 A Shrub is plant which
has branching stem near
the base. In shrub the
stem are hard but not
very thick.
 Plants with green and
tender stems are called
herbs . They are usually
short and may not have
many branches.
Some plants are very tall
and have hard and thick
brown stem. The stem
have branches in the
upper part, much above
the ground. Such plants
are called trees.
Generally a plant is mainly
divided into two parts –
 Root system.
 Shoot system.
The part of the plant above
the ground is called
shoot.
The part of the plant below
the ground is called root
system.
 The part of the plant under
the ground is called root.
 Roots hold the soil thus
gives strength to the plant
 Roots absorb water and
minerals from the soil.
 Some time roots also store
food for future use.
 Roots are of three types –
 Tap root
 Fibrous root
 Prop root.
 Prop root are the roots
that grow from the
branches. As this roots
reach the ground , they
fix themselves in the soil
and give support to the
spreading branches of
the tree.
 The main root from
which branch root arise .
Such roots are called tap
root
A number of thin fibre like
roots arise from the base
of the stem. They spread
out in the soil and give
support to the plant. This
are known as fibrous
root.
The upper part of the plant
above the ground is called
shoot system.
Generally a shoot system
contains -
 Stem.
 Leaf
 Nodes
 Internodes
 Buds
 Flower
 Fruits
The stem of tree is called
trunks. They are thick,
woody and strong.
The outer, protective
covering of trunk of a
tree is called bark
Thin thread like structre on
the stem which are
modification of the stem
and are known as
tendrils.
Spines are modified form of
leaf. With the help of
spines a plant can
restrict loss of water by
evaporation. It also acts
as a protective organ.
Leaf is a part of shoot system
which makes food for the
plant by photosynthesis.
Generally a leaf is green in
colour due to the presence
of Cholorophyll. Sometimes
leaf may be of different
colour
A leaf has –
 Lamina
Petiole
 Midribs
 Veins
A flower is that part of a plant which
take part in reproduction.
A typical flower contain –
 Pedicei
 Thalamus
 Sepals
 Petals
 Stamen
 Filament
 Anther
 Pollen grain
 Pistil
 Ovary
 Stigma
 Style
A fruit is a reproductive
product of a plant.
A fruit contains seed.
A seed contains baby plant
called embryo.
The embryo contain
plumule and radical.
The plumule grows into
shoot and the radical
grows into root.
