What Is The Rhyme Scheme Of Sonnet 18
The overall form is that it is a sonnet. It is not just a sonnet because it is titled Sonnet 18 but it is a
sonnet or a little song because it has fourteen lines within this poem. It however, is not just a sonnet
but a Shakespearean sonnet. This poem is a Shakespearean sonnet because the rhyme scheme is in
ABAB CDCD EFEF GG form. For example, Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? / Thou art more
lovely and more temperate. / Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, / And summer s lease
hath all too short a date; / (Lines 1 4). The word day and May rhyme with one another making line 1
and line 3 labeled A. Also, temperate and date both rhyme with one another as well making line 2 and
line 4 labeled B and it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He loves this person and talks about how in nature s beauty it can fade but come back while this
person is beautiful and when Shakespeare writes about his or her beauty it will never fade because
poetry never dies. He not only uses the denotation of words but also the connotation of words such as
lovely and temperate . Such as, Thou art more lovely and more temperate. / (line 2). He uses words
like these to truly express his affection with her because these in their dictionary meaning are
extremely beautiful and the meanings of these words go beyond just their dictionary meaning such as
the word temperate which holds a deep affectionate meaning. He begins this poem with the rhetorical
question that sets the conceit that will be the main metaphor throughout this entire poem, a summer s
day. Also he uses metaphors else where. One example is, Sometimes too hot the eye of heaven shines,
/ (line 5). The eye of heaven as used in line 5 is referring to the sun and sometimes during the summer
it truly is too hot because the sun is just shining too bright. He also uses personification in this poem.
For example, Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, / (line 3). The words shake and darling
are more commonly used with humans rather than nature, even though winds can have the power to
shake things and buds can be called darling it is not as common as calling a person darling or saying a
person can shake something. These metaphors and personifications are great help with concrete
poetry, to help painting an image in the mind of the

Analysis Of Lala Land And Lala Land
Dreams. Everyone has Dreams. Something for someone to think about when they re in times of
trouble. The Academy Award winning film, Lala Land takes the aspect of dreams to a completely
different level. Whenever Damien Chazelle released the first trailer for the movie over a year ago, I
was automatically in love with the masterpiece that was about to bless all my five senses. Just within
the minute and a half teaser I saw over a year ago, I was mesmerized by the phenomenal
cinematography and score. The amazing film, Lala Land is the best movie ever made because of the:
amazing directing, phenomenal score, and the immediate chemistry from the two main characters.

The music in those final twenty minutes are so powerful, that I remember bawling my eyes out and
clapping in the middle of the theatre. To this day, I still have Mia and Sebastian s Theme on my phone.
On screen chemistry is incredibly important aspect to making a movie that includes two or more
people; and this movie absolutely nailed it. With a movie about a failing actress and jazz pianist that
fall in love in Las Angeles, the actors have to be both good and convincing. Emma Stone and Ryan
Gosling do an amazing job playing a couple who fall in love in a difficult part of their lives. They re
acting was so good; they both got nominated for an Academy Award; but sadly, only Emma Stone got
the award. Emma Stone deserved that award; and she gave a performance that will live on for
generations.
What really saddens me is how blind people can be to how beautiful a musical can be. From the many
reviews I ve read, many of them are written by people who just hate musicals in general. However,
there are also people who are unbiased about the genre of the movie; and actually, think that Ryan
Gosling s acting is bland and Emma Stone s singing and dancing is hard to watch. Although; I believe
that Lala Land is a masterpiece that should be praised for decades upon decades. I ve heard opinions
from my friends that I may have forced to watch the movie; and every single person has said nothing
but positive things about the film. They all say that the

The Rise Of The Peshmerga
Peshmerga means those who are prepared to confront or face death. This military force began around
the 1920 s and have experienced a lot of tension between political groups. The Peshmerga is currently
fighting ISIS which is the biggest terrorist organization in the world. They are not only the leading
protectors of the Kurdistan Region, but also the entire world.
Initially, the Peshmerga was developed by freedom fighters that were members of the KDP and PUK,
who used guerrilla warfare tactics to regain control of and protect Kurdistan. After the collapse of the
Ottoman and Qajar empires, freedom fighters created the Peshmerga to regain control over Kurdistan.
When the Peshmerga first started, guerrilla warfare was used to fight enemies and defend the
Kurdistan Region. The Peshmerga had become an effective and powerful guerrilla fighting force at the
time of the Iran and Iraq war in the 1980 s ( Who are the Peshmerga?, 2014). The KDP and PUK were
the governmental powers which influenced the Peshmerga and its formation. The head of the Kurdish

The members of the Peshmerga battled to keep the region under the authority of their leading
governmental party. The KDP consisted of a conservative political philosophy that follows tradition.
While the PUK consisted of a socialist political philosophy that is more inclined to the left. The
philosophical differences between the two groups in power of the region and Peshmerga caused a civil
war to break out in the 1990 s. This war caused Kurds to choose sides and hatred increased. The
Peshmerga was used to fight against one another in support of their leading power. The civil war came
to a halt when the leader of the Kurdish Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani, signed an agreement for
peace with Jalal Talabani, the head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan ( Kurdish Peshmerga,

Coyne Evolution
In the first chapter, Coyne discusses the basic concept outline of evolution, and brings clarity to the
common misconceptions thought and said about how the science works, and the large misuse of the
word theory. The first chapter of this book also defines very carefully each of the main hypothesis of
evolutionary theory. Which stands in dissimilarity to many other treatments of evolution, which all
have a propensity to confuse some readers by integrating different meanings of the word. Coyne also
divides Darwinism into six components. They are: evolution which means change over time,
gradualism which is a policy of slower change rather than sudden change or a revolution, speciation
which is the evolutionary process where a new biological species ... Show more content on

evidence that evolution occurred, much like Darwin did many years ago. Just like that, Coyne s book
is a brilliantly stable approach that is moderately persuasive without being argumentative, and does

Stress Management
TOPIC AT A GLANCE
Topic Name: Managing Stress at Work
Managing an over worked and stressed human resource have become a challenging and ever difficult
task for today s managers. With a view to utilize the available human resource thus minimizing costs
and maximizing profits, today both managers and their subordinates have to coop with work related
stress. This stress if it goes to certain extent without being controlled can affect the person s
family/social life, health, performance etc and changes the employee s whole attitude towards work
frustrating, demotivating and frightening him/her which in the long run damages the organization and
the employee both.

b) Obsolescence of skill
c) Mid career stage
Consequences of Stress
1. On the Individual:
a. Physical Aliments e.g. headache, insomnia and heart problems
b. Mental e.g. anxiety, lack of clear thinking, loneliness
c. Behavioral e.g. excessive smoking, drinking, withdrawal from relationships
2. On the Organization:
Low productivity, poor quality, absenteeism, low job satisfaction, accident proneness and poor
interpersonal communication.
Indian Methods of managing Stress
Indian philosophy consisting of Upanishadas, Vedanta, etc, is very helpful in winning stress. Dr. Satish
Chandra Pandey (8m Journal, JIMS April June 1997) has given some valid points on managing stress,
some of which are as follows
1. Develop training programs for executives and other staff members for their total personality
development based on Indian values, so that they can develop their own strategies for coping with
their organizational environment/stressors.
2. Each organization must develop its own management philosophy based on Indian values and
educate its employees about that philosophy to motivate them for achieving excellence in different
areas.
3. Organizations must know that reducing organizational stress is as important as motivating
employees. Both the process is complementary to each other: they are not replacements.

Mcteague Character Analysis
Reverting Back to a Greedy Animal In the novel McTeague by Frank Norris, the author touches on
various themes throughout the novel. Many of the characters exhibit animalistic qualities, greediness,
and/or both. Characters are often compared to as animals, while others let their greed overcome them.
Some characters McTeague and Trina also return to a previous place and/or state of being. Of all the
themes noted in McTeague, the animal like qualities, the greed, and the reversion of the characters are
major reoccurring themes that can be found in the selected passage on page 323 of the novel. One of
the main significance of the passage on page 323 is the mention of animalist characters. For example,
the main character, McTeague, is depicted as having a strange sixth senses, that obscure brute instinct
that was warning him of something that was about to happen (Norris 323). A sixth sense is an inborn
instinct that most animals have. It acts a warning that something is about to happen or someone will
appear. It is this instinct that causes McTeague believe someone or something is coming for him and
to flee from the mine. Also, McTeague is often described as a brute, which is another term for a
savage animal. The reference to a brute is seen various times throughout the novel and describes the
innate nature of McTeague. Frank Norris depicts McTeague as a draft horse, immensely strong, stupid,
docile, obedient (3). Draft horses were often used for labor work similar to

Canter Fair Description
We are peasants in medieval times that work hard every day and try to make a living and this is our
story. In a small home outside of Canterbury lived four men and their families named Arthur, Drake,
Griffo, and Hrodebert. All four of them were experienced armorers but they needed money because
they can t afford a simple meal. Our houses were made out of wood, straw, and mud. At the first crack
of dawn, we entered the kitchen for breakfast. We can t drink water anymore due to a recent discovery
of dirty water in rivers. Lately, we have been drinking ale or cider. Our typical meals are dark bread,
pottage, and soup. The pottage was flavored with vegetables, beans, peas, bacon, salted pork. In the
winter we had a few vegetables that we would eat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then Arthur came up with a great plan. He said we should all make new sets of armor, better sets of
armor, way cooler sets of armor. We can make a bad set of armor and place it in the middle, wait for
the two men to return, follow them, attack their base, and finally get the armor back! The 3 of them
thought it was a great plan and so they all went back to the contest to start crafting armors. As soon as
they were done, they went to put the bad set of armor in the middle. All of the sudden, a scream was
heard from a distance. It was the city of Canterbury! All of the fruits and foods have been stolen. The
four boys went to see what had happened and who stole the food. It was the two men. They were
masked men, thieves. The four men quickly put on their armor and rushed to find the men. It turns out,
the men were none other than Gavin and Robin! Gavin and Robin were there with a huge army
standing behind them. The four boys slowly backed away. The four boys the looked behind them to
see all of the armorers that participated in the contest in armor suits. Break a leg, Griffo! Hrodebert
said sarcastically. Ha Ha, thats so funny! Griffo exaggerated. Both of the armies started to attack. A
war had begun. There was constant fighting when in the end, the four boys and the brave fighters of

ELUDICATION John Grisham s characters Michael Brock and Mordecia Green worked not only as
attorneys for the homeless but also as social workers too. Throughout The Street Lawyer Michael and
Mordecia counseled each individual to gain a knowledge of what their lives were before they became
homeless and why they have become homeless. Most lawyers would not take the time find out if
whether or not their client had a place to sleep or food to eat the night before. Many lawyers would not
offer their services free of charge. Michael and Mordecia worked as lawyers as well as social workers.
Each day Michael and Mordecia traveled to a local homeless shelter to interview potential clients and
help them with whatever they needed. Most of their clients were generally homeless people or
individuals who were laid off from their job recently. The two helped these individuals fill out
government forms, obtain job applications, and sometimes a rehab center for those who were addicted
to drugs and alcohol. At times some clients could not be helped but Michael and Mordecia provided
their counseling service as a means of help. Some individuals only needed some to talk to about what
was going on in their life at that time. He wants his readers to see the similarities between social
workers and attorneys. His examples with Michael and Mordecia with their clients express key
elements in the career of a social worker. EVALUATION/CONCLUSION The Street Lawyer by John

Director s Duty of Care
Major Assignment: Directors Duties Case
Part A: Whether the directors are in breach of their duties of care, skill and diligence
Issue1: who owes the duty?
According to S 9, the person who is appointed to be a director or the person who is appointed to be an
alternate director and is acting in that capacity, is a director of the company. (S9)
As we can see from the case, Peter Pansy, Fred Fuchsia and Marie Gold are directors of the company,
and Alison Astor who is appointed to fill a casual vacancy on the Board is also a director; therefore,
they all owe duties. As the executive directors appointed a skilled person to manage the Australian

(ASIC v Rich (No 2) (2003) 21 ACLC 672)
Alison Astor was appointed to fill a casual vacancy on the Board, but he did not attend board
meetings. As one of the minimum standards of care, skill, diligence proposed by the NSW court of
Appeal stated, the directors need to contribute a certain time and effort to the company and attend
board meetings regularly. As we can see from this case, Alison Astor did not exercise the required
degree of diligence by failing to attend board meetings, so he had breached his duty of care.
Part 2: Whether the directors are in breach of their duty to avoid insolvent trading.
ISSUE #1 Who owns the duties?
Directors including de facto directors and shadow directors are the only persons who have the duty to
prevent insolvent trading. (textbook219) According to Section 588G, the director of the company that
incurs a debt and is insolvent or becomes insolvent by the debt should have reasonable grounds for
suspecting that the company is insolvent or becomes insolvent.( 588G)
As mentioned in the Part A, all of the directors mentioned above own the duties.
ISSUE #2 To whom
In this case, the directors are owed duties to the company as a whole and also creditors.
ISSUE #3 What are the duties? * When does a company incur a debt? Beside the deemed debts, there
are other types of debt that are related to S588G. (text) A specific amount and incurring voluntarily by

The Cause And Effects Of The Mini Ice Age
The mini ice age, or Little Ice Age (LIA), was a period of time characterized by a decrease in
temperatures worldwide. Although there are no definite times for the start and end of the Little Ice
Age, it is generally accepted that it occurred from approximately 1300 CE to 1850 CE. The coldest
stage of this time lasted from around 1645 to 1715. Also, the expansion of mountain glaciers in several
locations was a distinctive feature of the Little Ice Age. The event had various effects and its origins
are disputable. Several causes of the Little Ice Age have been proposed. One of them describes a
decrease in sunspot activity, or times when dark spots form on the sun due to low temperatures. The
lack of sunspots during the LIA is known as the Maunder Minimum. Since it appeared to occur
concurrently with the coldest part of the ice age, from 1645 to 1715, it was considered a plausible
reason to explain the Little Ice Age. However, this theory has its flaws, because modeled simulations
point to the idea that temperatures would ve dropped to a maximum of 0.4ºC, when the world saw
actual decreases of 1 2ºC. Furthermore, the Little Ice Age started before the Maunder Minimum
happened, so additional information is needed to explain the original cause of the LIA.
Another idea for the catalyst of the Little Ice Age involves the North Atlantic Oscillation
(NAO), a circulation of atmospheric pressure in North America and northern Europe. Typical, or
positive NAO is shown when a

While Koreans have always maintained a very aggressive pricing strategy, Hyundai KIA has put itself
at a prime place in the global market by offering competitive prices compared to the competition. It is
obvious from the global automotive sales data that South Korea s Hyundai KIAAutomotive Group

that they have thought a lot about pricing competitiveness (Freeman 2008). With the company

falling economy in Korea, the KIA Group still wanted to expand the scale and scope of business.
Hence, KIA is international with their facilities in one hundred and seventy two countries. This
includes KIA Group launching 14 companies in Indonesia to expand the production of small cars

preparations were made, and the Prince of Wales climbed aboard, bearing a silver standing cup filled
with wine. Two workers climbed onto the slipway carrying hammers, and split asunder the blocks

Executive Branch Departments
The Executive Branch is most commonly associated with the role of the President. There are many
different types of departments under the president that he directly monitors. Among those
departments, certain responsibilities are handed out to maintain and regulate what is done with our
nuclear weapons. The Executive Branch Departments that monitor and make strategic decisions
involving nuclear weapons in the United States are the Department of Defense, the Department of
Energy, and the Department of Homeland Security. Each of these departments have individual key
roles that regulate the nuclear weapons our country currently has as well as foreign countries.
The Department of Defense plays a large role in its responsibility with nuclear weapons. They are
assigned with creating policies that aligns with the NPR (Nuclear Posture Review) to minimize the
amount of nuclear weapons that are used in our defense (whitehouse.gov). The DOD is responsible for
creating a better plan that utilizes more non nuclear weaponry and strategy for defending our country.

Social Status In Jane Austen
Social status has always been very important, also in 21st century. Everyone has his own role in
society and social life. Hierarchy in 18th century England was almost everything. Status of one person
influenced the quality of life greatly. Social status and how the family functioned was very important
to women, especially young girls. Family social status played a huge role in these young girls life. If
the girl s family was rich, it meant that she will marry a wealthy husband. People with high status in
society, were the ones with huge political power and great influences. Social status has a huge impact

Elizabeth is a girl from a with social status, when Mr Darcy is the one who has gold. As was said
earlier Mr. Darcy s pride and Elizabeth s prejudice leads them to beautiful love. Elizabeth is a very
intelligent young girl that reads lots of books, also she doesn t care what social status she has got. As
Austen said that she had a lively, playful disposition, which delighted in anything ridiculous (Austen
3.14). For her the most important thing in people is if they are good and sincere. On the other hand Mr
Darcy is just full of himself, it s almost like his pride is pouring out of him. During the ball at the
Meryton, the gentlemen pronounced him to be a fine figure of a man, the ladies declared he was much
handsomer than Mr. Bingley, and he was looked at with great admiration for about half the evening
(Austen 3.5). Probably that s why the young girl has so much reserve towards his own person.
Elizabeth dreams of someone who will accept her just the way she is, she also doesn t want to get
married to a wealthy man as her parents would like their daughters to do. Even though the couple have
two different social status, they are able to become bound to each other. We are able to see how at first
Elizabeth had huge prejudice towards Mr Darcy, mostly because she thought of him as a bad man.
When she visits him in his own place she finds out that he is actually a good person. Their characters
and attitudes towards each other change quickly. From total rejection to the absolute love. When we
look more closely we may see that most of the prejudice in Mr Darcy s heart was connected with
status of her family. But when he realised how wonderful creature she is, he was able to overcome
everything just to be with her. The same was for Elizabeth, at first she was disapproving of his
behaviour and social class but in the end due to revealing his true self she strongly fell in love

Junk Food
Junk food has been getting a bad rap recently in society. It is believed that junk food is a leading factor
in childhood obesity and should not be allowed in public schools. Due to this many school systems
have enacted bans, or strict regulations that limit or completely exclude junk food in schools. Junk
food should not be banned in schools because schools profit and are able to fund education and
extracurricular activities through selling it, junk food isn t as harmful as one would think, and even if
schools ban junk food students can still be at risk of obesity through the use of outside sources.
Schools make huge profit through the use of vending machines and selling junk food that help fund

There are many studies that show junk food isn t as harmful as many would imagine. According to
Radford, A study followed nearly 20,000 students from kindergarten through the eighth grade in 1,000
public and private schools. The researchers examined the children s weight and found that in the
eighth grade, 35.5 percent of kids in schools with junk food were overweight while 34.8 percent of
those in schools without it were overweight (1). These researchers came to the conclusion through this
experiment that junk food in school wasn t as serious in issue as one would think. Junk food isn t
exactly available twenty four seven while students are in school. As stated by Rosenthal There really
isn t a lot of opportunity for children to eat while their in school, or at least eat endlessly, compared to
when their at home. As a result whether or not junk food is available to them in at school may not
have much bearing on how much junk food they eat (6). For lack of a better statement, students can t
eat as much at school as they can when their at home. Whether kids have access to junk food or not, it
is believed them gaining weight from it isn t an issue. As quoted by Radford, kids with access to junk
food at school were no heavier than those without (2). To be blunt, kids who eat junk food aren t going
to be any heavier than anyone else.

Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse-Five Essay
A piece a cake, this is a phrase commonly used unlike the phrase so it goes. In the novel
Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut the phrase so it goes is used 106 times. This three worded
phrase does not seem like it has more meaning than the four worded phrase, a piece a cake, but it
actually plays an important part in the novel. The phrase so it goes is specifically used after a person
has died in the book, which occurs frequently. Vonnegut uses this phrase to demonstrate that whatever
happens in life happens and so it goes. Kurt Vonnegut starts off with the main character, Billy Pilgrim,
trying to find a meaning in this war world because he finds life meaningless. Tralfamadorians however

audit failures have caused the profession to reassess and emphasise the importance of skepticism
during an audit engagement, ensuring that auditors increase their level of skepticism (Fullerton and
Durtschi, 2012). Auditors are now asked to expand their skeptical perspective to the level used by
forensic experts, which according to Fullerton and Durtschi (2012) assumes that management is
dishonest unless there is evidence to disprove this. The following summary discusses whether a higher
level of skepticism by the auditor would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The effectiveness of an audit procedure and its application is enhanced by the application of
professional skepticism and reduces the possibility that the auditor might select an inappropriate audit
procedure, misapply an appropriate audit procedure, or misinterpret the audit results (IAASB staff
question and answers, 2012).
Is audit quality enhanced by a higher level of skepticism
Fullerton and Durtschi, (2012) in their study found that internal auditors should adopt an elevated
attitude of skepticism, as they are the first line of defense for finding fraud within a firm. Internal
auditors, have an intimate knowledge of the workings of a firm, the corporate environment, as well as
employee activities are in a unique position to spot many of the symptoms of fraud to which an
external auditor may not be aware. Thus internal auditors should be more skeptical and use their
knowledge to enhance their fraud detection in firms (Fullerton and Durtschi, 2012). This is one of the
key inputs into the factors that drive audit quality as external auditors rely on inputs from internal
auditors in obtaining the evidence they require to produce the audit report (Fullerton and Durtschi,
2012).
Internal auditors are as per Fullerton and Durtschi (2012) obligated to be alert to the signs and
possibilities of fraud. External auditors focus on misstatements in the financial statements that are

Caribou In The Boreal Forest
Moose and woodland caribou competition in commercially logged areas in Quebec s boreal forest
during winter
Caribou are a primary source of meat for carnivores as well as a historic symbol in the boreal forest.
Many studies have been done on the deterioration of the caribou species in the boreal forest, and the
one main challenge of caribou conservation is the effect of commercial logging targeting 90+ year old
conifer trees. In all experimental studies, logging had different effects on the survival of the caribou in
the boreal forest, the main impact was how commercial logging impacted their food source, lichens, as
found in Leblond et al. (2013, 2014), Beguin et al (2013, 2015), Hins et al. (2008), and Stone et al.
(2008). Caribou conservation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, as figure 1 shows, moose and caribou still have competition for all these food sources
regardless if they were taken into account. Furthermore, figure 1 shows that when caribou and moose
were alone they had higher survival rates compared to when they are placed together, which indicated
that both species compete for food although one does not outcompete the other. However, one of the
limitations of my study is that the treatment could not be replicated multiple times because of the
limitations of finding the 90+ conifers and the gathering of the large herbivores. This research is
important for the conservation of the woodland caribou species because it helps us understand how
caribou survive in the winter in commercially logging areas with reduced lichens has solely leading to
caribou population decline, or rather that interspecies competition with moose has contributed to their
declining population. Other studies may use this data and look at how to preserve the declining
caribou numbers, and gather that segregating them from other large herbivores may help preserve the

Manitoba Hydro, Hydro Electric Board
Manitoba Hydro is Manitoba s major energy utility provider, serving 561,869 electric customers and
274,817 natural gas customers throughout the province (2). Manitoba Hydro provides services that run
from exporting electricity worldwide, to providing customers with tips on how to save money on their
electricity bills. Hydro provides services such as Power Smart technologies, which help to reduce a
client s energy consumption while reducing their environmental impact. Manitoba Hydro is a large
believer in protecting the environment. Environmental protection was seen with their large scale
capital projects such as environmental protection and monitoring programs, climate change initiatives,
energy efficiency initiatives, and environmental research and development (2). Manitoba Hydro
became a crown corporation in 1961 through the Manitoba Hydro Act; the utility was governed by the
Manitoba Hydro Electric Board (17). Manitoba Hydro controlled the gas and electric consumptions
within Manitoba except Winnipeg Hydro. In 2002, an acquisition occurred meaning that Manitoba
Hydro now owns Winnipeg Hydro. Today Manitoba Hydro is a major energy utility providing the
lowest electricity rates in Canada. We operate 15 hydroelectric facilities on the Saskatchewan,
Winnipeg, Burntwood, Laurie and Nelson rivers, two thermal and four diesel generating stations (1).

The Complex Idea Of Good And The Power Of Faith
Benjy Herrmann
Paper #3
October 27, 2016
GESM 110

The Complex Idea of Good and the Power of Faith Violence, specifically with murder, is inherently
morally wrong in the vast majority of cases. But through analysis of Judah Rosenthal in Woody Allen
s Crimes and Misdemeanors, Kenny and Tub in Tobias Wolff s Hunters in the Snow, and the Grandma
and The Misfit in Flannery O Connor s A Good Man is Hard to Find, the traditional sides of good and
bad in a murder are blurred. One of the most important ideas seen throughout these pieces is the role
of faith (or lack thereof) in decisions, whether in a life or death situation or in general, and that the
question of what exactly makes a moral, good individual is not a simple one. As the idiom there is
more than meets the eye suggests, there has yet to be a completely pure, good human, despite how
they might first appear. Despite the contributions of the other characters, The Misfit is the best
character to convey these themes, as his struggle with faith in the story requires complex analysis, as
the individual presents multiple angles to both the reader and the grandmother. The Misfit is first
introduced in the first paragraph of O Connor s short story, as Grandma tells her family of the
notorious killer who has just escaped from prison (O Connor 1042). While a fair assumption, The
Misfit is immediately established as an antagonist and an immoral individual. He then is not
mentioned until right before Pitty

Objectivity And Religion
The literatures on values in philosophy on observation and theory have to do with the distinction
between the observable and unobservable. Objectivity comes in degrees. Claims, methods and results
can be more or less objective, and, other things being equal. Using the term objective to describe
something often carries a special rhetorical force with it. The admiration of science among the general
public and the authority science enjoys in public life stems to a large extent from the view that science
is objective or at least more objective than other modes of inquiry. Understanding scientific objectivity
is therefore central to understanding the nature of science and the role it plays in society. How can we
maintain the view that objectivity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Contextual values are moral, personal, social, political and cultural values such as pleasure, justice and
equality, conservation of the natural environment and diversity. The most notorious cases of improper
uses of such values involve travesties of scientific reasoning, where the intrusion of contextual values
led to an intolerant and oppressive scientific agenda with devastating epistemic and social
consequences. In the Third Reich, a large part of contemporary physics, such as the theory of
relativity, was condemned because its inventors were Jewish; in the Soviet Union, biologist Nikolai
Vavilov was sentenced to death (and died in prison) because his theories of genetic inheritance did not
match Marxist Leninist ideology. Both states tried to foster a science that was motivated by political
convictions (Lenard s Deutsche Physik in Nazi Germany, Lysenko s anti genetic theory of inheritance
in the Soviet Union), leading to disastrous epistemic and institutional

Infant-Directed Media Analysis
The main purpose of this article is to examine how infants use memory to learn from books,
television, and touchscreens. It also tries to study the age related constrains on memory flexibility that
causes the transfer deficit so as to increase the creation and effective use of infant directed media in
early education. The study of the deferred imitation of media shows that the infants can learn from
picture books, television and touchscreens, and the imitation from television starts from 6 months
(Barr, 2013). The results of live demonstrations for infant to imitate is much better than that of the
televised and the book demonstration. Infants after watching a televised and a book demonstration can
only imitate half as many actions as infants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author makes some suggestions for improving the usage of media for infant learning. First of all,
he suggested that the quality of infant directed media should be improved to facilitate the infant
learning. The commercial products could repeat content, have realistic photographic images and
familiar characters to enhance visual mapping between 2D presentations and the 3D objects, and
feature labels and well timed sound effects to enhance auditory (Barr, 2013). These features can help
reduce the transfer deficit between the 2D and 3D format. The author also stated that since the infant s
engagement in the child directed television programs are significantly influenced by parents
engagement and description of content, so parents and educators could improve infant learning
through all 2D materials, not just books. I agree with the suggestion that infants should learn through
various sources, including 2D materials, books, etc. Many parents prefer to let their children to mostly
acquire knowledge from books, while the visual materials can better help the infants to access to the
complex knowledge, thus improving their learning

Film Analysis Of The Movie The Bride Of Frankenstein
Making a good movie is easy but making a great movie is hard. As I watched a short clip from the
movie The Bride of Frankenstein I watched how the acting, plot, lighting, camera work, and script all
made this film come to life. This movie was made in 1935 yet it is still so compelling to watch
because it is successful with the important components of a movie. The first thing I noticed about the
short clip was the lighting. As a photographer lighting is the most important thing about pictures and
films. I realized that the whole movie was very dark for the most part. As I watched the short clip I
saw harsh shadows on the background or on their faces which gave a mysterious feeling. As a viewer
it came off creepy, and kept thinking was something about to pop out? The lighting was great when
Pretorius says to Dr. Frankenstein You are responsible for all the murders, there is a dark shadow on
Dr. Frankenstein. As for Pretorius it seems like he has a halo of light around him. I have a feeling that
the lightening in this conversation was intentional. Dr. Frankenstein is looked down, dark, and evil
because he murdered people. While in this same conversation it seems like Pretorius is the good guy
in this situation even though they both do not seem very good. All in all, the lighting was very
intentional. If they put soft/ airy lighting in this film, I do not think the message would come across
and it would not be as interesting than it was. Acting and script go hand on hand

The Pros And Cons Of Pterosaurs
Neither bats nor birds, pterosaurs were considered reptiles. And although scientists have long debated
where exactly pterosaurs fit on the reptile s family tree, it has been proven time and again that they
were close cousins to dinosaurs but just evolved on a different family line. The top theory as of now
among scientists is that pterosaurs, crocodiles, and dinosaurs are closely related to each other as a
group. In the kingdom of Animalia, these three belong to a group known as archosaurs. The
Prehistoric Flying Reptiles Pterosaurs flourished during the age of dinosaurs, more than 150 million

The Argument That Young Pterosaurs Weren t Flightless Other authors of the study add a good point,
opposing that their discovery doesn t necessarily prove that the young pterosaurs were born flightless.
Michael Habib, one of the authors and a paleontologist at the University of Southern California,
claimed that the wings are more robust compared to the hind limbs. Furthermore, Habib said that the
structure and the bone share are both integral to tell the strength of the species. The other researchers
suspect that some juvenile, eggs, and adult individuals were washed away from the nesting site due to
the storm in the lake, where later on they were fossilized. Unwin further said that it is possible that a

Roaring 20 s Research Paper
Of all the time periods I could choose from, I would choose to be born into the roaring 20 s. The
roaring 20 s were a post world war era associated with an economic boom in the United States, and
that subsequent wealth led to a time when society changed in such a way as to correlate with the
massive changes occurring in the US. Even though this wealth couldn t last forever, as shown through
the Great Depression which began in 1929, the country itself underwent advances that forever
changed the course of its history. Teen girls began to rebel against what was considered proper society

In 1920, after many long years of the suffragette movement, which included protests, imprisonment,
and even force feeding, women received the right to vote, the first of many times women brought
about change in order to better the lives of others. The 1920 s are simply credited as one of the most
exciting decades in our history. At the beginning of this decade, women were still wearing corsets, and
toward the end, women had changed their fashion in a way that would make their mothers shudder. I
would like to be a part of this time not only for the glitz and glamour it is often associated with, but
simply to witness all the change that occurred in this country during that short time. So many social
shifts occurred that got the ball rolling on how modern social society works. It is a decade that
transformed the American way, which was associated with hard work being necessary for survival and
the only way to achieve what you set your mind to. Considering the 1920 s are a post world war era,
America soon adopted an attitude of living in the moment and risking it all, which contributed to the
change of so many social mores. By going back to this time I can witness not only the changing of
society, but the changing of the whole world as they knew

Demographic Transition From Rural to Urban Areas
From 2000 until 2030 the urbanized areas will be nearly tripled1 because of the demographic
transition from rural to urban. The use of dark building materials, such as asphalt and concrete, leads
to a lower albedo in urbanized areas than in natural environment2, fostering local and global warming.
In turn, the increase in urban albedo might support climate stabilization efforts3. Here, we investigate
the potential effect of the increase in albedo in a representative set of European cities relying on
instantaneous radiative forcing (IRF), urban cooling and the consequent effect on mortality, ozone
formation and energy use. Apart from any geographical distinction, cities show that the increases in
albedo in compact cities have a cooling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, we use the effect of the local variation in temperature on the heating and cooling degree
days (HDD) (CDD) as a proxy for the effect on energy use and on the related greenhouse gas
emissions. Although these indicators are not representative of all t, they cover the most important
ones. We calculate the potential effect of the local unitary increase in albedo on IRF responsiveness
(R) for a sample of 145 cities and urbanized areas in three geographical areas: southern; central; and
northern Europe (see Methods). Low cloudiness and high solar radiation make R in southern European
cities two times higher than in other regions (see SI Table 1). The mean R in northern European cities
is slightly higher than in central European cities with values of 46 and 45 Wm 2 respectively (Fig. 1)
since cloudiness is lower in northern Europe. This result shows that climatological features would
potentially make southern cities more effective that central and northern European ones in
counteracting climate change.
Apart from any geographical and climatological distinction, the peculiar size and the morphological
characterization of each city may play a role in affecting IRF. We calculate the potential increase in

The Current Civil Justice System Of England And Wales Essay
In your opinion, how adequate is the current Civil Justice System of England and Wales in respect of
delivering access to justice? To determine whether the current Civil Justice System of England and
Wales is adequate in delivering access to justice, it is necessary to look at the system prior to the
Woolf reforms, the implementations made by the Woolf reforms and the implementations made by the
Jackson reforms. The Civil Justice System of England and Wales prior to the Woolf reforms Prior to
the Woolf reforms, the Civil Justice System of England and Wales was just a civil system as there was
no Justice. This is because lawyers were able to charge as much as they liked. This meant that only
those who were wealthy would get representation in court as they were the only ones who could afford
the absurd amounts charged by lawyers. As the loser pays the cost, those who were not wealthy would
find themselves losing more money as they could not afford representation. This meant that the
wealthier party did not lose out as their costs would be reimbursed to them. There were also excessive
documents which were not needed. This incurred various delays with false starts. The terminology
used was archaic and therefore incomprehensible for those with no legal knowledge . This posed a
problem for those who had to represent themselves in court. What all of these show is that there was
no justice in the civil system prior to the Woolf reforms. What can be said to be the ideal system of

Justice Systems And The Justice System Of Other Nations

punishment, death penalties, and imprisonments. The question I present is what about all those who
have been unlawfully convicted, sentenced and then later on exonerated centered upon DNA or

The U.S. Constitution is supposed to guarantee the protection of those rights. This is why we go
through countless lengths of looking for evidence and testimonies in our courts of law. Regardless of
who the person is or what they may have done, discretion should always be used because the evidence
will in many cases set the path for the sentence. If all the components are brought properly to the case,
then the investigations should work accordingly and as follows from courts to sentencing.
Nevertheless, those that are given a guilty verdict are not always the truly guilty defendants, many
innocent people have been led to prison and there is where their nightmare begins in living color.
When an innocent individual is incarcerated, it is an injustice to the individual being sentenced, the
relatives of the sentenced, and the criminal justice system altogether. Years may pass and new
evidence will be presented such as DNA testing and it will have confirmed that individual as innocent

Argumentative Essay On The Iraq War
The Iraq War started in 2003. The war was a protracted armed conflict that began with the invasion of
Iraq by a coalition led by the United states. This ultimately led to overthrowing Saddam Hussein s
government.
The political, economic, and social reasons that led to the war.
Iraq has been the concentration of the universal group and has been included unmistakably in the
media as of late, as the radical Islamist assemble known as the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria has
significantly expanded its energy and impact in the area in the last half of 2014. The political turmoil
and definitely crumbled security condition, which describes present day Iraq, can be followed back to
the United States intrusion of that nation and ISIS, which has as of late developed in Iraq and Syria, in
the revolt against the resultant US occupation, in those days as al Qaeda in Iraq. In any case, for what
reason did the US attack and involve Iraq anyway? Today, there is a troublesome civil argument about
what the Bush organization s intentions were, with the probably clarification being a blend of the
majority of the reasons advertised. What should likewise be considered is that the occasions paving
the way to the 2003 attack just go most of the way to clarify why the US propelled this crusade, and
keeping in mind the end goal to comprehend the intricate and multidimensional components adding to
the Bush organization s choice to attack Iraq, one must backpedal further and look at pre 9/11 US

  • 2. What Is The Rhyme Scheme Of Sonnet 18 The overall form is that it is a sonnet. It is not just a sonnet because it is titled Sonnet 18 but it is a sonnet or a little song because it has fourteen lines within this poem. It however, is not just a sonnet but a Shakespearean sonnet. This poem is a Shakespearean sonnet because the rhyme scheme is in ABAB CDCD EFEF GG form. For example, Shall I compare thee to a summer s day? / Thou art more lovely and more temperate. / Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, / And summer s lease hath all too short a date; / (Lines 1 4). The word day and May rhyme with one another making line 1 and line 3 labeled A. Also, temperate and date both rhyme with one another as well making line 2 and line 4 labeled B and it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He loves this person and talks about how in nature s beauty it can fade but come back while this person is beautiful and when Shakespeare writes about his or her beauty it will never fade because poetry never dies. He not only uses the denotation of words but also the connotation of words such as lovely and temperate . Such as, Thou art more lovely and more temperate. / (line 2). He uses words like these to truly express his affection with her because these in their dictionary meaning are extremely beautiful and the meanings of these words go beyond just their dictionary meaning such as the word temperate which holds a deep affectionate meaning. He begins this poem with the rhetorical question that sets the conceit that will be the main metaphor throughout this entire poem, a summer s day. Also he uses metaphors else where. One example is, Sometimes too hot the eye of heaven shines, / (line 5). The eye of heaven as used in line 5 is referring to the sun and sometimes during the summer it truly is too hot because the sun is just shining too bright. He also uses personification in this poem. For example, Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, / (line 3). The words shake and darling are more commonly used with humans rather than nature, even though winds can have the power to shake things and buds can be called darling it is not as common as calling a person darling or saying a person can shake something. These metaphors and personifications are great help with concrete poetry, to help painting an image in the mind of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Lala Land And Lala Land Dreams. Everyone has Dreams. Something for someone to think about when they re in times of trouble. The Academy Award winning film, Lala Land takes the aspect of dreams to a completely different level. Whenever Damien Chazelle released the first trailer for the movie over a year ago, I was automatically in love with the masterpiece that was about to bless all my five senses. Just within the minute and a half teaser I saw over a year ago, I was mesmerized by the phenomenal cinematography and score. The amazing film, Lala Land is the best movie ever made because of the: amazing directing, phenomenal score, and the immediate chemistry from the two main characters. Damien Chazelle is a 32 year old director who has already acclimated a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The music in those final twenty minutes are so powerful, that I remember bawling my eyes out and clapping in the middle of the theatre. To this day, I still have Mia and Sebastian s Theme on my phone. On screen chemistry is incredibly important aspect to making a movie that includes two or more people; and this movie absolutely nailed it. With a movie about a failing actress and jazz pianist that fall in love in Las Angeles, the actors have to be both good and convincing. Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling do an amazing job playing a couple who fall in love in a difficult part of their lives. They re acting was so good; they both got nominated for an Academy Award; but sadly, only Emma Stone got the award. Emma Stone deserved that award; and she gave a performance that will live on for generations. What really saddens me is how blind people can be to how beautiful a musical can be. From the many reviews I ve read, many of them are written by people who just hate musicals in general. However, there are also people who are unbiased about the genre of the movie; and actually, think that Ryan Gosling s acting is bland and Emma Stone s singing and dancing is hard to watch. Although; I believe that Lala Land is a masterpiece that should be praised for decades upon decades. I ve heard opinions from my friends that I may have forced to watch the movie; and every single person has said nothing but positive things about the film. They all say that the ... This military force began around the 1920 s and have experienced a lot of tension between political groups. The Peshmerga is currently fighting ISIS which is the biggest terrorist organization in the world. They are not only the leading protectors of the Kurdistan Region, but also the entire world. Initially, the Peshmerga was developed by freedom fighters that were members of the KDP and PUK, who used guerrilla warfare tactics to regain control of and protect Kurdistan. After the collapse of the Ottoman and Qajar empires, freedom fighters created the Peshmerga to regain control over Kurdistan. When the Peshmerga first started, guerrilla warfare was used to fight enemies and defend the Kurdistan Region. The Peshmerga had become an effective and powerful guerrilla fighting force at the time of the Iran and Iraq war in the 1980 s ( Who are the Peshmerga?, 2014). The members of the Peshmerga battled to keep the region under the authority of their leading governmental party. The KDP consisted of a conservative political philosophy that follows tradition. The philosophical differences between the two groups in power of the region and Peshmerga caused a civil war to break out in the 1990 s. This war caused Kurds to choose sides and hatred increased. The Peshmerga was used to fight against one another in support of their leading power. Coyne Evolution In the first chapter, Coyne discusses the basic concept outline of evolution, and brings clarity to the common misconceptions thought and said about how the science works, and the large misuse of the word theory. The first chapter of this book also defines very carefully each of the main hypothesis of evolutionary theory. Which stands in dissimilarity to many other treatments of evolution, which all have a propensity to confuse some readers by integrating different meanings of the word. Coyne also divides Darwinism into six components. They are: evolution which means change over time, gradualism which is a policy of slower change rather than sudden change or a revolution, speciation which is the evolutionary process where a new biological species ... From the philosophical motives of why a scientist will say evolution is true, to the new field of evolutionary make up, to the suggestions of evolution for our perspective. He never employs much time appealing the creationists directly or discrediting most of their arguments, but as an alternative gently persuades the reader by evidently and simply describing and clarifying the overpowering evidence that evolution occurred, much like Darwin did many years ago. Just like that, Coyne s book is a brilliantly stable approach that is moderately persuasive without being argumentative, and does work well for those people who are sitting on the fence about the fact of ... • 8. Mcteague Character Analysis Reverting Back to a Greedy Animal In the novel McTeague by Frank Norris, the author touches on various themes throughout the novel. Many of the characters exhibit animalistic qualities, greediness, and/or both. Characters are often compared to as animals, while others let their greed overcome them. Some characters McTeague and Trina also return to a previous place and/or state of being. Of all the themes noted in McTeague, the animal like qualities, the greed, and the reversion of the characters are major reoccurring themes that can be found in the selected passage on page 323 of the novel. One of the main significance of the passage on page 323 is the mention of animalist characters. For example, the main character, McTeague, is depicted as having a strange sixth senses, that obscure brute instinct that was warning him of something that was about to happen (Norris 323). A sixth sense is an inborn instinct that most animals have. It acts a warning that something is about to happen or someone will appear. It is this instinct that causes McTeague believe someone or something is coming for him and to flee from the mine. Also, McTeague is often described as a brute, which is another term for a savage animal. The reference to a brute is seen various times throughout the novel and describes the innate nature of McTeague. Frank Norris depicts McTeague as a draft horse, immensely strong, stupid, docile, obedient (3). Draft horses were often used for labor work similar to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Canter Fair Description We are peasants in medieval times that work hard every day and try to make a living and this is our story. In a small home outside of Canterbury lived four men and their families named Arthur, Drake, Griffo, and Hrodebert. Throughout The Street Lawyer Michael and Mordecia counseled each individual to gain a knowledge of what their lives were before they became homeless and why they have become homeless. Most lawyers would not take the time find out if whether or not their client had a place to sleep or food to eat the night before. Many lawyers would not offer their services free of charge. Michael and Mordecia worked as lawyers as well as social workers. Each day Michael and Mordecia traveled to a local homeless shelter to interview potential clients and help them with whatever they needed. Most of their clients were generally homeless people or individuals who were laid off from their job recently. The two helped these individuals fill out government forms, obtain job applications, and sometimes a rehab center for those who were addicted to drugs and alcohol. At times some clients could not be helped but Michael and Mordecia provided their counseling service as a means of help. Some individuals only needed some to talk to about what was going on in their life at that time. He wants his readers to see the similarities between social workers and attorneys. His examples with Michael and Mordecia with their clients express key elements in the career of a social worker. EVALUATION/CONCLUSION The Street Lawyer by John Grisham ... • 12. The Cause And Effects Of The Mini Ice Age The mini ice age, or Little Ice Age (LIA), was a period of time characterized by a decrease in temperatures worldwide. Although there are no definite times for the start and end of the Little Ice Age, it is generally accepted that it occurred from approximately 1300 CE to 1850 CE. The coldest stage of this time lasted from around 1645 to 1715. Also, the expansion of mountain glaciers in several locations was a distinctive feature of the Little Ice Age. The event had various effects and its origins are disputable. Several causes of the Little Ice Age have been proposed. One of them describes a decrease in sunspot activity, or times when dark spots form on the sun due to low temperatures. The lack of sunspots during the LIA is known as the Maunder Minimum. Since it appeared to occur concurrently with the coldest part of the ice age, from 1645 to 1715, it was considered a plausible reason to explain the Little Ice Age. However, this theory has its flaws, because modeled simulations point to the idea that temperatures would ve dropped to a maximum of 0.4ºC, when the world saw actual decreases of 1 2ºC. Furthermore, the Little Ice Age started before the Maunder Minimum happened, so additional information is needed to explain the original cause of the LIA. Another idea for the catalyst of the Little Ice Age involves the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), a circulation of atmospheric pressure in North America and northern Europe. Typical, or positive NAO is shown when a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Is audit quality enhanced by a higher level of skepticism Fullerton and Durtschi, (2012) in their study found that internal auditors should adopt an elevated attitude of skepticism, as they are the first line of defense for finding fraud within a firm. Internal auditors, have an intimate knowledge of the workings of a firm, the corporate environment, as well as employee activities are in a unique position to spot many of the symptoms of fraud to which an external auditor may not be aware. The Complex Idea Of Good And The Power Of Faith Benjy Herrmann Paper #3 October 27, 2016 GESM 110 12:30 1:50 TTh The Complex Idea of Good and the Power of Faith Violence, specifically with murder, is inherently morally wrong in the vast majority of cases. But through analysis of Judah Rosenthal in Woody Allen s Crimes and Misdemeanors, Kenny and Tub in Tobias Wolff s Hunters in the Snow, and the Grandma and The Misfit in Flannery O Connor s A Good Man is Hard to Find, the traditional sides of good and bad in a murder are blurred. One of the most important ideas seen throughout these pieces is the role of faith (or lack thereof) in decisions, whether in a life or death situation or in general, and that the question of what exactly makes a moral, good individual is not a simple one. As the idiom there is more than meets the eye suggests, there has yet to be a completely pure, good human, despite how they might first appear. Despite the contributions of the other characters, The Misfit is the best character to convey these themes, as his struggle with faith in the story requires complex analysis, as the individual presents multiple angles to both the reader and the grandmother. The Misfit is first introduced in the first paragraph of O Connor s short story, as Grandma tells her family of the notorious killer who has just escaped from prison (O Connor 1042). While a fair assumption, The Misfit is immediately established as an antagonist and an immoral individual. He then is not mentioned until right before Pitty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Pros And Cons Of Pterosaurs Neither bats nor birds, pterosaurs were considered reptiles. And although scientists have long debated where exactly pterosaurs fit on the reptile s family tree, it has been proven time and again that they were close cousins to dinosaurs but just evolved on a different family line. The top theory as of now among scientists is that pterosaurs, crocodiles, and dinosaurs are closely related to each other as a group. In the kingdom of Animalia, these three belong to a group known as archosaurs. The Prehistoric Flying Reptiles Pterosaurs flourished during the age of dinosaurs, more than 150 million years ago. The earliest of their kinds are small flying reptiles. Yes, they do fly, with long tails and sturdy bodies and surprisingly, some were also extraordinarily large. However, roughly ... The Argument That Young Pterosaurs Weren t Flightless Other authors of the study add a good point, opposing that their discovery doesn t necessarily prove that the young pterosaurs were born flightless. Michael Habib, one of the authors and a paleontologist at the University of Southern California, claimed that the wings are more robust compared to the hind limbs. Furthermore, Habib said that the structure and the bone share are both integral to tell the strength of the species. The other researchers suspect that some juvenile, eggs, and adult individuals were washed away from the nesting site due to the storm in the lake, where later on they were fossilized. Unwin further said that it is possible that a group of female pterosaurs may have laid their eggs in the same area, which is the same thing to sea turtles that return to the same ocean or beaches each year to lay ... • 30. Roaring 20 s Research Paper Of all the time periods I could choose from, I would choose to be born into the roaring 20 s. The roaring 20 s were a post world war era associated with an economic boom in the United States, and that subsequent wealth led to a time when society changed in such a way as to correlate with the massive changes occurring in the US. Even though this wealth couldn t last forever, as shown through the Great Depression which began in 1929, the country itself underwent advances that forever changed the course of its history. Teen girls began to rebel against what was considered proper society by following new, up and coming fashion trends that showed more skin than their parents could handle, causing a domino effect of rebellious children and ... In 1920, after many long years of the suffragette movement, which included protests, imprisonment, and even force feeding, women received the right to vote, the first of many times women brought about change in order to better the lives of others. The 1920 s are simply credited as one of the most exciting decades in our history. At the beginning of this decade, women were still wearing corsets, and toward the end, women had changed their fashion in a way that would make their mothers shudder. I would like to be a part of this time not only for the glitz and glamour it is often associated with, but simply to witness all the change that occurred in this country during that short time. So many social shifts occurred that got the ball rolling on how modern social society works. It is a decade that transformed the American way, which was associated with hard work being necessary for survival and the only way to achieve what you set your mind to. Considering the 1920 s are a post world war era, America soon adopted an attitude of living in the moment and risking it all, which contributed to the change of so many social mores. By going back to this time I can witness not only the changing of society, but the changing of the whole world as they knew ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Demographic Transition From Rural to Urban Areas From 2000 until 2030 the urbanized areas will be nearly tripled1 because of the demographic transition from rural to urban. The use of dark building materials, such as asphalt and concrete, leads to a lower albedo in urbanized areas than in natural environment2, fostering local and global warming. In turn, the increase in urban albedo might support climate stabilization efforts3. Here, we investigate the potential effect of the increase in albedo in a representative set of European cities relying on instantaneous radiative forcing (IRF), urban cooling and the consequent effect on mortality, ozone formation and energy use. Apart from any geographical distinction, cities show that the increases in albedo in compact cities have a cooling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, we use the effect of the local variation in temperature on the heating and cooling degree days (HDD) (CDD) as a proxy for the effect on energy use and on the related greenhouse gas emissions. Although these indicators are not representative of all t, they cover the most important ones. We calculate the potential effect of the local unitary increase in albedo on IRF responsiveness (R) for a sample of 145 cities and urbanized areas in three geographical areas: southern; central; and northern Europe (see Methods). Low cloudiness and high solar radiation make R in southern European cities two times higher than in other regions (see SI Table 1). The mean R in northern European cities is slightly higher than in central European cities with values of 46 and 45 Wm 2 respectively (Fig. 1) since cloudiness is lower in northern Europe. This result shows that climatological features would potentially make southern cities more effective that central and northern European ones in counteracting climate change. Apart from any geographical and climatological distinction, the peculiar size and the morphological characterization of each city may play a role in affecting IRF. We calculate the potential increase in average ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Current Civil Justice System Of England And Wales Essay In your opinion, how adequate is the current Civil Justice System of England and Wales in respect of delivering access to justice? To determine whether the current Civil Justice System of England and Wales is adequate in delivering access to justice, it is necessary to look at the system prior to the Woolf reforms, the implementations made by the Woolf reforms and the implementations made by the Jackson reforms. The Civil Justice System of England and Wales prior to the Woolf reforms Prior to the Woolf reforms, the Civil Justice System of England and Wales was just a civil system as there was no Justice. This is because lawyers were able to charge as much as they liked. This meant that only those who were wealthy would get representation in court as they were the only ones who could afford the absurd amounts charged by lawyers. As the loser pays the cost, those who were not wealthy would find themselves losing more money as they could not afford representation. This meant that the wealthier party did not lose out as their costs would be reimbursed to them. There were also excessive documents which were not needed. This incurred various delays with false starts. The terminology used was archaic and therefore incomprehensible for those with no legal knowledge . This posed a problem for those who had to represent themselves in court. What all of these show is that there was no justice in the civil system prior to the Woolf reforms. What can be said to be the ideal system of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
