Relationships In Disney s Snow White And The Seven...
Relationships changing in Disney In this essay I am going to compare and contrast the evolution of
relationship expectations portrayed in Disney s Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, and Frozen, and
how closely they mesh with relationship expectations of their time. The movies Snow White and
Frozen seemed like good examples because they have a lot of similarities as well as differences. In
both Disney movies the princess meets a man, but the expectations and interactions between princess
and man are vastly different. They both also have other people in their lives. Snow has the dwarves
and Ana has her sister. Their treatment of them are also vastly different. The men they fall for while
similar in some ways, seem to have different requirements, and different roles for the princess. In
Snow White the Snow and the prince meet, share one song, a kiss and are married. Terri Wright, who
wrote an article on Disney s choice of adapting Snow White talks about how, Snow White and the
Seven Dwarfs reflects popular culture of the time through its development of the romantic element
(3). When Snow White came out love was wanted in a relationships but it was not the only factor.
Woman did not work outside the home and didn t move out of their parents house unless they got
married. This is portrayed in the movie with Snow White staying at home to cook and clean up after
the dwarves until the prince comes to take her away.
In Frozen the main princess does have a similar instance of a

Analyzing Cicero s On Duties
In On Duties, Cicero argues that the moral connection between humankind should know no
boundaries. While making many arguments for this statement, the strongest point that Cicero makes
concludes that the art of speech ties all humans together and separates us from animals. In this paper, I
will argue that Cicero s view on the fellowship among the human race, is more plausible than it might
at first appear.
In order to understand his influence, you must understand Cicero s background. Cicero had a
remarkable political career during the time of the Roman Empire. Unlike most citizens during this era,
he believed in peace and unity among all humans. This was a different view than the Romans as they
fought for everything they wanted, and were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cicero believed in equality and peace, in a time where men were raised only to fight and be violent to
their neighbors. Cicero was a visionary who opened up a side to a common argument on war and
peace, that others had not thought of yet. Cicero believed that through the power of speech, we as
humans could overcome our violent primal urges and rise above our primate cousins. Cicero also
believed that through this natural connection between mankind, came moral obligations that needed to
be kept, no matter what time it was, whether it be peace or war time. To every argument ever made,
comes at least one counter argument. In order to not fall victim to the counter argument, it is important
to keep your moral compass aligned and to remember that every human was created equal. It does not
matter where you are on the developmental scale because as long as you are human you are equal to
those around you. Cicero may have found this out ahead of his time, but that does not make his
argument at all less valid. When it comes to the Just War Tradition, it is important to keep all sides
opinions in mind, as this moral agreement will be a part of every civilizations lives. No matter how
hard anyone tries to be peaceful, there will always be an enemy who refuses to settle for anything but
war. If everyone must agree to a set of rules that govern how and why each war

Computer Simulation And Computer Programming
A long time ago, when I used computer for the first time. I played a computer game called Logo in 3rd
grade, which inclined me towards computer. The first day we tried the program, we had trouble
actually moving the darned triangle on the screen. We were supposed to draw a geometric shape with
the little triangle character, which the teacher called a turtle . Movement was slow and unwieldy. We
took turns to type in step by step commands, such as rotate 90 or pen up . But the question is who was
drawing it, which fascinates me. The teacher answered it is microcomputers to draw beautiful, creative
art. The terms microcomputer, processors etc. made me crazy for computer. Few areas of my
education have stimulated me to think as much as my undergraduate courses in Discrete Structures,
Computer graphics, Neural networks, System Programming, Microprocessor, Compiler construction
and design, Artificial Intelligence, Algorithms design and analysis, Theory of Computation and
Computer Programming. Here are innovations that keep evolving not only technically but also hold
infinite scope for creativity and logic. I feel a similar sense of exhilaration when I see my own code
run successfully. It is this feeling, which till date, drives me to not give up on even the toughest of
problems. And it is this love for programming, combined with my desire to dig deeper into the
working of various applications and technologies, which propels me to apply for a Graduate Program

Hezbollah
I. PROBLEM DEFINED
Hezbollah ( Party of God ) is attempting to expand its reach in the Middle East. Expansion of this
terrorist group poses a threat to international security. Since its inception in 1982, it has been linked to
the murders of Americans, Lebanese, Europeans, and citizens of many other nations. Its expansion
efforts are under the guise of global jihad but in reality it is using terrorism to advance a radical
agenda throughout the Middle East. .
Hezbollah s intervention in the Syrian civil war is in response to what Hezbollah s leader, Sheik
Hassan Nasrallah, says is in support of Syrian President Bashar Assad in the region wide war of Sunni

Continued negotiations in an attempt to foster relations
D. Instruments of Power
Each of the Instruments of Power that can be applied in some way; however, Diplomacy would be
best suited as a starting point. Diplomatic efforts require negotiators to find a common ground from
which to seek resolution. The most recent evidence of success would be the nuclear deal between Iran
and six global powers. Not only did this dismantle Iran s nuclear program it also opened the door for
Iran to globally reestablish itself since threat of nuclear invasion has been removed.
Both economic (sanctions) and military instruments have been previously used in past against
adversaries in the region; however, should these be avoided now. There needs to be time allowed to
build trust. Given the number of destabilized counties throughout the region, it is imperative that
strategies are carefully thought out to avoid further strain on relations.

A Comparison Of Love In Hero And Claudio In Much Ado About...
Do you believe that two people who just met can really fall in love ? In the book Much Ado About
Nothing by William Shakespeare, the two main characters, Hero and Claudio, are thought to be in
love. Claudio and Hero are not actually in love because they just met, with no prior knowledge of each
other, and were easily able to move on after their marriage failed.
To start, at the beginning of the story Claudio and Hero had just met, yet they already seemed to start
catch feelings for one another. Claudio says, ... All prompting me how fair young Hero is, saying I lik

Theme Of Poison In Hamlet
Hamlet by William Shakespeare is a tragedy about the life of Hamlet after his father, the King of
Denmark, is killed. Throughout the play, there are many objects that are important to the characters
and the plot as a whole. One of the objects brought up multiple times in the text that is crucial to the
story is poison. The use of poison as a means to kill in Hamlet shows that Claudius is a coward.
In the beginning of the play, Claudius is introduced as a coward when it is revealed that he murdered
King Hamlet with poison. When the Ghost, the ghost of King Hamlet, tells Hamlet about how he was
killed, the Ghost says, Now, Hamlet, hear: / Tis given out that, sleeping in my orchard, / A serpent
stung me. / So the whole ear of Denmark / Is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His use of poison shows that he is a coward because he uses it at a means to kill without having to
confront his enemies. Additionally, the times that poison is used in the show represents something
else. The use of poison at only the beginning and end of the play can be interpreted as a circle plot.
When Claudius killed King Hamlet at the beginning of the show, he starts a new era in Denmark, and
when Hamlet, Gertrude, and Claudius, and Laertes are all killed by poison at the end of the novel,
creating another new era in

The Teachings Of Phaedrus And Alcibiades
Phaedrus, an aristocrat, takes the stage first at the symposium. He explains that Erƍs is one of the
primordial gods, and that the love between a boy and a lover is the greatest love that exists. The lover
is meant to guide the boy, and the two must lead each other to examine themselves and feel ashamed.
...[The boy] is especially ashamed before his lover when he is caught in something shameful (Sym.
178E). Phaedrus later adds that ...Love is...the most powerful in helping men gain virtue and
blessedness... (Sym. 180B). Alcibiades is the perfect example of shame when he speaks about
Socrates. He says that Socrates is the only man in the world who has made [him] feel shame... (Sym.

Alcibiades proves what Pausanias has said about Heavenly Love it s an attachment to the soul and
intelligence of a man, which Alcibiades feels toward Socrates. Eryximachus, a doctor, builds on
Pausanias speech. He says that Heavenly Love and those who feel it ...must be encouraged and
protected (Sym. 187D). Alcibiades encourages his own Heavenly Love for Socrates by praising
Socrates himself. He devotes his entire speech to the philosopher s image. There is not much else to
compare between Eryximachus and Alcibiades because Eryximachus simply adds to what Pausanias
has already stated. Aristophanes is a playwright who s eager to take a different approach to the origins
of erƍs. He says that humans were once great beings with four arms, four legs, two faces and two sets
of sexual organs. There were male, female and androgynous beings, which were both male and
female. They became prideful and planned to ascend to the heavens and attack the gods. The gods
couldn t kill the humans because then no one would worship them. Zeus instead opts to cut the human
beings in two and asks Apollo to smooth out their edges. This decision created unforeseen
consequences. ...Each [human] longed for its own other half, and so they would throw themselves
together, wanting to grow together. In that condition they would die from hunger and general idleness,

The Between Socialism And Communism
As the cultural Marxist ideology used by liberals in the United States today originates from Europe,
understanding what politicians represent will go some way to avoiding further American decline, the
slide into a police state and the belief that Obama is a Messiah.
The coming 2016 election is arguably the most important ever held. Consequences from the results
decide the future of the United States and in which direction it will shift, towards European liberal
fascism and equality based Human Rights, alternatively, a return to the constitution.
Not understanding leads to an inability to explain the difference between socialism and communism,
or equality as an abstract. The well fed social justice warriors of today have replaced the poverty class
revolutionaries of yesteryear, with cultural Marxism, explained in an American context. The aims
remain radical and utopic, as do the politicians behind the agenda.
Failure to understand European ideologies is why Bernie Sanders, posing as a Democrat, but a lifelong
Maoist, can pass himself off as a socialist in the Democrat party. The disguise is what allows former
Alinsky radical, Hillary Clinton, a multimillionaire progressive, to run as a Democrat.
The key to understanding ideologies therefore, lies in viewing politics as circular, not linear, with the
centre at the top and the right and left of extremism meeting at the bottom. The choice is the Gestapo
or KGB, concentration camps or slave labour camps and all ending without

The impact of world war one on the homefront
The First World War impacted significantly on the homefronts of the participating nations in many
different social, political and economic areas. There was a widespread restructuring of primary
industry with a large orientation towards militarism. There was massive political change where new
systems of power were introduced that gave governments a range of new powers including the control
over industry. The civilian population had severe restrictions placed upon their rights and liberties due
to the necessities that total war required.
The scale of the war forced all sectors of society to change and adapt to the growing scale of the war.
In 1914 the British government believed that the war would be a brief one and as a result there was ...

This was not helped by the lack of attention paid to agriculture by the German government and the
destroyed crops of 1915 1916. Mortality rates for children rose along with those of adults and elderly
citizens. This starvation and poor living conditions led to the general disdain for the war but due to the
terrible losses and casualties already suffered it was thought that only victory would suffice to
somewhat offset these hardships.
Despite the massive arms stockpile that had been amassed by both sides of the conflict both sides ran
short and had to drastically increase their workforce and number of hours that they worked. In Britain
this was achieved by the formation of a three party coalition that has elements working to find
solutions to this problem. The shortage of workers was largely due to the lack of men in the workforce
as they were almost all enlisted in the army as soldiers. The deficit grew as the war went on when
more and more men were conscripted and enlisted. A new workforce was needed to work in the jobs
that they filled. Female workers largely filled a massive amount of these positions with a smaller
number of prisoners of war doing farming work. For the first time women worked in large numbers in
industrial factories, producing weapons and munitions for the men on the front lines. They often
worked in difficult and dangerous conditions

A Proposal Of Your E Commerce Strategy
The proposal
Part I:

promote their e commerce system, taking into account:
You must consider their target audience and what could be done to increase their clientele.
What are the different ways in which PlayDays can use to promote their online e commerce system?
The site structure:
Customer interface eg ease of use, display of products, personal details entry, credit card entry, other
types of payment, delivery details; image; style
In order for my client PlayDays to promote themselves in the most effective way possible, it is
important that they should focus on the appearance of the UI (User Interface) of the website as this
may arguably be the most important area to worry about when a customer is accessing the e commerce
website. If PlayDays has an unprofessional UI for the customers to use, this may be too unattractive or
difficult to navigate which could consequently mean losing out on sales or even causing somewhat
damage to the reputation of the business as unprofessionalism will lead to customers to lose trust
which would surely do more harm than good. Therefore, by putting in the time and effort in the
structure of the site in terms of layout and ease of use for users, this may lead to positive word of

market.

The Destructiveness Of The Slave Trade
ATIENZA, Rizsa Mae 03 October 2015 Fall 2015 HIST 177 Primary Document Analysis The
Destructiveness of the Slave Trade Olaudah Equiano begins the narrative by describing his home. He
paints for his audience a charming, very fruitful picture of his province Essaka. It was a place where
all the neighborhood children would come together and play whilst their parents were away laboring
in the fields. He recalls being taught by his mother how to defend himself. They would practice
shooting and throwing javelins all the ways of their greatest warriors. It was to his utter dismay
however; that he would never again be able to relive those moments, for he and his sister had been
captured. He stated that an end was put to his happiness the day they were kidnapped. He goes on to
speak of the days following the abduction, and how he and his sister tried to resist and break free but
to no avail. The little comfort they found was in each other, but it was not long before they too were
forced to separate. Olaudah s narrative shines light on the resistance of many African captives while
sharing his very own experience and the resentment he felt towards the hostile and desensitizing slave
trade. Early in the passage Olaudah makes a comparison of his people to the Jews. He lists the
similarities in their cultural practices, such as: circumcision, feasting, and the naming of their children
after special events or circumstances. His purpose in doing this was to legitimize his people by

Theories Of Brutality And Horrors Of World War I
Following the brutality and horrors of World War I, people began to question their traditional beliefs.
New answers to the world s questions came from scientific developments, women, literature, and art.
Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freud were revolutionary scientists in the 20th century. Einstein, a
German physicist, proposed the idea that space and time are in fact not constant (though the speed of
light is). He came up with his theory of relativity that created uncertainty and replaced Isaac Newton s
belief that the world was governed by absolute laws of motion and gravity. Sigmund Freud, an
Austrian physician, developed a theory about the human mind based on his experience with patients
with psychological problems. Freud believed that the mind has an irrational component, which he
called the unconscious, that has a number of drives of which the conscious mind is unaware. Other
scientists also developed new technologies during and after the war, particularly in the medical and
technological fields. Automobiles skyrocketed in popularity, airplanes became increasingly successful,
and radios and movies dominated entertainment. New ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The war created disillusion, and many people became fearful and doubtful of their futures and
religions. Numerous writers expressed their worries about the present and the future, including an
American poet named T. S. Eliot and Irish poet William Butler Yeats. Other writers, such as Czech
born author Franz Kafka, wrote eerie novels reflective of the uneasy societal attitudes. Kafka s books
featured characters caught in dangerous situations beyond their understanding and impossible to
escape. Irish born James Joyce s writings were a representation of Freud s theories about the
unconscious, as he wrote his novel Ulysses that breaks from typical sentence structure and attempts to
mirror the workings of the human

The Modernist Movement And The International Style Movement
Throughout the Villa Dall ava, 1991, Rem Koolhaas ideologies have been deconstructed,
reconstructed and reproduced such as it complies with Le Corbusier s five ideas of modernism, where
it employs the use of pilotes , roof terrace, the open floor plan, the free façade and the horizontal
window to his design. These major elements are key to the modernist movement and the international
style movement. Rem Koolhaas has made conflict with these key ideas such as the slanted columns as
Le Corbusier s idea was to use simple forms discussed by the early modernist. In a sense it holds these
elements of deconstruction such an alien form within it design.
Le Corbusier s Villa Savoye, 1929, has very similar links to the Villa Dall ava as Rem Koolhaas and
his client wanted the Villa Dall ava to be a modern version of the Villa Savoye. These links are
obvious as they are the five points of architecture which Le Corbusier had set as his architectural
principles. They consist of pilotis, free designing of the ground plan, free design of the façade, the
horizontal windows and a roof garden. One main connection that sticks out is the pilotis as Le
Courbusier had used it as geometric lines around the Villa Savoye, Rem Koolhaas had used pilotis
with his own alien twist on them swaying them off center, putting them where ever need be.
Koolhaas s own architecture, it need hardly be said, does nothing of the kind. And yet Koolhaas s
modernism, brilliantly inventive, nonetheless does not

Personal Statement On Sexual Orientation
In taking answering the questions to the Personal Autobiography on Sexual Orientation, I was able to
reflect upon my life up to now as being a gay male from the Midwest. My first memories about really
being exposed to sexual orientation would have to have been back in elementary school where sexual
orientation was introduced by peers more or less as a name calling, playground name calling sort of
thing I was introduced to sexual orientation in a negative way. In terms of my parents, I would say the
messages from there were positive as my grandma has a brother who is gay and has been out since the
1980s, so they have gone through the process of acceptance of LGBTQ individuals. When I look at
sexuality and my peers, I would say in middle and high school the messages were mixed. Negative
messages were how LGBTQ individuals were treated if it was known they were of whichever letter in
the alphabet, but also the negative messages came in the often heard usage of the word faggot to insult
someone. To me, my peers then were exercising this idea of cultural destructiveness, or where they
felt they (heterosexual) were the most superior sexual orientation compared to others. I would say the
faculty at school when this would occur was more or less culturally blind, or they felt as though the
sexual orientation of a student should not matter; however, I felt as though the faculty maybe didn t
understand the struggles an LGBTQ person goes through and how painful hearing

Implementation of a Management Production Schedule for...
Realco Breadmaster Company It is very important for a business to have a master production schedule
because it enables companies to determine whether or not it is meeting the demands of production.
Businesses without a master production schedule are at a huge disadvantage compared to businesses
that do have a MPS. For example, a business can have many products in stock but can miss out on its
profits due to the holding cost. Not having a MPS can cause businesses to lack in supply which can
result into customers receiving their products very late. A company known as the Realco Breadmaster
Company has experienced what it is like to be in business without a MPS. Johnny Chang, the owner
of the Realco Breadmaster Company, would like to adopt a MPS for Realco so that the company can

The 1960 s in the United States Essay
The 1960 s in the United States
To some people the 1960s were the best of times, to others it was a period where many things went
wrong in society. Why do people have such different ideas about the 1960s?
Many people who lived through the 60s decade feel it was revolutionary; a swinging period after years
of austerity and gloom with the young people commanding the army of change.
This view however, has been challenged. Some think that the 60s have a misguided view. Instead of
the sixties transforming life for the better, it actually made life worse.
For young people during the sixties, life had freedom and freedom had opportunities. Education
became more efficient and opportunistic, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whilst there were big achievements nationally and internationally like England winning the world cup
and man landing on the moon, there were also damaging political events. The building of the Berlin
wall officially began a cold war between superpowers, which left the world with anticipation of not
knowing what was going to happen. The Cuban Missile Crisis threatened nuclear war. In America,
there was the assassination of President Kennedy and the Vietnam War. Both were destructive and sad
events. Locally in England, there was the profumo affair where a British politician had an affair with a
Russian who was considered an enemy because of the cold war. This struck chaos into political values
in England.
During the sixties, there were many changes to the legal system in England. The death penalty became
abolished. Many people thought this would encourage crime and make the legal system look weak.
This was a debated decision as was the legalisation of abortion. Some thought and still think that
abortion is killing a living creature and therefore, it is murder. Others believe abortion should be
allowed to prevent unwanted pregnancy. Even nowadays, both decisions are countered.
In the 1960s, Homosexuality was legalised. As the numbers of homosexuals increased, this decision

Lolo Loarlo Analysis
Sexuality plays a significant role in the novel. Be it Oscars inability to have sex, Yunior, the narrators,
constant search for a woman, the sexual abuse that Lola is victim of as a child or the constant
sexualization of Beli as a teen. In these cases, when analyzed, the reader can see that the treatment or,
mistreatment of these cases, is often transgenerational. Starting with Lola, the sexual abuse she
experienced was at a very young age, and when she tells her mother about it, she is told that she must
never speak of it again. This shame that comes with sexual abuse is often repressed by families and
victims alike. Lola refers to repressed memory as within a year I couldn t have told you what that
neighbor looked like, or even his name (Diaz 56). The way that Lola was sexualized at such an early
age, is the same way the she was sexualized on the streets of Santo Domingo as a teen. Yet, Beli does
not recognize these similarities. Often, young victims often feel a sense of blame because of the shame
that is felt by their families. The sexualization of young girl is not seen a major problem, that is
because woman in the novel are disposable. It does not matter if it the dominate Raffaele Trujillo, or
the weak Oscar Wao, they all see women as the next conquest, not matter how it is romanticized.
Beli is sadly seen as mostly a sex object. She never experienced true love. In fact, even many of the
descriptions in the novel explain men either trying or wanting to hit on her.

Confucius s A Perfect Government
A perfect government does not exist in this world, but a just one is always welcomed. The literary
work Analects by Confucius shows the perspective of a philosopher and his version of an ideal China.
Confucius is a philosopher that wrote his philosophy based on the world that surrounds him, and
influence from the Zhou dynasty. One of the major subjects Confucianism addresses is China s
politics and government during Confucius s time. Confucius tries to offer solutions through his
philosophy to better China and its people. Confucius s Analects is a critique of the dire rulers and
China s government, and tries to provide solutions to better China.
Confucius lived in China during the Spring and Autumn period, which is 571 449 BCE. During this
period China s government and its rulers were corrupt, and because of this Confucius s philosophy
heavily revolves at trying to fix the current problem his society faces by trying to issue solutions
within his philosophy. One of the major themes that Confucius always goes back to when talking
about how China can become better is to go back to tradition. Tradition to Confucius meant not
following mystical entities or abstract ideas, but to follow a simple system like the times of early
China. Confucius thinks that the emperors such as Yao and Shun are examples of great leaders of the
past, and the current government should follow their example (Christian Violatti, cited in Ancient
History Encyclopedia 2013). These rulers ruled without

Review Of Sean Covey s Seven Habits Of Highly Effective Teens
Do you remember struggling in school? In your relationships with others? With yourself? Do you
remember how hard it was to be a teenager? If only there was some sort of instruction manual or
guide. Well, Sean Covey attempted to write one such book, drawing information from his father s
book and directing it towards the teenager. The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens offers great
advice for teenagers wanting to have more peace and control over their lives.
One of the most helpful advice Sean gives is to focus on your Personal Bank Account (PBA). This
idea coincides with the sharpen the saw habit, even though Sean introduces the PBA at the beginning
of the book rather than with the seventh habit. It s important that the information of a PBA is at the
beginning because we must first win the private victory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He called it the Relationship Bank Account (RBA). Some of the things Sean suggests to making
deposits into your RBA is keeping promises, doing small acts of kindness, being loyal, listening, and
setting clear expectations. It s important to note that many of these things are also on the PBA list.
Building others also builds yourself. Sean gave the example of the two seas in Palestine. It s an
excerpt from Bruce Barton s The Man Nobody Knows. This excerpt describes how full of life and joy
the Sea of Galilee is compared to the poisoned Dead Sea. Both of these seas are fed by the River
Jordan, but the Sea of Galilee is also as an outlet; it gives whereas the Dead sea only receives. Barton
compares this to people and how giving will benefit others as well as yourself, yet there is no reward
for being selfish. I always try to give as much as I can. I love Mother Teresa s quote, Let no one ever
come to you without leaving better and happier. It inspired me to take Sean s advice about RBA more
seriously and do everything I could to be a light in other people s

Masculinity In The Sun Also Rises By Ernest Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway s classic historical fiction novel The Sun Also Rises comprises an eventful
timeline: bullfighting, fishing trips, male friendship, disguised alcoholism, and the differences
between femininity and masculinity and how they overlap. . His 1926 novel about members of an
expatriate friend group and one pivotal fiesta in Spain portrays a story rife with unrequited love,
symbolism, and metaphors for the Lost Generation in Europe. However, the way Hemingway focuses
on masculinity and femininity interplaying with each other and contrasts the effects of the two on all
characters and story stands out to the audience. Most of the feminine aura in the novel doesn t even
come from women. In general, Hemingway does not involve women much in his novels. Notably, the
first woman, Frances, introduced in the book is immediately made into an unsympathetic hag like
devil wife who berates and verbally abuses Robert Cohn, her unwilling husband. After a certain
amount of time, her character is written out of the novel as she vaguely le[aves] for England
(Hemingway 77). Lady Brett Ashley, the main woman of the novel, does not exude femininity either,
with her boyish haircut and mannerisms. Even though she is married to a Lord, literally making her a
Lady, she bends the early 20th centuries rules for the genders and is in fact only mentioned by her title
about a dozen times in the novel; the occasional reminder to the audience that despite her erratic and
impulsive behavior, she

A Study On Water Creek Reservoir
Prairie Creek Reservoir, located in an agricultural water in east central Indiana, serves as a secondary
drinking water supply for Muncie, IN and offers various recreational activities. Monitoring of the
streams and knowledge of its water quality is very limited. This study assessed water quality at five
major tributaries and outfall to support future management decisions. Keywords. Eutrophication,
nutrients, monitoring, streams, reservoir INTRODUCTION In 2014, 43% of all U.S. lakes and
reservoirs were classified as impaired due to not fulfilling one or more designated uses; nutrients and
agriculture were the primary factor and source causing impairments (U.S. EPA 2014). Commercial
fertilizers designed to increase crop productivity can promote biological productivity in waters
draining agricultural lands; fertilizers contribute nearly 57,000 tons of total nitrogen into the White
River per year (Martin, 1996; Popovičová 2008). The continuous supply of nutrients to a water body
can produce algal blooms, intense growth of macrophytes that can lead to dissolved oxygen depletion,
and stress on aquatic environments (Dodds and Welch 2000; U.S. EPA 2002, 2012; SĂžndergaard et al.
2003; USGS 2013, 2014). Eutrophication can adversely influence recreation, drinking water supply,
industrial uses, and fisheries due to objectionable appeal, fish kills, influx of sedimentation, taste and
odor of drinking water, and increased prices in drinking water treatment (Walker 1983; Carpenter,

Nationalist Movements of the Middle East and South Asia...
The years after World War One brought about vast changes to many parts of the world. Places like
South Asia and the Middle East were able to see the need for self government away from foreign
control. This sparked a number of nationalist movements during the 1920 s and 1930 s. The Middle
East had to Westernize to rid foreign control while India had to be united under non violence and
Hindu values.
Before WW1, the Middle East was dominated by outside powers. Egypt was under British control and
Persia was divided in to Russian and British spheres of influence. The Ottomans tried to promote
change with the Tanzimat reforms which allowed some industrialization and modernization. However,
in 1908, the Young Turks took over and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led to scarce food supplies, forced labor, and mistreatment of the peasantry, so Egypt was ready
for a revolt at the end of the war. The Egyptian nationalist elites decided to form a Wafd (meaning
delegation in Arabic) party under the leader Sa d Zaghlul that rid the British in 1936 from the Suez
Canal. However, they did very little to alleviate the misery of the majority. Rather, Egyptian
politicians held office just to increase their own family fortune and had no time for land reforms and
public works projects that the peasantry desperately needed. Thus, the Egytian revolution led to
backwardness. The peasantry of India similarly suffered during WW1. India was controlled by the
British who pushed the peasantry for cash crops such as cotton (muslin), jute, and indigo. India s
budget was used for the expenses of the British army and the salaries/pensions of British
administrators. Many Indians died on the battlefield for a conflict that had little to do with them. War
led to inflation which affected all parts of society. Peasants were angered about set prices on market
goods despite the rising cost. People were unable to sell what they produced due to shipping
shortages. The meager wages of laborers dropped while prices increased. Only bosses grew rich from
profits earned in war production. Many commoners suffered from epidemics and starvation. At the

A View From The Bridge Sympathy
In the play A View from the Bridge Miller gives us many reasons to sympathise with the character of
Eddie. He is someone who ultimately dies at the end of the play and is presented as a fallen hero in
this Greek style tragedy. As the scenes progress, we discover that his feeling for Catherine are more
than merely paternal love. Despite this, Miller provides us with reasons to still be somewhat be
sympathetic towards him. One way in which Miller makes us feel sympathy towards Eddie, is through
his kind behaviour which is shown in Act One. When Catherine s mother died, he adopted her, Eddie
says I struggled for that girl . This quotation shows that not only did Eddie look after Catherine, he
also wanted the best for her. The verb choice struggled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the play Alfieri is the chorus and someone we can trust. On page 15 he says he was a good
man as he had to be in a life that was hard and even. He worked on the piers when there was work, he
brought home his pay and lived. This quotation is early on in the play, and gives us the impression that
Eddie is a simple character but despite this Alfieri still seems to respect him. This means that before
we have discovered for ourselves the characteristics of him, Miller has used the tool of Alfieri to
influence our judgement. The adjective good suggests that Miller wanted us to believe that Eddie isn t
a character we should feel no sympathy towards. This can be seen once again at the end of the play
when Alfieri tells us that I will morn him. This is said in the closing speech in the play, so holds a
weighty significance. The verb choice Morn tells us that Miller wanted our last thoughts about Eddie
not to be completely negative. Miller creates Alfieri as a character who s judgement the reader can
trust, and so we are inclined to feel some sympathy towards Eddie as we see that Alfieri does. In this
way Miller uses the character of Alfieri to ensure that some sympathy will always be felt towards

The Valuation And Commodification Of Ecosystem Services
The Valuation and commodification of Ecosystem Services
Ecosystems in our world act as vital and fundamental sections to maintain health, living, well being
and survival of human beings and other creatures (Robert Costanza et al, 1997; Millennium
Ecosystem Assessment (MEA), 2005; TEEB Foundations, 2010; TEEB Synthesis, 2010). They
provide different kinds of service, such as production of goods, life support processes, and life
fulfilling conditions (Gretchen C. ,2000). Ecosystem significantly contributes to both economic and
non economic value of our planet, but when compared to market efficiency, it seems to be paid less
attention when involved in decision making. In the majority of the ongoing projects that have
numerous debates on, it seems common for people put a price tag on ecosystem services and evaluate
them by means of commodification. When the immediate or intuitionistic benefits fail to be derived, it
is less likely for ecosystems to be protected or reserved. Therefore, the importance of ecosystem
services is often poorly appreciated and only to be seen when facing severe problems. People are less
likely to come up with solutions to protect the ecosystems of their own will than to make a better trade
to exchange ecosystem services for money. Also, it is quite often to fail to define the difference
between valuation and privatisation , considering ecosystem services more of tradable products than a
part of nature system. It is often overlooked that the market

Philip Zimbardo s The Lucifer Effect
The Lucifer Effect
In The Lucifer Effect, Philip Zimbardo asks, What happens when good people are put into an evil
place? Do they triumph or does the situation dominate their past history and morality? The questions,
ideas, and underlying psychology that Zimbardo covers in this novel relate to our AP Psychology class
in great amounts. The book talks about an experiment we discussed in class, social psychology, and
how certain situations can affect an individual s personality. First, this book includes a full and
detailed storyline of the infamous Stanford Prison Experiment. We watched a section of this
experiment when learning about ethics in experimentation. It is obvious that this certain experiment

The theory is that people are not inherently evil, but can easily become evil if put in the right situation
and if the operation of the situation allows it. This relates to the fundamental attribution error that we
discussed in class. Many people do not think of how much the situation of an event plays into what
happened. They rely too heavily on personality. Therefor, if someone acts cruelty, they are just a cruel
person. However, that may not necessarily be the case. Zimbardo uses Abu Ghraib as a perfect
example of this. The soldiers that heinous acts or torture were previously seen as good eggs. They
were not bad people. However, a situation arose where they received power, and the operation that
allowed them to have that power also let it become corrupt. This is also shown in the Stanford Prison
Experiment. When given the role of a prison guard, an individual must think of how a guard would
act. They then try to act accordingly, even if this may cause cognitive dissonance. They saw the
situation and decided that they needed to be dominate and authoritative. As was seen however, this can
quickly get out of hand. At Stanford, the students go from insults to torture as Zimbardo describes.
Anonymity also plays a lead role in these situations. If a person is in a situation where they are
anonymous, their actions could very well

how child abuse and neglect affects children, perhaps it if worth looking into the definition of child
abuse and the social factors attached to it. The main objective of child abuse is to course harm. But
child abuse has a host of other factors attached to it Child abuse is also related to substance abuse.
Parents involved in substance abuse are more likely to abuse their children than parents who do not
abuse substances.
Although the agency pushes for legal charges against adults who involve in child abuse, the agency
usually goes beyond the charges. In ach and very case that is reported, the agency attempts to
understand the underlying factors of the abuse. The agency has realized that parents who abused
alcohol where for times more likely to abuse their children than the parents who did not abuse alcohol.
In such cases, most instances of abuse occurred when the parents were intoxicated. Further, substance

The Central Problem Of Depression Prevention
In 2003, Robert Lucas an esteemed professor at the university of Chicago and winner of the 1995
Nobel memorial prize in economics gave the presidential address at the annual meetings of the
American Economics Association. The central problem of depression prevention , he declared, Has
been solved for all practical purposes . He asserted that macro economics had not so much
extinguished the cycle of recession but had some what tamed it, it was now time to focus on long term
economic growth. (Krugman:2008)

What investors and officials believed to be the storm in entitreity was merely a false alarm, the
catalyst for what would follow less than a decade later. Between April 1997 and June 2003, the
Dot.com bubble was witnessed, where a series of investors contributed to technology services and
internet start up companies in anticipation of a success which was not entirely delivered.
(WWW.businessinsider.com) After the bubble had burst, the American and global economy appeared
like it would endure a period of stability under the speculation of many senior economist, following

The federal reserve and Robert Greenspan contributed to the craze, a response to the prior dot.com

Bullying And Its Effects On The Workplace
Bullying is becoming more and more prevalent in today s society. It is most commonly thought to be
found in schools or online, but it is becoming increasing popular in the workplace. Organizations must
establish anti bullying policies to stop this detrimental behavior. Targets of workplace bullying often
suffer from a multitude of health problems such as depression and anxiety. In this paper, we will
examine the reasons why bullying has become so common in the workplace, the damaging effects,
and what can be done to help stop this behavior. Bullying should be considered as a problem for the
entire organization, not just an issue for the target. According to the Workplace Bullying Institute
(WBI), workplace bullying is repeated, health harming mistreatment of one or more persons (the
targets) by one or more perpetrators (WBI, 2015). Bullying can come in many forms including
abusive conduct that is threatening, humiliating, or intimidating. Along with the verbal abuse, there
can be sabotage, or work interference that impacts work performance. The WBI states that 35% of the
workforce in the United States have been bullied. This equals 1 in 3 workers who have been
victimized. As a result of this staggering statistic, organizations must address this problem. This paper
will expose the traumatic effects of bullying, and will show interventions and recommendations for a
solution to this growing social injustice. Bullying, or mobbing, was first researched by Dr.

in an age of information and an increasing need for automation in every aspect of everyday life. Is
technology ruining our since of face to face communication? New advancements in instant messaging

  • 3. Relationships In Disney s Snow White And The Seven... Relationships changing in Disney In this essay I am going to compare and contrast the evolution of relationship expectations portrayed in Disney s Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, and Frozen, and how closely they mesh with relationship expectations of their time. The movies Snow White and Frozen seemed like good examples because they have a lot of similarities as well as differences. In both Disney movies the princess meets a man, but the expectations and interactions between princess and man are vastly different. They both also have other people in their lives. Snow has the dwarves and Ana has her sister. Their treatment of them are also vastly different. The men they fall for while similar in some ways, seem to have different requirements, and different roles for the princess. In Snow White the Snow and the prince meet, share one song, a kiss and are married. Terri Wright, who wrote an article on Disney s choice of adapting Snow White talks about how, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs reflects popular culture of the time through its development of the romantic element (3). When Snow White came out love was wanted in a relationships but it was not the only factor. Woman did not work outside the home and didn t move out of their parents house unless they got married. This is portrayed in the movie with Snow White staying at home to cook and clean up after the dwarves until the prince comes to take her away. In Frozen the main princess does have a similar instance of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analyzing Cicero s On Duties In On Duties, Cicero argues that the moral connection between humankind should know no boundaries. While making many arguments for this statement, the strongest point that Cicero makes concludes that the art of speech ties all humans together and separates us from animals. In this paper, I will argue that Cicero s view on the fellowship among the human race, is more plausible than it might at first appear. In order to understand his influence, you must understand Cicero s background. Cicero had a remarkable political career during the time of the Roman Empire. Unlike most citizens during this era, he believed in peace and unity among all humans. This was a different view than the Romans as they fought for everything they wanted, and were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cicero believed in equality and peace, in a time where men were raised only to fight and be violent to their neighbors. Cicero was a visionary who opened up a side to a common argument on war and peace, that others had not thought of yet. Cicero believed that through the power of speech, we as humans could overcome our violent primal urges and rise above our primate cousins. Cicero also believed that through this natural connection between mankind, came moral obligations that needed to be kept, no matter what time it was, whether it be peace or war time. To every argument ever made, comes at least one counter argument. In order to not fall victim to the counter argument, it is important to keep your moral compass aligned and to remember that every human was created equal. It does not matter where you are on the developmental scale because as long as you are human you are equal to those around you. Cicero may have found this out ahead of his time, but that does not make his argument at all less valid. When it comes to the Just War Tradition, it is important to keep all sides opinions in mind, as this moral agreement will be a part of every civilizations lives. No matter how hard anyone tries to be peaceful, there will always be an enemy who refuses to settle for anything but war. If everyone must agree to a set of rules that govern how and why each war ... The first day we tried the program, we had trouble actually moving the darned triangle on the screen. We were supposed to draw a geometric shape with the little triangle character, which the teacher called a turtle . Movement was slow and unwieldy. We took turns to type in step by step commands, such as rotate 90 or pen up . But the question is who was drawing it, which fascinates me. The teacher answered it is microcomputers to draw beautiful, creative art. The terms microcomputer, processors etc. made me crazy for computer. Few areas of my education have stimulated me to think as much as my undergraduate courses in Discrete Structures, Computer graphics, Neural networks, System Programming, Microprocessor, Compiler construction and design, Artificial Intelligence, Algorithms design and analysis, Theory of Computation and Computer Programming. Here are innovations that keep evolving not only technically but also hold infinite scope for creativity and logic. I feel a similar sense of exhilaration when I see my own code run successfully. It is this feeling, which till date, drives me to not give up on even the toughest of problems. And it is this love for programming, combined with my desire to dig deeper into the working of various applications and technologies, which propels me to apply for a Graduate Program in computer ... Throughout the play, there are many objects that are important to the characters and the plot as a whole. • 12. The Between Socialism And Communism As the cultural Marxist ideology used by liberals in the United States today originates from Europe, understanding what politicians represent will go some way to avoiding further American decline, the slide into a police state and the belief that Obama is a Messiah. The coming 2016 election is arguably the most important ever held. Consequences from the results decide the future of the United States and in which direction it will shift, towards European liberal fascism and equality based Human Rights, alternatively, a return to the constitution. Not understanding leads to an inability to explain the difference between socialism and communism, or equality as an abstract. The well fed social justice warriors of today have replaced the poverty class revolutionaries of yesteryear, with cultural Marxism, explained in an American context. The aims remain radical and utopic, as do the politicians behind the agenda. Failure to understand European ideologies is why Bernie Sanders, posing as a Democrat, but a lifelong Maoist, can pass himself off as a socialist in the Democrat party. The disguise is what allows former Alinsky radical, Hillary Clinton, a multimillionaire progressive, to run as a Democrat. The key to understanding ideologies therefore, lies in viewing politics as circular, not linear, with the centre at the top and the right and left of extremism meeting at the bottom. Mortality rates for children rose along with those of adults and elderly citizens. Despite the massive arms stockpile that had been amassed by both sides of the conflict both sides ran short and had to drastically increase their workforce and number of hours that they worked. In Britain this was achieved by the formation of a three party coalition that has elements working to find solutions to this problem. The shortage of workers was largely due to the lack of men in the workforce as they were almost all enlisted in the army as soldiers. The deficit grew as the war went on when more and more men were conscripted and enlisted. A new workforce was needed to work in the jobs that they filled. Female workers largely filled a massive amount of these positions with a smaller number of prisoners of war doing farming work. The site structure: Customer interface eg ease of use, display of products, personal details entry, credit card entry, other types of payment, delivery details; image; style In order for my client PlayDays to promote themselves in the most effective way possible, it is important that they should focus on the appearance of the UI (User Interface) of the website as this may arguably be the most important area to worry about when a customer is accessing the e commerce website. If PlayDays has an unprofessional UI for the customers to use, this may be too unattractive or difficult to navigate which could consequently mean losing out on sales or even causing somewhat damage to the reputation of the business as unprofessionalism will lead to customers to lose trust which would surely do more harm than good. • 20. The Destructiveness Of The Slave Trade ATIENZA, Rizsa Mae 03 October 2015 Fall 2015 HIST 177 Primary Document Analysis The Destructiveness of the Slave Trade Olaudah Equiano begins the narrative by describing his home. He paints for his audience a charming, very fruitful picture of his province Essaka. It was a place where all the neighborhood children would come together and play whilst their parents were away laboring in the fields. He recalls being taught by his mother how to defend himself. They would practice shooting and throwing javelins all the ways of their greatest warriors. It was to his utter dismay however; that he would never again be able to relive those moments, for he and his sister had been captured. He stated that an end was put to his happiness the day they were kidnapped. He goes on to speak of the days following the abduction, and how he and his sister tried to resist and break free but to no avail. The little comfort they found was in each other, but it was not long before they too were forced to separate. Olaudah s narrative shines light on the resistance of many African captives while sharing his very own experience and the resentment he felt towards the hostile and desensitizing slave trade. Early in the passage Olaudah makes a comparison of his people to the Jews. He lists the similarities in their cultural practices, such as: circumcision, feasting, and the naming of their children after special events or circumstances. His purpose in doing this was to legitimize his people by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

New answers to the world s questions came from scientific developments, women, literature, and art. Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freud were revolutionary scientists in the 20th century. Einstein, a German physicist, proposed the idea that space and time are in fact not constant (though the speed of light is). He came up with his theory of relativity that created uncertainty and replaced Isaac Newton s belief that the world was governed by absolute laws of motion and gravity. Sigmund Freud, an Austrian physician, developed a theory about the human mind based on his experience with patients with psychological problems. Freud believed that the mind has an irrational component, which he called the unconscious, that has a number of drives of which the conscious mind is unaware. Other scientists also developed new technologies during and after the war, particularly in the medical and technological fields. The Modernist Movement And The International Style Movement Throughout the Villa Dall ava, 1991, Rem Koolhaas ideologies have been deconstructed, reconstructed and reproduced such as it complies with Le Corbusier s five ideas of modernism, where it employs the use of pilotes , roof terrace, the open floor plan, the free façade and the horizontal window to his design. These major elements are key to the modernist movement and the international style movement. Rem Koolhaas has made conflict with these key ideas such as the slanted columns as Le Corbusier s idea was to use simple forms discussed by the early modernist. In a sense it holds these elements of deconstruction such an alien form within it design. Le Corbusier s Villa Savoye, 1929, has very similar links to the Villa Dall ava as Rem Koolhaas and his client wanted the Villa Dall ava to be a modern version of the Villa Savoye. These links are obvious as they are the five points of architecture which Le Corbusier had set as his architectural principles. They consist of pilotis, free designing of the ground plan, free design of the façade, the horizontal windows and a roof garden. One main connection that sticks out is the pilotis as Le Courbusier had used it as geometric lines around the Villa Savoye, Rem Koolhaas had used pilotis with his own alien twist on them swaying them off center, putting them where ever need be. Personal Statement On Sexual Orientation In taking answering the questions to the Personal Autobiography on Sexual Orientation, I was able to reflect upon my life up to now as being a gay male from the Midwest. My first memories about really being exposed to sexual orientation would have to have been back in elementary school where sexual orientation was introduced by peers more or less as a name calling, playground name calling sort of thing I was introduced to sexual orientation in a negative way. In terms of my parents, I would say the messages from there were positive as my grandma has a brother who is gay and has been out since the 1980s, so they have gone through the process of acceptance of LGBTQ individuals. When I look at sexuality and my peers, I would say in middle and high school the messages were mixed. Negative messages were how LGBTQ individuals were treated if it was known they were of whichever letter in the alphabet, but also the negative messages came in the often heard usage of the word faggot to insult someone. To me, my peers then were exercising this idea of cultural destructiveness, or where they felt they (heterosexual) were the most superior sexual orientation compared to others. I would say the faculty at school when this would occur was more or less culturally blind, or they felt as though the sexual orientation of a student should not matter; however, I felt as though the faculty maybe didn t understand the struggles an LGBTQ person goes through and how painful hearing ... Be it Oscars inability to have sex, Yunior, the narrators, constant search for a woman, the sexual abuse that Lola is victim of as a child or the constant sexualization of Beli as a teen. In these cases, when analyzed, the reader can see that the treatment or, mistreatment of these cases, is often transgenerational. Starting with Lola, the sexual abuse she experienced was at a very young age, and when she tells her mother about it, she is told that she must never speak of it again. This shame that comes with sexual abuse is often repressed by families and victims alike. Lola refers to repressed memory as within a year I couldn t have told you what that neighbor looked like, or even his name (Diaz 56). The way that Lola was sexualized at such an early age, is the same way the she was sexualized on the streets of Santo Domingo as a teen. Yet, Beli does not recognize these similarities. Often, young victims often feel a sense of blame because of the shame that is felt by their families. The sexualization of young girl is not seen a major problem, that is because woman in the novel are disposable. It does not matter if it the dominate Raffaele Trujillo, or the weak Oscar Wao, they all see women as the next conquest, not matter how it is romanticized. Beli is sadly seen as mostly a sex object. One of the major subjects Confucianism addresses is China s politics and government during Confucius s time. Confucius tries to offer solutions through his philosophy to better China and its people. Confucius s Analects is a critique of the dire rulers and China s government, and tries to provide solutions to better China. Confucius lived in China during the Spring and Autumn period, which is 571 449 BCE. During this period China s government and its rulers were corrupt, and because of this Confucius s philosophy heavily revolves at trying to fix the current problem his society faces by trying to issue solutions within his philosophy. One of the major themes that Confucius always goes back to when talking about how China can become better is to go back to tradition. Tradition to Confucius meant not following mystical entities or abstract ideas, but to follow a simple system like the times of early China. • 36. Masculinity In The Sun Also Rises By Ernest Hemingway Ernest Hemingway s classic historical fiction novel The Sun Also Rises comprises an eventful timeline: bullfighting, fishing trips, male friendship, disguised alcoholism, and the differences between femininity and masculinity and how they overlap. . His 1926 novel about members of an expatriate friend group and one pivotal fiesta in Spain portrays a story rife with unrequited love, symbolism, and metaphors for the Lost Generation in Europe. However, the way Hemingway focuses on masculinity and femininity interplaying with each other and contrasts the effects of the two on all characters and story stands out to the audience. Most of the feminine aura in the novel doesn t even come from women. In general, Hemingway does not involve women much in his novels. Notably, the first woman, Frances, introduced in the book is immediately made into an unsympathetic hag like devil wife who berates and verbally abuses Robert Cohn, her unwilling husband. After a certain amount of time, her character is written out of the novel as she vaguely le[aves] for England (Hemingway 77). Lady Brett Ashley, the main woman of the novel, does not exude femininity either, with her boyish haircut and mannerisms. Even though she is married to a Lord, literally making her a Lady, she bends the early 20th centuries rules for the genders and is in fact only mentioned by her title about a dozen times in the novel; the occasional reminder to the audience that despite her erratic and impulsive behavior, she ... • 37. A Study On Water Creek Reservoir Prairie Creek Reservoir, located in an agricultural water in east central Indiana, serves as a secondary drinking water supply for Muncie, IN and offers various recreational activities. Monitoring of the streams and knowledge of its water quality is very limited. This study assessed water quality at five major tributaries and outfall to support future management decisions. Keywords. Eutrophication, nutrients, monitoring, streams, reservoir INTRODUCTION In 2014, 43% of all U.S. lakes and reservoirs were classified as impaired due to not fulfilling one or more designated uses; nutrients and agriculture were the primary factor and source causing impairments (U.S. EPA 2014). Commercial fertilizers designed to increase crop productivity can promote biological productivity in waters draining agricultural lands; fertilizers contribute nearly 57,000 tons of total nitrogen into the White River per year (Martin, 1996; PopovičovĂĄ 2008). The continuous supply of nutrients to a water body can produce algal blooms, intense growth of macrophytes that can lead to dissolved oxygen depletion, and stress on aquatic environments (Dodds and Welch 2000; U.S. EPA 2002, 2012; SĂžndergaard et al. 2003; USGS 2013, 2014). Eutrophication can adversely influence recreation, drinking water supply, industrial uses, and fisheries due to objectionable appeal, fish kills, influx of sedimentation, taste and odor of drinking water, and increased prices in drinking water treatment (Walker 1983; Carpenter, ... • 38. Nationalist Movements of the Middle East and South Asia... The years after World War One brought about vast changes to many parts of the world. Places like South Asia and the Middle East were able to see the need for self government away from foreign control. This sparked a number of nationalist movements during the 1920 s and 1930 s. The Middle East had to Westernize to rid foreign control while India had to be united under non violence and Hindu values. Before WW1, the Middle East was dominated by outside powers. Egypt was under British control and Persia was divided in to Russian and British spheres of influence. The Ottomans tried to promote change with the Tanzimat reforms which allowed some industrialization and modernization. However, in 1908, the Young Turks took over and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This led to scarce food supplies, forced labor, and mistreatment of the peasantry, so Egypt was ready for a revolt at the end of the war. The Egyptian nationalist elites decided to form a Wafd (meaning delegation in Arabic) party under the leader Sa d Zaghlul that rid the British in 1936 from the Suez Canal. However, they did very little to alleviate the misery of the majority. Rather, Egyptian politicians held office just to increase their own family fortune and had no time for land reforms and public works projects that the peasantry desperately needed. Thus, the Egytian revolution led to backwardness. The peasantry of India similarly suffered during WW1. India was controlled by the British who pushed the peasantry for cash crops such as cotton (muslin), jute, and indigo. India s budget was used for the expenses of the British army and the salaries/pensions of British administrators. Many Indians died on the battlefield for a conflict that had little to do with them. War led to inflation which affected all parts of society. Peasants were angered about set prices on market goods despite the rising cost. People were unable to sell what they produced due to shipping shortages. The meager wages of laborers dropped while prices increased. Only bosses grew rich from profits earned in war production. • 39. A View From The Bridge Sympathy In the play A View from the Bridge Miller gives us many reasons to sympathise with the character of Eddie. He is someone who ultimately dies at the end of the play and is presented as a fallen hero in this Greek style tragedy. As the scenes progress, we discover that his feeling for Catherine are more than merely paternal love. Despite this, Miller provides us with reasons to still be somewhat be sympathetic towards him. One way in which Miller makes us feel sympathy towards Eddie, is through his kind behaviour which is shown in Act One. When Catherine s mother died, he adopted her, Eddie says I struggled for that girl . This quotation shows that not only did Eddie look after Catherine, he also wanted the best for her. The verb choice struggled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the play Alfieri is the chorus and someone we can trust. On page 15 he says he was a good man as he had to be in a life that was hard and even. He worked on the piers when there was work, he brought home his pay and lived. This quotation is early on in the play, and gives us the impression that Eddie is a simple character but despite this Alfieri still seems to respect him. This means that before we have discovered for ourselves the characteristics of him, Miller has used the tool of Alfieri to influence our judgement. The adjective good suggests that Miller wanted us to believe that Eddie isn t a character we should feel no sympathy towards. This can be seen once again at the end of the play when Alfieri tells us that I will morn him. This is said in the closing speech in the play, so holds a weighty significance. The verb choice Morn tells us that Miller wanted our last thoughts about Eddie not to be completely negative. Miller creates Alfieri as a character who s judgement the reader can trust, and so we are inclined to feel some sympathy towards Eddie as we see that Alfieri does. In this way Miller uses the character of Alfieri to ensure that some sympathy will always be felt towards ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Valuation And Commodification Of Ecosystem Services The Valuation and commodification of Ecosystem Services Ecosystems in our world act as vital and fundamental sections to maintain health, living, well being and survival of human beings and other creatures (Robert Costanza et al, 1997; Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MEA), 2005; TEEB Foundations, 2010; TEEB Synthesis, 2010). They provide different kinds of service, such as production of goods, life support processes, and life fulfilling conditions (Gretchen C. ,2000). Ecosystem significantly contributes to both economic and non economic value of our planet, but when compared to market efficiency, it seems to be paid less attention when involved in decision making. In the majority of the ongoing projects that have numerous debates on, it seems common for people put a price tag on ecosystem services and evaluate them by means of commodification. When the immediate or intuitionistic benefits fail to be derived, it is less likely for ecosystems to be protected or reserved. Therefore, the importance of ecosystem services is often poorly appreciated and only to be seen when facing severe problems. People are less likely to come up with solutions to protect the ecosystems of their own will than to make a better trade to exchange ecosystem services for money. Also, it is quite often to fail to define the difference between valuation and privatisation , considering ecosystem services more of tradable products than a part of nature system. It is often overlooked that the market ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Philip Zimbardo s The Lucifer Effect The Lucifer Effect In The Lucifer Effect, Philip Zimbardo asks, What happens when good people are put into an evil place? Do they triumph or does the situation dominate their past history and morality? The questions, ideas, and underlying psychology that Zimbardo covers in this novel relate to our AP Psychology class in great amounts. The book talks about an experiment we discussed in class, social psychology, and how certain situations can affect an individual s personality. First, this book includes a full and detailed storyline of the infamous Stanford Prison Experiment. We watched a section of this experiment when learning about ethics in experimentation. The theory is that people are not inherently evil, but can easily become evil if put in the right situation and if the operation of the situation allows it. This relates to the fundamental attribution error that we discussed in class. Many people do not think of how much the situation of an event plays into what happened. They rely too heavily on personality. Therefor, if someone acts cruelty, they are just a cruel person. However, that may not necessarily be the case. Zimbardo uses Abu Ghraib as a perfect example of this. The soldiers that heinous acts or torture were previously seen as good eggs. They were not bad people. However, a situation arose where they received power, and the operation that allowed them to have that power also let it become corrupt. This is also shown in the Stanford Prison Experiment. When given the role of a prison guard, an individual must think of how a guard would act. They then try to act accordingly, even if this may cause cognitive dissonance. They saw the situation and decided that they needed to be dominate and authoritative. As was seen however, this can quickly get out of hand. At Stanford, the students go from insults to torture as Zimbardo describes. Anonymity also plays a lead role in these situations. If a person is in a situation where they are anonymous, their actions could very well ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this paper, we will examine the reasons why bullying has become so common in the workplace, the damaging effects, and what can be done to help stop this behavior. Bullying should be considered as a problem for the entire organization, not just an issue for the target. Bullying can come in many forms including abusive conduct that is threatening, humiliating, or intimidating.
