Cirque Du Soleil
Cirque du Soleil
Q1. How would you assess the attractiveness of the circus industry in early 1980s? What would you
conclude from industry analysis?
The Circus has been an extremely popular form of entertainment during the 20th century. The circus
creates an image of drifters and dreamers in the mind. In the 20th century the emphasis on spectacle
continued on 3 ring formats.
The following factors played a major role in the attractiveness of the circus industry: * Animal acts
provided an added form of entertainment along with the various circus acts. Electric lights and moving
pictures also added to the magic of the circus. * A series of educational entertainments featuring
people and historical montages from around the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Claiming Victory of the Cold War Essay
Claiming Victory of the Cold War
What has been termed as the long peace by some has proven to be the most intense time period in
world history. A historical rarity, two superpowers fought rigorously across the globe for support, each
carving out their own sphere of influence. The bi polar of international affairs resulted in an arms
buildup between the United States and the Soviet Union; including weapons that exceeded the atomic
bomb, then the most effective and destructive weapon in price and devastation. Yet, to everyone s
surprise, the Cold War abruptly ended in 1990 with the collapse of the Soviet Union under its own
economic weakness, its political conflict, and military farce. A decade later, we ask: Who can claim ...

In order to give such a question its proper justice, we must first explore the world near the end and
directly following the second world war, the landscape, which in fact, birthed the Cold War. The
second World War against Nazi aggression was fought by the Allies on two fronts; The British and
Americans pushing from the West, the Soviets, alone, fighting German troops on the East. By 1945,
without aid from the US or the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union began to gradually push the Nazi
forces back West, as he other Allies pushed from the beaches of Normandy. Soviet troops would
eventually occupy much of Eastern Europe, to the dismay of Roosevelt and Churchill. At Yalta, Stalin
assured free elections in the region following the unconditional surrender of Germany. At Yalta, also,
is where the Soviets, along with the English pledged support towards the United States in the Pacific
Ocean. It was at this point in the war that the United States and the Soviet Union began competition,
and possibly even earlier since the implementation of Lend Lease. Firstly, the United States, without
informing Joseph Stalin, sent two atomic bombs on Japan, one on Hiroshima and the other on
Nagasaki. Stalin s ignorance, perhaps, was a ploy of the United States government, which feared the
presence of Soviet troops in the region, believing that the Soviet Union would want territorial
concessions in Asia as they did in Europe. The Soviets responded at war s end when, while he rest

On Democracy, Corruption, And Tyranny Essay
Section 2: On Democracy, Corruption, and Tyranny
Consider, for example, Pericles assertion that law is all things...that the assembled multitude has
approved and written, pointing out what should and should not be done (1.2.42). Alcibiades then asks
Pericles what if it is not the multitude, but the resembled few who write [the law]? What is this this?
(1.2.43); Pericles concedes that is too can be considered as law (1.2.43). Alcibiades then asks what
[then becomes of] violence and lawlessness? Is it not when one who is stronger compels one who is
weaker not by persuasion but by the use of violence? (1.2.44). Pericles revises his initial position by
stating that everything...that one compels someone to do without persuading him...is violence rather
than law (1.2.45). Alcibiades, inspired by Pericles revision, then asks him if whatever the whole
multitude writes...when it overpowers those having wealth, would be violence rather than law?
(1.2.45). Pericles completely dodges the question, applauds Alcibiades youth and cleverness, and
makes a remark about how he himself was once like Alcibiades (1.2.46). Finally, Alcibiades states ...I
could have been your companion at the time, Pericles, when you where at your cleverest (1.2.46).
At stake here, is the extent to which the subversive nature of Socrates anti democratic pedagogical
praxis can be directly held responsible for having corrupted Alcibiades. Indeed, we learn earlier on in
the Memorabilia, that part of the logic

Interpreter Of Maladies Essay
Interpreter of Maladies is a collection of fictional short stories by highly acclaimed author Jhumpa
Lahiri. The book illustrates the lives of first and second generation Indian immigrants as they face the
challenges and struggles of living a culturally conflicted life in the United States. Lahiri herself was a
part of an immigrant household. She was born in London in 1967. Her mother and father were both
immigrants from India. They moved to the United States when she was two years old. Because her
mother wanted her to grow up aware of her Indian, specifically Bengali, heritage and traditions, they
frequently visited their relatives in Calcutta. Although Interpreter of Maladies is considered fictional,
critics suggest that it is also autobiographical because most of them are adapted from her friends ,
parents , and acquaintances lives. This paper will focus on three specific stories in the book namely:
When Mr. Pirzada Came to Dine, Mrs. Sen s, and The Third and Final Continent. The aforementioned
stories deal with the struggles and challenges faced by most immigrants, specifically, how they deal
with the clashing cultures of their old heritage and their new world. Lahiri s Interpreter of Maladies
illustrates that although migration entails struggles and sacrifices, the expatriate characters decided to
move to a foreign land because of their hopes for a better future, but the strong sense of attachment to
their Indian heritage made it difficult for some to adapt to their

The options are Prenatal Genetic Testing and Pre implantation Genetic Diagnosis. Prenatal Genetic
Testing (PGT) is to determine whether your unborn baby has inherited an expanded Huntington gene
copy.
Prenatal Genetic Testing options are Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) which involves taking a small
sample of cells from the chorion (which is the lining of the uterus that later turns into the placenta) and
Amniocentesis, which is when a small sample of amniotic fluid is removed for the testing (by passing
a fine needle through the abdominal wall and into the amniotic fluid surrounding the baby.)
Pre implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) is when some couples decide to choose in vitro
fertilization (IVF) to create embryos that are tested for an expanded Huntington gene. One Benefit of
PGD is the decisions regarding pregnancy termination can be avoided.
My opinion is, that the results are good. The results tell you whether you will have HD or not. I don t
agree with ASHG statement on pediatric genetic testing. I think you should know whether you have

The Culture At Nickelodeon, Crafted Carefully By Taran
The culture at Nickelodeon, crafted carefully by Taran Swan, was one that could be characterized as
creative, inclusive, heterarchical, and harmonious. Teamwork was of utmost importance in Swan s
Nickelodeon as well as reliability, so employees were able to communicate and work together, while
also focusing on delivering accurate individual contributions. Furthermore, the culture did not offer
preferential treatment to executive managers over lower level employees; instead, it followed a
heterarchical structure of treatment which generated a sense of equality and energized the workplace.
The inclusive nature of the culture was evidenced by what one department head said about their roles,

Additionally, Swan consistently asked questions to force her team members to think broadly about the
implications of their decisions to ensure that they visualize a bigger picture of the potential
consequences and to be able to think of alternatives ahead of time. Swan also encouraged the
individuality of the employees by setting different guidelines for the different focus groups she
established. This ensured that while these teams will collaborate and work together, they will still have
to work individually according to their own guidelines. Swan also emphasized the importance of
communication by leading bi monthly Update Meetings, rotating the meetings leadership based on the
feedback from an internal survey, and opening lines of communication with employees who were
having tensions with other members or who wanted to communicate with Swan directly.
3. Describe Swan s leadership style. What impact has it had on the culture? When assessing Swan s
leadership style, one cannot help but reference Ancona s four leadership capabilities. In the saturated
media market, Swan was quick to prioritize capturing attention and differentiating the brand in order
to convince affiliates and advertisers to choose Nickelodeon over the plethora of other channels.
Furthermore, she knew the importance of signing up advertisers ahead of time, even before there was

The Relationship Between Narcissism And The Frequency Of...
Communication 382
Haobang Lu
3/6/15
CHAPTER ONE
1.0 Introduction
1.1 Background
Quite a number of social scientific researches in the communication mainstream are developing at a
faster rate, particularly researches with a purpose of determining the relationship between the social
networking sites (the use of Instagram) and narcissism. It is therefore quite in order to explicitly
establish an appropriate technique of variable determination and hypothesis testing to effectively
address the concern of the relationship between narcissism and the frequency of active usage of
Instagram (Ames Anderson, 2006). Most previous researches have presented an objective opinion that
a variety of social networking behaviors conceptualizes the notion of Narcissism. The concept of
gender disparity and age differences have tremendously influenced the findings of most previous
researches (Jayson, 2009).
The fact that quite a number of social networking sites are actively used by most young adults, college
students and teenagers establishes several variations in conceptualizing an ideal connection between
narcissism and use of Instagram. The paper addresses the concept of narcissism and establishes the
fact it is perceived and used in reference to subclinical narcissism (Bergman et al., 2011). Subclinical
narcissism is perceived as a humanity trait that exist at various levels of age differences within the
normal population. On the same note, subclinical narcissism

The Next War Poem Analysis
In Wilfred Owen s war poetry, the distinctive idea criticised all through all his poetry are the ideas of
the horrors, brutality and waste of war and the hypocrisy and lies held by many back homes. This idea
is developed a significant amount in two of his poems, Dulce et Decorum Est and The Next War
through the shocking images Owen creates. With both poems being written in first person plural,
Owen invites us into his poem which allows his idea to be properly conveyed to his audience and his
desired outcome, to make the people back home realise the terror of war and complete lack of glory, to
be reached.
In Dulce et Decorum Est , Wilfred Owen boldly criticises the way civilians mislead and manipulated
the unknowing soldiers previous to and during World War I and explores the horrors of war. Owen
invites us into his poem by asking us to watch the scenes of men with white eyes writhing he is
retelling to make the reader feel what he is feeling, that the war is a waste. He speaks of events he
witnessed and the boys reactions to events seen through the simile of coughing like hags . In the final
stanza of the poem, Owen speaks reflectively of the terrifying scenes of men with incurable sores he
was witness to and at times experienced and from gaining the compassion of the reader through his
descriptive language, limped on, blood shod .
Owen delivers his idea on the war in a shocking way which allows us to see his angry and bitter views
on it. As Owen describes

Relationship Between Food And Food
In this essay we will be discussing the relationships between food choices and religious practices
through seasonal cycles and festive occasions that surround the Netherlands also to understand the
relationship between food consumption and religious practices and to analyze the role of food as an
expression of social identity.
As the main focus of this essay is directed towards religion, therefore we need an overview of the
religion in Netherlands. Firstly Christianity is the dominant religion followed by 51% of the Dutch
population, this consists of 31% being Roman Catholic, 13% Dutch reformed, and 7% to Protestants
including Anglicans, Baptists etc. 40% Have no Religion and 6% is Muslim mainly Moroccan and
Turkish descents, 2% Hindu and less than 1% Jewish. (Netherlands.2012)
However in the essay we will be focusing more on the dominant religion in the Netherlands which is
the Christian Based religion since it are the majority since the 1960s and also a lot of the food that are
well known and eaten in the Netherlands are highly associated with Christian holidays and traditions.
(Seth R, 1999)
In terms of the Dutch eating habits its seems that most of the choices are made through culture and
family tradition, since most Dutch people don t eat out regularly, also with Dutch people the main
meal is most important, which is a combination of meat, potatoes and vegetables. Sweet and savory
snacks are also eaten with the addition of frequent coffee breaks. This means that

Financial Analysis of Merck and Pfizer
Pharmaceutical Industry The pharmaceutical industry includes companies that research, develop,
market or distribute generic and branded drugs. The industry expanded during the 1980 s and drugs to
treat heart disease and AIDS were prominent. Consumer demand for nutritional supplements and
alternative medicine increased during the 1990 s with the Internet facilitating direct purchases of
drugs. Advertising for direct consumption of pharmaceutical drugs became more prominent;
pharmaceutical companies were criticized for over medicating personality or social problems. Society

Research and Development: Merck is a research driven company that has a new research and

allegations that Merck asked doctors to sign Merck written research studies for Vioxx. Merck disputes
the allegation, but more than 9,200 lawsuits were filed against the company. Vioxx had generated $2.5

patent protection on several drugs, a slowing pipeline, and a decreasing stock price. Merck is not
shying away from lawsuits and is taking cases to court. Its legal defense budget was increased, but it
did not set aside funds for liabilities showing that it confident it will win. The opinions of 200

Fashion Defines Individual Identity, Image, Shoes, And...
Streets are the Real Runways
The customer grasps the cold, brass doorknob, with a jerk, swings open the door, and walks inside.
Behind her, the bell, tied to the knob, rings and the cashier from the counter yells his greetings, as he
does for every customer. The customer continues walking, passing shelf after shelf full of tops,
blouses, and jackets all banal and redundant. Nevertheless, the customer finally stops and finds just
what she was looking for: a bright blue top, that will make her eyes pop for tonight s dinner date. She
will feel confident and beautiful tonight because of that blue blouse. A new top or a new trend, society
craves for fashionable outfits, shoes, and accessories. Fashion defines individual identity, impacts
perceptions, and portrays a symbolic meaning.
Fashion helps the individual grow and change one s emotional and physical identities. The clothes one
wears daily define how the individual feels and reflects one s attitudes and moods. For example, if an
individual is lethargic, one may be seen in sweatpants; if one is feeling powerful, the individual may
be seen in a suit. The phrase fashion choice does not just include the articles of clothing that one
chooses to put on; it also implies the identity the individual chooses to represent for the day. Many say
attitude is everything, but fashion is everything, because for many, clothing can determine the
animated attitude the individual chooses to display or not display for the day.

Modern Film On Our Rational And Critical Thought Processes
Frankfurt School philosophers fiercely debated the effects of modern film on our rational and critical
thought processes. Max Horkheimer and Theodor Adorno assert film is an oppressive technology that
makes us intellectually docile, while Walter Benjamin contests their assertion by recognizing film s
liberatory potential. Although Horkheimer and Adorno make important points about the current
relationship between film and the masses, they fail to acknowledge any possible changes to it. In the
context of futurity, Benjamin presents a convincing argument the technology of film can create
subjectivities that will help the masses assimilate into modernity. Horkheimer and Adorno s
understanding of film reflects our current reality. Although Benjamin acknowledges film s current
state, he envisions a future where film trains us to cope with the pressures of modernity. In The
Culture Industry: Enlightenment as Mass Deception, Horkheimer and Adorno argue film oppresses
our ability to think critically. They base their argument on how culture today is infecting everything
with sameness (Horkheimer 94). That is, the ubiquitous nature of film infects everyone with
identically diseased notions. The connotations of infection are clear: affliction, contamination, and
disorder. For Horkheimer and Adorno, the infection (film created by the bourgeois cultural elite)
forces us into a state of mental lethargy the masses uniformly accept film content with little resistance

Hiroshima, By John Hersey Essay
Mr. Tanimoto consciously repeated to himself These are human beings (Hersey 1946), as he attempted
to save paralyzed, dying men and women, in the book Hiroshima by John Hersey. This nonfiction
book was published on August 31 1946, a year after the atomic bombing fell on Hiroshima, Japan.
This publication was raw, uncensored, and truthful. John Hersey unapologetically revealed the
gruesome damages done by the bombing, while also silencing those who believed that the atomic
bomb was a justified attack. Hersey s brilliant journalism and ability to write this story without bias, is
why this book was selected. The author did not want those who died to be remembered as casualties,
but as mothers, fathers and children. Hersey wrote this book about the the physical, and psychological
impact this bomb had on both survivors and victims of the atomic bomb. There were many historical
events that contributed to the cause and effect of the atomic attack; historical events such as
industrialization, the trench wars, and militarism. This was not just a simple bomb, but a complex
attack on humanity.
On August 6th 1945, the first atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Hiroshima by the American
army. Author John Hersey document the lives of six survivors before, during, and after the detonation
of the bomb. These six survivors were Mr. Kiyoshi Tanimoto, Mrs. Hatsune Nakamura, Dr. Masakazu

Deceit is often embodied in particular characters in various works of literature. A character can have
selfish motives for lying or they can lie out of compassion. In A Streetcar Named Desire, Stella and
Blanche both lie to protect themselves and allow them to have a happy life. In Extremely Loud and
Incredibly Close, Oskar and his grandfather Thomas Schell lie to protect the ones they care about.
Both works show dishonest characters developing in different situations that shown no intent for spite
but rather concern for themselves or a loved one. In A Streetcar Named Desire, Blanche first comes

Gender Stereotypes In Huckleberry Finn
The moment a little boy is concerned with which is a jay and which is a sparrow, he can no longer see
the birds or hear them sing. (Eric Berne). Eric Berne differentiates a jay and a sparrow, two birds that
at a surface are nearly identical however have minor differences, being that they are in different
families. The deeper meaning is that people simply look at face value, the things that can assess from a
quick glance, from that the bias forms, the racist and sexist thoughts build up. History has seen women
not even being able to vote as their jobs were to only raise and have children, to races of all kind being
literally owned by a superior race. Despite the monumental advances made throughout history, for
both racial and gender ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Berne inclined in his quote, the minute (for context I mean small) differences in people are
pointless, and in the end, result in nothing gained if you judge one for it. The African American
population was enslaved for hundreds of years in America, only because of the difference in skin tone
and where their ancestors came from. Mark Twain satirizes that same time period, and with positive
developments as a result of wrong traditions of slaveholding, society still finds itself with similar
prejudices, as Wolf presented in his article. However, the lack of equality doesn t stop there, with
admittedly clear efforts to put an end to it. sexism is still an ever growing problem. Women were once
housewives, and with Women s Suffrage, they received their God given rights, yet they still are denied
the same opportunities their male counterparts are afforded. Afterall, through these sources, it is
evident that society today still holds values that have not only been deemed incorrect but also are
outdated and are without any clear justification for them. The horrible realization to make is that
racism and sexism still exist in society, the same society, however, wishes to cast aside such prejudice
but also is also the one that secretly still holds onto them. With this in mind, as well as the knowledge
that progress for equality comes with every minute, hopefully,

Animalistic Characterism In Herman Melville s Moby Dick
For Herman Melville s character, Ishmael, to be aboard a whaling ship is a new experience, a vivid
taste of human nature, and most importantly a test of character. It shares these many extreme attributes
with another familiar setting: Hell. Melville uses his writing throughout Moby Dick to create an
absolutely infernal atmosphere. He does this by using animalistic personification, creating a beastly
environment and alludes to the devil on more than one account. Finally, Melville leaves out no detail
when describing the vivid imagery of the flames in the try works, an area aboard the ship. Throughout
this passage, a hellish theme is created through the combined use of beastly personification, bedeviled
allusions, and flame engulfed imagery.
The dangerous aura of this writing is in part due to Melville s use of beastly personification. Melville
personifies the ship, flames, and machinery, in order to create a more vivid, physical image. He
describes the hectic nature of the try works, The snaky flames darted, curling, out of the doors to catch
them by the feet. Melville wields words like snaky to create a cryptic serpentine imagery and a feeling
of danger with the ever present threat of flames that may Catch them by the feet. In both scenarios, the
use of items that are generally understood as chilling aid to the hellish theme. In addition to this, it is
the use of agitated and fiery vocabulary that is speckled throughout the personification that truly
creates a hellish image in the reader s mind. Melville does this intentionally, to paint similarities
between the fires in hell and those aboard the ship, possibly relating the snaky flames to the serpent in
Genesis, who is generally used to represent sin. Melville s personified language is no accident, and he
employs his words to force an infernal atmosphere upon the reader. The use of allusions, specifically
allusions to hell, throughout this passage are purposeful, and used to reinforce a hellish theme using
very specific wording. In the beginning of the passage Melville literally compares the try works to the
Devil, ...Standing on this were the Tartarean shapes of the pagan harpooners...With huge pronged

Ignorance of the law will not likely be an adequate defense when involved in a liability suit. That s the

However, there are many ways that drivers can unknowingly commit negligent driving acts. If you get

emotions that lead to hurtful words and uneasiness. If these conflicts are not resolved in a healthy way,
resentment and a dissolved relationship could follow. However, when they are resolved in a proper
manner, it could promote growth between the couple and fortify the bonds of their relationship
(Conflict Resolution Skills).
In the case between Lenora and Joshua, they are having a disagreement about Lenora returning to the
workforce, now, when Christa is only 3 months old instead of waiting until Christa is 5 years old. To
handle this situation properly, there are ten guidelines that can assist ... Show more content on

Joshua must understand that Christa s needs are not just Lenora s responsibility. His participation is
detrimental towards the development of their child.
Guideline 4: Avoid Mixed, of Double Messages
Leonora needs to mitigate criticizing Joshua on how his income doesn t cover the monthly expenses.
She should demonstrate that if she returned to work, the financial burden would be reduced.
Joshua s perspective on day care should be emphasized because it will produce an unnecessary
expense. Furthermore, a large part of their income would result in the consumption of day care.
Guideline 5: When You Can, Choose the Time and Place Carefully
Lenora and Joshua should set time aside to discuss their conflict instead of randomly arguing over the
same issues. By doing this, it gives each other time to put thoughts together instead of saying
something that they don t mean or is derogatory.
Guideline 6: Address a Specific Issue, Ask for a Specific Change, and Be Open to Compromise
Lenora needs to express her desire to go back to work because it will benefit both Christa and the
family. But at the same time, Lenora should consider the affect it will have on her when she goes back
to work. Maybe the solution could be to compromise with Joshua, to stay at home for one more year,
to nurture Christa.
Joshua should sympathize with her desire to go back to work for the positive effects it will have on the
family s welfare. He should analyze the

Poverty, for example, has caused several problems of the family and they still suffer from them. Rural
poverty is very severe than other societies and is widespread in remote areas (Duncan Tickamyer,

There is, however, an easy counter to fear: information. If the public becomes informed about a topic,

American life. One of the most reputable, trustworthy, and knowledgeable sources for chemistry
information is the American government, only they (and the various scientists within their ranks) have

Natural is the most prominent offender: unlike most countries, the United States has no specific
regulations for the term natural on products. It can be used almost anywhere with no issue, (Hansen)
leaving individual companies in the food industry to determine what they want the term to mean.
Foods containing natural flavors, sweeteners, and other plant derived substances can be labeled
natural... Foods containing High Fructose Corn Syrup and genetically engineered ingredients can also
be labeled natural... Many other other synthetic materials can be used to process natural foods as long
as they aren t in the final product. (Hansen)
While it is made clear that the term natural is nonsense, the consumer does not realize this. In 2012,
Consumer Reports did a survey on the perception of the term natural on food: While over 60% of
those surveyed believed the term to mean a product lacking pesticides, GMOs, and artificial
ingredients, the word means no such thing. 62% go out of their way to buy foods specifically labeled
natural, which represents how impactful the word is. Just by slapping the word on a package
immediately makes it more profitable, with no drawback suffered by the marketer. This abuse is not
simply limited to natural: artisan doesn t have any legal definition (Bell), yet is used in many meats,
cheeses, and breads. While cage free chickens aren t legally allowed to be stuck in a tiny

Social Hierarchy Of The Vikings
social hierarchy: 1. social hierarchy the social hierarchy has 4 levels. the thralls, karls, jarls and kings.
social hierarchy is a kind of social differentiation that shows the groups of people in their societies
based upon their occupation and income, wealth and social status, or derived power. 2. Kings The
Vikings did not have a government. Instead, each village or town had its own king or chief. The kings
were the most powerful people in Viking society. Kings were not viewed as sacred, or special. Instead,
they were viewed as impressive men. A king was expected to be generous not only with food and
drink, but with clothes and weapons and gifts. He was expected to maintain his followers honor
against outsiders. He had to lead. He was required to be a strong fighter, daring, crafty, and hard, since
he fought hand to hand beside his men. He had to be a good public speaker, cheerful and inspirational
and able to inspire his men. 3. Jarls The Jarls were very wealthy people who lived and owned the best
houses. The Jarls kept many slaves and employed vikings to work for them. The Jarls had many
followers, treasure, ships, and estates. 4. Karls The karls were everyday farmers, craftsmen, sailors,
and warriors. The karls grew oats, barley and wheat. The Karls grounded the grain to make flour,
porridge and ale. Vikings grew vegetables such as onions, beans and cabbages. Their farm animals
include pigs, sheep, goats, cattle, geese and chickens. They used manure from the animals

The Importance Of Treatment For Bulimia Nervosa
This paper demonstrates the significance of treatment for Bulimia Nervosa as well as which way of
treatment is best for Bulimia. The purpose of this research is to analyze the best treatments for
Bulimia Nervosa. More emphasis on the question, is Bulimia Nervosa best treated with Cognitive
Behavioral Therapy or with antidepressants such as Adapin or Prozac? Furthermore, in the paper the
results will indicate the efficacy of treatment of which method of treatment is best for Bulimia.
Bulimia Nervosa is characterized by The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders as
eating in a discrete period, of time (e.g., within any two hour period), and amount of food that is
definitely larger than what most individuals would eat in a similar period of time under similar
circumstances (DSM (5th ed., [DSM 5], American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013). It can also
be characterized as a sense of lack of control over eating during the episode (e.g., a feeling that one
cannot stop eating or control what or how much one is eating) (DSM (5th ed., [DSM 5], American
Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013). Bulimia was known to be very difficult to treat when it first
was acknowledged (Hudson, Pope, Harrison Jonas, 1983). Fortunately today it can be treated by drug
or cognitive therapy. Since that time, a vast variety of treatments have been looked into, and since then
two approaches have been known to establish efficacy (Hudson, et al.). One is cognitive behavioral
therapy.

Commercials and Their Propaganda Techniques
Why do commercials use propaganda techniques? Is it to influence our emotions or is it because they
lack actual factual support for their claims? The answer is both. Propaganda techniques are used by
advertisers, salespeople, and politicians because they lack adequate factual support for their points, so
they appeal to our emotions by using propaganda techniques. In the particular commercial for the
Samsung Galaxy smart phones, Name Calling, Plain Folks, and Bandwagon propaganda techniques
are used. It is no secret that smart phone creators have to appeal to average consumers and get them to
jump on board to buy their product. So in a not so surprising way to gather new customers, Samsung

Demise of the Weimar Republic
The demise of the Weimar Republic did not occur due to one sole reason, but because of a number of
short and long term factors. The economic, political and international pressure placed on the people of
Germany ensured the loathing of the forced governmental rule. The immediate impact of the Great
Depression of 1929, which has been debated and considered by most historians to be the dominant
factor in the downfall of the democratic experiment which subsequently led to continuous political
instability ultimately saw the collapse of the first democratic government of Germany.
Some historians generally blame the fall of the Republic on president von Hindenburg s abuse of
constitutional powers. Historian David Martin states that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Before the US dollar has been 4.2 marks, by 1920 it was worth 64.8 marks thus German taxation
increased. Anyone with access to even a few pounds became a trillionaires over night. The losers of
the hyperinflation were those with a fixed income, the working class, people living off their savings
and wage earners. By June 1923, the government had lost control of the economy, as strikes swepped
the country as workers protested about the rising unemployment and the failure of their wages to keep
up with the cost of living. In August, the govenment finally fell, with President Ebert called for the
leader of the German people party, Streseman, to form a new party. He formed the great coalition
which brought together left and right wing. In the next six years, German society picked up with the
induction into the League of Nations, the Dawes plan of 1924 which provided foreign loans to
Germany and the Young Plan which saw the reduction in Germany s reparation figure by 95 million.
The downside of Germany s new economic prosperity meant that society was living off borrowed
money and was over dependant on foreign loans and investment. The economic power was
concentrated in the hands of influential industrialists and bankers and employment was still on the
rise. Within these six years, the Weimar republic surprisingly enjoyed a period of relative political
stability.

Equal Employment Opportunity And Employee Rights
Equal Employment Opportunity and Employee Rights Review Many laws have been put into place to
protect employees and employers. The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and the Equal
Employment Opportunity Act of 1972 (EEOA) are two such acts. These laws protect workers from
termination for causes outlined in the acts. Drug testing has become popular for many businesses in
today s society. It upsets many employees because they think that what they do in their own time does
not affect what they do at work. Summary ADA prohibits discrimination against those with disabilities
(DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013). Part of their definition of someone with a disability is one who
has a physical or mental impairment that limits one or more major life activity (DeCenzo, Robbins,
Verhulst, 2013). To be protected a person with a disability must be capable of performing the essential
functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013).
The qualified person must meet the necessary requirements for the position (DeCenzo, Robbins,
Verhulst, 2013). For example, an employee for Pizza Hut must have a food handler s card. Essential
job functions need to be specific in the job descriptions (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013).
Reasonable accommodations include activities or modifications to the work environment that allow
the qualified person to perform the work (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013). For example, the

What Does The Light Symbolize In The Black Cat
Authors who write literature often put their feelings into their work which can cause us to connect
with how the authors feel sometimes. Authors as well have some sort of past so that often without
thinking write something that can be a symbolize something from their past, so if they had a bad past
then their literature may be tragic or gothic. For example The Black Cat written by Edgar Allan Poe
uses a light and dark theme which can go along with the gothic theme. Light and Dark symbolize how
dark Poe s childhood was since he writes about death, murder, and other gory storylines. Poe uses
light and dark to show the different aspects of the narrators and how guilt can consume a person. One
example of the thesis is the black cat who was in the wall with the corpse the whole time. The quote
for this found on page eight goes like this I had walled the monster up within the wall so the narrator
never noticed when the cat slipped into the tomb with the corpse and was in the tomb for days. This
quote supports the thesis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The quote for the light part of my thesis is I love the old man this represents the light part because he

of his hideous heart this means that the guilt has consumed him but before that he went through so
much madness because of the vulture eye that it caused the narrator to murder the old man even tho he
loved the old man. The eye I believe is like a vulture s eye because I believe that the old man had
cataracts causing to have a vulture like eye because vultures usually have a eye with cataracts. So in
conclusion The Tell Tale Heart does represent my

The Curse Of Humanity Is The Inescapable Presence Of...
I carry a red sweater, a fair amount of cough drop and gum wrappers, pencil shavings, and 3
calculators, 2 of which I rarely use. If someone were to weigh the contents of my backpack, there
would be significant error in the approximation. The curse of humanity is the inescapable presence of
sentimentality and emotion, things which often latch onto physical objects. So in measuring the things
I carry, one would have to take into account the burdens which cannot be seen by the limited scope of
the human eye. The greatest weights I bear are attached to the smallest of articles; a sunscreen bottle,
an albuterol inhaler, and two pills of ibuprofen. I carry the knowledge of my inherent flaws and the
insecurities that come from having these inadequacies through all of my darkest moments, and
sometimes even my brightest. To be reminded of the breadth of human flaw is humbling to an extent.
When the things which I carry, like my albuterol and sunscreen bottle, are constant reminders of my
own weaknesses, then this humbling idea becomes a destructive one. The fact that the albuterol
inhaler treats an incurable disease is not what makes my burden so heavy. The albuterol inhaler calls
to my mind the idea that I am unable to change the intrinsic parts about my person. While this may
seem to be an obvious burden, one which we must all face, it is nonetheless a burden that can at times
inhibit self confidence. The inhaler reminds me that there are things which asthma prevents

Contributions Of Sir Robert Peel
1. Who is Sir Robert Peel? What contributions did he make to law enforcement?
Sir Robert Peel was known as the father of modern policing for drafting the Act for refining the police
force that resided in the Metropolis which was passed in 1829; this bill was called the Metropolitan
Police Act. According to Dempsey and Forst (2016, p.7), His link to policing comes from his
influence in getting the police bill passed. The early London police were guided by Peel s Nine
Principles. Sir Robert s contribution to compose a bill later brought about the idea that United States
policing to be similar to Peels English model.
2. What was the first federal law enforcement agency? What were its duties?
The first federal Law Enforcement agency was created in 1838 in Boston. The force was not fully
uniformed until 1859 wearing blue jackets and white hats consisting of only eight members. Their
duties until 1853 were maintaining public health. According to Dempsey and Forst(2016, p. 10), In

Unity of command: Each individual in any specific category can only have one superintendent; This

Home Schooling Essay examples
Some 20 years ago only a mere 50,000 children were home schooled, and that was mainly by hippie
parents who wanted to protect their children from what they called the system. Now it is estimated
that nearly 1.5 to 2 million children are now schooled at home each year, dissatisfaction with the
American public school system being the number one reason (Crary). Since most home schooling
families can t afford it, they choose not to send their kids to a good private school. In the next few
paragraphs, I will speak of the pros and cons of home schooling children and the fundamentals of
home schooling.
Here s a fact, the 2000 champion of the Scripps Howard National Spelling

It is shown that 69% of home schooled children go on to college compared to 70% of public school
students and 90% of private school children. How do they get in? Parents are subject to send in a
portfolio of some of their children s work and also of their accomplishments. If they are required to
take a standardized test, they will take them also. And if they need a transcript, either the mother or
father will sit down and compute one on the computer. Some 2/3 s of the colleges accept such a
transcript (Anderson).
Why do people home school? It is found that families choose to home school because they want
higher curriculum enrichment and want more opportunities for the child to accelerate. The main
reason for home schooling though is because of moral and religious reasons; they want to remove
their children from a defunct school environment. There are also the families who use home schooling
in a more negative way. Some single mothers are now home schooling their children so that they can
have babysitter for their younger children while they work 2 jobs to support the family. Some are
taking their children out of public schools because of disciplinary problems yet they aren t motivated
or skilled enough to teach their children on their own.
Critics believe that by home schooling your child, you are taking them away from their peers and
therefore retarding their socialization. They also believe that home schooling is a form of child abuse
because you are

Child And Adolescent Psychiatric Disorders And Their Daily...
Mental Health is not merely the absence of psychopathology, but the presence of sufficient levels of
emotional, psychological, and social well being (Keyes, 2002). Over the lasts 20 years, there has been
a shift in understanding the epidemiological study of child and adolescent psychiatric disorders and
their daily functioning. About one out of every ten youths is estimated to meet the Substance Abuse
and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) criteria for a Serious Emotional Disturbance
(SED), (Costello et al, 2005) defined as a mental health problem that has a drastic impact on a child s
ability to function socially, emotionally, and academically (Brauner and Stephens, 2006). Children
who have difficulty paying attention, following directions, getting along with others, and controlling
negative emotions of anger and distress do less well in school (McClelland et al., 2000). For many
children, academic achievement in their first few years of schooling appears to be built on a firm
foundation of children s emotional and social skills (Raver, 2002).
Twenty years ago, treatments for children diagnosed with serious emotional disturbance (SED)
consisted of services offered primarily in inpatient hospitals, residential centers, or outpatient centers;
most of these treatment settings included limited family involvement (Ringeisen Hoagwood, 2002).
The challenges faced by these services include ensuring the generalization and maintenance of
treatment effects after

A historical rarity, two superpowers fought rigorously across the globe for support, each carving out their own sphere of influence. The bi polar of international affairs resulted in an arms buildup between the United States and the Soviet Union; including weapons that exceeded the atomic bomb, then the most effective and destructive weapon in price and devastation. Yet, to everyone s surprise, the Cold War abruptly ended in 1990 with the collapse of the Soviet Union under its own economic weakness, its political conflict, and military farce. A decade later, we ask: Who can claim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to give such a question its proper justice, we must first explore the world near the end and directly following the second world war, the landscape, which in fact, birthed the Cold War. The second World War against Nazi aggression was fought by the Allies on two fronts; The British and Americans pushing from the West, the Soviets, alone, fighting German troops on the East. By 1945, without aid from the US or the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union began to gradually push the Nazi forces back West, as he other Allies pushed from the beaches of Normandy. Soviet troops would eventually occupy much of Eastern Europe, to the dismay of Roosevelt and Churchill. At Yalta, Stalin assured free elections in the region following the unconditional surrender of Germany. At Yalta, also, is where the Soviets, along with the English pledged support towards the United States in the Pacific Ocean. It was at this point in the war that the United States and the Soviet Union began competition, and possibly even earlier since the implementation of Lend Lease. Firstly, the United States, without informing Joseph Stalin, sent two atomic bombs on Japan, one on Hiroshima and the other on Nagasaki. Stalin s ignorance, perhaps, was a ploy of the United States government, which feared the presence of Soviet troops in the region, believing that the Soviet Union would want territorial concessions in Asia as they did in Europe. • 6. On Democracy, Corruption, And Tyranny Essay Section 2: On Democracy, Corruption, and Tyranny Consider, for example, Pericles assertion that law is all things...that the assembled multitude has approved and written, pointing out what should and should not be done (1.2.42). Alcibiades then asks Pericles what if it is not the multitude, but the resembled few who write [the law]? What is this this? (1.2.43); Pericles concedes that is too can be considered as law (1.2.43). Alcibiades then asks what [then becomes of] violence and lawlessness? Is it not when one who is stronger compels one who is weaker not by persuasion but by the use of violence? (1.2.44). Pericles revises his initial position by stating that everything...that one compels someone to do without persuading him...is violence rather than law (1.2.45). Alcibiades, inspired by Pericles revision, then asks him if whatever the whole multitude writes...when it overpowers those having wealth, would be violence rather than law? (1.2.45). Pericles completely dodges the question, applauds Alcibiades youth and cleverness, and makes a remark about how he himself was once like Alcibiades (1.2.46). Finally, Alcibiades states ...I could have been your companion at the time, Pericles, when you where at your cleverest (1.2.46). At stake here, is the extent to which the subversive nature of Socrates anti democratic pedagogical praxis can be directly held responsible for having corrupted Alcibiades. • 7. Interpreter Of Maladies Essay Interpreter of Maladies is a collection of fictional short stories by highly acclaimed author Jhumpa Lahiri. The book illustrates the lives of first and second generation Indian immigrants as they face the challenges and struggles of living a culturally conflicted life in the United States. Lahiri herself was a part of an immigrant household. She was born in London in 1967. Her mother and father were both immigrants from India. They moved to the United States when she was two years old. Because her mother wanted her to grow up aware of her Indian, specifically Bengali, heritage and traditions, they frequently visited their relatives in Calcutta. Although Interpreter of Maladies is considered fictional, critics suggest that it is also autobiographical because most of them are adapted from her friends , parents , and acquaintances lives. This paper will focus on three specific stories in the book namely: When Mr. Pirzada Came to Dine, Mrs. Sen s, and The Third and Final Continent. The aforementioned stories deal with the struggles and challenges faced by most immigrants, specifically, how they deal with the clashing cultures of their old heritage and their new world. Lahiri s Interpreter of Maladies illustrates that although migration entails struggles and sacrifices, the expatriate characters decided to move to a foreign land because of their hopes for a better future, but the strong sense of attachment to their Indian heritage made it difficult for some to adapt to their ... • 10. The Relationship Between Narcissism And The Frequency Of... Communication 382 Haobang Lu 3/6/15 CHAPTER ONE 1.0 Introduction 1.1 Background Quite a number of social scientific researches in the communication mainstream are developing at a faster rate, particularly researches with a purpose of determining the relationship between the social networking sites (the use of Instagram) and narcissism. It is therefore quite in order to explicitly establish an appropriate technique of variable determination and hypothesis testing to effectively address the concern of the relationship between narcissism and the frequency of active usage of Instagram (Ames Anderson, 2006). Most previous researches have presented an objective opinion that a variety of social networking behaviors conceptualizes the notion of Narcissism. The concept of gender disparity and age differences have tremendously influenced the findings of most previous researches (Jayson, 2009). The fact that quite a number of social networking sites are actively used by most young adults, college students and teenagers establishes several variations in conceptualizing an ideal connection between narcissism and use of Instagram. The paper addresses the concept of narcissism and establishes the fact it is perceived and used in reference to subclinical narcissism (Bergman et al., 2011). Subclinical narcissism is perceived as a humanity trait that exist at various levels of age differences within the normal population. On the same note, subclinical narcissism ... • 11. The Next War Poem Analysis In Wilfred Owen s war poetry, the distinctive idea criticised all through all his poetry are the ideas of the horrors, brutality and waste of war and the hypocrisy and lies held by many back homes. This idea is developed a significant amount in two of his poems, Dulce et Decorum Est and The Next War through the shocking images Owen creates. With both poems being written in first person plural, Owen invites us into his poem which allows his idea to be properly conveyed to his audience and his desired outcome, to make the people back home realise the terror of war and complete lack of glory, to be reached. In Dulce et Decorum Est , Wilfred Owen boldly criticises the way civilians mislead and manipulated the unknowing soldiers previous to and during World War I and explores the horrors of war. Owen invites us into his poem by asking us to watch the scenes of men with white eyes writhing he is retelling to make the reader feel what he is feeling, that the war is a waste. He speaks of events he witnessed and the boys reactions to events seen through the simile of coughing like hags . In the final stanza of the poem, Owen speaks reflectively of the terrifying scenes of men with incurable sores he was witness to and at times experienced and from gaining the compassion of the reader through his descriptive language, limped on, blood shod . Owen delivers his idea on the war in a shocking way which allows us to see his angry and bitter views on it. As Owen describes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Fashion Defines Individual Identity, Image, Shoes, And... Streets are the Real Runways The customer grasps the cold, brass doorknob, with a jerk, swings open the door, and walks inside. Behind her, the bell, tied to the knob, rings and the cashier from the counter yells his greetings, as he does for every customer. The customer continues walking, passing shelf after shelf full of tops, blouses, and jackets all banal and redundant. Nevertheless, the customer finally stops and finds just what she was looking for: a bright blue top, that will make her eyes pop for tonight s dinner date. She will feel confident and beautiful tonight because of that blue blouse. A new top or a new trend, society craves for fashionable outfits, shoes, and accessories. Fashion defines individual identity, impacts perceptions, and portrays a symbolic meaning. Fashion helps the individual grow and change one s emotional and physical identities. The clothes one wears daily define how the individual feels and reflects one s attitudes and moods. For example, if an individual is lethargic, one may be seen in sweatpants; if one is feeling powerful, the individual may be seen in a suit. The phrase fashion choice does not just include the articles of clothing that one chooses to put on; it also implies the identity the individual chooses to represent for the day. • 15. Modern Film On Our Rational And Critical Thought Processes Frankfurt School philosophers fiercely debated the effects of modern film on our rational and critical thought processes. Max Horkheimer and Theodor Adorno assert film is an oppressive technology that makes us intellectually docile, while Walter Benjamin contests their assertion by recognizing film s liberatory potential. Although Horkheimer and Adorno make important points about the current relationship between film and the masses, they fail to acknowledge any possible changes to it. In the context of futurity, Benjamin presents a convincing argument the technology of film can create subjectivities that will help the masses assimilate into modernity. Horkheimer and Adorno s understanding of film reflects our current reality. Although Benjamin acknowledges film s current state, he envisions a future where film trains us to cope with the pressures of modernity. In The Culture Industry: Enlightenment as Mass Deception, Horkheimer and Adorno argue film oppresses our ability to think critically. They base their argument on how culture today is infecting everything with sameness (Horkheimer 94). That is, the ubiquitous nature of film infects everyone with identically diseased notions. The connotations of infection are clear: affliction, contamination, and disorder. For Horkheimer and Adorno, the infection (film created by the bourgeois cultural elite) forces us into a state of mental lethargy the masses uniformly accept film content with little resistance ... • 16. Hiroshima, By John Hersey Essay Mr. Tanimoto consciously repeated to himself These are human beings (Hersey 1946), as he attempted to save paralyzed, dying men and women, in the book Hiroshima by John Hersey. This nonfiction book was published on August 31 1946, a year after the atomic bombing fell on Hiroshima, Japan. This publication was raw, uncensored, and truthful. John Hersey unapologetically revealed the gruesome damages done by the bombing, while also silencing those who believed that the atomic bomb was a justified attack. Hersey s brilliant journalism and ability to write this story without bias, is why this book was selected. The author did not want those who died to be remembered as casualties, but as mothers, fathers and children. Hersey wrote this book about the the physical, and psychological impact this bomb had on both survivors and victims of the atomic bomb. There were many historical events that contributed to the cause and effect of the atomic attack; historical events such as industrialization, the trench wars, and militarism. This was not just a simple bomb, but a complex attack on humanity. On August 6th 1945, the first atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Hiroshima by the American army. Author John Hersey document the lives of six survivors before, during, and after the detonation of the bomb. • 19. Animalistic Characterism In Herman Melville s Moby Dick For Herman Melville s character, Ishmael, to be aboard a whaling ship is a new experience, a vivid taste of human nature, and most importantly a test of character. It shares these many extreme attributes with another familiar setting: Hell. Melville uses his writing throughout Moby Dick to create an absolutely infernal atmosphere. He does this by using animalistic personification, creating a beastly environment and alludes to the devil on more than one account. Finally, Melville leaves out no detail when describing the vivid imagery of the flames in the try works, an area aboard the ship. Throughout this passage, a hellish theme is created through the combined use of beastly personification, bedeviled allusions, and flame engulfed imagery. The dangerous aura of this writing is in part due to Melville s use of beastly personification. Melville personifies the ship, flames, and machinery, in order to create a more vivid, physical image. He describes the hectic nature of the try works, The snaky flames darted, curling, out of the doors to catch them by the feet. Melville wields words like snaky to create a cryptic serpentine imagery and a feeling of danger with the ever present threat of flames that may Catch them by the feet. In both scenarios, the use of items that are generally understood as chilling aid to the hellish theme. In addition to this, it is the use of agitated and fiery vocabulary that is speckled throughout the personification that truly creates a hellish image in the reader s mind. Melville does this intentionally, to paint similarities between the fires in hell and those aboard the ship, possibly relating the snaky flames to the serpent in Genesis, who is generally used to represent sin. Melville s personified language is no accident, and he employs his words to force an infernal atmosphere upon the reader. The use of allusions, specifically allusions to hell, throughout this passage are purposeful, and used to reinforce a hellish theme using very specific wording. If someone were to weigh the contents of my backpack, there would be significant error in the approximation. The curse of humanity is the inescapable presence of sentimentality and emotion, things which often latch onto physical objects. So in measuring the things I carry, one would have to take into account the burdens which cannot be seen by the limited scope of the human eye. The greatest weights I bear are attached to the smallest of articles; a sunscreen bottle, an albuterol inhaler, and two pills of ibuprofen. I carry the knowledge of my inherent flaws and the insecurities that come from having these inadequacies through all of my darkest moments, and sometimes even my brightest. To be reminded of the breadth of human flaw is humbling to an extent. When the things which I carry, like my albuterol and sunscreen bottle, are constant reminders of my own weaknesses, then this humbling idea becomes a destructive one. The fact that the albuterol inhaler treats an incurable disease is not what makes my burden so heavy. The albuterol inhaler calls to my mind the idea that I am unable to change the intrinsic parts about my person. While this may seem to be an obvious burden, one which we must all face, it is nonetheless a burden that can at times inhibit self confidence. The inhaler reminds me that there are things which asthma prevents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sir Robert Peel was known as the father of modern policing for drafting the Act for refining the police force that resided in the Metropolis which was passed in 1829; this bill was called the Metropolitan Police Act. According to Dempsey and Forst (2016, p.7), His link to policing comes from his influence in getting the police bill passed. The early London police were guided by Peel s Nine Principles. Sir Robert s contribution to compose a bill later brought about the idea that United States policing to be similar to Peels English model. 2. What was the first federal law enforcement agency? What were its duties? The first federal Law Enforcement agency was created in 1838 in Boston. The force was not fully uniformed until 1859 wearing blue jackets and white hats consisting of only eight members. Their duties until 1853 were maintaining public health. According to Dempsey and Forst(2016, p. 10), In New York City, under the leadership of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The responsibility is left with the officers to fulfill, but the authority lies with the superintendent to give orders and assume compliance from their officers. According to Dempsey and Forst (2016, p. 82), Tasks, duties, and responsibilities are assigned to subordinates, along with the power or authority to control, command, make decisions, or otherwise act in order to complete the tasks that have been delegated or assigned to them. Unity of command: Each individual in any specific category can only have one superintendent; This can only be violated in emergency circumstances. According to Dempsey and Forst (2016, p. 82), This concept is important, because no one person can effectively serve two supervisors at one time. Even in large organizations, this principle holds ... • 36. Home Schooling Essay examples Some 20 years ago only a mere 50,000 children were home schooled, and that was mainly by hippie parents who wanted to protect their children from what they called the system. Now it is estimated that nearly 1.5 to 2 million children are now schooled at home each year, dissatisfaction with the American public school system being the number one reason (Crary). Since most home schooling families can t afford it, they choose not to send their kids to a good private school. In the next few paragraphs, I will speak of the pros and cons of home schooling children and the fundamentals of home schooling. Here s a fact, the 2000 champion of the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee is a home schooled student and 27 of the 248 spelling bee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is shown that 69% of home schooled children go on to college compared to 70% of public school students and 90% of private school children. How do they get in? Parents are subject to send in a portfolio of some of their children s work and also of their accomplishments. If they are required to take a standardized test, they will take them also. And if they need a transcript, either the mother or father will sit down and compute one on the computer. Some 2/3 s of the colleges accept such a transcript (Anderson). Why do people home school? It is found that families choose to home school because they want higher curriculum enrichment and want more opportunities for the child to accelerate. The main reason for home schooling though is because of moral and religious reasons; they want to remove their children from a defunct school environment. There are also the families who use home schooling in a more negative way. Some single mothers are now home schooling their children so that they can have babysitter for their younger children while they work 2 jobs to support the family. Some are taking their children out of public schools because of disciplinary problems yet they aren t motivated or skilled enough to teach their children on their own. Critics believe that by home schooling your child, you are taking them away from their peers and therefore retarding their socialization. They also believe that home schooling is a form of child abuse because you are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Child And Adolescent Psychiatric Disorders And Their Daily... Mental Health is not merely the absence of psychopathology, but the presence of sufficient levels of emotional, psychological, and social well being (Keyes, 2002). Over the lasts 20 years, there has been a shift in understanding the epidemiological study of child and adolescent psychiatric disorders and their daily functioning. About one out of every ten youths is estimated to meet the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) criteria for a Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED), (Costello et al, 2005) defined as a mental health problem that has a drastic impact on a child s ability to function socially, emotionally, and academically (Brauner and Stephens, 2006). Children who have difficulty paying attention, following directions, getting along with others, and controlling negative emotions of anger and distress do less well in school (McClelland et al., 2000). For many children, academic achievement in their first few years of schooling appears to be built on a firm foundation of children s emotional and social skills (Raver, 2002). Twenty years ago, treatments for children diagnosed with serious emotional disturbance (SED) consisted of services offered primarily in inpatient hospitals, residential centers, or outpatient centers; most of these treatment settings included limited family involvement (Ringeisen Hoagwood, 2002). The challenges faced by these services include ensuring the generalization and maintenance of treatment effects after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
