Facial Symmetry and Physical Attractiveness
Literature on the topic of attractiveness is very extensive. The human face is something that catches
every ones attention and more over the scientists as well the psychologists are interested in analyzing
the ability of humans to extract information of the others. Several factors and features are associated
with attractiveness. Some examples include facial symmetry, skin color, facial traits, clear skin and
health of facial skin. It is hypothesized that facial symmetry is an important factors in measuring
physical attractiveness. Different features may be perceived as attractive by different people.
Biologists believed that facial symmetry should be attractive because it may signal mate quality.
Rhodes, Proffit, Grady and Sumich (1998) manipulated the symmetry to figure out the effect on
attractiveness. 4 versions of a picture were created. One was perfectly symmetric, the others were a
highly symmetric version, normal level of symmetry and a low symmetric version.64 subjects rated
these faces. The results clearly stated that perfect symmetry was significantly more attractive and low
symmetry faces were unattractive, more over the males found the perfect symmetric faces more
appealing as potential life partners, so facial symmetry does play a role in mate selection. In the
second experiment the authors compared the attractiveness of faces at three symmetry levels. These
were normal, high and perfect. The subjects were shown two versions of the same face at different

Sociocultural Perspective On Human Behavior And...
Have you ever wondered why do we do things that we do? Why do we act in a certain way? What
compels us to follow a path or formulate habits? One perspective among many others is the
sociocultural perspective. A sociocultural perspective is an approach to understand why humans
behave the way they do. It seeks to understand human behavior and personality development by
examining the influence of rules of social groups on individuals who are members of those social
groups. Sociocultural approach is an emerging topic that looks at the important contributions that
society makes to an individual. The sociocultural approach is based on the assumption that our
personalities, beliefs, attitudes and skills are learned from others. It refers to a point of view that is
built upon the idea that society and culture are major factors that influence personalities. This
approach believes that people are heavily influenced by their social environment. What makes and
defines us as individuals is the application of sociocultural approach. For example, if you look outside
the window and see a man talking to a tree, what conclusions will you draw? You may think the man
is a lunatic and needs some kind of medication. But would your opinion change if you knew that the
man was Native American and Native Americans believe in a spiritual philosophy that trees can speak
if you listen to them. So you see, the context of culture makes a huge difference in how you ascertain
someone s behavior and that s

Compare And Contrast Egyptian Revolution And American...
Many times when people revolt against the government, it leaves the country in a worse spot that it
was before. Throughout history there have been many revolutions in many different places. Two of the
most significant have been the American Revolution, from the 1700 s, and more recently the Egyptian
revolution from 2011. Both of these revolutions have many similarities within each other, but they
also have many actions to contrast. The topics being compared include; how the revolutions started.
The demands of the revolting groups. Lastly, what the two groups did to protest against the
government.

Differences
To start off with the comparing and contrasting; their are multiple similarities.
First off how the revolutions were started. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Egyptians were mad at the government for not doing anything about the poverty and unemployment as
well as believing that the government was corrupt. Next, the demands of both groups leading the
revolutions both wanted a change in the government. In both situations the majority of the people
were very mad at the government and wanted a change. Also, eventually both groups did get what
they demanded in the change of government.
Lastly, both of the revolutions included many protests. An example from each would be the Egyptian
citizens boycotting the the election and not voting, and the colonist tossing a ton of tea overboard into
the ocean so it could not be bought and the government would not get the money from the taxes,
which is called the Boston Tea Party. That is some of the similarities between the two

The TCO approach allows Troon management to refresh its hardware at the optimal cost level by
determining the operational life expectancy of the IT items. By looking at the direct and indirect costs
of each IT hardware and software item, along with the benefits that are related to it, management used
their analysis to get the best price and depreciated value for each item. This analysis allows them to
figure the most cost effective way to handle maintenance and replacement of all it components and in
turn, minimize expenses.
In my opinion, Troon s IT expenses were spiraling out of control when they did not take the
maintenance and upgrade costs into account when doing their original spending analysis. Systems

Wang Gender Roles
The Chinese film, The King of Masks (Tianming, 1996), is representative of the type of film that
embodies the traditional ideals of China. The story takes place in the 1930s, during which girls in
China were not highly valued or respected. Evidence of gender discrimination can be seen throughout
the film, particularly when families give daughters away for free while sons are valued higher. The
preference for sons over daughters is deeply intertwined with Chinese society as even early Confucian
teachings foster gender discrimination (Jiang, 234). While the film presents itself as a story of love
during harsh times, as portrayed through the development of the master apprentice relationship
between Doggie and Wang, it also comments on the social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

After purchasing Doggie, whom he presumed was a boy, Wang s expressions lighten up as he can pass
on his secret skill to him. This changes when he discovers that Doggie is a girl. Wang s anger and
disgust at Doggie provokes the audience to feel a sense of sadness and unfairness for Doggie. As a
result, Doggie is no longer considered worthy to learn the secret skill of bian lian from Wang.
However, Doggie eventually wins Wang s affection and they both attend Master Liang s performance
of attaining Nirvana. It is during the opera that Doggie sees the Bodhisattva sacrificing herself to save
her father, a foreshadowing of what is to come. Tianming is able to illustrate the symbolic importance
of the Bodhisattva and the hope of redemption in which she embodies through Doggie s act. Her
determination to save Wang sets the scene for her to mimic the Bodhisattva and throw herself off the
building. In contrast to the sadness and suffering Doggie has endured, she represents the goodness of
humanity and establishes women s strength and necessity in society. Through this scene, Doggie has
symbolically reached Nirvana and rekindles her relationship with Wang, who realizes that Doggie is
more valuable than the son he wishes to

The Story Of Kohl s
The story of Kohl s commenced during 1962 in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Founded by Max Kohl, the
company initially began as a department store, meaning it sold a variety of goods, which back then
included food produce. The company BATUS inc., a division of British American Tobacco, took
control of Kohl s Food department by purchasing 80% of their stake. BATUS was not able to deal
with the amounting competition, so they went out of the retail business by the mid 1980 s, and later
sold Kohl s food stores to the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea company (A P) in 1983. Kohls ranked
eighth in Wisconsin s top 100 privately owned companies by 1987, and the greatest growth year was
in 1988 when the company purchased 26 federated department stores. This

Mesmer Magnetism Essay
According to German physician, Franz Anton Mesmer, the entire universe is connected by an invisible
thing know as animal magnetism. Mesmer believed that the entire human body was filled with this
magnetism and that it was carried through the body in a constant flow. Illnesses occur as the result of
the flow of magnetism becoming blocked off. Mesmer was able to cure his patients through several
appointments. Soon, high powered, influential members of society began to investigate Mesmer s
practices, this committee was called the Royal Commission. In order for Mesmer to cure his patients
he would sit opposite of them and would touch their finger and knees, he would also look into the
afflicted person s eyes (typically unmarried, rich, young ladies). After several appointments with
Mesmer the patients would experience a crisis and would be miraculously cured. Mesmer first started
curing his patients in one on one appointments, but soon he began to train others in this art, these male
understudies of Mesmer were called adepts. With the help of these adepts Mesmer was able to cure
more people at once. Mesmer, who was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Deslon entered the room. Once Deslon entered the room the woman suffered from a crisis. The tests

Comparison Of Faith And The Ethics Of Belief
Some people believe that there is an existing conflict between faith and reason, but not all. This is not
limited only to those who identify as religious nor does it apply strictly to those who deny the
existence of God. As written in the Bible, We are to have good reason for what we believe, and we are
to be always ready to share that reason with other people (1 Peter 3:15). The argument of faith and
reason is seen in numerous philosophical writings such as Blaise Pascal s Faith is a Logical Bet or
W.K. Clifford s The Ethics of Belief. In both we find strengths and weaknesses which defend their
individual beliefs based on reasoning and logical thinking.

Clifford s The Ethics of Belief, Clifford offers an argument which differs from Pascal s argument. In
The Ethics of Belief, Clifford argues that simply having belief in a Theistic God is unethical without
having sufficient evidence to support ones belief. This argument does not focus solely on faith but it
demands that reason be included in the decision to believe in anything not just in deciding whether a
Theistic God does in fact exist or not. Clifford begins his argument telling a story about a ship owner
who was about to send his emigrant ship to sea knowing the ship was old and not in the best shape as
it once had been. Even though it had been suggested to the owner that the ship was not seaworthy, the
doubts were not enough for the owner to have the ship inspected and repaired if necessary. Instead, the
ship owner make the decision to set aside all doubts without having sufficient evidence to do so, he
allowed the ship to set sail. In the end, the ship did not make the voyage, all those aboard were killed,
and the ship owner collected the insurance money when for the ship (Clifford). As an outsider looking
in, the ship owners decision to ignore previous suggestion to inspect and repair the ship was unethical.
As the owner it was his responsibility to ensure safety and a successful voyage. Of course unexpected
situations, issues, and events could have resulted in the same outcome of the passengers losing their
lives, however, this was not the case. From the

Comparison Of Gender Regime In China And India
In my essay I will be focusing on comparing gender regime in China and India. I will first give an
overview of how gender regime is defined. I will discuss ways in which how the role of women in
Confucianism differs from that of Hindu women.I will have a section on China and another section on
India, in regards to gender changes, I will mention changes on what a marriage law was like and the
role women play I will also look into their practices. Later I will discuss gender regime which has
occurred in China pre Mao and post Mao and in India pre independence and today. After I will
collaborate Gender Regime together in both countries. My paper will be focusing on some important
matters, how to identify Gender regime? how it arose? And, how it is being implemented? Lastly, I
will conclude my essay. Within the last two decades, Women s lives and gender discourse has been
impacted politically, economically, legally, and technologically. Women have been influenced by age,
class, and ethnicity. Gender regimes vary in different societies and cultures. Both India and China
have had many changes within gender. Gender Regime is how things are between Men and Women in
school, work, and family. Gender Regime is a way in which people relate to one another. It looks upon
how often women are recognized. Thereby, a regime may constitute a high level of acceptance by
states. Gender issues have been analyzed as a global concern (Kardam 2002, P.411). Some ways in

Volunteering In The First World
Volunteering has many effects on both the volunteer and the individuals that volunteering helps.
Volunteer work is vital to the growth of society, as money is not abundant for many people. Without it,
society as a whole would be much more harsh and bland. For example, many public service workers
are volunteers, along with many local actors and shelter both animal and human workers. Volunteer
work from groups of individuals such as firemen and firewomen, soup kitchen workers, and the
Doctors Without Borders organization, is one of the main reasons that societies around the world have
advanced to become first world countries.
Through selfless acts of many individuals, volunteering is what has made many heavily populated,

Since the dawn of capitalism and democracy, humans have seen that not everyone is born into a good
life. Many people have to work two, or perhaps even three, jobs in order to make a living. Even then,
there is no guarantee that an individual will lead a happy, well to do life. As society grows and
matures, human civilization will come to accept that volunteering is a necessity. If no one in our
communities volunteered, there will be too many people that lead lives of poverty and envy. However,
the more that people volunteer, the less amount of people in our communities will struggle in their
lives. Whenever people obtain aid in their lives, they are more likely to reciprocate that help later in
time. The more aid a person receives, the more opportunities they have to lead a better life in the
future. If everyone helped one another in any form or fashion, life would be much better as we know
it. We, as a human civilization, have seen repeatedly that people who have lived through hard times
are more likely to give back to their communities if they have better lives later on. As time goes on,
years from now, hopefully we will see poverty, hunger, heart failure, and other common emergencies

Humanity, Monstrosity, Gothic Literature Death Essay
Humanity, Monstrosity, Gothic Literature Death by J. Williams The Gothic genre delves into the
depths of humanity, where the presence of the horrible and the macabre represent the dark side of
human nature. Indeed, according to M. H. Abrams, Gothic novelists invited fiction to the realm of the
irrational and of the perverse impulses and nightmarish terrors that lie beneath the orderly surface of
the civilized mind (111). In such works, unnatural desires and forbidden excesses that are buried and
secret in the functioning self, become the monsters lurching around in Gothic lore. Eve Sedgwick
expands upon these themes by identifying how the fictional self is massively blocked off from

(112 13) Bertha is also an outcast, although she has known an even sharper degree of oppression, so
perhaps it is excusable that she cannot contain her result. She has lost her family, wealth and sanity in
the years since becoming Mr. Rochester s wife. Mr. Rochester acknowledges that Bertha s madness is
due in part to a hereditary disorder concealed from him by her family. However, his depiction of her as
loose and drunken suggests that she is also an immoral woman, and ultimately at fault for her
monstrous condition. Confined for over ten years in the attic (in lieu of a dungeon) at Thornfield,
Bertha has become physically deformed and utterly malevolent. Her wild, unrestrained passion is
juxtaposed with Jane s surface of steady morality. Shut off from the full assertion of thought and
feeling that should be her right, Bertha is the monstrous double that powerfully represents what Jane
has subdued. Though Bertha must ultimately be destroyed (in a violent fire) to be freed from her
tyrannical existence, and for Jane to be united with Mr. Rochester and eventually freed of her own
monstrousness, Bertha s presence in the novel serves as a potent expression for the underlying forces

Cataphatic Meditation
Meditation is a mental exercise used to reach a heightened level of spiritual and mental awareness thru
repeating one s mantra and breath. Although the practice sounds simple in itself and doesn t sound like
there would be much room for an expansion and growth as a practice, it has still managed to grow into
an umbrella term with a rich history and a wide verity of different meditation that people practice.
Some even date back before the Buddhist monks in early 2,500 B.C. People have been practicing
meditation for years from the Catholic monasteries, to the Desert Father, and throughout the Buddhist
monasteries across Asia. However, unlike apophatic meditation form the branches of meditation that
can be found as most beneficial is the Kataphatic (also known as Cataphatic) meditation form which

Ripley says Here school is about learning, but it s also about training to compete in games that
majority of kids will never get paid to play. It s about pep rallies, booster clubs, trophy cases and
cheerleaders decorating football players lockers after they fill them with brownies. (Ripley). There are
benefits for student athletes that a class room could not teach. For example, say an student athlete was
awarded team captain of a basketball team. The captain would gain leadership skills that no textbook,
teacher or classroom could teach him. From that experience they are able to take that talent they have
learned and apply it to the classroom and their personal studies. The life skills that these student
athletes are learning are irreplaceable.
Another thing is that being a student athlete brings personal responsibility. They know that they need
to meet certain academic standards they must meet in order to play in the games and practice.
However that reasonability causes them to push themselves and do better than students who do not
participate in sports. A study published in the Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise in August
2007 said that students who were active in sports performed 10 percent better in core subjects (math

Narrative Writing Assignments Of Pretentious Middle School...
Hyperextended crabs. Pinwheel of death. Broken winged pterodactyl. Such terminology seems
befitting of comparisons found in the interpretive writing assignments of pretentious middle school
students in an introductory art class. At the very least, they certainly do not invoke the feelings
associated with rational conceptions of what they describe in reality: districts across ordinary towns in
the United States. More sensibly, one could delegate responsibility for these frighteningly amorphous
and visually unappealing figures to the contrived workings of legislatures, yet a certain degree of
accountability ought to be attributed to the currently flawed legal precedent for handling the
intricacies of one of America s most virulent issues. Furthermore, the issue runs much deeper than the
superficial concerns from, they are physically discernable warning signs of a startling trend that

prevalence of district gerrymandering.
Every decade, as per the Supreme Court s ruling in Reynolds v. Sims, U.S. Congressional districts

Passion in A Midsummer Night s Dream Essay
Passion in A Midsummer Night s Dream Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream may come off as
a simple comedy but is a complex play with many interesting aspects. Passion, a significant
characteristic, is often expressed through the play. Characters in the play show passion for different
reasons; Puck passions for mischief, Helena for Demetrius love and Bottom for theatrics, are a few of
the many examples. Passion shows much significance, being the most important characteristic in the
play. Puck is a mischievous sprite, involved with most magical events in the play. Often playing tricks
for his own enjoyment or by his master, Oberon s, commands, Puck is depicted as a young, deceptive
character. When first discovered as Robin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being the only character, other than Bottom, to enter both the human and fairy world, the play makes
Puck to be the protagonist. While there his trickery and trouble are antagonistic in nature, his vital part
is that of a positive character, ultimately resolving all problems. Puck treats the entire idea of love as
madness, the idea Shakespeare was conveying with his trickery. Helena is portrayed as a desperate
character, her passion being for the love of Demetrius. Helena spends most of the story pursuing
Demetrius in hope of receiving any form of affection in return, only receiving affection due to magic.
While chasing Demetrius, Helena says What worser place can I beg your love, And yet a place of high
respect with me, Than to be usèd as you use your dog? (II.i.208 210) Helena, knowing demeaning
herself to the position of a dog, believes that she is not worthy enough for such authority, therefore
hoping she will be given the honour. Helena compares herself to a dog in the sense that the more
Demetrius rejects her, the harder she will try to receive any emotion from her master. Although
heartbroken by Demetrius hatred for her, Helena showers Demetrius with comments, only to be
continuously beaten down. This is explicitly shown when Helena comments on Demetrius demeanor
and is, again rejected, saying, You draw me, you hard hearted adamant; But yet you draw not iron, for

Essay On Chocolate Labour In West Africa
Do you enjoy eating chocolate? Many people around the world love eating chocolate. People in the
United States eat around 120 chocolate bars each year. But would you still enjoy eating that chocolate
bar if you knew that the chocolate that is used to make those delicious bars comes from the forced
labor of young children? Chocolate is made from cacao beans that grow in tropical places like West
Africa. The countries in West Africa supply more than 70 percent of the world s cocoa. They sell the
cocoa they grow and harvest to many of the chocolate companies who make our chocolate candy bars.
In recent years, news reporters, as well as human rights organizations around the world, have
discovered that there is widespread child slavery for growing and harvesting cocoa beans on cocoa
farms in West Africa. As chocolate has gotten more popular around the world, so has the demand for
cheap cocoa. Many cocoa farmers earn less than $2 per day. To help keep the cost of cocoa low, they
use children as workers. The children living in West Africa are very poor. Some of these children go to
work on cocoa farms because their desperately poor families need them to earn money. Other children
are taken against their will from small villages and sold to cocoa farm owners. These children work 80
to 100 hours a week. They are not paid. They do not go to school. They are often beaten if they try to
escape. Most of these children are between the ages of 11 and 16, but some people have seen

Debeers s Diamond Dilemm A Case Study
DeBeers s Diamond Dilemma: A Case Study
Introduction
The DeBeers s group of companies is a leading diamond exploration, mining, retail and trading
company that was founded in 1888. The organization has its headquarters in Luxembourg and has
mining agreements in close to 30 countries inclusive of the world s leading diamond producers such as
South Africa, Botswana, Canada and Namibia (Cadieux, 2005). The company enjoys one of the
leading market shares in the natural diamond industry with a current share of around 40%. However,
this is a noted decline from past decades where it controlled up to 80% of the world s diamond supply
by the 1990s. The decline noted in its apparent monopoly was caused by a number of factors including
the rise of new suppliers outside of its control. Additionally, negative press threatened its reputation as
it was accused of unfair monopolistic and anti competitive practices, price fixing and even dabbling in
the supply and distribution of the controversial blood diamonds.
A more significant threat for the company has been the rise of the synthetic diamond market where
essentially real diamonds are manufactured within plants and don t have to undergo millions of years
of formation underground in addition to grueling extraction processes. These diamonds possess a lot
of quality while being sold at a fraction of the prices of natural diamonds and have seen a rise in
demand and in the total diamond market share. While DeBeers has played down the

Frame Narrative In Beowulf
Early English literature proceeds from orally transmitted storytelling, relying on the construction of an
epic past to develop a sense of patriotism within the country. As written culture becomes more
prevalent, however, this genre s timeless attribute diminishes due an increase in recorded history
which gradually turns literature s focus from mystical origins to a concrete present. Frame narrative,
or stories within a story, exist prevalently within the epic genre, but persist throughout this transition,
generally preserving structure, but mutating in function. Although early literature forms like the epic
employ frame narratives to convey their grandiose style, the transition from historical epics to satirical
poetry aligns with frame narrative s transition as an element of style to one of theme. In British oral
tradition, storytelling mainly serves to instill patriotic zeal within citizens. The advent of literacy
results in the transcription of these stories, which predominantly take the form of the epic: an origin
story in which an epic hero displays heroic acts in a setting with few temporal cues, disconnecting the
story from any specific point in history. Beowulf, one such epic, exhibits these properties, with events
transpiring without indication of the relative passage of time. One literary device which lends itself to
the manifestation of this quality, the frame narrative, muddles the reader s perspective of time by
constantly by jumping between events in the main

Maxine Hong Kingston s `` No Name Woman ``
Being an author of several praised works, Maxine Hong Kingston has been deemed a noteworthy
American writer since her first book debuted. Her unique style and interesting blend of myth and truth
in memoir form garnered her international attention and won her several awards. Kingston s works
have put heavy emphasis on her family history and her experiences as a Chinese American, so it is no
surprise that she has been received well by many and misunderstood by others at the same time. A
discussion on one of her most popular works, No Name Woman , and a look at the different ways
Kingston s works have been interpreted should reveal how literature can have different meanings
depending on what one is looking for.
Kingston was born in October of 1940 in the Californian city of Stockton and since her parents were
Chinese emigrants to the United States, Kingston became a first generation Chinese American (
Maxine Hong Kingston ). Coming to the United States changed the career situation for both of
Kingston s parents, as her father went from teaching to working in a gambling house and her mother
went from being a doctor to a stay at home mom raising six children (Baym 1567). After attending the
University of California in Berkeley and graduating in 1962, Kingston spent many years teaching
through various jobs before getting published in 1976 ( Maxine Hong Kingston ). Once her initial

Athens and Sparta were two supper Poleis in ancient Greece. The two states operated in different ways
in terms of their governance, political life, economy, education and social life.

system of government. The right to participate in public life was therefore different in both states.
The state of Athens became a democracy in about 500 BCE. The composition of Athens population
include the following, citizens, Metics and slaves.(Brandn.d).

treated differently. Boys were favored in all sphere of life than girls. The boys in Athens started

mathematics. At the age of 18, boys began the military training. Girls were not given this opportunity
in Athens. They were less educated and thought only how to cook, clean weave and take care of
children at home.
The Spartan system of education differed from that of Athens in that, they believed that men and
women were responsible for protecting the state. This started right from birth.

Persuasive Essay On Open Campus
Schools across the nation are debating over the issue in whether high school students should be
allowed to leave their campus during their lunch period or remain on school grounds. Students need an
open campus lunch policy to give them the freedom they deserve. Many could argue that an open
campus creates drama and destruction, but more good comes than the bad. Responsibility, staffing,
and local businesses all contribute to the successes of having an open campus lunch. High school
students sit in class all day isolated to the confined space of the school property. They need and
deserve a little time to escape.
Having an open campus lunch stimulates the economy. Kids are great spenders, especially on food.
According to FONA International s 2014 Trend Insight Report, teens spend around 18% of their
money on food ( U.S. Teens Spend... 1). This means that they hog much of the market when it comes
to fast food. One local business owner, Dick Hood, runs a sub shop right across from the high school
at Round Rock. He admitted that closing the campus would cause him to lose business (Schroeter 1).
The location of restaurants nearby helps to keep the students close enough to the school and allows for
them to walk or bike versus driving. In New York, students gather at the Vestal Bakery and Deli. Here,
the deli serves many students from Vestal High School and relies on the business from the lunch rush
that they provide (Basler 1). With the business of the students they are able to hire more employees
therefore helping the economy. Rachel Kirkpatrick also contributes to the fast casual eateries in her
area. Some days her and her friends would go into town and eat at their local bagel shop or Chipotle.
When it was warm outside they would picnic on the school s lawn (Marszalek 1). In addition, one
school that is on the edge with deciding what to do is weighing out the pros and cons. They said that
having an open campus would get the students out in the community and let them support local
businesses, that was a major pro (Poolman 1). In a small town, these places thrive on the younger
generations money. Lisa Williams is the manager of Grecco s. On a typical day, over 30 teens come in

Title: How do various mixing methods affect the production of milk fat?
Purpose
The purpose of the experiment was to determine which method of agitation, either shaking, stirring,
whisking, or blending, produced the largest mass of milk fat.
Background Information Producing butter is a task that can easily be done at home. Butter is one of
the most highly concentrated forms of fluid milk that is made simply by agitating heavy cream
(Douma, 2008). There are several methods of agitation, including shaking, stirring, whisking, and
blending. In this experiment, all four methods were used to determine which mixing method produced
the most milk fat or butter. First of all, in order to understand the making of butter, one must be
familiar with milk and its composition. The components of milk include 87% water, 4% fat, 5% sugar
or lactose, 2.6% casein, .7% albumen, and .7% ash (Ross, 1914). Milk is an emulsion, which is a type
of colloid. A colloid is a homogenous mixture in which large molecules are suspended throughout
another substance. Under this category, there are also two types of emulsions: oil droplets in water or
water droplets in oil (BBC, 2014). Milk is an example of an emulsion of evenly distributed fat
particles throughout water. In this experiment, heavy cream was used because it contains a greater
concentration of fat particles in water. However, in order to keep the particles from separating,
emulsifiers are needed to stabilize the mixture (Institute of Food

Quito Tectonics
Ecuador s large number of earthquakes is due to their location relative to other countries. In general,
the grinding of tectonic plates happens constantly (one beneath the other) and sometimes they get
stuck but keep moving. This causes the buildup of tension. When the plates finally break free, it
results in an earthquake.
One example is the location of Ecuador s capital, Quito. Quito lies on a fault line. When these fault
lines are displaced it is similar to a domino effect and can create breaks in other parts of the tectonic
plates. Tectonic plates are gigantic, irregular in size and shape, chunks of rock that lie beneath earth s
surface. The movement of these plates and the buildup over time results in the earthquakes we hear
about. Also,

  • 2. Facial Symmetry and Physical Attractiveness Literature on the topic of attractiveness is very extensive. The human face is something that catches every ones attention and more over the scientists as well the psychologists are interested in analyzing the ability of humans to extract information of the others. Several factors and features are associated with attractiveness. Some examples include facial symmetry, skin color, facial traits, clear skin and health of facial skin. It is hypothesized that facial symmetry is an important factors in measuring physical attractiveness. Different features may be perceived as attractive by different people. Biologists believed that facial symmetry should be attractive because it may signal mate quality. Rhodes, Proffit, Grady and Sumich (1998) manipulated the symmetry to figure out the effect on attractiveness. 4 versions of a picture were created. One was perfectly symmetric, the others were a highly symmetric version, normal level of symmetry and a low symmetric version.64 subjects rated these faces. The results clearly stated that perfect symmetry was significantly more attractive and low symmetry faces were unattractive, more over the males found the perfect symmetric faces more appealing as potential life partners, so facial symmetry does play a role in mate selection. In the second experiment the authors compared the attractiveness of faces at three symmetry levels. These were normal, high and perfect. The subjects were shown two versions of the same face at different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Sociocultural Perspective On Human Behavior And... Have you ever wondered why do we do things that we do? Why do we act in a certain way? What compels us to follow a path or formulate habits? One perspective among many others is the sociocultural perspective. A sociocultural perspective is an approach to understand why humans behave the way they do. It seeks to understand human behavior and personality development by examining the influence of rules of social groups on individuals who are members of those social groups. Sociocultural approach is an emerging topic that looks at the important contributions that society makes to an individual. The sociocultural approach is based on the assumption that our personalities, beliefs, attitudes and skills are learned from others. It refers to a point of view that is built upon the idea that society and culture are major factors that influence personalities. This approach believes that people are heavily influenced by their social environment. What makes and defines us as individuals is the application of sociocultural approach. For example, if you look outside the window and see a man talking to a tree, what conclusions will you draw? You may think the man is a lunatic and needs some kind of medication. But would your opinion change if you knew that the man was Native American and Native Americans believe in a spiritual philosophy that trees can speak if you listen to them. So you see, the context of culture makes a huge difference in how you ascertain someone s behavior and that s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also, eventually both groups did get what they demanded in the change of government. Lastly, both of the revolutions included many protests. An example from each would be the Egyptian citizens boycotting the the election and not voting, and the colonist tossing a ton of tea overboard into the ocean so it could not be bought and the government would not get the money from the taxes, which is called the Boston Tea Party. • 5. Clarkson Tahlon Case The TCO approach allows Troon management to refresh its hardware at the optimal cost level by determining the operational life expectancy of the IT items. By looking at the direct and indirect costs of each IT hardware and software item, along with the benefits that are related to it, management used their analysis to get the best price and depreciated value for each item. This analysis allows them to figure the most cost effective way to handle maintenance and replacement of all it components and in turn, minimize expenses. In my opinion, Troon s IT expenses were spiraling out of control when they did not take the maintenance and upgrade costs into account when doing their original spending analysis. • 6. Wang Gender Roles The Chinese film, The King of Masks (Tianming, 1996), is representative of the type of film that embodies the traditional ideals of China. The story takes place in the 1930s, during which girls in China were not highly valued or respected. Evidence of gender discrimination can be seen throughout the film, particularly when families give daughters away for free while sons are valued higher. The preference for sons over daughters is deeply intertwined with Chinese society as even early Confucian teachings foster gender discrimination (Jiang, 234). While the film presents itself as a story of love during harsh times, as portrayed through the development of the master apprentice relationship between Doggie and Wang, it also comments on the social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After purchasing Doggie, whom he presumed was a boy, Wang s expressions lighten up as he can pass on his secret skill to him. This changes when he discovers that Doggie is a girl. Wang s anger and disgust at Doggie provokes the audience to feel a sense of sadness and unfairness for Doggie. As a result, Doggie is no longer considered worthy to learn the secret skill of bian lian from Wang. However, Doggie eventually wins Wang s affection and they both attend Master Liang s performance of attaining Nirvana. It is during the opera that Doggie sees the Bodhisattva sacrificing herself to save her father, a foreshadowing of what is to come. Tianming is able to illustrate the symbolic importance of the Bodhisattva and the hope of redemption in which she embodies through Doggie s act. Her determination to save Wang sets the scene for her to mimic the Bodhisattva and throw herself off the building. In contrast to the sadness and suffering Doggie has endured, she represents the goodness of humanity and establishes women s strength and necessity in society. Through this scene, Doggie has symbolically reached Nirvana and rekindles her relationship with Wang, who realizes that Doggie is more valuable than the son he wishes to ... • 8. Mesmer Magnetism Essay According to German physician, Franz Anton Mesmer, the entire universe is connected by an invisible thing know as animal magnetism. Mesmer believed that the entire human body was filled with this magnetism and that it was carried through the body in a constant flow. Illnesses occur as the result of the flow of magnetism becoming blocked off. Mesmer was able to cure his patients through several appointments. Soon, high powered, influential members of society began to investigate Mesmer s practices, this committee was called the Royal Commission. In order for Mesmer to cure his patients he would sit opposite of them and would touch their finger and knees, he would also look into the afflicted person s eyes (typically unmarried, rich, young ladies). After several appointments with Mesmer the patients would experience a crisis and would be miraculously cured. Mesmer first started curing his patients in one on one appointments, but soon he began to train others in this art, these male understudies of Mesmer were called adepts. • 9. Comparison Of Faith And The Ethics Of Belief Some people believe that there is an existing conflict between faith and reason, but not all. This is not limited only to those who identify as religious nor does it apply strictly to those who deny the existence of God. As written in the Bible, We are to have good reason for what we believe, and we are to be always ready to share that reason with other people (1 Peter 3:15). The argument of faith and reason is seen in numerous philosophical writings such as Blaise Pascal s Faith is a Logical Bet or W.K. Clifford s The Ethics of Belief. In both we find strengths and weaknesses which defend their individual beliefs based on reasoning and logical thinking. Clifford s The Ethics of Belief, Clifford offers an argument which differs from Pascal s argument. In The Ethics of Belief, Clifford argues that simply having belief in a Theistic God is unethical without having sufficient evidence to support ones belief. This argument does not focus solely on faith but it demands that reason be included in the decision to believe in anything not just in deciding whether a Theistic God does in fact exist or not. Clifford begins his argument telling a story about a ship owner who was about to send his emigrant ship to sea knowing the ship was old and not in the best shape as it once had been. Even though it had been suggested to the owner that the ship was not seaworthy, the doubts were not enough for the owner to have the ship inspected and repaired if necessary. Instead, the ship owner make the decision to set aside all doubts without having sufficient evidence to do so, he allowed the ship to set sail. In the end, the ship did not make the voyage, all those aboard were killed, and the ship owner collected the insurance money when for the ship (Clifford). As an outsider looking in, the ship owners decision to ignore previous suggestion to inspect and repair the ship was unethical. As the owner it was his responsibility to ensure safety and a successful voyage. Of course unexpected situations, issues, and events could have resulted in the same outcome of the passengers losing their lives, however, this was not the case. From the ... Even then, there is no guarantee that an individual will lead a happy, well to do life. As society grows and matures, human civilization will come to accept that volunteering is a necessity. If no one in our communities volunteered, there will be too many people that lead lives of poverty and envy. However, the more that people volunteer, the less amount of people in our communities will struggle in their lives. Whenever people obtain aid in their lives, they are more likely to reciprocate that help later in time. The more aid a person receives, the more opportunities they have to lead a better life in the future. If everyone helped one another in any form or fashion, life would be much better as we know it. We, as a human civilization, have seen repeatedly that people who have lived through hard times are more likely to give back to their communities if they have better lives later on. Williams The Gothic genre delves into the depths of humanity, where the presence of the horrible and the macabre represent the dark side of human nature. Indeed, according to M. H. Abrams, Gothic novelists invited fiction to the realm of the irrational and of the perverse impulses and nightmarish terrors that lie beneath the orderly surface of the civilized mind (111). In such works, unnatural desires and forbidden excesses that are buried and secret in the functioning self, become the monsters lurching around in Gothic lore. People in the United States eat around 120 chocolate bars each year. But would you still enjoy eating that chocolate bar if you knew that the chocolate that is used to make those delicious bars comes from the forced labor of young children? Chocolate is made from cacao beans that grow in tropical places like West Africa. The countries in West Africa supply more than 70 percent of the world s cocoa. They sell the cocoa they grow and harvest to many of the chocolate companies who make our chocolate candy bars. In recent years, news reporters, as well as human rights organizations around the world, have discovered that there is widespread child slavery for growing and harvesting cocoa beans on cocoa farms in West Africa. As chocolate has gotten more popular around the world, so has the demand for cheap cocoa. Many cocoa farmers earn less than $2 per day. To help keep the cost of cocoa low, they use children as workers. The children living in West Africa are very poor. Some of these children go to work on cocoa farms because their desperately poor families need them to earn money. Other children are taken against their will from small villages and sold to cocoa farm owners. These children work 80 to 100 hours a week. They are not paid. They do not go to school. Frame narrative, or stories within a story, exist prevalently within the epic genre, but persist throughout this transition, generally preserving structure, but mutating in function. I implemented my tactics by leveraging the strengths available that chain and tires are good. She immediately pointed out some dust on the bike and referred that it is not well maintained. I changed buyer s perception by highlighting differences between well maintained vs clean bikes, a tactic to change the frame managing misperceptions and cognitive biases (Lewicki, Saunders, Barry, 2011, p. 128) I set the anchor to sell at $60 as and she pushed the anchor to $45 ensuring the deal was on. I could bargain anything better than my resistance point. I pushed for $55 banking on solid condition of chain and wheels. At the same time seller was using few rusted components as her defense to push the price to $45. I tried to manage seller s impression by suggesting the rusting is due to humidity in college station and not due to ignoring the bike in the rain. At this time I have shifted the discussion to delivery date. Ideally I would like to deliver it in June, but she pressed on receiving the bike now, as she would need it to make trips to the library and labs during odd hours. I identified that her resistance point was delivery date. If I do not deliver it now she might close the negotiation hence I agreed to deliver immediately after sale. At this time she noticed two locks on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Persuasive Essay On Open Campus Schools across the nation are debating over the issue in whether high school students should be allowed to leave their campus during their lunch period or remain on school grounds. Students need an open campus lunch policy to give them the freedom they deserve. Many could argue that an open campus creates drama and destruction, but more good comes than the bad. Responsibility, staffing, and local businesses all contribute to the successes of having an open campus lunch. High school students sit in class all day isolated to the confined space of the school property. They need and deserve a little time to escape. Having an open campus lunch stimulates the economy. Kids are great spenders, especially on food. According to FONA International s 2014 Trend Insight Report, teens spend around 18% of their money on food ( U.S. Teens Spend... 1). This means that they hog much of the market when it comes to fast food. One local business owner, Dick Hood, runs a sub shop right across from the high school at Round Rock. He admitted that closing the campus would cause him to lose business (Schroeter 1). The location of restaurants nearby helps to keep the students close enough to the school and allows for them to walk or bike versus driving. In New York, students gather at the Vestal Bakery and Deli. Here, the deli serves many students from Vestal High School and relies on the business from the lunch rush that they provide (Basler 1). With the business of the students they are able to hire more employees therefore helping the economy. Rachel Kirkpatrick also contributes to the fast casual eateries in her area. Some days her and her friends would go into town and eat at their local bagel shop or Chipotle. When it was warm outside they would picnic on the school s lawn (Marszalek 1). In addition, one school that is on the edge with deciding what to do is weighing out the pros and cons. They said that having an open campus would get the students out in the community and let them support local businesses, that was a major pro (Poolman 1). In a small town, these places thrive on the younger generations money. Lisa Williams is the manager of Grecco s. On a typical day, over 30 teens come in for lunch, serving them over 200 ... • 37. Explain How Do Various Mixing Methods Affect The... Title: How do various mixing methods affect the production of milk fat? Purpose The purpose of the experiment was to determine which method of agitation, either shaking, stirring, whisking, or blending, produced the largest mass of milk fat. Background Information Producing butter is a task that can easily be done at home. Butter is one of the most highly concentrated forms of fluid milk that is made simply by agitating heavy cream (Douma, 2008). There are several methods of agitation, including shaking, stirring, whisking, and blending. In this experiment, all four methods were used to determine which mixing method produced the most milk fat or butter. First of all, in order to understand the making of butter, one must be familiar with milk and its composition. The components of milk include 87% water, 4% fat, 5% sugar or lactose, 2.6% casein, .7% albumen, and .7% ash (Ross, 1914). Milk is an emulsion, which is a type of colloid. A colloid is a homogenous mixture in which large molecules are suspended throughout another substance. Under this category, there are also two types of emulsions: oil droplets in water or water droplets in oil (BBC, 2014). Milk is an example of an emulsion of evenly distributed fat particles throughout water. In this experiment, heavy cream was used because it contains a greater concentration of fat particles in water. However, in order to keep the particles from separating, emulsifiers are needed to stabilize the mixture (Institute of Food ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Quito Tectonics Ecuador s large number of earthquakes is due to their location relative to other countries. In general, the grinding of tectonic plates happens constantly (one beneath the other) and sometimes they get stuck but keep moving. This causes the buildup of tension. When the plates finally break free, it results in an earthquake. One example is the location of Ecuador s capital, Quito. Quito lies on a fault line. When these fault lines are displaced it is similar to a domino effect and can create breaks in other parts of the tectonic plates. Tectonic plates are gigantic, irregular in size and shape, chunks of rock that lie beneath earth s surface. The movement of these plates and the buildup over time results in the earthquakes we hear about. Also, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
