Exploratory Questions
1) You are in the midst of the first interview with Mr. K., a recently divorced 55 year old man. You
have introduced yourself and have addressed the other aspects of the beginning phase of practice. You
are now ready for an initial exploratory question. At this point, you know only that Mr. K. s concern
relates in some way to the divorce. Therefore, you want to encourage him to explore that topic in
depth. Write the words you would say in asking this first question. Once written, specify whether the
question is open or closed ended. Outline your rationale for choosing this particular question and
anticipate how Mr. K. might respond.
Mr. K can you please describe your relationship with you ex wife to me please?
Mr. K please describe your thoughts about for your future plans?
The question that I selected was open ended. My question is opened ended because I am asking my
client to explore something. My rational for choosing this question was because I did not want to
come off as blaming Mr. K for anything. The test was very clear about that. I could have asked
something such as why did you divorce your wife? This question could cause my client to get angry
because he may or may not have filed for divorce. Therefore since I was dealing with a sensitive topic
I thought that it was better to ask him to describe the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analyzing The Three Motivational Categories Of Terrorism
The three motivational categories of terrorism are the rationally motivated terrorist, the
psychologically motivated terrorist, and the culturally motivated terrorist (Bartol, Curt, Anne Bartol,
2012). A rationally motivated terrorist tends to consider the goals of the organization while being
mindful of the possible consequences of their actions. Psychologically motivated terrorists are driven
by a sense of failure or inadequacy finding direction in charismatic leaders. Culturally motivated
terrorist s actions are based of fear of irreparable damages to their way of living, national heritage, or
culture done which has either occurred or is going to happen due to the actions an organization,
foreign country, or powerful factions. The motives

The Case Of Roe V. Wade
On January 23, 1973, the landmark case Roe v. Wade established a new law that would change women
s rights for years to come. This controversial case made it legal to have an abortion, which made it
safer for women around the country. In 1972, a year before Roe v. Wade, there were approximately
587,000 illegal abortions performed (Roe v. Wade). These abortions were highly dangerous because
they lacked medical equipment and a trained professional. In some instances, the mother could even
die from the procedure. As a feminist, I believe women should have the right to their own body and
therefore I believe the government should keep the decision of Roe v. Wade. In this paper, I will
discuss the court case of Roe v. Wade, personal stories of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the Act does not cover medicine for a safe abortion. Businesses who provide healthcare to
their employees have purposely not included women s reproductive health because of their views on
abortion. If the owner or manager doesn t believe in abortion, they are more likely not to include
women s reproductive health on their health care, even though abortions are not covered in the Act
(Roe v. Wade and its Effects of Society). This means that female workers are not provided with
medical care they need because their manager disagrees with a choice not provided in the Act that
gives women basic health needs. To me, health care should be a right, and not giving it to your
employers because of your views is unconstitutional. If having an abortion is legal, why does the
government not cover it in health acts? Even 37 years later, abortion is still a taboo subject that rears
its ugly head in politics. Before abortions were legalized in 1973, many women put it upon themselves
to get rid of an unwanted pregnancy. Any illegal abortion performed was a dangerous decision made
by the mother. During the 1950 s an estimated 200,000 abortions took place illegally (The Impact of
Illegal Abortion). There are many health risks with having an illegal abortion including: severe
bleeding, abdominal trauma, rupturing of the uterus, and in some cases, even death. In 1972, a

Anyone Lived In A Pretty How Town Essay
In his poem, anyone lived in a pretty how town, E. E. Cummings describes the life lived by the
average joe, symbolized by protagonist anyone, in the average pretty how town setting. Cummings
asserts that children will be born and raised to all be the same, with no individuality, then grow into
busy adults who cared for anyone not at all, and perhaps one day get married, live their lives, and die,
still with nevers, or an unfulfilled bucket list. It is through the use of repetition, foreshadowing, and
figurative language that Cummings conveys a mood of sad inevitability as he explains how this
lifestyle repeats itself in cycles and how death will come to everyone, all while they live their lives in
a society that might be pretty, but which lacks any real sense of community and individuality.
Cummings uses repetition to point out how life goes on, and how each generation repeats a cycle. For
instance, throughout the poem, Cummings repeats the names ... Show more content on

For instance, Cummings writes that the Women and men (both little and small) who cared for anyone
not at all, sowed their isn t and reaped their same. Both little and small is a metonymy for all people,
which Cummings uses to explain the first problem with the setting, which is how all the people in it
apparently don t care for anyone, except for maybe themselves. Cummings then uses an extended
metaphor to discuss the second problem. Sowed their isn t is a metaphor for the people raising
children, and reaped their same refers to how these children have all been raised to conform to society
so that they all end up the same. So in the end, the setting of Cummings poem is a town that might
look pretty on the surface, but lacks a caring community and stifles creativity with

Coco Chanel s Impact On Women
Imagine walking down the streets of Paris in 1921 and walking by a young beautiful woman dressed
in a simple black dress. While you walk by her you get a whiff of a smell, a smell like no other in
1921. It was the smell of a strong woman and not a flower bed, that was the smell of Chanel No. 5 the
perfume that put Coco Chanel on the map. The big question is, who was Coco Chanel and what was
her big impact on women in society in the early 1920 s. What made it successfully into such a
worldwide known brand? Chanel started in Paris, France in the year 1910 the brand did not take off

The Horrific Murder Of O. J. Simpson
June 12, 1994, does the day sound familiar? Just a simple Sunday in California, warm and beautiful.
Mr. Orenthal James Simpson made plans to attend his daughter s dance recital, along with many other

murderer over night. Many of O.J. s actions on June 12, 1994 have become questionable and most of

They didn t think a female could be strong enough to accomplish what she was doing. Woodhull was

giving her almost no formal education. Her, being the eldest of her siblings, got a job in fortune telling

Cassirer, Nietzsche and Niccolò Machiavelli s The Prince
When the word Renaissance is mentioned, an image of love for antiquity learning and fine arts usually
springs to one s mind. Yet this perception, however legitimate it may be in many areas of Renaissance
human achievements, shatters in the face of Niccolò Machiavelli s masterpiece The Prince. Unlike his
contemporary Baldassare Castiglione who exemplified subtlety, Machiavelli was ruthlessly practical,
nonchalantly callous, and admirably seamless in his logics about the bloody art of political power.
By all accounts The Prince, is a handbook on the acquisition and maintenance of political power.
Neither can it be argued any otherwise, like Ernest Cassirer has acknowledged in ... Show more

(p164, New Theory of the State ) The keen observer that was Machiavelli merely organized and
publicized the thoughts that once were only whispered amongst the political elites.
However, while The Prince can hardly be convicted of being a product of malice, what the readers
cannot forget is that Machiavelli based his Political Ruler 101 on his fundamental and unshakable
personal philosophical conviction that men are inherently self serving. Cassirer recognizes
Machiavelli for his cynical side: we shall never understand [man] as long as we are suffering from the
illusion of his original goodness (p163, New Theory of the State ). Much like Thomas More who had
the fictional More and Raphael Hythloday two halves of his same philosophical self arguing about the
practicality of an ideal society in Utopia, Ernest Cassirer attempted to draw a distinction between
Machiavelli the idealist who cherished dreams of a Republic and Machiavelli the pragmatist who was
necessarily pessimistic about the natures of human and politics alike. The liberal Machiavelli ventured
that the aim of the common people is more honest than that of the nobles (p28); while the cynical
Machiavelli claimed that any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among
the great number who are not good. (p42)
The darker Machiavelli s views are echoed in Fredrich Nietzsche s philosophy. In his Morals as
Fossilized Violence , Nietzsche charged that humans at

control over distribution and free shipping transportation for most of its products. However, the
concept was changed and replaced with the backward vertical integration when Amazon s product
named Kindle was manufactured as eBook reader. The company made use of all the available
resources in an efficient way to benefit its financial performance (Frey Cook, 2004).
Amazon.com added a value to its name and fame by creating partnerships through joint alliances and

Books, Office Depot and other music and software companies. Amazon set its focus on profit in the
year 2001 which was the result of its opportunistic behavior and management skills of growth and
making profit. Amazon s future targets were achieved by implementing a restructuring plan that
allows reducing its operating costs, employment staff and reinforcing its customer service operations.

Systems Theory In Social Work
One last theory which has impacted my clinical social work practice is systems theory which seeks to
understand how interrelated and interdependent parts work together to make up a whole system
(Langer, Lietz, Ebooks, 2015). For clients in court mandated treatment, multiple systems interact
together to inform and affect treatment outcomes. Probation, parole, the department of corrections, the
court system, the halfway house, the client s income status, housing arrangements, and family systems
are just a few of the systems which can be present for court mandated clients. With intersecting mental
health, substance use, and oftentimes trauma; all of these systems are interdependent and intrinsically
linked and thus it is important as a clinician to understand that the client may be heavily affected by
one system which can impact their overall treatment. Another aspect of systems theory applies to
mezzo level interactions between myself, my organization, and other organizations which are
interrelated with my organizations. My concentration internship is for a non profit organization

The theories I have highlighted in this essay show the client centered aspects of my social work
practice. From a person centered perspective, I seek to remain client centered, creating a therapeutic

experience through accurate empathic understanding of my client s concerns. Remaining client
centered is further accentuated through attachment theory where I seek to understand how the client s
interactions with myself and others has been impacted by their relationship with their parental figures.
Similarly, using systems theory helps me to understand my client where they are, in their life, by
understanding how the systems exist and relate to one

I will be explaining what the court means when it say that stare decisis is not an inexorable command .
Also what it would mean for the American system of criminal justice, if stare decisis actually was

It s referring to precedents. Precedents are previous decisions of the court that need to be followed by
courts in the same or lower in the hierarchy. The court must give consideration but there is no rule on
how it should apply it to the facts of the case at hand.

The Three Troubled Troopers
One for all, and all for one. This quote, traditionally associated with Alexandre Dumas novel The
Three Musketeers exemplifies the quixotic camaraderie often associated with soldiers in war. This
camaraderie is challenged in Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five, a satirical novel that illustrates the
challenges the protagonist Billy Pilgrim faces during conflict. The book describes soldiers on the same
side acting hostile towards one another, with one soldier, Roland Weary, going so far as beating up his
companion Billy Pilgrim. Through the novel, Kurt Vonnegut asserts the reality of war contrasts with
the idealistic perception of it through the use of diction and imagery.

Vonnegut vividly describes Weary s view of the world: His vision of the outside world was limited to
what he could see through a narrow slit between the rim of his helmet and his scarf from home, which

as being constricted by a narrow slit . This narrow slit is representative of Weary s narrow vision of
the war as a whole. Weary cannot see the whole conflict but can only focuses on his perceived exploits
and how important he is in it. He chooses to see only what he wants his dreamy perspective. Vonnegut
also describes how unsuited Billy Pilgrim is to fighting: He couldn t even walk right kept bobbing up
and down, up and down, driving everybody crazy, giving their position away (53). Vonnegut gives us
an image of Billy as limping up and down and not walking in an orderly, straight manner. This
contrasts with the quick, smart march often associated with soldiers. Billy Pilgrim doesn t fit our
image of who a soldier is, and Vonnegut uses his march to describe soldiers aren t nearly as

Analysis Of Solomon Northup s 12 Years A Slave
Written by Solomon Northup and published in 1853, 12 Years a Slave is an autobiography describing
the horrible experiences that Solomon himself faced, within a span of twelve years, after having been
kidnapped as a free man, beaten, and sold into slavery. As a tribute to Northup s powerful memoir, in
2013 a film was created, also called 12 Years a Slave, which served to retell Northup s story through
the power of cinematic effects, actors, and cameras. However, even though the movie is based entirely
on Northup s memoir, in does not serve to accurately portray every factual and historical detail that
appears within the novel. Details such as the number of children Northup had, the characteristics of
the people he came across, to the severity of white treatments towards slaves, all seemed to have been
looked over in the making of the movie. This inattention to detail can confuse or upset those who have
read the novel, whilst on the other hand will falsely portray the time period, as well as Northup s heart
wrenching experience, to those who have not previously read the novel.
In the beginning of his memoir, Solomon clearly states that he only wished to give a candid and
truthful statement of facts: to repeat the story of [his] life, without exaggeration (Northup 1), however,
the film based upon the novel does not appear to stay true to Solomons wishes. In fact, the film
appears to have completely looked over crucial events which served to lay the foundation of Northup

The Pros And Cons Of Nazi Eugenics
During the reign of Adolf Hitler, Europe was taken into a state of chaos. German physicians were
called to extermination camps. The reason was straightforward to them: They were called to camps to
try to unlock the secrets of genetic engineering, hands stretched out in reach to get closer to creating
the Aryan, or superior race. The use of Nazi eugenics was supported by the German government in
order to create the Aryan and to exterminate those who did not fit into their criteria. They promoted
the use of biology to accomplish their goals of racial purity, a core concept in the Nazi ideology.
Physicians were attracted to the scientific ideology and aided in the establishment of National
Socialist Physicians League in 1929 to purify the German medical community of Jewish Bolshevism.
(Grodin 371). However, today it seems they were there solely to kill camp inmates as painfully as
possible. These acts of torture were characterized by several shocking features: victims were forced to
become subjects in very dangerous studies against their will; nearly all subjects endured incredible
suffering, mutilation, and unimaginable pain, and the experiments often were deliberately designed to
terminate in a fatal outcome. The accounts for the medical exploits are numerous, ranging from
conjoined twins experiments to phenol injections, high altitude experiments, tests of resurrections by
placing humans in extreme temperatures, and artificial insemination. The Nazi medical experiments

As fast as new technology is established, people find ways to hack and corrupt it. Many times there is
malicious intent behind such actions. These acts can include everything from computer viruses to
contraband network servers to pirated IP addresses and credit account fraud. All of the stories we hear

correctional facilities. Massive destruction both physical and theoretic could easily occur and quite
frankly September 11th could be seen as precursor to the uniform and grave situation systematic
mainframe crashes would cause. This would be a case of international espionage and would be a
drastic move from the normal programs the tech security groups deal with on a daily basis. This type

the attempts to defend helpless. A comparison would be the 9/11 attacks and how they were almost

Also the mobile network market was much more concentrated than the supplier market, thus limiting
supplier power. Despite both companies offering similar services, the threat of substitution within this
industry was low. Prices for the two companies were similar, with both standing at 20p per min from
7am to 3pm on weekdays and all day on weekends (Independent.ie, 1998).The buyers propensity to
substitute was further lowered by high switching costs. They were unwilling to consider the substitute
as the benefit they would receive from switching companies would not outweigh the costs, they now
therefore had a stronger incentive to remain with their current provider (cite). Competiitive rivalry
within the industry was high. The two firms actively competed with each other in order to gain market
share. The service lacked differentiation between the two yet high switching costs prevented them
from stealing each others market base. They competed with each other in order to gain more coverage
in rural areas and thus increase market share. They also engaged in price competition, with Esat

Databases help people reduce time for us by needing to gather all information, processing, and
interpreting data manually. For this we can use the Microsoft Access Program or FileMaker Pro. The
process component is for generating any useful information for decision making. It includes any for
transaction processing in which the banks use to make transactions for any deposits, withdrawals,
payments, cashiers checks, or money orders. For example, anytime there are transactions being
recorded in the computer, it will appear in the journal and will be printed for the end of the shift of the
day once a teller balances out and closes for the day. The information component is the output of the
information systems. For example, information contains qualities such as the timeliness and the
integration of other data information. The personnel information system provides useful information
to carry out any objectives effective for those decision makers. For example, intranets is useful for
providing basic human resources functions such as checking the paid time off left or by searching for

Explain Paleey s Philosophical Position For The Existence...
Paley s philosophical position for the existence of a deity can be summarized by the following
statements. 1. Humans are made for a purpose. 2. If humans are made for a purpose, then there must
be a creator behind that purpose. 3. Therefore, there is a creator. (1, 2, 3 MP) His reasoning for this is
by comparing humans as a whole to a machine. Just like a watch, which has intricate parts that work
for a grander design of telling time, so too does the eye for seeing (Feldman, 1994). The watch, Paley
argues could not possibly have just came into being to fulfill the specific purpose which it presently
does. According to Feldman (1994), this still points to a creator who designed its purpose and knew of
its function. Even if it replicated itself

The History Behind Knighthood
After the lords on the social ladder came the knights. A Medieval Knight commits himself to serve his
lord in military service according to the Code of Chivalry. A knight guards and supports his lord in
medieval war. Generally, a knight serves under his lord 40 days in a year in military service. During
the Medieval period of England, knights in training performed tasks in order to become official
knights, to wear their uniforms proudly, and having been chosen by King Arthur in Knights of the

Given the multiplicity and ambiguity of the horror genre, this essay will isolate the generic
conventions of two specific varieties of horror; the post modern and body horror genres. Pinedo
establishes that all horror films involve the violent disruption of the normative order by a monster
(1997, 15), however the nature of the monster varies greatly. In an exhaustive analysis of the
conventions of the horror genre, Tudor notes that in classic horror films the monster or destabilising
force is external (1989, 28). Tudor goes on to note that an external destabilising force ensures that
within the genre world there is considerable security about the final safety of our minds and bodies
(1989, 28) and that in every classic horror film under analysis, the threat was successfully averted
(Tudor 1989, 28) The resolution of classic horror films inevitably involves the restoration of the
normative order by masculine might or scientific knowledge (Pinedo 1997, 15). The clear coding of
threats as external and the distinct boundary between normality and abnormality can be considered an
important generic convention of the classical horror film. However, body horror and postmodern
horror genres contain a different set of conventions in which the blurred boundary between the self
and the monstrous other is the source of the horror present. In the post modern

first movie, The Big Boss, all the way to latest movie we ve watched, Way of the Dragon. By studying
his life and the movies he created, this paper will help reveal the ideas of race, specifically racism and

saves the day. He gets rid of the thugs and manages to save the restaurant from being sold. As seen in
the, Way of the Dragon, Tang Lung s profile is that of a smaller framed Chinese man, who saves the
day with his Chinese boxing. This example ties in and reveals some ideas of race because it goes
against the White Knight Theory that all the heroes must consist of being Caucasian, tall and
muscular. Throughout the evolution of Bruce s life and his movies, much ideas of gender are also
portrayed in many several ways. An idea of gender, specifically female gender roles can be viewed by
analyzing his first movie, The Big Boss. In The Big Boss, the female role of Chiao Mei portrays how
women and what role they played in society back in that time. Out of the entire family of different
cousins, which predominantly composed of males, Chiao Mei is the only female in the household. Her

Athletes get paid more than the president, nurses and doctors, and athletes get paid way more in one

Realism Constructivism
The U.S government has been in the past make several trials promote democracy within their state and
in the whole world. There are various ways through which there are developments of democracy by
different administrations of the United States. The approaches to democratic promotion range from
realism, liberalism and constructivism (Carothers, 55).
Realism is seen to offer democracy from a perspective of both a classical and structural realism
(Monten, 112 156). Democracy promotion through realism may be viewed as a situation when
democracy may reduce some the causes of conflict cited by realists, the causes may not eliminate
those in conflict. For realism, that is democratic peace, and that is when there is democracy in a

Advocacy for democracy by the U.S have always been in terms of two main methods. The U.S
government has been applying either the projection of values approach or the projection of power
approach. For easy understanding, power projection in advocacy for democracy may be applied when
dealing with deadly issues such as war, terror and other forms of conflict. As the U.S have been in
need of seeing the world a peaceful place, whenever there is a war or terror threat in a country, they
sometimes come in by carrying out offensive attacks. Attacks may be on terror groups with an
intention of stopping them from causing harm to the innocent people. When the U.S government uses
the power to address a situation or calm a war, then they shall have projected power. However, at
some point when the U.S presidents have been visiting other countries, for instance, when President
Obama recently visited Kenya, in Africa, he was complaining about the need to live a corruption free
life. At such situations, it will be upon the country to listen and adopt the wishes of the U.S. When
Obama was showing Kenyans on how best their lives could be without corruption, he was projecting
values to the Kenyan government and African countries in

Poverty In Ayesha Says, By William Jaco
It s no secret that poverty affects minorities not only here in America but abroad as well. Our inner
cities see the blunt of legal system; with African American males incarcerated at a rate of 4,347 per
100,000 as of 2010(Shaefer Wu Edin 89) . Ayesha Jaco, sister to rapper Lupe fiasco, wrote the spoken
word poem Ayesha Says to shed light on injustices of a system that overwhelmingly affects minorities.
Ayesha s poem directly addresses issues that have been not only plaguing the black community, but
also compares the poverty we see here with the poverty we seen in conflict ridden countries. Things
like police brutality and the school to prison pipeline leading to mass incarcerations of minorities
overall, poverty and how it systematically affects minorities, and how people of all races and creeds
are coming together to fight these injustices. She reflects on how these things impact communities and
force a season of change among the people afflicted.
Ayesha s starting lines Englewood or Egypt, Bedstuy or Baghdad...the west bank or the westside of
Chicago(Ayesha) , alludes to comparisons between impoverished nations overseas to impoverished
areas of our country that generally occupied by minorities. This gets the ball rolling on the crux of
problems that people in the ghetto face, poverty being one of them. One of these results of poverty
that Ayesha mentions are that of food deserts. Wright defines Food Deserts , low income communities
with a poverty rate of 20% or

American people still ignore the history of what happened to Hiroshima and Nagasaki and all the

Puritan Oppression In The Conformist Society, By Nathaniel...
In order to castigate the overwhelming and unfair standards of Puritan beliefs that strip
nonconformists of dignity, self identity, and acceptance in society, Nathaniel Hawthorne illuminates
the demoralizing, prejudiced, and unforgiving views and punishments of religious Massachusetts
colonists.
Because Hawthorne intends to criticize the hypocrisy and oppression within the conformist
community, his downcast and disconsolate illustrations expose the strict and relentless mandates of
Puritan ideology. But, in that early severity of the Puritan character, [...] it might be that a sluggish
bond servant, or an undutiful child, whom his parents had given over to the civil authority, was to be
corrected at the whipping post [...] or an idle and vagrant Indian, whom the white man s fire water had
made riotous about the streets, was to be driven with stripes into the shadow of the forest. (Hawthorne
47). By portraying an array of very different types of people such as the servant, child, and Indian, all
of whom are subjected to Puritan law, Hawthorne laments the fact that anyone if convicted by the
orthodox Puritans can be punished. The illustration of a child being whipped in public because his
own parents turned him in is sickening; it fully envelopes Hawthorne s view of unfair and repulsive
treatment of nonconformists and sinners. Similarly, the visual description of an Indian being driven
with stripes , or in other words, being chased with a whip, once again accentuates the

The Pianist Invasion Scene
In the film The Pianist , directed by Roman Polanski, three important scenes are the invasion scene,
the Hosenfeld scene and the concert scene. These scenes are important because they show the three
main points in the movie. Roman Polanski, a Holocaust survivor himself, uses colour, symbolism,
music, lighting, and camera techniques to display the key ideas and purpose of the film, survival and
the re creation of one man s struggle respectively. The film is heavily influenced by Polanski s
personal experience, making it very vivid through the use of low key editing to rebuild the story
exactly as it was. The Pianist is about a famous Jewish pianist who survives the holocaust through
luck and his love for music.
In the invasion scene, when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He then spends years in hiding and nearly dies of starvation, until he meets Wilm Hosenfeld. The idea
of music being Szpilman s saviour is also portrayed in the Hosenfeld scene, where he meets and plays
piano for a German officer. The audience sees an over the shoulder shot of Szpilman playing piano for
the German officer, Wilm Hosenfeld. The shot is over Hosenfeld s shoulder, and we can see a beam of
moonlight illuminating Szpilman and his hands. Szpilman looks very dirty and extremely skinny,
nearly to the point of death. The audience learns that Polanski uses lighting consistently throughout
the film to signify the importance of pianos to Szpilman, as light is repeatedly shone on his hands
whilst playing piano, this is demonstrated in the Invasion scene. The composition in this scene is
important because Szpilman is facing the opposite way to what he was in the invasion scene when he
was on the piano; this is to show that Szpilman s life has turned around. The ragged and dirty costume
also makes the audience draw a comparison to the invasion scene where he has an expensive looking,
clean, sophisticated suit on, also emphasising that his life has gotten significantly worse. We then see
Hosenfeld back away from the piano and sit down to watch Szpilman play. This makes the audience
realise that Hosenfeld is not going to kill Szpilman as he is a good German, showing Polanski s idea
of good Germans and bad Germans and furthering the idea of the piano being his saviour, because we
do not know what Hosenfeld would have done if Szpilman was not the amazing pianist he is. This is
an example of the human race wanting to survive, and that we come across many trials and tests in our
lives and when it comes down to it, we will pull

  • 2. Exploratory Questions 1) You are in the midst of the first interview with Mr. K., a recently divorced 55 year old man. You have introduced yourself and have addressed the other aspects of the beginning phase of practice. You are now ready for an initial exploratory question. At this point, you know only that Mr. K. s concern relates in some way to the divorce. Therefore, you want to encourage him to explore that topic in depth. Write the words you would say in asking this first question. Once written, specify whether the question is open or closed ended. Outline your rationale for choosing this particular question and anticipate how Mr. K. might respond. Mr. K can you please describe your relationship with you ex wife to me please? Mr. K please describe your thoughts about for your future plans? The question that I selected was open ended. My question is opened ended because I am asking my client to explore something. My rational for choosing this question was because I did not want to come off as blaming Mr. K for anything. The test was very clear about that. I could have asked something such as why did you divorce your wife? This question could cause my client to get angry because he may or may not have filed for divorce. Therefore since I was dealing with a sensitive topic I thought that it was better to ask him to describe the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Analyzing The Three Motivational Categories Of Terrorism The three motivational categories of terrorism are the rationally motivated terrorist, the psychologically motivated terrorist, and the culturally motivated terrorist (Bartol, Curt, Anne Bartol, 2012). A rationally motivated terrorist tends to consider the goals of the organization while being mindful of the possible consequences of their actions. Psychologically motivated terrorists are driven by a sense of failure or inadequacy finding direction in charismatic leaders. Culturally motivated terrorist s actions are based of fear of irreparable damages to their way of living, national heritage, or culture done which has either occurred or is going to happen due to the actions an organization, foreign country, or powerful factions. • 4. The Case Of Roe V. Wade On January 23, 1973, the landmark case Roe v. Wade established a new law that would change women s rights for years to come. This controversial case made it legal to have an abortion, which made it safer for women around the country. In 1972, a year before Roe v. Wade, there were approximately 587,000 illegal abortions performed (Roe v. Wade). These abortions were highly dangerous because they lacked medical equipment and a trained professional. In some instances, the mother could even die from the procedure. As a feminist, I believe women should have the right to their own body and therefore I believe the government should keep the decision of Roe v. Wade. In this paper, I will discuss the court case of Roe v. Wade, personal stories of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the Act does not cover medicine for a safe abortion. Businesses who provide healthcare to their employees have purposely not included women s reproductive health because of their views on abortion. If the owner or manager doesn t believe in abortion, they are more likely not to include women s reproductive health on their health care, even though abortions are not covered in the Act (Roe v. Wade and its Effects of Society). This means that female workers are not provided with medical care they need because their manager disagrees with a choice not provided in the Act that gives women basic health needs. To me, health care should be a right, and not giving it to your employers because of your views is unconstitutional. If having an abortion is legal, why does the government not cover it in health acts? Even 37 years later, abortion is still a taboo subject that rears its ugly head in politics. Before abortions were legalized in 1973, many women put it upon themselves to get rid of an unwanted pregnancy. Any illegal abortion performed was a dangerous decision made by the mother. During the 1950 s an estimated 200,000 abortions took place illegally (The Impact of Illegal Abortion). There are many health risks with having an illegal abortion including: severe bleeding, abdominal trauma, rupturing of the uterus, and in some cases, even death. In 1972, a ... • 5. Anyone Lived In A Pretty How Town Essay In his poem, anyone lived in a pretty how town, E. E. Cummings describes the life lived by the average joe, symbolized by protagonist anyone, in the average pretty how town setting. Cummings asserts that children will be born and raised to all be the same, with no individuality, then grow into busy adults who cared for anyone not at all, and perhaps one day get married, live their lives, and die, still with nevers, or an unfulfilled bucket list. It is through the use of repetition, foreshadowing, and figurative language that Cummings conveys a mood of sad inevitability as he explains how this lifestyle repeats itself in cycles and how death will come to everyone, all while they live their lives in a society that might be pretty, but which lacks any real sense of community and individuality. Cummings uses repetition to point out how life goes on, and how each generation repeats a cycle. For instance, throughout the poem, Cummings repeats the names ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, Cummings writes that the Women and men (both little and small) who cared for anyone not at all, sowed their isn t and reaped their same. Both little and small is a metonymy for all people, which Cummings uses to explain the first problem with the setting, which is how all the people in it apparently don t care for anyone, except for maybe themselves. Cummings then uses an extended metaphor to discuss the second problem. Sowed their isn t is a metaphor for the people raising children, and reaped their same refers to how these children have all been raised to conform to society so that they all end up the same. So in the end, the setting of Cummings poem is a town that might look pretty on the surface, but lacks a caring community and stifles creativity with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Coco Chanel s Impact On Women Imagine walking down the streets of Paris in 1921 and walking by a young beautiful woman dressed in a simple black dress. While you walk by her you get a whiff of a smell, a smell like no other in 1921. It was the smell of a strong woman and not a flower bed, that was the smell of Chanel No. 5 the perfume that put Coco Chanel on the map. The big question is, who was Coco Chanel and what was her big impact on women in society in the early 1920 s. What made it successfully into such a worldwide known brand? Chanel started in Paris, France in the year 1910 the brand did not take off until her release of Chanel No.5 in 1921. She did not have a glamours and fortunate life. After her mother had died Gabrielle was put in an orphanage by her father. She was raised by nuns who taught her to sew, little did they know that that skill would lead her to her life s work. She did not pursue her career in fashion right away, she had a brief time where she was a singer where she developed her nickname and Coco. After her short time as a singer Chanel burst into fashion the way you burst into literature. (Fiemeyer) opening a 4small shop in Deauville, France where she sold jersey sweaters. Within the first five years, her comfy style started to attract wealthy women that were seeking relief from the tight corset style. Chanel said, Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury. (Picardie) Chanel s designs were made simple and for comfort, revolutionizing clothing for women. Her brand really took off after her release of Chanel No. 5 the perfume that transformed the way women were portrayed. Shortly after releasing Chanel No. 5, she presented her first line of makeup in 1924. • 7. The Horrific Murder Of O. J. Simpson June 12, 1994, does the day sound familiar? Just a simple Sunday in California, warm and beautiful. Mr. Orenthal James Simpson made plans to attend his daughter s dance recital, along with many other events that would occur (Courier Post). O.J. Simpson, the once lovable football star, turned into a murderer over night. Many of O.J. s actions on June 12, 1994 have become questionable and most of the evidence sources pointed to him; but did he commit the horrific murders of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson? As soon as he finds the bodies of the victims, he continues to Mr. Simpson s house to tell him of the news. Here, Fuhrman finds the gloves and picks them up along with all the evidence ever found at O.J. s household. The defense used the argument that Fuhrman, along with the Los Angeles Police Department, planted this evidence at O.J. s house. Mr. Fuhrman had previously been charged with making racist comments while on the job. Then the case took a turn, tapes had resurfaced of Mark Fuhrman making statements that explained how he would frame an African American for a crime (Toobin). Cassirer, Nietzsche and Niccolò Machiavelli s The Prince When the word Renaissance is mentioned, an image of love for antiquity learning and fine arts usually springs to one s mind. Yet this perception, however legitimate it may be in many areas of Renaissance human achievements, shatters in the face of Niccolò Machiavelli s masterpiece The Prince. Unlike his contemporary Baldassare Castiglione who exemplified subtlety, Machiavelli was ruthlessly practical, nonchalantly callous, and admirably seamless in his logics about the bloody art of political power. By all accounts The Prince, is a handbook on the acquisition and maintenance of political power. Neither can it be argued any otherwise, like Ernest Cassirer has acknowledged in ... (p164, New Theory of the State ) The keen observer that was Machiavelli merely organized and publicized the thoughts that once were only whispered amongst the political elites. However, while The Prince can hardly be convicted of being a product of malice, what the readers cannot forget is that Machiavelli based his Political Ruler 101 on his fundamental and unshakable personal philosophical conviction that men are inherently self serving. Cassirer recognizes Machiavelli for his cynical side: we shall never understand [man] as long as we are suffering from the illusion of his original goodness (p163, New Theory of the State ). Much like Thomas More who had the fictional More and Raphael Hythloday two halves of his same philosophical self arguing about the practicality of an ideal society in Utopia, Ernest Cassirer attempted to draw a distinction between Machiavelli the idealist who cherished dreams of a Republic and Machiavelli the pragmatist who was necessarily pessimistic about the natures of human and politics alike. The liberal Machiavelli ventured that the aim of the common people is more honest than that of the nobles (p28); while the cynical Machiavelli claimed that any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among the great number who are not good. Systems Theory In Social Work One last theory which has impacted my clinical social work practice is systems theory which seeks to understand how interrelated and interdependent parts work together to make up a whole system (Langer, Lietz, Ebooks, 2015). For clients in court mandated treatment, multiple systems interact together to inform and affect treatment outcomes. Probation, parole, the department of corrections, the court system, the halfway house, the client s income status, housing arrangements, and family systems are just a few of the systems which can be present for court mandated clients. With intersecting mental health, substance use, and oftentimes trauma; all of these systems are interdependent and intrinsically linked and thus it is important as a clinician to understand that the client may be heavily affected by one system which can impact their overall treatment. Analysis Of Solomon Northup s 12 Years A Slave Written by Solomon Northup and published in 1853, 12 Years a Slave is an autobiography describing the horrible experiences that Solomon himself faced, within a span of twelve years, after having been kidnapped as a free man, beaten, and sold into slavery. As a tribute to Northup s powerful memoir, in 2013 a film was created, also called 12 Years a Slave, which served to retell Northup s story through the power of cinematic effects, actors, and cameras. However, even though the movie is based entirely on Northup s memoir, in does not serve to accurately portray every factual and historical detail that appears within the novel. Details such as the number of children Northup had, the characteristics of the people he came across, to the severity of white treatments towards slaves, all seemed to have been looked over in the making of the movie. This inattention to detail can confuse or upset those who have read the novel, whilst on the other hand will falsely portray the time period, as well as Northup s heart wrenching experience, to those who have not previously read the novel. In the beginning of his memoir, Solomon clearly states that he only wished to give a candid and truthful statement of facts: to repeat the story of [his] life, without exaggeration (Northup 1), however, the film based upon the novel does not appear to stay true to Solomons wishes. The use of Nazi eugenics was supported by the German government in order to create the Aryan and to exterminate those who did not fit into their criteria. In an exhaustive analysis of the conventions of the horror genre, Tudor notes that in classic horror films the monster or destabilising force is external (1989, 28). Tudor goes on to note that an external destabilising force ensures that within the genre world there is considerable security about the final safety of our minds and bodies (1989, 28) and that in every classic horror film under analysis, the threat was successfully averted (Tudor 1989, 28) The resolution of classic horror films inevitably involves the restoration of the normative order by masculine might or scientific knowledge (Pinedo 1997, 15). The clear coding of threats as external and the distinct boundary between normality and abnormality can be considered an important generic convention of the classical horror film. An idea of gender, specifically female gender roles can be viewed by analyzing his first movie, The Big Boss. • 29. Persuasive Essay On Why Athletes Get Paid Athletes get paid way too much money for playing a simple game. They play one game a week for a portion of a year and get paid millions of dollars in a year. Though, they get paid a lot of money, sometimes they need it after they retire to pay financial bills to support themselves and their families. Athletes get paid more than the president, nurses and doctors, and athletes get paid way more in one year than a regular person would earn in their lifetime. • 30. Realism Constructivism The U.S government has been in the past make several trials promote democracy within their state and in the whole world. There are various ways through which there are developments of democracy by different administrations of the United States. The approaches to democratic promotion range from realism, liberalism and constructivism (Carothers, 55). Realism is seen to offer democracy from a perspective of both a classical and structural realism (Monten, 112 156). Democracy promotion through realism may be viewed as a situation when democracy may reduce some the causes of conflict cited by realists, the causes may not eliminate those in conflict. Advocacy for democracy by the U.S have always been in terms of two main methods. The U.S government has been applying either the projection of values approach or the projection of power approach. For easy understanding, power projection in advocacy for democracy may be applied when dealing with deadly issues such as war, terror and other forms of conflict. As the U.S have been in need of seeing the world a peaceful place, whenever there is a war or terror threat in a country, they sometimes come in by carrying out offensive attacks. Attacks may be on terror groups with an intention of stopping them from causing harm to the innocent people. When the U.S government uses the power to address a situation or calm a war, then they shall have projected power. However, at some point when the U.S presidents have been visiting other countries, for instance, when President Obama recently visited Kenya, in Africa, he was complaining about the need to live a corruption free life. At such situations, it will be upon the country to listen and adopt the wishes of the U.S. When Obama was showing Kenyans on how best their lives could be without corruption, he was projecting values to the Kenyan government and African countries in ... • 31. Poverty In Ayesha Says, By William Jaco It s no secret that poverty affects minorities not only here in America but abroad as well. Our inner cities see the blunt of legal system; with African American males incarcerated at a rate of 4,347 per 100,000 as of 2010(Shaefer Wu Edin 89) . Ayesha Jaco, sister to rapper Lupe fiasco, wrote the spoken word poem Ayesha Says to shed light on injustices of a system that overwhelmingly affects minorities. Ayesha s poem directly addresses issues that have been not only plaguing the black community, but also compares the poverty we see here with the poverty we seen in conflict ridden countries. Things like police brutality and the school to prison pipeline leading to mass incarcerations of minorities overall, poverty and how it systematically affects minorities, and how people of all races and creeds are coming together to fight these injustices. She reflects on how these things impact communities and force a season of change among the people afflicted. Ayesha s starting lines Englewood or Egypt, Bedstuy or Baghdad...the west bank or the westside of Chicago(Ayesha) , alludes to comparisons between impoverished nations overseas to impoverished areas of our country that generally occupied by minorities. This gets the ball rolling on the crux of problems that people in the ghetto face, poverty being one of them. One of these results of poverty that Ayesha mentions are that of food deserts. Wright defines Food Deserts , low income communities with a poverty rate of 20% or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Puritan Oppression In The Conformist Society, By Nathaniel... In order to castigate the overwhelming and unfair standards of Puritan beliefs that strip nonconformists of dignity, self identity, and acceptance in society, Nathaniel Hawthorne illuminates the demoralizing, prejudiced, and unforgiving views and punishments of religious Massachusetts colonists. Because Hawthorne intends to criticize the hypocrisy and oppression within the conformist community, his downcast and disconsolate illustrations expose the strict and relentless mandates of Puritan ideology. But, in that early severity of the Puritan character, [...] it might be that a sluggish bond servant, or an undutiful child, whom his parents had given over to the civil authority, was to be corrected at the whipping post [...] or an idle and vagrant Indian, whom the white man s fire water had made riotous about the streets, was to be driven with stripes into the shadow of the forest. (Hawthorne 47). By portraying an array of very different types of people such as the servant, child, and Indian, all of whom are subjected to Puritan law, Hawthorne laments the fact that anyone if convicted by the orthodox Puritans can be punished. The illustration of a child being whipped in public because his own parents turned him in is sickening; it fully envelopes Hawthorne s view of unfair and repulsive treatment of nonconformists and sinners. Similarly, the visual description of an Indian being driven with stripes , or in other words, being chased with a whip, once again accentuates the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For thousands of years all branches of any nations or empires Army were extensively trained for combat and situations that may arise in that environment. • 37. The Pianist Invasion Scene In the film The Pianist , directed by Roman Polanski, three important scenes are the invasion scene, the Hosenfeld scene and the concert scene. These scenes are important because they show the three main points in the movie. Roman Polanski, a Holocaust survivor himself, uses colour, symbolism, music, lighting, and camera techniques to display the key ideas and purpose of the film, survival and the re creation of one man s struggle respectively. The film is heavily influenced by Polanski s personal experience, making it very vivid through the use of low key editing to rebuild the story exactly as it was. The Pianist is about a famous Jewish pianist who survives the holocaust through luck and his love for music. In the invasion scene, when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He then spends years in hiding and nearly dies of starvation, until he meets Wilm Hosenfeld. The idea of music being Szpilman s saviour is also portrayed in the Hosenfeld scene, where he meets and plays piano for a German officer. The audience sees an over the shoulder shot of Szpilman playing piano for the German officer, Wilm Hosenfeld. The shot is over Hosenfeld s shoulder, and we can see a beam of moonlight illuminating Szpilman and his hands. Szpilman looks very dirty and extremely skinny, nearly to the point of death. The audience learns that Polanski uses lighting consistently throughout the film to signify the importance of pianos to Szpilman, as light is repeatedly shone on his hands whilst playing piano, this is demonstrated in the Invasion scene. The composition in this scene is important because Szpilman is facing the opposite way to what he was in the invasion scene when he was on the piano; this is to show that Szpilman s life has turned around. The ragged and dirty costume also makes the audience draw a comparison to the invasion scene where he has an expensive looking, clean, sophisticated suit on, also emphasising that his life has gotten significantly worse. We then see Hosenfeld back away from the piano and sit down to watch Szpilman play. This makes the audience realise that Hosenfeld is not going to kill Szpilman as he is a good German, showing Polanski s idea of good Germans and bad Germans and furthering the idea of the piano being his saviour, because we do not know what Hosenfeld would have done if Szpilman was not the amazing pianist he is. This is an example of the human race wanting to survive, and that we come across many trials and tests in our lives and when it comes down to it, we will pull ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
