Buffalo Bill and Disney Essay
Buffalo Bill and Disney
More than seventy years after Buffalo Bill taught the history of the West to a curious nation,
Disneyland embarked on a strikingly similar course. Relying on creative marketing, star appeal, the
American fascination with all things western, and, most important, an exceedingly glib portrayal of
history, Disneyland in a strange way completed the story that Buffalo Bill started in 1883. Although
the eras, to be sure, were decidedly different, history was delivered in exactly the same way.
The west is an idea that has always fascinated the American people. Buffalo Bill was the first to
understand the salability of this concept with his endearing, albeit distorted road show of the late 19th
and early 20th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In one year alone, 1899, the show covered 11,000 miles in two hundred days, giving 341
performances in 132 cities. The show was enormously successful and profoundly powerful as a
shaping force in the way America saw the west.
The problem, of course, is that the show did more than entertain it also became a sort of travelling
museum and the definitive word on a vital period of America s past. What lessons, exactly, did the
show teach and whose values did the Buffalo Bill show endorse? The program of the show, a website
notes, presented itself as a source of knowledge, authority, and authenticity about the west.
(http://xroads.virginia.edu) This mixing of fantasy with reality, of myth and history, belied the official
sounding nature of the show and its program, not to mention the visual nature of the presentation,
which must have seemed real. The blending of fact and fiction, not surprisingly, carried over to Cody
himself, as many became confused with him and the character of Buffalo Bill. More important to
history, though, the stereotype of the American Indian was reinforced, night after night, as Buffalo Bill
and his cast of nearly 500 actors played out scene after scene where the Indian was nothing more than
a mounted warrior destined to lose to the American individual, taming the frontier, as it were,

I Really Enjoyed Holly Weeks Piece On Stressful Conversations
Intro
I really enjoyed Holly Weeks piece on stressful conversations. It aligns well with my own experience.
Her keen insight has been shared through exploration of three scenarios where the stress gets high
very easily. In each of these three examples the author lets the people in the conversation fail, this is a
thought provoking technique that stimulates introspection. Holly is counting on the reader to
remembers similar experiences that they may have gone through. The author is also provoking us to
examine the large role our subconscious has in our actions when confronted with stressful
conversations. The author provides help in solving these quarrelsome situations by describing the
processes necessary for us to improve the stress of conversation unilaterally.
Know Thyself
Know yourself, this is a common theme in many articles on communication and it is a central point in
this piece. Much of how emotions work into communication is unconscious, they seem to evolve
without our own control. Just as we felt for the characters in the examples the author provided, in
retrospect we can see our own missteps and may wish we could have handled it differently. Holly
Weeks wants us to take a step back and observe that given one type of emotional situation we
probably make the same type of mistakes every time. The author has a good word for it, tactics,
though unlike the tactics deployed consciously when running a war or wining a race, these tactics are
ones the subconscious uses to

How Does Buffy The Vampire Slayer Symbolism
Buffy is a woman known for being strong, smart, and independent. The show, Buffy the Vampire
Slayer, teaches a multitude of life lessons, not to judge a book by its cover and that actions speak
louder than words. Even though Buffy has incredible strength and is seen as an independent woman,
she is still a teenager, within the episode Hush, she symbolizes typical teenage struggles. Near the
beginning of the episode, Buffy is unable to focus during class instead she continuously daydreams.
Buffy daydreaming in class is symbolic to typical high school students. This is symbolic of typical
teenage struggles because teenagers are typically tired during class or may they hit a point where they
become uninterested in the subject being taught so they resort to daydreaming, allowing their mind to
go elsewhere. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But she continuously becomes nervous when it comes down to expressing her feelings to him. While
Riley and Buffy are walking in the school s grotto Riley tries to ask Buffy if she would like to hang
out sometime but she suddenly begins to act strange and awkward towards him, trying to change the
subject. Another encounter occurs on the street at night, even though Buffy cannot talk she still tries to
avoid showing her true feelings towards Riley until he kisses her. Then near the end of the episode,
Riley steps into Buffy s dorm room explaining to her that they need to talk about what had happened
the other night. Buffy becomes tongue tied not knowing what to say about that night. Teenagers are
still young, but are still growing mentally and physically so they are reaching the stage in life where
they start to have built up a strong feeling for a certain someone because of their looks or even their

Similarities Between Live Right And Find Happiness By Dave...
Have you ever wondered why people laugh or what makes things funny? It is because of the elements
the authors use in their texts like, irony and satire. There are different types of comedy also, high
comedy and low comedy. In the book, Live Right and Find Happiness by Dave Barry, there is an
article entitled, A Letter to my Grandson , in that article he shows a good example of high comedy. In
Dave Barry s article, A Letter to my Grandson , is a high level comedy that uses sarcasm and
hyperbole to reveal a universal truth about how the little things in life drive people insane and Dave
told his grandson how to handle the situations in comedic ways. In the article, Dave uses the element
of sarcasm, which means . In the text, it says, Many

What Are The Five Errors In Anaconda-A Flawed Joint Planning
What is the worst thing that a force can do before going into battle? The worst thing that a force
cannot do is have improper planning. In the article Anaconda A Flawed Joint Planning there was some
key steps that were missed in the Military Decision Making Process (MDMP). The article describes
five errors that the unit could have avoided by using MDMP. However I am only going to discuss four
out of the five errors and there are as follows: Poor Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield,
Underestimating Airpower Deployment Time, Lack of Tactical Coordination for Close Air Support
and the Lack of Operational and Strategic level Coordination. The first error that occurred was poor
intelligence preparation of the battlefield. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Staff book reviewing available assets and identify resources shortfalls is staffs determine if they have
the assets needed to accomplish all task . (Page 2 13 Battle Staff)The CJTF would have noticed that
the air assets were needed as well as the air planners. Once the air planners would have been involved
in the planning process, they could have rescheduled the date of the air tankers switching. The result
would have been less wounded causalities and certain terrorist leaders possibly killed. The third error
that happened was lack of tactical coordination for close air support. This error occurred because the
lack of air integration capability between ground and air forces. The CJTF did not even have some of
the proper equipment to call in close air support. According to the article an actual kill box was not
generated until four days into the battle. This error could have been avoided if the CJTF would have
complete step 3 of the MDMP process. Under step 3 it discusses generating options. Generating
options is a good Course of Action (COAs) can defeat all feasible enemy COAs while accounting for

Furies In Ancient Greece
The Furies, what are these creatures? And what is there purpose? First I will explain just exactly why
they are a big part of this play, and how it all began. The Furies played a big role in this play, and they
came from a series of events that happened in the beginning of the play, they do not make there
entrance until late in the play, however they were still very important. It all begins as Agamemnon
finally returns to the city of Argos, to which he is the King of. He has been away for so long, fighting
a war in Troy. His wife Clytemnestra awaits his arrival, however we learn that she was not all that

On The Road By Langston Hughes
In Langston Hughes short story On the Road , Sargent, desperate for food and shelter, challenges
social barriers and racial discrimination during his fight for freedom. Sargent is an unemployed black
man during the great depression who faces additional obstacles because of his skin color. While this
period was almost fifty years after the end of the Civil War and the subsequent emancipation of slaves
in the United States, racism was still prevalent across the country. In the South, despite the decline of
organizations like the Klu Klux Klan [,] ... racism was as strong as ever (UVA). Furthermore, the
increased presence of Black Americans in Northern cities...increased tension in the North as well.
With widespread racism, Black Americans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He describes Sargent by the color of his skin rather than as an equal or someone he could help. This
racial tension continues through the second half of Mr. Dorset description where he goes on to express
him as a human piece of night with snow on his face . Hughes again uses this contrast between a black
night and white snow to illustrate how Mr. Dorset focuses entirely on race throughout this interaction.
Because Sargent has a different skin color, Mr. Dorset turns him away without any compassion.
Despite being a holy man , The Reverend tells Sargent to [g]o right on down this street four blocks
and turn to your left, walk up seven and you ll see the Relief Shelter. Mr. Dorset blurts out these very
general instructions without waiting to see if Sargent understood or even heard them before he shut
the door. These instructions are not only vague but also harsh as Sargent has to walk eleven blocks
through the snow before he can even see the Relief Shelter. While it is reasonable for Mr. Dorset to
not offer Sargent food or shelter in his own home, it shows the utter lack of respect when he does not
bother to talk to Sargent in a reasonable manner. When giving directions it is common to include
information such as street names, landmarks, or buildings that give the person a sense they are going
in the right direction, yet Mr. Dorset gives a trite, vague response. It would not harm Mr. Dorset to

Historical Development Of Financial Accounting Theory
To understand the fair value accounting concept, an understanding of the foundation of accounting is
where it is today is needed. This information provides a guideline of how the first conceptual ideas of
accounting first began and changed overtime to accommodate the ever increasing changes with
investment options along with lobbying efforts of individuals. The FASB s Statement of Financial
Accounting Concepts (SFAC) No. 8 indicates that the primary purpose of financial reporting is to
provide financial information about the reporting entity that is useful to present and potential equity
investors, lenders, and other creditors in making decisions about providing resources to the entity

Philadelphia opened the first stock market in 1790 which was later followed by the New York Stock
Exchange in 1792 with Bank of New York being the first list stock. With incomes increasing,
individuals had disposal income to start investing with. As America went west, railroad stocks became
hot commodities which caused investors to invest heavily in. By the 1900 s accounting organizations
started to increase and strive for the recognition of professionalism. During this time, University s
started to offer classes on accounting for individuals looking for a business career in accounting. The
accounting profession s turning point came with the stock market crashed in 1929.
Following this event the Securities and Exchange commission was created to administer various
securities acts and to prescribe accounting principles and reporting practices (Schroeder, et. al, 2014,
p. 6). Subsequently, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) was given the
opportunity to create accounting standards for companies to follow. But dissidence cropped up as
disagreements arose with how members would be selected and the timeframe it took to bring the
potential regulations to the public. By 1973, the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) was
designated as the organization within the private sector for establishing standards of financial
accounting that

Essay on The Power of the Atomic Bomb in Shaping the...
The Power of the Atomic Bomb in Shaping the Post War World
There were few men in Washington who understood the role the atomic bomb could play in ending
World War II and shaping the peace. Military planning focused on two options, conventional bombing
accompanied by a blockade or an invasion of the Japanese home islands. Both options were so
problematic politically and militarily that policymakers who were familiar with the Manhattan Project
found it difficult to oppose the bomb s use. There were also few men who knew the role the bomb
could play in winning the peace. President Harry S. Truman, Secretary of State James F. Byrnes, and
Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson saw the bomb as a way to shape the post war world in the

It had the benefit of speed. Since the Casablanca conference, achieving Japanese surrender as early as
possible following the capitulation of Germany had been the strategic objective in the Pacific.
However, on May 25th, 1945 Truman had stated a new objective of economizing American lives to
the greatest extent possible. The Army plan for invading Kyushu was the most costly option in terms
of lives, but it was the quickest. It was based on a directive to end the war in the Pacific within 12
months of V E Day. Casualty estimates for the first thirty days of operations against Kyushu ranged
from 30,000 to 50, 000. The Army plan was grossly handicapped by its reliance on Soviet entry into
the Pacific War. General Douglas MacArthur considered a Soviet attack in Manchuria a prerequisite
for invasion. Considering the Polish crisis of April 1945 and growing tensions over Soviet behavior in
occupied Europe, Soviet involvement in East Asia was less than desirable. The best recommendation
of the Navy was a plan that offered no reasonable prediction of when Japan would be defeated. The
Army plan for invasion, which the JCS approved over the Navy plan, required Soviet entry into the
war to ensure success. Their entry would allow them to consolidate their Yalta concessions in
Manchuria and possibly allow them to exert influence over China. In addition to this diplomatic
problem, the invasion plan was the more costly in terms of casualties. Truman

Joseph Ellis Founding Brothers
Founding Brothers Founding Brothers is an informative non fiction book written by Joseph J. Ellis.
This book was based on the events that took place after the American Revolution. It discussed about
how the lives and relationship of the founding fathers of this nation influenced and resolved their
differences in opinions in shaping the course of this nation. There was clear explanation in the preface,
The Generation, on the author s part of his main intention in writing this book. His main objective was
to delve into the relationship of the most important historical people of the Revolutionary era like
Jefferson, Madison, Washington, Adams and Hamilton to name a few. Ellis instructed his readers to

This book was written by Ellis to inform the public of what took place after the American s
Revolution to Independence. Ellis wanted to share to the readers that these historical people were
humans too who have had some difficulties with regards to difference in opinions, values and
character. They also got hurt and affected on how people were badly disparaging their character. Take
for example George Washington that was character assassinated by Benjamin Franklin Bache. The
press was so harsh and vile at him and used words that were so mean and cruel. These Founding
Brothers fought with each other but they have learned how to compromise and set aside whatever
opposing ideas they have for the sake of the common good of the nation. This book was well written
by Ellis because it leads the imagination of the readers on what was really going on during the
debates, campaigns, and inner turmoil of these characters as if the reader was on that same scene and

The Characters Of Stapleton And The Joker
One wears a sleek, purple suit, while the other wears a dirty, grey suit. Even though both characters
are wearing a suit, it is necessary to look in between the lines at the diction that the author uses to
build characterization. The man that wears the sleek, purple suit is the Joker from the many
productions in which he existed, and the man that wears the dirty, grey suit is Stapleton, from The
Hound of the Baskervilles. Stapleton and the Joker may be extremely contradistant, but they both
share one affinity, the evilness that rushes through their blood. In their books and movies, Stapleton
and the Joker are the main villains, which makes them very related. By looking at both of the creators

Stapleton does not support the crimes that Stapleton does, so much that she wrote, As you value your
life or your reason, keep away from the moor. (43). The matron was trying to keep Sir Henry
Baskerville away from Baskerville hall, and away from the death that faced him. Stapleton and the
Joker are similar and diverse because of their corresponding heroes. The Joker s opponent is Batman.
He is an immortal being, and usually catches the Joker at the end of whatever the crime is. Also, when
the Joker does a crime, Batman usually knows that the Joker was the one who did it, mostly because
he is such a vicious person. Nonetheless, Stapleton is able to hide in plain sight the fact that he
murdered Sir Charles Baskerville, with his charming appearance. Stapleton was hiding his crimes by
admitting, I had a school, said stapleton. It was in the north country. The work to a man of my
temperament was mechanical and uninteresting, but the privilege of living with youth, of helping to
mould those young minds, and of impressing them with one s own character and ideals was very dear
to me. (103). Stapleton seems so nice and sympathetic, so much that he made a school, so it was hard
for his opponent, Sherlock Holmes, to find out that he, out of all men, was the killer.
Although The Joker and Stapleton are different, their personalities share one main connection, that
they both are surprisingly vain. The Joker thinks highly of himself, as well as his

Historical View of Financial Markets and Financial Institutions
Economics of Money and Banking
Professor E. Todd

Many issues have changed within financial markets and institutions. Many years ago, even BC, there
were banking institutions available. Transactions were very informal in the early years to extremely
formal in the present day. Financial Markets and Institutions have progressed considerably in the last
50 years. More opportunities of different types have evolved and are available for us to become
involved in. Opportunities to invest, save and acquire loans have progressed considerably in financial

Many individuals depend on the sound functioning of our banking system in order to pay bills, save,
invest, and provide for their future. When banks are unable to fulfill their duties to the economy due to
over speculation or poor risk assessment, it is the role of the regulators to step in and right the ship.
Once technology was introduced to the banking world many things changed. Banking and any
transactions related to banking had to be done in person. Along came the telephone, in which allowed
banking to be conducted at home or work. A phone call is what it took to have transaction
implemented. The age of ATM s (Automatic Teller Machines) allowed banking 24 hours a day. Debit
cards and Credit cards allowed us to transfer monies or put things on credit instantly. Next came the
era of online banking and electronic transfers of money, which allows us to take care of many other
transactions instantly. From the 1st day until today the every changing world of banking changes the
way we live and we do business.
Credit unions go back to 1852 in Germany. A credit union is mutual owned by the people who deposit
money into the credit union. Credit unions offer saving, loans, or credit and other financial services.

The rise of Kim Campbell as Canada s first female Prime Minister is considered by many to be that of
a phenomenon. Webster s Dictionary describes a phenomenon as being something of significant or
rare, either fact or event. This can be shown by the rise of Kim Campbell from a local Vancouver
School Board Trustee, to becoming Prime Minister of Canada. Of course, this success was dependent
on her ability and ambition to succeed in what is still considered in contemporary terms as being a
male dominated area of profession. Politics, especially in Canada and the United States has never been

This failure was not due to inability, but instead due to her growing ambition to further her career
possibilities. When she was given the opportunity to succeed in a field of interest, she jumped at the
chance. Afterwards, she lectured at the University of British Columbia and Vancouver Community
College in the area of political science. Because she had only received her Bachelor s degree, she was
unable to receive tenure, and had to frequently change her places of work, and ultimately became tired
of the process. Campbell felt that it was not due to her academics that she did not receive tenure, but
instead that it was due to sexism. In 1980 she entered the world of elected public office as a trustee of
the Vancouver School Board, serving as its Chairperson in 1983 and Vice Chairperson in 1984, while
completing her law degree at the University of British Columbia. After an early run for the Social
Credit party in the provincial election of 1983 she worked in the office of Premier Bill Bennett before
running again and winning in the 1986 provincial election. While a member of the British Columbian

(AGG) As Stephen King once said, Fiction is the truth inside the lie . (BS 1) In the novel, Under the

In the lecture The Stuff of Thought, Steven Pinker, a renowned anthropologist talked about different
aspects of language. He started out by describing space in language which states how people uses
words such as, on, over, under, and so forth instead of right, left, and so forth. Moreover, he states that
people uses dimensions and width to describe objects. For example, a line is described as one
dimensional object versus a surface that is described as two dimensional space. There are various

Pinker explains that swearing is used as a weapon in order to create negative emotions for the
listeners. Swear words are different across cultures. A taboo word in one country may not be taboo in
a different country. Pinker provided explanations for people wanting to create negative emotions with
each other using swear words (e.g. making a strong point to force the listeners to understand certain
things, letting off steam, etc.). He distinguished between various types of swearing styles in the video.
Moreover, Pinker described indirect speech acts and explained how people try to give hints to each
other by saying something else instead of directly saying what they want to say. According to Pinker,
language is a good way to gain mutual understanding between people whether it is direct or indirect.
Relationships are built better when indirect languages are used because indirect language prevents
legal issues.

Feudalism In Romantic Poetry
A dictum from Heraclitus may illustrate the origin of romantic poetry, when we are awake we have a
world in common, but when we are asleep each has his own world (Quoted by O Connell 35). As
conceived from the innermost being, romantic poems have a close relationship with dream. However,
as the definitions and characteristics are controversial, some critics oppose to use the term
Romanticism . For instance, Arthur Lovejoy criticizes that Romanticism is an obscure norm when
defined by associating the nature and emotion as even Plato can be regarded as a pioneer in romantic
poetry according to this definition (Lovejoy 230). However, romantic poetry cannot be defined with a
linguistic entitle without considering the historical process (Wellek 2) for it appeared in a specific
period after the revolution in France and the Enlightenment, when the awareness of rationalism started
to spreed. Romantic poetry is a genre which is used by poets to transcend ... Show more content on

As the revolution in France altered the thoughts of poets, they initiated to use poems to resist the
unequal society. For example, leaves with cold tone are depicted in the poem Ode to the West Wind as
a representation for feudalism, which has been dying (Shelley Stanza.2), decaying (Stanza.2), and
quivering (Stanza.3), while the fierce wind accompanying with rain awakens the Mediterranean and
will drive the leaves away, implying the awareness of liberty has formed and revolutions are

will be replaced, arousing enthusiasm within the people. In this poem, substances in the nature are
applied to be symbols in order to attack the feudalism and praise the willing for liberty. Thus,
symbolism is applied in romantic poems to analyze the humanity and scorn the

The Silkwood Movie Essay
Summary The Silkwood Movie is about a nuclear facility, and the lives of three people who worked
there. This movie is based off a true story, about the conditions and safety concerns for the nuclear
plants, back when the research was still lacking. The main problems in the movie, is when it came to
the health of the workers from the chemicals let off from the nuclear plant. The three main characters
are: Karen Silkwood (the main character), Drew Stevens (the boyfriend), and Dolly Pelliker (the
roommate). All of these characters worked in the nuclear plant and were exposed to the plants poor
safety conditions. Being exposed to the plutonium caused the main character Karen Silkwood, to raise
awareness of the health concerns to the workers, from the exposure of plutonium. In an article by,
Live Science, plutonium is explained as a radioactive silver metal, that is a byproduct of the nuclear
power industry ( sjkdfkljshd). Plutonium has also been linked to causing cancer in people who were
exposed to high levels of the chemical. Karen s main focus was to get the Union on her side, because
many of the workers already knew the health risks and decided to ignore them. Most of the workers
did care about their health, however; they needed the job from working at the nuclear facility. Later
Karen was exposed to high levels of plutonium, but the causes of her death were unknown.

The Challenges Of Colonialism And Imperialism In Nigeria
Imperialism has set our country back half a century. When the British came in in 1910 and colonized
our country, Nigeria, it changed everything. Our education system was negatively affected. Our
country became extremely controversial in a religious aspect. All in all, if the British did not come and
colonize our home, our country would be at a much better place today.
If we were to receive this grant from the UN, it would be more than helpful to our country. Education
would drastically improve if we received the grant. New schools and facilities would be built, more
qualified teachers would be hired, and a better school environment would be established for the safety
of the kids. As a country, our economy has been on a major downfall. In order to help fix this, the
grant is needed to help rebalance the economy. We must empower more entrepreneurs and producers
to create products that the our people need and desire. Finally, the last reason we are in dire need of
these money is to help end corruption. The corruption in our country is our biggest problem. The
corruption has led to significant poverty and an exceptionally low unemployment rate. With the
money we would invest into the government to try and create more transparency with the our people.
Overall, our country is at a place where a grant would be crucial to our future development. We
believe that this grant of money will push this country to a brighter future.

Account for the Failure of Nationalist Movements in...
Account for the general failure of nationalist movements in Southeast Asia in the period 1900 1941.
The failure to achieve political independence of pre war nationalism in Southeast Asia was mainly due
to the interplay of nationalist factors, impact of colonial response and inherent society composition.
Nationalist disunity watered down mass support which was key to success, while colonial rule
hindered the development of nationalism and the nature Southeast Asian society made unification hard
to achieve. Different causes had different level of significance in different countries. Firstly, the
ideological disunity among nationalist manifested through the existence of a myriad of different
movements with diverging aims and methods, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore the SCBA was in fact pro British and even aided Britain in her war effort. In the
Philippines, sincere American concessions such as Filipinization and mass education to equip local
leaders with requisite training for office left the nationalists with little scope to agitate over, resulting
in placid movements like Partido Nacionalista. This showed how colonial concession was a hindrance
to the politicization of movements. Lastly colonial implementation of carrot and stick concurrently
exacerbated the existing divisions between nationalists groups making a unified front impossible. In
Burma the British harshly suppressed the radical pongyis which had the mass mobilization ability but
was benevolent towards the moderate Western educated politicians who were able to achieve
constitutional progress. In Malaya the British emphasized on policies protecting Malay rights in
administration and land, leading to a series of Chinese and Indian movements demanding equal racial
rights such as the SCBA and CIAM. This divide and rule policy ruled out the possibility of a
combination of mass support and political capability which will then challenge the colonial
government. In addition, the very nature of Southeast Asian society was that it is deeply divided along

The European Union s Core Foundation
The European Union s core foundation began in the 1950 s, when the Treaty of Rome was signed.
Decades earlier, right after the Second World War, a movement was created to unite the countries of
Germany and France. The EU has, for some time, been a major player in world politics and with
twenty eight member states the EU has had its fair share of complications throughout the years.
Foreign policy began to take place early on as the EU was seen as a political system that was making
decisions on behalf 28 countries. In the 1970s Henry Kissinger, the United States Secretary of State
for President Richard Nixon and President Gerald Ford, brought up the question of If I want to call
Europe, who do I call? This began a long and stressful debate of who is the official that needs to be
called when other foreign actors and institutions want to address a problem or simply ask a question to
the European Union. After many years European leaders claimed to have answered Henry Kissinger s
question by creating the European Council President and a European Foreign Minister position. But is
it as simple as that? Has this question really been resolved by just creating these positions? We can see
that reorganizing the Union s political structure has strengthened the EU, it has allowed them to show
foreign leaders a more united front and show that they, too, have global interests. In order to
understand if this question has truly been answered we need to learn a little bit more about the

Summary Of The Laughing Heart And The Journey
Life is full of decision making, and many obstacles that will come in your way to try and stop your
path and prevent you from achieving what you must achieve. In the poems A Laughing Heart, by
Charles Bukowski, and The Journey, by Mary Oliver, the authors both meet at describing what life is
like and how to live life like the fullest, even though there will be things to stop you, and you may stop
yourself. Both of these poems point out that you have to be the main character in your life, you have
to beat everybody or every obstacle that will trouble you, you must overcome it to achieve the highest
points of your life. In The Laughing Heart, the author says and the more often you learn to do it, the
more light there will be. (14, 15). Charles Bukowski is saying that if you learn to successfully
overcome your obstacles, your life will continually get better because there are less problems to face.
A similar line in The Journey, is ...as you left their voices behind,/ the stars began to burn through the
sheets of clouds,/ and there was a new voice which you slowly recognized as your own, (24 29). The
author is saying that as you started to seize opportunity, solve problems and face challenges in your
life, you became stronger, and you became the main character in your life. The theme of these two
poems is that your life is your life, and even though you will have to overcome obstacles and face
challenges, you must be the main character in your life to live your

Essay on Ap Bio Plants
1.)
Roots support photosynthesis and respiration by absorbing minerals and water and by storing organic
nutrients. They also anchor the plant. Some roots have mycorrhizae, which increase the surface area
and therefore increase the absorption. The endodermis, which is the innermost layer of cells in the root
cortex, surrounds the vascular cylinder. It is the passage of minerals from the cortex into the vascular
tissue.
The stem has a system of nodes where leaves are attached. They have a waxy coating (epidermis) that
prevents water loss. The stem and the roots are the 2 main axes in a vascular plant. Fluids are
transported between the roots and the shoots through the stem by the phloem and xylem.

They have vascular tissues for long distance transport like the xylem and phloem. Additionally there is
a way for plants to reproduce without requiring water. Another reason is secondary growth with the
vascular cambium. The stem or root will grow in diameter and will be thickened, reducing water loss
and protecting the surface more fully. The different plant tissues (dermal tissues, vascular tissue and
ground tissues) are adoptions as well.
4.)
Water flows from high water potential to low water potential. They have three routes for that: the
transmembrane route (out of one cell, across a cell wall and into another cell), the symplastic route
(via the continuum of cytosol) and the apoplastic route (via cell walls and extracellular spaces). Roots
are another way for water uptake and transport (example: mycorrhizae and endodermis). This
transport is regulated by the compartmental structure of plants. The concept of transpiration is made
possible through adhesion and cohesion.
5.)
The plant is required to be able to work at the molecular level, because (as only of many examples) it
needs sucrose. Proton pumping and the cotransport of sucrose and H+ are two of the ways for a plant
to get its required amounts of sucrose. The plant is also in need of nitrogen for its organic synthesis. It
can acquire that by nitrogen fixing bacteria that convert atmospheric N2 to nitrogenous minerals.

Conservatives of Texas and Texas Parent PAC . 2 Young Conservatives of Texas is the organization
which is dedicated to the preservation of individual liberties and freedom. It also enables college
students to participate in political process and thus it will support my campaign. 3 Texas Parent PAC is
a bipartisan political action committee for parents, and anyone who supports high quality of education.

concerns towards abortion and health care and it is not related with my campaign objective.
Interest groups provide funding to the candidate which should be utilized properly to run for office.
Different types of means of communication such as newspapers, social sites and official and celebrity

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy For Insomnia

while 10 to 15 percent say they have chronic insomnia (Rivas, Anthony). Many people suffer from
acute to chronic insomnia, an illness which affects the body and mind and often stems from a larger
problem. However, this illness can be cured through pharmaceutical measures, cognitive behavioral
therapy, and/or complementary and alternative medicines. Treatment may vary for each person, so it is

For those who are seeking treatment without the help of sleeping pills, a form of cognitive behavioral
therapy may be the right method for them. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, often called
CBT I, is an approved method for treating insomnia without the use of sleeping pills (Cognitive).
Focusing on the cognitive aspect of insomnia as a treatment solution is much like trying to find the
underlying cause of what is keeping the individual awake at night. This type of therapy involves
regular meetings and follow ups with a doctor who will closely evaluate the person s changing sleep
habits while making changes as needed to fit that person s needs until they get to the point where they
can sleep regularly. Some changes that are recommended by the staff of Mayo Clinic may include
stimulus control therapy or improving the sleep environment. Stimulus control therapy is the act of
training your mind to associate your bedroom with sleeping rather than lying awake or working. It
may be helpful to not lie in bed on the phone or watch T.V at night because those could be distractions
to the mind that are keeping the body awake. Improving the sleeping environment can aid the body to
get in sleep mode . Sleeping could be improved by doing simple tasks such as adjusting the room
temperature, making the room darker, or eliminating noise can also put the mind at ease for a restful
night of sleep (Mayo Clinic Staff). CBT is not a quick cure by any means; however, it can be very
successful and long lasting if a person is able to stick with it. A sleep diary is important in CBT as well
so that the doctor can assess the person s changes and they can see the changes as

The Chrysalids Vs To Kill A Mockingbird Analysis
The Chrysalids vs. To Kill a Mockingbird
Lead Harper Lee s, To Kill a Mockingbird, takes place in Maycomb, Alabama during the 1930 s, when
great depression and racial discrimination was occurring. The novel s protagonist, Jean Louise (Scout)
Finch, experiences the great depression in a town in Alabama, Macomb. The Chrysalids, written by
John Wyndham in late 1940 s, which is set in the future after the devastating global nuclear war. The
novel s protagonist, David Strorm lives in a community of Waknuk, consisting of religious and genetic
fanatics. Waknuk is a community where anything out of a norm is sinful and could even end in a
consequence as serious as death. The main question is, what does Wyndham s and Lee s themes,
superstition, racism, and fear say about today s society? Superstition is seen in many religions and
beliefs that do not accept different races or religions in today s society. This can also be known as
Racism, which is also present in both of these novels. Racism is also seen in today s society at
schools, work, etc... Lastly, Fear is also a major theme in both of these novels, portrayed by several
characters, or societies. All of this can be related back to how the authors show these themes, and what
they say about society everywhere. While Lee s story focusses on the themes directly related to the
society and Wyndham s story adheres closely to its protagonist, they share the key distinction of
warning and criticizing the cruelty of today s society.

My Passion For Musical Theatre
The world is packed full of talented individuals. Every individual has something that can be
considered a talent. Specifically, in musical theatre, talented actors, singers, and dancers are in
abundance. But being talented isn t what makes a successful artist. The industry has created a skewed
vision of success . Many consider a successful artist to be simply talented, but I believe it goes beyond
talent. One s work ethic and character should be equally if not more prioritized than talent. Though
talent is completely necessary, one must realize that as actors, we will encounter a multitude of
contrasting roles, but the role we will play for the rest of our lives is ourself.
I was not the typical musical theatre kid growing up. Even though from a young age I was convinced I
would pursue musical theatre in some degree as an adult, I was not continually involved in dance,
voice and acting classes. Being raised in a family of eight created a financial barrier to be involved in
an abundance of training. My devoted parents, who run a nonprofit marriage ministry, kept me
involved in my passion of theatre as much as possible. It was difficult seeing many of my peers being
involved in numerous classes and productions I longed to be a part of. As I entered high school, I had
a decision to make. I could either let the negativity and comparison to others I was feeling diminish
my passion for musical theatre or I could continually strive towards success to the best of my ability.

Introduction Of Antiviral Drugs
Antiviral Drugs
 Introduction: These are the agents which are used in the treatment and prevention of an infectious
disease caused by certain viruses. They are antimicrobial compounds like antibiotics, antifungal, ant

and other organisms in a way that they lack cell wall and cell membrane. They contain a core of
nucleic acid that may be DNA or RNA, surrounded by the protein coat.
Viruses are obligate intracellular parasites, which means that they cannot grow outside the host cell,

It prevents the entry of the virus by binding to the CCR5 coreceptors, these coreceptors work together
with gp41 to promote the entry of HIV through the plasma membrane of the cell.
2. Integrase Inhibitor for HIV:
Mechanism of Action: The integrase inhibitors are also called Integrase Strand Transfer Inhibitors
(INSTIs). It inhibits the incorporation of viral DNA into the host DNA.
An enzyme called integrase help in the insertion of viral DNA into the host DNA by making a cut in
the host DNA at some points and then inserting the viral DNA into it. This enzyme has active sites
through which it makes a cut in host DNA. The inhibition process occurs when INSTIs attach to the
active sites of the enzyme, preventing the enzyme from making a cut in host DNA, therefore,
inhibiting insertion.
Dolutegravir and Raltegravir: It is an Integrase Inhibitor that works by binding to the active sites of
the enzyme and displaces one end of the DNA strand, making it impossible for the viral DNA to be
integrated into the host DNA.
Antimicrobial Spectrum: These drugs are effective against a wide range of wild type and drug
resistance HIV, including the strains that use CCR5 or CXCR4 coreceptors for entry into the host cell.

Small Round Lenses Research Paper
There is a trick that makes high prescription lenses for nearsighted vision thinner. You can use it to
minimize the lens thickness of even low index lens materials such as standard CR 39 plastic. The trick
is buying small round lenses. The lens curvature of a minus prescription (for nearsightedness) is
concave. That is, the lens is thin at the center and gradually thickens until you reach the edge where it
s thickest. If you made the lens thin at the edge, it would be too thin at the center, which would make
the lens too fragile. Therefore, these lenses have an absolute minimum thickness at the center to
ensure its strength. This means that large lenses with a high minus prescription can have very thick
edges. The lower the lens material ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
High index lenses are compatible with a huge number of frame styles, which allows you to wear
glasses you feel good about. A large selection is necessary to find a frame style that works best with
the shape of your face. Not all styles are compatible with all types of faces. This is also true of frames
made for small round lenses. Small round lenses may work for people with angular features because
they soften their appearance. They also work for oval faces because any lens shape works for this type
of face. However, these lenses can make people with round faces look cartoonish, and can look out of
place on people with square faces. If you re physically active, your choice of sport frame styles is
greatly diminished. They Provide Less UV, Glare, and Wind Protection If you spend lots of time
outdoors, your eyes should be protected from ultraviolet. Avoiding UV associated eye problems
require consistent use of glasses or sunglasses that block the sun s UV radiation. Lenses that block UV
are less effective if they don t completely cover the eyes. UV light can enter the eyes by going around
the lenses. In other words, the smaller the lens, the bigger the gap through which UV reaches the eyes.
That s why sun glasses tend to be either large or tend to wrap around the

  • 2. Buffalo Bill and Disney Essay Buffalo Bill and Disney More than seventy years after Buffalo Bill taught the history of the West to a curious nation, Disneyland embarked on a strikingly similar course. Relying on creative marketing, star appeal, the American fascination with all things western, and, most important, an exceedingly glib portrayal of history, Disneyland in a strange way completed the story that Buffalo Bill started in 1883. Although the eras, to be sure, were decidedly different, history was delivered in exactly the same way. The west is an idea that has always fascinated the American people. Buffalo Bill was the first to understand the salability of this concept with his endearing, albeit distorted road show of the late 19th and early 20th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In one year alone, 1899, the show covered 11,000 miles in two hundred days, giving 341 performances in 132 cities. The show was enormously successful and profoundly powerful as a shaping force in the way America saw the west. The problem, of course, is that the show did more than entertain it also became a sort of travelling museum and the definitive word on a vital period of America s past. What lessons, exactly, did the show teach and whose values did the Buffalo Bill show endorse? The program of the show, a website notes, presented itself as a source of knowledge, authority, and authenticity about the west. (http://xroads.virginia.edu) This mixing of fantasy with reality, of myth and history, belied the official sounding nature of the show and its program, not to mention the visual nature of the presentation, which must have seemed real. The blending of fact and fiction, not surprisingly, carried over to Cody himself, as many became confused with him and the character of Buffalo Bill. More important to history, though, the stereotype of the American Indian was reinforced, night after night, as Buffalo Bill and his cast of nearly 500 actors played out scene after scene where the Indian was nothing more than a mounted warrior destined to lose to the American individual, taming the frontier, as it were, ... • 3. I Really Enjoyed Holly Weeks Piece On Stressful Conversations Intro I really enjoyed Holly Weeks piece on stressful conversations. It aligns well with my own experience. Her keen insight has been shared through exploration of three scenarios where the stress gets high very easily. In each of these three examples the author lets the people in the conversation fail, this is a thought provoking technique that stimulates introspection. Holly is counting on the reader to remembers similar experiences that they may have gone through. The author is also provoking us to examine the large role our subconscious has in our actions when confronted with stressful conversations. The author provides help in solving these quarrelsome situations by describing the processes necessary for us to improve the stress of conversation unilaterally. Know Thyself Know yourself, this is a common theme in many articles on communication and it is a central point in this piece. Much of how emotions work into communication is unconscious, they seem to evolve without our own control. Just as we felt for the characters in the examples the author provided, in retrospect we can see our own missteps and may wish we could have handled it differently. Holly Weeks wants us to take a step back and observe that given one type of emotional situation we probably make the same type of mistakes every time. The author has a good word for it, tactics, though unlike the tactics deployed consciously when running a war or wining a race, these tactics are ones the subconscious uses to ... • 4. How Does Buffy The Vampire Slayer Symbolism Buffy is a woman known for being strong, smart, and independent. The show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, teaches a multitude of life lessons, not to judge a book by its cover and that actions speak louder than words. Even though Buffy has incredible strength and is seen as an independent woman, she is still a teenager, within the episode Hush, she symbolizes typical teenage struggles. Near the beginning of the episode, Buffy is unable to focus during class instead she continuously daydreams. Buffy daydreaming in class is symbolic to typical high school students. Then near the end of the episode, Riley steps into Buffy s dorm room explaining to her that they need to talk about what had happened the other night. Buffy becomes tongue tied not knowing what to say about that night. The worst thing that a force cannot do is have improper planning. In the article Anaconda A Flawed Joint Planning there was some key steps that were missed in the Military Decision Making Process (MDMP). The article describes five errors that the unit could have avoided by using MDMP. However I am only going to discuss four out of the five errors and there are as follows: Poor Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield, Underestimating Airpower Deployment Time, Lack of Tactical Coordination for Close Air Support and the Lack of Operational and Strategic level Coordination. The first error that occurred was poor intelligence preparation of the battlefield. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the Battle Staff book reviewing available assets and identify resources shortfalls is staffs determine if they have the assets needed to accomplish all task . (Page 2 13 Battle Staff)The CJTF would have noticed that the air assets were needed as well as the air planners. Once the air planners would have been involved in the planning process, they could have rescheduled the date of the air tankers switching. The result would have been less wounded causalities and certain terrorist leaders possibly killed. The third error that happened was lack of tactical coordination for close air support. This error occurred because the lack of air integration capability between ground and air forces. The CJTF did not even have some of the proper equipment to call in close air support. According to the article an actual kill box was not generated until four days into the battle. This error could have been avoided if the CJTF would have complete step 3 of the MDMP process. Under step 3 it discusses generating options. Generating options is a good Course of Action (COAs) can defeat all feasible enemy COAs while accounting for essential stability tasks. On The Road By Langston Hughes In Langston Hughes short story On the Road , Sargent, desperate for food and shelter, challenges social barriers and racial discrimination during his fight for freedom. Sargent is an unemployed black man during the great depression who faces additional obstacles because of his skin color. While this period was almost fifty years after the end of the Civil War and the subsequent emancipation of slaves in the United States, racism was still prevalent across the country. In the South, despite the decline of organizations like the Klu Klux Klan [,] ... racism was as strong as ever (UVA). This racial tension continues through the second half of Mr. Dorset description where he goes on to express him as a human piece of night with snow on his face . Hughes again uses this contrast between a black night and white snow to illustrate how Mr. Dorset focuses entirely on race throughout this interaction. Because Sargent has a different skin color, Mr. Dorset turns him away without any compassion. Despite being a holy man , The Reverend tells Sargent to [g]o right on down this street four blocks and turn to your left, walk up seven and you ll see the Relief Shelter. Mr. Dorset blurts out these very general instructions without waiting to see if Sargent understood or even heard them before he shut the door. These instructions are not only vague but also harsh as Sargent has to walk eleven blocks through the snow before he can even see the Relief Shelter. While it is reasonable for Mr. Dorset to not offer Sargent food or shelter in his own home, it shows the utter lack of respect when he does not bother to talk to Sargent in a reasonable manner. When giving directions it is common to include information such as street names, landmarks, or buildings that give the person a sense they are going in the right direction, yet Mr. Dorset gives a trite, vague response. This information provides a guideline of how the first conceptual ideas of accounting first began and changed overtime to accommodate the ever increasing changes with investment options along with lobbying efforts of individuals. The FASB s Statement of Financial Accounting Concepts (SFAC) No. 8 indicates that the primary purpose of financial reporting is to provide financial information about the reporting entity that is useful to present and potential equity investors, lenders, and other creditors in making decisions about providing resources to the entity (Schroeder, Clark, Cathey, 2014 p. 184). By the 1900 s accounting organizations started to increase and strive for the recognition of professionalism. During this time, University s started to offer classes on accounting for individuals looking for a business career in accounting. The accounting profession s turning point came with the stock market crashed in 1929. Following this event the Securities and Exchange commission was created to administer various securities acts and to prescribe accounting principles and reporting practices (Schroeder, et. al, 2014, p. 6). Subsequently, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) was given the opportunity to create accounting standards for companies to follow. But dissidence cropped up as disagreements arose with how members would be selected and the timeframe it took to bring the potential regulations to the public. Both options were so problematic politically and militarily that policymakers who were familiar with the Manhattan Project found it difficult to oppose the bomb s use. There were also few men who knew the role the bomb could play in winning the peace. President Harry S. Truman, Secretary of State James F. Byrnes, and Secretary of War Henry L. Since the Casablanca conference, achieving Japanese surrender as early as possible following the capitulation of Germany had been the strategic objective in the Pacific. However, on May 25th, 1945 Truman had stated a new objective of economizing American lives to the greatest extent possible. The Army plan for invading Kyushu was the most costly option in terms of lives, but it was the quickest. It was based on a directive to end the war in the Pacific within 12 months of V E Day. Casualty estimates for the first thirty days of operations against Kyushu ranged from 30,000 to 50, 000. The Army plan was grossly handicapped by its reliance on Soviet entry into the Pacific War. General Douglas MacArthur considered a Soviet attack in Manchuria a prerequisite for invasion. Considering the Polish crisis of April 1945 and growing tensions over Soviet behavior in occupied Europe, Soviet involvement in East Asia was less than desirable. The best recommendation of the Navy was a plan that offered no reasonable prediction of when Japan would be defeated. The Army plan for invasion, which the JCS approved over the Navy plan, required Soviet entry into the war to ensure success. Their entry would allow them to consolidate their Yalta concessions in Manchuria and possibly allow them to exert influence over China. In addition to this diplomatic problem, the invasion plan was the more costly in terms of casualties. Truman ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, this illness can be cured through pharmaceutical measures, cognitive behavioral therapy, and/or complementary and alternative medicines. Treatment may vary for each person, so it is important for one to talk with a doctor about what may work best for them. Insomnia comes in two types, onset and maintenance. For those who are seeking treatment without the help of sleeping pills, a form of cognitive behavioral therapy may be the right method for them. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, often called CBT I, is an approved method for treating insomnia without the use of sleeping pills (Cognitive). Focusing on the cognitive aspect of insomnia as a treatment solution is much like trying to find the underlying cause of what is keeping the individual awake at night. This type of therapy involves regular meetings and follow ups with a doctor who will closely evaluate the person s changing sleep habits while making changes as needed to fit that person s needs until they get to the point where they can sleep regularly. Some changes that are recommended by the staff of Mayo Clinic may include stimulus control therapy or improving the sleep environment. Stimulus control therapy is the act of training your mind to associate your bedroom with sleeping rather than lying awake or working. It may be helpful to not lie in bed on the phone or watch T.V at night because those could be distractions to the mind that are keeping the body awake. Improving the sleeping environment can aid the body to get in sleep mode . Sleeping could be improved by doing simple tasks such as adjusting the room temperature, making the room darker, or eliminating noise can also put the mind at ease for a restful night of sleep (Mayo Clinic Staff). CBT is not a quick cure by any means; however, it can be very successful and long lasting if a person is able to stick with it. The Chrysalids Vs To Kill A Mockingbird Analysis The Chrysalids vs. To Kill a Mockingbird Lead Harper Lee s, To Kill a Mockingbird, takes place in Maycomb, Alabama during the 1930 s, when great depression and racial discrimination was occurring. The novel s protagonist, Jean Louise (Scout) Finch, experiences the great depression in a town in Alabama, Macomb. The Chrysalids, written by John Wyndham in late 1940 s, which is set in the future after the devastating global nuclear war. The novel s protagonist, David Strorm lives in a community of Waknuk, consisting of religious and genetic fanatics. Waknuk is a community where anything out of a norm is sinful and could even end in a consequence as serious as death. The main question is, what does Wyndham s and Lee s themes, superstition, racism, and fear say about today s society? Superstition is seen in many religions and beliefs that do not accept different races or religions in today s society. This can also be known as Racism, which is also present in both of these novels. Racism is also seen in today s society at schools, work, etc... Lastly, Fear is also a major theme in both of these novels, portrayed by several characters, or societies. All of this can be related back to how the authors show these themes, and what they say about society everywhere. While Lee s story focusses on the themes directly related to the society and Wyndham s story adheres closely to its protagonist, they share the key distinction of warning and criticizing the cruelty of today s society. ... • 34. My Passion For Musical Theatre The world is packed full of talented individuals. Every individual has something that can be considered a talent. Specifically, in musical theatre, talented actors, singers, and dancers are in abundance. But being talented isn t what makes a successful artist. The industry has created a skewed vision of success . Many consider a successful artist to be simply talented, but I believe it goes beyond talent. One s work ethic and character should be equally if not more prioritized than talent. Though talent is completely necessary, one must realize that as actors, we will encounter a multitude of contrasting roles, but the role we will play for the rest of our lives is ourself. I was not the typical musical theatre kid growing up. Even though from a young age I was convinced I would pursue musical theatre in some degree as an adult, I was not continually involved in dance, voice and acting classes. Being raised in a family of eight created a financial barrier to be involved in an abundance of training. My devoted parents, who run a nonprofit marriage ministry, kept me involved in my passion of theatre as much as possible. It was difficult seeing many of my peers being involved in numerous classes and productions I longed to be a part of. As I entered high school, I had a decision to make. I could either let the negativity and comparison to others I was feeling diminish my passion for musical theatre or I could continually strive towards success to the best of my ability. I ... • 35. Introduction Of Antiviral Drugs Antiviral Drugs  Introduction: These are the agents which are used in the treatment and prevention of an infectious disease caused by certain viruses. They are antimicrobial compounds like antibiotics, antifungal, ant parasitic, etc., but they have their own different mode of action because viruses differ from bacteria and other organisms in a way that they lack cell wall and cell membrane. They contain a core of nucleic acid that may be DNA or RNA, surrounded by the protein coat. Viruses are obligate intracellular parasites, which means that they cannot grow outside the host cell, they always require a host cell for their multiplication. They use the host machinery for its multiplication. They can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It prevents the entry of the virus by binding to the CCR5 coreceptors, these coreceptors work together with gp41 to promote the entry of HIV through the plasma membrane of the cell. 2. Integrase Inhibitor for HIV: Mechanism of Action: The integrase inhibitors are also called Integrase Strand Transfer Inhibitors (INSTIs). It inhibits the incorporation of viral DNA into the host DNA. An enzyme called integrase help in the insertion of viral DNA into the host DNA by making a cut in the host DNA at some points and then inserting the viral DNA into it. This enzyme has active sites through which it makes a cut in host DNA. The inhibition process occurs when INSTIs attach to the active sites of the enzyme, preventing the enzyme from making a cut in host DNA, therefore, inhibiting insertion. Dolutegravir and Raltegravir: It is an Integrase Inhibitor that works by binding to the active sites of the enzyme and displaces one end of the DNA strand, making it impossible for the viral DNA to be integrated into the host DNA. Antimicrobial Spectrum: These drugs are effective against a wide range of wild type and drug resistance HIV, including the strains that use CCR5 or CXCR4 coreceptors for entry into the host cell. • 36. Small Round Lenses Research Paper There is a trick that makes high prescription lenses for nearsighted vision thinner. You can use it to minimize the lens thickness of even low index lens materials such as standard CR 39 plastic. The trick is buying small round lenses. The lens curvature of a minus prescription (for nearsightedness) is concave. That is, the lens is thin at the center and gradually thickens until you reach the edge where it s thickest. If you made the lens thin at the edge, it would be too thin at the center, which would make the lens too fragile. Therefore, these lenses have an absolute minimum thickness at the center to ensure its strength. This means that large lenses with a high minus prescription can have very thick edges. The lower the lens material ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... High index lenses are compatible with a huge number of frame styles, which allows you to wear glasses you feel good about. A large selection is necessary to find a frame style that works best with the shape of your face. Not all styles are compatible with all types of faces. This is also true of frames made for small round lenses. Small round lenses may work for people with angular features because they soften their appearance. They also work for oval faces because any lens shape works for this type of face. However, these lenses can make people with round faces look cartoonish, and can look out of place on people with square faces. If you re physically active, your choice of sport frame styles is greatly diminished. They Provide Less UV, Glare, and Wind Protection If you spend lots of time outdoors, your eyes should be protected from ultraviolet. Avoiding UV associated eye problems require consistent use of glasses or sunglasses that block the sun s UV radiation. Lenses that block UV are less effective if they don t completely cover the eyes. UV light can enter the eyes by going around the lenses. In other words, the smaller the lens, the bigger the gap through which UV reaches the eyes. That s why sun glasses tend to be either large or tend to wrap around the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
