Mental State Of Hypnosis
The mental state of sleep and dreams are scientists still don t know much about why or how we dream.
Some have suggested that we typically spend more than two hours dreaming each night. Many people
experience their most vivid dreams during REM sleep, less vivid dreams occur at other times of the
night. REM sleep is the most vivid of the sleeping dreams. The mental state of hypnosis is making you
have a focused consciousness. Hypnosis only works on people that accept the fact that they can be
hypnotized. The people that don t believe that they can be hypnotized are the ones that are more than
likely to not be hypnotized. The mental state of hypnotized people are relaxed. Biofeedback is a
treatment technique in which people can use their own

Manor House Research Paper
A Manor was a self sufficient society in which a vassal and his peasants lived and worked. The Lord
and his family would live in a manor house, which was the center of life and activity (Nardo 20). A
manor house is made similarly to a castle in the way that it was built with great craft (Alchin, Manor
House ). The house was made out of wood such as oak and stone (Alchin, Manor House ). There was
a great hall which included high ceilings and was used as a common space.(Alchin, Manor House ).
Rush Dips, Candles, Torches, and Lanterns were used for light. (Alchin, Manor House ). There was a
chapel to the side and a kitchen made out of tile, and included an oven (Alchin, Manor House ). And a
smaller building which housed dairy (Alchin, Manor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rest of the people in the manor would live on the outskirts of the manor house where they worked
harvesting the fields of making skilled crafts (Nardo 21). In a serfs house had a dirt flor, a thatched
roof , and a hearth in the center for cooking and warmth (Hazen 2). The house was flammable so most
cooking was done outside. (Hazen 3). Women serfs took care of the household (Hazen 2). Farmers
used 3 field method to farm the most food as possible (Hazen 2). One field was for spring, one field
was for fall, and one field was left fertile (Hazen 2). This system helped the manor have a constant
supply of food. The strips field system enforced villiage demoncracy (Collaboration). Each village has
common land where villages can graze cattle, collect wood, cut turf and catch fish (Collaboration).
Clearly, the structure of the manor makes for a society that can be seen as self

Pursuing Goals
Pursuing my Goals
Having goals is a very essential part of life; it gives you reason and determination to make a difference
if your life. If you don t have goals then you don t have any plan s for your future and if you have no
plans for your future then you really have nothing to look forward to. I for one definitely have a few
goals set in mind, do you? One personal goal I do have is to get married by the age of 26 27 at the
latest, and in connection with that goal; have at least one child before the age of thirty. The reason I
decided this as one of my personal goals is because I think about marriage and kids frequently wether
I actually want to think about it or not. I am only twenty years of age, but I have been dating my

Woodrow Wilson
Woodrow Wilson s fourteen points was a statement determined on January 8, 1918 by himself. He was
the twenty eighth president of the United States. The fourteen points was made when they were
declaring that World War one was occurring because of an ethical cause and after war peace in
Europe. The fourteen point s speech first discussed that there be a private but international
understanding of any kind but peacekeeping shall continue in the public view. The purpose of this is to
clearly get rid of and forbid treaties, sections of treaties and secret understandings. It isn t meant to
exclude private diplomatic differences involving an important matter. The intention is to make sure
that private differences be obligatory unless in the final ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the act of invading was illegitimate then the consequences that follow that are illegitimate as
well. The eight point is that all French territory should be freed and the invaded portions restored.
Since the restoration of the French Territory it could be said that the invasion of northern France was
illegal, as a result of the illegal claims against Belgium. The war between Grange and Germany was
not a violation of international law so there was a dispute of Belgium following the case. The ninth
point is the readjustment of the frontiers of Italy. This distinguished the frontier between Austria
Hungary and Italy to be adjusted. The tenth point is the people of Austria Hungary should be accorded
the freest opportunity to independent development. The people of Austria Hungary or Eastern Europe
should have self determination. The eleventh point is Romania, Serbia and Montenegro should be
evacuated and occupied territories restored. Serbia should have a free and secure access to the sea and
international relations of political and economic independence and territorial integrity. The twelfth
point is that the Turkish portion of the present Ottoman Empire should be promised secure sovereignty
and that the other nationalities that are under the Turkish rule be assured undoubted security of life and
development. The Straits and Constantinople should be under international rule. The rule

The International Criminal Court ( Icc )
Introduction: The international criminal court (ICC) is an unalike international organization, as it deals
with individuals of the state parties and non state parties both. The Court among its wide prospects
prosecutes individuals, accepts communications and complaints from them, and also allows for an
independent official to initiate prosecution. But, independent officials in international organizations
always have a controversial position given the fact that they have autonomy and authority to act
independently creating a probable threat to the national sovereignty of the member nations. In
addition, here the statute also had the proposal to keep the court under the purview of a political
institution (Security Council) which was also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, after serious discussions, criticism, and alterations the proprio motu power in the end must
required a pre authorization from the Trial Chambers and was also subjected to a judicial review.
Therefore, the court since its existence from 2002 could only open investigation against seven
countries so far namely; the Democratic Republican of Congo (DRC), Uganda, the Central African
Republic (CAR), Sudan, Kenya, Libya, and Cote d Ivoire. Even when in the initial 4 years of the
court, it was cluttered with 1,732 communications from 132 countries related to situations in 139
countries. The DRC was the first country against which the prosecutor used his proprio motu powers
to initiate an investigation, although DRC then referred itself to the court. Seven years later, the
prosecutor actually used his powers against Kenya to finally be able to initiate an investigation and put
to use the trigger mechanism. The seeds of 2007 were seeped deep back during the general elections
of 2002 in Kenya, where the National Rainbow Coalition (NaRC) led by Mwai Kibaki of Party of
National Unity (PNU) promised the homeless and unemployed a chance of being heard and also
guaranteed a police reform if they would have been brought

Comparing O Captain ! My Captain And Cool Tombs
Poetic Comparison of O Captain! My Captain! and Cool Tombs O Captain! My Captain! by Walt
Whitman and Cool Tombs by Carl Sandburg depict the death of President Lincoln, which reflects the
willingness of Civil War era Americans to sacrifice the safety of their president and the lives of
soldiers for the greater socioeconomic purpose. In O Captain! My Captain! Whitman employs a
metaphor of President Lincoln as a captain of a ship to illustrate the price of modernization,
characterizing the Northerner s struggle for unity to supply the growing nation s needs. Similarly,
Sandburg employs an impartial tone in Cool Tombs to convey the insignificance of the individual
person, suggesting that no one is spared when it comes to satisfying ... Show more content on

They are all heroes during periods of violence, yet after their death, all conflicts are dismissed and
their enemies are forgotten. The objectors of Lincoln, the scandals of Grant, and the warring with the
colonists are settled. The tone brings light to death as a finish line instead of a continuation of the
spirit of their time periods. Nobody gets more than the lovers reflects the ideas of equality present in
the Civil War. The people cheering on a hero and the heroes end up the same place as them a cool
tomb. Also, the epistrophe every line ends with in the dust, in the cool, cool, tombs further emphasizes
the idea that everyone lies in the dust when they are dead, regardless of their fame or infamy. The
treatment of death during the Civil War emphasizes this communistic idea that everyone is equal at the
end of their life. After all, even President Lincoln is killed due to the cause. No matter who you are,
your life cannot be superior to the greater human need, whether it be economically or socially

The E Coli Is A Gram Negative, Rod Shaped Bacterium
The E coli is a gram negative, rod shaped bacterium. It can grow under aerobic (extra intestinal) or
anaerobic conditions (intestine) and is the predominant facultive organism in human s GI tract. It
belongs to the bacterial family of Enterobacteriaceae. It is an important member of the intestinal
human s micro flora. It usually adheres to the mucus overlying the large intestine. Nowadays,
pathogenic E coli are classified based on their unique virulence factors. Pathogenic strains of the
bacterium cause three different diseases: (8)
Urinary tract infections
Neonatal meningitis
Intestinal diseases
Each of the diseases depends on different expression of virulence factors such as adhesins, invasins,
chemotaxis, toxins and the ability of the E coli to defend its host. (8)
Uropathogenic E coli colonize from perineal region and ascend to the bladder. The virulence factor
expressed is P fimbria. The strains also express other virulence factors such as siderophores that play a
role in obtainment of iron for the bacteria. They also express haemolysins. A haemolysin lyse the
lymphocytes and β haemolysin inhibits the phagocytosis of neutrophils. Another virulence factor is the
resistance to the complement dependent bactericidal effect. The presence of K antigens promotes
bacterial virulence by decreasing the ability of antibodies or complement to bind to the bacterial cell
surface and cause the loss of phagocyte s ability to recognize and destroy them. (8)

Effects of the BP Oil Spill
Four years ago from today, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded and sunk, killing eleven people.
Underwater cameras showed that the pipe was leaking oil and gas about 40 miles from the coast of
Louisiana. This leak would eventually release about 4.9 million barrels of oil into the Gulf before it
would be capped 87 days later. Immediately after the explosion, workers from Transocean, BP, and the
government attempted to control the spread of oil to the coast by using oil booms and chemical
dispersants to break down underwater oil. However, these methods had problems. First, oil booms
only stop the spread of surface oil. While that sounds good, lots of the oil was beneath the surface and
the booms did nothing to stop the spread of this oil. Second, the chemical dispersants used to break
down the underwater oil could be just as harmful to marine life as the oil was. Over 1.84 million
gallons of Corexit dispersant were used in the Gulf. Use of the dispersant was described as the most
effective and fast moving tool for minimizing shoreline impact . Despite these claims, an analysis
conducted by Toxipedia showed that the dispersant could contain cancer causing agents, hazardous
toxins and endocrine disrupting chemicals. Scientists were concerned that the dispersants made a spill
even more toxic, increasing the danger to wildlife. The dangers are even greater when poured into the
source of a spill, because they are picked up by the current and washed through the Gulf. The oil

Social Media s Impact On People s Privacy

community activity, and their ability to socialize with real people face to face. In the first section of
the article, Marcia Clemmit explains how social media breaks the boundaries of privacy by sharing
your information online without your knowledge and how social media sells user information to
companies (Clemmit 81). Then Clemmit writes about social media s role in community engagement

In the modern age, responsibility for adults has been thrown out of the window. Examples of this
concept of denying responsibility on the internet are websites of pure anonymity, like 4Chan. Granted,
this website is not as popular as websites like Facebook or Twitter, but it has built itself a reputation
nevertheless. 4Chan is known on the internet for both its toxic cloud they trail on the internet, with
bullying events like the Fappening , when a group of people online chose to simultaneously leak the
nude photos of either people they knew or celebrities, being commonplace, and for its tendency to
drag things into the real world. Although the website was technically not intended to be as such,
incidents of murder and child pornography happen on a daily basis. Adults also demonstrate a lack of
responsibility with popular trends being horrible exploitations like Swatting and doxxing . Swatting is
finding someone s address online, usually on a live stream for actual feedback, and reporting a crime
that never has or never will happen because of the target. The goal here is to call a local S.W.A.T team
to the target s house for nothing more than a few laughs, and because the entire attack was
anonymous, nobody can be held accountable. Doxxing is another example of internet recklessness.
Doxxing is when someone, usually a hacker or a bully of the target, figures out another person s
personal information, which can include phone numbers, addresses, or even social

Abortion Pill Essay
Abortion Pill The subject of abortion has created some of the most controversial, social, and moral
debates in United States history. On Jan. 22, 1973, in the case Roe Vs. Wade, the Supreme Court ruled
that it was a woman s constitutional right to have an abortion during the first trimester of the
pregnancy (The Ruling). Still other interest groups argue that human life begins at conception and
having an abortion is murder to an unborn child. These opposing viewpoints create a delicate political
and social debate in which the lives of unborn children are placed in the center. The United States
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved the RU 486 abortion pill , citing that the
overall safety of the pill is excellent (Food ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The abortion pill makes psychological recovery much easier because the less time the child is in the
womb the less a mother becomes attached to the child.
In the United States today, 25% of all pregnancies end in abortion (Abortion: All Sides). With so many
lives in the balance, one of the primary arguments has become the physical health of women who have
abortions. Of the women that previously had a surgical abortion 90% said they would prefer the pill if
they had another abortion and would recommend it to others (Robinson). However one of the side
effects of RU 486 is bleeding up to 9 days, compared to a surgical abortion s five day duration
(Robinson). The recovery process is quicker with a surgical abortion but more traumatic. One death in
200,000 occur with a surgical abortion, compared to one in 500,000 with the abortion pill. Both of
these alternatives are far safer for the mother than childbirth that claims one death in every 14,300
births (Robinson). These statistics prove that the safest alternative for the mother in the event of a
pregnancy is an abortion using the abortion pill and the most dangerous is going through with
childbirth. However the safest thing for the child is natural childbirth by far. The voice of the life in
question is never heard and it has a one hundred percent chance of death in the first 2 cases.

Military Maps
In the Yale Center for British Art, one can find a beautiful map, titled: The Description of Jarsey
a(nn)o 1600. One noticeable trait that stands out with this map compared to others in the 16th and
early 17th centuries is the exquisite detail of topographical features. According to an exhibition of the
map, this is from the collection of George Legge, first Baron Dartmouth; previously in the English
Royal map collection (Yale Center, From the Collection). One might wonder why a map, with the
extensive detail that this has, would be in the hands of the Royal Collection and thus commissioned by
Queen Elizabeth. According to R. A. Skelton: it is not difficult to see how, in the course of business,
some maps might have come into the hands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the map, one can see a tool indicating the scale of the map. This same looking tool can be found in
the book Compass and Rule in an exhibition called Bartholomew Newsam, set of drawing
instruments, c. 1570. This is the only known surviving Elizabethton drawing set in modern day
(Gerbino 61). This tool could have been used to scale the map, which can be seen in the one square
mile gridlines. In addition, by connecting these tools to those used likely by military engineers, one
can assume that the gridlines had a purpose besides denoting the scale of the map. If only the scale
was important, the British could have simply put a key on the map showing 1 inch = 1 square mile, for
example. Since they drew the entire grid, it could be interpreted as being done to perhaps reproduce
the map for military purposes. It may have been easier to redraw the map to accurate scale by
producing these gridlines. Thus, one could predict that this map may have been reproduced in a
smaller form for military personnel to effectively defend this

A tool known as BMI (body mass index) is used by medical providers to calculate an individual s
body mass index. It calculated by measuring a child s weight and height and the found value is then
compared to percentiles relative to other children of the same age and sex. For example, if a child
aged anywhere from 2 19 is more than 85% and less than 95% they are considered overweight.
(Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2009). This tool is not a method used to diagnosis
childhood obesity but it s a valuable way to measure the prevalence of obesity worldwide.
Introduction: In 1998 the World Health Organization announced that obesity had become an epidemic
in both adults and children. This epidemic is a major concern in public health yet many countries are
failing to address the issue. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the causes contributing to this
increasing epidemic of childhood obesity. There are many causes that factor into childhood obesity but
I will focus specifically on genetics, overeating, and the lack of exercise. Of the many countries
struggling to combat obesity Japan came up with their own solution. The article titled: Japan Has Cut

government implemented the metabo law which went into effect in 2008, with the goal of reducing the
country s overweight population by 25% by 2015. The law

Medical And Health Services Manager
As a Kaplan University student pursuing a Bachelors in Health Science I will hope to attain a position
as a Medical and Health Services Manager. By position and title I will help to plan, direct, or
coordinate medical and health services in hospitals, clinics, managed care organizations, public health
agencies, or similar organizations. It is possible that I could manage an entire facility or a specific
clinic or department. Maybe even manage a group of physicians. Managers must be able to direct
changes that conform in healthcare laws, regulations, and technology to continue to evolve with
medical practices and the government.
Medical and health services managers must at least have a bachelor s degree in a supporting field.
Some positions may require that you have your master s degree in the field as well. I found, on
www.onetonline.org, that a few certifications such as Certified Healthcare Facility Manager, Approved
Clinical Supervisor, or Certified Health Unit Coordinator may needed to be taken as well. All states
also have their own licensures whether it be national or state specific. A healthcare facility should be
specific an any additional training or certifications that will be needed before I can be able to apply for
the position. Some facilities may also have OJT (on the job training) that will also help attain the
position that I seek to fulfill. There will also be quarterly and annual training that will have to be
completed to maintain all certifications. Some

A Perfect Health Care System
I feel as if we will never have a perfect health care system in place. No matter what we try, something
will always need tweaked. We need to find a way that makes health care more affordable for everyone.
With Obama care we had an option for everyone to get health insurance. Now what the government is
trying to pass through will cause million of people to lose their health care. Also, Medicaid is going to
be reduced by millions. So many poor, disabled, and old people will lose their insurance making it
hard for them to get the help they need. Politicians make us think there is just a simple fix to our

Effects and implications of coalition governments on the political scenario in India
Abstract:
Parliamentary democracies ruled by multiparty cabinets make foreign policy decisions in a fairly
unique institutional context, complicated by the politics of coalition government. Recent research
suggests that this context is associated with foreign policy behaviors that are quite distinct in character
from foreign policy made by single party cabinets. In particular, coalitions tend to engage in more
extreme (both more peaceful and more aggressive) and more committed foreign policies. In this paper,
we examine the reasons behind extreme foreign policy choices by coalition cabinets. We also ... Show

In the 2004 Indian elections, the INC won the largest number of Lok Sabha seats and formed a
government with a coalition called the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), supported by various
parties. In the 2009 Lok Sabha Elections, it won again with a surprising majority, the INC itself
winning more than 200 seats.
At the federal level, India is the most populous democracy in the world while many neighboring
countries witness frequent coups; Indian democracy has been suspended only once. Nevertheless,
Indian politics is often described as chaotic. More than a fifth of parliament members face criminal
charges and is not unheard of that most state assembly seats are held by convicted criminals.
Corruption in India is common rather corruption and crime are the qualifications for being a politician
in India.
What is a collation Government?
A coalition government is one in which several political parties must cooperate in order to run a
country or region. A coalition government is often times considered a very weak form of government
because there is no majority party. In such cases, the only way policy gets approved is by making
concessions, hence the forming of a coalition.
A coalition government, also known as a coalition cabinet, can be one of the most entertaining, and
volatile, forms of government. Often, it may be hard to know how an issue is going to turn out, unlike
countries where there are only

Welders Essay
Welders are a large part of the construction industry. Welders build frames for large buildings and
things like bridges. Welders build support frames for many things. They put together car frames and
piece together pipes for gas lines and oil field work. Welders could be called pipefitters, boilermakers,
and ironworkers. Welders must have 500 hours a labor put in before a holiday to get a paid holiday.
Paid holidays include Memorial Day, labor day, 4th of July, thanksgiving, Christmas day, and new

don t show up to work you cost the company you work for time and money. Welders get full benefits.

For example, new medicines, technology, signs of water, and living bacteria can result in research that
benefits people on Earth. Maybe, this new technology can prevent radiation problems and developing

Argumentative Essay On Mental Illness
Statistics show that one in five youth will experience a mental health illness within the year or in one
point in their lifetime (National Alliance on Mental Illness). In today s society, one doesn t need to go
far to find mental illness in the population; At Vaughn International Studies Academy (VISA), there
are students living with mental health disorders. A student from the high school, Ava Gonzalez*,
described the hardships she faces when living with depression as, difficult, especially when I m not
feeling good and I don t want to come to school and deal with everything going on. While it may
appear as if a person living with a mental health disorder is only struggling with the disorder itself, the
stigma is another struggle; Peers will often negatively stereotype and label with common
misconceptions and preconceived notions of mental illness. Mia Velasquez*, a tenth grader attending
VISA, details that besides having anxiety, stigma is a constant struggle because no one really
understands how you feel. As the students have expressed, negatively labeling teens with mental
health issues prompts stigmatic thinking, prejudice, and other bias. Stigmatic labels, such as being
mentally unstable or insane, are far too common with mental illness. Both Ava Gonzalez and Mia
Velasquez, VISA students, explain that people will often think of them as incapable of accomplishing
anything of high or low significance, being completely helpless, and faking being ill. Hearing others

Washington Organized An Effective Approach Of Gradualism...
Washington organized an effective approach of gradualism among blacks but was disrupted by
militant leaders like W.E.B. Dubois. After reconstruction, the hopes for full citizenship rights were
broken when the government renewed white supremacist control to the South. The government
adopted a laissez faire policy, and the Jim Crow laws brought social, occupation, and educational
discrimination to the American Negro. In 1896, the Supreme Court s decision in Plessy v. Ferguson
strengthened the segregation of public facilities in the South. Some leaders supported violence, some
urged a return to Africa, and most encouraged peaceful means to change the conditions. Some
supported a fight for civil rights, especially the right to vote and others wanted blacks to become
skilled workers. These two approaches are called the economic strategy and the political strategy.
Washington supported the gradualist economic strategy. He wanted whites to agree to black progress
in agriculture, education, and economics. He believed that African Americans should be able to have
some jobs and get some education but did not believe complete equality was a practical goal. African
Americans should work hard for a job, not have it handed to them. Agriculture was one of the most
important aspects to his idea of racial uplift. He supported education in farming and industrial skills,
crafts, and development of enterprise, patience, and thrift. He believed they would receive respect
from whites and gain

The Benefits Of Scope Economies
One study of 36 large IDNs that contained hospitals, physicians, and health plans found that the more
providers invested in their IDNs, the lower their operating margins. Moreover, as hospitals diversified
into these different businesses, the larger was the negative impact on their financial position (e.g.,
higher debt to capitalization ratio). (Burns, Gimm, and Nicholson, 2005 pg 21). A more recent study
has found that integration of health plans with providers (hospitals or physician groups) to serve the
Medicare Advantage population is associated with higher plan premiums (Frakt, Pizer, and Feldman,
2013 p 21).
Diversification is defined as the expansion of the firm across product, geographic, and customer
markets. Firms have traditionally relied on this strategy for one of three major goals: growth, risk
reduction, and profitability. Commonly sough benefits include scope economies (via shared resources
and capabilities across businesses), economies from internalized transactions, and improved access to
market information (Grant, 2010). The benefits of scope economies are often referred to as synergies.
Other rationales include the firm s efforts to escape an increasingly unattractive market and to make
effective use of surplus cash flows by investing them in more attractive products or services. (Pg 22).
Research has shown that by diversifying, businesses can decrease its financial losses which is
identified by its higher debt to capitalization ratio.

Encyclopaedia Britannica also states that it is proved to be a versatile technique of dating fossils and
archaeological specimens from 500 to 50,000 years old (1998). This method of age determination is
dependent upon the decay of nitrogen and radiocarbon (Carbon 14) (Encyclopaediea Britannica, 1998;
Opinions of Radiocarbon Dating, 2011). Carbon 14 is continually formed in nature by the interaction
of neutrons with nitrogen 14 in the Earth s atmosphere (Encyclopaediea Britannica, 1998; Opinions of
Radiocarbon Dating, 2011) and all living things exchange the gas carbon 14 with the atmosphere
surrounding them. The amount of carbon 14 exchanged into the living organism is perfectly balanced
with its surroundings, but when an organism dies, they stop taking in the gas and that equilibrium is
damaged. Because Carbon 14 slowly decays at a known rate called its half life in a dead organism,
scientists can figure out how long ago it had stopped exchanging carbon with its atmosphere. Thus, its
age can be determined by measuring the amount of Carbon 14 in a sample (Hirst, 2017; Opinions of
Radiocarbon Dating, 2017; Oxford Radiocarbon Accelerator Unit Research Laboratory for
Archaeology, n.d.; Earthsky, 2017; Cram, 1993). With the utilisation of Radiocarbon Dating, scientists
have been able to discover that Lindow

Theme Of Quest For Liberty By Anita Desai
Quest for Liberty: A Recurring Theme in the Novels
Quest for liberty is the most prominent theme in the novels of Anita Desai. Due to its importance in
her works, it is bound to find recurrence. The quest for liberty prevails as the dominant theme and all
the major characters seem to be struggling for something with which they cannot come in terms with.
The society in which they live and cannot go away from it leaves a deep question mark in their minds.
They are in quest for liberty from past, present, loneliness, death, captivity, social milieu and
meaninglessness.
Anita Desai s novels are concerned with the portrayal of the most troubled part of her protagonists
life. The world seems to be out of joint , and in their helplessness, ... Show more content on

He desires to liberate himself from that image which has been inherited by him from his family.
By denying his past, his family name claim to property, he tries to assert his existential liberty. He
wants to live in shadow, silence and stillness. (10). He works as an anonymous and shabby clerk in a
newspaper. He thinks that three drinks and a room a princedom , is enough for him. When he achieves
this, he gives up his job and starts editing a literary magazine named Voice. Then he suddenly changes
to writing and when he finds it quite difficult to earn his livelihood he opens a bookshop in dirty

a play shows that he hated being responsible for anything at all . (72) He displays his desire for
absolute freedom in an existential manner when he

Ethical Codes In Human Service
The ethical codes I have chosen to review are the National Organization of Human Services (NOHS)
codes because they are most appropriate for what I am studying. The ethical code, that is provided by
the NOHS, is very important to know and understand. As a human service major, I consider the code
of ethics to be part of my life in ethical decision making. They protect the rights of the client and the
worker. They create guidelines, in which you should follow for standards of practice. In the human
service field, my job may be to assess a client s needs or create a treatment plan. During which time,
there must be certain behaviors and needs that are brought to a client, by me. The standards are put in
place to make sure everyone is treated fairly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To assist a client and guide them is ultimately up to me. It is required that I act with integrity and
follow all laws. There will be no black and white while assisting a client. There will be a lot of grey
areas. As an undergraduate, I will learn as much as I can. Later, I will be able to guide a client and
assure to make careful choices. If I am unsure of something or it is out of my skill set, I should go to
someone how has acquired these skills for guidance and support. The code should not only be used for
your profession or job, it should become your lifestyle. It is my responsibility to my community and to
a client, as an individual. I believe it is very important for me to know and to stay inside my scope of
knowledge. If I were to give guidance to someone that was not in my skill set, I may harm them or
someone else, unintentionally. I feel it is very important to never stop learning. I will continue to grow
and strive, as a professional, so I can better serve the population I will be working with. I will commit
myself to my community for societal change and to advocate for social injustice (Blevins,

Solon s Use Of Herodotus To Convey The Message Of Croesus
Herodotus book has, so far, contained stories that seem to emphasize the moral message of staying
humble and not taking things for granted. The stories tend to teach the lesson that if one is too prideful
or greedy, fate will intervene and ruin them. This is shown before Croesus is even introduced. One of
the first times this message can be seen is when Candaules boasts of his wife s beauty and in turn loses
his life for it.
Solon s poetry shows that he has similar values as Herodotus. In his poetry, Solon says that he desires
wealth, but that he knows that wealth held the wrong way often results in retribution. Solon also writes
about how fate is unavoidable and unpredictable, anything could happen whether it s good or bad.
Therefore, Solon is a useful character to convey the message about Croesus because Herodotus can
use a person in history whose beliefs support his own. Herodotus uses Solon to blatantly state that
having more wealth is not everything and to inform Croesus that he should be less greedy and to think
about what fate could have in store. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Herodotus book, Solon says that he cannot judge someone s happiness until they are dead, because the
present realities for individuals are often only temporary. Both Bacchylides and Herodotus appear to

Rebellion In Dostoevsky s Harry Potter
A central strength which fantasy offers in Harry Potter is its uses as a plot device, the way in which
this engages the reader, and the escape which the world of fantasy offers to Harry himself. The reader
follows Harry s perspective, thrust into a world of magic they know nothing about. This fantasy world
offers Harry what he has dreamed of his whole life, and is simultaneously a dream come true for many
child readers, with his instant acquisition of fame, food, friends, fortune, mystery, excitement, an
opportunity for rebellion, and an epic quest to complete. There is certainly a fantastical element to
Harry s complete reversal of fortune, for example, the way Harry is treated by the Dursleys, with
negligence and contempt, contrasts with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another way the fantasy world engages the reader is through the quest which Harry and his friends,
Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger embark on. Rebellion is a common theme in children s books,
and the plot of the narrative is moved forward by Harry and his friends defiance of the rules, as they
explore explicitly forbidden areas. By doing this, Harry and his friends conquer the evil Lord
Voldemort (for now) by stopping him from acquiring the philosopher s stone, and in the end they are
rewarded with house points for their defiance of the rules. Through this fantasy quest and the way the
characters defy rules and authority figures, Rowling encourages children to take agency, and she is
quoted as saying, in relation to the Harry Potter books, You should question authority and you should
not assume that the establishment or the press tells you all of the truth (p. 751). Harry Potter and the
Philosopher s Stone is strongly influenced by its post modern context, and this theme of agency, of
questioning authority figures and established institutions is an essential theme throughout the

Analysis Of Communications Service Providers ( Csps )
Communications service providers (CSPs) all over the globe are seeing an unprecedented rise in
volume, variety and velocity of information due to next generation mobile network roll outs, increased
use of smartphones, the rise of social media, and the impending explosion of the Internet of Things
(IoT). There are two additional Vs to consider as well: veracity and value. Collectively, this outlines
the big data challenge that CSPs face today. There is more data from more sources being generated
faster every day, and CSPs must determine which bits and bytes have to most impact on business
decisions. In this competitive climate, the CSPs who can tackle the big data challenge will
differentiate from competitors, gain market share and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, the majority mobile users use smartphones, and as a result, consume far more data than feature
phone users. This has driven traffic levels through the roof, and, coupled with the highly competitive
mobile market, created a need for better customer care. In fact, as we ve written in Pipeline numerous
times, the customer experience is a major differentiating factor in telecommunications and one of the
keys to success.
One way to leverage big data is through proactive intelligence. By combining multiple data streams
into an analytical framework, service providers can understand patterns, behaviors, and service
characteristics in exciting new ways, and build automated response solutions that head off problems
before they occur. A perfect application of this is proactive customer service. By correlating network,
application, location, and customer data, along with third party, unstructured data sources, into a single
tool, customer service agents can be presented with a solution before a customer utters a word. One
service provider that Pipeline interviewed for this story is able to pull from 65 data sources in real
time, and display resolutions in less than half a second to care agents. This is clearly a competitive
advantage, as it reduces handling times and therefore lowers costs, and delivers rapid issue resolution
to customers. This can be further extended to self care portals, and even further modified to

Ambiguity In The Theory Of The Description Theory
In this essay I argue that the understanding of proper names seems to go beyond definite descriptions.
Therefore the Description Theory is not an adequate theory of proper name. I first provide a brief
explanation of the Description Theory, and its sub theory, the Name Claim, followed by a brief
overview of the main arguments for the Description Theory. I then provide a more detailed
explanation of one direct argument: That it captures the intuitive logic of claims involving proper
names. I then explain the problem of Which description? , that there is no single determinate
description (Lycan, 2000: 41) of a proper name. Finally I provide my own critique, showing why I
believe that the Description Theory leaves us with ambiguity in the description ... Show more content

They are equivalent to definite descriptions and therefore must be treated as definite descriptions are.
The Description Theory goes further saying that descriptivism about definite descriptions asserts the
existence and the uniqueness of the subject and ascribes a predicate to the subject. The Description
Theory captures the intuitive logic of claims involving proper names (Lycan, 2000: 39) However, the
Description Theory leaves us with ambiguity in the description of a proper name because more than
one description can be applied to one name and it does not enable us to know which description is
relevant. Therefore, there is a need to define what a relevant description of a proper name is. This
makes the Description Theory an inadequate theory of proper

Miracles In Different Religions
Miracles in Different Religions
As of 2010, nearly 80% of Americans believe in miracles ( Do You Believe in Miracles? Most
Americans Do ). They are considered an important factor of faith in many religions. While many may
claim that these wonders are nothing but mythical stories that contain all elements that classify a piece
of literature as a fantasy (Aichele), they serve as a basis of belief for millions of people around the
world including Christians, Jews, and Muslims.
The world s largest and most popular religion, Christianity, revolves around one man who is believed
to have performed several miracles, Jesus Christ. Claimed to be son of God, Jesus was born near
Jerusalem to the Virgin Mary. When Jesus reached the age of 30, a prophet by the name of John the
Baptist appeared in Jesus town and called people to the truth. As Jesus approached John to get

Jews believe that in 175 BCE, Antiochus, a Syrian King, forced all Jews to give up their religious
beliefs (Winkler). Furthermore, Jewish temples were seized and the books therein were burned while
idols of Greek gods were placed inside. When compelled to prostrate to a Greek idol, Mattathias, an
elderly Jewish man, fled to the hills above Israel with a group of fellow Jews. Mattathias and the Jews
fought the Syrians for 3 years until they finally gained their victory and were able to return to their
homeland and temple. In rejoice, they decided to light the menorah (a candleholder) in the temple to
rededicate it to God but were only able to find enough oil to light the candles for one day. However,
mysteriously, the oil burned for 8 days. This occurrence marks a major celebration in the Jewish
religion and is known as Hanukkah, literally meaning dedication in Hebrew, once again showing the
significance of miracle in a widespread

The Political Disaster of Watergate Essay
The political disaster of Watergate in the early 1970s marked the first time a president resigned.
Essentially, it began when a former Marine, Daniel Ellsberg, who no longer supported war in Vietnam,
leaked an analysis of American involvement there to The New York Times, starting in 1971. President
Richard Nixon, a very private man, demanded that these Pentagon Papers be kept secret in order to
prevent the public from finding out exactly what was going on. The scandal that followed ruined
Nixon and led Americans to be more critical of the politicians they put in power and to question their
leadership. Nixon wanted to prevent news articles from being published about the papers and their
conclusions for reasons of national security . He is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His identity was not revealed until 2005 , although there had been many suspicions. He told the
reporters about the federal government s role in the cover up of the scandal. Woodward was able to
discover, through conversations with CREEP employees, that $70,000 of funds had been used as
payoffs to the burglars. In March 1973, one of the burglars and a former CIA agent James McCord,
reported a list of those in the government who were involved with the break in and cover up. Two of
them were John Dean, who had been previously mentioned by FBI Director L. Patrick Gray, and Jeb
Magruder, who had been involved with Nixon s campaign. The Los Angeles Times and The
Washington Post both ran the story, facing lawsuits from Dean s lawyer. Dean testified that Nixon
knew about the cover up, and then Nixon refused to appear before the Senate Judicial Committee
based on executive privilege, which allows officials to keep information private if releasing it would
disrupt the function of the government. He had previously said that he would not invoke executive
privilege.
In the court case, one of Nixon s aides testified that there was a taping system in the Oval Office that
the president used to record all his conversations. Immediately afterwards, Nixon had the recorder
removed, and refused to submit the existing tapes as evidence. On August 15,

Selling In International Marketing Essay
Some small companies never thought about going global, or in other words, becoming international
retailers. They think of selling their products in foreign countries and think of ways to do so. Before
you know it, they have become global marketers. Many companies know that by doing business in
other countries, they can broaden their potential buyers. By selling to foreign customers, though,
retailers are stumbling upon roadblocks. Selling their product in international markets is not the same
as selling in the United States. Retailers, especially small businesses with limited resources, are
realizing large capital expenditures in order to accommodate sales in foreign markets. However, many
companies are doing quite well in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Depending on what type of business you are in, you can find similar companies in other countries and
form a partnership. This gives the seller more recognition in the foreign country. But, it is usually
more costly due to the added expense of another office. By forming a partnership with a company that
is in the country you want to do business in, the partner possibly has a list of contacts, already. This
makes selling the product or service a lot easier. Still though, companies wanting to expand in foreign
markets must be careful in choosing their partners. If they are not careful whom they choose as a
partner, they could risk losing control of their product or service. And, they need to pay close attention
to the day to day activities of selling. Some small businesses get too hasty because they want to
expand their market and gross profit, so they make bad judgment calls when it comes to finding a
company to form their joint venture with. The third method is by using a licensing agreement.
Basically, the foreign company/business buys the rights to the American product. They become the
licensees. This would seem the simplest method, since the licensee, it seems, would sell the product
then send you a check every month or so depending on the contract. However, you have to be careful
of this strategy as well. Some licensees buy the product and then shove it back on the shelves so it

Blue mountain resorts case study Essay
Blue Mountain resorts (Data collection)
1. Problem definition
Blue Mountain Resorts were first built in 1941, and it is the largest family operated ski resort in
Canada. The major problem in this case is that the CEO of the Blue Mountain Resorts has to decide
whether to install facilitates or not for the night skiing in 1979 1980 winter skiing season. Maintaining
comfortable capacity at ski resort is very important in this field of market. The capacity depends on
the hill size, hill development, and lift facilities. Therefore, to provide the night skiing service,
investing in hills and lifts are important factors. So, if the CEO decides to install the night skiing
facilities, he needs to decide the price of the single night lift ticket ... Show more content on

Among 2 intermediate levels, one advanced, and one beginner and intermediate level, one should be
chosen. I suggest the intermediate level to be opened since the night ski uses would mostly
intermediate high level users rather than beginners, and advanced level at night would be somehow
dangerous. The operating cost would be $1000 per night, adding seasonal allocation of $20,000 fixed
cost, $7.75 liability insurance per 1000 skiers, and $5000 for promotional cost. Therefore, the cost of
operating night skiing is, $1000*120days+$20,000+$5000+$7.75*30= $145,232.50 per year.
$135,000+$145,232.50=$280,232.50. The frequency of night skiing in cross tabulation of pass holder
status was mostly 1 10 times per year. They will come for two or more days. The profit calculation
will be approximately 2days* 5 times* $5.50=$55.0 per people for a year. 30,000 people*30%*$55=
$495,000 per year. This profit exceeds the cost, so the company should invest in facilitating the night
skiing.
The next step is to decide the type of the season pass and the ticket price. It could offer the special
night skiing season pass or combine it with the original day time season pass. For example, three types
of the passes which are; day pass, night pass, or combined pass. On the night skiing survey, fair price
showed to be $5 for midweek nights and $6 for weekend nights. Most people anticipated their skiing
days a year to 1 5 or more than 20. Also, the

Women s Physical And Outer Appearance
Men and women s physical or outer appearance is nowadays playing an important role in promoting
false images of the two genders, especially through the media. When you think about the ideal body
image, what crosses your mind? You probably think of a bodybuilder with a chiseled six pack or a
gorgeous model with a small waist. The idea of the perfect body image in today s society stems from
the misguided idealism of the media. It is seen in Hollywood movies, beauty magazines and even
marketing advertisements. Since a young age, our generation has been influenced by what the perfect
body should look like. It is implanted in our minds that we should look a certain way without even
realizing it. Therefore, the media has a direct effect on how the general public views what is and what
isn t acceptable in regard to the standard of perfect physical attractiveness. By establishing
unattainable standards of beauty and bodily perfection, the media drive ordinary people to
dissatisfaction with their body images. This dissatisfaction can result in resorts to drastic measures,
and even disorders of behaviour, as people try to achieve these unreachable goals. It is often said that
beauty is in the mind of the beholder. For that reason, different perceptions of beauty should not affect
human beings since everyone has a different view on beauty. However, beauty tends to have a
significant impact on young teens nowadays, particularly in the fashion industry, which leads to
consequences for

The Social Scientist Phrase, Presentation Of Self, And Self
In this modern day world, people may continuously confuse similarly used words, and often think they
mean the same thing. However, in reality they don t. Nonetheless, the main focus words are identity,
and self. Identity to me is similar to the social scientist phrase presentation of self , and what that
means is how a person wants to present themselves to others. Similar to actors, and singers that are
constructively criticized by their image, so they can better it to wow their fans. In contrast to self,
which is being true to who you are. As seen in When the Emperor was Divine the family struggle with
knowing their self, and identity. The family begins as middle upper class, materialistic people in
California that are nameless with a sense of family unity, and self worth. Eventually transforming to
isolated, exhausted, loss souls having to wear ID numbers on their collar (p. 24). Starting off with the
father, which is a very symbolic character since he is only spoken about in memories, and letters. Even
so far away his family describes him as loving, caring, and warm hearted. The children would say Our
father, the father we remembered, and had dreamed of, almost nightly, all through the years of the war,
was handsome and strong. He moved quickly, surely, with his head held high in the air. He liked to
draw for us. He liked to sing for us. He liked to laugh (p. 132). All to show that to them he was

Beach Box Essay
Every night for the last twenty years I have strolled down the same beach, the same path and at the
same time. My life was boring but I loved it. In one week that was all about to change. It was the 26th
of October. The nights were getting darker and colder. I put on my coat, shoes, scarf and picked up the
house keys and prepared for my daily walk. The beach was quite near, only two minutes away.
The tide was high. The moonlight glistened off the waves which were gently stroking the sand when
they fell and rustled as they moved across the sea shells. The horizon was clear as far as you could see.

Every minute seemed like an hour. My stomach was full of butterflies. After three large scotches I was
on the verge of becoming drunk. I could not be tipsy. I had to be fully awake.
I spent the rest on the day sitting on the sofa staring at the clock. 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4 pm, 5pm .......
9pm. I had to be getting ready. It was now or never. I picked up a shovel and got dressed in black. I
left the house at 11pm.
It was foggy and stingingly chilly. The streetlamps reflected off the fog which created an eerie
atmosphere. The moon gazed at me. Questions started popping up in my mind. Would it still be there?
Was it really a body? Should I go to the police?
I arrived at the scene and could distinguish the spot where the sand has been tossed. I started to dig.
My arms began to ache and felt burning hot but I ignored the pain and strived on. I must have dug
over one metre of sand and I could still see nothing. I noticed a hint of movement out of the corner of
my eye. I glanced around to check if anyone was there but I could see no one, just the man in the
moon. Suddenly I heard a thud. I had hit something. I fell to my hands and knees and brushed off the
rest of the sand. The box had handles on it and I used them to lift it out of the sand. The lid was sealed
down so I used the spade to wedge it off and what I saw astounded me. It was full of rifles. So it was

There was a great hall which included high ceilings and was used as a common space.(Alchin, Manor House ). Rush Dips, Candles, Torches, and Lanterns were used for light. (Alchin, Manor House ). The Court among its wide prospects prosecutes individuals, accepts communications and complaints from them, and also allows for an independent official to initiate prosecution. But, independent officials in international organizations always have a controversial position given the fact that they have autonomy and authority to act independently creating a probable threat to the national sovereignty of the member nations. My Captain! by Walt Whitman and Cool Tombs by Carl Sandburg depict the death of President Lincoln, which reflects the willingness of Civil War era Americans to sacrifice the safety of their president and the lives of soldiers for the greater socioeconomic purpose. In O Captain! My Captain! Whitman employs a metaphor of President Lincoln as a captain of a ship to illustrate the price of modernization, characterizing the Northerner s struggle for unity to supply the growing nation s needs. • 8. The E Coli Is A Gram Negative, Rod Shaped Bacterium The E coli is a gram negative, rod shaped bacterium. It can grow under aerobic (extra intestinal) or anaerobic conditions (intestine) and is the predominant facultive organism in human s GI tract. It belongs to the bacterial family of Enterobacteriaceae. It is an important member of the intestinal human s micro flora. It usually adheres to the mucus overlying the large intestine. Nowadays, pathogenic E coli are classified based on their unique virulence factors. Pathogenic strains of the bacterium cause three different diseases: (8) Urinary tract infections Neonatal meningitis Intestinal diseases Each of the diseases depends on different expression of virulence factors such as adhesins, invasins, chemotaxis, toxins and the ability of the E coli to defend its host. (8) Uropathogenic E coli colonize from perineal region and ascend to the bladder. The virulence factor expressed is P fimbria. The strains also express other virulence factors such as siderophores that play a role in obtainment of iron for the bacteria. They also express haemolysins. A haemolysin lyse the lymphocytes and β haemolysin inhibits the phagocytosis of neutrophils. Another virulence factor is the resistance to the complement dependent bactericidal effect. The presence of K antigens promotes bacterial virulence by decreasing the ability of antibodies or complement to bind to the bacterial cell surface and cause the loss of phagocyte s ability to recognize and destroy them. • 9. Effects of the BP Oil Spill Four years ago from today, the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded and sunk, killing eleven people. Underwater cameras showed that the pipe was leaking oil and gas about 40 miles from the coast of Louisiana. This leak would eventually release about 4.9 million barrels of oil into the Gulf before it would be capped 87 days later. Immediately after the explosion, workers from Transocean, BP, and the government attempted to control the spread of oil to the coast by using oil booms and chemical dispersants to break down underwater oil. However, these methods had problems. First, oil booms only stop the spread of surface oil. While that sounds good, lots of the oil was beneath the surface and the booms did nothing to stop the spread of this oil. Second, the chemical dispersants used to break down the underwater oil could be just as harmful to marine life as the oil was. Over 1.84 million gallons of Corexit dispersant were used in the Gulf. Use of the dispersant was described as the most effective and fast moving tool for minimizing shoreline impact . Despite these claims, an analysis conducted by Toxipedia showed that the dispersant could contain cancer causing agents, hazardous toxins and endocrine disrupting chemicals. Scientists were concerned that the dispersants made a spill even more toxic, increasing the danger to wildlife. The dangers are even greater when poured into the source of a spill, because they are picked up by the current and washed through the Gulf. The oil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples of this concept of denying responsibility on the internet are websites of pure anonymity, like 4Chan. Granted, this website is not as popular as websites like Facebook or Twitter, but it has built itself a reputation nevertheless. 4Chan is known on the internet for both its toxic cloud they trail on the internet, with bullying events like the Fappening , when a group of people online chose to simultaneously leak the nude photos of either people they knew or celebrities, being commonplace, and for its tendency to drag things into the real world. Although the website was technically not intended to be as such, incidents of murder and child pornography happen on a daily basis. Adults also demonstrate a lack of responsibility with popular trends being horrible exploitations like Swatting and doxxing . Swatting is finding someone s address online, usually on a live stream for actual feedback, and reporting a crime that never has or never will happen because of the target. The goal here is to call a local S.W.A.T team to the target s house for nothing more than a few laughs, and because the entire attack was anonymous, nobody can be held accountable. • 11. Abortion Pill Essay Abortion Pill The subject of abortion has created some of the most controversial, social, and moral debates in United States history. On Jan. 22, 1973, in the case Roe Vs. Wade, the Supreme Court ruled that it was a woman s constitutional right to have an abortion during the first trimester of the pregnancy (The Ruling). Still other interest groups argue that human life begins at conception and having an abortion is murder to an unborn child. These opposing viewpoints create a delicate political and social debate in which the lives of unborn children are placed in the center. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved the RU 486 abortion pill , citing that the overall safety of the pill is excellent (Food ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The abortion pill makes psychological recovery much easier because the less time the child is in the womb the less a mother becomes attached to the child. In the United States today, 25% of all pregnancies end in abortion (Abortion: All Sides). With so many lives in the balance, one of the primary arguments has become the physical health of women who have abortions. Of the women that previously had a surgical abortion 90% said they would prefer the pill if they had another abortion and would recommend it to others (Robinson). However one of the side effects of RU 486 is bleeding up to 9 days, compared to a surgical abortion s five day duration (Robinson). The recovery process is quicker with a surgical abortion but more traumatic. One death in 200,000 occur with a surgical abortion, compared to one in 500,000 with the abortion pill. Both of these alternatives are far safer for the mother than childbirth that claims one death in every 14,300 births (Robinson). These statistics prove that the safest alternative for the mother in the event of a pregnancy is an abortion using the abortion pill and the most dangerous is going through with childbirth. However the safest thing for the child is natural childbirth by far. The voice of the life in question is never heard and it has a one hundred percent chance of death in the first 2 cases. One noticeable trait that stands out with this map compared to others in the 16th and early 17th centuries is the exquisite detail of topographical features. According to an exhibition of the map, this is from the collection of George Legge, first Baron Dartmouth; previously in the English Royal map collection (Yale Center, From the Collection). In addition, by connecting these tools to those used likely by military engineers, one can assume that the gridlines had a purpose besides denoting the scale of the map. If only the scale was important, the British could have simply put a key on the map showing 1 inch = 1 square mile, for example. Since they drew the entire grid, it could be interpreted as being done to perhaps reproduce the map for military purposes. It may have been easier to redraw the map to accurate scale by producing these gridlines. I think that we should continue to pursue exploration of Mars because there could possibly be life out there that we do not know about, it inspires people to to gain more education, and another option just incase ours gets destroyed. My first reason is because there is a possibility that there is other life and natural resources on mars. For example, new medicines, technology, signs of water, and living bacteria can result in research that benefits people on Earth. Maybe, this new technology can prevent radiation problems and developing improved vaccines. It might be possible to help us address a new cure for diseases. • 19. Argumentative Essay On Mental Illness Statistics show that one in five youth will experience a mental health illness within the year or in one point in their lifetime (National Alliance on Mental Illness). In today s society, one doesn t need to go far to find mental illness in the population; At Vaughn International Studies Academy (VISA), there are students living with mental health disorders. A student from the high school, Ava Gonzalez*, described the hardships she faces when living with depression as, difficult, especially when I m not feeling good and I don t want to come to school and deal with everything going on. While it may appear as if a person living with a mental health disorder is only struggling with the disorder itself, the stigma is another struggle; Peers will often negatively stereotype and label with common misconceptions and preconceived notions of mental illness. Mia Velasquez*, a tenth grader attending VISA, details that besides having anxiety, stigma is a constant struggle because no one really understands how you feel. As the students have expressed, negatively labeling teens with mental health issues prompts stigmatic thinking, prejudice, and other bias. Stigmatic labels, such as being mentally unstable or insane, are far too common with mental illness. Both Ava Gonzalez and Mia Velasquez, VISA students, explain that people will often think of them as incapable of accomplishing anything of high or low significance, being completely helpless, and faking being ill. • 20. Washington Organized An Effective Approach Of Gradualism... Washington organized an effective approach of gradualism among blacks but was disrupted by militant leaders like W.E.B. Dubois. After reconstruction, the hopes for full citizenship rights were broken when the government renewed white supremacist control to the South. The government adopted a laissez faire policy, and the Jim Crow laws brought social, occupation, and educational discrimination to the American Negro. In 1896, the Supreme Court s decision in Plessy v. Ferguson strengthened the segregation of public facilities in the South. Some leaders supported violence, some urged a return to Africa, and most encouraged peaceful means to change the conditions. Some supported a fight for civil rights, especially the right to vote and others wanted blacks to become skilled workers. These two approaches are called the economic strategy and the political strategy. Washington supported the gradualist economic strategy. He wanted whites to agree to black progress in agriculture, education, and economics. He believed that African Americans should be able to have some jobs and get some education but did not believe complete equality was a practical goal. African Americans should work hard for a job, not have it handed to them. Agriculture was one of the most important aspects to his idea of racial uplift. He supported education in farming and industrial skills, crafts, and development of enterprise, patience, and thrift. He believed they would receive respect from whites and gain ... • 22. The Benefits Of Scope Economies One study of 36 large IDNs that contained hospitals, physicians, and health plans found that the more providers invested in their IDNs, the lower their operating margins. Moreover, as hospitals diversified into these different businesses, the larger was the negative impact on their financial position (e.g., higher debt to capitalization ratio). (Burns, Gimm, and Nicholson, 2005 pg 21). A more recent study has found that integration of health plans with providers (hospitals or physician groups) to serve the Medicare Advantage population is associated with higher plan premiums (Frakt, Pizer, and Feldman, 2013 p 21). Diversification is defined as the expansion of the firm across product, geographic, and customer markets. Firms have traditionally relied on this strategy for one of three major goals: growth, risk reduction, and profitability. Commonly sough benefits include scope economies (via shared resources and capabilities across businesses), economies from internalized transactions, and improved access to market information (Grant, 2010). The benefits of scope economies are often referred to as synergies. Other rationales include the firm s efforts to escape an increasingly unattractive market and to make effective use of surplus cash flows by investing them in more attractive products or services. (Pg 22). Research has shown that by diversifying, businesses can decrease its financial losses which is identified by its higher debt to capitalization ratio. There is no solid ... Encyclopaedia Britannica also states that it is proved to be a versatile technique of dating fossils and archaeological specimens from 500 to 50,000 years old (1998). This method of age determination is dependent upon the decay of nitrogen and radiocarbon (Carbon 14) (Encyclopaediea Britannica, 1998; Opinions of Radiocarbon Dating, 2011). Carbon 14 is continually formed in nature by the interaction of neutrons with nitrogen 14 in the Earth s atmosphere (Encyclopaediea Britannica, 1998; Opinions of Radiocarbon Dating, 2011) and all living things exchange the gas carbon 14 with the atmosphere surrounding them. The amount of carbon 14 exchanged into the living organism is perfectly balanced with its surroundings, but when an organism dies, they stop taking in the gas and that equilibrium is damaged. Because Carbon 14 slowly decays at a known rate called its half life in a dead organism, scientists can figure out how long ago it had stopped exchanging carbon with its atmosphere. Thus, its age can be determined by measuring the amount of Carbon 14 in a sample (Hirst, 2017; Opinions of Radiocarbon Dating, 2017; Oxford Radiocarbon Accelerator Unit Research Laboratory for Archaeology, n.d.; Earthsky, 2017; Cram, 1993). • 26. Solon s Use Of Herodotus To Convey The Message Of Croesus Herodotus book has, so far, contained stories that seem to emphasize the moral message of staying humble and not taking things for granted. The stories tend to teach the lesson that if one is too prideful or greedy, fate will intervene and ruin them. This is shown before Croesus is even introduced. One of the first times this message can be seen is when Candaules boasts of his wife s beauty and in turn loses his life for it. Solon s poetry shows that he has similar values as Herodotus. In his poetry, Solon says that he desires wealth, but that he knows that wealth held the wrong way often results in retribution. Solon also writes about how fate is unavoidable and unpredictable, anything could happen whether it s good or bad. Therefore, Solon is a useful character to convey the message about Croesus because Herodotus can use a person in history whose beliefs support his own.
