Texas Political Campaign Research Paper

Texas Political Campaigns When running for any election in the U.S, it is a common belief that you
require spending a sizeable amount of money. Texas State is no different. A Texas Tribune analysis
established that there is no amount of campaign fund can guarantee an individual, victory (Jones 2). If
you are serious about campaigning for a federal office, you may need to part with ten to fifteen dollars
per vote. U.S rep in his re election bid spent a whopping thirty dollars per vote and fortunately for
him, he won. However, paying a lot of cash as an applicant does not really secure a dominant part
vote. 1 Donald Trump spent half of what Hillary Clinton spent, and he won the presidential ... Show

A good example is the Marijuana legalization society (Jones 4). Since marijuana is illegal in Texas, I
would also not condone it. Another particular group of interest that might not be keen to support is the
same gender society and the betting individuals. While they may be legal, there is usually a negative
stereotype of these interest groups. Furthermore, since I would join the Republicans, most Democrats
would most likely be against me. My campaign slogan would be Remember, you matter. Reason
being, the adage people care how much you care about them is frankly right. My campaign sign would

To What Extent Has Modern Liberalism Departed from...
There are huge differences between classical and modern liberalism and as a result classical liberals
believe that modern liberals have not stayed true to initial ideas posed by the likes of John Locke
given that modern liberals have embraced collectivism while classical liberals favoured pure
individualism. But they are fundamentally both forms of liberalism so are united in their belief of
freedom and rights of the individual but they have slightly different views on the type of freedom they
support.
Classical liberalism has a belief in utilitarianism first posed by Jeremy Bentham, this is where
individuals make tiny calculations about whether their actions will maximise pleasure or minimise
pain . This is an egotistical form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
T.H. Green argued that freedom is the ability of the individual to develop individuality and this is a
positive thing. This is thus done through self fufillment and pushing one s own knowledge. Positive
freedom places emphasis on the individual flourishing rather than survival of the fittest so therefore
the state should offer equal opportunities to all. This has seen modern liberals support the welfare state
whereas classical liberals focused on standing on your own feet. But, this is not totally different to
core liberal beliefs. The state only intervenes to ensure equality such as education and health. Modern
liberals defend the welfare state on the basis of equality of opportunity. The welfare state has
attempted to address issues such as idleness and want and squalor , named by the Beveridge Report by
William Beveridge. Overall, Modern liberals believe in providing an equal playing field to help the
individual flourish in society rather than the individual just battling for themselves.
This belief in some state intervention and positive freedom has lead liberals of modern times to a
belief in welfare and economic management. Modern liberals support economic management,
proposed first by John Maynard Keynes, who argued that governments could manage their economies
in order to thrive. They believe in a mixed economy where you sometimes must tax and spend and yet
other times you

The Health Plan For Medicare And Medicaid Services
Neither the American Hospital Association (AHA) nor the Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services
(CMS) had information related to the average cost to comply with one Recovery Audit Contractor
(RAC) claim denial; however, the AHA s RACTrac quarterly survey offers valuable insight as to the
RAC costs hospitals are accumulating. Of the 1,165 hospitals that responded to RACTrac s Q1 2014
Survey, managing the RAC process costs nearly 70 percent of all hospitals included in this survey in
excess of $10,000, almost 50 percent spent more than $25,000 and a little over 10 percent spent
amounts exceeding $100,000. Medicare health plans being penalized On October 12, 2014, The New
York Times reports that many of Medicare s health plans are being penalized for the improper
rejection of claims, as well as unjustified limits on prescription drug coverage. Rejections lead to
unprecedented growth in number of claim appeals A Federal Register notice, released in January 2014,
by the Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals states that there has been an unprecedented growth in
the number of claim appeals. These excessive appeals exceed the adjudication resources available to
address them. The Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS) supports the efforts of the Office of
Medicare Hearings and Appeals in maintaining efficiency, steps have been taken to support it. CMS
has made efforts to assist with efficiency through its interim final rule 1455 and its final rule 1599.

Physician Query Process
Physician queries need to be initiated in writing using a standard form that represents the type of

The Unexamined Life Is A Life Not Worth Living
What is happiness, and how can one achieve true happiness? This is the ultimate question of life and
what every person is seeking an answer to. Many feel that they have found their answer in belonging
to the faith of their choice, but what is it that their faith teaches them that brings them happiness? The
Philosophers Socrates, Plato and Aristotle all have a similar view on what happiness is and how to
achieve it. Aristotle s view is based on Plato s and Plato s is based on Socrates teachings; this is why
they are similar but they are all important and different with each philosopher s personal views and
beliefs.
Socrates was a great man who was assassinated for his beliefs on the purpose of life and how to live
happily. He presented the excellence of function to determine how a person will truly be happiest. The
true person is not what he is on the out side but what his psyche or soul is and when that is functioning
well the person is happiest. Psyche is the human capacity for reflective thinking and also the
consciousness of the soul. The unexamined life is a life not worth living. This is a quote from Socrates
that supports his views on psyche. It states that when a person does not examine his life to find his true
self, or excellence of function, that they are ignoring their true self and that a false life is not worth the
time to live it. So an examined life will find its true self or what its function is and want to perform its
function well.

Introduction
Web applications are nowadays serving as a company s public face to the internet. This has created the
need to identify threats and attacks directed to data servers and web applications. Hackers exploit
vulnerabilities in input validation and authentication affecting the web application in order to gain
illegal access and disclose sensitive data or manipulate it to their benefits.
Common threats to data systems
Data systems such as the web application and data servers are faced by a number of threats, some of
these threats are discussed below:
Spoofing: this is a situation where computer assume the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Denial of Service Attack: The server denial of service attack is the most risky, causing the server to
crash or degrade ungracefully due to the malicious SOAP calls.
Human error: Errors caused by people who get into contact with the web application or data servers
either as operators or users include; accidental deletion of data, destruction of software programs,
configuration or hardware error. Vulnerabilities left by the software developers in software, is another
major error. This can include authentication which can be bypassed, failure to validate input and
output data, incorrect implementation of encryption, escalation of privileges, and failure to handle
errors correctly can be used to attack web application leading to exposure of sensitive data such as
customer s financial data. This can be used to cause fraud to the customer s bank or credit card.
Malfunction: software malfunction is mostly caused by poor development practices where security has
not been built in the software development life cycle but rather incorporated at a latter phase when the
software is already fully developed. By doing this, most of the vulnerabilities won t be handled which
latter leads to either crash or malfunctioning of the software, whereby the attacker has an easy time
breaking into the system and causing damage or customer s data disclosure.
The greatest area of vulnerability and potential for damage or data loss of web applications and

Persuasive Essay On The Problem Of Global Warming
The world is addicted to fossil fuels, but it is quickly using up its resources and destroying the
environment. Based on current estimates, oil and natural gas will peak by 2040. In addition, over the
past 50 years, the average global temperature has increased at the fastest rate in recorded history
(MacMillan Para 1). The United States needs to figure out a way to fulfill their massive demand for
power while ensuring the safety of the planet. There are many possible ways to attack the problem at
hand. The first proposal is to mandate the installment of solar rooftop units throughout the country.
Another proposal is to install solar parks throughout the country. A final proposal is to simply
incentivize the use and development of solar energy while phasing out fossil fuels. By implementing
one of these three proposals, the United States government could help solve a problem that looms over
the entire population.
The major problem solar energy will look to fix is global warming. Global warming is the gradual
increase of the average global temperature. This rise in heat is caused by the greenhouse effect, which
is the warming that happens when certain gases in Earth s atmosphere trap heat. These gases let in
light but keep heat from escaping, like the glass walls of a greenhouse (What is Global Warming Para
4). This process is natural and keeps Earth at an inhabitable temperature. Recently, however, the
burning of fossil fuels has enhanced this effect, which is

Visual Art Plan By Otto Dix And James Gleeson
Visual art Plan
Artists all around the world have used metaphor in their pieces of work to convey meaning. A figure
of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally
applicable. Most if not all pieces of art you can see in a museum or out on the street have remanets of
metaphor beneath them. Artists use metaphor in their work to tell a story or a time period or in this
case meaning. As the old saying goes a picture is worth a thousand words. The artist distorts the image
to the way he or she wants to see it or would want others to see it. For example, Otto Dix and James
Gleeson are artists that are known for having and using metaphor and spirituality in their pieces of
work. Otto Dix has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Otto Dix was a great artist. His paintings were very strong with spirituality and metaphor this was
because he served in the first world war. Many of his paintings were of the first wold war because Dix
volunteered and became a machine gunner which exposed him to see death daily. Through his
experiences in the war he gained a lot of knowledge and saw a lot of things. One of his pieces stood
out to me the most. That piece was the wounded soldier. In this picture I can see a muddy ground with
blood splattered everywhere. The ground and the soldier almost looks like he is decaying. The soldiers
face has an expression of confusion and elements of fear across him. Given his mouth is wide open it
looks like he is in enormous amounts of pain and looks like he is screaming. This could be the face of
a person going through their last seconds before they die or get shot. His hand is squeezing his heart
like he got shot in the area. His helmet seems to be dirty and bloody as almost like he has been here
for a long time.
The work has been put together very well according to the elements and principles of art. The lines in
the art work are very bold and revealing. The lines are clearly outlining the wounded soldier and what
is movements and actions are at the current time of him being painted. The colour of this art work is in
black and white but even though it is in black and white Dix has done a good job of telling us what

The Master Builder Essay
In The Master Builder, by Henrik Ibsen, the playwright underlines Halvard Solness flaws and shows
how they can have an impact on those around him as well as on himself. Throughout the play, Solness,
the Master Builder, becomes overcome by an uncontrollable fear of his own mortality, fear of loss and
fears that youth and fresh talents will overtake him in his work. As a result, he becomes overwhelmed
by his own driving ambition as a means of proving himself.
In the play, Solness is described in his youth as being a strong, vibrant character, full of skill and the
builder of some of the biggest towers in the area. Hilde says to him I couldn t have believed there was
a master builder in the whole world who could build such a tremendously ... Show more content on

As a young man, Solness wanted to build churches as monuments to God, as this would be a worthy
thing to do, as he states, I built those poor country churches in so honest and warm and fervent a spirit
that... He should have been pleased with me . He now feels guilty that he has not performed well
enough and has not pleased God. Neither does he feel he has pleased his wife, Aline, as their house of
which she was very proud was burnt down.
Ibsen describes, in detail, Solness very emotional reaction to the death of his twin sons after the fire,
as he confides to Hilde, The two little children they re not so easy to forget, Hilde . This shows that
Solness is a thinking, feeling person. Solness feels the loss of his children was a punishment from
God, as was the burning down of his house. He says he will no longer build churches or church
towers, but only homes for human beings... where the father and mother and a whole lot of children
could live safely and happily feeling that it s good to be alive in the world . He wants to exorcise
himself of the devil by creating homes for people to live in and making them happy.
Hilde encourages him to take pride in himself as the master builder and sees in him someone that she
can be proud of too. She wants him to live his dreams and fantasies by building castles in the air . She
again feeds on Solness flaws and fears, telling

Gender norm in media and culture
Dozens of action movies are produced every year by Hollywood. Not to mention how widely most
violent scenes such as guns and kills are accepted in most of them. Although most may view them
only as entertainments, it is undeniable that the overexposed ideas of power and dauntless from not
only the movies but our daily media had slowly changed our social norms toward gun and violent.
Over 900 mass shootings, defined as having four or more fatalities in one incident by CNN, has
happened in less than three years since 2013. When in fact, as TV news and newspapers intended to
inform titles like a student opened fire or people are shot dead in a historic black church , almost none
marked out the issue on gender or men in the titles. African Americans, psychotics, Mexicans, and
immigrants are more often to be written in contents of violence, whereas only few articles wrote about
white men, who also build up a big part of our masculinity society. In the past, violence came from
anger in specific reasons; today, violence has become a way to represent our toughness and
masculinity. Not only did our popular culture lead us to a narrower idea of distinct gender behaviors,
such as men to be brave and women to be sensitive, our media provides us even more contents toward
normalizing what should be violent and incorrect.
Our every day mass media has emerged into the most powerful

The Turing Test And The Theory Of Computer System
Can a machine think? Is a long lived question humans have had? If a machine can think then it must
have the same intelligence as a human, then right? If a machine has human intelligence, then does that
mean it has a mind of its own? It is desired by many humans to know if one day the answers to all
these questions could be yes. In hopes of figuring this out, a testing method was created called the
Turing Test. This test was created by an English mathematician named Alan Turing in the 1940s and
1950s. Alan Turing was interested in the idea of artificial intelligence, or the theory of computers
being able perform tasks like humans. In result of introducing this theory, Turing developed a testing
method called the Turing Test. This would answer the question Can computers think? The Turing Test
consist of three subjects. Two of these subjects are humans and the other is a computer system. One
human is the questioner who is required to ask the other two subjects a series of questions. By the
responses of the other two subjects, the questioner has to determine which subject is the computer, and
which one is the human. In order to receive accurate results, the test is repeated many times. If the
computer system is believed to be the human subject by the questioner, then the computer system is
confirmed to have artificial intelligence. However, questioning must be in a specific style for accurate
test results. Computer systems have an advantage over humans in certain

that the principle (Uber) enters an explicit agreement with the agent (drivers) to take part in a given
action such as giving orders for them to transport people from one point to the other. Actual implied
authority provides that Uber enters into an explicit agreement to employ agents that are the drivers
although the principle has not specifically authorized the particular action at issue, the agent can

The Columbian Exchange, Cons, And The Impacts Of The...
In 1492, Columbus and his crew disembarked three ships: The Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria.
He and his crew were kindly welcomed by the foreign men and women he thought to be the Indians of
Asia. However, about two thousand years earlier, a group of Viking explorers discovered the land and
stayed there for a few years, before returning to Greenland. Although Columbus did not discover this
foreign land, he was responsible for the changes that soon followed his voyage. These changes,
referred to as the Columbian Exchange, altered the way the natives lived, traded, hunted, and fought
amongst other tribes. It also led to undesirable effects for the tribes, as a result of the introduction of
new diseases, slave labor, and advanced weaponry. From first contact, the foreign Europeans forced
the natives into quickly and radically adapting to the new threats they faced and learning how to use
the newly introduced products the Europeans carried over to the New World. As the Europeans started
arriving to the distant continent, disease was an invisible menace to the natives. Although the Native
American population was not aware of the diseases the European men carried, the viruses decimated
villages and quickly spread to faraway lands from the minor exchange between village traders. The
European explorers brought smallpox, influenza, typhus, measles, malaria, and diphtheria into the new
land, all of which the native population had no immunity towards. This introduction

Review Of The Summer Of 2010 By Elie Saab Essay
In the summer of 2010, Elie Saab was confronted with many challenging decisions for the company,
during his meeting with company manager director Churchi Cavalcanti. The main topic of discussion
during this meeting was to grow the brand in new and existing markets while maintaining the brand s
exclusivity and position as one of the few remaining established brands in Haute couture. (Kayyal
Shuayto, 2012) The company s success in the last five years has shown a large growth in the ready to
wear (RTW) product line. As stated in the case, While revenues have been growing rapidly, 2007
showed a 27 percent growth compared to 2006 and 2008 grew by a staggering 49 per cent compared
to the previous year. Operating expenses also decreased during the same time period. (Kayyal
Shuayto, 2012) The company is on the right track and looking to expand and maintain their
momentum. On the other hand, management has been struggling with factors such as, which partners
they should go into business with and what new markets they should penetrate to create the maximal
level of growth. In this analysis, I will analyze the current position of the company both analytically
and quantitatively. I will use this knowledge to make the most logical decision for the future of this
company. Elie Saab was born in Beriut, Lebanon in 1964 and at a very young age he started
experimenting with material and drawing sketches for his sisters. At the young age of eighteen he

Treatment Of Women In The Gospels Essay
In the beginning, women s status and freedoms were severely limited. Many people may believe that
they had started off with just as many obligations as men, but that is not the case at all. Actually, it is
the complete opposite, women had nothing when it came to the early days of the Gospel. That is until
Jesus came around and changed things. Here we will discuss three very important details of women in
the Gospels. We will discuss women in ancient Israel around the time of Jesus and how they were
expected to act, then we will move on to Jesus radical treatment of women and how Jesus was
technically, in today s definition, a feminist , finally we will discuss passages where Jesus apparently
does not call for equality of the sexes. All in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jesus teaching must have seemed very radical. How Jesus treated women was dramatically different
from how they were treated among the Jewish society. He consistently treated men and women as
equals. Which in today s society is the definition of a Feminist. According to Dictionary.com, Feminist
means advocating social, political, legal, and economic rights for women equal to those of men. Jesus
violated many of the Old Testament regulations, which specified gender inequality. He refused to
follow the rules that were established by the three main religious groups of the day. Those three
religious groups consisted of the Essenes, Pharisees and Sadducees. There are many examples on the
Jesus radical treatment of women, one would include how he taught women students. Jewish tradition
at the time was to not allow women to be taught. In Luke 10:38 42, he taught Mary, sister of Martha.
Jesus also used terminology which treated women as equal to men. For example, in Luke 13:16 it
describes how Jesus cured a women from a Satanic Spirit. He called her a daughter of Abraham,
therefore implying that she had equal status with sons of Abraham. Another example of Jesus use of
terminology can be described in Luke 7:35 to 8:50 where it is described how Jesus forgave a woman s
sins. He refers to women and men as children of

Wireless Sensor Networks And Technology Constraints
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) present universally and growing rapidly due to its unique features,
such as their less weight, cheap, and wireless nature. However, due to its highly constrained
computational and energy resources this network is exposed to numerous attacks that affect its
security. So, it is important to address these security issues from the beginning of the system design.
but, due to inherent resource and computing constraints, security in sensor networks poses diverse
challenges than traditional network security so, designing security protocols for all layers in this kind
of a network becomes an compelling need. In this paper, we studied several existing WSN security
protocols and data link layer security algorithms, which ensures a safe communication link between
neighboring nodes by supervising the medium access and handling the errors. The purpose of this
paper is Not Only Studying and explaining the strength and limitations of the existing energy efficient
security protocols of the data link layer but also and determine the crucial security requirements which
should be taken into consideration for design of future of data link security protocols.

Creating an EcOS Database Essay
How to create an EcOS database?
In EcOS, data and metadata are stored in time series database. An EcOS database has some key
characteristics:
An EcOS database acts as a container for data, metadata, and objects.
The database structure is governed by its attributes.
Since it is a time series database, each series stored is tied to a time dimension.
Each time series has a default scale.
This video shows how to create an EcOS database.
Step 1. Planning. Before constructing a database in EcOS determine the processes of database
creation, updating and maintenance. (You should determine the processes of database creation,

The Banning Of Banning Catcher In The Rye
There are numerous banned books which are removed from shelves due to their controversial content
not only just in America but also around the world. The novel, The Catcher in the Rye, written by J.D.
Salinger is one of the most well known censored publications throughout American schools. The
novel, set in the 1950s, is narrated by a sixteen year old boy named Holden Caulfield. The story
begins in a mental hospital where Holden is undergoing treatment. From there, he tells his account of
his expulsion from school and his subsequent lonesome journey throughout New York, all of which
happened leading up to his voluntary admission into the sanitorium. Most of the novel s adversaries
argue that the book should be banned due to its vulgar content including the constant use of profanity,
the apparent thoughts of violence, and the descriptions of sexual activity. On the contrary, I believe
that this novel should not be banned because it brings attention to mental illness. The most valid
argument supporting the banning of The Catcher in the Rye is the abundant usage of profanity. The
novel is composed of a variety of negative language which helps define Holden s character. Salinger
uses multiple words with negative connotations such as: lousy , bastard , sonuvabitch , and phony . It
is no surprise that three of the top five words in The Catcher in the Rye goddam , hell and damn are
curse words... (Taylor). So, in a perfect world nobody should approve of this

But Campbell (2012) argues that the modernisation of the NHS could have a diverse effect and
provide worse care especially for the more serious conditions such as cancer as inequalities will be
greater and poorer patients in lower socio economic areas will be overlooked. The state of the public
finances and tightening of budgets means that the past system was becoming increasingly
unaffordable the new system will be responsive to the needs of patients and remove the layers of
bureaucracy which consumed money that could be better spent on services. The British Medical
Association (2010) stresses that it is not just finance that drives medical decisions as consideration
must be given to the clinical need of the local heath community.
The key legislative changes in the bill are; clinically led commissioning, provider regulation to
support innovative services, a greater voice for patients, a new focus for public heath, greater
accountability locally and nationally and streamlining of arms lengths bodies.
Clinically lead commissioning puts GP s and health care professionals in the centre of decision

be completed using exact skills and analytical thinking.

In order to maintain the integrity of the case all evidence must be properly collected and transported.
Officials must take the ethical and moral responsibility to uphold their jobs to collect every piece of
evidence and preserve it correctly. If it is not they could potentially ruin the evidence and any case that
may have been developed against the defendant. Once a scene has been released it is not possible to
go back and collect anything else. There is no longer a direct chain of custody from the original scene

The Causes Of Famine
Famine
With food production at an all time high, starvation should be at an all time low, but that is far from
the case. Unfortunately, famine is currently one of the main causes of death in third world countries.
In this essay I will look at the reasons for the famine, the consequences and compare the ideas of food
aid and sustainable livelihoods.
Famine causes malnutrition and death, in 2011, 260 000 people died of famine in Sudan and Ethiopia.
Over half of these were children. (Devi 2017) There is not one cause of famine in third world
countries, but instead multiple factors.
The idea that famine is due to food shortages is false, the world produces more food than we need, but
unfortunately those who need it do not have access to it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But if the crop fails, the merchant will be compensated, and receive a high share, while the farmer will
now be in debt. This is due to the sheil system in place. This prevents small farmers from receiving
money if their crop fails. This system is unfair as the sheil merchant sets the amount of interest, so
they will receive money either way, unlike the farmers who will only receive a small amount if their
crop is successful. (Lennart Olsson 1993) This contributed to the famine as farmers are often in debt
as many crops fail due to the drought. They then cannot afford to by food for their family.
Food aid has become an important part to help the famine in third world countries.
But unfortunately, there is evidence to show that the food aid needs improvement.
A few of the problems said to be from food aid is that the is a) not enough, b) unevenly distributed or
c) is from the donors market.
In 2007 Sudan had a food aid shortfall of $120 million US dollars. (Wahlberg 2008) Because of this
the WFP had to cut food rations and send the aid to smaller areas. This leads into the next issue, where
the food is unevenly distributed. International media has a huge influence on what crisis get funding,
such as the tsunami in 2004 got such a large media coverage that there was a lot of funding, but in
other disasters, especially ones in the middle east, media coverage isn t as high therefore

Credit Cards And Credit Card Debt
In today s world most people have a credit card by the time they turn eighteen years old. Nerd Walt, a
financial website, stated Average credit card debt in 2013 reached $15,480 per household in the United
States . (Bower) The average household credit card debt has probably increase since the 2013 study.
Overall U.S. National debt is rapidly approaching $18 trillion (Bower). 20% of credit card users often
pay off monthly balances on two or more credit cards according to a study (Bower). In today s society
it is normal to swipe a credit card to buy your children Christmas, because credit card companies now
offer rewards where an individual receives money back or maybe even a discount flight. People used
to not want to buy their children s Christmas on credit, but rather work a little harder and save up the
money to buy it. Children now days see their parents buying them stuff on credit card, so when they
become teenagers they expect to receive everything they want even if their parents cannot afford it.
When the child becomes a teenager, and they are finally old enough to get a credit card they take
advantage of the credit card. Young adults should learn to spend their money wisely and efficiently at
that age. Most young adults my age have a credit card and take advantage of it. I have been eighteen
now for a year, and I have been attending college for six months now, and I still don t have a credit
card. When I want to go buy a new outfit or a new electric item, I

Comparing The Baghavad Gita And The Upanishads
Throughout a majority of religions there exists pieces of art and literature that represent the faith as
well as the God(s)/Goddess(s) in each practice. Though these mediums may be taken out of context,
they play a vital role in truly encompassing and expressing a specific religion. One religion that does
not fail to take a hold of these agencies is Hinduism. In Hinduism, art plays a huge part in showing the
Gods/Goddess s, in their respective forms, as well as bringing a visual representation of battles and
historic moments in the religion. On the flip side of this idea, literature plays an even more important
role, for example, the Baghavad Gita and the Upanishads are two significant pieces that shape the
Hindu religion. In order to truly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reading through these different texts I found an affinity towards the Upanishads, specifically the
Katha Upanishad. While reading through it, I came across the conversation between Nachiketas and
Yama, the God of Death. In this conversation, Nachiketas is on his third boon and wishes to know the
truth of death, but Yama refuses and offers other boons. Nachiketas does not care for these boons
saying, All these pleasures pass away, O End of all! They weaken the power of life. And indeed how
short is all life! Keep thy horses and dancing and singing. This quote was quite compelling to me in
that Yama offered Nachiketas everything anyone could possibly want, but he still denied it. A majority
of people would not be able to turn down wealth and power to gain wisdom and yet Nachiketas
continues to push Yama for answers. He does not care for all the pleasures to come because he knows
that they will just fade away like everything else. It s also interesting to see how the writer creates the
overarching idea that this quote creates at the end of the book. Eventually, Nachiketas gains supreme
wisdom and becomes immortal through surrender of all desires in the heart (yoga). This ending brings
the idea to fruition in that in order to gain immortality and purity (being with Brahman) you must not
be distracted by pleasures and have a stilled mind. While this may be an easy thing to do for

Midwifery
Job Description
Midwives provide advice, care and support for women and their babies during pregnancy, labour and
the early postnatal period. They help women make their own decisions about the care and services
they access. They care for newborn children, providing health education and parenting support
immediately after delivery, until care is transferred to a health visitor. Midwives are personally
responsible for the health of both mother and child and only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Senior practitioner and management roles
As your knowledge and expertise grow, you could move into more senior practitioner roles. Becoming
a team or unit manager, you could combine responsibility for managing other staff with on going
hands on involvement with mothers and babies. You might consider the role of consultant midwife,
which provides clinical leadership for midwives and others across maternity services, or a
management role such as head of midwifery services or supervisor of midwives at local authority
level.
Education and research
Midwives can take further qualifications in teaching and mentoring to enable them to supervise and
teach student midwives. Some then go on to pursue an academic career in a university, teaching future
midwives and carrying out research that helps move the profession forward. Or you may prefer a
lecturer practitioner role, which allows you to combine an interest in teaching with hands on
midwifery practice.
Related professions
Midwives may choose to move into other related professions, such as neonatal nursing or health
visiting. Neonatal nurses care for women and babies with health complications around birth, for
example, helping pre term babies get through the critical first few days after they re born. Health
visitors work with families at home and in the community, promoting good health with a focus on
young children.

The Collaborative Teacher Education Program At The...
I am honored to be applying for the Collaborative Teacher Education Program at the University of
Massachusetts Amherst. Becoming a teacher is a career path that I did not consider taking until
recently. When I entered college, I did so as an undeclared student. My goal was not only to secure a
job after college, but also find a career where I will be happy for the next 50 years. I decide to settle
on economics, because I found the subject matter to be very pertinent and useful. However I never
wanted to be an economist or a banker, I just really enjoyed the classes. Two summers ago, I worked
for one of the largest camps in Massachusetts: the Metro West YMCA Day Camp. Though it was one
of the more challenging jobs I have ever had, it was also the most rewarding ones. I returned home
every day filthy and exhausted. However I always came home with a smile, and greater appreciation
for the wonders of youth. Following this great experience, I decided to begin applying for education
programs in order to receive a teaching license in Elementary Education and a Master s in Elementary
Education. Education is a field that allows me to fulfill my goal of finding a job where I could make a
difference and a lasting impact. Through education I can help develop the next generation, and mold
them into better citizens for tomorrow. My purpose in becoming an educator is to have a career with
meaning. Throughout my education process, my teachers have always had a great impact on me. They

The lawfulness issue is more complicated, as the shoplifting defense for the purposes of the statute can
be successfully applied to defeat claim of false imprisonment. However, an unreasonable belief of
suspected shoplifting and racial profiling would leave room for the argument that the Millers have a
valid claim. The second issue element in the confiscation of iPhone is not at issue because this was not
an instance of shoplifting. Therefore, the only element issue here is detention. Under the rule
recognized by Georgia courts, confiscation of Charlene s phone probably is not a detention. A. The
security guard s searching on Charlene for stolen CD might qualify as a detention, because the search
is against Charlene s will. By the presence of security guards will allow Charlene to argue the search
conducted by the security guard is against Charlene s will and accordingly a fear that force would be
used if she did not submit to the search, regardless of the fact Charlene acquiesced to the security
guard s search. Georgia courts acknowledged that a detention need not consist of physical restraint,
but may arise out of words, acts, gestures, or the like, which induce a reasonable apprehension that
force will be used if plaintiff does not submit; and it is sufficient if they operate upon the will of the
person threatened, and result in a

Schechner Research Paper
My essay will discuss the use of everyday life and the impact it has on performance, and postmodern
theatre. Looking at the writings of Schechner I will discuss and compare how his works relate to
postmodern theatre. Such as Verbatim Theatre, Documentary Theatre, Autobiographical Theatre, and
how Stanislavskian theatre is often ignored but is the starting point for these other styles. Is there a
style of theatre, or a practitioner that does not use any aspect of everyday life in their approach to
theatre? Is theatre in the twenty first century all based or inspired by everyday life?

In the theatre the actor and the audience both know that the actor is not who she is playing...the matter
is, of course, nicely complicated because in some methods of realistic acting, actors are taught how to
use their own selves to construct theatrical roles . (Schechner, 2002, P. 177). Stanislavski and his
approach to theatre taught the actors to consume the realities of their everyday lives and embark on an
emotional journey to devise their characters for performance. This technique feeds from the
practicalities of everyday life; Verbatim theatre is a form of documentary theatre which is based on the
spoken words of real people ( www.dramaonlinelibrary.com), this style of performance is dependent
on the use of everyday life. In this case, everyday life has a huge impact on

Mattel Mattel Strategic Plan
Customer focused strategic planning not always prevent issues from occurring like with Mattel, the
company is still suffering from the seriousness of product recall issues (Ferrell Hartline, 2014).
Despite Mattel s best efforts not all manufacturing companies overseas are keeping up with Mattel s
high standards (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). China s manufacturing companies say that Mattel is not
providing quality toy plans (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). Regardless of who is right or wrong, the
responsibility falls on Mattel, the name on the toy (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). Mattel is responsible for
holding their manufacturing companies to high standards (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). Unfortunately, not
every product produced is going to succeed when it comes to the safety of children (Ferrell Hartline,
2014). However, the responsibility lies on Mattel to test all products before and after manufacturing
(Ferrell Hartline, 2014). Skipping on cost can end up costing an organization in the long run with
recalls (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). The power is in the hands of the consumer to read up on these toys for
safety before buying (Ferrell Hartline, 2014). The consumer is also responsible for only buying age
appropriate toys for their children (Ferrell Hartline, 2014).
Mattel s tactical plan is to provide safe, affordable, toys that turn a financial profit (Mukherjee Pandit,
2009). Next, Mattel wants to adhere to consumers needs and wants by providing safe, age appropriate
toys

Persuasive Essay On Caged Rights
Caged Rights
Whether it was long ago in the glorious days of childhood or if it was a recent trip, the majority of us
have gone to a zoo at least once. As a child, no one seems to challenge the ethical dilemmas zoos put
forth, but as one matures they may start to call into question the ethics of zoos. Do zoos treat animals
humanely? Some questions one should think about are the zoo s breeding and conservation strategies
that go on and the exhibits. Do they support the necessities that animals require?
One well known positive impact zoos have in place are their breeding and conservation programs.
These educational and species saving programs have been able to bring numerous animals such as red
wolves, black footed ferrets, and California Condors back from the brink of extinction. Species
Survival Plans (SSPs), which aim to manage the breeding of specific endangered species in order to
help maintain healthy and self sustaining populations that are both genetically diverse and
demographically stable (Traw), are a key factor in saving these species. So far, the Association of
Zoos and Aquariums has put in place over 100 SSPs. Without these plans in place, the Earth would be
missing an even larger amount of species. One of the main arguments zoo protestors have against
captive breeding, is that it creates a lack of diversity in the species genes; however, experts in this field
are very knowledgeable about creating diversity, and they have software that looks over the genetic

Reef System Collapse
Perhaps one of the most significant anthropogenic factors contributing to reef system collapse is not
directly attributable to the practices of people within the Bahamas, but the people of the world as a
whole. As industry grows stronger, fossil fuels continue to burn at exceedingly high rates,
consumption reaches all time highs, and unsustainable livestock practices continue to emit high levels
of methane, climate change has caused an increase in temperature worldwide. This increase in
temperature has been largely absorbed by the Earth s oceans, causing them to rise in temperature as
well. Since 1880, ocean temperature has increased by 0.65 to 1.06°C. In the next 50 years, it is
predicted that ocean temperatures could reach an increase up ... Show more content on

that in order to promote the resilience of coral reefs and prevent the potential collapse of the Bahamas,
all three techniques must be combined in a fashion that will maximise the possibility for sustainable
reef ecosystems. By combining education and governmental policy, while supplementing those large
scale changes with direct influence on reef health in order for it to survive, lasting resilience is a real

Essay on American Politics
Every two to four years, politicians aspire to demonstrate their competency for political office.
Political campaigns and organizations concentrate millions of dollars to undercut and outlast the
opposition. They drag names through the mud, as if it were the next step on the political corporate
ladder. The American people, caught in the middle, are torn between the need for elected officials and
the heartbreak of countless shattered oaths. Consequently, they dissociate themselves from misused
words like Democrat, Republican, and change. They have learned to bite their tongue, drink their beer
and leave well enough alone. That s exactly what the politicians want. In 1933, the political landscape

characters, that Campaigns, Inc. used as Sinclair s own words in the L.A. Times. Campaigns, Inc. didn

dishonesty carries through to today. Now, hiring a political consultant is a requirement and a warning:
we will do whatever it takes to win (Cain 377). Ironically, Leone Baxter once voiced that political
consulting must be in the hands of the most ethical, principle[d] people . . . or else it will erode into
the hands of people who have no regard for the world around them. It could be a very, very destructive
thing (Lepore 59). In America s political history, there has never existed a person, who fits Baxter s
standards. The first five presidents, who helped instigate America s freedom, were still trapped in
monarchy s glamour: They hated monarchial rule, yet desired the appearance of a king. Their periods
of rule was marked with great ideologies, yet blotted with law that was quite contrary. With the
election of the seventh president, Andrew Jackson, George Washington s political party free America
was abandoned. Jackson compared to . . . John Quincy Adams . . . was poorly educated, with rather

Texas State is no different. A Texas Tribune analysis established that there is no amount of campaign fund can guarantee an individual, victory (Jones 2). If you are serious about campaigning for a federal office, you may need to part with ten to fifteen dollars per vote. U.S rep in his re election bid spent a whopping thirty dollars per vote and fortunately for him, he won. • 3. To What Extent Has Modern Liberalism Departed from... There are huge differences between classical and modern liberalism and as a result classical liberals believe that modern liberals have not stayed true to initial ideas posed by the likes of John Locke given that modern liberals have embraced collectivism while classical liberals favoured pure individualism. But they are fundamentally both forms of liberalism so are united in their belief of freedom and rights of the individual but they have slightly different views on the type of freedom they support. Classical liberalism has a belief in utilitarianism first posed by Jeremy Bentham, this is where individuals make tiny calculations about whether their actions will maximise pleasure or minimise pain . This is an egotistical form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... T.H. Green argued that freedom is the ability of the individual to develop individuality and this is a positive thing. This is thus done through self fufillment and pushing one s own knowledge. Positive freedom places emphasis on the individual flourishing rather than survival of the fittest so therefore the state should offer equal opportunities to all. This has seen modern liberals support the welfare state whereas classical liberals focused on standing on your own feet. But, this is not totally different to core liberal beliefs. The state only intervenes to ensure equality such as education and health. Modern liberals defend the welfare state on the basis of equality of opportunity. The welfare state has attempted to address issues such as idleness and want and squalor , named by the Beveridge Report by William Beveridge. Overall, Modern liberals believe in providing an equal playing field to help the individual flourish in society rather than the individual just battling for themselves. This belief in some state intervention and positive freedom has lead liberals of modern times to a belief in welfare and economic management. Modern liberals support economic management, proposed first by John Maynard Keynes, who argued that governments could manage their economies in order to thrive. They believe in a mixed economy where you sometimes must tax and spend and yet other times you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Medicare health plans being penalized On October 12, 2014, The New York Times reports that many of Medicare s health plans are being penalized for the improper rejection of claims, as well as unjustified limits on prescription drug coverage. Rejections lead to unprecedented growth in number of claim appeals A Federal Register notice, released in January 2014, by the Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals states that there has been an unprecedented growth in the number of claim appeals. These excessive appeals exceed the adjudication resources available to address them. The Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS) supports the efforts of the Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals in maintaining efficiency, steps have been taken to support it. • 6. The Unexamined Life Is A Life Not Worth Living What is happiness, and how can one achieve true happiness? This is the ultimate question of life and what every person is seeking an answer to. Many feel that they have found their answer in belonging to the faith of their choice, but what is it that their faith teaches them that brings them happiness? The Philosophers Socrates, Plato and Aristotle all have a similar view on what happiness is and how to achieve it. Aristotle s view is based on Plato s and Plato s is based on Socrates teachings; this is why they are similar but they are all important and different with each philosopher s personal views and beliefs. Socrates was a great man who was assassinated for his beliefs on the purpose of life and how to live happily. He presented the excellence of function to determine how a person will truly be happiest. The true person is not what he is on the out side but what his psyche or soul is and when that is functioning well the person is happiest. Psyche is the human capacity for reflective thinking and also the consciousness of the soul. The unexamined life is a life not worth living. This is a quote from Socrates that supports his views on psyche. It states that when a person does not examine his life to find his true self, or excellence of function, that they are ignoring their true self and that a false life is not worth the time to live it. So an examined life will find its true self or what its function is and want to perform its function well. The excellence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Persuasive Essay On The Problem Of Global Warming The world is addicted to fossil fuels, but it is quickly using up its resources and destroying the environment. Based on current estimates, oil and natural gas will peak by 2040. In addition, over the past 50 years, the average global temperature has increased at the fastest rate in recorded history (MacMillan Para 1). The United States needs to figure out a way to fulfill their massive demand for power while ensuring the safety of the planet. There are many possible ways to attack the problem at hand. The first proposal is to mandate the installment of solar rooftop units throughout the country. Another proposal is to install solar parks throughout the country. A final proposal is to simply incentivize the use and development of solar energy while phasing out fossil fuels. By implementing one of these three proposals, the United States government could help solve a problem that looms over the entire population. The major problem solar energy will look to fix is global warming. Global warming is the gradual increase of the average global temperature. This rise in heat is caused by the greenhouse effect, which is the warming that happens when certain gases in Earth s atmosphere trap heat. These gases let in light but keep heat from escaping, like the glass walls of a greenhouse (What is Global Warming Para 4). This process is natural and keeps Earth at an inhabitable temperature. • 9. Visual Art Plan By Otto Dix And James Gleeson Visual art Plan Artists all around the world have used metaphor in their pieces of work to convey meaning. A figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable. Most if not all pieces of art you can see in a museum or out on the street have remanets of metaphor beneath them. Artists use metaphor in their work to tell a story or a time period or in this case meaning. As the old saying goes a picture is worth a thousand words. The artist distorts the image to the way he or she wants to see it or would want others to see it. Otto Dix was a great artist. His paintings were very strong with spirituality and metaphor this was because he served in the first world war. Many of his paintings were of the first wold war because Dix volunteered and became a machine gunner which exposed him to see death daily. Through his experiences in the war he gained a lot of knowledge and saw a lot of things. One of his pieces stood out to me the most. That piece was the wounded soldier. In this picture I can see a muddy ground with blood splattered everywhere. The ground and the soldier almost looks like he is decaying. The soldiers face has an expression of confusion and elements of fear across him. Given his mouth is wide open it looks like he is in enormous amounts of pain and looks like he is screaming. This could be the face of a person going through their last seconds before they die or get shot. His hand is squeezing his heart like he got shot in the area. His helmet seems to be dirty and bloody as almost like he has been here for a long time. The work has been put together very well according to the elements and principles of art. The lines in the art work are very bold and revealing. The lines are clearly outlining the wounded soldier and what is movements and actions are at the current time of him being painted. The Master Builder Essay In The Master Builder, by Henrik Ibsen, the playwright underlines Halvard Solness flaws and shows how they can have an impact on those around him as well as on himself. Throughout the play, Solness, the Master Builder, becomes overcome by an uncontrollable fear of his own mortality, fear of loss and fears that youth and fresh talents will overtake him in his work. As a result, he becomes overwhelmed by his own driving ambition as a means of proving himself. He should have been pleased with me . He now feels guilty that he has not performed well enough and has not pleased God. Neither does he feel he has pleased his wife, Aline, as their house of which she was very proud was burnt down. Ibsen describes, in detail, Solness very emotional reaction to the death of his twin sons after the fire, as he confides to Hilde, The two little children they re not so easy to forget, Hilde . This shows that Solness is a thinking, feeling person. Solness feels the loss of his children was a punishment from God, as was the burning down of his house. He says he will no longer build churches or church towers, but only homes for human beings... where the father and mother and a whole lot of children could live safely and happily feeling that it s good to be alive in the world . He wants to exorcise himself of the devil by creating homes for people to live in and making them happy. Gender Norm Media And Culture Name: Po Chin Wu RIN: 661401218 Course: STSS 1520 Sociology Date: 10/9/2015 Gender norm in media and culture Dozens of action movies are produced every year by Hollywood. Not to mention how widely most violent scenes such as guns and kills are accepted in most of them. Although most may view them only as entertainments, it is undeniable that the overexposed ideas of power and dauntless from not only the movies but our daily media had slowly changed our social norms toward gun and violent. Over 900 mass shootings, defined as having four or more fatalities in one incident by CNN, has happened in less than three years since 2013. When in fact, as TV news and newspapers intended to inform titles like a student opened fire or people are shot dead in a historic black church , almost none marked out the issue on gender or men in the titles. African Americans, psychotics, Mexicans, and immigrants are more often to be written in contents of violence, whereas only few articles wrote about white men, who also build up a big part of our masculinity society. In the past, violence came from anger in specific reasons; today, violence has become a way to represent our toughness and masculinity. Not only did our popular culture lead us to a narrower idea of distinct gender behaviors, such as men to be brave and women to be sensitive, our media provides us even more contents toward normalizing what should be violent and incorrect. • 12. The Turing Test And The Theory Of Computer System Can a machine think? Is a long lived question humans have had? If a machine can think then it must have the same intelligence as a human, then right? If a machine has human intelligence, then does that mean it has a mind of its own? It is desired by many humans to know if one day the answers to all these questions could be yes. In hopes of figuring this out, a testing method was created called the Turing Test. This test was created by an English mathematician named Alan Turing in the 1940s and 1950s. Alan Turing was interested in the idea of artificial intelligence, or the theory of computers being able perform tasks like humans. In result of introducing this theory, Turing developed a testing method called the Turing Test. This would answer the question Can computers think? The Turing Test consist of three subjects. Two of these subjects are humans and the other is a computer system. One human is the questioner who is required to ask the other two subjects a series of questions. By the responses of the other two subjects, the questioner has to determine which subject is the computer, and which one is the human. In order to receive accurate results, the test is repeated many times. If the computer system is believed to be the human subject by the questioner, then the computer system is confirmed to have artificial intelligence. However, questioning must be in a specific style for accurate test results. Computer systems have an advantage over humans in certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The Columbian Exchange, Cons, And The Impacts Of The... In 1492, Columbus and his crew disembarked three ships: The Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. He and his crew were kindly welcomed by the foreign men and women he thought to be the Indians of Asia. However, about two thousand years earlier, a group of Viking explorers discovered the land and stayed there for a few years, before returning to Greenland. Although Columbus did not discover this foreign land, he was responsible for the changes that soon followed his voyage. These changes, referred to as the Columbian Exchange, altered the way the natives lived, traded, hunted, and fought amongst other tribes. It also led to undesirable effects for the tribes, as a result of the introduction of new diseases, slave labor, and advanced weaponry. From first contact, the foreign Europeans forced the natives into quickly and radically adapting to the new threats they faced and learning how to use the newly introduced products the Europeans carried over to the New World. As the Europeans started arriving to the distant continent, disease was an invisible menace to the natives. Although the Native American population was not aware of the diseases the European men carried, the viruses decimated villages and quickly spread to faraway lands from the minor exchange between village traders. The European explorers brought smallpox, influenza, typhus, measles, malaria, and diphtheria into the new land, all of which the native population had no immunity towards. This introduction ... Review Of The Summer Of 2010 By Elie Saab Essay In the summer of 2010, Elie Saab was confronted with many challenging decisions for the company, during his meeting with company manager director Churchi Cavalcanti. The main topic of discussion during this meeting was to grow the brand in new and existing markets while maintaining the brand s exclusivity and position as one of the few remaining established brands in Haute couture. (Kayyal Shuayto, 2012) The company s success in the last five years has shown a large growth in the ready to wear (RTW) product line. As stated in the case, While revenues have been growing rapidly, 2007 showed a 27 percent growth compared to 2006 and 2008 grew by a staggering 49 per cent compared to the previous year. Operating expenses also decreased during the same time period. (Kayyal Shuayto, 2012) The company is on the right track and looking to expand and maintain their momentum. On the other hand, management has been struggling with factors such as, which partners they should go into business with and what new markets they should penetrate to create the maximal level of growth. • 16. Treatment Of Women In The Gospels Essay In the beginning, women s status and freedoms were severely limited. Many people may believe that they had started off with just as many obligations as men, but that is not the case at all. Actually, it is the complete opposite, women had nothing when it came to the early days of the Gospel. That is until Jesus came around and changed things. Here we will discuss three very important details of women in the Gospels. We will discuss women in ancient Israel around the time of Jesus and how they were expected to act, then we will move on to Jesus radical treatment of women and how Jesus was technically, in today s definition, a feminist , finally we will discuss passages where Jesus apparently does not call for equality of the sexes. All in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jesus teaching must have seemed very radical. How Jesus treated women was dramatically different from how they were treated among the Jewish society. He consistently treated men and women as equals. Which in today s society is the definition of a Feminist. According to Dictionary.com, Feminist means advocating social, political, legal, and economic rights for women equal to those of men. Jesus violated many of the Old Testament regulations, which specified gender inequality. He refused to follow the rules that were established by the three main religious groups of the day. Those three religious groups consisted of the Essenes, Pharisees and Sadducees. There are many examples on the Jesus radical treatment of women, one would include how he taught women students. Jewish tradition at the time was to not allow women to be taught. In Luke 10:38 42, he taught Mary, sister of Martha. Jesus also used terminology which treated women as equal to men. For example, in Luke 13:16 it describes how Jesus cured a women from a Satanic Spirit. He called her a daughter of Abraham, therefore implying that she had equal status with sons of Abraham. Another example of Jesus use of terminology can be described in Luke 7:35 to 8:50 where it is described how Jesus forgave a woman s sins. He refers to women and men as children of ... • 19. The Banning Of Banning Catcher In The Rye There are numerous banned books which are removed from shelves due to their controversial content not only just in America but also around the world. The novel, The Catcher in the Rye, written by J.D. Salinger is one of the most well known censored publications throughout American schools. The novel, set in the 1950s, is narrated by a sixteen year old boy named Holden Caulfield. The story begins in a mental hospital where Holden is undergoing treatment. From there, he tells his account of his expulsion from school and his subsequent lonesome journey throughout New York, all of which happened leading up to his voluntary admission into the sanitorium. Most of the novel s adversaries argue that the book should be banned due to its vulgar content including the constant use of profanity, the apparent thoughts of violence, and the descriptions of sexual activity. On the contrary, I believe that this novel should not be banned because it brings attention to mental illness. The most valid argument supporting the banning of The Catcher in the Rye is the abundant usage of profanity. The novel is composed of a variety of negative language which helps define Holden s character. Salinger uses multiple words with negative connotations such as: lousy , bastard , sonuvabitch , and phony . It is no surprise that three of the top five words in The Catcher in the Rye goddam , hell and damn are curse words... (Taylor). So, in a perfect world nobody should approve of this ... The British Medical Association (2010) stresses that it is not just finance that drives medical decisions as consideration must be given to the clinical need of the local heath community. Unfortunately, famine is currently one of the main causes of death in third world countries. In this essay I will look at the reasons for the famine, the consequences and compare the ideas of food aid and sustainable livelihoods. Famine causes malnutrition and death, in 2011, 260 000 people died of famine in Sudan and Ethiopia. Over half of these were children. (Devi 2017) There is not one cause of famine in third world countries, but instead multiple factors. This is due to the sheil system in place. This prevents small farmers from receiving money if their crop fails. This system is unfair as the sheil merchant sets the amount of interest, so they will receive money either way, unlike the farmers who will only receive a small amount if their crop is successful. (Lennart Olsson 1993) This contributed to the famine as farmers are often in debt as many crops fail due to the drought. They then cannot afford to by food for their family. Food aid has become an important part to help the famine in third world countries. But unfortunately, there is evidence to show that the food aid needs improvement. One religion that does not fail to take a hold of these agencies is Hinduism. In Hinduism, art plays a huge part in showing the Gods/Goddess s, in their respective forms, as well as bringing a visual representation of battles and historic moments in the religion. While reading through it, I came across the conversation between Nachiketas and Yama, the God of Death. Nachiketas does not care for these boons saying, All these pleasures pass away, O End of all! They weaken the power of life. And indeed how short is all life! Keep thy horses and dancing and singing. This quote was quite compelling to me in that Yama offered Nachiketas everything anyone could possibly want, but he still denied it. A majority of people would not be able to turn down wealth and power to gain wisdom and yet Nachiketas continues to push Yama for answers. He does not care for all the pleasures to come because he knows that they will just fade away like everything else. It s also interesting to see how the writer creates the overarching idea that this quote creates at the end of the book. Eventually, Nachiketas gains supreme wisdom and becomes immortal through surrender of all desires in the heart (yoga). This ending brings the idea to fruition in that in order to gain immortality and purity (being with Brahman) you must not be distracted by pleasures and have a stilled mind. Some questions one should think about are the zoo s breeding and conservation strategies that go on and the exhibits. Do they support the necessities that animals require? One well known positive impact zoos have in place are their breeding and conservation programs. These educational and species saving programs have been able to bring numerous animals such as red wolves, black footed ferrets, and California Condors back from the brink of extinction.
