The Old Man Isn t Here Anymore Essay
Analyzing the Reading of :
The Old Man Isn t There Anymore
By Kellie Schmitt
1. Schmitt s purpose in writing this travel narrative, is to show the differences between the Chinese
and American cultures, when it comes to many different things. Main examples in this narrative are;
living under the same roof, loss of a loved one, and funeral etiquette. In the Chinese culture it is
excepted to come into common areas in your under clothing. Where in America, this would not be
appropriate at all. In most places in America, law enforcement would be called on some one outside of
their living area in nothing but their underwear and shoes. The narrative shows the many differences
in funeral etiquette. One such being, white floors being the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The author went into great detail with the funeral to make sure we completely understood her
observation, as well as her feelings of loss herself.
3. I believe so much of the article is dedicated to the funeral and cremation, because the writer wants
us to not only see the vast differences between the two cultures, American and Chinese. But, to
experience the feelings it is bringing up from the writers past, and her present. Her feelings of loss of
the grandfather that died before she was born, and the loss of the buzz cut grandpa she had come to
look forward to seeing. As for the cremation, in America, we as a culture would be outraged to pay
extra for our loved on to be cremated alone. Never would we think it acceptable for more than one
person to be cremated at the same time. The wearing of the patch of black on the sleeve, is similar to
the black garters that are worn around the arms at certain funerals in the American culture; in
particular that of a fallen officer or team mate. All of these descriptions are helpful to us as the reader,
in order to give us a clearer mental picture of what is going on during the funeral and cremation of the
buzz cut grandpa .
4. Schmitt s tone in this article, is not a somber one. I feel that her tone is, one of respect and gratitude.
At no time during my reading, did I feel as if the author wanted me to feel sad. Instead, I felt as if the
author wanted the reader to know how

Economic Growth Is A Macroeconomic Policy Objective For...
DEFINITION Economic growth is a macroeconomic policy objective for countries. The growth of
economies have two meanings. First, economic growth means the gross domestic product (GDP)
increases within the given period of time. The increases in GDP also means the increase in the value of
national output or national expenditure. The other meaning is the increasing of production when using
all the scarce resources, which can be showed in the PPF(Production Possibility Frontier). In the
diagram below, the outward shift of the PPF shows that the productive capacity has increased in the

high level of unemployment, the amount of output also reduced due to the reduction in the number of
workers contributing to the output. As the high unemployment occur, government must to allocate

Fossil Fuel And Alternative Sources Of Energy
Energy Policy
Jameisha Lyttle
Gwynedd Mercy University
Abstract The United States government, as well as many others around the world, have relied on fossil
fuel as an energy source for a long period of time. The extraction, production, and development of
these sources have contributed to the many issues with the environment. In addition to this, fossil fuel
will not exist forever because there is a limited amount on earth and it cannot be restored. For this
reason, the United states should consider substituting fossil fuel with alternative sources of energy.
Switching to alternative source may save the Earth and may pose as a more sustainable source of
energy.
Although fossil fuels have been relied on for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alternative energy sources can be a sufficient replacement for fossil fuel because some forms of
alternative energy are recyclable and may be safer for the environment. For example, wind energy
does not cause any types of pollutants that can damage the health of people all over the world. Wind
Energy may be created by machines called wind turbines, that look like plane propellers on a long and
steep pole. The blowing winds are able to turn its propellers to provide energy for an electric generator
that distributes electric currents. These wind turbines have the strength to provide energy for any small
or large business all over the world (National Geographic, n.d.). Another form of alternative energy
that may provide a safer environment than fossil fuels has is solar energy. When solar energy panels
are hit by a ray of sun, the material produces an electrical charge that can be transferred through a
circuit to anything that is powered by electricity (United States Environmental Protection Agency,
2012). These two alternative forms of energy can produce large quantities of power by using the Earth
s natural resources. This may lead to less pollution as well as protection of the Earth s landscape in the
future.
In the United States, many citizens have agreed that alternative energy sources may serve as a safer
form of power. For example, a team of students from Harvard

Heathrow Terminal 5 Risk Management Essay
Introduction
Work on the London Heathrow terminal 5(T5) began in 2002 after a 4 year public enquiry. It took six
years to build at a cost of £4.3bn. The facility, situated on a 251hectar site had 6000 people working
on site at any one time (Health and Safety Executive, 2005). It boasts of 30,000 square meters of glass
walls, has 60 new aircraft stands and includes 13km of tunnels which were bored for baggage
handling and rail links (BBC, 2007a).
This report will be evaluating the project risk management in the construction of T5 airport. It will
start with a brief background on Heathrow terminal 5. The report will then take a critical look at some
of the British Airport Authority s (BAA) method of risk allocation and identification. It ... Show more

In getting all parties involved to work as part of an integrated team, the risk identification process
would have involved a larger number of people and increased the identified sources of risk for the
project. This fundamental relationship between project parties played a huge role in the success of the
project with regards to time and cost. (Davies et al, 2009)
Another area that BAA also identified as a major source of risk going into the project was the
Information Technology (IT) systems that would go into T5. The head of systems for BAA, Nick
Gaines stressed that the IT systems represented the largest risk to the entire project ( Illet, 2006).This
is further supported by the fact that T5 underwent 6 months of testing prior to it s opening, most of
which was to do with its IT systems integration including the baggage system (BBC, 2007b)
Risk allocation
As mentioned in the introduction, allocating risk in financial terms to different parties is encouraged
as good practice.BAA however took on an entirely different approach to their allocation of risk by
choosing to take on all the risk. They went against the normal convention of contractual agreements
which are normally reactive in their nature and mostly end up with a focus on each party involved
claiming against the other for any extra

Space Exploration: Apollo missions
By Kenneth Hanks FDSCI 101 41 fall 2015 10/30/2015
What was the motivation that led to the discovery?
The Apollo program was conceived during the Eisenhower administration in 1960. Up until this time
the US space program had only supported one astronaut in flight. The Apollo program would carry 3
astronauts. The motivation was to be able to orbit 3 instead of 2 or 1. At the beginning of the research
and design into Apollo, the trips to the moon were not anticipated until the far future. The US was
perceived to be behind the USSR in space exploration. President Kennedy changed all that.
What questions were asked?

Without NASA s adoption of this stubbornly held minority opinion in 1962, the United States may
still have reached the Moon, but almost certainly it would not have been accomplished by the end of
the 1960s, President Kennedy s target date.

The Pros And Cons Of Contract Between Kishan And Balli
Introduction Kishan, a farmer, offered to sell the good quality barley to Balli, a horse trainer, who
accepted the said offer. But at the time of the delivery, Balli on getting intimated that the barley is new,
refused to accept the barley and told Kishan to take it back, stating that he thought that the barley was
old and since it is new, he will not take it. Kishan decided to sue Balli. We will see if Balli can revoke
the contract on the basis of mistake of fact and also, is the fact fundamentally different so as to affect
the contract. We will use the objective and subjective intention test for the parties. Issues 1) Is there a
valid contract between Kishan and Balli? 2) Can one revoke a contract at the time of the ... Show more

They negotiate the price and both the plaintiff and defendant agree with the cost of the barley to be
Rs.125 per kilo. According to Section 10 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, an enforceable contract is
formed between the plaintiff and the defendant. The defendant thought the barley was old when it was
not. Clearly, there is a mistake as to the quality of the goods contracted for. The barley is not
essentially different as to affect assent as seen in the case of Kennedy v. Panama Mail Co.Ltd and
therefore the contract cannot be pleaded void under section 20 of the Indian Contract Act,1872.
Whether the barley is new or old, it is totally irrelevant to the case. As per section 13 of the Indian
Contract Act, 1872, both the parties were in consensus ad idem because the deal was only about
selling and buying good quality barley and that was what the plaintiff had provided. And we will take
into account the objective test of intention and not the subjective test of intention as this is done in
order to avoid the evidential difficulties associated with an inquiry into the actual state of mind of a
party to the contract . But had the barley been of anything but of good quality, then there would have
been a breach of contract by the plaintiff but that was not the case. And as per the argument of the
plaintiff, there was no mention of old or new, before the forming of the contract by either of the parties
concerned. Thus, mistake as to the quality of the barley in terms of being new or old will not affect the
contract as seen in Smith v. Hughes. As contrary to what the defendant had said, the principle of
uberrimae fidei cannot be applied here as this is a contract for the sale of goods . The plaintiff was
under no duty to have told the defendant

Ode To The West Wind Essay
Theme : Inspiration in amp;#8220;Ode to the West Wind ;
amp;#8220;When composition begins, inspiration is already on the decline ; P. B. Shelley
Shelley deals with the theme of inspiration in much of his work. However it is particularly apparent in
amp;#8216;Ode to the West Wind amp;#8217; where the wind is the source of his creativity. The
cycles of death and rebirth are examined in an historical context with reference to The Bible. The
word inspiration has several connotations that Shelley uses in this amp;#8216;Ode amp;#8217;.

Coupled with the elusiveness of the wind to the human eye the effect is that the wind is an
amp;#8220;uncontrollable ; power that cannot be contained. In the fifth stanza Shelley refers to
amp;#8220;the incantation of this verse ;(l.65) this is of pagan origins and he is invoking the wind to
work through him. As a magician the wind works it amp;#8217;s magic throughout nature and it
knows no bounds as the earth, water and air all feel it amp;#8217;s power. The imagery associated
with this suggests that Shelley expected his work to also spread over the universe, like the wind, and
inspire others just as the wind was an inspiration to him. The amp;#8220;dead thoughts ; he refers to
could be the words he has written down that die as soon as they are recorded. Although not the source
of his inspiration others could read them and experience what he felt in that wood that skirts the Arno.
In the tradition of the sublime this description acts as a denial of sense perception and it is associated
with an object of pure thought an unknown power that animates all life. The wind is, therefore, seen as
a spirit because of its lack of being. This spirit can only be known by it amp;#8217;s effects and we
see those in the first stanza as amp;#8220;the leaves dead / Are driven amp;#8230; to their wintry bed
;(ll. 2,3,6). The wind amp;#8217;s role is to spread the dead leaves and this enables the seeds to spread
and begin life anew. In this double role of

Reflection On Career Development
A. This lesson mainly addressed aspects related to career development. This lesson encourages
students to discover their academic and personal strengths, their skillsets, and their interests. Students
then take those concepts and apply them to career exploration. They are able to link their strengths,
preferences, and abilities to potential future career paths. Some of the specific aspects of career
development that I addressed include applying planning and career exploration in setting and
obtaining lifelong career goals, applying necessary skills for career readiness and success, and
teaching students where and how to obtain information about post secondary options. In this lesson
students are encouraged to apply decision making skills to place different careers into the appropriate
career fields. In doing so, they are also encouraged to begin thinking about careers that are of interest
to them and what career goals they have for themselves. They will be given resources in order to
continue career exploration outside of the classroom. While I do not expect sixth graders to fully
decide their career path, it is my firm belief that it is never too early to get students thinking about
careers and having them set goals in order to obtain the career and future that they desire. I also
believe that this unit touches on social and emotional development as well as academic development.
This lesson allows the student to collaborate with one another and work in groups as well as in pairs.
This promotes relationship building and teamwork. It also allows students to take an inventory of their
personal strengths and skillsets. This could boost self esteem and promotes a sense of self awareness.
Lastly, this unit also encompasses academic development. Students will understand that good grades
and academic success are key elements to obtaining the career that they wish to have. By being
academically successful, this will allow them greater options and opportunity post high school
graduation.
B. In today s world, I feel as though it is very important to incorporate technology into lesson plans.
Technology helps keep children engaged and we are now living in a world where technology is all

In A Hunger Artist the artist joins the circus and wants to astound the world by setting a fasting record.
However, the more the artist fasted the more the crowds ignored him. Critic R.O.C. Winkler suggests
that the crowds ignored the artist because of a corruption in the relationships between humans.iii[iii]
The corruption is seen when a passer by stopped and looked at the old figure on the sign and spoke of
swindling . The comment made by the passer by cheated the hunger artist of his recognition, and
showed the world s inborn malice and indifference . The hunger artist s eroded cage, comprised of
dirty and illegible placards, the pointless sign tracking the days of the fast and dirty straw, further
signified the corruption in the relationship between the hunger artist and the world. During Kafka s
lifetime he saw a shift in his audience s attention and felt alienated by modern society.iv
As the hunger artist sought the crowd s attention he was also trapped in another struggle between his
need for fame and his need for isolation. The struggle is seen when the artist s cage was set up near the
animals in the circus. As people walked to the menagerie they saw the artist and some stayed and
stared and others rushed off to see the animals. Ironically, the artist disliked the people

An Orthodox Jewish Perspective On Happiness
An Orthodox Jewish Perspective On Happiness
Toba Cohen

Capstone
Maalot of Baltimore Social scientists, phychologists, philosophers, and the media are all seeking to
find the true root of happiness and well being. Each views the meaning of happiness differently. Some
of them define happiness in the context of pleasure. How does traditional Judaism define happiness
and suggest its attainment? How does this compare to and differ from the secular goals of happiness?
Traditional Judaism is a religious sect which bases its principals, values, and lifestyle on the Torah.
The Torah was given to Moses by G d on Mount Sinai over 3000 years ago, and has been handed
down through the generations in its unchanging form. Traditional Jews view the Torah as a divine
guidebook for life. The Torah contains instruction about how to live a meaningful life and very
specific details pertaining to the service of man towards G d (Ethics of the Fathers 1:1). The Torah
contains many references to happiness and its attainment. The main word that is used to mean
happiness is simcha. The Jewish people say in the daily prayers, Serve G d with joy (Psalms 100:2). In
Deuteronomy, G d rebukes the Jewish nation and warns them that if they do not follow His words,
they will be cursed with detailed specific punishments. G d attributes all of these punishments to the
fact that they did not serve G d with joy and with a good heart (Deuteronomy, 28:47). To understand
what the word simcha

Two of the most common skin infections are staph infection and ringworm. Skin infections account
for about 14.4% of all adverse events during wrestling. Staph infection can result in boils, painful

the staph infection invades your bloodstream, sepsis can lead to sepsis shock which is a life

Dante s Inferno And Beowulf Analysis
Importance of Name and Remember in Dante s Inferno and Beowulf
One of the important themes that stands out in Dante s epic poem, Inferno , is a theme of legacy via
endurance of one s name. In other words, the human need to have one s name and story shared with
others in an effort to gain some sense of immortality. Even from the depths of hell the characters in the
Inferno express a wish to have their stories told. The Inferno tells of Dante s adventure through the
depths of Hell with the spirit of the great Roman poet Virgil as his guide. In this epic adventure, Dante
treks the Nine Circles of Hell and in each circle he encounters prominent figures in both his personal
life and in history. The poem as a whole is a commentary on sins and transgressions, but the
significance of these transgressions are amplified with the attachment of names we the readers
recognize from history and literature. Among them are figures one would expect to be Hell for their
famous transgressions such as Judas Iscariot, Attila the Hun and Brutus but also more surprisingly
Ulysses, the hero from Homer s Iliad and Odyssey, who is in the Eighth Circle of Hell for the crime of
spiritual theft and Pope Celestine V, whom Dante condemns for abdicating the papacy and thus
allowed Pope Boniface VIII to become the new pope. This was a transgression worthy of hell in Dante
s eyes because historically Pope Boniface VIII was something of a rival to Dante, who had been an
advocate for the separation of

Public Employer Employee Relations Act (PEERA) that became effective in 1972. The document
asserts that the PEERA enforces mandatory responsibilities upon the public employer and the
representatives of public employee organizations to meet and confer and enter into discussions in
good faith with an affirmative willingness to resolve grievances, disputes and to promote the
improvement of employer employee relations (Courtlistener.com). The PEERA, K.S.A. 75 4321 et

A Parliamentary Spirit Of Discovery Persuasive Speech
A Renewed Spirit of Discovery was the title of President Bush s speech for his vision of new Space
Exploration. Since the debate was given on January 14, 2004, it has produced viable concerns from
those who support and oppose the initiative. Arguments for and against it have appeared in all types of
media, and more importantly in the minds of Americans. This Literature Review will discuss many of
these beliefs in order to achieve a well rounded, objective analysis of the issue. But before any
opinions are put forth, it is always important to talk about the relative facts.
Why put forth a new vision?
Over past 30 years, it is hard to say that we have explored space. It is more appropriate to say we have
conquered manned flight in Earth s lower orbit. Truly, the Apollo Missions to the moon, which ended
in the mid 70 s, was also the end to Manned Space. We have continued to build satellites and space
stations to orbit the earth, and robots and satellites to explore Mars and Deep Space. By proposing to
put humans on the Moon and Mars, the President has not changed our manned space exploration
policy; he has created one.
President George W. Bush proposed a new age in Space Exploration on January 14, 2004. The Space
Shuttle Columbia disaster was only part of his reasoning for announcing a new direction for NASA. A
reason not as well known is the current lack of any direction for NASA. Other than sending probes
and robots to Deep Space and Mars, NASA has continued to

Digital Code Of Programming And Software Development Packages
ABSTRACT A text editor is an application which is used to edit the text files. Text editor has
enormous features so they are very important for the user. So various text editors are available with
various operating systems and many software development packages. These text editors can be used to
change the source code of programming languages and various configuration files present inside the
system. Often these are very easy to use as they are small and many others provide a broad range of
utility and functionality. There are a wide range of windows text editors such as Notepad which comes
along with Microsoft Windows systems. This text editor developed in a JAVA platform is a replica of
the word editors we all are familiar with and which we use quite often on a daily basis. The only
difference being that, this editor has been created using JAVA for the front end interface. Text editor in
java is made using the concept of Java Swings and Abstract Window toolkit. Swings consists of a
family of objects and interfaces that can be used to build a graphical user interface for a java program.
Swing consists of various flexible and powerful components of the graphical user interface. The
purpose of the project is to develop a Java like Integrated DevelopmentEnvironment(IDE) for general
use; the JEditor is intended for the small scale developers or programmers. It is simple, easy and user

Purpose Of NSA
The purpose of the National Security Association, sometimes referred to as the NSA, is to protect
citizens from terrorist attacks on our country. The NSA has succeeded because they can invade our
civil liberties to get the information they want. A delicate organization like the NSA struggles to find
the difference between using information, and abusing it. The government abuses our civil liberties by
disregarding the fourth amendment protecting people s privacy. Edward Snowden exposed this.
Snowden was born June 21, 1983, in North Carolina. Later Snowden dropped out of high school, and

neon Essay
Did you know that neon is a Greek word that means quot;new quot;? Neon is the element that I am
most interested in. I chose to do neon because I found out what many uses it has in our daily life.
Neon is the element that allows you to watch TV. Without neon we would never see the cool flashing
signs outside of diners and bars. In my essay I am going to tell you about neon and its many uses.
First, I m going to tell you about the history and uses of neon. Neon was discovered by Sir William
Ramsay, a Scottish chemist, and Morris M. Travers, an English chemist, shortly after their discovery
of the element krypton in 1898. Neon is one of the most amusing elements used today. Neon mixed

All there is to talk about neon now is about how it integrates into our life. To show you the integration
in our society I will demonstrate a situation in which neon comes into play. Imagine walking around in
Las Vegas with your friends looking to have a good time before your business meeting the next day.
You look up and see giant signs that flash and move around advertising casinos and restaurants. Those
signs are discharge tubes holding the active ingredients of our friend neon and his buddy mercury. You
decide to walk into the casino with the biggest, coolest sign that says quot;MGM quot;. You walk into
the casino wondering what to do first, so you walk over to the nearest craps table. You play craps for a
couple hours and decide to cash in and go out to eat with all the money you won. You walk into a
sports bar to get a drink and you notice a TV with the Lakers game on. You look up at the TV and
notice they are losing 84 to 36. The television has a tube in it that holds neon to project things onto the
glass screen you see, without neon you wouldn t be able to watch any of your favorite shows. When
you are finished eating your friends ask if you want to go to the Smithsonian observation museum

B infection could potentially become a chronic disease for some people because they run the risk of
developing liver failure, cirrhosis of the liver or liver cancer if precautions are not taken. Cirrhosis
causes permanent scarring to the liver. Some adults that have become infected with Hepatitis B do
fully recover even if their symptoms are relentless. Symptoms can be mild to more severe and can be

If someone s liver has been severely damaged by the virus, a liver transplant may be an option.
Research on this disease continues and more drugs to treat the infections are being developed. Getting
the Hepatitis B vaccination is a sure way in preventing infection, and taking precautions is important
to follow to keep yourself safe. It is important to understand that a person cannot contract Hepatitis B
from the vaccination, but can surely contract the virus by having unprotected sex. Precautions include
wearing a condom either latex or polyurethane, paying extra special attention to where you would go
if you want to get a tattoo or piercing by making sure they adequately sterilize their equipment. Other
ways to stop the spread of the Hepatitis B are that if a person comes in contact with blood or bodily
fluids, it is very important that they wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water and discard any
type of soiled clothing or items into a bag. Another thing to help prevent the spread of the virus is by
cleaning blood and body fluids off surfaces by using a diluted bleach solution. If a person plans on
traveling to an area that has a high rate of Hepatitis B, they should talk to their doctor about getting
vaccinated which is a series of three to four shots over the course of a six month period. The

different endurance requirements, dedicated payloads and different ground control systems. An
additional important problem to be solved is the integration of UAVs in the civilian airspace, which

The United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates, more commonly referred to as the UAE, gained independence from
England in 1971. The late President, Sheikh Zayid bin Sultan al Nahyan, ruled the UAE from the start
of its sovereignty all the way until his death in 2004 (Rugh, 1997, p. 18). Zayid implemented a federal
monarchy across the state. Unlike many other monarchies, the UAE has sustained great rule while
maintaing peace with its people. Many factors influence this trend and without them the regime of the
UAE would most likely fail. The UAE has flourished for nearly 40 years with a ruling governmental
regime where the majority of power is put into the hands of only a select few by disallowing political
parties and restricting political participation (Rugh, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The federal government oversees major state issues such as immigration, foreign policy, public health,
wealth, transportation, and communications (Heard Bey, 2005, p. 361). But the individual emirates
still have great amounts of power over the residents. The emirates each regulate the economy specific
to its land and the money is given back to the citizens (Rugh, 1997, p.17). Although the federal
government holds the most power, the emirates are still allowed to function with a degree of
independence. The familial and traditional roles held by the leaders of the UAE establish a long
lasting legitimacy throughout the state. The current President and ruler of Abu Dubai is Khalifa bin
Zayid Al Nuhayyan, son of the prior ruler. The Prime Minister, Vice President, and Sheikh of Dubai is
Muhammad Bin Rashid Al Maktum (CIA, 2014). Khalifa bin Zayid was never formally elected to
office, rather he was unanimously appointed to the seat on the same day of his father s funeral.
Because of the legacy and respect Sheikh Zayid created, his son entered office with the entire UAE s
support. The UAE functions tremendously through this charismatic and traditional legitimacy; Sheikh
Zayid was looked up to as a god for his 43 year reign of power. In many states this long standing rule
from one family would not be tolerated by the public, yet it works so well in the UAE because Sheikh
Zayid created and guided the state to such high success immediately after gaining

Summary Of The Robber Barons
In this chapter, Howard Zinn focuses on the robber barons and rebels of the 19th century. Robber
Barons were businessmen who often earned their wealth in dishonest and greedy ways. Favorable
laws were made by the government towards the robber barons. The government helped the rich and
didn t care much for the lower class. Great fortune was made on the transcontinental railroad and the
oil industry. Both of these companies treated their workers poorly and paid them low wages.
Corporations became very powerful by creating monopolies A system in which one corporation
controls all or most of an industry (173 Zinn). Politicians came up with the idea of communism and

High Concentration Lab
Introduction
The purpose of this experiment is to observe the nett movement of particles from regions of high
concentration to low concentration.
Background biology
Agar
Agar is derived from polysaccharide agarose, which forms the supporting structure in the cell walls of
certain species of algae, and is released on boiling. Agar is actually the resulting mixture of two
components: the linear polysaccharide agarose, and a diverse mixture of smaller molecules called
agaropectin.
Diffusion
Diffusion is the movement of substance from an area of high concentration to an area with low
concentration. The rate of diffusion is influenced by a number of factors including the concentration of
the gradient, temperature and the size and chemical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The importance to repeat experiments is to make sure that the results can be replicated, and that the
experiment results were not flawed. For the most accurate measurements, the highest and lowest
numbers measured need to be removed and keep and use the middle measurement.
A pattern emerged with our results, the bigger the cube surface area, the less the cube diffused in the
acid. With only one exception the 2CM block of agar (error). The results emerged shows with a block
with larger surface area, the less it diffuses in this experiment, the acid.
Conclusion
From the results of this investigation agar blocks with higher surface to volume ratio will diffuse
slower than ones with lower surface to volume ratio. This is done by the process of diffusion. The
hypothesis was correct, as the bigger the cube was the less it diffused and the agar had a chemical
reaction with the sulphuric acid. The chemical reaction caused the agar to change its purple colour to
almost transparent.
Abstract
Purpose and procedure The purpose of this experiment is to determine the effect of surface area to

The Nature In Crossing By Mark Slouka
The Nature is many things.
It s one of the realest places to be. The Nature won t lie to you or adjust the reality just so it will please
you. The Nature doesn t care, it does what it wants and then you d just have to deal with it. It
challenges you, forces you to face the reality and most important of all, it makes you confront your
deepest fears and get answers for questions, you didn t even know you had.
Crossing is a short story written by Mark Slouka. It s about a father, who s going on a field trip with
his son. The father has just been divorced and hasn t been happy for a long time, but the nostalgia
about the trip, which he also went on with his own father, and having to spend time with his son,
makes him feel happy.
The short story is told with a third person limited narrator and from the father s point of view. The
narrator is descriptive, the surroundings are all very well described, and there s both indirect and direct
speech throughout the story. The indirect speech is often used when the father thinks back on
conversations he had earlier in his life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a huge part in the story therefore it s important to understand its meaning and significance. The Nature
can reflect ones deepest fears and the father s fears takes form of the river, where he later comes to
face them. Firstly, the river makes him scared. It s been a long time since he had last seen it. He
remembered it differently, not as strong and big as it has come to be. Well there she is, he said. (p.2,

White Privilege Analysis
I recently read a news article that almost seemed like satire to me. It was about how a Connecticut
town s diversity council held an essay contest and its prompt was to discuss how white privilege had
impacted the lives of people in the town. As you could expect from a predominantly white, suburban
town, the essay contest received backlash. The public was outraged and became defensive. One of the
people in the town is quoted in saying, There are no barricades here. Nobody says if you are black or
whatever, you can t move here (Theroot.com). The sheer oblivion and refusal to discuss the existence
of racism in a primarily white town is the epitome of white privilege.
Privilege is defined as a right, immunity, or benefit enjoyed only by a person beyond the advantages of
most (Dictionary.com). If we live in a country where even the discussion of the privilege of causes
controversy, we are living in a state of denial. Efforts to engage in political discussion are too often
deemed as inappropriate or offensive. The only way to understand white privilege is to maturely
engage in conversations about the topic. America is founded on diversity and it would not be what it ...

How Did Robber Barons Affect The Economy
Money makes the world go around so that people could either become rich or poor. The whole issue

Another Businessman who was partial to Robber Barons may have been John D. Rockefeller for his
method of attaining a large share of the oil industry many believed that Rockefeller gained his power

simply used horizontal consolidation to bring different firms with the same business together. It could
not be called a monopoly because they did not merge into one company. John D. Rockefeller did
establish trusts or Board of Trusties, which controlled the entire process of making and controlling a
product which was extremely similar to that of a monopoly. Because of Rockefeller s Horizontal
Consolidation, he did not violate any laws. When he was also near the end of his life Rockefeller also

businessmen have resorted to violence of their own by hiring the Pinker tons to handle any upstart or

  • 2. The Old Man Isn t Here Anymore Essay Analyzing the Reading of : The Old Man Isn t There Anymore By Kellie Schmitt 1. Schmitt s purpose in writing this travel narrative, is to show the differences between the Chinese and American cultures, when it comes to many different things. Main examples in this narrative are; living under the same roof, loss of a loved one, and funeral etiquette. In the Chinese culture it is excepted to come into common areas in your under clothing. Where in America, this would not be appropriate at all. In most places in America, law enforcement would be called on some one outside of their living area in nothing but their underwear and shoes. The narrative shows the many differences in funeral etiquette. One such being, white floors being the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author went into great detail with the funeral to make sure we completely understood her observation, as well as her feelings of loss herself. 3. I believe so much of the article is dedicated to the funeral and cremation, because the writer wants us to not only see the vast differences between the two cultures, American and Chinese. But, to experience the feelings it is bringing up from the writers past, and her present. Her feelings of loss of the grandfather that died before she was born, and the loss of the buzz cut grandpa she had come to look forward to seeing. As for the cremation, in America, we as a culture would be outraged to pay extra for our loved on to be cremated alone. Never would we think it acceptable for more than one person to be cremated at the same time. The wearing of the patch of black on the sleeve, is similar to the black garters that are worn around the arms at certain funerals in the American culture; in particular that of a fallen officer or team mate. All of these descriptions are helpful to us as the reader, in order to give us a clearer mental picture of what is going on during the funeral and cremation of the buzz cut grandpa . 4. Schmitt s tone in this article, is not a somber one. I feel that her tone is, one of respect and gratitude. At no time during my reading, did I feel as if the author wanted me to feel sad. Instead, I felt as if the author wanted the reader to know how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

First, economic growth means the gross domestic product (GDP) increases within the given period of time. The increases in GDP also means the increase in the value of national output or national expenditure. The other meaning is the increasing of production when using all the scarce resources, which can be showed in the PPF(Production Possibility Frontier). In the diagram below, the outward shift of the PPF shows that the productive capacity has increased in the long run, with the determinant of the quantity and quality of land, labour, capital and enterprise. The diagram showed above that the unemployment trend of Uk was rising after 2008 financial crisis, when economy is in the recession. The economy started to slow after 2008,and there are many worker who lost their jobs. What is more, when there is a high level of unemployment, the amount of output also reduced due to the reduction in the number of workers contributing to the output. As the high unemployment occur, government must to allocate more tax revenues to the social welfare, such as job seeker allowance. And the high unemployment easily cause the social security problem, and the increasing rate of the crime. 1+2.消费Both lower income and increasing unemployment lead to the decrease of the consumption. If the consumption decline, using the formula of AD=G+C+I+(X M),the aggregate demand will fall as well. Fossil Fuel And Alternative Sources Of Energy Energy Policy Jameisha Lyttle Gwynedd Mercy University Abstract The United States government, as well as many others around the world, have relied on fossil fuel as an energy source for a long period of time. The extraction, production, and development of these sources have contributed to the many issues with the environment. In addition to this, fossil fuel will not exist forever because there is a limited amount on earth and it cannot be restored. For this reason, the United states should consider substituting fossil fuel with alternative sources of energy. Alternative energy sources can be a sufficient replacement for fossil fuel because some forms of alternative energy are recyclable and may be safer for the environment. For example, wind energy does not cause any types of pollutants that can damage the health of people all over the world. Wind Energy may be created by machines called wind turbines, that look like plane propellers on a long and steep pole. The blowing winds are able to turn its propellers to provide energy for an electric generator that distributes electric currents. These wind turbines have the strength to provide energy for any small or large business all over the world (National Geographic, n.d.). Another form of alternative energy that may provide a safer environment than fossil fuels has is solar energy. When solar energy panels are hit by a ray of sun, the material produces an electrical charge that can be transferred through a circuit to anything that is powered by electricity (United States Environmental Protection Agency, 2012). These two alternative forms of energy can produce large quantities of power by using the Earth s natural resources. This may lead to less pollution as well as protection of the Earth s landscape in the future. In the United States, many citizens have agreed that alternative energy sources may serve as a safer form of power. For example, a team of students from Harvard ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In getting all parties involved to work as part of an integrated team, the risk identification process would have involved a larger number of people and increased the identified sources of risk for the project. This fundamental relationship between project parties played a huge role in the success of the project with regards to time and cost. (Davies et al, 2009) Another area that BAA also identified as a major source of risk going into the project was the Information Technology (IT) systems that would go into T5. The head of systems for BAA, Nick Gaines stressed that the IT systems represented the largest risk to the entire project ( Illet, 2006).This is further supported by the fact that T5 underwent 6 months of testing prior to it s opening, most of which was to do with its IT systems integration including the baggage system (BBC, 2007b) Risk allocation As mentioned in the introduction, allocating risk in financial terms to different parties is encouraged as good practice.BAA however took on an entirely different approach to their allocation of risk by choosing to take on all the risk. They went against the normal convention of contractual agreements which are normally reactive in their nature and mostly end up with a focus on each party involved claiming against the other for any extra ... The Apollo program would carry 3 astronauts. The motivation was to be able to orbit 3 instead of 2 or 1. At the beginning of the research and design into Apollo, the trips to the moon were not anticipated until the far future. The US was perceived to be behind the USSR in space exploration. According to Section 10 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, an enforceable contract is formed between the plaintiff and the defendant. The defendant thought the barley was old when it was not. Clearly, there is a mistake as to the quality of the goods contracted for. The barley is not essentially different as to affect assent as seen in the case of Kennedy v. Panama Mail Co.Ltd and therefore the contract cannot be pleaded void under section 20 of the Indian Contract Act,1872. Whether the barley is new or old, it is totally irrelevant to the case. As per section 13 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872, both the parties were in consensus ad idem because the deal was only about selling and buying good quality barley and that was what the plaintiff had provided. And we will take into account the objective test of intention and not the subjective test of intention as this is done in order to avoid the evidential difficulties associated with an inquiry into the actual state of mind of a party to the contract . But had the barley been of anything but of good quality, then there would have been a breach of contract by the plaintiff but that was not the case. And as per the argument of the plaintiff, there was no mention of old or new, before the forming of the contract by either of the parties concerned. Thus, mistake as to the quality of the barley in terms of being new or old will not affect the contract as seen in Smith v. Hughes. As contrary to what the defendant had said, the principle of uberrimae fidei cannot be applied here as this is a contract for the sale of goods . As a magician the wind works it amp;#8217;s magic throughout nature and it knows no bounds as the earth, water and air all feel it amp;#8217;s power. The imagery associated with this suggests that Shelley expected his work to also spread over the universe, like the wind, and inspire others just as the wind was an inspiration to him. This lesson encourages students to discover their academic and personal strengths, their skillsets, and their interests. Students then take those concepts and apply them to career exploration. They are able to link their strengths, preferences, and abilities to potential future career paths. Some of the specific aspects of career development that I addressed include applying planning and career exploration in setting and obtaining lifelong career goals, applying necessary skills for career readiness and success, and teaching students where and how to obtain information about post secondary options. In this lesson students are encouraged to apply decision making skills to place different careers into the appropriate career fields. In doing so, they are also encouraged to begin thinking about careers that are of interest to them and what career goals they have for themselves. They will be given resources in order to continue career exploration outside of the classroom. While I do not expect sixth graders to fully decide their career path, it is my firm belief that it is never too early to get students thinking about careers and having them set goals in order to obtain the career and future that they desire. I also believe that this unit touches on social and emotional development as well as academic development. This lesson allows the student to collaborate with one another and work in groups as well as in pairs. This promotes relationship building and teamwork. It also allows students to take an inventory of their personal strengths and skillsets. This could boost self esteem and promotes a sense of self awareness. Lastly, this unit also encompasses academic development. Students will understand that good grades and academic success are key elements to obtaining the career that they wish to have. By being academically successful, this will allow them greater options and opportunity post high school graduation. B. Traditional Jews view the Torah as a divine guidebook for life. The Torah contains many references to happiness and its attainment. The main word that is used to mean happiness is simcha. The Jewish people say in the daily prayers, Serve G d with joy (Psalms 100:2). In Deuteronomy, G d rebukes the Jewish nation and warns them that if they do not follow His words, they will be cursed with detailed specific punishments. G d attributes all of these punishments to the fact that they did not serve G d with joy and with a good heart (Deuteronomy, 28:47). To understand what the word simcha ... Dante s Inferno And Beowulf Analysis Importance of Name and Remember in Dante s Inferno and Beowulf One of the important themes that stands out in Dante s epic poem, Inferno , is a theme of legacy via endurance of one s name. In other words, the human need to have one s name and story shared with others in an effort to gain some sense of immortality. Even from the depths of hell the characters in the Inferno express a wish to have their stories told. The Inferno tells of Dante s adventure through the depths of Hell with the spirit of the great Roman poet Virgil as his guide. In this epic adventure, Dante treks the Nine Circles of Hell and in each circle he encounters prominent figures in both his personal life and in history. The poem as a whole is a commentary on sins and transgressions, but the significance of these transgressions are amplified with the attachment of names we the readers recognize from history and literature. Among them are figures one would expect to be Hell for their famous transgressions such as Judas Iscariot, Attila the Hun and Brutus but also more surprisingly Ulysses, the hero from Homer s Iliad and Odyssey, who is in the Eighth Circle of Hell for the crime of spiritual theft and Pope Celestine V, whom Dante condemns for abdicating the papacy and thus allowed Pope Boniface VIII to become the new pope. Arguments for and against it have appeared in all types of media, and more importantly in the minds of Americans. This Literature Review will discuss many of these beliefs in order to achieve a well rounded, objective analysis of the issue. But before any opinions are put forth, it is always important to talk about the relative facts. Why put forth a new vision? Over past 30 years, it is hard to say that we have explored space. This is due to several reasons, including e.g. civilian UAVs (CUAVs) requiring different technological solutions such as optimized platforms, different endurance requirements, dedicated payloads and different ground control systems. An additional important problem to be solved is the integration of UAVs in the civilian airspace, which will require the adoption of civilian airworthiness standards and proven safety features. Last but not least trust has to be created, both at the public sectors and the commercial community, that CUAVs have economic advantages ( Vanclay 2003) One of the main hyposisthist that is surrounding the inhabitation of the advantages of UAVs, ... The late President, Sheikh Zayid bin Sultan al Nahyan, ruled the UAE from the start of its sovereignty all the way until his death in 2004 (Rugh, 1997, p. 18). Zayid implemented a federal monarchy across the state. Unlike many other monarchies, the UAE has sustained great rule while maintaing peace with its people. Many factors influence this trend and without them the regime of the UAE would most likely fail. The emirates each regulate the economy specific to its land and the money is given back to the citizens (Rugh, 1997, p.17). Although the federal government holds the most power, the emirates are still allowed to function with a degree of independence. The familial and traditional roles held by the leaders of the UAE establish a long lasting legitimacy throughout the state. • 35. White Privilege Analysis I recently read a news article that almost seemed like satire to me. It was about how a Connecticut town s diversity council held an essay contest and its prompt was to discuss how white privilege had impacted the lives of people in the town. As you could expect from a predominantly white, suburban town, the essay contest received backlash. The public was outraged and became defensive. One of the people in the town is quoted in saying, There are no barricades here. Nobody says if you are black or whatever, you can t move here (Theroot.com). The sheer oblivion and refusal to discuss the existence of racism in a primarily white town is the epitome of white privilege. Privilege is defined as a right, immunity, or benefit enjoyed only by a person beyond the advantages of most (Dictionary.com). If we live in a country where even the discussion of the privilege of causes controversy, we are living in a state of denial. Efforts to engage in political discussion are too often deemed as inappropriate or offensive. The only way to understand white privilege is to maturely engage in conversations about the topic.
