Analysis Of Walt Whitman s Song Of Myself
Walt Whitman s Song of Myself helps inspire my body and soul, activates my mind, and encourages
individual discovery for the sake of creating a better world for all to live in. It also acts as a form of
instruction for becoming an American in ideal and in action. Through his free form verse and tone that
reflects more of a wizened and rosy cheeked grandfather than controversial poet, Whitman s writing
acts as a refreshing breath to all, including myself, that are searching for an empathetic peace of mind.
I celebrate myself, and sing myself,/ And what I assume you shall assume,/ For every atom belonging
to me as good belongs to you./ , Whitman begins, inviting the reader to a conversation by the fireside,
as we are equal in spirit, matter, and creation, which should obviously be celebrated and shared.
Whitman provides a view of the world around him in which every action, person, object, and event is
held as a miracle. He harkens back to Emersonian ideals of the divine being a part of all, reflecting, I
hear and behold God in every object, yet understand God not in the least, and further on, I see
something of God each hour of the twenty four, and each moment then . This challenges me to open
my mind to a worldview not limited to my own origin or upbringing, but to view the world with a
universal love and positive connection. This includes looking onto traditionally repulsive concepts,
including body odor, the butcher shedding his clothes, and a prostitute stricken with pox, as signs of
the divine. Pages are dedicated to describing the sights he assigns as portions of the song of myself .
He, and by extension, me, have a personal connection to the boy that lies awake in the cedar roof d
garret and harks to the musical rain , and have just as close a bond to the aforementioned prostitute as
her bonnet bobs on her tipsy and pimpled neck . John Paul Jones is as much a part of us as the
numberless unknown heroes that have perished without memory. All are equal parts of himself and
myself, as every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.
Whitman wrote in a manner to educate every person, and more specifically, every American, on how
to embrace each moment and forge a path to understand their

As you can see replicators played a huge part in creating life. How did replicators lead to the first cell
though? If replicators are meant to replicate and reproduce how did they end up making a living
organism? The first cell is presumed to have arisen by the enclosure of self replicating RNA in a
membrane composed of phospholipids which are the principal components of cell membranes. The
process of replication lead to the first cell which is called LUCA (Last Universal Common Ancestor).
Many scientist believe that all living things on earth originated from an ancient organism called
LUCA. The single celled being likely lived about 4 billion years ago and is thought to have eventually
spawned two distinct groups of unicell life, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A lot of the time when a virus come into contact with the host or as we may know it, the cell, it can
insert its genetic material into its host, literally taking over the host s functions. Some viruses may
remain dormant inside host cells for long periods, causing no obvious change in their host cells, but
once stimulated new viruses are formed, self assemble, and burst out of the host cell, killing the cell
and going on to infect other cells. All this is just a constant battle between the host and cell. Without a
host cell, viruses cannot carry out their life sustaining functions or reproduce. They cannot synthesize
proteins, because they lack ribosomes and must use the ribosomes of their host cells to translate viral
messenger RNA into viral proteins. Viruses cannot generate or store energy, but have to derive their
energy, and all other metabolic functions, from the host cell. Sometimes the virus will not be in the
cell but outside functioning as coat for the protein. Viruses cause a number of diseases in humans most
commonly heard of ones are, smallpox, the common cold, chickenpox, influenza, shingles, herpes,
polio, rabies, ebola, hanta fever, and AIDS are examples of the diseases caused by viruses. Even some
types of cancer but not all. As Sun Tzu wrote in The Art of War, All warfare is based on deception . He
could have easily been describing the ancient battle between virus and host

Physiology Of Fluid Balance And The Functions Of The Main...
Unit 13: Physiology of Fluid Balance
In this assignment I will be describing the microstructure of a typical animal cell and the functions of
the main cell components. Describing and explaining the factors the ways in which materials move in
and out of cells. I will also be analysing the role of the phospholipid bilayer in terms of movement of
materials in and out of cells.
Lysosomes Lysosomes act as the digestive system of the cell. They are found in all parts of the cell.
There are very powerful enzymes within lysosomes.
Cytoplasm Cytoplasm is the gel like substance within the cell and outside the nucleus. Chemical
reactions are carried out in the cytoplasm.
Nucleus The nucleus is the largest organelle in the cell. It acts as the control system for almost all the
activities of the cell. It stores the cell s hereditary material, or DNA
Mitochondria Spherical bodies in the cytoplasm where energy is produced. The cell uses this energy to
perform the specific work necessary for cell survival and function.
Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) Endoplasmic reticulum is a branching network that fills the cell interior.
There two types of ER: Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER) Synthesis of lipid, glycogen and
steroids (e.g. cholesterol and testosterone).
Rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) They are called because of the presence of ribosomes on them.
They provide a site for protein synthesis and helps transport protein.

Taking a Look at the Aswan Dam
Assignment #2
The Aswan dam was constructed as a direct response to the rapid population growth within Egypt
during that time. With a population of 26 million by the time construction began on the dam, the
government of Egypt was worried about food and energy demands. The dams original thought was to
provide power and expand available water supplies outside of the flooding season to allow for higher
agricultural yields. The construction of the dam also thought to carry some secondary effect with it,
such as additional fishing grounds and channels for navigation. It was believed that the additional
energy production would also drive down the price of electricity, making it more affordable. A major
aspect of the dam project was the reservoir to hold the floodwaters and control the release rate.
However, the creation of the reservoir flooded a large upper land area requiring the relocation of over
50,000 Nubian residents. The relocating of residents because of dam construction is fairly common, as
over ten million residents of China of had to relocate as a result of dams, 1.5 million for the three
gorges dam alone. The relocation of the Nubians did have a positive effect over time as their
infectious disease rate dropped. Although the relocation did leave them unhappy as they were moved
further into the desert. The reservoir also negatively impacted archaeological sites in the area, as they
were flooded over. The reservoir it self was predicted by some scientists that

Balancing The Federal Budget Process
Group Project Joint Paper: Balancing the Federal Budget
Luis A. Santiago Gaetan, Abby Baumann, and Erin Kirchner
University of Massachusetts Amherst
Introduction This is Red Team s joint paper on balancing the budget of the government of the United
States of America. Red Team s (from here on we/our) position regarding balancing the budget and
reducing the federal deficit varies slightly. In many ways some team members believe that the federal
budget is much like any other budget, with a set amount of money coming in, a set of expenditures
that are mandatory , and the choice to save any money left over for emergencies, or spend it on those
things that aren t mandatory. Some team members also believe that increasing taxes or cutting
spending alone will not effectively reduce the deficit and balance the federal budget. However, the
federal budget process is a complex one.
How, where and when does the federal budget process originate? The first step in the Federal budget
process as required by law is the President s Budget Request, initiated every February. The purpose of
this budget request is to allow the President to make recommendations pertaining to how much money
the federal government needs to operate successfully, how much money the government needs to
collect, in the form of tax revenue, and how much of a budget surplus or deficit the budget will have
for the following fiscal year. The second step in the budget process is the Congressional Budget
Resolution, which

Being A Sixth Grade Mean Girl
On Being a Sixth Grade Mean Girl Squeals pierce my eardrums as little girls talk about loving their
boyfriends. The overbearing scent of Axe radiates off of every arrogant schoolboy who gallivants
across the grounds and stops at my locker. Gossip flutters around me, seducing me into its inescapable
vice. Such was Memorial Middle School when I first debuted in August, 2011. Going into sixth grade,
I was the most popular girl in school. Although I may have had ebony hair and bubblegum lips, there
was no hiding the ugliness of who I was: the meanest girl in school. I hadn t always been that girl; for
two years I was the opposite, a victim of excruciating cruelty. In third grade, I was placed into the
Enrichment program, a group of five ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I loved to read, so I was a nerd; I used words they couldn t understand, so I was a freak. Soon enough,
I started to believe them; by the conclusion of fourth grade, I felt worthless. When I learned that I
would be transferring schools, I saw redemption. That summer, I exchanged novels for magazines; I
went on extreme diets to lose weight as if cutting pounds could cut the memories of abuse from my
head. Going into fifth grade, I found myself googling How to be Normal in an attempt to abandon my
identity; fifteen pounds and a miniskirt later, I had all but done so. By maintaining a facade of
normalcy , I became instantly popular, and I gained influence that I had never thought possible. Girls
looked to me for advice on everything from boys to hairstyles, and I reveled in my superiority . Thus,
when sixth grade arrived, I was a bully; I became the people who had tormented me. I was
deliberately vicious, ridiculing anyone who didn t fit the impossible standard I used to hide my
insecurities. I slashed people down and used their broken pieces to repair myself. The girl I had been
seemed permanently lost to the monster I had become until Julia. Julia was everything I secretly
longed to be: beautiful, brilliant, and unapologetically compassionate. She was my first friend in
Mentor, but I rapidly abandoned her upon realizing that she was unpopular . That is where our contact
ended; simply ignoring her meant that no harm came to

The Themes Of Motherhood In Peter The Park
Motherhood feeling blooms in each woman s heart. As a little girl, motherhood is practiced through
doll as if it is her baby. As a woman grows up, she creates her dreams of being a mother, strong bond,
and attachment to this world; she naturally belongs to this hood. Motherhood then becomes waking up
in the middle of the night to make sure that her child is well tucked in and to give her full attention,
care, and love to a child. It is a harsh world, tiredness and exhaustion sometimes. Through the endless
journey, she consumes her real, metal and emotional power and energy for the sake of her own
children s comfort and happiness. Strangely, if asking any mother about her life as a mother? She
would happily say that being a mom is the most satisfying feeling she has ever had. Most important
chore in motherhood trip is to teach a child to grow up, as nothing equals the happiness of a mother
when finally, she knows that she raised a successful human being. As we will learn in this essay, how
is Peter s mother in Peter the Rabbit is different than Charles s mother in Voices in The Park . Both
stories hold the Growing up process theme. We ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, believing in your child and forgive him would make him doesn t fear the unknown. Peter s
mother forgives him because she knows he learned his lesson. First, she was right when she warned
him to stay away from the garden, second, he learned to be responsible and depend on himself. He
now knows how Mr. Rabbit cars or him and love him and she will always be there for him no matter
what happens even if he makes some mistakes. That is fundamentally important; each child should
know and feel that way; secured and loved. Love and care are absent in the case of Charles. His
mother keeps a gap between him and careless; he is mentally paralyzed because of his mother s
selfishness. Charles cannot grow up

The Tension Of The Air Is Abundant
Significant First Experience in My Life
The tension in the air is abundant. The silence is deafening. I m leaving... my father s voice says.
Shattering the fragile silence. Glancing to my mother for a retort. She stays silent, her breath still
heaving from the heated argument that presumably ended. Step in and comfort her, a voice say. But I
ve turned to stone and all I could do is watch. My father then ushers my sisters and me to go with him.
As he and my sisters start to stretch away, I stay in place. Abandoning my mother is not a choice I
couldn t ,and I shouldn t do this. I knew that if I were to walk away. This would be the last time. I
would see my mother. I stood my ground. My father glanced back at me as if to say Stay, it ... Show

This experience transformed my life, it opened new opportunities, and secured my family.
Initially, I never thought moving to another place like Hawaii could change my life completely. When
my mother and I were on the plane, I thought to myself that when we arrived in Hawaii and finally,
our family was all together everything would go back to normal. I was mistaken. This was a immense
and crucial changing point in my life. Originally from Arizona, I was a negligent student. Concealing
my homework from my parents and fibbing that I completed the work. Thinking I was clever, but the
consequences were C s and D s. Abruptly, when I arrived in Hawaii my work ethic started to
transform. When I enrolled into Lanakila in third grade, I wanted to be superior. This was a first.
Wanting to be the smartest in the class. Wanted to ace all the tests. This event changed the way I aspire
to be. This event ended up making me want to work sedulously and become successful. If this event
had not occurred, I would not be present today creating an essay for AP English. That is why this
event was so significant it has changed my life.
In addition to this, it opened new opportunities. Since moving to Hawaii it has changed the way I
viewed education. I valued it more, and as a result, it opened new doors for me. For instance, it
opened the door for me to graduate early from high school. If I hadn t moved then I would ve still had
the same view of education and

Public Safety Outweigh Petitioner s First Amendment Right
C. The interest of public safety outweighs Petitioner s First Amendment right to record.
Petitioner s recording posed an unreasonable risk to bystanders, passing motorist, and the police,
essentially creating an inherently dangerous situation. Kelly v. Borough of Carlisle, 622 F.3d 248, 262
(3d Cir. 2010). The Third Circuit has firmly recognized that traffic stops are especially fraught with
danger to police officers. Id. A traffic stop always poses danger because of its unpredictable nature,
but even more so, when a potential suspect is on the loose. Petitioner was a suspect for a crime of
several residential break ins, which a reasonable office would assume is armed and dangerous; thus
creating a heightened risk to the officers safety. Furthermore, the Petitioner was stopped on the side of
a road congested with traffic. If the officers do not maintain control of the situation, any unpredictable
movement could result in grave injury; therefore, the police officers acted reasonably by minimizing
the unnecessary danger added by Petitioner s recording during an already dangerous situation.
D. Petitioner s recording is not a matter of public interest that carried any expressive or
communicative purpose.
The encounter Petitioner recorded is not a matter of public interest. Although there is a broad First
Amendment right to film matters of public interest, the extend of that right to film public officials
have not been explicitly defined by the Supreme Court or any other

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Speech By Florence Kelley
In the early 1900 s the woman suffrage movement about took america captive. But only because these
women felt like they were the prisoners. During this time many women boldly spoke out about their
inability to vote, a right that is meant for everyone. Countless protests, speeches, and rallies eventually
lead to women gaining this right. But one of them stood out from the rest. Florence Kelley wasn t as
pressing as other activists, yet she was just as effective. In one of her most famous speeches she talks
about child labor law faults, and that if women are not allowed to vote then the laws will likely never
change. In this enlightening piece, Kelley focuses on convincing the audience to fight for better child
labor laws by using imagery to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audience is already feeling upset and angry about the conditions that these children are thrust into,
but Kelley begins to create a different emotion in them. Guilt. Kelley states, Tonight while we sleep,
several thousand little girls will be working in textile mills... while we sleep little white girls will be
working... And they will do so tonight, while we sleep. The repetition creates a strong sense of guilt.
She is saying that while we sleep these children are working in unfair conditions for unfair wages and
we do nothing about it, well nothing except sleep. With this weighing on their consciences, the
audience is much more likely to take action against this evil. But the guilt trip doesn t end there. She
goes on to say, The children make our shoes... our stockings. Our knitted underwear... and our cotton
underwear. This again puts some of the blame on audience. By repeating the word out Kelley is
essentially pointing out that even though the audience may not be directly responsible, the fact that
these kids work is almost a sin of omission. Without people to talk for them, how will they ever escape
this vicious cycle of unfair work and conditions? This is the exact thought that Kelley is trying to
invoke by her use of repetition. She wants her audience to feel bad about these terrible things being
done, which will then

below. Africa is a place where you can experience nature in its purest form. Many of the animals here
cannot be found anywhere else in the world except in zoos. Here, they are in their natural
environment. Much of the plant life and natural formations have a character to them that is uniquely
African. Think about the following.

Hello, I am known as the Creature, and I am creating this paper to document what has happened after

As producers of more than half the world s cocoa beans, the Western African countries of Ghana and
the Ivory Coast are in constant need of laborers, often calling on a younger population to replenish
their supply. In fact, more than 1.8 million (or thirty percent of) Sub Saharan African children under
the age of fifteen are laborers, mainly in agricultural fields like cocoa farming. While this percentage
seems shockingly high, the most disturbing truth is that over twelve thousand of these children many
of them as young as eleven are sold to cocoa farm owners as slaves. Not only are they stolen from
their families and stripped of their education and health; they are also subjected to countless hours of
brutal work and physical abuse. What they get in return is another unit of cocoa beans to harvest, a
tedious and dangerous task that can result in grave injury.
Some organizations, such as CBS and Green America, have petitioned to end child slavery in the
cocoa farms. While marginal progress has been made, there remains much to be done. By purchasing

Colorado River Basin Essay
The Colorado River Basin starts in the Rocky Mountains and cuts through 1500 miles of canyon lands
and deserts of seven US states and two Mexican states to supply a collection of dams and reservoirs
with water to help irrigate cropland, support 40 million people, and provide hydroelectric power for
the inland western United States [1,2]. From early settlement, rights over the river have been debated
and reassigned to different states in the upper and lower basin; however, all the distribution patterns
lead to excessive consumption of the resource. In 1922, the seven US states signed into the Colorado
River Compact, which outlined the policy for the distribution rights to the water [3], however, this

As previously mentioned, the Colorado River compact was written and signed during abnormally wet
climate cycles [4]. When the climate cycled back into the more traditional drier climate during the mid
twentieth century, the river no longer made it to the Gulf of California. While this was not an
immediate concern as water levels remained well above the critical elevation, recent global warming
trends have played a major role in the decline water supply in the Colorado River Basin. Over the past
15 years, the Colorado River Basin has experienced declining annual precipitation rates and higher
temperatures throughout the year, which has cascade into higher evaporative loads from the soil and
reservoirs, longer growing seasons that require more water, earlier melting times, all of which have
reduced runoff and water supply [10]. In addition to the environmental factors, the differing
conservation policies, water costs, and infrastructure planning across the basin state has contributed to
water consumption that is above the basin s renewable supply [14]. States like Nevada enforce strict
that limit residents use via strict conservation policies, while states like California and Colorado use
their senior water rights to maximum legal consumption and are planning to construct larger dams to

and his son, Haemon, are arguing about what to do about Antigone. At first Haemon is agreeing with
his father, yet, as the conversation escalates Haemon starts to take the side of his fiancé, Antigone.
Creon states,

Sexual Objectification in Music Videos and How Adolescents Are Affected
Lauren Faron, Aynsley Fishel, Nisha Patel, Menelik Solomon
The Ohio State University
Music videos are easily accessible to everyone, especially adolescents. From its earliest origins on TV
to recent upgrades to technology on the internet, such as YouTube, anyone can watch music videos at
any time of the day. Online music video sites draw an average of 150 million people each month who
view more than two billion videos per day (Mischner, Schie, Wigboldus, Baaren, Engels, 2013).
Sexually objectifying music videos have increased in the last couple of decades. With this, more
adolescents are being influenced by viewing these videos and mostly all of them are affected in some
way, either positive or negative. What a lot of people do not know is what is happening to adolescents
after viewing these types of music videos and how it can lead to concerning effects later in
development.
Literature Review
Adolescence is a crucial time in the lives of young boys and girls, especially when it comes to viewing
music videos. A survey showing that 78% of girls 12 19 years old watch MTV regularly, making them
the most frequent viewers at around 6.4 hours a week (Bell, Lawton, Dittmar, 2007). This is important
because it brings into light the idea of girls watching these sexually objectifying videos and how they
experience body dissatisfaction. Body dissatisfaction is a

Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously Summary
Julie Powell, the author of her own memoir, was a distraught secretary working at a bureaucratic
organization led primarily by Republicans in order to build a memorial to the terrorist attack on
September 11th, 2001. To further this misery, she was told that she may be unable to have children in
the future. After hearing this news, she and her husband Eric went to her mother s house in Texas
where Powell found an old copy of Julia Child s Mastering the Art of French Cooking which reminded
her of childhood memories of sneaking looks at and moments with books about sex and cooking she
knew she should not read. She was inspired by these memories to cook every recipe in Julia Child s
historic and expansive cookbook, in one year.
The challenge started well with Powell quickly cooking the first few of the 524 recipes in just one
weekend. Powell began to have a new purpose at work instead of being forced to listen to ludicrous
ideas for a national monument, including a football field built on ground zero, and was more and more
excited to go home and continue her self assigned project.
While The Project began well, Julia Child s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Judith Jones, and invited the editing legend to have dinner at

gain enough attention to gain a media audience. Many months into The Project, a reporter from CNN
came to interview Powell about her Julie/Julia Project and record some footage of her cooking. This
interview was noticed by other news networks and Powell was interviewed for The New York Times
and by other CNN anchors who Powell gets the opportunity to cook

Nursing Mobility And Safety
Mobility and safety are two nursing topics that are very related. Safety is the key to ensure that the
patient can remain mobile. It is important that the patient has ways to move around without fear of
falling. It is also imperative that the patient knows how to move safely and use mobility devices. The
nurse needs to understand how these two topics go together to ensure that the patient will remained
unharmed at the hospital and in the home. As stated earlier, safety is so important to make sure that
patient keeps their mobility. The surroundings need to be safe to prevent falls. When falls are
prevented, the patient remains mobile. One safety precautions to ensure that falls do not happen is to
have a clear area for the patient to be able to walk around. This means not having objects in their
pathway or rugs in their walkway. Having these objects in the way can cause the patient to have a fall.

There might be certain movements that can affect mobility in the future or could re injure they
surgical site. For example, after a hip replacement surgery patients are given and abduction pillow.
According to Hip Rehab After Surgery , the pillow is used to prevent the patient from dislocating their
new hip. After the surgery for safety reasons their mobility must be restricted while it heals. When
they do the surgery, they cut through muscles and those have to grow back. This will prevent further
injury and the patient will be able to get back their normal mobility after it is healed. Although there
are certain actions that post operation patients cannot do they still need to be mobile. The patient is
moved as soon as the patient is able to handle it. Getting the patient up will prevent blood clots in their
legs and promote blood circulation. Proper blood flow to the legs will mean that they can remain
mobile and stay

Alexander The Great And Greek Culture Of Alexander The Great
Through his admiration of Greek culture, Alexander The Great was able to spread the Hellenistic ways
of life such as art, education, government, customs, ceremony, and purpose. Those cultural factors fall
under the category of Classical Greek ideals which are the basis of the influential Hellenistic period
promoted and envied by Alexander of Macedon. Through learning the history of his extensive military
campaigns across many lands, it is fair to state that Alexander of Macedon and his empire represent
the essence of Greek culture as well as a transformation of it in in a way he saw as more modern. We
even see this in some of the cities he named after himself. Alexander of Macedon left a legacy in not
only the Hellenistic kingdoms, but across the globe though Asia as well. What is interesting is that the
Macedonian Empire was an idea of its own, but we still see Alexander follow many Hellenistic views
as he values some beliefs in which are Greek. He admired the Greek culture and brought it to the
many places he conquered. After his death, the Macedonian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Through his conquest as king of Macedonia he managed to spread Greek culture which is referred to
as the time period of Hellenism. Macedonia, in which he was born, fell under the Hellenistic circle.
This being the reason why he was so knowledgeable of Greek culture and made it a part of life in
every land he conquered during his reign. The Greeks disfavored Macedonia as told by Diodorus of
Sicily, but that has not much to do with the fact that Alexander envied the Greek culture. Even though
his vast empire fell apart after his death, his name still lives on as one of, and if not, the greatest
conquer to ever live. His admiration of Greek culture has had an influential impact on the world since
and seeing in which it has is truly remarkable. His advocation of Grecian cultural lifestyle and
civilization has, and will continue to echo around the globe for many years to

Expectancy Violation Theory
Expectancy Violation Theory Introduction Expectancy violations exert significance on people s
interaction patterns, on their impressions of one another, and on the outcomes of their interactions
(Burgoon 1993:40). In other words, Judee Burgoon, founder of the expectancy violation theory,
concluded from various experiments that people evaluate communication with others in a negative or
positive regard, based on their expectation of the interaction and their opinion of the communicator.
When people do not act in accordance with ones expectations, one resorts to evaluating their
communication behavior, be it verbal or non verbal as well as how this behavior makes one feel. The

Candice and I had been friends for about three years before she and my brother started dating. So
obviously when they did start dating, I was very enthusiastic about their relationship. They dated for
about 7 months and even made plans to move to Johannesburg together. This is where I stay so I was
very excited. Unfortunately things did not quite work out as planned. My brother Khalid, moved to
Johannesburg two months before Candice did and in that time he met someone else. Her name is
Nishad. As a result of meeting Nishad, the relationship between him and Candice fell apart. This left
my friend broken hearted. Obviously I was furious about the whole situation and vowed that I would
not pursue any form of a relationship and stick to a maximum of polite conversation with Nishad. So
even before I met her, I decided I did not like her, for the simple reason that she was the reason my
friend Candice was now broken hearted and alone in Johannesburg. When I did finally meet Nishad I
was cold and distant and I almost instantly made up my mind that she was not right for my brother.
This I quickly made clear to both of them with my disapproving looks and unsociable attitude. Nishad
is a very loud outgoing person so even though I was cold and distant, this did not stop her from trying
to get closer to me and in a way forced me to converse with her on numerous occasions which made
me very uncomfortable and even angry that

Henry And Edsel The Creation Of The Ford Empire Summary
Sterling Ransom
History 17B
Professor Lupo
Bak, Richard. Henry and Edsel: The Creation of the Ford Empire, New Jersey: John Wiley Sons, 2003
The year 1847 can be said to mark the true hardscrabble beginnings of the Henry Ford story. Bak tells
the story of Henry and Edsel Ford and how the Ford Empire was created. Bak talks about how Henry
wanted to build an automobile that Americans would want to buy that was durable, stabile, and
reliable.
In the early life of Henry he left his family s farm to go work in a factory as an apprentice with the
Michigan Car Company when he was seventeen years old. His father William Ford wasn t happy with
his son decision to leave the farm, but he thought it would be good for Henry to see the life in the
dirty, hectic confines of the city. Pg(10) After three years in the city Henry returned to the farm but
took a job working on steam engines for trains, later on Henry would get the same concept to make
the Model T car. Henry Ford was hired as an engineer with the Edison Illuminating Company in 1891.
He knew that in order to create a road vehicle, which was his goal he needed to understand the nascent
science of electricity. On November 6, 1893 Henry and his wife Clara had a child ... Show more

Trying to convert wagons and carriages into a car body and fitting an engine of some type into it was
just the start of the battle. Henry cared nothing about being first in the burgeoning automobile game.
He was willing to take his time to create the most practical car. After being promoted to chief
engineer, he had more time to work on making a little gasoline engine out of scrap. These experiments
ended up in 1896 when he completed his self propelled vehicle and named it Ford Quadricycle. On
June 4, he test drove the vehicle several times and came out with various methods to improve the

Why Std Should Be Allowed In Schools
When a child is growing up, they go through many changes. When they go through these changes in
their early life, they expect to be guided or to be helped by their parents. Before the child attend
school, and is introduced to another environment, they have already grown a high sense of
understanding within their parents. This means, they are very comfortable with approaching them with
difficulties he/she face throughout life or even personal information he/she need to be informed about.
This sense of trust, understanding, and security carries with the child all through his/her life. So, even

As in STDs, they teach the children different types of sexually transmitted disease, how they occur,
their symptoms, and the image of the disease. The only problem with that is they do not explain the
chance of risks engaging in sexual activities. They do not provide the students with the fact that one in
four sexually transmitted disease cases diagnosed each year involves teenagers. As for pregnancies,
they do discuss the risk of becoming pregnant. But, they do not discuss what affect a pregnancy at
such a young age could bring. Or even, how much of a life changing situation it is.
On the other hand, many believe sex education should be a high priority in schools. Their beliefs leads
them to think the effectiveness of this material being taught in schools could reduce teen pregnancies,
the rate of STDs, and also would not increase sexual activity. To support, there are more than 135 non
profit organizations whose common goal is to provide sex education to the young. Researchers believe
that the sex education taught in schools could reduce the amount of sex partners, delay student s first
time, and also increase protection by increasing the use of

In Grandview Boulevard, completed in 1974 CE, the artist utilizes painterly brushstrokes. The
shadows of the trees that are painted dark purple appear to have more painterly aspects than the rest of
the composition. From far away, the painting seems smooth and sleek, but up close, the individual
thick brushstrokes can be seen. The implied texture of the leaves in the painting is sturdy and prickly,
and the texture of the yellowed grass appears to be dry and coarse, however, the actual texture of the
painting itself is smooth. The artist also uses both curvilinear and geometric lines. In looking at the
trees in the painting, they are composed of primarily geometric lines (excluding the leafy top) that run

The tree on the bottom right of the painting demonstrates modeling, which is the contrast between
light and shadow in a work. The shading on the left side of the tree is darker than the right side of the
tree. The tree s local color (true color) is a light tan (bark of the tree) in comparison to its perceptual
color (implied), which is a darker gray/brown. The painting demonstrates diminution of scale, for the
long palm trees at the top of the composition appear smaller than the long palm trees placed lower on
the page. Not only does the artist use diminution of scale, but they also use vertical location. The
bushier palm trees n the back left side of the composition all appear to be the same size, but because
some are placed higher on the page, they appear to be further away than the ones placed lower on the
page. The artist use of overlapping helps achieve perception of depth. By overlapping the trees it
makes it look like the painting has much more depth. Because of all of this, the painting portrays deep
depth, not only because of the multiple overlapping and diminution of scale, but also because of the
multiple horizon lines, causing the painting to look like the road goes on over the hills. This painting
is a narrative, and its focal point is down the road. As the roads begin large and gets smaller, the eyes
follow the road until it ends. The artist uses both thick and thin lines in

Information Security And The Security Essay
While information security has many benefits in our technologically advancing environment, it also
comes with its own set of issues. Three of the top issues in keeping information secure are lack of
awareness, complacency, and no root cause analysis. Even more recently, we have experienced issues
with information security and allegations of election hacking.
Some of our biggest challenges come with keeping information secure in the business world. Auburn
University researchers teamed up with the International Information Systems Security Certificate
Consortium to identify and rank the top information and security issues. Using a worldwide sample of
874 certified information system security specialists, they ranked a list of top 25 information security
issues based on which ones were most critical facing organizations today. These 25 issues were: 1.)
Top management support 2.) User awareness training and education 3.) Malware 4.) Patch
management 5.) Vulnerability and risk management 6.) Policy related issues 7.) Organizational culture
8.) Access control and identity management 9.) Internal threats 10.) Business continuity and disaster
preparation 11.) Low funding and inadequate budgets 12.) Protection of privileged information 13.)
Network security architecture 14.) Security training for IT staff 15.) Justifying security expenditures

The Properties of Hydrostatics
Three containers are filled with water to the same height and have the same surface area at the base:
hence the water pressure and total force on the base of each is the same. Yet the total weight of the
water is different for each. Explain this hydrostatic paradox
The key to this problem is that the force on a container due to the hydrostatic pressure is always
perpendicular to the surface of the water. According to Newton s 3rd law, the container will push back
on the water in the exact opposite direction, also perpendicular to the surface of the container
Consider what happens when you push both a pin and the blunt end of a pen against your skin with the
same force. Decide what determines whether your skin is cut. The net force ... Show more content on

Will an empty balloon have precisely the same apparent weight on a scale as a balloon filled with air?
Explain.
If air is incompressible, then yes.The full balloon will have more weight (more downward force), due
to the mass of the air in the balloon. The full balloon will also have an upward buoyant force on it,
equal to the weight of the air displaced by the balloon. Since the balloon is both containing air and
floating in air, the weight of the air inside the balloon is the same magnitude as the buoyant force.
Filled balloon has a higher apparent density compared to empty balloon.
IF you dangle 2 pieces of paper vertically a few inches apart and blow between then, how do you
think the papers will move?
The papers will move toward each other. Bernoulli s principle says that as the speed of the gas flow
increases, the pressure decreases (when there is no appreciable change in height). So as the air passes
between the papers, the air pressure between the papers is lowered. The air pressure on the outside of
the papers is then greater than that between the papers, and so the papers are pushed together.
Children are told to avoid standing too close to a rapidly moving train because they might get sucked
in under it. Is this possible? Explain.
It is possible. Due to viscosity, some of the air near the train will be pulled along at a speed
approximately that of the train. By Bernoulli s principle, that air will be at a lower pressure than air

David Oliver Relin s Three Cups Of Tea
Three Cups of Tea starts with a short introduction by one of the authors, David Oliver Relin, about
Greg Mortenson. David tells a story about how Greg Mortenson helped a retired army helicopter pilot
find the fuel refill spot. David uses this story to lead into saying how amazing Greg Mortenson is and
what an incredible experience he got from working with Greg.
The novel starts with how Greg Mortenson first found Korphe, a Balti village in Pakistan. Mortenson
was trying to climb K2 (so that he could create a small memorial for his sister, Christa, who had died
from a seizure the year before) but after an incident near the summit he had to climb down. He got lost

$12,000 at the beginning of the project, and returned to Pakistan to build the bridge.
The rainy season cause a small set back in the building of the bridge but it was finished soon after.
Mortenson gets invited to an American Himalayan Foundation dinner where he meets his hero, Sir
Edmund Hillary. At the dinner, Hoerni and McCown (an American business man interested in
Mortenson s project) offer to support him financially for a year. Mortenson also gets to meet Tara
Bishop at the dinner. Tara and Mortenson get married six days later.
When Mortenson returns to Korphe to find at least ⅓ of the materials for the school and bridge

How Significant Was The Role Of Modern Italy During The...
How significant was the role of individuals in the making of modern Italy in the period c1800 1900?
The making of modern Italy undoubtedly did not come easily, since the Italian peninsula was so
diverse politically and culturally into many individual and independent states; which were dominated
by foreign powers. Unification did not happen due to a single factor, but it took over half a century for
several factors to finally unite Italy, even if it was for name sake only. It is fairly accurate to say that
foreign power is a dominating factor which had pushed for changes for the making of modern Italy,
and that some factors held a greater significance than others and therefore leaving a bigger impact.
However if it weren t the contributions of all these factors, then the struggle of achieving unification
would seem far off.
Ed Beavington believed that the importance of nationalism in the unification of Italy in his article
states that in terms of effective role in the creation of the kingdom of Italy, it was overshadowed by the
role of foreign intervention. Furthermore, he comes to conclude that the succession of unification in
Italy was united from above (North Italy), not below. This supports the argument that foreign power is
a dominating factor and its importance can be seen throughout this entire process up to post 1870.
Alternatively, Ed Beavington had also argued that Italian national consciousness was almost non
existent before Napoleons Bonaparte invasion of the

  • 2. Analysis Of Walt Whitman s Song Of Myself Walt Whitman s Song of Myself helps inspire my body and soul, activates my mind, and encourages individual discovery for the sake of creating a better world for all to live in. It also acts as a form of instruction for becoming an American in ideal and in action. Through his free form verse and tone that reflects more of a wizened and rosy cheeked grandfather than controversial poet, Whitman s writing acts as a refreshing breath to all, including myself, that are searching for an empathetic peace of mind. I celebrate myself, and sing myself,/ And what I assume you shall assume,/ For every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you./ , Whitman begins, inviting the reader to a conversation by the fireside, as we are equal in spirit, matter, and creation, which should obviously be celebrated and shared. Whitman provides a view of the world around him in which every action, person, object, and event is held as a miracle. He harkens back to Emersonian ideals of the divine being a part of all, reflecting, I hear and behold God in every object, yet understand God not in the least, and further on, I see something of God each hour of the twenty four, and each moment then . This challenges me to open my mind to a worldview not limited to my own origin or upbringing, but to view the world with a universal love and positive connection. This includes looking onto traditionally repulsive concepts, including body odor, the butcher shedding his clothes, and a prostitute stricken with pox, as signs of the divine. Pages are dedicated to describing the sights he assigns as portions of the song of myself . He, and by extension, me, have a personal connection to the boy that lies awake in the cedar roof d garret and harks to the musical rain , and have just as close a bond to the aforementioned prostitute as her bonnet bobs on her tipsy and pimpled neck . John Paul Jones is as much a part of us as the numberless unknown heroes that have perished without memory. All are equal parts of himself and myself, as every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you. Whitman wrote in a manner to educate every person, and more specifically, every American, on how to embrace each moment and forge a path to understand their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Lna Essay . As you can see replicators played a huge part in creating life. How did replicators lead to the first cell though? If replicators are meant to replicate and reproduce how did they end up making a living organism? The first cell is presumed to have arisen by the enclosure of self replicating RNA in a membrane composed of phospholipids which are the principal components of cell membranes. The process of replication lead to the first cell which is called LUCA (Last Universal Common Ancestor). Many scientist believe that all living things on earth originated from an ancient organism called LUCA. The single celled being likely lived about 4 billion years ago and is thought to have eventually spawned two distinct groups of unicell life, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A lot of the time when a virus come into contact with the host or as we may know it, the cell, it can insert its genetic material into its host, literally taking over the host s functions. Some viruses may remain dormant inside host cells for long periods, causing no obvious change in their host cells, but once stimulated new viruses are formed, self assemble, and burst out of the host cell, killing the cell and going on to infect other cells. All this is just a constant battle between the host and cell. Without a host cell, viruses cannot carry out their life sustaining functions or reproduce. They cannot synthesize proteins, because they lack ribosomes and must use the ribosomes of their host cells to translate viral messenger RNA into viral proteins. Viruses cannot generate or store energy, but have to derive their energy, and all other metabolic functions, from the host cell. Sometimes the virus will not be in the cell but outside functioning as coat for the protein. Viruses cause a number of diseases in humans most commonly heard of ones are, smallpox, the common cold, chickenpox, influenza, shingles, herpes, polio, rabies, ebola, hanta fever, and AIDS are examples of the diseases caused by viruses. Even some types of cancer but not all. As Sun Tzu wrote in The Art of War, All warfare is based on deception . He could have easily been describing the ancient battle between virus and host ... Unit 13: Physiology of Fluid Balance In this assignment I will be describing the microstructure of a typical animal cell and the functions of the main cell components. Describing and explaining the factors the ways in which materials move in and out of cells. I will also be analysing the role of the phospholipid bilayer in terms of movement of materials in and out of cells. Lysosomes Lysosomes act as the digestive system of the cell. They are found in all parts of the cell. There are very powerful enzymes within lysosomes. Cytoplasm Cytoplasm is the gel like substance within the cell and outside the nucleus. Chemical reactions are carried out in the cytoplasm. Nucleus The nucleus is the largest organelle in the cell. It acts as the control system for almost all the activities of the cell. It stores the cell s hereditary material, or DNA Mitochondria Spherical bodies in the cytoplasm where energy is produced. The cell uses this energy to perform the specific work necessary for cell survival and function. Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) Endoplasmic reticulum is a branching network that fills the cell interior. There two types of ER: Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER) Synthesis of lipid, glycogen and steroids (e.g. cholesterol and testosterone). Rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) They are called because of the presence of ribosomes on them. They provide a site for protein synthesis and helps transport protein. • 5. Taking a Look at the Aswan Dam Assignment #2 The Aswan dam was constructed as a direct response to the rapid population growth within Egypt during that time. With a population of 26 million by the time construction began on the dam, the government of Egypt was worried about food and energy demands. The dams original thought was to provide power and expand available water supplies outside of the flooding season to allow for higher agricultural yields. The construction of the dam also thought to carry some secondary effect with it, such as additional fishing grounds and channels for navigation. It was believed that the additional energy production would also drive down the price of electricity, making it more affordable. A major aspect of the dam project was the reservoir to hold the floodwaters and control the release rate. However, the creation of the reservoir flooded a large upper land area requiring the relocation of over 50,000 Nubian residents. The relocating of residents because of dam construction is fairly common, as over ten million residents of China of had to relocate as a result of dams, 1.5 million for the three gorges dam alone. The relocation of the Nubians did have a positive effect over time as their infectious disease rate dropped. Although the relocation did leave them unhappy as they were moved further into the desert. The reservoir also negatively impacted archaeological sites in the area, as they were flooded over. The reservoir it self was predicted by some scientists that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Balancing The Federal Budget Process Group Project Joint Paper: Balancing the Federal Budget Luis A. Santiago Gaetan, Abby Baumann, and Erin Kirchner University of Massachusetts Amherst Introduction This is Red Team s joint paper on balancing the budget of the government of the United States of America. Red Team s (from here on we/our) position regarding balancing the budget and reducing the federal deficit varies slightly. In many ways some team members believe that the federal budget is much like any other budget, with a set amount of money coming in, a set of expenditures that are mandatory , and the choice to save any money left over for emergencies, or spend it on those things that aren t mandatory. Some team members also believe that increasing taxes or cutting spending alone will not effectively reduce the deficit and balance the federal budget. However, the federal budget process is a complex one. How, where and when does the federal budget process originate? The first step in the Federal budget process as required by law is the President s Budget Request, initiated every February. The purpose of this budget request is to allow the President to make recommendations pertaining to how much money the federal government needs to operate successfully, how much money the government needs to collect, in the form of tax revenue, and how much of a budget surplus or deficit the budget will have for the following fiscal year. The second step in the budget process is the Congressional Budget Resolution, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Being A Sixth Grade Mean Girl On Being a Sixth Grade Mean Girl Squeals pierce my eardrums as little girls talk about loving their boyfriends. The overbearing scent of Axe radiates off of every arrogant schoolboy who gallivants across the grounds and stops at my locker. Gossip flutters around me, seducing me into its inescapable vice. Such was Memorial Middle School when I first debuted in August, 2011. Going into sixth grade, I was the most popular girl in school. Although I may have had ebony hair and bubblegum lips, there was no hiding the ugliness of who I was: the meanest girl in school. I hadn t always been that girl; for two years I was the opposite, a victim of excruciating cruelty. In third grade, I was placed into the Enrichment program, a group of five ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I loved to read, so I was a nerd; I used words they couldn t understand, so I was a freak. Soon enough, I started to believe them; by the conclusion of fourth grade, I felt worthless. When I learned that I would be transferring schools, I saw redemption. That summer, I exchanged novels for magazines; I went on extreme diets to lose weight as if cutting pounds could cut the memories of abuse from my head. Going into fifth grade, I found myself googling How to be Normal in an attempt to abandon my identity; fifteen pounds and a miniskirt later, I had all but done so. By maintaining a facade of normalcy , I became instantly popular, and I gained influence that I had never thought possible. Girls looked to me for advice on everything from boys to hairstyles, and I reveled in my superiority . Thus, when sixth grade arrived, I was a bully; I became the people who had tormented me. I was deliberately vicious, ridiculing anyone who didn t fit the impossible standard I used to hide my insecurities. I slashed people down and used their broken pieces to repair myself. The girl I had been seemed permanently lost to the monster I had become until Julia. Julia was everything I secretly longed to be: beautiful, brilliant, and unapologetically compassionate. She was my first friend in Mentor, but I rapidly abandoned her upon realizing that she was unpopular . That is where our contact ended; simply ignoring her meant that no harm came to ... As a woman grows up, she creates her dreams of being a mother, strong bond, and attachment to this world; she naturally belongs to this hood. Motherhood then becomes waking up in the middle of the night to make sure that her child is well tucked in and to give her full attention, care, and love to a child. It is a harsh world, tiredness and exhaustion sometimes. Through the endless journey, she consumes her real, metal and emotional power and energy for the sake of her own children s comfort and happiness. Strangely, if asking any mother about her life as a mother? She would happily say that being a mom is the most satisfying feeling she has ever had. Most important chore in motherhood trip is to teach a child to grow up, as nothing equals the happiness of a mother when finally, she knows that she raised a successful human being. When my mother and I were on the plane, I thought to myself that when we arrived in Hawaii and finally, our family was all together everything would go back to normal. I was mistaken. This was a immense and crucial changing point in my life. Originally from Arizona, I was a negligent student. Concealing my homework from my parents and fibbing that I completed the work. Thinking I was clever, but the consequences were C s and D s. Abruptly, when I arrived in Hawaii my work ethic started to transform. • 10. Public Safety Outweigh Petitioner s First Amendment Right C. The interest of public safety outweighs Petitioner s First Amendment right to record. Petitioner s recording posed an unreasonable risk to bystanders, passing motorist, and the police, essentially creating an inherently dangerous situation. Kelly v. Borough of Carlisle, 622 F.3d 248, 262 (3d Cir. 2010). The Third Circuit has firmly recognized that traffic stops are especially fraught with danger to police officers. Id. A traffic stop always poses danger because of its unpredictable nature, but even more so, when a potential suspect is on the loose. Petitioner was a suspect for a crime of several residential break ins, which a reasonable office would assume is armed and dangerous; thus creating a heightened risk to the officers safety. Furthermore, the Petitioner was stopped on the side of a road congested with traffic. If the officers do not maintain control of the situation, any unpredictable movement could result in grave injury; therefore, the police officers acted reasonably by minimizing the unnecessary danger added by Petitioner s recording during an already dangerous situation. D. Petitioner s recording is not a matter of public interest that carried any expressive or communicative purpose. The encounter Petitioner recorded is not a matter of public interest. Although there is a broad First Amendment right to film matters of public interest, the extend of that right to film public officials have not been explicitly defined by the Supreme Court or any other ... But one of them stood out from the rest. Florence Kelley wasn t as pressing as other activists, yet she was just as effective. Kelley states, Tonight while we sleep, several thousand little girls will be working in textile mills... while we sleep little white girls will be working... And they will do so tonight, while we sleep. The repetition creates a strong sense of guilt. She is saying that while we sleep these children are working in unfair conditions for unfair wages and we do nothing about it, well nothing except sleep. With this weighing on their consciences, the audience is much more likely to take action against this evil. But the guilt trip doesn t end there. She goes on to say, The children make our shoes... our stockings. Our knitted underwear... and our cotton underwear. This again puts some of the blame on audience. By repeating the word out Kelley is essentially pointing out that even though the audience may not be directly responsible, the fact that these kids work is almost a sin of omission. Without people to talk for them, how will they ever escape this vicious cycle of unfair work and conditions? This is the exact thought that Kelley is trying to invoke by her use of repetition. As producers of more than half the world s cocoa beans, the Western African countries of Ghana and the Ivory Coast are in constant need of laborers, often calling on a younger population to replenish their supply. In fact, more than 1.8 million (or thirty percent of) Sub Saharan African children under the age of fifteen are laborers, mainly in agricultural fields like cocoa farming. While this percentage seems shockingly high, the most disturbing truth is that over twelve thousand of these children many of them as young as eleven are sold to cocoa farm owners as slaves. Not only are they stolen from their families and stripped of their education and health; they are also subjected to countless hours of brutal work and physical abuse. What they get in return is another unit of cocoa beans to harvest, a tedious and dangerous task that can result in grave injury. From early settlement, rights over the river have been debated and reassigned to different states in the upper and lower basin; however, all the distribution patterns lead to excessive consumption of the resource. Over the past 15 years, the Colorado River Basin has experienced declining annual precipitation rates and higher temperatures throughout the year, which has cascade into higher evaporative loads from the soil and reservoirs, longer growing seasons that require more water, earlier melting times, all of which have reduced runoff and water supply [10]. If air is incompressible, then yes.The full balloon will have more weight (more downward force), due to the mass of the air in the balloon. Since the balloon is both containing air and floating in air, the weight of the air inside the balloon is the same magnitude as the buoyant force. • 31. How Significant Was The Role Of Modern Italy During The... How significant was the role of individuals in the making of modern Italy in the period c1800 1900? The making of modern Italy undoubtedly did not come easily, since the Italian peninsula was so diverse politically and culturally into many individual and independent states; which were dominated by foreign powers. Unification did not happen due to a single factor, but it took over half a century for several factors to finally unite Italy, even if it was for name sake only. It is fairly accurate to say that foreign power is a dominating factor which had pushed for changes for the making of modern Italy, and that some factors held a greater significance than others and therefore leaving a bigger impact. However if it weren t the contributions of all these factors, then the struggle of achieving unification would seem far off. Ed Beavington believed that the importance of nationalism in the unification of Italy in his article states that in terms of effective role in the creation of the kingdom of Italy, it was overshadowed by the role of foreign intervention. Furthermore, he comes to conclude that the succession of unification in Italy was united from above (North Italy), not below. This supports the argument that foreign power is a dominating factor and its importance can be seen throughout this entire process up to post 1870.
