Using Project Finance to Fund Infrastructure Investments
USING PROJECT FINANCE TO FUND INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENTS Throughout most of
the history of the industrialized world, much of the funding for large scale public works such as the
building of roads and canals has come from private sources of capital. It was only toward the end of
the 19th century that public financing of large infrastructure projects began to dominate private
finance, and this trend continued throughout most of the 20th century. Since the early 1980s, however,
private sector financing of large infrastructure investments has experienced a dramatic revival. And, in
recent years, such private funding has increasingly taken the form of project finance. The principal
features of such project financings have been the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This encouraged the formation of stand alone power producers able to borrow large sums on the basis
of the long term power purchase agreements they had entered into with electric utilities. Since these
projects do not directly involve a government or a government agency, they are somewhat beyond the
scope of this article. So are projects in Australia, which have primarily been in extractive industries
rather than in infrastructure. In the U.K. by contrast, the government has been directly involved in a
growing number of infrastructure projects since it announced in 1992 the establishment of the Private
Finance Initiative (PFI). The PFI is designed to involve the private sector in the financing and the
management of infrastructure and other projects. Private finance has so far been used principally for
transportation projects such as the £320 million rail link to Heathrow airport, the £2.7 billion Channel
Tunnel Rail Link, a £250 million scheme to build and maintain a new air traffic control center in
Scotland, and projects worth more than £500 million to design, build, finance, and operate (DBFO)
trunk roads. But the potential scope of the PFI is wide. Over 1,000 potential PFI projects have been
identified, and the government has signed contracts to build and maintain such diverse

Implementing Efficient Fleet Planning And Increase...
One of the most effective ways to implement efficient fleet planning and increase profitability is to
purchase modern and fuel efficient aircraft. Typically, when placing an order for new aircraft, airline
companies utilize options, which enable them to purchase additional airliners at an agreed upon rate in
the future (Kodukula Papudesu, 2006). In this manner, airlines are able to update their fleet and invest
into modern aircraft while postponing the acquisition of additional airliners until the efficiency of the
aircraft model and its suitability to a particular market have been ascertained.
It needs to be stressed that, with regards to selecting the most efficient aircraft, different types of
airline will utilize different fleet planning strategies. Thus, non scheduled carriers, cargo operators,
low cost carriers, and leasing companies will apply different criteria with regards to fleet planning
(Clark, 2012). In this section, the present report focuses on major U.S. airlines such as American
Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlines to examine strategies mobilized by airline companies
when purchasing new aircraft. In addition, Korean Air will be considered so as to better gauge the
current situation of the US airlines flight operations by the way of a comparison with a major
international airline.

Under Title IX, a school is permitted to provide certain sex segregated areas, such as restrooms and
housing, as well as certain single sex classes and sports teams. Transgender students must be allowed
to participate in activities and access facilities consistent with their gender identity. Restrooms: While
a school may make individual user restrooms an option, they are not permitted to require transgender
students to use these facilities, or restrooms inconsistent with their gender identity when other students
are not required to do so. Athletics: Title IX regulations allow a school to sponsor sex segregated

Essay on Third Grade Classroom Observation and Analysis
Classroom Environment A general population third grade class was observed to further understand the
psychological aspect of teaching. The Title I school classroom observed has sixteen students, eight
girls and eight boys, and is almost entirely made up of students from a low socioeconomic status
(SES). The desks are arranged with one big horseshoe and two rows of desks inside the horseshoe
shape. The teacher has made adjustments to seating assignments and layout due to student behavior
and feedback. The class is made up with students eight to nine years old with two students repeating

The graphic organizer allows students to inform their teacher what they know, what they want to
know, and what they learned. This was the only constructivism observed in the class. Due to time
constraints, the teacher does not have enough time to go more in depth with the students with the
concepts to evoke more meaningful learning. The students in this class could benefit from more class
discussions to elicit a better understanding of the subject matter. The worksheets that the students
work with have very little relevance in their lives, which only adds frustration to the learning process.
With time being the main reason that there is a lack of constructivism, the teacher could look into
alternative approaches. One approach that might work well in this classroom is problem based
learning. The students are inquisitive and innovative. Classroom distractions would be lowered, and
the students would be actively engaged in their learning.
Theories of Intelligence Howard Gardner s theory of multiple intelligence s (MI theory) is a valuable
resource for teachers, if they understood how they could apply this in the classroom (Snowman
McCown, 2012). In this class, there are multiple intelligences observed amongst the students;
however, there is minimal differentiated instruction to allow the students the best opportunities for
success. It is critical that teachers understand that their teaching methods may not be wrong, but they

Persuasive Essay On Avalanches
I love to snowmobile, and every day I go snowmobiling, I am at risk of becoming a victim of an
avalanche. I ask myself how can I be prepared and confident in the event of an avalanche? My paper
goes into depth on the physical properties and causes of an avalanche as well as the knowledge you
need to stay safe. My paper starts off with the question addressed and then some research that I have
done on the topic. Following that research, I move into the formal research section of the paper. The
research found includes different causes of avalanches, action steps to take, rescuing victims, trauma,
other winter sports safety, and where to find the best information about avalanches for beginning
learners. My paper finishes with my conclusion to about avalanches and my project. It then goes into
my future plans about avalanche research. There is more research to be done on avalanches and I plan
on using the information that I have found throughout the rest of my life.

Research on Marine Vessels
CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of study
There are four classes of vessels and four zones. The vessel for class A will sail in the area of zone A,
vessel of class B at zone b and so on. Those vessels have their own fish catches. Trawling is a fishing
method that very profit and this method have been used in the world and catch every marine organism
through the open mouth of the trawl net. There are various type of gear sizes, from the small gear size
to the bigger size that will sail in the middle of the ocean. However, trawling will catch a big number
of marine organism. The trawling techniques are expands within the short times in the gear size, which
can catch a big quantity of fishes. The weakness of the trawl gear is the trawlers are always catch the
non target organisms that must be avoided such as juvenile, threatened species, lower price fishes, and
the charisma species such as sea turtle ad marine mammal (Fonteyne, 2000). Trawl net can be
classified to several categories such as demersal otter trawling or bottom trawling, shooting and
hauling otter trawl gear, twin rig trawling, demersal pair trawling, beam trawling, pelagic pair trawling
or mid water trawling, and pelagic single boat trawling (Sainsbury, 1986). In our country, the trawlers
use bottom trawling and mid water trawling.
Bottom trawling is the method of towing the trawl along the sea floor. Mid water trawling is the
method of towing the trawl through the column of water above the bottom of

Emotional Intelligence Of Leaders By Daniel Goleman
In Daniel Goleman s article, The emotional intelligence of leaders, he asserts that emotional
intelligence not rational intelligence is what distinguishes exceptional leaders from average leaders.
Biologically speaking, feelings and emotions developed in the limbic system before the development
of rational thought in the cerebral cortex. Emotional intelligence involves the balance and synergy
between the emotional and rational centers of the human brain. Goleman, a psychologist who has
written articles for the New York Times and has authored books and on behavioral science, establishes
five emotional intelligence competencies required for successful leaders: self awareness, emotion
management, motivation of others, empathy, and staying connected.
Self awareness is an understanding of how you feel and who you are; it involves the ability to listen to
your deepest instincts and influences your decision making. Self aware leaders are confident, decisive,
and know who they are what their strengths and weaknesses are. Emotion management is exhibiting
good self control and limiting impulsive reactions. Leaders who allow themselves to be governed by
anger, fear, anxiety, and sadness cannot provide effective, confident, authoritative leadership. Goleman
references a Stanford University study which showed that children with better impulse control, in this
case delaying gratification, outperformed their impulsive counterparts years later on the Scholastic
Aptitude Test (SAT).

Thomas King Dead Indian Analysis
Savage, hunter, predator; these are all words used to define the Aboriginal People of North America
who have been depicted in advertisements that date back to the 20th century. A notable example can
be found on the cover of Thomas King s The Inconvenient Indian. The mid 1900 s poster acts as a
representation of North America during that time period. It portrays an Indian in full headdress
peeking out from behind palm fronds looking at this ocean liner cutting through the waves. King calls
this a sort of latter day Christopher Columbus moment (King, 2015). Advertisements such as this only

Design Thinking I have been researching about Design Thinking and the vital role that reinterpretation
plays in the design process and reviews. Moreover, to discover more information, I used the library,
Google Scholar and ACM Digital Library and various magazines, blogs and articles. I used speech
marks on the phrase Design Thinking before entering it on the search engines. The purpose of this is
to ensure I discover appropriate information. I have selected the book Design Studies by Catherine
Stones published in 2010, The Principles Purpose of Interactive Design published by Jamie Steane in
2014, as well as, the book Wicked Problems in Design Thinking by Richard Buchanan, 1992. The
reason I have carefully chosen these books is due to the reviews, their informative nature and there are
different range of published dates. Moreover, Tim Brown discussed Harvard Business Review in 2008
about Design Thinking, as well as, Jon Kolko wrote an article about 20 Design Thinking Comes Of
Age and Phil Brown recently discussed Why Design Thinking Conquered The World, research as well
as, Steve Lennon discussed about Design Thinking. The text, which is less relevant is the Wicked
Problems In Design Thinking as it is quite an old text book. Overall, all these books and sources give

Tactical Skills In National Security
According to Army Sustainment Magazine, over the past 10 years sustainment unit training efforts
have focused primarily on building and developing soldiers tactical skills at the cost of their technical
military occupational specialty (MOS) skills. This off balance training focus and overdependence on
contract support has resulted in a battle hardened force of sustainment soldiers, many of whom lack
technical proficiency because they have not been working in their MOSs. Currently we are facing a
resource constrained environment, funding for contracts is being significantly reduced along with
several other resources, and soldiers are once again expected to perform their technical missions

A soldier that is skilled only in tactical operations but is inferior in his actual job is a risky situation
and vice versa. In an operational environment, regardless of job or individual MOS, each soldier risks
exposure to hostile actions. A solider down range may be confronted with a life or death situation; not
only from a tactical perspective but also a technical perspective. Making mistakes in general, tactical
or technical, may have the same catastrophic results. We must get back to building soldiers up in their
technical skills so that they will be proficient in the MOS tasks they need to know, the tasks they came
in the Army to learn and perfect. A soldier working in his MOS is a happy soldier who will stay in the
unit and in the Army. He may also develop into a highly proficient NCO or warrant officer candidate

The Trojan War Essay
Over the past years a lot of archaeological and literary evidence has helped us gain a better
understanding of the history of Troy. Much hard work has gone into the excavations there by many
archaeologists, and many interesting artefacts have been found. The story of the Ancient City of Troy
is a great one, however many people believed it didn t exist and that Homers Iliad, the story of the
Trojan War was just some story. This has since been proved untrue as the city of Troy was discovered,

worked on the site for three years with 160 men helping him. In his rush to find the real Troy he dug
straight through the other levels until he found a level that looked like it had suffered from burning .
He had dug through to level two . He had also found a great stone gate, wide enough to fit two
chariots through side by side. This was a massive clue, as Homer had described a similar gateway in
his Iliad . As a result of Schliemann s unorganised dig he had destroyed other levels of troy which
were more likely to be the Troy Homer described. Schliemann had many convinced that he had found
the fallen city of Troy, but others were not so sure. He needed something to prove that this was the
Troy from the Trojan War. Then during his last season of excavation at the location of Troy he found
it, King Priam s lost treasure. He dug out the treasure, and placed them on his wife which he then took
a photo of . It turned out that Schliemann s wife wasn t even in the country when he found the
treasure. There was also suspicion that he had just bought the jewels from an antique shop in the town.
In 1873 Schliemann concluded his excavation. Although he had destroyed a lot of troy, he had found
where the city was located, and this was something many people believed impossible, he had given us

Summary Of Abortion By Anne Sexton
In Anne Sexton s poem The Abortion , she uses literary devices to reflect her heart wrenching decision
of whether or not to abort one of her children, which reflects the style of confessional poetry because
she is sharing her personal feelings and experiences. Anne Sexton was a famous poet of confessional
poetry, where the poets write about their private experiences with feelings about death, trauma, and
depression in their lives. Anne Sexton wrote from the point of view of an upper middle class woman.
She had two children, and the stress of having them, gave her life long depression. Sexton was sent to
a psychiatric hospital after the birth of her second child. The Abortion displays all of Sexton s feelings
that she has about her abortion.
Sexton sets off the poem [driving] south (Sexton 5). She is describing her trip to go and get her child
aborted, and she sees the road sunken like a gray washboard (9). The road is extremely rough and
bumpy, which is often an unpleasant surface to drive on. The negative connotation of her car ride there
is making her trip start off horribly and she has not even gotten to the worst part of it yet. The gray
description of the road makes it seem lifeless, which reflects how Sexton is feeling on her trip. She
also sees grass as bristly and stout as chives (14). Chives are a tall green plant that look like grass,
which she describes as bristly . Indicating that the grass is rough and scratchy. This gives it a negative

Modernizing The World Can Be Detrimental
Modernizing the world can be detrimental to religious cooperation. With an increase in education of
the different options of religious directions, there are controversial means of interaction between them
as the different religious beliefs compete to be right or most beneficial to the human population. Some
religions, like Hinduism, typically tolerate other beliefs and desire to work with them to maintain
order and a civil living situation. Unlike Hinduism, Christianity appears to exert attributes that oppose
this mindset. They are in conflict with other religions even within the umbrella of Christianity

There is always a conflict between religious beliefs (Roccas, 2005). Irreligious people live according
to rituals, behaviors, and other values that align with their own personal ethic, while Religious
individuals abide by what is given them by their divine authority. These variations are easily
scientifically observable, but, the motives behind the beliefs require more insight and intuition to
deduce. According to Roccas (2005), values are the motives behind their actions. This includes factors
that influence one to act a certain way, understand situations, and give reasons for their behaviors. It is
a method to quench people s desires through meaningful and ethical means. The concept of good and
bad are founded on this idea of values (Roccas, 2005). These place a hierarchical order of significance
and morality in one s life. Values such as family security, forgiveness, and obedience take priority in
importance to those of religious lifestyles. Some of the values that are attributed to low importance in
the lives of religious individuals may include pleasure and an exciting life (Roccas, 2005). Consistent

The hero we all wish we could be
The hero we all wish we could be. In the late eighteen hundreds the roles of genders were specific.
Men were to work and provide for his family. While woman were to stay home and care for their
household, children, and ultimately to satisfy their husbands desires. In the play A Doll House by
Henrik Ibsen we see the character of Nora Helmer escape from this age s common gender role by
leaving her husband and children behind in search for her own happiness. While many could criticize
Nora s abandonment of her children and husband a cowardly and wrong thing to do. Nora could also
be seen as heroic for challenging the power of a man during this time and escaping her unhappy life.

Torvald also calls Nora various pet names such as, my squirrel and my little skylark . This really
dehumanizes Nora and further reinforces Torvalds power. The symbol of money is a continuous
struggle throughout Torvald and Nora s marriage. Torvald belittles Nora for spending money the way
that she does. Torvald calls Nora a spendthrift and says that she is very foolish with money. Torvald
claims that Nora s lack of responsibility with money is due to being a woman. Torvald gives Nora
money to pay back a potter that they owed money to. And money to buy Christmas gifts for the
children. When Nora returns and shows Torvald the things that she bought and tells him how much
she paid the potter back. Torvald says Nora, Nora, how like a woman! (p852). This shows how greatly
the impact of gender mattered to Torvald in their marriage. Due to this constant criticism and
belittlement is shown by Torvald towards Nora over money throughout the play. Under the control of
Torvald now and her father originally, a man has always controlled Nora s life. Mary Wollstonecraft,
author of the book A Vindication of the rights of woman states that from birth woman are taught to

The Importance Of Choosing A College
Choosing what to do for the rest of your life and which school to attend is a difficult decision at the
age of eighteen. Throughout your high school career, teachers warn students how hard choosing a
college will be. Teachers prepare the students for this time in their life, but as the day comes, the
decision is not easier. Many factors are taken into consideration when choosing a college. Factors such
as cost, programs offered, and living arrangements are considered. Universities are alike in certain
ways, such as aspects on campus. Although universities are similar, they may differ in location. One
university may be closer to a student s hometown, which could be one of the attracting factors of that
school to the student. In order to understand and view the important aspects each school has to offer, it
is crucial to compare and contrast Northern Illinois University and Southern Illinois University
Edwardsville to distinguish which school offers more to suit my wants and needs as a student entering
college. While deciding on a college, cost can be a big factor in the decision that is being made. Cost
is important because the student will be paying off that debt for many years after the college degree
has been received. Most students are unable to pay off the large expense that college brings up front,
so student loans must be taken out. With student loans, there is interest. If the student attends an
expensive college and does not start out in their career making a lot

The major barriers to breaking the glass ceiling were outlined in the final recommendations of the
Glass Ceiling Commissions report (March, 1995). These barriers were described as follows: internal
structural ; social and difference and governmental . Within each of these three identified barriers are
multiple interconnected ideals and views which make the process of breaking through the glass ceiling
a difficult process, but one that is not impossible (Glass Ceiling Commission, November 1995).The
social and difference barrier is one of the most difficult barriers for women to break in order to push

Religious Symbolism In Cool Hand Luke, Directed By Stuart...
Cool Hand Luke , directed by Stuart Rosenberg, is full of religious symbolism. Religious symbolism
is present in some capacity in a majority of films. This is because of how easily recognizable and
relatable these themes are. Many film critics have written and discussed this theme in a variety of
literature works.
The first symbol, which one can clearly see is the main character s first name, which is Luke. 1The
book of Luke is a very well know book of The Bible , and Luke is also a close follower of Christ. 2
Religious Symbolism is also present in the scene where Luke is consuming the 50 eggs. Eggs are
closely related to Easter, and also to Christ because eggs symbolism rebirth. Luke s ingestion of the

In the book of Luke in The Holy Bible Jesus is crucified and while on the cross he also calls out to his
father, which is God. 7 After Luke is let out of the hole he goes back to his bunk, he returns broken by
his tormentors and stripped of the respect of worshipful inmates (William Web). They were
disappointed because Luke finally gave into the bosses and they offer Luke no help at all. The other
inmates appear sad and some are even trying. This is very similar to how Jesus was forced to carry his
cross, and did not receive any help from his disciples, whom had followed him for years. His disciples
only act sad and cry from the sidelines. 8 Dragline and Luke escape in the end and we see them hiding
out in an orchard. Drag ends up selling out Luke s whereabouts to the bosses, because he believes they
will go easier on him. One of the saddest stories in The Holy Bible is the story of how Judas betrayed
Jesus and sold him out to be crucified in exchange for 30 pieces of silver. Jesus and Luke were both
sold out to one of their closest and most reliable followers. 9 After Dragline betrays Luke, Luke is shot
and killed by the man with no eyes. One of the last scenes depicts Dragline surrounded by inmates

The Consequences Of The Goose Girl, A Fairy Tale
Goose Girl is a fairy tale collected by the Grimm brothers who s story line is about a young Princess
arranged for a marriage with a far away prince, and is deceived from her title on her way to her
bridegroom. Deceived and over powered by her waiting woman, the Princess shows development, but
our dreamer for this analysis is the waiting woman. Fairy tales are all about embracing birth rights,
and this is exactly what the waiting woman is deviant about: she broke from the system and tries to
work her way up a class that she is not born into. The waiting woman struggles with her individuation,
the process of accepting the daily events. Through this analysis, the consequences of not accepting the
life you are born to live will serve as an example of a deeper evil. First, to begin this analysis, the
archetypes are to be assigned. We will start with the shadow, represented by the Princess. Accordingly,
this is a same sex character that at first embodies the elements a waiting woman should have: quiet,
submissive, and compliant because she had to give away and let it be as [the waiting woman] said
(583). The Princess carries the qualities that are considered to be expected of a waiting woman. The
opposite sex character that represents the animus in the waiting woman s story is the horse, Falada.
The horse noticed and remembered the acts the waiting woman commits, so she later on tries to get rid
of the horse, who later develops the story in an indirect way (583). The waiting woman s self is
represented by the casket dragged by horses idea she pitched in for the King. Her refusal to become
who she was intended to be led her to declaring her own fate. Moreover, to explain these labels, the
important events relevant to the development of the waiting woman should be recognized and
explained. The waiting woman is first set on her journey to fulfill her duties beside the Princess after
mounting their respective horses. On both occasions that the Princes has been thirsty, the waiting
woman declares I will not be your slave. If you want a drink, you may get it yourself; I am not going
to be your slave (582). To this, the Princess does not respond; the second time around, as she bends to
drink her water, she looses

Changes In The Upper Palaeolithic Periods
Introduction The Upper Palaeolithic was an explosion of cultural and behavioural changes that were
not present in the lower and middle Palaeolithic periods. These are things such as the creation of art
and figurines and the development of technology in tools that were used. These changes show how
communities and individuals were progressing into what we now consider modern human
behaviours... Art We know that the art that was being created in Europe during the Upper Palaeolithic

This change in behaviour could imply how to populations of the Upper Palaeolithic were developing
emotions and feelings for the deceased and how they saw life and death in their populations (Renfrew
and Bahn 2016; Formicola 2007). While the act of burying the deceased individuals is interesting, the
effort that they took enhancing their appearance by placing beads, the use of red ochre and other
elaborate mortuary practices shows the changes that were happening to the development of culture in
these communities (Dobrovolskaya et al. 2011; Renfrew and Bahn 2016). There is evidence that the
upper Palaeolithic communities could have has a social structure within these communities, as with
more burial discoveries, there is a clear showing that some individuals had been buried with more
grave goods and more time was taken when preparing the burial (Springer and Andrews 2011). The
Sunghir burial in Russia contains the skeletal remains of an adult male and double burial of a boy and
girl. Both burials contained ivory beads that were attached to clothes they were wearing when buried;
there were nearly 3000 ivory beads found in the adult male burial, the double child burials contained
over 10,000 beads together which would have taken many hours to create (Springer and Andrews
2011). The time taken to create these grave goods could suggest they were important people within
their communities such as offspring of a chief (Springer and Andrews

The Film Angela s Ashes
Angela s Ashes
The lead actor s life in the film Angela s Ashes can be explored through western and cultural theories
of human development.
Although the story is titled Angela s Ashes for me the focal character was Frankie (Francis) McCourt.
His complex and tumultuous life drove the story from beginning to end and although his mother
Angela was very important she was part and parcel of the bigger picture that was Frankie McCourt s
life story (Parker, 1999). For me the story resonates the resilience of young people and their ability
and inability to work their way through life. The amount of sadness, instability and constant
impoverishment would have broken most, but Frankie in his role as eldest brother and son always
seemed to find a way to cope and move forward.
Both Cultural and Western theorists would have had a field day with the reality of Frankie s life, but in
looking at the ideas of two specific theorists to endeavour to make sense of his journey I chose
cultural theorist Mason Durie and western theorist Albert Bandura.
Mason Durie s Te Whare Tapa Wha model looks at the individual as a whole piece that needs four
parts to function; taha wairua (spiritual), taha hinegaro (mental), taha tinana (physical), taha whanau
(family) (Durie, 1998). If one part is having difficulty, one or all of the other three parts will take the
strain in some way in order for the individual to function as normal as possible. In the story Frankie s

Themes Of The Four Quartets
Manganiello focuses on the interplay between Dante and Eliot manifested in their use of the
Incarnation. Drawing on the intent search of the confused speaker of The Waste Land, Manganiello
proposes that the Four Quartets answers the search for the essential word with Logos. The epigraphs
for Burnt Norton, the opening quartet, center around Logos and the intersections of time. Manganiello
fleshes out Eliot s exploration of time and eternity through the lens of the Incarnation. The Incarnation
is, of course, the meeting of divinity and humanity, of time and timelessness, of Logos and flesh.
Drawing on Dante s comparison of God to both a circle and a point the eternal and the temporal
Manganiello begins utilizing images from the Divine Comedy, specifically the Paradiso, to provide a
deeper understanding of Eliot s themes in the Four Quartets. Focusing specifically on Burnt Norton,
Manganiello narrows in on the rose garden, examining the primal memories of both an earthly and
supra terrestrial paradise of bliss it triggers. He eventually concludes that, Eliot, like Dante, invites the
reader to cross over from the human to the divine, from time to eternity (111). Switching his focus to
the intersection of time and eternity in the Incarnation, Manganiello discusses an article Eliot
translated for the Criterion entitled On Reading Einstein . The article, written by Charles Mauron,
argues that Einstein s theory of relativity does not

Forest Fires
FOREST FIRES
A forestfire is any uncontrolled fire in combustible vegetation that occurs in the countryside or a
wilderness area.[1][2] Other names such as brush fire, bushfire, forest fire, grass fire, hill fire, peat
fire, vegetation fire, veldfire, and wildland fire may be used to describe the same phenomenon
depending on the type of vegetation being burned. A wildfire differs from other fires by its extensive
size, the speed at which it can spread out from its original source, its potential to change direction
unexpectedly, and its ability to jump gaps such as roads, rivers and fire breaks.[3] Forest fires are
characterized in terms of the cause of ignition, their physical properties such as speed of propagation,

This fuel type is especially susceptible to ignition due to spotting. Ground fires typically burn by
smoldering, and can burn slowly for days to months, such as peat fires in Kalimantan and Eastern
Sumatra, Indonesia, which resulted from a riceland creation project that unintentionally drained and
dried the peat.[29][30] * Crawling or surface fires are fueled by low lying vegetation such as leaf and
timber litter, debris, grass, and low lying shrubbery.[31] * Ladder fires consume material between low
level vegetation and tree canopies, such as small trees, downed logs, and vines. Kudzu, Old World
climbing fern, and other invasive plants that scale trees may also encourage ladder fires.[32] * Crown,
canopy, or aerial fires burn suspended material at the canopy level, such as tall trees, vines, and
mosses. The ignition of a crown fire, termed crowning, is dependent on the density of the suspended
material, canopy height, canopy continuity, and sufficient surface and ladder fires in order to reach the
tree crowns.[33] For example, ground clearing fires lit by humans can spread into the Amazon rain
forest, damaging ecosystems not particularly suited for heat or arid conditions.[34]
Physical properties
Forest fires occur when all of the necessary elements of a fire triangle come together in a wooded
area: an ignition source is brought into contact with a

astonishing that they beat such an enormous empire. Although the American army was at a massive
disadvantage, they did have a few elements on their side. The Americans were more motivated than
the british because they were fighting for their freedom. They also had better leaders that were
encouraging and innovative. The American army had Motivation on their side.

A Society On The Struggles Of Women Essay
Introduction This purpose of this paper is to educate the society on the struggles of women in the
scientific field and the unfair treatment when it comes to accomplishments and pay for these
hardworking individuals.
Back in time, men have always been superior to women almost in every way except for staying home,
keeping the place tidy, and taking care of children. When it came to education and work, men were
definitely the dominant sex in these areas. Today, women have showed their strength and perseverance
in education and career, but they still experience discrimination and pay gaps in the scientific field.
Why are there more men than women present in this career path? From a female who is in this field,
there is a clear pattern in the office area of the chemistry department here at Montclair State
University. There are currently fourteen males who teach the subject of chemistry compared to three
females. This paper will help to demonstrate the statistics and problems that are faced by women.
Another science, physics, also has very few women in its field and this is showed in Eileen Pollack s
The New York Times article Why Are There Still So Few Women in Science? when she mentions The
new study goes a long way toward providing hard evidence of a continuing bias against women in the
sciences. Only one fifth of physics Ph.D. s in this country are awarded to women,...; of all the physics
professors in the United States, only 14 percent are women (Pollack, 2013).

Influence of Gangs Essay
By: Susanna Lee
E mail: lees@student.ucr.edu
Gang Culture has increasingly become a subculture for many teenage youths. Main minority teens,
these social outcast are often have no real economic stability and no parental supervision or guidance.
As a result, teenagers often rebel and seek comfort in gangs. These gangs provide what is lacking in
their lives, a sense of belonging. Minorities are often stereotyped and criticized, especially minorities
born into poverty. They are condemned simply because they are not of the same race or of the same
class as the majority (often middle class whites). Before these minorities can even prove themselves
equal, society already pushes them towards the subculture that has risen out of oppression ... Show

However, lower class gang members are not able to communicate through materialistic possessions.
With no economic power, these teenagers often turn to violence as an alternate from of power. With all
the violence out on the streets, gangbangers do not care so much about materialist items. What is more
important is survival. Middle class teenagers do not have to fear for their lives every day. Instead they
worry more about being accepted into the right crowds and owning lots of expensive items to show
off. Most people fail to realize gang members are products of a bad environment that they are forced
to live in. Immigrant families arrive with little money and have no choice but to live in bad
neighborhoods. Society sees ghettos that are overfilled with immigrants and gangs so all low class
minority teens end up being stereotyped as being gangsters. The violence is not only on the streets but
also at home. Often times, lower class minority teens come from unstable homes. Immigrant parents
no doubt already have a difficult time trying to make it in this prejudice society. With hard time the
common cycle of poverty, drug and alcohol abuse, and sometime physical abuse arises. As a result
teenager often rebel against their parents and find solace elsewhere. Because of the lack of love and
guidance from parents, teens often stray from the family and wander blindly into the life of a

Using Project Finance to Fund Infrastructure Investments USING PROJECT FINANCE TO FUND INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENTS Throughout most of the history of the industrialized world, much of the funding for large scale public works such as the building of roads and canals has come from private sources of capital. It was only toward the end of the 19th century that public financing of large infrastructure projects began to dominate private finance, and this trend continued throughout most of the 20th century. Since the early 1980s, however, private sector financing of large infrastructure investments has experienced a dramatic revival. In the U.K. by contrast, the government has been directly involved in a growing number of infrastructure projects since it announced in 1992 the establishment of the Private Finance Initiative (PFI). The PFI is designed to involve the private sector in the financing and the management of infrastructure and other projects. Private finance has so far been used principally for transportation projects such as the £320 million rail link to Heathrow airport, the £2.7 billion Channel Tunnel Rail Link, a £250 million scheme to build and maintain a new air traffic control center in Scotland, and projects worth more than £500 million to design, build, finance, and operate (DBFO) trunk roads. • 4. Implementing Efficient Fleet Planning And Increase... One of the most effective ways to implement efficient fleet planning and increase profitability is to purchase modern and fuel efficient aircraft. Typically, when placing an order for new aircraft, airline companies utilize options, which enable them to purchase additional airliners at an agreed upon rate in the future (Kodukula Papudesu, 2006). In this manner, airlines are able to update their fleet and invest into modern aircraft while postponing the acquisition of additional airliners until the efficiency of the aircraft model and its suitability to a particular market have been ascertained. It needs to be stressed that, with regards to selecting the most efficient aircraft, different types of airline will utilize different fleet planning strategies. Thus, non scheduled carriers, cargo operators, low cost carriers, and leasing companies will apply different criteria with regards to fleet planning (Clark, 2012). In this section, the present report focuses on major U.S. airlines such as American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlines to examine strategies mobilized by airline companies when purchasing new aircraft. In addition, Korean Air will be considered so as to better gauge the current situation of the US airlines flight operations by the way of a comparison with a major international airline. The students in this class could benefit from more class discussions to elicit a better understanding of the subject matter. The worksheets that the students work with have very little relevance in their lives, which only adds frustration to the learning process. With time being the main reason that there is a lack of constructivism, the teacher could look into alternative approaches. One approach that might work well in this classroom is problem based learning. The students are inquisitive and innovative. Classroom distractions would be lowered, and the students would be actively engaged in their learning. Theories of Intelligence Howard Gardner s theory of multiple intelligence s (MI theory) is a valuable resource for teachers, if they understood how they could apply this in the classroom (Snowman McCown, 2012). Emotional Intelligence Of Leaders By Daniel Goleman In Daniel Goleman s article, The emotional intelligence of leaders, he asserts that emotional intelligence not rational intelligence is what distinguishes exceptional leaders from average leaders. Biologically speaking, feelings and emotions developed in the limbic system before the development of rational thought in the cerebral cortex. Emotional intelligence involves the balance and synergy between the emotional and rational centers of the human brain. Goleman, a psychologist who has written articles for the New York Times and has authored books and on behavioral science, establishes five emotional intelligence competencies required for successful leaders: self awareness, emotion management, motivation of others, empathy, and staying connected. Self awareness is an understanding of how you feel and who you are; it involves the ability to listen to your deepest instincts and influences your decision making. Self aware leaders are confident, decisive, and know who they are what their strengths and weaknesses are. Emotion management is exhibiting good self control and limiting impulsive reactions. It portrays an Indian in full headdress peeking out from behind palm fronds looking at this ocean liner cutting through the waves. Much hard work has gone into the excavations there by many archaeologists, and many interesting artefacts have been found. He worked on the site for three years with 160 men helping him. In his rush to find the real Troy he dug straight through the other levels until he found a level that looked like it had suffered from burning . He had dug through to level two . He had also found a great stone gate, wide enough to fit two chariots through side by side. This was a massive clue, as Homer had described a similar gateway in his Iliad . As a result of Schliemann s unorganised dig he had destroyed other levels of troy which were more likely to be the Troy Homer described. Schliemann had many convinced that he had found the fallen city of Troy, but others were not so sure. He needed something to prove that this was the Troy from the Trojan War. Then during his last season of excavation at the location of Troy he found it, King Priam s lost treasure. He dug out the treasure, and placed them on his wife which he then took a photo of . It turned out that Schliemann s wife wasn t even in the country when he found the treasure. There was also suspicion that he had just bought the jewels from an antique shop in the town. Anne Sexton was a famous poet of confessional poetry, where the poets write about their private experiences with feelings about death, trauma, and depression in their lives. Anne Sexton wrote from the point of view of an upper middle class woman. She had two children, and the stress of having them, gave her life long depression. Sexton was sent to a psychiatric hospital after the birth of her second child. The Abortion displays all of Sexton s feelings that she has about her abortion. Sexton sets off the poem [driving] south (Sexton 5). She is describing her trip to go and get her child aborted, and she sees the road sunken like a gray washboard (9). The road is extremely rough and bumpy, which is often an unpleasant surface to drive on. • 29. The Consequences Of The Goose Girl, A Fairy Tale Goose Girl is a fairy tale collected by the Grimm brothers who s story line is about a young Princess arranged for a marriage with a far away prince, and is deceived from her title on her way to her bridegroom. Deceived and over powered by her waiting woman, the Princess shows development, but our dreamer for this analysis is the waiting woman. Fairy tales are all about embracing birth rights, and this is exactly what the waiting woman is deviant about: she broke from the system and tries to work her way up a class that she is not born into. The waiting woman struggles with her individuation, the process of accepting the daily events. Through this analysis, the consequences of not accepting the life you are born to live will serve as an example of a deeper evil. First, to begin this analysis, the archetypes are to be assigned. We will start with the shadow, represented by the Princess. Accordingly, this is a same sex character that at first embodies the elements a waiting woman should have: quiet, submissive, and compliant because she had to give away and let it be as [the waiting woman] said (583). The Princess carries the qualities that are considered to be expected of a waiting woman. The opposite sex character that represents the animus in the waiting woman s story is the horse, Falada. The horse noticed and remembered the acts the waiting woman commits, so she later on tries to get rid of the horse, who later develops the story in an indirect way (583). The waiting woman s self is represented by the casket dragged by horses idea she pitched in for the King. Her refusal to become who she was intended to be led her to declaring her own fate. Moreover, to explain these labels, the important events relevant to the development of the waiting woman should be recognized and explained. The waiting woman is first set on her journey to fulfill her duties beside the Princess after mounting their respective horses. On both occasions that the Princes has been thirsty, the waiting woman declares I will not be your slave. If you want a drink, you may get it yourself; I am not going to be your slave (582). • 35. The Film Angela s Ashes Angela s Ashes The lead actor s life in the film Angela s Ashes can be explored through western and cultural theories of human development. Although the story is titled Angela s Ashes for me the focal character was Frankie (Francis) McCourt. His complex and tumultuous life drove the story from beginning to end and although his mother Angela was very important she was part and parcel of the bigger picture that was Frankie McCourt s life story (Parker, 1999). For me the story resonates the resilience of young people and their ability and inability to work their way through life. The amount of sadness, instability and constant impoverishment would have broken most, but Frankie in his role as eldest brother and son always seemed to find a way to cope and move forward. Both Cultural and Western theorists would have had a field day with the reality of Frankie s life, but in looking at the ideas of two specific theorists to endeavour to make sense of his journey I chose cultural theorist Mason Durie and western theorist Albert Bandura. Mason Durie s Te Whare Tapa Wha model looks at the individual as a whole piece that needs four parts to function; taha wairua (spiritual), taha hinegaro (mental), taha tinana (physical), taha whanau (family) (Durie, 1998). If one part is having difficulty, one or all of the other three parts will take the strain in some way in order for the individual to function as normal as possible. Motion Picture Industry Essay Motion Picture Industry Data is important and a main stream form of communication throughout the world; however, without being able to represent the data in a format that is easily understandable, then the data will not be as useful. Anderson, Sweeney, Williams, Camm, Cochran (2015) define data as the facts and figures collected, analyzed, and summarized for presentation and interpretation (p. 5). It is important for statisticians, mangers, and employees to collect and present statistical data in accurate and easy to read format. When presenting data to managers for instance, the easiest form of communication, yet effectively provide details as to the importance of the data to the applicable situation should be used. Scientists use data to measure scientific results; such as, comparing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere over the last 650,000 years (NASA, 2015) See Appendix A. In business, data is found in all parts of industry; such as, accounting, finance, marketing, production, economics, and information systems (Anderson et al, 2015, p. 3 5). In the case of this study, the results will be shown as a managerial report from an accumulation of data showing the financial success of 100 motion pictures on the years 20XX in the following categories: Rank, Movie Title, Opening Gross, Total Gross, Theaters (number of) and Weeks (weeks shown). • 39. Themes Of The Four Quartets Manganiello focuses on the interplay between Dante and Eliot manifested in their use of the Incarnation. Drawing on the intent search of the confused speaker of The Waste Land, Manganiello proposes that the Four Quartets answers the search for the essential word with Logos. The epigraphs for Burnt Norton, the opening quartet, center around Logos and the intersections of time. Manganiello fleshes out Eliot s exploration of time and eternity through the lens of the Incarnation. The Incarnation is, of course, the meeting of divinity and humanity, of time and timelessness, of Logos and flesh. Drawing on Dante s comparison of God to both a circle and a point the eternal and the temporal Manganiello begins utilizing images from the Divine Comedy, specifically the Paradiso, to provide a deeper understanding of Eliot s themes in the Four Quartets. Focusing specifically on Burnt Norton, Manganiello narrows in on the rose garden, examining the primal memories of both an earthly and supra terrestrial paradise of bliss it triggers. He eventually concludes that, Eliot, like Dante, invites the reader to cross over from the human to the divine, from time to eternity (111). Switching his focus to the intersection of time and eternity in the Incarnation, Manganiello discusses an article Eliot translated for the Criterion entitled On Reading Einstein . The article, written by Charles Mauron, argues that Einstein s theory of relativity does not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Forest Fires FOREST FIRES A forestfire is any uncontrolled fire in combustible vegetation that occurs in the countryside or a wilderness area.[1][2] Other names such as brush fire, bushfire, forest fire, grass fire, hill fire, peat fire, vegetation fire, veldfire, and wildland fire may be used to describe the same phenomenon depending on the type of vegetation being burned. A wildfire differs from other fires by its extensive size, the speed at which it can spread out from its original source, its potential to change direction unexpectedly, and its ability to jump gaps such as roads, rivers and fire breaks.[3] Forest fires are characterized in terms of the cause of ignition, their physical properties such as speed of propagation, the combustible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This fuel type is especially susceptible to ignition due to spotting. Ground fires typically burn by smoldering, and can burn slowly for days to months, such as peat fires in Kalimantan and Eastern Sumatra, Indonesia, which resulted from a riceland creation project that unintentionally drained and dried the peat.[29][30] * Crawling or surface fires are fueled by low lying vegetation such as leaf and timber litter, debris, grass, and low lying shrubbery.[31] * Ladder fires consume material between low level vegetation and tree canopies, such as small trees, downed logs, and vines. Kudzu, Old World climbing fern, and other invasive plants that scale trees may also encourage ladder fires.[32] * Crown, canopy, or aerial fires burn suspended material at the canopy level, such as tall trees, vines, and mosses. The ignition of a crown fire, termed crowning, is dependent on the density of the suspended material, canopy height, canopy continuity, and sufficient surface and ladder fires in order to reach the tree crowns.[33] For example, ground clearing fires lit by humans can spread into the Amazon rain forest, damaging ecosystems not particularly suited for heat or arid conditions.[34] Physical properties Forest fires occur when all of the necessary elements of a fire triangle come together in a wooded area: an ignition source is brought into contact with a ... • 42. A Society On The Struggles Of Women Essay Introduction This purpose of this paper is to educate the society on the struggles of women in the scientific field and the unfair treatment when it comes to accomplishments and pay for these hardworking individuals. Back in time, men have always been superior to women almost in every way except for staying home, keeping the place tidy, and taking care of children. When it came to education and work, men were definitely the dominant sex in these areas. Today, women have showed their strength and perseverance in education and career, but they still experience discrimination and pay gaps in the scientific field. Why are there more men than women present in this career path? From a female who is in this field, there is a clear pattern in the office area of the chemistry department here at Montclair State University. There are currently fourteen males who teach the subject of chemistry compared to three females. This paper will help to demonstrate the statistics and problems that are faced by women. Another science, physics, also has very few women in its field and this is showed in Eileen Pollack s The New York Times article Why Are There Still So Few Women in Science? when she mentions The new study goes a long way toward providing hard evidence of a continuing bias against women in the sciences. Only one fifth of physics Ph.D. s in this country are awarded to women,...; of all the physics professors in the United States, only 14 percent are women (Pollack, 2013). ... However, lower class gang members are not able to communicate through materialistic possessions. With no economic power, these teenagers often turn to violence as an alternate from of power. Middle class teenagers do not have to fear for their lives every day. Instead they worry more about being accepted into the right crowds and owning lots of expensive items to show off. Most people fail to realize gang members are products of a bad environment that they are forced to live in. Immigrant families arrive with little money and have no choice but to live in bad neighborhoods. Society sees ghettos that are overfilled with immigrants and gangs so all low class minority teens end up being stereotyped as being gangsters. The violence is not only on the streets but also at home. Often times, lower class minority teens come from unstable homes.
