Porn and Prose Essay
Porn and Prose
Pornography has the ability to stay current with each technological breakthrough while pushing the
borders of what we deem as acceptable in reading and writing. In, Writing Material: Readings from
Plato to the Digital Age by Tribble and Trubek, an article by Gopnick notes the death of the word
before its technological resurgence. Each new medium was more visually and sensually rich that the
last: movies gave way to talking movies, which gave way to color talking movies, which gave way to
round the clock talking color television. In that context, words just hung around looking glum, with
hardly enough energy left to compose themselves into sentences (180). Gopnick then discuses the
revolution of the Internet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The availability and widespread usage of Internet porn has made these mediums more accepted than in
the past. While Playboy was once considered a novelty in the risqué, it is now considered tame
compared to the material found on the World Wide Web. Playboy is also known for its articles and
political satire. The common joke is that men only subscribe to Playboy for the articles , but more
often than not, men are reading those articles. You can t say that for most of the porn found on the
web.
Reading has a history of association with sensuality. In On Women and Reading , from Tribble and
Trubek, there is a painting of an elegant woman reading in a chair. The painting is whimsical in nature
and depicts an enjoyment of the literature. She is fully clothed and without an erotic pose, but the
softness of the painting coupled with the casual lounging with her book is somehow sensual. Novels
were regarded with considerable suspicion by the respectable, especially the godly , who feared that
female novel readers would become idle, sexually aroused, or obsessed with a fantasy world (Tribble
and Trubek 338). This fear was in the context of reading, but today, with the popularity of Internet
writing and publishing; women have found their own place in pornographic text.

Resilience And Adversity
Resilience The Power to Overcome Adversity
The life of Nelson Mandela has inspired many to pursue the essence of resilience and the ways in
which people recover from adversity to strength. The argument lies in whether resilience is a born
quality or something that could be learned. In looking to find the answer to this question, I had to read
several articles on the subject which turned out to be quite of a challenge, but most of the information
available concluded that resilience is a process that is learned versus something that which is innate. It
s a process that is learned from self motivation, life experiences and continual learning versus a
quality that one is born with.
Resilience is the outcome of successful adaptation to adversity ... Show more content on

Insight is built on the experience of having been understood by a caring and attentive other and is a
product of secure attachment. Consistent experiences of empathic attunement deepen our capacity for
insight and reality testing. As we mature emotionally and cognitively we broaden our ability to
recognize and appreciate others subjectivity and separateness as well as the capacity to reflect on our
own experience. Inherent to this is an appreciation that other behaviors are not necessarily directed
toward us, even when we are affected by them. These abilities are essential to resilience in that they
allow us to tolerate experiences of existential isolation. It was this constellation of qualities that
allowed Mandela to persevere in the struggle against apartheid and sustained him during the years
spent on Robin Island.
In the face of adversity, one has to be open to acceptance. The resilient individual is sustained by an
inherent capacity for acceptance; that is an ability to accept what cannot be changed and ultimately
embracing the life that one has been given. At times, this may involve a willingness to surrender, and
nearly always, it demands an openness to love others as they

Inhibition Effect
To test the possibility that inhibition effect was generated from the use of only two alternative
peripheral stimuli, following experiment was carried out. A central box and four peripheral boxes were
used in the experiment and the positive IOR result ruled out the possible explanation that inhibition
limited to the two alternative boxes.
In the double cue experiment, inhibition showed when attention was split to two sides by both
simultaneously brightening peripheral boxes while no inhibition showed if the cue remained at the
center in the arrow experiment. Therefore, Posner and Cohen concluded that attentional orienting is
not necessary in inhibition of return.
Another two experiments were conducted to determine the relation between inhibition and eye
movement. In the first of the two experiments were Back and Forth Experiment, participants were
asked to fixate to the center box and then read the digit from one of the two peripheral boxes, which
was the cue. After that, returned their eyes to the center box when it was brightened. The target was
given after the brightening of the central box. A strong inhibitory effect showed for at least 1.5 sec at
the cued location. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rafal et al (1989) claim that rather than two separate pathways, endogenous and exogenous
activations, oculomotor preparation may be a better explanation for IOR generation. Rafal et al (1989)
conclude that endogenous and exogenous activations are competing with each other to access the
oculomotor apparatus. IOR is generated regardless of whether oculomotor preparation was initiated
endogenously or exogenously. However, it is suggested that IOR not only represents a change in
attentional bias but also related to oculomotor system. IOR can be generated in both attentional and
oculomotor systems (Hunt and Kingstone,

Carbonic Acid Levels Lab Report
The effects of color on carbonic acid levels

Biology 1441, Section 055; Prof. Corey Roelke; October 14th, 2014.
Abstract:
Different colors of light affect the development of plants in different ways. The rate of photosynthesis
of each plant will differ depending on the color of the light that is emitted on it. Once the carbon
dioxide is produced it will react with the water in the aquatic system, thus producing carbonic acid.
We measured the carbonic acid levels with the help of phenolphthalein and sodium hydroxide to
conclude that the brighter the color of the light is, the faster the plant will photosynthesize, and thus
the lower the carbonic concentration of the aqueous solution.
Plants use the process of photosynthesis to convert light energy into chemical energy, and carbon
dioxide must be used up by the plants in order for this process to take place. On the other hand,
cellular respiration produces carbon dioxide in order to convert stored energy into chemical energy
(ATP. We will use Elodea for this experiment because they are simple aquatic plants.
Therefore, the system that contained lower levels of carbonic acid also contained lower levels of
carbon dioxide, and this concluded that photosynthesis took place since CO2 is a reactant molecule of
the process, and was used up.
Introduction:
Elodea is a genus of aquatic plants scientifically known as Elodea canadensis or Elodea

Voodoo Facts
There are three different denominations associated with Voodoo. The first and most popular practice
of this religion is the orthodox Voodoo. The Orthodox Voodoo was based on Dahomey rites. The
Kingdom of Dahomey, which was established and lasted during the 1600 s till the late 1800 s when
the last living chief, Behanzin, was annexed and defeated by the French colonial empire. The
Dahomey kingdom created different unique beliefs, ceremonies and religious idealisms for their

The Death Of Romeo And Juliet s Death
Once upon a time there was a boy named Romeo and a girl named Juliet, who lived separately but
loved each other dearly. This story is about a boy and a girl whom their families hated each other
deeply and they were enemies because they always fight with each other. The end of this beautiful
love ended in tragedy with the death of the two star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Many people
had different opinions about who to blame for Romeo and Juliet s death. Some of them said that the
environmental factors (fate) caused their deaths. Others said that the authority Figures was blamed for
their deaths. Part of people were blaming Romeo and Juliet (themselves) for their death. Actually, all
of these statements blame for Romeo and Juliet s death and there are a lot of evidences that would
support my opinion. One of the causes that lead to Romeo and Juliet s death is the environmental
factors (fate included). Environmental factors have been about the time that they were living in, the
feud between the families, and destiny. The feud of the families caused their death because if the
families weren t enemies, then, they won t get married secretly, or god had chosen for them this life. I
hear some noise. Lady, come from that nest, of death, contagion, and unnatural sleep. A greater power
than we can contradict, Hath thwarted our intents. (5.3.156 159). This quotation means that when

Inventions sprouted up through the entire decade in the U.S ( Famous Inventions Of The 1960 s ).

Initial Counseling Session
The Initial Counseling Session When a client attends therapy there are various elements to this
process. All of them are required in order for the client to gain the most out of this experience. In
doing so, this kind of song and dance is created and maintained by the client and therapist. The nature
of this dance is imperative to the clients condition and most often their life, so the therapist must

we decide what the first and the last move will be? It all begins with an initial counseling session, the
client and therapist get to know each other and learn what is necessary in order for therapy to be
beneficial and effective. What is the initial counseling session? According to Corey (2016), the initial

Mcdonald s American Leadership
It is simpler to get elected as the President of the United States than it is to become a manager at
McDonald s. To become a manager at McDonald s, an employee must work and brown nose his or her
way up, being trained and tested as a cashier, a server, and a cook. Yet the only prerequisites for
leading the nation are that the candidate must have resided in America for at least fourteen years, be
thirty five years or older, and be a natural born citizen (Ho Par. 2 4). Despite the common
misconception that becoming a world leader requires skill, any ordinary citizen wielding the deafening
voice of the unexpected can rise to power.

First of all, narcissism is the condition being egocentric and an obdurate disregard for others
wellbeing. The narcissistic tendencies in a potential world leader are what guide a majority of his or
her actions. Furthermore, the shining confidence that expounds from a narcissist is magnetic to
followers. Another term that is prevalent to understanding the process is sociopathic leader. This is
used to describe an individual who lacks a conscience and is manipulative and ruthless in gaining
power. It is beneficial to be devoid of natural human emotions because it functions as a wall, blocking
out the screams of an oppressed community. Sociopathic leaders also tend to be authoritarian rulers,
who appeal to fear to command constrictive obedience to authority figures. Scapegoating plays upon
this suffocating fear of the citizens by alienating an entire group, usually a minority, and accusing
them of causing the destruction of the country. Dehumanization of those being scapegoated erases the
human qualities and releases the guilt of the community so that it can openly blame innocents.
Labeling, or classifying a group of people as having a specific characteristic, assists in the
dehumanization process. Although an inexperienced candidate does not technically need to have any
previous political knowledge, it is extremely beneficial to understand these terms and how they will be

The leadership within IZL Corporation has become complacent and not ready to tackle challenges
inherent in managing large public companies as well as dealing with developed financial institutions
and regulators. This is evident when Jack Carlisle asked the question How do you know how things
are going? and the response was If I don t get a call, everything must be fine. (Austin, 2007). The
company lacked a reporting mechanism that will otherwise provide important information about the
affairs and health of the business and IT infrastructure.
Business process remained manual as reporting was done in spreadsheet rather than utilizing
application designed and developed to produce efficiency and alignment with business strategy. There
seem to be no care for data protection as there were no policies, procedures and regulatory system to
guide workflow and ensure compliance. The handling of physical infrastructure did not matter to
either executive managers of the IT staffs especially when you come to think of the investment and
cost associated with maintaining an IT shop.

It is evident that IZL Corporation lost its competitive advantage due to unclear business strategy and
as a result its market share dwindled and CEO Chuck Hansen ousted. For IZL Corporation to return to

also brings some negative impacts to Hong Kong. This paper examines both the arguments for and

For example, 27 corporate clients from Beijing and Shanghai participated in China Corporate Fam.
They were invited to come to Hong Kong and experience the most recent MICE products and team
building activities (HKTB, 2013b). Under Individual Visit Scheme, it is generally believed that
participants come to Hong Kong in a more convenient way. Therefore, more mainlanders are willing
to come to Hong Kong and there are more opportunities for them and Hong Kong people to
communicate and work with each other.
However, it is suggested that Individual Visit Scheme triggers inflation in Hong Kong. There are some
products that popular among the mainland travellers, such as Vita Lemon Tea and baby milk have
noticeable increase in price level. Using a pack of six boxes of Vita Lemon Tea as an example,
Consumer Council (as cited in Apple daily, 2012) discovers that the price of it rose 10%, from $13.5
to $14.9 between March 2013 and late September 2013. This illustrates that the spending of mainland
tourists on daily products lead to higher price level in Hong Kong.
Apart from inflation, Individual Visit Scheme causes loss of local small and medium enterprises in
Hong Kong. CBRE Hong Kong (2012) notes that Hong Kong ranked world s top destination for
luxury brands due to a large number of mainland tourists who demand for the benefit from the price

Almost unknown as a poet in her lifetime, Emily Dickinson is now considered as one of the most
mysterious and original American poet of 19th century for her innovation in rhythmic meters and

However, some poems that I read impressed me at the first glance. Dickinson s poems spoke

Have you ever wondered why the things that taste bad to you may taste good to someone else? Why is

because every two weeks or so, the taste buds that are coming into your mouth may not be in someone

suggests a military theme park (Unger). After Calley finished high school he decided to go to college
but ended up doing poorly. He moved through several jobs unsuccessfully eventually enlisting in the
military. With his firm conservative background, it is no surprise that as the Vietnam War grew and he
was unsuccessful in all his other endeavors that he would enlist. He went to basic training at Fort
Benning then after which he was transferred to Fort Lewis, Washington where he trained as a clerk

Calley was described to be an average officer. His training was cut short and sent to Vietnam. The
Vietnam war was characterized by a lack of public support on the home front, and thus carried over to

also used indiscriminant bombings with napalm. Villages were destroyed even with civilians in them

The segmentation scheme in Intel 80386 microprocessor is more advanced than that in Intel 8086
microprocessor. The 8086 segments start at a fixed location and are always 64K in size, but with
80386, the starting location and the segment size can separately be specified by the user.
The segments may overlap, it allows two segments to share address space. To send the necessary
information, segment tables with segment selector as index are used. At any time, only two segment
tables can be active. They are Global Descriptor Table (GDT) and a Local Descriptor Table (LDT).
This two segment table only can be executed by the operating system.
Segment table is an array of segment descriptors which specify the starting address and the size of the
segment. Each segment descriptor has 2 bits specifying its privilege level, called as the Descriptor
Privilege Level (DPL). This DPL has to be compared with Requested Privilege Level (RPL) and
Current Privilege Level (CPL) before processor grants the access to a segment. If the DPL of the
segment is less than or equals to the RPL as well as the CPL, then the processor will grant access to a
particular segment. This serves as protection mechanism for operating system.

Catholics Should Discriminate Against Same Sex Couples
From a feminist s perspective 2012 was a huge year for marriage equality. President Obama allowed
people of the same sex to get married. The LGBT celebrated by having parades and parties. The
course of LGBT rights history continued on. The sacrament of marriage has changed within our
society by becoming more sacred. It is the right thing to make same sex marriage legal because if it
wasn t then that wouldn t be fair to our LGBT community. Catholics can continue to believe their
religious beliefs in an appropriate way that does not discriminate against other groups. Catholics can
value the sacrament of marriage by sharing it amongst people from different cultures. Nobody, not just

Redaction Criticism
Reflecting over the content of the New Testament course I can say that I have gained much knowledge
previously unknown to me. In the past I have tried to read the bible on my own and failed
considerably. Taking a course designed on the topic has made it easier to actually sit down and study
the material. Although one can gain knowledge or perspective through self study or attending church, I
feel learning about certain topics can be better achieved through class study. This way provides a
greater depth to the information on topics often overlooked.
At the beginning of this class I did not know much about the New Testament in general. Using the
information provided and completing the assignments has given me a wider understanding of how to
interpret the Bible. Redaction criticism was a term that I knew little about at the start of the course.
Redaction criticism focuses on adaptations to literary content from the past (Van Seters, 2003, pg.
487). In the future when I read passages I will be careful to realize that the content may have been
altered to fit the people of that time in an effort to help them gain a greater understanding. In other
instances omission or inclusion may have occurred at the hands of a third party. Paul had a dictated
many of his writings to a secretary (Harris, 2014, pg. 388). The role that women played in the growth
early Christianity was surprising. When considering the time in which those events took place it
common to think of Jesus, the twelve disciples, and men in general as playing intricate roles. However

Attachment Theory Of Attachment
INTRODUCTION The theory of attachment is a postulation in developmental psychology that
emphasises on the significance of attachment regarding personal development. This theory claimed
that individuals have the ability to form an emotional and physical attachment to another person to
give them a sense of stability and security. This is vital for an individual s personal development in
terms of risk taking, branching and growing as a whole. This theory started off with the context of
children and parents in the 60s and 70s. However, it later expanded to cover for adult romantic
relationships in the late 1980s. This term was first coined by Psychologist, John Bowlby and
developed by Mary Ainsworth, who based her research on pre existing ... Show more content on

Individuals who were victims of abuse; physical or sexual, usually exhibit a fearful avoidant
attachment style. These individuals have mixed feelings about close relationships. They have the need
and the desire to be in an intimate relationship with another person and at the same time, have an
uncontrollable uneasiness at the idea of being emotionally close to another individual. This is
sometimes linked to their often pessimistic views on themselves and their partners. They may view
themselves as someone who is unworthy of responsiveness from their partners or they may think that
their partners have malicious intentions towards them. As a result, these individuals may develop trust
issues and makes their relationship more difficult as the burden to prove that they are adequate lays on
their significant others. Similar to fearful avoidant attachment styles, these individuals seek less
intimacy from partners and frequently suppress and in a constant denial about their

Crowd Behavior Analysis
35 students involved themselves in the rally. 15 of these students had rated themselves as shy. Eight of
those were rated as shy too by their classmates. We therefore had 8 students who we could, almost
with conviction, define as shy. This was particularly so since results of the instrument supported this
assessment. Special indirect observation was therefore accorded these 8 shy students to see whether or
not they lost their personalty, as classical crowd psychology asserted, under influence of the crowd.
The rally itself occurred for an hour between the times of 2.00 3.00pm. The excuse was of calling for
greater student rights on campus. I chose a topic that we thought students would be particularly
interested in. We also chose a time of day where students would not be too tired, nor did they have a
heavy workload of classes on that particular day. The march too was outside their campus so students
would not have to travel to it. We also attempted to chose a cool day. All these conditions were
selected with the intention of excluding any possible confounding elemetn. The students seemed
sufficiently motivated. Three of the eight shy students evidenced slightly louder behavior than usual
more extroverted with one carrying a banner and the others actually, to some extent, being caught up
in the engineered fervor. The others, however, seemed less disinterested with two actually walking
away minutes after the rally had started. Four stayed until the end,a nd the one who

Example Of A Personal Narrative Essay Sample
I am seeking an internship to continue my journey in dietetics. This journey began when I sat through
a dietetics informational segment during orientation week at college. I was fascinated in what the
director had to say and of all the opportunities for dietitians. At that moment, I finally found my way
onto the career path that was mine all along. That day, I decided to switch my major from nursing to
dietetics. I enjoy learning and having experience in food service and community nutrition, but to my
surprise, a family member s health condition drives me to pursue clinical dietetics. My dad was born
with chronic heart disease and currently has two aneurysms on his heart. He was told that he needs to
lose weight for his upcoming open heart surgery and he asked if I would be able to help him out with
that. I enjoy writing out healthy menus to help him achieve this goal.
I have chosen the dietetic profession because I love to help others, and I have the patience and
compassion. I am excited to begin the next leg in my journey to becoming a clinical registered
dietitian. I want to help people control their nutrition when diseases or disorders that are controlling so

Radio Station Beliefs
I Believe in Playing a Different Radio Station There are so many different radio stations out there, but
it is very common for one to choose a very particular radio station. The ever popular is FM radio and
the song that many people play the most is WIIFM. I believe in playing a different radio station.
Knowing that I am going to go to college in just two years I have the pressure to get involved in the
community and as expected my most listened to radio station decided to play. I was shocked and
surprised, as many people, that there was no physical outcome from what I was getting myself into,
but I stepped outside of my comfort zone and played a different radio station. Unusually I enjoyed and
it felt like I drank a nice hot cup of cocoa on a bitter cold day. It was very much unexpected and the

I was able to look at life from a new perspective and a new ear. I believe in playing a different radio

is no materialistic result there is still that fire that glows from within. The world is already so cruel and
as generations come they are becoming worse and worse, and that radio station is becoming part of the
most listened to station, 24/7 AM to FM. So, what I need to do is rewind and go back to the days
where people were sympathetic. Change starts with the man in the mirror and I have vowed to myself

People are able to relieve stress in a few different ways. Some people relieve stress by journaling.
Journaling allows people to clarify their thoughts and feelings, thereby gaining valuable self
knowledge. It s also a good problem solving tool; oftentimes, one can hash out a problem and come up
with solutions more easily on paper. Journaling about traumatic events helps one process them by
fully exploring and releasing the emotions involved, and by engaging both hemispheres of the brain in
the process, allowing the experience to become fully integrated in one s mind (Scott, 2009).
Journaling isn t for everyone; some choose to mediate to reach full relaxation. Throughout the day,
when we experience stress, our bodies automatically react in ways that prepare us to fight or run. In
some cases of extreme danger, this physical response is helpful. However, a prolonged state of such
agitation can cause physical damage to every part of the body. Meditation affects the body in exactly
the opposite ways that stress does, restoring the body to a calm state, helping the body to repair it self,
and preventing new damage due to the physical effects of stress (Scott, 2010).
Along with journaling and meditation yoga is another stress management. Yoga, which derives its
name from the word,

My Life Changing Learning Experience
School has always come easy for me, and rarely am I ever challenged. I am currently a 4.0 student,
who has received A s their entire life, and I never had to work hard for a good grade. You can imagine
how surprised I was when I began this class because it pushed me like no other class has before. I
learned skills in this class that I will actually use in the future and real life. I have grown as a writer,
and a learner, like I never have before. Foundations of Writing is the hardest class I ve ever taken, but
it is by far my most life changing learning experience.
I had no doubt this class would be more challenging than any other english class I have taken, but the
structure helped tremendously. Before we learned a single thing in this class, we had to write two
essay. One was to see where we stood, in terms of our writing ability, and the other was our first
official paper. After we wrote the second essay, it was time to learn. We spent the next couple week
learning and practicing the skills required to write a good paper. After that we had the opportunity to
go back and fix our essay. This was so helpful for me, and it truly made the class much easier. I saw
how horrible my writing was, and I was able to fix what needed to be changed. If the class structure
was arranged in any other way, I would not have taken as much knowledge from it.
I have never in my life grown so greatly from a class and at the same time learned just as much. I am
certain that in the years to come,

1) I feel that our podcast project is a success when referring to our progress check in. The main goal
that I wanted to achieve was to create a podcast that will show soon to be lawyers and prosecutors that
they are incarcerating people with an illness, not criminals. This should lead to empathy and create
institutions that rehabilitate drug addicts rather than incarcerate them. The factors that deem this
progress a success are the systematic, institutional and personal problems that told listeners about. We
talked about the systematic problems that stemmed from Richard Nixon s War on Drugs and how
African Americans were disproportionately targeted. Next, we showed how the War on Drugs created
institutional problems. As an example we used the Medical University of Southern Carolinas policy to
drug test pregnant women, which led to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

mothers, specifically African American mothers. Using two personal accounts we talked about how
the incarceration of women of color leads to intergenerational poverty. This podcast clearly shows
how African American women are targeted through drugs and that incarceration is not the answer. 2)
Although our project incorporates diverse viewpoints, they are limited to what Rachelle and I were
able to access within the allotted time to record our podcast. We used scholars from class material,
personal accounts, and outside sources that stem from our Wiki assignment. We used Patricia Hill
Collin s Black Feminist Epistemology to validate the lived experiences of African American women.

factual evidence. We followed Patricia Hill Collin s work with two personal accounts, one of Janet

Differences Between The Book And The Constant Gardener
The Constant Gardener The Constant Gardener, which is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen,
is not fiction. After watching the movie, if you search the title on the internet, you will know the
shocking fact that this is a real story. The Constant Gardener originated from the novel The Constant
Gardener written by John le Carré in 2001, based on a real life case in Kano, Nigeria, related to
medical experimentation in the 1990s. Therefore, both the novel and the movie are mainly depicting
such a careless, indiscrete medical experimentation, with a few changes such as a change of location
and change of the medicine s name. Taking off these superficial alterations, the difference between the
real case and The Constant Gardener including both novel and movie―is virtually none.
Back to the movie, we can see a low level British diplomat Justin Quayle is the main character in this
movie. One day, his wife Tessa was found dead, Justin realized Tessa kept from Justin her secret that
she investigated a suspicious drug trial in Kenya and tried to expose it. Because of her attempt to
uncover the malpractices of an influential and powerful pharmaceutical company, she and her
colleague Arnold are brutally murdered. Getting to know the truth of Tessa s death, Justin decided to

In the poem Juggler , by Richard Wilbur, the speaker describes the juggler as someone able to lift the

himself is among those entertained.
Imagery is first used by the speaker to describe the soft, weightlessness of the ball in motion, as seen

Cause And Effects Of Internet Addiction
It has been many years since the creation of Facebook and it is difficult to imagine how we lived
without social networks and internet. New technologies changed people and world, it also gave us new
psychological disorders. We are not only used to internet, but became addicted to it. The term Internet
addiction in psychiatric practice was first introduced by the American psychiatrist Ivan Goldberg in
1995. Today doctors recognize that the internet addiction is a disease and put it in a same raw with
alcoholism and drug addiction which give people antisocial consequences. One of these doctors Dr.
Kimberly Young, conducted a study on this topic. According to her study today it is a really big
problem, specially for our kids. She was found that long and uncontrolled stay online causes negative
changes in consciousness and in the functional of the brain. This means person loss of ability to learn
and deep analytical thinking and can not work intellectual. What s signs of this disease? How this
addiction affects person s life and behavior ? And how to deal with it, what treatments exists? If
people are addicted to internet there are some signs: constant desire to be online, poor communication

Understand The Difference Between Wealthy And Poor...
Typically, us Americans categorize neighborhoods we see into two categories, which are wealthy and
poor neighborhoods. After observing families income in wealthy neighborhoods compared to poor
neighborhoods, they are drastically distinctive. Most families who have great amounts of money
generally live in a large house, while those who are classified as poor will be found in some unsafe
areas. These homes have different builds, exteriors may be maintained or may be filled with clutter,
and the families inside these homes may express different wants than the opposite class.
Unfortunately, wealthy and poor people both fall under a stereotype. The rich are looked upon as
snobby and prude, while the poor are seen as lacking intelligence or they could abuse drugs and

The Kinsey Scale
Human Sexuality 21

Pros and Cons of the Kinsey s Scale
Sex was such a horrible topic to talk about, but a biologist of Indiana University introduced a scale
that broke the silence. The silence changed due to this biologist named Alfred C. Kinsey (1894 1956).
Kinsey broke the silence because before the scale everyone would keep their sexual orientation to
themselves and most likely did not tell anyone. In other words, he was a great influence to people
because since then people have become a bit more open about themselves. The importance of Kinsey
is that he has conducted several of researches. For instance, on one of his research he found out that
many people had sexual experiences with both female ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They would view the life of homosexuals with a clear mind that isn t going to judge instead of fighting
against what they have been taught since birth. The gender roles teach people how to act according to
their sex; if someone goes against the traditional teachings than they are viewed as outcasts. Society
looks at them as a mishap. This article strengthens the Kinsey scale because it shows how subjective
views can affect the lives of people for the worse. For example, the subjective bias view of Wardle, a
law professor at Brigham Young University has affected the lives of homosexuals in several states
because he:
charged the legal profession and social scientists with an ideological bias favoring gay rights that has
compromised most research in this field and the liberal judicial and policy decisions it has informed.
He presented a harshly critical assessment of the research and argued for a presumptive judicial
standard in favor of awarding child custody to heterosexual married couples. The following year,
Wardle drafted new state regulations in Utah that restrict adoption and foster care placements to
households in which all adults are related by blood or marriage (Biblarz Stacey 2001).
Wardle s state regulations spread to Florida, Arkansas, and Mississippi [they] have [also] imposed
restrictions on adoption and/or foster care, and such bills have been introduced in the legislatures of 10
additional states (Biblarz Stacey 2001).

Portals And The Unattainable Essay
Cara Krebb s Sehnsucht: Portals to the Unattainable I spent my childhood in a modest white house in
northern Germany. I loved my home. I loved the gleaming stone floor. I loved the curving staircase,
adorned with decorative wrought iron. I loved the narrow hallways. Best of all was the attic. It was
accessed by a small sliding door tucked behind a large wardrobe. It was my secret place. It was my
own world full of wonder and excitement. Fifteen years later, I was riding a train to Salt Lake City
reminiscing about the trains I used to take through Europe. For a moment my home wasn t so distant. I
longed. I ached. I hoped for that place again. Sadly, I realized even if I were to return, even if I were to
prance across that polished stone floor, climb the twisted stairs, and open the sliding door once more,
the attic wouldn t be the same. That place was partially the physical locale, but mostly the imaginings
of an seven year old girl. That state of naivety of youth and wonder at the mundane could never be
reclaimed, yet I still ached for it. There is a word that Germans use for this immense desire for the
unreachable or the inconsolable longing in the human heart for we know not what; a yearning for a
far, familiar, non earthly, intangible land one can identify as one s home. Sehnsucht. That beautiful
familiar word from my German home greeted me as I walked into an exhibit at the Utah Museum of

  • 2. Porn and Prose Essay Porn and Prose Pornography has the ability to stay current with each technological breakthrough while pushing the borders of what we deem as acceptable in reading and writing. In, Writing Material: Readings from Plato to the Digital Age by Tribble and Trubek, an article by Gopnick notes the death of the word before its technological resurgence. Each new medium was more visually and sensually rich that the last: movies gave way to talking movies, which gave way to color talking movies, which gave way to round the clock talking color television. In that context, words just hung around looking glum, with hardly enough energy left to compose themselves into sentences (180). Gopnick then discuses the revolution of the Internet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The availability and widespread usage of Internet porn has made these mediums more accepted than in the past. While Playboy was once considered a novelty in the risqué, it is now considered tame compared to the material found on the World Wide Web. Playboy is also known for its articles and political satire. The common joke is that men only subscribe to Playboy for the articles , but more often than not, men are reading those articles. You can t say that for most of the porn found on the web. Reading has a history of association with sensuality. In On Women and Reading , from Tribble and Trubek, there is a painting of an elegant woman reading in a chair. The painting is whimsical in nature and depicts an enjoyment of the literature. She is fully clothed and without an erotic pose, but the softness of the painting coupled with the casual lounging with her book is somehow sensual. Novels were regarded with considerable suspicion by the respectable, especially the godly , who feared that female novel readers would become idle, sexually aroused, or obsessed with a fantasy world (Tribble and Trubek 338). This fear was in the context of reading, but today, with the popularity of Internet writing and publishing; women have found their own place in pornographic text. Sven Birkerts discusess the phenomenon of the waning of the private self and writes, For some decades now ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Resilience And Adversity Resilience The Power to Overcome Adversity The life of Nelson Mandela has inspired many to pursue the essence of resilience and the ways in which people recover from adversity to strength. The argument lies in whether resilience is a born quality or something that could be learned. In looking to find the answer to this question, I had to read several articles on the subject which turned out to be quite of a challenge, but most of the information available concluded that resilience is a process that is learned versus something that which is innate. It s a process that is learned from self motivation, life experiences and continual learning versus a quality that one is born with. Resilience is the outcome of successful adaptation to adversity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Insight is built on the experience of having been understood by a caring and attentive other and is a product of secure attachment. Consistent experiences of empathic attunement deepen our capacity for insight and reality testing. As we mature emotionally and cognitively we broaden our ability to recognize and appreciate others subjectivity and separateness as well as the capacity to reflect on our own experience. Inherent to this is an appreciation that other behaviors are not necessarily directed toward us, even when we are affected by them. These abilities are essential to resilience in that they allow us to tolerate experiences of existential isolation. It was this constellation of qualities that allowed Mandela to persevere in the struggle against apartheid and sustained him during the years spent on Robin Island. In the face of adversity, one has to be open to acceptance. The resilient individual is sustained by an inherent capacity for acceptance; that is an ability to accept what cannot be changed and ultimately embracing the life that one has been given. At times, this may involve a willingness to surrender, and nearly always, it demands an openness to love others as they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Inhibition Effect To test the possibility that inhibition effect was generated from the use of only two alternative peripheral stimuli, following experiment was carried out. A central box and four peripheral boxes were used in the experiment and the positive IOR result ruled out the possible explanation that inhibition limited to the two alternative boxes. In the double cue experiment, inhibition showed when attention was split to two sides by both simultaneously brightening peripheral boxes while no inhibition showed if the cue remained at the center in the arrow experiment. Therefore, Posner and Cohen concluded that attentional orienting is not necessary in inhibition of return. Another two experiments were conducted to determine the relation between inhibition and eye movement. In the first of the two experiments were Back and Forth Experiment, participants were asked to fixate to the center box and then read the digit from one of the two peripheral boxes, which was the cue. After that, returned their eyes to the center box when it was brightened. The target was given after the brightening of the central box. A strong inhibitory effect showed for at least 1.5 sec at the cued location. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rafal et al (1989) claim that rather than two separate pathways, endogenous and exogenous activations, oculomotor preparation may be a better explanation for IOR generation. Rafal et al (1989) conclude that endogenous and exogenous activations are competing with each other to access the oculomotor apparatus. IOR is generated regardless of whether oculomotor preparation was initiated endogenously or exogenously. However, it is suggested that IOR not only represents a change in attentional bias but also related to oculomotor system. IOR can be generated in both attentional and oculomotor systems (Hunt and Kingstone, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Carbonic Acid Levels Lab Report The effects of color on carbonic acid levels Mustafa Abdalla Alberto Moreno, D Mario Robinson, Alexis Downey, Mong Trinh Doan Biology 1441, Section 055; Prof. Corey Roelke; October 14th, 2014. Abstract: Different colors of light affect the development of plants in different ways. The rate of photosynthesis of each plant will differ depending on the color of the light that is emitted on it. Once the carbon dioxide is produced it will react with the water in the aquatic system, thus producing carbonic acid. We measured the carbonic acid levels with the help of phenolphthalein and sodium hydroxide to conclude that the brighter the color of the light is, the faster the plant will photosynthesize, and thus the lower the carbonic concentration of the aqueous solution. Plants use the process of photosynthesis to convert light energy into chemical energy, and carbon dioxide must be used up by the plants in order for this process to take place. On the other hand, cellular respiration produces carbon dioxide in order to convert stored energy into chemical energy (ATP. We will use Elodea for this experiment because they are simple aquatic plants. Therefore, the system that contained lower levels of carbonic acid also contained lower levels of carbon dioxide, and this concluded that photosynthesis took place since CO2 is a reactant molecule of the process, and was used up. Introduction: Elodea is a genus of aquatic plants scientifically known as Elodea canadensis or Elodea ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Death Of Romeo And Juliet s Death Once upon a time there was a boy named Romeo and a girl named Juliet, who lived separately but loved each other dearly. This story is about a boy and a girl whom their families hated each other deeply and they were enemies because they always fight with each other. The end of this beautiful love ended in tragedy with the death of the two star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Many people had different opinions about who to blame for Romeo and Juliet s death. Some of them said that the environmental factors (fate) caused their deaths. Others said that the authority Figures was blamed for their deaths. Part of people were blaming Romeo and Juliet (themselves) for their death. Actually, all of these statements blame for Romeo and Juliet s death and there are a lot of evidences that would support my opinion. One of the causes that lead to Romeo and Juliet s death is the environmental factors (fate included). Environmental factors have been about the time that they were living in, the feud between the families, and destiny. The feud of the families caused their death because if the families weren t enemies, then, they won t get married secretly, or god had chosen for them this life. I hear some noise. Lady, come from that nest, of death, contagion, and unnatural sleep. A greater power than we can contradict, Hath thwarted our intents. (5.3.156 159). Therefore, more mainlanders are willing to come to Hong Kong and there are more opportunities for them and Hong Kong people to communicate and work with each other. I saw how horrible my writing was, and I was able to fix what needed to be changed. If the class structure was arranged in any other way, I would not have taken as much knowledge from it. I have never in my life grown so greatly from a class and at the same time learned just as much. I am certain that in the years to come, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Podcast Project 1) I feel that our podcast project is a success when referring to our progress check in. The main goal that I wanted to achieve was to create a podcast that will show soon to be lawyers and prosecutors that they are incarcerating people with an illness, not criminals. This should lead to empathy and create institutions that rehabilitate drug addicts rather than incarcerate them. The factors that deem this progress a success are the systematic, institutional and personal problems that told listeners about. We talked about the systematic problems that stemmed from Richard Nixon s War on Drugs and how African Americans were disproportionately targeted. Next, we showed how the War on Drugs created institutional problems. As an example we used the Medical University of Southern Carolinas policy to drug test pregnant women, which led to ... Lastly, we talked about the personal problems that came from incarcerating mothers, specifically African American mothers. Using two personal accounts we talked about how the incarceration of women of color leads to intergenerational poverty. This podcast clearly shows how African American women are targeted through drugs and that incarceration is not the answer. 2) Although our project incorporates diverse viewpoints, they are limited to what Rachelle and I were able to access within the allotted time to record our podcast. We used scholars from class material, personal accounts, and outside sources that stem from our Wiki assignment. We used Patricia Hill Collin s Black Feminist Epistemology to validate the lived experiences of African American women. Collin s work gives a viewpoint that allows listeners to see the reality black women go through as factual evidence. • 34. Differences Between The Book And The Constant Gardener The Constant Gardener The Constant Gardener, which is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen, is not fiction. After watching the movie, if you search the title on the internet, you will know the shocking fact that this is a real story. The Constant Gardener originated from the novel The Constant Gardener written by John le Carré in 2001, based on a real life case in Kano, Nigeria, related to medical experimentation in the 1990s. Therefore, both the novel and the movie are mainly depicting such a careless, indiscrete medical experimentation, with a few changes such as a change of location and change of the medicine s name. Taking off these superficial alterations, the difference between the real case and The Constant Gardener including both novel and movie―is virtually none. Back to the movie, we can see a low level British diplomat Justin Quayle is the main character in this movie. One day, his wife Tessa was found dead, Justin realized Tessa kept from Justin her secret that she investigated a suspicious drug trial in Kenya and tried to expose it. Because of her attempt to uncover the malpractices of an influential and powerful pharmaceutical company, she and her colleague Arnold are brutally murdered. Getting to know the truth of Tessa s death, Justin decided to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Juggler Richard Wilbur Analysis In the poem Juggler , by Richard Wilbur, the speaker describes the juggler as someone able to lift the spirits of his audience through his spectacular performance. Through the use of literary elements such as imagery, tone, and figurative language, the speaker creates the image of the juggler as a gravity defying being, who not only lifts objects but also the heart of those that watch, and how the speaker himself is among those entertained. Imagery is first used by the speaker to describe the soft, weightlessness of the ball in motion, as seen by the audience. • 39. Understand The Difference Between Wealthy And Poor... Typically, us Americans categorize neighborhoods we see into two categories, which are wealthy and poor neighborhoods. After observing families income in wealthy neighborhoods compared to poor neighborhoods, they are drastically distinctive. Most families who have great amounts of money generally live in a large house, while those who are classified as poor will be found in some unsafe areas. These homes have different builds, exteriors may be maintained or may be filled with clutter, and the families inside these homes may express different wants than the opposite class. Unfortunately, wealthy and poor people both fall under a stereotype. The rich are looked upon as snobby and prude, while the poor are seen as lacking intelligence or they could abuse drugs and alcohol. • 40. The Kinsey Scale Human Sexuality 21 Professor Lanoix December 4, 2012 Pros and Cons of the Kinsey s Scale Sex was such a horrible topic to talk about, but a biologist of Indiana University introduced a scale that broke the silence. The silence changed due to this biologist named Alfred C. Kinsey (1894 1956). Kinsey broke the silence because before the scale everyone would keep their sexual orientation to themselves and most likely did not tell anyone. In other words, he was a great influence to people because since then people have become a bit more open about themselves. The importance of Kinsey is that he has conducted several of researches. They would view the life of homosexuals with a clear mind that isn t going to judge instead of fighting against what they have been taught since birth. The gender roles teach people how to act according to their sex; if someone goes against the traditional teachings than they are viewed as outcasts. Society looks at them as a mishap. This article strengthens the Kinsey scale because it shows how subjective views can affect the lives of people for the worse. For example, the subjective bias view of Wardle, a law professor at Brigham Young University has affected the lives of homosexuals in several states because he: charged the legal profession and social scientists with an ideological bias favoring gay rights that has compromised most research in this field and the liberal judicial and policy decisions it has informed. He presented a harshly critical assessment of the research and argued for a presumptive judicial standard in favor of awarding child custody to heterosexual married couples. The following year, Wardle drafted new state regulations in Utah that restrict adoption and foster care placements to households in which all adults are related by blood or marriage (Biblarz Stacey 2001). Wardle s state regulations spread to Florida, Arkansas, and Mississippi [they] have [also] imposed restrictions on adoption and/or foster care, and such bills have been introduced in the legislatures of 10 additional states (Biblarz Stacey 2001). • 41. Portals And The Unattainable Essay Cara Krebb s Sehnsucht: Portals to the Unattainable I spent my childhood in a modest white house in northern Germany. I loved my home. I loved the gleaming stone floor. I loved the curving staircase, adorned with decorative wrought iron. I loved the narrow hallways. Best of all was the attic. It was accessed by a small sliding door tucked behind a large wardrobe. It was my secret place. It was my own world full of wonder and excitement. Fifteen years later, I was riding a train to Salt Lake City reminiscing about the trains I used to take through Europe. For a moment my home wasn t so distant. I longed. I ached. I hoped for that place again. Sadly, I realized even if I were to return, even if I were to prance across that polished stone floor, climb the twisted stairs, and open the sliding door once more, the attic wouldn t be the same. That place was partially the physical locale, but mostly the imaginings of an seven year old girl. That state of naivety of youth and wonder at the mundane could never be reclaimed, yet I still ached for it. There is a word that Germans use for this immense desire for the unreachable or the inconsolable longing in the human heart for we know not what; a yearning for a far, familiar, non earthly, intangible land one can identify as one s home. It revolves around the opinions and mindsets of twelve diverse characters that are tasked with pronouncing the guilt or innocence of a young man accused of patricide. The extraordinary element is that their finding will determine his life or death. This play was made into a movie in 1957, produced by Henry Fonda who played the lead role, Juror #8, and Reginald Rose who wrote the original screenplay.
