Racism Is A System Of Power And Privilege
Racism is a system of power and privilege; it can be manifested in people s attitudes but is rooted in
society s structure (Collins, 2016). In the history of America, racism has been an on going issue. Many
people would argue that Americans have come a long way from where America used to be, and while
that is true, why should the American people be satisfied with just that? Why not fight for complete
transformation? Today the United States is more diverse than ever; however, diversity doesn t
automatically mean tolerance. Unfortunately, racism and white privilege still exist and impact
American s everyday lives.
The United States was quite literally founded on very racist terms. One of the first forms in America
was shown by pushing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slaves were not allowed to learn how to read and write, the women were often raped by their masters,
and slaves were brutally beaten for misbehaving. They were not considered people. Later, Abraham
Lincoln became President, and in 1863 the Emancipation Proclamation was written and claimed all
slaves forever free ( Slavery in America, 2017).
Don t think it stops there, fast forward about 100 years later to the Civil Rights Movement. Southern
states created the Jim Crow laws prohibiting blacks from using the same bathrooms, schools, busses
and even theatres as white people. They were by no means equal. This led to many protests, such as
the march on Washington on August 28th 1963, where Martin Luther King Jr. made his famous I Have
a Dream speech. Soon after, President John F. Kennedy passed The Civil Rights Act of 1964, banning
segregation and racial discrimination in the work place and in education. Following this, came the
Voting Rights Act of 1965, allowing black men and women the right to vote. Clearly, throughout
history, Americans have struggled with racism, and it s not over ( Civil Rights Movement, 2017).
In addition, white privilege dominated the United States since the beginning of the new world. White
privilege from the past is hard to define, as it really was a belief, not a concrete concept. Simply put, it
was the belief that everything in this world, economic, social, academic, and historical, belonged to

442nd Regimental Combat Team Analysis
The United States Army s 442nd Regimental Combat Team was comprised of Americans of Japanese
ancestry (Nisei) who fought courageously during World War II against Hitler s Third Reich in Italy
and France. Its members sustained heavy fatalities but earned recognition, battle honors and medals of
valor. Commanders considered them intelligent, conscientious, loyal, and anxious to prove their
devotion to their country ( 442nd Regimental Combat Team. the 442.org, 2015). Interestingly, the
442nd was organized after more than a year after the U.S. War Department declared Americans of
Japanese descent 4 C or enemy aliens, forbidden to serve their country. There were exceptions made
for those already in military service ( The War ). With their bravery ... Show more content on

To help ensure national security, the Army sent four man teams to all ten of War Relocation Authority
internment camps where 110,000 Japanese Americans and Japanese aliens were incarcerated ( The
War ). The mission of the white and Japanese American non commissioned officer teams was to
introduce the volunteer program and answer questions. The visiting team emphasized the new unit
would consolidate loyal Japanese American soldiers, allow them to become a heroic symbol of
democracy admired worldwide, help return camp occupants to a normal lifestyle, and ensure an
expression of the dignity of American citizenship. The prepared remarks concluded, the proof of a
nation s good faith is to be found in whether it moves to restore full privileges at the earliest
opportunity ( 442nd Regimental Combat Team. the 442.org, 2015). Visits by Hawaiian/U.S. soldiers to
the internment camps convinced those incarcerated that these were men to be respected for their
willingness to fight in spite of the trampling of their rights and the unconstitutional incarceration of
their families

The Success of Franklin D. Roosevelt s New Deal
Franklin D. Roosevelt s New Deal package of legislation set a new precedent for United States
involvement in cultural development. The New Deal was characterized by liberal use of government
resources to provide relief, recovery, and reform to a nation that had been reeling from the aftermath
of the Great Depression. While the immediate success of Roosevelt s New Deal in mitigating the
effects of the Great Depression is debatable, it s long lasting impact on American government is still
felt today. One of the earliest major programs of the New Deal was the Glass Steagall Banking
Reform Act, which created the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, or FDIC. The FDIC initially
insured bank deposits up to $5,000 and was integral in restoring Americans confidence in U.S. banks.
As a result, people slowly resumed depositing their money in banks, which in turn helped banks get
back to business. Another early New Deal program was the Unemployment Relief Act, which created
the Civilian Conservation Corps(CCC). Throughout the program s history, the CCC put approximately
three million unemployed young men to work on conservation projects around the country. These
projects consisted of building bridges, constructing dams for flood control and generating energy, and
planting 200 million trees to act as wind barriers in areas afflicted by the Dust Bowl. While these two
early New Deal programs offered relief from banking concerns and rising unemployment, Roosevelt s
administration was

Understanding Canadian History Essay
Understanding Canadian History
Art history contributes to our understanding of Canada s history. Urban history, art history, and
material history documented events as they unfurled.
Demographic concentration, architecture, economics, and cultural aspects are well documented in the
above disciplines of history.
Art itself is about people and their expressions of hope and meaning. Their impressions and thoughts
are transported to their respective canvases. For the most part, these forms of history are less biassed
and they tell the story as it actually was. A tour of the National Gallery showed that art comes in many
forms: landscape paintings, portraiture, carvings, sculptures, metal work, among others. Viewing the

These materials show a progress or evolution of a nation. The various possessions found in a young
Canada showed a very diverse country. Early Canada lacked the resources or the tradesmen to produce
materials for everyday use, such as furniture, precious metals, cutlery, dolls, and other personal items.
That is why many of the items found in Canada are of European origin. It wasn t until years later that
many trades were developed to self sustain early settlers. For example, early glass objects were crude
in form and function. With advances in technology, came clearer glass objects that could be mass
produced. Significant advancements in technology can be noted in most all other materials also.
One could also see development and history though architecture. Although we walk down the streets
of Ottawa going about daily business, most of us are usually unaware of our historical surroundings.
The older unassuming buildings on Sparks Street reveal intricate carvings in stone. Where did these
carvings come from? Numerous architectural wonders in the city of Ottawa attest to the hardships and
fortitude of the early nation builders. These are, however, not mere architectural achievements. These
buildings tell a story about the people, sickness, employment and economics of the time. In fact, the
Royal Canadian Mint was a cholera

Romanticism And Symbolism In William Wordsworth s Poetry
William Wordsworth thrived in the early 1800 s with his poems rich in meaning. This is partly because
he was a Romantic poet, the most popular form in poetry in Europe during the time. Wordsworth
created many masterpieces including The Prelude, I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, and Ode:
Intimations of Immortality. Wordsworth experienced many tragedies throughout his life such as the
death of his mother and father before the age of thirteen, and the death of his two children that
inspired and molded his poems. Wordsworth utilizes nature as a common motif, as evidenced through
his Romantic style, to express his ambivalent feelings for society because of humanity s missing
connection with nature; however, nature continues to give Wordsworth hope. Nearly all Wordworth s
poems have the motif of nature. For example, in I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud Wordsworth uses vivid
imagery and personification to describe nature throughout the poem. In the first stanza Wordsworth
states, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the
breeze (Wordsworth 4 6). He uses nature to express his message. Wordsworth uses nature in nearly all
his poems, mainly because he is a Romantic writer. In Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern
Abbey, Wordsworth says, Do I behold these steep and lofty cliffs, That on a wild secluded scene
impress (Wordsworth 4 5). This poem is primarily about a specific place and the description of it,
including the nature

Low germination rates reduce crop density, which results in indirect yield loss. Late emergence can
result in poor plant performance and a direct yield loss [4], because roots are inadequately established
and have less access to water and nutrients during later stages of vegetative and reproductive growth.
Our knowledge of the regulation of seed germination has developed greatly in recent times, yet
understanding of the genetic and mechanical basis for seed vigour differences is limited. By enhancing
the seedling vigour trait, the agricultural industry might attain a remarkable advancement and
increment in plant development. Seed vigour contributes directly to the economic success of
commercial crops (Finch Savage, 1995) and seed companies therefore need to have the means to
obtain a reliable estimate of seed vigour in order to be able to supply growers with seed lots of high
vigour. This will increase the margin of profit by reducing cost of production and increasing
productivity. Thus, seed vigour, if enhanced, will result in substantial savings. Keeping in view the
above information, this paper will be beneficial in determining the genetic and mechanical basis of
seed vigour.

Michael Kimmel s Manhood In America
In Michael Kimmel s Manhood in America: A Cultural History , he provides a broad, heavily
researched cultural history of the development of manhood and the definition of masculinity
throughout American history. Beginning in the 19th century and ending in the present day
administration of Barack Obama, Kimmel identifies that over time society has demanded more and
more that the common man be self made . Kimmel s overall goal in writing this book is to introduce a
new concept of masculinity that eliminates the battle that every man faces when trying to achieve so
called manhood . He explores the natural instincts that men have and how these instincts are affected
by self control, the surrounding environment, and overall levels of happiness. Starting in the 19th
century, men had an increasing pressure to prove their masculinity. In order to support themselves and
their families, American men s desire to prove masculinity came at the cost of minorities, women, and
even man s own personal happiness. This restlessness of being a ... Show more content on

In my opinion, man s instinct to prove his masculinity, desire for competition, and longing to reach
manhood is natural and cannot be changed. Overtime, this natural instinct has decreased and increased
as the environment has changed. The anger sparked by progressivism in the workforce brought out
this instinct in American men in the 19th century, while further institutions promoting manliness
continued to evolve in the 20th century. In modern day, people such as myself who believe that
everyone should have equal opportunity keeps the instinct of proving my manhood in check.
However, if there weren t conservative men in our country who have this anger against other groups
and have the desire to prove their masculinity, America would appear weak in the eyes of countries

What Are The Stereotypes In My Cousin Vinny
My Cousin Vinny (1992) is a perfect way to show Italians in Hollywood movies. It gives the gangster
stereotype, the family sticks together, names that people associate with Italians, and the defensive
attitude. The main characters that are Italian are Billy Gambini, Stan Rothenstein, Vincent LaGuardia
Vinny Gambini, and Mona Lisa Vito. These characters all carry some sort of stereotype that
corresponds with being Italian. Although some have a more dominant presence of the stereotype, it
can still be found during the movie. The movie starts off with two friends driving around in the south.

if the person is correct. When this happens, Vinny takes the comment and defends himself and mouths

unnecessary. This is portrayed as Italians being rude. The last example of a stereotype would be when

The Physics Of Nuclear Power
A pellet of nuclear fuel weighs roughly 0.1 ounces, but yet has the same amount of energy as a ton of
coal (McLeish, 2008, p. 47). Such a small portion of nuclear fuel can produce a magnificent impact.
This strong energy alternative must be closely analyzed to predict the future of its ability. There are
many characteristics that must be taken into account to permit a nuclear power plant to operate
properly.
The process of generating electrical power consists of several precise steps that must be executed
correctly. The four main fundamental elements of a nuclear power plant are reactor, cooling system,
electrical power generating unit, and safety system (Newton Gilman, 2014). Producing nuclear power
originates from a process known as fission, which occurs when atoms split apart and releases energy
that is used to generate electricity. The author states, the splitting of an atom releases an incredible
amount of heat and gamma radiation, or radiation made of high energy protons (Brain Lamb, 2000). A
chain reaction takes place during nuclear fission. It occurs when an atom of uranium 235 is struck by a
neutron, releasing a tiny amount of heat energy. Ultimately the nucleus of the uranium becomes
unstable and splits into two smaller nuclei, meanwhile releasing two or three more neutrons in the
process (McLeish, 2008, p. 8). While dealing with a chain reaction critical mass must be taken into
account. Critical mass is knowing the smallest mass of a fissionable material

the background discussion, I would show the students maps that indicate the prevalence of Lyme
disease, and how they have changed from the 1980s to the present to reflect an increase in cases.
In order to show how the disease is contracted, I would reference a map of the United States and
review the most common areas for Lyme disease occurrence. I would proceed to discuss various
outdoor activities, which would allow the students to understand that Lyme disease can be picked up

Basket making was normally done by the elders of the tribe. The elders would sit around large fires
weaving baskets and singing ancient songs or prayers. Phillip Martin said, The baskets were made out
of any materials found in the area. The most common material used was tall grass (Martin 1). The
baskets can be found in various sizes and different configurations. While in the Hall of the Tribes we
found a basket that was taller than a fully grown man. The basket was made out of tall grass and
weighed well over one hundred pounds. In order to color a basket tall grass would have to be cut and
dried on drying racks. After the grass was dried baskets would be decorated with dye. In order to dye a
basket a particular color different herbs, fruit berries, flowers, grasses of color, and certain species of
trees were selected to make the different dye colors. The materials used for dye were then crushed or
pulverized into powder and made into paste or liquid paint. After the dye paint was made the tall grass
was soaked in the desired color and again placed on drying racks. Weavers then selected the desired
color stained grass and wove it into their baskets. After we departed the Hall of Tribes, we ventured
out into the surrounding snow covered grounds to see the ancient structures and ceremonial dwellings

Alien Abductions Essay
The Psychology Behind Alien Abductions
Alien abductions are no longer things of science fiction novel and movies. In the late 1940s, UFO and
alien sightings became a nation wide phenomenon. With the reported sightings and abductions, came
mass media, but also heavy criticism. If nothing else, these descriptions illustrate that the AAE is a
dynamic, elaborate, and involved experience, rich in contextual detail, with considerable perceptual,
psychological, cognitive, and physical concomitants (p. 255). Over the course of seventy years,
scientists have delved into the mindset of these victims and uncovered the underlying causes of the
reported experiences. Extensive research has been conducted to determine the psychological aspects

Donald Spence believes that this may be the case in his article Abduction Tales as Metaphors . The
alien narrative is a substitute for the cultural crisis Robert Thoreau describes as a less empowered,
more alienated, and less predictable citizens (Spence 177). Most abductions have the similar traits of
powerlessness and uncertainty, while powerful beings degrade their bodies and leave them
traumatized (177). When contrasting modern day abductions and mid twentieth century ones, Spence
found that the narratives are also reflective of our times. Early aliens were generally characterized as a
jovial creatures, while modern day extraterrestrials are described as malevolent creatures. The stark
contrast is a subliminal metaphor for the cultural atmosphere of the time. The early Kennedy and
Eisenhower years marker great progress within the American society and stability. As the political and
cultural climates have changed, the tales of little gray men turn into an ominous fight for freedom.
Deciphering the actual cause of reports alien abductions may never be solved, but many psychologists
have theories. While Spence believes the alien abduction phenomenon is a metaphor for our society,
psychologist Roy Baumeister believes reports are made by masochists. A person who is sexually
gratified by pain, degradation, etc., that is self imposed or imposed by others. Dr. Baumeister believes

Arguments Against Cult Freedom
Recently, there has been a lot of controversy pertaining to cults. A majority of people would like the
groups banned or restricted for a majority of reasons. The controversies are in regards to religious
freedom against potential danger. Religious cults are protected by our freedom of religion rights and
should be allowed to exist unless they involve harmful, destructive actions.
Cults are defined as unorthodoxed mainstream religious practices. The cult stereotype, characterizes
these religious bodies as being led by a charismatic leader and recruiting members through persuasion
and other types of manipulation (ProQuest Staff). It had been defined as a group of people who had
been brainwashed by a megalomaniacal persons who imposed severe ... Show more content on

When he and his followers arrived he began doing crazy things, such as splitting up families, forcing
manual labor, and sexually assaulting members. His worst and final act happened November 18, 1978,
when he felt his cult was threatened and beginning to falling apart. Jim Jones stated, So in my opinion
is that you be kind to your children and be kind to your seniors and take the potion like they used to in
ancient Greece and step over quietly, because we are not committing suicide; It s a revolutionary act.
We can t go back; they won t leave us alone (Bio.com Editors). Jones then forced his whole cult to
drink the Kool aid, which included cyanide, a deadly poison. Nine hundred nine people were killed in
all, including over two hundred children and babies. If anyone did not take the poison, they were shot.
Four people from the whole cult survived (Bio.com Editors).
There have been many cult attacks that target the general population of countries, states, or cities. The
Japanese cult, Aum Shinrikyo, poisoned the Tokyo subway system with a deadly nerve gas, sarin, in
1995 (Ignatius). This attack caused thirteen deaths and an astounding 6,252 injuries. Because there
was no law against manufactured poisonous gas, no suspects were prosecuted (Ignatius). It is scary
knowing, that a majority of cults have access to chemical and biological weapons that could kill
thousands. Cults are beginning to

Stereotypes Of Private School Students
I first became a private schooler when I attended pre school at age 4 and maintained this group until
my senior year of high school. Throughout my twelve plus years of a private education, I have seen
and heard nearly every stereotype, both complimentary and derogatory, accurate and erroneous, as
well as, prejudicial and supportive. Private schoolers are typified by false stereotypes just as any other
minority group is. For example, private school students are expected, by society as a whole, to be
successful and intelligent by default. Yet, there are some stereotypes that hold true, such as the
majority of private school students hold academic achievement as paramount alongside respect and
courteousness to others. Private school students are generally students in a family with a high
socioeconomic status and parents with a college education or higher. At large, society tends to typify
private school students as conceited, haughty, and arrogant. While this is true for some private school
students, it does not describe the majority of students of these students in an accurate light. I was
placed in the private school environment by my parents at age 4, and by my own personal decision, I
decided to continue until university. This decision was made in order to raise me in a safer and more
controlled setting, and personally, to remove as many negative influences as possible.
Due to the frequent discussion of superiority between the two schooling methods, much research has

Good Country People By Flannery O Connor
Flannery O Conner is known for her southern grotesque and partly religious short stories that are filled
with lessons while some people might even call them parables. Her short stories are also filled with
interesting characters that are known for being frank, ironic, and a bit racist. Flannery O Connor s
short story Good Country People displays irony through the characters names, as well as through the
actions of both Manly Pointer and Joy.
The author gives each of the characters in this story a name that is ironic since the characters behave
in a way that contradicts their name. The first character we are introduced to is Mrs. Freeman. She is a
free spirited women who loves to be involved in everything. She has no problem in ... Show more

She also claimed that she hired the Freemans because they were good country people which makes the
reader wonder if the Freemans are good people or not since Mrs. Hopewell is known to incorrectly
judge people. Mrs. Hopewell believes she is always in control of what is going on, but she has no
control over her thirty two year old daughter. Joy does show respect to her at the presence of the
tenants: she slams the door and calls her mother woman while her mother was eating, with Mrs.
Freeman, sitting beside (Dan 37).
We are also introduced to the one of the Main characters Joy. Although her name could be referred to
as rejoice, gladness, and happiness, she is the exact opposite. This irony begins from the beginning of
the story. Every morning Joy would get up, lumber into the bathroom and slam the door (O Conner
261) before she even spoke to anybody. We learn that she took the academic root and received a PhD
in Philosophy, which made her a nihilist and indifferent to other people and to the world. We also find
out that she changes her name from Joy to Hulga once she turns twenty one, which has an uglier
connotation to it when compared to her previous name. Joy Hulga creates this fantasy of herself that
she is better than other people and more sophisticated because of her age and her degree, but despite
this, she acts like a child. She would wear a six year old skirt and a yellow sweatshirt with a faded
cowboy on a horse embossed on it

Evil Dead Reflection
One Friday, September 29, 2017, I visited the City Theatre (inside Hockeytown Café) to watch Evil
Dead: The Musical written by George Reinblatt and presented by Olympia Entertainment and Sweat
Equity Studio. When I first arrived, I was greeted by the Usher who gave me a program. In the
Program, there is a bolded section with the name and title of those that made the production possible.
The director for this play was Jamie Warron, and the music director was Timothy Martuch. In the
second and third page of the program is a section called Who s Who , which serves the purpose giving
a brief description of the crew involved and their titles. In class we looked at some of the job duties for
those involved in a play, and this can relate to that description of each job and individual. Evil Dead is
about four college students who go on a trip for spring break to an abandoned cabin in the woods.
There they find a book that helps them release some sort of evil spirit. Each of them start to get
attacked by this evil spirit and killing one by one. In the performance that I witnessed, the story was
told in a comedic way compared to the Evil Dead film, which is more of a scarier and serious form of
the story. To me, the play seemed to have two themes, perseverance and good versus evil.
Perseverance to survive from the evil being who wanted to kill all of them. One of the characters cut
his arm off in order to not allow the evil spirit to take control over him. To me, the purpose of the

Analysis Of Book Of Judith By Artemisia Gentileschi
I think it s natural for no matter viewers or historians trying to psychoanalyze artists artworks. When a
person appreciates an artwork, he/she would analyze different aspects including stylistic
characteristics and cultural context like what we are practicing now. I believe that Artemisia
Gentileschi was somehow working out her feelings about her circumstances through her work.
Although it is just a biblical scene from the Old Testament Book of Judith and a typical example of
Baroque art due to the Catholic Counter Reformation, Artemisia Gentileschi painted this scene at least
six times in a dramatic way. Looking at the painting, the expression on Judith s face is extremely
vivid. She looks determined for pressing Holofernes head hard

Carson 2015 Student Number: 1302170 Words: 2113 Critically discuss the value of the concept of
social defences, in explaining why organisations* may fail to meet their primary task. Introduction
Freud (1894) believes the ego uses defense mechanisms to protect itself from anxiety, which arises as
a byproduct of the conflict between the competing demands of the id and the superego. Building on
Freud s theory, Klein (1959) theorised that the infant experiences anxiety in its first few months of life
and deals with it by splitting and projective identification. The internal persecutory anxiety is

The analogy of an iceberg is often used to demonstrate that what lies below the surface of the water
(the unconscious) is greater than that which is visible above the water (the conscious). These anxiety
defense mechanisms are important in that they shape an individuals behaviour, which in turn will have
an effect on the individual within and organisation and in turn can affect the organisation as a whole,
not least as regards anxiety that arises when confronted by change. Using these psychoanalytic
theories, this paper will give a greater insight into the understanding of the functioning of
organisations, with an emphasis on anxiety and change and the ways in which individuals and groups
defend against this thus failing to achieve the group s primary task. This paper will use ideas that
began with Freud and further developed by Klein and then Bion particularly Bion and his study of
groups. *For the purpose of this essay, the terms group and organisations will be used intermittently. A
Potted History Before the 1930s, the investigation of groups and organisations was not a generally
recognised theory of study (De Board, R 1978). Psychoanalytic theory initially concentrated on
individuals and was first extended to group life by Freud (1922) Later, Melanie Klein s (1946) object
relations theory both built upon and departed from Freud s theories and

Fda Approval Process Of Drugs Essay
Joston Toney Nicole Thompson English 2010 Online 03 December 2016 The FDAApproval Process
of Drugs When I was a kid, I always wondered why it took so long for an ill person to become well
again. I always thought that if the ill person went to the doctor they would be back to normal the next
day, but that s not the case. For some people it took several days, weeks, months, and even years to
conquer an illness but as a child I never could understand that. I don t know how many times I ve
asked my mom or dad how come the doctors don t get together and make a miracle drug that could
heal anything and everything. It wasn t until the age of 15 when my grandmother was diagnosed with
breast cancer that I understood why it took so long for others to heal and the process that they had to
endure in order to be healthy again. Shortly after my grandmother s diagnosis, I started looking into
what it would take to get a drug that would cure cancer through the approval process on the shelf to
save some many others just like my grandmother. But I kept running into a dead end. Everything
seemed to keep pointing towards chemotherapy and radiation. Although I wanted something to heal
my grandmother fast, chemotherapy and radiation was the only solution if I had wish to see her watch
me graduate high school. I went to almost every appointment with her to watch how it helped
strengthen but also watch as it drained her energy. A month of chemotherapy and a few weeks of
radiation and my

Health Plan For Increase Expenditure
There are a number of products and initiatives being used by health plans to control expenditures and
maintain market competitiveness. Recent slowing in health expenditures has largely been due to price
changes, a shift from inpatient to outpatient care, and increased coverage. However, here I will focus
on operational changes within the health plan that can be made to decrease expenditures. I will discuss
how investing in disease management programs, wellness incentives, and value based insurance
design now can be used to control rising healthcare expenditures in the future while adding value for
consumers. I will also discuss the challenges involved with implementing these initiatives.
Disease Management Programs:
Background
A small portion of the patient population accounts for a disproportionate amount of health care
expenditures primarily due to chronic illness (Shelton, 2002). Because of this, and the overall rise in
healthcare costs, stakeholders have been searching for ways to target this small but expensive group of
people. One way is through disease management programs. It is a common belief that education and
preventive measures make it easier to manage chronic illness and reduce adverse outcomes including
lengthy hospitalizations (Shelton, 2002). Although these programs are fairly new and there isn t much
data to support or refute their success, this is an area worth exploring to potentially curve skyrocketing
healthcare expenditures.

The Tippett Theory Of Bingo
Bingo continues to remain a game of chance, but there are bingo secrets winning that can increase
your odds even when you have no control over the outcome. In general, this simple game will use
simple methods because of its simple nature. First, arrive early because being ready when that first
number gets drawn can increase your odds. This may not be a scientifically proven theory, but a lot of
professional athletes show up to their competitions early so that they can prepare. Bingo might not be
a professional sport, but when you show up early, you can buy the books needed, catch up with old
friends and buy the drinks and snacks you want. In essence, it sets you up for more comfort. You do
not want to rush in and throw everything you have on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before you attempt this, you should first understand your capabilities. Buying too many books, you
have higher chances of feeling overwhelmed with information and missing numbers when called. That
wastes money and keeps you from making progress. While this strategy says that you should buy as
many books as possible, you have to know your limit. How much does this raise your statistical odds
of winning? When you have 20 other players and everyone uses one book, you have a five percent
chance of winning. In contrast, when everyone uses one book and you play bingo with four books,
you raised your odds of winning by 17 percent. To determine the odds of a bingo game, divide the
number of books by the number of people who are playing. In most cases, you will have to do a rough
estimate, but it does give you a better idea about your chances of

Abstract
Kraft Foods, Incorporated has a long history, but even large companies who have been around a long

Kraft amp; Brothers Company in 1909. They started to produce their own processed cheese in 1915.
This method was eventually patented in 1916. This business continued to thrive, and in 1930, National
Dairy Products Corporation acquired it. The history of Kraft Foods Incorporated is a long and

these three founders were a huge part of the foundation of this business. Through this long history,
Kraft has acquired more than 70 major brands (The History of, n.d., pg. 5). Kraft Foods Incorporated
is now the world s second largest food company with annual revenues of $49.2 billion (Kraft Foods,
2010, pg. 3). They are obviously a force to be reckoned with in the food industry, so how did they
make such a big mistake, and how did it affect them in the long run?
Ready to Roll Sweepstakes In June of 1989, Kraft Foods Incorporated put a promotional sweepstakes
in newspapers in Chicago and Houston in an attempt to attract the attention of those markets which
they did but not necessarily in a good way. This promotion was called Ready to Roll, and it involved
matching game pieces. The right half of these game pieces were printed out onto promotional flyers
found in newspapers in Chicago and Houston. The left half of the game pieces could be found in
specially marked Kraft cheese slice packages. If these pieces were matched together and sent in by the
June 16 deadline then they could win

Huron Community Reflection
I found a quote about three years ago on a wall at my camp that has stuck with me ever since. Each
one of us can make a difference. Together we make change. The quote is by an American politician by
the name Barbara Mikulski and although I do not know what her personal beliefs are, personally this
is a mantra I aspire to live by. I want to make a difference in the world, and my first step out of high
school on that path would be at the Centre for Global Studies at Huron University College. I believe
that one of the things that makes Huron special is it s smaller size in comparison to many other
universities. I spent my first three years of high school in a large school with classes with as many as

  • 2. Racism Is A System Of Power And Privilege Racism is a system of power and privilege; it can be manifested in people s attitudes but is rooted in society s structure (Collins, 2016). In the history of America, racism has been an on going issue. Many people would argue that Americans have come a long way from where America used to be, and while that is true, why should the American people be satisfied with just that? Why not fight for complete transformation? Today the United States is more diverse than ever; however, diversity doesn t automatically mean tolerance. Unfortunately, racism and white privilege still exist and impact American s everyday lives. The United States was quite literally founded on very racist terms. One of the first forms in America was shown by pushing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Slaves were not allowed to learn how to read and write, the women were often raped by their masters, and slaves were brutally beaten for misbehaving. They were not considered people. Later, Abraham Lincoln became President, and in 1863 the Emancipation Proclamation was written and claimed all slaves forever free ( Slavery in America, 2017). Don t think it stops there, fast forward about 100 years later to the Civil Rights Movement. Southern states created the Jim Crow laws prohibiting blacks from using the same bathrooms, schools, busses and even theatres as white people. They were by no means equal. This led to many protests, such as the march on Washington on August 28th 1963, where Martin Luther King Jr. made his famous I Have a Dream speech. Soon after, President John F. Kennedy passed The Civil Rights Act of 1964, banning segregation and racial discrimination in the work place and in education. Following this, came the Voting Rights Act of 1965, allowing black men and women the right to vote. Clearly, throughout history, Americans have struggled with racism, and it s not over ( Civil Rights Movement, 2017). In addition, white privilege dominated the United States since the beginning of the new world. White privilege from the past is hard to define, as it really was a belief, not a concrete concept. Simply put, it was the belief that everything in this world, economic, social, academic, and historical, belonged to people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. 442nd Regimental Combat Team Analysis The United States Army s 442nd Regimental Combat Team was comprised of Americans of Japanese ancestry (Nisei) who fought courageously during World War II against Hitler s Third Reich in Italy and France. Its members sustained heavy fatalities but earned recognition, battle honors and medals of valor. Commanders considered them intelligent, conscientious, loyal, and anxious to prove their devotion to their country ( 442nd Regimental Combat Team. the 442.org, 2015). Interestingly, the 442nd was organized after more than a year after the U.S. War Department declared Americans of Japanese descent 4 C or enemy aliens, forbidden to serve their country. There were exceptions made for those already in military service ( The War ). With their bravery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To help ensure national security, the Army sent four man teams to all ten of War Relocation Authority internment camps where 110,000 Japanese Americans and Japanese aliens were incarcerated ( The War ). The mission of the white and Japanese American non commissioned officer teams was to introduce the volunteer program and answer questions. The visiting team emphasized the new unit would consolidate loyal Japanese American soldiers, allow them to become a heroic symbol of democracy admired worldwide, help return camp occupants to a normal lifestyle, and ensure an expression of the dignity of American citizenship. The prepared remarks concluded, the proof of a nation s good faith is to be found in whether it moves to restore full privileges at the earliest opportunity ( 442nd Regimental Combat Team. the 442.org, 2015). • 4. The Success of Franklin D. Roosevelt s New Deal Franklin D. Roosevelt s New Deal package of legislation set a new precedent for United States involvement in cultural development. The New Deal was characterized by liberal use of government resources to provide relief, recovery, and reform to a nation that had been reeling from the aftermath of the Great Depression. While the immediate success of Roosevelt s New Deal in mitigating the effects of the Great Depression is debatable, it s long lasting impact on American government is still felt today. One of the earliest major programs of the New Deal was the Glass Steagall Banking Reform Act, which created the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, or FDIC. The FDIC initially insured bank deposits up to $5,000 and was integral in restoring Americans confidence in U.S. banks. As a result, people slowly resumed depositing their money in banks, which in turn helped banks get back to business. Another early New Deal program was the Unemployment Relief Act, which created the Civilian Conservation Corps(CCC). Throughout the program s history, the CCC put approximately three million unemployed young men to work on conservation projects around the country. These projects consisted of building bridges, constructing dams for flood control and generating energy, and planting 200 million trees to act as wind barriers in areas afflicted by the Dust Bowl. While these two early New Deal programs offered relief from banking concerns and rising unemployment, Roosevelt s administration was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Urban history, art history, and material history documented events as they unfurled. Demographic concentration, architecture, economics, and cultural aspects are well documented in the above disciplines of history. Art itself is about people and their expressions of hope and meaning. Their impressions and thoughts are transported to their respective canvases. For the most part, these forms of history are less biassed and they tell the story as it actually was. Early Canada lacked the resources or the tradesmen to produce materials for everyday use, such as furniture, precious metals, cutlery, dolls, and other personal items. That is why many of the items found in Canada are of European origin. It wasn t until years later that many trades were developed to self sustain early settlers. For example, early glass objects were crude in form and function. With advances in technology, came clearer glass objects that could be mass produced. Significant advancements in technology can be noted in most all other materials also. One could also see development and history though architecture. Although we walk down the streets of Ottawa going about daily business, most of us are usually unaware of our historical surroundings. The older unassuming buildings on Sparks Street reveal intricate carvings in stone. Where did these carvings come from? Numerous architectural wonders in the city of Ottawa attest to the hardships and fortitude of the early nation builders. These are, however, not mere architectural achievements. These buildings tell a story about the people, sickness, employment and economics of the time. In fact, the Royal Canadian Mint was a cholera ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Romanticism And Symbolism In William Wordsworth s Poetry William Wordsworth thrived in the early 1800 s with his poems rich in meaning. This is partly because he was a Romantic poet, the most popular form in poetry in Europe during the time. Wordsworth created many masterpieces including The Prelude, I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud, and Ode: Intimations of Immortality. Wordsworth experienced many tragedies throughout his life such as the death of his mother and father before the age of thirteen, and the death of his two children that inspired and molded his poems. Wordsworth utilizes nature as a common motif, as evidenced through his Romantic style, to express his ambivalent feelings for society because of humanity s missing connection with nature; however, nature continues to give Wordsworth hope. Nearly all Wordworth s poems have the motif of nature. For example, in I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud Wordsworth uses vivid imagery and personification to describe nature throughout the poem. In the first stanza Wordsworth states, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze (Wordsworth 4 6). He uses nature to express his message. Wordsworth uses nature in nearly all his poems, mainly because he is a Romantic writer. In Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey, Wordsworth says, Do I behold these steep and lofty cliffs, That on a wild secluded scene impress (Wordsworth 4 5). This poem is primarily about a specific place and the description of it, including the nature ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Michael Kimmel s Manhood In America In Michael Kimmel s Manhood in America: A Cultural History , he provides a broad, heavily researched cultural history of the development of manhood and the definition of masculinity throughout American history. Beginning in the 19th century and ending in the present day administration of Barack Obama, Kimmel identifies that over time society has demanded more and more that the common man be self made . Kimmel s overall goal in writing this book is to introduce a new concept of masculinity that eliminates the battle that every man faces when trying to achieve so called manhood . He explores the natural instincts that men have and how these instincts are affected by self control, the surrounding environment, and overall levels of happiness. Starting in the 19th century, men had an increasing pressure to prove their masculinity. In order to support themselves and their families, American men s desire to prove masculinity came at the cost of minorities, women, and even man s own personal happiness. • 14. The Physics Of Nuclear Power A pellet of nuclear fuel weighs roughly 0.1 ounces, but yet has the same amount of energy as a ton of coal (McLeish, 2008, p. 47). Such a small portion of nuclear fuel can produce a magnificent impact. This strong energy alternative must be closely analyzed to predict the future of its ability. There are many characteristics that must be taken into account to permit a nuclear power plant to operate properly. The process of generating electrical power consists of several precise steps that must be executed correctly. The four main fundamental elements of a nuclear power plant are reactor, cooling system, electrical power generating unit, and safety system (Newton Gilman, 2014). Producing nuclear power originates from a process known as fission, which occurs when atoms split apart and releases energy that is used to generate electricity. The author states, the splitting of an atom releases an incredible amount of heat and gamma radiation, or radiation made of high energy protons (Brain Lamb, 2000). A chain reaction takes place during nuclear fission. It occurs when an atom of uranium 235 is struck by a neutron, releasing a tiny amount of heat energy. Ultimately the nucleus of the uranium becomes unstable and splits into two smaller nuclei, meanwhile releasing two or three more neutrons in the process (McLeish, 2008, p. 8). While dealing with a chain reaction critical mass must be taken into account. Critical mass is knowing the smallest mass of a fissionable material ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For the disease background, I would start with a map of the United States and circle the most common areas for Lyme disease occurrence, as well as Lyme, Connecticut, where the disease was first discovered. I would then draw out a group of people who appear to be in pain, with swollen joints and large rashes. These people would be examined by a doctor named Willy Burgdorfer, who discovers a specific bacterium, Borrelia burgdorferi, that is causing their suffering (bayarealyme.org). To conclude the background discussion, I would show the students maps that indicate the prevalence of Lyme disease, and how they have changed from the 1980s to the present to reflect an increase in cases. Most abductions have the similar traits of powerlessness and uncertainty, while powerful beings degrade their bodies and leave them traumatized (177). When contrasting modern day abductions and mid twentieth century ones, Spence found that the narratives are also reflective of our times. Early aliens were generally characterized as a jovial creatures, while modern day extraterrestrials are described as malevolent creatures. The stark contrast is a subliminal metaphor for the cultural atmosphere of the time. The early Kennedy and Eisenhower years marker great progress within the American society and stability. Throughout my twelve plus years of a private education, I have seen and heard nearly every stereotype, both complimentary and derogatory, accurate and erroneous, as well as, prejudicial and supportive. Private schoolers are typified by false stereotypes just as any other minority group is. For example, private school students are expected, by society as a whole, to be successful and intelligent by default. Yet, there are some stereotypes that hold true, such as the majority of private school students hold academic achievement as paramount alongside respect and courteousness to others. When I first arrived, I was greeted by the Usher who gave me a program. In the Program, there is a bolded section with the name and title of those that made the production possible. The director for this play was Jamie Warron, and the music director was Timothy Martuch. In the second and third page of the program is a section called Who s Who , which serves the purpose giving a brief description of the crew involved and their titles. In class we looked at some of the job duties for those involved in a play, and this can relate to that description of each job and individual. Because of this, and the overall rise in healthcare costs, stakeholders have been searching for ways to target this small but expensive group of people.
