Our current study examines juror behaviour towards perpetrators and victims in a criminal trial
setting. Taken into account, are two factors hypothesized to influence the judicial outcome of criminal
trials in Canada and the United States. Primarily, that a juror s level of belief in a just world (BJW)
influences his or her decisions towards both the perpetrator and victim, with those jurors measuring
higher in BJW being more apt to blame the victim for his or her own misfortune. Second, that the
relationship between BJW and the victim blaming behaviour of the juror is mediated by whether the
victim is portrayed as innocent, having done nothing to deserve victimization; or portrayed as non
innocent, having contributed to their own misfortune through careless or immoral behaviour. We
analyzed data for main effects of both BJW and victim type on outcome variables perpetrator
sentencing and victim monetary compensation. Data was further analyzed for possible interaction
effects between BJW and victim type using multiple regression analysis, retaining the continuous

My Life Span Development Class
On February 17, 2016, our Life Span Development class observed the physical, cognitive, and social
development of Asher, a 5.5 month old male. The observation was conducted at Dordt College in
room CL2260 and the infant s parent consented to participate in the live observation. Asher was quite
sick and later saw a doctor, so the findings of this report may not entirely represent Asher s
development.
Asher was 5 weeks along when his mother, Abby, found out she was pregnant. Asher is the third child
and has a 4 year old sister and a 3 year old brother. Abby tried to eat as healthy as she could during her
pregnancy to ensure that Asher would be as healthy as possible. Thus, she avoided lunchmeats,
seafood, and soft cheeses. At 20 weeks, Abby had an ultrasound, in which no structural abnormalities
were found. Since this was her third child, Abby chose not to take part in prenatal counseling. Labor
lasted only about an hour, and Asher was born by Cesarean Delivery like his two siblings. Asher was
born on September 2nd, 2015, weighing 7lbs., 10oz. at a length of 21 inches. These are both above
average for both height and weight of newborns in North America but within two standard deviations
of the average (Santrock, 2014). At 5.5 months, Asher weighs 17 pounds. This is about the normal
weight, for Asher is on pace to triple his birth weight by age one (Santrock, 2014).

The movie Hoosiers was a great example of how success can be found through teamwork and

learned in our readings for the week. The importance of each and every member of the team and the
realization that no one member is more important than the next is a valuable lesson to be learned from
the movie. Another important lesson to be learned from the movie is that while the results of a change
may not be immediately noticed, believing in each other and in the team can be beneficial in the long
run. Changes may not always have immediate results that are favorable, but sticking with the planned

Throughout history, discrimination has wielded its ugly head in many different forms. Things such as,
