Analysis Of Frances Burney s The Perfect Definition Of...
Frances Burney was born in a time where women were treated differently from men and expected to
marry as soon as possible. Evelina, a book published in 1778, portrays a character with the same name
who experiences stages in her life before finally becoming a lady in personality and title. In Evelina,
Burney presents the treatment of different women within a male dominated society.
The ideal woman was often presented as a delicate object that depended on a man. In the novel, the
perfect definition of a lady by the standards of that time is none other than Lord Orville s younger
sister Lady Louisa. When Lady Louisa is seen at Mrs. Beaumont s home, Evelina notices that she is
wobbling rather walking into a room and that her voice [spoke] so softly she could hardly be heard .
This demonstrates her extreme femininity for being very weak and fragile to the point that she is
quickly fatigued to death (410). Moreover, another example was Mrs. Mirvan in the first volume who
was a kind and sweet tempered woman (132). Like a true lady of that time, she was highly dependent
on a man and so she was often charged to healing those wounds which her husband s inflicts (150).
Yet, Lady Louisa still remains as the main example of a real lady due to her behavior. She was easily
tired, enjoyed having the attention on her and associated herself solely with those who were of her
class. Sir Clement Willoughby also presents his own impression of her Ladyship: she is a mere
compound of

Paleolithic And Neolithic Research Paper
The characteristic phases of development of pre historical humanity are the Paleolithic and Neolithic
eras. The Paleolithic era is called the Old Stone Age, and the Neolithic era is called the New Stone
Age. Pre History is the time before history where people had not developed the use of writing nor
cities. The societies of the Stone Age started to emerge as early hominids made most of their tools out
of stone , and because of their use of stone they are said to belong to the Stone Age, the Paleolithic and
Neolithic eras (Cole and Symes 4). The Paleolithic era is labeled as the development of tools and a
hunting and gathering period. The hominids in Africa started to make tools with stone and fire. Later,
about 200,000 years ago, the Neanderthals

A Research Study On Mutual Fund Essay
1.0 CHAPTER ONE
1.1 Introduction
A mutual fund and also known as unit trust can be defined as a form of collective investments that
allows the investors which have similar investment objectives to pool their funds to be invested in a
portfolio of securities or other assets. The fund managers will invest the pooled funds in the portfolio
fund, particularly include some assets like cash, bonds, deposits, stocks, commodities and also
properties parallel to the fund s objectives. Each investor owns shares, which represent a portion of the
holdings of the fund.
The mutual fund industry in Malaysia started as far back as 1959 with the advent of the Malayan Unit
Trust Limited, which was launched by a group of Australian investors. The development of the
industry did not take off until the 1980s after the launch of Amanah Saham Nasional (Barom, 2004).
The Amanah Saham Nasional was initiated by the Malaysian Government to promote equity
ownership by the indigenous population. Aided by high and consistent economic growth since the
1990s, the mutual fund industry had grown exponentially until 1997, in which the East Asian financial
crisis (EAF) of 1997 brought a sudden halt to such a rapid development. After the EAF, the Malaysian
mutual fund trust industry has experienced a solid recovery. This can be reflected in the number of
management companies that steadily increased from 13 in the mid 1990s to 37 in the early 2000s
(Saad et al., 2010).
In line with the rapid growth of the

Morality In Jack London s The Call Of The Wild
Jack London, in his book The call of the wild , portrays, that the strongest, smartest, and the one who
is not shy of compromising their morals in the wilderness, will always prosper. In this novel, Buck, the
protagonist, a Saint Bernard/ scotch shepherd mix, is taken from his home in California, and becomes
a sled dog , and eventually the lead sled dog, in Alaska. Buck is constantly learning about life in the
wild, about the law of club and fang, and how the man with the club is the top, and you do not fight
that. He also learns that the strong survive well when he kills Spitz. In the book, Buck always ate slow
and deliberately, but seeing another dog steal food, to get more, and being fed much less than he is
used to, he adapts this practice, against his own morals, and steals food. Later in the book, London
says that buck was now wise in the way of the club . This shows: In the call of the wild, buck learns
that only the strong and smart survive in the wild, and that unfortunately, to survive, sometimes, moral
integrity is compromised.
Midst this novel, the smart are the strong. During Buck s fight with the former lead dog; Spitz was
untouched, while Buck was streaming with blood and panting. It seems as if the battle will be soon be
over, due to the fact that: The fighting was getting desperate ... As buck grew winded, Spitz took to
rushing, and he kept him staggering for footing. Buck then realizes that his size, though larger than
Spitz, was no match for the

Causes Of The African Water Crisis
The average American uses about 176 gallons of water in one single day, while in Africa, 660 million
people see just one sip as a luxury, states Kristen Lewis in the article entitled THIRST for the 2016
Scholastic Scope. Without water, people cannot carry out daily activities and struggle to survive. The
water crisis in Africa is an expanding problem in our world that continues to affect millions of people
each day; fortunately, this crisis has caught the attention of The Water Project, a nonprofit organization
in the United States that raises money to solve water crises around the world. The Africa water crisis
has come about due to several factors that create negative outcomes for the citizens of Africa, but The
Water Project is doing all they can to resolve these issues. There are a variety of causes held
responsible for the water crisis in Africa. These causes have been taken from African s control and
desperately need to be solved. Climate change is one of the countless reasons that there is a high
demand for water in Africa. An article entitled Africa s Water Crisis Deepens written for the 2006
News Scientist, states that Drought, famine and spreading deserts have plagued Africa for the past 30
years. With the expansion of desertification, the process in which land becomes increasingly dry with
little to no water resources, areas of land have dried out and are useless to humans due to the lack of
rainfall on the African continent over the past several years.

The Human Impact On Natural Environment
The human impact on natural environment is one of the most pressing issues of contemporary times
and a subject of discussion. The increasing human population and the rising level of technology both
have become significant factors in raising the environmental problems. There are several
environmental problems around the world today which occurred due to both natural and human
causes. Of all the global environmental problems, desertification is, perhaps, the most threatening
problem. Desertification is the expansion of desert lands into previously non desert areas. Today in
many countries lands are becoming into deserts, and due to the conditions in the world soon we will
not be able to take it back. There are two main causes of desertification, one is human activities and the
other is climatic variations. The first and the most important cause of desertification is human
activities. Human causes includes Overgrazing, Over cultivation, Mismanagement of irrigation,
Deforestation, Urban and industrial activities, mining and exploitation of resources etc. All human
causes are related to over population. Due to overpopulation there is great pressure on land and
resources. According to Neo Malthusian, demographic pressure leads to overuse and misuse of
resources (Malthus, 1798). Earlier desertification was only a natural formation but day by day humans
are becoming responsible for it because of land mismanagements. One theory argues that resources

The Pros And Cons Of Apollo Missions
Apollo Missions Reap Future Rewards for World Space travel and exploration have always fascinated
mankind. Humans have imagined travelling to space, the moon, and beyond, since first gazing through
a telescope, seeing the stars and planets. Early in our history, it was beyond belief that a human may
actually someday travel through space or walk on another planet. Yet, we dared to dream and

The History Of Dmd Stemmed From The Progressive Muscular...
The coexistence of the uncommon disease known as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy or DMD, has
come to the attention of many and has manifested within this document to generalize the history,
impact, and significance of the disease. The history of DMD stemmed from the progressive muscular
dystrophy of two 10 year old boys names Conte and Gonji in 1836. Since this becoming the first
historical account of such a disease, many doctors and specialists speculated a more catastrophic form
of tuberculosis; when revisited by scientists it was concluded that they suffered from the milder
Becker MD. In 1852, Meryon reported in striking points of interest a family with four young men,

As shown in Figure 1, this presents the most common scenario that is passed down to children since
most people with the disease do not have a long enough life expectancy, and most females who get
both affected X chromosomes by a carrier mother and affected father is very unlikely. The chart
explains how the males who receive the disease get it from a carrier mother who is unaffected by the
disease as the one affected X chromosome is masked by unaffected X chromosome; a task that the Y
chromosome cannot achieve, thus making the male population inclined to receive it more likely than
females. Figure 1 illustrates a more detailed Punnett Square depicts the common scenario. Duchenne
Muscular Dystrophy is caused by a mutation of the dystrophin gene at locus Xp21, located on the
short arm of the X chromosome. The DMD disease occurs primarily from frameshift mutations in the
dystrophin gene. Just short of 70% of cases of DMD occur from deletion of the dystrophin gene, 10%
of cases occur from the harmful addition of the gene. The remaining cases (that have medically been
recorded), have occurred because of disastrous point mutations that change in the DNA sequence.

associates the cytoskeleton of a muscle fiber to the encompassing extracellular grid through

Essay about The Theme of Coming of Age in Literature
The Theme of Coming of Age in Literature
There comes a time is each person s life when they reach the point where they are no longer children,
but adults. The transition from a child into a young adult is often referred to as the coming of age, or
growing up. The time when this transition occurs is different in everyone, since everyone is an
individual and no two people are alike. Certain children reach this stage through a tragic, painful event
which affects them to such extent that they are completely changed. Other children reach this time by
simply growing older and having a better understanding of the world around them. The coming of age
really is indefinite and cannot be marked in general overview. This stage in
life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to the different ways that culture celebrates the coming of age it is also one of the worlds
most popular and beloved themes in literature.
The Circus is a touching story about a man s kindness and how the realization of this played an
important part of his son s coming age. In Dan Clark s The
Circus , it is obvious how this young man realizes what being kind really means. Clark states that We
didn t go to the Circus that night but we didn t go without. (1995, pg. 4) quote demonstrates that the
young man realizes that it is more important to be generous than it was to go to the circus. This was
the first step of this young man s transition into the adult life. More often than not, the plot, characters,
theme and conflicts in literature deal with the theme coming of age, are very realistic.
Yet another story is Gary Paulsen s Hatchet which is a story about one boy who must survive in the
wilderness, with only a hatchet as a weapon. This is a story of courage about how one child was
forced to transform into an adult in order to endure the circumstances surrounding him. Brian Robeson
was stranded on an island, after his plane crashed down while traveling to see his father. He had no
food, now way of communication and only a small hatchet to save his life. Through terrifying events,
Hatchet is the story of one man s struggle to survive. It is obvious how Brian Robeson was forced to

Waw Wolf Short Story
Post The boy who cried wolf
In the end the townsfolk never did find the rest of that boy s sheep herd. As a week went by the
weeping went with it also, As the boy ever so slowly got over the sheep of his lost herd. He decided to
change to not become a liar but, to become a hero and to get revenge upon that wolf. The townsfolk
were glad that he had stopped being the Boy who cried wolf but, now they were more worried about
him than the sheep. He seemed angry as the wolf had ruined his herd. So they decided to confront him
about this and they asked Are you ok boy do you need help. The boy only smiled and said, No need
there will not be any need for help. The boy then walked off and left the village. The boy had already
found out where the wolf went. This was because he followed the wolf s trail which ended at a
immense gap in a mountain that looked like it stretched beyond the sky.
This cave was covered in wolf tracks from all directions. The cave seemed as if it was once a large
den of wolves. It entrance was like a mouth that swallowed up everything that went in.
The boy then took the first step in. As he treaded along this unfamiliar landscape he felt very anxious.
Tons of questions zoomed through his mind.
What will I do to the wolf? Is the wolf even here? WILL I DIE? This startled the boy. He did not want
to die when he had so much to live for.

Roof Replacement
Determining whether or not a home needs a new roof is not difficult. Homeowners simply have to
look for clues that alert them to issues. When it comes to Roof Replacement Ft Worth residents just
have to look for these clues, call in a professional company such as Greystone Roofing to check out
the roof. They can inspect the roof to see if an entire roof is needed, or if the roof that s on the roof can
be repaired.
Repair or replace
If a few shingles have blown off during a storm, or if there s a small leak in one area, replacing is an
economical option. It also makes the most sense. After all, why incur the expense of installing a new
roof if there are only a couple of shingles that need to be replaced.
In some cases one section of a roof may be damaged. Perhaps, a tree limb has fallen on an area of the
roof which resulted in damage to 1/4 of the roof. This is another time when repairing may be the more
favorable option. However, if the roof is older and will need replacing soon many homeowners opt for

Boys Antisocial Behavior Essay
Boys Antisocial Behavior
In almost any college class you walk into you will find that there are more female students than male.
This wasn t the case years ago. David Thomas article The Mind of Man points out that women are
progressing readily in today s society, but where are the men?
Years ago men were the only ones permitted into colleges. But as time went by people s ways of
thinking changed dramatically. People began to realize that girls were not getting the education boys
were, and things had to be changed. I think of this change, that society made, as a pendulum. Years
ago, the pendulum hung to one side. The side of boys education. This side completely dismissed girls
education. Society wanted to fix this wrong by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Today s society is vastly different from that of years past. Years ago, elementary teachers, along with
everybody else in society, put more emphasis on boys education. This is understandable if we recall
that at that time men were the ones who were working and running the show, while the womans job
was to stay home and tend to the children. At that time boys were treated fairly in the school system.
The boys behaved rowdy and aggressive as boys do, but the teachers accepted it, to an extent, because
they understood that boys will be boys and that this was their natural behavior. The boys would
outgrow their anti social behavior in due time. Unfortunately this isn t the case in today s society. The
society of today rewards feminine behavior and frowns upon what is considered masculine behavior.
Many female teachers, having been influenced by society, unconsciously frown upon the behavior of
their male students constantly. Thomas says that there is a direct response between a child s academic
achievement and a favorable response from the teacher . (122) If this is true, which I believe it is, what
messages are teachers giving to boys when their behavior is constantly being criticized.
Today s society does not know how to tolerate kids behaviors. For some reason we expect all boys and

Jesse Owens s Journey To The 1936 Berlin Olympics
We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of
determination, dedication, self discipline, and effort. This quote by Jesse Owens shows that nothing is
impossible. Jesse Owens bravery and courage to go to the 1936 Berlin Olympics led to less racial
discrimination in sports, more blacks competing in athletics, and to more respect for black people.
Back in this time, there weren t many black people competing in sports. This was because racial
tension in America was at a high and many black people didn t want to deal with it. But, then came
Jesse Owens. He didn t come from a fortunate family so he had to work for everything that he got. He
went to school through college and made it to the Olympics despite racism, all due to his
determination, dedication, self discipline, and effort.
Jesse Owens was born on September 12, 1913 in Oakville, AL. Jesse was born into poverty and had a
very rough childhood. Being the grandson of former slaves and the son of a sharecropper, he was
often working on the family farm whenever he could, but he was unable to work most of the time

Lao Tzu Thoughts From The Tao-Te Ching Summary
A Non Government Mariah Parvizi 7/16/2015 In Thoughts from the Tao te Ching, Lao Tzu illustrates
the optimal way in which a ruler should lead their country in conformity with the Tao. Lao Tzu points
out that a nation s government should put in place the slightest governance in the lives of its people,
because the good in people will come naturally when the people disregard their efforts to seek these
ethics. Finally, Lao Tzu also encourages that a leader be modest and tolerant by truly taking interest in
the civilians needs and concentrating on his home land instead of seeking issues with other worldly
places. If applied, Lao Tzu s image of a government that does not overuse it s power is only
reasonable to an degree. He refer to the labelling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This idea has been referred to as the wishful thinking fallacy. In addition to being a mental favoritism
and a poor method to making decisions, wishful thinking is commonly held to be paradox in an
argument when it is expected that because someone wishes something to be true or false, it is actually
true or false. People cannot be this compliant in their journey through life, people crave desires for
motivation to actively reach for goals. Two kinds of motivation defined in psychology are extrinsic
and intrinsic reinforcers. Extrinsic provides external rewards through other people or objects, while
intrinsic rewards are intangible and commonly contribute a feeling of achievement in simply finishing
the act. Lao Tzu primarily brings attention to losing extrinsic wants, such as power, possessions and
other s endorsement. Nonetheless, Loa Tzu also partially encourages disregarding intrinsic desires for
self enhancement, for example in this statement: when the body s intelligence declines, cleverness and
knowledge step forth . Here he conveys that when people abandon their want to become more
intelligent and stop striving to understand and learn, consequently they will naturally become smarter.

Parental Neglect By Roald Dahl s Matilda And Neil Gaiman...
Child abuse, in any form, is cause for outrage. This makes the question of whether neglect, benign or
otherwise, is better than violence hard to consider. According to Canada s Public Health Agency,
parental neglect, at 34% of cases, is the most commonly reported form of child maltreatment (31). In
Roald Dahl s Matilda and Neil Gaiman s Coraline, parental neglect is contrasted against violence as
both are shown to be psychologically detrimental to a child, while the impact of these imperfect
parents is able to help a child redefine their sense of self.
The overt neglect of her prodigal intellect experienced by Matilda leaves her feeling misunderstood
and an outsider in her family which differs from the perceived neglect which leaves Coraline
struggling with her sense of self. Born to parents described as gormless (Dahl 4), Matilda is both
blessed and cursed with a prodigal intellect. Causing Matilda to crave knowledge, it is her intellect
that leads her at the age of four years and three months (9), to defy her parents and everyday walk to
the library. Matilda admits to this neglect to Mrs. Phelps, the librarian, when she tells her of her
mother, She doesn t encourage reading books. Nor does my father (10). With this statement Matilda
shows how her parents have neglected to foster her intellect. Matilda s eagerness to digest
information, and the fact that the only book in the Wormwood home is her mother s cookbook,
elaborates how she differs from her parents.

In the aftermath of the twilight craze it might seem like vampires might die out of favor, they won t.
Their place as the most popular monster is secured.
Though zombies are the monster of the moment, vampires have plenty of things they don t, like
versatility; recognizable zombies are mindless rotting re animated corpses hungering for human flesh,
taking one of those things away doesn t mean it s not a good story but it does go against the strong
zombie image and stumble into vampire story territory. Vampires on the other hand, are often sentient
and so can be very varied in terms of character, you can have a story of a good vampire or a villain, a
new vampire or one who has lived through ages. Though, just because they can be varied doesn t

High School Law
How would teenagers react to a law that states that one must receive a high school diploma in order to
obtain a driver s license? I, for one, would not be a jolly camper, as I rely on the ability to drive for
functions similar to school or work. I also see countless young adults would oppose this law for the
same reasons. In this essay, I will dive into the effects of this law, including the hidden obscurities that
would have those effects tied to them. One effect would be the availability for teenagers to work.
Firstly, if teens cannot work, then they might not be able to support their families. Families that exist
on welfare need as much money as they can acquire, and a child not pulling his or her share of the
work would cripple the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, the entire reason many teens receive driver s licenses is for the reason that they can be free.
Taking the freedom from a teen is identical to imprisoning them. The statement is true since neither
situation allows them to leave at their own whim. Secondly, teens obtain driver s licenses for the
reason that one might desire to clear their head, or remove themselves from an abusive family. Being
able to escape is needed in one s life, lest they wish to be trapped in their own regrets and shame.
Escaping an abusive family is an absolute must, for the simple reason that is isn t ethical to force them
to stay. Finally, teens enjoy hanging out with friends. It s a natural part of society to aspire to be with
other people than their family from time to time. Parties remain an example of a piece of society that
would be demolished if driver s licenses were retrieved from teenagers until the completion of high
school. This, along with the other two factors, stands the key reasons teens should retain their licenses

The first two parts of this series on Managing Creativity in Business examined Corporate Killers of
Creativity and Key Attributes of The Creative Personality.
Now, we look at the methods that managers can employ to manage creative teams.
To harness creative attributes and obtain superior work from employees and vendors of creative
services, bosses and clients must understand their crucial role in the creative process.
The boss or client in fact must not simply manage the process, but instead must lead the creative team.
Leadership differs significantly from management. Managers plan, organize, direct, coordinate and
control. Leaders inspire. Leaders catalyze. Leaders stretch. Leaders project a vision.
The leader s job is to create an environment in which creativity can thrive. Managers who lead instead
of managing are more likely to obtain superior creative work. In addition, client as leader has the
responsibility to identify the problem not the solution. The most successful leaders delegate the search
for solutions to the creative team.

The Goal I Have For The High Schoolers
The purpose statement I have chosen reflects the goal I have for the high schoolers in my youth group.
It also lets others know why I want to work with youth in a Christian setting and in general. The
purpose of Craftsman s Heart is to Teach young people about God, crafting them into disciples
equipped with Knowledge of the Gospel, so that they may Reach the lost of the world.
Rationale: The Bible is full of stories about people who need saving. Not just people alone, but whole
countries and nations. God alone gives us the choice to obey and follow him or to turn away from him.
Though he wants us to live for him and give our lives to him. For this reason he sent his son, Jesus, to
die on the cross. Because of what he did at calvary we have the opportunity to spend eternity in
Heaven with our Saviour. I believe that every single living person should know about this option they
have. The people of the world deserve to know about Christ and what he did for them. It should not be
a knowledge or religion only allowed to those in first world countries. In Matthew 28:16 20 Jesus tells
his disciples of The Great Commission. 16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain
where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18
Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the

Importance Of Security Controls And Business Strategy For...
1. Introduction
Defense in depth is a commonly cited best practices strategy for achieving Information Assurance. It
is an approach to security that layers controls thus increasing security for the system as a whole
(United States National Security Agency, n.d.). Security controls derive from three primary categories:
Administrative, Technical/Logical, and Physical/Environmental (Harris Kumar, 2013, p. 28). To help
mature and improve information security as a process and business enabler, it is critical that
organizations adapt their understanding and cogency of administrative controls. The information
security market is flooded with technical solutions that fit into technical/logical control categories. As
more businesses move to the Cloud, physical and environmental controls are relegated to third parties.
To achieve true Defense in Depth, businesses must further develop their Administrative controls and
efforts. This enables the business to understand the value of security, and enables security to align with
business strategy (Cano M., Ph.D, CFE, 2014, p. 51 55). This paper will examine the importance of
administrative information security controls and the role they play in Defense in Depth strategies by
discussing the maturity of security programs, discovery of security program foundations, frameworks,
and process, enterprise security architecture, and the governance of information security strategies.

of animals are forced into exotic animal trades because of the government and their laws against it.

The only thing they do towards exotic animal trade is simply making laws and acts against it. If it
truly was a major problem then they should be doing more to stop it. If owning one of these animals is
so bad then why doesn t the United States government step in and take control by putting money into
stopping the trade and regulating and seriously enforcing laws. The government does so little toward
keeping people from owning an exotic animal, the hardest part to get by is the individual state laws
about the subject. The laws against owning an exotic animal varies greatly from state to state, there
really isn t much that the government does at a federal level. The individual states can have a complete
ban on owning an exotic animals while different ones simply require a permit. The United States
government doesn t have a general police power which limits their power on this notion greatly.

Introduction
Forensic psychology has had a lot of debates on the insanity defense. This paper serves as a review to
explain why the article I m reviewing relates to the insanity defense. The article I m reviewing is
called Psychosis and Substance Use: Implications for Conditional Release Readiness Evaluations.
Synopsis
Those individuals who have been hospitalized due to substance induced psychosis can be released
depending upon if they are no longer mentally ill and dangerous. According to the United States
Supreme Court and Foucha versus Louisiana in 1992, they had ruled that individuals who have been
adjudicated not guilty by reason of insanity could be released if they were no longer mentally ill and
dangerous. Substance abuse is the most common variable amongst the criminal behaviors, this is
according to Monahan et. al 2001. Comorbidity is and in fact one of the most common diagnosis in

Review Of Khaled Hosseini s Kite Runner Essay
I was on a plane when I finished reading Khaled Hosseini s Kite Runner, but my public surroundings
didn t deter me from crying as I would have, snuggled under the covers in my bed. This book
transported me to another world, with atrocities that I could never have imagined; and the worst part
was that it is based on history. Literature like this has the power to convey themes and ideas through
the stories and actions of characters. In his book How to Read Literature like a Professor, Thomas
Foster teaches his readers to become aware of this power by describing the recurring ideas that appear
in literature, and what they mean. After reading this book, one of the chapters that stood out to me,
because it reminded me of The Kite Runner, was chapter 11: More Than It s Gonne Hurt You:
Concerning Violence .
Violence in literature, according to Foster, has cultural and societal implications, though in real life, an
act of violence may not contain any meaning beyond sheer aggression. Foster makes the distinction
that in mystery novels, violence lacks the extra layer of meaning, because the author writes it in for a
different purpose entirely. After having watched several detective shows, I can confirm that the violent
act merely serves as a means of creating a plot at the beginning, while the emphasis of the plot is more
focused on how the mystery is solved, rather than the reason for the act of violence in the first place.
However, in most other genres, violence contains another

Cacao Influence On Mayan Culture
At first consideration, chocolate and the Maya peoples do not appear to be related in any manner, but
this could not be farther from the truth. Cacao, the tree from which chocolate is processed, is heavily
intertwined in the religious and secular lives of the Maya, in the past as well as the present. Chocolate,
as we know it today, too was born from the Maya and their contact with the Europeans, perhaps the
only good thing to come from the interactions. Thanks to the Europeans, cacao has impacted the rest
of the world in as great a manner as it impacted the Maya.
The Maya were, and are, a group of Mesoamericans whose settlements spanned from Mexico to
Belize, beginning as early as 1500 B.C.E (Maya People). According to a display at the ki Xocolatil

Leadership Styles From The Point Of View
Comparative Analysis
The articles under analysis explore leadership styles from the point of view of their relation to gender
(Merchant, 2012) and personality (Yahaya et al., 2011). Merchant (2012) provides a valuable research,
which is focused on gender as the major determinant of leadership styles in individuals. Providing an
analysis of literature, Merchant (2012) indicates that many studies analyzing the intersection of gender
and influence tactics have resulted in mixed finding (p. 24). It proves the argument that gender
stereotypes play a major role in attributing particular roles for females and males on the basis of their
biological sex and what is expected of them. Whereas Merchant (2012) does not present a particular

I happened to work under both female and male leadership, and I should admit that the difference
between them is not evident everything depends on personality, and dissimilarities in influence tactics
are attributed to situational circumstances such as individual setting (Merchant, 2012, p. 26).
Personal Leadership Style
My leadership style is both Participative and Democratic, and it is influenced by the three variables
gender, personality, and age. Democratic Leader makes the final decision, only after receiving the
input and recommendations of all team members, (Goetsch, 2002). I focus on getting to the bottom of
the problem with working through it.
Effect of Gender
Though gender is a contradictory variable in affecting leadership styles, I should note that gender does
play an important role in the way I influence other people. In this aspect, I should agree with Merchant
(2012), who indicate, women value cooperation [...] and have a less clear focus on where the
boundaries of their friendships end and their individual identities begin (p. 18). As a female, I feel I
have to work harder than a male doing the same job. Even though, I feel that I have to work harder
than a man, I also think that it s not always about your gender, but how a person is a leader. Kanter,
argues that males and females who occupy the same organizational role theoretically differ very

Since we became a free country in 1776, the people have a say in what goes on in the government

Sofia Petrovna Essay
HIST 3163 Take Home Assignment While both Sofia Petrovna by Lydia Chukovskaya and One Day

The Role Of Male And Female Roles In Society
In general, the male and female roles in society at that time were very different. Ultimately, the males
were the ones with the most power. Thus, they seemed to think they knew what is best for the lady s.
Still, she is suffering from depression and went to two different doctors. My brother is also a
physician, and also of high standing, and he says the same thing (). John is a highly looked upon
physician, he tries to make life choices for her that he knows what is best for her, but does he really?
Power was everything to men it made them who they were. Therefore, if they didn t have power, they
were viewed as weak and unsuccessful in life.
In addition, the female role was very different from the male role. Moreover, women were seen as
very dependent on the male. The male made the choices and the female did whatever they are told.
Therefore, they were more likely to stay at home and tend to house work while their husband was
away at work. Sadly, they didn t seem to get much of a social life. Ultimately, if they wanted to go
somewhere they had to ask permission of the man, but if the man was not around they would do what
they wanted to. Ironically, the women would tend to hide things from the men because they would
disapprove of their choices. Unfortunately, it was a period of time in which women didn t have much
power and were forced to live under a rock. Furthermore, the men wanted them to be blind to the
truth, so they couldn t over power them.

How Did Alexander The Great Influence Hellenism
Hello, my name is Kavauri Mckinnon. Today i will be writing a report on Alexander the Great. More
specifically, his influence on Hellenism. To give a brief insight on what Hellenism is, it is the culture
of ancient Greece. This term can be traced back to the Hellenistic period. The Hellenistic period is a
the time between the death of Alexander the Great and the annexation of the classical Greek
heartlands by Rome. Speaking of Alexander the Great, I believe I should start this off by describing
exactly who he was. Alexander the Great was born on July 20, 356 B.C., in Pella, in the Ancient Greek
kingdom of Macedonia. During his reign as king, from 336 to 323 B.C., he united the Greek city states
and led the Corinthian League. He also became ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lysimachus had the areas of Thrace and much of Asia Minor, Cassander received Macedonia and
Greece, Ptolemy seized Egypt, Palestine, Cilicia, Petra, and Cyprus, and Seleucus took control of the
rest of Asia. Hellenic influence continued to spread throughout the lands ruled by the generals and
Greek dedications, statues, architecture and inscriptions have been found in abundance in every locale.
Greek language introduced Greek literature into the former Persian Empire, thereby influencing the
philosophical thought and writing of the region. The Great Library at Alexandria, Egypt, which is said
to have been started by Ptolemy I, became the most important center for learning in the ancient world.
Greek theater flourished throughout the lands conquered by Alexander and the amphitheaters built
during the Hellenistic Period show markedly Greek features no matter the nationality of the architect
nor the country of construction. The spread of Greek influence and language is also shown through
coinage. Portraits became more realistic, and the obverse of the coin was often used to display a

  • 5. Analysis Of Frances Burney s The Perfect Definition Of... Frances Burney was born in a time where women were treated differently from men and expected to marry as soon as possible. Evelina, a book published in 1778, portrays a character with the same name who experiences stages in her life before finally becoming a lady in personality and title. In Evelina, Burney presents the treatment of different women within a male dominated society. The ideal woman was often presented as a delicate object that depended on a man. In the novel, the perfect definition of a lady by the standards of that time is none other than Lord Orville s younger sister Lady Louisa. When Lady Louisa is seen at Mrs. Beaumont s home, Evelina notices that she is wobbling rather walking into a room and that her voice [spoke] so softly she could hardly be heard . This demonstrates her extreme femininity for being very weak and fragile to the point that she is quickly fatigued to death (410). Moreover, another example was Mrs. Mirvan in the first volume who was a kind and sweet tempered woman (132). Like a true lady of that time, she was highly dependent on a man and so she was often charged to healing those wounds which her husband s inflicts (150). Yet, Lady Louisa still remains as the main example of a real lady due to her behavior. She was easily tired, enjoyed having the attention on her and associated herself solely with those who were of her class. Sir Clement Willoughby also presents his own impression of her Ladyship: she is a mere compound of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Paleolithic era is called the Old Stone Age, and the Neolithic era is called the New Stone Age. Pre History is the time before history where people had not developed the use of writing nor cities. The societies of the Stone Age started to emerge as early hominids made most of their tools out of stone , and because of their use of stone they are said to belong to the Stone Age, the Paleolithic and Neolithic eras (Cole and Symes 4). The Paleolithic era is labeled as the development of tools and a hunting and gathering period. The hominids in Africa started to make tools with stone and fire. • 7. A Research Study On Mutual Fund Essay 1.0 CHAPTER ONE 1.1 Introduction A mutual fund and also known as unit trust can be defined as a form of collective investments that allows the investors which have similar investment objectives to pool their funds to be invested in a portfolio of securities or other assets. The fund managers will invest the pooled funds in the portfolio fund, particularly include some assets like cash, bonds, deposits, stocks, commodities and also properties parallel to the fund s objectives. Each investor owns shares, which represent a portion of the holdings of the fund. The mutual fund industry in Malaysia started as far back as 1959 with the advent of the Malayan Unit Trust Limited, which was launched by a group of Australian investors. The development of the industry did not take off until the 1980s after the launch of Amanah Saham Nasional (Barom, 2004). The Amanah Saham Nasional was initiated by the Malaysian Government to promote equity ownership by the indigenous population. Aided by high and consistent economic growth since the 1990s, the mutual fund industry had grown exponentially until 1997, in which the East Asian financial crisis (EAF) of 1997 brought a sudden halt to such a rapid development. After the EAF, the Malaysian mutual fund trust industry has experienced a solid recovery. This can be reflected in the number of management companies that steadily increased from 13 in the mid 1990s to 37 in the early 2000s (Saad et al., 2010). In line with the rapid growth of the ... Causes Of The African Water Crisis The average American uses about 176 gallons of water in one single day, while in Africa, 660 million people see just one sip as a luxury, states Kristen Lewis in the article entitled THIRST for the 2016 Scholastic Scope. Without water, people cannot carry out daily activities and struggle to survive. The water crisis in Africa is an expanding problem in our world that continues to affect millions of people each day; fortunately, this crisis has caught the attention of The Water Project, a nonprofit organization in the United States that raises money to solve water crises around the world. The Africa water crisis has come about due to several factors that create negative outcomes for the citizens of Africa, but The Water Project is doing all they can to resolve these issues. There are a variety of causes held responsible for the water crisis in Africa. These causes have been taken from African s control and desperately need to be solved. Climate change is one of the countless reasons that there is a high demand for water in Africa. An article entitled Africa s Water Crisis Deepens written for the 2006 News Scientist, states that Drought, famine and spreading deserts have plagued Africa for the past 30 years. With the expansion of desertification, the process in which land becomes increasingly dry with little to no water resources, areas of land have dried out and are useless to humans due to the lack of rainfall on the African continent over the past several years. ... • 12. The Human Impact On Natural Environment The human impact on natural environment is one of the most pressing issues of contemporary times and a subject of discussion. The increasing human population and the rising level of technology both have become significant factors in raising the environmental problems. There are several environmental problems around the world today which occurred due to both natural and human causes. Of all the global environmental problems, desertification is, perhaps, the most threatening problem. Desertification is the expansion of desert lands into previously non desert areas. Today in many countries lands are becoming into deserts, and due to the conditions in the world soon we will not be able to take it back. There are two main causes of desertification, one is human activities and the other is climatic variations. The first and the most important cause of desertification is human activities. Human causes includes Overgrazing, Over cultivation, Mismanagement of irrigation, Deforestation, Urban and industrial activities, mining and exploitation of resources etc. All human causes are related to over population. Due to overpopulation there is great pressure on land and resources. According to Neo Malthusian, demographic pressure leads to overuse and misuse of resources (Malthus, 1798). Earlier desertification was only a natural formation but day by day humans are becoming responsible for it because of land mismanagements. One theory argues that resources under common ... The coexistence of the uncommon disease known as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy or DMD, has come to the attention of many and has manifested within this document to generalize the history, impact, and significance of the disease. The history of DMD stemmed from the progressive muscular dystrophy of two 10 year old boys names Conte and Gonji in 1836. Since this becoming the first historical account of such a disease, many doctors and specialists speculated a more catastrophic form of tuberculosis; when revisited by scientists it was concluded that they suffered from the milder Becker MD. In 1852, Meryon reported in striking points of interest a family with four young men, every one of whom were influenced by huge muscle changes, however had no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As shown in Figure 1, this presents the most common scenario that is passed down to children since most people with the disease do not have a long enough life expectancy, and most females who get both affected X chromosomes by a carrier mother and affected father is very unlikely. The chart explains how the males who receive the disease get it from a carrier mother who is unaffected by the disease as the one affected X chromosome is masked by unaffected X chromosome; a task that the Y chromosome cannot achieve, thus making the male population inclined to receive it more likely than females. Figure 1 illustrates a more detailed Punnett Square depicts the common scenario. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is caused by a mutation of the dystrophin gene at locus Xp21, located on the short arm of the X chromosome. The DMD disease occurs primarily from frameshift mutations in the dystrophin gene. Just short of 70% of cases of DMD occur from deletion of the dystrophin gene, 10% of cases occur from the harmful addition of the gene. The remaining cases (that have medically been recorded), have occurred because of disastrous point mutations that change in the DNA sequence. • 15. Essay about The Theme of Coming of Age in Literature The Theme of Coming of Age in Literature There comes a time is each person s life when they reach the point where they are no longer children, but adults. The transition from a child into a young adult is often referred to as the coming of age, or growing up. The time when this transition occurs is different in everyone, since everyone is an individual and no two people are alike. Certain children reach this stage through a tragic, painful event which affects them to such extent that they are completely changed. Other children reach this time by simply growing older and having a better understanding of the world around them. The coming of age really is indefinite and cannot be marked in general overview. This stage in life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition to the different ways that culture celebrates the coming of age it is also one of the worlds most popular and beloved themes in literature. The Circus is a touching story about a man s kindness and how the realization of this played an important part of his son s coming age. In Dan Clark s The Circus , it is obvious how this young man realizes what being kind really means. Clark states that We didn t go to the Circus that night but we didn t go without. (1995, pg. 4) quote demonstrates that the young man realizes that it is more important to be generous than it was to go to the circus. This was the first step of this young man s transition into the adult life. More often than not, the plot, characters, theme and conflicts in literature deal with the theme coming of age, are very realistic. As a week went by the weeping went with it also, As the boy ever so slowly got over the sheep of his lost herd. He decided to change to not become a liar but, to become a hero and to get revenge upon that wolf. The townsfolk were glad that he had stopped being the Boy who cried wolf but, now they were more worried about him than the sheep. He seemed angry as the wolf had ruined his herd. So they decided to confront him about this and they asked Are you ok boy do you need help. The boy only smiled and said, No need there will not be any need for help. The boy then walked off and left the village. The boy had already found out where the wolf went. This was because he followed the wolf s trail which ended at a immense gap in a mountain that looked like it stretched beyond the sky. This cave was covered in wolf tracks from all directions. The cave seemed as if it was once a large den of wolves. It entrance was like a mouth that swallowed up everything that went in. The boy then took the first step in. David Thomas article The Mind of Man points out that women are progressing readily in today s society, but where are the men? Years ago men were the only ones permitted into colleges. But as time went by people s ways of thinking changed dramatically. People began to realize that girls were not getting the education boys were, and things had to be changed. Years ago, elementary teachers, along with everybody else in society, put more emphasis on boys education. This is understandable if we recall that at that time men were the ones who were working and running the show, while the womans job was to stay home and tend to the children. At that time boys were treated fairly in the school system. The boys behaved rowdy and aggressive as boys do, but the teachers accepted it, to an extent, because they understood that boys will be boys and that this was their natural behavior. The boys would outgrow their anti social behavior in due time. Unfortunately this isn t the case in today s society. The society of today rewards feminine behavior and frowns upon what is considered masculine behavior. Many female teachers, having been influenced by society, unconsciously frown upon the behavior of their male students constantly. Thomas says that there is a direct response between a child s academic achievement and a favorable response from the teacher . Jesse Owens bravery and courage to go to the 1936 Berlin Olympics led to less racial discrimination in sports, more blacks competing in athletics, and to more respect for black people. Back in this time, there weren t many black people competing in sports. This was because racial tension in America was at a high and many black people didn t want to deal with it. • 22. Parental Neglect By Roald Dahl s Matilda And Neil Gaiman... Child abuse, in any form, is cause for outrage. This makes the question of whether neglect, benign or otherwise, is better than violence hard to consider. According to Canada s Public Health Agency, parental neglect, at 34% of cases, is the most commonly reported form of child maltreatment (31). In Roald Dahl s Matilda and Neil Gaiman s Coraline, parental neglect is contrasted against violence as both are shown to be psychologically detrimental to a child, while the impact of these imperfect parents is able to help a child redefine their sense of self. The overt neglect of her prodigal intellect experienced by Matilda leaves her feeling misunderstood and an outsider in her family which differs from the perceived neglect which leaves Coraline struggling with her sense of self. Born to parents described as gormless (Dahl 4), Matilda is both blessed and cursed with a prodigal intellect. Causing Matilda to crave knowledge, it is her intellect that leads her at the age of four years and three months (9), to defy her parents and everyday walk to the library. Matilda admits to this neglect to Mrs. Phelps, the librarian, when she tells her of her mother, She doesn t encourage reading books. Nor does my father (10). With this statement Matilda shows how her parents have neglected to foster her intellect. It is an approach to security that layers controls thus increasing security for the system as a whole (United States National Security Agency, n.d.). Security controls derive from three primary categories: Administrative, Technical/Logical, and Physical/Environmental (Harris Kumar, 2013, p. 28). To help mature and improve information security as a process and business enabler, it is critical that organizations adapt their understanding and cogency of administrative controls. The information security market is flooded with technical solutions that fit into technical/logical control categories. As more businesses move to the Cloud, physical and environmental controls are relegated to third parties. To achieve true Defense in Depth, businesses must further develop their Administrative controls and efforts. This enables the business to understand the value of security, and enables security to align with business strategy (Cano M., Ph.D, CFE, 2014, p. 51 55). This paper will examine the importance of administrative information security controls and the role they play in Defense in Depth strategies by discussing the maturity of security programs, discovery of security program foundations, frameworks, and process, enterprise security architecture, and the governance of information security strategies. 2. Review Of Khaled Hosseini s Kite Runner Essay I was on a plane when I finished reading Khaled Hosseini s Kite Runner, but my public surroundings didn t deter me from crying as I would have, snuggled under the covers in my bed. This book transported me to another world, with atrocities that I could never have imagined; and the worst part was that it is based on history. Literature like this has the power to convey themes and ideas through the stories and actions of characters. In his book How to Read Literature like a Professor, Thomas Foster teaches his readers to become aware of this power by describing the recurring ideas that appear in literature, and what they mean. After reading this book, one of the chapters that stood out to me, because it reminded me of The Kite Runner, was chapter 11: More Than It s Gonne Hurt You: Concerning Violence . Violence in literature, according to Foster, has cultural and societal implications, though in real life, an act of violence may not contain any meaning beyond sheer aggression. Foster makes the distinction that in mystery novels, violence lacks the extra layer of meaning, because the author writes it in for a different purpose entirely. After having watched several detective shows, I can confirm that the violent act merely serves as a means of creating a plot at the beginning, while the emphasis of the plot is more focused on how the mystery is solved, rather than the reason for the act of violence in the first place. However, in most other genres, violence contains another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Sofia Petrovna Essay HIST 3163 Take Home Assignment While both Sofia Petrovna by Lydia Chukovskaya and One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn describe the horrors and terror of the Great Purge under Joseph Stalin s Soviet Union, Chukovskaya is able to describe the terror felt and lived by the ordinary person in Russia at the time while Solzhenitsyn describes the terror felt by prisoners who were arrested, innocent or otherwise, during the Purge. In Lydia Chukovskaya s Sofia Petrovna, she aims to capture the dreadful atmosphere of Stalin s Great Purge. The main character, Sofia Petrovna, works as a typist in the Soviet Union who is proud of her son Kolya. Kolya is an engineering student and a strong Communist who is at the beginning of a promising career. As the Great Purge begins, Sofia s coworkers begin vanishing as accusations of treachery are spoken. It isn t long before Kolya is arrested, though Sofia is in denial about the circumstances of his capture. She attempts to find out more about what happened to her son, but she is drowned out by long lines and bureaucrats. Sofia blames Kolya s best friend, Alik, for his arrest. • 41. The Role Of Male And Female Roles In Society In general, the male and female roles in society at that time were very different. Ultimately, the males were the ones with the most power. Thus, they seemed to think they knew what is best for the lady s. Still, she is suffering from depression and went to two different doctors. My brother is also a physician, and also of high standing, and he says the same thing (). John is a highly looked upon physician, he tries to make life choices for her that he knows what is best for her, but does he really? Power was everything to men it made them who they were. Therefore, if they didn t have power, they were viewed as weak and unsuccessful in life. In addition, the female role was very different from the male role. Moreover, women were seen as very dependent on the male. The male made the choices and the female did whatever they are told. Therefore, they were more likely to stay at home and tend to house work while their husband was away at work. Sadly, they didn t seem to get much of a social life. Ultimately, if they wanted to go somewhere they had to ask permission of the man, but if the man was not around they would do what they wanted to. Ironically, the women would tend to hide things from the men because they would disapprove of their choices. Unfortunately, it was a period of time in which women didn t have much power and were forced to live under a rock. Furthermore, the men wanted them to be blind to the truth, so they couldn t over power them. In addition, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Hellenistic period is a the time between the death of Alexander the Great and the annexation of the classical Greek heartlands by Rome. Speaking of Alexander the Great, I believe I should start this off by describing exactly who he was. Alexander the Great was born on July 20, 356 B.C., in Pella, in the Ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia. During his reign as king, from 336 to 323 B.C., he united the Greek city states and led the Corinthian League. He also became ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lysimachus had the areas of Thrace and much of Asia Minor, Cassander received Macedonia and Greece, Ptolemy seized Egypt, Palestine, Cilicia, Petra, and Cyprus, and Seleucus took control of the rest of Asia. Hellenic influence continued to spread throughout the lands ruled by the generals and Greek dedications, statues, architecture and inscriptions have been found in abundance in every locale. Greek language introduced Greek literature into the former Persian Empire, thereby influencing the philosophical thought and writing of the region. The Great Library at Alexandria, Egypt, which is said to have been started by Ptolemy I, became the most important center for learning in the ancient world. Greek theater flourished throughout the lands conquered by Alexander and the amphitheaters built during the Hellenistic Period show markedly Greek features no matter the nationality of the architect nor the country of construction. The spread of Greek influence and language is also shown through coinage. Portraits became more realistic, and the obverse of the coin was often used to display a propaganda image, commemorating an event or displaying the image of a favored ...
