Feminist Geography
Feminist Geography
Since its conception, geography has been involved in the development of races and genders, mapping
the boundaries that separate and exclude the world of privilege from the other. The imposing eyes that
facilitated this domination have recently been challenged to quash their perpetuation of racial
difference, and although existing more obscurely, to challenge the sexist legacy remaining in
geography.
As part of geography, feminist approaches within our discipline take the same set of central concepts
as their focus as other sub areas of geography. Thus over the decade feminist geographers have
addressed three of the central concepts of the discipline space, place and nature and the ... Show more

The under representation that occurs at the moment can also be linked to similar practices occurring in
the nineteenth century; the gendering of science in the nineteenth century effectively excluded women,
both from science in general and those particular techniques that loosely constituted physical
geography in the years before the institutionalization of the discipline (McEwan, 1998).
This problem is not helped by the situation today that the differences in numbers of female human and
physical geographers is negligible;
women are almost equally likely to be physical geographers as they are to be human geographers
(Bartram Shobrook, 1998). If this is the case, then feminist geography is definitely less about
feminism and more about geography since we must first strive to explain this apparent phenomenon
and then redress the balance. One explanation offered through feminist scholarship follows thus; in
particular,

Analysis Of The Awakening
In Chopin s novel, The Awakening, she writes about a woman s desire to find and live fully within her
true self during the 1890s in Louisiana. The woman, Edna Pontellier, is trying to find herself in the
masculine society of Louisiana, leading her to cause friction with friends, family and the Creole
society. Edna begins to feel a change; she begins to feel like a whole person with wants, interests and
desires. She learns that she is not comfortable with being a wife and mother. The imagery of the parrot
in the cage in Chopin s novel is being compared to Edna because it represents Edna s unspoken
feelings and imprisonment. The sense of unspoken feelings and imprisonment of Edna causes her to
put her own needs before her family. As Edna finds herself trying to satisfy the Creole society, she
begins to feel isolated and confused. Through Edna s trace of freedom, she begins to undergo a
transformation of self, slowly straying away from society, and taking control over her own actions and
beliefs. Through obstacles to Edna s freedom, she learns that she does have control of her own body.
The symbolism of the birds and the sea is used to symbolize Edna s struggle for independence. Chopin
s character Edna Pontellier in The Awakening represents a caged bird that is not able act on how she
feels. The caged birds serves as a reminder to Edna that she is caged in a role as a wife and mother,
and she is not to think of herself. In general, the caged birds symbolize the role of

Romeo And Juliet Comparative Essay
Baz Luhrman s filmed adaptation of William Shakespeare s play, Romeo + Juliet was released in 1996
and starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes as the leading roles. The film brought the ancient
script to a modern time based in Verona, Italy. The Montagues and Capulets are represented as enemy
mafia empires and swords are replaced with guns. This analytical essay will examine the various
dramatic elements featured in the film, such as, roles and relationships, tension and the mood and
atmosphere displayed throughout the film. Similar to the original script, the film focuses heavily on
the roles and relationships between characters, especially Romeo and Juliet s love arc. Viewers
experience Romeo and Juliet s tragic love story progress over the weekend, from their first meeting at
the party to their double suicide at the tomb. The films shows viewers that their relationship with one
another is the key relationship in the film. The majority of the film revolves about their love for each
other and shows on various occasions how much Romeo and Juliet fight for the chance to be together.
Their love is the core storyline of the film. An example of how important the relationship between the

Solar Renewable Energy System
In brewing industry, 80% of overall final energy consumption is used in the form of thermal energy
where solar thermal can be used for brewing processes as below: steam generation, malting process,
stopping germination of grains, air cooling, conservation with hot air, power supplying of washing
machines, wither and kiln processes. Malting plants and breweries consume heat for their thermally
driven processes at temperature level ranges between 25°C to 120°C. It seems feasible to supply heat
at this temperature level which is not higher than the actual amount required but in reality the it is
often decided by the consumer which needs the highest temperature. The integration of solar
renewable energy system is necessary to reduce the exergy losses and CO2 emissions [17,21,24,25].
To utilize the organic matter from brewing residues, optimized heat recovery can supply its thermal
energy demand over resources. Theoretically, the full energy potential is not utilized so the pathway is
the conventional means of energy. However, the conversion of heat from energy gained from
renewable energy resources can ensure environment friendly beer production process for future. To
increase the overall energy efficiency, the integration of solar heat energy gained from solar thermal
collector technologies can be considered as a prospective alternative to fulfill the demands of typical
low temperature process heat.

The earliest known inhabitants of what is now the United States are thought to have arrived in Alaska
by crossing the Bering land bridge, at least 14,000 30,000 years ago.[10] Some of these groups
migrated south and east, and over time spread throughout the Americas. These were the ancestors to
modern Native Americans in the United States and Alaskan Native peoples, as well as all indigenous
peoples of the Americas.
Many indigenous peoples were semi nomadic tribes of hunter gatherers; others were sedentary and
agricultural civilizations. Many formed new tribes or confederations in response to European

[edit] French colonization
See also: New France and Fort Caroline
New France was the area colonized by France in North America during a period extending from the
exploration of the Saint Lawrence River, by Jacques Cartier in 1534, to the cession of New France to
Spain and Britain in 1763. At its peak in 1712 (before the Treaty of Utrecht), the territory of New
France extended from Newfoundland to the Rocky Mountains and from Hudson Bay to the Gulf of
Mexico. The territory was divided in five colonies, each with its own administration: Canada, Acadia,
Hudson Bay, Newfoundland and Louisiana.
Also during this period, French Huguenots, sailing under Jean Ribault, attempted to found a colony in
what became the southeastern coast of the United States. Arriving in 1562, they established the
ephemeral colony of Charlesfort on Parris Island in what is now South Carolina. When this failed,
most of the colonists followed René Goulaine de Laudonnière and moved south, founding the colony
of Fort Caroline at the mouth of the St. Johns River in what is now Jacksonville, Florida on June 22,
1564. Fort Caroline was destroyed in 1565 by the Spanish under Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, who
moved in from St. Augustine, founded to the south earlier in the year.

Summary Of Anselm s Ontological Argument
Arguments for God are quite extensive, having taken many different forms throughout history and
Anselm s Ontological argument stands as one of the most famous. Anselm s argument begins with the
concept of God and, by using only a priori principles, attempts to establish the existence of God. His
specific Argument goes as follows: That than which nothing greater can be conceived (God) exists in
understanding, things are greater in reality than in understanding, therefore that than which nothing
greater can be conceived must exist in reality. Anselm s argument fails in two ways Anselm falsely
assumes that the God he proves, to exist, is supremely unique and the second assumption that
existence is a quality that things can possess. Anselm believes ... Show more content on

However, why should existence in reality be either greater or worse? Why must a chair thought of in
the mind be either greater or worse than a chair in reality? No qualities are added to a chair in reality
when compared to one in the mind. Kant s famous argument against Anselm s is that existence is not a
predicate. Existence is different than other qualities such as height or weight and cannot improve or
degrade anything. When we talk about a chair it doesn t necessarily mean that this supposed chair
either exists or doesn t we add that after. Rowe summarizes Kant s argument as follows, ... If existence
were a predicate, the affirmative existential statement tigers exist would be a redundancy and the
negative existential statement dragons do not exist would be contradictory (pg. 40). Ideas and
concepts are essentially the same, whether they are tangible things within reality or thoughts of the
mind. There are no added qualities that an idea gains through existing in reality. If a chair were
thought up and then suddenly appeared in reality as an exact replica of the thought, there would be no
discernible difference between the two. Existence is wholly separate from predicate s and this
oversight by Anselm has led to a major flaw within his

Dr. Phil Mcgraw s Relationship Rescue
Relationship Rescue
In Dr. Phil McGraw s Relationship Rescue , Dr. Phil uses a combination of personal advice,
experience and reader participation to provide help to those who feel their relationship is failing.
Throughout the book, Dr. Phil strongly encourages the reader to actively engage by writing down their
feelings, answering very personal questions about themselves and their significant other, and to put
motion into your emotion. Meaning take action, and if you re emotionally unhappy, it is time to
physically do something about it. The author is eager to successfully help couples put their
relationships back together and allow it to thrive in new ways. Throughout the book, Dr. Phil McGraw
proves that even though he sometimes prompted difficult and uncomfortable conversations,
communication was and always will be one of the most important elements of a relationship.
In the first and second chapter of Relationship Rescue, Dr. Phil s main focus is you (the reader) then
moving forward to the relationship. He claims that Rescuing your relationship means rescuing you.
The point here is to help the reader understand that in order to be happy in their relationship, they need
to be happy with themselves first. He explains that if you get yourself straight you re creating a
happier lifestyle, and by doing this your partner will be seriously affected. Explaining that even

Rhetorical Analysis Of Donald Trump s Election Of The...
In November 2016, Donald Trump was elected president of the United States. With a campaign
centered around otherization and nationalism, the atmosphere of this election, as well as the attitudes
of the citizens of the country, bears similarities to 1930s Nazi Germany. While it may initially seem
far fetched to compare Donald Trump s election to Adolf Hitler s rise to power, both campaigns utilize
nationalistic, racist sentiment and a fear of the foreign other to gain power within the country.
Moreover, both campaigns utilize propaganda and the media in their own way to generate hatred and
fear to further their own goals. I will argue that these tactics used by Donald Trump has inspired
numerous acts of hatred, and that any person who is not a white male has a reason to fear Trump s
presidency.
With any essay making a comparison of Hitler and the Nazis, the idea of Godwin s Law should come
into question. Godwin s Law is a popular internet adage that states that as an argument goes on, the
probability that someone compares the other person to Hitler or Nazis approaches 1. What this means
is that when a discussion becomes heated, it becomes off topic, and any potential spreading of facts
and information halts; instead, the participants in the discussion resort to name calling. Comparing
someone to Hitler a man that is responsible for the deaths of 11 million people and is commonly
referred to as the evilest man to have lived in recent times is akin to insulting

The Effect of Longer School Days on Children
Do you remember being in elementary school feeling sleepy, wishing you were back in kindergarten
where you were allowed to take naps? Was your brain ever so tired that the only way you were able to
stay awake was by daydreaming or talking to friends while the teacher was teaching? That is the case
with many students in the United States. Not only does the current school schedule prove to be
unproductive to students, but also adding longer hours to a school day can have more damaging
effects than positive ones. In the 1970 s the school days used to be 5.5 hours with two recess breaks in
the day and one extended lunch period where children were allowed to go home and eat. Now the
school days are 6.5 hours with one recess break if the child is in elementary school, and a short lunch
break. The public school system has been struggling for a while and the drop out rate has been
increasing in a fast and steady speed. The solution to this problem, by the representatives of our city, is
to add another two hours to the school day. This is not only happening in Chicago, but it is happening
all across the country. If you look back at the 1970 s times where simpler, more family oriented,
children were better behaved, and students did well academically. A small change like adding hours to
a school day can do a lot of long lasting damage that can result in other areas of your life. An example
is by having a long day at work. After a while of being at work employees get tired and they do

Strengths And Strengths Of An Individual
Introduction
Capitalizing on one s strengths and using a strengths based approach, rather than a weakness based
approach to personal development has been proven to lead to extraordinary leadership. Focusing on
the strengths that one holds as an individual will help one create a better understanding of the intrinsic
motivations one holds, as well as emote the confident and realistic actions that are needed by leaders.
For this reason, I will be going through the process of the Reflected Best Self exercise, developed by
the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. By undertaking this significant exercise, I
will be able to immerse myself in my strengths and find out what I have to offer myself, those close to
me, as well as future and current associates, thereby helping me understand what kind of leader I am
at the moment as well as finding out how I can become the leader I want to become. This in itself will
serve as my best self portrait which will identify who I am at my best as well as being a conduit to
understanding how to further develop my strengths.
Initial Perspective on Strengths
I have always thought of myself as being a very precise person. No matter what it is that I am doing,
whether it be cleaning around the house, or doing my homework, I always take the time to do it
thoroughly. I am able to do this because I develop a routine for everything I do, even if it is a new
experience. I associate this to my need for having everything be orderly

How Mobile Marketing Effectively Engage Customers
How to Utilize Mobile Marketing Effectively to Engage Customers
As the screen spaces of mobile devices are limited especially on smartphones, the first principle, only
present what really matters when originating the content, is a virtue. Besides, since users often have a
habit of scanning their news feeds for news when browsing on their mobile devices, the screen time of
each post is extremely limited or perhaps it is just a three second trial. No matter a content is designed
for a post or an advertisement, in order to employ such brief exposure wisely, it is important to devise
it much like an orchestra and deliver a succinct message. Here are 10 incisive guidelines as an
ultimate mobile marketing playbook when forming a proposition.
Who is(are) your target audience(s)? What are their habits of browsing online or using the mobile
apps?
Is it a B2B or a B2C campaign?
Therefore, to set the constraints based on the criteria, such as age, gender, occupation, industry,
culture, etc. are the keys to understanding your audiences. For instance, teenagers prefer and tend to
use their mobile devices more often than any other age groups, which they usually spend an extensive
length of hours even after midnight online. Meanwhile, professionals, during office hours, have
increasingly used mobile devices in recent years due to the fast speed, low cost, easy to use and
convenient of mobile communications. Since customers from different countries or regions may use

Bone Cancer
Exploring the Symptoms, Treatment, Prevention, and Statistics of Chondrosarcoma and Osteosarcoma
Alexus Edwards Gabrielle Newton

Ronald Wilson Reagan College Preparatory IB High School
Bone cancer is an uncommon disease that typically develops in the arm and leg bones (Mayo Clinic,
2015). Every year, there is an estimated 2,970 diagnoses made in the United States between all ages
and genders (Cancer.net, 2014). The two most common types are osteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma,
both of which share similar symptoms, treatment options, and survival rates.
Bone cancer is defined as the uncontrolled growth of bone cells. The first recognizable symptoms are
pain and tenderness in the bone. Other common signs include decreased mobility of a joint, fatigue, as
well as anemia. Bone tumors are a clear indicator of bone cancer, however, they often go unnoticed
until significant pain or injury has been acquired as a result. Apart from tumors, the symptoms of bone
cancer are indecisive and can pertain to a number of medical conditions. This condition cannot be self
diagnosed, but only determined through further inspection by a doctor. (Viswanatha, 2011). There are
two types of bone tumors: benign (non cancerous and typically non threatening) and malignant
(cancerous and requiring medical attention). Such growths are seen in metastatic bone cancers, a type
of cancer that does not originally start in the bones, but spreads to the bones from

Essay on The Responsibility of Macbeth for his own Actions
In the Elizabethan Era, society was highly suspicious of the power of supernatural forces and it was
commonly accepted that one s life was governed by fate and was predetermined. Shakespeare s
Macbeth challenges the Elizabethan ideology of fate by privileging that although Macbeth was a
victim of his vaulting ambition (1:VII 27), he was ultimately responsible for his villainous actions.
Shakespeare has foregounded certain events to privilege that a person has free will and a concience
and the cosequences of going against one s conscience, thus challenging the assumption of the
Elizabethan Era. The audience is invited to sympathise with the protagonist, Macbeth, and see him as
a tragic hero. Before his descent into evil, Macbeth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Macbeth then began a series of murders to retain his fruitless crown (3:I 67), to be thus is nothing, but
to be safely thus (3:I 54). It was Macbeth s latent ambition for power that caused his descent into evil.
Shakespeare foregrounds that Macbeth was aware of and resposible for his actions, through
conscience and free will, to illustrate that he was not a victim of supernatural forces. By doing this he
is challeging the assumptions of the Elizabethan Era that supernatural forces and supernatural
soliciting predetermine one s destiny. The hallucinations and ghostly apparitions are foreground not to
illustrate supernatural interference, but to foreground Macbeth s guilty conscience. Macbeth struggles
with his conscience, this humanises him and invites the audience to relate to him. Even before
Macbeth had committed murder, his conscience was causing him to have qualms. One example of this
is in Act One Scene 7, before the regicide of Duncan. We will proceed no further in this business.
(Duncan) hath honoured me of late, and I have bought golden opinions from all sorts of people, which
would be worn in their newest gloss, not cast aside so soon. Macbeth was disinclined to murder
gracious Duncan as he believed him to be a good king (4:III 163), however he still made the decision
to commit regicide. This foregrounds the internal struggle Macbeth endured with his conscience that
makes him a tragic hero. Supernatural elements exist to

Thus, the capacity of a track and the rotational delay both increase for positions nearer the outer edge
of the disk. 12 What differences between CD and DVD account for the larger capacity of the latter? 1.
Bits are packed more closely on a DVD. The spacing between loops of a spiral on a CD is 1.6 µm and
the minimum distance between pits along the spiral is 0.834 µm. The DVD uses a laser with shorter
wavelength and achieves a loop spacing of 0.74 µm and a minimum distance between pits of 0.4 µm.
The result of these two improvements is about a seven fold increase in capacity, to about 4.7 GB. 2.
The DVD employs a second layer of pits and lands on top of the first layer A dual layer DVD has a
semireflective layer on top of the reflective layer, and by adjusting focus, the lasers in DVD drives can
read each layer separately. This technique almost doubles the capacity of the disk, to about 8.5 GB.
The lower reflectivity of the second layer limits its storage capacity so that a full doubling is not
achieved. 3. The DVD ROM can be two sided whereas data is recorded on only one side of a CD. This
brings total capacity up to 17 GB. 13 Explain serpentine recording The typical recording technique
used in serial tapes is referred to as serpentine recording. In this technique, when data are being
recorded, the first set of bits is recorded along the whole length of the tape. When the end of the tape
is reached, the heads are repositioned to record a new track, and the

perhaps have more than just two reasons. Either resources are scarce or the production value is just not
worth a couple of dollars, or natural resources were there but did not have the capability or essential
skills to utilize it. Resources were within a simple grasp. However, changes brought more demand.
When the boys took off for the night to fish they would make and gather so much that giving them out
within one day was impossible. Nevertheless, with the rituals came to give some away for free, certain
Samoan beliefs made it harder to utilize the buy and sell scheme. Older folks were more disposed to
giving, embracing the value of open hands .

Understanding the Compostion of Planet Earth
For millions of years, the Earth beneath our feet befuddled scientists. They understood that there was a
fiery chasm constantly spewing molten lava. But what was underneath all of that magma, was there
anything else? It would take thousands of years before a scientist could create a viable hypothesis for
the core of the Earth. According to Edmund Mathez of the American Museum of Natural history, Inge
Lehman, a Danish seismologist, published a paper in 1936 that suggested there was a solid inner core
to the Earth, as well as a liquid outer core (Mathez, 2001). With the technology that we have now that
Lehman did not have, we have furthered the understanding of our planet s core, which has led to a
greater understanding of the entire workings of our planet. BBC s The Core is a documentary that
helps deliver that understanding of the core to the public so that they may understand what is
happening with the world below its people. The documentary begins with more mysterious
information, discussing problems that NASA had with the Hubble telescope on an almost daily basis.
In February of 1997, once a day, the Hubble telescope would flicker on and off. There was fear that a
total loss of the expensive telescope was eminent. The next step for the scientists was to plot exactly
where the malfunctions were occurring. It was discovered, as the telescope drifted over southern
South America and the South Atlantic Ocean, that the telescope would flicker and encounter the most
problems.

The Three Eras Of The Medieval, Renaissance And Baroque...
The three most well known, and arguably most important, musical eras in western civilizations would
be the; medieval, Renaissance and Baroque time periods. With the basics of music with Gregorian
chant and organum from the medieval era to the newfound polyphony texture from the Renaissance
and the equal temperament and major minor tonality of the baroque era; Each time period brings a part
of the foundation that most past, present, and future music is and will be based on. While it may seem
that these three eras or completely different, they do contain several underlying similarities. Beginning
at around 476 AD, the medieval era is mostly related to the church as most music from this era is
sacred. The style of this era, the Gregorian chant is monophonic only comprising of the plainchant (or
the single line melodies of early church music) in texture only comprising of the plainchant (or the
single line melodies of early church music). It is not until the arrival of the French composers Léonin
and Pèrotin in 1100 and 1200 respectively that polyphony would be incorporated into musical worship
with the decoration of Gregorian chant with one or more simultaneous musical lines, thus transitioning
from Gregorian chant to Organum. During this era, most of the music and roles for musicians
belonged to the church except for the troubadours of southern France and the trouvères of northern
France. The music was responsorial between the mass and the father during church and was

Similarities Between The Hobbit And The Sword In The Stone
Final Essay
In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit, writes J.R.R. Tolkien. Within Tolkien s famous novel The
Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, thirteen dwarves, and a wizard named Gandalf embark on a journey to reclaim
the dwarves long forgotten gold. Although the story seems to be completely original and made of fresh
ideas, it is actually influenced by previous literature, like other common novels. Many legends of King
Arthur, with unknown authors, influenced J.R.R. Tolkien s The Hobbit. Several points and ideas in the
Arthurian story The Sword in the Stone are also reflected in The Hobbit. One theme in this story is
that one shouldn t have a bias towards who can do something and who cannot. For instance, in The
Hobbit, the dwarves believe that Bilbo can t be a good burglar and help them with their task because
he is a hobbit. When Bilbo had attempted to steal something that could ve saved them, Bombur said,
Silly time to practice pinching and go pocket picking, (Tolkien 41) although Bilbo ... Show more

In both of these stories, it begins with all parties being merry. In the first tale, it is the dwarves who are
merry, because they are giddy at the thought of regaining their gold. In the Arthurian tale, they are
joyous because it is Christmastime. In both fantasy tales, the hero is always expected to defeat the
largest foe. In The Hobbit, the hero s trouble is that no one wanted to defeat Smaug. In Sir Gawain and
the Green Knight, the problem is that none of the knights wanted to stand up and face the Green
Knight. One last similarity is that because of being chivalrous, nothing horrible happened to the hero
in the end. In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Gawain faced three testing temptations, but still
fulfilled his promise. In The Hobbit, Bilbo shows chivalry by bringing the Arkenstone to Bard and the
Elvenking as his plan. Thus, The Hobbit and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight are

Human Public Toilets For World Toilet Day Essay
On the contrary to public knowledge, November 19th is a United Nations (UN) observance for World
Toilet Day. Although it is unclear as to who invented the first latrine, for Homo sapiens, public toilets
are one of the major markers for sophistication as a species. With eradicating unrestricted urination
and defecation behaviors, this helps humans to keep cities clean and overall reduces the risk of
disease.
With this knowledge at hand, one could infer that other mammals have adapted this same behavior of
sharing toilet spaces. In fact, rather than excreting randomly, many mammals have specific sites
assigned for this activity. These sites are assigned to specific locations that are away from where the
animals reside to sleep and feed.
However, where Homo sapiens differ from other mammals, is that human public toilets are designed
primarily for sanitation purposes. As described by the United Nations, World Toilet Day, on 19
November, is about taking action to reach the 2.4 billion people living without a toilet, (UN 2016).
The United Nations then further express how sanitation is a global development priority, and how
sanitation, or lack of, can impact the livelihood of people (UN 2016).
In contrast, other mammal communal latrines serve a more unique purpose than just health. Not to
neglect sanitation as being an important factor in the overall survival of a group, but other mammals
have devised more diverse ways to use their excreta. These communal latrines seem to have

The Description Of Cookham Analysis
Friendship is a blessing, people say, and it is. Men often express their appreciation and respect for
male friends through literature. A fellowship, medieval authors call it. A deep and unbreakable
connection between males, transcending romantic love. A relationship based on mutual support and
admiration, thriving of intellectual stimulation. Nothing is more valuable to a man than a friendship,
not even the love of a woman; it is only a man, after all, who can understand another man. To
seventeenth century men, friendship (just like everything else) is a male blessing a patriarchal gift not
for women. Female friendship was impossible, for an amicable and supportive relationship between
women could never exist. Platonic friendships existed between men, not women. Yet, several female
poets challenged this notion, emphasizing importance of female friendships as male authors and poets
do. Friendship is defined through a feminist lens in Aemilia Lanyer s The Description of Cookham
and Katherine Philips poetry in which female characteristics that are often overlooked are deeming
meaningful through friendship. For Lanyer, female friendship is an act of admiration and support
between women. In The Description of Cookham, she honors Margaret Clifford, the Countess of
Cumberland, through the celebration and lamentation of her royal estate. The Countess and Anne
Clifford run the estate, and Lanyer resides there with them. At Cookham, Lanyer has obtained Grace

The Potential Growth Of Companies
Our purpose is to find the potential growth of companies in both the large cap and small mid cap
category of biotechnology industry.
Therefore, we selected two mature companies and two companies that are in development stage. Our
choices mainly base on the companies pipeline because biotechnology companies lives or dies
depending on their pipeline, level of expertise and network of partners/distributors they have. For
mature companies, we looked at their financial strength, the source of financing they have to fund
their research and development, as well as their products breadth in the pipeline. We prefer mature
companies with dominating market shares and are focusing on common diseases, cancer or heart

Introduction:
In this Lab report we will be using Red Cabbage extract as an indicator to determine the pH of
substances. The purpose of this experiment is to see if and how base and acids react. Indicators are
chemicals that change color depending on the pH solution that they are dissolved in. This experiment
will determine which items we use to determine ph. The pH of a solution indicates its acidity or
alkalinity. There is a ph. scale that determines if the items such as lemons or bleach are an acid or a
base. I have chosen to use red cabbage in this experiment so that I can know the range of the item that

Relationship Between Mexico And Mexico
The relationship of the United States and Mexico goes back centuries and the importance of this
relationship has gained more attention over the last decade. This relationship has gained attention due
to the enormous amount of problems Mexico is having economically and socially. Specifically, the
relationship with Mexico is important to the safety of our nation and U.S. self interest because of the
issues with drug trafficking, gang violence, and immigration. These influences on our country are vital
and play a pivotal role in our economy and rapport with Mexico. These problems are the results from

Leadership Vs. Roman s Legacy
I have had 20 leaders during in my years in the Army. Some good and some bad, but none have left a
lasting legacy that I would want to emulate. None until spring 2014, when CSM Roman took over as
my Battalion Command Sergeant Major and changed my outlook on what a true expert and
professional is supposed to exemplify. Due to my interaction with him, I have decided that CSM
Gregory Roman is my leader of influence. If there were more leaders like CSM Roman, then the Army
as we know it would be in a much better position. My first interaction with CSM Roman was very
brief, not to mention very embarrassing. I was attending a NCO of the Quarter board just before he
took over responsibility of my battalion. I wanted to leave a lasting impression on him, but that was
not the way I wanted. I wanted him to see a hard working Staff Sergeant who was confident and
knowledgeable. Needless to say, I failed miserably. The look on his face when I walked out of that
room is an image that I ll never forget. A few days passed before our next encounter. He pulled me
aside, spoke to me about my performance, and told me I know you can do better than that . Here is a
man who has only seen me once and has well over 100 NCOs in his battalion, yet remembered my

First Language Acquisition And The Doubt Towards...
Due to the development in first language acquisition and the doubt towards contrastive analysis which
has deemed that all errors made by language learners are caused by the interference from the mother
tongue, error analysis, a response to and an alternative of contrastive analysis and an approach
influenced by behaviourism was given birth to and become increasingly popular among researchers
and teachers who began paying more attention on and shifting the interest in the errors made by
second language learners in the 1960s and 1970s (Mitchell, Myles and Marsden, 2013). Central to the
notion of error analysis is that it is a process where learners errors are collected and analysed in order
to get some implication from the results (Brown, 1987, p. 17; Corder, 1967; Khansir, 2012) and the
purpose of error analysis according to Corder (1974, p. 170) is to find what the learner know and does
not know and to ultimately enable the teacher to supply him not just with the information that his
hypothesis is wrong, importantly, with the right sort of information or data for him to form a more
adequate concept of rule in the target language . Moreover, Gass and Selinker (2008) also agree that
second language learners errors can provide information about their knowledge of the system.
To know how error analysis works, firstly it should know what an error is and its possible sources.
When it comes to the definition of errors, many researchers have given their own ideas. Corder

James Joyce
Essay Introduction to Literature
An initiation in James Joyce s story Araby Many times in life, people set unrealistic expectations for
themselves or for other people. This is not a very wise thing to do because people often feel
disappointed and embarrassed for getting their hopes up so high. One good example of this is the
narrator in the short story Araby by James Joyce. In his brief but complex story James Joyce
concentrates on character rather than on plot to reveal the ironies within self deception. On its simplest
level, Araby is a story about a boy s first love. On a deeper level, it is a story about the world he lives
in that is full of ideals and dreams. Araby is a story of initiation, of a boy s quest for ... Show more

The second thing that has an impact on protagonist s life view is the culture and life in Dublin. But on
the rest of the people from this city. Children have to go to Christian school, where the discipline is
strict. That can be inferred from the very first sentence of the story: North Richmond Street, being
blind, was a quiet street except at the hour when the Christian Brothers School set the boys free.
Another thing that can be noticed about the boy s religious belonging is in the way he acts: All my
senses seemed to desire to veil themselves and, feeling that I was about to slip from them, I pressed
the palms of my hands together until they trembled, murmuring: O love! O love! many times. (p. 434)
This sentence can be interpreted as though he does the thing he is used to do every time he happens to
be in difficult situation. These facts play a huge role in the forming of this boy s character and his life.
Overvalue of boy s attitude towards life in Araby is supported by the circumstances the boy had to
face up with that are used as imagery of light and darkness. Darkness is used throughout the story as
the prevailing theme. The boy is young and naive and he leads a dull and boring life. Joyce uses dark
and obscure references to make the boy s reality of living in the gloomy town more vivid. Darkness, in
addition to despair, represents the reality and truth in the narrator s circumstances. The author uses
dark references to create the mood or atmosphere

How Water Shortages Caused The Future Can Produce...
The focus of this essay is how water shortages in the future can produce worldwide food shortages.
Only if we act to improve water use in agriculture will we meet the acute freshwater challenges facing
humankind over the coming 50 years [4]. As the world changes over the next fifty years, the water
struggles that we endure will be seen in the food production around the world. There are many factors
that contribute to this occurring, including global climate change, the increase in water security
vulnerability, and the phenomenon that the world has hit peak water. The world s population has also
changed their average diet over the past 50 years, to consuming more meat and more calories in
general [4]. This dietary change means that each person requires more water to produce their food
than in previous generations. In the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) countries as much as
50% of their food is imported [1]. These countries are currently seeing the troubles of not having
enough water to grow and supply them with enough food. In the future other regions of the world may
become less inclined to trade with the MENA countries, because their own countries are consuming
all of their food. The region has suffered from a decline in water availability which is only projected to
decline even further in the next few decades [1]. The struggles of this region could be a preview for
many other regions around the world if the water shortages continue as projected. By

The Evolution of Miley Cyrus
As Miley Cyrus s audience matured, she purposefully changed her image by creating a new star text
that was the polar opposite of her previous. A star text is everything that we associate with a start,
including their promotion and body of work. Her hit sitcom Hannah Montana built her previous brand
identity that connected with her audience of adolescent children. Miley s original image was known
for being a sweet and innocent teenage girl. Now her current start text identifies with heartbreak,
drugs, activism and nonconformity. The extreme change of start text shocked and dismayed
individuals. Many social media users and celebrity journalist wrote the transformation off implying it
as a lost girl in her twenties making slipups she will eventually regret. Despite the negative comments,
Miley has embraced her star text using it for free publicity and media attention. Despite Miley Cyrus s
claims that her controversial change was not for reward or fame. Her old star text became mundane to
mainstream media and her maturing audience, compelling her to reinvent her star text in order to
continue being famous and successful in the music industry.

characters experience this theme of loneliness throughout the story whether through the death of one s

from renewable lignocellulosic Resources may improve energy availability, decrease air pollution,
diminish atmospheric CO2 accumulation. The production of fuel from seawater takes 23,000 gallon of
seawater to produce to produe one gallon of liquid hydrocarbon fuel. This process solves two
problems; dependence on fossil fuels and rising of sea level. The ultraviolet rays coming from sun also

Ecotourism in South American Countries Essay
Ecotourism in South American Countries
Synopsis:
We are living in a world that tends to put developed nations against indigenous peoples. Foreign
developers seeking cheap labor and natural resources on untouched lands are exploiting cultures that
have survived for centuries on their own.
South America is a continent that possesses rich indigenous culture that is still relatively untouched by
outsiders. Americans have the ability to preserve that heritage through organized efforts to encourage
certain types of visitors to indigenous areas to create an economy that will take the place of potential
mining, logging, and ranching enterprises. That economy is ecotourism.
The following paper displays some of the pros and cons of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

To act as a means of improving the status of these poor countries, the idea of Ecotourism was
developed. Though the idea of Ecotourism was one with good intentions, the local people in the
countries where Ecotourism has been in effect are not gaining much at all.
History of Ecotourism:
The idea that led to Ecotourism emerged in the late sixties when people like Oswaldo Muñoz, now
president of the Ecuadorian Ecotourism Association, started guiding tourists around their countries to
view natural wonders. Many companies began to set up lodging near parks and reserves and even
began to develop tours of those areas. The vision of showing off exotic plants, animals and the overall
natural beauty of countries like Ecuador also attracted them. Yet early on, this did little to help the
local economies. It actually contributed to other problems: In Ecuador, half of the country s rain forest
disappeared, and environmental groups and other organizations promoting ecotourism flocked to
places where endangered species, including many indigenous populations, lived. But with the growing
environmental awareness of

The Transportation Security Administration Is An Integral...
In our time, the Transportation Security Administration is an integral part of airports in the United
States. One cannot simply travel on a plane without going through the metal detectors or being
instructed to take off his or her shoes to check for bombs. Many travelers regard the TSA to be a
hassle, as it adds hours into the process of boarding a flight. Some treat it as a necessary evil; they
believe that the presence of the TSA is needed to offset the vulnerable state of airports. However, the
need for safety does not mean that the TSA is completely justified. The Transportation Security
Administration fails to do its job in serving the public. Its policies and practices infringe on people s
privacy, have questionable effectiveness, and pose health risks, while its employees behave
unprofessionally and have inadequate training for their jobs. Alternative security measures and
internal reform will help the Transportation Security Administration do its job better and raise public
opinion.
The year 2001 marked a radical shift in behavior at airports. Whereas before there were few
restrictions on baggage items, after the September 11 tragedy, the U.S. government significantly
tightened regulations regarding what could be taken on a plane. Two months later, in November 2001,
the Transportation Security Administration was formed after the Aviation and Transportation Security
Act was passed through Congress. The Council on Foreign Relations, a nonprofit organization,

Tragedies While Climbing Mount Everest Are Caused by Human Error
Especially in terrible weather, every second counts while nearing the top of Mount Everest on an
expedition. A step in the wrong place or a rope hooked to the wrong crag may send a climber falling
thousands of feet into a deep crevasse. Turning an oxygen level the wrong way may leave the air non
breathable to a climber after a few short minutes. These errors happen every season on Everest, no
matter what the conditions are. Whether errors in judgement or just simple mistakes, accidents on
Mount Everest are caused by human error.
During pushes up the mountain, it is easy for climbers to make subtle decisions that may have grave
consequences later on the hike. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other physical errors involved the precious resource of oxygen atop the mountain. In one instance,
guide Andy Harris refused to believe that a portion of the oxygen canisters stored at the South Summit
contained oxygen, often reporting There s no oxygen here! (qtd. in ITA, 195) After research and tests
other climbers deduced that there was in fact a supply of oxygen just below the top of the mountain
where Harris stood. The misunderstanding by Harris was likely caused by a faulty oxygen register, but
his unwillingness to believe his own tests were wrong confused many struggling climbers. Harris
caused additional trouble while descending the mountain; he turned Jon Krakauer s oxygen level in
the wrong direction on his tank. This caused Krakauer to have a sudden surge of pure oxygen followed
by his canister running out of the gas. The mistakes by Harris and Krakauer caused Krakauer s
schedule of receiving oxygen to be thrown off balance, causing his descent to be severely tougher than
expected.
Climbers neglect of their own physical limitations also caused grief during the climb and descent. The
harsh winds and temperatures of the high altitudes unexpectedly tortured Beck Weathers, who had
undergone eye surgery months before the climb. The conditions caused Beck to lose almost all of his
vision, which obviously impacted his attempt at descending the mountain. If Beck had taken
precautions to

The Road Corridor As An Important Area For Future...
In 2006, The City of East Lansing referred to The Trowbridge Road Corridor as an important area for
future redevelopment in their Big Picture Comprehensive Plan. Being a main route to East Lansing
and Michigan State University it allows high visibility and access to and from the surrounding
neighborhoods. In order to encourage future development in this area, most of the properties along
that corridor needed to be redeveloped. Review for this project began in 2007. Due to the original
design for the car oriented area, the corridor and the surrounding land did not perfectly complement
each other. The addition of numerous curb cuts and disjointed interior vehicle connections increased
the dysfunction between cars and pedestrians. Pedestrian safety, highway and train noise, conditions
of the parking lot, heavy pass through traffic, depth of the parcels south of Trowbridge, and lack of
marketing focus are a few of the preexisting weaknesses of the site. River Caddis Developing is the
firm responsible for the development of the Trowbridge Village. River Caddis development has
acquired developed and/or redeveloped around two hundred million dollars of multifamily and
commercial assets in states throughout the country (McGraw, 2015). This project alone reached close
to 17 million dollars. Trowbridge Village offers students unique and new places to shop and dine in
the convenience of their backyard. In total the village stretches to almost 47,000 square feet.

Apollo Moon Landing Conspiracy Essay
Every epic moment in modern history inevitably spawns a tangled web of conspiracy theories, and the
Apollo moon landings are no exception. From the moment astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin
set foot on the lunar surface on July 21, 1969, some believed it was all an elaborate ruse staged by
NASA on a Hollywood soundstage in spite of the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. (Of course,
a different conspiracy camp believes man first landed on the moon a quarter century before the Apollo
astronauts when the Nazis established a top secret lunar base where Adolf Hitler lived out his final
years.)
Even the photographic evidence of the Apollo 11 astronauts on the moon has been seized by moon
landing conspiracy theorists as proof of the hoax. In particular, they point to an iconic color
photograph of Aldrin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Only it wasn t a studio light, but the man taking that photograph Armstrong. We found a clip of
videotape that was shot from the other side of the ladder, Daly said. There is a huge glowing bright
white light. And as we analyzed that video a little more we realized it s Neil Armstrong himself. The
bright white spacesuit that he was wearing reflected all that sunlight off of him and back onto Buzz
Aldrin so essentially Neil Armstrong himself was a light source in that scene.
While moon dust reflects about 12 percent of the sun s light, the spacesuits worn by the Apollo
astronauts were virtual mirrors constructed of materials that reflected 85 percent of the light that
struck them, and Armstrong was bathed in full sunlight as he took Aldrin s photograph. Once the
Nvidia engineers adjusted for the reflectivity of Armstrong s suit, the lighting in the virtual rendering
nearly matched the actual photograph and proved that Aldrin could have appeared illuminated in the
Eagle s shadow with the sun as the sole lighting

  • 2. Feminist Geography Feminist Geography Since its conception, geography has been involved in the development of races and genders, mapping the boundaries that separate and exclude the world of privilege from the other. The imposing eyes that facilitated this domination have recently been challenged to quash their perpetuation of racial difference, and although existing more obscurely, to challenge the sexist legacy remaining in geography. As part of geography, feminist approaches within our discipline take the same set of central concepts as their focus as other sub areas of geography. Thus over the decade feminist geographers have addressed three of the central concepts of the discipline space, place and nature and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The under representation that occurs at the moment can also be linked to similar practices occurring in the nineteenth century; the gendering of science in the nineteenth century effectively excluded women, both from science in general and those particular techniques that loosely constituted physical geography in the years before the institutionalization of the discipline (McEwan, 1998). This problem is not helped by the situation today that the differences in numbers of female human and physical geographers is negligible; women are almost equally likely to be physical geographers as they are to be human geographers (Bartram Shobrook, 1998). If this is the case, then feminist geography is definitely less about feminism and more about geography since we must first strive to explain this apparent phenomenon and then redress the balance. One explanation offered through feminist scholarship follows thus; in particular, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of The Awakening In Chopin s novel, The Awakening, she writes about a woman s desire to find and live fully within her true self during the 1890s in Louisiana. The woman, Edna Pontellier, is trying to find herself in the masculine society of Louisiana, leading her to cause friction with friends, family and the Creole society. Edna begins to feel a change; she begins to feel like a whole person with wants, interests and desires. She learns that she is not comfortable with being a wife and mother. The imagery of the parrot in the cage in Chopin s novel is being compared to Edna because it represents Edna s unspoken feelings and imprisonment. The sense of unspoken feelings and imprisonment of Edna causes her to put her own needs before her family. As Edna finds herself trying to satisfy the Creole society, she begins to feel isolated and confused. Through Edna s trace of freedom, she begins to undergo a transformation of self, slowly straying away from society, and taking control over her own actions and beliefs. Through obstacles to Edna s freedom, she learns that she does have control of her own body. The symbolism of the birds and the sea is used to symbolize Edna s struggle for independence. Chopin s character Edna Pontellier in The Awakening represents a caged bird that is not able act on how she feels. The caged birds serves as a reminder to Edna that she is caged in a role as a wife and mother, and she is not to think of herself. In general, the caged birds symbolize the role of ... • 5. Solar Renewable Energy System In brewing industry, 80% of overall final energy consumption is used in the form of thermal energy where solar thermal can be used for brewing processes as below: steam generation, malting process, stopping germination of grains, air cooling, conservation with hot air, power supplying of washing machines, wither and kiln processes. Malting plants and breweries consume heat for their thermally driven processes at temperature level ranges between 25°C to 120°C. It seems feasible to supply heat at this temperature level which is not higher than the actual amount required but in reality the it is often decided by the consumer which needs the highest temperature. The integration of solar renewable energy system is necessary to reduce the exergy losses and CO2 emissions [17,21,24,25]. To utilize the organic matter from brewing residues, optimized heat recovery can supply its thermal energy demand over resources. Theoretically, the full energy potential is not utilized so the pathway is the conventional means of energy. However, the conversion of heat from energy gained from renewable energy resources can ensure environment friendly beer production process for future. To increase the overall energy efficiency, the integration of solar heat energy gained from solar thermal collector technologies can be considered as a prospective alternative to fulfill the demands of typical low temperature process heat. 9.3. At its peak in 1712 (before the Treaty of Utrecht), the territory of New France extended from Newfoundland to the Rocky Mountains and from Hudson Bay to the Gulf of Mexico. The territory was divided in five colonies, each with its own administration: Canada, Acadia, Hudson Bay, Newfoundland and Louisiana. Also during this period, French Huguenots, sailing under Jean Ribault, attempted to found a colony in what became the southeastern coast of the United States. Arriving in 1562, they established the ephemeral colony of Charlesfort on Parris Island in what is now South Carolina. When this failed, most of the colonists followed René Goulaine de Laudonnière and moved south, founding the colony of Fort Caroline at the mouth of the St. Johns River in what is now Jacksonville, Florida on June 22, 1564. • 8. Summary Of Anselm s Ontological Argument Arguments for God are quite extensive, having taken many different forms throughout history and Anselm s Ontological argument stands as one of the most famous. Anselm s argument begins with the concept of God and, by using only a priori principles, attempts to establish the existence of God. His specific Argument goes as follows: That than which nothing greater can be conceived (God) exists in understanding, things are greater in reality than in understanding, therefore that than which nothing greater can be conceived must exist in reality. Anselm s argument fails in two ways Anselm falsely assumes that the God he proves, to exist, is supremely unique and the second assumption that existence is a quality that things can possess. Anselm believes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, why should existence in reality be either greater or worse? Why must a chair thought of in the mind be either greater or worse than a chair in reality? No qualities are added to a chair in reality when compared to one in the mind. Kant s famous argument against Anselm s is that existence is not a predicate. Existence is different than other qualities such as height or weight and cannot improve or degrade anything. When we talk about a chair it doesn t necessarily mean that this supposed chair either exists or doesn t we add that after. Rowe summarizes Kant s argument as follows, ... If existence were a predicate, the affirmative existential statement tigers exist would be a redundancy and the negative existential statement dragons do not exist would be contradictory (pg. 40). Ideas and concepts are essentially the same, whether they are tangible things within reality or thoughts of the mind. There are no added qualities that an idea gains through existing in reality. If a chair were thought up and then suddenly appeared in reality as an exact replica of the thought, there would be no discernible difference between the two. Existence is wholly separate from predicate s and this oversight by Anselm has led to a major flaw within his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Rhetorical Analysis Of Donald Trump s Election Of The... In November 2016, Donald Trump was elected president of the United States. With a campaign centered around otherization and nationalism, the atmosphere of this election, as well as the attitudes of the citizens of the country, bears similarities to 1930s Nazi Germany. While it may initially seem far fetched to compare Donald Trump s election to Adolf Hitler s rise to power, both campaigns utilize nationalistic, racist sentiment and a fear of the foreign other to gain power within the country. Moreover, both campaigns utilize propaganda and the media in their own way to generate hatred and fear to further their own goals. I will argue that these tactics used by Donald Trump has inspired numerous acts of hatred, and that any person who is not a white male has a reason to fear Trump s presidency. With any essay making a comparison of Hitler and the Nazis, the idea of Godwin s Law should come into question. Godwin s Law is a popular internet adage that states that as an argument goes on, the probability that someone compares the other person to Hitler or Nazis approaches 1. What this means is that when a discussion becomes heated, it becomes off topic, and any potential spreading of facts and information halts; instead, the participants in the discussion resort to name calling. Comparing someone to Hitler a man that is responsible for the deaths of 11 million people and is commonly referred to as the evilest man to have lived in recent times is akin to insulting ... Was your brain ever so tired that the only way you were able to stay awake was by daydreaming or talking to friends while the teacher was teaching? That is the case with many students in the United States. Not only does the current school schedule prove to be unproductive to students, but also adding longer hours to a school day can have more damaging effects than positive ones. In the 1970 s the school days used to be 5.5 hours with two recess breaks in the day and one extended lunch period where children were allowed to go home and eat. Now the school days are 6.5 hours with one recess break if the child is in elementary school, and a short lunch break. The public school system has been struggling for a while and the drop out rate has been increasing in a fast and steady speed. The solution to this problem, by the representatives of our city, is to add another two hours to the school day. This is not only happening in Chicago, but it is happening all across the country. If you look back at the 1970 s times where simpler, more family oriented, children were better behaved, and students did well academically. Strengths And Strengths Of An Individual Introduction Capitalizing on one s strengths and using a strengths based approach, rather than a weakness based approach to personal development has been proven to lead to extraordinary leadership. Focusing on the strengths that one holds as an individual will help one create a better understanding of the intrinsic motivations one holds, as well as emote the confident and realistic actions that are needed by leaders. For this reason, I will be going through the process of the Reflected Best Self exercise, developed by the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. By undertaking this significant exercise, I will be able to immerse myself in my strengths and find out what I have to offer myself, those close to me, as well as future and current associates, thereby helping me understand what kind of leader I am at the moment as well as finding out how I can become the leader I want to become. This in itself will serve as my best self portrait which will identify who I am at my best as well as being a conduit to understanding how to further develop my strengths. Initial Perspective on Strengths I have always thought of myself as being a very precise person. No matter what it is that I am doing, whether it be cleaning around the house, or doing my homework, I always take the time to do it thoroughly. I am able to do this because I develop a routine for everything I do, even if it is a new experience. I associate this to my need for having everything be orderly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

No matter a content is designed for a post or an advertisement, in order to employ such brief exposure wisely, it is important to devise it much like an orchestra and deliver a succinct message. Bone Cancer Exploring the Symptoms, Treatment, Prevention, and Statistics of Chondrosarcoma and Osteosarcoma Alexus Edwards Gabrielle Newton Ms. Knetter A1 Ronald Wilson Reagan College Preparatory IB High School Bone cancer is an uncommon disease that typically develops in the arm and leg bones (Mayo Clinic, 2015). Every year, there is an estimated 2,970 diagnoses made in the United States between all ages and genders (Cancer.net, 2014). The two most common types are osteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma, both of which share similar symptoms, treatment options, and survival rates. Bone cancer is defined as the uncontrolled growth of bone cells. The first recognizable symptoms are pain and tenderness in the bone. Other common signs include decreased mobility of a joint, fatigue, as well as anemia. Bone tumors are a clear indicator of bone cancer, however, they often go unnoticed until significant pain or injury has been acquired as a result. Apart from tumors, the symptoms of bone cancer are indecisive and can pertain to a number of medical conditions. This condition cannot be self diagnosed, but only determined through further inspection by a doctor. (Viswanatha, 2011). Essay on The Responsibility of Macbeth for his own Actions In the Elizabethan Era, society was highly suspicious of the power of supernatural forces and it was commonly accepted that one s life was governed by fate and was predetermined. Shakespeare s Macbeth challenges the Elizabethan ideology of fate by privileging that although Macbeth was a victim of his vaulting ambition (1:VII 27), he was ultimately responsible for his villainous actions. Shakespeare has foregounded certain events to privilege that a person has free will and a concience and the cosequences of going against one s conscience, thus challenging the assumption of the Elizabethan Era. Macbeth then began a series of murders to retain his fruitless crown (3:I 67), to be thus is nothing, but to be safely thus (3:I 54). It was Macbeth s latent ambition for power that caused his descent into evil. Shakespeare foregrounds that Macbeth was aware of and resposible for his actions, through conscience and free will, to illustrate that he was not a victim of supernatural forces. By doing this he is challeging the assumptions of the Elizabethan Era that supernatural forces and supernatural soliciting predetermine one s destiny. The hallucinations and ghostly apparitions are foreground not to illustrate supernatural interference, but to foreground Macbeth s guilty conscience. Macbeth struggles with his conscience, this humanises him and invites the audience to relate to him. Even before Macbeth had committed murder, his conscience was causing him to have qualms. Thus, the capacity of a track and the rotational delay both increase for positions nearer the outer edge of the disk. 12 What differences between CD and DVD account for the larger capacity of the latter? 1. Bits are packed more closely on a DVD. The spacing between loops of a spiral on a CD is 1.6 µm and the minimum distance between pits along the spiral is 0.834 µm. The DVD uses a laser with shorter wavelength and achieves a loop spacing of 0.74 µm and a minimum distance between pits of 0.4 µm. The result of these two improvements is about a seven fold increase in capacity, to about 4.7 GB. 2. The DVD employs a second layer of pits and lands on top of the first layer A dual layer DVD has a semireflective layer on top of the reflective layer, and by adjusting focus, the lasers in DVD drives can read each layer separately. This technique almost doubles the capacity of the disk, to about 8.5 GB. The lower reflectivity of the second layer limits its storage capacity so that a full doubling is not achieved. 3. They understood that there was a fiery chasm constantly spewing molten lava. But what was underneath all of that magma, was there anything else? It would take thousands of years before a scientist could create a viable hypothesis for the core of the Earth. According to Edmund Mathez of the American Museum of Natural history, Inge Lehman, a Danish seismologist, published a paper in 1936 that suggested there was a solid inner core to the Earth, as well as a liquid outer core (Mathez, 2001). With the technology that we have now that Lehman did not have, we have furthered the understanding of our planet s core, which has led to a greater understanding of the entire workings of our planet. BBC s The Core is a documentary that helps deliver that understanding of the core to the public so that they may understand what is happening with the world below its people. The documentary begins with more mysterious information, discussing problems that NASA had with the Hubble telescope on an almost daily basis. In February of 1997, once a day, the Hubble telescope would flicker on and off. There was fear that a total loss of the expensive telescope was eminent. The three most well known, and arguably most important, musical eras in western civilizations would be the; medieval, Renaissance and Baroque time periods. With the basics of music with Gregorian chant and organum from the medieval era to the newfound polyphony texture from the Renaissance and the equal temperament and major minor tonality of the baroque era; Each time period brings a part of the foundation that most past, present, and future music is and will be based on. While it may seem that these three eras or completely different, they do contain several underlying similarities. Beginning at around 476 AD, the medieval era is mostly related to the church as most music from this era is sacred. The style of this era, the Gregorian chant is monophonic only comprising of the plainchant (or the single line melodies of early church music) in texture only comprising of the plainchant (or the single line melodies of early church music). Although the story seems to be completely original and made of fresh ideas, it is actually influenced by previous literature, like other common novels. Many legends of King Arthur, with unknown authors, influenced J.R.R. Tolkien s The Hobbit. Several points and ideas in the Arthurian story The Sword in the Stone are also reflected in The Hobbit. One theme in this story is that one shouldn t have a bias towards who can do something and who cannot. For instance, in The Hobbit, the dwarves believe that Bilbo can t be a good burglar and help them with their task because he is a hobbit. Although it is unclear as to who invented the first latrine, for Homo sapiens, public toilets are one of the major markers for sophistication as a species. With eradicating unrestricted urination and defecation behaviors, this helps humans to keep cities clean and overall reduces the risk of disease. With this knowledge at hand, one could infer that other mammals have adapted this same behavior of sharing toilet spaces. In fact, rather than excreting randomly, many mammals have specific sites assigned for this activity. These sites are assigned to specific locations that are away from where the animals reside to sleep and feed. However, where Homo sapiens differ from other mammals, is that human public toilets are designed primarily for sanitation purposes. As described by the United Nations, World Toilet Day, on 19 November, is about taking action to reach the 2.4 billion people living without a toilet, (UN 2016). The United Nations then further express how sanitation is a global development priority, and how sanitation, or lack of, can impact the livelihood of people (UN 2016). In contrast, other mammal communal latrines serve a more unique purpose than just health. Nothing is more valuable to a man than a friendship, not even the love of a woman; it is only a man, after all, who can understand another man. To seventeenth century men, friendship (just like everything else) is a male blessing a patriarchal gift not for women. Female friendship was impossible, for an amicable and supportive relationship between women could never exist. Platonic friendships existed between men, not women. Relationship Between Mexico And Mexico The relationship of the United States and Mexico goes back centuries and the importance of this relationship has gained more attention over the last decade. This relationship has gained attention due to the enormous amount of problems Mexico is having economically and socially. These influences on our country are vital and play a pivotal role in our economy and rapport with Mexico. • 31. Leadership Vs. Roman s Legacy I have had 20 leaders during in my years in the Army. Some good and some bad, but none have left a lasting legacy that I would want to emulate. None until spring 2014, when CSM Roman took over as my Battalion Command Sergeant Major and changed my outlook on what a true expert and professional is supposed to exemplify. Due to my interaction with him, I have decided that CSM Gregory Roman is my leader of influence. If there were more leaders like CSM Roman, then the Army as we know it would be in a much better position. My first interaction with CSM Roman was very brief, not to mention very embarrassing. I was attending a NCO of the Quarter board just before he took over responsibility of my battalion. I wanted to leave a lasting impression on him, but that was not the way I wanted. I wanted him to see a hard working Staff Sergeant who was confident and knowledgeable. Needless to say, I failed miserably. The look on his face when I walked out of that room is an image that I ll never forget. A few days passed before our next encounter. He pulled me aside, spoke to me about my performance, and told me I know you can do better than that . • 32. First Language Acquisition And The Doubt Towards... Due to the development in first language acquisition and the doubt towards contrastive analysis which has deemed that all errors made by language learners are caused by the interference from the mother tongue, error analysis, a response to and an alternative of contrastive analysis and an approach influenced by behaviourism was given birth to and become increasingly popular among researchers and teachers who began paying more attention on and shifting the interest in the errors made by second language learners in the 1960s and 1970s (Mitchell, Myles and Marsden, 2013). Central to the notion of error analysis is that it is a process where learners errors are collected and analysed in order to get some implication from the results (Brown, 1987, p. 17; Corder, 1967; Khansir, 2012) and the purpose of error analysis according to Corder (1974, p. 170) is to find what the learner know and does not know and to ultimately enable the teacher to supply him not just with the information that his hypothesis is wrong, importantly, with the right sort of information or data for him to form a more adequate concept of rule in the target language . Moreover, Gass and Selinker (2008) also agree that second language learners errors can provide information about their knowledge of the system. To know how error analysis works, firstly it should know what an error is and its possible sources. When it comes to the definition of errors, many researchers have given their own ideas. Corder ... • 33. James Joyce Essay Introduction to Literature An initiation in James Joyce s story Araby Many times in life, people set unrealistic expectations for themselves or for other people. This is not a very wise thing to do because people often feel disappointed and embarrassed for getting their hopes up so high. One good example of this is the narrator in the short story Araby by James Joyce. In his brief but complex story James Joyce concentrates on character rather than on plot to reveal the ironies within self deception. On its simplest level, Araby is a story about a boy s first love. On a deeper level, it is a story about the world he lives in that is full of ideals and dreams. Araby is a story of initiation, of a boy s quest for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second thing that has an impact on protagonist s life view is the culture and life in Dublin. But on the rest of the people from this city. Children have to go to Christian school, where the discipline is strict. That can be inferred from the very first sentence of the story: North Richmond Street, being blind, was a quiet street except at the hour when the Christian Brothers School set the boys free. Another thing that can be noticed about the boy s religious belonging is in the way he acts: All my senses seemed to desire to veil themselves and, feeling that I was about to slip from them, I pressed the palms of my hands together until they trembled, murmuring: O love! O love! many times. (p. 434) This sentence can be interpreted as though he does the thing he is used to do every time he happens to be in difficult situation. These facts play a huge role in the forming of this boy s character and his life. Overvalue of boy s attitude towards life in Araby is supported by the circumstances the boy had to face up with that are used as imagery of light and darkness. Darkness is used throughout the story as the prevailing theme. The boy is young and naive and he leads a dull and boring life. Joyce uses dark and obscure references to make the boy s reality of living in the gloomy town more vivid. Darkness, in addition to despair, represents the reality and truth in the narrator s circumstances. The author uses dark references to create the mood or atmosphere ... Only if we act to improve water use in agriculture will we meet the acute freshwater challenges facing humankind over the coming 50 years [4]. As the world changes over the next fifty years, the water struggles that we endure will be seen in the food production around the world. There are many factors that contribute to this occurring, including global climate change, the increase in water security vulnerability, and the phenomenon that the world has hit peak water. The world s population has also changed their average diet over the past 50 years, to consuming more meat and more calories in general [4]. This dietary change means that each person requires more water to produce their food than in previous generations. In the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) countries as much as 50% of their food is imported [1]. These countries are currently seeing the troubles of not having enough water to grow and supply them with enough food. In the future other regions of the world may become less inclined to trade with the MENA countries, because their own countries are consuming all of their food. The region has suffered from a decline in water availability which is only projected to decline even further in the next few decades [1]. The struggles of this region could be a preview for many other regions around the world if the water shortages continue as projected. By ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One cannot simply travel on a plane without going through the metal detectors or being instructed to take off his or her shoes to check for bombs. Many travelers regard the TSA to be a hassle, as it adds hours into the process of boarding a flight. Some treat it as a necessary evil; they believe that the presence of the TSA is needed to offset the vulnerable state of airports. However, the need for safety does not mean that the TSA is completely justified. The Transportation Security Administration fails to do its job in serving the public. Its policies and practices infringe on people s privacy, have questionable effectiveness, and pose health risks, while its employees behave unprofessionally and have inadequate training for their jobs. Alternative security measures and internal reform will help the Transportation Security Administration do its job better and raise public opinion. The year 2001 marked a radical shift in behavior at airports. Whereas before there were few restrictions on baggage items, after the September 11 tragedy, the U.S. government significantly tightened regulations regarding what could be taken on a plane. The misunderstanding by Harris was likely caused by a faulty oxygen register, but his unwillingness to believe his own tests were wrong confused many struggling climbers. Harris caused additional trouble while descending the mountain; he turned Jon Krakauer s oxygen level in the wrong direction on his tank. This caused Krakauer to have a sudden surge of pure oxygen followed by his canister running out of the gas. The mistakes by Harris and Krakauer caused Krakauer s schedule of receiving oxygen to be thrown off balance, causing his descent to be severely tougher than expected. In order to encourage future development in this area, most of the properties along that corridor needed to be redeveloped. Review for this project began in 2007.
