Essay about Female Genital Mutilation
Female Genital Mutilation:
Barbaric Custom or Cultural Rite
I was shaking out of my skin with fear. I sat at Netsent s head so she couldn t cry out. The circumciser
began to cut with a razor blade. She cut everything: the clitoris, the inner and outer labia. There was so
much blood! This is an excerpt from an article that appeared in Marie Claire in April 2003. The
speaker is a girl by the name of Genet Girma, an Ethiopian, describing the conditions under which her
sister Netsent was forced to have her genitalia removed. Each year, two million girls undergo the
devastating and disfiguring practice of genital cutting (Goodwin 157). Genital cutting, widely known
as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), is the practice of cutting away parts of ... Show more content on

This practice is often associated with the religion of Islam, and is most often performed in Middle
Eastern and North African countries. In both of the African nations of Somalia and Djibouti, 98% of
women have had this procedure (Ahmad). Because of immigration, however, the practice of FGM has
recently become more prevalent in Europe and North America. Concerns for the health of women and
girls as young as three who are subject to this procedure, have led to legislation making FGM illegal
in the United States.
FGM is not a religious practice required by the Islamic faith. It has, however, become a law by custom
(Ahmad). Neither of the two main sources of Muslim Law, the Koran and the Sunnah, mention the
practice, and most Islamic scholars agree that it is not an Islamic religious rite. The practice has
become important to Islam because it is associated with female sexual purity. FGM is intended by its
practitioners to both control women s sexual drives and also to cleanse women s genitalia by removing
the clitoris, which is seen as masculine, a female penis. Because of its association with purity, young
women who have not been excised have little chance of marriage in the countries where FGM is

I Sit Before You A Self Proclaimed Sustainablatarian
I sit before you a self proclaimed Sustainablatarian. I ve come through a long list of food and lifestyle
choices and here is where I am today.
Many years ago, I heard someone say be true to yourself so I quit eating meat. I had wanted to for a
while, but it s hard to go against the grain; to do other than what our culture tells us is normal . When I
was growing up the hippies from the 60 s were still weirdo s so that s what I learned was the definition
of weird. Since those weird hippies were vegetarians I didn t want to be that. But sometimes it only
takes finally listening to something we ve heard a million times.
My choice was partially a dietary choice. I told myself that if I didn t eat the meat I would have to
supplement my diet was something and hopefully it would be healthier. And partially it was an ethical
choice. I had read Michael Pollen s article Power Steer among other things and knew about how
animals are treated and believe it to be wrong. I don t object to animals dying because that s part of the
cycle of life. Something has to die so the something else can live. I used to say I feel just as guilty
about the broccoli dying as the cow dying. I don t actually feel very guilty about either because I
believe it s the way Mother Nature set up our system.
Over time the dietary choice has melded with the ethical choice. It s healthier for me to eat food that
was raised healthfully. I m still choosing not to eat unhealthy foods and replacing

What Is The Endocrine System
The Nervous system is composed of trillions of neurons/nerve cells that forms a network to serve as
communication system for the body. The neurons are able to send electrical impulses from the brain to
the body and vice versa, which leads to a response from a person via a coordinated action.
The Endocrine system is a system which is composed of several glands found throughout the body,
where its role is vital for the communication in the body. The function of this system is for the
production and release of chemical messengers (hormones) from these gland into the bloodstream.
This direct release of the hormones into the blood will allow the hormones to be carried towards the
target organ that they are intended to go to. The following are examples of glands that are part of the
endocrine system: Hypothalamus, Pituitary gland, Thyroid gland, Pancreas, Adrenal glands.
However the two systems mentioned above are not directly connected with one another, but instead
they interact in various ways in order to achieve the same goal. ... Show more content on

The two systems are able to interact, as a result of the gland capable of affecting both systems. When a
person is experiencing numerous feelings/sensations that include pain, hunger, fear, thirst, anger and
the need for sleep, then the hypothalamus acknowledges this. Once this has happened, the gland
communicates with the autonomic nervous system which is a sub system of the peripheral nervous
system (PNS). The autonomic system is involuntary, therefore the changes that need to be made are
done so without the need for the person to do much since it occurs unconsciously within the

Human And Environmental Interactions Of The Salem Creek...
Human and Environmental Interactions Each watershed varies depending on location. The Salem
Creek watershed naturally consists of rocks, vegetation, water, clay and loam soils, slopes, and
juvenile aquatic life. Conversely, there is naturally some stream bank and soil erosion. As for human
features, the watershed consists of drainage pipes, sewage pipes, bridges, mounds of cement, and
pollution sources. Most of the human features are generally in the highly urbanized areas of the
watershed, which consists of northwestern portion of Winston Salem, NC. There were also impervious
surfaces bordering both sides of the watershed. On the stretch parallel to Old Salem Road, there was
Old Salem Road on one side of the watershed, and housing and other buildings on the other. With the
portion that is appears near South Main Street, there is a multiuse development and major road
bordering it. There is also cement on the furthest side of the watershed and a sidewalk on the other that
border the wide portion of the watershed that is located in the Salem Creek Greenway.
Many of these impervious surfaces have drainage systems that run directly into the watershed. As
shown above in the center picture, there is direct drainage from the street to the watershed with no
type of filtration, which in return has cause the glistening polluted puddle in front of the drainage pipe.

Jumping Genes
DNA is not only significant because it transfers hereditary information from generation to generation,
but the discovery of DNA and genetics has helped diagnose diseases and formulate treatments
customized to a person s specific biochemistry and genetic makeup. This experiment focused on the
Alu insertion on chromosome 16, also known as one of the jumping genes in the human genome. Yet,
Alu is technically not a gene and therefore, it has no effect on the organism s fitness. Although Alu
does not encode for any protein, it does appear to be stable over evolutionary time once inserted at a
specific chromosomal location (Batzer et al., 1994). This jumping gene can indicate the relationships
between human populations since not all chromosomes carry the Alu allele at a specific locus. ...

With this knowledge, a better analysis of population relationships can be achieved. In addition,
amplification of a specific Alu insertion with polymerase chain reaction (PCR) can be used to study
not only human migrational patterns, but also genetic mapping and genetic disorders (Novick et al.,
1993). There are many different applications this jumping gene has on the research associated with
DNA. However, the purpose of this experiment was to analyze the frequency of the Alu allele for the
entire class population and determine whether the class was in Hardy Weinberg equilibrium, which
would suggest that the allele frequency does not change over time. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
was used to amplify the Alu allele after the DNA was isolated, then gel electrophoresis was used to
analyze the

The Diary Of Anne Frank s The Diary Of Anne Frank
Who is Anne Frank? Anne Frank was young German Jewish girl born in 1929, her family were set out
to hide during the Holocaust ( Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect, n.d.). They would hide and live
in several annex rooms for a span of three hard long years ( Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect,

The Year-Round School Debate
A common debate among educators and school board members is the idea of year round schooling.
While many think this is best for students education, there are factors that could make it so it doesn t
affect their education or it makes matters worse. Most students are great full for their summer break.
They schedule family vacations, which are very important, and they are able to keep jobs with little to
no conflict in the summer. If that time was to be taken away, that would negatively affect students.
There are solutions other than making school go all year round.
A fact on year round schooling is that all schools would still take extended breaks after a set amount of
dates. The US Department of Education requires 180 days of attending school a year. One idea that a
school using year round school might use is the 60 20 plan. This means that students attend school for
60 days and get 20 days off. This also applies for the 45 15 and 80 30 plans. (Vandewater) ... Show

Also, the workload required of the teachers will go up. In addition, the students will be busy with
school work when they are usually on summer break. This is when most students will get jobs so that
school doesn t interfere. An employer will not want an employee that has to leave every week or so (
The Year Round School Debate ).
On the opposing side, researchers say that the long three months in the summer that students are not
attending school is when they lose the most information. Another benefit to switching to year round
schooling is that students will not get bored over the summer. They will have shorter breaks. It is also
said that hiring a tutor over the summer is not as good as some may think (Kalil). According to
another study, teachers and students don t have to spend as much time reviewing material that the
students learned the previous year. Also some schools that have switched to year round, got extra
funds

Newton And Einstein Research Paper
Newton and Einstein have changed science dramatically. They didn t just change the scientific world,
they conveyed many ideas and statements that would modified it for centuries to come. Without
Newton and Einstein s discoveries we wouldn t be where we are in the scientific world today. First of
all Newton developed the theory of gravity, he created the laws of motion, and he created a new and
better version of math called calculus. Newton was an English Physicist and also a Mathematician.

He conquered the obstacles and started to go to college at Trinity. At college he focused most of his

Abraham Ratner Still Life Analysis
Abraham Rattner is a painter who display bold color and expression and reflect social protest and his
Jewish heritage. He was born in 1893 in Poughkeepsie, New York. His parents immigrated to the
United States from Russia to escape anti Semitism, which was hostility towards the Jews. As Abraham
grew up, painting becomes a part of his daily life. After graduating from Poughkeepsie High School,
he studied art at George Washington University, The Corcoran School of Art, and The Pennsylvania
Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. In 1917, as the World War one raged, Abraham interrupted
his education and enlisted in the United States army. Two years later, when he returned to the
Pennsylvania Academy, he was awarded the Cresson traveling scholarship to study art abroad.
Abraham traveled throughout Europe for a year and then settled in Paris for the next twenty years. In
the 20th century artist continued traditions of still life painting in salons. Artist made personal
statements with their arrangements of fruits, flowers, books, and other inanimate objects and when
they painted these works in new modernist styles, they kept the public interested in the value of still
life painting. Abraham Rattner s painting Still Life Composition is one of the Brauer Museum of Art s
more popular permanent collection pieces, a major work by the artist that exhibits well the rich
qualities and expressive abilities of oil paint. Painted on a panel surface, this work stands astride

Ethics and Morality in Vegetarianism
The assumption that animals are without rights, and the illusion that their treatment has no moral
significance is a positively outrageous example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal
compassion is the only guarantee of morality. (Schopenhauer). I always wondered why some people
are not so drawn to the consumption of meat and fed up with only one thought about it. Why so many
people loathe of blood, and why so few people can easily kill and be slaughter animal, until they just
get used to it? This reaction should say something about the most important moments in the code,
which was programmed in the human psyche. Realization the necessity of refraining from meat is
especially difficult because people consume it for a long time, ... Show more content on

An ancient Greek philosopher and scientist Pythagoras was convinced that whoever kills an animal
without any remorse can easily kill a man. Other philosophers were even more straightforward and
indicated that cruelty to animals leads to wars. It leads me to believe that the attitude towards animals
is not something we can merely write off as a showcase of the innate cruelty of man , but an indicator
of our society s ethical level. If more people become aware of the suffering and death of animals that
we, as a people, have caused, and acknowledge it, it would be a small, but significant sign of moral
growth. Although moral principles have gained increasing recognition due to their usefulness for the
society, i.e. for pragmatic reasons, the evolution of ethics had different roots psychological and
spiritual. It is based on the person s ability for empathy: which is the basis of moral behavior of a
person, his kindness, and decency. It can be argued that the ability for empathy separates man from the
world of animals. With the development of spirituality and feelings of compassion, people began to
feel uncomfortable by the fact that their actions were constantly associated with the infliction of
suffering to other beings, and even their death. Even in ancient times, high minds have concluded that

Residential Treatment Center Case
In 2010, my cousin went on a hiking trip with her Residential Treatment Center (RTC). On that trip,

The Usa Patriot Act
In the mist of America ending its wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan here in the homeland we are still

narrow, and overarching that they leave too much room for interpretation which in the end has led to
violations of a person s rights that they are guaranteed by the US Constitution.
Since the passage of the USA PATRIOT ACT in 2001 by then President George W. Bush and the

the 2004 Madrid train bombings. The lawsuit stated that the FBI illegally and secretly broke into both
his home and office to gather evidence and were being protected under provisions of the US Patriot

Looking at an article titled How the Patriot Act Violates Virtually the Entire Bill of Rights written by

completely around violations of the US Patriot Act in regards to the Fourth Amendment of the U.S.

Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead By Tom Stoppard
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are dead is a very captivating book! It is a tragicomedy written by Tom
Stoppard. This book was written in 1964, also known to be during the devastating Vietnam War. The
play was published in 1967, and it played on Broadway in 1968. It won the Tony for best play. It is
based off of the very famous book Hamlet which was written by the very famous William
Shakespeare. It is the point of view of two characters from Hamlet: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

Unlike them, Hamlet does not seem confused by the world. He lights the scene, then plunges it into
darkness. His ability to control what viewers see indicates his power. He changes and affects people s
lives in ways that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern cannot. For example, he kills Polonius, then disposes
of the body. When Hamlet speaks, he frequently confuses other characters with riddles. Hamlet reads
the letter ordering his execution in England. But he reads it silently, masking whatever emotion he
might be feeling about his friends betrayal. Regardless of whether he is actually insane, Hamlet s
rational behavior stands in contrast to the slow, puzzled demeanor displayed by Rosencrantz and
Guildenstern. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern stand in for humanity as a whole. Unlike real people,
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern lack imaginative power and memory. For instance, Rosencrantz cannot
imagine England. He tells Guildenstern that he cannot picture himself leaving the ship or speaking to
the king. Rosencrantz cannot imagine the future. But neither he nor Guildenstern remembers who has
the letter for the English king. They cannot learn from their mistakes, nor can they conceive of acting
in any way other than what they have done before. Each moment exists separately from the one that
came before or the one that is to come, so that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are constantly being
surprised by their situations.

The Central Park Five Documentary
In one of the most well known cities of the United States, New York City was the central focus in the
1980 s. Five minority youths aged 14 to 16 were arrested and convicted of rape, sexual assault, and
almost murdering 28 year old white female investment banker, Trisha Meili, as she was jogging
through Central Park on the night of April 19th, 1989. These innocent Latino and African American
five young men Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Raymond Santana, Korey Wise, and Yusef

It was a time in the city s history to get the perpetrators of the crime committed and to be recognized

enforcement to figure out this awful incident. The demand from the public was pushing from all sides
of this story to get answers.
One thing that struck me while watching this documentar,y was the way that the New York media
sought out the information and relayed it back to the public. They created a humungous turmoil
against the five teenage boys, who they claimed were out wilding running in a wolf pack after their
predators . Mayor Koch stated, this will be a test of the system , regarding for the death penalty. The
public wanted to see how the system would handle such barbaric acts and whether or not they will
give them the death penalty for such crimes . Even multi millionaire Donald Trump wrote a full page

sparked my attention as to what pandemonium was going on in the city during that time. The amount
of discrimination and social tension between classes frustrated me, as I thought, well did the system

How I Started Learning Piano
I started learning piano when I was six years old. Even though I had to practice several hours a day
instead of playing outside, I enjoyed mastering a new piece and performing in front of an audience.
Unfortunately, my hands could not reach a full octave of keys. This made it impossible to play some
of the more complex pieces and I eventually stopped playing once I moved to the US. During my
freshman year of high school, a friend convinced me to try playing again on the piano located in an
isolated hallway of our school. Despite not touching a piano in years, once I placed my hands on the
keys, my muscle memory was sufficient to play the first half of Fur Elise . When she then gave me a
piece of music, I was surprised to see that I had not forgotten how to sight read, which was my least
favorite part of piano lessons when I was younger. Hesitantly, I was able to follow the sheet music and
start playing one hand at the time. As I practiced over the next few days, I could once again play most
of the pieces I once mastered. Just for fun, I even borrowed some of the pieces my friend was
practicing. My high school has a yearly competition between the grades call SING! Each grade would
create the sets and costumes to perform a one hour play, including acting, singing, and dancing. My
friend was to play the piano as part of the orchestra, and the pieces I have been learning were part of
the show. When she broke her wrist a mere half hour before the show, she recommended that I

Character Development In The Call Of The Wild

And strange Buck was to him, for of the many Southland dogs he had known, not one had shown up

the man in the red sweater had knocked all blind pluck and rashness out of his desire for mastery. He
was preeminently cunning, and could bide his time with a patience that was nothing less than

the dormant instincts in him. There he d been, denying The Wave could hurt anyone, and at the same

Comparing Medieval and Rennaisance Paintings Essay
Comparing Medieval and Rennaisance Paintings
In the following essay I shall compare and contrast paintings from the medieval and renaissance
period.
Medieval paintings were very realistic and precise.
The king in the painting is in the middle, and anything painted in the middle is the center of attraction
or the important object in the painting. To prove this theory, I looked at the painting and the first thing
that caught my eye is the king. The human body is not too detailed but the actions they are doing or
intend to do are very clear. The painter created visual space in this painting in a very witty way; he
painted pillars and ceiling ornaments, which is an indication of height and space. I think it is a very
successful method ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the following paragraph I shall briefly describe the renaissance painting. This painting is based on
the story of a poor man who couldn t pay his taxes. Then Jesus told him to go to a certain place where
he should cut open a fish and there he shall find a silver coin to pay his taxes with. He did so and paid
his taxes. On the left of the painting you can see the barrel of fish, one of the fish is where he got the
silver coin. In the middle Jesus is explaining the situation to the people. Masaccio always painted the
most important things in the middle. On the right the man is paying his taxes.
There are many things that the two paintings had in common some of the reasons are: It is similar in
the layout, A good example would be the objects in the middle. Jesus and the king are in the middle
and obviously they are the main characters in the painting. There is also lots of visual space on both
paintings e.g.: mountains, pillars. This is the case because the renaissance is the rebirth of the classics
and the classics were basically the medieval paintings. So the renaissance paintings were in a way
based on the medieval ones.
Renaissance paintings also differed from medieval ones. The Renaissance painting is laid out in a way
which tells a story, however the medieval one is showing an event which is virtually a fact or a point.
The Renaissance painting shows more detail than the medieval one and better use of

Value Chain And D S Agency. Whether Selling A Product Or
Value Chain and D S Agency
Whether selling a product or producing a service, companies have to find and establish a set of
competitive advantages (Gertner, 2013). These advantages should be advantageous to the customer
and also be sustainable to the company (Gertner, 2013). The value chain is a tool that companies can
use to analyze the steps they need to take to provide the highest level of service to its customers and
create a competitive advantage (Blocher, Stout, Juras, Cokins, 2016). The value chain analysis tool
can be taken to the next level when companies utilize it to help them assess where they can reduce
costs, which processes are not competitive or productive, and if there are any steps that can be
outsourced (Blocher, et ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The value chain works to uncover processes within processes so that the management team can
identify which processes are linked together and which processes are not needed at all (Gertner, 2013).
When Porter originally developed the concept of the value chain, he identified five activities that are
primary within any company and four activities that support the primary activities. The five activities
that are primary are operations, inbound and out bound logistics, service, and marketing and sales
(Pivoda, 2014). The four support activities are, human resource management, firm infrastructure,
procurement and technology development (Pivoda, 2014). All of these activities pulled together are
the independent activities that are actually interdependent on one another to a company s success
(Pivoda, 2014). The value chain evaluates each of these to determine how they can be improved to
better prepare the company s future. The value chain management system works by looking into each
system and/or process within the agency and evaluates them for defects. The value chain starts with
the inbound and outbound logistics of the company. These are defined as the planning processes,
storage and flow of goods, services and any related information from the company to the customer
(Chan, 2007). Operations are the next

Summary Of Empire Illusions
Out of the 7.5 billion people in this world the art of deception is used within every one of them. Any
person can talk to you and you would have no idea if they were lying. The majority of people believe
it s okay to twist the truth a little and make up stories that will benefit you in the end and make you
look better. Author of Empire Illusions Chris Hedges argues on how in politics the major essential
skill is artifice or a faux. How to be acknowledged by voters and potentially get their vote all you need
is a hoaxed narrative. Politics now a day is looked down upon because of the constant deceiving they
continue. Nobody wants to be lied to, especially by people who are leaders of the country they live in,
making promises you can t keep isn t the way to get votes. I don t stand by Hedges argument because
lying and manipulating citizens for a vote will only make them hate you in the end.
Generally speaking, one use of artifice by the government is when promoting mass media, hitting
people when they are at their utmost vulnerability, like after a tragedy. Hedges argument that artifice is
the correct thing is presented as a harmful deed. If voters were to find out that propaganda was
involved in a debate, the elect would lose a lot of people on his/her side. Hedges states that Political
leaders no longer need to be competent or honest, they only need to appear as if they are. In addition,
people want a leader who they know will make a difference and change our world for the better. My
dissent stays with this statement, lying is no way to manipulate voters who want and vote for a change
that possibly won t happen. Saying you will make a difference and actually doing it is what political
leaders need to be liked. For example, Donald Trump may not be bringing change for the better, like
building the wall and construction is meant to start in roughly a year although he changes aren t
beneficial they are taking place. Propaganda posters have been around since the American Revolution
and all they brought was fear and recurring war. For instance, Bernie Sanders started his goal was to
make college free, he knew people would go mad for something as expensive as college to be free, but
in reality, people knew making

3. OPPORTUNI TIES FOR EXPANSION OF CANBERRY BOG
Cranberry Bogs had been developed on natural wetland areas. The bogs were formed around the
margin of streams and ponds. Cranberries were one component of ecosystem. The commercial
cultivation of the cranberry altered to the ecological diversity of the bog. The functional value of
wetlands were recognized by environmental activists including physical and hydrologic properties
such as flood protection, ground water recharge and erosion control, biological and biochemical
functions and nutrient provision. Cranberry cultivation posed for developing wetland regulations. The
cranberry was a native wetland plant. The impacts of cranberry production on the aesthetic and the
intrinsic value of the wetland functions related to water quality and biodiversity. The studies
undertaken by the growers and the Ocean Spray suggested that the cranberry bog was low in diversity.
The cranberry growers protected large areas of land from urbanization. Cranberry Bog were the heart
of a unique growing system that included wetlands, uplands, ditches, flumes, ponds and reservoirs.
There were four acres of support land for every acre of cranberry bog. The entire Cranberry wetland
system provided a diversity of habitat for many rare animal and plant species. Hence the government
restricted the usage of bogs which were of high value to the environment. However, Cranberries had

Learning Online And Traditional Classroom Setting
During my educational journey I have experienced learning online and in a traditional classroom
setting. Working in a classroom allowed me to receive a more hands on approach with my learning
from my instructor. Learning in person helped me to seek help if I was confused, ask questions, and
receive a response immediately. Upon completing my work assignments, I was able to work side by
side with my classmates and collaborate, and work as a team. Most importantly, everything is at your
fingertips such as your class material and a physical textbook. In addition, in a classroom setting you
are able to take quizzes and tests that will help you retain the information by answering the questions.
However, learning online is totally a different ball game. When learning online most of the time there
is no test or quizzes involved, you work at your own pace, and the only material you will need is your
computer. Working at your own pace helps because, it allows you to work ahead and complete your
assignments according to your own schedule and not having to wait on your instructor. A great
advantage to learning online is, not having to travel to a physical classroom. Your work is available at
any time of the day. Everything I needed was in my computer so I didn t have to keep up with any
material or purchase any. However, learning online, helps you to focus more with fewer distractions
around you, but leaves you limitless to help when you need it.

Albert Bandura vs Raymond Cattell
Cattell was born in a small town in England. After seeing the deaths, and suffering of the people and
soldiers in World War I, Cattell began to have a huge curiosity in trying to fix the problems people
have in their lives by using science. Cattell was very big on personality, his definition of Personality is
that which permits a prediction of what a person will do in a given situation (Cattell). Cattells
definition of personality is very different from other theorist. Freud is a great example; Freud s theory
was that personality had three different types the id, the ego, and the super ego. A person that has a
strong personality can handle whatever happens to them and no matter how tough the challenge is for

Theses models provide examples of behavior, for the children to observe and imitate. Children tend to
pay attention to most of the models. At a later time in the child s life they may imitate the behavior
that they are surrounded by. This can be related to nurture. Nurture means the things that us, as
humans see in our environment not something we are born with that comes natural to us. Nature on
the other hand is something that we inherit from our genetics. I agree with the study Bandura
conducted I feel as if we do have things that we are just born with, but I feel like the things that tend to
happen around us are really what influence us and make us the way we are. I for one know that there
are many things that I learned just from being observation and watching adults and people that are
older then me like my brother, I watched him do just about everything and everything he did I wanted
to copy and that s why I feel that we as humans tend to be the people we are by the way we observe
things. The movie Kumare is about a fake guru, whose mission is to show people that gurus are not as

something is true and is something that you can relate to it no matter if the religious teachings are not

While I wished to provide an accurate testimony through media search, publications, and memoirs, I
realized this method would not be time efficient and would restrict my view to a traditionalist
interpretation since the events were seen firsthand. Utilizing solely primary sources would not have
been beneficial to my investigation as a whole. In order to include more revisionist perspectives,
which better portray my own, I used research collected by other historians to discover the different
aspects of United States involvement. The most difficult aspect of history is that there is no correct or
straightforward answer. All history is interpreted differently by the different people involved which
leads to biases. For this reason, there is no guarantee that the information will ever be entirely
objective. By looking at multiple sources, I was able to form an idea of the events that occurred while
viewing different interpretations with similar themes. One of the most important aspects of my
research was finding multiple sources that included similar information in order to verify the accuracy

Reflection On The Restroom
Today s experience at my site base was much different than on Monday. I came at the very beginning
of the school day, so that I could observe the procedures that Mrs. Wright uses when the students
arrive to school. Furthermore, I was able to participate more frequently during this observation than
the previous one, which I appreciated because I was able to get to know the students better. One aspect
of today s class that I felt worked really well was Mrs. Wright s morning routine. She welcomes the
students into the classroom and asks them to use the restroom. If the restroom is full, she allows the
students to go directly to the carpet where they can play with toys, such as blocks, magnetic
blocks/shapes, and Lego fences. Mrs. Wright kept mental note of students who went to the bathroom
and those who did not. Personally, I think it would be easier to have a checklist with ever student s
names on it, and place a check mark next to the student s name after they use the restroom. This would
ensure that all students go and would avoid accidents. It was very evident that the students were used
to this routine because they were aware of what they should have been doing. Naturally, there were
students who did not want to use the restroom, so watching how the teacher and her aids addressed
these challenges. Again, I disagree with the way that they handled these situations, they would grab
the student by the arm and drag them to the bathroom. This is very dangerous and not professional in
any way. Nevertheless, this only occurred twice in the morning. Another aspect of the day that I
thought went amazingly well was the cutting activity that Mrs. Wright had the students participate in.
She had created trolls for each student out of toilet paper rolls and she had glued pieces of
construction paper inside the toilet paper roll. The students were then asked to use scissors to cut the
construction paper hair off their trolls. The best part about this activity was that Mrs. Wright and Mrs.
Foster were keeping anecdotal notes of how the students were holding the scissors, which hand they
were using to cut, and if they were actually cutting the paper or just ripping it. This was amazing for
me to see because it allowed me

How The Pain And Trauma Of The Holocaust Affected Artie...
In Art Spiegelman s graphical novel Maus his demonstration of the Holocaust and its recollection in
Maus was very emotional, affecting and the most expressing. The approach that the author has taken
construes and magnifies the comical shape of telling history. It portrays Spiegelman dialog between
himself and his father about his happenings as holocaust and polish jew survivor. Most of the narrative
specifically focuses on Spiegelman s difficult connection with his father, and the nonappearance of his
mother who committed suicide when he was 20.In this essay I will be examining the experience of
trauma and memory in Maus. Also I will be showing how the pain and trauma of the Holocaust
affected Artie and Vladek s diasporic memories. Trauma usually describes the association with
chronological or combined traumatic proceedings to experiences that happen to others. These
occasions are internalized circuitously through images, and stories and other recaps and reminders of
their family s occurrences. Spiegelman also investigates and addresses the load and legacy of
distressing reminiscence on second generation survivors. In the narrative Maus discovers and
documents this behavior of dual memory. Throughout the story Art talks about the state of affairs in
which his father s reminiscences are expressed. The chronological and personal trauma produced by
the Holocaust, and by simplifying the reintegration of the following generation to its past.
At a particular detail, Art

The Organizational And Behavioral Sources Of Potential...
The article chosen for CASE was written by Chau titled An Empirical Investigation on Factors
Affecting the Acceptance of CASE by Systems Developers. This article examines the organizational
and behavioral sources of potential difficulties of CASE adoption among developers. Since CASE is
used solely by information system professionals, the study conducted by Chau was developed to
reveal factors that affect acceptance by systems developers (1996, p. 270). At the time of Chau s study,
CASE was a relatively new approach for information system professionals and many developers were
required to use it upon its implementation within a company. This change forced many information
system professionals to alter their work, skills, and attitude which often can result in resistance (Chau,
1996). The most significant effect Chau found for acceptance of CASE was ease of use and perceived
usefulness within the constructs of long term consequences. Since many of the information system
professionals in the study had limited experience with CASE, the gap in experience impacted the ease
of use and therefore acceptance of the CASE systems. Perceived usefulness within long term
consequences helped the information system professionals accept CASE since using new technology
can affect future career prospects. The CASE experience gained may help the individual in finding
and obtaining new positions. Chau suggested that it would be beneficial for a company implementing

  • 2. Essay about Female Genital Mutilation Female Genital Mutilation: Barbaric Custom or Cultural Rite I was shaking out of my skin with fear. I sat at Netsent s head so she couldn t cry out. The circumciser began to cut with a razor blade. She cut everything: the clitoris, the inner and outer labia. There was so much blood! This is an excerpt from an article that appeared in Marie Claire in April 2003. The speaker is a girl by the name of Genet Girma, an Ethiopian, describing the conditions under which her sister Netsent was forced to have her genitalia removed. Each year, two million girls undergo the devastating and disfiguring practice of genital cutting (Goodwin 157). Genital cutting, widely known as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), is the practice of cutting away parts of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This practice is often associated with the religion of Islam, and is most often performed in Middle Eastern and North African countries. In both of the African nations of Somalia and Djibouti, 98% of women have had this procedure (Ahmad). Because of immigration, however, the practice of FGM has recently become more prevalent in Europe and North America. Concerns for the health of women and girls as young as three who are subject to this procedure, have led to legislation making FGM illegal in the United States. FGM is not a religious practice required by the Islamic faith. It has, however, become a law by custom (Ahmad). Neither of the two main sources of Muslim Law, the Koran and the Sunnah, mention the practice, and most Islamic scholars agree that it is not an Islamic religious rite. The practice has become important to Islam because it is associated with female sexual purity. FGM is intended by its practitioners to both control women s sexual drives and also to cleanse women s genitalia by removing the clitoris, which is seen as masculine, a female penis. Because of its association with purity, young women who have not been excised have little chance of marriage in the countries where FGM is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. I Sit Before You A Self Proclaimed Sustainablatarian I sit before you a self proclaimed Sustainablatarian. I ve come through a long list of food and lifestyle choices and here is where I am today. Many years ago, I heard someone say be true to yourself so I quit eating meat. I had wanted to for a while, but it s hard to go against the grain; to do other than what our culture tells us is normal . When I was growing up the hippies from the 60 s were still weirdo s so that s what I learned was the definition of weird. Since those weird hippies were vegetarians I didn t want to be that. But sometimes it only takes finally listening to something we ve heard a million times. My choice was partially a dietary choice. I told myself that if I didn t eat the meat I would have to supplement my diet was something and hopefully it would be healthier. And partially it was an ethical choice. I had read Michael Pollen s article Power Steer among other things and knew about how animals are treated and believe it to be wrong. I don t object to animals dying because that s part of the cycle of life. Something has to die so the something else can live. I used to say I feel just as guilty about the broccoli dying as the cow dying. I don t actually feel very guilty about either because I believe it s the way Mother Nature set up our system. Over time the dietary choice has melded with the ethical choice. It s healthier for me to eat food that was raised healthfully. I m still choosing not to eat unhealthy foods and replacing ... • 4. What Is The Endocrine System The Nervous system is composed of trillions of neurons/nerve cells that forms a network to serve as communication system for the body. The neurons are able to send electrical impulses from the brain to the body and vice versa, which leads to a response from a person via a coordinated action. The Endocrine system is a system which is composed of several glands found throughout the body, where its role is vital for the communication in the body. The function of this system is for the production and release of chemical messengers (hormones) from these gland into the bloodstream. This direct release of the hormones into the blood will allow the hormones to be carried towards the target organ that they are intended to go to. The following are examples of glands that are part of the endocrine system: Hypothalamus, Pituitary gland, Thyroid gland, Pancreas, Adrenal glands. However the two systems mentioned above are not directly connected with one another, but instead they interact in various ways in order to achieve the same goal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two systems are able to interact, as a result of the gland capable of affecting both systems. When a person is experiencing numerous feelings/sensations that include pain, hunger, fear, thirst, anger and the need for sleep, then the hypothalamus acknowledges this. Once this has happened, the gland communicates with the autonomic nervous system which is a sub system of the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The autonomic system is involuntary, therefore the changes that need to be made are done so without the need for the person to do much since it occurs unconsciously within the ... • 5. Human And Environmental Interactions Of The Salem Creek... Human and Environmental Interactions Each watershed varies depending on location. The Salem Creek watershed naturally consists of rocks, vegetation, water, clay and loam soils, slopes, and juvenile aquatic life. Conversely, there is naturally some stream bank and soil erosion. As for human features, the watershed consists of drainage pipes, sewage pipes, bridges, mounds of cement, and pollution sources. Most of the human features are generally in the highly urbanized areas of the watershed, which consists of northwestern portion of Winston Salem, NC. There were also impervious surfaces bordering both sides of the watershed. On the stretch parallel to Old Salem Road, there was Old Salem Road on one side of the watershed, and housing and other buildings on the other. With the portion that is appears near South Main Street, there is a multiuse development and major road bordering it. There is also cement on the furthest side of the watershed and a sidewalk on the other that border the wide portion of the watershed that is located in the Salem Creek Greenway. Many of these impervious surfaces have drainage systems that run directly into the watershed. As shown above in the center picture, there is direct drainage from the street to the watershed with no type of filtration, which in return has cause the glistening polluted puddle in front of the drainage pipe. • 6. Jumping Genes DNA is not only significant because it transfers hereditary information from generation to generation, but the discovery of DNA and genetics has helped diagnose diseases and formulate treatments customized to a person s specific biochemistry and genetic makeup. This experiment focused on the Alu insertion on chromosome 16, also known as one of the jumping genes in the human genome. Yet, Alu is technically not a gene and therefore, it has no effect on the organism s fitness. Although Alu does not encode for any protein, it does appear to be stable over evolutionary time once inserted at a specific chromosomal location (Batzer et al., 1994). This jumping gene can indicate the relationships between human populations since not all chromosomes carry the Alu allele at a specific locus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this knowledge, a better analysis of population relationships can be achieved. In addition, amplification of a specific Alu insertion with polymerase chain reaction (PCR) can be used to study not only human migrational patterns, but also genetic mapping and genetic disorders (Novick et al., 1993). There are many different applications this jumping gene has on the research associated with DNA. However, the purpose of this experiment was to analyze the frequency of the Alu allele for the entire class population and determine whether the class was in Hardy Weinberg equilibrium, which would suggest that the allele frequency does not change over time. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to amplify the Alu allele after the DNA was isolated, then gel electrophoresis was used to analyze the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Year-Round School Debate A common debate among educators and school board members is the idea of year round schooling. While many think this is best for students education, there are factors that could make it so it doesn t affect their education or it makes matters worse. Most students are great full for their summer break. They schedule family vacations, which are very important, and they are able to keep jobs with little to no conflict in the summer. If that time was to be taken away, that would negatively affect students. There are solutions other than making school go all year round. A fact on year round schooling is that all schools would still take extended breaks after a set amount of dates. The US Department of Education requires 180 days of attending school a year. One idea that a school using year round school might use is the 60 20 plan. This means that students attend school for 60 days and get 20 days off. This also applies for the 45 15 and 80 30 plans. (Vandewater) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, the workload required of the teachers will go up. In addition, the students will be busy with school work when they are usually on summer break. This is when most students will get jobs so that school doesn t interfere. An employer will not want an employee that has to leave every week or so ( The Year Round School Debate ). On the opposing side, researchers say that the long three months in the summer that students are not attending school is when they lose the most information. Another benefit to switching to year round schooling is that students will not get bored over the summer. They will have shorter breaks. It is also said that hiring a tutor over the summer is not as good as some may think (Kalil). According to another study, teachers and students don t have to spend as much time reviewing material that the students learned the previous year. Also some schools that have switched to year round, got extra funds ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Newton And Einstein Research Paper Newton and Einstein have changed science dramatically. They didn t just change the scientific world, they conveyed many ideas and statements that would modified it for centuries to come. Without Newton and Einstein s discoveries we wouldn t be where we are in the scientific world today. First of all Newton developed the theory of gravity, he created the laws of motion, and he created a new and better version of math called calculus. Newton was an English Physicist and also a Mathematician. One of his very famous quotes is I can calculate the motion of heavenly bodies, but not the madness of people . But it was not easy for him to get to where he went. Albert was born on March 14 in 1879, in Wurttemberg, Germany, and grew up there. He started speaking at a late age of seven years old, making him develop a speech problem, this made him curious about silly ordinary things like time and space which help him want to become a scientist. His father gave him a compass, which made also made him want to become a scientist even more. He was homeschooled for one year and then sent to primary school. After entering school Albert did not like authority and was often rude and cocky to them, making many teachers not like him. He attended school and tried, but many teachers said he would never go far in life because of problems he had in school . Einstein was also Jewish, so this causes many problems for him since he lived in Germany right around the time the Nazi were invading. But these traits would help make these ordinary men become a face that no one ever forgot. He conquered the obstacles and started to go to college at Trinity. Ethics and Morality in Vegetarianism The assumption that animals are without rights, and the illusion that their treatment has no moral significance is a positively outrageous example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality. (Schopenhauer). I always wondered why some people are not so drawn to the consumption of meat and fed up with only one thought about it. Why so many people loathe of blood, and why so few people can easily kill and be slaughter animal, until they just get used to it? An ancient Greek philosopher and scientist Pythagoras was convinced that whoever kills an animal without any remorse can easily kill a man. Other philosophers were even more straightforward and indicated that cruelty to animals leads to wars. It leads me to believe that the attitude towards animals is not something we can merely write off as a showcase of the innate cruelty of man , but an indicator of our society s ethical level. If more people become aware of the suffering and death of animals that we, as a people, have caused, and acknowledge it, it would be a small, but significant sign of moral growth. Although moral principles have gained increasing recognition due to their usefulness for the society, i.e. for pragmatic reasons, the evolution of ethics had different roots psychological and spiritual. It is based on the person s ability for empathy: which is the basis of moral behavior of a person, his kindness, and decency. It can be argued that the ability for empathy separates man from the world of animals. With the development of spirituality and feelings of compassion, people began to feel uncomfortable by the fact that their actions were constantly associated with the infliction of suffering to other beings, and even their death. When Hamlet speaks, he frequently confuses other characters with riddles. Hamlet reads the letter ordering his execution in England. Regardless of whether he is actually insane, Hamlet s rational behavior stands in contrast to the slow, puzzled demeanor displayed by Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. • 18. How I Started Learning Piano I started learning piano when I was six years old. Even though I had to practice several hours a day instead of playing outside, I enjoyed mastering a new piece and performing in front of an audience. Unfortunately, my hands could not reach a full octave of keys. This made it impossible to play some of the more complex pieces and I eventually stopped playing once I moved to the US. During my freshman year of high school, a friend convinced me to try playing again on the piano located in an isolated hallway of our school. Despite not touching a piano in years, once I placed my hands on the keys, my muscle memory was sufficient to play the first half of Fur Elise . When she then gave me a piece of music, I was surprised to see that I had not forgotten how to sight read, which was my least favorite part of piano lessons when I was younger. Hesitantly, I was able to follow the sheet music and start playing one hand at the time. As I practiced over the next few days, I could once again play most of the pieces I once mastered. Just for fun, I even borrowed some of the pieces my friend was practicing. My high school has a yearly competition between the grades call SING! Each grade would create the sets and costumes to perform a one hour play, including acting, singing, and dancing. Comparing Medieval and Rennaisance Paintings Essay Comparing Medieval and Rennaisance Paintings In the following essay I shall compare and contrast paintings from the medieval and renaissance period. Medieval paintings were very realistic and precise. The king in the painting is in the middle, and anything painted in the middle is the center of attraction or the important object in the painting. To prove this theory, I looked at the painting and the first thing that caught my eye is the king. The human body is not too detailed but the actions they are doing or intend to do are very clear. The painter created visual space in this painting in a very witty way; he painted pillars and ceiling ornaments, which is an indication of height and space. I think it is a very successful method ... On the left of the painting you can see the barrel of fish, one of the fish is where he got the silver coin. In the middle Jesus is explaining the situation to the people. Masaccio always painted the most important things in the middle. On the right the man is paying his taxes. There are many things that the two paintings had in common some of the reasons are: It is similar in the layout, A good example would be the objects in the middle. Jesus and the king are in the middle and obviously they are the main characters in the painting. There is also lots of visual space on both paintings e.g.: mountains, pillars. This is the case because the renaissance is the rebirth of the classics and the classics were basically the medieval paintings. So the renaissance paintings were in a way based on the medieval ones. Renaissance paintings also differed from medieval ones. The Renaissance painting is laid out in a way which tells a story, however the medieval one is showing an event which is virtually a fact or a point. • 23. Summary Of Empire Illusions Out of the 7.5 billion people in this world the art of deception is used within every one of them. Any person can talk to you and you would have no idea if they were lying. The majority of people believe it s okay to twist the truth a little and make up stories that will benefit you in the end and make you look better. Author of Empire Illusions Chris Hedges argues on how in politics the major essential skill is artifice or a faux. How to be acknowledged by voters and potentially get their vote all you need is a hoaxed narrative. Politics now a day is looked down upon because of the constant deceiving they continue. Nobody wants to be lied to, especially by people who are leaders of the country they live in, making promises you can t keep isn t the way to get votes. I don t stand by Hedges argument because lying and manipulating citizens for a vote will only make them hate you in the end. Generally speaking, one use of artifice by the government is when promoting mass media, hitting people when they are at their utmost vulnerability, like after a tragedy. Hedges argument that artifice is the correct thing is presented as a harmful deed. If voters were to find out that propaganda was involved in a debate, the elect would lose a lot of people on his/her side. Hedges states that Political leaders no longer need to be competent or honest, they only need to appear as if they are. In addition, people want a leader who they know will make a difference and change our world for the better. My dissent stays with this statement, lying is no way to manipulate voters who want and vote for a change that possibly won t happen. Saying you will make a difference and actually doing it is what political leaders need to be liked. For example, Donald Trump may not be bringing change for the better, like building the wall and construction is meant to start in roughly a year although he changes aren t beneficial they are taking place. Propaganda posters have been around since the American Revolution and all they brought was fear and recurring war. I came at the very beginning of the school day, so that I could observe the procedures that Mrs. Wright uses when the students arrive to school. Furthermore, I was able to participate more frequently during this observation than the previous one, which I appreciated because I was able to get to know the students better. One aspect of today s class that I felt worked really well was Mrs. Wright s morning routine. She welcomes the students into the classroom and asks them to use the restroom. If the restroom is full, she allows the students to go directly to the carpet where they can play with toys, such as blocks, magnetic blocks/shapes, and Lego fences. Mrs. Wright kept mental note of students who went to the bathroom and those who did not. Personally, I think it would be easier to have a checklist with ever student s names on it, and place a check mark next to the student s name after they use the restroom. This would ensure that all students go and would avoid accidents. It was very evident that the students were used to this routine because they were aware of what they should have been doing. Naturally, there were students who did not want to use the restroom, so watching how the teacher and her aids addressed these challenges. Again, I disagree with the way that they handled these situations, they would grab the student by the arm and drag them to the bathroom. This is very dangerous and not professional in any way. Nevertheless, this only occurred twice in the morning. Another aspect of the day that I thought went amazingly well was the cutting activity that Mrs. Wright had the students participate in. She had created trolls for each student out of toilet paper rolls and she had glued pieces of construction paper inside the toilet paper roll. The students were then asked to use scissors to cut the construction paper hair off their trolls.
