Erucius Argumentative Essay
I was asked to be in the First Triumvirate this morning. So many thoughts are rushing through my
head now. Why would Ceaser want me in the First Triumvirate if I wanted him dead? Why would they
make something so unconstitutional? Why would Pompey join such a horrific group? Now, you are
probably wondering how did I get here and how did this all start, well this is where it begins... I
believe it all began when I was in my first legal case. I successfully argued my first legal case
defending a man charged with I parricide. When the trial began Erucius gave a long speech about the
case, although I would say it was slightly biased my charisma will easily persuade the crowd into
thinking that Roscius is innocent...(https://archive.org/stream/jstor 4387008/4387008_djvu.txt) ...

6 Months Later
For the past six months I have been trying to separate Pompey from the rest of the Triumvirate, and
today he finally told me to stop. I believe my next steps are trying to start working in the fields of
philosophy and writing (http://www.notablebiographies.com/Ch Co/Cicero Marcus Tullius.html).
9 Years Later I am extremely disappointed, The Second Triumvirate was just formed two days ago.
One of my major concerns is that I am on their watch list. I am also hearing rumors that the

How The Rising Swedish Democratic Party Is An Acceptable...
It is quite common knowledge in North America that the true bastions of liberal, social democracy lie
in the north; Scandinavia has in recent years become what neoliberals deem as an acceptable balance
between socialism and western democracy. This is supplemented that, according to Forbes and several
other periodicals, Scandinavian countries such as Denmark and Norway tend to rank highest in terms
of overall happiness. However these seeming utopias of democracy have stark differences between
themselves and North Americans; their populations are substantially lower, tax rates are far higher,
and the results of unending migration from the Levant and beyond have resulted in an exponential
increase in crime. This has led to a rise in support for right wing parties among a more traditionally
socialist region. As seen in articles by Dalstrom and Esaiasson as well as Hinnfors, Spehar and
Bucken Knapp, this is not a new phenomenon in Sweden; immigration has been a matter of concern
for quite some time in Europe. This paper will seek to establish how the rising Swedish Democratic
Party has aggregated decades of social desire within Sweden as well as a correlation between influxes
in refugees, international and national crises, and rise in anti immigrant sentiment. Socialist
democracies in Scandinavia were brought about in correlation with the Nordic model of governance,
also known as Nordic capitalism or Nordic social democracy. A prevalent system of governance since
the 1980s, the

Opening Film Essay
Rango
It s not always easy to relate the story of a talking lizard to the history of the world. Or at least, that s
they want the watchers to think. The truth is that there are many different themes that tie into the
world s past. Rango (the talking lizard) can represent some of the world s most influential leaders; the
mayor, who is a talking turtle, corresponds to the corrupted government of countries. In a way, many
of the themes in this movie relate to one another. Human identity, religion, government, hero worship,
and human adaptation, is only the beginning of what this film uncovers about the world, and the
human species itself. The biggest and most occurring questions asked in Rango are the ... Show more

The once great leader became corrupted by the notion of power and influence he had over the towns
people by controlling what they needed the most; water. The mayor wanted to have everything under
his control, every piece of land, every piece of business and so on. The town, was one day thriving,
living the great American life, and then the next, businesses were shutting down, land was drying up,
and the drought was more serious than ever. While the mayor and his comrades laughed about getting
all the water to themselves, the villagers lived in hardship. That situation reminds me of Jean Claude
Duvalier, president of Hati from 1971 86. Jean Claude resumed the position of president after his
predecessor and father, passed. The United States put a lot of pressure on Jean Claude to restore the
great land of Hati, from the dictatorial regime of his father. In the beginning, he was successful. He
introduced reforms, replaced cabinet members, and released political prisoners. Though all was not as
it seemed, and his reign did not differ much from his father s. While his people were living in poverty,
he continued to live a luxurious lifestyle with his wife. In fact, his wedding along cost $3 million US

As it turns out, Jean Claude had been in several drug trades as well as selling body parts of dead
Haitians. After his dark secrets were revealed, he fled

The M ïżœïżœ Ori Culture
Most well known civilizations are fairly young in their life spans. The United Kingdom, France, Italy;
all these cultures as they are known today have only existed for approximately 400 years. The Māori,
an indigenous culture of New Zealand, have existed for a millennia. Specialized in nautical exploits,
the Māori thrived off of the island s bountiful seas and developed a unique, rich identity as a people.
Yet rather than being regarded as a national treasure, most of New Zealand s citizens and the rest of
the world treat the aboriginal population as a novelty. Most top search results for Māori Culture are for
attractions, guided tours, and similar spectacles. This culture, which has persisted for nearly a
thousand years, is gradually withering into little more than a side show attraction. Rather than
scholarly journals, articles, and history text, is instead an encroaching investment of the Māori as
capital, and how businesses may benefit from them (Rigby, Mueller, Baker, 2011, 121). This plight of
exoticism is not exclusive to the Maori; aboriginal and indigenous societies all over the world are
forced into a unique cultural adaption in order to survive in Western capitalist climates. Companies
assume a guise of social interest, but there is one and only one social responsibility of business to use
its resources and engage in activities designed to increase its profits so long as it stays within the rules
of the game (Rigby, Mueller, Baker, 2011, 118).

Depleted Uranium Research Paper
Overview
Depleted uranium, referred here as DU, is a by product of the naturally produced element uranium, a
member of the periodic table. Exposure to DU is commonly talked about by almost everyone in the
military spending time out of the wire, however, not limited to only those combat service members.
Uranium History and Beginning Risks
Before going straight in on the subject of DU, it would be appropriate to explain it s parent. Uranium
goes back many centuries. According to Briner (2010), Uranium assisted the Germans in the creation
of certain textiles and paint in the 1500s. Miners were needed to retrieve this element and over time
lung cancer set in the miners due to radioactive dust from uranium (p. 304). Later in time, the United
States took interest in uranium. According to Brugge Goble (2002), it was in 1948 the uranium mining
boom started exposing people to radiation dust leading to lung cancer, similar situation to Germany.
DU and the Idea
DU is the waste product of Uranium and serves many advantages to the military. According to Briner
(2010), The Gulf War in 1990 began the introduction of DU in munitions and armor. DU provided a
massive advantage over enemy armored vehicles and oppositely, DU armor protected US military
vehicles from enemy munitions (p. 304 305). However, the application of DU is ... Show more content

According to (Depleted uranium : Sources, exposure and health effects, 2001), DU was not really a
big until the military started using it in war. DU is known have less than half the radiation of natural
uranium (p. iii). Studies show the inhalation of DU is the most dangerous type of exposure. Intake via
food and water would be the next. It would be intersting to know that DU will not pass through skin
and infect the body (p. iv). While DU has risks, it also acts as a safety curtain. DU acts as a radiation

Analysis Of Hatred By Kristallnacht
We must develop and maintain the capacity to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to forgive is
devoid of the power to love. There is some good in the worst of us and some evil in the best of us.
When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies. By helping one you can make a huge
difference, but you not helping someone that is going through something like bullying, is also making
a huge difference. Your letting the problem go on longer, the only way to be against it is to stand with
others that are going through a similar situation. Hatred is an emotion that begins with prejudice and
ends with bullying, vandalism, racism,or anti semitism. Without hatred in this world, we can have
equality. Hatred is everywhere we go but the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I don t know anyone personally who has been bullied but by all the stories that i have heard i believe
have a good amount of information on how it can hurt that person being victimized. There are many
things that i learned about bullying and what it can do to someone or people around them. The main
thing i learned about bullying is that your not the problem its the bully that is going through something
and takes it out on someone else. Another thing is that by you bullying on someone else you can make
that person hard to go to places where they know you are going be present at, just to avoid you (for
example school). Another reason is that you can cause so much pain to the victim and their family.
Lastly if you take the bullying to extreme levels you can cause that person to take their live and cause
the family and friends pain. If you are caught bullying someone else you can be arrested. These are
things that i learned about bullying. By me learning all of this about bullying it makes me think on
how i would never have the guts to bully someone because you don t know what they are going
through already and you re just adding to it. Knowing you could be the reason that someone takes
their life or know you could be the one to cause a family pain would drive me crazy. I know that no
parent wants to go through something like that because i know my parents or any other parent would

Gladiators Essay
People may see gladiators as a hero maybe even a role model however; their life is not something one
would truly wish for. A life in chains with harsh training, blood and existence were all given for a man
s word. Gladiators fought for freedom, money, and life; few gave all for something, and most gave all
for nothing. The gladiator life was not about going in an arena to become the most notorious named
fighter. The purpose for the gladiator to fight was to receive a chance to see their family. They fought
to support, and to see another sunrise.
Gladiators are seen as fighters or warriors of the colosseums in Rome; however not as slaves or
prisoners. Most gladiators were captured and prisoners of war who were later sold to owners, but are
referred to as managers. These managers would turn prisoners into gladiators who were hungry for
wins to survive. Wins brought life, food, women, and amenities that the gladiator could dream for as a
free person.
Some of the gladiators were free men and women who would sign contracts to managers for a set
amount of fights or wins. These free men and women fought for ransom to help pay off debts or to
support a family. Desperate individuals, ex military, all the way up to ... Show more content on

manager would give him a reward which he deemed fit for that win. The more popular the gladiator
became the more money the manager received. Rewards could include a bigger better meal, rest, and
possible a night of sexual endeavors. This might not sound too bad but the possibilities of winning
were all in the hands of senators and high

The Rise in Youth Homelessness in Canada Essay
Today in Canada, a rise in youth homelessness is being observed across the country. Despite common
assumptions, the issue of street youth is not isolated to Toronto or Montreal, but has become pervasive
across the country. Although accurate statistics are impossible to come by, the disturbing reality is that
both urban centers and rural communities nationwide, are struggling to provide their youth with
adequate, affordable housing. Issues surrounding the supply and affordability of housing, combined
with personal circumstances characterized by instability, are distancing youth s access to housing.
These causes and their overall consequences, must be faced before lasting solutions can be shaped by
society. Housing Canada s street youth will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of these youth have been raised in foster homes and other environments lacking the social, and
often economic stability, necessary for seamless transitions into society and the workforce. Over 15%
of homeless youth reported their families as having suffered from homelessness at some point.
Physical and sexual abuse is often extremely prevalent among street youth. A study conducted in
Toronto indicated that more than 70% of homeless youth had left home due to physical or sexual
abuse. Finally, homeless youth tend to be characterized by their lack of resources and job readiness. In
2003, over 35% of Canadian street youth reported that they had dropped out of high school, or had
been permanently expelled. These social causes only serve to perpetuate homelessness from the
economic side.
According to former NDP leader Jack Layton (Layton 2008: xix), the economic causes of youth
homelessness can be summarized by stating that homelessness is an issue of both supply and
affordability . Looking specifically at Atlantic Canada, affordable housing is a primary concern for
those tacking homelessness. According to Layton, In New Brunswick, where poverty is an issue, few
new subsidized housing units have been built in the last 10 years, and there is no supportive housing.
The poor condition of the existing housing stock contributes to youth

Daniel ben Jacob (c. 1060 c. 1120) was a Jewish philosopher and rabbi that lived in Metz, France for
the majority of his early life. After the Rhineland massacres in 1096, he fled to Germany to seek

Young Goodman Brown Hypocrisy
In the late 1600s, the infamous Salem Witch Trials occurred. The Salem Witch Trials were a series of
hearings and prosecutions of those accused of witchcraft. In Young Goodman Brown, Nathaniel
Hawthorne shows that the Puritans are hypocrites by showing that members of the Puritan community
lie about their beliefs. Young Goodman Brown lives with his wife, Faith, who urges him not to travel
into the forest, but Young Goodman Brown chooses to ignore Faith s advice and continue into the
forest. In the woods, Brown meets with a strange traveler who he later realizes is the devil in disguise
and witnesses him speak to Goody Cloyse as if they are friends. Then, he observes a witch meeting in
which he is shocked to see Goody Cloyse, Faith, and other Puritans attend. The scene suddenly
changes and Brown wakes up in the forest, unsure whether his experience in the forest was a dream or

can no longer trust the members of the Puritan community. Puritans accused other Puritans just as
Brown accused his wife over an event that may have just been a dream and lost his religious faith, as

Milton s Views On Morality
Many of John Milton s works quite often bring into question Milton s stance and beliefs on morality.
However there are two pieces in particular that heavily express Milton s views on morality. Those two
pieces are Areopagetica, and The Masque Presented at Ludlow Castle, otherwise known as Comus.
However these two pieces represent a very specific stance that Milton has on morality. Areopagetica
and Comus both express Milton s belief that in order for society to remain pure and good, they must
be properly exposed to temptation and that which is impure. This is very evident in Areopagetica
when Milton argues that parliament should not restrict literature that they deem as bad or impure,
because it will not allow the people to become aware of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Milton believes that it is necessary to have books and literature that is considered bad or impure. He
feels that exposure to such impure thoughts, beliefs, and temptations are how society learns and
grows. At one point Milton states that but herein the difference is of bad books, that they to a discreet
and judicious reader serve in many respects to discover, to confute, to forewarn, and to illustrate
(Milton). Here Milton is expressing his belief that bad books don t have to always have a negative
effect on those who read them. In fact, these bad readings can be a way for the reader to learn and
become more informed of these bad and impure things, and therefore be able to avoid them. Milton
believes that parliament should not repress these pieces of literature that they deem bad, because in
order for society to become morally healthy and avoid these impure thoughts and temptations, they
must be exposed to them and learn from them. This belief in exposure to impurity and temptation as a
necessity is further expressed by Milton in The Masque Presented at Ludlow Castle, more simply
known as Comus. The story of Comus is the story of a brute, fiendish character known as Comus, who
lures the Lady into the woods and binds her to a chair and tries to convince her to drink his special
elixir. However, the lady is able to resist Comus advances by claiming that But such as are good men

Christianity And Religion In Beowulf And The Canterbury Tales
Throughout the Middle Ages, religion was a major theme in the literature of that time. Works such as
Beowulf and The Canterbury Tales are examples of this theme in action, but in very different ways.
God is seen purely as goodness in Beowulf, and everything that God approves of is good as well.
Contrarily, The Canterbury Tales satirizes religion by showing members of the church in a negative
manner and debating the teachings of the Bible, the latter particularly in The Wife of Bath s Prologue.
Despite these different takes on Christianity, the characters in both stories sin, yet are defended. Both
Beowulf and The Wife of Bath s Prologue contain different defenses of the protagonist s sin, to
varying degrees of success.
Beowulf s sins revolve around personality traits, namely his boastfulness and greed, however the
author does not acknowledge this sin. First and foremost, it must be made clear that these sins truly
exist in Beowulf and are in opposition to Christian morals, regardless of whether or not the author
condemns them. Upon his arrival in Heorot, Beowulf s conversation with Unferth demonstrates how
his pride and boastfulness is integral to his reputation. Unferth asks, Are you the Beowulf who took on
Breca / in a swimming match on the open sea, / risking the water just to prove that you could win? / It
was sheer vanity made you venture out / on the main deep, (Beowulf 506 510). Considering that this is

Analysis Of The Book Taken Hostage By David Farber
The United States history during 1977 to 1989 went through two presidencies and whirlwind of events
happened. When President Jimmy Carter became president he wanted to lower the inflation rates to
make life easier for the people of the United States. While that was his goal it got completely derailed.
Near the end of Jimmy Carters presidency, a group of Iranian students took over the U.S Embassy in
Tehran and took people hostage. Over the course of the 444 days the hostages where held captive
while the people of the United States voted for a new president to help lead them into a new direction.
The people voted for Ronald Reagan. While he was president things didn t go as he planned as well.
The issues with Iran did not calm down and escalated to something bigger. After the Iran hostage
crisis, the US had another issues with Iran and it was the Iran Contra affair. During this essay I will be
talking about the book called Taken Hostage by David Farber and the information in the book. The
book is about the time frame of Jimmy Carter s presidency and the issues with Iran and the hostage
crisis. The second half of my essay is towards President Ronald Reagan s and the issues about the Iran
Contra affair and the lasting issues between Iran and the United states.
The book Taken Hostage by David Farber the book starts off giving some background information
about the state and the economic state that the United States was in before the hostage crisis took
place. In 1970 s

Psychological Trauma In Children
Psychological trauma in children is defined as the mental result of one or more external situations
which causes temporary helplessness beyond a person s ordinary coping skills (Ogawa, 2004). One of
the most disturbing and devastating trauma in society is the abuse and neglect of children. Many
abused children suffer from emotional and behavioural difficulties, which often require psychotherapy
(James Mennen, 2001). Abused children describe trauma pain as overwhelming feelings of anxiety,
sadness, emptiness, loneliness, dirty and cheap. As such trauma pain is extremely unpleasant, and
most abused and deprived children employ defense mechanisms to deny and repress the trauma. The
four most common defense methods used by traumatized children ... Show more content on

Ketamine Essay
Introduction
Chronic intake, the delayed onset of action, drug resistance and numerous side effects force the
researchers to look for the new, safe antidepressant strategies (1, 2) with rapid onset and longer time of
action.
Results obtained in the recent years give some hope that ketamine which is a global NMDAR
antagonist could be the fast and long acting novel antidepressant. Antidepressant like activity of
ketamine was shown in many preclinical studies (1 7). The single non anesthetic dose of ketamine
reversed symptoms of major depression (MDD) in clinical conditions (8). These antidepressant effects
of ketamine also occurred in patients who suffered from resistant depression or suicidal ideations (9
12). Despite a successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the molecular level of explanation these processes are dependent on the interplay between
glutamate receptors, Ca2+ channels, the increase of intracellular Ca2+ levels, Ca2+ dependent
proteins like Akt, ERK, mTOR and neurotrophins such as brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)
(24, 25).
Because Ca2+ is the central point for all mentioned processes, we focused our interests on hyperforin
which is Ca2+ modulator. Hyperforin is the natural and biologically active compound extracted from
Hypericum Perforatum (St John Wort) (26). The St John Wort extract and hyperforin attenuated
symptoms of mild to moderate depression in a few clinical trials. Both extract and hyperforin
displayed antidepressant like activity in preclinical studies (27, 28).
From molecular perspective, hyperforin has multidirectional mechanisms of action. It acts on ligand
gated (GABA, NMDA and AMPA receptors) (29, 30) and voltage gated channels (Ca2+, K+, and
Na+) (29, 31). In contrast to blockade of ion transport through the plasma membrane, hyperforin can
increased an inward Ca2+ current. These processes are dose dependent and probably involved a few
different cellular events. In the details, hyperforin in in vitro studies increased the Ca2+ intracellular
level by activation of the non selective canonical transient receptor potential 6 channels (TRPC6) or
by the releasing Ca2+ from mitochondria (32 34). As has been previously shown hyperforin activates
intracellular

In What Ways Do Family Members Or Friends Try To Persuade
COMMENTARIES ESSAY ROUGH DRAFT
Today I am writing essay over our Unit 4 Rhetorical Analyses class discussion. The topic was, How
do family members or friends try to persuade you? In what ways do your friends or family members
persuasive strategies differ from the ways advertisers try to persuade people? There are numerous
ways to try to persuade someone, but for me, my family, and friends they try to persuade me through
the use of pathos and ethos. Advertisers typically use techniques like scare tactics or promising the
buyer happiness in order to persuade you to buy their product. In this article I will compare the
differences between advertisers and family and friends persuasive strategies.
Family members or friends are usually the people that we share the most important relationships and
or the closest relationships with. In my research I found ten techniques that family members and

and lastly using sex and proactive imagery. (Suggett, Paul) My person experiences with advertisers

The Safety Of A Car Vehicle
Most of the automotive companies believe that the next generation of cars are going to be autonomous
vehicles, but not all of them have the same opinion about it. Some companies want to bring a fully
autonomous car to reality, which wouldn t need any human interaction to drive the car, while other
ones are interested in driverless cars, which need humans to drive them. Both autonomous and
driverless concepts give cars more control over themselves, and both aim to give more comfort for
mankind, thus providing an easier life for drivers and passengers, but the idea of an autonomous car
on the roads raises some questions about the safety of it and the responsibility over a car like this. A
driverless car can have most of the autonomous features, it just needs someone to drive it, and then the
control would also be from a person that would be more watchful and take responsibilities over the
car. Ford is going to launch an autonomous car. The company already has a semi autonomous one in
market, the Fusion hybrid, and they say that the car is automated, but by automated they mean that it
is capable of automated operation under the supervision of a human driver. Ford already have one step
in automated driving, and in five years they are going to bring two new innovative features that are
going to be essential for self driving cars; one is the fully automated parking that allows the vehicle to
park itself with no help from the driver, the driver just have to press a button, then

The Proliferation Of Weapons Of Mass Destruction
To what extent do WMDs and their proliferation present a threat to global security and what are
possible solutions? Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction and Threats to Global Security The
proliferation of weapons of mass destruction is one of the foremost threats challenging global security
today. The United States should take an offensive strategy and re emphasize its nuclear program due to
the current affairs around the globe and the growing threat of the use of weapons of mass destruction
against our citizens, allies and vital interests. The existing arms control agreements, such as the 1968

Movement of illegal imports and the exchange of money can be completed with virtually no
restrictions depending on the place and time due to relaxed import and export laws, lack of
enforcement controls, and electronic system networks. Furthermore, many governments seem to be
unwilling or unable to implement control over the development, storage, or use of these weapons.
More problematic are the shifting ideologies and international relationships that have occurred over
the decades following the cold war. Today there is little doubt terrorist groups or states would use
weapons of mass destruction to further their interests if they were available. The 9/11 Commission
Report documented that Usama bin Laden in an interview with ABC television had called for Muslims
to kill Americans without regard to their status claiming all Americans were targets. He had also
attempted to purchase weapons grade enriched uranium for over $1.5 million dollars in an effort to
make an atomic bomb. Although the material later turned out not to be uranium, it clearly indicated
the terrorist s intent to discharge nuclear weapons without regard to the subsequent fallout of loss of

Obstacles In The Odyssey
In The Odyssey, Odysseus was one of Greek s greatest and most popular heroes. He was faced with
many obstacles throughout the story in which he had to overcome. He was not the strong man , such
as Achilles. He was more of a man of thought, patience, and clever tricks. Three instances in which
Odysseus used his intelligence to overcome the obstacles he faced were when he tricked the Cyclops
into getting drunk, got past the Sirens, and got Circe to turn his men back into humans. To begin with,
Odysseus used his intelligence to convince Circe to turn his men back into humans. Odysseus traveled
to Aeaea with his men, the home of Circe. Circe drugged some of Odysseus men and has locked your

Essay on A Critical Review of Francis Schaeffer
Topic Paragraph Francis Schaeffer summarized his the entire book when he wrote, To understand
where we are in today s world in our intellectual ideas and in our cultural and political lives we must
trace three lines in history, namely, the philosophic, the scientific, and the religious (Schaeffer, 2005,
p.20). Schaeffer is mainly stating that society is getting away from its Christians roots. He walks
through instances in history where society has moved away from the principle teachings of the Bible.
He believes that the problems in society are because individuals are ignoring the Christian principles
that this world was built upon. He warns that this shift can have a catastrophic effect on how the world
will look in the future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is one way that the path towards destruction can be altered. The Christian believers have an
obligation to help society realize its Christian roots and that can be done through their diligence in
spreading the word of God. The other intended audience for Schaeffer s book is the non believers.
Schaeffer hints to the fact that society s decline is a result of these non believers. He points out how
these people have coerced society to distance itself from the teachings of the Bible. By Schaeffer
pointing out the possible end result of their actions, he is hoping that this book serves as a wake up
call. He is urging non believers to change their ways before it is too late. Thesis and Bias The overall
thesis to Schaeffer s book can be found in the first chapter. To understand where we are in today s
world in our intellectual ideas and in our cultural and political lives we must trace three lines in
history, namely, the philosophic, the scientific, and the religious (Schaeffer, 2005, p.20). The bias in
this statement is the idea that the only worthwhile world view is a Christian world view. Schaeffer
insists that in order to remediate any problems in society there should be a re focus on Christian
principles. Schaeffer is trying to make a very specific point very clear in this book. He wants people to
know that society has moved away from the teachings of the Bible. He gives specific examples of how

The Between Cultures And Cultures
The deferments between cultures It is great to be familiar with the cultures of any country because
they are reflecting the nature and culture of people across country. The most amazing thing in the
knowledge of civilizations is that you will see that there is partnership between countries and others in
some of the habits and traditions. Perhaps you may wonder yourself why these people do this thing or
how it had come to this tradition, etc. As an example of functions in Asia to look alike in some habits I
will talking about this point in this article. The Europeans left their similarity in the traditions and all
the nations of the African continent, there s thing had in common you may see in the customs,

change your opinion about this country and the reason is that you have to meet with a member off this
country. When I stared researching this subject and after stay when I finished some personal
interviews with international students from different countries, I fund that there is what is common in
the customs and traditions. Many information has been taken from them and learned

Civil War Advantages
The North vs. The South During The Civil War There were many differences between the North and
the South during the Civil War. Most differences were a result of advantages and disadvantages
between the two sides. The Unions advantages at the time included a higher population count, more
factories, faster food production, faster transportation by railroads, and overall, a better economy.
Although minimal, the Confederacy also held specific advantages. Southern advantages included a
first rate military leader, as well as other experienced military leadership, and highly motivated
soldiers (civilwar.org, n.d.). These were both great advantages to have during the civil war, and even
led to a few defeats over the experienced and prepared Union. The South consisted of eleven total
states which succeeded from the Union in order to preserve their beliefs on slavery, states rights, and
political liberties. After succeeding, they formed the Confederate army and prepared to fight against
the Union. The North, on the other hand, consisted of twenty three states which ultimately fought to
preserve the Union and protest slavery, hopefully leading to an end of slavery altogether. Despite the
strategies each side held, the pre war characteristics determined specifics about how each would fight.
These characteristics also provided potential reasoning as to why the fighting between the North and
South began (civilwar.org, n.d.). As stated above, the North had a greater economy than the

How Does Jason Trust Medea
Trust
Did you know that 100% of people who choose to not trust enchantresses when they are willing to
help are defenestrated and die excruciatingly painful deaths within a week of that senseless decision?
In the Greek Myth Jason and the Golden Fleece , Jason, a brave, honest young man, must obtain the
Golden Fleece to secure the kingdom, which is rightfully his. Now, Jason is so close to gaining the
beautiful pelage, but another obstacle looms like Mount Olympus before him: the current owner of the
Golden Fleece has inevitably refused to just give his most precious position away. However, as Jason
walked dejectedly away from the palace, the king s cunning daughter, Medea, offered her assistance.
But, there is one problem, Medea is an enchantress who bounces between good and evil as often as
humans breathe; she could switch sides in the blink of an eye.
Everyone agrees Medea is powerful, but some say that Jason should trust Medea, while others say
Jason should not trust Medea. Jason should trust Medea for these three reasons: Jason does not desire
to turn Medea against him, Medea is an enchantress, and Jason needs all the help he can get.

William Damon s The Death Of Honesty
William Damon s The Death of Honesty presents a solemn analysis of the decline of modern virtue
due to a dysfunctional tipping point where honesty is no longer viewed as a moral characteristic
worthy of pursuing. Dishonesty is presented as both a virtue and a vice that is shaping our
contemporary society. The Hoover Institution of Stanford University published Mr. Damon s article in
2012 under the Task Force on the Virtues of a Free Society, which would provide a target audience of
students, educators, parents or anyone with an interest in sociology, specifically in the United States. A
rhetorical analysis recognizes the appeals of ethos and pathos as successful tools in creating a
connection with the readers, yet it exposes flaws in the author s appeal of logic. The lack of developed
logic does not support his thesis that sustained civilization is in lethal danger as a result of dishonesty
alone.
The appeal of ethos is based on personal and academic achievement. As a senior fellow and professor
of Stanford University with a background in child development and psychology, Mr. Damon has the
experience to write on the subject of character development of children, as well as the failings of the
academic world. Writing in the online volume of Stanford University s Endangered Virtues further
validates the author s authority to speak on the subject. As a father, Mr. Damon would have a vested
interest in the ability of the school system to influence his children.

The Importance Of Race In The Film Slumdog Millionaire
If you can do nothing else, do whatever is in your power to make the people in your life feel
completely unashamed of who they are (Killermann). As times change and our society continues to
evolve, the importance of human rights and acceptance are constantly emphasized. Through the
movie, Slumdog Millionaire directed by Danny Boyle I learned about discrimination relating to social
class. Additionally, in the song, Small Town Boy by Bronski Beat, I learned about how gay individuals
may be judged by society. Through further analyzing and exploring these texts, I could seek real life
examples of how human rights can be violated. These texts prove that we must move away from the
deep rooted issue of discrimination and learn to accept, love, and celebrate our differences not only as
individuals but as a society.
In Danny Boyle s movie, Slumdog Millionaire , the use of pathos allows readers to understand how
discrimination relating to social class is a real issue. The movie follows the life of a Muslim boy

But also, he explains how the Statue of Freedom, and the bronze statue atop the U.S Capital dome in

how the audience viewed the statue simply as an Indian princess, instead of Davis s own vision of
white superiority that he insisted be represented in the U.S. Capitol dome statue. I found these
observations to be very surprising because art comes along way involved in history. If the detailed
evidence in the art Davis wanted and Crawford created was not focused enough one wouldn t be
aware of the symbolizations art contribute

Doomed King Henry VIII
After I got this far in Doomed Queen Anne, I was just as intrigued and excited as I was when I d first
opened the book. In fact, more excitement and anticipation had built up. That, but also the fact that I
also found Anne s grip on the King s heart extremely fascinating. It was interesting to read as Anne s
intelligence continued to blossom and captivate King Henry VIII; you don t see a king plead on his
knees for a maiden very often. The book s plot, characters, and conflicts absorbed my mind quickly as
they developed intensely and the action rose between Anne and all those around her; for instance
when jealousy provoked competition between Tom Wyatt and King Henry, as they both nonchalantly
competed for Anne s heart. I was impressed all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It seemed extremely cruel. I couldn t feel good about reading it. This part was important in provoking
Anne s vain confidence and what lead up to her downfall. It also showed that even King Henry VIII
has desires that must be satisfied and a breaking point. A passage like this revealed a character s
feelings and true thoughts: both selfish and unselfish. On page 118, it said, Marry me, dearest Anne!
he cried, as though his heart would burst. Promise that you will be my wife! ( Meyer 118). Just
reading Anne s last few thoughts, rejoicing that she d be queen only made me see her as ungrateful
and selfish. I had hoped by then, King Henry would have truly caught Anne s fancy; not just him
faithfully clinging onto her. Anne s description and words about how she felt about anything was an
essential part of the story. Without them, the story would not have flowed the way it did, her opinions
about situations mattered quite a lot in knowing what she plans to do and all her feeling through and
through. The details all enhanced the importance of the theme; the higher one rises, the further they
have to fall, because as Anne described in the story, her experience of how she rose in position and
how she fell all the way back to the bottom and far into

The Lead Up For Current Business Level Strategy
The Lead up to current Business level Strategy Since the inception of the company, General Electric
put great emphasis on innovation. Creating the first Industrial Research Laboratory of its kind in 1900,
the company introduces copious amount of new products to the world ever since. This Lab allowed
the company to generate new products that would facilitate the creation of future profitable ideas. The
dedicated team of scientists and engineers could create new products and improve existing products
such as the light bulb in order to differentiate them from other competitors in the market. This practice
enabled the company to gain a distinctive competency in developing future products, in tern granting

In 1981 with the arrival of the new CEO, Jack Welsh, the new corporate strategy was implemented
with emphasis on performance and efficiency. This move toward efficiency reduced innovation in the
company, moving it away from its differentiation strategies. General Electric diversified itself by
investing and acquiring a slew of companies that it recognized to be profitable. GE operated in more
than eight different industries. The management sough to maintain a limited number of sectors that
had great growth potential and performance. GE s portfolio of business divisions involved Power
Water, Aviation, Healthcare, Oil Gas, Energy Management, Appliances Lighting, Transportation, GE
Capital, and others. The company wide policy was to implement six sigma quality control,
digitization, and globalization. Jack Welsh also aimed to create and nurture the development of talent
and leadership in the company.
Current Business level Strategies With the arrival of New CEO, Jeff Immelt, in 2001 the company
went through a reformation once more. Immelt intended to disband the conglomerate corporate
strategy and instead concentrate on GE s core competencies relating to advanced technologies and
services in order to deliver superior highly customized products to high growth markets (Bucifal,
2009). This new strategy hearkened back to the companies original differentiation strategy, and

The Key Features Of The World Wide Webs Development Essay
Introduction
In this report I will be researching and reporting on the key features of the World Wide Webs
development and analysing the aspects of what made up the World Wide Web. The main subjects will
be the WWW (World Wide Web), HTML5, CSS3/ CSS box model and JavaScript including document
object model. I will be exploring these subjects core principles, purposes, features, techniques and
latest developments to display and further my knowledge of these subjects and reinforce them with
evidence.
Milestones in the history of the WWW
The World Wide Web was created in March 1989 by Tim Berners Lee a British scientist working at
CERN ( The Birth of the Web | CERN ). CERN is an acronym of the French phrase Conseil Européen
pour la Recherche Nucléaire which translate to the European Organization for Nuclear Research. The
World Wide Web was created to share information between scientist and institutes worldwide. The
World Wide Web is a series of computer networks interconnected by Coaxial cable or fibre optic
cables spanning underground and across the oceans. Tim Berners Lee crated his first proposal for the
World Wide Web in march 1989 see page 8 ( World Wide Web Born At CERN 25 Years Ago | CERN )

The World Wide Web uses 3 protocols HTML (hypertext markup language), HTTP (hypertext transfer
protocol) and URLS (uniform resource locator). HTML is the coding language of the World Wide

Guardian Figure Essay
Guardian Figure
Upon first sight of this sculpture, one is introduced to its overwhelming expression and brilliant size.
This untitled statue stands approximately life size at a mere six to six and a half feet tall and is about
two or three feet wide. He is standing upright on a gray rectangular structure approximately three feet
off the grounding making him about nine and half feet total. This is a monstrous sculpture when
looked upon firsthand. It seemingly is a man, possibly a warrior of some kind.
This statue is made from two different types of wood. The first of which is chestnut, which seems to
encompass the lower portion of his body and in his clothing. Its color is a faded type of tan flesh tone.
The second type of wood is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The creator of this sculpture chose a very interesting subject matter. It appears to be a man, possibly a
warrior. He is larger in size, and is defined well physically. His facial features are extremely stylized
and lack detail. His bulky and overwhelming size makes it hard for one to look at. His shirtless upper
body is shown in great detail in a type of circular fashion. It is anything but naturalistic. It is highly
exaggerated in a way that makes him appear bigger than he actually may be. His lower body is
covered from his hips to his knees with clothing, which bares resemblance to a kilt of dress. He has
something on his head, which resembles a ponytail but could also pass from some type of headdress.
He is also wearing enormous sandals from which his immense feet protrude.
The texture of the surface of this sculpture is extremely rough, obviously due to the material from
which it was made from. This roughness is somewhat appropriate in that it displays this characters
intense anger. The garb of this statue is smoother than that of the flesh, and hangs down to the back of
his feet. It flows in a natural way, creating a sense of depth and dimensionality that the rest of the
statue lacks. The wavy, curvy lines found throughout his attire makes the eye move around the lower
portion of the body, and brings the eye upward toward the chest and stomach region. It seems to
define the legs in a

  • 2. Erucius Argumentative Essay I was asked to be in the First Triumvirate this morning. So many thoughts are rushing through my head now. Why would Ceaser want me in the First Triumvirate if I wanted him dead? Why would they make something so unconstitutional? Why would Pompey join such a horrific group? Now, you are probably wondering how did I get here and how did this all start, well this is where it begins... I believe it all began when I was in my first legal case. I successfully argued my first legal case defending a man charged with I parricide. When the trial began Erucius gave a long speech about the case, although I would say it was slightly biased my charisma will easily persuade the crowd into thinking that Roscius is innocent...(https://archive.org/stream/jstor 4387008/4387008_djvu.txt) ... • 3. How The Rising Swedish Democratic Party Is An Acceptable... It is quite common knowledge in North America that the true bastions of liberal, social democracy lie in the north; Scandinavia has in recent years become what neoliberals deem as an acceptable balance between socialism and western democracy. This is supplemented that, according to Forbes and several other periodicals, Scandinavian countries such as Denmark and Norway tend to rank highest in terms of overall happiness. However these seeming utopias of democracy have stark differences between themselves and North Americans; their populations are substantially lower, tax rates are far higher, and the results of unending migration from the Levant and beyond have resulted in an exponential increase in crime. This has led to a rise in support for right wing parties among a more traditionally socialist region. As seen in articles by Dalstrom and Esaiasson as well as Hinnfors, Spehar and Bucken Knapp, this is not a new phenomenon in Sweden; immigration has been a matter of concern for quite some time in Europe. This paper will seek to establish how the rising Swedish Democratic Party has aggregated decades of social desire within Sweden as well as a correlation between influxes in refugees, international and national crises, and rise in anti immigrant sentiment. Socialist democracies in Scandinavia were brought about in correlation with the Nordic model of governance, also known as Nordic capitalism or Nordic social democracy. Or at least, that s they want the watchers to think. The truth is that there are many different themes that tie into the world s past. Rango (the talking lizard) can represent some of the world s most influential leaders; the mayor, who is a talking turtle, corresponds to the corrupted government of countries. In a way, many of the themes in this movie relate to one another. Human identity, religion, government, hero worship, and human adaptation, is only the beginning of what this film uncovers about the world, and the human species itself. The once great leader became corrupted by the notion of power and influence he had over the towns people by controlling what they needed the most; water. The mayor wanted to have everything under his control, every piece of land, every piece of business and so on. The town, was one day thriving, living the great American life, and then the next, businesses were shutting down, land was drying up, and the drought was more serious than ever. While the mayor and his comrades laughed about getting all the water to themselves, the villagers lived in hardship. That situation reminds me of Jean Claude Duvalier, president of Hati from 1971 86. Jean Claude resumed the position of president after his predecessor and father, passed. The United States put a lot of pressure on Jean Claude to restore the great land of Hati, from the dictatorial regime of his father. In the beginning, he was successful. He introduced reforms, replaced cabinet members, and released political prisoners. Though all was not as it seemed, and his reign did not differ much from his father s. While his people were living in poverty, he continued to live a luxurious lifestyle with his wife. In fact, his wedding along cost $3 million US dollars. • 5. The M ïżœïżœ Ori Culture Most well known civilizations are fairly young in their life spans. The United Kingdom, France, Italy; all these cultures as they are known today have only existed for approximately 400 years. The Māori, an indigenous culture of New Zealand, have existed for a millennia. Specialized in nautical exploits, the Māori thrived off of the island s bountiful seas and developed a unique, rich identity as a people. Yet rather than being regarded as a national treasure, most of New Zealand s citizens and the rest of the world treat the aboriginal population as a novelty. Most top search results for Māori Culture are for attractions, guided tours, and similar spectacles. This culture, which has persisted for nearly a thousand years, is gradually withering into little more than a side show attraction. Rather than scholarly journals, articles, and history text, is instead an encroaching investment of the Māori as capital, and how businesses may benefit from them (Rigby, Mueller, Baker, 2011, 121). This plight of exoticism is not exclusive to the Maori; aboriginal and indigenous societies all over the world are forced into a unique cultural adaption in order to survive in Western capitalist climates. Companies assume a guise of social interest, but there is one and only one social responsibility of business to use its resources and engage in activities designed to increase its profits so long as it stays within the rules of the game (Rigby, Mueller, Baker, 2011, 118). ... Exposure to DU is commonly talked about by almost everyone in the military spending time out of the wire, however, not limited to only those combat service members. Uranium History and Beginning Risks Before going straight in on the subject of DU, it would be appropriate to explain it s parent. Uranium goes back many centuries. According to Briner (2010), Uranium assisted the Germans in the creation of certain textiles and paint in the 1500s. Miners were needed to retrieve this element and over time lung cancer set in the miners due to radioactive dust from uranium (p. 304). Later in time, the United States took interest in uranium. According to Brugge Goble (2002), it was in 1948 the uranium mining boom started exposing people to radiation dust leading to lung cancer, similar situation to Germany. DU and the Idea DU is the waste product of Uranium and serves many advantages to the military. According to Briner (2010), The Gulf War in 1990 began the introduction of DU in munitions and armor. A life in chains with harsh training, blood and existence were all given for a man s word. Gladiators fought for freedom, money, and life; few gave all for something, and most gave all for nothing. The gladiator life was not about going in an arena to become the most notorious named fighter. The purpose for the gladiator to fight was to receive a chance to see their family. They fought to support, and to see another sunrise. Gladiators are seen as fighters or warriors of the colosseums in Rome; however not as slaves or prisoners. Most gladiators were captured and prisoners of war who were later sold to owners, but are referred to as managers. These managers would turn prisoners into gladiators who were hungry for wins to survive. Wins brought life, food, women, and amenities that the gladiator could dream for as a free person. However there are two pieces in particular that heavily express Milton s views on morality. Those two pieces are Areopagetica, and The Masque Presented at Ludlow Castle, otherwise known as Comus. However these two pieces represent a very specific stance that Milton has on morality. Areopagetica and Comus both express Milton s belief that in order for society to remain pure and good, they must be properly exposed to temptation and that which is impure. At one point Milton states that but herein the difference is of bad books, that they to a discreet and judicious reader serve in many respects to discover, to confute, to forewarn, and to illustrate (Milton). Here Milton is expressing his belief that bad books don t have to always have a negative effect on those who read them. In fact, these bad readings can be a way for the reader to learn and become more informed of these bad and impure things, and therefore be able to avoid them. Milton believes that parliament should not repress these pieces of literature that they deem bad, because in order for society to become morally healthy and avoid these impure thoughts and temptations, they must be exposed to them and learn from them. This belief in exposure to impurity and temptation as a necessity is further expressed by Milton in The Masque Presented at Ludlow Castle, more simply known as Comus. The story of Comus is the story of a brute, fiendish character known as Comus, who lures the Lady into the woods and binds her to a chair and tries to convince her to drink his special elixir. • 18. Christianity And Religion In Beowulf And The Canterbury Tales Throughout the Middle Ages, religion was a major theme in the literature of that time. Works such as Beowulf and The Canterbury Tales are examples of this theme in action, but in very different ways. God is seen purely as goodness in Beowulf, and everything that God approves of is good as well. Contrarily, The Canterbury Tales satirizes religion by showing members of the church in a negative manner and debating the teachings of the Bible, the latter particularly in The Wife of Bath s Prologue. Despite these different takes on Christianity, the characters in both stories sin, yet are defended. Both Beowulf and The Wife of Bath s Prologue contain different defenses of the protagonist s sin, to varying degrees of success. Beowulf s sins revolve around personality traits, namely his boastfulness and greed, however the author does not acknowledge this sin. First and foremost, it must be made clear that these sins truly exist in Beowulf and are in opposition to Christian morals, regardless of whether or not the author condemns them. Upon his arrival in Heorot, Beowulf s conversation with Unferth demonstrates how his pride and boastfulness is integral to his reputation. • 21. Analysis Of The Book Taken Hostage By David Farber The United States history during 1977 to 1989 went through two presidencies and whirlwind of events happened. When President Jimmy Carter became president he wanted to lower the inflation rates to make life easier for the people of the United States. While that was his goal it got completely derailed. Near the end of Jimmy Carters presidency, a group of Iranian students took over the U.S Embassy in Tehran and took people hostage. Over the course of the 444 days the hostages where held captive while the people of the United States voted for a new president to help lead them into a new direction. The people voted for Ronald Reagan. While he was president things didn t go as he planned as well. The issues with Iran did not calm down and escalated to something bigger. After the Iran hostage crisis, the US had another issues with Iran and it was the Iran Contra affair. During this essay I will be talking about the book called Taken Hostage by David Farber and the information in the book. The book is about the time frame of Jimmy Carter s presidency and the issues with Iran and the hostage crisis. The second half of my essay is towards President Ronald Reagan s and the issues about the Iran Contra affair and the lasting issues between Iran and the United states. Psychological Trauma In Children Psychological trauma in children is defined as the mental result of one or more external situations which causes temporary helplessness beyond a person s ordinary coping skills (Ogawa, 2004). One of the most disturbing and devastating trauma in society is the abuse and neglect of children. Many abused children suffer from emotional and behavioural difficulties, which often require psychotherapy (James Mennen, 2001). Abused children describe trauma pain as overwhelming feelings of anxiety, sadness, emptiness, loneliness, dirty and cheap. As such trauma pain is extremely unpleasant, and most abused and deprived children employ defense mechanisms to deny and repress the trauma. Ketamine Essay Introduction Chronic intake, the delayed onset of action, drug resistance and numerous side effects force the researchers to look for the new, safe antidepressant strategies (1, 2) with rapid onset and longer time of action. Results obtained in the recent years give some hope that ketamine which is a global NMDAR antagonist could be the fast and long acting novel antidepressant. Antidepressant like activity of ketamine was shown in many preclinical studies (1 7). The single non anesthetic dose of ketamine reversed symptoms of major depression (MDD) in clinical conditions (8). These antidepressant effects of ketamine also occurred in patients who suffered from resistant depression or suicidal ideations (9 12). Despite a successful ... At the molecular level of explanation these processes are dependent on the interplay between glutamate receptors, Ca2+ channels, the increase of intracellular Ca2+ levels, Ca2+ dependent proteins like Akt, ERK, mTOR and neurotrophins such as brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) (24, 25). Because Ca2+ is the central point for all mentioned processes, we focused our interests on hyperforin which is Ca2+ modulator. Hyperforin is the natural and biologically active compound extracted from Hypericum Perforatum (St John Wort) (26). The St John Wort extract and hyperforin attenuated symptoms of mild to moderate depression in a few clinical trials. Both extract and hyperforin displayed antidepressant like activity in preclinical studies (27, 28). From molecular perspective, hyperforin has multidirectional mechanisms of action. It acts on ligand gated (GABA, NMDA and AMPA receptors) (29, 30) and voltage gated channels (Ca2+, K+, and Na+) (29, 31). In contrast to blockade of ion transport through the plasma membrane, hyperforin can increased an inward Ca2+ current. These processes are dose dependent and probably involved a few different cellular events. In the details, hyperforin in in vitro studies increased the Ca2+ intracellular level by activation of the non selective canonical transient receptor potential 6 channels (TRPC6) or by the releasing Ca2+ from mitochondria (32 34). There are numerous ways to try to persuade someone, but for me, my family, and friends they try to persuade me through the use of pathos and ethos. • 25. The Safety Of A Car Vehicle Most of the automotive companies believe that the next generation of cars are going to be autonomous vehicles, but not all of them have the same opinion about it. Some companies want to bring a fully autonomous car to reality, which wouldn t need any human interaction to drive the car, while other ones are interested in driverless cars, which need humans to drive them. Both autonomous and driverless concepts give cars more control over themselves, and both aim to give more comfort for mankind, thus providing an easier life for drivers and passengers, but the idea of an autonomous car on the roads raises some questions about the safety of it and the responsibility over a car like this. A driverless car can have most of the autonomous features, it just needs someone to drive it, and then the control would also be from a person that would be more watchful and take responsibilities over the car. Ford is going to launch an autonomous car. The company already has a semi autonomous one in market, the Fusion hybrid, and they say that the car is automated, but by automated they mean that it is capable of automated operation under the supervision of a human driver. Schaeffer is mainly stating that society is getting away from its Christians roots. He walks through instances in history where society has moved away from the principle teachings of the Bible. He believes that the problems in society are because individuals are ignoring the Christian principles that this world was built upon. He warns that this shift can have a catastrophic effect on how the world will look in the future. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The other intended audience for Schaeffer s book is the non believers. Schaeffer hints to the fact that society s decline is a result of these non believers. He points out how these people have coerced society to distance itself from the teachings of the Bible. By Schaeffer pointing out the possible end result of their actions, he is hoping that this book serves as a wake up call. He is urging non believers to change their ways before it is too late. Thesis and Bias The overall thesis to Schaeffer s book can be found in the first chapter. To understand where we are in today s world in our intellectual ideas and in our cultural and political lives we must trace three lines in history, namely, the philosophic, the scientific, and the religious (Schaeffer, 2005, p.20). Schaeffer insists that in order to remediate any problems in society there should be a re focus on Christian principles. Schaeffer is trying to make a very specific point very clear in this book. • 33. Civil War Advantages The North vs. The South During The Civil War There were many differences between the North and the South during the Civil War. Most differences were a result of advantages and disadvantages between the two sides. The Unions advantages at the time included a higher population count, more factories, faster food production, faster transportation by railroads, and overall, a better economy. Although minimal, the Confederacy also held specific advantages. Southern advantages included a first rate military leader, as well as other experienced military leadership, and highly motivated soldiers (civilwar.org, n.d.). These were both great advantages to have during the civil war, and even led to a few defeats over the experienced and prepared Union. The South consisted of eleven total states which succeeded from the Union in order to preserve their beliefs on slavery, states rights, and political liberties. After succeeding, they formed the Confederate army and prepared to fight against the Union. The North, on the other hand, consisted of twenty three states which ultimately fought to preserve the Union and protest slavery, hopefully leading to an end of slavery altogether. Despite the strategies each side held, the pre war characteristics determined specifics about how each would fight. These characteristics also provided potential reasoning as to why the fighting between the North and South began (civilwar.org, n.d.). As stated above, the North had a greater economy than the ... William Damon s The Death Of Honesty William Damon s The Death of Honesty presents a solemn analysis of the decline of modern virtue due to a dysfunctional tipping point where honesty is no longer viewed as a moral characteristic worthy of pursuing. The Hoover Institution of Stanford University published Mr. Damon s article in 2012 under the Task Force on the Virtues of a Free Society, which would provide a target audience of students, educators, parents or anyone with an interest in sociology, specifically in the United States. A rhetorical analysis recognizes the appeals of ethos and pathos as successful tools in creating a connection with the readers, yet it exposes flaws in the author s appeal of logic. The lack of developed logic does not support his thesis that sustained civilization is in lethal danger as a result of dishonesty alone. The appeal of ethos is based on personal and academic achievement. • 42. Doomed King Henry VIII After I got this far in Doomed Queen Anne, I was just as intrigued and excited as I was when I d first opened the book. In fact, more excitement and anticipation had built up. That, but also the fact that I also found Anne s grip on the King s heart extremely fascinating. It was interesting to read as Anne s intelligence continued to blossom and captivate King Henry VIII; you don t see a king plead on his knees for a maiden very often. The book s plot, characters, and conflicts absorbed my mind quickly as they developed intensely and the action rose between Anne and all those around her; for instance when jealousy provoked competition between Tom Wyatt and King Henry, as they both nonchalantly competed for Anne s heart. I was impressed all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It seemed extremely cruel. I couldn t feel good about reading it. This part was important in provoking Anne s vain confidence and what lead up to her downfall. It also showed that even King Henry VIII has desires that must be satisfied and a breaking point. A passage like this revealed a character s feelings and true thoughts: both selfish and unselfish. On page 118, it said, Marry me, dearest Anne! he cried, as though his heart would burst. Promise that you will be my wife! ( Meyer 118). Just reading Anne s last few thoughts, rejoicing that she d be queen only made me see her as ungrateful and selfish. I had hoped by then, King Henry would have truly caught Anne s fancy; not just him faithfully clinging onto her. Anne s description and words about how she felt about anything was an essential part of the story. Without them, the story would not have flowed the way it did, her opinions about situations mattered quite a lot in knowing what she plans to do and all her feeling through and through. The details all enhanced the importance of the theme; the higher one rises, the further they have to fall, because as Anne described in the story, her experience of how she rose in position and how she fell all the way back to the bottom and far into ... • 45. Guardian Figure Essay Guardian Figure Upon first sight of this sculpture, one is introduced to its overwhelming expression and brilliant size. This untitled statue stands approximately life size at a mere six to six and a half feet tall and is about two or three feet wide. He is standing upright on a gray rectangular structure approximately three feet off the grounding making him about nine and half feet total. This is a monstrous sculpture when looked upon firsthand. It seemingly is a man, possibly a warrior of some kind. This statue is made from two different types of wood. The first of which is chestnut, which seems to encompass the lower portion of his body and in his clothing. Its color is a faded type of tan flesh tone. The second type of wood is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The creator of this sculpture chose a very interesting subject matter. It appears to be a man, possibly a warrior. He is larger in size, and is defined well physically. His facial features are extremely stylized and lack detail. His bulky and overwhelming size makes it hard for one to look at. His shirtless upper body is shown in great detail in a type of circular fashion. It is anything but naturalistic. It is highly exaggerated in a way that makes him appear bigger than he actually may be. His lower body is covered from his hips to his knees with clothing, which bares resemblance to a kilt of dress. He has something on his head, which resembles a ponytail but could also pass from some type of headdress. He is also wearing enormous sandals from which his immense feet protrude. The texture of the surface of this sculpture is extremely rough, obviously due to the material from which it was made from. This roughness is somewhat appropriate in that it displays this characters intense anger. The garb of this statue is smoother than that of the flesh, and hangs down to the back of his feet. It flows in a natural way, creating a sense of depth and dimensionality that the rest of the statue lacks. The wavy, curvy lines found throughout his attire makes the eye move around the lower portion of the body, and brings the eye upward toward the chest and stomach region. It seems to define the legs in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
