Fgc Or Female Genital Cutting Summary
This week s encounter with FGC or Female Genital Cutting disturbed me and my eyes were opened to
some of the harsh realities in the world. Everyone in the class was either assigned to be pro FGC or
against. Based on which side of the argument you were assigned, each side read an article defending
that side, and everyone watched the same documentary on a journey of a young woman in Africa
leading up to her coming of age ceremony involving genital cutting. Throughout the video, you can
tell that FGC is a common and important practice in West African Societies. A teenager named Mary
was preparing for the coming of age ceremony, and the nervousness was noticeable. Someone who
actually does the cutting was interviewed, and she discussed her livelihood and how there is a certain
technique to the practice. Finally the time come for Mary to become a woman and the cutting came
and went. The ceremony was at the very least hard to watch. The pain was clear in the aftermath, but
the celebration continued and Mary seemed fine at the end. Also, a woman named Alice ... Show more

The side that was pro FGC, wasn t necessarily pro mutilation, but was against the Western nations
imposing their so called superior teachings and culture upon the Africans. The issue of Imperialism
along with the stigma attached with someone who was mutilated . The article discussed how the
stigma surrounding a woman who was cut is similar to using the N word to describe someone of
African descent. The side against FGC brought up many solid arguments including health problems,
and mental toil on the recipient. Many health problems come along with FGC, as many women have
to be cut open to have intercourse with their husbands, and then resown. Thousands of women every
year either die or suffer serious and life lasting injuries due to this tradition. While no one was pro
imperialism, the idea of educating the people who practice this tradition seemed

Contributions Of Early English Language
Contributions to Early English Orthography
What influenced English orthography to be what it is today? How did early English writers derive the
spellings of certain words? One possible answer to these questions is addressed by Jerzy Welna in his
article On Early Pseudo Learned Orthographic Forms: A Contribution to the History of English
Spelling and Pronunciation published in Studia Anglica Posnaniensia.
Welna formats his argument as a numbered list where he touches on one spelling pattern adapted into
English, provides proof of this change in text, and then moves on to the next orthographic adaptation.
While Welna does provide solid, detailed evidence from one of his prior papers to support his point,
he does not define the specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is clear that Welna is well versed on this topic not only because of his apparent knowledge, but
because he has also written another article on the subject in the past. While discussing the Middle
English period and when it showed orthographic change, Welna mentions that he s already addressed
one of the points in prior works of his. But he does not stop after mentioning his paper, he goes on to
summarize the conclusion of his last article to provide some context to the reader. Welna specifically
states that his first paper suggested that such influence of Latin had strong sociolinguistic basis since
the change in the sequence ( removed HTML ) affected the pronunciation of vowels... (27). Explicitly
summarizing his past works not only allows him to gain credibility, but it also provides major support
to his argument. It is shown that Welna has done extensive research on the subject at hand, therefore
his knowledge on it is extensive. His summarization of the priorly written paper also aids in
solidifying his claims because, when he mentions the article, he discusses the information it suggests
in detail, therefore only adding to the many other evidences brought together in this paper on a similar
topic.
While Welna does provide solid support for his arguments, he does not always state which specific
point he is trying to prove when presenting pieces of

The Transformation Of Genes On The Mitochondrial And...
Transformation is a procedure where cells take up foreign DNA from their environment. This can
happen in either prokaryotic or eukaryotic cells. A circular self replicating molecule of DNA known as
a plasmid transfers genetic information between bacteria enabling the microbes to gain antibiotic
resistance as well as the ability to adapt to a new environment. Bacteria also have the capability to
acquire small pieces (at random) of DNA from their environment but this however is said to be
inefficient because only a small fraction of cells will uptake DNA and become transformed.
Expressions of genes on the plasmid will alter the genotype and phenotype of the cell. Under specific
laboratory conditions a cell which is incubated with the plasmid DNA has the ability to absorb the
plasmid into its own cytoplasm. Because these natural processes can potentially be modified by
scientists, the transformation procedure can be used as a means of treating human diseases to increase
the quality of life.
Genetic transformation will be assisted with the use of plasmid pGLO which contains four features.
Origin of replication (ori), ampicillin resistance gene (bla), arabinose promoter protein (araC) and the
Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP gene). The Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) is extracted from a
bioluminescent (encodes fluorescent protein) jellyfish called Aequorea Victoria which glows green
when exposed to ultraviolet light. GFP holds many advantages due to its stability and the fact

they are positioned right behind your forehead and at the top front of the head.
The frontal lobes, which are also called the cerebral cortex, are the seat of emotions and judgments
related to sympathy, which is the ability to feel sadness for someone else s suffering, and empathy,
which the ability to understand another s feelings and problems. They are also the seat of
understanding humour, including delicate witticisms and word plays.
The frontal lobes also identifies sarcasm and irony, another function of lobes control is the functioning

Essay on Luaghing Comedy-Oliver Goldsmith
The Theatre, like all other amusements, has its fashions and its prejudices, and when satiated with its
excellence, mankind begin to mistake change for improvement. For some years tragedy was the
reigning entertainment, but of late it has entirely given way to comedy, and our best efforts are now
exerted in these lighter kinds of composition. The pompous train, the swelling phrase, and the
unnatural rant, are displaced for that natural portrait of human folly and frailty, of which all are judges,
because all have sat for the picture. But as in describing nature it is presented with a double face,
either of mirth or sadness, our modern writers find themselves at a loss which chiefly to copy from,
and it is now debated, whether the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In these plays almost all the characters are good, and exceedingly generous; they are lavish enough of
their tin money on the stage, and though they want humor, have abundance of sentiment and feeling. If
they happen to have faults or foibles, the spectator is taught not only to pardon, but to applaud them,
in consideration of the goodness of their hearts; so that folly, instead of being ridiculed, is
commended, and the comedy aims at touching our passions, without the power of being truly pathetic.
In this manner we are likely to lose one great source of entertainment on the stage; for while the comic
poet is invading the province of the tragic muse, he leaves her lovely sister quite neglected. Of this,
however, he is no way solicitous, as he measures his fame by his profits. But it will be said, that the
theatre is formed to amuse mankind, and that it matters little, if this end be answered, by what means
it is obtained. If mankind find delight in weeping at comedy, it would be cruel to abridge them in that
or any other innocent pleasure. If those pieces are denied the name of comedies, yet call them by any
other name, and if they are delightful, they are good. Their success, it will be said, is a mark of their
merit, and it is only abridging our happiness to deny us an inlet to amusement. These objections,
however, are rather specious than solid. It is true, that amusement is a great object at a

Bernard Sanders also knowns as Bernie Sanders was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1941. Mr.
Sanders graduated from James Madison high school in Brooklyn and spent one year at Brooklyn
College. He then transferred to the University of Chicago, he graduated from there in 1964 and then

The Social And Psychological Ramifications Of Obesity Essay
Many people struggle with obesity in the United States face on a daily basis. Its effects can be seen in
adults and according to the World Health Organization, 25% of U.S. children are overweight or obese
(Hill Peters, 1998, p.1371). Obesity disproportionately impacts children, which makes them the fastest
growing group in the obese population. These children face many troubles in their schools and
communities. The largest struggle is bullying, which is something that can affect them throughout
their entire lives. Bullying can also cause other problems, including depression, low self esteem,
anxiety, suicidal ideation also known as bully cide , and low quality of life. Children look to their
peers for acceptance of their sense of identity, but bullying can create stigmas, causing support and
acceptance to fall away. The social and psychological ramifications induced by the bullying
victimization process may hinder the social development of overweight and obese youth, because
adolescents are extremely reliant on peers for social support, identity, and self esteem (Janssen, 2004,
p.1187). Bullying can cause children to feel alone, therefore turning to food as a coping mechanism,
which can increase the amount of obesity among children. It is important that children feel accepted
and cared for by their peers. Being obese or overweight can lead to a number of medical problems,
such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome (Gray, 2009, p.721).

The Word Love In The New Testament And Old Testament
Love is taken in many directions in the New Testament and Old Testament. The way God and Jesus
Christ present this emotion throughout the bible, shows a better understanding of unconditional love to
others. Love is one of the characteristics of God and an important part of His nature. Therefore, I will
bring forth explanation of how well the word Love is used from translation to translation. My research
will be coming out of the New Testament and Old Testament, even though there are many other books
I could talk about for the word love. In the New Testament, Almost everyone knows that God so loved
the world (John 3:16) and God is love (John 4:8), and when love appears nobody can express it better
than Jesus. We mainly hear about love in the beginning of the first Corinthians ( 1 CO 13) at wedding
ceremonies. As new translation were coming out over the years, the version NIV used love as sex acts
in Genesis to express the word rather than KJV and ESV used love as knowing the feeling and NASB
used love as strong relations. In the 1 corinthians, Paul created a message saying, the love of god, the
love of jesus christ, and the love that the christian expresses in response to God s saving action in
Jesus Christ (samuel E Balentine). As I was looking into the new testament, the chapter called First
John stood out to me because majority of the words are love or something describing love. First John
was written to distinguish the differences between

Bronislaw Malinowski Research Paper
There have been many scholars that have had different views on rituals and why people partake in
them. One of the most renowned English Functionalist had the idea of rituals being performed because
of a psychological reason. Bronislaw Malinowski proposed that humans participated in rituals
whenever they were in danger. He suggested that rituals were performed as a mean to help people deal
with anxiety. Bronislaw Malinowski was lead to believe that uneducated cultures did not understand
how to cope with everyday problems so they performed rituals instead. In the reading, Bronislaw
Malinowski uses The Trobriand Islanders as an example of his theory. The islanders would take long
journeys for trading purposes. The islanders would sail on dangers seas with wooden canoes. To make

He saw rituals as a way for people of a society to preserve their unity with one another. Emile
Durkheim s theory was that while people were partaking in rituals they would put aside their self
centered tendencies and become a part of their society. He believed that rituals would bring such a
powerful bond between the participants. The rituals needed to continue to be performed to keep the
bond alive. Emile Durkheim inspired A.R Radcliffe Brown who agreed with his theories. There are
three different categories that Anthropologist place people who perform rituals in. These categories
are, Category A which is Shamans; Category B which is Priest; and Category C which is Prophets.
The phrase shaman comes from the language of a Siberian group. The translation of it is one who is
excited or moved. The most well known culture that has shamans in them are the Native American
Indians. Native American tribes are not the only cultures that have them. In South American shamans
are common. The most common place to find shamans are in

The Importance Of Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is the ideal kidnapping of the century. Human trafficking is the most harmful crime
that should be taken seriously because of this crime it hurts young women and girls of all ages. Some
say that the crime might be reported, but it doesn t mean it s noticed. There is all the information on it,
the bad info, and ways to solve it, and ways to prevent it from happening to others. With this crime
being the most unnoticed reported crime, people should help solve it.
Human trafficking is the most hurtful and dangerous thing in the 21st century. It s ruining people s
families, and the world doesn t know about this kind of information because of the police force (etc.),
they keep it from getting out. They think that if they keep it from getting out no one will know, but I
think if people found out they will be willing to help out. Human trafficking is a crime against
humanity. We must unite our efforts to free victims and stop this crime that s becoming more
aggressive, that threatens not just individuals, but the foundational values of society. (Pope Francis).
So as you can see human trafficking should be the most important thing for society today because of
the number of lives they re taking away from their own families. However, human trafficking in people
s eyes is a serious crime and a grave violation of human rights.
Human trafficking is a type of serious crime that the world knows is the worst and should understand

Navajo Traditions
The Navajo Indian
Cultural Anthropology
The Navajo Indians of the Southwestern United states have a distinct social organization, kinship, and
a both traditional and biomedical way that they approach sickness and healing. Their social
organization revolves around their community and the Earth. Kinship for the Navajo is matriarchal
and they are a pastoral society. The traditional Navajo have medicine men that the tribe goes to for any
sickness and healing that needs to be done. The modern Navajo has established the Indian Health
Service as their standard medical facility and agency. I will go into more detail on all three areas of the
tribe s society of the Navajo people throughout this paper.

There has been almost as much research done on the healing and health care of the Navajo Nation.
There are three parts to the way that traditional Navajos view sickness and healing. There is
ceremonial healing, church healing and biomedical healing. The ceremonial healing traditionally been
the main avenue for health care on Navajo lands. This involves ritual healing performed by a Shaman.
Native american church healing involves work with the church and involves faith and a priest.
Biomedical healing is relatively new on the reservation (Csordas 2000). The implementation of Indian
Health Services has really opened the door for the Navajo reservations. They are able to receive
modern health care when they had to go hundreds of miles before.
Ritual healing involves health, emotion, identity, religion, self, suffering, modernity, and colonial
situation , according to Thomas Csordas, who spent a lot of time on the Indian lands with
anthropologists studying the Navajo and their daily lives. There is one ceremonial healing practice that
was studied in depth by Thomas Csordas and that is the Night Way Ceremony. The Nightway Ritual is
one of the most elaborate of Navajo healing rituals. This ritual involves chants, dances, prayers, myths
(Mathews 1995) and genealogy of various forms (Faris 1990). This is a nine day long ritual with a

together. They moved and played together as one organism. Thus, short notes were played identically
by every person, creating sections of order in a piece of pandemonium. As the piece ended, the

Girl s Obsession On Band Boys
As I began exploring into the one direction fandom, I was a little doubtful on what I was getting
myself into. I am the bystander, that sits and watches as the obsession of One Direction is blowing up
all over my social media feed. The fans have a notorious reputation for being viewed on society to
spend countless hours drooling over someone they ll never have. My goal was to seek out the
complexities of the peculiar phenomenon and how this obsession affects their lives. Adventures in my
research led me to a new understanding on how a online obsession over a teen boy band can affect the
lives of many young girls. Being a part of the fandom online made me evident that my insight over the
surrounding topic of girl s obsession on band boys is incorrect. Through the online universe, people
tend to have an emotional appeal that can be seen which allows us to further investigate in fictional
aspects. As I explored into it further, it became evident that fans behave in a way to harness the love
they all share for their idols. In order to understand, I put myself in different shoes to try and adapt to a
lifestyle I was unfamiliar with. Fortunately for myself, my best friend Jessica was apart of this
community and this allowed the adaptation to come much smoother. In the past, she would

Chicano School Failure Essay
The worst three plights that are discussed in Valencia s Chicano School Failure and Success are
language/cultural exclusion, teacher student interaction, and Chicano teaching force. Valencia
discusses how Chicano students have experienced persistent and persuasive language suppression and
cultural exclusion in the public school system (8). These laws and policies were instated, with one
purpose, to ensure the dominance of the English language and Anglo culture (Valencia 8). White
culture enforced this belief, that being bilingual and bicultural will create a threat to the dominant
white English speaking population. In addition, another adversity Chicano students faced is the limited
use of bilingual education (Valencia 9). In my own K 12 education, I saw ... Show more content on

The erasure of your bilingualism and biculturalism is something that should not be eradicated from
our brains, instead learning English should just be another tool added to our tool kit. In addition to
language/cultural exclusion, teacher student interaction is also something that needs to be improved.
As mentioned by Valencia, teachers tend to treat different types of students different (26). Teachers
tend to hold lower expectations for Chicanos, due to the stereotypical notion that Chicano students are
less intelligent than white students. With that thought seeded within an instructor s mind, the system is
already flawed from the beginning. Certain individuals even believe that there are undesirable traits
attributed with your race (Valencia 26). With teacher s racist beliefs, they will only further perpetuate
the stereotype that Chicano students do not remotely compare to white students. A Chicano teacher
force is also needed. Role models are important in any child s life, white or Chicano. It is important to
note that Chicano students need role models that look like them, so they can picture themselves in the

My Experience To The Museum Of Modern Art
When I visited the Museum of Modern Art, the exhibits were fascinating, intense, but interesting. Out
of all the pieces, only two types of art stood out to me; Asian and African art. There were two
sculptures that displayed extreme value from not only the culture but from the artists who created
them. It was intriguing to see what my perspective and the people s beliefs and usage of the sculptures
meant at the time. And to also look into the great value and historical meaning behind them. I will
discuss how I encountered the pieces and how they both looked like through my up close observation
of them.
The museum was very crowded when I arrived as well. There was an extraordinary amount of Greek,
Egyptian, and Roman Catholic art pieces being displayed. Which is why I struggled trying to look for
art pieces that were related to what topics about our art history class. Once I came back for the second
time, I finally found a way to find the appropriate art pieces to write about. The organization of the
pieces being presented was nice but hard to locate. Even with using the map, I realized that if the
musuem is too busy, that it will be very easy to get lost. Luckily, I asked a lot of people to help guide
me so I could find what I am looking for. In the end, I finally got the background information of the
art pieces I needed. By the way, finding the Nolan Library was extremely hard and I had to ask about
three people.

Flawed News And Public Opinions Essay
Flawed News and Public Opinions
TV Journalism has been degraded to the point in which true factual and informative reporting free of
bias has been replaced with short news bytes centered and focused on its entertainment value alone.
Within the political process, this has mostly served as a disservice to both politicians and the general
public audience.
Edward J Epstein published a book entitled News from Nowhere in which he observed NBC s news
department and how decisions were made on what was news worthy. He discovered a decline in
television network ratings and profits caused executives to change marketing strategies. This new
direction in news reporting would be tailored to an audience low in sophistication with the network
defining what would be newsworthy. Epstein wrote: Dull and complicated stories would need to be of
enormous importance to get on the air: but relatively trivial stories would make the cut if interesting
enough . (Edwards, p. 406). Supporting this observation Washington Post editors Leonard Downie Jr
and Robert Kaiser argue that Entertainment has pushed out information in the TV news business and
that the history of TV news can be summarized in a couple sentences . (Edwards, p. 406). An
exception to this practice would be networks assigning their best reporters to cover major events or
Lead Stories at well established sources such as the White House, Congress, or the Pentagon. During

The World Of The Planet Essay
Gondarks
The Gondark are a cruel and hostile race of insect like creatures that dedicate most of their time and
energy to becoming the greatest of every race in the galaxy. These creatures are extremely intelligent
and technologically advanced. The home of the Gondark is a planet by the name of Amerath. It is the
only planet in the galaxy with a blood moon rotating around its gravitational fields. The planet is
covered in dark garnet red sand and is very desolate with little to no light. The lack of light on the
planet contributes to the Gondarkians physical features, as well as their devotion to knowledge. They
also have very uncommon cultural customs with unique mating rituals. When it comes down to their
political beliefs they are very strict and believe in the respect of the high counsel. The high council is
made up of a group of the most intelligent and physically fit members of the race. The entire planet
follows their orders and rules with no questions asked. No member or visitor is to go against the
council. From the biology to cultural aspects all the way down to the political perspective the
Gondarks prove their supremacy. When it comes down to their biology it can best be summarized as
very unusual, at least by human standards.

1. Describe the path a water molecule takes as it travels through the hydrologic cycle. The
hydrological cycle is a never ending cycle that keeps us alive. The path begins with: Evaporation
when water evaporates in the form of water vapor by the heat of the sun and enters the air.
Transpiration Water enters the air when plants breathe in a process known as transpiration.
Condensation the process which water vapor in the air turns into liquid and forms clouds. Rain drops

The oceans cover about 71 percent of the Earth which makes the ocean a key factor in storing and
transferring heat energy around the world. Inconsistency in the heating of the earth gives rise to global
wind patterns. Since the wind patterns are constant, the winds create steady movements in the water
known as currents. When the air blows across the surface of a body of water, the water begins to move
from small waves to larger waves. When the water starts to move it is subject to the Coriolis Effect
(The Coriolis Effect, the pattern of the wind movement and the arrangement of landmasses are
responsible for the large scale patterns of wind driven surface currents in the ocean) and begins to
bend redirecting the water to the right of the direction of the wind in the Northern Hemisphere and to
the left in the Southern Hemisphere. Each hemisphere of an ocean has its very own gyre, a circular
motion of water. In the northern hemisphere the gyres turn clockwise and in the southern hemisphere
it turns counterclockwise. The current that runs south along the coast is the California Current and the

Character Analysis Of Albrecht Duerer s Lot And Children
In the gallery room for 16th century German art, a single column stands towards a wall, facing the
entrance directly. The translucent ceiling above has many small lamps facing in different directions to
light the room, but the one aiming directly at the front of this painting is noticeably brighter than the
rest. Albrecht Duerer s Madonna and Child is illuminated with such ferocity from above that its
angled, bronze painted frame casts a shadow both on the painting and on the column below.
Surrounding this painting is the taupe grey of the column, which has a slightly deeper surface for the
painting to hang on; while the painting is hung slightly below eye level for many, the column is much
taller and features a light cornice at its peak. However, the reverse of this structure is important, for it
also features the reverse of the painting itself Albrecht Duerer s Lot and his Daughters. In stark
contrast to its obverse, this painting is cast in shadow. A small window slightly larger than the painting
itself displays it, and there is absolutely no ceiling lighting highlighting this work at all, with the harsh
lighting for the front painting worsening the ability to examine this one. Upon closer inspection, it
seems that there is a light within the window itself, providing a soft glow from the top down.
However, this lighting was not functional on several occasions in November of 2017, while its
surrounding paintings were still more illuminated; the wall behind the column is

Getting Out Of Trouble Essay
Getting out of Trouble Imagine this: you are failing two subjects in school and you can t graduate if
you keep it up. Your parents ask, What would you like for your graduation party? Should you lie and
tell what you want...or tell them you are failing? Immanuel Kant defines lying as an intentional
untruthful declaration to another person . Everyone lies in this society that we live in, from kids to the
elderly. So why stress about it? Lying is always justified because it is up to each individual to choose
what to believe to do except for when you are putting other in harm s way. From my point of view,
lying can protect the feeling and lives of others. For example, in the article, It s the Truth by
NBCNEWS.com, Cohen states that, ...it is sometimes a moral duty... you re lying to protect someone
from serious harm... Cohen thinks that it is very necessary to lie in your life. According to Cohen, you
lie for other people s well being. Secondly, the article ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Becoming a good liar is a necessary life survival skill... it s the only thing between you and a

get you out of trouble at any time. Tim believes that lying can make your life easier as you age. Also,
the article states, ...it seems lying is a trait children develop as toddlers... children emulate behavior
modeled before them and have a tendency to repeat what is said around them. Children are showed

the child gets older, the child becomes more responsible if the parents show the child who/what to

Allan Legere Biography
Allan Joseph Legere, he came into this world from Chatham New Brunswick, down the road he would
turn out to be the Monster of the Miramichi. Unlike Noel Winters, Legere till lives today. The whole
thing began on the evening of June 21st 1986, when he was 38 years old. Legere along with Todd
Matchett and Scott Curtis deactivated the power to an elderly couple s store and broke inside. It was
here that the three men brutally beat John Glendenning and his wife Mary before they fled the scene.
After Mary managed to find out that they d beaten her husband to death. She managed to crawl up the
stairs so that she could call 911. Shortly after the three men were captured by law enforcement

Giving him plenty of time to commit four additional murders around Chatham New Brunswick and
Newcastle. On May 29th 1989, Legere brutally beat and raped sisters, Annie and Nina Flam. Although
Nina survived her injuries, her sister Annie passed away from the extent of hers. After this assault, on
October 13th 1989, Allan Legere entered the home of Donna and Linda Daughney. In which he
sexually assaulted them. Both victims were beaten to death inside their own home, and then Legere set
fire to the house as he left. November 24th 1989, included the discovery of Catholic Priest James
Smith who was beaten to death inside his church. Fortunately, for the individuals of New Brunswick
Legere was found and recaptured the same day.
In addition to his original sentence for the second degree murder of John Glendenning, Legere
happens to be serving nine years for escaping custody, kidnapping, and common assault. In addition to
four accounts of first degree murder.
A number of people constantly feared everything that might happen if Legere were to escape once
again. Legere was transported to a Super Maximum security prison in Sainte Anne des plaines, in
Quebec. Later on in 2015, at the age of 67 Allan Legere was transferred to the Edmunton Institution,

Ecofeminism And The Ecology Of Feminism
King, Ynestra. The Ecology of Feminism and the Feminism of Ecology. Healing the
Wounds: The Promise of Ecofeminism. Plant, Judith ed. Philedelphia: New Society
Publishers, 1989.
In his article Healing the Wounds: Feminism, Ecology, and the Nature/Culture Dualism, Ynestra King
says: In ecofeminism, nature is the central category of analysis. An analysis of the interrelated
domination of nature psyche and sexuality, human oppression, and nonhuman nature and the historic
position of women in relation to those forms of domination is the starting point of ecofeminism theory.
According to Ynestra King, ecofeminism principles are based on the following beliefs: Due to women
are closer to nature than men, the rising of western industrial civilization ... Show more content on

In the book, she uses the approaches and method of ethics, epistemology and metaphysics to examine
ecology s link with the feminist movement. In particular, she holds that a main cause of the
environmental crisis is the existence of the so called twin domination. According to twin domination
thesis, environmental degradation and exploitation and oppression of women share the same
conceptual and evaluative structure, that is, an oppressive conceptual framework, one that functions to
explain, maintain, and justify relationships of unjustified domination and subordination. According to
Warren, there are three common features of an oppressive conceptual framework:1. value
hierarchical thinking, i.e., up down thinking which places higher value, status, or prestige on what is
up rather than on what is down ; 2.value dualisms, i.e., disjunctive pairs in which the pairs are seen as
oppositional (rather than as complementary) and exclusive (rather than as inclusive); 3. the logic of
domination, a logical structure of argumentation that justifies domination and subordination . The last
is explanatorily basic as the bottom lines in ecofeminist discussions of oppression, if accepted, it
provides a justification for keeping downs down . In short, for any X and Y, if X is morally superior to
Y, then X is morally justified in subordination Y (Warren, The Power and the Promise of Ecological
Feminism 128). Thus, at least, in western societies, humankind is morally justified in subordination
nature, and men are justified in subordinating women. The two forms of oppression are conceptually
maintained by a patriarchal oppressive conceptual framework characterized by a logic of domination.
It thereby explains at a conceptual level why the eradication of sexist oppression requires the
eradication of naturism, which leads to reconceive ecofeminism

Code Of Ethics And State Board Counseling Laws
Professional counselors and their staff are exposed to sensitive client information and records. The
helpful receptionist and whose privilege videos, show how to apply both the American Counseling
Association Code of Ethics (ACA Code of Ethics) and state board counseling laws to common ethical
scenarios. The content explores aspects designed to call attention to favorable and unfavorable skills
and techniques in handling such matters. These two videos demonstrate the limitations of
confidentiality and privileged information. As a professional counselor one is expected to uphold the
principles of confidentiality and privilege according to the ACA Code of Ethics and state laws. One
may conclude that the helpful receptionist video shows clear violations of confidentiality. While the
whose privilege video indicates the significance of insuring that counselors comprehend state laws and
ethics codes pertaining to confidentiality and privilege. Furthermore, counseling professionals are held
accountable for violating ethics codes and state laws as well as training staff on informed consent.
In the helpful receptionist video, the receptionist violates the principle of confidentiality by disclosing
private information without informed consent. When the client s husband asked if she is in her
counseling session the receptionist confirms the client s presence. By doing so, she violates
confidentiality because she is supposed to protect the client s whereabouts to the best

The Approach of U.S. Foreign Policy and Terrorism Essay
The Approach of U.S. Foreign Policy and Terrorism
U.S. foreign policy is plunging head first in its war on terrorism. Our focus is expanding and including
various dynamics that harbor American interests. By broadening our focus in our war on terrorism, we
are beginning to spread ourselves too thin. Therefore, we risk the danger of fighting too many battles
at once. Terrorism is a large issue that American foreign policy will not be able to tackle in the manner
it has set out to do.
Recently, Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle voiced his concern over the direction the U.S. is
taking in its war on terrorism. He was criticized because his statements are one of the most critical
assessments to date of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The war is beginning to be an excuse for the U.S. to go after its enemies. With the all encompassing
threat of terrorism, foreign policy is able to use play on words in order to have a justified reason to get
directly involved with other regions of the world. Our interests are at stake and there is not a better
time to assert such force. Congress is generously agreeing to aid the war and the world s support is on
our side. Under our foreign policy initiatives, we are able to manipulate reasons to include new
aspects that fall under threats of terrorism, thus threats to the national security of the United States.
The United State s consideration of deploying troops to the former Soviet Union republic of Georgia
aims to provide training and equipment to Georgian forces to patrol and combat the border shared
with Chechnya. There is evidence that fleeing Al Qaeda fighters, particularly in the Pinski Gorge area,
have joined Chechen rebels. Interestingly enough, Before September 11, Russia had faced regular and
harsh criticism from the West for alleged human rights violations and the use of excessive force in
Chechnya. After the attacks on the United States, the criticism was largely muted, ( Georgia ). The
events of September 11 have caused the State Department to now accuse the Russian government of
not doing enough to control Chechen rebels. Foreign policy has expanded to directly addressing the
Chechen conflict

Henry David Thoreau As A Transcendentalist
Henry David Thoreau is remembered for his naturalist writings and is considered a leading
transcendentalist. He was born in Concord, Massachusetts and began writing nature poetry in 1840.
Thoreau would later spend 2 years, 2 months, and 2 days living on Walden Pond in search of a simpler
life, where he would gain understanding and a great appreciation for the world around him and write
about his experiences. The writings of Thoreau can easily be compared to many of the other authors
that we have studied over this course, for example: the works of Drayton, William Bradford, the
biography of Olaudah Equiano, James Fenimore Cooper, Edgar Allen Poe, and even in the film The
New World by Terence Malick. We begin the comparison of Thoreau with Drayton s To the Virginian
Voyage when he writes, Where nature hath in store Fowle, Venison, and Fish, And the fruitfull st
Soyle, Without your Toyle, Three Harvest more, All greater than your wish (7 12). Drayton is
describing the vast amount of provisions that they will have in their new land. He goes on to express
his feelings of gratitude for the new world that he is seeing for the first time and his exuberance of joy
and appreciation of its beauty. When he continues with, When as the Lushious smell Of that delicious
Land, Above the Seas that flowes, The cleere Wind throwes, Your Hearts to swell Approching the
deare Strand (43 48). Drayton s description of his new found world resembles that of Thoreau s.

The Aztecs And The Aztec Civilization
The Aztecs had one of the most successful and advanced empires of all time. They had a dwelling
culture The Aztec civilization was located directly in the middle of two mountain ranges in the central
valley of Mexico ( Platt 10). Although the Aztec empire eventually came to an end they were able to
do well as an empire. Contributing factors that led to the rise of the empire was their political
structure, social components, and religious traditions which they preformed earnestly.
The Aztecs were one of the last tribes to arrive in Mexico, in 1195 CE, when they arrived in the Valley
of Mexico other tribes had taken the best land so the Aztecs were left with the swampy shores. They
soon adapted and began to conquer their neighboring tribes. They continued to expand until they had
their very own empire. The empire continued to thrive, until the Spanish arrived and had a fixed mind
set on wanting the empires region of land. Although Social classes made a significant contribution to
the culture, by organizing and controlling the people, there were ways for movement between classes.
Aztecs had three main social classes which included the nobility, commoner, and slaves. Children
were born into their classes, however on rare occasion children who had some high level of skill could
rise above their parent s social status ( Society. Great Empires of the Past Online. Infobase Publishing.

  • 2. Fgc Or Female Genital Cutting Summary This week s encounter with FGC or Female Genital Cutting disturbed me and my eyes were opened to some of the harsh realities in the world. Everyone in the class was either assigned to be pro FGC or against. Based on which side of the argument you were assigned, each side read an article defending that side, and everyone watched the same documentary on a journey of a young woman in Africa leading up to her coming of age ceremony involving genital cutting. Throughout the video, you can tell that FGC is a common and important practice in West African Societies. A teenager named Mary was preparing for the coming of age ceremony, and the nervousness was noticeable. Someone who actually does the cutting was interviewed, and she discussed her livelihood and how there is a certain technique to the practice. Finally the time come for Mary to become a woman and the cutting came and went. The ceremony was at the very least hard to watch. The pain was clear in the aftermath, but the celebration continued and Mary seemed fine at the end. Also, a woman named Alice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The side against FGC brought up many solid arguments including health problems, and mental toil on the recipient. Many health problems come along with FGC, as many women have to be cut open to have intercourse with their husbands, and then resown. Thousands of women every year either die or suffer serious and life lasting injuries due to this tradition. While no one was pro imperialism, the idea of educating the people who practice this tradition seemed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Contributions Of Early English Language Contributions to Early English Orthography What influenced English orthography to be what it is today? How did early English writers derive the spellings of certain words? One possible answer to these questions is addressed by Jerzy Welna in his article On Early Pseudo Learned Orthographic Forms: A Contribution to the History of English Spelling and Pronunciation published in Studia Anglica Posnaniensia. Welna formats his argument as a numbered list where he touches on one spelling pattern adapted into English, provides proof of this change in text, and then moves on to the next orthographic adaptation. While Welna does provide solid, detailed evidence from one of his prior papers to support his point, he does not define the specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is clear that Welna is well versed on this topic not only because of his apparent knowledge, but because he has also written another article on the subject in the past. While discussing the Middle English period and when it showed orthographic change, Welna mentions that he s already addressed one of the points in prior works of his. But he does not stop after mentioning his paper, he goes on to summarize the conclusion of his last article to provide some context to the reader. Welna specifically states that his first paper suggested that such influence of Latin had strong sociolinguistic basis since the change in the sequence ( removed HTML ) affected the pronunciation of vowels... (27). Explicitly summarizing his past works not only allows him to gain credibility, but it also provides major support to his argument. It is shown that Welna has done extensive research on the subject at hand, therefore his knowledge on it is extensive. His summarization of the priorly written paper also aids in solidifying his claims because, when he mentions the article, he discusses the information it suggests in detail, therefore only adding to the many other evidences brought together in this paper on a similar topic. While Welna does provide solid support for his arguments, he does not always state which specific point he is trying to prove when presenting pieces of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Transformation Of Genes On The Mitochondrial And... Transformation is a procedure where cells take up foreign DNA from their environment. This can happen in either prokaryotic or eukaryotic cells. A circular self replicating molecule of DNA known as a plasmid transfers genetic information between bacteria enabling the microbes to gain antibiotic resistance as well as the ability to adapt to a new environment. Bacteria also have the capability to acquire small pieces (at random) of DNA from their environment but this however is said to be inefficient because only a small fraction of cells will uptake DNA and become transformed. Expressions of genes on the plasmid will alter the genotype and phenotype of the cell. Under specific laboratory conditions a cell which is incubated with the plasmid DNA has the ability to absorb the plasmid into its own cytoplasm. Because these natural processes can potentially be modified by scientists, the transformation procedure can be used as a means of treating human diseases to increase the quality of life. Genetic transformation will be assisted with the use of plasmid pGLO which contains four features. Origin of replication (ori), ampicillin resistance gene (bla), arabinose promoter protein (araC) and the Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP gene). The Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) is extracted from a bioluminescent (encodes fluorescent protein) jellyfish called Aequorea Victoria which glows green when exposed to ultraviolet light. GFP holds many advantages due to its stability and the fact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Essay on Luaghing Comedy-Oliver Goldsmith The Theatre, like all other amusements, has its fashions and its prejudices, and when satiated with its excellence, mankind begin to mistake change for improvement. For some years tragedy was the reigning entertainment, but of late it has entirely given way to comedy, and our best efforts are now exerted in these lighter kinds of composition. The pompous train, the swelling phrase, and the unnatural rant, are displaced for that natural portrait of human folly and frailty, of which all are judges, because all have sat for the picture. But as in describing nature it is presented with a double face, either of mirth or sadness, our modern writers find themselves at a loss which chiefly to copy from, and it is now debated, whether the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In these plays almost all the characters are good, and exceedingly generous; they are lavish enough of their tin money on the stage, and though they want humor, have abundance of sentiment and feeling. If they happen to have faults or foibles, the spectator is taught not only to pardon, but to applaud them, in consideration of the goodness of their hearts; so that folly, instead of being ridiculed, is commended, and the comedy aims at touching our passions, without the power of being truly pathetic. In this manner we are likely to lose one great source of entertainment on the stage; for while the comic poet is invading the province of the tragic muse, he leaves her lovely sister quite neglected. Of this, however, he is no way solicitous, as he measures his fame by his profits. But it will be said, that the theatre is formed to amuse mankind, and that it matters little, if this end be answered, by what means it is obtained. If mankind find delight in weeping at comedy, it would be cruel to abridge them in that or any other innocent pleasure. If those pieces are denied the name of comedies, yet call them by any other name, and if they are delightful, they are good. Their success, it will be said, is a mark of their merit, and it is only abridging our happiness to deny us an inlet to amusement. These objections, however, are rather specious than solid. It is true, that amusement is a great object at a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Social And Psychological Ramifications Of Obesity Essay Many people struggle with obesity in the United States face on a daily basis. Its effects can be seen in adults and according to the World Health Organization, 25% of U.S. children are overweight or obese (Hill Peters, 1998, p.1371). Obesity disproportionately impacts children, which makes them the fastest growing group in the obese population. These children face many troubles in their schools and communities. The largest struggle is bullying, which is something that can affect them throughout their entire lives. Bullying can also cause other problems, including depression, low self esteem, anxiety, suicidal ideation also known as bully cide , and low quality of life. Children look to their peers for acceptance of their sense of identity, but bullying can create stigmas, causing support and acceptance to fall away. The social and psychological ramifications induced by the bullying victimization process may hinder the social development of overweight and obese youth, because adolescents are extremely reliant on peers for social support, identity, and self esteem (Janssen, 2004, p.1187). Bullying can cause children to feel alone, therefore turning to food as a coping mechanism, which can increase the amount of obesity among children. It is important that children feel accepted and cared for by their peers. Being obese or overweight can lead to a number of medical problems, such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome (Gray, 2009, p.721). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Word Love In The New Testament And Old Testament Love is taken in many directions in the New Testament and Old Testament. The way God and Jesus Christ present this emotion throughout the bible, shows a better understanding of unconditional love to others. Love is one of the characteristics of God and an important part of His nature. Therefore, I will bring forth explanation of how well the word Love is used from translation to translation. My research will be coming out of the New Testament and Old Testament, even though there are many other books I could talk about for the word love. In the New Testament, Almost everyone knows that God so loved the world (John 3:16) and God is love (John 4:8), and when love appears nobody can express it better than Jesus. We mainly hear about love in the beginning of the first Corinthians ( 1 CO 13) at wedding ceremonies. As new translation were coming out over the years, the version NIV used love as sex acts in Genesis to express the word rather than KJV and ESV used love as knowing the feeling and NASB used love as strong relations. In the 1 corinthians, Paul created a message saying, the love of god, the love of jesus christ, and the love that the christian expresses in response to God s saving action in Jesus Christ (samuel E Balentine). As I was looking into the new testament, the chapter called First John stood out to me because majority of the words are love or something describing love. One of the most renowned English Functionalist had the idea of rituals being performed because of a psychological reason. Bronislaw Malinowski proposed that humans participated in rituals whenever they were in danger. He suggested that rituals were performed as a mean to help people deal with anxiety. Bronislaw Malinowski was lead to believe that uneducated cultures did not understand how to cope with everyday problems so they performed rituals instead. In the reading, Bronislaw Malinowski uses The Trobriand Islanders as an example of his theory. The islanders would take long journeys for trading purposes. Emile Durkheim s theory was that while people were partaking in rituals they would put aside their self centered tendencies and become a part of their society. Emile Durkheim inspired A.R Radcliffe Brown who agreed with his theories. There are three different categories that Anthropologist place people who perform rituals in. These categories are, Category A which is Shamans; Category B which is Priest; and Category C which is Prophets. The phrase shaman comes from the language of a Siberian group. Some say that the crime might be reported, but it doesn t mean it s noticed. There is all the information on it, the bad info, and ways to solve it, and ways to prevent it from happening to others. With this crime being the most unnoticed reported crime, people should help solve it. Human trafficking is the most hurtful and dangerous thing in the 21st century. It s ruining people s families, and the world doesn t know about this kind of information because of the police force (etc.), they keep it from getting out. They think that if they keep it from getting out no one will know, but I think if people found out they will be willing to help out. Human trafficking is a crime against humanity. We must unite our efforts to free victims and stop this crime that s becoming more aggressive, that threatens not just individuals, but the foundational values of society. (Pope Francis). So as you can see human trafficking should be the most important thing for society today because of the number of lives they re taking away from their own families. However, human trafficking in people s eyes is a serious crime and a grave violation of human rights. This involves ritual healing performed by a Shaman. Native american church healing involves work with the church and involves faith and a priest. Biomedical healing is relatively new on the reservation (Csordas 2000). The implementation of Indian Health Services has really opened the door for the Navajo reservations. They are able to receive modern health care when they had to go hundreds of miles before. Ritual healing involves health, emotion, identity, religion, self, suffering, modernity, and colonial situation , according to Thomas Csordas, who spent a lot of time on the Indian lands with anthropologists studying the Navajo and their daily lives. There is one ceremonial healing practice that was studied in depth by Thomas Csordas and that is the Night Way Ceremony. The Nightway Ritual is one of the most elaborate of Navajo healing rituals. The erasure of your bilingualism and biculturalism is something that should not be eradicated from our brains, instead learning English should just be another tool added to our tool kit. In addition to language/cultural exclusion, teacher student interaction is also something that needs to be improved. As mentioned by Valencia, teachers tend to treat different types of students different (26). Teachers tend to hold lower expectations for Chicanos, due to the stereotypical notion that Chicano students are less intelligent than white students. With that thought seeded within an instructor s mind, the system is already flawed from the beginning. Certain individuals even believe that there are undesirable traits attributed with your race (Valencia 26). With teacher s racist beliefs, they will only further perpetuate the stereotype that Chicano students do not remotely compare to white students. A Chicano teacher force is also needed. • 17. My Experience To The Museum Of Modern Art When I visited the Museum of Modern Art, the exhibits were fascinating, intense, but interesting. Out of all the pieces, only two types of art stood out to me; Asian and African art. There were two sculptures that displayed extreme value from not only the culture but from the artists who created them. It was intriguing to see what my perspective and the people s beliefs and usage of the sculptures meant at the time. And to also look into the great value and historical meaning behind them. I will discuss how I encountered the pieces and how they both looked like through my up close observation of them. The museum was very crowded when I arrived as well. There was an extraordinary amount of Greek, Egyptian, and Roman Catholic art pieces being displayed. Which is why I struggled trying to look for art pieces that were related to what topics about our art history class. Once I came back for the second time, I finally found a way to find the appropriate art pieces to write about. The organization of the pieces being presented was nice but hard to locate. Even with using the map, I realized that if the musuem is too busy, that it will be very easy to get lost. Luckily, I asked a lot of people to help guide me so I could find what I am looking for. In the end, I finally got the background information of the art pieces I needed. By the way, finding the Nolan Library was extremely hard and I had to ask about three people. • 18. Flawed News And Public Opinions Essay Flawed News and Public Opinions TV Journalism has been degraded to the point in which true factual and informative reporting free of bias has been replaced with short news bytes centered and focused on its entertainment value alone. Within the political process, this has mostly served as a disservice to both politicians and the general public audience. Edward J Epstein published a book entitled News from Nowhere in which he observed NBC s news department and how decisions were made on what was news worthy. He discovered a decline in television network ratings and profits caused executives to change marketing strategies. This new direction in news reporting would be tailored to an audience low in sophistication with the network defining what would be newsworthy. Epstein wrote: Dull and complicated stories would need to be of enormous importance to get on the air: but relatively trivial stories would make the cut if interesting enough . (Edwards, p. 406). Supporting this observation Washington Post editors Leonard Downie Jr and Robert Kaiser argue that Entertainment has pushed out information in the TV news business and that the history of TV news can be summarized in a couple sentences . (Edwards, p. 406). An exception to this practice would be networks assigning their best reporters to cover major events or Lead Stories at well established sources such as the White House, Congress, or the Pentagon. It is the only planet in the galaxy with a blood moon rotating around its gravitational fields. The planet is covered in dark garnet red sand and is very desolate with little to no light. The oceans cover about 71 percent of the Earth which makes the ocean a key factor in storing and transferring heat energy around the world. Inconsistency in the heating of the earth gives rise to global wind patterns. Since the wind patterns are constant, the winds create steady movements in the water known as currents. When the air blows across the surface of a body of water, the water begins to move from small waves to larger waves. When the water starts to move it is subject to the Coriolis Effect (The Coriolis Effect, the pattern of the wind movement and the arrangement of landmasses are responsible for the large scale patterns of wind driven surface currents in the ocean) and begins to bend redirecting the water to the right of the direction of the wind in the Northern Hemisphere and to the left in the Southern Hemisphere. • 23. Character Analysis Of Albrecht Duerer s Lot And Children In the gallery room for 16th century German art, a single column stands towards a wall, facing the entrance directly. The translucent ceiling above has many small lamps facing in different directions to light the room, but the one aiming directly at the front of this painting is noticeably brighter than the rest. Albrecht Duerer s Madonna and Child is illuminated with such ferocity from above that its angled, bronze painted frame casts a shadow both on the painting and on the column below. Surrounding this painting is the taupe grey of the column, which has a slightly deeper surface for the painting to hang on; while the painting is hung slightly below eye level for many, the column is much taller and features a light cornice at its peak. However, the reverse of this structure is important, for it also features the reverse of the painting itself Albrecht Duerer s Lot and his Daughters. In stark contrast to its obverse, this painting is cast in shadow. A small window slightly larger than the painting itself displays it, and there is absolutely no ceiling lighting highlighting this work at all, with the harsh lighting for the front painting worsening the ability to examine this one. Upon closer inspection, it seems that there is a light within the window itself, providing a soft glow from the top down. However, this lighting was not functional on several occasions in November of 2017, while its surrounding paintings were still more illuminated; the wall behind the column is ... In his article Healing the Wounds: Feminism, Ecology, and the Nature/Culture Dualism, Ynestra King says: In ecofeminism, nature is the central category of analysis. An analysis of the interrelated domination of nature psyche and sexuality, human oppression, and nonhuman nature and the historic position of women in relation to those forms of domination is the starting point of ecofeminism theory. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the book, she uses the approaches and method of ethics, epistemology and metaphysics to examine ecology s link with the feminist movement. In particular, she holds that a main cause of the environmental crisis is the existence of the so called twin domination. According to twin domination thesis, environmental degradation and exploitation and oppression of women share the same conceptual and evaluative structure, that is, an oppressive conceptual framework, one that functions to explain, maintain, and justify relationships of unjustified domination and subordination. According to Warren, there are three common features of an oppressive conceptual framework:1. value hierarchical thinking, i.e., up down thinking which places higher value, status, or prestige on what is up rather than on what is down ; 2.value dualisms, i.e., disjunctive pairs in which the pairs are seen as oppositional (rather than as complementary) and exclusive (rather than as inclusive); 3. the logic of domination, a logical structure of argumentation that justifies domination and subordination . The last is explanatorily basic as the bottom lines in ecofeminist discussions of oppression, if accepted, it provides a justification for keeping downs down . In short, for any X and Y, if X is morally superior to Y, then X is morally justified in subordination Y (Warren, The Power and the Promise of Ecological Feminism 128). Thus, at least, in western societies, humankind is morally justified in subordination nature, and men are justified in subordinating women. The two forms of oppression are conceptually maintained by a patriarchal oppressive conceptual framework characterized by a logic of domination. It thereby explains at a conceptual level why the eradication of sexist oppression requires the eradication of naturism, which leads to reconceive ecofeminism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
