Jefferson Davis Outline
In April 1865 Jefferson Davis flees Richmond, Virginia. The Confederate army lines broke and Lee
withdrew. Word of Lee s retreat soon reached Davis. As the Union army headed toward Richmond,
Davis prepared to leave. They gathered documents and ordered that bridges and weapons useful to the
enemy be burned.
At the home of the Confederate president, Abraham Lincoln sat on a chair in the president s office.
After visiting two Confederate prisons. Lincoln replied If I were in your place,I d let em up easy, let

Sources of Business Finance
Q 1. Discuss about different Sources of Business Finance.
Different Sources of Business Finance
Business is concerned with the production and distribution of goods and services for the satisfaction of
needs of society. For carrying out various activities, business requires money. Finance, therefore, is
called the life blood of any business. A business cannot function unless adequate funds are made
available to it. The initial capital contributed by the entrepreneur is not always sufficient to take care
of all financial requirements of the business. A business person, therefore, has to look for different
other sources from where the need for funds can be met. A business can raise funds from various
sources. Each of the sources has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further, through their right to vote, these shareholders have a right to participate in the management.
However, equity shares also carry more risk.
2. Preference Shares
The capital raised by issue of preference shares is called preference share capital. The preference
shareholders enjoy a preferential position over equity shareholders in two ways: (i) receiving a fixed
rate of dividend, out of the net profits of the company, before any dividend is declared for equity
shareholders; and (ii) receiving their capital after the claims of the company s creditors have been
settled, at the time of liquidation. In other words, as compared to the equity shareholders, the
preference shareholders have a preferential claim over dividend and repayment of capital. Preference
shares have some characteristics of both equity shares and debentures. Preference shareholders
generally do not enjoy any voting rights. Investments in these shares are safe, and a preference
shareholder also gets dividend regularly.
3. Debentures
Debentures are an important instrument for raising long term debt capital. Whenever a company wants
to borrow a large amount of fund for a long but fixed period, it can borrow from the general public by
issuing loan certificates called Debentures.
A company can raise funds through issue of debentures, which bear a fixed rate of interest. A
debenture is issued under the common

False Confessions Case Study
Even in the case of presenting false evidence, like DNA, fingerprints or video recorded material in
order to get a confession from the suspect, participants found this procedure extremely coercive but
apparently not coercive enough to elicit a false confession. According to above results, it seems that
potential jurors do not seem to realize that there is a very important connection between coercive
interrogations and false confessions. If jurors cannot be open to the idea of a false confession being a
product of a psychological pressure under interrogation then this would definitely have a critical
impact on the outcome of a trial.
On the other hand, since this was a study conducted with a student sample there are some restrictions
in generalizing its findings to the general public especially police investigators. However, according to
a research by Kassin, Meissner Norwick including both student participants and police investigators
shows some very important findings on this matter. In the present study, 118 participants served as
judges in confessions from 17 inmate volunteers. The true volunteers participated in two videotaped

The Role Of Client And The Right Treatment Plan
The following two prominent research literatures became the foundation for Client directed outcome
informed (CDOI):
1. A client s improvement was related to the high level of the engagement of the therapeutic
relationship; and
2. Change of the client s personal experience is imperative in the early stages of therapy it is also
reliable in predicting if the therapist is right for the client and the right treatment plan is utilized,
(Duncan, Miller, Sparks, 2004) evidence of clients giving real time feedback concerning the process
and outcome of therapy generated higher progress rates (Miller, Duncan, Brown, Sorrell, Chalk,

The CDOI entails valuing the uniqueness of the client s position of theory in therapy helping them to

In order to obtain a psychometric measure of therapeutic alliance the session rating scale is utilized
giving real time feedback measuring a client s perception, progress and the strength of the therapeutic
alliance, the session rating scales consists of two scales the Outcome Rating Scale (ORS) and the
Session Rating Scale (SRS) (Miller et al., 2006). The client is presented with the ORS at the start of
the session and marks an X on four different lines relating to a self report indicating the client s
individual, interpersonal relationship, and social functioning (Miller, 2012) giving the therapist an
insight to the client s perception of their world (Duncan et al. 2004). These results will determine the
client s uniqueness and therapy needs (Duncan et al. 2004). Miller (2012) explains the SRS, is

Garret Hardin The Tragedy Of The Commons Summary
In Garret Hardin s paper, The Tragedy of the Commons , he talks about the problem of overpopulation
and why it can t be solved by a technical means. He talks deeper about the population rate and a
supposed optimal population. Also, Hardin mentions the commons which are the resources of our
world. On this subject he argues the problems of how the commons are unregulated which would lead
to them being exploited into ruin be rational people. I will write to argue why the commons are being
protected regularly and how rational people can reason and understand long term effect of their
actions on these commons.
Hardin begins his paper by discussing a positive growth in population in a finite world. Finite in the
terms of the resources available for the problems we must face in the next few generations.
Specifically, the idea of zero population growth and how there is an ideal population on Earth. People
and cultures should be able to identify what their ideal population should be and once they do, the
population growth should hit zero. The reason why zero population is so important is because of how
many people are taking up resources of the commons. Hardin touches on the difficulties of finding the
optimum amount but understands the impossibility of it being solve in this generation.
Moving towards Hardin s main points. The commons are the resource within our finite world and are
available to everyone. These stretch from the fish in the sea, the metals in the ground below us,

Lev Vygotsky s Zone Of Proximal Development
A key concept of Lev Vygotsky s theory of cognitive development is the Zone of Proximal
Development. Vygotsky asserts that children have limited ability to learn independently, and this limit
is extended with support and guidance from a More Knowledgeable Other (MKO). The MKO may be
a parent, caregiver, teacher, or even technology. The Zone of Proximal Development describes the
potential ability of a child, supported with guidance from a MKO. According to Vygotsky, cognitive
development and learning occur when a child is challenged within the Zone of Proximal
Development, initially with support of a MKO, gradually reducing the assistance, until the child
achieves independence. What the child is able to do in collaboration today, he will be able to do
independently tomorrow (Vygotsky, as cited in Vygotsky Lives, n.d.). ... Show more content on

In some subgroups of the population, the statistics are even higher; more than 39% of African
American and nearly 37% of Native American children live in poverty (U.S. Census Bureau, 2012).
Poverty may be defined as the extent to which an individual does without resources (Payne, 2013, pg.
7). Poverty goes beyond financial resources, and includes emotional, cognitive, and relationship
resources. Students from low socioeconomic backgrounds may lack any or all of these resources. Lack
of emotional resources may be manifested in hopelessness and lack of motivation. Cognitively, these
students often display short attention spans and distractibility. And finally, their interpersonal
relationships may be limited and those limited relationships may not be positive. Understanding
poverty and finding strategies to reach under resourced students is a formidable challenge for

Now with new technology, such as satellites systems, low altitude photography and side looking radar,
scientists can now figure that the world is losing about 20.4 million hectares of tropical forests
annually and if these figures are not reduced, we will lose all of our tropical forests in about 50 years.
It has been suggested that the high deforestation rates are caused partly by the fact that the new
surveys are more accurate and thus reveal old deforestation rates that have not been detected with
older methods.
At first there was concern only among foresters about deforestation but now the public has created
organizations such as Green Peace to help increase awareness and reduce deforestation. The Food and
Agriculture Organization or
F.A.O, has worked mainly within the forest community to find new and better ways to manage the
forests. Also, in 1985 there was the introduction of the Tropical
Forestry Action Plan or T.F.A.P. This plan involved the F.A.O, United Nations development programs,
the World Bank, other development agencies, several tropical country governments, and several
government organizations. Together they developed a new strategy. More than 60 countries have
decided to prepare national forestry action plans to manage their forests.
Tropical deforestation has various direct causes: The permanent

Advantages of Grazing Cattle on Public Lands
Grazing cattle on public lands can have many advantages. Monetary gain is a large reason why lands
are utilized (Council for Agricultural Science, Livestock Grazing on Federal Land). However grazing
may be used as a tool for managing rangelands. Grazing could have possibly been the first form of
rangeland management other than fire (Frost, Prescription Grazing). With this method, weeds and
other undesirable vegetation were targeted to reduce numbers. However, if prescribed incorrectly it
could lead to poor conditions for other organisms living in that environment (Frost, Prescription
Grazing). Recently there has been a push toward research for the protection of the sage grouse. In this
paper we will explore the effects of rangeland grazing and rangeland treatments on the sage grouse
and its habitat.
The sage grouse, as the name may imply, has a large reliance on the sagebrush. Sage grouse need large
areas of sagebrush for cover, feed, and nesting (Patterson, Sage in Wyoming). A study in 1998 on sage
grouse nests found higher concentrations of successful sage grouse nests that were located in
undisturbed sagebrush sample areas that had thick brush cover and taller canopies (Sveum, Nesting
Habitat Selection). In the summer, sage grouse require a variety of components to survive. The bird
uses the sagebrush for cover though they also need open area with grasses and forbs for insect feed for
their offspring and for mating (Dunn, Adult Female and Juvenile).

Analysis Of The US Department Of Health And Human Services
The US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is an agency under the US Secretary of
Health and Human Services that protects and provides health and human services to American
citizens. The agency administers more than 100 programs some of which include: social services,
health insurance, prevention and wellness, research, among others (HHS, 2017). This assignment
analyzes of the agency s policies, procedures, and plans regarding unions, privatization, pensions, and
productivity.
The Agency and Unions

Employees (AFGE), which is the country s largest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, it is beneficial to the employees as through the union, things like wages and insurance
could be agreed through collective bargaining.
The Agency and Privatization
The main role of the DHHS is to protect the health of the citizens as well as offer human services
while promoting social services and public health. The agency is under the leadership of the US
Secretary of Health and Human Sciences who is directly appointed the president. Privatization of the
agency implies that the services and programs offered by the agency would be contracted with private
vendors. In case of a privatization, programs and services such as social services, health insurance,
public health and safety, and emergency preparedness and response would no longer be provided by
the government and citizens would seek these services from individual providers.
However, such services should only be provided by the government mainly because of the resources
involved and the coverage. There is no opportunity for privatization as this would mean that the
government would no longer be responsible for the protection of health and human services. The key
reasons why the agency should not privatize revolve around the quality of health and human services
as well as maintaining government jobs. Since the agency mainly offers health and related social
services, there are concerns that private companies will reduce the amount of

Homelessness Under The Mckinney Vento Homelessness...
Homelessness is one of the oldest problems that exist, fast forward almost 40 years since it s been
recognized as one and still there has been no avail to finding a real solution. The definition of
homelessness under the McKinney Vento Homelessness Assistance Act is defined as an individual:
who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence; and a person who has a nighttime
residence that is supervised publicly or privately operated shelter, and c) an institution that provides a
temporary residence for individuals intended to be institutionalized, or a private or public place not
designed for, a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings.
Homelessness is basically another form of poverty except more extreme, yet society treats it as if it
was on another spectrum of problems. Some in society stigmatize this population by saying things
like: they re homeless because they are drug addicts, alcoholics, they don t want to work and just live
off the government for free. What many forget to think about are the factors that have these people on
the street, or the fact that they are not only experiencing personal hardship by being without a
permanent residence but emotional ones as well. Add the fact they are sometimes discriminated
against and excluded by society, and you will realize you are looking at one of the most vulnerable
populations.
This homelessness population consists of people from all age groups: infants, children, adolescents,
adulthood, and the

Divine Command Theory Thomas Aquinas
Thomas Aquinas was an Italian philosopher who lived during the time of 1225 1274 AD. Aquinas was
most known for his studies in faith and reason. Aquinas ethics relies on the idea that there is a God and
that God is a perfect and loving being who is cares for his creation. But, Aquinas does not believe that
God has a set of commands that distinguishes right from wrong for each individual to follow. A way to
explain these rules is by the Divine Command Theory. To further explain, these rules are better
defined as the moral status of an action determined by the will or commands of God. It seems that
God created the distinction of right from wrong in order to aid human beings to act in a way that is
morally correct according to his commands so that they could achieve perfect happiness. Aquinas tells
us that perfect happiness is a perfect relationship with God. The Divine Command Theory is
completely independent of whether or not anyone believes it and is applicable to anyone at any time.
God has also wired all human beings in a certain way in which we have the ability to perform virtues
in order to fulfill functions and acting in ways that are against virtues and functions would not be
beneficial to the human as that is not how God has created us and commanded us to act. By
understanding Thomas Aquinas ethical views, we are able to better understand the idea of the Divine
Command Theory and why these two ideas go well together in discussing ethical decisions. Thomas

The Life And Accomplishments Of Frederick Douglass
When speaking of how African Americans evolved from being slaves to becoming free, one must not
fail to mention the life and accomplishments of Frederick Douglass. The actions taken by Frederick
Douglas and others that pave the way were perceived as huge achievements then and now. Negros, as
they were called in the 17th and 18th century where considered nothing more than slaves. Being a
slave did not grant human rights to anything at any time or any place. But Frederick Douglass had
different plans other than only being a slave. Overcoming slavery would become a life long journey
with the thoughts of becoming a free man the only possible option. Frederick Douglass was born in
slavery as Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey in Talbot County, Maryland. By only knowing his
mother s name and not knowing his date of birth or who his father was, this was normal for many
Negros. This hurdle was only a few of many challenges that were not only faced by Frederick Douglas
but also by many other slave s at this time. Growing up, Frederick Douglass was a very mild
mannered child. He was originally a house Negro who learned very quickly what roles slaves played
in their society. Slaves were not privileged to anything, they were not privileged to learn to read, write
or know their history, which crippled slaves into centuries of oppression. But early in his life,
Frederick Douglass knew this was not going to be his way of living.

Mental Health Of Individuals Living With Schizophrenia
Introduction
The mental health of individuals living with schizophrenia not only depends on the severity of their
mental illness, it also depends on their inclusion within their community (Michael, 2012). Despite
recent advances and treatment, individuals suffering from schizophrenia encounter a considerable
stigma that creates barriers to them receiving adequate treatment which in turn hinders their full
integration into society (Morgan, 2003). The conceptualization of stigma was explored (Goffman,
1963) as an attribute which is deeply socially discrediting and makes the person carrying the stigma
different from others and of a less desirable kind (Goffman, 1963 pg 13). However, the individual
experiencing schizophrenia is not solely the person affected by stigmatization. Stigma is also believed
to affect the individual s social network, including family, friends and mental health and social care
professionals. However (Sayce, 2000), building on the work of Goffman s theory, saw stigma as
driving stereotypes or negative views, attributed to a person, marginalising the person from receiving
adequate treatment. Much research has been conducted to aid understanding of stigma, through
studying public attitudes and beliefs.
In 2009 the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that 25 percent of the worldwide population
is affected by a mental or behavioural disorder at some point. Over 80% of people suffering from
mental disorders including schizophrenia and depression

Designing A Whole New Ultra Poreux Cellulose Based Material
Recent years witnessed a momentum of consumers towards products biodegradable and designed
according to more environmentally friendly ways of the environment. On the other hand, the increase
in the price of oil and its scarcity helped bringing forward new products of natural origin. The
objective of this article which is part of this perspective is to prepare and characterize a whole new
ultra poreux cellulose based material, called aerogel.
Even if their discovery date of the beginning of the 1930s by Kristler, aerogels are considered at
present the most promising new materials in the field of thermal super insulation. Not happy to be the
subject of much research in this area, their high level of nanoporosite characteristic makes them
indispensable in the development of batteries to fuel. The multitude of organic, inorganic or hybrid
materials, and the appearance of new methods of preparation and extraction offer prospects for use in
filtering system, ultrafine dust capture...
Aerogels can be inorganic (silica based) or organic (example of resorcinol formaldehyde). They have a
very low thermal conductivity, and are often super insulation, but they are relatively fragile (silica
aerogel) or toxic (organic aerogels). A new avenue of research was recently conducted in the aim of
developing type aerogels materials bio sources and super insulation. Thus aerogels made from
cellulose or derivatives, or other polysaccharides were investigated (for example in the articles:

OSA Pathogenesis Paper
Though overweight and an excess of regional adipose tissue are considered major risk factors for
OSA, there are also other interacting elements in OSA pathogenesis, such as craniofacial
abnormalities and an altered UA structure. The rationale of using image and speech analysis in OSA
assessment can be found on works such as Lee et al. [3, 4] and Davidson et al. [5], where the
evolutionary changes in physiological characteristics such as craniofacial morphology or acquisition
of speech are connected to the appearance of OSA from an anatomical basis.
First studies looked for abnormalities within craniofacial structures using techniques and processing
common in medical imaging such as cephalometry or computed tomography (CT). In [6] authors

assessed by lateral cephalometry such as position of mandible (P 0.05), mandibular plane angle (P

they also reported differences in tongue (P 0.001), soft palate (P 0.001), and upper airway (P 0.01) size
determined from computed tomography. In [8], authors studied oropharyngeal soft tissues profile by
means of cephalometric analysis to detect differences between control and sleep apnea individuals.
Significant differences were related to the length of the soft palate (P 0.001), area of the soft palate (P

works rely on advanced imaging techniques, allowing a detailed examination of bony and soft tissue

The Ending of White Minority and Nelson Mandela Essay
The Ending of White Minority and Nelson Mandela
In 1948, the Apartheid system officially started. A Dr. Malan introduced it. He established the
structure of Apartheid because he exclaimed different races could not live amongst each other in
harmony and needed to live separately. Some might argue it was because he wanted to secure the
supposed superiority of the White minority. It ended within 50 year of starting.
This essay is going to explain how Nelson Mandela, once just a member of a small Black tribe in the
depth of South Africa, fought Apartheid to become a worldwide figurehead for non Whites, the first
Black president of South Africa, in 1994. It will also explain to what extent his ... Show more content

Drastic times lead to drastic measures, so Mandela sought temporary refuge in neighbouring countries,
ruled by Blacks to set up militia groups. Mandela study military tactics for a long time and used that
knowledge to train his group to sabotage electricity supplies for White neighbourhoods, strike
government buildings and cause a general disruption for the Whites. But in 1962, on Mandela s return
to South Africa, he was arrested.
This is a key factor in which opinion disagrees with Mandela solely ending Apartheid. When arrested
he was sent to a high security prison on Robben Island, off the coastline of South Africa, for 26 years.
Although, in response, others feel Mandela was a figurehead who inspired other Blacks to fight for
their cause. Also he receives credibility for the awareness around the world at the time.
After Mandela s release he became president of South Africa in 1994, and with help from his White
deputy, de Klark, managed to dismantle the Apartheid state.
When Mandela took refuge it was at a time when a trend swept across the continent of Africa. During
the late 50s and throughout the 60s, the White colonies that ruled over 30 countries in Africa gave
independence to the Black peoples of the countries. This allowed Black people to govern themselves.
The trend seamed to spread from North to South Africa from Libya, in the North in 1951 through to

The Disconnection By Alice Walker
In Everyday Use Historical Criticisms explores the disconnection that people can sometimes have
depending on their education. Alice Walker successfully shows the disconnection by comparing two
ends of the spectrum of generation. Taking the historical context it plays a major role in the way this
short story is viewed. It was a time where people of color had a different and difficult experience
getting an education. When the narrator was talking about having an education it was important
because she wanted to be on a television show her success and how far she went. However Dee see s

As the story progressed it led to Dee fighting for the quilts since she did not want Maggie to have
them because she was just going to use it as an everyday item instead of valuing it as art. Can I have
these old quilts? I heard something fall in the kitchen, and a minute later the kitchen door slammed.
Why don t you take one of the others? No, said Wangero (Dee) I don t want those (Walker 292). Dee
wanted the quilts to have them hanging on the wall at her house to show her heritage and her culture.
In that short section it showed the difference of wanting to use the quilt as an everyday item as some
form of art to make a statement of showing how proud she was her heritage during a time where
colored people were oppressed. In the end of the story when Dee leaves after the argument and has a
dramatic exit while, her mother and Maggie just sit outside until bedtime, which showed the
difference of the older generation and new. On one side there is a passive approach and then there is
the new generation which is demonstrated as being a fighter, and fighting for what you believe until
you get what you want or at least try. One main focus in this story is heritage and the different value is

Andy Warhol Influence
Andy Warhol is considered to be one of the most impactful artists to work in the later
half of the 20th century. His work challenged the institution of art in so many ways, from the
integration of popular culture iconography to his method of production in his Factory ; Warhol
confronted what made art art , and redefined it throughout the span of his career. Personally,
Warhol was obsessed with celebrity and mass reproduction of commodities of any kind. This
infatuation greatly influenced the way he worked, by using screen print, and appropriating
images from pop culture of the 60 s, he was able to gain the infamy he so adored. The infamous

notion that his work was obvious and lacked substance. Unlike Warhol, Marcel Duchamp, who
influenced movements like Dada, Pop, and Conceptualism poked fun and questioned the
institution by challenging them with thought provoking works like Fountain (1917) and Etant

voyeurism, irony, humor, and capitalism (The Art Story). Warhol may be compared to Duchamp,
however, their efforts seem very different, even at face value. The work that took place at the
factory was experimental in nature, but included a slew of studio assistants that aided Warhol in
the process of removing the artist from the art and questioned the value of the artist s hand
within the work (Guggenheim Museum). This concept brought critics and fans alike, but either
way, Warhol was still talked about, obsessed over, and scrutinized. All things the modern

Involuntary Manslaughter
Principles of Manslaughter
Manslaughter seems to be the most flexible and elusive type of homicide as far as the court system
goes. The law has gradually made successful differentiations and weeding out about how it recognizes
murder on the one hand, based mainly, though not exclusively, on an intention to kill. Manslaughter
on the other hand, based mainly, though not exclusively, on the absence of intention to kill. This may
be because manslaughter is generally divided by lawyers into two categories, voluntary and
involuntary manslaughter. The former concerns instances when the intention to kill is found, but the
defendant successfully raises partial defenses such as provocation, diminished ... Show more content

The former requires a duty of care and a level of negligence so foul as to fall far below the level of
standards expected. Then later on the other hand takes us to the boundaries between murder and
manslaughter. For someone to be convicted of murder, there needs to be an intention to kill. If
therefore someone intends to claim insurance on the house or just to frighten someone, there is no
intention to kill, as such they may be convicted of subjective reckless manslaughter. This is subjective
as the defendant must be virtually certain that his action will cause death or grievous bodily harm,
rather than a reasonable man, to be convicted of murder. Otherwise, if the defendant could not care
less or appreciates the risk yet is reasonable in undertaking it, D may be found guilty of subjective
reckless manslaughter. The test for this variety of manslaughter seems to be too lenient as it is
questionable whether the defendant has not in principle murdered someone when death is probable,
but not practically certain. The law commission warns us against an objective or more rigid test as it
may lead to the conviction of someone who does not have a reasonable level of intelligence,
suggesting therefore that they are being punished for having a lower level of intelligence or maturity.
If a child does not have enough experience of the world to understand that gasoline is highly
inflammable, therefore is not practically certain that death

While some of these deficiencies related to the planning process itself, many stemmed from an
ineffectual organization of the planning activity and a failure to develop the necessary internal
relationships (Simkin, 2002).
Traditionally, planning has been based on the assumption that the future is predictable as an
extrapolation of the past and present. In the face of a radically different future, many organisations
will find that doing more with the same or doing it better will not suffice. (Blanken and Liff, 1999, pp.
97 98). The planning is unpredictable for the future. Therefore, there are many ways in which the
process can go wrong. For example, Most companies plan, using a combination of forecasting and
budgeting systems. These tend to project current business into the future, which can work if the future
is going to be the same as the present or the past (McDonald, 2002).
Make a successful planning
A successful marketing strategy plan is fit with the appropriate context, whether it is measured
successfully is depends on the companies. Strategies have two essential characteristics, they are made

We go to school day after day and see the same things happening. We never have the time to question
these things or to even stop and take a second to wonder, is this the right way to handle this or is this
what I am supposed to be doing with my life. From the moment we walk through those school doors
until we leave at the end of the day there is nothing but competition. There are many different kinds of
competition, whether it is in a sport for school or for who has the best academic scores. A second in

Many people believe that we need to have our children competing to be the best of the best when they
are young. Therefore, giving them a head start on a great future. In Rose he says, Students will float to
the mark you set. (Rose 154) This means that if we set the mark at college, there are kids that will
compete to be the best out of their class and will strive to become the most successful. Although we do
not realize this, but by setting that mark it is giving the slackers something to aim for even though they
never seem to compete for anything. This means that by having an environment that is willing to push
even the slackers in school shows that they to can have something to compete for in the future. The
environment of students plays an important role in helping students compete to become better. We
tend to see better scores from students in private schools rather than students in public schools, this is
because students are pushed harder in private schools and are competing to be the best because they
know that if they start to fall behind they will be left in the dust. These students become the slackers.
Problems start to form when the parents of the slackers start to shelter them and say that competing is
not that important. Young adults are smart and they see this as an opportunity to use their parents.
When reading Katherine S. Newman, The Accordion Family: Boomerang Kids, Anxious Parents, and
the Private Toll of Global Competition we find it interesting when she brings up the topic on how
Adult children are migrating home or refraining from leaving in the first place, and there they stay for
many years longer. (Newman 91) With this being said we can right away notice that there is no

In the future, doctors will be able to expand on this with the growing field of proteomics. Proteomics
is the study of all the proteins that can be found in a cell and, therefore, an organism. Amino acids are
the chemical units of proteins and are considered to be the building blocks of life. They are important
in almost every function a cell does within itself and the entire organism. Blood circulates through our
entire bodies which means the proteins in our blood have reflected everything that is happening in the
human body. This means an infection in a person s foot, can be seen through the proteins in blood
drawn from the arm. The potential power of proteomics is mind blowing. With proteomics, doctors
can find any disease, disorder, or any other problem just by examining a single drop of blood. Instead
of running dozens of different tests to find out what is wrong with someone, all a doctor has to do is
draw the patient s blood, send it to the lab, and wait for the results (Agus 110 112). This will save a lot
of time and money for the patient as well as helping him/her improve her medical condition.

Traditional Sangomas And Traditional Beliefs
The History of the traditional healer is closely linked to the concept of African tradition religion.
African people are seen as very religious and did not worship inert object. They believe in a supreme
being known by different names: Umvelingangi for the Zulus, Uqamatha for the Xhosa, Tilo for the
Tsonga, etc. The Sangomas see their ancestors resting in another spiritual realm not distend from the
angels of God. Therefore, they passed to them the baton of their deed before their departure.
Traditional healing started a long time ago when our forefather used to get information through the
dreams when there is something that was going to happen in the family. This practice passes on from
generation to generation. It is impossible to become a traditional healer and in the family tree, there
was never such. One cannot become a Sangoma unless he or she has a calling from the ancestors and
there must be one Sangoma in their lineage. The Sangomas emphasise on the importance a close
friendship with the ancestors by doing regular sacrifice to them, honouring and pledging allegiance to
them. The Sangomas did not see themselves opposed to Western medicine but a different perspective
on health.

White historians in the past described the relationship between slavery in the American South and the

white historians believed that slavery had no impact on America s modern economy or

a modern act in society would be to recognize it as something commonplace in that specific day and
age.

Synthesis Essay On The Melting Pot
The United States has a motto, e pluribus unum, that suggests that in America, embracing diversity
creates unity. Long ago, during the 1900s, assimilation was considered to be crucial in order for a
naturalization process to occur. Immigrants were forced to assimilate and adopt to the American
culture, in which they had never been introduced to before. Over time, things evolved and changed to
the point where people began to assimilate to a certain point, but still have their cultural traditions,
giving America a nickname known as the Melting Pot. America being known as The Melting Pot,
defends the claim that in today s society, The United States of America is moving toward a new
standard in which diversity and individuality are encouraged more than uniformity and conformity.
Before a naturalization ceremony occurs, the United States citizens still have their cultural ideas and
languages being spoken along with them. In Source 1, it s a picture of citizens all waving American

ASD in Adults
It is known that 80% of adults in the United States have experienced trauma at least once in their lives.
I simply cannot imagine an adult going through this, but it must be more difficult for children to
overcome it. It is not common for older adults to develop ASD, as they have most likely learned how
to cope with stressful events. Experiencing a traumatic event at a young age can most likely lead to
developing ASD in adulthood. ASD in adulthood can easily develop into a more complex
psychological disorder known as PTSD. A treatment that can help adults is Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy, which can reduce the trauma. This treatment is usually used and is more effective in children
rather than adults. Another type of treatment is Eye Movement Desensitisation and reprocessing,
(EMDR). EMDR is a type of therapy treatment that can help people recover from their emotional
distress in life. This type of therapy has been proven to be very effective in most cases, and is still
used.

adults do. For example:

The Pros And Cons Of Makah Whaling
Introduction
The debate surrounding Makah whaling is a heated one to say the least. There are valid points on both
sides of the argument, but there is one side I find to be more valid once the facts have been looked at. I
will examine and present my findings regarding past and current laws and regulations related to
whaling, types of whaling, other countries that take an active part in whaling (and why), as well as the
Makah culture both past and present. In this paper I will argue why the Makah should not be allowed
to resume whaling, as it is unnecessary and could potentially put the grey whale species back on the
endangered list.
The International Whaling Commission (IWC)
In 1946 a group of 15 nations gathered together to sign a treaty aimed at conserving the whale
population following their strong concern regarding the over hunting of whales. The treaty led to the
creation of an oversight body known as the International Whaling Commission (IWC) that was
created under the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling. The Convention is intended

Humans have Engangered the Columbia River Limpet
The Columbia River Limpet, otherwise known as the Short faced Lanx, is endangered due to human
causes. This species is endangered due to population fragmentation and isolation, dam building, and
many other human causes. In addition, habitat loss is one of the biggest problems because this
organism has such specific habitat requirements. This species lives in a freshwater ecosystem and
now, large populations can only be found in 4 streams. On the other hand, these human induced
problems can be remedied with a few restrictions, support, and a little effort. The scientific name of
this organism is Fisherola Nuttalli. The Columbia River Limpet is a small lunged (pulmonate) snail.
According to an article by Celeste Mazzacano at the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation
(http://www.xerces.org/giant columbia river limpet/), It has a limpet like appearance, with an uncoiled
conical shell that has a wide base and a smooth, eccentric (off center) apex. The shells may reach up to
8 mm long, 6.25 mm wide, and 3 mm high; they are rich brown in color and appear striped due to fine
concentric growth rings (Neitzel Frest 1992). This organism is known as an invertebrate due to the
lack of a backbone. Invertebrates lack a vertebral column, which is made up of bones called vertebrae.
The scientific name for animals lacking a backbone is Invertebrata. On the other hand, animals with a
backbone are known as vertebrates, the scientific name being Vertebrata. There are over 1

  • 3. Sources of Business Finance Q 1. Discuss about different Sources of Business Finance. Different Sources of Business Finance Business is concerned with the production and distribution of goods and services for the satisfaction of needs of society. For carrying out various activities, business requires money. Finance, therefore, is called the life blood of any business. A business cannot function unless adequate funds are made available to it. The initial capital contributed by the entrepreneur is not always sufficient to take care of all financial requirements of the business. A business person, therefore, has to look for different other sources from where the need for funds can be met. A business can raise funds from various sources. Each of the sources has ... Preference Shares The capital raised by issue of preference shares is called preference share capital. The preference shareholders enjoy a preferential position over equity shareholders in two ways: (i) receiving a fixed rate of dividend, out of the net profits of the company, before any dividend is declared for equity shareholders; and (ii) receiving their capital after the claims of the company s creditors have been settled, at the time of liquidation. In other words, as compared to the equity shareholders, the preference shareholders have a preferential claim over dividend and repayment of capital. Preference shares have some characteristics of both equity shares and debentures. Preference shareholders generally do not enjoy any voting rights. Investments in these shares are safe, and a preference shareholder also gets dividend regularly. 3. Debentures Debentures are an important instrument for raising long term debt capital. Whenever a company wants to borrow a large amount of fund for a long but fixed period, it can borrow from the general public by issuing loan certificates called Debentures. A company can raise funds through issue of debentures, which bear a fixed rate of interest. A debenture is issued under the common ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. False Confessions Case Study Even in the case of presenting false evidence, like DNA, fingerprints or video recorded material in order to get a confession from the suspect, participants found this procedure extremely coercive but apparently not coercive enough to elicit a false confession. According to above results, it seems that potential jurors do not seem to realize that there is a very important connection between coercive interrogations and false confessions. If jurors cannot be open to the idea of a false confession being a product of a psychological pressure under interrogation then this would definitely have a critical impact on the outcome of a trial. On the other hand, since this was a study conducted with a student sample there are some restrictions in generalizing its findings to the general public especially police investigators. However, according to a research by Kassin, Meissner Norwick including both student participants and police investigators shows some very important findings on this matter. In the present study, 118 participants served as judges in confessions from 17 inmate volunteers. The true volunteers participated in two videotaped interviews. In the first one, they had to talk about the crime they did commit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Garret Hardin The Tragedy Of The Commons Summary In Garret Hardin s paper, The Tragedy of the Commons , he talks about the problem of overpopulation and why it can t be solved by a technical means. He talks deeper about the population rate and a supposed optimal population. Also, Hardin mentions the commons which are the resources of our world. On this subject he argues the problems of how the commons are unregulated which would lead to them being exploited into ruin be rational people. I will write to argue why the commons are being protected regularly and how rational people can reason and understand long term effect of their actions on these commons. Hardin begins his paper by discussing a positive growth in population in a finite world. Finite in the terms of the resources available for the problems we must face in the next few generations. Specifically, the idea of zero population growth and how there is an ideal population on Earth. People and cultures should be able to identify what their ideal population should be and once they do, the population growth should hit zero. The reason why zero population is so important is because of how many people are taking up resources of the commons. Hardin touches on the difficulties of finding the optimum amount but understands the impossibility of it being solve in this generation. Moving towards Hardin s main points. The commons are the resource within our finite world and are available to everyone. These stretch from the fish in the sea, the metals in the ground below us, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Vygotsky asserts that children have limited ability to learn independently, and this limit is extended with support and guidance from a More Knowledgeable Other (MKO). The MKO may be a parent, caregiver, teacher, or even technology. The Zone of Proximal Development describes the potential ability of a child, supported with guidance from a MKO. According to Vygotsky, cognitive development and learning occur when a child is challenged within the Zone of Proximal Development, initially with support of a MKO, gradually reducing the assistance, until the child achieves independence. What the child is able to do in collaboration today, he will be able to do independently tomorrow (Vygotsky, as cited in Vygotsky Lives, n.d.). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has been suggested that the high deforestation rates are caused partly by the fact that the new surveys are more accurate and thus reveal old deforestation rates that have not been detected with older methods. At first there was concern only among foresters about deforestation but now the public has created organizations such as Green Peace to help increase awareness and reduce deforestation. The Food and Agriculture Organization or F.A.O, has worked mainly within the forest community to find new and better ways to manage the forests. Also, in 1985 there was the introduction of the Tropical Forestry Action Plan or T.F.A.P. This plan involved the F.A.O, United Nations development programs, the World Bank, other development agencies, several tropical country governments, and several government organizations. • 9. Advantages of Grazing Cattle on Public Lands Grazing cattle on public lands can have many advantages. Monetary gain is a large reason why lands are utilized (Council for Agricultural Science, Livestock Grazing on Federal Land). However grazing may be used as a tool for managing rangelands. Grazing could have possibly been the first form of rangeland management other than fire (Frost, Prescription Grazing). With this method, weeds and other undesirable vegetation were targeted to reduce numbers. However, if prescribed incorrectly it could lead to poor conditions for other organisms living in that environment (Frost, Prescription Grazing). Recently there has been a push toward research for the protection of the sage grouse. In this paper we will explore the effects of rangeland grazing and rangeland treatments on the sage grouse and its habitat. The sage grouse, as the name may imply, has a large reliance on the sagebrush. Sage grouse need large areas of sagebrush for cover, feed, and nesting (Patterson, Sage in Wyoming). A study in 1998 on sage grouse nests found higher concentrations of successful sage grouse nests that were located in undisturbed sagebrush sample areas that had thick brush cover and taller canopies (Sveum, Nesting Habitat Selection). In the summer, sage grouse require a variety of components to survive. The bird uses the sagebrush for cover though they also need open area with grasses and forbs for insect feed for their offspring and for mating (Dunn, Adult Female and Juvenile). Over the years, ... Homelessness is one of the oldest problems that exist, fast forward almost 40 years since it s been recognized as one and still there has been no avail to finding a real solution. The definition of homelessness under the McKinney Vento Homelessness Assistance Act is defined as an individual: who lacks a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence; and a person who has a nighttime residence that is supervised publicly or privately operated shelter, and c) an institution that provides a temporary residence for individuals intended to be institutionalized, or a private or public place not designed for, a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings. Homelessness is basically another form of poverty except more extreme, yet society treats it as if it was on another spectrum of problems. Some in society stigmatize this population by saying things like: they re homeless because they are drug addicts, alcoholics, they don t want to work and just live off the government for free. What many forget to think about are the factors that have these people on the street, or the fact that they are not only experiencing personal hardship by being without a permanent residence but emotional ones as well. • 14. Divine Command Theory Thomas Aquinas Thomas Aquinas was an Italian philosopher who lived during the time of 1225 1274 AD. Aquinas was most known for his studies in faith and reason. Aquinas ethics relies on the idea that there is a God and that God is a perfect and loving being who is cares for his creation. But, Aquinas does not believe that God has a set of commands that distinguishes right from wrong for each individual to follow. A way to explain these rules is by the Divine Command Theory. To further explain, these rules are better defined as the moral status of an action determined by the will or commands of God. It seems that God created the distinction of right from wrong in order to aid human beings to act in a way that is morally correct according to his commands so that they could achieve perfect happiness. Aquinas tells us that perfect happiness is a perfect relationship with God. The Divine Command Theory is completely independent of whether or not anyone believes it and is applicable to anyone at any time. God has also wired all human beings in a certain way in which we have the ability to perform virtues in order to fulfill functions and acting in ways that are against virtues and functions would not be beneficial to the human as that is not how God has created us and commanded us to act. By understanding Thomas Aquinas ethical views, we are able to better understand the idea of the Divine Command Theory and why these two ideas go well together in discussing ethical decisions. • 21. Mental Health Of Individuals Living With Schizophrenia Introduction The mental health of individuals living with schizophrenia not only depends on the severity of their mental illness, it also depends on their inclusion within their community (Michael, 2012). Despite recent advances and treatment, individuals suffering from schizophrenia encounter a considerable stigma that creates barriers to them receiving adequate treatment which in turn hinders their full integration into society (Morgan, 2003). The conceptualization of stigma was explored (Goffman, 1963) as an attribute which is deeply socially discrediting and makes the person carrying the stigma different from others and of a less desirable kind (Goffman, 1963 pg 13). However, the individual experiencing schizophrenia is not solely the person affected by stigmatization. Stigma is also believed to affect the individual s social network, including family, friends and mental health and social care professionals. However (Sayce, 2000), building on the work of Goffman s theory, saw stigma as driving stereotypes or negative views, attributed to a person, marginalising the person from receiving adequate treatment. Much research has been conducted to aid understanding of stigma, through studying public attitudes and beliefs. Expanding further on the notion that his work was obvious and lacked substance. Unlike Warhol, Marcel Duchamp, who influenced movements like Dada, Pop, and Conceptualism poked fun and questioned the institution by challenging them with thought provoking works like Fountain (1917) and Etant donnes (1946 66). These works, unlike Warhol s, had meaning and confronted topics like voyeurism, irony, humor, and capitalism (The Art Story). Warhol may be compared to Duchamp, however, their efforts seem very different, even at face value. The work that took place at the factory was experimental in nature, but included a slew of studio assistants that aided Warhol in the process of removing the artist from the art and questioned the value of the artist s hand within the work (Guggenheim Museum). This concept brought critics and fans alike, but either way, Warhol was still talked about, obsessed over, and scrutinized. All things the modern celebrity faces.

The law has gradually made successful differentiations and weeding out about how it recognizes murder on the one hand, based mainly, though not exclusively, on an intention to kill. Manslaughter on the other hand, based mainly, though not exclusively, on the absence of intention to kill. This may be because manslaughter is generally divided by lawyers into two categories, voluntary and involuntary manslaughter. The former concerns instances when the intention to kill is found, but the defendant successfully raises partial defenses such as provocation, diminished ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The former requires a duty of care and a level of negligence so foul as to fall far below the level of standards expected. Then later on the other hand takes us to the boundaries between murder and manslaughter. For someone to be convicted of murder, there needs to be an intention to kill. If therefore someone intends to claim insurance on the house or just to frighten someone, there is no intention to kill, as such they may be convicted of subjective reckless manslaughter. This is subjective as the defendant must be virtually certain that his action will cause death or grievous bodily harm, rather than a reasonable man, to be convicted of murder. Otherwise, if the defendant could not care less or appreciates the risk yet is reasonable in undertaking it, D may be found guilty of subjective reckless manslaughter. The test for this variety of manslaughter seems to be too lenient as it is questionable whether the defendant has not in principle murdered someone when death is probable, but not practically certain. The law commission warns us against an objective or more rigid test as it may lead to the conviction of someone who does not have a reasonable level of intelligence, suggesting therefore that they are being punished for having a lower level of intelligence or maturity. While some of these deficiencies related to the planning process itself, many stemmed from an ineffectual organization of the planning activity and a failure to develop the necessary internal relationships (Simkin, 2002). Traditionally, planning has been based on the assumption that the future is predictable as an extrapolation of the past and present. In the face of a radically different future, many organisations will find that doing more with the same or doing it better will not suffice. (Blanken and Liff, 1999, pp. 97 98). The planning is unpredictable for the future. Therefore, there are many ways in which the process can go wrong. For example, Most companies plan, using a combination of forecasting and budgeting systems. From the moment we walk through those school doors until we leave at the end of the day there is nothing but competition. There are many different kinds of competition, whether it is in a sport for school or for who has the best academic scores. In Rose he says, Students will float to the mark you set. (Rose 154) This means that if we set the mark at college, there are kids that will compete to be the best out of their class and will strive to become the most successful. Although we do not realize this, but by setting that mark it is giving the slackers something to aim for even though they never seem to compete for anything. This means that by having an environment that is willing to push even the slackers in school shows that they to can have something to compete for in the future. The environment of students plays an important role in helping students compete to become better. We tend to see better scores from students in private schools rather than students in public schools, this is because students are pushed harder in private schools and are competing to be the best because they know that if they start to fall behind they will be left in the dust. These students become the slackers. Problems start to form when the parents of the slackers start to shelter them and say that competing is not that important. Young adults are smart and they see this as an opportunity to use their parents. When reading Katherine S. Newman, The Accordion Family: Boomerang Kids, Anxious Parents, and the Private Toll of Global Competition we find it interesting when she brings up the topic on how Adult children are migrating home or refraining from leaving in the first place, and there they stay for many years longer. Amino acids are the chemical units of proteins and are considered to be the building blocks of life. They are important in almost every function a cell does within itself and the entire organism. Blood circulates through our entire bodies which means the proteins in our blood have reflected everything that is happening in the human body. This means an infection in a person s foot, can be seen through the proteins in blood drawn from the arm. The potential power of proteomics is mind blowing. With proteomics, doctors can find any disease, disorder, or any other problem just by examining a single drop of blood. Instead of running dozens of different tests to find out what is wrong with someone, all a doctor has to do is draw the patient s blood, send it to the lab, and wait for the results (Agus 110 112). African people are seen as very religious and did not worship inert object. Traditional healing started a long time ago when our forefather used to get information through the dreams when there is something that was going to happen in the family. This practice passes on from generation to generation. It is impossible to become a traditional healer and in the family tree, there was never such. One cannot become a Sangoma unless he or she has a calling from the ancestors and there must be one Sangoma in their lineage. Long ago, during the 1900s, assimilation was considered to be crucial in order for a naturalization process to occur. Immigrants were forced to assimilate and adopt to the American culture, in which they had never been introduced to before. Over time, things evolved and changed to the point where people began to assimilate to a certain point, but still have their cultural traditions, giving America a nickname known as the Melting Pot. According to Steve Bressert, a doctor in philosophy, ASD is: Acute Stress Disorder is characterized by the development of severe anxiety, dissociative, and other symptoms that occurs within one month after exposure to an extreme traumatic stressor (e.g., witnessing a death or serious accident). ASD in Adults It is known that 80% of adults in the United States have experienced trauma at least once in their lives. I simply cannot imagine an adult going through this, but it must be more difficult for children to overcome it. It is not common for older adults to develop ASD, as they have most likely learned how to cope with stressful events. Experiencing a traumatic event at a young age can most likely lead to developing ASD in adulthood. ASD in adulthood can easily develop into a more complex psychological disorder known as PTSD. A treatment that can help adults is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which can reduce the trauma. This treatment is usually used and is more effective in children rather than adults. Another type of treatment is Eye Movement Desensitisation and reprocessing, (EMDR). EMDR is a type of therapy treatment that can help people recover from their emotional distress in life. This type of therapy has been proven to be very effective in most cases, and is still used. There are valid points on both sides of the argument, but there is one side I find to be more valid once the facts have been looked at. The International Whaling Commission (IWC) In 1946 a group of 15 nations gathered together to sign a treaty aimed at conserving the whale population following their strong concern regarding the over hunting of whales. This species is endangered due to population fragmentation and isolation, dam building, and many other human causes. In addition, habitat loss is one of the biggest problems because this organism has such specific habitat requirements. This species lives in a freshwater ecosystem and now, large populations can only be found in 4 streams. On the other hand, these human induced problems can be remedied with a few restrictions, support, and a little effort. The scientific name of this organism is Fisherola Nuttalli. The Columbia River Limpet is a small lunged (pulmonate) snail.
