1999 Baseball Umpires Resignation
The Major League Umpires Association (MLUA) was the union that represented Major League
Umpires from 1970 to 1999. The MLUA ended up being decertified and replaced by the World
Umpires Association (WUA) when Richie Phillips, the head of the MLUA since 1978 and known
for his combative, antagonistic style, announced in July 1999 that 57 of the league s 66 MLUA
members would submit resignations effective September 2nd. Richie Phillips assumption that the
threat of the resignation of the umpires would force the Major League Baseball(MLB) back to the
negotiating table to sign a new contract was erroneous and the scheme led to disastrous results for
22 of the umpires who handed in their resignations and had them accepted. In the end 11 umpires
never got their jobs back and went on to retirement or other jobs.
The MLUA umpires had struck several times in previous years (1979, 1984 and 1991) and had
been locked out for the first days of the start of the 1995 baseball season under Richie Phillips
tutorage. Each of these previous work stoppages had worked out in the umpires favor; they
enjoyed huge increases in their pay scale, more job security, and better vacations. The MLB and
MLUA always had caustic labor relations and tensions were soaring in the summer of 1999 as the
MLUA s five year labor agreement was entering its final year. The MLUA had great concerns with
some major changes proposed by the MLB to the strike zone, umpire evaluations and staff
consolidation but were

Analysis Of RFP For ATM Monitoring
A judgement call that I made which did not allow for analysis or information gathering due to
time constraints was when a large Southern Financial institution that I was leading Distributed
Service Delivery for put out a large RFP for ATM monitoring; they had approximately 3600
ATMs all being serviced and monitored by Diebold, as the Program Manager over this account
all RFPs ran through me. I pulled in what experts we had on ATM monitoring to provide a
thorough response document, it was assumed throughout my company that we were likely being
used solely for leverage with Diebold more so than having a chance at this business. We were told
within a couple weeks that Diebold was being awarded the bid so I stopped our internal evaluations

I had a Team responsible for Monitoring and Managementof thousands of endpoint network
devices for this customer in an offsite location with desks available. Connectivity to the ATMs was
quickly available due to already having connectivity within the customers network, I just needed
resources and training. I had daily scrum type calls with Recruiting to track progress, make sure
interviews could get quickly setup, and knock down any blockers slowing them down.
Recruiting stepped up and sourced 5 of the 7 resources within three weeks and my RIMM Team
with the addition of these 5 resources and the shadowing from the customers tier 3 engineers
were able to successfully come up to speed and deliver on this new service. I had a complete team
of 7 resources before the end of the first 30 days.
This became a great win for Pomeroy and for the Customer. For the Customer, we were offering
a tier 2 level Service at a tier 3 three price point, well under their original T1 provider in this
space. We were able to deliver through my Team the quality and speed that they wanted in
responding to alerts and issues, with an expanded Team being able to share the work across my

Examples Of Non Traditional Families In The Bean Trees
Miles Cruger 11/7/2017 ALA Pd. 7
Non Traditional Families in
The Bean Trees
Families come in many forms, and family may not be considered traditional can still have a deep
seated relationship, much of the time more so than traditional families. Barbara Kingsolver s novel
The Bean Trees makes non traditional families very prevalent, showing their supportive and
functional nature. A traditional familyis a family that has a mother, father, and children, whereas a
non traditional family varies from that set. Barbara shows the reader that non traditional families
can function and support the members of the family just as well, if not better than traditional
families. Alice and Taylor have a tight knit and close relationship, one that is supportive at its
nature. Alice has supported Taylor is so many ways throughout her lifetime. On page 2, we are
told that When Taylor was a young child, she would catch small fish, and Alice would act like it
was huge, and cook them up for dinner. This is a great example of how they support each other.
Without anyone else, Alice is boosting Taylor s self confidence, and supporting her, arguably better
than traditional families, like all mothers should. They function like most families, even though all
they have is each other. On page 5, Alice consoles Taylor on techniques for getting the job at the
hospital. This

General George Washington And His Continental Army Had
General George Washington and his Continental Army had just defeated the English Army. In 1776,
the founding fathers of the United States of America signed the Declaration of Independence,
according to ushistory.org 60 delegates signed the document that granted the country we know
today as the United States free from British rule. Some of the men that inked their name into
American history were Thomas Jefferson. Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and John Hancock.
From that point on the United States was an independent nation. Being an independent nation
means the founding fathers had to establish all the characteristics of a successful country, several
example include: government, economic system, laws, etc. It is evident that a country cannot...

Now let s take a look at each of the amendments and determine the exact reason why our founding
fathers inserted them into our Constitution.
The first amendment of the United States states Congress shall make no law respecting an
establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of
speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the
government for a redress of grievances (Bill of Rights Institute). In simpler words this
amendments means that any citizen may practice any religion that he or she identifies as their
faith. It also grants all citizens the right to free speech. Free speech means that an individual can
say whatever they wish, without any restrictions, even if the words are inappropriate, disrespect
any political leader or disrespect the government itself. We have a right to say what we desire. The
first amendment along with granting the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion, allows
freedom of press. This allows the press the ability to publish what they desire, even if it is absurd or
incorrect. The second amendment of the United States Constitution states A well regulated militia,
being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall
not be infringed (Bill of Rights Institute). The second amendment grants

Essay on Sociological Perspectives to Understand Society
WITH REFERENCE TO THE RANGE OF SOCIOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVES, EXPLAIN HOW
SOCIOLOGISTS ATTEMPT TO UNDERSTAND SOCIETY.
The main aim of sociology is to seek an understanding or explanation as to how society functions or
operates. There are numerous sociological theories, some dating back as early as the 19th century,
these include Structural and Marxist Functionalism and Social Action theories. Throughout the
years these perspectives have gradually been modernised due to the changes that have occurred in
society. In this assignment I shall be looking at the key theories of the more notable exponents of
the different sociological perspectives from pre industrialisation times to the modern age and their
interpretation of how society works.

Also he believed that society should be studied from a scientific objective. He argued that sociology
should be based on the methodology of natural science and claimed that this would result in
positive science of society. (Giddens 1997)
Talcott Parsons was an American sociologist whose main contribution was to add to the view of
society the notion that functional relationships within and between institutions contributed to
harmony in the system thus society involves at least a level of integration between the parts.
Parsons stated that the central value of the system of a society provides the basic glue that shapes
and holds the society together and therefore provides the base for integration. He continued in
saying that members of society share the same goals, thus persons may have different roles and
perform different functions, but once they all agree on the values that underpin the goal to be
attained, they are likely to have equal commitment to attain the common goal. (Baert, Carreira da
Silva 2010) According to Parsons, society is based on a value consensus, which is a set of agreed
goals, values and roles that standardise and determine behaviour. This value consensus is
established and maintained within the institutions of society. Society is therefore a system and has
to meet certain

Antigovernment Statements through Painting
While Van Gogh shut himself off from the world first, in rural Provence, and second, in an
asylum in Saint Remy, other artists have used their celebrity to draw attention to contemporary
political events, and to speak out against, and challenge the establishment. As mentioned above,
Warhol had made art from newspaper headlines, thus drawing attention to contemporary politics
on race in America. However, among the best known of such anti governmental statements is
Picasso s painting Guernica, which represents a passionate attack on Spain s fascist government
by the Spanish artist living in Paris. It portrays a scene of the German bombing, in 1937, of
Guernica, the Basque capital of Northern Spain, during the Spanish civil war, and became a
universal symbol of the atrocity of war. The scene is set within a room where, at an open end on
the left, a bull flails its tail as it stands over a woman grieving over the dead child in her arms.
The subjects in this painting are shown as innocent and helpless. The centre is occupied by a
horse, which falls in agony as it had just been run through by a spear or javelin. The large gaping
wound in its side is a major focus of the painting, reinforced by the human skull which overlays
the horse s body. On the open palm of the dead soldier in the foreground is a stigmata, a symbol
of martyrdom derived from a stigmata of Christ. A light bulb blazes in the shape of an evil eye
over the suffering horse s head, reminiscent of the bare bulb

The Abuse Of Delia In Sweat By Zora Hurston
Due to the abuse that Delia suffers in the short story Sweat by Zora Hurston, she becomes
stronger and gains independence. Sykes is a overcontrolling husband and frequently abuses Delia
throughout their marriage. He does this in several different ways. First is verbal, he is always
yelling and at Delia and never has anything nice to say. Along with a general rudeness toward her
he makes threats to her, saying things such as, Ah oughter mash you in yo mouf fuh drawing dat
skillet on me (Hurston 3). This threatening manner eventually stops working as she grew numb to
his threats after fifteen years of marriage. So, in response to her numbness he escalates his abuse by
physically assaulting her. The third way he torments his wifeis psychologically... Show more

Her strength is a mental strength and she is stronger than most. Although Sykes is able to
physically abuse her and stoops to lows such as abuse she still fights back. This is surprising as
women during this time were expected to be completely submissive and obey their husband s
command. Instead she ignores him since she knows that she is the dominant one. Even the men
at the shop recognize that she is the provider in the family and that Sykes is an abuser. They also
recognize the effect the abuse had on her and her appearance. They say the women Never wuz
de same in de mind (Hurston 4). They also say Delia wuz ez pretty ez a speckled pup (Hurston

abuse from her husband she grows stronger because of it. She does this by simply getting used to
it. This is why he keeps changing his ways of abuse, because she has over come them and has
become numb to them. Eventually everything will reach a boiling point where there is no

The Amboyna Massacre And The Dutch East India Company
The Amboyna Massacre occurred in 1623 on the island of Ambon in present day Indonesia where
twenty men were executed on the accusation of treason by the hands of the Dutch East India
Company. Ten of these men were members of English East India Company who were trading at a
post belonging to the Dutch East India Company. The Amboyna Massacre would result in an
intensifying feud between the English and the Dutch, and would be a symbol for growing
European power throughout the world. The Indies and more specifically Ambon Island would be
the stage for this massacre by the Dutch East India Company. What is more important than this is
exactly what the Indies had to offer for both companies at the time. In short, the answers are trade...

The Dutch may have very well looked for spices in Portuguese land as a form of retribution for
embargoing the Dutch. The Dutch may have also looked in Portuguese land because they
thought it was not as well as defended or it had easier shipping routes. All three of these reasons
were the potential thought process going through minds of the Dutch rulers at the time. Nearly
seven years after the Spanish had embargoed trade between the Dutch and the Portuguese,
Steven van der Hagen conquered the fortress Victoria at Amboyna. This fortress had previously
been a trade center for the Portuguese spice trade, but after it was captured by Steven van der
Hagen in 1605, the spice trade once again resumed. Once the Dutch had captured fort Victoria,
they began to attempt to set up a local monopsony. To set up a monopsony, all trade competitors
had to be removed and there could only be one buyer for all of the spice sellers. It was quite
evident when the Dutch East India Company captured the fort that setting up a monopsony would
be quite difficult especially when considering other major competitors such as the East India
Company. The only way this would be possible was by force which is where the rift and future
rivalry began between the two companies. At this same very time the East India Company had just
been formed in 1600 after multiple

Disadvantages of Biofuel Production
According to this article written by David Pimentel, Alison Marklein, Megan A. Toth, Marissa N.
Karpoff, Gillian S. Paul, Robert McCormack, Joanna Kyriazis, and Tim Krueger, the production of
biofuels is not only energetically wasteful in most circumstances, but it is also causing food
shortages throughout the world. By creating biofuels throughout United States, we are not only
using up valuable farmlands, but we are actually becoming more dependent upon foreign oil.
Throughout this article several statistics are given to show how energetically unfavorable the
production of biofuels really is. Not only does the production of biofuels require huge amounts of
resources like water, cropland, and chemical fertilizers, but in many cases it also consumes more
net energy in fossil fuels than it produces in alternative energy resources. Some examples of biofuel
production throughout the world include biomass resources, corn ethanol, grass and cellulosic
ethanol, soybean biodiesel, and algae for oil production.
Renewable biomass resources on planet Earth amount to nearly 92 quads or 19% of the global
energy use per year. One quad is equal to 1 quadrillion or 1015 BTU s. To place this into
perspective, a little over 1,000 BTU s are in a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The majority of
these biomass resources come from wood harvested from forests throughout the world. Included in
this biomass calculation is the total forest biomass production that yields 38 quads or 8% of the

Goal Vs. Team Goals For Older Athletes
It is difficult to say which goal is more important. I think it is very dependent on the age of the
athletes. I think for younger athletes who are still learning, the more important goal should be for
personal achievement in development, success, performance, and behavior. The team goals should
be acknowledged, but the goals should be within the abilities of the athletes. For older athletes in a
more professional setting, I think the overall goalfor the team should be the main focus. Again,
with personal goals not falling to the side, but with a main focus on team goals. If I had to give up
one to achieve the other, I think letting go of the team goals for athletes personal success is more
important. Again, this has to do with the team goal

Sickle Cell Anemia Disease
What is Sickle Cell Anemia Disease?
Sickle Cell Anemia Disease is an inherited disease that turns healthy red blood cells (donut
shape) into abnormal sickle shaped red cells which affects people s hemoglobin (a red protein
responsible for transporting oxygen in the blood) (Naoum). This disease gets its name from the
shape of red blood cells under low oxygen condensation which becomes sickle shaped. These
sickle shaped cells get stuck in small blood vessels which causes people with this disease to have
oxygen blockage (fudge foundation). People inherit this disease from their parents, if both parents

sickle hemoglobin. The amount of hemoglobin determines if a person has a sickle cell trait or
sickle cell disease (WebMD). If they do not have abnormal sickle hemoglobin they neither have
a sickle cell trait or disease. People who are affected by Sickle Cell Anemia crises (pain in your
bones) go through a lot of pain. They normally have chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe
infections and blood blockage. People who have Sickle Cell describe their pain in differently,
Tiffany who has Sickle Cells said, it s like repeatedly being stabbed by a butcher knife in the
same spot. Another lady Heather said. Her pain feels like someone is pouring glass in the same
spot into her veins and expecting her to keep living normal. Patients with this disease go through a
lot of pain and are not able to do anything about it because there are no cures for it. Pharmacist just
have medicine to manage their pain. Patients go to therapy, take vitamins, and get blood

Audrey Hepburn Research Paper Outline
Love. Beauty. Poise. These are all words that make me think of Audrey Hepburn. Her whole life
she was deprived of love from the people she most needed it from. Every part of Audrey needed
to give love, and for the rest of her life that s exactly what she did. Audrey Kathleen Ruston was
born May 4, 1929 in Brussels, Belgium. She was born to Ella the Baroness Van Heemstra Ruston
and Joseph Ruston. (Enchantment: The Life of Audrey Hepburn pg.5 paragraph 2 and pg.7

How Can Ninja Turtles Be Considered A Group
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would be considered a group. According to the organizational
behavior text groups are a collection of individuals who interact with each other such that one
person s actions have an impact on the others (Bauer, T., Erdogan, B.) (2010)(pg.205). The ninja
turtles consist of a quartet of mutated humanoid turtles who use their ninja skills to fight crime.
The names of the four turtles are Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello. Leonardo is
the tactical and courageous leader. Leo is the most authoritative of the four so he often takes it
upon himself to be responsible for his brothers.Michelangelo is the most stereotypical of the team.

Miscommunication can cause unwanted and unnecessary troubles. The organizational behavior text
mentions an interested fact: data suggest that deficient interpersonal communication was a causal
factor in approximately 70% to 80% of all accidents over the last 20 years. Taking this statement
into consideration, imagine all the unnecessary accidents that could happen with the turtles if they
did not communicate properly. Being that Leonardo is the team captain if you will, he is more
responsible for the effective communication. Poor communication can lead to more serious things
like lawsuits. Now it is not likely that a villain from this familiar comic is going to sue the turtles,
but if we put it into a real life scenario it could work. For example, Leonardo tells the group of
turtles that they need to use their ninja skills to exterminate criminal A, when in reality the group s
mission was supposed to be to exterminate criminal B and the person who put Leonardo in charge
then sues the ninja turtles for killing the wrong person. This level of miscommunication is
detrimental to any group, but especially the ninja turtles since people s lives are at risk. Moving on
from communication, norms are something that is something that

Psychological and Ethical Egoism Essay
Egoism is a teleological theory of ethics that sets the ultimate criterion of morality in some
nonmoral value (i.e. happiness or welfare) that results from acts (Pojman 276). It is contrasted
with altruism, which is the view that one s actions ought to further the interests or good of other
people, ideally to the exclusion of one s own interests (Pojman 272). This essay will explain the
relation between psychological egoism and ethical egoism. It will examine how someone who
believes in psychological egoism explains the apparent instancesof altruism. And it will discuss
some arguments in favor of universal ethical egoism, and exam Pojman s critque of arguments for
and against universal ethical egoism.

If one performs an act beneficial to others with a view to gaining affection, respect, reputation, or
any form of gratitude then it is not an altruistic act. It is in fact a selfish act because the principal
motivation was to reap some benefit for oneself. The desire of this benefit exists equally whether
it is psychological, emotional, intellectual, or material. Each form of desirable benefit is
philosophically identical as a motivation. According to the psychological egoist, in most cases,
behavior may appear as if it is altruistic, but in fact, due to the motivation behind the act, it is quite
the opposite. Instead, the act is driven by a rational and reasoned desire to benefit by following
one s own personal system of values.
Individuals instilled with a belief that serving others is their duty may, contrary to the idea of
psychological egoism , begin the habit of performing truly altruistic actions out of this sense of
duty only. Some feel that even this can be construed as self interest, because the benefit might be
the perceived avoidance of the anticipated feelings of guilt which may arise if the duty is not
fulfilled. In any case, there are those who rely on their sense of duty to direct them to what they
perceive to be virtuous behaviour. This frequently leads to resentment against those for whom they
are performing their duties. Moreover, some believe that altruist behaviour becomes an
impossibility, as people

The Decade Known as The Great Depression
The decade known as the Great Depression was an era filled with both hardship and tribulation.
Historians continue to debate the root causes of the collapse of the stock market which led the
country into depression. Other deride the ineptitude of the Canadian government s response to the

suffered through it are largely gone, the memory of those dark days remains to this day.

All the ranks on the social class had dropped. The poor became poorer than the poor. Finding
work was sporadic at best and it was impossible for men to pay for their homes which led to
people having to move into their cars, piano boxes and anything they could possibly find shelter
in. The Great Depression got farmers the worst as severe dust storms hit the prairies. Temperature
raised immensely in 1936 making wind storms hotter and drier, and with no rain there was no
crops. Western prairies became almost completely dependent on the export of wheat but grass
hoppers and plant diseases cause the last few crops destroyed. Farmers had to sell their farms as

How Does Alvarez Show Courage In The Time Of The Butterflies
In the Time of the Butterflies Essay A lot of courage is needed to revolt against a dictator and
risk one s life, and possibly other s lives for a country. In the novel, In the Time of the Butterflies,
by Julia Alvarez, Minerva Mirabal (one of 4 sisters in the story) shows a lot of courage by standing
up against her country s leader, Rafael Trujillo, and for what is right, risking her and her family s

to protect the Mirabal sisters. She will do all she can to keep them alive... ... (do) you think I ll let

she cannot save her sisters, she stayed with them, protecting them to the very end. The last we

In (Matthew 6:6 NIV), Jesus explains the merits of praying to the lord God and the reward of inner
peace, But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who
is in secret: and your father who sees in secret will reward you. It is through this conversation
with God that Christians pursue peace in their lives. Prayer can either be private or communal,
spontaneous prayer is one way that charismatic communities can come closer to God. The act of
prayer allows believers to have a personal conversation with God; it alleviates stress attributed to
the monotony of everyday life. Besides prayer, meditation is another way of attaining inner
peace, it is an ancient practice within the Christian tradition, which has undertaken a recent
revival, a global group that reaffirms the concept of praying and meditating for inner peace is

the sacred scriptures on a day to day basis and reflecting on prayers also maintain a continual
connection with God. It is vital to maintain equilibrium between prayer and service, whereby an
individual fathoms the notion ora et labora , in order to equally partake in both prayer, and the

Comparison Of King Louis XIV And Moctezuma II
King Louis XIV (The Fourteenth) and Moctezuma II (The Second) were similar in a large
variety of ways. The two rulers may have been separated by a large body of water and their lives
many years apart, but they shared characteristics in the way that they showed their power, what
type of Absolute Monarch they were. Moctezuma II was placed in power as the ruler of the
Aztecs when his uncle, Ahuitzotl, died in early 1502. While he had taken over the empire at its
highest point, it had extended all the way to Nicaragua and Honduras. Due to the resentment of
certain tribes for the religious sacrifices by the Aztecs, The Empire was weakened. King Louis
XIV s placement as the ruler of France was a complicated one, after King Henry IV s death, his...

The long list of nations that regarded France as a threat included England, Spain, and the Holy
Roman Empire. In the 1680 s, they formed an alliance with several smaller countries and formed
The Grand Alliance. Then due to a large threat to France, the war was declared, it lasted from
1688 to 1697. France had a large quantity of its territory intact. But the nation was in horrible
condition and its resources were incredibly depleted from fighting a war against seemingly
everyone else in Europe. If this wasn t bad enough for public opinion of King Louis XIV, he was
the catalyst of yet another war from 1701 1714. This war was even more disastrous, and people
started to revolt. But even then, no one could doubt the almost unstoppable military Louis had
built from the ground up. France s military had been struggling and was in shambles. Due to the
work of King Louis XIV and his war minister, Marquis de Louvois, they reorganized the army and
improved the qualification and rewards for joining. All the sudden the Army was an actual career
path that could support an entire family. Soldiers were supplied with uniforms and wages that
couldn t be turned down. Of course, this meant that taxpayer money was drastically increased.
Their military was prospering more than ever . In Moctezuma s 17 years as the

Freedom is More Valued than Security
Some tourists think Amsterdam is a city of sin, but in truth it is a city of freedom. And in
freedom, most people find sin. This might sounds like a section from a travelling guide, but it also
describes why we as a society cannot gain complete freedom. Complete Freedom requires all
negative repercussions from individual s actions to be unpunished, making it impossible to allow
any form of justice into the community, turning it into a den of criminals. Due to that, a
government with security force to help regulate rules is necessary to keep the whole country going
without breaking down. However, with great power comes great responsibilities, and most

Freedom is the ultimate luxury, a luxury every man and woman of these world lust for, even though
there is no rational reason for freedom. Some government understand why people wants freedom,
but they also desire the power and control without opposition, so instead they give partial freedom
to the people, but still retains most of the security to ensure no one can rebel against their authority.
Unfortunately for them, this is usually not the case. One example is Ukraine, the once pronounced
free country that has turned into a point of conflict and bloodshed. As stated in Radio Liberty:
Amnesty International notes worsening of human rights situation in Ukraine , Ukraine human
rights has been deteriorating starting from the election of Viktor Yanukovych in 2011, as
suppression of freedom of expression increased dramatically. Matters did not improve during the
next two years, with the opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko and two of her former political

facing violence and harassment from national group, and with national broadcasters that openly

John Bowlby And Mary Ainsworth s Attachment Theory
John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth developed the Attachment Theory. According to Bowlby,
attachment is an innate behavior that children form with their primary caregivers in order to
maximize survival in situations of distress (Bretherton, 1992). Bowlby states that the mechanisms
such as smiling, babbling, crying, and cooing encourages parents to take care of the infant and
helps parents create a secure base for the child (Ainsworth Bell, 1970). John Bowlbydeveloped four
different stages of attachment that begin during infancy (Bowlby, 1969). The first phase is the Pre
Attachment Phase (6 Weeks), in which babies are unafraid of strangers. The second phase is

Paradise Lost Predestination Essay
Predestination in Book III of Paradise Lost
Milton s purpose in Paradise Lost is nothing less than to assert eternal providence and justify the
ways of God to men a most daunting task. For Milton to succeed in his endeavour, he has to
unravel a number of theologiccal thorns that have troubled christian philosophers for centuries.
Since his epic poem is, essentially, a twelve book argument building to a logical conclusion the
justification of the ways of God to men he will necessarily have to deal with these dogmatic
problems, and, in doing so, reveal his own take on the Christian theology.
What we receive in Paradise Lost, however, is Milton s final conclusion concerning these issues; to
discover how he worked a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But what is implied by Milton s usage of the word?
God s defence in Book III can be broken into four parts:
1 Man was created free, ie. I made him just and right/Sufficient to have stood, though free to fall .
This is covered in lines 97 111;
2 It is through free will that man chose to fall, ie. ...they themselves decreed/Thir own revolt, not I
. This is covered in lines 111 119;
3 Though fallen, man shall not lose their free will, ie. I form d them free, and free they must
remain ; the notion of the non mutability of God is also contained here. This is covered in lines
120 128;
4 Using free will, and through God, man shall be saved, ie. Man therefore shall find grace [...] in
Mercy and Justice both . This is covered in lines 129 134, and thus constitutes the final part of God
s full argument and defence.
Central to the argument, though, both structurally and in terms importance, is the notion of
predestination. The other aspects of the argument man s free will, and the means by which they
shall be saved are contained within that single word, for behind it lies the entirety of the argument
that Milton lays out in Chapter IV of De Doctrina Christiana.

Analytical Essay
History of the Assembly Line
Back during the second World War, my grandma had to go into the factories to work. At that same
time, my grandpa, her husband, was over fighting in the war. She was a Rosie the Riveter and went
into the factory to work for General Motors. Sadly, she is no longer with us so everything I have
learned about her in the factory are stories that have been passed down.
General Motors at that time was making anything from tanks to ammunition casings (Carroll, n.d.).
I was unable to track down what exactly my grandma was working on but at that time she lived in
Pontiac, Michigan and many plants around there were producing a variety of different products for
the war. After... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By 1927, Ford, with the help of the assembly line, had sold about fifteen million cars worldwide.
These fifteen million cars accounted for over half of all automobiles that were sold by that time
(McKenzie, 2015). Also, in the 1920s, the assembly got a slight upgrade. The original rope and
pulley assembly lines were upgraded to mechanized conveyors. The next big upgrade to the
assembly line was in the decade of the War. This is when robots were first introduced to the
assembly lines. This was developed by the vice president of manufacture, Delmar Harder. This
was a chance to see what automation could possibly do for the line. These robots did not run
purely by themselves, the workers still played a large role. With this new found knowledge, Ford
was able to open a self regulating plant for sheet metal stamping. Continuing with the
development and improvement of the assembly line, in the 1960s, new machines were invented
that allowed for five axes of motion. These devices were called the Versatran , and were installed
a Ford factory in Ohio. But later in the decade, robots became even more complex adding another

Family System Theory And Early Childhood Practice
Edward Teyber once said, family system theory offers therapists an invaluable way of understanding
their clients strengths and problems clarifying the familial rules, roles, myths, communication
patterns, and boundary issues that defined their clients development. Also, as said in the article
Understanding Families Applying FamilySystem Theory to Early Childhood Practice that a family
system theory has a primary concept in which is that the family includes interconnected members,
and each member influences the other in predictable and occurring ways. (pg. 5).
First, based on the article read boundaries relate to limits, togetherness, and separateness, what or
who is in or out of the family (pg. 5, Walsh Giblin 1988). However, I thought that having
boundaries is important in a family because through boundaries we know when we can step into
certain areas or when can t we know. My experience in my family system theory as having
boundaries was that was that we each had an individual room, individual spaces, and trust within
our own decision. I also was able to give my own opinion but I needed to know which was the right
timing and to never step over the adult conversation.
In a family there is usually a peacemaker, a clown, a rescuer, and a victim, although there can be
many other roles as well , (pg. 7) this was said in the article that I read. I thought that role was one
of the most important on a family system theory due to that the roles in a family are

Dream Guy It s been a long day for Riley and it wasn t over yet, she still had night school. Sure, it

school to help her cousins, Angel and Mike, with their kids, was night school. Night school was
sort of a highlight though, although she enjoyed being there it was quite different that home. Riley
had friends to hang out with, was able to walk to the movies, the store or could catch a bus

she could barely hear them even though they weren t but five feet away. Thinking . . . I just want

Information systems are very costly for the initial set up, which must be updated and maintained
periodically. A backup file of the information is required in case the system crashes, and the data
cannot easily be retrieved. If incorrect information is put into the system it can cause an inaccuracy
in the data and may need manual assistance to correct. With enhanced technology, many

Commentary On Chasing Lincoln s Killer By James Swanson
Chasing Lincoln s Killer by James Swanson is a third person book about Lincoln s assassination
and the manhunt for John Wilkes Booth. In the beginning, the civil war just ended. A lot of
southern s were angry at Lincoln such as John Wilkes Booth. Booth had found conspirators to help
assassinate Abraham Lincolnand his cabinet members. Booth had a plan to kidnap Lincoln before
but it failed, so that made him furious. This plan had to be the ultimate plan. He thought about
everything. The timing had to be perfect for this one. The conflict is man vs person because it is
about Booth trying to get away from the police. Then, Lincoln, Mary Todd, Henry Rathbone and

Meaningful Quotation Paragraph:
The real hero is Abraham Lincoln and the principles for which he lived and died: freedom and
equal rights for all Americans. (Swanson 193) is an important quote in the book. This quote is
spot on. It is so true that Lincoln did the best he could and died because of what he did. He was
the one to stop the fighting so everyone could be equal. This quote is in the epilogue, so this at the
end of the story. Everything has happened. John Wilkes Boothhas been found and all the
conspirators.
4. Author s purpose:
The author s purpose is to inform the audience what actually on April 15, 1865. One example is it
informs why Abraham Lincoln couldn t die at Ford s Theatre. It is because Lincoln deserves a
proper bed to die in. The second information that the author told me was that Lincoln was the
happiest he has ever been in the office that day. 5. What I Learned:
I have learned all about Lincoln s assassination. I learned that John Wilkes Booth tried to kill
Lincoln before. I also learned about Lincoln s cabinet member and Booth s conspirators and what
they did. One main thing I learn from this book is having compassion. When Lincoln was shot,
Laura Keene an actress went up to the box held lincoln s head in her lap. To make him as
comfortable as he could be. This shows that the world had compassion in those

The Social Consequences Of Heteronormativity
As children, we are indoctrinated into the social construct of heteronormativity. Based on our
biological sex at birth, we are given blue or pink clothes, play princesses or superheroes, and are
told either, cross your legs and sit like a lady or act like a man and stop crying . As adults, we
watch movies and TV shows where the husband comes home from a long day at work to greet his
wife who has just finished making dinner. Heteronormativityrefers to those norms related to gender
and sexuality which keep in place patriarchy and compulsory heterosexuality as well as other
systems and ideologies related to power (Sharma 2009). Gay, lesbian, queer, homosexual, agender,
androgynous, bigender, bisexual, butch, femme, dyke, stud, lipstick lesbian, gender fluid; There
are a seemingly endless terministic screens used to label women who love women, but they all
come down to one meaning, we aren t normal. Even if any given terminology is a reflection of
reality, by its very nature as a terminology it is a selection of reality; and to this extent it must also
function as a deflection of reality (Burke 1968). Viewing lesbians through heteronormative gender
roles oversimplifies complex identities into false dichotomies.

two part battle took place between November 14 and November 18, 1965, at two landing zones
West of Plei Me in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam, precisely at the footstep of Chu
Pong massif, 25 kilometers west of Plei Me as part of the U.S. airmobile offensive codenamed

In cases having to do with constitutionality, the issue of the separation of church and state arises
with marked frequency. This battle, which has raged since the nation?s founding, touches the very
heart of the United States public, and pits two of the country s most important influences of public
opinion against one another. Although some material containing religious content has found its
way into many of the nation s public schools, its inclusion stems from its contextual and historical
importance, which is heavily supported by material evidence and documentation. It often results

If approved, the bill would require intelligent design to be taught alongside any evolutionary theory
in order to present an ?explanation of the origin of life that differs from Darwin?s view?.
Additionally, it would require a statement to be read that expresses doubts about Darwinist theories
(Baksa 1).
The Court is now confronted with the responsibility of determining if Dover?s proposition, and the
implications of its implementation are constitutional, or whether they would violate fundamental
personal freedoms. In order to make its decision, the court must contemplate many facets of the
issue, including: if the religious origins of intelligent design permeate the theory too strongly, if
teaching I.D. in schools would violate statutes regarding state funding for public schools, and even
if the theory provides sufficient factual scientific evidence to be taught as a scientific theory in a
school?s biology curriculum.
Case law supporting the absence of the instruction of intelligent design theory from secular, public

C.S. Lewis and The Chronicles of Narnia
C.S Lewis was a well renowned English author that has published many great works with his
most well received piece being, The Chronicles of Narnia. The tale takes place during the London
bombings of World War II. The solace for the four children in the novel is a magical wardrobe that
transports them to a world of mythical creatures, and connections are made between the Catholic
Church and this magical world. In, The Chronicles of Narnia, the author C.S. Lewis develops the
ongoing theme of redemption to a better life through Christianity. His life and other works is what

We Go Back In Time Essay
Let s go back in time... It s 2007, the iPhone is just being introduced. Before the iPhone was
released do you remember the phones that were used? Our interactions were dramatically different.
Do you remember having to click 3 or 4 times on your flip phone just to find the right letter? Do
you remember the first iPhoneand how slow it was compared to today s phones? The world was a
different place. Thanks to innovative companies like Amazon, Apple, Google, Facebook, and others
we have been able to experience things that we couldn t possibly have envisioned.
As we were introduced to new technologies and experiences we began to expect things. I believe
this is in our nature to become comfortable and used to things and take them for granted. ... Show

Who likes to wash their car? Who wants to buy their own groceries? Who wants to cook their own
food?
These companies have been able to provide services at a price that is reasonable and allows
consumers to relax and limit their stress levels. One of the main issues that can arise in this
industry is that the companies can lose sight of the customer experience. What I mean by this is
that hyper growth companies achieve growth by growing users. How do you grow users? You
focus the majority of your efforts on application development and make your platform as user
friendly as possible. This is great for those who try out the application but becomes a problem for
those who end up using it frequently. What happens when you have an issue with the car you
rented out? What about if your meal kit is missing items? What about if you have complaints about
your experience? What happens when your Uber driver gets into an accident and you are hurt?
What happens if your mechanic purchased the wrong part or can t find your address?
Typically, customers will go either to the app storeor to social media to complain if they don t
receive the level of service they expected. This is a massive problem because that is the first place
people look before downloading your application. There has to be a way to mitigate this risk

Effects Of Atlantic Slave Trade
The Atlantic slave trade was and is enormously significant. The slave trade was only one part of
the international network that shaped the world between 1450 and 1750. Not only did Europeans
break into the Indian Ocean spice trade, but American silver allowed greater participation in the
commerce of East Asia. Another big key was that fur trapping and trading changed commerce as
well as the natural environment. Europeans wanted commercial connections with Asia.
Christopher Columbus and Vasco da Gama both sought for a route to Asia. Motivation above all
was the desire for the spices in Asia, although other Eastern products were also sought after.
European civilizations just recovered from the Black Death. The national monarchies were
learning ways to govern more efficiently and effectively. During this time some cities were
becoming international trade centers. The Indian Ocean commerce was very rich and diverse. But
the Portuguese did not have goods of a quality that was any effective competition. So the
portuguese took to the sea lanes. Portuguese ships were more maneuverable than other ships, and
they also carried cannons. They established fortified bases at very key locations such as Mombasa,
Hormuz, Goa, Malacca, and Macao. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

1650, and established full colonial rule. The Philippines remained a Spanish colonial territory until

forced relocation, tax, tributes, and unpaid labor. There were periodic revolts by the Chinese

The Fourth Act of The Duchess Essay example
The Fourth Act of The Duchess The first necessity of baroque is that the audience should be
gripped, excited, moved [1] so says Ralph Berry. The fourth act of The Duchess of Malfi certainly
succeeds under all these criteria, being the dramatic crux of the play. The events that occur in the
first scene are undoubtedly crucial, but it is the characters vastly varied reactions to them that are
vitally important. Rich imagery is deeply interwoven with the fabric of play indeed, it is an
essential part of its function and the scene s proceedings are completely overshadowed by the
telling relationship between Ferdinand, Bosola and the Duchess that is explored throughout act IV,
scene i. Often, it is in the most trying... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning, Bosola sums up the Duchess conduct in response to her brother s callous
deeds in one word; nobly (l. 2). This is his first sincerely genial and positive description of
someone else in the entire play. By adding to his sentiments with generous wordage such as
majesty (l. 6), loveliness (l. 7) and perfect (l. 8), Bosola demonstrates how much he has changed.
No longer is his sole purpose the furthering of his own position by any means, with a complete
disregard of the consequences toward others, but now, an awakening of conscience and ethics has
happened, and Bosola is capable of telling the truth and not using every opportunity for
manipulation. This is a seemingly effortless personality shift, yet one is left to wonder as to the
extent of the unseen torment and wrestling as Bosola s compassion starts to shine through. Still
ambivalence and ambiguity remain and, when the false corpses of the Duchess family are
revealed, it is possible to speculate as to whether there is any degree of divided loyalty. Bosola
may be torn between his commitment to himself in his contract to Ferdinand and the altruistic
approach of telling the Duchess, who has helped him learn to feel empathy, the truth. This time, he
defies his emotions to do what he has been ordered, and allows his common sense to lead to familiar

Technology and the American Dream
Technology and The American Dream
The idea that no matter where you start in life you have opportunity to work hard and gain
prosperity and success, is also known as the American Dream. Which nowadays seems to be an
almost dying if not already totally dead concept. Something seen only in fairy tales and movies
and not really so much in real life. In these days and times it seems as though it does not matter
how hard you work, but rather the people you know, that decide whether you will have the
opportunity to be successful or not. But if you are just an everyday person how exactly are you
supposed to go about making those connections with people that really matter? The ones that can
really help you? It almost seems like if you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Groundwater Of California Is A Serious Policy Matter
The groundwater of California is a serious policy matter in legislation. If there is drought, such as
years like this, then management is necessary because it may encourage more pumping to supplant
the water not gathered from other resources. Groundwater can account for as much as 35% of all
the water used by California (cite). Unfortunately, there are not many laws established to regulate
groundwater. The basins can replenish if they are pumped on a limited basis during normal or peak
years. Luckily, proposals have been brought forth to help regulate ground water basins to insure
their use is efficient and does not harm the environment.

There are some proposals that are favorites to be pushed through legislation that can help start the
process of managing our groundwater usage.
The local agriculture groups do not want the state to manage the groundwater based on their
management of the surface water (cite). So far, all the proposed plans have the local entities being
in charge of their groundwater. Governor Brown has proposed his Water Action Plan , which is a
series of actions that the local entities should perform. Another significant proposal is bill SB
1168, which is making its rounds in legislation and is authored by Senator Pavley. Each plan has its
own merits that will be explored.
Governor Brown s Water Action Plan is very clear and concise plan for the local governments to
follow when managing the groundwater. The plan has a clear definition of the challenges that are
present for the use water. There is a brief overview of the challenges and how the plan will address
the issues. The first proposed a plan is for the administration to increase the funding and expand the
California Statewide Groundwater Elevation Monitoring Program, which provides essential data to
characterize the state s groundwater basins, including identifying basins in decline (cite). This will
open lines of communication between counties, and share valuable information for development
the pumping plans. Next, there is the plan for Brown s administration to work closely together with

Low Fuel Cost
Prior to the decline of fuel prices, I had always thought there was not enough being done here in
American to contribute to the production of oil. Until now, fuel prices were astronomical.
Americans were having to plan out their route and car pool due to excessive prices. Unnecessary
trips was not an option.
In 2012, gas reached more than $3.50 per gallon. Today, gas averages have remained around
$2.50. What I found most compelling about the pros is with every penny decline, a billion
dollars is returned to customers. It is completely astonishing that one cent can have such an
enormous impact. Because of the production of oil in America, low fuel cost have allowed
Americans to save money and take much needed vacations. Whether traveling by vehicle or
plane, we are all much happier when we get behind the wheels of our vehicles or on a plan due to
low fuel costs. On average, households are saving over $700 per year and even more if there are
multiple vehicles. Americans were long overdue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
States such as Alaska and North Dakota are negatively affected by the cost of low fuel. Being
huge oil producing states, a prolonged decrease in oil prices can have a heavy duty affect
resulting in more layoffs, which brings me to the point that not every individual benefit from low
fuel prices. When the cost of fuel is low, as it has been the last couple of years, more individuals
who work in the oil and gas industry will continue to lose their jobs. With more than 100, 000 out
of work, low fuel prices are not doing our unemployment rate any favors. Even though fracking has
contributed to the increase in production of oil in the United States, many believe it has greatly
contributed to the significant increase in earthquakes. Despite the fact that has not been proven, if
one looks at the logistics of fracking, it is quite obvious there must be a relationship between the

Learning Goals For Students Is A Taxing Task, But It Is...
Planning a curriculum that meets the need of students can be a taxing task, but it is necessary for
student success. Creating a cohesive unit entails breaking down the standards and developing
essential questions that will drive student learning and understanding. In addition to breaking down
the standards, it is important to set clearlearninggoals for students so they are able to accomplish
the learning set in the standards. The best way to set clear learning goals for students is to use the
Backwards Planning Model and be clear on the standards that will be taught. Carol Ann Tomlinson
and Jay McTighe (2006) believe the deliberate use of the backward design for planning courses,
units, and individual lessons results in more appropriate assessments and more purposeful teaching
(p. 27). When we as teachers know where our students are going, we can convey that information to
them in a way that meets their learning needs. A clear understanding of the standards brought on by
backwards planning will lead to clear learning goals for students.
Importance of Identifying and Communicating Learning Goals In order for students to gain the
learning needed to be successful in the classroom, learning goals must be translated in a way that is
clear and transferable. Students learn best when they know where they are going. McTighe (2010)
explains the most successful teaching begins with clarity about important learning outcomes and
about the evidence that will show

Education is the most powerful weapon

Although Reading Lolita in Tehran is classified as a memoir which by definition is a special kind
of autobiography, usually involving a public portion of the author s life as it relates to a person,

Secularization: Historically, Iranian society had strong religious sentiments. So, in Iranian
society, any attempt to change the traditional life style or removal of religious aspects
from public life was opposed by religious establishments. Similar to the nationalization
attempt, Reza Shah tried to incorporate new ideologies and notions over old customs and
traditions. While doing so he also introduced his personality cult.
Another measure to promote secularization, and also depower the clergy was the abolishment of
veiling. By this attempt shah was aiming to enlist woman into the education and labor market.
Westernization: The westernization of the education system was targeted for the higher levels of
education. It had two interrelated aspects. First expanding the modern education system
nationwide and the opening of modern schools. Second was the veneration of west in those new
schools. The westernization of the education system included exporting scientific and technologic
developments of west which consequently brought western cultural values and social structures.
An example of this was the emancipation of women in academia and economic life. They had
been subjected to westernization similar to secularization. Shah managed to incorporate them
into the educational environment.

The Great Chilean Earthquake On Chile
Earthquakes throughout the world have devastated certain areas of the world, some places more
than others. One area of the world that has been absolutely devastated by many earthquakes
throughout time is the South American country, Chile. While there have been many very
substantial earthquakes in Chile, one stands out most, The Great Chilean Earthquake. On May 22,
1960, The Great Chilean Earthquake hit Chile. This is the largest earthquake ever recorded with a
magnitude of 9.5 out of 10.0. It absolutely traumatized the country of Chile and surrounding areas.
Just the earthquake itself wasn t the only thing doing damage, the quake caused monstrous
tsunamis across the coast of Chile and it even caused tsunamis in Hawaii, Japan, and the
Philippines. For an earthquake to not only cause mass destruction to the area of the quake, but to
strongly affect other places, just goes to show how powerful The Great Chilean Earthquake was.
Not only has Chile have to deal with this great earthquake, Chile has been hit with almost 30 8.0
earthquake throughout time that we know of. Chile also has 2 of the top 10 biggest earthquakes
ever recorded. The Great Chilean Earthquake and the the amount of big earthquakes Chile has to
deal with, definitely affects how the Chilean people live everyday, they have to live in fear that the
next Big One could devastate their country again.
The Great Chilean Earthquake was caused when the Nazca Plate subducted under the South
American Plate. This exact

A Mapmaker s Dream By James Cowan
A Mapmaker s Dream, by James Cowan, is about Fra Mauro, a monk who lived in medieval
times pursuing to make a perfect map of the world, without traveling outside the monastery he
resided in. Because he is a monk, Mauro had to stay in his monastery for religious reasons, as he
would upset god if he did. Travelers came and visited Mauro to tell their stories of adventures,
which Mauro keeps into account. In this book, map making comes up a lot, as well as monastic
education and Mauro s acquisition of knowledge of his map. This book accurately portrays Fra

Mapmaker s Dream when Fra Mauro does not want to travel, for fear that he would upset God.
Similarly, in the book A Life for God: The Medieval Monastery, by William Lace, the main piece
that all monks lived under was something called the Benedictine rule. This rule mapped out the

Hunting Persuasive
Hunting is a great sport. There are people who spend their entire year waiting on the next hunting
season to come along. They often strive to catch the biggest, most beautiful buck that they can find.
It is often enough to provide food for their family and friends throughout the season when they are
unable to hunt. The biggest problem with this is keeping your gamefresh until you can get it back
out of the woods.
Gone Huntin
Hunting is a great way to get out into the world. It is something that make bonding with other
men easier and gives them a way to compete with one another to see who can bring in the
biggest. It also means getting out into nature, and in some cases; you may have to venture way
out into the woods where vehicles are unable to go. This can make keeping your catch a little
difficult. To carry large game, you would need a large cooler, but they can often be too heavy to
carry deep into the woods, but to stay fresh; it needs to be iced quickly. How do you handle it?

go. They go ahead and cut it up for individual meals that they can prepare when they get to camp

  • 2. 1999 Baseball Umpires Resignation The Major League Umpires Association (MLUA) was the union that represented Major League Umpires from 1970 to 1999. The MLUA ended up being decertified and replaced by the World Umpires Association (WUA) when Richie Phillips, the head of the MLUA since 1978 and known for his combative, antagonistic style, announced in July 1999 that 57 of the league s 66 MLUA members would submit resignations effective September 2nd. Richie Phillips assumption that the threat of the resignation of the umpires would force the Major League Baseball(MLB) back to the negotiating table to sign a new contract was erroneous and the scheme led to disastrous results for 22 of the umpires who handed in their resignations and had them accepted. In the end 11 umpires never got their jobs back and went on to retirement or other jobs. The MLUA umpires had struck several times in previous years (1979, 1984 and 1991) and had been locked out for the first days of the start of the 1995 baseball season under Richie Phillips tutorage. Each of these previous work stoppages had worked out in the umpires favor; they enjoyed huge increases in their pay scale, more job security, and better vacations. The MLB and MLUA always had caustic labor relations and tensions were soaring in the summer of 1999 as the MLUA s five year labor agreement was entering its final year. The MLUA had great concerns with some major changes proposed by the MLB to the strike zone, umpire evaluations and staff consolidation but were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of RFP For ATM Monitoring A judgement call that I made which did not allow for analysis or information gathering due to time constraints was when a large Southern Financial institution that I was leading Distributed Service Delivery for put out a large RFP for ATM monitoring; they had approximately 3600 ATMs all being serviced and monitored by Diebold, as the Program Manager over this account all RFPs ran through me. I pulled in what experts we had on ATM monitoring to provide a thorough response document, it was assumed throughout my company that we were likely being used solely for leverage with Diebold more so than having a chance at this business. We were told within a couple weeks that Diebold was being awarded the bid so I stopped our internal evaluations on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Connectivity to the ATMs was quickly available due to already having connectivity within the customers network, I just needed resources and training. Recruiting stepped up and sourced 5 of the 7 resources within three weeks and my RIMM Team with the addition of these 5 resources and the shadowing from the customers tier 3 engineers were able to successfully come up to speed and deliver on this new service. I had a complete team of 7 resources before the end of the first 30 days. This became a great win for Pomeroy and for the Customer. For the Customer, we were offering a tier 2 level Service at a tier 3 three price point, well under their original T1 provider in this space. • 4. Examples Of Non Traditional Families In The Bean Trees Miles Cruger 11/7/2017 ALA Pd. 7 Non Traditional Families in The Bean Trees Families come in many forms, and family may not be considered traditional can still have a deep seated relationship, much of the time more so than traditional families. Barbara Kingsolver s novel The Bean Trees makes non traditional families very prevalent, showing their supportive and functional nature. A traditional familyis a family that has a mother, father, and children, whereas a non traditional family varies from that set. Barbara shows the reader that non traditional families can function and support the members of the family just as well, if not better than traditional families. Alice and Taylor have a tight knit and close relationship, one that is supportive at its nature. Alice has supported Taylor is so many ways throughout her lifetime. On page 2, we are told that When Taylor was a young child, she would catch small fish, and Alice would act like it was huge, and cook them up for dinner. This is a great example of how they support each other. Without anyone else, Alice is boosting Taylor s self confidence, and supporting her, arguably better than traditional families, like all mothers should. They function like most families, even though all they have is each other. On page 5, Alice consoles Taylor on techniques for getting the job at the hospital. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1776, the founding fathers of the United States of America signed the Declaration of Independence, according to ushistory.org 60 delegates signed the document that granted the country we know today as the United States free from British rule. Some of the men that inked their name into American history were Thomas Jefferson. The first amendment of the United States states Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances (Bill of Rights Institute). In simpler words this amendments means that any citizen may practice any religion that he or she identifies as their faith. It also grants all citizens the right to free speech. Free speech means that an individual can say whatever they wish, without any restrictions, even if the words are inappropriate, disrespect any political leader or disrespect the government itself. We have a right to say what we desire. The first amendment along with granting the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion, allows freedom of press. This allows the press the ability to publish what they desire, even if it is absurd or incorrect. • 7. Essay on Sociological Perspectives to Understand Society WITH REFERENCE TO THE RANGE OF SOCIOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVES, EXPLAIN HOW SOCIOLOGISTS ATTEMPT TO UNDERSTAND SOCIETY. The main aim of sociology is to seek an understanding or explanation as to how society functions or operates. There are numerous sociological theories, some dating back as early as the 19th century, these include Structural and Marxist Functionalism and Social Action theories. Throughout the years these perspectives have gradually been modernised due to the changes that have occurred in society. In this assignment I shall be looking at the key theories of the more notable exponents of the different sociological perspectives from pre industrialisation times to the modern age and their interpretation of how society works. He argued that sociology should be based on the methodology of natural science and claimed that this would result in positive science of society. (Giddens 1997) Talcott Parsons was an American sociologist whose main contribution was to add to the view of society the notion that functional relationships within and between institutions contributed to harmony in the system thus society involves at least a level of integration between the parts. Parsons stated that the central value of the system of a society provides the basic glue that shapes and holds the society together and therefore provides the base for integration. He continued in saying that members of society share the same goals, thus persons may have different roles and perform different functions, but once they all agree on the values that underpin the goal to be attained, they are likely to have equal commitment to attain the common goal. (Baert, Carreira da Silva 2010) According to Parsons, society is based on a value consensus, which is a set of agreed goals, values and roles that standardise and determine behaviour. This value consensus is established and maintained within the institutions of society. Society is therefore a system and has to meet certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Antigovernment Statements through Painting While Van Gogh shut himself off from the world first, in rural Provence, and second, in an asylum in Saint Remy, other artists have used their celebrity to draw attention to contemporary political events, and to speak out against, and challenge the establishment. As mentioned above, Warhol had made art from newspaper headlines, thus drawing attention to contemporary politics on race in America. However, among the best known of such anti governmental statements is Picasso s painting Guernica, which represents a passionate attack on Spain s fascist government by the Spanish artist living in Paris. It portrays a scene of the German bombing, in 1937, of Guernica, the Basque capital of Northern Spain, during the Spanish civil war, and became a universal symbol of the atrocity of war. The scene is set within a room where, at an open end on the left, a bull flails its tail as it stands over a woman grieving over the dead child in her arms. The subjects in this painting are shown as innocent and helpless. The centre is occupied by a horse, which falls in agony as it had just been run through by a spear or javelin. The large gaping wound in its side is a major focus of the painting, reinforced by the human skull which overlays the horse s body. On the open palm of the dead soldier in the foreground is a stigmata, a symbol of martyrdom derived from a stigmata of Christ. A light bulb blazes in the shape of an evil eye over the suffering horse s head, reminiscent of the bare bulb ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sykes is a overcontrolling husband and frequently abuses Delia throughout their marriage. He does this in several different ways. First is verbal, he is always yelling and at Delia and never has anything nice to say. Along with a general rudeness toward her he makes threats to her, saying things such as, Ah oughter mash you in yo mouf fuh drawing dat skillet on me (Hurston 3). This threatening manner eventually stops working as she grew numb to his threats after fifteen years of marriage. So, in response to her numbness he escalates his abuse by physically assaulting her. Even the men at the shop recognize that she is the provider in the family and that Sykes is an abuser. They also recognize the effect the abuse had on her and her appearance. • 10. The Amboyna Massacre And The Dutch East India Company The Amboyna Massacre occurred in 1623 on the island of Ambon in present day Indonesia where twenty men were executed on the accusation of treason by the hands of the Dutch East India Company. Ten of these men were members of English East India Company who were trading at a post belonging to the Dutch East India Company. The Amboyna Massacre would result in an intensifying feud between the English and the Dutch, and would be a symbol for growing European power throughout the world. The Indies and more specifically Ambon Island would be the stage for this massacre by the Dutch East India Company. What is more important than this is exactly what the Indies had to offer for both companies at the time. In short, the answers are trade... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Dutch may have very well looked for spices in Portuguese land as a form of retribution for embargoing the Dutch. The Dutch may have also looked in Portuguese land because they thought it was not as well as defended or it had easier shipping routes. All three of these reasons were the potential thought process going through minds of the Dutch rulers at the time. Nearly seven years after the Spanish had embargoed trade between the Dutch and the Portuguese, Steven van der Hagen conquered the fortress Victoria at Amboyna. This fortress had previously been a trade center for the Portuguese spice trade, but after it was captured by Steven van der Hagen in 1605, the spice trade once again resumed. Once the Dutch had captured fort Victoria, they began to attempt to set up a local monopsony. To set up a monopsony, all trade competitors had to be removed and there could only be one buyer for all of the spice sellers. It was quite evident when the Dutch East India Company captured the fort that setting up a monopsony would be quite difficult especially when considering other major competitors such as the East India Company. The only way this would be possible was by force which is where the rift and future rivalry began between the two companies. • 11. Disadvantages of Biofuel Production According to this article written by David Pimentel, Alison Marklein, Megan A. Toth, Marissa N. Karpoff, Gillian S. Paul, Robert McCormack, Joanna Kyriazis, and Tim Krueger, the production of biofuels is not only energetically wasteful in most circumstances, but it is also causing food shortages throughout the world. By creating biofuels throughout United States, we are not only using up valuable farmlands, but we are actually becoming more dependent upon foreign oil. Throughout this article several statistics are given to show how energetically unfavorable the production of biofuels really is. Not only does the production of biofuels require huge amounts of resources like water, cropland, and chemical fertilizers, but in many cases it also consumes more net energy in fossil fuels than it produces in alternative energy resources. Some examples of biofuel production throughout the world include biomass resources, corn ethanol, grass and cellulosic ethanol, soybean biodiesel, and algae for oil production. Renewable biomass resources on planet Earth amount to nearly 92 quads or 19% of the global energy use per year. One quad is equal to 1 quadrillion or 1015 BTU s. To place this into perspective, a little over 1,000 BTU s are in a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The majority of these biomass resources come from wood harvested from forests throughout the world. Included in this biomass calculation is the total forest biomass production that yields 38 quads or 8% of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Goal Vs. Team Goals For Older Athletes It is difficult to say which goal is more important. I think it is very dependent on the age of the athletes. I think for younger athletes who are still learning, the more important goal should be for personal achievement in development, success, performance, and behavior. The team goals should be acknowledged, but the goals should be within the abilities of the athletes. For older athletes in a more professional setting, I think the overall goalfor the team should be the main focus. Again, with personal goals not falling to the side, but with a main focus on team goals. If I had to give up one to achieve the other, I think letting go of the team goals for athletes personal success is more important. Again, this has to do with the team goal ... Sickle Cell Anemia Disease is an inherited disease that turns healthy red blood cells (donut shape) into abnormal sickle shaped red cells which affects people s hemoglobin (a red protein responsible for transporting oxygen in the blood) (Naoum). Her whole life she was deprived of love from the people she most needed it from. Every part of Audrey needed to give love, and for the rest of her life that s exactly what she did. Audrey Kathleen Ruston was born May 4, 1929 in Brussels, Belgium. She was born to Ella the Baroness Van Heemstra Ruston and Joseph Ruston. (Enchantment: The Life of Audrey Hepburn pg.5 paragraph 2 and pg.7 paragraph 3) When she was five, her parents sent her to boarding school in England. Just soon after her father walked out on the familyand she rarely ever saw him again. This would traumatize Audrey for the rest of her life. She didn t have a lot of great technique, but she definitely had talent. Said a critic who watched Audrey perform. (Audrey1.org Biography section, section under 1946) This one line sums up Audrey Hepburn s whole career. Audrey started ballet when she was very little. According to the organizational behavior text groups are a collection of individuals who interact with each other such that one person s actions have an impact on the others (Bauer, T., Erdogan, B.) The organizational behavior text mentions an interested fact: data suggest that deficient interpersonal communication was a causal factor in approximately 70% to 80% of all accidents over the last 20 years. Taking this statement into consideration, imagine all the unnecessary accidents that could happen with the turtles if they did not communicate properly. Being that Leonardo is the team captain if you will, he is more responsible for the effective communication. Poor communication can lead to more serious things like lawsuits. Now it is not likely that a villain from this familiar comic is going to sue the turtles, but if we put it into a real life scenario it could work. For example, Leonardo tells the group of turtles that they need to use their ninja skills to exterminate criminal A, when in reality the group s mission was supposed to be to exterminate criminal B and the person who put Leonardo in charge then sues the ninja turtles for killing the wrong person. This level of miscommunication is detrimental to any group, but especially the ninja turtles since people s lives are at risk. • 16. Psychological and Ethical Egoism Essay Egoism is a teleological theory of ethics that sets the ultimate criterion of morality in some nonmoral value (i.e. happiness or welfare) that results from acts (Pojman 276). It is contrasted with altruism, which is the view that one s actions ought to further the interests or good of other people, ideally to the exclusion of one s own interests (Pojman 272). This essay will explain the relation between psychological egoism and ethical egoism. It will examine how someone who believes in psychological egoism explains the apparent instancesof altruism. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If one performs an act beneficial to others with a view to gaining affection, respect, reputation, or any form of gratitude then it is not an altruistic act. It is in fact a selfish act because the principal motivation was to reap some benefit for oneself. The desire of this benefit exists equally whether it is psychological, emotional, intellectual, or material. Each form of desirable benefit is philosophically identical as a motivation. According to the psychological egoist, in most cases, behavior may appear as if it is altruistic, but in fact, due to the motivation behind the act, it is quite the opposite. Instead, the act is driven by a rational and reasoned desire to benefit by following one s own personal system of values. Individuals instilled with a belief that serving others is their duty may, contrary to the idea of psychological egoism , begin the habit of performing truly altruistic actions out of this sense of duty only. Some feel that even this can be construed as self interest, because the benefit might be the perceived avoidance of the anticipated feelings of guilt which may arise if the duty is not fulfilled. In any case, there are those who rely on their sense of duty to direct them to what they perceive to be virtuous behaviour. This frequently leads to resentment against those for whom they are performing their duties. Moreover, some believe that altruist behaviour becomes an impossibility, as people ... • 35. The Social Consequences Of Heteronormativity As children, we are indoctrinated into the social construct of heteronormativity. Based on our biological sex at birth, we are given blue or pink clothes, play princesses or superheroes, and are told either, cross your legs and sit like a lady or act like a man and stop crying . As adults, we watch movies and TV shows where the husband comes home from a long day at work to greet his wife who has just finished making dinner. Heteronormativityrefers to those norms related to gender and sexuality which keep in place patriarchy and compulsory heterosexuality as well as other systems and ideologies related to power (Sharma 2009). Gay, lesbian, queer, homosexual, agender, androgynous, bigender, bisexual, butch, femme, dyke, stud, lipstick lesbian, gender fluid; There are a seemingly endless terministic screens used to label women who love women, but they all come down to one meaning, we aren t normal. Even if any given terminology is a reflection of reality, by its very nature as a terminology it is a selection of reality; and to this extent it must also function as a deflection of reality (Burke 1968). Viewing lesbians through heteronormative gender roles oversimplifies complex identities into false dichotomies. When I was around five years old my step sister, Kelly, came to live with us. This battle, which has raged since the nation?s founding, touches the very heart of the United States public, and pits two of the country s most important influences of public opinion against one another. Although some material containing religious content has found its way into many of the nation s public schools, its inclusion stems from its contextual and historical importance, which is heavily supported by material evidence and documentation. It often results from a teacher?s own decision, rather than from a decision handed down from above by a higher power. The proposal of the Dover Area School District to... If approved, the bill would require intelligent design to be taught alongside any evolutionary theory in order to present an ?explanation of the origin of life that differs from Darwin?s view?. Additionally, it would require a statement to be read that expresses doubts about Darwinist theories (Baksa 1). The Court is now confronted with the responsibility of determining if Dover?s proposition, and the implications of its implementation are constitutional, or whether they would violate fundamental personal freedoms. In order to make its decision, the court must contemplate many facets of the issue, including: if the religious origins of intelligent design permeate the theory too strongly, if teaching I.D. in schools would violate statutes regarding state funding for public schools, and even if the theory provides sufficient factual scientific evidence to be taught as a scientific theory in a school?s biology curriculum. Case law supporting the absence of the instruction of intelligent design theory from secular, public education cites several main grounds for exclusion, including the unconstitutionality of ?sponsorship, financial support, and active involvement of the sovereign in religious activity? Another big key was that fur trapping and trading changed commerce as well as the natural environment. Europeans wanted commercial connections with Asia. Christopher Columbus and Vasco da Gama both sought for a route to Asia. Motivation above all was the desire for the spices in Asia, although other Eastern products were also sought after. European civilizations just recovered from the Black Death. The national monarchies were learning ways to govern more efficiently and effectively. The events that occur in the first scene are undoubtedly crucial, but it is the characters vastly varied reactions to them that are vitally important. This is his first sincerely genial and positive description of someone else in the entire play. No longer is his sole purpose the furthering of his own position by any means, with a complete disregard of the consequences toward others, but now, an awakening of conscience and ethics has happened, and Bosola is capable of telling the truth and not using every opportunity for manipulation. This is a seemingly effortless personality shift, yet one is left to wonder as to the extent of the unseen torment and wrestling as Bosola s compassion starts to shine through. Still ambivalence and ambiguity remain and, when the false corpses of the Duchess family are revealed, it is possible to speculate as to whether there is any degree of divided loyalty. Bosola may be torn between his commitment to himself in his contract to Ferdinand and the altruistic approach of telling the Duchess, who has helped him learn to feel empathy, the truth. Creating a cohesive unit entails breaking down the standards and developing essential questions that will drive student learning and understanding. In addition to breaking down the standards, it is important to set clearlearninggoals for students so they are able to accomplish the learning set in the standards. The best way to set clear learning goals for students is to use the Backwards Planning Model and be clear on the standards that will be taught. Carol Ann Tomlinson and Jay McTighe (2006) believe the deliberate use of the backward design for planning courses, units, and individual lessons results in more appropriate assessments and more purposeful teaching (p. 27). When we as teachers know where our students are going, we can convey that information to them in a way that meets their learning needs. A clear understanding of the standards brought on by backwards planning will lead to clear learning goals for students. Importance of Identifying and Communicating Learning Goals In order for students to gain the learning needed to be successful in the classroom, learning goals must be translated in a way that is clear and transferable.
