Elder Interview
General Appearance
Normal Signs of Aging Mrs. L is a 64 year old female Caucasian who lives in West Texas. Her hair is
naturally gray, but she dyes it, and appears thin and evenly distributed on her head. There are no signs
of baldness but her hair is thinning. Tabloski (2006) states the hair of a older person looks gray or
white due to a decrease in the number of functioning melanocytes and the replacement of pigmented
strands of hair with non pigmented ones (p. 335). Mrs. L s skin is thin and pale in color. No other parts
of her body were visible. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
L was married for 20 years. She has 2 daughters; one is going to school and the other lives in Texas.
Her mother has been living with her for 3 ½ years. She enjoys movies, having coffee with her friends
once a week, and her two grandchildren. She is active in her church, and used to do prison ministry.
She works in Gerontology at the Health Sciences Center and has been a Tech employee for 25 years.
Current Medications Mrs. L stated that she takes Baby Aspirin daily, two Vitoran pills for blood
pressure, pills for high cholesterol, fish oil, and extra Vitamin B. She did not mention any adverse
effects the medications had on her.
Health Promotional Activities
Use of Exercise Mrs. L stated that she likes to take walks at least 3 to 4 times a week. Her back
problems affect her ability to do a wide range of exercises.
Use of Relaxation Techniques Mrs. L stated that she enjoys coffee or sharing with friends. She does
not do many of the things she used to do since her mother moved in with her. She likes to cross stitch
and listen to music. She said that doing all these things helped her to relax.
Current Immunizations Mrs. L stated that she has had her current pneumonia and shingles
immunizations. She has also had her flu shot for the year. For the prevention of pneumonia and
influenza, it is recommended that older persons receive an influenza vaccination yearly and a
pneumococcal immunization every 10 years (Tabloski, 2006, p. 508).

The Intersex Documentary Me My Sex And I
Kevin Grullon
3/27/17
Essay 2
Human Behavior in Perspective Intersex is the general concept used for a variety conditions in which
an individual is born with genitals, or a reproductive system, that does not fit the typical sexual
anatomy of a male or female. The measurement of this norm, is considered as Phall O Metrics , which
decides what is the right size of a male or female s genitalia at birth by a scale of 0 5 centimeters.
Although there might be constraints to deciding whether the individual at birth is a male or female, I
believe that surgery to overcome intersexual conditions of a newborn, or even a premature child,
should be decided by the individual once they grow and develop to the appropriate age, possibly at
around of 18 25 years of age. In concern of moral rights, the own individual should have the personal
opinion or say over the doctors or parents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once a child is born with divergent genitals, whether it is a clitoris or penis that doesn t fit the Phall O
Metrics , or genitals that do not look of a male or female with certainty, doctors will often suggest
performing surgery of the genitalia during the infancy of the person to make the genitals fit the
standards of a male or a female. These surgeries might be considered a possibility by doctors and
parents because normally they can be fearful of the appearance of irregular genitals. Also, doctors and
parents also believe that making the gonads appear more typical will prevent the intersex individual
from facing a gender

Solar Energy Industry Indi Problems And Prospects
Abstract
To meet demand supply gap in the energy sector of India has led Government to tap solar energy that
is sufficient to meet the annual demand of residential, agriculture and residential purposes. Solar
energy sector is driven by demand and supply side factors, and it has the excellent chance to be World
leader in this area if it tackles its challenges efficiently. Government can focus on establishing mini
grids to cater the needs of remote regions, implementation of renewable energy certificates, carbon
trading and supporting more entrepreneurs to boost the growth of solar energy sector in India.

Solar Energy industry in India: Problems and Prospects
As per November 2014, India has a total installed power capacity of 255,012 MW. 59% generated
from coal based power plants like Neyveli Lignite Corporation (TN), Singrauli Super Power Station
(UP). 17% produced from Hydel power projects like Sutlej dam, Bhakra Nangal project, etc. 12%
from renewable energy resources like biomass, solar and remaining from nuclear and natural gas. Due
to fast depletion of non renewable fossil fuels like coal most of the countries are shifting towards
renewable energy resources like Solar, the Wind and Hydel power projects.
India has been consistently a power shortage nation with demand and supply gap of 12% of the total
energy demand. With its proximity to the equator, India has a potential of generating 1900 billion units
of solar power annually. Solar

A Note On The Blue Lines
Two blue lines. I knew then that I was pregnant. After being told I couldn t have kids and tying for
three years. This was a blessing or two. I was happy and scared. Now to tell family and friends the
news. How would they act, happy, mad, over joyed. These was no telling. As a new mother I wanted
everything to be perfect. Always in back of my mind was to have a healthy and safe pregnancy and
baby. But with my history I was considered high risk. It was my 23rd birthday, my first ultrasound. It
was finally time to see my baby and to find out what I was having. My heart was pounding and my
nerves unsettling. Finally the nurse comes in the room. She puts the camera on the right side of my
stomach, and I see my baby. She moves the camera to the left side, I see the baby again. Thinking to
myself wow that baby moved fast. But then she moved the camera to the middle of my stomach, my
heart went from barely pounding to about to beat out my chest. I was having twins, they were laying
on top of each other like the Ying yang sign. Now the real journey begins. I was working and visiting
the doctor every two weeks. One week was just to check my weight, blood pressure, checking babies,
heart rates, and measuring my stomach. The other was an ultrasound to check on babies and to check
me. I was happy that I got to see my babies once a month. Everything was going well the first 7 ½
months. The babies were growing and their heart rates good and strong. I was getting bigger,

Interventions Throughout The Stages Of Labor

Interventions throughout the Stages of Labor

Introduction
Providing Comfort Measures
A scientific definition of pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with
actual or potential tissue damage (Lowe, 2002). Labor pain, has many different variables, physical as
well as its interaction with culture and emotions, making labor pain exclusive to each individual.
During the first stage of labor there is mostly visceral pain due to the dilation of the cervix. Uterine
contractions may be felt as back pain because the lower back has nerves that connect to the uterus as
well as the skin of the lower back. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These nonpharmacologic comfort measures work by providing distraction during uterine contraction.
According to the gate control theory of pain, only a limited number of sensations can travel along
neural pathways at any one time, so when activities fill the pathway, pain is being inhibited . (Leifer,
2012)
Pharmacological comfort measures can provide partial or complete pain relief. The epidural is the
most efficient way of reducing labor pain. Opioids can be given continuously or in intermittent doses
at the patient s request or through the patient controlled pump. There is the potential for these drugs to
have some effect on the fetus, such as breathing difficulties that may require assistance through the
use of Narcan. Providing pain relief during the labor process is solely the patient s choice, and as the
nurse only support and encouragement should be given for however she chooses to handle the pain.
(Jansen, Gibson, Bowles, Leach, 2013)
The nurse must be mindful of each intervention initiated and the possible benefits of the intervention
against its potential harmful effects for both mother and fetus. Not providing basic comfort measures
for the mother can cause serious physical and emotional problems and could lead to possible fatigue
and feelings of failure from the mother. The priority of this nursing intervention is to provide the
mother and fetus with the least discomfort as possible and

Projectile Energy And Momentum Lab Report
Analysis and Results:
In the previous experiment, the range of a projectile shot at an angle was predicted by calculating the
launch speed along the horizontal. Building on this idea, this experiment sought to predict the range of
a projectile along the horizontal by determining the initial velocity at which the ball was being
launched using a ballistic pendulum. The concepts of conservation of energy and momentum were
used to calculate the initial velocity.
In the first part of this experiment, the velocity at which the ball was launched had to be determined. A
ball of mass m was launched from a projectile launcher set at short, medium, or long range strength.
The ball was launched five times at every setting. When the ball came out of the ... Show more content

A table was used to represent the data because there were, but very important data points to observe.
No statistical tests were conducted.
Conclusions:
In order to assess the accuracy of the predicted medium range, a circle using the mouth of Solo cup
was drawn on the carbon paper. Only Trial 3, as seen in Table 1, landed within this circle. The first
two trials were very close to landing within said circle, but were slightly off. There could have been a
few sources of errors. One very easy mistake was poor positioning of both the circle on the carbon
paper, and the carbon paper on the floor. Along those same lines, poor angle alignment between the
projectile launcher and the carbon paper resulted in slight deviations from the circle. Furthermore, the
projectile launcher was not clamped down, and could have been moved ever so slightly to affect the
trajectory of the ball. Another source of error could be attributed to slight errors in measurements.
Meter sticks are a strong and reliable measuring tool, but has serious limitations when the surfaces are
not all even. Human error could have also affected the results, as bad judgment in linear alignment
could have resulted in less accurate results. Overall, the average observed range was an acceptable

The Presidential Election Of 1828
It s been proven that campaigns can get dirty and grimy. In the fight for voters, candidates will put on
some of the most outrageous acts to destroy each other. The respect for each other is nonexistent. With
mudslinging, it gives political candidates the opportunity to assassinate the other candidate s character,
dig up candidates unethical past history, and scrutinize their political views. Mudslinging and dirty
politics has not only been a fad of modern day campaigning, but is known to exist as early as the 1800
s presidential election. The elections most known for its dirty politics and mudslinging in the 1800 s
were the election of 1828 and the election of 1840. The election of 1828 is said to be the rematch of
the 1824 election ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the time the presidency was revealed, there was more offensive mudslinging circulating around
about each candidate s character, past history, and political views than any other presidential election
ever. For example, Jackson s marriage to Rachel was so heavily scrutinized by Adams campaign, that
Jackson believed it was the cause of her death. When Jackson was married to his wife, Rachel, they
were under the assumption that she was divorced. However, her divorce from her previous marriage
was not yet finalized, in which it caused them to remarry once the legal papers were completed
(Boundless 15). Jackson was accused of committing adultery by Adams campaign and his wife was
even labeled as a whore. Andrew Jackson was known for his military background and the battles he
fought in, but even that were scrutinized by Adams campaign. The National Republican Party used
Jackson s allegations about the court martial of U.S. troops and ordering the execution of some
Soldiers who went absent without leave (AWOL). They also attacked Jackson for killing innocent
Indians and adapting a habit of dueling. The killing of the Soldiers was known as the Coffin Handbill ,
which they called General Andrew Jackson a murderer. John Adams was no saint to the supporters of
Andrew Jackson as they came prepared with their sleeves rolled up to fight back with their dirty
political tricks. The

Some very interesting questions come to mind and we will be discussing them at length. The questions
are: Why did Monique Mandy fail to launch a new innovation in Tanzania? What effect did country
and market conditions have on this? What is the importance of social capital and networks in
entrepreneurship? Did Monique learn out of this failure? What would she do or avoid next time?
Without discussing and address these questions, this paper would not have properly analyzed the

THE MAIN REPORT
The Company Adesemi
Adesemi, an American start up in Africa, had been trying for six years to blanket the developing world
with desperately needed wireless communications services. It had raised more than $15 million in
venture capital and launched the world s first fully integrated virtual phone system which incorporated
voice mail, pagers, and hundreds of pay phones in one of its poorest countries, Tanzania. Then
Adesemi crashed to earth, leaving its founder, Monique Maddy, with a company that was a shadow of
the powerhouse she had envisioned. The company s demise was personally and financially devastating
to Maddy, a Liberian born entrepreneur who grew up wanting to work for the United Nations and who
ultimately trained at Harvard Business School . According to Maddy Monique My

The Decline Of Civility Within The Workplace
The question was asked, Do manners matter? The Golden Rule states: do to others what you would
want them to do to you. The decline of civility in the workplace has been on the rise. Morals are still
at the conclusion that this isn t at any value of importance (Martin). Society assumes that one is born
with etiquettes and not taught. Judith Martin states that the Original Innocence is the idea that people
are born naturally good but corrupted by civilization (Martin). According to the Merriam Webster
dictionary, the definition of civility is polite, reasonable, and respectful behavior. Incivility is an issue
for many. Researcher Jeannie Trudel of Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion says that Seventy five
percent to eighty percent of people have experienced incivility (Mattice). Employees, bosses, and even
family members are affected by one s reaction to incivility. The lack of discipline and the absences of
manners is slowly creating a problem in today s work society due to need of communication (Martin).
Today s work society has targeted hate for one another. It is typically causing many to regret their
choice of profession; constantly, dreading the idea to perform to the expected. If we are going to
eliminate the cause of rude behavior and the effect of rude behavior in the workplace, each company
should evaluate their policy s, discuss proper expectations, and provide trainings. The cause of uncivil
actions can take a dramatic toll on any workplace.

The Fight Between Male And Female Manager
Regardless of the amount we adore our jobs, the greater part of us can hardly wait to get past the work
week. Also, at times no measure of coffee can wake us up or propel us to complete our assignments
before the end of the day. In any case, on the off chance that you have a female manager, then risks are
you might find that additional inspiration to build your efficiency.
In the fight between a male versus female manager, you may expect that a male supervisor may be
superior at running the show, since guys are frequently seen as natural born leaders. Individuals who
act in ways that are incongruent with their sex role tend to be evaluated negatively (Eagly and Karau,
2002). This incongruity can create problems for female managers because characteristics necessary to
be a successful leader are more frequently associated with the male gender role (Elsesser and Lever,
2014). In the United States today, females from one perspective are commended as having the right
blend of abilities for initiative, yielding unrivaled leadership styles and extraordinary efficiency. Then
again, there seems, by all accounts, to be across the board acknowledgment that ladies regularly come
in second to men in rivalries to achieve leadership positions. Females are still depicted as struggling
for access to leadership positions and in addition prejudice and resistance when they occupy these
roles.
If you have a particular sexual orientation inclination for your optimal manager or boss, you may be

Rhetorical Devices In Julius Caesar s Speech
In Shakespeare s play of Julius Caesar, Rhetoric is the art of convincing and persuading people by
language through public speaking which is used in Julius Caesar s speeches. These devices are used in
Brutus and Antony statements throughout the play. Brutus is a conspirator who kills Caesar since he
fears that he will have too much power over Rome and its people. In comparison, Marc Antony is the
closest friend and most trusted to Caesar, who persuades the people of Rome against Conspirators for
killing Caesar. (Thesis statement) Brutus appeals to logic when he explains his actions in Caesar
funeral, where as Antony appeals to emotions, playing with the audience feelings to seek justice upon
the conspirators. Brutus gives a speech to the people of Rome to explain his reasoning in killing
Caesar by using logic. He claims that he killed Caesar because he loves Rome and fears for well being
of the people since Caesar was an ambitious man. Brutus expresses feelings by saying Had you rather
have Caesar were living, and die all slaves/ than that Caesar were dead to live all free men? (III.I.175).
Brutus uses rhetorical questions to make a point to the audience of saying that Rome is better without
Caesar because Caesar if he was alive they would all be slaves since Caesar would have ultimate
power and control. Brutus showing facts to the people of Rome, Brutus s argument becomes
influential to win over the audience. Throughout his Aboelfoul|2 speech, he calls Caesar ambitious

Myths Of The Knife
The knife is one of the oldest tools used by humanity so it should come as no surprise that there are
almost as many myths about knives as there are types of knives. These myths are not just some old
folk tales told around a camp fire but myths that are actually thought to be true in the present day time.
There are myths about how to care for knives and myths about how to use them. They all have
something that sticks in the mind or they would not have lasted long enough to become myths. Any
buyer looking to purchase knives should know why these myths are false so that you can make wise
buying decisions when purchasing your very own knife.
Myth 1: Some Knives don t need to be sharpened
Some manufacturers give absurd claims that their knives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When you get injured by a knife, it means you got cut buy it in some form or another. Thinking like
this would mean that knife that does not cut well is less likely to injure the user. The problem with this
thinking is that dull knives require more force to actually complete the cutting action, which in turn
makes the user more likely to lose control and accidentally injure themselves because the knife went
somewhere it should not have gone.
Myth 3: Harder Blades Stay Sharp Longer
While hardness definitely is a factor in how sharp an edge a blade can hold, there is thing as a blade
being too hard. The problem is that blades that are only hard also are brittle and hence prone to
breaking. Brittle blades can easily chip, losing their original edge and so become jagged and dull. If
your blade will last long then it needs to be resilient. Hardness alone is not enough.
Myth 4: Giving a Knife as a Gift Severs Relationships
This is one of the oldest and dumbest knife myths that are still around. The idea behind this thinking is
that because a knife is a cutting implement, giving one to someone means that the giver is cutting the
ties that bind people (them) together. Needless to say, there is no grain of truth to this myth; It is a
perfect example of the kind of magical thinking that symbols can have a direct effect in the real

Wentworth MacDougal directly in the throat with a solid right cross. From there, it only got worse.
Steak broke both of the professor s legs with a high heeled shoe and a two by four he found in a

Lucy Grealy s Autobiography Of A Face
Having the attitude and mental disposition of a child is something heavily mentioned in media. People
crave to see the world with a youthful eye, being able to find joy and laughter in the worst of
situations. This view of a child is shown in Lucy Grealy s book Autobiography of a Face. In the
following passage, Lucy describes getting her medical results back as a child and her reaction to her
results. I told them I had a malignancy. My mother said I seemed rather happy about it, and my
teachers were shocked by my attitude. I told my teacher and all of my friends, probably with pride: I
had a malignancy. I was going to have a big operation now (Grealy 43). Her reaction is much
difference than when an adult receives news of a disease. Most grown adults would begin to think of
death, and how their mortality will affect their loved ones. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Lucy did not see it this way. She was excited and wanted to share about her new adventure.
Later in the passage, she mentions that as an adolescent she finally realized that she had cancer. This is
baffling to think of as an adult, who stresses about every term and ailment that they have. Perhaps,
adults should adopt a childlike mentality to life and view life with its hardships as an adventure.
Emerson discusses this idea as well is his essay, Nature. The sun illuminates only the eye of the man,
but shines into the eye and the heart of the child. The lover of nature is he whose inward and outward
senses are still truly adjusted to each other; who has retained the spirt of infancy even into the era of
manhood (Emerson 183). This lover of nature, has reclaimed that childhood innocence. This thought
brings up some valid questions. If one is to have a childlike view on life, are they choosing to

Gender Issues in Washington Irving s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
At first glance, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving seems to be an innocent tale
about a superstitious New England town threatened by a strange new comer, Icabod Crane. However,
this descriptive narrative is more than just a simple tale because it addresses several gender issues that
deserve attention. The pervasiveness of female influence in Sleepy Hollow and the conflict between
male and female storytelling in this Dutch community are two pertinent gender issues that complicate
Irving s work and ultimately enable the women of Sleepy Hollow to control the men and maintain
order.

Rather, we are left with a sense of relief at Crane s removal from Sleepy Hollow. Thus the tale
presents a stark contrast to Rip Van Winkle. In that story, women attempt and fail to confront men
openly; in Sleepy Hollow, female behavior is much more subversive and effective.
Female behavior in Sleepy Hollow is a result of its feminine setting. Irving s tale preserves the
maintenance of the feminine and the landscape is described as having maternal characteristics. For
example, Sleepy Hollow lies in the bosom of a cove lining the Hudson (Irving 948), and the valley is
embosomed in the great state of New York (Irving 950). Clearly the repose and security of Sleepy
Hollow rest in the maternal landscape an assumption so pervasive that even our male narrator attests
to it. For as he observes, the act of naming falls to women in this Dutch village. For example, The
good house wives of the adjacent country, from the inveterate propensity of their husbands to linger
about the village tavern on market days, have named the nearby rural port Tarry Town (Irving 948).
The name and power of naming thus operates as a gently sarcastic means of reproaching unruly
husbands and of preserving female dominance over the Hollow.
In the beginning of the tale Irving describes the narrator as

Describe How Several Ways Mineral Crystals Can Form
1. What is a mineral, as geologists understand the term? How is this definition different from the
everyday usage of the word?
To a geologist, a mineral is naturally occurring solid, formed by geologic processes that have a
crystalline structure and a definable chemical composition. Its internal structure characterized by an
orderly arrangement of atoms, ions, or molecules in a crystalline lattice. Almost all minerals are
inorganic, for instance, sugar is an organic chemical in which is made by carbon, hydrogen, and
oxygen that it is not a mineral.
2. Why is glass not a mineral?
A glass isn t a mineral because crystalline structure in which the atoms make up a mineral aren t
distributed randomly and cannot move around easily, and the atoms in a glass aren t arranged in an

Student ID: 129382236
Programme: International Marketing
Introduction
This essay will attempt to describe and explain how organizations use branding theory and practice to
help develop, establish and maintain their positions in both existing and potential markets. To do so it
will be structured into four chapters that will be supported by examples:
1. What is a brand and why they matter.
2. How to develop a brand.
3. How to establish and maintain a brand.
4. How to develop establish and maintain brands in existing and potential markets.
What is a brand and why they matter
What is a brand? According to the American Marketing Association (AMA) a brand is a name, term,
sign, symbol, or design, or a combination of them, intended to identify the goods and services of one
seller or group of sellers and to differentiate them from those of competition (AMA, 2004). These
identifiable elements are called brand elements.
According to Robert Scott, author of Fighting the brand wars, a brand is any name, logo, phrase, or
slogan that sticks with the public and evokes a particular product or service (Scott, 2002).
Brands evolve and over time they have become part of our everyday life and have left the traditional
notion of being what represented a company or product name. From the 1366 Stella Artois logo that is
still being used to the 2004 action camera GoPro that uses its customers as branding ambassadors all

Essay On Mark Twain
Mark Twain once stated, Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow mindedness. This quote
should let us all know how much travel actually meant to him. In his life, he did a lot of traveling and
exploring. From a newspaper apprentice to a pilot Mark Twain lived a rather adventurous life .
First, most people think that your childhood can have a pleasant or unpleasant effect on your
adulthood. Mark Twain was born Samuel Clemens on November 30, 1835 in the frontier village of
Florida, Missouri ( Mark Twain Biography.com ). He spent his boyhood in nearby Hannibal, on the
bank of the Mississippi River, observing its busy life, fascinated by its romance, but chilled by the
violence and bloodshed it bred.(28 Cox) During his childhood he became exposed to slavery, at one
point he actually discovered a body of a drowned slave. At 12, Twain would actually have to drop out
of school due to the sudden death of his father John Clemens; he would become a young apprentice (
MarkTwainBiograpgy.com ). Twain wasn t even a teen and basically had to become the man of the
house not by choice but basically by force, this more than likely made Twain the hard worker that he
was.
Next, one could say you should treat every job as if it is actually your career, as if you would be doing
it for the rest of your life. Mark Twain had several different jobs. He began work as an apprentice then
a compositor with local printers, contributing occasional squibs.(125 MacArthur) At 17 his comic

Killer Angels Essay
The Killer Angels
The Battle of Gettysburg brought the dueling North and South together to the small town of
Gettysburg and on the threshold of splitting the Union. Gettysburg was as close as the United States
got to Armageddon and The Killer Angels gives the full day to day account of the battle that shaped
America s future. Michael Shaara tells the story of the Battle of Gettysburg through the eyes of the
generals and men involved in the action of the battle. The historical account of the Battle of
Gettysburg gives the reader a chance to experience the battle personally and not the history book
manner taught in schools. A historical novel gives the facts straightforward and provides no

Shaara, through his commentary on General Lee, explains that Lee did not want to fight the war but
had to. Lee felt it was his duty to fight for his fellow countrymen, but not for a cause, land, or slavery.
So it was no cause and no country he fought for, no ideal and no justice. He fought for his people, for
the children, and the kin, and not even the land, because the land was worth the war, but the people
were, General Lee says (Shaara 263). General Lee fights for himself and has no choice but to fight,
knowing in the end that he might be wrong with his cause and pay the price someday. General Lee is
not a proponent of war, but he will serve his country with honor and duty if necessary.
A man of ideals and honor represent the character of Union Colonel Joshua Chamberlain. Being a man
of education, Chamberlain knows the demeaning and repulsive nature of slavery and has come to fight
to end it. Chamberlain hates the whole idea of the Civil War and the death and destruction that goes
along with it. I used my brother to plug a hole. Did it automatically as if he were expendable, says
Chamberlain (Shaara 304). He hates the idea that men, including his brother, are dying out in the fight
for slavery. The only reason he believes in the Civil War is that if he the North did not fight freedom
would be tarnished and a great travesty would occur. Chamberlain is not a man of war and blood and
doesn t relish war and its qualities. The idea of war in general to

early years. Beginning school is a major life transition for children and their families with some
children taking this transition in their stride, yet others seeing it as a period of anxiety, uncertainty and

Philosophy Vs Religion Research Paper
Reading a chapter from a book based on how philosophy differs from science and religion. In a way it
does not, they are really the same. They just use different terminology in how they discipline is
expressed. For example, the scientific method is how the scientist comes to a conclusion, just how
philosophers ask certain questions to prove their debates or theories. Religion, on the other hand, is
more closely related to philosophy because both deal with beliefs and faith base systems.
In the early days of philosophy, philosophers like galileo, Socrates, and Plato were they early scientist
of their day. Philosophy and science differ in many aspects. Science more based on morality. When
scientists take on a scientific endeavor their interest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Religion, on the other hand, looks at philosophy as it prodigy and also its own personal antagonist.
Religion is more about should searching, and not empirical investigations. if someone wants to know
more about god, there most meaningful insight will come through prayer, meditation, and self
revelation. Science cannot deal with the idea of incarnation that god became Jesus, and philosophy has
yet to debate it. Science and philosophy can t deal with the methods of religious issues. Religion,
however, possess the answer to understanding the reality of philosophy and science.
Philosophy and religion do have something in common that neither has a method for searching out
god. Both disciplines are cognitive endeavors in how they reach their end goal. Through the existence
of man philosophy, science, and religion have changed through the centuries. We can t be blinded by

School counselors should be able to distinguish the differences between individual and group
dissimilarities and strive to value all students and groups equally. They should advocate for the
equitable treatment of all students in their school and in their community. If a school counselor wants
to be successful in ensuring an equity based program, they should consider the role of culture,
ethnicity, race, gender, religion, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and other factors (Curry

It is imperative the school counselors develop a culture of equity in their school, and that their
counseling program reflects this philosophy. This paper will analyze four inequity scenarios that were
shown in the video: Equity Focused School Counseling, and the role that a counselor can take to close
these inequity gaps.
The education of students with disabilities in school s today is being shaped by two laws: the
Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA) and the Elementary and
Secondary Education Act (ESEA) which is also known as the No Child Left Behind Act (McLaughlin,
2010). These laws were enacted to protect students with disabilities against inequity due to their
disabilities, and allows for accommodations to their daily class curriculum. In the video Equity
Focused School Counseling, Stuart Chen Hayes discusses with administration his concerns that
students with disabilities have come in discussing the same issues and wondered if he could teach
these students as a group. Group therapy allows for a safe and confidential environment where
members can work on problems they are facing as well as hearing different perspectives. Group
members can enhance their self awareness that can lead to relationship building. Social competence is

Emily Dickinson Punctuation

Dickinson s Riddle
Emily Dickinson died before her works were attempted to be analyzed and interpreted, suggesting
perhaps that the mysteries, abstractions, and double meanings were for her own enjoyment, and all
answers if there were any died with her ( Explanation ). Glimpsing at just a few of Dickinson s poems
is sure to catch the eye of a reader, posing questions of grammatical soundness. Capital letters, dots,
and dashes appear consistently, but maybe there is a reason behind it all. Emily Dickinson uses
punctuation in a non traditional way throughout her poems, contributing to the effect and meaning of
her works, such as My Life had stooda Loaded Gun, After great pain, a formal feeling comes,
and Wild NightsWild Nights!
Emily Dickinson employs commonly used punctuation marks in an uncommon way, riddling many of
her poems. Emily Dickinson s poems, like inlay, tend to be made of splinters of thought and sight,
often brilliant fragments, held together by a mosaic sense of pattern, joined irregularly by dashes
(Wilner). Although dashes appear the most, some works also contain explanation marks. Exclamation
marks in Dickinson s poems suggest strong feeling in her thoughts, interjecting passion and
excitement throughout. The punctuation used by the author enhances her works and helps to draw in
her audience.
Dickinson s My Life had stood a Loaded Gun contains en dashes from beginning to end, giving

Misconceptions Of Color Blindness
RESEARCH BLOG ENCHROMA GLASSES:
We all have different ways of perceiving the world. Going back 3 years most of you may remember
the big debate of the blue and black or white and gold dress. To some of us distant objects may look
blurry, to others near objects. Others may see everything blurry! However, most people with these
common conditions can either have surgery or wear glasses. The condition I would like to approach
however, is one where it is not something that is physically wrong with the eye and so it has no cure .
The technology I have chosen to share with you targets at a group of people who have trouble with
colours. We call this condition colour blindness. Colour blindness? Maybe that s not the right word for
it...
One of the most common misconceptions about colour blindness (also known as colour vision
deficiency) is that people with this condition are completely blind to colour. That is, they see the world
in black and white... Luckily, this is a very rare type of colour blindness, affecting 1 in 40,000 people.
There are in fact various types of colour deficiency caused by different mutations, but my chosen
technology targets at the red green type.
Before diving into how humans detect and interpret colour, let us start from the basics. Light can be
thought of as either a wave or a particle. When thinking of light as a particle, we say it is made of
photons . Each photon is related to a certain wavelength depending on how much energy it has.

Bigfoot Dna Primers
In order to stack the DNA together, scientists use what is known as a primer. The primer s basic
function is to gather like strands of DNA together and stack them so it is easier to see the DNA
sequence or amplify the sequence. In the early days of DNA testing, primers were designed for
individual species and even subspecies within a family of organisms. For example, primers were
developed for humans, bears, dogs, cats, pigs, cattle, etc. If you were trying to identify unknown DNA
you would use the primer for the individual species on the sample. If the primer found and stacked the
DNA together or amplified the DNA, then you knew you had this species. If nothing was amplified,
then you knew you did not have this particular species. These ... Show more content on

Can a pathologist, after being discredited get off virtually free from his life destroying mistakes? Dr.
Charles Smith is certainly making it clear that, the penalties are far from just. Dr. Smith was formally
known to be one of Canada s best in, forensic child pathology. He practiced at SickKids in Toronto
and conducted more than 1000 autopsies. Dr. Charles Smith conducted the autopsy on Brenda Waudby
s 21 month old daughter which resulted with, Brenda being charged with second degree murder in
1997. In 2006, however, the baby sitter who was looking after the child pleaded guilty to

of Physicians and Surgeons stripped Dr. Charles Smith of his certificate to practice, the doctor has not

year he may be able to reapply to be certified in another province.
In Brenda Waudby s case, her 21 month old daughter was left care of a baby sitter aged 14. That night
her daughter died in the hospital a pubic hair was found in her groin area, however that pubic hair was
later lost. In 1997 following the autopsy Dr. Smith concluded that the child suffered abdominal trauma
whilst in the care of her mother. The crown withdrew the case concluding that the injuries occurred
when the child was not under Mrs. Waudby s care. Five years following, the pubic hair that had
disappeared was found in Dr. Smith s office by authorities. Dr. Smith had previously testified that he
knew nothing about the pubic hair. In 2006 the baby sitter who watched the daughter pleaded guilty

though, no charges of sexual assault were laid due to lack of evidence. In 2006 Brenda Waudby filed a

Privacy is a major problem these days. Cheaper memory has led to immense amount of data
continuously being accumulated in various databases across the world, from universities, companies

book and movie ratings, etc. and there are many socially valuable uses to which it can potentially be

Such a method is highly applicative for a wide variety of applications, be it Netflix or Twitter data to
be analyzed by a Data Scientist. An adversarial querier could not, for instance, obtain an accurate
answer to the query Has John followed Mark? because the cost of such a query would exceed any
reasonable privacy budget.
Even though everything seems fine till now, the adversary can still attack the user s data. This is
because we have assumed that all that the adversary can notice is the output of the query. However,
the adversary can also notice the time taken for the system to reply to the query. Such observations can
be exploited to mount a covert channel attack. To continue with our earlier example, the adversary
might run a query that always re turns zero as its result but that takes one hour to complete if John Doe
follows Mark and less than a second otherwise. Both Airavat and PINQ would consider such a system
to be secure since the output is differentially private. However, the adversary can still learn with
perfect certainty whether John follows Mark a blatant violation of differential privacy.
Fortunately, the user s access to the database only via queries leads to channels like power
consumption [9] and electromagnetic radiation [5, 8] being ruled out, henceforth, leaving the
adversary with just two channels: the privacy budget and the query completion time. These

Women And Men In Conversation By Deborah Tannen
From You just don t understand: Women and men in conversation , Deborah Tannen shows the gender
differences in conversation. The main idea is that women value relationship and empathy within a
group, while men are struggling to raise their status and class. According to Deborah Tannen, this
affects how they think and speak. Generally, men talk more in a public situation, while women talk
more in private settings. Most women tend to use rapport talk for conversation, a way of establishing
connections and negotiating relationships, whereas most men tend to use report talk, a way of
preserving independence and maintain status in hierarchical social order (Deborah Tannen, You just
don t understand: Women and men in conversation) There are different understandings between
gender about what conversation is for. To him, talk is information, which is used to inform what he
needs to know or what he wants other to know. To her, however, talk is for interaction, a way to show
involvement, whereas listening is a way of caring. Therefore, in public events, men are more
comfortable to claim attention with this understanding of talking. ... Show more content on

The researchers focused on groups that are at a higher risk for obesity; Hispanic and African American
4th and 5th graders, and their engagement in physical activity. Studies have shown that emotions
following an acute bout of physical activity are predictive of...participation up to a year in healthy,
sedentary adults (Lochbaum Stevenson, 2014, p. 202). The task was to dribble a basketball with
different goals set by the examiners. These goals were mastery, performance approach and
performance avoidance. After the task was completed four emotions: pride, frustration, shame and
success were assessed. A mastery goal is defined as learning a task to improve ones self while the
performance approach is based on trying to outperform others (Darnon et al., 2007). However,
performance avoidance is the need to avoid performing more poorly than others (Darnon et al., 2007).
Under the mastery goal, children were asked to see how well they could dribble the ball. While the
performance goal conditions was to dribble the ball and compare the quality to children in another
city. Both performance groups were told they would be video taped, however the avoidance group was
told their errors would be pointed out and shown to other city students.

Dos Equis Commercial Analysis
In the Dos Equis commercial featuring The Most Interesting Man in the World , advertisers present the
ideal Masculine image as suave, successful, refined, wise, fearless, well traveled, and as the most
noteworthy over others. This is expressed through his character of various attributes, unique locations,
the audience of onlookers, and unconventional stories that define the subject of interest.
When presented with the character of The Most Interesting Man in the World in the commercial,
masculinity is defined as suave, refined, and successful through one s physical presentation. His calm
demeanor paired with fine clothes show selective taste and knowledge of high class attire. The man is
always collected in luxury articles to which various backdrops complement his style. He almost
exclusively adorns a suit of fine quality. Collectively, this presents that the ideal nature of masculinity
lies in suave and refined choice of clothing and conclusive attitude to one s surroundings.
Alternatively, masculinity is also shown to be suave, refined, and successful through the man s social
presentation. His overall direct nature make him the center of attention. Furthermore, he sports a
carefree attitude throughout the vast majority of the advertisement. It is clear that he is always in ...

accounts. The existence of such an abundance of stories only cements him a man of great stature.

The Czech Republic As We Know It
The current Czech Republic as we know it, was established in January of 1993 when Czechoslovakia
split into two independent countries. The peaceful separation created the Czech Republic and an
independent Slovakia. The history the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the once Czechoslovakia is rich
and full of turmoil.
History
The indigenous population of Czechoslovakia were the Slavic tribes. These tribes were made up of
West Slavs tribes who were the Poles, the Czechs and the Slovaks. The East Slavs tribes consisted of
Russians, Ukrainians and Belarusian s. The South Slavs tribes consisted of Bulgarians, Croats,
Macedonians Serbs and Slovenians. In 550 BC the Slavs began settling in the eastern Alps and by 800
BC Christianity was spreading across the Slovene lands. In 962 the Holy Roman Empire was
established and in 1085 Vrastislav II became the first Czech king which started the Premyslid dynasty.
The Premyslid dynasty ended with the death of King Wenceslas III in 1306. In 1414 Jan Hus, an
outspoken Czech, started speaking out against the corruption in the Catholic Church. Jan would
conduct sermons in Czech so the regular citizens could understand the message. Unfortunately Jan
was to outspoken and was burnt at the stake one year later in the year 1415. The Hussite Wars
commenced in 1420 and carried on for fourteen years and concluded in 1434. In 1458 the Hussites
elected a Czech Protestant king named George of Podebrady. The Hapsburg Dynasty ruled the lands

How Is Hagar Shipley An Unlikeable Character
Pride of Living
It is difficult for the reader to take an objective view of the characters in this novel, particularly Hagar
Shipley, because of the first person nature of the story. Furthermore, it is also impossible not to dislike
Hagar at times because of her detachment from the things that could bring her happiness. Hagar
suffers from dysthymia, she is a victim of relational and social distance. Her past was not in her favor
when contributing to her emotionally distant future.
Hagar is portrayed as an unlikeable character being blinded by pride, and just overly bitter. While she
may not be the hero or the villain (due to this type of story not having a demand of good vs evil) it
does make the story more believable. In real life, there is no black and white when I come to
personalities. Her personality may well be reflected as unpleasant at times but it does not necessarily
make her a bad person. She cannot be described as the antagonist nor protagonist. In many instances,
she displays actions of disapproval towards almost everyone in her life this is frustrating to readers at
times because what is leading her to her unhappiness can easily be solved by a slight change in
character. Hagar is in constant denial of her actions and the consequences that come with it.
Hagar is blind to her own faults. Stubborn and resentful of everyone around her and won t let herself
be happy and yet Hagar is the kind of character you root for, she strives for independence which no

Place is concerned with various methods of transporting and storing goods, and then making them
available for the customer. Getting the right product to the right place at the right time involves the
distribution system. The choice of distribution method will depend on a variety of circumstances. It
will be more convenient for some manufacturers to sell to wholesalers who then sell to retailers, while
others will prefer to sell directly to retailers or customers.
The promotionPromotion is the business of communicating with customers. It will provide
information that will assist them in making a decision to purchase a product or service. The pace and
creativity of some promotional activities are almost alien to normal business activities. The cost
associated with promotion or advertising goods and services often represents a size able proportion of
the overall cost of producing an item. However, successful promotion increases sales so that
advertising and other costs are spread over a larger output. Though increased promotional activity is
often a sign of a response to a problem such as competitive activity, it enables an organization to
develop and build up a succession of messages and can be extremely cost effective.

What is your assessment of Yamada s proposal for the centers of excellence in drug discovery
(CEDD)? What are its strengths and weaknesses relative to other potential organizational structures
for R D?
Overview:
Yamada reorganization of drug discovery at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) following a merger to combat
bureaucracy in decision making, approval, and authorization. This reorganization was necessary for
the continued success of the company. Often the process for drug discovery and market is a slow and
tedious process which can cost a company a lot in resources and financially. The smaller biotech
companies are able to move quicker and push new drugs to market faster. The shift, Yamada thinks, ...

There were areas of artificial barriers in the old system of product development and research. What
Yamada is trying to attempt is to focus the groups into one area, create accountability, and speed up
the process similar to what happens in the small biotech firms. Where Yamada had difficulties was the
performance of the CEDD in the first 18 months, and possibly the buy in from the CEDD leadership.
While some of this is because of bad legacy products from the heritage organizations some was also to
the CEDD leadership leaving the organization. This is not unlike the case study of Kodak and the
leadership backing at new product development. Leadership accountability comes with buy in to the
development process. Lack of defining structure in genetic research and discovery research in this
case.
Strengths:
Harness Talent Allows the research scientist to be vested in the development of new drugs and
compounds. Finical rewards for product success and creation.
Focus development The products are developed by the CEDD and the artificial barriers of product
development lessen or eliminated. Increase the speed at development of compounds and products.
Cost effectiveness Set Budgets for CEDD to operate within and creates incentive to operate efficiently.

The Importance Of Career And Technical Education
Career and technical education, CTE, prepare individuals with the skills needed to efficiently grow
into various high demand careers. Career and technical pathways create a system where students of all
ages can become better prepared for the workforce. Career and technical education is applicable to
college students and adults, but is most commonly embroidered into high school students learning
style. The CTE path involves the grind between academics, technical skills, and work specific
attributes in which each adds onto another to develop a more prepared individual. Provided that career
and technical education has been around for a while, it has proven itself to be an exceptional method
for students to embed into their studies.

The measurement of this norm, is considered as Phall O Metrics , which decides what is the right size of a male or female s genitalia at birth by a scale of 0 5 centimeters. Although there might be constraints to deciding whether the individual at birth is a male or female, I believe that surgery to overcome intersexual conditions of a newborn, or even a premature child, should be decided by the individual once they grow and develop to the appropriate age, possibly at around of 18 25 years of age. Always in back of my mind was to have a healthy and safe pregnancy and baby. But with my history I was considered high risk. It was my 23rd birthday, my first ultrasound. It was finally time to see my baby and to find out what I was having. My heart was pounding and my nerves unsettling. Finally the nurse comes in the room. Interventions Throughout The Stages Of Labor Running head: Interventions throughout the stages of labor Interventions throughout the Stages of Labor Jackie Flooks Nursing 264 August 2, 2015 Introduction Providing Comfort Measures A scientific definition of pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage (Lowe, 2002). Labor pain, has many different variables, physical as well as its interaction with culture and emotions, making labor pain exclusive to each individual. During the first stage of labor there is mostly visceral pain due to the dilation of the cervix. Uterine contractions may be felt as back pain because the lower back has nerves that connect to the uterus as well as the skin of the lower back. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These nonpharmacologic comfort measures work by providing distraction during uterine contraction. According to the gate control theory of pain, only a limited number of sensations can travel along neural pathways at any one time, so when activities fill the pathway, pain is being inhibited . (Leifer, 2012) Pharmacological comfort measures can provide partial or complete pain relief. The epidural is the most efficient way of reducing labor pain. Opioids can be given continuously or in intermittent doses at the patient s request or through the patient controlled pump. There is the potential for these drugs to have some effect on the fetus, such as breathing difficulties that may require assistance through the use of Narcan. Providing pain relief during the labor process is solely the patient s choice, and as the nurse only support and encouragement should be given for however she chooses to handle the pain. (Jansen, Gibson, Bowles, Leach, 2013) The nurse must be mindful of each intervention initiated and the possible benefits of the intervention against its potential harmful effects for both mother and fetus. Not providing basic comfort measures for the mother can cause serious physical and emotional problems and could lead to possible fatigue and feelings of failure from the mother. The priority of this nursing intervention is to provide the mother and fetus with the least discomfort as possible and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Projectile Energy And Momentum Lab Report Analysis and Results: In the previous experiment, the range of a projectile shot at an angle was predicted by calculating the launch speed along the horizontal. Building on this idea, this experiment sought to predict the range of a projectile along the horizontal by determining the initial velocity at which the ball was being launched using a ballistic pendulum. The concepts of conservation of energy and momentum were used to calculate the initial velocity. In the first part of this experiment, the velocity at which the ball was launched had to be determined. A ball of mass m was launched from a projectile launcher set at short, medium, or long range strength. The ball was launched five times at every setting. When the ball came out of the ... Conclusions: In order to assess the accuracy of the predicted medium range, a circle using the mouth of Solo cup was drawn on the carbon paper. Only Trial 3, as seen in Table 1, landed within this circle. The first two trials were very close to landing within said circle, but were slightly off. There could have been a few sources of errors. One very easy mistake was poor positioning of both the circle on the carbon paper, and the carbon paper on the floor. Along those same lines, poor angle alignment between the projectile launcher and the carbon paper resulted in slight deviations from the circle. Furthermore, the projectile launcher was not clamped down, and could have been moved ever so slightly to affect the trajectory of the ball. Another source of error could be attributed to slight errors in measurements. Meter sticks are a strong and reliable measuring tool, but has serious limitations when the surfaces are not all even. Human error could have also affected the results, as bad judgment in linear alignment could have resulted in less accurate results. Overall, the average observed range was an acceptable ... When Jackson was married to his wife, Rachel, they were under the assumption that she was divorced. However, her divorce from her previous marriage was not yet finalized, in which it caused them to remarry once the legal papers were completed (Boundless 15). Jackson was accused of committing adultery by Adams campaign and his wife was even labeled as a whore. Andrew Jackson was known for his military background and the battles he fought in, but even that were scrutinized by Adams campaign. The National Republican Party used Jackson s allegations about the court martial of U.S. troops and ordering the execution of some Soldiers who went absent without leave (AWOL). They also attacked Jackson for killing innocent Indians and adapting a habit of dueling. What effect did country and market conditions have on this? What is the importance of social capital and networks in entrepreneurship? Did Monique learn out of this failure? What would she do or avoid next time? Without discussing and address these questions, this paper would not have properly analyzed the Adesemi Failure as it were. It had raised more than $15 million in venture capital and launched the world s first fully integrated virtual phone system which incorporated voice mail, pagers, and hundreds of pay phones in one of its poorest countries, Tanzania. Then Adesemi crashed to earth, leaving its founder, Monique Maddy, with a company that was a shadow of the powerhouse she had envisioned. • 11. The Decline Of Civility Within The Workplace The question was asked, Do manners matter? The Golden Rule states: do to others what you would want them to do to you. The decline of civility in the workplace has been on the rise. Morals are still at the conclusion that this isn t at any value of importance (Martin). Society assumes that one is born with etiquettes and not taught. Judith Martin states that the Original Innocence is the idea that people are born naturally good but corrupted by civilization (Martin). According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, the definition of civility is polite, reasonable, and respectful behavior. Incivility is an issue for many. Researcher Jeannie Trudel of Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion says that Seventy five percent to eighty percent of people have experienced incivility (Mattice). Employees, bosses, and even family members are affected by one s reaction to incivility. The lack of discipline and the absences of manners is slowly creating a problem in today s work society due to need of communication (Martin). Today s work society has targeted hate for one another. It is typically causing many to regret their choice of profession; constantly, dreading the idea to perform to the expected. If we are going to eliminate the cause of rude behavior and the effect of rude behavior in the workplace, each company should evaluate their policy s, discuss proper expectations, and provide trainings. The cause of uncivil actions can take a dramatic toll on any workplace. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also, at times no measure of coffee can wake us up or propel us to complete our assignments before the end of the day. In any case, on the off chance that you have a female manager, then risks are you might find that additional inspiration to build your efficiency. In the fight between a male versus female manager, you may expect that a male supervisor may be superior at running the show, since guys are frequently seen as natural born leaders. Individuals who act in ways that are incongruent with their sex role tend to be evaluated negatively (Eagly and Karau, 2002). This incongruity can create problems for female managers because characteristics necessary to be a successful leader are more frequently associated with the male gender role (Elsesser and Lever, 2014). In the United States today, females from one perspective are commended as having the right blend of abilities for initiative, yielding unrivaled leadership styles and extraordinary efficiency. Then again, there seems, by all accounts, to be across the board acknowledgment that ladies regularly come in second to men in rivalries to achieve leadership positions. Females are still depicted as struggling for access to leadership positions and in addition prejudice and resistance when they occupy these roles. • 14. Rhetorical Devices In Julius Caesar s Speech In Shakespeare s play of Julius Caesar, Rhetoric is the art of convincing and persuading people by language through public speaking which is used in Julius Caesar s speeches. These devices are used in Brutus and Antony statements throughout the play. Brutus is a conspirator who kills Caesar since he fears that he will have too much power over Rome and its people. In comparison, Marc Antony is the closest friend and most trusted to Caesar, who persuades the people of Rome against Conspirators for killing Caesar. (Thesis statement) Brutus appeals to logic when he explains his actions in Caesar funeral, where as Antony appeals to emotions, playing with the audience feelings to seek justice upon the conspirators. Brutus gives a speech to the people of Rome to explain his reasoning in killing Caesar by using logic. He claims that he killed Caesar because he loves Rome and fears for well being of the people since Caesar was an ambitious man. Brutus expresses feelings by saying Had you rather have Caesar were living, and die all slaves/ than that Caesar were dead to live all free men? (III.I.175). Brutus uses rhetorical questions to make a point to the audience of saying that Rome is better without Caesar because Caesar if he was alive they would all be slaves since Caesar would have ultimate power and control. When you get injured by a knife, it means you got cut buy it in some form or another. Thinking like this would mean that knife that does not cut well is less likely to injure the user. The problem with this thinking is that dull knives require more force to actually complete the cutting action, which in turn makes the user more likely to lose control and accidentally injure themselves because the knife went somewhere it should not have gone. Myth 3: Harder Blades Stay Sharp Longer While hardness definitely is a factor in how sharp an edge a blade can hold, there is thing as a blade being too hard. The problem is that blades that are only hard also are brittle and hence prone to breaking. Brittle blades can easily chip, losing their original edge and so become jagged and dull. If your blade will last long then it needs to be resilient. Hardness alone is not enough. Myth 4: Giving a Knife as a Gift Severs Relationships This is one of the oldest and dumbest knife myths that are still around. People crave to see the world with a youthful eye, being able to find joy and laughter in the worst of situations. This view of a child is shown in Lucy Grealy s book Autobiography of a Face. In the following passage, Lucy describes getting her medical results back as a child and her reaction to her results. I told them I had a malignancy. Perhaps, adults should adopt a childlike mentality to life and view life with its hardships as an adventure. Emerson discusses this idea as well is his essay, Nature. The sun illuminates only the eye of the man, but shines into the eye and the heart of the child. The lover of nature is he whose inward and outward senses are still truly adjusted to each other; who has retained the spirt of infancy even into the era of manhood (Emerson 183). Gender Issues in Washington Irving s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow At first glance, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving seems to be an innocent tale about a superstitious New England town threatened by a strange new comer, Icabod Crane. However, this descriptive narrative is more than just a simple tale because it addresses several gender issues that deserve attention. The pervasiveness of female influence in Sleepy Hollow and the conflict between male and female storytelling in this Dutch community are two pertinent gender issues that complicate Irving s work and ultimately enable the women of Sleepy Hollow to control the men and maintain order. Irving s main character, Icabod Crane, causes a stir and disrupts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather, we are left with a sense of relief at Crane s removal from Sleepy Hollow. Thus the tale presents a stark contrast to Rip Van Winkle. In that story, women attempt and fail to confront men openly; in Sleepy Hollow, female behavior is much more subversive and effective. Female behavior in Sleepy Hollow is a result of its feminine setting. Irving s tale preserves the maintenance of the feminine and the landscape is described as having maternal characteristics. For example, Sleepy Hollow lies in the bosom of a cove lining the Hudson (Irving 948), and the valley is embosomed in the great state of New York (Irving 950). Clearly the repose and security of Sleepy Hollow rest in the maternal landscape an assumption so pervasive that even our male narrator attests to it. For as he observes, the act of naming falls to women in this Dutch village. For example, The good house wives of the adjacent country, from the inveterate propensity of their husbands to linger about the village tavern on market days, have named the nearby rural port Tarry Town (Irving 948). The name and power of naming thus operates as a gently sarcastic means of reproaching unruly husbands and of preserving female dominance over the Hollow. Emily Dickinson Punctuation Katie Holcomb ENG 102 Ballinger 25 July 2017 Dickinson s Riddle Emily Dickinson died before her works were attempted to be analyzed and interpreted, suggesting perhaps that the mysteries, abstractions, and double meanings were for her own enjoyment, and all answers if there were any died with her ( Explanation ). Glimpsing at just a few of Dickinson s poems is sure to catch the eye of a reader, posing questions of grammatical soundness. Capital letters, dots, and dashes appear consistently, but maybe there is a reason behind it all. Emily Dickinson uses punctuation in a non traditional way throughout her poems, contributing to the effect and meaning of her works, such as My Life had stooda Loaded Gun, After great pain, a formal feeling comes, and Wild NightsWild Nights! Emily Dickinson employs commonly used punctuation marks in an uncommon way, riddling many of her poems. Emily Dickinson s poems, like inlay, tend to be made of splinters of thought and sight, often brilliant fragments, held together by a mosaic sense of pattern, joined irregularly by dashes (Wilner). Although dashes appear the most, some works also contain explanation marks. Exclamation marks in Dickinson s poems suggest strong feeling in her thoughts, interjecting passion and excitement throughout. The punctuation used by the author enhances her works and helps to draw in her audience. Dickinson s My Life had stood a Loaded Gun contains en dashes from beginning to end, giving more meaning ... • 31. Misconceptions Of Color Blindness RESEARCH BLOG ENCHROMA GLASSES: We all have different ways of perceiving the world. Going back 3 years most of you may remember the big debate of the blue and black or white and gold dress. To some of us distant objects may look blurry, to others near objects. Others may see everything blurry! However, most people with these common conditions can either have surgery or wear glasses. The condition I would like to approach however, is one where it is not something that is physically wrong with the eye and so it has no cure . The technology I have chosen to share with you targets at a group of people who have trouble with colours. We call this condition colour blindness. Colour blindness? Maybe that s not the right word for it... One of the most common misconceptions about colour blindness (also known as colour vision deficiency) is that people with this condition are completely blind to colour. That is, they see the world in black and white... Luckily, this is a very rare type of colour blindness, affecting 1 in 40,000 people. There are in fact various types of colour deficiency caused by different mutations, but my chosen technology targets at the red green type. Before diving into how humans detect and interpret colour, let us start from the basics. Light can be thought of as either a wave or a particle. When thinking of light as a particle, we say it is made of photons . Each photon is related to a certain wavelength depending on how much energy it has. The human eye ... The primer s basic function is to gather like strands of DNA together and stack them so it is easier to see the DNA sequence or amplify the sequence. For example, primers were developed for humans, bears, dogs, cats, pigs, cattle, etc. If you were trying to identify unknown DNA you would use the primer for the individual species on the sample. Such a method is highly applicative for a wide variety of applications, be it Netflix or Twitter data to be analyzed by a Data Scientist. An adversarial querier could not, for instance, obtain an accurate answer to the query Has John followed Mark? because the cost of such a query would exceed any reasonable privacy budget. Even though everything seems fine till now, the adversary can still attack the user s data. This is because we have assumed that all that the adversary can notice is the output of the query. However, the adversary can also notice the time taken for the system to reply to the query. Such observations can be exploited to mount a covert channel attack. To continue with our earlier example, the adversary might run a query that always re turns zero as its result but that takes one hour to complete if John Doe follows Mark and less than a second otherwise. Both Airavat and PINQ would consider such a system to be secure since the output is differentially private. However, the adversary can still learn with perfect certainty whether John follows Mark a blatant violation of differential privacy. Fortunately, the user s access to the database only via queries leads to channels like power consumption [9] and electromagnetic radiation [5, 8] being ruled out, henceforth, leaving the adversary with just two channels: the privacy budget and the query completion time. The main idea is that women value relationship and empathy within a group, while men are struggling to raise their status and class. According to Deborah Tannen, this affects how they think and speak. Generally, men talk more in a public situation, while women talk more in private settings. Most women tend to use rapport talk for conversation, a way of establishing connections and negotiating relationships, whereas most men tend to use report talk, a way of preserving independence and maintain status in hierarchical social order (Deborah Tannen, You just don t understand: Women and men in conversation) There are different understandings between gender about what conversation is for. To him, talk is information, which is used to inform what he needs to know or what he wants other to know.
