went to boarding school, they would usually not keep having relations with the black children. Paulus and Thebedi kept having a romantic relationship, even though they both were very aware of how the society would view an interracial relationship. One can interpret that as the reason why they are keeping their relationship a secret. As the story develops and they get older it s very clear that Paulus have the upper hand in the relationship. Modern Theatre Vs Greek Theatre A Synopsis and comparison of Ancient Greek theater to present times Greece was the first culture to significantly raise the standards not only for philosophical ideals, mathematical methods astronomical allegories, architectural influence, medical techniques, and much more, but also ultimately, the most substantial contribution they charted was theater pioneering. What was considered theatre back in ancient times is completely unrecognizable to what we are used to theater nowadays. Back in the Hellenistic period, 500 to 200 B.C., theatre served a completely different purpose than it does today; it solely dealt with honoring their Dodekatheon gods rather than entertaining the crowd and provoking thought. Arguably the theatre was the most important part of the Athenian religious and social culture where everyone who worked extremely hard throughout the year would look forward to the month that was dedicated to their most beloved god, Dionysus. Imagine living in 550 B.C., celebrating life for an entire month without having any obligations towards anyone. Dionysus was the Greek god of grape harvest, and wine, who served as a symbol of pleasure and ecstasy within Greek culture (Wickham 31). The logic behind that is that every one of the twelve gods would be celebrated for a month. One might ask, how did they keep track of it?
