Social Implications Of Business Ethics
Akram Hussain
Unit 37 Assignment 3
Social implications of business ethics
Introduction
In this assignment I have been asked to describe the social implications of business ethics facing a
selected business in its different areas of activity. I have then been asked to assess these social
implications of business ethics.
The business organisation I have chosen for this assignment is Boots .
Social implications (P3)
Social implication is a term used to describe the actions of a business that will have an impact on
society as a whole. These could be ethical practises or unethical practises.
There are many different social implications a business might have, these social implications are
highlighted by the way a business will chose to operate. The different social implications a business
might have are related to different areas or departments of activity within a business.
These different areas of activity are:
Ethics in finance
Ethics in production
Ethics in human resources management
Ethics in sales and marketing
Ethics in finance
Ethics in finance is a very important factor to consider when dealing with social implications. There
are lots of unethical behaviour within finance. The main aim for most business organisations is to
generate profit, if something stands in the way of this, a business may chose to use unethical practises
to get around the issue.
Ethics in finance can be broken down into different factors such as, bribery, payday loans, insider

Essay about Macklemore Otherside Analysis
Otherside Macklemore We live on the cusp of death thinking that it won t be us, (l.32). Macklemore is
saying that people think that they will not die from doing drugs. In this song Macklemore is stating
that drugs can be really addictive also he states that drugs can really mess you up and how media
influences you to do drugs, for example rappers like Lil Wayne which he talks about in this song and
Wiz Kalifa. Strong poetic devices permeate throughout Macklemore s song Otherside for example he
uses allusions, repetition and end rhyme. An example of a poetic device that Macklemore uses in this
song is allusion. One allusion Macklemore uses is Groundhog Day life repeat each time (l.59).
Macklemore mentions the movie Groundhog Day the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is also saying to keep him on this high of making his music instead of using drugs to get high.
Macklemore uses repetition in his songs to help emphasize what he is talking about. One other poetic
device that Macklemore uses in his song is end rhyme. One form of end rhyme in his song would be,
there s no way to glorify this pavement/ syrup, Percocet, hit an eight a day will leave you broke
depressed and emotionally vacant, (ll.45 46). The rhyme in this line would be pavement and vacant
which is also a forced rhyme. He also states that if you become addicted to drugs you can go broke, go
into a type of depression and become emotionally vacant in other words destroy you. Another use of
end rhyme in this song would be, surprise, you know the drill/ trapped in a box, to climb record sales/
follow the formula violence, drugs and sex sells/ so we try to sound like someone else (ll.40 43). In
this line the words that would rhyme would be sales, sells, and else. Macklemore is also stating the
fakeness of today s rappers who tend to rap about drugs and things they haven t done when they
should be rapping about their lives and struggles they have been through. Macklemore uses end rhyme
to tie in certain lines that should be read together. Media can really affect how someone thinks or
looks at drugs and Macklemore helps explain this trough this song by using allusions, repetitions, and
end rhyme. This also applies to my life by

Dictatorship to Democracy Overnight in Indonesia
Dictatorship to Democracy Overnight
Indonesia is a country in Southeast Asia that was under a military dictatorship for 32 years. The
dictatorship era started after the failure of communist coup d état by Indonesia s Communist Party in
1966. General Suharto, the one who had the biggest role in failing the coup d état, ousted the first
president and established an autocratic anti communist regime known as the New Order, which
attracted political and economic support from Western governments during the Cold War. At the
beginning of this era, he said he would practice a kind of semi direct democracy, while later, even the
news in newspapers was controlled by the government. His era was ended in 1998 by a huge student
revolution and riots ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast to the New Order era government s reaction to separatist movements in Indonesia, the
reformation era government in its early days made a mistake by giving a referendum to East Timor, a
province in central Indonesia that had longed to form its own country since the New Order era. The
referendum was to stay with Indonesia or to stand as an independent country, and the province chose
the latter choice. This influenced other provinces that are not satisfied with the reformation era
government due to the centralized development in certain parts of the country to start separatist
movements.
Even though Indonesia was led by a dictator during 1966 1998, there were still elections during the
period. The election at that time was to elect one of the three political parties to get their members as
new members of House of Representatives. Since there were only three political parties, each time
there was going to be an election, the campaigns never ended up in chaos and the election ended in
peace. After General Suharto was ousted in 1998, there was some kind of a party craze , everyone
intended to make their own political party, without any limitation from the government. Consequently,
in the 1999 election, people had to choose from 48 political parties. It could be imagined how a
country that was still very unstable after a revolution, had an election with tons of

Real World Assessment Essay
Real World Assessment
For the real world assessment, I decided to go to a neighborhood community meeting. The meeting
that I decided to go to was assembled because of an incident that happened with a teacher who
previous taught at the elementary school. This teacher was caught with recording of individual,
students who previous and currently goes to the elementary school. This meeting took place on
September 19th, it represent a time for many of the parents and caretaker of the community to be able
to come and share their thoughts about the whole situation and how this would affect the community
as a whole. For one of the first time since I have been in Nashville I was capable of experiencing ...

There would be no boundary separating the school and the community. This would come in the form
of allowing parents and caretakers in the community a way to view the teachers that are being hired
and then be able to help with the school in ways that makes parents have to get involved with their
children. The school becomes more than just a place that parents just drop off their children and go
about their day. But it becomes a place that reassure parents that their children are safe, not by just
word of mouth, but by allowing parents to come and get a hands on experience with the school. One
thing that no one really mentioned was the impact that the community center has on the neighborhood.
It is the place that the people in the neighborhood can come to feel safe, the neutral ground of the
whole community. This is the Exosystem of the entire neighborhood, it is the place that all the
individual goes for technology, for food, and for safety. This could be the place that parents can come
and get information about what is going on with the school also, if the school partner with the

The Great Military Of The Nation State
With the rise of the nation state has come the need for a force to protect it and project its political will.
As nation states have grown, so too have the forces that protect it. Large armies that need to move any
distance from their home bases need to bring their supplies with them or procure them on the move.
Supplying these armies has always been a challenge, and it will continue to be a challenge in the
future. Many great military leaders faced these issues; the greatest advances in logistics did not appear
in warfare until the 17th century and many of them continued into the 21st century. These advances
were the beginning of modern military logistics and the basis of how nations supply their armies
today. Although the logistical systems continue to evolve in many ways during the past four centuries,
it still is not perfect. Since ancient times, states recognized that feeding an army was difficult and
multiple methods were employed in an attempt to meet the needs of soldiers. While in garrison, food
generally was not too difficult to procure. However, food was not always as readily available when
armies were on the march. The states had limited methods for dealing with the issue of supplying food
and other supplies, and when soldiers needs were not met, they began resorting to stealing, buying,
and plundering. In the 17th century, soldiers not receiving pay or food would do as they pleased,
raping, pillaging, and robbing those in nearby villages to

The Belief Systems That May Have An Impact On The...
The Belief Systems in Case Scenarios reflective writing I am submitting a paper on counsellors belief
systems that may have an impact on the therapeutic process. This paper discusses my perspective of
two case studies with different scenarios and is via my reflection of the cases. The aim and goal will
be to learn to write as the third person and gain insight. The method I will discuss will be from placing
me in the shoes of the counsellors , and walking in their shoes.
Ricoeur calls this a narrative commitment , where we follow the other
literally walking in their shoes for an insight into where the other comes from . (Ricoeur, n.d., as cited

(2005), explains that something within the projection could hook someone else in a negative way. In
addition, Rizq, R. (2005) defines projective identification as a development within the therapeutic
process resulting in feelings and thoughts conceivably affecting someone else and maybe reversed
from client to counsellor as well. Alternatively, the counsellor may have unconsciously brought,
proactive countertransference, Clarkson, P, (2002) to the process. Proactive countertransference is
defined as thoughts, feelings, and the ambience that are introduced into the process by the counsellor.
However, in saying this, if the counsellor was consciously awareness of this within the process they
may effectively be able to develop or could consider using this in helping them understand the client.
Additional attributes of the counsellor were wounds that appeared in the counsellor s thoughts, (a)
mistrust of others, and (b) a presumption that relationships fall apart due to hiding their secrets. This
also infers, by placing trust in a relationship we are likely to be deceived and deserted. My hypotheses
were the counsellor could impose an espoused theory, Argyris and Schön, (1978) explains where the
actions of the counsellor will differ in enacting the theory in use, which may impose implicit thoughts
that are assumed and decided. There could be consequents from a blind spot or wound of the
counsellor and this could predetermine the relationship before any therapeutic

Utopia And Leviathan
Thomas More sUtopia and Thomas Hobbes Leviathan each offer alternatives to the worlds in which
they lived.. More s society, viewed through the character Hythloday, is seemingly based on man s
nature in society being generally good, and the faults of man emanate from how society itself is set up.
Hobbes takes the opposite view of human nature, where man s will to survive makes him unable to act
out of goodness and it is man who is responsible for society s ills.
Both Leviathan and Utopia contain faults in logic that work to undermine the very possibility for these
new social structures. In the following I will show how each of their views for a new society give
insight into what their beliefs of human nature are, while showing some ... Show more content on

Close inspection of these rules give insight into how More may have really viewed human nature. In
the following excerpts we find evidence that More may have found man untrustworthy and in need of
social control, or at the very least spiritual control.
The vast majority of Utopians ¦ believe in a single power, unknown, eternal, infinite, inexplicable, far
beyond the grasp of the human mind, and diffused throughout the universe, not physically but in
influence. Him they call father, and to him alone they attribute the origin, increase, progress, change,
and end of all visible things; they do not offer divine honors to any other. ¦ (Utopus) left the whole
matter (choosing a religion) open, allowing each person to choose what he would believe. The only
exception was a positive and strict law against anyone who would sink so far below the dignity of
human nature as to think that the soul perishes with the body, or that the universe is ruled by blind
chance, not divine providence. ¦ Therefore a man who holds such views is offered no honors, entrusted
with no offices, and given no public responsibility, he is universally regarded as a low and sordid
fellow (pp.516 518 This excerpt shows the ambivalence that More has about human nature. He sees
man as essentially good but whenever an individual has ideas of their own they are regarded as
inferior. This creates another

We have Crawfish signs start popping up like jonquils in early spring and restaurants can hardly open

The Cyber Security Vulnerabilities Faced By Different...
In today society, Information Technology (IT) managers are facing their fears of different cyber
security vulnerabilities faced by different network. The vulnerabilities being either unknown or known
makes it challenging for an Information Technology manager to keep the network secure.
Organizations prefer to deal with wireless network because of what it can offer. According to Cisco,
wireless networks are a powerful tool for boosting productivity and encouraging information sharing.
With untethered access to documents, emails, applications and other network resources, employees
can roam where they need to and have constant access to the tools required to do their jobs (Five
Reasons to Go Wireless). Dealing with wireless network it allows employees or guest to browse
without losing connection in the building. Wireless network has been an option for companies to have
because it s easy to set up and cheaper to implement. When it comes to network expansion, company
may find this a better option to get access to information because it allows business transport data over
networks (Dean). Wireless network is now common in business and home network and necessary in
some specialized network environments however; from an IT manager s perspective it could be a
nightmare. When talking about network vulnerabilities, wireless connection used on a personal or
business network is one of the major vulnerability. A device having access on a wireless network on

Geoffrey Chaucer s Bath And The Miller s Tale Essay
Geoffrey Chaucer, the author of The Canterbury Tales, writes these stories to express a variety of
themes and lessons. One of these themes is the fidelity or loyalty in marriages during the late thirteen
hundreds. Chaucer uses a collection of pilgrims and their tales to portray the main types of marriage
during this time. These views are narrowed down to three main types and they are the feminine view,
the courtly view, and the common or fabliaux view. These main types are seen in The Wife of Bath s
Prologue and Tale, The Franklin s Tale, and The Miller s Tale. During this time period, a few women
had a very feminist view on the idea of marriage. This is the idea that women should have freedom in
the marriage and be able to do the same things in the community as her husband. This also means that
in the context of the marriage, the wife should be the most powerful and have control over her
husband. This was especially expressed from the Wife of Bath as she speaks of her views in her
prologue and her tale. In the Wife of Bath s prologue, she tells that she has had four husbands before
the one she has now and that she is not ashamed of her lack of virginity even as some of the
community members look down on her. She doesn t think it s fair that if a woman has more than one
husband in her lifetime, she is frowned upon, but it is acceptable for men to remarry several times
(Marcotte). The Wife of Bath wants to have equality as a female in the social aspects of her marriage.

Affordable Care Act Case Study
The fertility rate is an important factor when evaluating the health of the public. Despite the United
States having one of the best healthcare systems in the world, approximately 13% of women between
the age of 18 44 have trouble conceiving. Although the US has implemented the Patient Protection and
Affordable Care Act, a landmark policy, assisting millions of Americans in obtaining health insurance,
unless altered, the policy could hurt the 3 out of 20 women who struggle with infertility. After
evaluating the core essential benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the views of stakeholders, and the
state mandates, an easy solution can be established to assist those suffering from impaired fecundity.

Some states cover In Vitro Fertilization and other medically aided insemination procedures, while
other states only cover pharmaceutical therapy. Some of the states who offer the use of advanced
reproductive technologies, places limits on lifetime attempts, similarly states who only offer drug

with a mandate.
The level of coverage tends to reflect the views of the individual state, and their constituents. States
who are highly influenced by the religious facets of society often put limits of the list of approved
interventions. In 2009 the Catholic Church stated The church has compassion for couples suffering
from infertility and want to be of real help to them. At the same time, some reproductive technologies

Human Services And The Legal Justice System Essay
At the beginning of the year looking for classes to take Human Services stood out to me. Although not
really knowing the meaning of human services, I believed it was about helping people and that s
something I have always been very passionate about. I am always the friend who is giving advice and
hearing out my friends dilemmas and situations. The definition of Human services in our book is: a
phrase that is often used to group activities that focus on helping people live better lives. In a vague
way, the human services include formal systems such as government welfare programs, education,
mental retardation services, mental health organizations, child care programs, physical health care
establishments, and the correctional services of the legal justice system. The definition of a human
service worker is: Anyone who is trained or educated in helping activities. A person who does not
have traditional professional academic credentials but who, through experience, training, or education,
provides helping services. When this project of interviewing a human service worker and learning in
depth how they do their job, and how they help others it was something that I was pretty excited
about. The process on how I found the human service corporation I would interview was pretty
difficult since all of the ones I was interested at first were taken. Going through the process to

Essay about Children’s Literature in Jamaica
Children s Literature in Jamaica
As children in the United States, we grow up listening to the stories of Dr. Seuss and Curious George
as we fall off to sleep to the sound of our parent s voices echoing in our dreams. As we start to grow
older and the poetry of Shel Silverstein s, Where the Sidewalk Ends no longer holds our imagination
as much as it did at eight years old, we begin to read stories that are a reflection of the environment we
live within. We engaged ourselves in the lives of such characters as the Hardy Boys and Willy Wonka.
What these stories lacked however, are the social issues that are ever present in today s society. Not all

Children s folklore and literature thrives in the stories of Anancy. Anancy is an indestructible and
irresistible spider who is both, fooler and fool, maker and unmade, wily and stupid, subtle and gross,
the High God s accomplice and his rival. (Dance, 11) Anancy is generally a figure of admiration
whose cunning and scheming nature reflects the indirection and subtleties necessary for survival and
occasionally victory for the Black man in a racist society.
In Jamaica, Anancy, the descendant of a West African deity takes on special significance in a society,
which has its roots in a system of slavery. It is as though every slave strove to be Anancy and he who
achieved the Spider form became a kind of hero. Anancy s greatest attributes however, are his
character flaws. Anancy is far from a perfect folk hero, and many of his characteristics are egotistical,
selfish, and ignorant. Regardless of the wealth of character flaws he possesses, Anancy has an
irresistibility that has been preserved in its most uncorrupted form. As Rex Nettleford states in his
introduction to Walter Jekyll s, Jamaican Song and Story, in order to cope with an unstraight and
crooked world one needs unstraight and crooked paths. (Jekyll, xiii) As a child, playwright and author,
Louise Bennett recalls that everything that happened in the world was caused by Anancy. (Jekyll, ix)

design concepts into an established theme, convinced its fans that its inexpensive style is that of
luxury, and coaxed its customers into thinking that its menu choices are a blessing, not an
inconvenience. It has twisted its incompetence into a competitive strategy a true deviant that still

of the giant that has become The Cheesecake Factory.
The Cheesecake Factory, according to its CEO David Overton, has broken all the rules in order to

Porter s understood and standardized theories of low cost versus differentiation (Porter, 1980, 35 and

Developing A New Generation Of Empowered And Informed...
Education is an incredibly important resource to help create a new generation of empowered and
informed individuals, which can lead to improvements in overcoming inequality or poverty. Without
receiving education, children are being excluded from opportunities to better their future and current
situation, which is especially critical for impoverished families or marginalized groups. However, the
current education system throughout most of the continent seems to exclude the people who need it
the most. While many countries claim free primary education, 44% families still have some form of
payments to schools, with an average fee of $4.16 per year per child. This is excluding the fact that
many families do not send their children to schools ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kenya in particular faces difficulty in getting universal primary and secondary education. Youth
unemployment is around 20% for people age 15 16 in Kenya, and in 2009 of the people working, 84%
had informal jobs, making them vulnerable workers. These issues can be prevented for the future by
making sure that all children have access to strong educational foundation through primary and
secondary schools to then go on to tertiary and university to reinvest into their communities. Strides
have been made such as making enrollment free, which led to many new students, but one million
children are still out of school in Kenya. While this policy has made some accomplishment, children
in less developed areas such as slums or informal settlements, do not have an equal access to public
free schooling and instead go to private schools with low fees. This has led to an increase in the
privatizing of education in Kenya. Over 60% of Nairobi s children attend these private schools, which
can put extreme strain on a low income family. The public schools themselves have questionable
quality, with the government no longer receiving tuition money to invest in the schools and relying on
taxes. There is a lack of teachers, and due to lack of funds in 2015 many Kenyan teachers went on
strike for not getting paid. Also there is concern over the quality, as public primary education 45% of
students qualified

The Price Of Persecution By Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye
The Price of Persecution
The plight of the weak against the powerful is one of the oldest and compelling stories that can be
told, and it has always been the story of race in the United States. Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye is a
candid look into the lives of African Americans in the early 1940 s, focusing on the drama surrounding
the coming of age of young girls. The debilitating effects of racism, sexism, and classism on children
and adults of different social statuses are explored through the stories of a number of families. By
illustrating a society in which each class elevates itself by oppressing those below them, Morrison
demonstrates how the cyclical nature of oppression can cripple a community and family for
generations. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

connection with the boys whose hardness... and wild blackness (87) he admires. However, he
eventually internalizes the message that the shade of his skin renders him superior to his peers and he
decides to avoid contact with them. Geraldine s obsession with pedantic distinctions between different
groups of black residents in Lorain leads her son and the whole next generation to preserve the biases
of their parents. The maltreatment practiced by those of mixed race has a real impact on those they
perceive as inferior. Maureen Peal is a wealthy mixed race girl that moves to Pecola s school. She
enters Pecola s narrative by holding some boys intent on harrassing Pecola at bay and starts a friendly
conversation with her. Soon after, she turns on Pecola and feeling her image being threatened yells I
am cute! And you ugly! Black and ugly black e mos. I am cute! (73). Pecola, who had idolized
Maureen for her cute looks and popularity, is devastated. The repetition in Maureen s declaration
mirrors the constancy of society s message to young black girls like Pecola: she is not valuable, and it
is because of her race. Maureen, as a person of mixed race, is hardly the model most white children
would aspire to. She possesses only an increment of superiority over girls like Pecola, but that slight
advantage allows her to show disdain to the lesser

Essay on IPhone vs. Android
I am going to be telling you which is better IPhone or Android and the reasons why it is and isn t. The
IPhone is better because it is more simplistic and in my opinion easier to use. The IPhone has sold 421

it s simpler than the droid on any day.

Definition Of Coolness
It happens once again. The cliché never fails to rear its ugly head, as Plain Jain and her normal friends
watch the cool kids, with their nice clothes and fancy backpacks, roll down the block in a new BMW.
This scene seems to happen so often, and the result always appears to be the same: Plain Jain and her
normal friends are envious, and the cool kids roll along without a care in the world. Then again, if you
observe this scene more carefully, there is more content than most people would suspect. It is possible
that the roles are entirely reversed. The cool kids may be Plain Jain and her normal friends, and the
uncool kids may be stylish kids with loads of money. There is no official definition of cool that gives
legitimacy to their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then again, that may not be true. The root of coolness can be the exact opposite of the general
definition. Coolness may begin with self rather than others. Coolness can mean being comfortable
with yourself, smiling in front of the mirror, or being completely satisfied with your identity. Everyone
praises the supposed cool kids who run the school or flaunt their cash, but the cool kids might be the
most uncool people. They do not have any reason to be defined as cool. There are no real world
elements that give legitimacy to their coolness. Others must define their coolness, but that coolness
immediately dissipates when those others are gone. The ignorant public does not know about the
many hours dressing for style, the shopping for expensive clothes, and the sitting behind closed doors.
These cool people are not cool in these moments. They are simply servants to the public, trying so
desperately to impress the public eye that will easily turn a blind eye for the next best piece of eye
candy. There is nothing cool about spending your life trying to impress everyone else when you have
yet to impress yourself. At the end of the day, behind all of that makeup, behind the nice cars, and
behind all of that false sense of glamour, what is really left? Just an empty shell of a person who has

William Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew
William Shakespeare s The Taming of the Shrew is a controversial comedy that has more than 1
interpretation. The 2 prominent interpretations is that it a misogynistic play or that it is a love story
about a man liberating a woman. This play has been adapted into any movies the 2 that were studied
were The Taming of the Shrew , produced in 1967 and 10 Things I Hate About You , made in 1999.
Upon viewing these 2 movies I found that The Taming of the Shrew had a great deal of misogyny
throughout the plot. However, I found 10 Things I Hate About You was portrayed as a love story and

wedding Kate gives a speech about being a good wife and obey their husbands. I found this movie
misogynistic, Katerina was wild and shrewish, however that is no valid reason to physiologically
abuse her. I took this as Shakespeare has created a character that tests society s boundaries and
challenges the people s beliefs, but she is then forced to marry and she is tamed . In a way
Shakespeare is sending a message that if a woman challenges society they will end up the same as all
of the other woman, obedient and a business deal. This may be ok in the Elizabethan era but in today s
society this is unacceptable it s basically domestic violence. For this reason I believe Petruchio s
behavior is horrible. He abused her for a game. In the end when Katerina gives a speech to the crowd
shows that she has succumb to the falconry .

Parental Leave Policy Analysis
Parental Leave
The need for paid family leave has always been there, but finally is coming to the forefront of the
presidential election in 2016. Both democratic front runners have policies that they have spoken about
openly and even a few republicans had some bare bones policies, but those politicians did not make it
this far. The best and most inclusive policy in my opinion is the one of Bernie Sanders. Sanders
supports and is cosponsoring the FAMILY Act which would provide 12 weeks of paid family and
medical leave to care for a sick loved one or for the birth of a child. Also, he supports the Healthy
Families act that would guarantee 7 days of paid sick leave to every worker. The last part of his plan is

Finally, as millennials start to gain some power and pull in the workforce after graduating from
college and starting families of their own it is starting to get some traction. The generation as a whole
is not willing to compromise their work life balance to fit the societal norm (Gilbert, 2011). The
demands of the generation that is larger than baby boomers will not be stifled, especially when the
United States has many countries to catch up to when it comes to workers rights policies like family
leave. It is estimated that millennials will be over 50% of the workforce in the next 4 years (PWC,
2016). That kind of majority in the workforce and thus voting population forces change and opens
windows for policy makers that have been patiently waiting in the wings for the chance to push their
policies through. Sanders policies that he is supporting and co sponsoring are a perfect example of
this. Sanders has supported family leave since the early 1980s but did not have the policy window to
push his policy through. Power structure within society is something else that is changing with the
millennial generation. Millennials are a generation that is very aware of who has power in society and
why they have it. As a whole they are fighting to reverse the inequity and racism that is often found
within that power. Many studies such as Social Change Impact Report, 2014

Customer Information Whenever a customer gives you personal or classified information to complete
an application, transaction, or another request, you owe them protection and privacy. If data you have
in your possession is leaked whether on purpose or carelessly, you could be held accountable. One of
the distinguished biggest mistakes small businesses make is using a shared server to keep their files in.
It makes sense why shared servers are chosen, they re cheap and very acceptable, but when you look
at the future consequences, it becomes clear that the upfront savings aren t worth the long term risks.
Even if you need to cut costs in other areas to make it happen, it s critically important that you switch
your business over to a dedicated server. When you use a dedicated server, you no longer must run
your websites, programs, and scripts on the same machine as other companies and individuals. This
means you instantly increase your security and don t have to deal with the risk of being hacked by an
outside party within your own server. Few things are as important as data encryption in today s cyber
security field. While it s best to prevent hackers from gaining access to your systems in the first place,
encryption technology essentially renders your data useless, should it wind up in the wrong hands. Be

Kant s Philosophy on the Metaphysical World Explained in...
In the Critique of Pure Reason, philosopher Immanuel Kant aims to thoroughly explain his philosophy
of the metaphysical world. Within the Transcendental Aesthetic, Kant focuses on confirming that
space and time are a priori intuitions. He provides reasoning and arguments as to why they are
transcendentally ideal but empirically real, making space and time subjectively necessary for
experiences. Simultaneously, Kant distinguishes space and time from secondary qualities, which
belong to our senses through experience, by confirming that unlike space and time, secondary
qualities are not empirically real. Kant does run into conflicts with his theory, he still successfully
claims that space and time are transcendentally ideal but empirically real, as well as distinguish them
from secondary qualities by supporting his theories with reasoning. Kant s theory of transcendental
idealism states that human beings only experience appearances and not things in themselves (Rohlf).
Space and time are transcendentally ideal because they allow us to perceive things in themselves. This
means that space and time are only forms in which properties of objects appear and not properties of
things in themselves. Therefore, space and time are not self subsistent and nor are they substances that
have properties. Kant draws two conclusions for space and three conclusions for time. In conclusion
(a), Kant states that space and time do not have properties of things in themselves (A26/B42). He also

Is The Moral Of The Last Battle Of Ottainawa By Robert Leckie
Robert Leckie s book, Okinawa: The Last Battle of World War II, is entirely about one of World War
II s most brutally fought battles. On April 1, 1945, the U.S. invaded Japan, attacking the island of
Okinawa with 540,000 U.S. Army and Marines, and 1,600 ships. L Day was the official name for this
day. The L stood for Landing, but the Americans who invaded the Hagushi Beaches that day without
any trouble from the Japanese, called it Love Day. This battle was the last battle of World War II and
lasted a whopping eighty three days. This invasion greatly outnumbered D Day in weapons and in
men.
Former Marine and Pacific War veteran, Robert Leckie describes this battle in depth, not only telling

Leckie does not describe individuals weighing their costs and benefits or the choice they decide to
make. He does a great job of descriptively covering the events of the Okinawa invasion and does not
tell the story from one particular point of view. However, I believe a better understanding of
economics could help make this book better.
One of the routes Leckie could have went about to describe if this battle was rational or not was to talk
about the length of the war. Was eighty three days of fighting rational? Most regular people would say
that this is not rational. Not only did thousands of men lose their lives, but all the weapons or ships
that were damaged or destroyed was very costly. Don t forget the opportunity cost of the income that
could have been earned in other lines of work. These are only a few of the costs that this battle
brought on for not only the Americans but the Japanese as well. On the other hand, the major benefit
from this battle was the fact that Okinawa would be an essential springboard to victory for the Allies.
From Okinawa, the Allies could attack the mainland by air or sea and ultimately win the war. These
eighty three days were necessary in order to strategically invade this island and eventually invade and
control Japan.
From an economic standpoint I believe that this battle was rational, and it needed to be fought in order
to end the entire war. Although the length of this battle was not ideal, it still needed to be fought in
order

Carlos Museum Experience
After Visiting the Carlos Museum, it became evident to me that the ethics of displaying human
remains is more nuanced than I had originally realized. Some cultures, such as the ancient Egyptians,
are thought to have striven to be eternalized through mummification, and therefore would have wanted
to be put on display. On the other hand, some cultures, like Native Americans, can explicitly tells us
that they do not want their remains to be put on display. Furthermore, I learned from this experience
that a corpse s treatment right after its death is often an indicator for how a person was viewed in life.
The curators and conservers at the Carlos Museum take into account the culture from which remains
come, whether a body is in a state that is dignified, and if it is necessary in the first place to display the
body. For example, one Old Kingdom mummy (the only one in the Western Hemisphere) was

The experience at the Carlos Museum brought to my attention the great detail that goes into not only

Hemostasis Essay
Hemostasis is the stoppage of blood flow. In order to do this our body s rely on an adequate amount of
platelets, normal levels of coagulation factors, and absence of defects in vessels walls (Huether and

In platelet disorders both quantitative and qualitative factors can interrupt normal blood coagulation
which prevent hemostasis (Huether and McCance 541). Quantitative abnormalities in a platelet
disorder would be an increase or decrease in the number of platelets disorders that are involved with
this issue are thrombocythemia and thrombocytopenia (Huether and McCance 540).
Thrombocythemia is an increase in the number of platelets and thrombocytopenia is a decrease in the

coagulation disorders are caused by pathologic conditions such as a cardiovascular abnormality that

Communication And Its Effects On Employees s Perceptions...
Introduction
Communication and its effects on employee s perceptions towards organizational changes have been
extensively studied. Communication, if poorly managed, can lead to negative consequences including
employee s frustration, uncertainty, change contempt (Frahm Brown (2007), Bordia, Hunt, Paulsen
(2004)), psychological strain, low job satisfaction, and increase in turnover intention (Bordia, Hunt,
Paulsen (2004)). If effectively managed, communication can result in multiple positive effects such as
employee s positive perception towards change process, change acceptance (Frahm Brown (2007)),
perception of justice within the organization (Nese (2014)), and change based momentum (Jansen
(2004)). In this paper, I would like to explore how two communication approaches programmatic and
participatory can be used to improve employee s positive perceptions towards organizational changes.
The paper is divided into three sections. It starts with a summary of employee s perceptions towards
organizational changes. The effects of communication on employee s perceptions towards
organizational changes will follow. The last section is a comparison of the strengths and weaknesses
of programmatic and participatory approaches through the analysis of empirical studies.

The Emperor s New Clothes
Hans Christian Anderson displays insight into the vanity of man in the popular children s story, The
Emperor s New Clothes . Although born into the world as unique individuals, humans grow up
seeking approval, acceptance, and validation in the societal norms in which they live. Rather than
embracing their individuality, most live out their lives trying to fit into a mold that their culture deems
as successful. Most cultures view accomplishments, wealth, and positions of influence as measures of
success; thus, an individual s value is calculated by what he has externally and not by who he is
internally. Therefore, many people fail to develop their gifts, talents, and personalities to live a
fulfilling life for themselves, and they succumb to societal pressure to strive for the materialistic,

Best Buy Research Paper
The roots of Best Buy Co., Inc. can be traced back to St. Paul, Minnesota. This is where founder
Richard Schulze opened the doors of his Sound of Music store in 1966. Understanding a demand for
consumer audio components and systems in the St. Paul area, Schulze managed to provide a
combination of great prices and excellent service, thus building a strong customer base, which quickly
prompted an expansion into home appliances and video products.
The eighties prompted change as well as the opening of Best Buy s first superstore. During 1983, a

  • 3. Essay about Macklemore Otherside Analysis Otherside Macklemore We live on the cusp of death thinking that it won t be us, (l.32). Macklemore is saying that people think that they will not die from doing drugs. In this song Macklemore is stating that drugs can be really addictive also he states that drugs can really mess you up and how media influences you to do drugs, for example rappers like Lil Wayne which he talks about in this song and Wiz Kalifa. Strong poetic devices permeate throughout Macklemore s song Otherside for example he uses allusions, repetition and end rhyme. Another use of end rhyme in this song would be, surprise, you know the drill/ trapped in a box, to climb record sales/ follow the formula violence, drugs and sex sells/ so we try to sound like someone else (ll.40 43). • 4. Dictatorship to Democracy Overnight in Indonesia Dictatorship to Democracy Overnight Indonesia is a country in Southeast Asia that was under a military dictatorship for 32 years. The dictatorship era started after the failure of communist coup d état by Indonesia s Communist Party in 1966. General Suharto, the one who had the biggest role in failing the coup d état, ousted the first president and established an autocratic anti communist regime known as the New Order, which attracted political and economic support from Western governments during the Cold War. At the beginning of this era, he said he would practice a kind of semi direct democracy, while later, even the news in newspapers was controlled by the government. His era was ended in 1998 by a huge student revolution and riots ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast to the New Order era government s reaction to separatist movements in Indonesia, the reformation era government in its early days made a mistake by giving a referendum to East Timor, a province in central Indonesia that had longed to form its own country since the New Order era. The referendum was to stay with Indonesia or to stand as an independent country, and the province chose the latter choice. This influenced other provinces that are not satisfied with the reformation era government due to the centralized development in certain parts of the country to start separatist movements. Even though Indonesia was led by a dictator during 1966 1998, there were still elections during the period. The election at that time was to elect one of the three political parties to get their members as new members of House of Representatives. Since there were only three political parties, each time there was going to be an election, the campaigns never ended up in chaos and the election ended in peace. After General Suharto was ousted in 1998, there was some kind of a party craze , everyone intended to make their own political party, without any limitation from the government. • 6. The Great Military Of The Nation State With the rise of the nation state has come the need for a force to protect it and project its political will. As nation states have grown, so too have the forces that protect it. Large armies that need to move any distance from their home bases need to bring their supplies with them or procure them on the move. Supplying these armies has always been a challenge, and it will continue to be a challenge in the future. Many great military leaders faced these issues; the greatest advances in logistics did not appear in warfare until the 17th century and many of them continued into the 21st century. These advances were the beginning of modern military logistics and the basis of how nations supply their armies today. Although the logistical systems continue to evolve in many ways during the past four centuries, it still is not perfect. Since ancient times, states recognized that feeding an army was difficult and multiple methods were employed in an attempt to meet the needs of soldiers. While in garrison, food generally was not too difficult to procure. However, food was not always as readily available when armies were on the march. The states had limited methods for dealing with the issue of supplying food and other supplies, and when soldiers needs were not met, they began resorting to stealing, buying, and plundering. In the 17th century, soldiers not receiving pay or food would do as they pleased, raping, pillaging, and robbing those in nearby villages to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

More s society, viewed through the character Hythloday, is seemingly based on man s nature in society being generally good, and the faults of man emanate from how society itself is set up. Hobbes takes the opposite view of human nature, where man s will to survive makes him unable to act out of goodness and it is man who is responsible for society s ills. Him they call father, and to him alone they attribute the origin, increase, progress, change, and end of all visible things; they do not offer divine honors to any other. ¦ (Utopus) left the whole matter (choosing a religion) open, allowing each person to choose what he would believe. The only exception was a positive and strict law against anyone who would sink so far below the dignity of human nature as to think that the soul perishes with the body, or that the universe is ruled by blind chance, not divine providence. ¦ Therefore a man who holds such views is offered no honors, entrusted with no offices, and given no public responsibility, he is universally regarded as a low and sordid fellow (pp.516 518 This excerpt shows the ambivalence that More has about human nature. • 12. Geoffrey Chaucer s Bath And The Miller s Tale Essay Geoffrey Chaucer, the author of The Canterbury Tales, writes these stories to express a variety of themes and lessons. One of these themes is the fidelity or loyalty in marriages during the late thirteen hundreds. Chaucer uses a collection of pilgrims and their tales to portray the main types of marriage during this time. These views are narrowed down to three main types and they are the feminine view, the courtly view, and the common or fabliaux view. These main types are seen in The Wife of Bath s Prologue and Tale, The Franklin s Tale, and The Miller s Tale. During this time period, a few women had a very feminist view on the idea of marriage. This is the idea that women should have freedom in the marriage and be able to do the same things in the community as her husband. This also means that in the context of the marriage, the wife should be the most powerful and have control over her husband. This was especially expressed from the Wife of Bath as she speaks of her views in her prologue and her tale. In the Wife of Bath s prologue, she tells that she has had four husbands before the one she has now and that she is not ashamed of her lack of virginity even as some of the community members look down on her. She doesn t think it s fair that if a woman has more than one husband in her lifetime, she is frowned upon, but it is acceptable for men to remarry several times (Marcotte). Ranked the #1 casual dining chain, The Cheesecake Factory s affordable food and large portions appeal to the masses ( Consumer Picks 2016: Casual Dining Results ). A vivid portrait of American capitalism, The Cheesecake Factory has transformed its strange design concepts into an established theme, convinced its fans that its inexpensive style is that of luxury, and coaxed its customers into thinking that its menu choices are a blessing, not an inconvenience. It has twisted its incompetence into a competitive strategy a true deviant that still manages to be at the top of the ratings. The Cheesecake Factory is a true anomaly in the world no other restaurant has pulled this concept off on such a large scale. The restaurant industry stands in awe of the giant that has become The Cheesecake Factory. The Cheesecake Factory, according to its CEO David Overton, has broken all the rules in order to become successful ( 2017 Golden Chain Award Winner ). For example, their strategies go far beyond Porter s understood and standardized theories of low cost versus differentiation (Porter, 1980, 35 and 41). The Cheesecake Factory manages to provide apparently luxurious food to its customers for cheap, thereby both keeping its food low cost and differentiating their products. Instead of relying on one strategy to become successful, The Cheesecake Factory has the best combination of differentiators: its price and its quality. As a result, The Cheesecake Factory benefits from having the best of both of Porter s strategies for competitive advantage, thereby conferring upon itself a tremendous marketplace advantage (Hambrick and Fredrickson, 6). This multiunit restaurant chain s style has a bizarre combination of ancient Egypt with Victorian style architecture crossed with Las Vegas extravagance and giant leathery booths. Youth unemployment is around 20% for people age 15 16 in Kenya, and in 2009 of the people working, 84% had informal jobs, making them vulnerable workers. These issues can be prevented for the future by making sure that all children have access to strong educational foundation through primary and secondary schools to then go on to tertiary and university to reinvest into their communities. Strides have been made such as making enrollment free, which led to many new students, but one million children are still out of school in Kenya. While this policy has made some accomplishment, children in less developed areas such as slums or informal settlements, do not have an equal access to public free schooling and instead go to private schools with low fees. This has led to an increase in the privatizing of education in Kenya. Over 60% of Nairobi s children attend these private schools, which can put extreme strain on a low income family. The public schools themselves have questionable quality, with the government no longer receiving tuition money to invest in the schools and relying on taxes. • 24. William Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew William Shakespeare s The Taming of the Shrew is a controversial comedy that has more than 1 interpretation. The 2 prominent interpretations is that it a misogynistic play or that it is a love story about a man liberating a woman. This play has been adapted into any movies the 2 that were studied were The Taming of the Shrew , produced in 1967 and 10 Things I Hate About You , made in 1999. Upon viewing these 2 movies I found that The Taming of the Shrew had a great deal of misogyny throughout the plot. However, I found 10 Things I Hate About You was portrayed as a love story and because of this I thought I was, until I thought about the fact that someone was paid to take her out was a nasty thing to do. Finally at Bianca s wedding Kate gives a speech about being a good wife and obey their husbands. I found this movie misogynistic, Katerina was wild and shrewish, however that is no valid reason to physiologically abuse her. I took this as Shakespeare has created a character that tests society s boundaries and challenges the people s beliefs, but she is then forced to marry and she is tamed . In a way Shakespeare is sending a message that if a woman challenges society they will end up the same as all of the other woman, obedient and a business deal. This may be ok in the Elizabethan era but in today s society this is unacceptable it s basically domestic violence. For this reason I believe Petruchio s behavior is horrible. He abused her for a game. In the end when Katerina gives a speech to the crowd shows that she has succumb to the falconry . 10 Things I Hate About You is a modernised adaptation explores a teenage shrew life and the modernised world of dating and trying to fit in . Kat, the independent 18 year old with an attitude, refuses to follow the crowd . Bianca, her younger sister, however, is popular and wants to date. According to the clients attendance that is recorded in a role book, the invoice will be generated. When riders or staff s information need to be changed, they might need to re fill forms. The annual timetable will be set up at the beginning of the year. Based on the lesson schedule, the manager will assign suitable staff and volunteers. Additionally, the advantages of using paper based system are that making notes on files and sharing within a large group easily. Also, the paper based system will have low requirements on the hardware of the organisation. Besides, one disadvantage of using paper based system is that the manager has to check records manually, which may cause some unnecessary errors. Another disadvantage is that the current system does not provide the manager with special functions to generate statistic efficiently. • 26. Parental Leave Policy Analysis Parental Leave The need for paid family leave has always been there, but finally is coming to the forefront of the presidential election in 2016. Both democratic front runners have policies that they have spoken about openly and even a few republicans had some bare bones policies, but those politicians did not make it this far. The best and most inclusive policy in my opinion is the one of Bernie Sanders. Sanders supports and is cosponsoring the FAMILY Act which would provide 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave to care for a sick loved one or for the birth of a child. Also, he supports the Healthy Families act that would guarantee 7 days of paid sick leave to every worker. The last part of his plan is to support the Guaranteed Paid Vacation ... Finally, as millennials start to gain some power and pull in the workforce after graduating from college and starting families of their own it is starting to get some traction. The generation as a whole is not willing to compromise their work life balance to fit the societal norm (Gilbert, 2011). The demands of the generation that is larger than baby boomers will not be stifled, especially when the United States has many countries to catch up to when it comes to workers rights policies like family leave. It is estimated that millennials will be over 50% of the workforce in the next 4 years (PWC, 2016). That kind of majority in the workforce and thus voting population forces change and opens windows for policy makers that have been patiently waiting in the wings for the chance to push their policies through. Sanders policies that he is supporting and co sponsoring are a perfect example of this. Sanders has supported family leave since the early 1980s but did not have the policy window to push his policy through. Power structure within society is something else that is changing with the millennial generation. Millennials are a generation that is very aware of who has power in society and why they have it. It makes sense why shared servers are chosen, they re cheap and very acceptable, but when you look at the future consequences, it becomes clear that the upfront savings aren t worth the long term risks. Even if you need to cut costs in other areas to make it happen, it s critically important that you switch your business over to a dedicated server. • 28. Kant s Philosophy on the Metaphysical World Explained in... In the Critique of Pure Reason, philosopher Immanuel Kant aims to thoroughly explain his philosophy of the metaphysical world. Within the Transcendental Aesthetic, Kant focuses on confirming that space and time are a priori intuitions. He provides reasoning and arguments as to why they are transcendentally ideal but empirically real, making space and time subjectively necessary for experiences. Simultaneously, Kant distinguishes space and time from secondary qualities, which belong to our senses through experience, by confirming that unlike space and time, secondary qualities are not empirically real. Kant does run into conflicts with his theory, he still successfully claims that space and time are transcendentally ideal but empirically real, as well as distinguish them from secondary qualities by supporting his theories with reasoning. Kant s theory of transcendental idealism states that human beings only experience appearances and not things in themselves (Rohlf). Space and time are transcendentally ideal because they allow us to perceive things in themselves. This means that space and time are only forms in which properties of objects appear and not properties of things in themselves. Therefore, space and time are not self subsistent and nor are they substances that have properties. Kant draws two conclusions for space and three conclusions for time. In conclusion (a), Kant states that space and time do not have properties of things in themselves (A26/B42). He also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Is The Moral Of The Last Battle Of Ottainawa By Robert Leckie Robert Leckie s book, Okinawa: The Last Battle of World War II, is entirely about one of World War II s most brutally fought battles. On April 1, 1945, the U.S. invaded Japan, attacking the island of Okinawa with 540,000 U.S. Army and Marines, and 1,600 ships. L Day was the official name for this day. The L stood for Landing, but the Americans who invaded the Hagushi Beaches that day without any trouble from the Japanese, called it Love Day. He does a great job of descriptively covering the events of the Okinawa invasion and does not tell the story from one particular point of view. However, I believe a better understanding of economics could help make this book better. One of the routes Leckie could have went about to describe if this battle was rational or not was to talk about the length of the war. Was eighty three days of fighting rational? Most regular people would say that this is not rational. Not only did thousands of men lose their lives, but all the weapons or ships that were damaged or destroyed was very costly. Don t forget the opportunity cost of the income that could have been earned in other lines of work. These are only a few of the costs that this battle brought on for not only the Americans but the Japanese as well. On the other hand, the major benefit from this battle was the fact that Okinawa would be an essential springboard to victory for the Allies. From Okinawa, the Allies could attack the mainland by air or sea and ultimately win the war. These eighty three days were necessary in order to strategically invade this island and eventually invade and control Japan. From an economic standpoint I believe that this battle was rational, and it needed to be fought in order to end the entire war. • 30. Carlos Museum Experience After Visiting the Carlos Museum, it became evident to me that the ethics of displaying human remains is more nuanced than I had originally realized. Some cultures, such as the ancient Egyptians, are thought to have striven to be eternalized through mummification, and therefore would have wanted to be put on display. On the other hand, some cultures, like Native Americans, can explicitly tells us that they do not want their remains to be put on display. Furthermore, I learned from this experience that a corpse s treatment right after its death is often an indicator for how a person was viewed in life. The curators and conservers at the Carlos Museum take into account the culture from which remains come, whether a body is in a state that is dignified, and if it is necessary in the first place to display the body. Communication, if poorly managed, can lead to negative consequences including employee s frustration, uncertainty, change contempt (Frahm Brown (2007), Bordia, Hunt, Paulsen (2004)), psychological strain, low job satisfaction, and increase in turnover intention (Bordia, Hunt, Paulsen (2004)). If effectively managed, communication can result in multiple positive effects such as employee s positive perception towards change process, change acceptance (Frahm Brown (2007)), perception of justice within the organization (Nese (2014)), and change based momentum (Jansen (2004)). In this paper, I would like to explore how two communication approaches programmatic and participatory can be used to improve employee s positive perceptions towards organizational changes. The paper is divided into three sections. It starts with a summary of employee s perceptions towards organizational changes. The effects of communication on employee s perceptions towards organizational changes will follow. The last section is a comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of programmatic and participatory approaches through the analysis of empirical studies. • 38. The Emperor s New Clothes Hans Christian Anderson displays insight into the vanity of man in the popular children s story, The Emperor s New Clothes . Although born into the world as unique individuals, humans grow up seeking approval, acceptance, and validation in the societal norms in which they live. Rather than embracing their individuality, most live out their lives trying to fit into a mold that their culture deems as successful. Most cultures view accomplishments, wealth, and positions of influence as measures of success; thus, an individual s value is calculated by what he has externally and not by who he is internally. Therefore, many people fail to develop their gifts, talents, and personalities to live a fulfilling life for themselves, and they succumb to societal pressure to strive for the materialistic, external trappings of success. This presents a struggle between self and society. In The Emperor s New Clothes , Anderson uses clothing to symbolize this struggle wearing society s accepted standards as clothes to mask our naked vulnerability to rejection. Anderson s story centers on an emperor whose validation comes from his wardrobe. This fondness for beautiful clothes leaves him vulnerable to a couple of swindlers who come to his town; these con artists claimed to be weavers of an extraordinary cloth that is invisible to anyone who was unfit for his office or unforgiveable stupid (The Emperor s New Clothes, para 2).
