Saavador Allende Research Paper
In 1973, Las Fuerzas Armadas de Chile staged a coup against President Salvador Allende, which led
Latin America to one of the bloodiest and violent takeovers it had ever seen. President Salavador
Allende served two terms and was known for being a Marxist, socialist, and communist. Because he
was communist, it brought a cause for concern to the United States, who was greatly opposed to that
form of government. The CIA even tried to help Allende s opposing candidates win in hopes that
Chile wouldn t become a Communist country, but their plan was unsuccessful. The two candidates,
whom Allende beat, made up over 60% of the peoples votes, which were all in opposition to the
Popular Unity government system that Allende put into place (Chasteen, 2006). ... Show more content

Eventually, rebellions did arise and create trouble for Pinochet s regime. A campaign started during his
referendum of 1988 that was against the eight year renewal of his role as Chile s leader. According to
the movie No, directed by Pablo Larrain, and is based off of a true story, in hopes of stopping other
campaigns from making their case against Pinochet s renewal of being leader, he used methods such
as intimidation, open threats, made people disappear, ordered assassinations, executions, allowed for
people to be tortured, the destruction of property, and ordered protestors to be brutally assaulted and
arrested, to get people to back down and vote yes for his eight year term renewal. The Central
Nacional de Informaciones, or CNI, which was the last Chilean secret service agency, also admitted to
being a part of over 50 cases of torture during Pinochet s regime (No, Larrain, 2012). The campaigns
against his renewal ended up successful and Pinochet was forced down as his role of dictator, which
finally opened Chile up into becoming a more democratic country. Pinochet s plebiscite of returning
as leader for another eight years had lost with about 43% of the votes in favor. He then stepped down
after 25 years of being the general army chief and dictator of Chile in March, 1988 (Skidmore, Smith,

Introduction
Over the last seventy years, the U.S. Military has developed into one of the main tools used by our
International Partners to manage complex crisis that pose a serious threat to international peace and
security past the United States borders. The number of military personnel that are being deployed to
investigate, assist when peacekeeping is greatly needed has grown in size and within the last decade
has become progressively complex. Today our military collect and analyze numerous data that is

But the U.S. has made it very clear that We will continue to maintain relentless pressure on terrorist
groups that threaten our people, victims of terrorism, our military involvement or international

laws and values, (Hagel 2013).
Forty two years of power, dictatorship, civil war where many lost their lives was Qaddafi s persona.
His accolade was being ruthless while maintaining a sense of flamboyance attitude that he was
invincible and no one could touch him. His eccentric leadership raised Qaddafi through the ranks of
the Libyan army in which he was made military chief and led Libyan forces to one of the deadliest
Arab wars against Israel.
Protest broke out in Libya which is the second largest city, Benghazi, to protest freedom, civil rights
and the ousting of Qaddaffi. To corner Qaddafi, the U.N. Security Council imposed sanctions against
Libya that included arms embargo and many assets were frozen, in which the U.N. Council referred
Libya to the International Criminal Court for investigation of crimes against humanity

Opportunity Defined The Unassigned Lands
Essay B 1 Opportunity defined the Unassigned lands. Two attorneys, T.C. Sears and Elias C.
Boudinot, found within the old treaties, land titles, and other various documents that 14 million acres
of land were unclaimed, which would later be promoted Oklahoma district (Baird and Goble, p 141).
The drive behind the Sears and Boudinot were primarily monetary reasons. Sears was an attorney for
the Katy Railroad, which sought to settle the unassigned lands to increase the revenue from the empty
region; Boudinot a Cherokee Attorney seeking fortunes (Baird and Goble, p 142). Yet, the Federal
government protected the unassigned lands, which had been previously taken from the Creek and
Seminole Nations (Baird and Goble, p 142). Although the opening of the Unassigned Lands in 1889
would require pressure from various sides on the Federal government, but to change Federal
government s stance of zero homesteading would require the pressure of the powerful railroads, the
Boomer movement, and other major parties.
The railroads saw the Unassigned Lands as a mean open up new markets to trade; the railroad was a
powerful industry in the 19th century (Baird and Goble, p 141). The railroad changed the landscape of
the land by bringing in new people, new ideas, new businesses, and more. Just as the railroad
supported the opening of the Unassigned Lands, the commercial interests surrounding what would
become Oklahoma territory such as banks, merchants, and other profit seekers also supported

EXCRETORY SYSTEM
OF OSTEICHTYES
The main organ in the excretory system of all Osteichthyes is the kidney. They are complex, and
within them is the nephrons. The nephrons form in segments much like an Earthworm. The corpuscle
is part of the nephron that filters blood, and the tubule send back water and solutes (nutrients) into the
blood. The bad and useless componets of the blood are sent to the ureter which is where urine is
removed from the body. Solid wastes are processed through the digestive tract, and removed from the
body out of the anus.
In fishes, some excretion also takes place in the digestive tract, skin, and especially the gills (where
ammonia is given off). Compared with land vertebrates, fishes have a special problem ... Show more

In Fugo chrysops, the distinction between the kidney and the head kidney is not clear. A pair of ureters
leave the posterior end, and they join in front of the small urinary bladder. Corpuscles of Stannus lie
on the dorsal side of the junction of ureters. In typical fresh water fishes, the heterotopic thyoid
follicles are often found in the kidney or the head kidney. In general, the active and fast swimming
fishes have numerous and better developed glomeruli than sluggish fish have. Beyenbach and
Baustian (1989), Beyenbach and Dantzler (1990), Baustian and Beyenbach (1993), Beyenbach (1995)
and Beyenbach and Lui (1996) have provided a wealth information on the comparative physiology of
the proximal tubule. As the first major tubule along the length of the nephron, the proximal tubule is
invariably present in all vertebrate kidney. It performs most renal functions in glomerular kidneys, and
virtually all transport functions in aglomerular kidneys. Aglomerular kidneys secretes magnesium and
sulphate ions, an obvious adaptation to marine conditions. Nevertheless, some aglomerular fish can
now tolerate dilute brackish water or even fresh water. Osteichthyes release their nitrogen as
ammonia. Blood waste are filtered by kidney. And some waste is diffused by the gills. Salt water
osteichthyes are constantly secreting water through their skin. They tend to drink a lot of water

The Positive And Negative Aspects Of Hospitalization
Healthcare is an issue that affects people all around the world. Many countries have adopted different
perspectives on how to solve this problem. Two of the main solutions to the healthcare problem are a
free market healthcare system or a national healthcare system. Both of these positions have positive
and negative attributes that come into play when they are compared with one another. These systems
create an environment where the majority of people receive healthcare but in different ways.
Healthcare is something that allows people to use hospitals and other facilities at a reduced cost. This
enables people to get check ups and immunizations without paying for the full cost of the visit. In the
case where hospitalization occurs healthcare covers a large portion of the costs to stay in the hospital
and the procedures that you may undergo while you are in the hospital. Healthcare becomes very
important to individuals all around the world with the price of hospitals and other facilities rising. This
rise in prices is making it hard for people to get the appropriate care they need without having
insurance companies pay for part of the expenses. A national healthcare system, also called universal
healthcare, is one where every citizen is provided with some healthcare coverage whether it be from
the government or private industries. Some, but not all, of national healthcare systems are single payer
healthcare systems. A single payer healthcare system is where one agency,

Language Differences Between Language And Language
While language deficiency makes some significant points that only specific codes are used by
different economical groups, language difference theory raises the point of language variation and the
problem is with the way that schools are interacting and valuing the differences among students. It
must be noted language difference focus on the difference in a set of language skills held by students
of different cultural backgrounds, not a deficient set of language skills as Bernstein had described.
Labov () describes one language as not more acceptable or superior than the other, but both language
variations appropriate and acceptable within their own contexts (Emmit p.61 2010). It has been found

For example, English as a language has been developed and adapted into what David Crystal (2013),
describes as Englishes, meaning that there are different variations of the English language to
accommodate a variety of English speaking people. Crystal (2013), explains that language variation
occurs when a group of people adjust and adapt their language and form a new variation to express or
communicate certain ideas, values and beliefs based on their personal experiences, geographical
location, and or to communicate with another foreign language. Language variations can occur due to
several reasons such as gender, culture, and race, and that as individuals our language is influenced
due to what is around us (Emmitt, 2010 p.54). It is constantly changing and adapting to its users,
insisting that there is no correct or incorrect way of speaking English, just variations which are all
equal in value. Language dialects occur relatively quickly and without too much thought, as people
use language to communicate and by adapting their existing language to what suits them at the time
(Crystal,2013 ).
Teacher play a significate role in the path that their students take within their schooling years as much
as when they finish school. It is important to remember that those early experiences with language and
literacy in the classroom will build the foundation and confidence the students will require further in
life (Cremin p. 2012). Learning

Causes And Treatment Of Infective Endocarditis
Before discussing Infective Endocarditis, it s imperative to understand where the endocardium is
along with its function because endocarditis affects this area of the heart. The Endocardium is the
innermost layer of heart tissue that lines the cavities and valves of the heart and is composed of loose
epithelial and connective tissue. The endocardium regulates contractions of the heart and helps
regulate the composition of the blood that feeds the tissues of the heart (Kenney, 2015). Infective
Endocarditis, IE, is an infection of the endocardium that generally occurs when bacteria or germs from
another part of the body, such as the mouth, spread through the bloodstream and attach to damaged
areas in the heart (Endocarditis Definition, 2015). Individuals that have an increased risk of
developing Endocarditis include:
Those with Pacemakers or Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD)
Individuals with existing conditions of the heart valves
HIV (What Increases Your Risk of Endocarditis?, 2015).
Diabetes Mellitus and long term hemodialysis (Infective endocarditis in adults, 2001).
According to the American Heart Association, endocarditis affects twice as many men as women and
eight times as many older men as older woman. More than a quarter of all cases occur in individuals
that are older than 60 years of age (Heart Valves and Infective Endocarditis, 2014). In the United

A Rhetorical Analysis Of The Last Lecture By Randy Pausch
Randy Pausch s The Last Lecture: Achieving Your Childhood Dreams was given on September 18th,
2007, shortly after being diagnosed with cancer. Randy made his goal of the speech not more than five
minutes in, stating the importance of achieving your childhood dreams. The language he is using is
very formal, and he appeals to the audience by making several references to common things such as
movies, and a humorous quote after he states his current condition, I m in better shape than most of
you! as he proceeds doing pushups on stage. In various points in his speech, he is speaking to certain
individuals in the audience about things pertaining to his story, and how he achieved some of his
childhood dreams with the help of others. Randy really hit it off with everybody, and made the speech
untimely, so that anybody at any point in time can view his speech and wonder is this still relevant?
Near the closing of his speech, he states that he wasn t giving to speech for everybody in the audience;
he was giving the speech for his children, as he wouldn t be around for them growing up. At several
points in his speech he makes references to common things and statistics, such as MacBook s and how
few people have one. At other points he referenced things such as Steve Jobs + Wozniak in their
garage, as him and his team build his VR setup for under $5,000. ... Show more content on

some of these amazing things! This works perfectly for Randy s goal in the speech getting the

Character Analysis Of A Child Called It By David Pelzer
Character Essay David Pelzer, the main (and perhaps only) protagonist, has struggled with a lot
throughout the book I read. The story is mainly about Dave s determination to withstand his abusive,
alcoholic mother, who will, without a second thought, beat him if he doesn t get his chores done. Even
if he does get all of his chores done, he is starved and forced to sleep on an old army cot in his
basement while his family lives in the luxury of the upstairs section of the house. The writer, Dave
Pelzer, changed the names of his family to keep their anonymity, which was nice of him due to what
goes on in his story. This essay is about a book called A Child Called It. It was never mentioned what
Dave actually looked like, but you can infer his appearance just by he tells how he lives his life. He is
definitely a very skinny boy due to being starved by his mother. He mentions that during his early
school years, he had been practicing running to school so he d be fast enough to snag some food from
the grocery store before his class started. On the cover of the book, it shows a picture of what might be
him. If it is, then it shows that he has pale skin, chocolate brown hair that falls into his face along with
beaming, lively, azure eyes. It is said that his mother rarely ever washed his clothes or bought him new
ones, so it is evident that his apparel would likely be torn and tattered. His age changes throughout the
book it tells his story from ages four to twelve. There

Evaluate The Effectiveness Of The Progressive Movement
At the beginning of 1900s, reformers pushed for a number of changes. Together their efforts build the
progressive movement. The progressive movement was a reform movement made to return control of
the government to the people, to get economic opportunities, and to correct injustices in American life.
The progressive movement was useful because it improved the political, social, and economics of
America. The movement is based on four major objectives, protect social welfare, promote moral
improvements, create economic reform and foster efficiency. Reformers tried to promote social
welfare by forming protestant movements for example The Social Gospel was the most prominent in
the late 19th century and early 20th century. The movement relates Christian principles to social
problems, especially poverty, inequality, liquor, bad hygiene, and crime. They believed that that the
second coming could not happen until humankind rid itself of social evils by human effort. The
Salvation Army emphasized the Christian duty to help those who were less fortunate and fed poor
people in the cities and cared for children in nurseries. Progressives were so shaken by the abuse of

The Squat exercise workout for Power
This workout uses the squat exercise to increase your power for the Squat event in Powerlifting. We

The proper form for the Squat exercise begins with bar placement. You want to have the bar rest on
your traps, not your neck. By squeezing your shoulder blades together, you create a shelf on the top of
your traps. Position the bar on top of this shelf and across the rear deltoids. Hold it in place by
gripping the bar with a hand spacing that is comfortable for you, and tucking your elbows under the

Brachial Plexus Injury Research Paper
Throughout the sports world today, injuries a very common. An injury is as any significant condition
limiting function that caused an athlete to seek medical care by a trainer or physician, caused a
practice or match to be discontinued, and resulted in lost time from athletic participation for 1 or more
days (Pasque). It is not uncommon to hear of a player pulling a muscle, tearing their ACL, getting a
concussion, etc. Certain sports have a higher probability of getting certain injuries than others. For
example, in football, wrestling and hockey, injury to the brachial plexus, or brachial plexopathy, is one

There is a reason these are more common in contact sports other than non contact sports. Some of the
most common injury mechanisms were tackling, running, being tackled, twisting, turning, jumping
and landing (Wong). Each of these movements are exactly what football players and wrestlers have to
do. Football players are all the time getting hit from behind or even hit from the side knocking them
unconscious. Most of the time the lower extremities are often injured during tackling as players cannot
respond quickly enough to avoid such rapid and unpredictable movements (Wong). Also the age range
and gender does not play a factor. It would be more common in males in a way just because football
and wrestling are a more male dominant sport. Rules for the sports are changing to try and
prevent/decrease the amount of injuries in both sports. Studies have shown since the rules have
changed the injuries have gone down but are still

hole (Kozol, 1988, p. 53). Ultimately, the education at public schools were thrown aside at the cost of
enriching the lives of students in affluent schools. Within the two districts I researched, Dallas ISD
and Highland Park ISD, I found that the gathered median income from Highland Park is four times
that of Dallas ISD. Because of this, Dallas ISD students are forced to rely on the limited sources of
educational materials which are reflected by the substantially different median income compared to
Highland ISD. Additionally, racial divide amongst the two ISD s is astonishing. In Dallas ISD s only
5.1% of the student body is identified as white but Highland Park is 85.8%. Meanwhile, the other
ethnicities for the two school districts have the percentages swapped. Having Highland ISD s black,
Latino/Hispanic, Asian, or Pacific ethnicities just below the 15% margin and Dallas ISD s non white
ethnicities soaring above 94%, the clear distinction of racial inequality among these two districts are
evident. Comparing these percentages aligns to Kozol s evaluation of white overpopulation in affluent
schools within different districts such as Highland ISD.

An Analysis Of Stephen J. Dubner s The Book
This non fiction book was written by an economist at the University of Chicago, Steven Levitt, and a
New York Times journalist, Stephen J. Dubner. The book is written in a manner of self help in which
readers themselves, who are after innovation in business and marketing, are able to incentivize and
persuade the people. The main message focuses on making decisions and choices appealing to a larger
group that could have once started off as a decision to be of one s own private benefit. In order, to
think like a Freak as Dubner and Levitt put it, one must first be able to put away their moral compass .
This is considered the thought processes of oneself that are vague, for they are biased by the views of
the persons on what would be the right thing to do according to their political, religious, or ethical
outlook. However, when thinking like a freak one must be in an economic sense. People who do not
put away their moral guiding will already have a plan on what to do that may not be the most
beneficial or it can even be harmful. The authors also emphasize on the three words of I don t know .
By using this phrase one can literally put of what they do not know to dig in, and after doing the
research and gathering necessary they would be able to disperse their knowledge. For adults this is
hard to say because the moral compass is what creates a clear distinction between the right and the
wrong, but this can lead to a lack of learning more about the topic or situation.

The Terrible Trade Of The Slave Trade
Maddie Long
Mrs. Smith
Research Essay
19 October 2015
The Terrible Trade
Screams for relief, cries for comfort, and moans for death all revolved around the slave trade. The
slave trade is an event that not only impacted Africa, but the whole world. This essay will explain how
cultures were ruined and families were torn apart. The slave trade has influenced history worldwide
because it has impacted countries economically, socially, and politically.
The Middle Passage received its name because it is in the middle of the Triangular Trade. Legs of the
triangular trade stretch from Europe to Africa, Africa to the Western Hemisphere, then back to Europe
again. This was a great route for Europeans to get ships around the world quickly and efficiently. This
is how the slave trade began (Meltzer 9). Most everyone in the world today has a descendent from
slavery. Enslavement is a human being that is possessed by someone else, who does labor for free
unwillingly. An owner could range from a King, Queen, Noble, Tribe, Government, Clergy, or
Business owner. Slaves were considered similar to horses in a way because they could be bought, sold,
hired out, exchanged, given as a gift, or inherited (Meltzer 9 1).
The slave trade was more than five hundred miles long from Africa to the Americas. At least 30,000
55,000 ships went through the middle passage in the time of 1508 1888. In addition, only 9,778,500
out of the 11,698,000 slaves made it to the Americas. Slavery has been dated back

Police Officers Use Of Force
Police Officers use of force has been an big issue for many decades, But has now made its way to
mainstream. From news to social media there s always a recent relevant story/ case on police officers
use of force. In 2016 Baton Rouge man, Alton Sterling was killed do to Police officers use of
excessive force. This sparked an outrage in the nation after Mr. Sterlings murder went viral through
social media. The shooting led to protests in Baton Rouge and a request for a civil rights investigation
by the U.S. Department of Justice.
There were boycotts of the malls in Baton Rouge, people were marching even holding up traffic. This
didn t only occur in Baton Rouge, but across the U.S. people were standing up for this injustice. Alton
Sterling was selling cd in front of a convenience store when two officers approached him, the situation
escalated Mr. Sterling was shot several times resulting in his death. Baton Rouge police did not
provide much information about what escalated the incident between the officers and Sterling or what
prompted an officer to fire his weapon. A witness, however, described police as aggressive and said
Sterling was armed but was not holding his gun or touching his pockets during the incident. The level
of force an officer uses varies based on the situation. Because of this variation, guidelines for the use
of force are based on many factors, including the officer s level of training or experience.

The outside world knew nothing of his living nightmare. He had nothing or no one to turn to, but his

Child Called It is a first person narrative of a severely abused child who has survived to tell his tale.
Dave Pelzer tells his story to help others heal from the trauma of the past. You may remember that in
training we emphasize how many abused and neglected children remain so attached to their families
that they want to live with them at any cost. This was not Dave Pelzer s experience. He grew to hate
his mother for singling him out for systematic torture. His anger helped him survive: quot;I wanted to

Physical Injuries Of A Prophylactic Ankle Brace
One of the most common injuries that is relatively seen in all sports, especially in basketball and
volleyball, is an acute ankle injury that accounts for about 10 to 25 percent of all injuries. Of all these
injuries that occur, almost ΒΎ of them are related to the lateral structures in our ankle. The most
common and minor form of these injuries is a lateral ankle sprain, which is caused by an inversion
stress to the joint of the ankle. When someone happens to sprain their ankle, the usual preventive
measures by athletic trainers and sports doctors are taken into action such as ankle taping, using of an
ankle brace, strengthening of the ankle, and therapy. Of all these, a prophylactic ankle brace is often
chosen to help reduce the chance of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the factors known to cause these abnormal movements in the joints of the lower extremity is
the use of a prophylactic ankle brace. One doctor was able to discover that using an ankle brace during
athletic performance did not increase the risk of injury. Our research showed that knee biomechanics
known to be risk factors for ACL injury did not appear to be negatively impacted by wearing a lace up
ankle brace. (Aerni, Giselle, 2012). If athletes wear prophylactic ankle braces during athletic
activities, then they are more likely to be subjected to knee injuries. The study will analyze the effect
that prophylactic ankle braces cause to the joints of the knee and determining if it increases the stress
placed on them. The primary function of a prophylactic ankle that is being used is to put a restriction
on the inversion range of motion it usually has, since it is where most injuries occur in an ankle sprain.
What people don t know is that it also decreases your overall performance, total range of motion, and
other kinematics as well. When a player is jumping and landing, the use of an ankle brace significantly
reduces the amount of internal and external rotation you have in your ankle. So, when the rotation of
the subtalar joint in the transverse plane is reduced, your leg and foot aren t able to

havoc. He went to Babi Yar...the last place where Jews could hide.
Babi Yar is located in Kiev, Ukraine. During World War II, a massacre took place in the small town,
killing more than 1,000 Jews. The Nazis attacked them on September 29, 1943. Afterwards, the war
continued to rage, only to end in 1945. During World War II, Adolf Hitler rose to fame as the harsh

towards the end of the war. Shortly after the massacre, the United States would jump in to save the

rest of Europe after Babi Yar. The aftermath of Babi Yar is not a great one. It took over 6 years to
rebuild Babi Yar and everything that was destroyed at Babi Yar. Many shelters, homes, buildings, and
personal stations were destroyed during the massacre. The Nazis showed no mercy. (Hjelnguard, Kim)
After the massacre, the Nazis tried to hide evidence that anything ever happened by covering the dead
bodies with nothing but dirt and rock. The Nazis were convicted of what they tried to escape with, and
some were caught. They not only tired to hide the bodies with dirt and rock, but they even burned

The World Of Trade And Business, The Industrial Revolution...
Name Institution Course Unit Lecturer Date Introduction In the world of trade and business, the
industrial revolution is a period in which most of the modern global economic superpowers
established their foundation. This was a period between the 18th and the 19th centuries in which rural,
agrarian societies in America and Europe were transformed and became urban and industrial. Prior to
this period that began in Britain; the manufacturing was mainly done in homes through hand tools and
other basic machines that were not widely in use (MacLeod). The period of industrialization marked
the beginning of a shift to power, specialized machinery, mass production and factories. Among other
industries, the iron and textile industries played a major role assisted by the development of the steam
engine. These developments saw the improvement of transportation, banking and communication
(Hillstrom). Despite the restrictions that had been placed on the artisans and other shareholders in
Britain to avoid a situation where industrial knowledge was leaked to other countries, her interests in
colonies opened up avenues through information and knowledge moved to other regions such as
America. Factors leading to industrialization in America The embargo of 1807 The embargo of 1807
is one of the key reasons that led to America rethinking her approach on development. During the

Red Flour Beetles Lab
INTRODUCTION In this lab, the class discovered the effects of different substrates and stimuli on red
flour beetles. Red flour beetles eat flour and other grains and the female beetle deposits her eggs on
flour, cereal, dry pet food, or other similar products. The larvae hatch and then begin to eat the
material around them. In the article Patch exploitation by Tribolium castaneum: Movement patterns,
distribution, and oviposition , it says that most of the activity from red flour beetles is spent in food
sources (Campbell and Hagstrum). There are many factors that affect the red flour beetles ability to
survive or reproduce, like temperature, food source, stress, and genetics (Biology 159). In Humidity
Reactions of Tribolium Castaneum (Herbst) , it states that red flour beetles are attracted to different
substrates due to their nutritional levels and moisture level of the substrate (Willis and Roth). ... Show

Our prediction is that the white flour side will occupy more red flour beetles than the oat flour side of
the dish because that is the preferred substrate. The null hypothesis is that there will be no preference

Abortion Should Not Be Illegal Essay
Abortion is widely debated across the world and in 1973 Roe v. Wade would start an issue with ethical
and legal issues. There are multiple cases arguing why it should or shouldn t be lawful to go through
with this procedure. Women should have the right to get an abortion as It is her rights to decide if they
aren t able to be able have a child, the woman shouldn t have to rely on anyone else, she should be
able to make this decision as they have to carry it for 9 months and endure the physical pain. Abortion
should not be illegal because it is justifiable in cases of rape, or when the woman has mental health or
financial issues. In the case of rape, it is unjustifiable to say that a woman has to carry a baby when
she is forced into intercourse with a man who the woman does not please. For those who say that
abortion is so inhumane, why doesn t one simply look at the act of rape as disgusting as someone
would look at abortion. The victim is going through enough being forced without choice to have a
child if she consumes, so why make her carry the baby for 9 months knowing that the perpetrator has
given her this child. I don t think that the women should have to be mentally viable for this child or
have to take care of a child that is forced upon her own will. Having a child hurts very much, why put
a victim of rape through more pain then she has to endure? Abortion isn t illegal in other countries for
more serious issues why should America make it illegal? Someone with mental

Gothic. There is no denying that Anne Rice s Vampires have a lot to do with homosexuality and
Haggerty s highlighting this is in no way a new criticism, but the claim that is must be read as gay is
entirely dismissive of the many other sexual paradigms that exist within The Vampire Chronicles.
To begin with, his referral of Lestat as a gay predator seems unfair in its definition. The fact of his
being a vampire automatically asserts him as a predator , but his relationships are not exclusively
homosexual. He is a vampire that merely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, in Blood Canticle, written five years after Haggerty s essay, it is Rowan who Lestat finally and
selflessly loves selflessness not being an attribute we have known greatly in his character until this
point. As Haggerty says, Rice is eroticizing the gay man whilst at the same time undermining it by
portraying the homosexual relationships as heavily sexual, violent and deviant in comparison to the
more nurturing, romantic relationship Lestat has with Rowan.
The Vampires in the novels explore sexual deviancy, but are always ultimately punished in doing so.
The homosexual parentage of Louis and Lestat to Claudia and of Armand to Sybelle and Benji are
both destroyed in their own way. Claudia and Louis final rejection of Lestat and Armand s failure in
being able to protect Sybelle and Benji from Marius, are both examples of homosexual families being
explored and then finally being punished for going against the accepted social norm of 20th century
culture. This supports Haggerty s claim that readers want to explore unauthorized desires and at the
same time see them bleed , by exploring and then destroying homosexual relationships repeatedly
throughout the collection. When reading the characters as homosexual as Haggerty suggests, this
punishment dynamic makes it unavoidable to find truth in Haggerty s claim that Rice

The Secret Of Empathy, Enlightenment, And Internal Growth...
The Secret of Empathy, Enlightenment, and Internal Growth There are two senses of reality: external
and internal. External reality is an observable universe, but perspectives differ and thus cause different
opinions. To experience internal reality is to confuse one s own reality with a shared reality, resulting
in a loss of empathy and disregarding how others are affected. An external mindset displays an
understanding of different opinions in a shared world, whereas with internal mindset a person s
devotion to a belief becomes their private world. When a person is passionate about their beliefs they
tend to disregard other perspectives, or live internally. This is a common practice because, depending
upon upbringing, different moral values have been instilled in the person. Typically, people will not
partake in activities or actions that defy their morality, so they tend to align with others who share
similar values. However, people who are unwilling to think beyond their own beliefs lose their sense
of empathy. The more devoted a person is to their morals, the less empathy they might have. When we
look outside ourselves to other perspectives, we can better connect to an external rather than simply an
internal reality, approaching the world with an enlightened state of mind capable of both empathy and
consistent growth. A less narrow minded person is capable of accessing an external reality. Typically,
it seems that the more devout citizens are more closed minded. They

The Real Revolution In 1688-Nine In Scotland Not England
Alba gu brΓ‘th: An Essay on the Events of 1688 9 in Scotland The real revolution in 1688 9 happened
in Scotland not England. Discuss In reference to the events of 1688, diarist John Evelyn wrote, The
Popists in offices lay down their Commissions...it lookes like a Revolution. According to the OED,
writers at the time, such as John Evelyn, defined a revolution as the overthrow of an established
government or social order by those previously subject to it. The term revolution has different
meanings to different historians; because of this, this paper will use the definition as used by writers of
the time. By this definition, then, the real revolution in 1688 9 happened in Scotland not England.
When discussing revolutions, one should consider the presence of violence and force, any change in ...

Religious violence during the period from 1670 88 contributed to the revolution settlement of 1689, as
outlined by the Claim of Right. Presbyterians found themselves in a precarious position; on one hand,
they were not Anglican, so Anglicans feared them and sought to limit Presbyterian power; on the other
hand, Presbyterians were still protestant and thus could find no allies in Catholicism. Charles II and
James II (and VII) saw Presbyterians as a potential seditious element in Scotland and wanted to limit
their ability to revolt, especially after Covenanters staged a rebellion in 1679 led by John Graham. A
crackdown on Presbyterian meeting houses forced Presbyterian Covenanters into the field; literally,
they started meeting in what were known as field conventicles. Attacks on these field conventicles led
Covenanters to rebel against the government forces, a rebellion which culminated in the Battle of
Bothwell Bridge, which occurred on June 22nd, 1679. There was a lot of violence, particularly
directed toward Presbyterians, that led up to the Scottish Claim of Right in

One of the photographers, James Balog, is currently working on a project called Extreme Ice Survey
where he is photographically documenting the effects of the climate change regarding the melting of

the issue. He has been a part of the National Geographic team for over thirty years and has broken
new conceptual and artistic ground on one of the most important issues of our era: human
modification of our planet s natural systems. (James Baolog, Founder Director, Extreme Ice

Themes And Conflicts In The Glass Menagerie By Tennessee...
Set in St. Louis Missouri prior to World War II, Tennessee Williams reflects back on his deeply tragic
and dysfunctional familial experiences in, The Glass Menagerie . Williams brilliantly incorporates real
aspects of society to reveal how they contributed to the nonreal aspects and the conflicts which
affected his family. The real aspects of the play which had a significant impact on the lower middle
class families such as the Wingfields included, the economic hardships surrounding the Great
Depression, the fall of the American south, society s intolerance towards homosexuality, and many
threats abroad. Although Williams play was merely a series of hazy memories, the nonreal aspects
combined with the major societal conflicts contribute ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through Amanda s inability to separate the real from the fantasy, William s proves that Amanda s
main coping mechanism is to retreat from reality. Amanda s role as the forgotten southern belle also
impacts her relationship with her daughter Laura, who suffers from crippling social anxiety and an
inferiority complex as a result of her disability. Aside from the internal and external conflicts which
impact Amanda, Williams s strongly expresses his indictment through his very own character, Tom.
Tom is merely a victim of both societal conflicts and his own guilt caused by his decision to seek
fulfillment within his own life, rather than surrender to the unsatisfying life which his mother had
created for him. One of the greatest factors in Tom s lifestyle that creates his desire to escape this
sense of imprisonment, is society s overall attitude toward homosexuality, specifically within his
mother. Amanda stated, I took that horrible novel back to the library yes! That hideous book by that
insane Mr. Lawrence. I cannot control the output of diseased minds or people who cater to them but I
won t let such filth brought into my house (Williams 759). Because 1930 s society does not allow
homosexuality to be expressed openly, literature is the closest way which allows him to express
himself. The simple fact that his novels are the one way which allows him to gain any sense of
satisfaction is taken away by his

Symptoms And Treatment Of The Fracture
Quadriplegia is a very complex, life threatening condition that requires immediate attention after
initial injury. After arriving at the hospital, focus on survival is key by monitoring the airway.
Respiratory support may be required via mechanical ventilation through a noninvasive intermittent
positive pressure ventilator or an invasive tracheostomy if the injury has affected the individual s
diaphragm. After the airway is patent, the regaining of vertebral alignment and immobilization of the
spinal fracture site is implemented to reduce further damage to the spinal cord. Diagnosing a SCI is
based on a physical examination, neurological evaluation, and diagnostic imaging to assess the extent
of damage. Stabilization of the fracture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other causes for the individual to require speech may include dysphagia, vocal cord impairment, or
cognitive deficits. While the individual is on a ventilator via a tracheostomy, the ability to speak aloud
is lost. Interventions to improve communication include instructing the individual on how to
communicate by with mouthing the words, or by having the caregiver plug the trach with a gloved
finger (finger occlusion), or if applicable, using the plugging/capping/button intervention which
occludes the trach while allowing voice production so that the individual can speak. Mouthing of
words is used if the other interventions are not tolerated, and tactics such as intraoral sounds are
utilized to get the caregiver s attention. In the case that vocal cord impairment is present after removal
of the trach, vocal cord exercises may be implemented. If the individual is having dysphagia, a food
consistency a liquid level evaluation will be performed to assess any impairments the individual may
have. Once the problems have been established, ST will establish a plan that involves exercises that
include oral motor exercises, pharyngeal strengthening, and deep pharyngeal neuromuscular
stimulation along with implementing a diet with the accurate consistency needed for swallowing
safety. If the individual is suspected to have a brain injury, cognition may be evaluated for

Bill Gates Accomplishments
People take for granted how far technology has come in the past 40 years. Back then, computers
weren t seen as a consumer product, only as a high end company s tool for completing complicated
equations or automating systems. Bill Gates was the man who headed the shift in software
development that led to a lot of the technology we have today. Most people probably already know
Bill Gates as the richest man in the world but what is more interesting is the story behind his fortune.
Bill Gates is considered one of the most influential people in technology because of his breakthrough
innovations in personal computers and generous philanthropy. Bill Gates started working on software

Gates was approached by IBM with an offer to buy out their company. IBM wanted to buy the source
code, which would have given them the information to the operating system. Gates refused, instead
proposing that IBM pay a licensing fee for copies of the software sold with their computers.
(Biography.com Editors) This was an unheard of strategy at the time and critics thought it was
unlikely Gates would turn a profit with this strategy. Luckily Gates s risk paid off. The microcomputer
industry greatly increased when Microsoft licensed MS DOS to IBM. (Biography.com Editors)
Although IBM helped a lot getting Microsoft started the company eventually grew to overshadow
IBM and left them. Microsoft was getting a cut from every computer IBM sold that was running MS
DOS which gave them the opportunity to move out of their makeshift office and expand the company.
During this time, Apple was also seeing huge success with their Mac OS and Gates, being the savvy
businessman he is, wanted to see where the industry was headed. Gates met with Steve Jobs, the CEO
of Apple Computers, to discuss working on Mac OS with them. At first Jobs adamant to keep the OS a
secret from competition, but he knew of Microsoft s reputation in the operating system word and

beloved family members, peers, and friends all came out to support her at the Covina Center of the

to the stage by tying in everything in her vocal talents with posture and breathing, diction, tone and
registration, and performance etiquette. During the performance Perine sang a total of 12 solo songs
and a duet. During the entirety of the show Perine showed excellence in her posture and breathing.
She stood in a all black dress for the entire show. She was never slouching her shoulders, her knees
were never locked, and she stood tall and confident. At moments, the audience could not comment on
her posture because she would walk around the stage to give the show a more alive feeling. Her
breathing was excellent also. Throughout most of the show many were impressed that she did not
breath a lot from her chest. The audience, could more than likely tell that she was breathing

Saavador Allende Research Paper In 1973, Las Fuerzas Armadas de Chile staged a coup against President Salvador Allende, which led Latin America to one of the bloodiest and violent takeovers it had ever seen. President Salavador Allende served two terms and was known for being a Marxist, socialist, and communist. Because he was communist, it brought a cause for concern to the United States, who was greatly opposed to that form of government. The CIA even tried to help Allende s opposing candidates win in hopes that Chile wouldn t become a Communist country, but their plan was unsuccessful. The two candidates, whom Allende beat, made up over 60% of the peoples votes, which were all in opposition to the Popular Unity government system that Allende put into place (Chasteen, 2006). ... According to the movie No, directed by Pablo Larrain, and is based off of a true story, in hopes of stopping other campaigns from making their case against Pinochet s renewal of being leader, he used methods such as intimidation, open threats, made people disappear, ordered assassinations, executions, allowed for people to be tortured, the destruction of property, and ordered protestors to be brutally assaulted and arrested, to get people to back down and vote yes for his eight year term renewal. The Central Nacional de Informaciones, or CNI, which was the last Chilean secret service agency, also admitted to being a part of over 50 cases of torture during Pinochet s regime (No, Larrain, 2012). The campaigns against his renewal ended up successful and Pinochet was forced down as his role of dictator, which finally opened Chile up into becoming a more democratic country. Pinochet s plebiscite of returning as leader for another eight years had lost with about 43% of the votes in favor. He then stepped down after 25 years of being the general army chief and dictator of Chile in March, 1988 (Skidmore, Smith, Green, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Opportunity Defined The Unassigned Lands Essay B 1 Opportunity defined the Unassigned lands. Two attorneys, T.C. Sears and Elias C. Boudinot, found within the old treaties, land titles, and other various documents that 14 million acres of land were unclaimed, which would later be promoted Oklahoma district (Baird and Goble, p 141). The drive behind the Sears and Boudinot were primarily monetary reasons. Sears was an attorney for the Katy Railroad, which sought to settle the unassigned lands to increase the revenue from the empty region; Boudinot a Cherokee Attorney seeking fortunes (Baird and Goble, p 142). Yet, the Federal government protected the unassigned lands, which had been previously taken from the Creek and Seminole Nations (Baird and Goble, p 142). Although the opening of the Unassigned Lands in 1889 would require pressure from various sides on the Federal government, but to change Federal government s stance of zero homesteading would require the pressure of the powerful railroads, the Boomer movement, and other major parties. The railroads saw the Unassigned Lands as a mean open up new markets to trade; the railroad was a powerful industry in the 19th century (Baird and Goble, p 141). The railroad changed the landscape of the land by bringing in new people, new ideas, new businesses, and more. The bad and useless componets of the blood are sent to the ureter which is where urine is removed from the body. Many countries have adopted different perspectives on how to solve this problem. Two of the main solutions to the healthcare problem are a free market healthcare system or a national healthcare system. Both of these positions have positive and negative attributes that come into play when they are compared with one another. Because of this, Dallas ISD students are forced to rely on the limited sources of educational materials which are reflected by the substantially different median income compared to Highland ISD. The main message focuses on making decisions and choices appealing to a larger group that could have once started off as a decision to be of one s own private benefit. In order, to think like a Freak as Dubner and Levitt put it, one must first be able to put away their moral compass . This is considered the thought processes of oneself that are vague, for they are biased by the views of the persons on what would be the right thing to do according to their political, religious, or ethical outlook. However, when thinking like a freak one must be in an economic sense. People who do not put away their moral guiding will already have a plan on what to do that may not be the most beneficial or it can even be harmful. The authors also emphasize on the three words of I don t know . By using this phrase one can literally put of what they do not know to dig in, and after doing the research and gathering necessary they would be able to disperse their knowledge. An owner could range from a King, Queen, Noble, Tribe, Government, Clergy, or Business owner. Slaves were considered similar to horses in a way because they could be bought, sold, hired out, exchanged, given as a gift, or inherited (Meltzer 9 1). The slave trade was more than five hundred miles long from Africa to the Americas. At least 30,000 55,000 ships went through the middle passage in the time of 1508 1888. Physical Injuries Of A Prophylactic Ankle Brace One of the most common injuries that is relatively seen in all sports, especially in basketball and volleyball, is an acute ankle injury that accounts for about 10 to 25 percent of all injuries. Of all these injuries that occur, almost ΒΎ of them are related to the lateral structures in our ankle. The most common and minor form of these injuries is a lateral ankle sprain, which is caused by an inversion stress to the joint of the ankle. When someone happens to sprain their ankle, the usual preventive measures by athletic trainers and sports doctors are taken into action such as ankle taping, using of an ankle brace, strengthening of the ankle, and therapy. Of all these, a prophylactic ankle brace is often chosen to help reduce the chance of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the factors known to cause these abnormal movements in the joints of the lower extremity is the use of a prophylactic ankle brace. One doctor was able to discover that using an ankle brace during athletic performance did not increase the risk of injury. Our research showed that knee biomechanics known to be risk factors for ACL injury did not appear to be negatively impacted by wearing a lace up ankle brace. (Aerni, Giselle, 2012). If athletes wear prophylactic ankle braces during athletic activities, then they are more likely to be subjected to knee injuries. The study will analyze the effect that prophylactic ankle braces cause to the joints of the knee and determining if it increases the stress placed on them. The primary function of a prophylactic ankle that is being used is to put a restriction on the inversion range of motion it usually has, since it is where most injuries occur in an ankle sprain. What people don t know is that it also decreases your overall performance, total range of motion, and other kinematics as well. When a player is jumping and landing, the use of an ankle brace significantly reduces the amount of internal and external rotation you have in your ankle. So, when the rotation of the subtalar joint in the transverse plane is reduced, your leg and foot aren t able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. The World Of Trade And Business, The Industrial Revolution... Name Institution Course Unit Lecturer Date Introduction In the world of trade and business, the industrial revolution is a period in which most of the modern global economic superpowers established their foundation. This was a period between the 18th and the 19th centuries in which rural, agrarian societies in America and Europe were transformed and became urban and industrial. Prior to this period that began in Britain; the manufacturing was mainly done in homes through hand tools and other basic machines that were not widely in use (MacLeod). The period of industrialization marked the beginning of a shift to power, specialized machinery, mass production and factories. Among other industries, the iron and textile industries played a major role assisted by the development of the steam engine. These developments saw the improvement of transportation, banking and communication (Hillstrom). Despite the restrictions that had been placed on the artisans and other shareholders in Britain to avoid a situation where industrial knowledge was leaked to other countries, her interests in colonies opened up avenues through information and knowledge moved to other regions such as America. Factors leading to industrialization in America The embargo of 1807 The embargo of 1807 is one of the key reasons that led to America rethinking her approach on development. There are multiple cases arguing why it should or shouldn t be lawful to go through with this procedure. Women should have the right to get an abortion as It is her rights to decide if they aren t able to be able have a child, the woman shouldn t have to rely on anyone else, she should be able to make this decision as they have to carry it for 9 months and endure the physical pain. Abortion should not be illegal because it is justifiable in cases of rape, or when the woman has mental health or financial issues. In the case of rape, it is unjustifiable to say that a woman has to carry a baby when she is forced into intercourse with a man who the woman does not please. For those who say that abortion is so inhumane, why doesn t one simply look at the act of rape as disgusting as someone would look at abortion. The victim is going through enough being forced without choice to have a child if she consumes, so why make her carry the baby for 9 months knowing that the perpetrator has given her this child. I don t think that the women should have to be mentally viable for this child or have to take care of a child that is forced upon her own will. There is no denying that Anne Rice s Vampires have a lot to do with homosexuality and Haggerty s highlighting this is in no way a new criticism, but the claim that is must be read as gay is entirely dismissive of the many other sexual paradigms that exist within The Vampire Chronicles. Yet, in Blood Canticle, written five years after Haggerty s essay, it is Rowan who Lestat finally and selflessly loves selflessness not being an attribute we have known greatly in his character until this point. As Haggerty says, Rice is eroticizing the gay man whilst at the same time undermining it by portraying the homosexual relationships as heavily sexual, violent and deviant in comparison to the more nurturing, romantic relationship Lestat has with Rowan. The Vampires in the novels explore sexual deviancy, but are always ultimately punished in doing so. The homosexual parentage of Louis and Lestat to Claudia and of Armand to Sybelle and Benji are both destroyed in their own way. Claudia and Louis final rejection of Lestat and Armand s failure in being able to protect Sybelle and Benji from Marius, are both examples of homosexual families being explored and then finally being punished for going against the accepted social norm of 20th century culture. This supports Haggerty s claim that readers want to explore unauthorized desires and at the same time see them bleed , by exploring and then destroying homosexual relationships repeatedly throughout the collection. External reality is an observable universe, but perspectives differ and thus cause different opinions. To experience internal reality is to confuse one s own reality with a shared reality, resulting in a loss of empathy and disregarding how others are affected. An external mindset displays an understanding of different opinions in a shared world, whereas with internal mindset a person s devotion to a belief becomes their private world. When a person is passionate about their beliefs they tend to disregard other perspectives, or live internally. This is a common practice because, depending upon upbringing, different moral values have been instilled in the person. Typically, people will not partake in activities or actions that defy their morality, so they tend to align with others who share similar values. Through Amanda s inability to separate the real from the fantasy, William s proves that Amanda s main coping mechanism is to retreat from reality. Amanda s role as the forgotten southern belle also impacts her relationship with her daughter Laura, who suffers from crippling social anxiety and an inferiority complex as a result of her disability. Tom is merely a victim of both societal conflicts and his own guilt caused by his decision to seek fulfillment within his own life, rather than surrender to the unsatisfying life which his mother had created for him. One of the greatest factors in Tom s lifestyle that creates his desire to escape this sense of imprisonment, is society s overall attitude toward homosexuality, specifically within his mother. Amanda stated, I took that horrible novel back to the library yes! That hideous book by that insane Mr. Lawrence.
