The Impact Of Canadian Policing During The Nineteenth Century
2) There has been an evolution of police work in Canada. A number of events have shaped Canadian
policing, and in particular have shaped three different kinds. These are municipal, provincial, and
federal police services. All these services had to start from somewhere. In many respects, the
emergence of Canadian policing during the nineteenth century closely mirrored the development of
punishment and corrections (Griffiths 2004).
In the earliest days, policing in communities was carried out by community residents. Later, some
communities started to rely on militias and the navy, while other regions remained unpoliced.
These situations were obviously not sufficient to deal with the rising problems faced in an
industrialized society. These times are categorized as early municipal policing. Complaints by
fishermen led to the first court of justice in North America in Trinity Bay. These early attempts
eventually failed. The English appointed fishing admirals , who were captains of fishing vessels
empowered to settle disputes. These men were untrained, and normally no better than the people
they were to police. In 1792 a Royal proclamation was issued that authorized the Governor of
Newfoundland to appoint justices and constables (Course Notes). Early municipal police had three
main mandates which were: to police conflicts with ethnic groups, to maintain moral standards by
enforcing laws against drunkenness, prostitution and gambling, and to apprehend criminals.

Essay on The Sixties, by Terry H. Anderson
The Sixties, by Terry H. Anderson, takes the reader on a journey through one of the most turbulent
decades in American life. Beginning with the crew cut conformity of 1950s Cold War culture and
ending with the transition into the uneasy 70s, Anderson notes the rise of an idealistic generation
of baby boomers, widespread social activism, and revolutionary counterculture. Anderson explores
the rapidly shifting mood of the country with the optimism during the Kennedy years, the liberal
advances of Johnson s Great Society, and the growing conflict over Vietnam that nearly tore
America apart. The book also navigates through different themes regarding the decade s different
currents of social change; including the anti war movement, the civil... Show more content on

This thematic standpoint in return provides ground for a second major theme; the 1960s was home
to the birth of civil rights movements and forever changed the American idea of the status quo. To a
large extent, it is agreeable that that the 1960s serves as the era that led to activism in the US.
Anderson is able to confirm and strengthen his standpoint by the fact that it was during one of the
greatest milestones of the 1960s, the Vietnam War, that for the first time in the history of the US,
the government was subjected to criticism and attacks against their ways . This can be evidenced
by the fact that Americans, which were majority college students, took to the streets to protest
government action. At the time, the policies and actions put forth by the government were seen to
be very secretive and wrong. Citizens were hastily informed about the need to stop the spread of
communism at the expense of capitalism. Not only were government policies seen as corrupt, the
government had kept the American society in the dark concerning the actual situation in Vietnam.
There seemed to be no cost that was worth retreating from Vietnam. Draft calls were constantly
increasing and the war itself began to result in federal expenditures, deficits, and inflationary
pressures ( Anderson 90). For some Americans, the war not only damaging, but unfair. Mexican
Americans were the poorest and

Major Organs Involved In The Digestive System
The Digestive system plays an important role in the function of the human body. The digestive
system converts food to energy your body needs to complete everyday activities. The digestive
system also takes the waste in your body and eliminates waste. Major organs included in the process
of the digestive system include the mouth, esophagus, stomach, and small intestine. The mouth is
where the process begins. Saliva is added to the food that you chew, which makes it able to travel
down the esophagus.
The esophagus connects the mouth to the stomach, where the process continues. The stomach
holds food while it is being mixed with enzymes. The small intestines release nutrients from the
broken down food. These nutrients fuel the body and make it

The Importance Of Human Physical Strength In The Ancient...
Humans in the ancient world definitely took advantage of their physical strength. Five great
examples of this are: building roads, quarrying, operating cranes, digging wells, and constructing
tunnels. All of these tasks could only be completed with an immense amount of endurance and
strength. Anything from laying rocks to digging out an entire tunnelwas a difficult and grueling task.
In many cases, a great deal of human physical strength was required to fully exploit the
technologies and technical practices developed in the ancient world. Building roadways in ancient
Italy required an extensive amount of physical strength. Creating roadways required quarrying,
lumbering, and drainage (Oleson). The workers initially began by placing curb stones to create the
defined border of the road(Oleson). Ditches were dug on the outside of both rows of curb stones
for storm drainage (Oleson). The land between the curb stones was then completely removed by a
large amount of digging and cutting (Oleson). The excavated ditch was then filled with stones,
sand, and other materials that were dug up from the ditches or the land around the road, forming a
solid foundation (Oleson). Laying down gravel, carrying the stones, transporting them, and
carefully placing them down required a great deal of upper and lower body strength. On top of the
layer of stones and sand was a layer of finer gravel (Oleson). The top layer of the road was made of
polygonal basalt blocks that formed a

Clinton V. Trump s Presidential Election
Clinton V. Trump This year s presidential election has been riddled with controversy and drama.
The two presidential nominees, Hillary Clinton, and Donald Trump, each have questionable
acts. As voting time approaches and the debates come to an end many individuals must decide
who is fit to run the country. By considering their backgrounds, verifying the validity of their
policies, and brining into consideration their performance in the debates, a suitable president
should be found. Born in Chicago, Hillary Clinton grew up in a middle class family living in the
suburbs of Illinois. Clinton first attended Wellesley College, then continued her education at
Yale. In 1972 Hillary Clinton was one of 27 women in her graduating class, with a degree in Law
she moved to Arkansas. While in Arkansas she became a member of the Arkansas University
faculty, teaching law. After becoming first lady in 1992, Clinton spent her time fighting for
children and women s rights, working with CHIP to provide affordable healthcare. In 2000
Clinton served as the first female senator of New York. (Everything You need to Know About
Hillary Clinton). In 2008 Clinton decided to run for presidency but later suspended her campaign
after the majority went to Barrack Obama. When Obama was elected, he nominated her for the
position of Secretary of State which she took in 2009 (Hillary Clinton Biography). In Clintons
2016 campaign she has focused on making debt free college possible. To make debt free

The Theories And Techniques Of Psychoanalysis
Key Question 6 Sigismund Schlomo Freud was an Austrian neurologist, best known for
developing the theories and techniques of psychoanalysis. Freud was born in Freiberg on May
6th, 1856. Freud and his family moved to Vienna when he was four years old. He lived and
worked there for the remainder of his life. After receiving his medical degree in 1881, he became
engaged and later had 6 children of his own. His youngest daughter Anna, grew up to be a
distinguished psychoanalyst herself. After his graduation, Freud set up his own practise and
began treating patients with various psychological disorders. He considered himself a scientist
rather than a doctor and he aspired to understand the journey of human knowledge and
experiences. Freud developed the psychosexual theory and he believed there were five stages of
development. Oral, anal, phallic, latent and genital. The first stage, oral is from birth up until age
one. In the first stage of personality development, according to Freud, the libido is centered in a
baby s mouth. The rooting and the sucking reflex is very important. It gets much satisfaction from
putting all sorts of things in its mouth to satisfy the libido, and thus its id demands. Which at this
stage in life are oral, or mouth orientated, such as sucking, biting, and breast feeding. Stage number
two is anal which is from age one up until age three. During this stage, Freud believed that the main
libido focus was controlling bladder and bowel movements. Success

Discover Your True North
Can Discover Your True North Truly Develop an Authentic Leader? Most people, at some point
in time, have desired to assume a position of leadership, in any form or capacity; however, few
truly know how to go about it. There are many resources and books to educate someone about
leadership, but this evaluation will be on a specific book, Discover Your True North, which is
considered by many to be the ultimate book for learning to lead authentically. Bill George, author of
Discover Your True North, wishes to equip leaders with strategies and principles to become
authentic leaders. Authentic leadershipcan be defined as when a person leads with intent, considers
the success of the entire team and initiative, dedicates appropriate time to all facets of life, and
leads with integrity. Discover Your True North is a superb example of a leadership book that
equips people with the principles, and necessary skills, to become more authentic and proficient
leaders. This book also helps the reader identify their optimal operating role in the workplace; as
well as employing the opinions and personal stories of countless top CEO s, so as to further
inform the reader of successful leadership strategies. Discover Your True North equips people with

aid in the development of a leader not the creation of one. Another point which must be made in
support of the book is that Discover Your True North is far different to many clichГ© books
because it supplies practical and situational advice (which has been found to work by many
professionals) that can have measurable success, unlike many other

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Insomnia
Insomnia
Sleep is considerably one of the most beneficial things there is for our health. It improves several
functions of our body and affects our overall mood. However, not many people get the amount of
sleep needed every night. Several factors can influence that, including disorders. According to a
study done by Columbia University, 50 to 70 million Americans suffer from a sleeping disorder.
About 30 percent of these people are struggling with insomnia ( What is Insomnia? ). Insomnia is
the inability to get quality sleep during the night.
Insomnia occurs when someone has a hard time falling asleep or sleeping through the night. It can

Therapy and medications are recommended as treatment.
Stressful events, traveling in different time zones, or illnesses may trigger this disorder because
the person s body is not used to different environments or situations they might have recently
faced. Keeping a constant routine is an ideal way to avoid missing out on the much needed sleep
to feel refreshed (Insomnia). It is also advised that people manage their stress in a healthy way
in order to get the recommended eight hours of sleep every night. Some of these ways include
being social in a more positive way, regularly exercising, taking time for yourself to relax, or
coping in a more spiritual way. It is recommended that you relax by lying down in a comfortable,
quiet room. Focusing on your breathing for several minutes and meditating can help your brain
slow down and the rest of your body will be able to rest.
The National Sleep Foundation found that 90 percent of Americans regularly use electronics before
bed. Smart phones are linked to having trouble falling asleep and interrupting sleep (Helmer). The
unnatural light triggers brain activity, when you are supposed to be winding down for the night.
The phone light fools with the chemicals in the brain that encourage sleep. Melatonin is the
hormone that keeps a constant internal clock in the sleep cycle. Studies have shown that up to two
hours of electronic light exposure decreased melatonin levels by nearly 22

Why Is Lymphoma Important
Lymphoma

Introduction
Lymphoma is the name of a diverse group of cancers of the lymphatic system, a connecting
network of glands, organs and vessels whose principle cell is the lymphocyte. When lymphoma
occurs, cells in the lymphatic system grow abnormally. They divide too rapidly and grow without
any order or control. Too much tissue is formed and tumors begin to grow. Because there is lymph
tissue in many parts of the body, the cancer cells may involve the liver, spleen, or bone marrow.
There are two general types of lymphoma which are Hodgkin s Lymphoma and Non Hodgkin s
Lymphoma. They are two opposites when it comes to how they act towards the body and how they

Analysis Of Documentary Storytelling By Sheila Curran Bernard
The novel Documentary Storytelling by Sheila Curran Bernard delves deep into the behind the
scenes of the development of documentary. She writes powerfully and informatively on the
structure of documentary and how time on screen can be used. In the chapter entitled Planning
and Pitching, Bernard discusses the importance of selecting a cast of experts with a wide range of
viewpoints (Bernard 148). I agree with Bernard that having a diverse range of opinions may add
credibility to the film, but I must argue that having too large an amount will undermine the
direction of the film. While having a wide range of viewpoints may balance the film, those
viewpoints may contradict each other and make the concept of the film difficult to understand.

The Effects Of Using Math Cooperative Learning Groups On A...
Chapter 2
Review of Related Literature
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of using math cooperative learning groups on
a second grade class at Cypress Cove Elementary School during the academic year of 2016 2017.
This chapter focuses on conceptual understanding and the effectiveness of cooperative learning
groups in math as well as the influence of group processing on achievement.
Making Connections in Math Cognitive development occurs when students use their current
knowledge of a subject s concepts and procedures to learn new material. Math is no different.
Students use what they already know as a foundation for learning new math skills. Teachers who
understand this aspect of cognitive development and know how to build on what their students
already have learned are effective educators (Sidney Alibali, 2015).
In a study of fifth and sixth graders being taught division by fractions, Sidney et al. (2015), found
that students drew on their past knowledge to understand new problems. Students used their prior
knowledge to activate the transfer of the new information.
The Effectiveness of Cooperative Learning
Using differentiated instruction helps build existing knowledge and activates prior knowledge.
Once students have gained a deeper level of understanding, using cooperative learning groups is
beneficial because it enhances academic achievement, student attitudes, and student retention
(Hsiung, 2012). Cooperative learning also provides a natural

A Brief Look at The Beatles and Their Music
The Beatles would ultimately pursue a goal quite similar to that of Marx to change the way people
think about the world In order to create a better, more just world a theme particularly relevant in
their later work. Discuss.
Baur, S (2006) The Beatles and Philosophy Chicago: Open Court p87
Beatles music makes you feel good, even 30 years after first hearing it, I and many other fans get
intense pleasure from listening to the songs. By the age of 4 I was a keen listener, and by the age
of 7 I owned all their albums. My view of the world we live in was shaped to a greater or lesser
extent by the messages and music on those albums.
Before researching this topic, I have already in my mind my own understanding as to the Beatles
goals and their developing intentions throughout the decade, their involvement with political
activity, and what, in particular, Ono and Lennon sought to achieve in their ten month peace
campaign during 1969.
The goals and philosophy of Marx, of a classless society and socialist order, reflected the civil,
feminist, sexual freedom and anti war movements of the 1960 s fairly closely. The sixties were
also a time when many people were freer to experiment with the social and political philosophy
of Karl Marx . Harris, J.F (1993). Philosophy at 33 1/3 Rpm: Themes of Classic Rock Music.

The Great Gatsby And Angry Mindsets Of Modernism
Modernism brought a new era to fiction as a whole. With World War One raging distress and fear
to people worldwide, the modernists as a whole were very angry. They were angry with the
propaganda of the time telling them that war was good; those who d seen the battlefield knew
better. They despised their didactic Victorian predecessors, who taught clear divisions between right
and wrong. Modernists instead believed that authority figures were corrupt and that morality is
often unclear. This comes to light especially within the poems of Eliot and Yeats, and especially in
the modernist manifesto Blast. With this lack of clarity, the writing of this time shifted
dramatically. The writings reflect the confused, frightened, and angry mindset of... Show more

The Apostle Paul sees visions of immense human suffering during the apocalypse, all of which
are contrasted against miraculously beautiful images of eternal happiness. Perhaps Yeats is
snickering at the Bible itself with all it s little contradictions as it begs people to believe in it. Or
perhaps Yeats is bringing out the fear that underlies Christianity a fear of hell, of losing one s
purpose, of not being included in the rapture and suffering the consequences. Yeats is clearly
mocking Christianity and the idea of a Second Coming as if people are not already living in a
consistent state of suffering and happiness already. Eliot uses a an even bolder approach in his
poem The Hollow Men . The epigraphs start with an allusion to Conrad s novella Heart of
Darkness, simply saying Mistah Kurtz he dead (2318). Considering the character Kurtz acted like
as a God like figure that ended up murdering the native Africans, Eliot sets his poem up with a great
disrespect toward authority figures before it even

The Australian Constitution Essay
The Australian Constitution
Will Australia become a republic in the next twenty years? This is a difficult question to speculate
on. The main area of law governing this issue is section 128 of the Commonwealth of Australia
Constitution Act 1900 (U.K). Other issues in this debate are regarding appointment, termination
and the powers to be awarded to the proposed Head of State, and the impact the change will have on
the States. Examining the history of Australian Legislative powers, and reasons why Australians
would want to change, is also useful when speculating on this issue.
The Colonial Laws Validity Act 1865 emphasized self government in the colonies, although denying
them the power to amend or repeal British law. (Enright ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Chisholm et.al 1997,p.68) There is a feeling that for Australia to be truly independent, the ties with
England would need to be severed. (Mack, K., in Corkery et.al 1998, p.34) One view would be to
simply abolish the Monarchy. (Winterton, G., in Stephenson et.al 1994, p.17) However, others
might say that our current system is already mostly Republican with the only Monarchial elements
remaining being the concentration of Royal powers in the Ministry. (http://www.aph.gov.au/senate
/general/republic.htm#aussie)
In any event, severing the Royal ties is not that easy, as amendments to the Australian Constitution
Acts 1900(U.K) can only be passed in Parliament in accordance with section 128. (Chisholm et.al
1997, p.61)
Section 128 prescribes that changes can only be implemented by referendum. To hold a
referendum a Bill needs to be passed through the Commonwealth Parliament to authorize it. Once
authorized, a majority of votes, as well as a majority of States is required. This dual criterion has
proven difficult to achieve, with only eight referendums being successful since Federation. (Brown
et.al 2000, p.p. 68 69 and Chisholm et.al 1997, p.64)
If a referendum is successful, the Governor General will need to assent to the Bill to become an
Act. Moreover, since the referendum effectively abolishes the Office of the Governor General,
alternative arrangements could be needed to be

he could help him survive out in the wild and not become buzzard food. Those 3 reasons are why

Nixon administration was laboring at what would become the capstone of environmental policy, the
EPA. While Earth Day was the launch of environmentalism in the modern sense, individuals had
been combating natural resource degradation for centuries. In 1849, Henry David Thoreau
published a compilation of lectures, Walden, that would become the standard by which all
subsequent nature writings are judged. John Muir, father of the American preservationist
movement, cofounded the Sierra Club, which preserved California wild lands. Both Theodore
Roosevelt and Franklin Delano Roosevelt worked during their tenure as presidents to save the
National Park System ( Environmentalism ). After World War II, the United States birthrate
skyrocketed, and people found themselves living on the edge of parks and nature. The public began
to question whether the government was working to preserve untouched land for future
generations. When Rachel Carson published Silent Spring in 1962, the era of environmentalism
was born. This movement demanded the state not only preserve the Earth, but act to regulate and
punish those who polluted it (Farrah). The work on the pesticide poisoning of man sparked a

Why Are Teens Attracted To Gangs
Why Teenagers Are Attracted To Gangs
For some young teenagers, joining a gang can provide comfort, protection and a sense of
belonging. Among teenagers, being in a gang can enhance their popularity status with peers, who
particularly are girls. A gang is a group of three or more individuals who make a name for
themselves by creating an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. Gangs tend to identify themselves
by a collective name, a slogan, identifying sign, tattoos or other physical markings. Statistics show
that the highest percentage of gang members are teenagers who range from the ages of 13 to 18.
Being in a gang may seem like fun, or seem cool and exciting, but in actuality it is can be
dangerous, unsafe and could be fatal. Gangs have been a part of society for many years. Most
modern gangs started as a group of people working towards one common goal, protecting their
neighborhood. Eventually, helping the neighborhood became obsolete and drug trafficking and
violence became the main focus of the organization. Lately, gang members have turned from
outcast and being frowned upon to becoming role Thompson 2 models. In recent years, the model

Analysis Of Peter Jackson s The Lord Of The Rings
An individual s actions have the capacity to guide their actions and behaviours. Throughout Peter
Jackson s cinematic trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, the power of an individual s motivations is
vividly conveyed, as it influences many character s course of actions. The root of Saruman s
motivations is his allegiance to Sauron, Together, my Lord Sauron, we shall rule this Middle Earth.
(Saruman, LOTR:TTT, Jackson), as well as supplementary influences. As for Frodo, his incentives
were based on the burden of the One Ring from Bilbo, Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which
case, you were also meant to have it. (Gandalf, LOTR:FOTR, Jackson), as well as divine
intervention. Throughout the entirety of the cinematic trilogy, the ways in which an individual s
motivations direct their actions and behaviours, is vividly conveyed and is imperative to the
success and consequences of their character.
Saruman is seen as a disciple to Sauron, and serves to create an army worthy of him, Build me

Plato, Poetry, And Censorship Of Poetry
Plato, Poetry, and Censorship Censorship of the arts has been around for a very long time.
Censorship is the suppression of speech, public communication, or other information, on the basis
that such material is considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, politically incorrect or
inconvenient as determined by government authorities or by community consensus. Poetryis an art,
displaying an array of ideas or story through words. While Platodiscusses with Glaucon how
damaging poetry is for his society, I will be discussing how Plato contradicts himself by his use of
censorship of poetry, which should be considered in his just society. In his republic, justiceis doing
the job that was assigned to you based on your nature. There are people who have a nature for
poetry, specifically imitative, it would be unjust to dismiss these people who are doing the job
that is best suited to their nature. I will be using a variety of contemporary sources in order to
support my claim that Plato is contradicting himself by keeping poetry from his republic. Nature is

He sees philosophy as a way to achieve wisdom and understanding, while he describes poetry as
imitative of the truth. This quarrel drives his dislike towards poetry, as he would like everyone
in his ideal city to be looking for the higher good in forms and not succumb to their earthly
desires. When describing poetry as being far from the truth, he starts by describing the form of a
table which would be made by a God, then a craftsman who has direct knowledge about the form
of the table, then a poet who can see and imitate the table from any angle. He concludes that the
poets are third from a king and the truth and therefore their poetry reflects that. Homer is at the

Comparing Frankenstein And Grendel s Mother In Beowulf
As seen in Frankenstein, appearance and characteristics are everything when deciding if
someone or something is monster worthy. Grendel s mother in Beowulf is described as a
fatherless creature (1355.) suggesting she is not man made. This suggestion implies she breaks
the social norm of this society. She and her son are often correlated with darkness. Any term that
correlates with darkness is feared by humans because it is a place that we cannot fully see. It is a
place where the unknown lurks. Yet, she looks like a woman (1351.) but because she was not
conceived how a normal human being would be, she is outcasted and looked upon as monster.
Grendel s mother characteristics are similar to those of a warrior, or in this case a powerful... Show

Will convert more; with this advantage then/ To union, and firm faith, and firm accord,/ More
than can be in heaven (35 37.) Throughout Book II, Satan delivers words of wisdom. By a
character displaying exquisite communication skills, such as Satan, it shows how great of a leader
he is. While this battle of good vs. evil is still taking place, Satan is a hero to his angels and will
remain one for as long as he lives.
In Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein should be depicted as the real monster for attempting to
recreate God s creation. Instead, it is his creation who has to pay the price for Victor s wrong
doings. While his creation pays the price, he still finds a way to become his own hero as well. It
may go unsaid but the monster has the will to keep on going. Through his life he still finds a
way to live. The monster in Frankenstein talks about himself for a bit and says this I have good
dispositions; my life has been hitherto harmless and in some degree beneficial; but a fatal
prejudice clouds their eyes, and where they ought to see a feeling and kind friend, they behold
only a detestable monster (159.) The monster tries to act right but it seems as if whatever he
does his actions are misunderstood. Yet, like a child he is pure and unaware of his doings. The
courageous step he takes is asking Victor Frankenstein to create him a mate to live his life with.
The monster is aware of how fearful his creator is of him but still approaches him and is not afraid
to ask for his request. It was a baby step into a new

The First Five Stages Of The Mark Knapp Model Of...
Introduction: Jeff and I interviewed Jim and Gloria Langman, his grandpa and grandma. Jim and
Gloria have gone through the first five stages of the Mark Knapp model of relational stages which
include initiating, experimenting, intensifying, integrating, and bonding. They have been married
for 49 years and most people who have been together that long have a tendency to go through the
next five stages. These stages describe how people grow apart. Jim and Gloria s relationship is
unique in the fact that they did not gone through the last five stages.
Initiating:
The initiating stage is where people people signal that they are interested in building some kind of
relationship with the other person (Adler and Proctor, 256). Jim and Gloria met ... Show more

They treasured these gifts and still have them to this day.
Integrating:
As their relationship grew stronger they moved into the integrating stage. This stage is
characterized when the parties begin to take on an identity as a social unit... [and] social circles
merge. As they grew closer, they began spending more time at each other s houses. Jim
mentioned that he began to get to know her crazy brothers better and said that they were called
hoods . They had a tendency to get him into trouble. He told us a story about how her brothers
were driving an extremely expensive car around a ramp and were trying to flip it over. Gloria s
dad came outside with a belt and Jim took off running. They also told me about a turning point in
their relationship. A few days after their graduation, Jim was going to go to a girl s graduation
party, which happened to be on the same day as Gloria s. He was going to go to the other girl s
party instead of Gloria s, but couldn t find her house. Coincidentally, in his search for the girl s
house in town, he saw Gloria s mom and she told him that he should go to Gloria s party. He
decided to go and according to him, this was the point in their relationship that they truly knew that
they were going to stay together forever, and this when when their courtship began.
Bonding:
The bonding stage of a relationship occurs when the parties make symbolic public gestures to show
the world that their relationship exists (Adler and

Presentational Devices in Chicken Run Essay
Presentational Devices in Chicken Run
Chicken Run is an animated film about a group of chickens trying to escape from a chicken farm.
The film is a spoof of the film The Great Escape and as with that film there are characters, who
represent good and characters who represent evil. In Chicken Run, the character that represents
good is the chicken, Ginger. The chicken farm owner, Mrs. Tweedie, portrays evil.
The film makers of Chicken Run have used presentational devices to give us clues about each
character. They use camera angles, setting, costume, lighting, music, sound effects, body language
and facial expressions to portray a character as good or evil. I will personally concentrate on ...

As with most war films the prisoners design escape plans. Chicken Run, is no different, with the
chickens designing numerous plans to escape, with little success. Many war films also have
victims in them. Chicken Run also has a convention for this, with Edwina the chicken being
decapitated by the villain Mrs. Tweedie. Finally, the last convention I will mention is the roll call.
In war films the prisoners are often told to line up for inspection, and Chicken Run adapts this, in
the way the chickens have to line up to have their eggs inspected.
Moving away conventions of war films, the film also has conventions of everyday household
objects. The chickens use screw drivers, hammers, and many other tools for building their
contraptions which they use in their attempt to escape from the farm. Another thing would be the
fact that the chickens dress much like humans do. For example the chicken, Ginger wears a hat, and
the rooster on the farm a scarf. Both these conventions serve, to make the viewers feel more familiar
with the chickens and therefore relate to them.
Now, moving onto the question. I will begin with how the film makers use different camera shots
to portray Ginger as a good character and Mrs. Tweedie as an evil one. However, I will first
describe the different camera shots. Beginning with the close up. This camera shot is, as the name
implies, a close up of, usually,

Antigone And Oedipus Comparison Essay
Question:
6) Compare and contrast the following pairs of characters: Oedipus and Tiresius, Ismene and
Antigone, Polynieces and Eteocles. In doing so relate physical characteristics, varying beliefs and
behaviors between these groups of characters. What is similar about each and what are the
differences? Be sure to use specific examples where possible.
Answer:
A similarity between Antigoneand her sister Ismene is that they both care for their brother,
Polyneices. They sore to each other that they will bury him together no matter what after the fight.
However, as Antigone is a strong, determined and fearless character, she stood up for what she
feels is right, in that burying her brother because of the fact that Creon declaration not to do. She
showed that she was not scared of him by breaking the law and burying him. We then see,
Ismene, weak, selfless, and scared personality by, her running away because see feared that she
would be killed if she buried Polyneices. This also shows somewhat of a similarity by shows us

The Importance Of A Secure Mother Child Relationship
I strongly believe that a secure mother child relationship is highly important in the later
development of a person. The influence that a mother has on her child can later lead to important
aspects needed for life; these may include behavioural/social skills, cognitive abilities, emotion and
even on the personality of the child. Not only can a good relationship help nurture these positive
characteristics but also prevent later difficulties in life such as trauma. There are two types of
attachment that can be categorised as secure attachment and insecure attachment. Within insecure
attachment there are three main sub categories which I will talk about later. Recent research has
shown that new born babies have a far more superior ability to understand their environment than
was previously believed. In the child s environment he or she will be in contact with many
individuals, however, it has been shown that the mother child relationship is the most influential. A
quote from Shonkoff and Phillips, early development entails the gradual transition from extreme
dependence on others to manage the world for us to acquiring the competencies needed to manage
the world for oneself Early relationships and experiences is highly important in the brains physical
development. The brains plasticity is at its highest in the first few years in the life of an individual.

Questions On The On Cyber Offense
Report 1

Luke Weyrauch
ICS 382 01 Fall 2014
Faisal Kaleem
Metropolitan State University
Background
Cyberattacks have both the potential to devastate and intimidate. They can disable national
infrastructure, disrupt communication systems, or even destroy nuclear reactors.
Cybersecurity is a thought provoking and interesting issue. The use of cyberattacks in US as a tool
of policy is not sufficiently deliberated by policy makers but it s of utmost importance to the
nation. The policy issues facing the acquisition and use of cyberattacks in US remains a riddle
among many policymakers in the US and the world at large. Lifting the Veil on Cyber Offense is
an article based on the National Research Council, 2009. The article ... Show more content on

Summary of the issues raised
The pertinent issues presented in the article are majorly based on the ways the National
Research Council can protect the US against cyberattacks. The article affirms that cybersecurity is
both a delicate and sensitive issue that requires deliberate monitoring before taking any action.
However, most of the studies carried out have been based mostly on the cyberdefense side rather
than the cyber offense side. This gap, therefore, acts as a motivation towards carrying out this
particular research in trying to unveil some of the issues that remain untouched.
The current state of cyberattacks in many countries including the US is one filled with dilemma and
misunderstanding. Proper institutions and policies have not been set in place to ensure that the
policies formulated are in line with both national and international interests. Some of the problems
existing include difficulty in identification of parties responsible for cyberattacks, strategic and
tactical implications of cyberattacks, and lack of comprehensive strategic policies in the US,
among many others (Lin, 2009). These problems exist because cyber related crimes have no
boundaries nor proper

Analysis Of Love In The Time Of Cholera
Love in the Time of Cholera is a skilfully crafted novel in which Gabriel Garcia Marquez takes the
reader on the labyrinthine love journey of the two characters, Fermina Daza and Florentino Ariza.
The novel, which is told by a non judgemental omniscient narrator, reveals love in a multi faceted
manner that may seem conventional on the surface, yet, the portrayal of lovehas been adeptly
designed to incorporate the novels historical context. The story takes place between the late
nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century, in a Caribbean seaport city in Colombia. The
context of both time and place intertwines social traditions, economic hierarchies and political
ideologies that collectively play a role in the characters development. The development of Fermina
and Florentino s characters reveals differentiated worldviews on gender issues; these perceptions
are displayed through their exhibition of love to each other and minor characters. In Love in the
Time of Cholera, Marquez blatantly tells the novel in a non prejudicial way which focuses on the
revolutionising dominant patriarchal ideologies and attitudes. Hence, a feminist lens will be used
to explore the explicit and implicit characterisation of Fermina and Florentino.
Marquez explicitly describes Florentino Ariza through his unattractive appearance and social class,
highlighting that despite the Florentino s aesthetics and legacy, his love for the socially superior
Fermina is eternally irreducible. The

The rise of industrialization brought the ability to mass produce goods and thus able to sustain a
larger population, a population that was expanding out and away from the city. White veterans
returning from World War II received access to GI bill, which afforded them new housing, that was
being built more quickly than ever thanks to prefabricated parts, manufactured in factories. Thus
with the creation of the suburbs we see this movement away from the dense cityand into the
surrounding area. Neighborhoods with Black families could no longer receive any loans from
the bank due to red lining. Money was being invested in building up the suburbs instead, where
the land was cheap and so were the taxes. This lead to a sharp decrease in the value of land within

Have you ever just sat back and wondered how certain teams in the National Basketball

Analysis Of Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep
By 2021, nuclear war has devastated the planet Earth. It has led to the mass extinction of several
species and has prompted electric animal development; it has left entire apartment buildings to just
one tenant and has encouraged human connection via the Empathy Box; and it has caused
humankind such heartache, that scientists have created the Penfield Mood Organ to regulate
emotions. Above all else, however, it has led to isolation. The technological advancements that it
has inspired have consumed human s attention and pushed them apart.
In Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, Philip K. Dick suggests that human dependence on
technology has blurred the boundaries between humans and androids; both are in fact cyborgs
hybrid[s] of machine and organism (Haraway, 149). By having his human characters describe such
technologies as the Empathy Box, the Penfield Mood Organ, and television as extension[s] of
[their] bod[ies] and the absence of them as the absence of life, Dick supports post humanist literary
critic Katherine Hayles argument that technology...has become so entwined with the production of
identity that it can no longer meaningfully be separated from the human subject and implies that
technological inventions have replaced personal interactions (Dick, 66 and 5 / Hayles, xiii). Yet the
revelation at the end of the novel that the Empathy Box is fraudulent represents technology s
fraudulence. Technology only deceivingly replaces personal interactions; it fails to

program is a vital piece of the cities known harm reduction approach to its serious problems with
homelessness, drugs, crime and AIDS. Canada has drastically shifted its method. Going from

Results of safe injection site studies have shown that an expansion may have a greater impact.
This may reduce the chance of dangerous encounters between users of these safe injection sites
and the public. Children not even out of elementary school, were getting involved in the drug
scene. These runaways were a concern to the residents, who witnessed overdoses in the past
decade. Over 2,000 lives were lost due to the Downtowns East side s drug fuelled spiral
(MacQueen et al., 2003). Persisting the safe injection site can help in lowering risk behaviors by
the drug users of SIS s and community concerns that are related to public injection of drugs
(McKnight et al,. 2007). Overall, SIS s may have the ability to change the drug users and transform
them into potential productive members of society.
Effect of Insite on Future Generations
It is suggested that since Insite was created, it has been sending the wrong message to the youth of
Vancouver stating that injection drug use is acceptable and has support. This approach is unlikely

risks. Harm reduction is defined as an ideology viewing drug use as

Stem Cells For Bone Regeneration
Bone marrow derived cells are the most extensively researched stem cells for bone regeneration
owing to their capacity to differentiate into an osteoblastic lineage in the presence of
appropriate growth factors as well as regenerate bone efficiently in vivo[44]. Upon isolation
from the bone marrow, these stem cells are characterized. These cells are generally easy to
isolate and passage[45]. However, relatively low abundance of BM MSCs necessitates extensive
in vitro expansion, which diminishes the posttranslational survival and immunomodulatory
properties of BM MSCs while posing regulatory and logistic challenges[46]. Additionally, the age
and health status of the donor is of critical importance with regard to obtaining these cells. In the
mid 1960 s, Friedenstein et al reviewed a series of experiments and hypothesized that BMSC could
be co isolated in vitro alongside hematopoietic cells [47; 48]. BMSC are generally referred to as
MSCs, however, it should be noted that Bone marrowusually consists of stromal cells which do
not necessarily give rise to MSCs [49]. Nevertheless, upon isolation, the purified bmsc are referred
to as msc as they abide by the 2006 criteria and exhibit both plasticity and the ability to differentiate
into chondrocytes, osteocytes, and adipocytes in vitro and in vivo[50]. In 1997, komori et al
proposed that marrow stromal cells express the master osteogenic transcription factor, runt related

Water Pollution In South Africa
Introduction Water is a scarce resource in South Africa, making the countries rural citizens
highly dependent on rivers, dams and underground water as a water supply. The countries
increasing population has seen an increase in the demand for water but also a decrease in its
accessibility. This is because an increase in population also increases the rate of pollution of
water. Through estimation, it is said that South Africa s population will have doubled by the
year 2025, thus further endangering the quality of water in South Africa. (Staff Writer, 2015)
The consumption of water of poor quality can be fatal not only to human lives but also the lives
of the animals or livestock that consume it. Bacteria and viruses within water are the causes of
water borne diseases such as cholera, typhoid and gastroenteritis. One of the main causes of
death for children in South Africa under the age of five is, in fact, gastroenteritis. These diseases

The Effects Of Discrimination On International Students
The Effect of Discrimination on International Students
According to Institute of International Education organization, The United States hosts more of the
world s 4.5 million globally mobile college and university students than any other country in the
world, almost double the number hosted by the United Kingdom, the second leading host country .
Hosting millions of international students who were in The United States in 2015. However,
international students faced many challenges when they arrive in The U.S., such as language,
culture, and unequal treatment due to as racism. Because international students faced
discrimination, that has a negative effect on their psychological.
In the United States universities, Asian international students faced discrimination by the policy of
universities. In some American university, international students treated differently than American
students. According to Rhonda Sutton of North Carolina State University mentioned in his article
that at NC State University international student worked more hours than an American student for
the same pay. Another problem was NC State university housing do not consider that international
students cannot offer hotel room or go back to their countries or have someone off campus to stay

Marketing Research And Sustainable Management Practice
In such a volatile and complex industry as tourism, marketing research, an integral part of
marketing planning process, plays a crucial role in shaping a framework that guides Destination
Management Organisations (DMOs) decisions, be it public or private. At operational level, market
intelligence would help DMOs gain market insights, bridge the gap between tourism products and
visitors and potentially explore new markets. Without market data, goal and objectives would be
unrealistic thus resulting in inefficient marketingprogrammes. The report discusses attempts to
promote San Juan Islandsan archipelago part of the U.S. state of Washington, through their
marketing plan. Drawing on the marketing process proposed by Middleton et al. (2009) and relevant
literatures, what emerges from the plan is the lack of market data, lack of measurable objectives
and lack of sustainable management practice. As a result, the report recommends a comprehensive
marketing research and sustainable management practice.

Descriptive Essay For Middle School
We met on the first day of eighth grade my best friend and I. Upon walking to the cafeteria, it felt
obvious that first day jitters filled the overly decorated and colorful middle school hallways with
anticipation. The time was approximately 10:45 in the morning as hungry students quickly
shuffled their way passed each other in a race for their meals. I remember the familiar smell of
square cut pizza filling the sunlit lunchroom as I made my way towards the last available seat of
one of the many round tables occupying the room. I noticed that every seat had been claimed by
recognizable faces, except one, a small girl with ivory skin and light purplebraces. With only one
vacant seat to her left, I unknowingly sat next to someone that would become a major influence for
the next five years and counting. MadisonFaith proved to be the smartest, funniest, and most loving
being I have been blessed to call my bestfriend.
Maddie is a petite five foot four Italian girl with long, thick brown hair and a face of particularly
small yet gentle features. Her eyebrows match the darkness of the hair on her scalp and her eyes
often change with the weather, ranging from hues of a light hazel to a forest green that is flecked
with the color of pecan shells. Her eyelashes are often mistaken for being fake due to their length
and thickness. Below these features, falls a thin and and slightly pointed nose and her light pink
lips, although small, can speak words that move mountains. With rosey

different reasons. Millennials who are moving to cities are looking for stable job markets, quality

Tobacco Products Cause And Effects
Introduction
Tobacco products, specifically cigarettes, are products that usually cause a slow, painful death. If
death is not eventually caused as a direct result of tobacco products, they can still result in various
other debilitating illnesses. It is not only health that the use of tobacco products causes to decline,
but also the monetary security of the individual indulging in these items. Whether it is money or
health, tobacco products cause severe degradation in both categories. Cigarettes and other items
such as snuff can be both directly and indirectly linked to many thousand cases of death and illness
each year in the United States. There is no benefit to be gained from use of these harmful reagents,
and for that reason a debilitating excise tax should be placed on tobacco products.
Addiction
All forms of tobacco, such as snuff, cigars, cigarettes, and chewing tobacco, contain the drug
nicotine, which accounts for the addictive nature of these products. Nicotine is absorbed into the
bloodstream when it is introduced to the body, this principle applies whether the tobacco is inhaled,
smoked, or chewed. When nicotine enters the bloodstream, it instantaneously begins to stimulate
the adrenal glands, otherwise known as the glands that produce adrenaline within the human body.
This adrenaline, also known as the hormone epinephrine, prompts the central nervous system of the
individual to increase things such as blood pressure, respiration, and heart rate (DrugFacts:

A Brief Note On Acute Renal Failure Condition Essay
1.Describe the pathophysiological changes that occur in acute renal failure. Acute renal failure
condition is diagnosed and retitled as acute kidney injury. The purpose of the change of terminology
was to encompass the full spectrum of the clinical manifestations associated with the syndrome.
This includes a range from a small decline in kidneyfunction to a severe impairment. Furthermore,
the acute condition is characterized by a rapid loss of kidney function. In addition, associated
manifestation(s) may be displayed as a rise in serum creatinine or a reduction in urine output. As a
result of increase of serum creatinine or decline in urine output may developed and aggress to the
clinical manifestation azotemia. However, acute kidney injury is complications are reversible.
Patients with life threatening conditions are more susceptible to developing this disorder. Acute
kidney injury is commonly developed after either chronic hypotension or hypovolemia or exposure
to a nephrotoxic agent. With increased levels of blood urea nitrogen(BUN), creatinine, and
potassium with or without a reduction in urine output develops acute kidney injury over hours or
days (Lewis, 2014, p. 1101 1102). High incidents of hospitalized patients develop AKI, one out of
five, and a high mortality rate. (Lewis, 2014, pp. 1101 1102)
2.Differentiate between the causes, signs and symptoms, and diagnostic findings in pre renal, intra
renal, and post renal failure.

Essay about Coming Of Age In Mississippi
Coming of Age in Mississippi is an eye opening testimony to the racism that exemplified what it
was like to be an African American living in the south before and after the civil rights
movements in the 50 s and 60 s. African Americans had been given voting and citizen rights, but
did not and to a certain degree, still can not enjoy these rights. The southern economy that Anne
Moody was born into in the 40 s was one that was governed and ruled by a bunch of whites, many
of which who very prejudice. This caused for a very hard up bringing for a young African American
girl. Coming of Age in Mississippi broadened horizon of what it was like for African Americans to

Also, I think that since she was busy with everything else in her life that she could not really
hang out with friends, church was a place for her to make some friends. Religion was not just a
factor for Anne, but for many of the slaves during the Civil War. The slaves would use religion
as a way to get away from the harsh realities of their lives. Also they viewed Jesus and Moses as
heroes who lead their people to freedom. Their religion was aimed toward the real world rather
than being in heaven when they died. Basically, their singing or praying was about being
delivered from slavery. They also used hymns as special codes for meeting points while trying to
escape. To me the song Swanee River has a different meaning to the song on page 129. To me
Swanne River was talking about being at home and a child, being around the familiar faces; your
family and friends. Also, I think that home refers to being back on the plantation where they know
they have security. Not in the sense of being safe, but being where they know and somewhat have
fun. The song on page 129 about god s hebben means to me that black and white people are the
same, minus the color of their skin. It is saying that every one is the same in God s eyes, and
when we get to heaven we are all going to look the same. To me the Swanee River song tells me
that the black people miss being at home and as much as they hated being owned by whites they
miss being on the

Physics Department, Faculty of Science, Suez Canal University, Ismailia, Egypt
ABSTRACT
In the present work, PVA Ag nanocomposite films with thickness 0.18 mm, constant silvercontent
(0.4 wt. %) and with different time of reaction (0.1, 3, 5, 7, 9 h) were prepared by chemical
reduction method. Structure, surface topology, photoluminescence and electrical properties of PVA
Ag nanocomposite were studied using x ray diffraction (XRD), electrometer, atomic force
microscope (AFM) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy were used to characterize the
prepared nanocomposites. X ray patterns showed the existence of Ag nanoparticles within the PVA
polymeric matrix with face centered cube (FCC) phase. It was found that the PL intensity for all
samples increases, while the root mean square (rms) roughness decreases as the time of reaction is
increased. Current voltage characteristics were analyzed to explore carrier transport mechanisms in
Ag PVA nanocomposite and the results showed that there is an improvement in the electrical
conductivity of the PVA Ag films and Frank poole emission is the prevailing transport mechanism
for all samples.

The Market Revolution Of The African-American Slavery In...
In the United States, slavery had an overwhelming impact on their political, social, and economical.
Jamestown, Virginia in 1619, the first African slaves were brought into the United States. Reasons
were because the tobacco, sugar, rice, and coffee fields were expanding which led to increasing the
demand for labor. The Atlantic slave tradewas an inhuman systematic importation of slaves
between the African traders, American planters, and the European merchants bargaining over
human lives which led to the Middle Passage. 1675 1775, the slaves were the backbone of
monoculture labor and so it was put into law to keep the Africans as slaves. So prevalent was this
Italian operated slave trade that the word slave was derived from the word Slav, name for people
from Slavic countries (Williams 3). In both seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the African
American slaves helped build the economic foundations of the new nation. After the War of 1812,
three historical processes unleashed by the Revolution, which were the following: the spread of
market relations, the westward movement of the population, and the rise of a vigorous political
democracy. The same steamboats and canals that were used by millions of farmers to send their
goods to the markets also facilitated the growth of the slave based cotton plantations in the South.
In the first half of the nineteenth century, the market revolution swept over the United States. Both
the westward expansion and the market

As I sit back and consider the Penn State Sandusky scandal, I discovered that pretty much every
function for the organization changed. When it comes to management, they have to be held
accountable for their actions. They also have to communicate more and better to ensure another
incident such as the Sandusky sex scandal happens again. As for human resources, they have to
ensure they are holding internal stakeholders accountable for their actions or non actions. For Penn
State, things can no longer be swept under the rug which is where the media comes in. Penn State s
public relations will have to increase and keep their community, internal and external ahead of the
negative press that could arise. As for the marketing, recruiters would have

Cognitive Behavioral Theory Of Cognitive Behavior Therapy
Theoretical Analysis Cognitive Behavioral Theory Several prestigious and monumental
contributors commenced the development of cognitive behavioral therapy. The four main catalysts
have been Albert Ellis, Aaron Beck, Judith Beck, and Donald Meichenbaum. Each of these
trailblazers lead a different aspect of cognitive behavior therapies. While working through his own
personal fears and anxieties, Albert Ellis developed what is now termed rational emotive behavior
therapy ( REBT ) and is the first pathfinder of cognitive behavior therapy. He had been passionately
involved in psychoanalysis, yet, he wanted faster results for his clients. He taught his clients to
transfer negative thoughts about themselves to positive thoughts and saw this brought more
expedient healing. REBT starts with the idea that people have both sound and unsound reasoning;
then, in the end, teaches unconditional self acceptance even through one s errors. Ellis REBT
asserts that people s mental health issues come, not so much from an exterior problem, but from
their perceptions and thoughts about a circumstance. The faulty beliefs are instilled when people
are very young. Without realizing it, a person replays the messages in their mind throughout their
life which creates behaviors in line with the inaccurate beliefs. Through cognitive restructuring,
therapists assist clients in developing positive thoughts to replace their invalidating messages.

  • 2. The Impact Of Canadian Policing During The Nineteenth Century 2) There has been an evolution of police work in Canada. A number of events have shaped Canadian policing, and in particular have shaped three different kinds. These are municipal, provincial, and federal police services. All these services had to start from somewhere. In many respects, the emergence of Canadian policing during the nineteenth century closely mirrored the development of punishment and corrections (Griffiths 2004). In the earliest days, policing in communities was carried out by community residents. Later, some communities started to rely on militias and the navy, while other regions remained unpoliced. These situations were obviously not sufficient to deal with the rising problems faced in an industrialized society. These times are categorized as early municipal policing. Complaints by fishermen led to the first court of justice in North America in Trinity Bay. These early attempts eventually failed. The English appointed fishing admirals , who were captains of fishing vessels empowered to settle disputes. These men were untrained, and normally no better than the people they were to police. In 1792 a Royal proclamation was issued that authorized the Governor of Newfoundland to appoint justices and constables (Course Notes). Early municipal police had three main mandates which were: to police conflicts with ethnic groups, to maintain moral standards by enforcing laws against drunkenness, prostitution and gambling, and to apprehend criminals. • 3. Essay on The Sixties, by Terry H. Anderson The Sixties, by Terry H. Anderson, takes the reader on a journey through one of the most turbulent decades in American life. Beginning with the crew cut conformity of 1950s Cold War culture and ending with the transition into the uneasy 70s, Anderson notes the rise of an idealistic generation of baby boomers, widespread social activism, and revolutionary counterculture. Anderson explores the rapidly shifting mood of the country with the optimism during the Kennedy years, the liberal advances of Johnson s Great Society, and the growing conflict over Vietnam that nearly tore America apart. The book also navigates through different themes regarding the decade s different currents of social change; including the anti war movement, the civil... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This thematic standpoint in return provides ground for a second major theme; the 1960s was home to the birth of civil rights movements and forever changed the American idea of the status quo. To a large extent, it is agreeable that that the 1960s serves as the era that led to activism in the US. Anderson is able to confirm and strengthen his standpoint by the fact that it was during one of the greatest milestones of the 1960s, the Vietnam War, that for the first time in the history of the US, the government was subjected to criticism and attacks against their ways . This can be evidenced by the fact that Americans, which were majority college students, took to the streets to protest government action. At the time, the policies and actions put forth by the government were seen to be very secretive and wrong. Citizens were hastily informed about the need to stop the spread of communism at the expense of capitalism. Not only were government policies seen as corrupt, the government had kept the American society in the dark concerning the actual situation in Vietnam. There seemed to be no cost that was worth retreating from Vietnam. Draft calls were constantly increasing and the war itself began to result in federal expenditures, deficits, and inflationary pressures ( Anderson 90). For some Americans, the war not only damaging, but unfair. Mexican Americans were the poorest and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The digestive system converts food to energy your body needs to complete everyday activities. The digestive system also takes the waste in your body and eliminates waste. Major organs included in the process of the digestive system include the mouth, esophagus, stomach, and small intestine. The mouth is where the process begins. Saliva is added to the food that you chew, which makes it able to travel down the esophagus. The esophagus connects the mouth to the stomach, where the process continues. The stomach holds food while it is being mixed with enzymes. The small intestines release nutrients from the broken down food. These nutrients fuel the body and make it ... • 5. The Importance Of Human Physical Strength In The Ancient... Humans in the ancient world definitely took advantage of their physical strength. Five great examples of this are: building roads, quarrying, operating cranes, digging wells, and constructing tunnels. All of these tasks could only be completed with an immense amount of endurance and strength. Anything from laying rocks to digging out an entire tunnelwas a difficult and grueling task. In many cases, a great deal of human physical strength was required to fully exploit the technologies and technical practices developed in the ancient world. Building roadways in ancient Italy required an extensive amount of physical strength. Creating roadways required quarrying, lumbering, and drainage (Oleson). The workers initially began by placing curb stones to create the defined border of the road(Oleson). Ditches were dug on the outside of both rows of curb stones for storm drainage (Oleson). The land between the curb stones was then completely removed by a large amount of digging and cutting (Oleson). The excavated ditch was then filled with stones, sand, and other materials that were dug up from the ditches or the land around the road, forming a solid foundation (Oleson). Laying down gravel, carrying the stones, transporting them, and carefully placing them down required a great deal of upper and lower body strength. On top of the layer of stones and sand was a layer of finer gravel (Oleson). The top layer of the road was made of polygonal basalt blocks that formed a Chambers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The two presidential nominees, Hillary Clinton, and Donald Trump, each have questionable acts. As voting time approaches and the debates come to an end many individuals must decide who is fit to run the country. • 7. The Theories And Techniques Of Psychoanalysis Key Question 6 Sigismund Schlomo Freud was an Austrian neurologist, best known for developing the theories and techniques of psychoanalysis. Freud was born in Freiberg on May 6th, 1856. Freud and his family moved to Vienna when he was four years old. He lived and worked there for the remainder of his life. Freud developed the psychosexual theory and he believed there were five stages of development. Oral, anal, phallic, latent and genital. The first stage, oral is from birth up until age one. In the first stage of personality development, according to Freud, the libido is centered in a baby s mouth. The rooting and the sucking reflex is very important. It gets much satisfaction from putting all sorts of things in its mouth to satisfy the libido, and thus its id demands. • 8. Discover Your True North Can Discover Your True North Truly Develop an Authentic Leader? Most people, at some point in time, have desired to assume a position of leadership, in any form or capacity; however, few truly know how to go about it. There are many resources and books to educate someone about leadership, but this evaluation will be on a specific book, Discover Your True North, which is considered by many to be the ultimate book for learning to lead authentically. Bill George, author of Discover Your True North, wishes to equip leaders with strategies and principles to become authentic leaders. Authentic leadershipcan be defined as when a person leads with intent, considers the success of the entire team and initiative, dedicates appropriate time to all facets of life, and leads with integrity. Discover Your True North is a superb example of a leadership book that equips people with the principles, and necessary skills, to become more authentic and proficient leaders. It improves several functions of our body and affects our overall mood. However, not many people get the amount of sleep needed every night. Several factors can influence that, including disorders. According to a study done by Columbia University, 50 to 70 million Americans suffer from a sleeping disorder. About 30 percent of these people are struggling with insomnia ( What is Insomnia? ). Stressful events, traveling in different time zones, or illnesses may trigger this disorder because the person s body is not used to different environments or situations they might have recently faced. Keeping a constant routine is an ideal way to avoid missing out on the much needed sleep to feel refreshed (Insomnia). It is also advised that people manage their stress in a healthy way in order to get the recommended eight hours of sleep every night. Some of these ways include being social in a more positive way, regularly exercising, taking time for yourself to relax, or coping in a more spiritual way. It is recommended that you relax by lying down in a comfortable, quiet room. Focusing on your breathing for several minutes and meditating can help your brain slow down and the rest of your body will be able to rest. The National Sleep Foundation found that 90 percent of Americans regularly use electronics before bed. Smart phones are linked to having trouble falling asleep and interrupting sleep (Helmer). The unnatural light triggers brain activity, when you are supposed to be winding down for the night. The phone light fools with the chemicals in the brain that encourage sleep. • 11. Analysis Of Documentary Storytelling By Sheila Curran Bernard The novel Documentary Storytelling by Sheila Curran Bernard delves deep into the behind the scenes of the development of documentary. She writes powerfully and informatively on the structure of documentary and how time on screen can be used. In the chapter entitled Planning and Pitching, Bernard discusses the importance of selecting a cast of experts with a wide range of viewpoints (Bernard 148). I agree with Bernard that having a diverse range of opinions may add credibility to the film, but I must argue that having too large an amount will undermine the direction of the film. While having a wide range of viewpoints may balance the film, those viewpoints may contradict each other and make the concept of the film difficult to understand. Bernard s ... • 12. The Effects Of Using Math Cooperative Learning Groups On A... Chapter 2 Review of Related Literature The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of using math cooperative learning groups on a second grade class at Cypress Cove Elementary School during the academic year of 2016 2017. This chapter focuses on conceptual understanding and the effectiveness of cooperative learning groups in math as well as the influence of group processing on achievement. Making Connections in Math Cognitive development occurs when students use their current knowledge of a subject s concepts and procedures to learn new material. Math is no different. Students use what they already know as a foundation for learning new math skills. Teachers who understand this aspect of cognitive development and know how to build on what their students already have learned are effective educators (Sidney Alibali, 2015). In a study of fifth and sixth graders being taught division by fractions, Sidney et al. (2015), found that students drew on their past knowledge to understand new problems. Students used their prior knowledge to activate the transfer of the new information. The Effectiveness of Cooperative Learning Using differentiated instruction helps build existing knowledge and activates prior knowledge. Once students have gained a deeper level of understanding, using cooperative learning groups is beneficial because it enhances academic achievement, student attitudes, and student retention (Hsiung, 2012). Cooperative learning also provides a natural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Brief Look at The Beatles and Their Music The Beatles would ultimately pursue a goal quite similar to that of Marx to change the way people think about the world In order to create a better, more just world a theme particularly relevant in their later work. Discuss. Baur, S (2006) The Beatles and Philosophy Chicago: Open Court p87 Beatles music makes you feel good, even 30 years after first hearing it, I and many other fans get intense pleasure from listening to the songs. By the age of 4 I was a keen listener, and by the age of 7 I owned all their albums. My view of the world we live in was shaped to a greater or lesser extent by the messages and music on those albums. Before researching this topic, I have already in my mind my own understanding as to the Beatles goals and their developing intentions throughout the decade, their involvement with political activity, and what, in particular, Ono and Lennon sought to achieve in their ten month peace campaign during 1969. The goals and philosophy of Marx, of a classless society and socialist order, reflected the civil, feminist, sexual freedom and anti war movements of the 1960 s fairly closely. The sixties were also a time when many people were freer to experiment with the social and political philosophy of Karl Marx . Harris, J.F (1993). • 14. The Great Gatsby And Angry Mindsets Of Modernism Modernism brought a new era to fiction as a whole. With World War One raging distress and fear to people worldwide, the modernists as a whole were very angry. They were angry with the propaganda of the time telling them that war was good; those who d seen the battlefield knew better. They despised their didactic Victorian predecessors, who taught clear divisions between right and wrong. Modernists instead believed that authority figures were corrupt and that morality is often unclear. This comes to light especially within the poems of Eliot and Yeats, and especially in the modernist manifesto Blast. With this lack of clarity, the writing of this time shifted dramatically. The writings reflect the confused, frightened, and angry mindset of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Apostle Paul sees visions of immense human suffering during the apocalypse, all of which are contrasted against miraculously beautiful images of eternal happiness. Perhaps Yeats is snickering at the Bible itself with all it s little contradictions as it begs people to believe in it. Or perhaps Yeats is bringing out the fear that underlies Christianity a fear of hell, of losing one s purpose, of not being included in the rapture and suffering the consequences. Yeats is clearly mocking Christianity and the idea of a Second Coming as if people are not already living in a consistent state of suffering and happiness already. Eliot uses a an even bolder approach in his poem The Hollow Men . The epigraphs start with an allusion to Conrad s novella Heart of Darkness, simply saying Mistah Kurtz he dead (2318). Considering the character Kurtz acted like as a God like figure that ended up murdering the native Africans, Eliot sets his poem up with a great disrespect toward authority figures before it even ... • 15. The Australian Constitution Essay The Australian Constitution Will Australia become a republic in the next twenty years? This is a difficult question to speculate on. The main area of law governing this issue is section 128 of the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act 1900 (U.K). Other issues in this debate are regarding appointment, termination and the powers to be awarded to the proposed Head of State, and the impact the change will have on the States. Examining the history of Australian Legislative powers, and reasons why Australians would want to change, is also useful when speculating on this issue. The Colonial Laws Validity Act 1865 emphasized self government in the colonies, although denying them the power to amend or repeal British law. (Enright ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Chisholm et.al 1997,p.68) There is a feeling that for Australia to be truly independent, the ties with England would need to be severed. (Mack, K., in Corkery et.al 1998, p.34) One view would be to simply abolish the Monarchy. (Winterton, G., in Stephenson et.al 1994, p.17) However, others might say that our current system is already mostly Republican with the only Monarchial elements remaining being the concentration of Royal powers in the Ministry. (http://www.aph.gov.au/senate /general/republic.htm#aussie) In any event, severing the Royal ties is not that easy, as amendments to the Australian Constitution Acts 1900(U.K) can only be passed in Parliament in accordance with section 128. (Chisholm et.al 1997, p.61) Section 128 prescribes that changes can only be implemented by referendum. To hold a referendum a Bill needs to be passed through the Commonwealth Parliament to authorize it. Once authorized, a majority of votes, as well as a majority of States is required. This dual criterion has proven difficult to achieve, with only eight referendums being successful since Federation. (Brown et.al 2000, p.p. 68 69 and Chisholm et.al 1997, p.64) If a referendum is successful, the Governor General will need to assent to the Bill to become an Act. In Louis Sachar s novel, Holes, Mr.Sir thought stanley was a liar, troublemaker, and was careless, but he is actually nice, helpful, and loving. People used to think stanley wasn t very nice but now that they know him most people think he is really nice. One example that show s stanley is nice is when he took the blame of stealing the sunflower seeds when magnet was actually the one who stole it. While Earth Day was the launch of environmentalism in the modern sense, individuals had been combating natural resource degradation for centuries. Censorship is the suppression of speech, public communication, or other information, on the basis that such material is considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, politically incorrect or inconvenient as determined by government authorities or by community consensus. Poetryis an art, displaying an array of ideas or story through words. Chicken Run also has a convention for this, with Edwina the chicken being decapitated by the villain Mrs. Tweedie. Finally, the last convention I will mention is the roll call. In war films the prisoners are often told to line up for inspection, and Chicken Run adapts this, in the way the chickens have to line up to have their eggs inspected. Moving away conventions of war films, the film also has conventions of everyday household objects. The chickens use screw drivers, hammers, and many other tools for building their contraptions which they use in their attempt to escape from the farm. Another thing would be the fact that the chickens dress much like humans do. For example the chicken, Ginger wears a hat, and the rooster on the farm a scarf. Both these conventions serve, to make the viewers feel more familiar with the chickens and therefore relate to them. Now, moving onto the question. The influence that a mother has on her child can later lead to important aspects needed for life; these may include behavioural/social skills, cognitive abilities, emotion and even on the personality of the child. Not only can a good relationship help nurture these positive characteristics but also prevent later difficulties in life such as trauma. Analysis Of Love In The Time Of Cholera Love in the Time of Cholera is a skilfully crafted novel in which Gabriel Garcia Marquez takes the reader on the labyrinthine love journey of the two characters, Fermina Daza and Florentino Ariza. The novel, which is told by a non judgemental omniscient narrator, reveals love in a multi faceted manner that may seem conventional on the surface, yet, the portrayal of lovehas been adeptly designed to incorporate the novels historical context. The story takes place between the late nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century, in a Caribbean seaport city in Colombia. The context of both time and place intertwines social traditions, economic hierarchies and political ideologies that collectively play a role in the characters development. The development of Fermina and Florentino s characters reveals differentiated worldviews on gender issues; these perceptions are displayed through their exhibition of love to each other and minor characters. In Love in the Time of Cholera, Marquez blatantly tells the novel in a non prejudicial way which focuses on the revolutionising dominant patriarchal ideologies and attitudes. Hence, a feminist lens will be used to explore the explicit and implicit characterisation of Fermina and Florentino. Stem Cells For Bone Regeneration Bone marrow derived cells are the most extensively researched stem cells for bone regeneration owing to their capacity to differentiate into an osteoblastic lineage in the presence of appropriate growth factors as well as regenerate bone efficiently in vivo[44]. Upon isolation from the bone marrow, these stem cells are characterized. These cells are generally easy to isolate and passage[45]. However, relatively low abundance of BM MSCs necessitates extensive in vitro expansion, which diminishes the posttranslational survival and immunomodulatory properties of BM MSCs while posing regulatory and logistic challenges[46]. Additionally, the age and health status of the donor is of critical importance with regard to obtaining these cells. In the mid 1960 s, Friedenstein et al reviewed a series of experiments and hypothesized that BMSC could be co isolated in vitro alongside hematopoietic cells [47; 48]. • 41. Water Pollution In South Africa Introduction Water is a scarce resource in South Africa, making the countries rural citizens highly dependent on rivers, dams and underground water as a water supply. The countries increasing population has seen an increase in the demand for water but also a decrease in its accessibility. This is because an increase in population also increases the rate of pollution of water. Through estimation, it is said that South Africa s population will have doubled by the year 2025, thus further endangering the quality of water in South Africa. (Staff Writer, 2015) The consumption of water of poor quality can be fatal not only to human lives but also the lives of the animals or livestock that consume it. Bacteria and viruses within water are the causes of water borne diseases such as cholera, typhoid and gastroenteritis. One of the main causes of death for children in South Africa under the age of five is, in fact, gastroenteritis. These diseases pose a greater threat to the informal settlers situated along river banks (or any other natural water source) because they use the water directly from the river without sufficiently purifying it or without purifying it at all. Also, their ability to seek good medical care after exposure is limited. This means that they are more likely to die from a water borne disease that is otherwise preventable. Marketing Research And Sustainable Management Practice In such a volatile and complex industry as tourism, marketing research, an integral part of marketing planning process, plays a crucial role in shaping a framework that guides Destination Management Organisations (DMOs) decisions, be it public or private. Without market data, goal and objectives would be unrealistic thus resulting in inefficient marketingprogrammes. The report discusses attempts to promote San Juan Islandsan archipelago part of the U.S. state of Washington, through their marketing plan. Drawing on the marketing process proposed by Middleton et al. Upon walking to the cafeteria, it felt obvious that first day jitters filled the overly decorated and colorful middle school hallways with anticipation. The time was approximately 10:45 in the morning as hungry students quickly shuffled their way passed each other in a race for their meals. I remember the familiar smell of square cut pizza filling the sunlit lunchroom as I made my way towards the last available seat of one of the many round tables occupying the room. • 47. Tobacco Products Cause And Effects Introduction Tobacco products, specifically cigarettes, are products that usually cause a slow, painful death. If death is not eventually caused as a direct result of tobacco products, they can still result in various other debilitating illnesses. It is not only health that the use of tobacco products causes to decline, but also the monetary security of the individual indulging in these items. Whether it is money or health, tobacco products cause severe degradation in both categories. Cigarettes and other items such as snuff can be both directly and indirectly linked to many thousand cases of death and illness each year in the United States. There is no benefit to be gained from use of these harmful reagents, and for that reason a debilitating excise tax should be placed on tobacco products. Addiction All forms of tobacco, such as snuff, cigars, cigarettes, and chewing tobacco, contain the drug nicotine, which accounts for the addictive nature of these products. Nicotine is absorbed into the bloodstream when it is introduced to the body, this principle applies whether the tobacco is inhaled, smoked, or chewed. When nicotine enters the bloodstream, it instantaneously begins to stimulate the adrenal glands, otherwise known as the glands that produce adrenaline within the human body. This adrenaline, also known as the hormone epinephrine, prompts the central nervous system of the individual to increase things such as blood pressure, respiration, and heart rate (DrugFacts: ... This includes a range from a small decline in kidneyfunction to a severe impairment. Furthermore, the acute condition is characterized by a rapid loss of kidney function. In addition, associated manifestation(s) may be displayed as a rise in serum creatinine or a reduction in urine output. As a result of increase of serum creatinine or decline in urine output may developed and aggress to the clinical manifestation azotemia. However, acute kidney injury is complications are reversible. Patients with life threatening conditions are more susceptible to developing this disorder. Structure, surface topology, photoluminescence and electrical properties of PVA Ag nanocomposite were studied using x ray diffraction (XRD), electrometer, atomic force microscope (AFM) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy were used to characterize the prepared nanocomposites. X ray patterns showed the existence of Ag nanoparticles within the PVA polymeric matrix with face centered cube (FCC) phase. It was found that the PL intensity for all samples increases, while the root mean square (rms) roughness decreases as the time of reaction is increased. Current voltage characteristics were analyzed to explore carrier transport mechanisms in Ag PVA nanocomposite and the results showed that there is an improvement in the electrical conductivity of the PVA Ag films and Frank poole emission is the prevailing transport mechanism for all samples. • 53. The Market Revolution Of The African-American Slavery In... In the United States, slavery had an overwhelming impact on their political, social, and economical. Jamestown, Virginia in 1619, the first African slaves were brought into the United States. Reasons were because the tobacco, sugar, rice, and coffee fields were expanding which led to increasing the demand for labor. The Atlantic slave tradewas an inhuman systematic importation of slaves between the African traders, American planters, and the European merchants bargaining over human lives which led to the Middle Passage. 1675 1775, the slaves were the backbone of monoculture labor and so it was put into law to keep the Africans as slaves. So prevalent was this Italian operated slave trade that the word slave was derived from the word Slav, name for people from Slavic countries (Williams 3). In both seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the African American slaves helped build the economic foundations of the new nation. After the War of 1812, three historical processes unleashed by the Revolution, which were the following: the spread of market relations, the westward movement of the population, and the rise of a vigorous political democracy. The same steamboats and canals that were used by millions of farmers to send their goods to the markets also facilitated the growth of the slave based cotton plantations in the South. • 55. Cognitive Behavioral Theory Of Cognitive Behavior Therapy Theoretical Analysis Cognitive Behavioral Theory Several prestigious and monumental contributors commenced the development of cognitive behavioral therapy. The four main catalysts have been Albert Ellis, Aaron Beck, Judith Beck, and Donald Meichenbaum. Each of these trailblazers lead a different aspect of cognitive behavior therapies. While working through his own personal fears and anxieties, Albert Ellis developed what is now termed rational emotive behavior therapy ( REBT ) and is the first pathfinder of cognitive behavior therapy. He had been passionately involved in psychoanalysis, yet, he wanted faster results for his clients. He taught his clients to transfer negative thoughts about themselves to positive thoughts and saw this brought more expedient healing. REBT starts with the idea that people have both sound and unsound reasoning; then, in the end, teaches unconditional self acceptance even through one s errors. Ellis REBT asserts that people s mental health issues come, not so much from an exterior problem, but from their perceptions and thoughts about a circumstance. The faulty beliefs are instilled when people are very young. Without realizing it, a person replays the messages in their mind throughout their life which creates behaviors in line with the inaccurate beliefs. Through cognitive restructuring, therapists assist clients in developing positive thoughts to replace their invalidating messages. (Corey, 2013). Aaron Beck is the primary ...
