Social Citizenship vs. Civil Citizenship
Social Citizenship vs. Civil Citizenship Civil citizenship and social citizenship are two aspects of
the same theory i.e. social welfare. They appear to be the forces which if managed well, will keep
the society in balance ensuring the rights of every citizen are respected and provided by the state
and other institutions. However, today s American society is more prone to viewing civil
citizenship as more reputable attribute guaranteeing prestige and status in society whereas social
citizenship is perceived as stigmatic and abhorrent. Although American society bears all the
elements required for social citizenship in its foundation however the dominance provided to civil
citizenship has changed the outlook of American society in past few centuries. Since civil
citizenship ensures that the state and the citizen are involved in equilateral contract, therefore it is
considered to guarantee esteem whereas social citizenship is synonymous to unilateral contract
where the state is offering necessary services without receiving anything in return; this ideology
demeans the stature of social citizenship. Fraser and Gordon (1992) claim that the U.S. has no
social citizenship. They also argue that the concept of social citizenship includes ideas from three
political traditions liberal themes of rights and equal respect, communitarian norms of solidarity
and shared responsibility, and republican ideals of participation in public life (p.46). A careful view
of American society

Essay about Rita s Change and her Relationship with Frank
Rita s Change and her Relationship with Frank How does Rita s character change and her
relationship with Frank alter during the course of the play? Educating Rita is the story of a
married working class woman, Rita, trying to better and discover herself by attending an open
university course. The play follows her as her character and relationship with her tutor, Frank

herself through her education and by the end she can choose what to do next rather then being

Clinical Assessment in Health Centers Heather L. Bienkowski PSCYH 655 March 23, 2015
Professor Karen Hoeve Clinical Assessment in Health Centers Clinical assessments have their place
in almost every facet of the psychological and educational realms. I have been tracking down and
examining what the most important aspects of assessment are that come into play in regard to drug
and substance abuse, custody battles, as well as the importance the role of adhering to the ethical
standards of utilizing culturally informed assessments. Clinical assessments within mental health
centers are carry great importance in the identifying underlying behavioral problems, diagnosis, and

Through the interpretation of both verbal and nonverbal language, as well as the specific client
complaints, clinicians can pinpoint important markers within behavior and can generate an
understanding of their patient and determine the type of treatment that would be best for their
client. In all psychological and biological assessment, the use of culturally attuned assessments is
top priority. We may define culturally informed psychological assessment as an approach to
evaluation that is keenly perceptive of and responsive to issues of acculturation, values, identity,
worldview, language, and other culture related variables as they may impact the evaluation process
or the interpretation of resulting data (Cohen, Swerdlik, Sturman, 2013). Through this process key
individuals contribute to the understanding of the client including family, friends, and coworkers
input and information. Through the use of translators and other cultural affiliates clinicians are able
to demonstrate a clearer understanding, a culturally applicable assessment, and ensure that the
client understands the ins and outs of the assessment process. One important aspect of the
implementation of the one size fits all approach to culturally attuned treatment and care in our
mental health facilities (Cohen, Swerdlik, Sturman, 2013). Assessment and clinical evaluations
should not be a cookie cutter experience. The amount of patients that are

The Fourteenth Amendment s Due Process Clause Bars...
Judge Simon Skinner and Judge Leslie Tiller are judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the
Eighth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, respectively. Each judge
has an involved history with Minnesota s governor, Joyce Cooper. In this paper, I address whether
the Fourteenth Amendment s Due Process Clause bars Skinner and Tiller from hearing two unique
cases to which Cooper is a party. I conclude that, for both judges in both cases, it does not.
***
I begin with the relationship between Judge Skinner and Governor Cooper, who are related in two
ways, one significant and the other less so. First, and less significantly, Cooper taught Skinner
construction law at Minnesota s flagship law school. Skinner would later own a construction
company of his own, NWA Construction. Upon his confirmation to the 8th Circuit, Skinner sold the
company, in its entirety, to his son.
More significantly, Cooper, then serving as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, actively
lobbied to confirm Skinner to the 8th Circuit after his nomination. Cooper contacted all other
members of the Senate, promising them gratitude and a yay vote on a future federal judge
nominee for a yay vote on Skinner s confirmation. Cooper even targeted 51 other Senators, for
whom she held fundraisers that raised $58,000 per Senator. These fundraisers occurred
immediately before the Senate s vote on Skinner s confirmation, and all 51 Senators for whom
Cooper fundraised and Cooper

Interpersonal Conflict Resolution And Mediation
Interpersonal Conflict Resolution and Mediation
Conflict is a problematic situation that occurs between interdependent people who seek different
goals or means to those goals. Conflict is inevitable as relationships become closer, more personal,
and more interdependent, more conflicts occur, perceived trivial or minor complaints become more
significant, and feelings become more intense. Conflict has many definitions (opposing viewpoints,
when opponents engage in battle, going against one another in some fashion, incompatibility
between the objectives of two or more characters or forces) and approaches (avoiding,
accommodating, competing, collaborating, compromising). Interpersonal conflict is the
disagreement between two people in respect to values and attitudes that leads to resentment.
Definitions tend to imply that conflict is not a beneficial behavior in which to engage. However,
proactively addressing conflict via mediation has been known to restore peace, enhance
relationships, and bring cohesiveness to an otherwise divided team. In the study of conflict, one
soon realizes that the workplace is often the perfect setting for conflict to occur. According to
Wilmot and Hocker (2001), when assessing even a seemingly small interpersonal conflict, one can
benefit from a careful and objective assessment. In many situations involving conflict, one party
often has a significant amount of power over the other, resulting in an advantageous situation for
the stronger party. This

Failure Of An After School Boat Building Team
You only fail if you do not try. Failure is many times the stopping point of a person s success. I
believe that failure is actually pushing yourself forward to later reach your goal. This failure in my
life has taught me to communicate more with my teammates and better prepare myself for what to
expect. My experience with failure involved an after school boat building team. Every year, the
Metropolitan Water District of Southern California holds an event called the Solar Cupeach year at
Lake Skinner. This event involves many schools throughout California that form teams to build a
boat that can be powered by solar. My team was formed with the combination of three high
schools, Tahquitz, West Valley, and Western Center Academy. On the first day I had the
opportunity to meet new people from the different schools. This gave me the chance to create
bonds with new people. It all started with brainstorming ideas about how the boat should be. A
tech report was also needed to be done so that the organizers can know what components are going
to be involved with the boat. I did the technical report which involved having the information of
each component of the boat, whether that be the design of the boat or the materials being used for
the boat. I had to make sure that each detail of the tech report was good so that I can start on
building the boat with my team. After our tech report was done, the building process of the boat
began. Throughout the whole building process, there was

How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry Essay
How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry
Seamus Heaney was born in the North of Ireland in 1939 on a farm with his mother and father and
nine other siblings. Generally Heaney s poems are influenced by animals through his childhood
experience, specifically within The Early Purges and An Advancement of
Learning . Heaney grew up near Belfast, during the time of The
Troubles , the Irish civil war. Although Heaney left at the height of the war, it is obvious his work
reflects his experiences of that time.
For an example The Early Purges illustrates this. Where they consider death unnatural . Growing
into an environment where Heaney will appreciate that death does exist, the extract interprets

They seem weak and terrified.
Heaney uses words such as, purges , the water pumped in , scraggy wee shits , dunghill and dung
to suggest that the kittens seem like waste. The title reflects the idea of waste, as the word purges
means getting rid of undesirables. The water pumped in, indicates what happens when flushing a
toilet, therefore getting rid of waste.
Dan Taggart calls the kittens, scraggy wee shits which shows that he doesn t care about the killing
of the kittens and treats them as waste to be got rid of. He justifies his actions by suggesting the
kittens have no value. A dunghill can be used for getting rid of dung and the kittens are sluiced on
the dunghill. The word sluiced means
flushed indicating a toilet, so the kittens are therefore treated as waste. Throughout the poem we
are viewing the killing through Heaney s eyes and it is evident that he does not like the killing
as he uses words such as soft , tiny and frail to suggest the kittens are innocent and harmless. The
words, For days I sadly hung round the yard, watching the three sogged remains and the fear came
back suggest he was affected by the carnage and murder he witnessed. However, toward the end of
the poem he is forced to accept the killing and torture.
Heaney became numb, unfeeling and almost deadened. This is shown in the words, I just shrug,
Bloody pups . It makes sense . He is almost imitating Dan Taggart at this point to justify

Methamphetamine as a Sleepless Dream or Addictive Nightmare
Methamphetamine has reclaimed a place in the lexicon of party drugs. Hailed by nocturnal
adventurers, condemned by raver idealists, is speed a sleepless dream or an addictive nightmare?
Here at the end of the millennium, the pace of modern life seems fleeting a whirl of minutes, hours
and days. In dealing with the changes, humans have equipped themselves with the tools to move
faster, more efficiently. At the same time a dependence for the marketing, high speed transportation
and pharmacology of this modern age has evolved. In a race to outdo ourselves, we have moved
dangerously toward the fine line between extinction and evolution. Therefore, the human ... Show

The hyperreality of today goes hand in hand with the drugs being administered.
It s 6 a.m. Around the speaker bins are small packs of animated dancers grinding their feet into the
floor and shaking their hands in front of them. The lookie loos and weekend warriors have long
since gone home. Absent from their faces are the smiles of midnight, replaced by the blank, vacant
stare of sleepless dreams.
They have a name in the rave community, they are tweakers. Tweaking, the common name for
sniffing lines of speed, the drug methamphetamine, (popular for its availability and price) has
somehow replaced MDMA and LSD as the perfect rave drug, allowing users the clear head and
stamina to keep dancing long after their bodies have gone to sleep.
A prominent opinion during the aftermath of the Los Angeles Summer of Love was that speed
killed the rave scene. Where speed had been seen in every scene from metal to the punk scene,
for some reason it was shocking for some to see methamphetamine take hold, even though
MDMA (an amphetamine like substance) had been circulating for years. Some likened the rise to
the quash of young newcomers, some equated it with the greed of drug dealers. Judging from
today s roster of events throughout the nation, raves are still alive and well. However, many old
schoolers have been turned off by the newbie vibe that came with speed s rise in popularity. Some
were casualties themselves of the drug s addictive nature. Others

Occupiers Liability from the Common Law
The first point to note when analysing occupiers liability is that originally it was separate to the
general principles of negligence which were outlined in Donoghue v Stevenson .The reason for
this pigeon hole approach was that the key decision of occupiers liability, Indermaur v Dames was
decided sixty six years prior to the landmark decision of Donoghue v Stevenson. McMahon and
Binchy state the reason why it was not engulfed into general negligence, was because it ... had
become too firmly entrenched by 1932 ... to be swamped by another judicial cross current
Following on from Indermaur v Dames the courts developed four distinct categories of entrant
which I will now examine in turn.
The first category of entrant is that of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was evident in the case of Rooney v Connolly where liability was imposed on a priest when
a girl that he had encouraged to visit the local church injured herself stretching over lighted
candles. The permission to enter the land as a licensee may be expressed or implied. An issue
arises when the permission is implied. Often children entered premises without the permission of
the landowner without the objection of the landlord. But did this make them a licensee or a
trespasser? Fitzgibbon J put it eloquently in Kenny v ESB An open gate or an unfenced field does
not amount to an invitation or licence urbi et orbi to enter upon private property Often the courts
would have to interpret particularly in cases involving minors whether tolerance could be implied
as amounting to permission to enter the land. The courts would often analyse the tolerance issue in
deciding cases as best to deliver justice in cases where there was no clear outcome.
The fourth category is that of a trespasser. This category has radically developed in the last thirty
years. Originally a trespasser was owed a very limited duty of care. The duty owed to a trespasser
was that they could not be injured intentionally and not to act with reckless disregard to their
person or property . The idea behind such a narrow duty was that a trespasser was illegal on the
property and that the occupier should owe little

Lydia Bennet Women
Today, women are appraised as weak because of the roles women were assigned since they existed.
In the 18th century, women were only given the power to submit to bear children, submit to their
husband, and be a housewife. Rights were given to women but their roles and expectations were
still appended to their gender. In the novel Pride and Prejudice, author Jane Austin s motive was to
reveal how women s expectations challenged women with different personalities and how things
haven t changed since the 18th century.
Back then, a woman was expected to be ladylike and mature. Lydia Bennet is the youngest child
in the Bennett family who is immature and obsesses over men. When Lydia runs away with an
older man name Mr. Wickham, her womanhood was challenged by society. Since Lydia was not
married to Mr. Wickham, her ignominy of being promiscuous causes a bad reputation on her and
her family. Today, Lydia would be classified as a whore because of her lack of marriageand running
off with a man. It has become a normal thing for women to be called out of their name for being
single and going on dates with multiple men. The reason being is because people imply that the
women are providing voluntary sex. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, it is challenging for Elizabeth Bennett, who is outspoken. She is challenged when
she refuses Mr.Collins proposal and tells him off. Refusing to marry caused society to sham her.
Today, refusing a marriage means that the woman is delusional because society s standards say
that a woman needs a man in her life. Also, having a sharp tongue classified her as being
disobedient. Lizzy tells Mr. Darcy off for sabotaging her sister s relationship with Mr. Bingley and
rejects his hand in marriage. Her acrimonious tone makes her come off as harsh. Still, society
continues to sham women for voicing their opinion and being strong minded. These type of women

Interdisciplinary Care And Collaboration Analysis
The Importance of Interdisciplinary Care and Collaboration
Have you ever wondered what makes corporations successful? Have you ever asked yourself if by
giving the best of your effort as an employee, you could be a key piece to the success of your team?
Steve Jobs was so right to say Great things in business are never done by one person. They are done
by a team of people (Whiting, 2013) and the medical field is not the exception. Interdisciplinary
care and team collaboration are based on building great teamwork, maintaining alive the principles
of collaboration, and minimizing the barriers in coordination of care. (Scott, 2014)

The most important thing to remember is that small changes and daily intakes done individually
for the common purpose of the team can make a huge difference in the impact of a corporation,
a state or even a whole country. If we, as professionals in the medical field, do not produce these
small but so necessary changes, we will lose the great opportunity to become the catalysts of the
future improvements in the healthcare system. Al we need is some type of action in the right
direction, and as long as we build great teamwork, maintain alive the principles of collaboration,
and minimize the barriers in coordination of care, we will make our work easier, people happier,

Hyperthermia And Hypothermia Research Paper
Summary 2:
Hyperthermia and Hypothermia
If your body gains heat at a faster rate than it can lose heat you will get hyperthermia. Fever;
anaesthesia; hot conditions and hard exercise can cause this to happen.
The body has systems to control its temperature at normal levels which react in hot conditions but
in prolonged hot humid conditions you can get heat exhaustion. The systems are unable to control
normal levels and heavy sweating will cause dehydration; low blood pressure; low blood volume
and an increase in heart rate. People with heat exhaustion usually feel cool to the touch because of
all the sweating. They will also feel weak; dizzy and sick. Moving to a cooler place; resting
muscles and drinking fluids will help this condition.

Ideal Woman
An Ideal Woman
In high school, I was given the task of interviewing someone that lived during the Great
Depression. Instantly my grandmother came to my mind. Ruth LaCoste was born in 1930.
Unlike my grandfather who was always telling tales, she never spoke of her childhood. I knew
she was my ideal of what a woman should be. Until this interview, I did not know how true that
was. She can best be summed up by a quote from GB Shaw, Mrs. Warren s Profession 1893,
People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don t believe in circumstances.
The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they
want, and, if they can t find them, make them. In short, Ruth LaCoste Rebardi represents
perseverance, independence, and family. She symbolizes my ideal woman.
Ruth LaCoste Rebardi represents perseverance by not being a product of her circumstances.

the fourth of seven children. Hans and Julia were uneducated trappers in the bayous of South

Social Cohesion In The Progressive Era
During the late nineteenth century, the Progressive Era, a time of partial social reform emerged.
There were multiple successes; like that of senate representation, the improvement of working
conditions, and the most recognized, women s suffrage. Initially, the cause of women s suffrage
stemmed from inequality. Therefore, the concept of social cohesion was appearing; that a society s
overall success is dependent on the success of individuals. Then again, who were considered
insiders or outsiders when progressives attempted to tie society together with social cohesion? In

no trace of their ethnic background; as if their ethnic background did not hold value or use.
Acculturation is the act of one having to modify their culture to a dominant one in order to be
successful. Social cohesion is dependent on the wellbeing of an individual, but Mexican
immigrants are unwillingly forced to change their identity to succeed in American society. The
derogatory assumptions on Mexicans about them becoming a menace break the effectiveness of
social cohesion since a Mexican s success were based on their ability to lose their identity, which
denies their acceptance into society. The women carrying out Americanization also had a belief that
it would be more difficult to acculturate Mexicans in comparison to per se, Italians because they

Effects Of Parental Neglect On Elementary School Students
Effects of Parental Neglect on Elementary School Students Emre OZDEMIR New York Institute

neglect can have severe consequences to the growth and development of a child. According to
research, parental neglect is one of the major root causes of many vices in the society. Parental
neglect can bring up a society with people who are not physically, emotionally or socially mature.
Although child neglect is a problem facing many children in elementary schools in many
countries across the world, coming up with an effective method of dealing with the problem
poses a huge challenge because some forms of parental neglect have been characterized with

The 2016 Olympic Games
Background
The 2016 Olympic Games will be held in Rio de Janeiro in August from the 5th to the 21st at 32
different venues. The soccer matches will be held at the stadiums in Sao Paulo, Salvador, Belo
Horizonte and Brasilia from August the 3rd to through to the 20th. In July, the Brazilian police
arrested and detained 12 people who were suspected of planning an ISIS inspired attack. There has
not been any public disclosure about a credible plot on the Olympic games. Throughout the duration
of the Olympic games the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Justice and Rio de Janeiro s State
public security forces will implement a combined security strategy with the support of roughly
85,000 private and public security specialists. The United States is aiding the work effort with the
Brazilian intelligence agencies, according to a report from NBC News. Furthermore, the deterring
operations of street crime and urban violence the government will need to have the support of its
integrated anti terrorism centre and its security operations.
During the Olympic games, no fly zones, security perimeters and mobile phone blocking
technology will be offered as additional protection during the games. These means of additional
protection methods are put into place to aid in the event of an attack or if a threat arises. However,
due to the ongoing regression Rio de Janeiro s state budget for the Olympic games has fallen by

Ethical Issues In Erin Brockovich
Erin Brockovich was a poor, jobless, single mother with three children. In the beginning of the
movie, her car was hit by a surgeon. When she goes to court, the surgeon s lawyer accuses her
lying and trying to steal money from the wealthy doctor. The lawyer uses Erin s status as a poor,
single, twice divorced mother in order to make the jury believe that she is lying. Furthermore, the
surgeon s lawyer talks down to her because she is a woman and dresses in tight, skimpy clothing.
The overarching problem in the movie was the contamination of the water in Hinkley, California.
The water was contaminated by a substance called chromium VI by the water company, PG E.
Chromium VI is highly toxic to human beings and the company, knowing how toxic it is, dumps it
into the water that the residents use. When Erin finds out about the chromium VI in the water, she
begins by bringing it to the attention of the families who may have been affected by it.
Regarding this, Erin takes an objectivist approach, knowing that the chromium levels are too high
and could potentially (and already did) cause life threatening diseases for the people of Hinkley.
The public s reaction was not exactly what she expected. Initially, some families seem skeptical and
even uncaring about the situation, but Erin is able to connect with the residents and gain their trust
and respect. This allows for them to truly begin questioning PG E s intentions. As for Erin gaining
the Hinkley residents trust, this can

Curtis Lemay s Strategic Bombing Analysis
The responsibility of dropping the bombs rests on the shoulders of a President Truman, an
inequivalent President filling the void of the late Franklin D. Roosevelt. Truman fresh into office
heard the various arguments from the military officers, political advisors, scientist, and civilian
experts lobbying for their input to be heard in the debate on the decision to use nuclear bombs
against Japan in the summer of 1945. After the fall of Nazi Germany in May 1945 the Joint
Chiefs of Staff, JCS, predicted that Japan would fall in an additional 18 months of war. The
various branches of the military had competing arguments for the best way to end the war in the
Pacific. The Navy argued that their sea blockade of the Japan along with sea and air bombardments

Compare and Contrast 2 Great Newspapers
Despite being printed for the same date, in this case January 30th, 2014, the distinction can still
be made, and by this it can be said that if the titles of the newspapers were removed it would not
be hard to distinguish one from the other. By placing the front page of the New York Times (NYT)
and of the Wall Street Journal(WSJ) side by side, the reader can piece together few similarities and
a greater amount of contrast between the two. These are especially true when looking at the stories
that were covered, the amount of space some stories took compared to others, and the slants many
of the headlines took. These were the headlines from that day. On the cover of the NYT: childhood
obesity, a Google business move, Russian s testing of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Visually looking at the two different covers, the amount of space given to the 2 3 major stories
was about the same. In both, the biggest space was taken by the pictures. In the NYT, an image
of stalled cars on the highway in Atlanta took the biggest space and the next biggest was an
image of two children crying with a chard car behind them. In the WSJ, there was a collection of
charts that displayed data about the stock market and another of stranded people sleeping in a
store in Atlanta. Both of the newspaper share this trait, the most of space going to the pictures.
Another similarity would be that the written articles shared length, for example in the NYT the
story of obesity and Russian missile test were about the same and in the WSJ the articles of Reid
and movie productions were also about the same. The clear distinction comes with the content of
the pictures and again it revolves around the interests of organizations: money and social issues.
One major difference and an unexpected part was the ad for Oracle in the WSJ which took up as
much space if not more than the Reid commentary, the Russian test, or even the picture from the
Atlanta crisis. The length of the Google article was also distinct, where the NYT gave a full
column, the WSJ gave it a small paragraph. Another point to note is the display and position of the
headlines or newsfeed. The WSJ had two broad

Comparative Education
France has a highly organized educational system, which is divided into primary, secondary and
tertiary (college) education. Primary and secondary education is usually imparted at public schools
although a strong network of private schools also exists. All educational programs in France are
regulated by the Ministry of National Education.
Schooling in France is mandatory as of age 6, the first year of primary school while secondary
education consists of collГЁge for the first four years after primary school and the lycГ©e for the

Under the pressure of a massive rise in number pupils in middle and high schools, project
pedagogy was presented as a possible solution to meeting the needs of the diversity of pupils,
addressing their individual needs, and developing pupil autonomy (GinestiГ©, 2002). It was in this
context, in 1985, that technology education was introduced in France as a part of science and
technology education in elementary schools, as a new subject for all pupils in middle schools and
as an optional subject in high schools. We can note four stages of organization of technology
education between 1985 and today.
1.1.2 1985 1991: the implementation of the first curriculum
Technology education was conceived of as a new subject and took the place of
MTE (manual and technical education) in terms of hours, classrooms, and teachers.
The curriculum emphasized the industrial environment, leaving little room for home economics
and craftsmanship (COPRET, 1984). It had two different elements that made these references plain.
On the one hand, the general part of the course described the overall goals, context, and aims of
technology education in France.
The aims were in terms of pupils attitudes towards technology (as related in many papers, e.g. de
Vries, 1994; Jones, 1997; Compton amp; Jones, 1998; Gardner amp; Hill,
1999; Dugger, 2000) and in terms of the social and professional world of industrial production (this

Thesis Of The Declaration Of Independence
Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence for the American colonists to proclaim
freedom from Great Britain s dictator, King George III. American colonists had been suffering for
many years when this important document was drafted. King George III had pushed the colonists
into a state of tyranny and most decided it was time to start an independent nation under a different
type of government. Jefferson focused his piece toward many audiences. He wanted not only King
George III and the British Parliament to know the American s feelings, but also the entire world.
The time had come for an huge change amongst the American colonists and Jefferson made sure
everyone was aware of it by using his superior strategies of persuasion.

biggest amount of hypertext documents from all over the world, despite the existence of other

They are systems that are accessed from heterogeneous architectures like different operating
systems [6]. One of the main aspects in open hypermedia system is that they have Link bases
and Link services, but links and anchors are separated from the documents which allows an
easier filtration and modifications for documents and files, since they have first class links as
opposed to the World Wide Web which uses embedded links [6,8,9]. In Microcosm for example,
you need to ask the system to see what links might be available from a specific document while
W3 just shows all the links [6]. Microcosm architecture was similar to Dexter s, it has a document
management system that takes care of the structures within nodes, it has the presentation layer
that is responsible for displaying the information and it has the link services which gives the links
that are accessible from a document [6]. Parsing documents in Microcosm was done through
decomposed filters which resulted in a complicated architecture regarding other systems that uses
the client/server one, but it allowed a very rich model of linking especially with the generic link
[6]. In addition, it allowed a flexible document processing since it has multiple link bases and had
an integration with third party applications [6]. Microcosm was designed as a desktop based

The use of surgery to cure pain and discomfort poses many complexities, since operations have
permanent consequences and sometimes harmful results. Although medical procedures often
demonstrate more successful results from the get go, particular strategies are more consequential
and perennial than non medical therapy. For instance, the discovery of the lobotomy procedure in
1936 (Diefenbach 60) was considered a solution to mental illness. This surgery, which separates the
patient s main cognitive area and the frontal lobes from the rest of the brain, also manages to
entirely remove mood disorders and suffering (Wong 297). As a result, the patient relinquishes his
or her feelings and emotions entirely. For example, 23 year old Rosemary Kennedy the sister of
U.S. President John F. Kennedy received a lobotomy surgery and ended up spending the rest of her
life incapacitated (Wong 297). Although lobotomies were originally intended to ease the strain of
mental disorders and illness, their results were deemed harmful, but only after many patients had
been damaged. A less encroaching solution to the problem at hand could be the implementation of
musical therapy into a patient s recovery schedule. Music therapy, according to the American Music
Therapy Association, is the clinical and evidence based use of music interventions to accomplish

The Relationship Between Body Image And Society
Body image and Society have always been interrelated throughout time especially in maintaining
gender roles and imposing the perfect image of the female. It is society that have dictated how a
woman should look and act and both positive and negative body image is a direct correlation
with a woman s social worth. This essay will discuss how the relationship between body image

Wolf s The Beauty Myth will be used a point of reference in how non fiction work depict the
relationship between body image and society compared to the two works of fiction above.
While Sexton s poem Self in 1958 does not have explicit references to body shape, it is evident that
society is directly linked with how women were perceived. upon some shellacked and grinning

perfect wife, or at the least the representation of one that promotes her need to break out from
this societal role. The final stanza of the poem suggests that the object, while perfect in her role,
is being drained of individuality and even life itself. She is nothing but a synthetic doll who

ruin or fears? But I would cry, rooted into the wall that was once my mother, if I could remember

Housekeeping Department Of The Hotel
Introduction
To begin with, primarily a guest s overall impression of the hotel is entirely dependent on the
cleanliness of the hotel and housekeeping department plays a vital role in providing an exceptional
experience to its guests. Therefore housekeeping department in the hotel is considered to be the
heart of the hotel. The house keeping department plays an important role in attracting the customers
by keeping the hotel clean, attractive, comfortable and welcoming surroundings which will help in
determining whether the guest is happy with the service provided to them.
Apart from cleaning the guest rooms, housekeeping department is also responsible for cleaning the
other areas of the hotel that are accessible to the guests especially when cleanliness and hygiene
have become an important criteria for the guests to make a selection of the hotel for their stay. In
other words finding a home away from home.
For the smooth functioning of the housekeeping department, housekeeping staff plays a very
crucial role as they are the ones who are face of the hotel for the customers. Housekeeping staff is
not only responsible for performing cleaning duties but having proper coordination with the other
department such as front office is very important to determine the required timeline the rooms need
to be ready for the guests. A good housekeeping staff is who is able to deal with customers
expectations and at the correct time and maintain high level of customer satisfaction.

Hiding One s Identity Is Nothing New
Hiding one s identity Is nothing new. Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay authored
The Federalist Papers in 1787 under pseudonym Publius. The ability to communicate anonymously
is viewed as part of our basic right to free speech . With the advent of computers and ease of access
to the internet, becoming anonymous as never been easier, and is far more reaching than the
colonial newspapers of 1787. For some this ease at which we can communicate anonymous is cause
for concern. Although we are no longer hiding our identities to promote the ratification of the
Constitution, being anonymous still plays a large role in our society. Online anonymity grants
anyone with an internet connection an unbiased voice, regardless of gender, race, or wealth.
Without this freedom to online anonymity many people would not feel free to express themselves
or release sensitive information about themselves or about corruption, in the case of
whistleblowing. Anonymity can also be used as a security measure and prevent unauthorized
mining of personal information. Although multiple ethical framework will be used and compared,
using a consequence based framework will be the main examining point throughout. The use of the
term anonymous can be confusing from an online perspective. When speaking of anonymity in
such a sense it is not related to the degree of traceability, but to the lack of aspects such as image,
voice, and situation in the online social environment . Those against online

Wood remarks that even though it appears there are so many freakish disasters in the novella
and Candide suffers many horrible events throughout the novel Candide is usually optimistic.
There is one important point in the story where the reader gets a sense that candied has lost his
optimism, and it is the only point where the word optimism is used in the novella. It occurs
when Cacambo asks What is optimism? to which Candide replies it is the mania for insisting
that all is well when all is by no means well. Wood also converses that while Pangloss is
considered a philosopher, Candide is one as well. He sees Candide as a philosopher because he
loves to talk about philosophical ideas, but above all he is young, and his youth permits him
attitudes which are not all that far removed from the initial provincialism of his native
Westphalia. And that Candide does find it hard to believe the world is a bad place if his own
affairs are going well. There are many examples throughout the story of Candide being
optimistic especially in the beginning at Thunder Ten Tronckh. He truly believes that he is in
the best place in the world and that his life is so great and the world is a perfect place, when in
reality he only believes this because he has never left to experience the real world. Once he is

Foreshadowing is used to give hints about what will happen next in the plot, and it may give a
sense of relief or discovery. An example of foreshadowing in this movie is: in the beginning of
the film, Vincent breaks and enters into Dr. Crowe s home. As stated before. Vincent Grey was
a former patient or client of Crowe s. Vincent tells Dr. Crowe that he had failed him and after the
whole dramatic episode, Vincent shoots Crowe and himself. When Crowe gets shot, a viewer of
the film could assume the bullet went somewhere near his kidney, which could be fatal. However,
at this point in the movie, the audience wouldn t know that it killed him. This was a flashback.
This is evidence that the plot was constructed with in medias res in mind. Another example of
foreshadowing is the fact that it seems as if Cole is the only person who can talk to Dr. Crowe.
This is especially significant because of the opening scene which involved the shooting of Crowe.
The audience, then, could start making assumptions that the shot killed Crowe and the only reasons
Cole is the only one who talks to him is because he s dead. Throughout the movie, the audience

Living On The 1906 San Francisco Earthquake
San Andreas Essay
There are thousands of people living in San Francisco, without knowing that they are at a high
risk of fatality at this moment. People should not be living too close or on a fault line, especially
without the knowledge of the risks they are taking. The San Andreas fault line is a juncture of the
Pacific and North America plates. The fault line is 800 miles long. It starts close to Eureka and
ends above Brawly. Scientists predict that an earthquake can happen at the San Andreas fault line
any moment right now and with very high likelihood of happening sometime before 2032. In the
event of an earthquake, many lives will be lost, money will be spent, and in some cases, residents

Many lives will be lost when the next earthquake strikes. During the 1906 San Francisco earthquake

The Welfare Of Foreign Workers
The welfare of foreign workers in Singapore is not taken care of seriously. Welfare refers to a
person or a groups happiness, health and well being. In this essay, I will be looking it from three
different perspectives of why the welfare is not taken care of seriously. Firstly, the treatment they
received, next, the food they eat and lastly the living conditions that they stay in.
In Singapore, there are around 1.32 million of foreign workers. Majority take up low skilled
jobs, for example construction workers and domestic helpers. These jobs are called the 3D jobs,
which means it is dirty, dangerous and difficult. They act as an invisible backbone to many well
developing and fast growing economic countries as they build our houses and roads which are
essential in a country. As they take up jobs that Singaporeans are not willing to do, we are obliged
to treat them better. Or at least give them the basic rights and respect. However, people do not treat
them the way they should.
There are many incidents of people mistreating foreign workers in Singapore. This includes not
giving them enough dignity and also abuse. In Unattended Foreign Maid, Migrant Workers
Singapore (2009), it mentions that a poster was pasted outside a local food court, with the words
THIS IS NOT THE WAITING AREA FOR FOREIGN MAID.UNATTENDED FOREIGN MAID
WILL BE HANDED TO THE SECURITY on it. (as cited in Huang, S.,Yeoh, B. S.A., 2015,
p.175). It clearly proves that locals do not treat them equally,

Historical Impact Of 1968
THE IMPACT OF 1968
The world revolution of 1968 of course primarily concerned a series of major political issues: the
hegemony of the United States and its world policies, which had led it into the Vietnam war; the
relatively passive attitude of the Soviet Union, which the 1968 revolutionaries saw as collusion
with the United States; the inefficacy of the traditional Old Left movements in opposing the status
quo. In retrospect, 1968, the year of global revolt halfway between the end of World War II and the
end of the Cold War, looked like a failed revolution. Nonetheless, the impacts of 1968 formulated
ever gradually progressing definitions of today s world system.
The change protagonists attributed for in the belief of a common cause, opposing the domestic and
international status quo establishments in the name of participatory democracy, political freedom,
and personal self determination, were fundamentally doomed from the basic cornerstones of their
initiations. Thus, the main objectives of stopping the autocracy of the state to decentralize its

Big Fish Mistakes
Big Fish has a theme that occurred throughout the movie as Barrie Wilson would call Big Fish a
story of redemption (Wilson 10). Throughout the movie, Edward had made life mistakes that was
eventually redeemed in the end of the movie. Edward, despite being destined as a hero, made
several mistakes throughout the film and he ended up redeeming himself for all his mistakes. The
first encounter that Edward has was with Karl. In a way, Edward solved Ashton problem with the
giant, but it was compensated with Karl losing his home. Edward redeemed himself with Karl by
introducing Karl to a group of people that accepted him, which happens to be the circus. In a way,
Karl life was better and more meaningful since he was wanted in the circus than compared to Ashton

Will also had to redeem himself for his actions that he had done in the past. At first, Will believed
Edward stories to be a hundred percent true. Until he was near his marriage date, he started to
question his father life and ended up belittling his stories every single time he talks about it after
marriage. It got bad to the point where Will believed that there was no truth in any of his story.
Will also ended suspecting Edward cheating on his mother since he was frequently gone for a
period of time when he was little. When Will son was about to born, Will ended up badgering
his father constantly for his father s real identity. Will wanted to tell real factual stories about
this father to his son since he felt that he barely knows his father at all. Little does he knows, he
actually knows almost everything about his father life. This was later revealed when he visited
Jennifer, a person who Edward saved. Jennifer ended up revealing the truth behind Edward period
of disappearance when he saved Specter. She also confessed Edward sincere dedication toward his
wife. This encounter left Will in a turmoil since he realized there was some truth in his stories after

have had an abortion. This is because after they think they will never be able to get pregnant again.
Even before a woman has an abortion they experience negative feelings. Some women also

T Cell Polarization
The classical view of Th1/Th2 paradigm argues that T cell polarization is determined by the nature
of the pathogen and their infectious cycle. Therefore Th1 response is triggered by intracellular
pathogen while Th2 response is triggered by helminth infections. Although microbes and local
microbial environment does affect T cell differentiation into Th1 or Th2, this is not the entire story.
In this essay, I will explain how the host can determine T cell polarization. Hormonal factors as
well as the nature of antigen presenting cells have an effect in preferential T cell differentiation.

This process is especially important during pregnancy where the fetus may be seen as foreign to the
immune system and therefore promoting secretion of pro inflammatory cytokine by Th1 response
resulting in abortion (2). This is further supported by the experiments that injection of IFN Оі (3)
and IL 2 (4) into pregnant mice can lead abortion and preterm labour. Therefore secretion of
estrogen and progestin from the placenta is responsible to immunotolerance of the fetus during
pregnancy. As well, in a study where C57BL/6 mice were infected with Leishmania major,
pregnant C57BL/6 mice mounted a Th2 response as opposed to the Th1 response mounted by
control mice demonstrating that during pregnancy, Th2 response is predominant (5). Huber et al.
(6) demonstrated that when infected with coxsackievirus B3, male BALB/c mice had higher
serum IgG2a as well elevated levels of IFN Оі and IL 2. At the same time, female BALB/c mice
infected with the same virus had higher IgG1 and IL 4, suggesting that male BALB/c mice had a
predominately Th1 response whereas female BALB/c mice had a predominately Th2 response.

The Power of Social Engineers in The Art Of Deception by...
The Art of Deception is an in depth look at the vulnerability that the common man has to the
social engineer. Mitnick s perspective comes from a social angle instead of a technological one,
seeing as he is known as the greatest hacker all over media and most of his methods weren t
technologically inclined but socially. A quick look into Mitnick s background, he was an only
child who had a knack for understanding the Nitti Gritty of technology. As a child, he managed
to hack the bus system in Los Angeles and travel for free, exploited telephone networks as a teen
and in college, infiltrated their network and was later hired because it was either that or
expulsion. These are just a few of his many hacking exhibitions. He has served jail time because he
realised what he did was wrong and is now helping companies avoid similar exploitations through
his securitycompany, public talks and through his books.
In this day and age, where information is the new currency on the block, criminals are on the rise
to acquire this information. The book highlights the different techniques and attacks of the social
engineer and how easily we are persuaded into thinking that technology has secured us from these
attacks. He shows these through a variety of stories that have actually happened as indications of
our negligence to these attacks, but as well points out ways that we can protect ourselves from
these attacks and become less victimized by the social engineer. He gets us to look through

The World s Biggest Package Delivery Company
2.1. Company overview
UPS had been in existence for over one hundred and seven years. It was initially started by two
individuals. These men started the company inside of the United States and it was initially a
messenger company. Over the years, the company has experienced a tremendous amount of growth.
It has evolved from a very small operation to a multi billion dollar company. The amount of growth
is attributed to how the company has concentrated its efforts and focused upon helping good to
transported and shipped around the world.
Currently, the company is a global giant, in terms of its ability to move goods. Also, the
company is highly visible and easily recognized. Over the years, it has become the world s
biggest package delivery company. However, it has also evolved to offer many other offerings
and services. On a daily basis, the company operates and manages how goods and information are
shipped throughout the world. UPS uses many different approaches to shipping goods and
information. The company owns and operates a fleet of vehicles and it also has a fleet of airplanes
as well. However, a main component of how the company differentiates itself from its competitors
is how it has Supply Chain Management offerings. This is an area where the company has a
competitive advantage against other companies in the industry. The company also has advantages
in terms of how it uses technology to become efficient. This is highlighted by the handheld

A Global Perspective Of Beat Terrorism
How to use a Global Perspective to beat Terrorism
On July 14th, 2016, France suffered a devastating terrorist attack as a truck driver targeted his
vehicle against the citizens of Nice, killing more than 50 people and injuring several more.
Although 2016 has not ended, the world has suffered more terrorist attacks this year than any
other year in history (Dorell). The group spearheading terrorist attacks in recent years is the
Islamic State, also known as ISIS, a radical Sunni Muslim organization founded in Middle Eastern
nations of Iraq and Syria (Cockburn). The history of Eurocentrism, western exploitation, and global
inequality in post colonial times has corrupted nations, causing people to resort to terrorist
organizations. The international community s social and political goals following World War II
are related to combating terrorism, as the world s leaders come together to discuss terms of peace,
security, and unity against the common enemy of war and death. Terrorism challenges our world s
leaders to repair nations and people groups broken by the hands of the past colonial empires,
eliminate the Eurocentric domination in the world s economy and politics, and take charge against
human rights violations worldwide. The world is undoubtedly Eurocentric and favors Western
interests, with Western nations having a domineering advantage over developing nations in relation
to politics and the global economy. For example, the World Bank s voting power is distributed

Wireless Sensor Networks And Technology Constraints
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) present universally and growing rapidly due to its unique
features, such as their less weight, cheap, and wireless nature. However, due to its highly
constrained computational and energy resources this network is exposed to numerous attacks that
affect its security. So, it is important to address these security issues from the beginning of the
system design. but, due to inherent resource and computing constraints, security in sensor
networks poses diverse challenges than traditional network security so, designing security
protocols for all layers in this kind of a network becomes an compelling need. In this paper, we
studied several existing WSN security protocols and data link layer security algorithms, which
ensures a safe communication link between neighboring nodes by supervising the medium access
and handling the errors. The purpose of this paper is Not Only Studying and explaining the
strength and limitations of the existing energy efficient security protocols of the data link layer
but also and determine the crucial security requirements which should be taken into consideration
for design of future of data link security protocols. I.INTRODUCTION Sensor network got
tremendous focus due to its less cost and small size and which can be placed anywhere. A sensor
network consists of number of sensor nodes dispersed in a specific geographical area. These sensor
nodes communicate using wireless transceivers. These networks are widely used

Essay On Website Builders
DIY Website Builders are SEO Friendly or not?
A DIY website builder is a program that is accessible online (it is software) where you can sign up
using just your email address, and the program allows you to start inserting components such as
text, images, slideshows, etc., into a blank canvas so you can start populating your website. These
websites are the likes of Wix, Weebly, Google Sites, WordPress, blogger, etc.
Many people are complaining about the performance of website builders in search engines. Some
argue that it s impossible to rank well for them. The reality is that they are not excessively different
from other website development tools, what is important is how you use them.

of them spend considerable time and resources to improve their search rankings.
One can as well improve his/her SEO performance with a website builder by considering few things
1. Web Technologies:
When speaking about web design technologies, I mean staying away from Flash (or at least
using less Flash) and using more digestible or engine friendly programming languages instead.
You might be shocked to learn that in ancient times, many website builders used to be exclusively
Flash based services (until Flash was proven to be SEO unfriendly). Take Wix for instance. It had
been using a platform based on Adobe Flash till March 2012. Since then it has been using HTML5.
2. On Page SEO Features:
While choosing a site builder, pay close attention to what we call SEO blocks or SEO packs.
Usually, these allow users to easily insert meta tags: title, description, and keywords. Website
builders with advanced SEO capabilities, H1 title tag

Analysis of WedgewoodВґs The Thirty Years War Essay
Wedgwood, C.V. The Thirty Years War. London: Lowe Brydone Ltd, 1938. Print. It is difficult to
determine when the Thirty Years War really began. Ultimately, a culmination of events led to the
tension between the countries of the Ottoman Empire. Prior to the war s beginning on May 23,
1618, Europe was in a state of religious, political, and imperial turmoil. The Lutherans, Catholics,
and Calvinists were all competing for religious dominance. Political leaders tried to advocate for
their religions in the elections. There was much controversy regarding the new kings of Bohemia
and political stress between the Bourbons and the Hapsburgs. War was... Show more content on

Although Wedgwood mentions the incident, she doesn t emphasize it being a huge turning point
with regard to the conflicts in Germany. The extraordinary chance which had saved three lives
was a holy miracle or a comic accident according to the religion of the beholder, but it had no
political significance (Wedgwood p. 79). The Denfenstration of Prague is the initial event that
instigated the tension because it was a rebellion. People became angry and fought for what they
thought was right. Frederick and Ferdinand began to raise their own armies by asking for help
from other European countries. Ferdinand received assistance from Maximilian of Bavaria. In
Western Civilizaton, it also mentions him getting help from Spain. He ensured this help by
promising Frederick s lands to them. Wedgwood explains that this could be considered
unconstitutional according to the Peace of Augsburg. Ferdinand signed this document declaring
that German liberties would be observed in 1555. This means that each country can have its own
religion if it s Catholic or Lutheran and that they are the Electors for the empire. If the German
princes do not consent to the impeachment of Frederick as Bohemian king, then giving the land
away is stealing. Frederick asked England for support, especially since he was married to the
English King s daughter Elizabeth. Unfortunately, the king had declined any

Comparing Women And Men s Basketball
It is officially basketball season! Do you know what this means? This means crazy fans going
topless, painting their torso one color, incise a letter to spell out their team s name, and excessive
screaming. It is such an interesting atmosphere to be in. However, there is a difference between
men and women basketball. What is the difference? Women and men s basketball are different in
so many ways. Even though their size, athleticism, speed, and strength are comparable they are less
competitive, are not able to reach the same level of stability while men add an interest to the game.

  • 2. Social Citizenship vs. Civil Citizenship Social Citizenship vs. Civil Citizenship Civil citizenship and social citizenship are two aspects of the same theory i.e. social welfare. They appear to be the forces which if managed well, will keep the society in balance ensuring the rights of every citizen are respected and provided by the state and other institutions. However, today s American society is more prone to viewing civil citizenship as more reputable attribute guaranteeing prestige and status in society whereas social citizenship is perceived as stigmatic and abhorrent. Although American society bears all the elements required for social citizenship in its foundation however the dominance provided to civil citizenship has changed the outlook of American society in past few centuries. Since civil citizenship ensures that the state and the citizen are involved in equilateral contract, therefore it is considered to guarantee esteem whereas social citizenship is synonymous to unilateral contract where the state is offering necessary services without receiving anything in return; this ideology demeans the stature of social citizenship. Fraser and Gordon (1992) claim that the U.S. has no social citizenship. They also argue that the concept of social citizenship includes ideas from three political traditions liberal themes of rights and equal respect, communitarian norms of solidarity and shared responsibility, and republican ideals of participation in public life (p.46). A careful view of American society ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about Rita s Change and her Relationship with Frank Rita s Change and her Relationship with Frank How does Rita s character change and her relationship with Frank alter during the course of the play? Educating Rita is the story of a married working class woman, Rita, trying to better and discover herself by attending an open university course. The play follows her as her character and relationship with her tutor, Frank develop and change until she finally passes her exams and they part. Rita completely transforms herself through her education and by the end she can choose what to do next rather then being swept along by circumstances and everyone else s expectations. Rita says that she only wants a baby when she s got choice and by educating herself she is getting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Frank is taken back by her brash behaviour and tries to counter it and take control with long words, like embrace a more comprehensive scholarship you can see him warming to her. Bienkowski PSCYH 655 March 23, 2015 Professor Karen Hoeve Clinical Assessment in Health Centers Clinical assessments have their place in almost every facet of the psychological and educational realms. I have been tracking down and examining what the most important aspects of assessment are that come into play in regard to drug and substance abuse, custody battles, as well as the importance the role of adhering to the ethical standards of utilizing culturally informed assessments. Clinical assessments within mental health centers are carry great importance in the identifying underlying behavioral problems, diagnosis, and treatment of patients. Behind every assessment is a clinician who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through the interpretation of both verbal and nonverbal language, as well as the specific client complaints, clinicians can pinpoint important markers within behavior and can generate an understanding of their patient and determine the type of treatment that would be best for their client. In all psychological and biological assessment, the use of culturally attuned assessments is top priority. We may define culturally informed psychological assessment as an approach to evaluation that is keenly perceptive of and responsive to issues of acculturation, values, identity, worldview, language, and other culture related variables as they may impact the evaluation process or the interpretation of resulting data (Cohen, Swerdlik, Sturman, 2013). Through this process key individuals contribute to the understanding of the client including family, friends, and coworkers input and information. Through the use of translators and other cultural affiliates clinicians are able to demonstrate a clearer understanding, a culturally applicable assessment, and ensure that the client understands the ins and outs of the assessment process. One important aspect of the implementation of the one size fits all approach to culturally attuned treatment and care in our mental health facilities (Cohen, Swerdlik, Sturman, 2013). Assessment and clinical evaluations should not be a cookie cutter experience. The amount of patients that are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Fourteenth Amendment s Due Process Clause Bars... Judge Simon Skinner and Judge Leslie Tiller are judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, respectively. Each judge has an involved history with Minnesota s governor, Joyce Cooper. In this paper, I address whether the Fourteenth Amendment s Due Process Clause bars Skinner and Tiller from hearing two unique cases to which Cooper is a party. I conclude that, for both judges in both cases, it does not. *** I begin with the relationship between Judge Skinner and Governor Cooper, who are related in two ways, one significant and the other less so. First, and less significantly, Cooper taught Skinner construction law at Minnesota s flagship law school. Skinner would later own a construction company of his own, NWA Construction. Upon his confirmation to the 8th Circuit, Skinner sold the company, in its entirety, to his son. More significantly, Cooper, then serving as chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, actively lobbied to confirm Skinner to the 8th Circuit after his nomination. Cooper contacted all other members of the Senate, promising them gratitude and a yay vote on a future federal judge nominee for a yay vote on Skinner s confirmation. Cooper even targeted 51 other Senators, for whom she held fundraisers that raised $58,000 per Senator. These fundraisers occurred immediately before the Senate s vote on Skinner s confirmation, and all 51 Senators for whom Cooper fundraised and Cooper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Interpersonal Conflict Resolution And Mediation Interpersonal Conflict Resolution and Mediation Conflict is a problematic situation that occurs between interdependent people who seek different goals or means to those goals. Conflict is inevitable as relationships become closer, more personal, and more interdependent, more conflicts occur, perceived trivial or minor complaints become more significant, and feelings become more intense. Conflict has many definitions (opposing viewpoints, when opponents engage in battle, going against one another in some fashion, incompatibility between the objectives of two or more characters or forces) and approaches (avoiding, accommodating, competing, collaborating, compromising). Interpersonal conflict is the disagreement between two people in respect to values and attitudes that leads to resentment. Definitions tend to imply that conflict is not a beneficial behavior in which to engage. However, proactively addressing conflict via mediation has been known to restore peace, enhance relationships, and bring cohesiveness to an otherwise divided team. In the study of conflict, one soon realizes that the workplace is often the perfect setting for conflict to occur. According to Wilmot and Hocker (2001), when assessing even a seemingly small interpersonal conflict, one can benefit from a careful and objective assessment. In many situations involving conflict, one party often has a significant amount of power over the other, resulting in an advantageous situation for the stronger party. This ... • 8. Failure Of An After School Boat Building Team You only fail if you do not try. Failure is many times the stopping point of a person s success. I believe that failure is actually pushing yourself forward to later reach your goal. This failure in my life has taught me to communicate more with my teammates and better prepare myself for what to expect. My experience with failure involved an after school boat building team. Every year, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California holds an event called the Solar Cupeach year at Lake Skinner. This event involves many schools throughout California that form teams to build a boat that can be powered by solar. My team was formed with the combination of three high schools, Tahquitz, West Valley, and Western Center Academy. On the first day I had the opportunity to meet new people from the different schools. This gave me the chance to create bonds with new people. It all started with brainstorming ideas about how the boat should be. A tech report was also needed to be done so that the organizers can know what components are going to be involved with the boat. I did the technical report which involved having the information of each component of the boat, whether that be the design of the boat or the materials being used for the boat. I had to make sure that each detail of the tech report was good so that I can start on building the boat with my team. After our tech report was done, the building process of the boat began. • 9. How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry Essay How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry Seamus Heaney was born in the North of Ireland in 1939 on a farm with his mother and father and nine other siblings. Generally Heaney s poems are influenced by animals through his childhood experience, specifically within The Early Purges and An Advancement of Learning . Heaney grew up near Belfast, during the time of The Troubles , the Irish civil war. Although Heaney left at the height of the war, it is obvious his work reflects his experiences of that time. For an example The Early Purges illustrates this. Where they consider death unnatural . Heaney uses words such as, purges , the water pumped in , scraggy wee shits , dunghill and dung to suggest that the kittens seem like waste. The title reflects the idea of waste, as the word purges means getting rid of undesirables. The water pumped in, indicates what happens when flushing a toilet, therefore getting rid of waste. Dan Taggart calls the kittens, scraggy wee shits which shows that he doesn t care about the killing of the kittens and treats them as waste to be got rid of. He justifies his actions by suggesting the kittens have no value. A dunghill can be used for getting rid of dung and the kittens are sluiced on the dunghill. The word sluiced means flushed indicating a toilet, so the kittens are therefore treated as waste. Throughout the poem we are viewing the killing through Heaney s eyes and it is evident that he does not like the killing as he uses words such as soft , tiny and frail to suggest the kittens are innocent and harmless. The words, For days I sadly hung round the yard, watching the three sogged remains and the fear came back suggest he was affected by the carnage and murder he witnessed. However, toward the end of the poem he is forced to accept the killing and torture. Heaney became numb, unfeeling and almost deadened. This is shown in the words, I just shrug, Bloody pups . It makes sense . He is almost imitating Dan Taggart at this point to justify ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Essay on Methamphetamine as a Sleepless Dream or... Methamphetamine as a Sleepless Dream or Addictive Nightmare Methamphetamine has reclaimed a place in the lexicon of party drugs. Hailed by nocturnal adventurers, condemned by raver idealists, is speed a sleepless dream or an addictive nightmare? Here at the end of the millennium, the pace of modern life seems fleeting a whirl of minutes, hours and days. In dealing with the changes, humans have equipped themselves with the tools to move faster, more efficiently. At the same time a dependence for the marketing, high speed transportation and pharmacology of this modern age has evolved. In a race to outdo ourselves, we have moved dangerously toward the fine line between extinction and evolution. Therefore, the human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The hyperreality of today goes hand in hand with the drugs being administered. It s 6 a.m. Around the speaker bins are small packs of animated dancers grinding their feet into the floor and shaking their hands in front of them. The lookie loos and weekend warriors have long since gone home. Absent from their faces are the smiles of midnight, replaced by the blank, vacant stare of sleepless dreams. They have a name in the rave community, they are tweakers. Tweaking, the common name for sniffing lines of speed, the drug methamphetamine, (popular for its availability and price) has somehow replaced MDMA and LSD as the perfect rave drug, allowing users the clear head and stamina to keep dancing long after their bodies have gone to sleep. A prominent opinion during the aftermath of the Los Angeles Summer of Love was that speed killed the rave scene. Where speed had been seen in every scene from metal to the punk scene, for some reason it was shocking for some to see methamphetamine take hold, even though MDMA (an amphetamine like substance) had been circulating for years. Some likened the rise to the quash of young newcomers, some equated it with the greed of drug dealers. Judging from today s roster of events throughout the nation, raves are still alive and well. However, many old schoolers have been turned off by the newbie vibe that came with speed s rise in popularity. Some were casualties themselves of the drug s addictive nature. Others ... Occupiers Liability from the Common Law The first point to note when analysing occupiers liability is that originally it was separate to the general principles of negligence which were outlined in Donoghue v Stevenson .The reason for this pigeon hole approach was that the key decision of occupiers liability, Indermaur v Dames was decided sixty six years prior to the landmark decision of Donoghue v Stevenson. This was evident in the case of Rooney v Connolly where liability was imposed on a priest when a girl that he had encouraged to visit the local church injured herself stretching over lighted candles. The permission to enter the land as a licensee may be expressed or implied. An issue arises when the permission is implied. Often children entered premises without the permission of the landowner without the objection of the landlord. But did this make them a licensee or a trespasser? Fitzgibbon J put it eloquently in Kenny v ESB An open gate or an unfenced field does not amount to an invitation or licence urbi et orbi to enter upon private property Often the courts would have to interpret particularly in cases involving minors whether tolerance could be implied as amounting to permission to enter the land. The courts would often analyse the tolerance issue in deciding cases as best to deliver justice in cases where there was no clear outcome. The fourth category is that of a trespasser. This category has radically developed in the last thirty years. Originally a trespasser was owed a very limited duty of care. The duty owed to a trespasser was that they could not be injured intentionally and not to act with reckless disregard to their person or property . In the 18th century, women were only given the power to submit to bear children, submit to their husband, and be a housewife. Rights were given to women but their roles and expectations were still appended to their gender. In the novel Pride and Prejudice, author Jane Austin s motive was to reveal how women s expectations challenged women with different personalities and how things haven t changed since the 18th century. Back then, a woman was expected to be ladylike and mature. Lydia Bennet is the youngest child in the Bennett family who is immature and obsesses over men. When Lydia runs away with an older man name Mr. Wickham, her womanhood was challenged by society. Chromium VI is highly toxic to human beings and the company, knowing how toxic it is, dumps it into the water that the residents use. When Erin finds out about the chromium VI in the water, she begins by bringing it to the attention of the families who may have been affected by it. The ability to communicate anonymously is viewed as part of our basic right to free speech . With the advent of computers and ease of access to the internet, becoming anonymous as never been easier, and is far more reaching than the colonial newspapers of 1787. For some this ease at which we can communicate anonymous is cause for concern. Although we are no longer hiding our identities to promote the ratification of the Constitution, being anonymous still plays a large role in our society. Online anonymity grants anyone with an internet connection an unbiased voice, regardless of gender, race, or wealth. Without this freedom to online anonymity many people would not feel free to express themselves or release sensitive information about themselves or about corruption, in the case of whistleblowing. Anonymity can also be used as a security measure and prevent unauthorized mining of personal information. Although multiple ethical framework will be used and compared, using a consequence based framework will be the main examining point throughout. The use of the term anonymous can be confusing from an online perspective. When speaking of anonymity in such a sense it is not related to the degree of traceability, but to the lack of aspects such as image, voice, and situation in the online social environment . The first ten chapters describe the journey of Candideand his friends through Europe. Chapter ten depicts his journey at sea from Europe to the Americas. The following ten chapters depict Candide in America where he reaches the seemingly perfect country El Dorado. There is one important point in the story where the reader gets a sense that candied has lost his optimism, and it is the only point where the word optimism is used in the novella. It occurs when Cacambo asks What is optimism? to which Candide replies it is the mania for insisting that all is well when all is by no means well. Wood also converses that while Pangloss is considered a philosopher, Candide is one as well. He sees Candide as a philosopher because he loves to talk about philosophical ideas, but above all he is young, and his youth permits him attitudes which are not all that far removed from the initial provincialism of his native Westphalia. In this essay, I will be looking it from three different perspectives of why the welfare is not taken care of seriously. Firstly, the treatment they received, next, the food they eat and lastly the living conditions that they stay in. In Singapore, there are around 1.32 million of foreign workers. Majority take up low skilled jobs, for example construction workers and domestic helpers. These jobs are called the 3D jobs, which means it is dirty, dangerous and difficult. They act as an invisible backbone to many well developing and fast growing economic countries as they build our houses and roads which are essential in a country. As they take up jobs that Singaporeans are not willing to do, we are obliged to treat them better. Or at least give them the basic rights and respect. However, people do not treat them the way they should. There are many incidents of people mistreating foreign workers in Singapore. This includes not giving them enough dignity and also abuse. In Unattended Foreign Maid, Migrant Workers Singapore (2009), it mentions that a poster was pasted outside a local food court, with the words THIS IS NOT THE WAITING AREA FOR FOREIGN MAID.UNATTENDED FOREIGN MAID WILL BE HANDED TO THE SECURITY on it. In retrospect, 1968, the year of global revolt halfway between the end of World War II and the end of the Cold War, looked like a failed revolution.
