Comparison Between Remember And Stop All Of The Clocks
Each individual has a unique way of coping with death, and this is evident throughout Christina
Rossetti s, Remember and W. H. Auden s Stop all of the Clocks . In the first stanza of Remember ,
Rossetti allows the reader to explore the narrator s thought about death. When she writes ......Gone far
away into the silent land;/ When you can no more hold me by the hand.... the narrator believes that
death is final because that connection cannot ever be re established regardless of how much one wants
it. The silent land and gone away are metaphors for death, and when the narrator says that no one will
be able to hold me (her) by the hand , this symbolises the one thing death takes, the physical presence
of the person. Likewise, Auden s Stop all of the Clocks , explores death with imperatives. Auden
writes Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,/ Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,/
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum/Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come. Because the
narrator wants life to cease, because with the death of their loved one, there is no purpose in life and it
simply cannot (........) . Similarly, as Stop all of the Clocks develops the narrator metaphorically and
onomatopoeically highlights that everything in life must acknowledge the death and experience it with
him. Outward signs of cotton gloves and bows with doves is a metaphor for the person s
acknowledgement of death. The importance of the deceased love extends to every facet of the narrator
s life because they belonged in every moment that the narrator lived. In this moment of grief, the
narrator feels betrayed because they invested in a love which was not eternal. ... Show more content

Ciara Thomas Sociology Essay
Using information from item B and elsewhere, examine the usefulness of questionnaires in
sociological research.
Item B: The first time we had this questionnaire, I thought it was a bit of a laugh. That s the memory
of it. I can t remember if I answered in truthfully or not ... it had a list of drugs and some of them I
never heard of, and just the names just cracked me up Source: Youth quoted in Parker, H., Aldrige, J.
and Meashem, F. (1998) Illegal Leisure, London: Routledge. Pp. 46 7

Once it has been quantified it can be then used to compare and contrast with other people s research
and it may also be used in other ways like for example measuring change. These are all in favour of
the usefulness of questionnaires and these suggest reasons why they should be used in sociological
research.
As well as there being many advantages there are also many disadvantages to questionnaires. Item B
is a source of evidence where a respondent has commented on an experience she has had filling out a
previous questionnaire. This does not really support the use of questionnaires and is more in favour of
why we should not use this research method. We are able to see a number of disadvantages from a
comment of one person. It most definitely can lack validity and we can never be sure if we are getting
the truth. As the person in item B said, I can t remember if I answered it truthfully or not . As it lacks
validity this therefore means the results received may not necessarily be reliable. Many people do not
take them seriously and just see it as a joke and therefore answer falsely I thought it was a bit of a
laugh . Once the researcher receives the questionnaires they can not be sure in anyway which
questionnaires have valid information and which have false information given from each respondent.
When people are filling out questionnaires their answers my be influenced because of peer pressure,
they may feel pressured into writing an answer down just because it

Essay On American Exceptionalism
Throughout the course of American history, how the population chose to act and react when in various
situations gradually developed the idea of American exceptionalism, in the process bringing out both
the best and worst in American society. Acts such as the mistreatment of the Native Americans showed
how American supremacy came across as arrogant at times; events such as the terrorist attacks of 9/11
showed how American exceptionalism has the ability to bring a society together during times of
hardship. In his sermon, A Model of Christian Charity, John Winthrop proclaimed that their settlement
should be a city upon a hill (24). Being part of a new generation of Puritans, Winthrop believed that
they were God s chosen people , and therefore responsible for setting an example by creating a beacon
of righteousness that all others are to admire (24). Surely this idea of Puritan exceptionalism was
inspiring at the time; many soon to be colonists aspired to gain their agency as could play a large role
in rais[ing] a bulwark against the kingdom ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With intentions of having supremacy in various industries, many colonists fell victim to their egos
when intentionally killing natives with smallpox and other European microorganisms (31). Often, the
warped concept of American supremacy stimulated many colonists egos, bringing the worst out of
them. The Pequot War is another perfect example American supremacy being expressed in the form of
arrogance; from the colonists lust for power, lust for land, and...greed, they committed mass killings
and burn Pequot babies to give them full control and dominance over the Pequots (166). While they
benefitted their New England settlements, they killed off ninety percent of the Native American

Essay about Details of the Sarbanes Oxley Act 2002
An auditor s role in an audit is very important. An auditor must be able to collect enough evidence to
supports their finding, and also be on the lookout for fraud. Company s may or may not know the law,
but it is the job to know the law, and be able to educate and report findings properly. Since the
Sarbanes Oxley Act, there have been provisions that have directly affected auditors. This paper will
include the details of the Sarbanes Oxley Act, how ethics and independence have affected auditors, as
well implementation of new standards based on the Sarbanes Oxley Act. The Sarbanes Oxley Act of
2002, provided changes in the regulations of the issuers in the public structures in the United States, as
well as non United States issuers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Foreign private issuers must maintain internal control over financial reporting, and they must evaluate
the effectiveness and changes of the internal control at the end of the company s fiscal year that may
affect the financial reporting. The main goal of the Sarbanes Oxley Act is to increase oversight over
financial reporting and financial control (Cohen Broadsky 2004). Ethics are a major issue which is a
reason why the Sarbanes Oxley Act was implemented. Before the Act, firms focused on growth but
not as much on professional values. Revenue was the driving factor in auditing firms, and auditors
were required to find new clients, keep existing clients, and cross selling. There were also penalties for
not obtaining these requirements which could lead to termination (Jones III Norman 2006). Since the
Act many organizations have now implemented a code of conduct (ethics) which sets standards of
how an auditor is supposed to act or a place to go to seek advice on handling different situations. The
code of conduct or ethics can be viewed as a way an organization wants one to act or behave (Canary
Jennings 2007). Since implementation ethics is being taught more in college classes, and the reason
for this is because of the huge scandals that have occurred. One study showed that the key leadership
roles in a company often have a MBA, so teaching ethics will reach those leaders, and possibly
prevent future ethical dilemmas (Sulivan, D. 2010).

Her Divine Call on July 31, 1991
It all began on, July 31, 1991, when Linda Smith received the call that would change her life
indefinitely. At 1:01 am she was divinely called out by name and presented with a prophetic
revelation. God revealed Four D Success Academy: an acronym with profound meaning: the Desire to
achieve, the Determination to follow through, the Drive needed to maintain consistent efforts toward
success, and the ability to Deliver by reaching one s goals. At the time she could not grasp the
magnitude of what God had bestowed upon her life. Linda Smith a founder of Four D Success
Academy? This was an unfathomable thought at the time, because she had no background in the
educational realm. However, carrying the conviction of Gods divine call, prompted her to take action.
I knew God was only going to call me once, I couldn t afford not to respond , she affirmed. That same
year she resigned after serving 35 years as a registered nurse, and took a leap of faith into Four D s
future. Initially, her husband and children were perplexed by what seemed to be a hasty decision.
However, Linda gained their support through her own confidence in God s plan.
It has been 22 years since Linda received her divine call. Her story has not changed, but her life has.
Since that day, Four D has blossomed into the first African American owned, accredited healthcare
college, in the United States. She has been recognized in Essence Magazine, Minority Nurse

Public Assistance For Welfare Programs
Many people in our country have turned to public assistance for help in our troubling economy.
Welfare programs in our country date back to the early 1900 s. When these programs first started they
were set up to support those who genuinely needed it. Many of the people who use these programs are
hard working people who have had unfortunate things happen to them. However for those who use
government assistance for good there are those who take advantage of the programs. Those who take
advantage have turned to drugs and are unable or unwilling to make the necessary life changes that the
others using the support have. Welfare programs were started to help those who have fallen into an
undesirable situation such as losing a job. These programs are not setup to aid in or assist in people s
drug habits. Drug use has substantially risen over the years many of the drugs that people are using are
worse than recreational marijuana use. They are also set up to help mothers with children to keep their
children at home and not in foster care. Also to ensure that children and theirs parents have food,
shelter, and basic everyday essentials. Drug testing those who receive public assistance would be
beneficial to the whole country. While there will always be these that insist that drug testing these
people is unconstitutional. It also appears that those taking advantage of the system is also
unconstitutional. Drug testing, as a requirement for welfare, would ensure that those who have a

Betrayal In Othello Research Paper
By definition, betrayal is the act of deliberate dishonesty and disloyalty (vocabulary.com). It is a
common concept in which can destroy people and their relationships. Throughout William
Shakespeare s play Othello, acts of betrayal are committed among characters when Iago betrays
Othello, Othello betrays Desdemona, and finally, when Othello betrays himself. Revenge plays a
major role as to why Shakespeare includes betrayal to form conflicts and help advance the tragically
dramatic plot. To begin, the main characters, Iago and Othello, introduce this act of betrayal by
creating conflicts due to jealousy. Originally, the plan for revenge began when Iago dreamed and

Trump Immigration Policy
Under the new immigration enforcement policies of the Trump administration millions of people
living in the United States illegally could soon be targeted for deportation. Any immigrant who is in

now be an enforcement priority, according to Homeland Security Department memos signed by
Secretary John Kelly. Under the Obama administration, immigrants whose only violation was being in
the country illegally were generally left alone.
Donald Trump s deportation policy focuses on anyone who has been charged with a criminal offense,
even if it has not led to a conviction. He also includes anyone who has committed acts that constitute a
chargeable criminal offense, (Medina, J). Which means anyone the authorities believe has broken any

To get this done, he mainly plants to build the wall he has promised, as I mentioned. Trump initially

Homeland Security to start planning for the costs and construction (Baker, A). Also, during Trump s
earlier immigration orders, he banned all refugees as well as foreigners from seven Muslim majority
countries, which he has had extensive criticism and legal action.
While I do see immigrants coming to the United States illegally as an issue, the focus on which

instead the focus should at least be on the illegal immigrants who are a threat to citizens like those in

Compare And Contrast The Theory Of Planned Behavior
Across both the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) and its descendant the Theory of Planned
Behavior, people are portrayed to behave in ways that they intended to (thus said to have planned
doing as such), with their intentions dependent on how favorably they view the behavior based on
what outcomes it would bring (attitudes), how people they consult with would act in the same
situation (norms), and how much they believe in their ability to act (behavioral control). The causal
path is then clear: People possess beliefs about their actions and act on their intentions if they find that
acting out their beliefs would be worth it (both because it would bring desired outcomes, and because
they intend to do so).
Taking into hindsight the theories we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While other cognition and motivation based theories have fallen short due to their discounting of the
limits of human cognitive processing, TPB is able to withstand this by invoking implicit attitudes and
intentions and clarifying the subjective nature of beliefs. That is, the theory recognizes that we do not
go through the laborious process of checking our beliefs and intentions each time we engage in
behavior. By encountering the regularity of routine in our daily lives, our intentions become implicit
and ingrained in our life schedules that the cognitive process of inferring what we wish to do becomes
automatic. In the same way, we arrive at our beliefs based on what information is readily available to
us as organized through what processes are most efficient or salient at a given time. Our intentions are
then sometimes informed by irrational and unrealistic states of thinking. Working within the same
framework as other theories, TPB comes somehow on top through its recognition of the biased and
miserly nature of human cognition: It does not weaken in the pitfalls of optimistically assuming an
objective rational agent, and instead recognizing a person who may heuristically process information
that lead to subjectively irrational beliefs that inform behavior nevertheless. In addition, it incorporates
the well established notion of

The Characteristics Of A Detective Fiction
Detective Fiction Essay
A detective fiction is a literary genre in form of a short story or novel that deals with crimes, usually
murder and detectives are involved to seek out justice for the victims. The detectives involved in
detective fictions can either be private, amateur, or police detectives. There are also other characters
like the suspects and the side kicks. An amateur detective is a detective who has no license to operate
as a private investigator neither is he/she a member of the police force. These detectives have a
different profession, but are not trained in criminal investigation. They have a passion in crime and
delivering justice to the society. On the other hand, a private detective also known as hard boiled is a
male or female detective trained in criminal investigation. Dealing with crime is his/her profession,
therefore, has good physical attributes and uses the gun efficiently. The two detectives differ in two
ways; first, they differ in financial status, secondly they differ on how they use violence in their
investigations.
The first difference between an amateur detective and a private detective is their financial statuses. An
amateur detective is an individual who has another job or rather a ... Show more content on

In addition, most of them are always poor. A good example is in the Simple Art of Murder by
Raymond Chandler. Raymond writes that, He is a relatively poor man, or he would not be a detective
at all. He is a common man or he could not go among common people, (219). Another example is the
short story Trouble is My Business by Phillip Marlowe. This story presents a needy private detective.
When he is hired, he confesses that, I started to get up from my chair, then remembered that business
had been bad for a month and that I needed the money (Marlowe 255). This is an example of a hard

Evaluating The Developmental Assets Model That Has Been...
Summary This research article was an analysis run by Pashak, Handal, and Scales (2016) to evaluate
the developmental assets model that has been effectively used on children to create a new survey to
test on emerging adults. The researchers named their creation the Young Adult Developmental Assets
Survey (YADAS). The Search Institute had already developed the 40 assets that were evaluated within
YADAS, and as a nonprofit for advancement of health the institute has conducted research over the
last 50 years on young people and their success or failure. Their model is one of the most widely cited
youth development approaches. It is divided into categories of external assets or internal assets, both
which aid in the formation of young people. Their model is known as the PSL AB. Other researchers
have studied what makes emerging adults (18 29) thrive in emerging adulthood, and those findings
were also included in the introduction. For this study, researchers aimed to test the efficacy of the PSL
AB, and also to test if the program could act a support and intervention tool for universities to promote
young adults mental and physical health. This was a correlational study because the researchers drew
conclusions for effectiveness based on associations between traits. The researchers hypothesize that if
the developmental assets measure proves valid and reliable, that they can be used for a more
comprehensive evaluation of young adult well being. The participants in the study were

Theme Of Mrs. Mallard
Mrs. Mallard s sister and acquaintances make an assumption that her husband has died in a railroad
disaster. The sister was the one to tell Mrs. Mallard about her husband s terrible accident. The sister
and acquaintances expect that Mrs. Mallard will be heartbroken at the thought of her husband being
dead. Her sister would try to break the news as gentle as possible (Chopin 397). At first, Mrs. Mallard
would crumbles with sadness at the thought of her husband being dead. She takes time alone in her
room to think about the scenario handed to her. After short time she finds herself whispering free
aloud. In the end she realizes she had not loved him as she thought she had, she was now free to live
her life. All while she was shut in her room, her friends and family would be outside the door
assuming she was sobbing and distraught at the thought of her loving husband being dead. Mrs.

had been told in a nonfictional manner. This seems to have a more drastic effect on the reader. It has
an advantage as giving the message that drastic changes can affect a person in more ways than one and
that one s emotions are not just black and white. Fictional essays can do this because the writer is able
to arrange a story in a way that can affect the reader. They are able to create their own mood in a piece

The Seven Dispensations In The Bible
The seven dispensations are not explicitly stated in the Bible. Instead they are a Biblical interpretation
that divides the history of mankind into seven different categories. There are different versions or
interpretations of the seven dispensations, but I will explain the general understanding that is
commonly accepted. The seven dispensations are: the dispensation of innocence, the dispensation of
conscience, the dispensation of human government, the dispensation of promise, the dispensation of
law, the dispensation of grace, and the millennial kingdom of Christ. The first dispensation, innocence,
begins with the creation of man (Genesis 1:27) and ends with the fall of man (Genesis 3). This
dispensation is called innocence because Adam, the first man, was created innocent and without
knowledge of good and evil. Adam was given the authority to rule over everything of the earth, under
one condition: Adam and Eve must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. ... Show

The Twitter Effect Of Social Media On The News
The Twitter Effect: The Impact of Social Media on the News Networked technologies like Twitter
disrupt established concepts of communication, prevailing notions of space and time and the distance
between public and private spheres, (Noah, A., Weiss, A. S., 2010). As a result, journalism is not just
in the process of negotiating a shift to a digital media environment, but more significantly to a
networked one. (Hermida, A., 2012). As an increasing amount of people have gained access to the
internet, with incrementally faster paced networks, it has found itself an exceedingly popular platform
in which users have the freedom to discuss topics of choice to an extensive and unlimited viewership.
Consumers of the news have adapted to forms of new media, such as online news, blogs, social media
sites, and microblogging sites such as Twitter, which not only has the potential to give users content
and information at unimaginably high speed, but also the opportunity to share their own personal
material. This allows for everyone to become a journalist at a low (or free of) charge at an even faster
speed than traditional media organizations, therefore incorporating a grassroots dimension to the
media. Networked technologies such as Twitter provide a huge social platform for audiences of the
media to make a shift from their role as a consumer, to having the potential in which to become
producers . We are moving from a traditional news cycle dominated by journalists and

dangerous when a person starts to believe in everything that is being presented to them. The
expectation of the news media to present only facts is far from the agenda of media. Whereas, the
media needs to be profitable like any other corporation. For instance, the media started the Spanish
American war through false journalism as competition between two rival newspapers. William

The Influence Of Living In A Small Town
Imagine growing up in a small town where everyone knows everyone s business and the nearest Wal
Mart is almost an hour away; then imagine attending a school where the amount of student attending
is the same number of people who occupy a small town. The size difference is substantial and plays an
important role. When I was younger, I had attended both a small town school and a school in the city. I
have had the chance to experience the different lifestyles of these two variations of living. The
development of who I am today was because of my surroundings. In the city, I noticed there was
different opportunities. The opportunities seemed more readily available depending on funding and
sources; which are dependant on the location. Education, development, and opportunities are widely
known to be affected by environmental factors; thus, people who live in the city have a different
experience than those who reside in small towns.
There are many stereotypes associated with people who live in the city and people who live in a small
town. A lot of stereotypes lean towards people who grow up in a small town do not have the chance to
receive a finer education, or everyone who lives in the city are rude and arrogant. On contrary to these
stereotypes, people raised in a small town can receive an adequate education and not everyone who
lives in the city is rude. Personally, when I transferred from a middle school with a 1000 students to a
school who had roughly 300 students I noticed

conditions. She does not care at all about anyone but herself. I feel that she may even be narcissistic. It

narcissism as too much interest in and admiration for your own physical appearance and/or your own

According to the Miriam Webster dictionary self centered is being ?concerned solely with one s own
desires, needs, or interests? or being ?independent of outside force or influence?. The grandmother is
certainly guilty of both. The grandmother was like a child she would do anything she possibly could to
get what she wanted. She showed no regard for the people who love her. Although it was unintentional
it is hard not to blame everything that went wrong in the story on the grandmother. She was the cause
of all of the tension in the car; she was also the one who wanted to go up the side roads. Of not for the
grandmother the cat would not have been in the car so they probably would not have crashed. Once
they confronted the Misfit she still did nothing to help save her family. She showed them no regard
and just looked out for herself.
The grandmother is a very immature woman. She acts as if she has not properly developed socially or
morally. She shows no concern for anyone else?s opinion or authority. She makes her decisions based
solely on what she would like to do. She will do anything it takes to make sure that everything goes
her way. For example she completely fabricated a story about her house in order to get them to drive
up the side roads. Her attitude seams to have been the primary cause everything that went wrong
throughout the whole story. The only person she showed any emotion to

Differences in the Development of New England and the Chesapeake Region
Question: Although New England and the Chesapeake region were both settled largely by people of
English origin, by 1700 the regions had evolved into two distinct societies. Why did this difference in
development occur?
By the 1700s the two regions, New England and Chesapeake varied greatly in spite of being from the
same mother country, England. Physical and cultural differences separated these two regions
distinctively. While religion moulded the daily life in New England, Money and tobacco farming
dominated the Chesapeake.

Religious uniformity was very important as they were intolerant of any other religion, and only church
members were part of the government at first. Citizens were required to attend Church services as part
of the law. Most of the people in New England had been merchants or small farmers in England. In
New England however, the rocky soil made it hard for a lot of farming, so the Puritans turned to the
coast. They built up major industries such as shipbuilding and fishing, and established trade routes
with England, and the Caribbean. The New Englanders were a very pious and hardworking people,
very different from their southern neighbours.
The Chesapeake region was the first region to be colonized. The first settlers had a very hard time
adapting to the moist swampy climate and lack of commerce and civility that they were used to in
England. Most of the early settlers were gentlemen sent by companies such as the Virginia and
London Companies. They were determined to find wealth in the North American wilderness, and
suffered greatly due to famine and diseases like malaria. Most of these unlucky settlers were men,
which was a drawback for the new colony of Virginia because there was very little reproduction.

Video Game Effects On Children
Video Game Effects on Children
The effects of video games on children has been widely debated on multiple occasions. Most homes
contain at least one video game system. There are plenty of companies involved in the rapidly
growing gaming industry. These companies ensure a wide variety of types and genres of video games
exist in the world today, and most people, including adults, will have very little difficulty identifying
precisely which game is their favourite. The fact of the matter is, nearly every child has easy access to
video games; playing these games has to have some impact on the children. Not all of the effects from
playing video games are definitively positive or negative. Children happen to be the intended audience
for many video games. Companies create these games to be kid friendly, and kids are able to learn
from the content of the games. There is much that can be learned from and skills that can be improved
by playing video games. There are many positive outcomes of playing video games; children should
be allowed the opportunity to learn both skills and knowledge from video games.
Children exposed to video games may socialize differently than those without access to games. Firstly,

In this relief, we see it as Christ the child shares the viewer his joy of starting his new adventure as
well as praising the purity of Virgin Mary. There are also three angels emerging from the cloud. In the
Old Testament, angel s functions refer to convey God s will to mankind, which in this relief the angels
reminds us of their role as annunciators (ABRAHAM, 2: The three angels). They were the ones who
carried messages from god and annunciated the birth of Christ. They are the witnesses of Christ the
child coming to the human world as well as proof of Virgin Mary s virtue of immaculate. In this relief,
they are the guardian of the Virgin and child as well as admirers of Mary s pure and virgin status. With
their hands holding together in prayer, they show their blessings and caring to the mother and son as
well as to the human world. In addition, unlike other Virgin Mary we see in churches altarpieces that
are usually seated on throne, we also have Mary sitting humbly on the ground in this relief. According
to Dictionary of Subjects and Symbols in Art, there is a popular theme of Madonna of Humility which
its essential figure is that the Virgin is seated on the ground. The dictionary also states that artists set
Virgin Mary on the ground to convey a medieval theology,

Mark Twain- American Author
Some of the most riveting books in not just American literature but in all of history, was written by
this famous author. Twain, an American writer, is one of the major authors of American fiction. Also,
he is considered the greatest humorist in American literature (Alan Gribben, np). Mark Twain was
influenced by the society s conditions he lived in, hence the incorporation of much of it in his writing.
Growing up in the 1870s, Twain s society was much different than growing up now. He grew up
during the outbreak of the civil war and he lived during the time of major cynical political corruption
that began in the late 1860s all the way to 1900. He was also raised during a time where slave holding
was acceptable, and encouraged. Under his father s influence, he was told that slavery was justified
through biblical principles. The majority of people in Hannibal, where Twain grew up, thought this
and was the reason why everyone was proslavery. The local pulpit taught us that God approved it, that
it was a holy thing and that the doubter need only look in the Bible if he wished to settle his mind and
then the texts were read aloud to us to make the matter sure; if the slaves themselves had an aversion
to slavery, they were wise and said nothing... (Twain 212 ) This quote portrayed how the people Twain
grew up with encouraged slavery because it was accepted by God. However, even though Twain grew
up in this condition he was never a supporter of slavery or racism. This point

Examples Of Low Angle Angles
An example of a low angle shot in the movie can be seen at the start of the movie where it shows the
city buildings at a low angle. This shows how big and wide the city is. It amplifies the interest of the
audience to see the things that takes place in those areas.
The high angle is a shot where the camera is at a high angle and it shows how the character is looking
to the camera. It is commonly used so that it can show the character s vulnerability and can also show
how weak the characters is as it shows that of something that is looked down upon, leading to the
feeling of being subservient, which shows the audience one of the few cases where a character looks

One of the group members suggested that the entire group read the specific article and come ready to
discuss what each member understood from the article. After a group discussion of the article, another
member suggested that each member select a question they felt comfortable answering and presenting
in class. The group members also agreed a deadline as to when everyone needed to write up their part
of the presentation and turn it in to one members of a group who would gather the data and enter it
into a power point presentation format. Everyone in the group agreed that they would email me their
written part of the presentation. Prior to the classroom presentation, the group reviewed the data
entered in the power point, edited it and agreed as to the order of the information that would be
presented in class. Finally, the group gathered prior to the presentation and made last minute edits to
slides. The group agreed that there were too many slides and agreed to reduced them to a minimal
amount. After agreeing to the final PowerPoint presentation the group rehearsed the information to be
presented prior to the class meeting. This group did not experience the storming effect. No one in the
group believed that they were being judged and everyone was able to share their opinion and views.
As one member of the group stated that this was one of the easiest group she had ever been in because
everyone got along and no arguments over the project emerged.

  • 2. Comparison Between Remember And Stop All Of The Clocks Each individual has a unique way of coping with death, and this is evident throughout Christina Rossetti s, Remember and W. H. Auden s Stop all of the Clocks . In the first stanza of Remember , Rossetti allows the reader to explore the narrator s thought about death. When she writes ......Gone far away into the silent land;/ When you can no more hold me by the hand.... the narrator believes that death is final because that connection cannot ever be re established regardless of how much one wants it. The silent land and gone away are metaphors for death, and when the narrator says that no one will be able to hold me (her) by the hand , this symbolises the one thing death takes, the physical presence of the person. Likewise, Auden s Stop all of the Clocks , explores death with imperatives. Auden writes Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,/ Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,/ Silence the pianos and with muffled drum/Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come. Because the narrator wants life to cease, because with the death of their loved one, there is no purpose in life and it simply cannot (........) . Similarly, as Stop all of the Clocks develops the narrator metaphorically and onomatopoeically highlights that everything in life must acknowledge the death and experience it with him. Outward signs of cotton gloves and bows with doves is a metaphor for the person s acknowledgement of death. The importance of the deceased love extends to every facet of the narrator s life because they belonged in every moment that the narrator lived. In this moment of grief, the narrator feels betrayed because they invested in a love which was not eternal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once it has been quantified it can be then used to compare and contrast with other people s research and it may also be used in other ways like for example measuring change. These are all in favour of the usefulness of questionnaires and these suggest reasons why they should be used in sociological research. As well as there being many advantages there are also many disadvantages to questionnaires. Item B is a source of evidence where a respondent has commented on an experience she has had filling out a previous questionnaire. This does not really support the use of questionnaires and is more in favour of why we should not use this research method. We are able to see a number of disadvantages from a comment of one person. It most definitely can lack validity and we can never be sure if we are getting the truth. As the person in item B said, I can t remember if I answered it truthfully or not . As it lacks validity this therefore means the results received may not necessarily be reliable. Many people do not take them seriously and just see it as a joke and therefore answer falsely I thought it was a bit of a laugh . Once the researcher receives the questionnaires they can not be sure in anyway which questionnaires have valid information and which have false information given from each respondent. When people are filling out questionnaires their answers my be influenced because of peer pressure, they may feel pressured into writing an answer down just because it ... • 4. Essay On American Exceptionalism Throughout the course of American history, how the population chose to act and react when in various situations gradually developed the idea of American exceptionalism, in the process bringing out both the best and worst in American society. Acts such as the mistreatment of the Native Americans showed how American supremacy came across as arrogant at times; events such as the terrorist attacks of 9/11 showed how American exceptionalism has the ability to bring a society together during times of hardship. In his sermon, A Model of Christian Charity, John Winthrop proclaimed that their settlement should be a city upon a hill (24). Being part of a new generation of Puritans, Winthrop believed that they were God s chosen people , and therefore responsible for setting an example by creating a beacon of righteousness that all others are to admire (24). Foreign private issuers must maintain internal control over financial reporting, and they must evaluate the effectiveness and changes of the internal control at the end of the company s fiscal year that may affect the financial reporting. The main goal of the Sarbanes Oxley Act is to increase oversight over financial reporting and financial control (Cohen Broadsky 2004). Ethics are a major issue which is a reason why the Sarbanes Oxley Act was implemented. Before the Act, firms focused on growth but not as much on professional values. Revenue was the driving factor in auditing firms, and auditors were required to find new clients, keep existing clients, and cross selling. There were also penalties for not obtaining these requirements which could lead to termination (Jones III Norman 2006). Since the Act many organizations have now implemented a code of conduct (ethics) which sets standards of how an auditor is supposed to act or a place to go to seek advice on handling different situations. The code of conduct or ethics can be viewed as a way an organization wants one to act or behave (Canary Jennings 2007). Since implementation ethics is being taught more in college classes, and the reason for this is because of the huge scandals that have occurred. One study showed that the key leadership roles in a company often have a MBA, so teaching ethics will reach those leaders, and possibly prevent future ethical dilemmas (Sulivan, D. 2010). ... Welfare programs in our country date back to the early 1900 s. When these programs first started they were set up to support those who genuinely needed it. Many of the people who use these programs are hard working people who have had unfortunate things happen to them. However for those who use government assistance for good there are those who take advantage of the programs. Those who take advantage have turned to drugs and are unable or unwilling to make the necessary life changes that the others using the support have. Welfare programs were started to help those who have fallen into an undesirable situation such as losing a job. These programs are not setup to aid in or assist in people s drug habits. Drug use has substantially risen over the years many of the drugs that people are using are worse than recreational marijuana use. By encountering the regularity of routine in our daily lives, our intentions become implicit and ingrained in our life schedules that the cognitive process of inferring what we wish to do becomes automatic. In the same way, we arrive at our beliefs based on what information is readily available to us as organized through what processes are most efficient or salient at a given time. Instead they are a Biblical interpretation that divides the history of mankind into seven different categories. There are different versions or interpretations of the seven dispensations, but I will explain the general understanding that is commonly accepted. The seven dispensations are: the dispensation of innocence, the dispensation of conscience, the dispensation of human government, the dispensation of promise, the dispensation of law, the dispensation of grace, and the millennial kingdom of Christ. The first dispensation, innocence, begins with the creation of man (Genesis 1:27) and ends with the fall of man (Genesis 3). This dispensation is called innocence because Adam, the first man, was created innocent and without knowledge of good and evil. Adam was given the authority to rule over everything of the earth, under one condition: Adam and Eve must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. ... S., 2010). As a result, journalism is not just in the process of negotiating a shift to a digital media environment, but more significantly to a networked one. (Hermida, A., 2012). As an increasing amount of people have gained access to the internet, with incrementally faster paced networks, it has found itself an exceedingly popular platform in which users have the freedom to discuss topics of choice to an extensive and unlimited viewership. Consumers of the news have adapted to forms of new media, such as online news, blogs, social media sites, and microblogging sites such as Twitter, which not only has the potential to give users content and information at unimaginably high speed, but also the opportunity to share their own personal material. This allows for everyone to become a journalist at a low (or free of) charge at an even faster speed than traditional media organizations, therefore incorporating a grassroots dimension to the media. The Influence Of Living In A Small Town Imagine growing up in a small town where everyone knows everyone s business and the nearest Wal Mart is almost an hour away; then imagine attending a school where the amount of student attending is the same number of people who occupy a small town. The size difference is substantial and plays an important role. When I was younger, I had attended both a small town school and a school in the city. I have had the chance to experience the different lifestyles of these two variations of living. The development of who I am today was because of my surroundings. In the city, I noticed there was different opportunities. The opportunities seemed more readily available depending on funding and sources; which are dependant on the location. Education, development, and opportunities are widely known to be affected by environmental factors; thus, people who live in the city have a different experience than those who reside in small towns. There are many stereotypes associated with people who live in the city and people who live in a small town. A lot of stereotypes lean towards people who grow up in a small town do not have the chance to receive a finer education, or everyone who lives in the city are rude and arrogant. Twain, an American writer, is one of the major authors of American fiction. Also, he is considered the greatest humorist in American literature (Alan Gribben, np). Mark Twain was influenced by the society s conditions he lived in, hence the incorporation of much of it in his writing. Growing up in the 1870s, Twain s society was much different than growing up now. He grew up during the outbreak of the civil war and he lived during the time of major cynical political corruption that began in the late 1860s all the way to 1900. He was also raised during a time where slave holding was acceptable, and encouraged. Under his father s influence, he was told that slavery was justified through biblical principles. The majority of people in Hannibal, where Twain grew up, thought this and was the reason why everyone was proslavery. The local pulpit taught us that God approved it, that it was a holy thing and that the doubter need only look in the Bible if he wished to settle his mind and then the texts were read aloud to us to make the matter sure; if the slaves themselves had an aversion to slavery, they were wise and said nothing...
