Not Guilty In Plato s Apology
In his influential dialogue Apology , Plato employs Socrates pleading not guilty to his allegations in
his trial to argue that the men deemed as wise, are actually not as wise as they appear to be. Searching
further into this text will reveal how Plato intended for Apology to have a deeper meaning. Socrates
questions the wise politicians, the philosophers, and the crafters of their knowledge and wisdom to
discover that they themselves do not comprehend what their work is about. In Apology Socrates states
When I began to talk with him, I could not help thinking, that he was not really wise, although he was
thought wise by many, and still wiser by himself; and thereupon I tried to explain to him that he
thought himself wise, but was not really

Humorous Journeys
It is November 15, 2016. I look out my window hoping that don t see the blazing hot sun ripping
through my white curtains almost taunting me. All I see is the clouds laying low on the mountain tops
giving my eye a storybook illusion. I know I have to get out of bed but the comfort of my blue cotton
sheets keep me trapped in a bundle of warmness making the struggle that much harder. eventually I
pull off the what seemed to be my morning happiness and go to the restroom.
After getting dressed in the proper attire for what seems to be a glorious day of what I heard to be an
emotional roller coaster, I head to my destination. On the way there I ask once again where we were
going.
My mother turns back to me with a troubled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
all the while I do this we are already on to the last stretch of the tour. We are in a dark room and you
could hear the breaths of the members of the group. It makes me feel uncomfortable but we soon make
our way into a room full of light. Their is a man their standing about 6 0ft also fair skinned with a sort
of spike hair cut giving out cards. As I go through the line he hands me card with a little boys face on
it. The picture on the card is black and white with the name Peter lined up above the little boys face. I
am confused at first but then I realize that this is the face of a boy who was in an internment camp.
After everyone gets this card we are taken through the stages of when they are bought into the camp
from when they are executed or escape. I first start in a room where if you are between the ages of 14
40 you are to go into the interment camps and work until death. The other room was for women with
babies and the elderly. They were to be executed immediately. I go through a door with myself and my
seventeen year old sister and wave goodbye to my mother and little sister. I think to myself I can t
believe that this is what they had to go through. After walking through the short hallway that led us to
our fait we all end up in the same room. It took people including my self a while to realize that we are

Airport Air Pollution
E. Testa, C. Giammusso, M. Bruno and P. Maggiore, Analysis of environmental benefits resulting
from use of hydrogen, Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy, vol. 16, pp. 875 890, 2013.
This article is from the Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy and the authors of the article are
from the Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy. The intended audience of this article are the airport
planners and policymakers, who can use this study to define a feasible environmental policy. The
purpose of this study is to explore the potential of hydrogen as a fuel in the airport GSE vehicles in
order to reduce the airport air pollution. The methodology developed for this study compares the direct
emissions and indirect emissions for both diesel and hydrogen technologies. The direct emissions are
produced by combustion fuel and the indirect emissions are related to the production of fuel. In case
of hydrogen technology, proton exchange membrane fuel cells are used to power the GSE vehicles.
The study also includes the investigation of Steam methane reforming and Electrolysis technologies
for the production of gaseous hydrogen at the airport. The various pollutants that are investigated in
this study include carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides etc. The major
inputs used in the study are a number of air transport movements, the aircraft fleet mix, the turnaround
time for handling operations and the ratio of GSE vehicles converted to hydrogen. The

Alison In The Miller s Tale
Throughout The Miller s Tale the representation of women is solely shown through the character of
Alison. Her character throughout the text is shown in a very negative and anti feminist light. Women
are mainly used and depicted as objects of desire; she is only ever being described physically, for
example when he describes the clothes she wears Whit was hir smok, and broaden al bifore (Chaucer,
2012, p.267) and not what s in her mind. It s as if women were only useful for relationships, marriage
and what they could provide sexually Or yit for any good yeman to wedde (Chaucer, 2012, p.268).
Alison is one of the main characters in the story but she isn t written to be a main character, her main

Alison is consistently described as an animal about to be ravaged, a piggesnye, For any lord to leggen
in his bedde (Chaucer, 2012, p.268) which tells us that animals are unable to control their lust so we
assume Alison is unable to. Further animal references, If she hadde been a mous, And he a cat, he
wolde hire hente (Chaucer, 2012, p.269) and As any wesele hir body gent and small (Chaucer, 2012,
p.267) the metaphors here turn Alison into an object that is meant to be ravaged by the men around
her, rather than a person who makes her own decisions. Alison s character borrows a lot from
misogynistic stereotypes about women, which are seen as liars and cheats. The interesting thing is that
although she is being compared to animals, she is being compared to the animals that are attacked by
predators even though when you usually describe someone as an animal it s usually very powerful and
lustful such a lion and not as a mouse and weasel, almost implying that the representation of women
can be either be seen as powerful or weak, in this case it depicts Alison, and more importantly the
representation of women as a whole to be weak characters which are overpowered by

Of Abraham Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln And The President Of...
War is chaos and the devil itself. It represents the cruelty and darkness in the human heart. In 1861, a
Civil War broke out between the North and the South. A soldier who served in the Civil War said in a
letter to his parents, Many became ill from exposure and starvation, and were left on the road. ( Letters
and Diaries, 1862) The war continued for four years and was considered by historians as the most
devastating war the United States has witnessed. Nonetheless, the Civil War produced two of the most
brilliant minds in American history: Abraham Lincoln and Nathan Bedford Forrest. Abraham Lincoln,
the 16th President of the United States of America, served as the main strategist for the North during
the Civil War and Nathan Bedford Forrest was a Lieutenant General in the Confederate Army. Both
Lincoln and Forrest came from humble origins and worked their way to success. However, Lincoln
gained his position as a President by using his tact and diplomacy although he was not appreciated for
his clever decisions and authority while Forrest became a General through aggression and was praised
by the South as a great tactician and a war hero. Abraham Lincoln s endeavor and success in granting
equal rights for African American will remain forever in the heart of later generations.
First, Abraham Lincoln and Nathan Bedford Forrest were not blessed with fortune and opportunity but
they achieved their goals through perseverance and great effort. Abraham Lincoln was born in 1809

bring it into the lives of others. More specifically those who may believe they weren t born with the
characteristics or traits to become a leader or those who have not found their passion or purpose in
life; their True North. The book, written by Bill George and co author Peter Sims, compiles a series of
interviews with 125 managers from Howard Schultz of Starbuck s to Dan Vasella of Novartis. The
interviewees guide readers through their journey to become the leaders they are today; discussing their

After realizing how your life story connects to your purpose and passion, the journey begins. Many
college graduates, and even some professionals believe the journey to leadership is a straight shot to
the top; as soon as you ve landed top management, you ve become a leader. But this idea is wrong.
Leadership is a journey that has many ups and downs. Bill George and Peter Sims have observed three
stages of leadership development:
I. Preparing for Leadership: Character Formation and Rubbing Up Against the World
II. Leading: Stepping Up to Lead
III. Giving Back: Generativity: Wisdom and Giving Back
As a student, I am in Phase I of my development. This stage is all about me; getting to know myself,
educating myself and gaining as much experience as possible. This is the phase where it is important
to ask ourselves, what do we want to do with our lives? In Phase II, we become leaders. In this phase,
we usually go through a crucible; a tough time in our lives that tests ourselves and transforms our
understanding of what leadership is all about. In Phase III, leaders are serving on for profit and not for
profit boards, mentoring young leaders, teaching, or coaching. They inspire and motivate others to
become authentic leaders. This is said to be the most rewarding phase of leadership development.

its own importance; comprehending in its consequences nothing less than the existence of the UNION,
the safety and welfare of the parts of which it is composed, the fate of an empire in many respects the

It is not, however, my design to dwell upon observations of this nature. I am well aware that it would
be disingenuous to resolve indiscriminately the opposition of any set of men (merely because their
situations might subject them to suspicion) into interested or ambitious views. Candor will oblige us to
admit that even such men may be actuated by upright intentions; and it cannot be doubted that much
of the opposition which has made its appearance, or may hereafter make its appearance, will spring
from sources, blameless at least, if not respectable the honest errors of minds led astray by
preconceived jealousies and fears. So numerous indeed and so powerful are the causes which serve to
give a false bias to the judgment, that we, upon many occasions, see wise and good men on the wrong
as well as on the right side of questions of the first magnitude to society. This circumstance, if duly

The Importance Of Vocation In A Ray Of Darkness
Former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams book A Ray of Darkness, has been influential on
my own journey with call and vocation. Prior church experiences taught me that introspection and self
exploration were too prideful and that it is the Christian s duty to continually pursue difficult things, in
spite of aptitude. The rationale was: if it is difficult, then it must be holy. It was this very mindset that
for many years, kept me from pursuing my calling.
Williams book was formative in my life because he critiques the common view of vocation as a
theatrical casting event, which is also how I once viewed vocation. Williams argues that the God
finding us a part to play perspective of vocation is inherently problematic and leads to resentment
when we do not feel we are being used 1. Rather, in quite ground breaking fashion Williams defines
vocation as the call to be and exist as oneself 2. This frees us
to respond to God s call within our own unique identities. This was a revolutionary thought that God
wants me to be myself. Williams exposes the tendency to hide in unreality and self protection, saying
that vocation is what s left when all the games have stopped. 3
Now that I am moving towards the priesthood, I am actively engaged in discovering myself and gifts
that I possess. This is a unique challenge after years of living up to others expectations of how a good
Christian should live. In the past, I did not give myself permission as Williams says to

Symptoms Of Acute Coronary Syndrome
Symptoms of Acute Coronary Syndrome
Acute coronary syndrome is a medical emergency in women and men that needs
immediate attention; it is imperative to identify early symptoms to get an early treatment with
good outcomes. The timely recognition of symptoms for this condition could be a matter of life
or death for the patient; acute coronary syndrome is responsible for more than seven million
deaths around the world each year, (De Vonn, Hogan, Ochs, amp; Shapiro, 2011). Su, Nyi, and Li
(2015) states, Approximately one third of people suffering heart attacks die before they reach
the hospital (pp.1). In many cases, when the symptoms of acute coronary syndrome arise,
people do not identify them until is too late for an intervention, so it is possible that socio
demographic factors such as, gender, age, ethnicity, and income of an individual influence the
recognition of symptoms of acute coronary syndrome and delay treatment?
A research study mentions, The most important factor impacting increasing time to
treatment for ACS is the patient s decision to delay seeking care, (De Vonn et al., 2011).
Sociodemographic and clinical factors such as, age, education level, and income play an
important role for those deciding when to seek for medical attention for symptoms of acute
coronary syndrome; Most patients who reported specific symptoms were male, young, with
better financial conditions, (Gouveia, Travassos, Mendes, amp; Silva, 2015). The association of the

Summary Of The Bhagavad Gita
The Bhagavad Gita, which means the song of the lord, is a part of the Mahabharata. It is a story about
the discourse between Arjuna, a prince, and Lord Krishna, who is an incarnation of the highest of all
divinity, creator of the entire universe. In the book, Arjuna is confused about his duty, dharma, to the
law of an elite warrior and kinship. It is Krishna who helps guide and encourage Arjuna to follow his
true path, svadharma. The book discusses three broad ways to live: devotion to god (bhakti), karma,
and jnana yoga which is practice and discipline. The Bhagavad Gita adapts and reformulates many
ideas of soul, karma, and ritual from Vedic sacrifice, the Upanishads, and Buddhism. These three
concepts are the major themes and are all interrelated with one another.
The Bhagavad Gita adopts and adapts the concept of karma from Buddhism, the Upanishads and
Vedic sacrifice. The concept of karma means action. In Vedic sacrifice and the Upanishads, karma is
associated with a ritual action. It was believed that by having rituals being performed by saints on
their behalf, one could improve the quality of their rebirth in the next life. The sacrificer would ask the
gods for strength, wealth, children, and immortality. In the Upanishads, karma is also associated to the
ideas of atman, self soul, and brahman, soul. The purpose of jnana yoga is to achieve the Upanishads
core teachings of the equivalence of the atman and the brahman. The Buddha changed the concept of

Litigation vs. Common Sense and Compassion
This essay will focus on the motivation in the phrase Common sense and compassion in the workplace
has been replaced by litigation. As a business relationship emerges between an employer and
employee negotiations, agreements, rules, and guidelines are formed. Normally these arrangements
and duties are established through the human resources (HR) department along with expectations that
an individual will perform their job with acceptable common sense and compassion if necessary.

The legal process within the human resources department tries to format strategies and alliances that
avoid negative activities affecting the employers and employees; however, exhibitions using common
sense or compassion can conflict with these guidelines creating inappropriate behaviors. If this
becomes the case, disciplinary actions begin bringing about other matters of legal issues.
Nevertheless, once an individual believes they have been illegally mistreated, they become more apt
to submit a lawsuit for purposes of revenge, financial struggles, or inapt employment securities
(Alboher, 2012).
The Safety Process versus Common Sense and Compassion The human resources process has to
accompany both the employee and employer in regard to safety issues. An employee wants the
assurance of safe and healthy working conditions; anything less exposes danger to their own
wellbeing. In addition employees must take heed to precautions design by the organization. However
an employer wants to avoid expenditures in overhead by cutting cost or corners often putting their
employees at harmful risk. In addition, organizations also have a lawful obligation in which they have
to provide a safe workplace by preventing accidents, hazards, serious injuries or accident related
deaths. Negligence on either behalf can result in determination, fines, citations, work related

A Good Man Is Hard to Find by Flannery O’Connor Essay
In the short story A Good Man Is Hard to Find, written by Flannery O Connor, the theme that the
definition of a good man is mysterious and flawed is apparent. The reader must realize that it is
difficult to universalize the definition of a good man because every person goes through different
experiences. Thus, these experiences affect his or her viewpoint and in turn flaw ones view on a good
man. O Connor conveys this theme through her excellent use of diction, imagery, foreshadowing, and
symbolism as well as through a creative use of repetition and an omniscient point of view. The
grandmother, the main character of the story, is manipulative. Her definition of a good man refers to
the characteristics that a good man should possess. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She [the grandmother] pointed out interesting details of the scenery: Stone Mountain, the blue granite
that in some places came up to both sides of the highway; the brilliant red clay banks slightly streaked
with purple; and the various crops that made row of green lace work on the ground. The trees were full
of silver white sunlight and the meanest of them sparkled. (1286) She uses informal diction to help
achieve the targeted theme and her slight use of a southern dialect is one brilliant component that
helps her to do so. For example, when the family stops for barbecue sandwiches along their way to
Tennessee, the owner s wife compliments the granddaughter. Ain t she cute? Red Sam s wife said,
leaning over the counter. Would you like to come be my little girl? (1287). Adding this southern twist
of diction as well as the southern setting helps to illustrate the culture the grandmother was raised in.
This helps to bridge the gap between what the reader s definition of a good man may be, based off of

The Role Of Directors And Responsibilities Of Directors

accomplished legitimately. This certainly isn t the first case where the following intentions were

principles persist to sustain under the common law and are fundamentally, though by no means
specifically, mirrored in directors constitutional duties under the corporations Act 2001(Bathurst,

to implement their authorities and complete their responsibilities and duties with utmost attention and
thoroughness [s 180]. (Legal service commission, 2015) The Corporations Act 2001 encompasses four
principal duties that are primary to directors, including care and diligence, proper use of position,
proper use of information and good faith (Australian Institute of Company Directors, 2015). This
section of paper will elaborate on the four principal duties mentioned earlier along with statutory
duties. Act Honestly The director should act in good faith and for the welfare of the company in
proper use. The duty requires more than just a normal sense of honestly, it demands directors to
implement independent judgment in light of relevant facts, views, materials when assessing for the
welfare of the company. It is of chief importance that a breach of this duty involving fraud,
recklessness and dishonestly could attract criminal penalties. Care and diligence The act identifies that
directors are to act with a notch of overhaul and assiduousness that a sensible person might be
expected to demonstrate in the role (s 180). Proper use of information To not indecorously use one s

The, Inc, The World Leader Of Innovative Casual Footwear
Crocs, INC is a world leader in innovative casual footwear. The key product differentiator that Croc s
offers is their use of Croslite material, a revolutionary technology that gives each pair of shoes the
soft, comfortable, lightweight, non marking, slip and odor resistant qualities that Crocs consumers
know and love. Founded by Scott Seamans, Lyndon Duke Hanson, and George Boedecker, Jr, Crocs
was the product that resulted from a sailing trip in the Caribbean and their need for a shoe that wouldn
t slip on a wet boat deck.
The shoes were an immediate success, and word of mouth quickly expanded their customer base of
people who spent the majority of their day standing, such as doctors and gardeners. Croc s was such a
success that they went ahead with an aggressive worldwide launch campaign, early on in the company
s life. CEO, Ronald Snyder, explained: The plan was, we re going to launch the world in order to get a
brand out that would be a sustainable brand with this funky looking, strange product. Other, larger
shoe companies, or even larger apparel companies, could have knocked us off, and could have gone
into Europe before we got there if they had infrastructure in Europe. They needed to launch
everywhere, almost simultaneously, in order to prevent potential threat, and create brand sustainability.
1. What are Croc s core competencies? Croc s has several core competencies that they use as a source
of competitive advantage over their rivals. For instance,

Cloning Individualism
Results May Vary: Adam Phillips s Theory of Cloning and The Paradoxical Apotheosis of
Individualism Adam Phillips s essay Sameness Is All takes the form of a dialogue with two children to
introduce the fantasy of cloning in which everyone is identical. Specifically, Phillips observes that
cloning is a denial of difference and dependence which leads to a refusal of need (92). However,
Phillip remains mindful that such fantasy of physical or psychological sameness is implausible as
everyone is different even clones. One then questions the significance of such wanting of sameness, or
if the sense of sameness serves any purpose. Using the concept of Self and Other that Joanne
Finkelstein examines in The Self as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader sees that the Self and the Other appear to exist in an obligate symbiotic relationship, where
both the Self and Other are dependent on each other for continued existence, and elucidates the reader
on the interdependency of the Self and Other.
After highlighting the interdependency of the Self and Other, Finkelstein uses this association between
Self and Other to delineate the adverse consequences of this symbiotic relationship. By identifying the
halo effect as a source of social pressure to conform, Finkelstein allows the reader to see Phillip s
theory of cloning as a feasible solution to the inherent issues of social injustice and despair in this
concept:
DeJong and Kleck (1986:66) maintain that...the overweight not only do not have an acceptable
physical appearance but are also perceived as characterologically flawed..the halo effect, which
explains why attractive people are gratuitously assigned other valued attributes, can be seen to work in
reverse for the overweight who are instead attributed with deficits of character. (181)
The halo effect mentioned by DeJong and Kleck refers to individuals being perceived as having
socially desirable personality traits on the basis of desirable physical attributes, and thus gratuitously
assigned other valued attributes. Conversely, an unattractive individual will be perceived as having

Morris Disappearing Bag A Christmas Story
Wells, R. (1980). Morris s disappearing bag: A Christmas story (3rd ed.). Harmondsworth, Middlesex,
England: Picture Puffins, Penguin Books.
Genre: Children
It s Christmas Day and Morris is missing. A simple story about the youngest who initially is happy
with his bear until he realising that he is missing out on sharing the other presents his siblings have
received because he has nothing they want to share. Not happy, Morris is unable to be consoled, even
though he has various ideas from his older family members, until he finds a disappearing bag and then
everyone wants what he has. Simple text, that is funny and engaging with simple drawings to support
a charming story. With beautiful imagery the story shows how Morris copes with his siblings and them
not sharing with him.
Reading this to children, they enjoy the rhythmical sentence structure, sharing ideas on how Morris
could be comforted, discussing options on why Morris cannot be found; the gas

Home Schooling Is An Amazing Experience This Year
Home schooling has been an amazing experience this year. 1It has helped me grow in my faith and in
my knowledge of the Bible. I have so much more knowledge dealing with the Bible and I am now so
much closer to God than I have ever been in my life up to this point. 2I have been more energized and
excited to learn, my entire personality has taken a huge turn for the better. I am now an outgoing,
bubbly girl ready to learn, that s from the inside out from the light of Jesus.3 Also, I have been able to
learn much more than I than I would have in a year of public school in one home school year! I have
done an extra semester in my math, I have also been on so many school trips that are all for school.
4There have been so many benefits for my family as well. We have all grown so much closer and we
actually get to see each other. Another huge benefit, I have noticed, of being home schooled is, 5I don
t have to worry about getting vulgar, ungodly, lessons that put down Christianity and God all day,
every day and I don t have to deal with all the horrible vulgarity from students and teachers alike. I
have grown in my faith, and knowledge; I have grown closer to God, family, and friends. I have
gained so much knowledge about God and his word since starting home schooling in early September.
Reading the Bible has become one of the subjects I am required to do every day and it has become my
absolute favorite. I have read the entire book of Galatians, Philippians,

The Censorship Of Media During Emergency Era
The media is considered as fourth estate of any democratic society. We take pride as being the largest
democracy in the world. Apart for the fact that we have elected form of government, it is the written
constitution which makes us a powerful democracy. The same constitution provides for freedom of
speech and expression in its Article 19. This constitutionally guaranteed freedom is the reason behind
thriving media in our country, which has earned reputation as being one of the most fearless and
influential institution in the world.
After Independence, we used to have Doordarshan and All India Radio as source of news along with
some independent newspapers. There were foreign broadcasters too but its reach was very limited to
common masses. Most of these instruments were considered as instruments of either ideology or
political party and there was no independent source of information. The censorship of media during
emergency era shows that how a dictatorial government can be afraid of this forth estate and can go to
any extent to curb its freedom. The era of economic reforms post 1991 saw the boost of both private
print as well as audio visual media.
An independent foreign observer might be surprised to see that what role does the media plays in our
society. The people consider information fed to them by the media as gospel truth. The politicians,
bureaucrats and elites are so afraid of media, that whenever something wrong on part of government is
shown to the people, the

The Ring Of The Bell On The Door
She gazed out of the café window and watched the rain make paths down the frosted glass. The
steaming cup of tea warmed her freezing fingers. Everything is cold, she thought as she focused on her
reflection, everything is always so damn cold. She sighed deeply, drawing the cup to her lips, the
smell of bergamot pervading her senses and warming her, if only for a moment. The image of his eyes
still haunted her, those intense eyes that had always pierced her soul, and the echoes of their last
conversation still skulked around her head. She knew she needed to let it go and move on, but she
couldn t. She loved him. And the truth of it, the fucking awful truth, was that she couldn t make him
love her back. The ring of the bell on the door was a brief distraction to her depressing thoughts. His
deep voice, thick with emotion as if he had recently been crying, broke through her reverie. Startled,
she looked up into the same eyes that she had just been brooding on. A thrill of panic, tinged with
desire, shot through her and then was gone. What do you want, Tae? she asked indifferently, breaking
their focus on each other by looking away. Please... I didn t mean to hurt you last night. I m sorry, he
said as he plopped down across from her, his bangs falling into his eyes. I didn t know you felt that
way about me. I swear if I did I... It doesn t matter. You can bring whoever you want home. It s no
business of mine. The coldness was everywhere now. She felt frozen and

Who Decided Essay
Nehal Housny Basic Composition
Kathy Wilford November 5, 2012 Who Decides? Medical Technologies (MT) is an essential factor
when it comes to science . However, there seems to be a misunderstanding on who should have the
power to control its use.The three most common figures that are usually involved in controlling MT s
are the government, doctors, and society. Each representative has its own advantages and
disadvantages .In both essays , The Made to Order Savior by Lisa Belkin and Who Holds the Clicker
by Lauren Slater , medical technology procedures are executed yet controlled and regulated
differently. Every figure has its own guidelines as to how to control this technology and at times there
was no control ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The doctor does not desire power or management to cure a patient. Instead, a doctor needs experience,
passion, and the will to decide when and how to use medical technology. In both Belkin and Slaters
essays the government is seen as an obstacle to allow the doctors be in control of their own job.
Government is looking for ways on how to control the people regardless if it is providing funds or not.
Peoples lives should not be based on what the governments visions are . The use of medical
technology should stand in the hands of the doctors with no pressure included.Neurosurgeon Rees
Cosgrove stated If we do not do this right and carefully, and , you know properly... I do not think we
will have another opportunity (242). There is a certain amount of pressure on the doctors shoulders to
perfect these experiments and devices. Because there is no time for trial and error doctors are not able
to test the procedure several times before actually executing it . There are no animal models of DBS
for anxiety or depression, so these forays into the human brains are largely unguided despite all the
high tech equipment (242). Once again, government is limiting the doctors options creating less
precise results for their research. Spending so much time with anyone creates a certain level of
attachment, let alone between a doctor and his or her patient. This attachment or bond can expedite the
curing period of a patient.

Comparing Beale Street Blues And No Easy Rider By Palmer...
The paintings that will be compared and contrasted are Beale Street Blues and No Easy Rider by
Palmer Hayden. Palmer Hayden created both artworks on an oil canvas during the Harlem
Renaissance period. Beale Street Blues as the title suggest is about Beale Street in Harlem, New York.
No Easy Rider there is not a clear suggestion from the title. He is notorious for his depictions of
everyday life or mundane activities of the African Americans. Beale Street Blues was created in 1943
and 1948 for No Easy Rider was created. The purpose of this Beale Street Blues is narrative
representing an unguarded moment of blacks enjoying their selves peacefully but loud enough to draw
an audience. No Easy Rider purpose is narrative also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also uses geometric shapes to display the styles of the buildings in the background. No Easy Rider
uses actual lines but more irregular lines to define to characters and the space in the background. For
example, the gentleman smoking the cigarette shoulders are slightly irregular given a more lifelike
presentation. Further use of geometrical shapes is displayed in this painting by the table, linen and
cookware. In Beale Street Blues Hayden uses vivid colors to capture the energy of Beale Street. In
contrast in No Easy Rider Hayden uses just enough light to give viewers a sort of shaded spotlight
view into the kitchen of this family reminding me of a scene in a Broadway play but without audio. I
believe that in Beale Street the vivid colors also give the painting visual texture. The visual texture
displayed gives viewers a since realness to his artwork. The characters activities in this painting give it
depth and somewhat of a rhythm. Almost like a theater play and everyone has their specific role yet
performing in unity for one purpose. The checkered floor in the Beale Street painting helps to create
depth taking the viewer eyes further in the scene. He captures the details of everyone on Beale Street
from even the women looking down from the window. The painting has conceptual unity because of
the diversity he displays in the colors. Comparing the colors used in both paintings

“the Minister’s Son in His Conceited Impotence Violates...
The minister s son in his conceited impotence violates Tess more cruelly than her sensual lover
Discuss.
In Thomas Hardy s Tess of the d Urbervilles (published in 1891), Hardy portrays his heroine, Tess, as
an innocent and poor country girl; a symbolic version of the rural women of the era who were
mercilessly down trodden in a male dominated world, and who, when abused, were blamed for it. This
novel has evoked generations of readers sympathy because of Hardy s portrayal of Tess s tragic fate
and her life journey as a victim of both individuals and the society she was born into. Since the first
publication of this novel many critics have analyzed the source of Tess tragedy and downfall.
This essay intends to analyze the novel to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This view of Tess is a stark contrast to the way in which Alec viewed Tess. To Alec Tess was seen as a
prize, his focus was physical. It was because of this that he behaved and spoke in such a sexual way
well, my big Beauty . There are moments throughout the first half of the novel however, when Alec
fancies that he would like to love Tess, but every time Tess shows that she does not love him; he does
not seem to care Tess, why do you always dislike my kissing you? I suppose because I don t love you .
Tess was not emotionally attached to Alec. Throughout their dialogue is the suggestion that Alec could
see that she would never love him you ll never love me I fear. I have said so often. It is true. I have
never really and truly loved you, and I think I never can . In opposition to the suggestion that Alec
may want to love Tess, she is continually treated as if a prize animal remember my lady, I have been
your master once I will be your master again . Tess feelings towards Angel however, were those of
intimacy, affection and love. She was prepared to give him her life I have been hoping, longing,
praying, to make you happy! I have thought what joy it will be to do it, what an unworthy wife I shall
be if I do not! That s what I have felt, Angel! ,

The American Psychological Association Defines Gender...
Gender
James Gadoury
January 12, 2015
Professor Cormier
English 101
The American Psychological Association defines gender identity as one s sense of oneself as male,
female, or transgender ( Definition of Terms: Sex, Gender, Gender Identity, Sexual Orientation 1). Our
culture greatly affects our gender identity, and this can be seen through how our media displays men,
women, and transgenders. The media is a reflection of the values that are held in American culture and
can be used to enact social reform, or to keep the same old values alive and well. In Gendered Media:
The Influence of Media on Views of Gender , Wood writes: ...media insinuate their messages into our
consciousness at every turn. All forms of media communicate images of the sexes, many of which
perpetuate unrealistic, stereotypical, and limiting perceptions. (1) This illustrates just how influential
the media can be in American culture. Many people immediately internalize everything they hear from
any source that they see as trustworthy. If the media is filled with negative gender stereotypes, then
Americans are at risk of internalizing negative gender roles. In the same journal, Woods also explains
the three main ways that media influences gender identity:
Three themes describe how media represent gender. First, women are underrepresented which falsely
implies that men are the cultural standard and women are unimportant or invisible. Second, men and
women are portrayed in stereotypical

Not Guilty In Plato s Apology In his influential dialogue Apology , Plato employs Socrates pleading not guilty to his allegations in his trial to argue that the men deemed as wise, are actually not as wise as they appear to be. Searching further into this text will reveal how Plato intended for Apology to have a deeper meaning. Alison is consistently described as an animal about to be ravaged, a piggesnye, For any lord to leggen in his bedde (Chaucer, 2012, p.268) which tells us that animals are unable to control their lust so we assume Alison is unable to. Further animal references, If she hadde been a mous, And he a cat, he wolde hire hente (Chaucer, 2012, p.269) and As any wesele hir body gent and small (Chaucer, 2012, p.267) the metaphors here turn Alison into an object that is meant to be ravaged by the men around her, rather than a person who makes her own decisions. Alison s character borrows a lot from misogynistic stereotypes about women, which are seen as liars and cheats. The interesting thing is that although she is being compared to animals, she is being compared to the animals that are attacked by predators even though when you usually describe someone as an animal it s usually very powerful and lustful such a lion and not as a mouse and weasel, almost implying that the representation of women can be either be seen as powerful or weak, in this case it depicts Alison, and more importantly the representation of women as a whole to be weak characters which are overpowered by ... But this idea is wrong. Leadership is a journey that has many ups and downs. Bill George and Peter Sims have observed three stages of leadership development: I. Giving Back: Generativity: Wisdom and Giving Back As a student, I am in Phase I of my development. This stage is all about me; getting to know myself, educating myself and gaining as much experience as possible. This is the phase where it is important to ask ourselves, what do we want to do with our lives? In Phase II, we become leaders. In this phase, we usually go through a crucible; a tough time in our lives that tests ourselves and transforms our understanding of what leadership is all about. In Phase III, leaders are serving on for profit and not for profit boards, mentoring young leaders, teaching, or coaching. They inspire and motivate others to become authentic leaders. • 16. The Importance Of Vocation In A Ray Of Darkness Former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams book A Ray of Darkness, has been influential on my own journey with call and vocation. Prior church experiences taught me that introspection and self exploration were too prideful and that it is the Christian s duty to continually pursue difficult things, in spite of aptitude. The rationale was: if it is difficult, then it must be holy. It was this very mindset that for many years, kept me from pursuing my calling. Williams book was formative in my life because he critiques the common view of vocation as a theatrical casting event, which is also how I once viewed vocation. Williams argues that the God finding us a part to play perspective of vocation is inherently problematic and leads to resentment when we do not feel we are being used 1. Rather, in quite ground breaking fashion Williams defines vocation as the call to be and exist as oneself 2. This frees us to respond to God s call within our own unique identities. This was a revolutionary thought that God wants me to be myself. Williams exposes the tendency to hide in unreality and self protection, saying that vocation is what s left when all the games have stopped. 3 Now that I am moving towards the priesthood, I am actively engaged in discovering myself and gifts that I possess. This is a unique challenge after years of living up to others expectations of how a good Christian should live. In the past, I did not give myself permission as Williams says to ... A Good Man Is Hard to Find by Flannery O’Connor Essay In the short story A Good Man Is Hard to Find, written by Flannery O Connor, the theme that the definition of a good man is mysterious and flawed is apparent. The reader must realize that it is difficult to universalize the definition of a good man because every person goes through different experiences. Thus, these experiences affect his or her viewpoint and in turn flaw ones view on a good man. O Connor conveys this theme through her excellent use of diction, imagery, foreshadowing, and symbolism as well as through a creative use of repetition and an omniscient point of view. The grandmother, the main character of the story, is manipulative. Her definition of a good man refers to the characteristics that a good man should possess. ... She [the grandmother] pointed out interesting details of the scenery: Stone Mountain, the blue granite that in some places came up to both sides of the highway; the brilliant red clay banks slightly streaked with purple; and the various crops that made row of green lace work on the ground. The trees were full of silver white sunlight and the meanest of them sparkled. (1286) She uses informal diction to help achieve the targeted theme and her slight use of a southern dialect is one brilliant component that helps her to do so. For example, when the family stops for barbecue sandwiches along their way to Tennessee, the owner s wife compliments the granddaughter. Ain t she cute? Red Sam s wife said, leaning over the counter. Would you like to come be my little girl? (1287). Adding this southern twist of diction as well as the southern setting helps to illustrate the culture the grandmother was raised in. This helps to bridge the gap between what the reader s definition of a good man may be, based off of their cultural upbringing, and the grandmother s definition of a good man. This gap reinforces the O Conner s idea that there cannot be a universal definition of a good man. Imagery is used flawlessly in this short story. (Legal service commission, 2015) The Corporations Act 2001 encompasses four principal duties that are primary to directors, including care and diligence, proper use of position, proper use of information and good faith (Australian Institute of Company Directors, 2015). This section of paper will elaborate on the four principal duties mentioned earlier along with statutory duties. Act Honestly The director should act in good faith and for the welfare of the company in proper use. The duty requires more than just a normal sense of honestly, it demands directors to implement independent judgment in light of relevant facts, views, materials when assessing for the welfare of the company. It is of chief importance that a breach of this duty involving fraud, recklessness and dishonestly could attract criminal penalties. Care and diligence The act identifies that directors are to act with a notch of overhaul and assiduousness that a sensible person might be expected to demonstrate in the role (s 180). • 23. The, Inc, The World Leader Of Innovative Casual Footwear Crocs, INC is a world leader in innovative casual footwear. The key product differentiator that Croc s offers is their use of Croslite material, a revolutionary technology that gives each pair of shoes the soft, comfortable, lightweight, non marking, slip and odor resistant qualities that Crocs consumers know and love. Founded by Scott Seamans, Lyndon Duke Hanson, and George Boedecker, Jr, Crocs was the product that resulted from a sailing trip in the Caribbean and their need for a shoe that wouldn t slip on a wet boat deck. The shoes were an immediate success, and word of mouth quickly expanded their customer base of people who spent the majority of their day standing, such as doctors and gardeners. Croc s was such a success that they went ahead with an aggressive worldwide launch campaign, early on in the company s life. CEO, Ronald Snyder, explained: The plan was, we re going to launch the world in order to get a brand out that would be a sustainable brand with this funky looking, strange product. Other, larger shoe companies, or even larger apparel companies, could have knocked us off, and could have gone into Europe before we got there if they had infrastructure in Europe. They needed to launch everywhere, almost simultaneously, in order to prevent potential threat, and create brand sustainability. 1. What are Croc s core competencies? Cloning Individualism Results May Vary: Adam Phillips s Theory of Cloning and The Paradoxical Apotheosis of Individualism Adam Phillips s essay Sameness Is All takes the form of a dialogue with two children to introduce the fantasy of cloning in which everyone is identical. Specifically, Phillips observes that cloning is a denial of difference and dependence which leads to a refusal of need (92). However, Phillip remains mindful that such fantasy of physical or psychological sameness is implausible as everyone is different even clones. One then questions the significance of such wanting of sameness, or if the sense of sameness serves any purpose. The reader sees that the Self and the Other appear to exist in an obligate symbiotic relationship, where both the Self and Other are dependent on each other for continued existence, and elucidates the reader on the interdependency of the Self and Other. After highlighting the interdependency of the Self and Other, Finkelstein uses this association between Self and Other to delineate the adverse consequences of this symbiotic relationship. By identifying the halo effect as a source of social pressure to conform, Finkelstein allows the reader to see Phillip s theory of cloning as a feasible solution to the inherent issues of social injustice and despair in this concept: DeJong and Kleck (1986:66) maintain that...the overweight not only do not have an acceptable physical appearance but are also perceived as characterologically flawed..the halo effect, which explains why attractive people are gratuitously assigned other valued attributes, can be seen to work in reverse for the overweight who are instead attributed with deficits of character. • 26. Home Schooling Is An Amazing Experience This Year Home schooling has been an amazing experience this year. 1It has helped me grow in my faith and in my knowledge of the Bible. I have so much more knowledge dealing with the Bible and I am now so much closer to God than I have ever been in my life up to this point. 2I have been more energized and excited to learn, my entire personality has taken a huge turn for the better. I am now an outgoing, bubbly girl ready to learn, that s from the inside out from the light of Jesus.3 Also, I have been able to learn much more than I than I would have in a year of public school in one home school year! I have done an extra semester in my math, I have also been on so many school trips that are all for school. 4There have been so many benefits for my family as well. We have all grown so much closer and we actually get to see each other. Another huge benefit, I have noticed, of being home schooled is, 5I don t have to worry about getting vulgar, ungodly, lessons that put down Christianity and God all day, every day and I don t have to deal with all the horrible vulgarity from students and teachers alike. I have grown in my faith, and knowledge; I have grown closer to God, family, and friends. I have gained so much knowledge about God and his word since starting home schooling in early September. Reading the Bible has become one of the subjects I am required to do every day and it has become my absolute favorite. I have read the entire book of Galatians, Philippians, ... • 27. The Censorship Of Media During Emergency Era The media is considered as fourth estate of any democratic society. We take pride as being the largest democracy in the world. Apart for the fact that we have elected form of government, it is the written constitution which makes us a powerful democracy. The same constitution provides for freedom of speech and expression in its Article 19. This constitutionally guaranteed freedom is the reason behind thriving media in our country, which has earned reputation as being one of the most fearless and influential institution in the world. After Independence, we used to have Doordarshan and All India Radio as source of news along with some independent newspapers. There were foreign broadcasters too but its reach was very limited to common masses. Most of these instruments were considered as instruments of either ideology or political party and there was no independent source of information. The censorship of media during emergency era shows that how a dictatorial government can be afraid of this forth estate and can go to any extent to curb its freedom. The era of economic reforms post 1991 saw the boost of both private print as well as audio visual media. An independent foreign observer might be surprised to see that what role does the media plays in our society. The people consider information fed to them by the media as gospel truth. The politicians, bureaucrats and elites are so afraid of media, that whenever something wrong on part of government is shown to the people, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. The Ring Of The Bell On The Door She gazed out of the café window and watched the rain make paths down the frosted glass. The steaming cup of tea warmed her freezing fingers. Everything is cold, she thought as she focused on her reflection, everything is always so damn cold. She sighed deeply, drawing the cup to her lips, the smell of bergamot pervading her senses and warming her, if only for a moment. The image of his eyes still haunted her, those intense eyes that had always pierced her soul, and the echoes of their last conversation still skulked around her head. She knew she needed to let it go and move on, but she couldn t. She loved him. And the truth of it, the fucking awful truth, was that she couldn t make him love her back. The ring of the bell on the door was a brief distraction to her depressing thoughts. His deep voice, thick with emotion as if he had recently been crying, broke through her reverie. Startled, she looked up into the same eyes that she had just been brooding on. A thrill of panic, tinged with desire, shot through her and then was gone. What do you want, Tae? she asked indifferently, breaking their focus on each other by looking away. Please... I didn t mean to hurt you last night. I m sorry, he said as he plopped down across from her, his bangs falling into his eyes. I didn t know you felt that way about me. I swear if I did I... It doesn t matter. The doctor does not desire power or management to cure a patient. Instead, a doctor needs experience, passion, and the will to decide when and how to use medical technology. In both Belkin and Slaters essays the government is seen as an obstacle to allow the doctors be in control of their own job. Government is looking for ways on how to control the people regardless if it is providing funds or not. Peoples lives should not be based on what the governments visions are . The use of medical technology should stand in the hands of the doctors with no pressure included.Neurosurgeon Rees Cosgrove stated If we do not do this right and carefully, and , you know properly... Palmer Hayden created both artworks on an oil canvas during the Harlem Renaissance period. Beale Street Blues as the title suggest is about Beale Street in Harlem, New York. No Easy Rider there is not a clear suggestion from the title. He is notorious for his depictions of everyday life or mundane activities of the African Americans. Beale Street Blues was created in 1943 and 1948 for No Easy Rider was created. No Easy Rider uses actual lines but more irregular lines to define to characters and the space in the background. For example, the gentleman smoking the cigarette shoulders are slightly irregular given a more lifelike presentation. Further use of geometrical shapes is displayed in this painting by the table, linen and cookware. In Beale Street Blues Hayden uses vivid colors to capture the energy of Beale Street. In contrast in No Easy Rider Hayden uses just enough light to give viewers a sort of shaded spotlight view into the kitchen of this family reminding me of a scene in a Broadway play but without audio. I believe that in Beale Street the vivid colors also give the painting visual texture. The visual texture displayed gives viewers a since realness to his artwork. The characters activities in this painting give it depth and somewhat of a rhythm. Almost like a theater play and everyone has their specific role yet performing in unity for one purpose. The checkered floor in the Beale Street painting helps to create depth taking the viewer eyes further in the scene. He captures the details of everyone on Beale Street from even the women looking down from the window. The painting has conceptual unity because of the diversity he displays in the colors. In Thomas Hardy s Tess of the d Urbervilles (published in 1891), Hardy portrays his heroine, Tess, as an innocent and poor country girl; a symbolic version of the rural women of the era who were mercilessly down trodden in a male dominated world, and who, when abused, were blamed for it. This novel has evoked generations of readers sympathy because of Hardy s portrayal of Tess s tragic fate and her life journey as a victim of both individuals and the society she was born into. • 32. The American Psychological Association Defines Gender... Gender James Gadoury January 12, 2015 Professor Cormier English 101 The American Psychological Association defines gender identity as one s sense of oneself as male, female, or transgender ( Definition of Terms: Sex, Gender, Gender Identity, Sexual Orientation 1). Our culture greatly affects our gender identity, and this can be seen through how our media displays men, women, and transgenders. The media is a reflection of the values that are held in American culture and can be used to enact social reform, or to keep the same old values alive and well. In Gendered Media: The Influence of Media on Views of Gender , Wood writes: ...media insinuate their messages into our consciousness at every turn. All forms of media communicate images of the sexes, many of which perpetuate unrealistic, stereotypical, and limiting perceptions. (1) This illustrates just how influential the media can be in American culture. Many people immediately internalize everything they hear from any source that they see as trustworthy. If the media is filled with negative gender stereotypes, then Americans are at risk of internalizing negative gender roles. In the same journal, Woods also explains the three main ways that media influences gender identity: Three themes describe how media represent gender. First, women are underrepresented which falsely implies that men are the cultural standard and women are unimportant or invisible. Second, men and women are portrayed in stereotypical ...
