The Medicare Bill
The Medicare bill was signed into law on July 30, 1965 by President Johnson. The signage came long
after an attempt by President Truman to develop a national insurance fund that could be utilized by all
Americans. During the signing of the bill, President Johnson explained that with the Medicare
program an individual can insure themselves against illness that may present during their senior years.
Additionally, he commented that there were more than 18 million low income Americans who are
greater than 65 years of age and cannot afford to treat their illnesses. The Medicare program is
overseen by The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and has evolved over time.
Medicare now covers individuals under the age of 65 who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The goal of this deception is to obtain a federal healthcare payment that would not otherwise exist.
The provider, practice, or institution may falsely claim to have provided a service or used supplies for
a patient when in reality neither the service nor the supplies were used. A secondary way to commit
Medicare fraud involves referrals. If one solicits, pays, or accepts money to encourage referrals
because the services are reimbursed by Federal healthcare programs, they are participating in
Medicare fraud. This type of fraud is addressed in the Anti Kickback Statute. Lastly, Medicare fraud
occurs when the complexity of services are overstated and billed at a higher than necessary rate. This
action violates the False Claims Act which protects the government from being excessively charged
for goods and services.
Medicare fraud is illegal and remedies are sought at both a civil and criminal level. If a provider,
practice, or institution is found guilty of Medicare fraud, the consequences may include a loss of
license, monetary penalties, and the inability to participate in Federal healthcare programs. The Office
of Inspector General (OIG), which is a part of the U.S. Department of Health Human Services, has the
ability to exclude individuals who participate in Medicare fraud. The guilty party will be listed on a
searchable database on the OIG website. The list is officially referred to as the List of

Annie Dillard s An Exploration Into The Way Human Beings
At some point in each of our lives we will take a step back and look at the way we are living our lives
and wonder if we are living them correctly. This is exactly what annie dilliard does in this essay.
Annie Dillard s essay is just an exploration into the way human beings might live. When she sees a
weasel, she looks into the life of that weasel. Studying how it lives its life. Then she compares it to
humans. Human beings are creatures of caution and fear. We never fully live our lives because we are
too caught up with avoiding risks. We think, debate, and calculate each and every move while weasels
just simply act. A weasel is a creature of action and instinct. A weasel lives its life the way it was
created to, not questioning his motives, simply striking when the time is right. I agree with Dillard s
idea that we might learn something of mindlessness, something of the purity of living in the physical
senses and the dignity of living without bias or motive (Dillard 210).
The thing that keeps human beings from living the purest life possible, like the weasel is our minds.
To live freely we need to live our lives with less hesitation and fear. Dillard says we should forget our
ability of thought and choice all together. But the way we live should not be simply thrown away for a
chance to live completely free of bias or motive (Dillard 210). We have our morals, conscience,
emotions, and values. We have the ability to think and feel at the same time. We can chose how

Fair Value Accounting
Moving towards Fair Value Accounting
In the past, historical cost measures were mainly used for reporting as they are reliable. However,
historical cost is only relevant upon acquiring the asset and becomes irrelevant as time passes. On the
other hand, fair value based reporting, which accounts for changes in fair values, can produce balance
sheet figures that provide a better reflection of the company s value. This is also why accounting
bodies are moving towards fair value accounting (FVA).
One of the evident standards is the FASB Standard (SFAS) 157, Fair Value Measurements , to
establish clear, consistent guidelines for fair values measurements and disclosures. SFAS No. 133,
Accounting for Derivative Instruments and IAS 39 also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is found that managers are more likely to manage earnings because it is hard to verify whether the
estimated fair value figures are well intentioned or manipulated. Having to rely on their estimates
introduces informational asymmetry. As in the case of Level 3 inputs, since managers have private
information regarding appropriate values to select for model inputs as well as the underlying
economic value of an asset (or liability), the informational asymmetry will create two problems
adverse selection and moral hazard.
Black et al. found that fair value accounting mitigates incentives for firms to time asset sales to
manage earnings. If fair value measures capture unrealized gains and losses that reflect the future
earnings, firms will have little incentive to increase current income at the expense of future earnings.
However, there are still chances for managers to value assets upwards to increase income so as to
increase their performance based compensation, abide by the debt covenant restrictions and reduce
political cost as explained by the positive accounting theory. They could simply take a big bath during
rainy days and use the timing of impairments or upward revaluation reversals to boost future earnings
for even better compensation. Hence, accounting standard setters and securities regulators need to
determine how much latitude to give managers when they estimate fair values and to

The Sinus Node
The Sinus node is a small bundle of specialised cells located in the right atrium of the which generates
an impulse in the heart. The electrical activity spreads through the walls of the atria and causes them
to contract. This forces blood into the ventricles, which sets the rate and rhythm of the heartbeat. A
pacemaker is needed to maintain an adequate heart rate, either because the heart s natural pacemaker
sinus node is not fast enough or there is a block in the heart s conduction system.
As knowledge of the human body expanded a range of electrotherapeutic experimentations were
conducted by pioneering scientists and physicians. Methods utilized both direct current and static
electricity. It became clear that the heart was an organ especially sensitive to electricity as well and as
early as 1788, attempts were made to treat irregular heartbeats with an electric shock. By 1932, a
primitive form of today s pacemaker was invented as a hand cranked device by Albert Hyman
(Engineering and Technology History Wiki, 2015). Hyman s pacemaker was powered by a hand
wound spring driven generator that provided six minutes of pace making without rewinding (Haddad,
Houben and Serdijin, 2006). Today s pacemaker weighs about 28 grams and is approximately the size
of an Australian 50 cent piece (Medtronic n.d.).
The objective of electrical stimulation is to replace natural biological impulses by external artificial
electrical impulses. Electrostimulation is needed when the heart

Doppelgänger s That Lived In A Tiny Town In Russia
Two doppelgänger s that went by the names of Anastasia and Daevea lived in a tiny town in Russia.
The town ran on a single clock tower, whose gears turned by itself. The clocktower kept the
inhabitants of the town and their houses alive and colorful. One fateful day the twisted doppelgänger
Daevea made the terrible choice to enter the forbidden forest outside of their pocket sized town. The
forest was filled with evil spirits and creatures of the night and contained an enchantresses book of
spells. The book was hidden away deep in the brush of the forest. Daevea decided to steal the book for
her own destructive needs. Daevea was so jealous of her fellow doppelgänger she decided she needed
to kill her. Daevea and Anastasia might have had the

A Demographic Dividend For Tanzania
A Demographic Dividend for Tanzania? Youth Engagement in Policy Formation
Chatham House, 21 September 2016. Chatham House rule does not apply to this event.
Speaker: Nesia Mahege (NM), Acting Country Manager, British Council Tanzania
Discussant: Constatine Manda (CM), Department of Political Science, Yale University
Chair: Adjoa Anyimadu, Research Associate, Africa Programme, Chatham House
What was discussed? The discussion focused on the Next Generation Youth Voices in Tanzania report,
a research project that gathered more than 3000 responses from the Tanzanian youth on career
prospects, aspirations and fears. This study was carried out by the DFID in collaboration with the
British Council Tanzania to provide a snapshot of the youth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

NM highlighted how these results are influenced by cultural factors, since job opportunities in the
rural sector are not perceived as an attractive and successful field to the youth.
On the other hand, young people associate the business sector with power, wealth, and respect.
Lack of skills, education, jobs, and financial support are the main concerns the Tanzanian youth has.
For the young Tanzanian women, early pregnancy and challenges associated with it is what they fear
the most.
Access to quality education is one of the key priorities for the youth, as 1 million Tanzanians graduate
annually, but only 20% are able to actually get a job.
Tanzanian youth does not have access to information on youth policies put in place by the
government, which is problematic. Only 4% are aware of youth policies, while 96% are.
CM highlights the five conclusions drawn from the report:
The fact that around 39% of the youth are concerned with the political situation in Zanzibar raises
questions on the direction this region is taking.
The slogan of the political campaign of the current president is just work , yet the youth is struggling
to find jobs and this trend will continue in the following years. This clearly shows the extent to which
the current government is unaware of how serious the issue of youth unemployment is.
Due to the cultural tradition of always respecting the

Volunteering Reflection
When I was volunteering at N.Y.P.Q., us the volunteers we in charge of bringing material throughout

blood bank document s, specimen to the chemistry lab, and pick ups on another floor throughout the

was my second week volunteering at the hospital on the fifth floor and Monique, the clerk, asked me
to bring down specimen to the chemistry lab because the specimen they had originally received was
insufficient. I asked her for direction which led me to the correct part of the building, but I still couldn

I followed her directions and she gave me the chart. I asked the nurse what I had to do once I get the
patient, and she told me that I would need to ask the patient for their date of birth to confirm their
identity. In addition, to ask them if they have anything on them that will need to be put into their
locker that they have been assigned. I did as I was told and once I had brought them to the fourth floor
and preparing them to lay on the bed, an anesthesiologist came in and called the patient who I was
laying down. She had to wait about 2 minutes until the patient was laid down and they had their
conversation. If I had just asked one of the nurses earlier on the fifth floor for help I would not have
made the anesthesiologist wait and delay the patient s surgery. Another time was on February 28, 2017
when I was assigned to the 3rd floor nurse s administration office. When I was in the office, I saw that
there was another volunteer working on a few documents. We introduced ourselves and her name was
Sharon De Narrio. She was working on a few documents given to her by Barbara, the nurses
coordinator.

The Hidden Treasure Of History
There was a time where I thought my small hometown of Portage, Pa was nothing more than a few
streets that consisted of churches, small town businesses, and homes that housed only about 2,500
people. After many hours of research I have come to find that this small town is actually a hidden
treasure of history that is far too fascinating to express. Although the town of Portage, Pa is only 125
years old, it is full of rich history that has shaped the Portage we all know today. Portage would not be
the town it is today without the economic successes it had with the coal industry and more importantly
the rule it played in the Allegheny Portage railroad. The geography of our town couldn t have been
more perfect to house the railroad with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After a few adjustments to plans the building of the railroad began. The railroad was be completed by
1834 and it would be named the Allegheny Portage Railroad; the word portage is from the French
word porter meaning to carry and Noah Webster defines Portage as carrying something overland from
one body of water to another (Portage Centennial Book Committee, 1990, p.3 4). The Allegheny
Portage railroad would later be added onto the great Pennsylvania railroad that would serve
throughout the whole state. So, first came the railroad and then because of the railroad, the growth of
this new town began.
Because of the railroad being built on this land that was all dense woodland and the steam engines in
this area ran only on wood, the lumbering industry began. Sawmills were build all around the land that
is now today Portage. Then with the new founding of coal, coal mines were also being built. This had
a great economic impact on this land and in the 1860 s and 1870 s settlers began to flood into this
area; most of these settlers were English and German speaking people (Portage Centennial Book
Committee, 1990, p.7 8). During this time there was a town called old Portage and a town next to it
called New Portage. In 1878 the old Portage would be changed to Portage Township and on October
7, 1890 new Portage

Court Trial Essay
The criminal trials I attended at the Boone County Courthouse where very interesting because it was
not the first time ever being in a courthouse and courtroom. I have seen some courtrooms through
videos of trials or pictures from high profile cases such as the shooter in Colorado who opened fire in
a movie theater during Batman in 2012 and I have been to a small courthouse in Calvert County
Maryland. The difference between these two courtrooms was the size and number of people present.
At the Boone County Courthouse the room was small and had a large amount of people ready to see
the Judge. Some of the people present included: the Bailiff, who did his job by making sure everyone
had a seat, was situated and quiet during the court ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This sentencing was in response to the multiple times this gentleman was charged with the same
crime.
The difference between the Bonne County court and the Calvert County court is the size and how
quickly cases where moved through the system. In the Calvert County courtroom I sat and watched
the cases where processed slow and meticulous even the requests for a change of date moved slowly.
While in attendance in Calvert County I heard the judge ask how defendants mothers or families
where and even postpone court dates or sentencing so farmers could bring crops in or so people could
attend family functions. Even the sentencing was odd back home people could get sentenced to just
weekends or even just nights in jail I heard one sentence where someone had to spend every weekend
in jail for the next year, which I thought was strange but the judge said after the sentence that it was to
keep the farms working. In Boone County the courtroom seemed more formal and less personal than a
small town. The judge only cared for the rule of law and not about family matters or the occupation of
the defendant and this is the way a judge should act in my opinion. The personal approach that judges
take in Calvert County compared to Boone County is more influential than an impersonal approach
because people do not want to be seen as just a number. A friend of mine who saw his day in court in
Calvert County said that the judge was very friendly and

An Evaluation Of The Alcoholic Beverage And Conversation...
An independent variable, which is what is varied during the experiment, is what will affect the
dependent variable. A change in the independent variable directly causes a change in the dependent
variable, and you can only have one independent variable. The independent variable is the behavior of
one participant that triggers the behavior of another participant. In the first study, the alcoholic
beverage and conversation topic selected by Participant #1 is the independent variable. In the second
study, the behavior of the seller at the store is the independent variable, as is the verbal and nonverbal
communication of some participants in the third study.
A dependent variable is what you measure in the experiment and what is affected during the
experiment. The dependent variable responds to the independent variable. It is called dependent
because it depends on the independent variable. In a scientific experiment, you cannot have a
dependent variable without an independent variable. In the first study, the response of the second
person to order the drink and take part in the ongoing conversation is the dependent variable. In the
second study, the dependent variable is the mannerisms with which the customer responds to the
seller. In the third study, the dependent variables are the response of the people in the in group , and
the response of the people in the out group . You can have more than one dependent variable, but you

British Electoral System
The maturity of the political system in Britain has gradually shaped the British community. Britain at
present is considered to be a Liberal Democratic state and one main component is the capacity of the
government to conduct an election to allow the people to voice their needs in the national level.
Election is the heart or the core of a democratic state , removing this would deprive the people of their
right. After five years or if the Parliament was dissolved by the Queen with of course the Prime
Minister s advise, there will be an election using the First past the post electoral system. Here the
candidates can win seats in the Parliament by plurality of votes that the candidate received in his or
her district. But then this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Previous writers from the Conservatives said that faith of the members to their party leader would
result in a disciplined party. Naturally, members of a certain party must agree on recognizing their
party leader as a competent being that would be able to guide, unify and bring order to their party,
after all, he or she is a potential Prime Minister in any case their party get the majority of seats in the

be able to act in accordance with party s image to capture most of the voter s sympathy. As Graham
Wallas, a political scientist and author of Human Nature in Politics, pointed out the significance of
political image among the voter s preferences. This is due to the fact that the voters will give support
to parties where they can benefit the most and that reflect on their social status, ethnicity and religion.

Democracy Derailed Essay
Democracy Derailed looks at the initiative process, the effects of that process and asked the question,
Is this a good way to make public policy? I feel that even though the process is not perfect it is a great
way to allow the average citizen more power in policy making.
The History
Democracy Derailed begins with addressing the evolution of the initiative process. During the first
twenty years in Plymouth Colonies, all adult men met to consider legislation. In 1715, Massachusetts
had to address anything that was supported by ten citizens. By 1788, Massachusetts began conducting
referendums, and by the 1850 s, referendums had become an acceptable practice. By the end of the
1800 s, direct legislation in states had become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The common ground that all members shared was their dislike and distrust for Democrats,
Republicans, banks and monopolists. They felt that these groups were controlled by extreme
corruption and infested legislatures with bribes to maintain control and power.
Both groups chose the initiative to help clean up governmental corruption, inspired by its use in
Switzerland. The Webster s Dictionary defines initiative as, the introduction of proposed legislation, as
to popular vote, by voters petitions. This is what dre3w both the Populists and Progressives to
migrating initiatives to the United States. The popular theory was that if voters would gain education
and curiosity connected to public affairs. Initiatives seemed like the logical solution to allow power
directly aback in the people s hands. Woodrow Wilson wrote that, the men who have been ruling
America must consent to let majority into the game...We will not allow the few to continue to
determine what the policy of the country is to be...all men with the convictions of America in their
hearts, will crowd to that standard and a new day of achievement may come for the liberty we love.
Wilson was just one politician to believe that initiatives could help American government. Theodore

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ultrasound
Ever since the beginning of medicine, diagnostic procedures were mainly invasive, meaning that the
patient was cut open, resulting in an excruciating amount of pain for the diagnosis of some simple
conditions, such as pneumothorax and appendicitis. This practice was usual for centuries up until the
early 20th century where the use of waves, electromagnetic or not, in medicine began.
One type of the waves used was the ultrasound wave. The ultrasound waves, are sound waves with a
frequency higher than that of the audible human hearing range (Rouse, What Is Ultrasound?
Definition from WhatIs.com ). The idea of first applying the ultrasound for medical diagnostic
purposes accord simultaneously in more than one country in the world, however the best documented
one was in 1957 in Glasgow, Scotland by the Scottish physician Professor Ian Donald ( The
Development of Ultrasound ). Donald was inspired to pioneer the use of ultrasound waves in medicine

Weighing both the positives and the negatives of the ultrasound all together, it has still made a major

Chiquitas Global Turnaround
Executive Summary
This report details several international management problems that Chiquita has been faced with over
the past two decades. Many of these problems are to do with the company s previously poor image
when it came to Corporate and Social responsibility. Over the years Chiquita faced many accusations
about the conditions workers were faced with at many of their facilities in Latin America and have
also had their environmental policies questioned many times in the press. The company has made
great strides in recent years in improving their public image with regards to corporate and social
responsibility. In particular Chiquita s commitment to the Better Bananas Project has helped improve
their public image along with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in 1998 Chiquita fell a victim of an undercover investigation into dangerous and illegal
business practices. The Cincinnati Enquirer, a paper based in Kentucky, accused the company guilty of
labour, human rights, environmental and political violations in central America, leaving an unsavoury
impression of our company according to Jeff Zalla, current corporate responsibility officer at Chiquita.
(Luthans, F., amp; P. Doh, J. 2012).
The centre of the debate about the CSR is the nature and extent of corporate obligations that extend
beyond the economic and legal responsibilities of the firm. The idea of social responsibilities supposes
that the corporation has not only economic and legal obligations, but also certain responsibilities to
society which extend beyond these obligations (McGuire, 1963: 144). The issue is therefore critical
for the firm as it is in the business s long term self interest to be socially responsible. If Chiquita wants
to have a healthy climate in which to function in the future, it must take actions now to ensure its long
term viability. Ultimately it will benefit the company by winning the public because the public believe
firms should take on social responsibility.

Biological, Psychological, And Social Factors
A bio psychosocial describes an approach systematically considers biological, psychological, and
social factors and their complex interactions in understanding health, illness, and health care delivery.
Biological factors include defective biological processes compounds that lead to biological
dysfunction and illness. Psychological factors are about the individual s emotions, behavior, and
mental processes. Social factors include social status and relations. These factors are all considered in
an attempt to understand the underlying factors of such disease. Sigmund Freud would consider the
social factors in their theories. Behavioral and environmental psychologists ignore the developmental,
biological or psychological aspect of the individual and argue that a human person learns to control
their direct environment in relation to their situations; learning their behaviors with the surroundings
their in. Without combination of other approaches to psychological problems, it is complicated to help
any person with the behavioral model. This is because helping a patient to learn positively rewarding
stimuli without understanding or considering factors like background or biological factor could be
meaningless. Biological approach gives focus on genetically inheritance and the internal body state of
any individual. This could be a good perspective in understanding such problems, but it cannot be
entirely relied upon to explain certain problems. A better approach that would cover

Introduction A virtual private network (VPN) is a system that utilizes public telecommunication
infrastructure, such as the Internet, to offer remote offices or single users with safe access to their

Essay on When One, Equals Two
The traditional family is being challenged. The days when mothers and fathers raised the children
together are sharing equal stature with single parent, mixed families with step parents and siblings by
marriage, and same sex families. Some families are carefully planned with love and are ideal. Some of
these families units have heartbreak in their origins. Family tragedies such as parental death and
separation have torn families apart. Divorce rates are higher than ever and more families are faced
with choosing, even fighting over, with which parent will the children live with. One of the many
statistics found in the U.S. Census in 2007 states that, More than one quarter of all children less than
21 years of age (21.8 million) lived with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In most cases, nature has designated mothers as the caretaker for the raising of offspring. Few argue
the fact that mothers have been the individuals to love and nurture children. From the beginning
recorded history, a mother s first duty was to her husband and then to children, based on traditional
and religious role definitions. But as the traditional families continued to change and evolve, fathers
have been forced to accept the multiple roles required to raise the children alone. Dads have become
moms in a sense.
As modern fathers have become adequate mothers in the single parent family unit, the notion that a
mother is the only nurturing individual in the family is simply not true now. The qualities of love,
patience, and compassion are not gender bound ( Single Dads 2001). Society has long been
transforming men from the cavemen lumbering to skilled hunter gatherers to loving husbands and to
caring parents. As single mothers have had to take on traditional paternal responsibilities as financial
providers and disciplinarians, so to have fathers accepted the traditional maternal roles in the home,
and as caregiver. Cooking and cleaning are shared responsibilities in the family now. Consequently,
men have taken the responsibility to change diapers, wipe runny noses, bathe and comfort their
hurting children in two parent households. Research shows that children benefit greatly when a father
is more involved in the nurturing of his children. So

World Record For Fastest Production Car
You might be familiar with the car company Bugatti, now owned by Volkswagen. Their Bugatti
Veyron Super Sport holds the Guinness World Record for Fastest Production Car. The Bugatti brand
has a long history, beginning in 1909 with Automobiles Ettore Bugatti, a company founded by Ettore
Bugatti.
Ettore Bugatti was born in Italy in 1881 to a family of artists. Bugatti began to establish himself as a
car designer as early as 1901, when his Bugatti Type 2 car won a gold medal at the International
Breeding and Sport Exhibition in Milan, Italy. Bugatti carried on his family s artistic legacy in the
design of his race cars, which became renowned for their speed, power, and elegant design. But he

Here is a quote about De Monge s design philosophy from an article in the Air and Space Magazine:
De Monge left no written record of the thinking that went into the airplane (though he made some
intriguing remarks during an interview conducted late in his life, while he was working as an
automotive engineer in the United States). But [Scotty] Wilson is convinced that de Monge adhered to
the design philosophy espoused by Antoine de Saint Exupéry, the beloved French author and World
War II P 38 pilot: Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is
nothing left to take away.
An example of this philosophy was the removal of a conventional canopy (the glass enclosure around
the pilot). Most fighter aircraft at the time were built with the engine in the nose just behind the
propeller. To allow the pilot to see past the engine, these fighters were built with raised canopies that
sat on top of the fuselage. But having these extra bulges increases drag. Bugatti got around this by
putting the pilot in the nose of the aircraft, and moving the engines. The engines were put behind the
pilot and a system of drive shafts powered the propellers.
After the designs were mostly finalized, construction began. The airplane was built in Paris in the
second floor of a furniture shop.
The frame and skin of the airplane were made almost entirely out of wood, despite the difficulties
involved with shaping wood into rounded shapes. Usually, body

Jackson s removal policy did not sit well with a lot of groups; many were uncomfortable about it but
agreed it had to be done. President Jackson showed great leadership apart from everything else, and
handled the Indian Removal act when no one else wanted to address the growing issue of Indian
problem. Most government officials saw little to gain from addressing this and would do nothing.
Some historians believe the president s motivation was clearly out of concern for the Indians customs,
their culture and their language, but his first concern was the safety of the military, Indians occupying
the east might jeopardize the defense of the United States. In December of 1830 President Jackson
would submitted the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek to congress, it would be the first to win Senate
approval. President Jackson wanted everything to go smoothly so that the American people would see
that he was humane and that this Treaty would benefit both the Indians and the American nation at
large. With Jackson located too far away to oversee the actual removal of the Choctaw Nation, they
would endure mismanagement, theft, corruption, and inefficiency on a level that would lead to their
destruction. Jackson would be deeply offended and the removal of the Choctaw Nation would become
one of the worse horror stories of modem era. Anthony F.C

Jeff Parrish and MIcah Cooper presented a framework for how flight simulators should be made(13).
The goal of this framework is to provide the means for rapid design of aircraft by integrating
simulation of the craft closely with the design process(13) Split into a plane model and three

powerful interface that allows modification of design, and the Utilities subsystem Provides a variety of

An education process is more complex than talking to someone, telling them what you want them to
learn about or learn how to do, and them knowing it or doing it. The purpose of education is to teach
the learner a specific task, or specific information. An education plan consists of specific components.
The components are simple or complex and each component leads to the next. When all the
components are included, the teacher and the learner will have a successful educational experience.
Purpose
The purpose or mission of the education is based upon the mission of the organization or institution in
which the education is taking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The educator will then build his goals based on the student s performance, skills, and behavior. Next,
the educator will develop goals based on the education material being taught. What will the student be
learning about?
Objectives
The objectives of the education are statements about the purpose of the education. These are brief
statements answering specific questions. The ABCD model for writing objectives will assist the
educator in creating objectives for the education. The ABCD of writing objectives is described as: the
audience (A), the behavior (B), the conditions (C), and the degree (D) (Yamanaka, amp; Woo, 2014, p.
77). The objectives give clear statements regarding who will be learning, what they will learn, how
they will complete the task, and how many times they need to complete the task to be considered
proficient.
How to Write Objectives The instructor needs to make the objective an observable behavior and an
object of that behavior. For example, the student will be able to do an IV is unclear. The better
objective would be, the student will be able to insert an IV lock into the patient s extremity and start
IV fluids into the IV lock. When an objective is vague, the learners can interpret it in many different
ways.
Outcomes
The outcomes of the education are consistently demonstrated at the conclusion of the education. The
learning outcome is what the learner knows and is able to complete

It has been Russian writers in particular, who for two centuries have struggled against censorship and
oppression to accomplish two great tasks: to create innovative and meaningful art, and to use that art
to make a statement about a specifically Russian predicament. So often the theme was political, and so
many generations of Russians criticised Mother Russia for her backward ways. Vissarion Belinsky s
caustic admonitions in his Letter to Gogol were long a rallying cry for writers: This is why, especially

Much of GULAG was based on hundreds of letters and memoirs that former prisoners mailed to
Solzhenitsyn after One Day was published. (Remnick, 119)
When reading One Day it is overwhelming to comprehend and imagine this single dawn to dusk
description, with the hindsight to understand that millions of multitudes of men and women suffered
through such an evil scheme of servitude of cruelty.
One Day was the first book of its kind to be printed in Russia. Miraculously, it was not only printed,
but subsequently soldto the citizenry, who were actually allowed to read it. This unheard of event
occurred during a very delicate period of time known as the Khrushchev thaw , when open
condemnation of the cult of personality began to become commonplace, even expected. These brief
years of relief enjoyed a momentary artistic flowering, and poets like Yevgeny Yevtushenko and
Anderi Voznezensky, among others, began to emerge. During Khrushchev s cultural thaw, plays or
novels such as Solzhenitsyn s One Day in the Life of Ivan Denizovich were the primary signs of new
freedom. (Smith, 110) The response to this little book was immense, and an interesting documentation
of varied responses to it is included in Leopold Lebedze s work, Solzhenitsyn: A Documentary

A researcher on the CareGroup network was experimenting with a Napster like file sharing application

required him to go on paternity leave for three weeks. During this time, the researcher accidently left
his new untested application running. By the afternoon of Novemeber 13th 2002, the uncontrolled
software program began wreaking havoc in the CareGroup network. In short and simply put, the

Externalities cannot be prevented and must always be assumed to exist. And yet, Halamka and his IT
group failed to keep their network up to spec as a result of mergers, reorganizations, and other external
activates. With this valuable lesson learned, Halamka and his team will not let the evolving external
factors be the brunt of failure.
#7. There are limits to customer centric responsiveness
Just because a customer desires certain functionality or a service from the network, does not
necessarily mean it s feasible or good for the entire network health. Halamka learned that he will be

negatively impact the network.

Apathy And Its Effects On Society
Apathy Indifferent. Detached. Desolate from any kind of emotion. This is how one feels when apathy
sneaks its way into their brain. Everything they have ever felt becomes a vague and distant memory, a
vast void. There is nothing that can be done, so it seems to the individual. This leaves him/her quite
helpless. And more often than not, the phrases I don t care! , Why does it even matter? , and It isn t
important are overlooked and are labeled rebellious. But should those phrases not spark a greater
concern? It must be terrifying to view a human being who carries on their lives with lassitude.
Whether or not they know wrong from right, their lack of care and concern instigates negative
consequences from loved ones and society. When one is empty of emotions, there is nothing stopping
them from doing wrong, but there is certainly nothing stopping them from doing right. The notion that
apathetic human beings need supervision, due to fear, needs to be reevaluated. This concern for those
with apathy must be aimed at the reason why. This way, individuals will have a greater understanding
of a realm that is so vastly hollow. Half way through this essay s first paragraph, I had stopped caring
and I had told myself it had not mattered and continued to sit in this very seat, just staring at my
laptop. It was a very foolish thing to tell myself, as I had barely begun to type up this assignment. But
why had I become apathetic, what were my reasons? One does not simply stop

It was an insane time in Salem in the 1600 s, and the Hierarchy of the town could be changed

colonial Massachusetts. Nowadays when the Hierarchy is set there is no changing it no matter what,
and if it is changed either they did something really bad or a contract is up. Unlike now it didn t take
much for an entire level of hierarchy to change so quickly. In the Crucible by Arthur Miller the

How Do Arunta Tribes Reflect Their Society
The Arunta are a group of Australian Aborigines who have many customs and reasons for why they do
what they do. Their customs reflect their society because everything they do has a reason. Some
customs may have come about because of the environment, the natural resources, or possibly just
beliefs. There are several customs about family and kinship. An Arunta camp usually has one to two
families. The Arunta live in such small groups so they do not have to worry about hunting a lot of food
for big camps. If their camp were attacked, it would be a lot easier to look after a small amount of
people and belongings. It may be more efficient to hunt in larger groups, because you have more of a
chance to find animals, and if one person were to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the Arunta men were staying away from camp hunting for several days, it would be easier to care
for five or six men instead of twenty. It would also be easier to be able to come home with only a little
meat and still be able to find the whole camp. An Arunta family is usually by itself, but each family
belongs to a clan. The clan is made up of several families, who hunt and live separately. Nevertheless,
the members of the clan are all related. This is kinship. The Arunta clans have to marry outside their
own clan so the clans will mix. The clans have no other social connections so this is very important.
Without this custom, the clans would not be friendly with each other and wars would probably happen
often. There are no forms of government or authority, so the older men of the society make decisions
for the society. They have no way of giving reasons for their decisions, so they are guides more than
they are leaders. Kinship is very important here because if a serious crime erupts, such as murder,
families will take revenge on families. The family is important because if the murderer?s family were
small, they would surely suffer a great deal. Kindness and respect are very important in a society
because the Arunta have no time for warfare and feuds. They need to spend all their time trying to
survive. When someone dies, the family goes into a mourning period. The relatives of the person show
sadness by cutting their shoulders, smearing

In 2011, U.S. sales of new vehicles reached 12.7 million units, the best result since 2007.1 Sales for
2012 were projected to reach 13.8 million units, close to what many experts considered a nonbubble
sales volume of around 14 15 million cars.2 In terms of local manufacturing volume, the U.S. was
third in the world with a record low of 5.7 million new motor vehicles produced in 2009. During the
same year, Japan built 7.9 million cars and China 13.7 million. Just a decade earlier, however, in 1999,
the U.S. dominated the global car industry, manufacturing more than 13 million new vehicles, more
than Japan and China combined at the time.3 Recent volume increases in China were mostly driven by
first time buyers, government incentives, rural subsidies, and reduced sales tax for fuel efficient
vehicles. While the Chinese market was growing at an impressive rate of 40% annually,4 major U.S.
carmakers were still struggling at home.

Compare And Contrast The Colonial Perspectives Of The...
Similar to the way that the colonial and British perspectives greatly varied for the Boston Massacre,
their opinions are once again vastly different for the Battles of Lexington and Concord. In this event
as well, both parties attempt to place the blame on the other which is not unusual due the nature of the
sources. However, this highlights the large amount of bias evident in all of the accounts. For the
colonial perspective, there are two statements, each from a member of a colonial militia that fought
during the Battles of Lexington and Concord. Both of these sources place the blame on the British
soldiers and claim that the British fired first, killing several colonists. One account, from the Battle of
North Bridge, claims that the colonists were ordered to hold their fire and that they didn t fire until the
British opened fire upon them. The other account, from soldier who fought during the skirmish at the
Lexington Green, states that the colonists did not even get a single shot off, at least not before the
soldier whose account this is was wounded. This source also claims that the British commanding
officers were yelling at and insulting the colonists as their ranks closed on the milita. Both these
sources are very similar to the colonial perspectives of the Boston Massacre because they all place the
blame on the British soldiers and attempt to make themselves appear as the victims.

Dr. Ann Freud Theory On Ego Psychology Essay
Theories Selected
Giving a clear definition of psychotherapy and counselling is arduous, as there s a little insufficient
agreement on the definition and on whether there s any variation between the two terms.
Psychotherapy and counselling are interplay between a therapists /counsellor and clients/patients. The
main role of the counsellor is to aid the client in solving problems that may have aspects that are
mainly associated to disorder of thinking, emotional suffering or the problems of the act (Corey, 2009,
p. 111). Most importantly, the therapist/ counselor s way to aiding ought to be legally and ethically
approved.
Ann Freud theory on ego psychology summates to theoretical models of psychoanalysis. In her theory
she applies psychoanalysis to the treatment of the children and prolonged the concept of ego defence
mechanism. She highlighted the significance of observation of children with their parents or their
foster parents. She argues that the growth and development of ego and super ego took place as one
watched (Olson, 2002, p. 114). Because of this, strives are inevitable for all the children during the
period of growth and development. In addition she supports Feud s argument that the child needs
analysis when he or she is in an educational bearing and position .As a result of this, the child
becomes appreciative of the psychoanalytic knowledge, thus the child therapy is needed only in
utmost cases of behaviour. Furthermore, her theory also emphasises on the

David Foster Wallace Consider The Lobster

however in Consider The Lobster by David Foster Wallace the reader is challenged to think on what
his food was before it was food. In Consider The Lobster Wallace explores the Maine Lobster Festival
a correspondent of Gourmet Magazine, during his time at the MLF he sees a new side to lobster and
learns about the lobster as a sentient creature. After his exploration he comes to a moral dilemma of
cooking and eating lobster, he realizes that our society does not think of our food as anything more
than something to eat. Wallace uses his knowledge, research and a large amount emotion to persuade
the reader to think about the food they eat; using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I contemplate this latter possibility: It could be that their lack of endorphin/enkephalin hardware
means that lobsters raw subjective experience of pain is so radically different from mammals that it
may not even deserve the term pain. (63). In this example Wallace is using reasoning and research to
uncover pain as a lobster perceives it. His use of research as well as controversial views really
invigorates the reader and convinces him to think more deeply about his views of pain and the pain
experience. Ultimately, the only certain virtues of the home lobotomy and slow heating methods are
comparative, because there are even worse/crueler ways people prepare lobster. (63). Wallace also
argues the point that our pursuit of cooking lobster humanely is rather pointless when most of the
world outside of America cruelly breaks the lobsters apart while they are alive and cook them. The
technique of comparing the issue throughout the world greatly changes the tone of the essay and
makes the logic of boiling lobster seem much more sound. After all, isn t being extra aware and
attentive and thoughtful about one s food and its overall context part of what distinguishes a real
gourmet. (64). Here Wallace changes his focus from the lobster to the gourmets who speak so highly
of this food. He is trying reason as to why these people who pride themselves on being experts are
being so ignorant to an issue which is relevant to them. Changing the focus also puts the reader in a
different mindset where he is considering himself as the gourmet and trying to reason as to why
ignoring this issue would be

There are plenty of reasons why Lincoln Electric Company (LEC) is successful, and a big one that
people usually credit the success to is the way it s managed. While reading the Lincoln Electric
Company Harvard Case Study by Arthur Sharplin, we learned a lot about the echo of the founder s
philosophies still very present in the company, we looked at the highly rewarding merit pay plan, and
we learned about LEC s authoritarian management style. There are plenty more reasons why LEC has
been so successful over the years but these three are mostly responsible for the productivity,
efficiency, morale, and overall satisfaction of the factory level employees and all the way up to the
President s office. A lot of people thought that once Mr. James Lincoln (better known as Jimmy Sr. )
died in 1965 that the company would stop succeeding. People thought profits would drop,
philosophies would be out of use, and the company would stop following Lincoln s system that had
led them so far. Opposite to that happened. Employee turnover rate became extremely low because of
care to the employees and a well thought up management team. Employee productivity stayed at the
standard that was established because Lincoln s bonuses stayed with the company even when he had
left it The company seemed stronger than ever . In addition to these standards, Lincoln also thought
that the company should finance new locations through earnings made at LEC, not through loans or
borrowing. This philosophy could

Moral 1943-1947 Analysis
The Painting selected for the collection is Mural 1943 1947 by Sante Graziani. Sante Graziani was an
American artist and artist and art educator. He was known for his morals which adorned many public
buildings. The painting allows for an effective opportunity to inspire and evoke interest for arts in
students.
In the fall of 1942, the Museum of Fine Arts declared a competition for the formation of a mural for
the museum. Sante Graziani won the competition. Graziani incorporated the greater part of the arts
dance, music, theater, painting, sculpture, architecture, photography in his design.
I found the painting interesting as it illustrates the relation between all fine arts in a very skillful
manner. Graziani painted four panels which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To the left of the group a man in a horse mask symbolizing the stage of the theatre. Amidst the group
is a young man, maybe speaking to Graziani s desire that both young and old people should take an
interest in the arts. The second panel incorporates a group of young men working on a potter s wheel.
In the center of this panel the artist Leonard Baskin, Graziani s previous school roommate, carves a
square of wood. Music is represented by five youths sitting on a bench: one is playing the mandolin,
on the clarinet, and the others are singing. To the far right of the mural, a man in overalls leads a
young boy up the steps of the platform to enter the scene symbolically entering the world of the arts.
The work can be a great choice for the selection as it highlights the significance of art in a very
holistic manner. The inclusion of African American women and blue as well as white collar workers
depict a realistic picture of the society. As is true about any form of art, a great piece of work is always
rooted in the culture of the artist; the scene in the painting is localized by an inclusion of the local
landmarks and

Persuasive Essay On Capital Punishment
We believe that capital punishment is a wrongful thing for people . More innocent people are taken
from society by death with this penalty and guilty walks away. How do people know that these experts
and detectives mislead things or mistaken evidence that really isn t evidence they just assume of what
they see and base it of a conclusion they believe
In 1992 , Cameron Todd Willingham was accused of setting his three children on fire in their home.
And when you hear this case you would think how sad or evil that is . but what if we told you that he
is innocent and had possibly no evidence that he had killed his children. And this puts us on the side of
where we believe that capital penalty is just wrong. Detectives and policeman proceed right into this
case and looked for possible evidence to see how the fire started , there was no real evidence of Mr.
Todd Willingham started the fire , and this was proven by an expert forensic detective. We believe that
how do people know that these experts and detectives mislead things or mistaken evidence that really
isn t evidence they just assume of what they see and base it of a conclusion they believe . these
forensic and detectives assumed that mr. william was violent, because of his past and he had poster of
a metal band Iron of maiden . and conclusion like this really makes things hard for innocents because
they misinterpret people and get a representation of a person because of things that may look
suspicious or violent or

Greek Religion By Walter Burkert
In Greek Religion , Walter Burkert informs his readers mostly about the Greeks religious beliefs. In
section one, Burkert begins to discuss the history of the Early Bronze Age, such as the vocabulary of
Indo European and the religion of the Minoan Mycenaeans. He mentions the different cult places
which include: caves, temples, graves, as well as peak, tree, and house sanctuaries. For example, a cult
includes the Minoan Tree and Pillar Cult; the pillars and trees were sacred, however, they were not
worshipped. He also goes on to explain about Minoan Deities, Mycenaean Gods and Linear B, and the
Dark Age ; he talks about the evidence that exists of Linear A and Linear B, such as the tablets
recovered from Crete and Knossos. In section two, Burkert describes the different kinds of rituals and
symbols; the bull was a type of symbol from the Hellenistic tradition, and there were festivals that
celebrated the bull itself. Different kinds of rituals Burkert explains include: animal sacrifice, blood
and fire rituals, gift offering and libation, votive offerings, prayer, dancing, hymns, masks, festivals,
and purification. The Anthesteria Festival is described in depth, such as that it occurred in the
springtime for three days; additionally, the reason for the festival is described. Burkert mentions
different types of sanctuaries like the altar and the temple. Also, Greek Religion describes certain
philosophers outlook toward religion. In section three, he focuses his attention

Symbolism In Jesus Camp
In 2006, directors Heidi Erving and Cahal Grady released Jesus Camp . The directors go to Devil s
Lake, North Dakota to document a camp run by and for Evangelicals. Becky Fisher, the camp s leader,
admits that society ought to indocrinate its children. The word evangelical means fervent or zealous.
Becky Fisher furvently trains the children to develop a one sided perception of the world so they can
take back America for Christ. While all Evangelicals do not behave this way, the directors present a
group of these individuals and what they live for. In Jesus Camp , the directors create a political
context, elements of juxtaposition and symbolism to promote the discussion of the following: when
does education become indoctrination?
With the presidential election of George Bush in 2005, Evangelicals felt empowered. He was a
conservative and many of his political ideals aligned with the evangelicals . Becky Fisher utilizes the
camp activities comminicate conservative political ideology to the children. In Jesus Camp , Becky
Fisher denies the claim that her camp is politically inclined. Yet, her camp activities assert a different
side of the argument. For example, the camp s leaders told the children that abortion is wrong. The
camp s leaders spoke of Roe v. Wade and how it legalized abortion within the first trimester in the
pregnancy. The leaders show what fetuses look like at different stages in the pregnancy. They tell the
children that one third of their friends are

The Major Developments of Early Human and Social Evolution
Describe the major developments of early human and social evolution. Throughout, discuss tool
manufacturing, language development, agriculture, social behavior, and population growth. The first
tools developed during the Paleolithic Era were made from chipped stones, wood and bone, and nets
from plant fibers and animal sinew (Holt, Rinehart, Wilson, n.d.: 2). The Neolithic Era brought forth
greater specialization. People began to make chisels, drills, and saws to address specific needs and
also polished stones to create sharper and more defined points (Holt, Rinehart, Wilson, n.d.: 2).
Language scholars trace the development of the first forms of systematized language to this era: The
crucial evolutionary development that led to the burst in creativity in the Neolithic was the emergence
of human language as a method for integrating across cognitive modules (MacWhinney 2005: 383).
During this era, the use of stones began to have a utilitarian purpose in a manner that showed more
sophisticated thinking. The most significant development during the Neolithic Era was the
development of agriculture. This occurred approximately 10,000 years ago in human history. Humans
began to domesticate animals and engage in selective breeding. With the end of the Ice Age, new
plants became available and were cultivated to provide a more stable food source than hunting and
gathering. Humans began to domesticate plants as well. People had long observed wild plants as they
gathered

Chapter 12 Of The Disappearing Spoon By Sam Kean
Reviewing Elements of Chapter 12 of the Disappearing Spoon Sam Kean, the author of the New York
Times Bestseller the Disappearing Spoon, opens the 12th chapter of his narrative by stating that The
periodic table embodies our frustrations and failures in every human field: economics, psychology, the
arts, and... politics (Kean, 203). Kean, being an english and physics major, observes that the periodic
table, our most treasured accomplishment as a race as he puts it, is much more than just a jumble of
random letters pertaining to a specific scientific field but, instead, a focal point of human interaction
throughout history. Kean s narrative, as a whole, focuses on the many facets of the periodic table
including its scientific and nonscientific attributes, providing the reader with a new perspective to this
vast array of elements; a social perspective. Chapter 12 of Kean s bestseller focuses on how politics
had a major influence on the development of the periodic table. The majority of the chapter takes
place during the mid 1900s and therefore, as one might ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although one might assume that the periodic table is exclusively science related and has no
connection with societal aspects, Kean proves with stories such as Hevesy s that politics in addition to
many other fields shaped the table s path. Politics helped determine the outcome of the periodic table,
or so Kean claims. Kean supports this conjecture with the fact that many of the scientific geniuses
who developed the table lived in Eastern Europe and during the time of World War II. Because of this,
the Nazi regime controlled most of the scientific research done at the time and, as we now know,
prevented the work of Jews from gaining glory. Many of these scientists who contributed to the
development of the periodic table were Jewish and so, as one might deduce, the scientific discoveries
made during this time were tainted by politics, influencing the outcome of the periodic

Achilles Villain
There is a fine line between a villain and hero. Not only are deeds taken into consideration, but actions
as well. Much like real life, it is never easy knowing who plays what role until the final moments of
their life. But is it fair to just take the bad moments and use them against a person? Does not the
means justify the end? Achilles had a struggle within himself as well as externally with Agamemnon.
Achilles had to decide whether he should be taken advantage of to help his city or go against his
principles to save his pride. During Achilles time, the Greeks considered him a hero due to his birth as
a demigod. He was the son of the nymph Thetis and the mortal Peleus. When Achilles was nine years
old, Calchas told him about a prophecy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His departure was not a sign of cowardice. He was trying to prove a point to Agamemnon that his
taking Briseis, Achilles war prize, was dishonorable and insulting. The battle that they had fought in
which he had taken her captive had already proven his prowess as a warrior, and because he wanted it
known that he was the greatest of the Achaean warriors and they could not triumph without him. Troy
could not fall without the help of Achilles, as prophesied by Calchas.Achilles had to make a tough
decision prior to just letting them walk into their own deaths. Agamemnon demanded that Achilles
bride and war prize Briseis be given to him. Achilles believed that the demand was unjust and
resembled that of Paris kidnapping Helen. He was in the same position as Menelaos. The argument
between himself and Agamemnon was as righteous as war to Achilles. Even though Agamemnon
offered to return Briseis and other numerous gifts, Achilles stays angry. This does indicate one of
Achilles flaw: excessive pride. Agamemnon may have offered gifts, but none amount to the public
insult that Achilles had suffered. Achilles would rather have his pride restored then have anything in
the world. Agamemnon also has a history of given and taken back gifts resulting in empty

Quantitative Research Papers
The methods of this research article is strong because of the data analysis used. However, this was a
short section in the paper. It only included three paragraphs, which is not nearly enough to cover all of
the content of an eight page paper. Although it was short, this article was convincing of the data
provided (Batista et al., 2017). Protection of participants rights. In order to protect the rights of the
participants, the study did a decent job in attaining consent. The participants were to sign the free and
informed consent term (Batista et al., 2017). This means that the participants were aware of the study

women were connected would make the study more reliable. Data collection. Data was retrieved
through a partially structured interview. These interviews were conducted at their home with an
interview script (Batista et al., 2017). This data collection was appropriate, due to the need to
interview each person individually. The researcher did not show the specific questions they had asked.
The data indicated that the interviews were recorded and transcribed in full, but did not specify what
kind of transcription. This should have been either recorded by voice or through a written paper
transcription. Procedures. The data was analyzed through a content analysis technique using the
Bardin method (Batista et al., 2017). This was not described by the researcher in detail. The Bardin
method could have been explained through its procedures. There were two categories of analysis were
defined: Category one: Experiencing the diagnosis of breast cancer: knowledge and feminine
resilience and category two: Unveiling the feelings of women in the face of mastectomy. In addition,
more information regarding how the information collected was put specifically into each category
would result in a more sufficient study. The recording process of interviews was appropriate, but
needed to be identified how what method of recording was used. The study should have

Dropping The Atomic Bomb
Ever since George Washington declared that the United States would remain neutral in any emerging
European conflicts, the country has attempted to follow this policy as long as possible. This does not
exclude when President Franklin Roosevelt invoked the Neutrality Acts that Congress had passed, in
hopes of keeping the United States from entering World War II (From Neutrality to War). However,
when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the country had no choice but to
declare war on Japan, and enter World War II. Right away, the United States joined the Allies, which
were made up of Great Britain, and the Soviet Union, which was lead by Joseph Stalin (Sullivan, 6).
Even though the Allies were in an agreement to work together ... Show more content on

This is why many historians agree that this was the beginning of the nuclear arms race between the
United States and the Soviet Union. Each side of the Iron Curtain had opposing views on the other
side, and there was no mutual reason for peace anymore after the war ended. After a number of
smaller conflicts began to accumulate, each side felt that they needed to prepare for a nuclear war, and
each side began churning out more and more destructive nuclear weapons (Race for the Superbomb).
Later, the build up of these weapons would lead to the Cold War, but at that time, the arms race
between the two rival countries was just

The signage came long after an attempt by President Truman to develop a national insurance fund that could be utilized by all Americans. During the signing of the bill, President Johnson explained that with the Medicare program an individual can insure themselves against illness that may present during their senior years. Additionally, he commented that there were more than 18 million low income Americans who are greater than 65 years of age and cannot afford to treat their illnesses. The Medicare program is overseen by The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and has evolved over time. Medicare now covers individuals under the age of 65 who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The goal of this deception is to obtain a federal healthcare payment that would not otherwise exist. The provider, practice, or institution may falsely claim to have provided a service or used supplies for a patient when in reality neither the service nor the supplies were used. A secondary way to commit Medicare fraud involves referrals. If one solicits, pays, or accepts money to encourage referrals because the services are reimbursed by Federal healthcare programs, they are participating in Medicare fraud. This type of fraud is addressed in the Anti Kickback Statute. Lastly, Medicare fraud occurs when the complexity of services are overstated and billed at a higher than necessary rate. This action violates the False Claims Act which protects the government from being excessively charged for goods and services. Medicare fraud is illegal and remedies are sought at both a civil and criminal level. If a provider, practice, or institution is found guilty of Medicare fraud, the consequences may include a loss of license, monetary penalties, and the inability to participate in Federal healthcare programs. The Office of Inspector General (OIG), which is a part of the U.S. Department of Health Human Services, has the ability to exclude individuals who participate in Medicare fraud. • 5. Annie Dillard s An Exploration Into The Way Human Beings At some point in each of our lives we will take a step back and look at the way we are living our lives and wonder if we are living them correctly. This is exactly what annie dilliard does in this essay. Annie Dillard s essay is just an exploration into the way human beings might live. When she sees a weasel, she looks into the life of that weasel. Studying how it lives its life. Then she compares it to humans. Human beings are creatures of caution and fear. We never fully live our lives because we are too caught up with avoiding risks. We think, debate, and calculate each and every move while weasels just simply act. A weasel is a creature of action and instinct. A weasel lives its life the way it was created to, not questioning his motives, simply striking when the time is right. I agree with Dillard s idea that we might learn something of mindlessness, something of the purity of living in the physical senses and the dignity of living without bias or motive (Dillard 210). The thing that keeps human beings from living the purest life possible, like the weasel is our minds. To live freely we need to live our lives with less hesitation and fear. Dillard says we should forget our ability of thought and choice all together. But the way we live should not be simply thrown away for a chance to live completely free of bias or motive (Dillard 210). We have our morals, conscience, emotions, and values. We have the ability to think and feel at the same time. We can chose how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Fair Value Accounting Moving towards Fair Value Accounting In the past, historical cost measures were mainly used for reporting as they are reliable. However, historical cost is only relevant upon acquiring the asset and becomes irrelevant as time passes. On the other hand, fair value based reporting, which accounts for changes in fair values, can produce balance sheet figures that provide a better reflection of the company s value. This is also why accounting bodies are moving towards fair value accounting (FVA). One of the evident standards is the FASB Standard (SFAS) 157, Fair Value Measurements , to establish clear, consistent guidelines for fair values measurements and disclosures. SFAS No. 133, Accounting for Derivative Instruments and IAS 39 also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is found that managers are more likely to manage earnings because it is hard to verify whether the estimated fair value figures are well intentioned or manipulated. Having to rely on their estimates introduces informational asymmetry. As in the case of Level 3 inputs, since managers have private information regarding appropriate values to select for model inputs as well as the underlying economic value of an asset (or liability), the informational asymmetry will create two problems adverse selection and moral hazard. Black et al. found that fair value accounting mitigates incentives for firms to time asset sales to manage earnings. If fair value measures capture unrealized gains and losses that reflect the future earnings, firms will have little incentive to increase current income at the expense of future earnings. However, there are still chances for managers to value assets upwards to increase income so as to increase their performance based compensation, abide by the debt covenant restrictions and reduce political cost as explained by the positive accounting theory. They could simply take a big bath during rainy days and use the timing of impairments or upward revaluation reversals to boost future earnings for even better compensation. Hence, accounting standard setters and securities regulators need to determine how much latitude to give managers when they estimate fair values and to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Sinus Node The Sinus node is a small bundle of specialised cells located in the right atrium of the which generates an impulse in the heart. The electrical activity spreads through the walls of the atria and causes them to contract. This forces blood into the ventricles, which sets the rate and rhythm of the heartbeat. A pacemaker is needed to maintain an adequate heart rate, either because the heart s natural pacemaker sinus node is not fast enough or there is a block in the heart s conduction system. As knowledge of the human body expanded a range of electrotherapeutic experimentations were conducted by pioneering scientists and physicians. Methods utilized both direct current and static electricity. It became clear that the heart was an organ especially sensitive to electricity as well and as early as 1788, attempts were made to treat irregular heartbeats with an electric shock. By 1932, a primitive form of today s pacemaker was invented as a hand cranked device by Albert Hyman (Engineering and Technology History Wiki, 2015). Hyman s pacemaker was powered by a hand wound spring driven generator that provided six minutes of pace making without rewinding (Haddad, Houben and Serdijin, 2006). Today s pacemaker weighs about 28 grams and is approximately the size of an Australian 50 cent piece (Medtronic n.d.). The objective of electrical stimulation is to replace natural biological impulses by external artificial electrical impulses. Electrostimulation is needed when the heart ... NM highlighted how these results are influenced by cultural factors, since job opportunities in the rural sector are not perceived as an attractive and successful field to the youth. On the other hand, young people associate the business sector with power, wealth, and respect. Lack of skills, education, jobs, and financial support are the main concerns the Tanzanian youth has. For the young Tanzanian women, early pregnancy and challenges associated with it is what they fear the most. Access to quality education is one of the key priorities for the youth, as 1 million Tanzanians graduate annually, but only 20% are able to actually get a job. Tanzanian youth does not have access to information on youth policies put in place by the government, which is problematic. Only 4% are aware of youth policies, while 96% are. CM highlights the five conclusions drawn from the report: The fact that around 39% of the youth are concerned with the political situation in Zanzibar raises questions on the direction this region is taking. The slogan of the political campaign of the current president is just work , yet the youth is struggling to find jobs and this trend will continue in the following years. This clearly shows the extent to which the current government is unaware of how serious the issue of youth unemployment is. Due to the cultural tradition of always respecting the ... • 11. The Hidden Treasure Of History There was a time where I thought my small hometown of Portage, Pa was nothing more than a few streets that consisted of churches, small town businesses, and homes that housed only about 2,500 people. After many hours of research I have come to find that this small town is actually a hidden treasure of history that is far too fascinating to express. Although the town of Portage, Pa is only 125 years old, it is full of rich history that has shaped the Portage we all know today. Portage would not be the town it is today without the economic successes it had with the coal industry and more importantly the rule it played in the Allegheny Portage railroad. The geography of our town couldn t have been more perfect to house the railroad with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After a few adjustments to plans the building of the railroad began. The railroad was be completed by 1834 and it would be named the Allegheny Portage Railroad; the word portage is from the French word porter meaning to carry and Noah Webster defines Portage as carrying something overland from one body of water to another (Portage Centennial Book Committee, 1990, p.3 4). The Allegheny Portage railroad would later be added onto the great Pennsylvania railroad that would serve throughout the whole state. So, first came the railroad and then because of the railroad, the growth of this new town began. Because of the railroad being built on this land that was all dense woodland and the steam engines in this area ran only on wood, the lumbering industry began. Sawmills were build all around the land that is now today Portage. Then with the new founding of coal, coal mines were also being built. This had a great economic impact on this land and in the 1860 s and 1870 s settlers began to flood into this area; most of these settlers were English and German speaking people (Portage Centennial Book Committee, 1990, p.7 8). During this time there was a town called old Portage and a town next to it called New Portage. In 1878 the old Portage would be changed to Portage Township and on October 7, 1890 new Portage ... I have seen some courtrooms through videos of trials or pictures from high profile cases such as the shooter in Colorado who opened fire in a movie theater during Batman in 2012 and I have been to a small courthouse in Calvert County Maryland. The difference between these two courtrooms was the size and number of people present. At the Boone County Courthouse the room was small and had a large amount of people ready to see the Judge. Some of the people present included: the Bailiff, who did his job by making sure everyone had a seat, was situated and quiet during the court ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This sentencing was in response to the multiple times this gentleman was charged with the same crime. The difference between the Bonne County court and the Calvert County court is the size and how quickly cases where moved through the system. In the Calvert County courtroom I sat and watched the cases where processed slow and meticulous even the requests for a change of date moved slowly. While in attendance in Calvert County I heard the judge ask how defendants mothers or families where and even postpone court dates or sentencing so farmers could bring crops in or so people could attend family functions. Even the sentencing was odd back home people could get sentenced to just weekends or even just nights in jail I heard one sentence where someone had to spend every weekend in jail for the next year, which I thought was strange but the judge said after the sentence that it was to keep the farms working. In Boone County the courtroom seemed more formal and less personal than a small town. The judge only cared for the rule of law and not about family matters or the occupation of the defendant and this is the way a judge should act in my opinion. The personal approach that judges take in Calvert County compared to Boone County is more influential than an impersonal approach because people do not want to be seen as just a number. • 14. An Evaluation Of The Alcoholic Beverage And Conversation... An independent variable, which is what is varied during the experiment, is what will affect the dependent variable. A change in the independent variable directly causes a change in the dependent variable, and you can only have one independent variable. The independent variable is the behavior of one participant that triggers the behavior of another participant. In the first study, the alcoholic beverage and conversation topic selected by Participant #1 is the independent variable. In the second study, the behavior of the seller at the store is the independent variable, as is the verbal and nonverbal communication of some participants in the third study. A dependent variable is what you measure in the experiment and what is affected during the experiment. The dependent variable responds to the independent variable. It is called dependent because it depends on the independent variable. In a scientific experiment, you cannot have a dependent variable without an independent variable. In the first study, the response of the second person to order the drink and take part in the ongoing conversation is the dependent variable. In the second study, the dependent variable is the mannerisms with which the customer responds to the seller. Britain at present is considered to be a Liberal Democratic state and one main component is the capacity of the government to conduct an election to allow the people to voice their needs in the national level. Election is the heart or the core of a democratic state , removing this would deprive the people of their right. Previous writers from the Conservatives said that faith of the members to their party leader would result in a disciplined party. Naturally, members of a certain party must agree on recognizing their party leader as a competent being that would be able to guide, unify and bring order to their party, after all, he or she is a potential Prime Minister in any case their party get the majority of seats in the Parliament. Also, the party leader is the primary person to represent the party and that he or she must be able to act in accordance with party s image to capture most of the voter s sympathy. As Graham Wallas, a political scientist and author of Human Nature in Politics, pointed out the significance of political image among the voter s preferences. This is due to the fact that the voters will give support to parties where they can benefit the most and that reflect on their social status, ethnicity and religion. Just in the case of two dominant party, the Labour Party will most likely get support from the less affluent citizens, those from Scotland and the North, the working class and those from the public sector. I feel that even though the process is not perfect it is a great way to allow the average citizen more power in policy making. The History Democracy Derailed begins with addressing the evolution of the initiative process. During the first twenty years in Plymouth Colonies, all adult men met to consider legislation. In 1715, Massachusetts had to address anything that was supported by ten citizens. By 1788, Massachusetts began conducting referendums, and by the 1850 s, referendums had become an acceptable practice. By the end of the 1800 s, direct legislation in states had become ... Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ultrasound Ever since the beginning of medicine, diagnostic procedures were mainly invasive, meaning that the patient was cut open, resulting in an excruciating amount of pain for the diagnosis of some simple conditions, such as pneumothorax and appendicitis. This practice was usual for centuries up until the early 20th century where the use of waves, electromagnetic or not, in medicine began. One type of the waves used was the ultrasound wave. Few argue the fact that mothers have been the individuals to love and nurture children. From the beginning recorded history, a mother s first duty was to her husband and then to children, based on traditional and religious role definitions. But as the traditional families continued to change and evolve, fathers have been forced to accept the multiple roles required to raise the children alone. Dads have become moms in a sense. As modern fathers have become adequate mothers in the single parent family unit, the notion that a mother is the only nurturing individual in the family is simply not true now. The qualities of love, patience, and compassion are not gender bound ( Single Dads 2001). Society has long been transforming men from the cavemen lumbering to skilled hunter gatherers to loving husbands and to caring parents. As single mothers have had to take on traditional paternal responsibilities as financial providers and disciplinarians, so to have fathers accepted the traditional maternal roles in the home, and as caregiver. But [Scotty] Wilson is convinced that de Monge adhered to the design philosophy espoused by Antoine de Saint Exupéry, the beloved French author and World War II P 38 pilot: Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away. An example of this philosophy was the removal of a conventional canopy (the glass enclosure around the pilot). Most fighter aircraft at the time were built with the engine in the nose just behind the propeller. To allow the pilot to see past the engine, these fighters were built with raised canopies that sat on top of the fuselage. But having these extra bulges increases drag. Bugatti got around this by putting the pilot in the nose of the aircraft, and moving the engines. The engines were put behind the pilot and a system of drive shafts powered the propellers. After the designs were mostly finalized, construction began. The airplane was built in Paris in the second floor of a furniture shop. In this event as well, both parties attempt to place the blame on the other which is not unusual due the nature of the sources. However, this highlights the large amount of bias evident in all of the accounts. For the colonial perspective, there are two statements, each from a member of a colonial militia that fought during the Battles of Lexington and Concord. Both of these sources place the blame on the British soldiers and claim that the British fired first, killing several colonists. One account, from the Battle of North Bridge, claims that the colonists were ordered to hold their fire and that they didn t fire until the British opened fire upon them. The other account, from soldier who fought during the skirmish at the Lexington Green, states that the colonists did not even get a single shot off, at least not before the soldier whose account this is was wounded. This source also claims that the British commanding officers were yelling at and insulting the colonists as their ranks closed on the milita. Both these sources are very similar to the colonial perspectives of the Boston Massacre because they all place the blame on the British soldiers and attempt to make themselves appear as the victims. The colonial perspectives sharply contrast the four British perspectives that were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Dr. Ann Freud Theory On Ego Psychology Essay Theories Selected Giving a clear definition of psychotherapy and counselling is arduous, as there s a little insufficient agreement on the definition and on whether there s any variation between the two terms. Psychotherapy and counselling are interplay between a therapists /counsellor and clients/patients. The main role of the counsellor is to aid the client in solving problems that may have aspects that are mainly associated to disorder of thinking, emotional suffering or the problems of the act (Corey, 2009, p. 111). Most importantly, the therapist/ counselor s way to aiding ought to be legally and ethically approved. Ann Freud theory on ego psychology summates to theoretical models of psychoanalysis. In her theory she applies psychoanalysis to the treatment of the children and prolonged the concept of ego defence mechanism. She highlighted the significance of observation of children with their parents or their foster parents. She argues that the growth and development of ego and super ego took place as one watched (Olson, 2002, p. 114). Because of this, strives are inevitable for all the children during the period of growth and development. In addition she supports Feud s argument that the child needs analysis when he or she is in an educational bearing and position .As a result of this, the child becomes appreciative of the psychoanalytic knowledge, thus the child therapy is needed only in utmost cases of behaviour. • 40. David Foster Wallace Consider The Lobster For many Americans the food we eat is just something to be consumed for our needs and pleasures, however in Consider The Lobster by David Foster Wallace the reader is challenged to think on what his food was before it was food. In Consider The Lobster Wallace explores the Maine Lobster Festival a correspondent of Gourmet Magazine, during his time at the MLF he sees a new side to lobster and learns about the lobster as a sentient creature. After his exploration he comes to a moral dilemma of cooking and eating lobster, he realizes that our society does not think of our food as anything more than something to eat. Wallace uses his knowledge, research and a large amount emotion to persuade the reader to think about the food they eat; using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I contemplate this latter possibility: It could be that their lack of endorphin/enkephalin hardware means that lobsters raw subjective experience of pain is so radically different from mammals that it may not even deserve the term pain. (63). In this example Wallace is using reasoning and research to uncover pain as a lobster perceives it. His use of research as well as controversial views really invigorates the reader and convinces him to think more deeply about his views of pain and the pain experience. Ultimately, the only certain virtues of the home lobotomy and slow heating methods are comparative, because there are even worse/crueler ways people prepare lobster. (63). Wallace also argues the point that our pursuit of cooking lobster humanely is rather pointless when most of the world outside of America cruelly breaks the lobsters apart while they are alive and cook them. The technique of comparing the issue throughout the world greatly changes the tone of the essay and makes the logic of boiling lobster seem much more sound. After all, isn t being extra aware and attentive and thoughtful about one s food and its overall context part of what distinguishes a real gourmet. (64). Here Wallace changes his focus from the lobster to the gourmets who speak so highly of this food. He is trying reason as to why these people who pride themselves on being experts are being so ignorant to an issue which is relevant to them. Changing the focus also puts the reader in a different mindset where he is considering himself as the gourmet and trying to reason as to why ignoring this issue would be ... • 41. The Lincoln Electric Company Case Study Essay There are plenty of reasons why Lincoln Electric Company (LEC) is successful, and a big one that people usually credit the success to is the way it s managed. While reading the Lincoln Electric Company Harvard Case Study by Arthur Sharplin, we learned a lot about the echo of the founder s philosophies still very present in the company, we looked at the highly rewarding merit pay plan, and we learned about LEC s authoritarian management style. There are plenty more reasons why LEC has been so successful over the years but these three are mostly responsible for the productivity, efficiency, morale, and overall satisfaction of the factory level employees and all the way up to the President s office. A lot of people thought that once Mr. James Lincoln (better known as Jimmy Sr. ) died in 1965 that the company would stop succeeding. People thought profits would drop, philosophies would be out of use, and the company would stop following Lincoln s system that had led them so far. Opposite to that happened. Employee turnover rate became extremely low because of care to the employees and a well thought up management team. Employee productivity stayed at the standard that was established because Lincoln s bonuses stayed with the company even when he had left it The company seemed stronger than ever . In addition to these standards, Lincoln also thought that the company should finance new locations through earnings made at LEC, not through loans or borrowing. This philosophy could ... • 46. The Major Developments of Early Human and Social Evolution Describe the major developments of early human and social evolution. Throughout, discuss tool manufacturing, language development, agriculture, social behavior, and population growth. The first tools developed during the Paleolithic Era were made from chipped stones, wood and bone, and nets from plant fibers and animal sinew (Holt, Rinehart, Wilson, n.d.: 2). The Neolithic Era brought forth greater specialization. People began to make chisels, drills, and saws to address specific needs and also polished stones to create sharper and more defined points (Holt, Rinehart, Wilson, n.d.: 2). Language scholars trace the development of the first forms of systematized language to this era: The crucial evolutionary development that led to the burst in creativity in the Neolithic was the emergence of human language as a method for integrating across cognitive modules (MacWhinney 2005: 383). During this era, the use of stones began to have a utilitarian purpose in a manner that showed more sophisticated thinking. The most significant development during the Neolithic Era was the development of agriculture. This occurred approximately 10,000 years ago in human history. Humans began to domesticate animals and engage in selective breeding. With the end of the Ice Age, new plants became available and were cultivated to provide a more stable food source than hunting and gathering. Humans began to domesticate plants as well. • 47. Chapter 12 Of The Disappearing Spoon By Sam Kean Reviewing Elements of Chapter 12 of the Disappearing Spoon Sam Kean, the author of the New York Times Bestseller the Disappearing Spoon, opens the 12th chapter of his narrative by stating that The periodic table embodies our frustrations and failures in every human field: economics, psychology, the arts, and... politics (Kean, 203). Kean, being an english and physics major, observes that the periodic table, our most treasured accomplishment as a race as he puts it, is much more than just a jumble of random letters pertaining to a specific scientific field but, instead, a focal point of human interaction throughout history. Kean s narrative, as a whole, focuses on the many facets of the periodic table including its scientific and nonscientific attributes, providing the reader with a new perspective to this vast array of elements; a social perspective. Chapter 12 of Kean s bestseller focuses on how politics had a major influence on the development of the periodic table. Although one might assume that the periodic table is exclusively science related and has no connection with societal aspects, Kean proves with stories such as Hevesy s that politics in addition to many other fields shaped the table s path. Politics helped determine the outcome of the periodic table, or so Kean claims. Kean supports this conjecture with the fact that many of the scientific geniuses who developed the table lived in Eastern Europe and during the time of World War II. Because of this, the Nazi regime controlled most of the scientific research done at the time and, as we now know, prevented the work of Jews from gaining glory. Many of these scientists who contributed to the development of the periodic table were Jewish and so, as one might deduce, the scientific discoveries made during this time were tainted by politics, influencing the outcome of the periodic ... Much like real life, it is never easy knowing who plays what role until the final moments of their life. But is it fair to just take the bad moments and use them against a person? Does not the means justify the end? Achilles had a struggle within himself as well as externally with Agamemnon. Achilles had to decide whether he should be taken advantage of to help his city or go against his principles to save his pride. He was trying to prove a point to Agamemnon that his taking Briseis, Achilles war prize, was dishonorable and insulting. The battle that they had fought in which he had taken her captive had already proven his prowess as a warrior, and because he wanted it known that he was the greatest of the Achaean warriors and they could not triumph without him. Troy could not fall without the help of Achilles, as prophesied by Calchas.Achilles had to make a tough decision prior to just letting them walk into their own deaths. Agamemnon demanded that Achilles bride and war prize Briseis be given to him. Achilles believed that the demand was unjust and resembled that of Paris kidnapping Helen. He was in the same position as Menelaos. The argument between himself and Agamemnon was as righteous as war to Achilles. Even though Agamemnon offered to return Briseis and other numerous gifts, Achilles stays angry. This does indicate one of Achilles flaw: excessive pride.
