The Influence Of Learners First Language
The influence of learners first language (L1) plays a significant role in learning a second
language (L2). In general, numerous studies have been investigating L1 transfer. In specific, the
influence of Arabic, more specifically Saudi Arabic, in learning English has been examined to
demonstrate the native language transfer in L2 learning (Binturki, 2008; Grami and
Alzughaibi, 2012; among others). Based on the influence of L1 and universal markedness
(things that are present in a small number of languages), Eckman (1977) proposes the
Markedness Differential Hypothesis (MDH). It helps predicting errors that L2 learners will
have based on a comparison between L1 and L2 and universal markedness. The aim of the
present study is to examine to what extent the MDH can account for mispronunciation of word
final voiced stops by Saudi Arabian learners of English. The results of this study contradict the
MDH. Despite the fact that both Saudi Arabic and English have voiced stops word finally, the
Saudi Arabian learners did not produce the voiced stops in coda positions correctly. The subjects
tended mostly to either substitute or devoiced final voiced stops. This paper will start with a
brief discretion of the word final voiced stops (/b d g/) in Saudi Arabic and English. Then, an
explanation about the MDH is involved followed by the section of data source and analysis, and
finally conclusion. Review of Literature English and Arabic Stops In this section, I present a brief

The Role Of The Nuclear Family During The Industrial...
During the industrial revolution, the nuclear family was considered the norm, consisting of a
mother and father living together with two biologically related children. Traditionally, the wife
stayed home as the homemaker and looking after the children without pay. While the husband earns
the money through working at a job away from the home. Furze (2015 p. 174) states that in the
1940s and 1950s, many sociologists and the general communities of Western countries such as
Australia and New Zealand considered the traditional nuclear familythe most widespread and ideal
family form. Additionally, backing this statement up Fletcher (2017) claims that from a
functionalist perspective the nuclear familyis ideally suited to meet the necessities

Minority Report Response
Minority Report The movie Minority Report was a book before the movie. The movie is where
police utilize a psychic technology to arrest and convict murderers before they commit their
crime. Tom Cruise is head of the precrime unit and was accused of killing someone he hasn t
even meat. In 50 years it think technology is going to take over most of the stuff. I think the
teachers will be using a lot more technology with teaching kids. I also think kids will start using
technology at a young age than we all did because there already starting to do that. Cell phones
will for sure be more advanced than they already our hopefully. The technology presented in
minority report represents what the united states will likely experience in 50 years. There are types
of technology in Minority Report that our not actually in our life now. One of the technology that is

We will have more advanced technology so a lot of stuff will be easier and faster. So what i m
thinking is that means that would give people more free time or make people get more done.
Because if you have a job that has good technology like that you will get a lot more done and do
it better. The stuff you do on your free time will probably be more fun also if it involves
technology. We are probably going to be able to get places faster also. The technology presented
in minority report represents what the united states will likely experience in 50 years. Some of
the little stuff already happened like the military uses something like the the robot insects. The
multi touch interfaces similar to andertons have been out out by Microsoft. Retina scanners
already exited by the time the film appeared in theaters. Xerox has been trying to develop

The Importance Of Racial Inequality
Social inequality is a recurring problem throughout, not only the country, but the world. There are
all kinds of inequalities throughout the world, and without any person or thing creating
awarenesses this will induce more pandemonium. With that being said, in order to terminate
racial inequality, people that are capable of bringing awareness to it need to start producing
familiarity locally because it will suddenly erupt onto a more global impact. When analyzing
how starting to bring awareness to social inequities and raise awareness at a local level can turn
global and change the world, one who explores the specifics of racial discrimination can aware
others about the dangers and results of this certain inequality. Politics, professional athletes
protesting, and media discrimination are ways people have been making local awareness a global
reality. In the end, with more and more awareness, more and more people will help end inequalities
throughout the world. To begin, awareness of global issues within politics happen all of the time;
therefore, bringing awareness to racial inequality within politics will spread globally and change the
world. Racial discrimination occurring inside of the American government is between Donald
Trump and the Mexican culture. The most emphasized facts Trump stated throughout his campaign
and carried through his presidency is to build a wall on the border of the United States and Mexico,
keeping all illegal immigrants out of the country.

Persuasive Essay On Illegal Immigration
The topic of illegal immigration and how best to handle it has always been a controversial topic
in the U.S. The Trump administration is trying to address it by building a wall all the way along
the border of U.S. and Mexico. Trump has always wanted to build a wall between the U.S. and
Mexico because he sais that it is needed and will stop illegal immigrationinto the U.S. However the
U.S. Mexicoborder wall that Trump is proposing will not only be ineffective but will also be a
huge waste of money and an act of ignorance to the real issues and solutions. One obvious reason
for why a border wall is a bad idea is that it will be insanely expensive for numerous reasons.
Trump makes it sound like building a border wall will be as easy as saying we are going to do it
and then poof, it will be magically done, but that is not the case. Current estimates of the U.S.
Mexico border wall are that it will cost up to $66.9 billion in taxpayer money which is easier
said than done (Nazario). Not to mention the immense cost of hiring people to patrol the wall. In
the end the border wall will cost Americans billions of dollars that they don t have and waste it on
something that amounts to nothing more than America flexing its muscles. People also seem to
think that the government is allowed to just build a wall along the border but this is not true. To
begin with most of the border is not even owned by the federal government, more than 2/3rds is
owned by private individuals and Native

Essay On Progressive Era
The Progressive Era The Progressive era was an age in time which people tried to solve Gilded
Age problems through individual and group action. Progress in the word progressive means
towards freedom and justice. Progressives were people who believed that the problems society
faced (poverty, violence, greed, racism, class warfare) could best be addressed by providing good
education, a safe environment, and an efficient workplace. Progressives were mostly concerned
with the social problems that revolved around industrial capitalists society. Companies and later
corporations had a problem that had been around at least since the 1880s. They needed to keep
cost down and profits high. In a competitive market, the best way to do this is to keep... Show more

It described the conditions of the meat packing factories and the treatment of the workers inside
those factories. When the book was published, journalists began to expose this wrongdoing. The
use of photography came into action for documentation. Louis Hines photographed child labor in
factories and mines bringing Americans face to face with more than 2 million under the age of
15 working for wages. The Jungle lead to the Pure Food Act, the Drug Act, and the Meat

Media And Corruption
Stop reading, the story ends. You go back to your life and believe whatever you want to believe.
Continue reading, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. This is
no joke, this is no movie, this is real life and you re in it. The American media system is innately
corrupt and built on the vain purposes of those who fuel it. The current mediaand journalism
deceives its viewers and manipulates them via twisting and warping topics on a historically
monumental scale causing a wide range of negative effects. The negative influences the media
has on young men and women corrodes their self image and deforms it. While attacking the
psyche of children it also promotes racism, xenophobia, and general fear in people from the
suburban level to the state level. This idea of promoting fear mongering leads to the separation of
people and country. In essence, journalism and the media as a whole have become a very
successful pro prejudice system where anything and everything is negative. In no way is it
ethically right to condone or support any media source, not for some freedom of information cause
or political agenda. The act of condoning the media and journalism admits to the legitimacy of said
media and in turn, condones such behavior. Admitting the media is a legitimate system is also
admitting: Kim Kardashian having a baby is news.
The American media system negatively affects the self image of young boys and girls in America

Moving Beyond A Standard Education Plan For Integrating...
Moving beyond a standard education plan for integrating research results into existing curricula,
this proposal emphasizes a proactive effort to offer next generation engineers an interdisciplinary
training experience by using the proposed research of low power intelligent sensors. This education
plan is targeting high schoolstudents and middle schoolteachers, as well as students from minority
groups. Some planned activities have been explored by the PI with very positive feedbacks and
evaluations.
The background is based on the premise that future academic and industrial projects will require
engineers to adopt a system level perspective and work with interdisciplinary teams [129].
Accordingly, current engineering students are expected to have system design experiences, and the
ability to prototype demonstration systems, and also be able to communicate with engineers
working in other areas, as well as identify potential market demand based on available technologies
[130]. To date, this type of experience has not been offered sufficiently in classroom lectures and
laboratory sessions [131]. Presently, our pedagogical practices tend to focus on conveying technical
knowledge rather than giving students experience in system development [132]. The proposed
research is uniquely cross disciplinary in that it includes both fundamental circuit design and signal
processing techniques, and this cross disciplinary approach can be adopted in various ap plications.

Weaknesss And Strengths Of A Department Store
Nowadays, with people busy with work, study and family, they tend to save time in anyways as
they could. One way that people can save time when go shopping is that they will go shopping at
big departments stores. Department stores offer a broad selection of products from apparel to
furniture under the same roof. As a result, people can find anything they need without driving
around different stores to find it. Among the department stores, Macy s and Dillard s are well
known among everyone. Both of them have established their brandfor a long time, gain a lot of trust
and loyalty with their customers. It may seem that both companies are the same; however, they
have different strengths and weakness of them self.
Dillard s is a department store founded in 1938 by William T. Dillard. It also knows as one of the
nation s largest fashion retailers. Currently, it has about 300 stores across twenty nine states of
the US (www.careers.dillards.com). The store offers a broad selection such as cosmetic,
compelling apparel and home selection from different brands. This is the reason why they
managed to capture a lot of customer despite their genders or ages. From casual to formal clothes
for men, women to kids, or variety selection of home selection from outdoor to indoor, Dillard s
has it all for their customers. Even though they don t have stores in every state, Dillard s still has

Strength In What Friends Character Analysis
Patriotism is easy to understand in America. It means looking out for yourself by looking out for
your country (Calvin Coolidge). Looking out for your country can be as simple as helping out
another individual who is going through a difficult time. Some Americans understand this concept
better than others. The Americans in the book Strength in What Remains by Tracy Kidder,
understand this especially well as they help the main character, Deo, heal. They provide a shelter
and a way back to Burundi, the country of his nightmares. Oskar Schell from the novel Extremely
Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer also finds benevolent Americans who are
willing to help him connect with his dead father. In 21st century America, two significant... Show

the protagonists to follow the path that ultimately leads to their healing. In Strength in what

to heal. In Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close Oskar s dad dies in 9/11, and he s devastated.
He slowly begins the healing process by searching for a lock that is related to his dad. Along the
way he meets a lot of generous people who help him realize that we all have struggles and the
best way to deal with difficult struggles is to talk to the people with whom you are closest.. He

Differences Of Buddhism And Jainism
Different civilizations have different interpretations of how the world came into existence and these
interpretations normally make up the multitude of religions we have. While most religions share
the same values, such as humility, gratitude, truthfulness, and peacemaking, they do not all agree
with the theological part of religion, such as the creation. There are many different philosophies for
this difference, but it is important to know some of the differences to understand a civilization s
culture. Historical art pieces give a glance of early civilizations beliefs. Asia, including South,
Southeast Asia, and East Asia contained many of the same religions. In Southeast Asia and Japan,
Jainism, Hinduism, and Buddhismwere the most common religious affiliations during the Vedic
and Maurya periods. Jainism and Buddhism have similar beliefs about how the world was
created. They both don t believe in a creation story or a Christian God like figure. There is
simply no beginning of the world in their minds. Jainism doesn t believe in Gods; therefore, there
isn t anyone responsible for creation. They have a leader named Vardhamana. They find it more
realistic to say that the world has always existed and has undergone changes as time progresses.
However, these changes are due to nature itself and no higher being (Volatti). Buddhism has similar
thoughts about the origin of the world; however Buddhism does believe in Buddha as a God like
figure. Bertrand Russell explains

Dexmedetomidine In Psychology
Evidences from animal models
It has been reported that dexmedetomidine has neuroprotective effects in animals with various
insults to the brain. Dexmedetomidine attenuates central sympathetic activity and decreases
anesthetic requirements. Hoffman et al. determined the effects of dexmedetomidine on
neurological and histopathological outcome after incomplete cerebral ischemia in rats about 25
years ago [1]. The results show that dexmedetomidine given during brain ischemia improved
neurological and histopathological outcome after incomplete ischemia in rats anesthetized with
fentanyl and nitrous oxide. This effect was reversed by atipamezole, indicating that the effect is
mediated by О±2 adrenergic receptors. Improvement with dexmedetomidine was ... Show more

cerebral arteries. Animals received dexmedetomidine immediately or 2 h after SAH. They were

increased blood brain barrier permeability. These detrimental effects were reduced by
dexmedetomidine post treatment. However, the neuroprotective effects of dexmedetomidine was
abolished by inhibition of extracellular signal regulated kinase (ERK) activation. The conclusion in
this study is that dexmedetomidine post treatment induces neuroprotection to reduce SAH induced
brain injury. This effect may be mediated by activating

Effective Communication And Interpersonal Communication
Within this piece of writing I am going to go explain how effective communication and
interpersonal interaction is crucial within health and social care, I will also discuss theories of
communication and how they are effective within the health and social sector.
Communication
What is communication? Communication Is when two or more people exchange or express
information, thoughts, feelings etc. by using sounds, signs, or behaviors.
Why do people communicate?
People communicate to find out how people are feeling, so if there are any problems they can
help them out and take them to the doctors if needed, in some cases people communication just to
have a catch up with a friend. A good example of this within health and social would be if a person
that spoke a different language needed to go to the toilet you would have to communicate by using
the right translation book to understand what they are saying. There are many different types to
communicate which are; one to one, formal, and informal, between colleagues, with other
professionals, between professionals and service users, multi agency, multi professional working I
am now going to go into some detail about these different types to communicate to each other
within a social workers industry, I will be giving examples throughout.
Interpersonal
What is Interpersonal communication?
Interpersonal communication is skills and techniques that people use in order to communicate and
maintain positive relationships, a good

Diarrhea In Neonatal
Neonatal calf diarrhea remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality in young calves that
causes substantial economic losses (Constable, 2004). Diarrhea in neonatal calves is a syndrome of
great etiological complexity, in addition to the influence of various environmental, managemental,
nutritional and physiological factors, numerous infectious agents are capable of causing neonatal
calf diarrhea (Schumann et al., 1990). Multiple enteric pathogens have been recovered from
diarrheic calves, their relative prevalence varies geographically but Escherichia coli, Rotavirus, and
Coronavirus, C. perfringens, Salmonella spp. and Cryptosporidium spp. are recognized as the most
common infectious agents in most areas (Garcia et al., 2000; Snodgrass et al., 1986).... Show more

These studies indicate that both healthy and diarrheic calves harbor STEC in their intestine (Blanco
et al., 1997; Roopnarine et al., 2007) and shed the bacteria in great quantities for several months
(Cray and Moon, 1995; Widiasih et al., 2004). Shiga toxin producing E. coli (STEC) are
characterized by their ability to produce two types of shiga toxins virulence factors: shiga toxin 1
(encoded by the stx1 gene), shiga toxin 2(encoded by the stx2 gene). However, STEC isolates
frequently have associated two virulence factors; intimin (encoded by the eaeA gene) and
enterohaemolysins ( encoded by the hlyA) (Dean Nystrom et al., 1997; Kang et al., 2004). Intimin
is responsible for intimate attachment of STEC to intestinal cells, causing formation of the
characteristic attaching and effacing (A/E) lesions (Bolton, 2011). Although the role of
enterohemolysin in an intestinal disease is unclear, but it has been suggested that
enterohaemolysins may enhance the effects of shiga toxins (Caprioli et al., 2005; Holland et al.,

Diffusion And Osmosis Of Potato Cores
Diffusion and Osmosis in Potato Cores By Brittany Pangilinan Abstract Van t Hoff s Law
suggests that the osmotic potential of a cell is proportional to the concentration of solute particles
in a solution. The purpose of this experiment was to determine if there are any differences
between the osmolalities, the no weight changes of osmolalities, and the water potentials of potato
cores in different solutions of different solutes. The percent weight change of the potato cores was
calculated through a change in weight method. The potato core s weight was measured before and
after they were put into different concentrations of a solute for 1.5 hours. In our experiment, there
were no significant differences from the osmotic potentials of our results and the osmotic
potentials of other scientists work. Ending with chi square values of 2.17 and 2.71, and p values
of 0.256 and 0.337, concluding that there is no difference in water potentials of potato cores in
different solutions of different solutes at varying concentrations. Introduction Water potential is the
measure of potential energy in water, or the difference in potential energy between a water sample
and pure water. According to Kosinski (2015), white potatoes are an experimentally favorite
subject for the determination of water potential in plant tissue. In our lab we use a procedure
called change in weight method, which was published by Meyer and Anderson in 1935. Where we

The narrator in this story is a 1. Person narrator and the story is therefore told from the narrator s
point of view. An example of the first person narrative is already in the opening line: Yes I m

right into the story without telling when or where we are. It informs us that the narrator is from
New York, and indicates that she isn t there at the moment. The setting of this dialogue is probably

Another pattern in the family s behavior is all the moving. The great grandparents moved to NY
from Great Britain. Their son and daughter in law moves out of NYC and the narrator s parents
had a baby in a hospital in New York and raised it on the Upper West Side. Then they moved out of
the city, and later the narrator moves to NY.
Througout the story we hear about this elegant lifestyle with a state room and a carriage, tea

Therefore I think this story is mainly about concepts of time, and about the evolution of a family
and a city. We start off with this traditional, wealthy, British family who is welcomed to the new

gentlemen s outfitter and there are fruit sellers and dairymaids in the streets every morning. They

Essay about The Opening Sequence of Sleepy Hollow
The Opening Sequence of Sleepy Hollow
The very first thing the audience sees when watching this film is a thick red liquid dripping onto
a parchment. Because the audience expects the film to be a horror film, they automatically think
the liquid is blood. Seeing this image makes the audience assume someone has been murdered or
at least injured. This one picture spurs questions in a person s mind like, who does the blood
belong to? and Has someone been killed? The audience will want these questions answered, so they
will continue to watch. A little later, the audience sees that the dripping blood is nothing more than
sealing wax dripping onto a page. This surprises them because they did not ... Show more content

The actual parchment that the wax is dripping onto is someone s Last Will and Testament. This
instantly tells the viewer that someone has died, or perhaps is about to die since the same person
that signed the document as a witness, signs it as the man
that was supposed to have written the will. There is a huge close up of the will with the camera
sweeping down from the top of the page to the middle. As the camera moves down, so do the
viewers eyes as they read what is written on the page. There is a sort of sweeping sound effect
mimicking the camera s movement. After the will has been signed, it goes back to the dripping
sealing wax and then a seal is pressed down into it. There is, again, a close up of the seal being
used and the sound effect is repeated. Since these sound effects would not occur in real life, they
emphasis to the audience that the particular event they are heard with must be very important.

Historical and Current Roles of Families and Parents Essay
Historical and Current Roles of Families and Parents
The central theme of this essay is empowerment and the roles that parents, schools and
professionals take on in the quest for the best educational decisions for those children with
disabilities and those children that are gifted and talented. It is important to understand the
historical development of family professional relationships to fully comprehend the significance
how far we ve come and how far we still need to go. In Chapter One, the authors discuss the eight
major roles that families and parents have experienced over time. These roles range from the
eugenics movement (1880 1930) which pointed to the parents as the sole cause of a child s

Chapter 2
SCHOOLS AS SYSTEMS: THE CONTEXT FOR FAMILY PROFESSIONAL
COLLABORATION
Chapter two describes the general education reform movement that has resulted in enhanced
curriculum for all students. There has been a separate reform movement in special education that
has also resulted in restructuring student placement and service delivery systems for these students.
Most recently, the two reform movements are beginning to converge. The general education reform
was started when a national commission report, A Nation at Risk, recommended educational
improvements because U.S. students did not compare favorably in testing results with their
counterparts in Japan and Germany. This has resulted in local school districts taking more direct
responsibility for decision making that would affect all students and has included a stronger parent
role in advocating for change. Along with this type of school reform, there has been a focus on
schools providing comprehensive services for students and families that face multiple hurdles so
that families can have their needs met for social, mental and public health services and coordinated
in a single point of entry the school. The special education reform movement established a free,

1. What is the company s management structure?
The company is divided into four operating divisions (Glasseal, Hermetic Seal, Hermetite and
Sealtron) , each of which is run completely independent by a general manager. These managers are
responsible for the whole business operated in their division except for the control function, which
is run by the division controllers who report directly to Chris Bateman, the CFO. The reason why
control is separated from everything else is to ensure that there is autonomy and objectivity on the
controller s judgments: if they were reporting to the division managers and earning bonuses on the
same basis than them, they would have an incentive to window dress the accounts and report a
better situation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By contrast, the new budget system is based on a minimum performance standard (MPS
philosophy) which has to be reached in order to start earning extra rewards, trying at the same time
to ensure that these standards are realistically set by the division managers making them definitely
achievable. Then, above this first and sure performance standard, managers have to set targets that
represent ordinary performance levels with a 50% probability of achievement.
This way, it can be possible to distinguish between different levels of performance (standards),
which had associated different extra compensations if achieved.
Bonuses were also allocated in a different way: in the old system, workers included in the bonus
plan were assigned a bonus potential according to which additional rewards were paid depending
on profit before taxes (PBT) and personal performance. Therefore, bonus were assigned on the
basis of two kinds of measures: an objective measure (no bonus were paid if the PBT was below
the 60%) and a subjective judgment (performance was evaluated by the top management in the basis
of target accomplishment). By contrast, in the new system the incentive compensation plan was
different depending on the difficulty of the standards. Additionally, a bonus pool was created for
each division composed by a 20% of the amount that the division s

Hard skills Hard skills are what you need to train in to be good at. This is because they take
practice and it can be studying a subject to be literate in it. You need to be able to show
dedication and determination to carry on and achieve. The first hard skill is being able to read
as you had to practice at it and improve overtime. Such as at school you were taught it. This is
important as if you cannot read then how will you read instructions given by co workers which
could lead to a lack of communication and as a result of this your team could fail. The second
hard skill is your job, if this is working in IT this could be in coding programs. This is a hard skill
as you would have needed to learn this in the process. Last of all there is your school subjects

Brave New World was published in 1932. Aldous Huxley also wrote the books Visions, Books

Aldous Huxley are classified as dystopian. Dystopian novels are novels that describe an imaginary
society that is as dehumanizing and as unpleasant as possible. Atlas Shrugged is written by Ayn

An increasing amount of this sustenance was given and I devoured all of the nourishment. When
hunger subsided, I rested on the meal which led me to look around. Small orange blocks filled the

strange figures. There were more lights like this all over the room, some bright and some dim. A

Women On The Front Line
Society has built a stereotype that says women are inherently weaker than men. This has limited
women s chances to get ahead, but people are not standing idly by instead they are pushing for
women to get equal opportunity. Some of these advancements are that women now have the right
to vote, to own their property, and get jobs. However, not all jobs are available to women such as
combat positions in the military. Combat positions or chances on the front line are unavailable to
women because they are depicted as fragile and in need of protection. Women deserve the
opportunity to try to gain their placement on the front line because women can be just as strong as
men and they are willing to fight. The military is denying women the opportunity

a.Attention getter: About 85% of breast cancers occur in women who have NO (make sure to

get it.
b.Why should we care? According to (Bender, 2012) 40,000 women and approximately 390 men

It could be you.

d.According to breastcancer.org, Breast Cancer is the most common cancer among women
worldwide and the second most common cancer overall. In 2016, an estimated 247,000 cases of
invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in the U.S. alone. So no matter who you are or where you

Plea Bargaining Advantages
Some advantages and disadvantages of plea bargaining: As the name implies, a plea bargain
oftentimes allows a defendant to plea to a reduced charge, or have the District Attorney agree to
request a lesser sentence from the court. The advantage of this to the defendant is that it removes
the risk of receiving a higher sentence. The disadvantage is that it also eliminates the possibility of
being acquitted. A plea bargain avoids trial. The advantage of this to the court and District Attorney
is increased capacity to handle cases (trials take time, and the plea bargain reduces the amount of
time spent), and substantially reduced cost. An advantage to the prosecution and disadvantage to
the defendant is that entering a plea generally reduces the ability... Show more content on

This model supports those actions of the police and prosecutors to the fullest extent. The analogy
used to describe what the Crime Control Model looks like is a conveyor belt. It moves the alleged
Criminal through the system with the forethought that everyone is guilty until proven otherwise.
This model also limits the amount of plea bargaining and appeals. The demand for finality is high
in the Crime Control Model.
The Due Process Model is said to resemble an obstacle course. The values within the Due Process
model are based upon repression of crime as well as not assuming the police are not always
correct in their fact finding. This system is far more realistic in the fact that it leaves room for
error. It does not automatically assume that the alleged criminal is guilty before the case is proven.
The finality is very low within the Due Process Model. This means that there is room for appeals.
This system does not want to risk prosecuting an innocent person; it demands the prevention and
elimination of mistakes to the extent

it has been played for many years (History of Volleyball).
Women s uniforms have not changed as much as the sport has. In the 70 s women s volleyball

Evaluation Of A Universal Design For Learning
When it comes to education, it is important to determine what method of content delivery is going
to be the most effective for each individual class. Furthermore, it becomes increasingly important to
determine the most effective strategies for each individual student. Within the concept of a
universal design for learning (UDL), it becomes important to ensure that students have more than
just access to information: Non educators often make the mistake of equating access to information
with access to learning (Rose Meyer 2002). With UDL, students not only have access to
information, but they are enable through the access to learning. This can be manifested in a number
of ways, but is characterized by the availability of environments that promote learning and education
that promotes learning. UDL then becomes the method for which educators provide students with a
variety of methods to engage cognition, and allow for educators to meet the needs of diverse
learners.
Meeting the Needs of Diverse Learners by Implementing UDL Developing a curriculum is a
difficult process, moreso when an educator has to keep in mind the number of students they are
trying to reach. At the secondary level, it is not uncommon for a teacher to be responsible for 150
or more students. Each of these students presents a unique and trying task for educators who want
to help students learn. Students have different modalities for which they gain knowledge, and it is
the teacher s job to engage those

Archetypes In The Hero, The Mentor, And The Shadow
In The Hobbit, there are a variety of characters that play vital roles in the story. While this novel is
filled with many diverse characters, some have specific roles to play. These can be categorized into
archetypes. Archetypes describe the functions that people or items play in a story. Seven of these
archetypes exist, and three of them stand out in The Hobbit. The Hero, The Mentor, and The
Shadow are necessary archetypes that can be found in The Hobbit, and three characters fit these
roles perfectly. First of all, the archetype, The Hero, is represented by Bilbo Baggins, and for this
archetype, they sacrifice themself for the service of the journey. They grow and learn during this
time. For example, in chapter three, the text states, He was thinking once again of his comfortable

He provided Bilbo with help with his magic, and protected him. An example can be found in
chapter six, when Gandalf states, Up the trees quick! (The Hobbit, page 109). Gandalf told

well, in chapter seven, the the wizard explains, I always meant to see you all safe (if possible)
over the mountains (The Hobbit, page 125). Hence, this quote proves that Gandalf always looks
out for Bilbo Baggins, and gives him insight to help him. One more piece of evidence can be
found in chapter seven, when Gandalf exclaims, Don t be a fool Mr. Baggins if you can help it;
and in the name of all wonder don t mention the word furrier again as long as you are within miles
of his house, nor rug, cape, tippet, muff, nor any other such unfortunate word! (The Hobbit, page
127). According to this quote, Gandalf gave advice to Bilbo, and taught him what not to do.

The Dangers Of A Semi Truck Accident
The average vehicle weighs 5,000 pounds. However, an empty semi truck can weigh over 40,000
pounds. The legal maximum weight of a semi truck in America is 80,000. Because semi trucks are
much larger than cars, a semi truck accident can very easily result in devastating injuries.
Some of the most common semi truck accident injuries include brain injury, spinal cord damage,

Analysis Of On The Waterfront
On the Waterfront was photographed in such a captivating way. Boris Kaufman had a vision
ahead of his time. Many scenes in the movie are understood, not just through the script, but from
the cinematography as well. Three scenes in particular catch my eye. It is the artistic style and
flare of conveying the same idea in multiple mediums. The first scene is when Terry and Edie are
on the rooftop at Joey s pigeon coup. This scene portrays the moment in which I believe was the
catalyst for Terry that lead him to be truthful to Evie and stand up to Friendly. The second scene
that I will speak about is when Kayo Dugan is killed. When the preacher is giving his speech to
all the longshoremen. That speech was a testament of one man speaking out for what he knew
was right. The third scene that I will choose for this essay is where Terry walks to Friendly s
dock office. After the fight, Terry s march to work puts you on the edge of your seat. Each scene
has depth that few movies achieve. The first scene is the rooftop scene with Terry and Evie. The
whole scene is shot with natural light. Kaufman begins the scene with a long shot of the
rooftop. Terry is waving a long stick with a rag at the top of it to call back the pigeons to the
coup. I believe Terry waving the white flag was an implied surrender to Evie s love and the truth
of what really happened to Joey. Even though, Terry is still conflicted afterwards, this is his first
step toward standing up to the Friendly and his

The Role Of Cultural Diversity On The Identity Of The...
No matter where people come from they all have a different story or a background that makes
them unique from others. Everyone is raised differently, giving them characteristics that make them
who they are. Culture plays a major role in defining and shaping the identity of the person that you
have become because of the way you were raised and taught. The cultural diversity that helps define
individual backgrounds in which it sets everyone apart. Every culture has their own morals and
values that they believe in for instance the way how they see educationas and the things that they
believe is acceptable or not. Cultural background is what made you different from others because
of the way how you were raised and the experiences that you have gone through which have taught
you to become who you are now.
I was born in China even though I only lived there for a year it s still a part of me that had
impacted me a lot. I grew up in a family that takes education as a top priority. Ever since I was
little my parents always gives me lesson about the importance of education and how it will benefit
me in the future. Understanding, that it will help me in the future to obtain a good career. Even
though, my parents were strict, it made me more determined to work harder to accomplish my
goals. When I was young, I tend to get upset due to my parents using a strong tone explaining the
importance of obtaining a good education. Looking back, I realized that it was for my own good. I

Last Orders By Graham Swift
Last Orders by Graham Swift is a novel that tells the story of four men as they carry out the last
wishes of the recently deceased Jack Dodds: that his ashes be scattered into the sea at Margate, a
sea his family frequently visited. The story follows the four men on their journey to the sea
through the eyes of Ray Johnson, one of Jack s war buddies. The novelis also composed of
flashbacks through the eyes of several of the characters in the novel. The three other men, Vince
Dodds, Lenny Tate, and Vic Tucker, are influential to the plot as they are all used to narrate
flashbacks, as well. In Last Orders, Graham Swift uses these flashbacks to show how the characters
are shaped by each other; he does this through the characters occupations and hobbies, relationships
between couples, and relationships between parents and children. One way Swift introduces the
characters to his audience is through their occupations. Despite his being dead, Jack remains the
central character in the novel as many of the flashbacks reference Jack s occupation, a butcher. Jack
is forced to be a butcher because he must carry on the family business, but it is revealed by Ray
what he really wanted was to be a doctor (Swift 33). Given this, Jack shows ambivalence throughout
the flashbacks about being a butcher. Alexandra Marginean contends that Jack praises the
occupation as dignifying and manly, but at the same time resents it (272). However ambivalent he
may be, Jack shows that he has

Currency Act Of 1764 Essay
The central pillar of the British economy during its colonial period was its extensive trading
power. Any threat to this power would have to be remedied sooner than later. For this exact
reason the Currency Act of 1764 was birthed. In spirit the Currency Act of 1764 was intended for
the betterment of British commerce. However, in actuality the Currency Act of 1764 had a
negative impact on the lives of British colonial residents. To understand the reason, and perhaps
necessity, for the conception of the Currency act of 1764, one must have a grasp of the economic
situation in the American colonies prior to 1764. The currency used in the American colonies has
always revolved around, specie or the two types of paper currency, legislatively issued legal
tender or land bank notes (Finkelstein 39). Foreign specie was far more common than British
specie, due to an export prohibition of British specie and an unfavorable balance of trade between
the American colonies and Britain that drained whatever British specie... Show more content on

The economic situation in Virginia was turbulent even prior to the Seven Year war. In 1754,
Virginia s colonial treasury began to default on it debts. With the onset of the Seven Year War,
Virginia began to issue legal tender for war purposes. Beginning in the second half of 1755 and
with the emission of 60,000 sterling dollars for that period, Virginia s total outstanding debt was
230,000 sterling dollars by 1764. In 1759 the economic situation worsened for Virginia when
tobacco prices fell, damaging the local economy. All these factors combined with the complaints of
British merchants to the Board of Trade and Britain s desire to secure British merchant s financial
investments in the American colonies led to the Passage of the Currency Act of1764 (Ernst 33 37

The Futile Goal of Nicholas Branch in Don DeLillo s Libra...
The vast amount of evidence associated with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, an
event that occurred more than fifty years ago, is still being collected and examined by an array of
scientists, professional historians, and conspiracy theorists. Periodically, with continuous
developments and improvements in technology, new information is being discovered that either
relates to an existing theory about the assassination or inspires additional assumptions about the
identity and location of another supposed shooter. According to author Don DeLillo, the immense
quantity of the information pertaining to the heinous crime committed in Dallas on November
22nd of 1963 will never lead to or reveal a comprehensive and conclusive... Show more content on

He feels as if he must make meaning out of all the material in his possession and so, because he
does not know how to accomplish this, he remains perpetually immobile in his attempt to uncover
and write the true history of the assassination. Branch s objective to investigate all the facts about
the assassination places him in a chaotic situation. It is impossible for him to account for every
detail, fact, and occurrence linked to Kennedy s assassination because there is already too much
information for him to examine and much that has yet to be discovered. Christopher M. Mott, in
his essay Libra and the Subject of History , comments on Branch s need for absolute closure and
the chaotic results that arise: The novel implies that the version of the world that informs our
government s practices and dominates our episteme intends to account for every detail of existence.
It employs a totalizing discourse, a discourse of rational examination and explanation. Libra clearly
indicates that this penchant for total explanation leads, in fact, to total chaos. We simply cannot
account for every detail, every nuance. (143)
Branch s desire to piece together the factual events of the assassination has led to his abandonment
of life. He will forever be confined to his, as DeLillo describes, room of theories (57) since he must
study everything about the event. However, the CIA is constantly supplying him

Eventually he agreed to have lunch with you and McCree as well as Genji. You told Hanzo it

Mexican American Males and Alcoholism

Mexican American Males and Alcoholism Drinking alcohol is a behavior that diverse ethnicities
and cultures have adapted as a form of leisure, celebration, socialization, or cultural practice.
Mexican American males have engaged in drinking alcohol for all of these reasons. It is important to
analyze the process of acculturation Mexican American experience and how it affects their ability
to persuade and control their alcohol consumption. The stress of adjusting to a new place than the
one they have been accustomed to and have already been accepted in, can lead males to drink
alcohol to help them in coping with their issues. The gravity of extreme alcohol drinking is also ...

Lastly, access to alcohol in Mexico is not a difficult obstacle to overcome. Therefore, males who
migrated to the U.S. have already been heavily exposed to alcohol. These points are not to prove
that alcoholism among Mexican American men is caused entirely by the exposure of Mexico s
customs, but to outline the different reasons why a male might fall in alcoholism. A male who
migrates to the U.S. or a Mexican American male that has lived most or his entire life in the U.S.
as mentioned before, might engage in excessive drinking because of the pressures of acculturation.
Dealing with the stress of leaving behind natal customs to adapt new values and behaviors can
result heavy alcohol consumption. Even though the Mexican culture has already shaped the
behavior of drinking in males, it is still different from the American drinking behaviors. Mexican
men drink less frequently, but more heavily, while Americans drink more frequently, but not so
heavily (Gilbert and Cervantes 1987). Clearly a combination of both as a form of dealing with
stress can be catastrophic. During the acculturation process the greatest amount of stress can be felt
when the feeling of loneliness starts to settle in. When a male feels he is distanced from his
Mexican culture and life style, but not accepted by the new dominant culture he has been trying to
adapt, he is more susceptive to alcoholism (Zimmerman and Roysircar

The Feeling Of Love In William Shakespeare s Sonnet 116
Shakespeare s use of putting pictures in your mind and physical things that refer to ideas or
emotions in 14 line poem 116 hints that love is a constant feeling of love, hate, guilt, etc., which
never gives up to time. Love is a feeling of love, hate, and guilt, which all of us have an idea of. In
fact, a lot of us may even have experienced what we thought of to be true love. However, does such
thing mixed in the level of this feeling of love, hate, and guilt actually exist, and if it does are we
able to define it? This is something that William Shakespeare feels strongly about in Sonnet116 .
Shakespeare sticks to the traditions of the 14 line poem strictly within Sonnet 116 , as it is made
up of fourteen lines in total, with each line consisting itself of ten syllables. The sonnet also follows
a regular stress pattern.
The 14 line poem opens with a statement, proclaiming that it is not the purpose of the voice to
prevent the marriage of true minds . Basically, the voice is taking over what is to follow, in which
the voice outlines their order of what true love actually is. This is something that is put into aspect
by the following statement, love is not love, which changes when it changes finds (116 l.3); this
outlines the voice s main purpose that true love is steady and unchanging, it is not something that
shifts back and forth or bends in the face of outside forces. However it is not only the impact of
the outside world that are unable to bring forth, and as the

Theme Of Love In Siddhartha
Love comes in a variety of different ways, feelings, states, and attitudes that range from
interpersonal affection to pleasure. It can be an emotional attraction and personal attachment. It can
also represent human kindness, compassion, and affection. There is not one single definition of
love. We all know the feeling of loving multiple people in multiple different ways. We love
our
parents differently than we love our children, we love our children differently than we love our
one night stand, and we love our one night stand differently than we love our significant other.
People show and receive love in varied ways, all distinctly different from one another. In
Siddhartha, Hermann Hesse displays love as a universal language, shown in many different ways
through and to different people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In loving a friend, we have to let them go when they need to go and say what needs to be said
even when they do not want to hear it. Hesse quickly displays this type of love in the relationship
between Siddhartha and Govinda. By his side lived Govinda his shadow, walking the same path,
submitting himself to the same exertions (15). As Siddhartha counties his journey, Govinda makes
the choice to live on his own to follow the ways of life as a Shramana. As a friend, we always
want to see the best for each other, Siddhartha quickly comes to realization that though he never
thought Govinda would go on his own that is the best for him:
Then he spoke gently in a voice without a trace of scorn: Govinda, my friend, now you have
taken the step, now you have chosen the path. Always, o Govinda, you have been my friend,
always you have walked one step behind me. Often I have thought: Will Govinda never once take
a step alone, without me, from his own soul? See, now you have become a man and you yourself
are choosing your path. May you walk it to the end, o my friend. May you fine

Exercise. Why I Want To Know. Have You Ever Wondered How
Exercise
Why I Want to Know Have you ever wondered how much exercise you need to get maximum
benefits? And what exactly type of activity/exercise do you need to be doing? I chose this topic
simply because I, myself, have been recently pondering how much exercise I need. I started
consistently working out in January. I go to the Great Life gym either in Hartford or in Sioux
Falls. I ve discovered when I workout, I am a much happier person. My mood and energy level
improve all around. However, I don t want to be pushing my body too hard. So how much exercise
do I need weekly? Am I doing the correct exercises making sure to not strain my body?

I tried using the keywords exercise and benefits. I quickly realized this needed to be narrowed
down. So I used the keywords exercise, benefits, and weekly. About 30 articles came up. It didn t
take me long before I found the perfect article. I read through the article and realized this is
exactly the information I need. I then exported the article into EasyBib and continued on with
my search. I continued using EBSCO database. I tried using the keywords fitness, mental and
benefits. Again, I realized I needed to narrow down my search. Four hundred different articles
had come up. I narrowed my search down by using moderate exercise, mental, and benefits.
EBSCO provided me with 27 different articles. I found one that would work perfectly for my
research. While reading through this article, I noticed a word I didn t recognize. I quickly used
the dictionary built in on my computer to look up the word adjunct. I learned this word means a
thing added to something else as a supplementary rather than an essential part. Next, I switched
my database to Proquest. I used the keywords weekly, benefits, mental, and exercise. When I
searched the keywords, Proquest provided me with 56 articles. I read through each carefully to
find one that matched my topic. In the article I chose to use, researchers tested a group of students.
They recorded mood and anxiety levels before and after the workout. The students exercised at
different paces and for different amounts of

Literary Elements In The Matrix
The Matrix is a well known blockbuster film which was released in the year 1999. Viewers
commonly it identify by the fascinating video effects as well as the unreal (yet real in the movie)
acts performed in the scenes. The idea which I aim to explore concerning the movie in this essay
dwells on the usage of cinematographic elements, the theme of fate as well as the stylistic use of
literary elements.
The movie is well known for the advanced cinematographic effects and for a person who
understands film, the effects which are used in the film bring about a scientific as well as
imaginary concept which make the film fall under the genre of science fiction. Although most films
are fiction, sci fi films are quite intriguing because of the technologically ... Show more content on

  • 2. The Influence Of Learners First Language The influence of learners first language (L1) plays a significant role in learning a second language (L2). In general, numerous studies have been investigating L1 transfer. In specific, the influence of Arabic, more specifically Saudi Arabic, in learning English has been examined to demonstrate the native language transfer in L2 learning (Binturki, 2008; Grami and Alzughaibi, 2012; among others). Based on the influence of L1 and universal markedness (things that are present in a small number of languages), Eckman (1977) proposes the Markedness Differential Hypothesis (MDH). It helps predicting errors that L2 learners will have based on a comparison between L1 and L2 and universal markedness. The aim of the present study is to examine to what extent the MDH can account for mispronunciation of word final voiced stops by Saudi Arabian learners of English. The results of this study contradict the MDH. Despite the fact that both Saudi Arabic and English have voiced stops word finally, the Saudi Arabian learners did not produce the voiced stops in coda positions correctly. The subjects tended mostly to either substitute or devoiced final voiced stops. This paper will start with a brief discretion of the word final voiced stops (/b d g/) in Saudi Arabic and English. Then, an explanation about the MDH is involved followed by the section of data source and analysis, and finally conclusion. Review of Literature English and Arabic Stops In this section, I present a brief ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During the industrial revolution, the nuclear family was considered the norm, consisting of a mother and father living together with two biologically related children. Traditionally, the wife stayed home as the homemaker and looking after the children without pay. While the husband earns the money through working at a job away from the home. Furze (2015 p. 174) states that in the 1940s and 1950s, many sociologists and the general communities of Western countries such as Australia and New Zealand considered the traditional nuclear familythe most widespread and ideal family form. Additionally, backing this statement up Fletcher (2017) claims that from a functionalist perspective the nuclear familyis ideally suited to meet the necessities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Importance Of Racial Inequality Social inequality is a recurring problem throughout, not only the country, but the world. There are all kinds of inequalities throughout the world, and without any person or thing creating awarenesses this will induce more pandemonium. With that being said, in order to terminate racial inequality, people that are capable of bringing awareness to it need to start producing familiarity locally because it will suddenly erupt onto a more global impact. When analyzing how starting to bring awareness to social inequities and raise awareness at a local level can turn global and change the world, one who explores the specifics of racial discrimination can aware others about the dangers and results of this certain inequality. Politics, professional athletes protesting, and media discrimination are ways people have been making local awareness a global reality. In the end, with more and more awareness, more and more people will help end inequalities throughout the world. To begin, awareness of global issues within politics happen all of the time; therefore, bringing awareness to racial inequality within politics will spread globally and change the world. Racial discrimination occurring inside of the American government is between Donald Trump and the Mexican culture. The most emphasized facts Trump stated throughout his campaign and carried through his presidency is to build a wall on the border of the United States and Mexico, keeping all illegal immigrants out of the country. ... • 6. Persuasive Essay On Illegal Immigration The topic of illegal immigration and how best to handle it has always been a controversial topic in the U.S. The Trump administration is trying to address it by building a wall all the way along the border of U.S. and Mexico. Trump has always wanted to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico because he sais that it is needed and will stop illegal immigrationinto the U.S. However the U.S. Mexicoborder wall that Trump is proposing will not only be ineffective but will also be a huge waste of money and an act of ignorance to the real issues and solutions. One obvious reason for why a border wall is a bad idea is that it will be insanely expensive for numerous reasons. Trump makes it sound like building a border wall will be as easy as saying we are going to do it and then poof, it will be magically done, but that is not the case. Current estimates of the U.S. Mexico border wall are that it will cost up to $66.9 billion in taxpayer money which is easier said than done (Nazario). Not to mention the immense cost of hiring people to patrol the wall. In the end the border wall will cost Americans billions of dollars that they don t have and waste it on something that amounts to nothing more than America flexing its muscles. People also seem to think that the government is allowed to just build a wall along the border but this is not true. To begin with most of the border is not even owned by the federal government, more than 2/3rds is owned by private individuals and Native ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Progress in the word progressive means towards freedom and justice. Progressives were mostly concerned with the social problems that revolved around industrial capitalists society. Continue reading, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. This is no joke, this is no movie, this is real life and you re in it. The American media system is innately corrupt and built on the vain purposes of those who fuel it. The current mediaand journalism deceives its viewers and manipulates them via twisting and warping topics on a historically monumental scale causing a wide range of negative effects. The negative influences the media has on young men and women corrodes their self image and deforms it. While attacking the psyche of children it also promotes racism, xenophobia, and general fear in people from the suburban level to the state level. This idea of promoting fear mongering leads to the separation of people and country. In essence, journalism and the media as a whole have become a very successful pro prejudice system where anything and everything is negative. In no way is it ethically right to condone or support any media source, not for some freedom of information cause or political agenda. The act of condoning the media and journalism admits to the legitimacy of said media and in turn, condones such behavior. • 9. Moving Beyond A Standard Education Plan For Integrating... Moving beyond a standard education plan for integrating research results into existing curricula, this proposal emphasizes a proactive effort to offer next generation engineers an interdisciplinary training experience by using the proposed research of low power intelligent sensors. This education plan is targeting high schoolstudents and middle schoolteachers, as well as students from minority groups. Some planned activities have been explored by the PI with very positive feedbacks and evaluations. The background is based on the premise that future academic and industrial projects will require engineers to adopt a system level perspective and work with interdisciplinary teams [129]. Accordingly, current engineering students are expected to have system design experiences, and the ability to prototype demonstration systems, and also be able to communicate with engineers working in other areas, as well as identify potential market demand based on available technologies [130]. To date, this type of experience has not been offered sufficiently in classroom lectures and laboratory sessions [131]. Presently, our pedagogical practices tend to focus on conveying technical knowledge rather than giving students experience in system development [132]. The proposed research is uniquely cross disciplinary in that it includes both fundamental circuit design and signal processing techniques, and this cross disciplinary approach can be adopted in various ap plications. Looking out for your country can be as simple as helping out another individual who is going through a difficult time. Some Americans understand this concept better than others. The Americans in the book Strength in What Remains by Tracy Kidder, understand this especially well as they help the main character, Deo, heal. • 12. Differences Of Buddhism And Jainism Different civilizations have different interpretations of how the world came into existence and these interpretations normally make up the multitude of religions we have. While most religions share the same values, such as humility, gratitude, truthfulness, and peacemaking, they do not all agree with the theological part of religion, such as the creation. There are many different philosophies for this difference, but it is important to know some of the differences to understand a civilization s culture. Historical art pieces give a glance of early civilizations beliefs. Asia, including South, Southeast Asia, and East Asia contained many of the same religions. In Southeast Asia and Japan, Jainism, Hinduism, and Buddhismwere the most common religious affiliations during the Vedic and Maurya periods. Jainism and Buddhism have similar beliefs about how the world was created. They both don t believe in a creation story or a Christian God like figure. There is simply no beginning of the world in their minds. Jainism doesn t believe in Gods; therefore, there isn t anyone responsible for creation. They have a leader named Vardhamana. They find it more realistic to say that the world has always existed and has undergone changes as time progresses. However, these changes are due to nature itself and no higher being (Volatti). The results show that dexmedetomidine given during brain ischemia improved neurological and histopathological outcome after incomplete ischemia in rats anesthetized with fentanyl and nitrous oxide. Effective Communication And Interpersonal Communication Within this piece of writing I am going to go explain how effective communication and interpersonal interaction is crucial within health and social care, I will also discuss theories of communication and how they are effective within the health and social sector. Communication What is communication? Communication Is when two or more people exchange or express information, thoughts, feelings etc. by using sounds, signs, or behaviors. Why do people communicate? People communicate to find out how people are feeling, so if there are any problems they can help them out and take them to the doctors if needed, in some cases people communication just to have a catch up with a friend. A good example of this within health and social would be if a person that spoke a different language needed to go to the toilet you would have to communicate by using the right translation book to understand what they are saying. There are many different types to communicate which are; one to one, formal, and informal, between colleagues, with other professionals, between professionals and service users, multi agency, multi professional working I am now going to go into some detail about these different types to communicate to each other within a social workers industry, I will be giving examples throughout. • 19. Diarrhea In Neonatal Neonatal calf diarrhea remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality in young calves that causes substantial economic losses (Constable, 2004). Diarrhea in neonatal calves is a syndrome of great etiological complexity, in addition to the influence of various environmental, managemental, nutritional and physiological factors, numerous infectious agents are capable of causing neonatal calf diarrhea (Schumann et al., 1990). Multiple enteric pathogens have been recovered from diarrheic calves, their relative prevalence varies geographically but Escherichia coli, Rotavirus, and Coronavirus, C. perfringens, Salmonella spp. and Cryptosporidium spp. are recognized as the most common infectious agents in most areas (Garcia et al., 2000; Snodgrass et al., 1986).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These studies indicate that both healthy and diarrheic calves harbor STEC in their intestine (Blanco et al., 1997; Roopnarine et al., 2007) and shed the bacteria in great quantities for several months (Cray and Moon, 1995; Widiasih et al., 2004). Shiga toxin producing E. coli (STEC) are characterized by their ability to produce two types of shiga toxins virulence factors: shiga toxin 1 (encoded by the stx1 gene), shiga toxin 2(encoded by the stx2 gene). However, STEC isolates frequently have associated two virulence factors; intimin (encoded by the eaeA gene) and enterohaemolysins ( encoded by the hlyA) (Dean Nystrom et al., 1997; Kang et al., 2004). Intimin is responsible for intimate attachment of STEC to intestinal cells, causing formation of the characteristic attaching and effacing (A/E) lesions (Bolton, 2011). • 20. Diffusion And Osmosis Of Potato Cores Diffusion and Osmosis in Potato Cores By Brittany Pangilinan Abstract Van t Hoff s Law suggests that the osmotic potential of a cell is proportional to the concentration of solute particles in a solution. The purpose of this experiment was to determine if there are any differences between the osmolalities, the no weight changes of osmolalities, and the water potentials of potato cores in different solutions of different solutes. The percent weight change of the potato cores was calculated through a change in weight method. The potato core s weight was measured before and after they were put into different concentrations of a solute for 1.5 hours. In our experiment, there were no significant differences from the osmotic potentials of our results and the osmotic potentials of other scientists work. Ending with chi square values of 2.17 and 2.71, and p values of 0.256 and 0.337, concluding that there is no difference in water potentials of potato cores in different solutions of different solutes at varying concentrations. Introduction Water potential is the measure of potential energy in water, or the difference in potential energy between a water sample and pure water. An example of the first person narrative is already in the opening line: Yes I m from New York I say shifting my drink to my other hand. This in medias res opening throws us right into the story without telling when or where we are. It informs us that the narrator is from New York, and indicates that she isn t there at the moment. Essay about The Opening Sequence of Sleepy Hollow The Opening Sequence of Sleepy Hollow The very first thing the audience sees when watching this film is a thick red liquid dripping onto a parchment. Because the audience expects the film to be a horror film, they automatically think the liquid is blood. Seeing this image makes the audience assume someone has been murdered or at least injured. This one picture spurs questions in a person s mind like, who does the blood belong to? and Has someone been killed? The audience will want these questions answered, so they will continue to watch. The actual parchment that the wax is dripping onto is someone s Last Will and Testament. This instantly tells the viewer that someone has died, or perhaps is about to die since the same person that signed the document as a witness, signs it as the man that was supposed to have written the will. There is a huge close up of the will with the camera sweeping down from the top of the page to the middle. As the camera moves down, so do the viewers eyes as they read what is written on the page. There is a sort of sweeping sound effect mimicking the camera s movement. After the will has been signed, it goes back to the dripping sealing wax and then a seal is pressed down into it. There is, again, a close up of the seal being used and the sound effect is repeated. Since these sound effects would not occur in real life, they emphasis to the audience that the particular event they are heard with must be very important. Emphasis is given on an audio level as well as a visual level. The seal is lifted away to reveal the name of the family regarding the will. There has been a separate reform movement in special education that has also resulted in restructuring student placement and service delivery systems for these students. Most recently, the two reform movements are beginning to converge. The general education reform was started when a national commission report, A Nation at Risk, recommended educational improvements because U.S. students did not compare favorably in testing results with their counterparts in Japan and Germany. This has resulted in local school districts taking more direct responsibility for decision making that would affect all students and has included a stronger parent role in advocating for change. Along with this type of school reform, there has been a focus on schools providing comprehensive services for students and families that face multiple hurdles so that families can have their needs met for social, mental and public health services and coordinated in a single point of entry the school. The company is divided into four operating divisions (Glasseal, Hermetic Seal, Hermetite and Sealtron) , each of which is run completely independent by a general manager. These managers are responsible for the whole business operated in their division except for the control function, which is run by the division controllers who report directly to Chris Bateman, the CFO. Evaluation Of A Universal Design For Learning When it comes to education, it is important to determine what method of content delivery is going to be the most effective for each individual class. Furthermore, it becomes increasingly important to determine the most effective strategies for each individual student. Within the concept of a universal design for learning (UDL), it becomes important to ensure that students have more than just access to information: Non educators often make the mistake of equating access to information with access to learning (Rose Meyer 2002). With UDL, students not only have access to information, but they are enable through the access to learning. This can be manifested in a number of ways, but is characterized by the availability of environments that promote learning and education that promotes learning. UDL then becomes the method for which educators provide students with a variety of methods to engage cognition, and allow for educators to meet the needs of diverse learners. Meeting the Needs of Diverse Learners by Implementing UDL Developing a curriculum is a difficult process, moreso when an educator has to keep in mind the number of students they are trying to reach. At the secondary level, it is not uncommon for a teacher to be responsible for 150 or more students. As the only girl on the wrestling team, it was challenging at first. The guys were stronger than me, they were weary to touch me, afraid that they would hurt me. • 41. Analysis Of On The Waterfront On the Waterfront was photographed in such a captivating way. Boris Kaufman had a vision ahead of his time. Many scenes in the movie are understood, not just through the script, but from the cinematography as well. Three scenes in particular catch my eye. It is the artistic style and flare of conveying the same idea in multiple mediums. The first scene is when Terry and Edie are on the rooftop at Joey s pigeon coup. This scene portrays the moment in which I believe was the catalyst for Terry that lead him to be truthful to Evie and stand up to Friendly. The second scene that I will speak about is when Kayo Dugan is killed. When the preacher is giving his speech to all the longshoremen. That speech was a testament of one man speaking out for what he knew was right. The third scene that I will choose for this essay is where Terry walks to Friendly s dock office. After the fight, Terry s march to work puts you on the edge of your seat. Each scene has depth that few movies achieve. The first scene is the rooftop scene with Terry and Evie. The whole scene is shot with natural light. Kaufman begins the scene with a long shot of the rooftop. Terry is waving a long stick with a rag at the top of it to call back the pigeons to the coup. I believe Terry waving the white flag was an implied surrender to Evie s love and the truth of what really happened to Joey. Even though, Terry is still conflicted afterwards, this is his first step toward standing up to the Friendly and his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Last Orders By Graham Swift Last Orders by Graham Swift is a novel that tells the story of four men as they carry out the last wishes of the recently deceased Jack Dodds: that his ashes be scattered into the sea at Margate, a sea his family frequently visited. The story follows the four men on their journey to the sea through the eyes of Ray Johnson, one of Jack s war buddies. The novelis also composed of flashbacks through the eyes of several of the characters in the novel. The three other men, Vince Dodds, Lenny Tate, and Vic Tucker, are influential to the plot as they are all used to narrate flashbacks, as well. In Last Orders, Graham Swift uses these flashbacks to show how the characters are shaped by each other; he does this through the characters occupations and hobbies, relationships between couples, and relationships between parents and children. One way Swift introduces the characters to his audience is through their occupations. Despite his being dead, Jack remains the central character in the novel as many of the flashbacks reference Jack s occupation, a butcher. Jack is forced to be a butcher because he must carry on the family business, but it is revealed by Ray what he really wanted was to be a doctor (Swift 33). Given this, Jack shows ambivalence throughout the flashbacks about being a butcher. Alexandra Marginean contends that Jack praises the occupation as dignifying and manly, but at the same time resents it (272). However ambivalent he may be, Jack shows that he has ... • 44. Currency Act Of 1764 Essay The central pillar of the British economy during its colonial period was its extensive trading power. Any threat to this power would have to be remedied sooner than later. For this exact reason the Currency Act of 1764 was birthed. In spirit the Currency Act of 1764 was intended for the betterment of British commerce. However, in actuality the Currency Act of 1764 had a negative impact on the lives of British colonial residents. To understand the reason, and perhaps necessity, for the conception of the Currency act of 1764, one must have a grasp of the economic situation in the American colonies prior to 1764. The currency used in the American colonies has always revolved around, specie or the two types of paper currency, legislatively issued legal tender or land bank notes (Finkelstein 39). Foreign specie was far more common than British specie, due to an export prohibition of British specie and an unfavorable balance of trade between the American colonies and Britain that drained whatever British specie... Periodically, with continuous developments and improvements in technology, new information is being discovered that either relates to an existing theory about the assassination or inspires additional assumptions about the identity and location of another supposed shooter. He feels as if he must make meaning out of all the material in his possession and so, because he does not know how to accomplish this, he remains perpetually immobile in his attempt to uncover and write the true history of the assassination. Branch s objective to investigate all the facts about the assassination places him in a chaotic situation. It is impossible for him to account for every detail, fact, and occurrence linked to Kennedy s assassination because there is already too much information for him to examine and much that has yet to be discovered. Christopher M. Mott, in his essay Libra and the Subject of History , comments on Branch s need for absolute closure and the chaotic results that arise: The novel implies that the version of the world that informs our government s practices and dominates our episteme intends to account for every detail of existence. It employs a totalizing discourse, a discourse of rational examination and explanation. Libra clearly indicates that this penchant for total explanation leads, in fact, to total chaos. We simply cannot account for every detail, every nuance. (143) Branch s desire to piece together the factual events of the assassination has led to his abandonment of life. He will forever be confined to his, as DeLillo describes, room of theories (57) since he must study everything about the event. However, the CIA is constantly supplying him ... Therefore, males who migrated to the U.S. have already been heavily exposed to alcohol. These points are not to prove that alcoholism among Mexican American men is caused entirely by the exposure of Mexico s customs, but to outline the different reasons why a male might fall in alcoholism. A male who migrates to the U.S. or a Mexican American male that has lived most or his entire life in the U.S. as mentioned before, might engage in excessive drinking because of the pressures of acculturation. Dealing with the stress of leaving behind natal customs to adapt new values and behaviors can result heavy alcohol consumption. Even though the Mexican culture has already shaped the behavior of drinking in males, it is still different from the American drinking behaviors. Mexican men drink less frequently, but more heavily, while Americans drink more frequently, but not so heavily (Gilbert and Cervantes 1987). Clearly a combination of both as a form of dealing with stress can be catastrophic. During the acculturation process the greatest amount of stress can be felt when the feeling of loneliness starts to settle in. The Feeling Of Love In William Shakespeare s Sonnet 116 Shakespeare s use of putting pictures in your mind and physical things that refer to ideas or emotions in 14 line poem 116 hints that love is a constant feeling of love, hate, guilt, etc., which never gives up to time. Love is a feeling of love, hate, and guilt, which all of us have an idea of. In fact, a lot of us may even have experienced what we thought of to be true love. However, does such thing mixed in the level of this feeling of love, hate, and guilt actually exist, and if it does are we able to define it? This is something that William Shakespeare feels strongly about in Sonnet116 . Shakespeare sticks to the traditions of the 14 line poem strictly within Sonnet 116 , as it is made up of fourteen lines in total, with each line consisting itself of ten syllables. The sonnet also follows a regular stress pattern. The 14 line poem opens with a statement, proclaiming that it is not the purpose of the voice to prevent the marriage of true minds . Basically, the voice is taking over what is to follow, in which the voice outlines their order of what true love actually is. This is something that is put into aspect by the following statement, love is not love, which changes when it changes finds (116 l.3); this outlines the voice s main purpose that true love is steady and unchanging, it is not something that shifts back and forth or bends in the face of outside forces.
