Argumentative Essay On Cosplay
Secondly, cosplay improves imagination, creativity, and ability development. The costumes fans
wear are usually self made, though in some cases they are purchased from shops. Nicolle
Lamerichs, a cosplayer says that the community is crucial here to the development of costuming
skills. The process of sewing the costume and guaranteeing its authenticity is therefore very
important. (Lamerichs) According to this, it is clear that while cosplayers make their own
costumes, it improve their imagination, creativity, and ability development.
Thirdly, cosplay improves liberalization in people. Cosplayers generally participate in cosplay
because they want to improve their self esteem. Cosplay allows a person to become a different
person. They gain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, many people strongly believed that this trend brought more adverse than good effects to
teenagers. The major reason is that cosplay is very time consuming and/or costs a lot of money.
Teenagers tend to spend most of their precious time to make their costumes if they can t afford
the money to buy the costumes. Based on a survey done by Robin S. Rosenberg and Andrea M.
Letamendi, The total time spent preparing costumes varied between 1 to 450 hours. The average
time spent preparing a costume was 44.16 hours. Each respondent was asked to answer questions
about their most time intensive costume. According to responses, these types of costumes took an
average of 133.58 hours. The most recent time intensive costume took 47.3 hours on average. On
another hand, cosplayers are unable to make the costumes, they spend a large portion of their
money to buy costumes. According to the survey, the majority of respondents spend between
$100.00 $399.00 per costume (30% reported between $100.00 $199.00 and 24% reported
between $200.00 $399.00 per costume). Nine percent of respondents reported spending $0 $50.00,
16% of respondents reported spending $51.00 $99.00, and 13% of respondents reported spending

Learning Disabilities Essay
Learning Disabilities
Eleven year old Anna is outgoing and bright. She attempts to work hard, but her progress in
school has always been slow. She is a year behind her peers, particularly in her English class and
her teachers have slowly begun to reduce their expectations of her. Her parents are worried
because her confidence for learning is decreasing, and there is less motivation for her to do
homework and class assignments. A psychologist found that her intelligence is in the gifted range,
but she has difficulty in making out written symbols. It is easy to make the assumption that Anna
seems merely as a child who is slow intellectually, but when taking a closer look, it shows that she
is just as intelligent but happens to suffer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this mandate, came the difficulty of defining what exactly a learning disability constitutes.
Learning Disabilities generally is viewed as a category in federal legislation referring to disorders
involved in understanding or using language, manifested in imperfect ability to listen, think, speak,
read, write, spell, or do mathematical calculations (EBSCO, 2005, p.1). Students with learning
disabilities have average or above average intelligence but suffer from impaired brain functions or
also known as neurological handicaps. This impairment makes it difficult for them to acquire
skills and knowledge accurately and fast enough to keep pace with average academic progress.
Once believed to be rare, learning disabilities are now believed to affect approximately 5 percent
of the population (Encarta, 2003, p.1); many experts believe the percentage to be actually higher.
Learning disabilities do not refer to a single disorder, but to a wider range of problems, which can
include language, memory, attention, and organization; that can affect any area of academic
performance.
Causes of Learning Disorders
...Students with learning disabilities are by far the largest and the fastest growing special needs
group in the American school population (Smith Strick, 1997, p. 11). With this being the case, urgent

The Fall Of The House Of Usher Effect
Edgar Allan Poe once said that the artistry of narratives is in the ability to achieve a unity of
effect (Clement, lecture notes). In his narrative The Fall of the House of Usher, a man gets a
letter from an old friend who wants him to go to his family estate because he is sick. When he
arrives, he notices that his friend and his sister are not the only ones affected by illness. It is
obvious that the house is too. The illness leads to the death of the Ushers and also the destruction
of the house. In The Fall of the House of Usher, Poe makes death and decay, as well as overall
illness, his unity of effect. He creates this effect by using the different features of narratives. He
establishes this effect through his narrator, the setting of the story, and the events that affect the
characters. In this short narrative, there are many textual examples that enforce the effect of death,
decay, and illness. In the succeeding paragraphs, I will be analyzing the style, setting, narrator,
characters, and conflict of this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the early time periods where oral narratives were the only form of story, narratives existed to
teach a lesson or to illustrate a moral. In the medieval period, narratives were for entertainment. It
wasn t until the nineteenth century that tales became about truth. Narratives like The Fall of the
House of Usher aren t about teaching or entertaining. These narratives are about the message or
experience that is being created through writing. They are about presenting readers with an effect
that is made to be felt and thought about. In The Fall of the House of Usher readers are left with
the feeling of death, decay, and illness because of Poe s use of language, story world, narrator,
characters, and conflict. Edgar Allan Poe did an effective job of using his writing to portray the
effect he wanted to deliver to everyone who read his

1984 Vs Present Day Analysis
All throughout the world of George Orwell s 1984, Winston is constantly being watched through
the telescreens, and when it was believed that he is not being stalked, microphones are hidden that
catch every word. While in the present day, there is nothing that extreme, the government keeps an
eye on everything that is done. Many things are similar such as video surveillance, and
communication. These two concepts play huge roles in both the fictional world of 1984 and the
present day.
Video surveillance is highly prevalent in the world of 1984. Winston is constantly being watched
everywhere he goes; telescreens are always on and observing all that is within view. This is similar

to convey thoughts and meaning. (O Connor 1). These are all fine examples of how words are
being conformed to an ever changing younger society. The old days of watching the mailbox and
writing drawn out letters to the people right down the street are long gone. The need to even send
letters across the world is obsolete thanks to the Internet and social media. The book of 1984, as

Gantt Chart Analysis
Introduction
I have been assigned the job of creating a project schedule for the construction of a new hotel
complex in Preston Town Centre; it is next to a major roundabout in the town centre which is less
than half a mile away from the local train station and bus station. As planning permission has been
approved, work will begin shortly on constructing the complex.
I have been given a list of all the major tasks that are included in building the complex as well as
the duration of each task and an approximate cost of each job, as per standard I will be charging

The analysis needs to be consistent as it relies on being accurate to complete the analysis as if it
isn t consistent then there will be problems if they are not spotted and rectified before the
construction of the complex.
If the analysis does not have good documentation the project will fail as there will be no
explanation or details on how the construction should work, there would be no approximate dates
for when each task is due to be started or finished, as well as the approximate duration of tasks.
This means that as important as costing is, it ensures that the company can make a profit from the
project or they will not want to extend their business if it will lose them money as they will have to
pay out more for construction, rent, labour and bills

Short Note On Gandhi s Room
I was surprised to discover that Gandhi s room was nothing more than a cell that could only be
accessed by walking out onto the rooftop. His cramped abode probably measured no more than
three feet across by seven feet long with an overpowering stench of raw onions. Gandhi turned
graciously to my mum and said, So you are the special woman assigned to look after me? I am a
very lucky man. Flirting again Mr Gandhi? teased Muriel. Gandhi let out another one of his
infectious laughs. Just ring ya bell and I ll be there at yer service Mr Gandhi, cooed Mum. He

incessantly at everything. The dunce patted the floor for me to join him, and reluctantly I
obliged. I say, remarked Mum, You ve kept your room very neat and tidy. Where s all yer stuff
Mr Gandhi? Mum enquired. With a single sweep of his hand he motioned, This is it. My whole
existence. I m afraid I lead a cluttered life, Grinning boyishly. Do, you think that I should throw
more of my possessions away? I was convinced that the man s head was empty just like his room
which contained only a thin bedding blanket on the floor, a spinning wheel, some white cloth
folded neatly in the corner along with a bowl, knife and spoon and a few books. Ole ya poor
man Mr Gandhi. Is this all you can afford? said Mum. Mrs Dobie, in my heart I am a very rich
man. My measly mere possessions are nothing more than a means to an end. Replied Gandhi, We
re quite poor, lamented Mum. When the heart is brimming with the love of God then the human
spirit is never poor Mrs Dobie, said Gandhi. Mum stared into his eyes contemplating his words. He

When someone thinks about the Holocaust, they think about the millions of Jews murdered at the

the Nazis. Unfortunately, people overlook the Jews that did not get a chance to survive. Hundreds

Film Analysis Of Lina Lamont In Singin In The Rain
In Hollywood actors and actresses are expected to have a certain image. This was not the case
for Lina Lamont in Singin In The Rain. Lina Lamont had the perfect image for silent films, but
when it came to talking, she had a high pitched voice that no one wanted to hear. When Lina and
Don made a talking motion picture, Lina had to fake her voice or face the consequences of
being laughed at by everyone in Hollywood. The company hired another woman to be the voice
of Lina for the films. You mean it s gonna say up on the screen that I don t talk and sing for
myself? They can t do that! They can t make a fool out of Lina Lamont. They can t make a
laughingstock out of Lina Lamont. What do they think I am, dumb or something? This event in
Singn In The Rain shows the audience how manipulative Hollywood can be. The people viewing

Differential Association Theory Differential association theory was Sutherland s major sociological
contribution to criminology; similar in importance to strain theory and social control theory. These
theories all explain deviance in terms of the individual s social relationships. Sutherland s theory
departs from the pathological perspective and biological perspective by attributing the cause of
crime to the social context of individuals. He rejected biological determinism and the extreme
individualism of psychiatry, as well as economic explanations of crime. His search for an alternative
understanding of crime led to the development of differential association theory. In contrast to both
classical and biological theories,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Negatively, this means that the learning of criminal behavior is not restricted to the process of
imitation. A person who is seduced, for instance, learns criminal behavior by association, but
this would not be ordinarily described as imitation. 9. While criminal behavior is an expression
of general needs and values, it is not explained by those general needs and values since non
criminal behavior is an expression of the same needs and values. Thieves generally steal in order
to secure money, but likewise honest laborers work in order to money. The attempts to explain
criminal behavior by general drives and values such as the money motive have been, and must
completely to be, futile, since they explain lawful behavior as completely as they explain criminal
behavior. They are similar to respiration, which is necessary for any behavior, but which does not
differentiate criminal from noncriminal behavior. (Sutherland, 1974: 75 76) In summary, he
believed that an individual s associations are determined in a general context of social organization
(for instance, family income as a factor of determining residence of family and in many cases,
delinquency rate is largely related to the rental value of houses) and thus differential group
organization as an explanation of various crime rates is consistent with the differential association
theory. (Sutherland, 1974: 77) Much of Sutherland s theory relied upon the work of Chicago school

Theme Of Social Class In The Outsiders
In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, there are many important themes, including recognizing the
importance of family, understanding how social class can mold who you are as a person, and
facing challenges. The main characters in the novel faced challenges due to their circumstances
and social class. Through these challenges, they learned the importance of family and friends
and had to make mature decisions. By the end of the novel, Ponyboy especially, had grown up
staggeringly. Although Ponyboy has dealt with problems in his family and because of his low
social class he matured throughout the novel. The main theme of The Outsiders centers around
the importance of family. Ponyboy and his brothers made sacrifices for their family. Darry, the
eldest brother, had a chance to go to college and be successful, but he chose to take care of his
two brothers, Ponyboy and Sodapop. Family doesn t have to be blood. Johnny s parents abused
him, so he felt like the Greasers were more of family to him than his parents. The Greasers
supported, protected, and looked out for Johnny. The Socs, who are the Greasers biggest
enemies, turned to their gang for family too because the parents of the Socs only gave their
children money and didn t take care of them. Society and class was another big theme in The
Outsiders. Ponyboy was born into a low social class. His parents died, so he had to rely on his
brothers and the Greasers. They were poor and had to work to get basic needs like food and
water. Since the Greasers had a low social class they were looked down upon as trouble makers
even when they were being helpful. When Ponyboy and Johnny saved children out of a burning
church, it was written in the paper that juvenile delinquents had turned heros. The Socs on the
other hand had money. They fancy cars like Mustangs and Corvairs and wore nice clothes. They
were considered heroes even though they didn t do anything heroic. They caused trouble in the
neighborhood by throwing beer blasts and jumping Greasers. Society overlooked character due to
social class. Social classes limit people too. Darry, a Greaser and Paul, a Soc had the same qualities
to be successful and go to college. Darry however, was held back because

The Causes Of Ethnic Diversity In The United Kingdom
Ethnic Diversity in United Kingdom Immigrants, are they really the bad people or are you? Some
say immigrants affected the ethnic diversity. Culture, language, and religion are different in many
ethnic groups, it s amazing on how many different things you can learn. Is it vital that the migration
that happened during the late 19th century has led to an effect amongst the ethnic diversity in the
United Kingdom? In this paper internet sources contained many more accurate information. Books
talked very little about ethnic diversity in United Kingdom. In addition to talking about the 19th
century immigrant the internet had many sources that talked about it. Books contained information
but very information about each ethnic group. Using the internet went into more details about each
ethnic group. It was easier finding more information on the internet than the books. Finding
information in books never change but on the internet the information can be updated. These
sources contained information about the British Asians,Africans,White European,Mexicans, and
immigrants. Using the internet over books gather more information about ethnic groups and
immigrants.
Before we begin, it is important to understand a few key terms related to our studies: ethnic
diversity, ethnic groups, and cultural diversity. Ethnic diversity can mean different things in
varying contexts. It means races from around the world just different in language and skin tone.

Characterization in Sister Carrie Essay
Characterization in Sister Carrie
The theme of unrequited love and unfulfilled ambitions, against a backdrop of a nation being
transformed by industrialism and capitalism, provides the substance of Theodore Dreiser s Sister
Carrie. During the late 19th Century we encounter three main characters who demonstrate this
underlying motif: Carrie Meeber, Charles H. Drouet, and George W. Hurstwood. Carrie will
fulfill many of her desires for riches and success, but her insatiable appetite will leave her feeling
dissatisfied at the end of the novel and all alone. With respect to the two men who most covet her
affections, Charles Drouet and George Hurstwood we have a study in contrasts. About the only thing
Drouet and Hurstwood have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Eby (2) notes, Carrie is not one to submit to a solemn round of industry while postponing
gratification. Appropriately, Carrie s first lover is a drummer or traveling salesman who goes on
the road to market his company s wares.
Neither Carrie nor Drouet produce anything. Carrie uses her natural beauty and charms to consume
the goods Drouet s money provides, but Drouet only makes his money from moving goods not
producing them. As much as neither Carrie nor Drouet produce anything tangible, they are both
necessary kinds of people in the new industrial nation. Eby (2) confirms this reasoning, Drouet
produces nothing tangible to sell, but the efforts of thousands like him kept goods moving to their
ultimate destination, consumers. Potential buyers like Carrie with easily manipulible desires are
also essential: without desire, the consumer economy stalls.
Drouet is written like a character who might become someone like Willy Loman should he ever
settle down and marry and raise children. This is because he is young and good looking and can
use his charms to woo consumers to purchase his products. Nevertheless, Drouet does not accept
the realities of his situation. Like his clothes and manners, if he does not like reality he tries to
modify it through a variety of means, from running away and denial to the pursuit of superficial
pleasures as a means of escape.

The Importance Of Natural Resources
In today s fast pace society, we often do not pay much attention to the amount of natural resources
we are consuming, and the limited supply of these resources that we will have in the future. The
depletion of natural resources is the consumption of a resource faster than it can be replenished. All
humanbeings depend on these natural resources for our basic needs. People often take for granted
the abundance of natural resources we have as of now, and use them at an unsustainable rate,
putting many of these resources on the verge of becoming depleted. It is reported that humans are
using 30% more resources than the Earth can replenish each year, thus leading to deforestation,
degraded soils and land, and polluted air and water. Our current world populationis 7.2 billion and
growing at a rapid rate of about 1.14% per year, however the earth s natural resources are only
sustainable for 2 billion at the current demand. As populations grow, consumption increases at a
faster rate than technology can find new ways to produce natural resources, and the problem
gradually gets worse. At the way humans are living, we are using 2 3 times more of the earth s
natural resources than what is sustainable. Our ecological footprint is 1 ВЅ times the earth s ability
to provide the resources needed to meet this level of consumption. When humans need
employment, food, or ways to raise their standard of living, they often look to practices such as
deforestation and burning of fossil fuels as easy

forward to January 9, 2007, and the first generation iPhonewas released which revolutionized the

the trademark home button found on the bottom of the display. The first generation iPhone also
featured an impressive 2 megapixel camera, had a 320x480 pixel display, 128 MB of RAM, 4

to the iTunes Store, web browsing via Safari, email capabilities, and even included Google Maps

impressive, but in 2007 the iPhone was something to get excited about, as it was the only phone
at the time to have a touch screen display compared to the sea of plastic sliding phones such as
the Nokia N95, flip phones such as the RAZR, and Blackberry s (Segan). In many ways the first

Loss Of Freedom In A Pair Of Silk Stockings And A Wagner...
The Loss of Freedom A Pair of Silk Stockings and A Wagner Montee In the stories of A pair of
silk stockings and A Wagner Montee the theme of loss freedom is shown through their past,
present and their emotional reactions leads one to shelter themselves from the harsh realities of
the real world for the main characters. In A Pair of Silk Stockings the main character Mrs.
Summers is held captive in a shallow everyday obligation to the nurturing of her children,
creating very little time for herself. This can be seen when The neighbors said that She had no
time no second of time to devote to the past. Her heart is so depressed that she mainly focuses
on making it one day at a time. This is shown when but luckily no to morrow never comes. Mrs.
Summers need for freedom is mirrored in how gently she placed her hand upon the counter
feeling something very soothing, very pleasant to the touch. The brush of her hands, frees Mrs.
Summers hidden soul. Her desires for the limited extravagance of her forgotten life is awakened.
She battles for her freedom even if it is for a day.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aunt Georgiana gave up her freedom and the love of music for a marriage that concealed her
true identity. She isolated herself from her past. This can be seen when Clark the nephew said
She seemed not to realize that she was in the city where she had spent her youth, the place
longed for hungrily half a lifetime. All of the life that was once inside of her, are in hiding.
Afraid of showing her emotions, she locks them up, thus locking herself up from reality. I could

her own nephew, the one she shared her love of music with. All her freedom has disappeared along

Glossophobia Is The Fear Of Public Speaking
Importance of Communication
Glossophobia is the fear of public speaking. The average person ranks the fear of public speaking
higher than the fear of death. According to the National Institute of Mental Health over 74% of
people suffer from speech anxiety (Brain, 2016) . This is a sad statistic being that communication is
the backbone of our society. It is what allows us to connect with others. Without communication
skills, we would not be able to form relationships, whether in our personal or professional lives.
We, as a society, tend to think that communication is only verbal. However, communication
includes nonverbal, written, even listening, as well as our body language. In fact, over 70% of our
communication is nonverbal. In this class I hope to improve on my interpersonal communication
by learning ways to overcome my fear and setting new standards in the way I communicate with
others. In my personal life, improper communication has led to more than one situation that caused
hurt to someone I love. Likewise, I have been on the receiving end of hurt directly as a result of
poor communication.
Currently, if I were to rank my comfortability in speaking in front of the class, I would say it
would be a 4 out of 10. I know many people would think it would be higher, but the fact of the
matter is I have an anxiety when it comes to public speaking. Being an extroverted personality
often leads people to believe I would have no problem speaking in public, but when the spotlight
is on, it is an entirely different story. The moment I know I must get up in front of a group of
people, I start to feel dread, my stomach goes into knots, my heart starts to race, and my palms
get clammy. I always try to be the first speaker so that these feelings of dread can disappear
sooner than later. Ironically, after I finish speaking (assuming it went well) I feel a sense of
accomplishment. There is a remarkable sense of pride that comes with effectively communicating
to your peers and being well received.
My hope is that by taking this Communication 100, I will find new ways to effectively
communicate, which will not only help me grow as a person, but will further my success in the
competitive job market. Some of the

Short Story Analysis
Unease. Thrilling. Surprise. These are simply three feelings thrown at the reader all happening in a
one page story. Short short stories often have the affect of making the reader feel uneasy. The
reason behind this, is because the stories are so short the writer needs to jump directly into the story
with something interesting or alarming to grab the reader s attention. Often, the more uneasy the
writing is, the more it leaves an effect on the reader. Clearly, some stories are more uneasy than
others. Sudden Fictionis a book filled with endless short stories within an average of three pages to
a story. Not only does the content lead the reader to become uneasy, but so do the title. The short

bombarded with some of the most awful things, and she acts as though there is nothing wrong. Not
only has her whole family died, but then Timmy gets kidnapped, she gets raped, and her brother s
car gets stolen before her own eyes. Throughout this whole morning she does nothing but try to read
the paper and stir her coffee. The reader truly sees how emotionally unstable this woman is
throughout the story. There are several events happening to her and she could so something about
them, but she does not. The most uneasy factor of this short story is the fact that it is perfectly one

A National Transportation Safety Board Investigation Into...
A National Transportation Safety Board investigation into the crash, released 11 months later,
lays most of the blame for the collision on a local Norfolk Southern crew who were working the
line west of Aiken a day earlier. The crew of Train P22 told investigators they were running
behind when they reached the Avondale Mills textile plant around 6:10 p.m. the evening of
January 5. That did not give them enough time to drop off the cargo of sodium hydroxide (used
as a bleaching agent at the Avondale Mills plant) and make the planned trip down to Warrenville
without going over their work hour limit. So after finishing work at the Graniteville plant, the
crew took a taxi to a hotel for the night with the intention of returning the following morning. No
one noticed that the switch on the main line was still pointed towards the Avondale Mills spur. In
fact, the brakeman was insistent that he had moved the switch back so any later trains going
through town would still be able to go straight. 2 This is a case of pushing the limits to the edge
and missing an important detail. The work limits are put into effect to prevent just this kind of
over site of missing important details. Unfortunately this one resulted in a major accident with loss
of life. When the limits are pushed mistakes are made and the result sounds like; In my mind,

Benzophenone Lab Report
Abstract
Bromobenzene was reacted with Magnesium and anhydrous ether to create a Grignard reagent.
Benzophenone was added to the reagent in order to produce triphenylmethanol. The final product s
melting point was measured at 40.5 44В°C; too low to be triphenylmethanol. The final product was
determined to be benzophenone, indicating that no reaction occurred. Grignard reagents were likely
deactivated by water, causing the reaction to not occur.
Introduction1,2,3
This experiment was designed to work with the preparation and use of Grignard reagents1. Grignard
reagents are used in reactions to create new carbon carbon bonds between structures2. For this
experiment, the Grignard reagent used was magnesium bromide1. The magnesium bromide

case. Of course athletes are not stupid and band geeks are not all weird and smart but studies show
that there may be a correlation. A fun fact that helps prove this study is that Condoleezza Rice was

correlation may seem like a coincidence but when interviewing top professionals in industries all

Death to the Death Penalty Contrary to popular belief, the death penalty s approval ratings have

only three states administer the death penalty these days. Capital punishment has worked for a few
years to scare those who desire to commit a federal crime, but because the usage continually
diminishes (despite in a few states), why would the government keep the death penaltyif it costs
them millions per year? Cleary, the best option remains: to eliminate this form of punishment once

The Euthyphro and The Republic Essay
The Euthyphro and The Republic
I.In the Euthyphro, Euthyphro himself gives three proposals of piety. First, the pious is to
prosecute the wrongdoer and the impious is not to prosecute the wrongdoer. Socrates disputes this
example as lacking generality. He believed that in order to define piety, one had to find the form
that made all pious acts pious. An example of a pious act does not in turn define piety. Euthyphros
second attempt stated that the pious is loved by the gods, while the impious was hated by them.
Again, Socrates objects, saying that although it passed the generality requirement, there was no
conformity among the objects dear to the gods. After all, the gods had different opinions as did
humans. Euthyphro then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Quickly, Socrates asked wether it would be just to return a gun owed to a friend out of his mind,
who had originally lent the gun when he was sane. Those involved in the discussion agreed on the
need for further refinements to the original statement, but before they could continue a gentleman
by the name of Thrasymachus wanted to interject and force Socrates to give his definition of justice.
After Socrates states that he doesn t know and would like to learn, Thrasymachus then says that
justice is nothing other than the advantage of the stronger, the stronger being the established
rule. Socrates rebuttal was to say that the ruler actually rules for the benefit of his subjects, the
ones he is craftsman of. For to be a ruler is a craft and a craft was established as that which
provides what is advantageous to it s subject. Then to continue their discussion, Socrates wanted
to address Thrasymachus view of wether the life of an unjust person is better, or more profitable,
than that of a just one. Thrasymachus declared that injustice was stronger and had more power
than justice that it was better to be unjust than just. He said that to be unjust was to be clever and
good, while to be just was the opposite. They went on to debate which was clever and good and
which was bad. It was discussed that who tried to outdo whom defined the clever and good versus

Chuck Klosterman My Zombies Myself Summary
The article My Zombie, Myself: Why Modern Life Feels Rather Undead, written by Chuck
Klosterman, discusses the reasons behind zombies becoming so popular. Klosterman writes
that rise of popularity of zombies is different than that of vampires. He states that most monsters
are initially created as representations of fear. Similar to that of Frankenstein or vampires,
Klosterman explains that zombies could be viewed in the same light; however, zombies are
better explained as an allegory for our day to day existence. Rather than some innate fear,
Klosterman highlights this fact to be why zombies have risen to such high popularity.
Klosterman proposes that he knows why the interest in zombies has grown so much. He
attributes this to zombies being very easy to kill, come in large quantities, and have no depth of
character. Klosterman s explanation for such intrigue in zombies is their parallel to our day to
day existence. He relates zombies to many real life activities, like going through a weekends
worth of emails on Monday. Along with the constant saturation of news we can get from the
internet, the concept of it being easy to close, or kill, and come in large quantities are very similar
to zombies. Klosterman provides this as a better exploitation of the popularity of... Show more

prepetition of people against zombies, which while still relevant, felt out of place. This did not
make it a bad article, just something that I felt was out of

Transparency And Transparency Of Government
Transparency in Government
To address transparency issues, adequate transparency within government must be ensured; and
transparency and accountability should be promoted within democratic governance. Florida leads
the country in providing public access to government meetings and records. Florida State leaders
believe in the notion that government should be held accountable to the citizens. U.S. Supreme
Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis wrote, in his 1932 article called What Publicity Can Do that,
Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants; electric light the most efficient policeman. (Brandeis,
1914) Government transparency means placing all financial and public information online in an
easy to use, readily understandable system. A transparent system is important, because it allows
taxpayers to see clearly how public servants are spending tax money, and it also gives citizens the
ability to hold their elected officials accountable.
Transparency in government is not a new issue. John Adams, 2nd president of the United States,
wrote, Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people, who have a
right and a desire to know. (Adams, 1992) In other words, a healthy system of government is an
open government that allows all who desire to know to find the information they are seeking.
Transparency is crucial to democratic governance, because governments have access to extensive
amounts of important information. Distribution of this information

The decision in this case comes down to the distribution of power, and how that distribution of
power affects the Canadian society.
Elitism is that believe that certain people or members of certain classes or groups deserve
favoured treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority as an intellect, social status or
financial resources. C. Wright Mills explains that the power elite is composed of men whose
positions enable them to transcend the ordinary environments of ordinary men and women;
they are in positions to make decisions having major consequences. This is to mean that some
people innately have more power of persuasion then others, the actions of a small elite group are
of more importance, and have a greater affect then those of people not deemed elite. There are
several different categories of elites that have an impact on the governance of the modern state,
wealth, tradition, and authority. People from all categories have a large impact on society, and
are involved in the creation of organized governing systems. In Canada it can be seen that there
are certain individuals that have come to their position because of their social status, arguably,
Justin Trudeau is one of them. He being a grade school teacher is not the natural pick as a
candidate in upcoming national elections, yet, because of the legacy of his father, he becomes, for
many, and easy pick. This is a prime example of elitism in Canada. This however is the

Identifying The Unknown Microorganism Given By The Instructor
Unknown #2 Lab Report

Introduction
This experiment was about identifying the unknown microorganism given by the instructor. This
exercise is important to understand and apply all previous laboratory practices, as well as those
learned in our first unknown exercise, for identifying the given unknown organism. With the
knowledge and practice of performing biochemical and physiological identifying tests, I was able to
determine the unknown bacteria. For this experiment, I was given Unknown #12 and used a series
of tests to determine the specimen, further explained in this report.
Materials and Methods
For the Gram stain, I used a microscope slide, wash bottle of water, clothespin, and the reagents
crystal violet, Gram s iodine, ethyl alcohol, and safranin to observe whether the organism was
Gram negative or positve. The method was placing and heat fixing a loopful of the unknown
organism on the slide. The organisms were then stained with crystal violet for a minute, rinsed
off, flooded with iodine for a minute, rinsed off, decolorized with alcohol for 30 seconds, and
then finally stained with the counter stain, safranin, for a minute. I streaked the unknown onto a
TSA plate and incubated at 35 C. With a pure colony, we performed a second gram stain
procedure and inoculated it into a TSA slant. I used BCP Lactose broth and a loop to perform a
BCP Lactose test. The broth was inoculated with a loopful of the unknown and incubated

Darfur Conflict
I. Introduction Almost five years have passed since Darfur, the western region of Sudan, erupted
in bloody conflict. The crisis in Darfur is not an accidental disaster, or a human catastrophe that
humanitarian intervention can reverse or solve. The conflict is as not simple as presented in the
media, which casts the conflict in terms of Arabs versus black Africans. The reality is far more
muddled. It is a human tragedy, brewing for decades, that finally erupted into a vicious cycle of
violence in 2003.[1] The Darfur conflict is not only a problem for the Sudanese, but is also a
regional problem. The conflict is threatening the stability in other regions of Sudan, and in
neighboring countries like Chad, and the Central African Republic. Looking at its nature,
magnitude and internal dynamics that fuel it, one can see that, unless it is addressed soon, the
conflict has the potential to plague the whole region with a continuous cycle of violence and

records in a club, every person on the dance floor will be facing him. Just like they d face a rock
band on a stage. There s not much to see: a baseball cap maybe, a studious face leaning into a
pair of headphones, some minimal arm movements as he slides in another flawless mix.
Occasionally he might throw his hands up in excitement, smile out in response to a particularly
grand track, or share a wink with some energetic fan, and when he does, there ll be a sea of hands
aloft, a breakout of waving and grinning, an ocean of smiling dancers mirroring his every gesture.
For he is a superstar ( Brewster pg 384). Along with these tours came annual festivals. Huge
festivals every year with sometimes over a hundred thousand people in attendance. Some of these
are Love Parade and Gatecrasher( www.loveparade.com) ( www.gatecrasher.com). Just like any
music industry this one soon started having conventions. The biggest one is the Winter Music

Movie Made America Analysis
Hugo and The Artist are two films that share one pronounced quality. The ability of the two
films to be so relatable simply to attract a greater audience has proved itself to be a great way in
obtaining a greater number of interested spectators. Robert Sklar notes an enlightening topic
within his book, Movie Made America: A Cultural History of American Movies, as he states, In
motion picture comedy, a medium close to popular moods and tastes, the pendulum in the early
years of Depression and sound swung back to the rough and tumble chaos of the Keystone style,
this tie in a highly verbal form with a more pointed anti bourgeois animus (120). Note, he is
referencing the transition from silent films to talkies in this particular instance, but his point is still
valid in other cases. For... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much like today, orphaned children without any immediate relatives to turn to seem to find
themselves trouble, whether it be intentionally or unintentionally. Hugo s issues were the
unintentional ends of that spectrum, as proven through the daunting thought of being exiled to a
children s home. His responsibility prevailed as he took over his uncle s job when he went off
on a drinking binge. Hugo s real persistence was prevalent in the scene where he followed
Isabelle home in effort to get his notebook back. His unbreakable bond with his father continued
on after his death and allowed Hugo an adventure of a lifetime and the opportunity to, despite
Hugo s various internal conflicts, ultimately find a home. This sheer fact, in my opinion, inspired
the audience, giving them hope and promise for a better life. This is why I mention the excerpt
from Sklar, noting people s tastes and preferences as being essential in how they respond to a film s
message. If filmmakers do not take into account the audience they are trying to please, the film has

Humans have Engangered the Columbia River Limpet
The Columbia River Limpet, otherwise known as the Short faced Lanx, is endangered due to
human causes. This species is endangered due to population fragmentation and isolation, dam
building, and many other human causes. In addition, habitat loss is one of the biggest problems
because this organism has such specific habitat requirements. This species lives in a freshwater
ecosystem and now, large populations can only be found in 4 streams. On the other hand, these
human induced problems can be remedied with a few restrictions, support, and a little effort. The
scientific name of this organism is Fisherola Nuttalli. The Columbia RiverLimpet is a small lunged
(pulmonate) snail. According to an article by Celeste Mazzacano at the Xerces Society for
Invertebrate Conservation (http://www.xerces.org/giant columbia river limpet/), It has a limpet
like appearance, with an uncoiled conical shell that has a wide base and a smooth, eccentric (off
center) apex. The shells may reach up to 8 mm long, 6.25 mm wide, and 3 mm high; they are
rich brown in color and appear striped due to fine concentric growth rings (Neitzel Frest 1992).
This organism is known as an invertebrate due to the lack of a backbone. Invertebrates lack a
vertebral column, which is made up of bones called vertebrae. The scientific name for animals
lacking a backbone is Invertebrata. On the other hand, animals with a backbone are known as
vertebrates, the scientific name being Vertebrata. There are over 1

Reach Customers Easy and Fast with Business Texting
According to Forbes Magazine, mobile marketing is the future of customer communication.
Forbes cites that over 80 percent of adults own a phone and over 90 percent of adults keep their
phone within arm s reach. In fact, over half of mobile searches lead to a sale. Therefore, business
texting is essential to business success. Here are three reasons why business texting is critical to
your marketing plan. http://www.forbes.com/sites/cherylsnappconner/2013/11/12/fifty essential
mobile marketing facts/ Business Texting is Optional
Mass marketing relies on the principles of saturating a target demographic or random members of
the public with advertising. However, business texting is an opt in service. That is, consumers
voluntarily provide their phone number and are free to opt out at any time. Therefore, the target
audience will be consumers who are already familiar with the product or service. As a result, you
can reduce wasted marketing costs while accurately reaching your target market. Keep in mind that
business texting will always rely on traditional advertising forms to establish and maintain and
customer texting database.

When it comes to email, consumers are tired of dealing with spam and banner ads. Since texting
spam is still in the infancy stage, phone users aren t as jaded as they are compared with traditional
email. In addition to this, text messages are quicker, shorter and easier to read. Keep in mind that
25 percent of adults only have a smartphone to access the Internet. Therefore, the conversion
process and rates for a business text is much higher. Business texting is also an excellent opportunity
to directly engage consumers in conversation while improving the Customer Relationship

cousin Duncan whom was king at the time. Duncan trusted him tremendously due to him being

How Did The Goths Lead To The Fall Of The Roman Empire
The Roman Empire was one of the biggest and most influential empires in history. At its height it
looked like they would never be defeated but in the late 5th century they were. The Roman Empire
was formed and remembered by its incredible military prowess, but that military strength failed the
empire and lead to the fall of the Empire. Military defeats led to the fall of the Western Roman
Empire. The Goths came into the Empire in 376 and never left, ravaging the empire for years and
eventually sacking Rome in 410. By ravaging and sacking the empire they Goths gained
confidence and better equipment to continue to fight. The Vandals raided North Africa and stole a

Alans crossed the Rhine into Roman Empire. Alaric invaded Italy again in 407 and this time
Stilicho paid him 4,000 pounds in gold to leave. By paying off the Goths this made Stilicho an
enemy in the eyes of the some officials and eventually Stilicho was executed which left the West
Empire without a strong general. Eventually this led to the sack of Rome in 410. While Rome
wasn t politically important anymore it was the most symbolic city in the world at the time. People
were Roman citizens not Milanian citizens. Sacking Rome sent an enormous message not only to
the Emperor but to the other German tribes that if we can sack Rome, then anybody can sack

The Impact Of Fashion On Consumer s Choices Of Many...
Abstract The finest supply chains aren t just swift and cost effective, they are also agile and
flexible and they ensure that all their companies interests stay aligned. Hall L Lee
The turbulent and highly unpredictable market in the fashion industry creates hasty changes in
consumer demands. Many products and services are assumed to have life cycle, perhaps none have
more diverse cycles than Fashion. Fashions are, by definition, temporary cyclical phenomena
adopted by consumers for a particular time and situation. The phenomenon of fashion invades
consumer s choices of many products and services. The triumph of fast fashion to a great extent

As cost is the most significant factor to be taken into thought in the production process many
companies take advantage of offshore outsourcing by collaboration or manufacture their products
overseas to get a lower price (Matilla, 2002).
Fast Fashion industry is perhaps one of the most demanding challenges for industrial logistic
management. According to (Christopher, 2004) there is an increasing propensity to get products
and materials from other countries. This global outsourcing may consequence in longer lead times
despite the low labour cost. Keeping track of this enormously fast and cut throat world of fashion
industry has never been trouble free.
Background
The Factors of Fashion Markets
Following are the characteristics of fashion industry
1. Short life cycle: The product generally has a short life expectancy. It is designed to capture the
mood of the moment during the season sales.
2. High volatility: Consumer demand is known as barely ever steady or straight and possibly
influenced by constantly changing factors such as weather, films, pop stars, or well known sports
stars.
3. Low predictability: Due to the high level of volatility and the unstable nature of fashion goods,
it is enormously difficult to predict the total demand perfectly correctly by itself on a week by
week or item by item basis.
4. High Impulse purchase: Many buying decisions by consumers for these products are made at the
point of

The costumes fans wear are usually self made, though in some cases they are purchased from shops. Nicolle Lamerichs, a cosplayer says that the community is crucial here to the development of costuming skills. The process of sewing the costume and guaranteeing its authenticity is therefore very important. The major reason is that cosplay is very time consuming and/or costs a lot of money. Teenagers tend to spend most of their precious time to make their costumes if they can t afford the money to buy the costumes. Based on a survey done by Robin S. Rosenberg and Andrea M. Letamendi, The total time spent preparing costumes varied between 1 to 450 hours. The average time spent preparing a costume was 44.16 hours. She is a year behind her peers, particularly in her English class and her teachers have slowly begun to reduce their expectations of her. Her parents are worried because her confidence for learning is decreasing, and there is less motivation for her to do homework and class assignments. A psychologist found that her intelligence is in the gifted range, but she has difficulty in making out written symbols. Learning Disabilities generally is viewed as a category in federal legislation referring to disorders involved in understanding or using language, manifested in imperfect ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell, or do mathematical calculations (EBSCO, 2005, p.1). Students with learning disabilities have average or above average intelligence but suffer from impaired brain functions or also known as neurological handicaps. This impairment makes it difficult for them to acquire skills and knowledge accurately and fast enough to keep pace with average academic progress. Once believed to be rare, learning disabilities are now believed to affect approximately 5 percent of the population (Encarta, 2003, p.1); many experts believe the percentage to be actually higher. Learning disabilities do not refer to a single disorder, but to a wider range of problems, which can include language, memory, attention, and organization; that can affect any area of academic performance. • 5. The Fall Of The House Of Usher Effect Edgar Allan Poe once said that the artistry of narratives is in the ability to achieve a unity of effect (Clement, lecture notes). In his narrative The Fall of the House of Usher, a man gets a letter from an old friend who wants him to go to his family estate because he is sick. When he arrives, he notices that his friend and his sister are not the only ones affected by illness. It is obvious that the house is too. The illness leads to the death of the Ushers and also the destruction of the house. In The Fall of the House of Usher, Poe makes death and decay, as well as overall illness, his unity of effect. He creates this effect by using the different features of narratives. He establishes this effect through his narrator, the setting of the story, and the events that affect the characters. In this short narrative, there are many textual examples that enforce the effect of death, decay, and illness. In the succeeding paragraphs, I will be analyzing the style, setting, narrator, characters, and conflict of this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the early time periods where oral narratives were the only form of story, narratives existed to teach a lesson or to illustrate a moral. In the medieval period, narratives were for entertainment. It wasn t until the nineteenth century that tales became about truth. Narratives like The Fall of the House of Usher aren t about teaching or entertaining. These narratives are about the message or experience that is being created through writing. They are about presenting readers with an effect that is made to be felt and thought about. In The Fall of the House of Usher readers are left with the feeling of death, decay, and illness because of Poe s use of language, story world, narrator, characters, and conflict. While in the present day, there is nothing that extreme, the government keeps an eye on everything that is done. Many things are similar such as video surveillance, and communication. These two concepts play huge roles in both the fictional world of 1984 and the present day. Video surveillance is highly prevalent in the world of 1984. Differential Association Theory Differential association theory was Sutherland s major sociological contribution to criminology; similar in importance to strain theory and social control theory. These theories all explain deviance in terms of the individual s social relationships. Sutherland s theory departs from the pathological perspective and biological perspective by attributing the cause of crime to the social context of individuals. He rejected biological determinism and the extreme individualism of psychiatry, as well as economic explanations of crime. A person who is seduced, for instance, learns criminal behavior by association, but this would not be ordinarily described as imitation. 9. While criminal behavior is an expression of general needs and values, it is not explained by those general needs and values since non criminal behavior is an expression of the same needs and values. Thieves generally steal in order to secure money, but likewise honest laborers work in order to money. The attempts to explain criminal behavior by general drives and values such as the money motive have been, and must completely to be, futile, since they explain lawful behavior as completely as they explain criminal behavior. They are similar to respiration, which is necessary for any behavior, but which does not differentiate criminal from noncriminal behavior. (Sutherland, 1974: 75 76) In summary, he believed that an individual s associations are determined in a general context of social organization (for instance, family income as a factor of determining residence of family and in many cases, delinquency rate is largely related to the rental value of houses) and thus differential group organization as an explanation of various crime rates is consistent with the differential association theory. • 13. Theme Of Social Class In The Outsiders In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, there are many important themes, including recognizing the importance of family, understanding how social class can mold who you are as a person, and facing challenges. The main characters in the novel faced challenges due to their circumstances and social class. Through these challenges, they learned the importance of family and friends and had to make mature decisions. By the end of the novel, Ponyboy especially, had grown up staggeringly. Although Ponyboy has dealt with problems in his family and because of his low social class he matured throughout the novel. The main theme of The Outsiders centers around the importance of family. Ponyboy and his brothers made sacrifices for their family. Darry, the eldest brother, had a chance to go to college and be successful, but he chose to take care of his two brothers, Ponyboy and Sodapop. Family doesn t have to be blood. Johnny s parents abused him, so he felt like the Greasers were more of family to him than his parents. The Greasers supported, protected, and looked out for Johnny. The Socs, who are the Greasers biggest enemies, turned to their gang for family too because the parents of the Socs only gave their children money and didn t take care of them. Society and class was another big theme in The Outsiders. Ponyboy was born into a low social class. His parents died, so he had to rely on his brothers and the Greasers. They were poor and had to work to get basic needs like food and water. Since the Greasers had a low social class they were looked down upon as trouble makers even when they were being helpful. When Ponyboy and Johnny saved children out of a burning church, it was written in the paper that juvenile delinquents had turned heros. The Socs on the other hand had money. They fancy cars like Mustangs and Corvairs and wore nice clothes. They were considered heroes even though they didn t do anything heroic. They caused trouble in the neighborhood by throwing beer blasts and jumping Greasers. Society overlooked character due to social class. Social classes limit people too. Darry, a Greaser and Paul, a Soc had the same qualities to be successful and go to college. Darry however, was held back because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Characterization in Sister Carrie Essay Characterization in Sister Carrie The theme of unrequited love and unfulfilled ambitions, against a backdrop of a nation being transformed by industrialism and capitalism, provides the substance of Theodore Dreiser s Sister Carrie. During the late 19th Century we encounter three main characters who demonstrate this underlying motif: Carrie Meeber, Charles H. Drouet, and George W. Hurstwood. Carrie will fulfill many of her desires for riches and success, but her insatiable appetite will leave her feeling dissatisfied at the end of the novel and all alone. With respect to the two men who most covet her affections, Charles Drouet and George Hurstwood we have a study in contrasts. About the only thing Drouet and Hurstwood have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Eby (2) notes, Carrie is not one to submit to a solemn round of industry while postponing gratification. Appropriately, Carrie s first lover is a drummer or traveling salesman who goes on the road to market his company s wares. Neither Carrie nor Drouet produce anything. Carrie uses her natural beauty and charms to consume the goods Drouet s money provides, but Drouet only makes his money from moving goods not producing them. As much as neither Carrie nor Drouet produce anything tangible, they are both necessary kinds of people in the new industrial nation. Eby (2) confirms this reasoning, Drouet produces nothing tangible to sell, but the efforts of thousands like him kept goods moving to their ultimate destination, consumers. Potential buyers like Carrie with easily manipulible desires are also essential: without desire, the consumer economy stalls. Drouet is written like a character who might become someone like Willy Loman should he ever settle down and marry and raise children. This is because he is young and good looking and can use his charms to woo consumers to purchase his products. Nevertheless, Drouet does not accept the realities of his situation. Like his clothes and manners, if he does not like reality he tries to modify it through a variety of means, from running away and denial to the pursuit of superficial pleasures as a means of escape. ... The Importance Of Natural Resources In today s fast pace society, we often do not pay much attention to the amount of natural resources we are consuming, and the limited supply of these resources that we will have in the future. The depletion of natural resources is the consumption of a resource faster than it can be replenished. All humanbeings depend on these natural resources for our basic needs. People often take for granted the abundance of natural resources we have as of now, and use them at an unsustainable rate, putting many of these resources on the verge of becoming depleted. It is reported that humans are using 30% more resources than the Earth can replenish each year, thus leading to deforestation, degraded soils and land, and polluted air and water. Our current world populationis 7.2 billion and growing at a rapid rate of about 1.14% per year, however the earth s natural resources are only sustainable for 2 billion at the current demand. As populations grow, consumption increases at a faster rate than technology can find new ways to produce natural resources, and the problem gradually gets worse. At the way humans are living, we are using 2 3 times more of the earth s natural resources than what is sustainable. Our ecological footprint is 1 ВЅ times the earth s ability to provide the resources needed to meet this level of consumption. When humans need employment, food, or ways to raise their standard of living, they often look to practices such as deforestation and burning of fossil fuels as easy ... The three conceived the company, Apple Computer Inc, on April 1, 1976, in Job s parent s garage and from then on they would create a technological cultural phenomenon. Fast forward to January 9, 2007, and the first generation iPhonewas released which revolutionized the smartphone as we know it today as it was the first smartphone to feature an adaptive touch screen display. The first generation iPhone had a 3.5 inch screen, was encased in metal and featured the trademark home button found on the bottom of the display. The first generation iPhone also featured an impressive 2 megapixel camera, had a 320x480 pixel display, 128 MB of RAM, 4 GB of internal storage, iOS version 3.0, and was Wi Fi capable. Not to mention, also connected to the iTunes Store, web browsing via Safari, email capabilities, and even included Google Maps (Kerris Apple Reinvents ). However, by today s standard the first generation iPhone is hardly impressive, but in 2007 the iPhone was something to get excited about, as it was the only phone at the time to have a touch screen display compared to the sea of plastic sliding phones such as the Nokia N95, flip phones such as the RAZR, and Blackberry s (Segan). • 21. Glossophobia Is The Fear Of Public Speaking Importance of Communication Glossophobia is the fear of public speaking. The average person ranks the fear of public speaking higher than the fear of death. According to the National Institute of Mental Health over 74% of people suffer from speech anxiety (Brain, 2016) . This is a sad statistic being that communication is the backbone of our society. It is what allows us to connect with others. Without communication skills, we would not be able to form relationships, whether in our personal or professional lives. We, as a society, tend to think that communication is only verbal. However, communication includes nonverbal, written, even listening, as well as our body language. In fact, over 70% of our communication is nonverbal. In this class I hope to improve on my interpersonal communication by learning ways to overcome my fear and setting new standards in the way I communicate with others. In my personal life, improper communication has led to more than one situation that caused hurt to someone I love. Likewise, I have been on the receiving end of hurt directly as a result of poor communication. Currently, if I were to rank my comfortability in speaking in front of the class, I would say it would be a 4 out of 10. I know many people would think it would be higher, but the fact of the matter is I have an anxiety when it comes to public speaking. Being an extroverted personality often leads people to believe I would have no problem speaking in public, but when the spotlight is on, it is an entirely different story. The moment I know I must get up in front of a group of people, I start to feel dread, my stomach goes into knots, my heart starts to race, and my palms get clammy. I always try to be the first speaker so that these feelings of dread can disappear sooner than later. Ironically, after I finish speaking (assuming it went well) I feel a sense of accomplishment. There is a remarkable sense of pride that comes with effectively communicating to your peers and being well received. My hope is that by taking this Communication 100, I will find new ways to effectively communicate, which will not only help me grow as a person, but will further my success in the competitive job market. A National Transportation Safety Board investigation into the crash, released 11 months later, lays most of the blame for the collision on a local Norfolk Southern crew who were working the line west of Aiken a day earlier. The crew of Train P22 told investigators they were running behind when they reached the Avondale Mills textile plant around 6:10 p.m. the evening of January 5. That did not give them enough time to drop off the cargo of sodium hydroxide (used as a bleaching agent at the Avondale Mills plant) and make the planned trip down to Warrenville without going over their work hour limit. So after finishing work at the Graniteville plant, the crew took a taxi to a hotel for the night with the intention of returning the following morning. No one noticed that the switch on the main line was still pointed towards the Avondale Mills spur. In fact, the brakeman was insistent that he had moved the switch back so any later trains going through town would still be able to go straight. 2 This is a case of pushing the limits to the edge and missing an important detail. First, the pious is to prosecute the wrongdoer and the impious is not to prosecute the wrongdoer. Socrates disputes this example as lacking generality. He believed that in order to define piety, one had to find the form that made all pious acts pious. An example of a pious act does not in turn define piety. Euthyphros second attempt stated that the pious is loved by the gods, while the impious was hated by them. Again, Socrates objects, saying that although it passed the generality requirement, there was no conformity among the objects dear to the gods. After all, the gods had different opinions as did humans. Euthyphro then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After Socrates states that he doesn t know and would like to learn, Thrasymachus then says that justice is nothing other than the advantage of the stronger, the stronger being the established rule. Socrates rebuttal was to say that the ruler actually rules for the benefit of his subjects, the ones he is craftsman of. For to be a ruler is a craft and a craft was established as that which provides what is advantageous to it s subject. Then to continue their discussion, Socrates wanted to address Thrasymachus view of wether the life of an unjust person is better, or more profitable, than that of a just one. Thrasymachus declared that injustice was stronger and had more power than justice that it was better to be unjust than just. Chuck Klosterman My Zombies Myself Summary The article My Zombie, Myself: Why Modern Life Feels Rather Undead, written by Chuck Klosterman, discusses the reasons behind zombies becoming so popular. Klosterman writes that rise of popularity of zombies is different than that of vampires. He states that most monsters are initially created as representations of fear. Similar to that of Frankenstein or vampires, Klosterman explains that zombies could be viewed in the same light; however, zombies are better explained as an allegory for our day to day existence. Rather than some innate fear, Klosterman highlights this fact to be why zombies have risen to such high popularity. Klosterman proposes that he knows why the interest in zombies has grown so much. He attributes this to zombies being very easy to kill, come in large quantities, and have no depth of character. Klosterman s explanation for such intrigue in zombies is their parallel to our day to day existence. He relates zombies to many real life activities, like going through a weekends worth of emails on Monday. This exercise is important to understand and apply all previous laboratory practices, as well as those learned in our first unknown exercise, for identifying the given unknown organism. With the knowledge and practice of performing biochemical and physiological identifying tests, I was able to determine the unknown bacteria. For this experiment, I was given Unknown #12 and used a series of tests to determine the specimen, further explained in this report. Materials and Methods For the Gram stain, I used a microscope slide, wash bottle of water, clothespin, and the reagents crystal violet, Gram s iodine, ethyl alcohol, and safranin to observe whether the organism was Gram negative or positve. The method was placing and heat fixing a loopful of the unknown organism on the slide. The organisms were then stained with crystal violet for a minute, rinsed off, flooded with iodine for a minute, rinsed off, decolorized with alcohol for 30 seconds, and then finally stained with the counter stain, safranin, for a minute. I streaked the unknown onto a TSA plate and incubated at 35 C. With a pure colony, we performed a second gram stain procedure and inoculated it into a TSA slant. The conflict is as not simple as presented in the media, which casts the conflict in terms of Arabs versus black Africans. The reality is far more muddled. It is a human tragedy, brewing for decades, that finally erupted into a vicious cycle of violence in 2003.[1] The Darfur conflict is not only a problem for the Sudanese, but is also a regional problem. The conflict is threatening the stability in other regions of Sudan, and in neighboring countries like Chad, and the Central African Republic. Looking at its nature, magnitude and internal dynamics that fuel it, one can see that, unless it is addressed soon, the conflict has the potential to plague the whole region with a continuous cycle of violence and lawlessness.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, regional and international actors have carried out several peace initiatives to end the violence. The peace efforts that constitute the Darfur peace process include the N Djamena peace negotiations of September 2003 and April 2004,[2] The Addis Ababa peace negotiations of May 2004,[3] the Abuja peace negotiations of August 2004 May 2006,[4] and the Sirte peace negotiations of October 2007.[5] These peace initiatives have not made substantial progress towards sustainable peace. Since the peace efforts began in 2003, every peace effort has been followed by increased violence, and ultimately, the peace process has failed. Therefore, the key research question that this paper sets out to answer is: Why did the Darfur Peace Process ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A music fueled by throbbing beats over rattling bass. This is electronic music. The mastermind behind this whole up and coming culture was and is the DJ. As one century tipped into another, dance music was still a primary source of interest and creativity as Trance, a futuristic blend of technology and House and Techno, became a chart topping, globe girdling sensation ( Prendergast pg 367). Another great more specific example of this is Paul Oakenfold as written in Last night a DJ saved my life, When Paul Oakenfold plays records in a club, every person on the dance floor will be facing him. Just like they d face a rock band on a stage. There s not much to see: a baseball cap maybe, a studious face leaning into a pair of headphones, some minimal arm movements as he slides in another flawless mix. Occasionally he might throw his hands up in excitement, smile out in response to a particularly grand track, or share a wink with some energetic fan, and when he does, there ll be a sea of hands aloft, a breakout of waving and grinning, an ocean of smiling dancers mirroring his every gesture. For he is a superstar ( Brewster pg 384). Along with these tours came annual festivals. Huge festivals every year with sometimes over a hundred thousand people in attendance. • 41. Movie Made America Analysis Hugo and The Artist are two films that share one pronounced quality. The ability of the two films to be so relatable simply to attract a greater audience has proved itself to be a great way in obtaining a greater number of interested spectators. Robert Sklar notes an enlightening topic within his book, Movie Made America: A Cultural History of American Movies, as he states, In motion picture comedy, a medium close to popular moods and tastes, the pendulum in the early years of Depression and sound swung back to the rough and tumble chaos of the Keystone style, this tie in a highly verbal form with a more pointed anti bourgeois animus (120). Note, he is referencing the transition from silent films to talkies in this particular instance, but his point is still valid in other cases. For... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much like today, orphaned children without any immediate relatives to turn to seem to find themselves trouble, whether it be intentionally or unintentionally. Hugo s issues were the unintentional ends of that spectrum, as proven through the daunting thought of being exiled to a children s home. His responsibility prevailed as he took over his uncle s job when he went off on a drinking binge. Hugo s real persistence was prevalent in the scene where he followed Isabelle home in effort to get his notebook back. His unbreakable bond with his father continued on after his death and allowed Hugo an adventure of a lifetime and the opportunity to, despite Hugo s various internal conflicts, ultimately find a home. This sheer fact, in my opinion, inspired the audience, giving them hope and promise for a better life. This is why I mention the excerpt from Sklar, noting people s tastes and preferences as being essential in how they respond to a film s message. If filmmakers do not take into account the audience they are trying to please, the film has little to no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This species is endangered due to population fragmentation and isolation, dam building, and many other human causes. In addition, habitat loss is one of the biggest problems because this organism has such specific habitat requirements. This species lives in a freshwater ecosystem and now, large populations can only be found in 4 streams. On the other hand, these human induced problems can be remedied with a few restrictions, support, and a little effort. The scientific name of this organism is Fisherola Nuttalli.
