W.H. Auden s Poems and Homosexuality Essay
W.H. Auden s Poems and Homosexuality
W. H. Auden published This lunar beauty in 1930; he published Now through night s caressing
grip in 1935, and he published Lay your sleeping head, my love in 1937 (Auden 16; 41; 51). [I]t
has been argued that the first part of the twentieth century s culture is dominated by attempts to
keep homosexuality hidden, ... [and a] number of homosexual writers in the period maintain public
silence about their sex lives, and dramatize homosexual themes indirectly, if at all (Caserio). While
it s unclear whether Auden s abovementioned 1930s poems dramatize homosexual themes, they do
share obscure settings and references to wandering, clandestine lovers who seek healing, safety, and
freedom. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fortunately, the soul has escaped from daytime into a place that [k]eeps other time[,] and like a
dream[,] this place allows the soul the safety and freedom of expressing its latent, subconscious
desires. However, this new place has its flaws, too:
But this was never A ghost s endeavour Nor finished this, Was ghost at ease; And till it pass Love
shall not near The sweetness here Nor sorrow take His endless look. (16 24)
The soul didn t have the initial goal of only being able to express its love under the faint light of
the moon, and when this faint light changes to the glaring light of the sun, the soul is sorrowful
that its love can no longer be openly expressed. It finds temporary healing in this lunar beauty, but
only till it pass[es;] after that, the soul once again has to be fickle and unwillingly keep a
measured distance from its love. A similar sentiment is expressed in Now through night s caressing
grip :
Now the ragged vagrants creep Into crooked holes to sleep: ... Awkward lovers lie in fields... May
sleep s healing power extend Through these hours to our friend. Unpursued by hostile force,...
Calmly till the morning

Health Planners Essay
Health Planners Written by: Tara Mcmahon Today I will be discussing a job called health
planners. Talking about the ups and downs. Some people go to university and study what they
want to do without actually researching it. Some things that you will have to do in this job are...
Plan the department of public health, which means make a plan and schedule of what you are
going to do and when you are going to do these things. Analyse and evaluate the current health
programs. Analyse the demographic health data which for people who don t know that means it is
all of the patient s medical history. It is what happens the most in the hospitals and focuses more on
trying to solve those things. They are usually really involved with drug and alcohol

Comparing The TV Show Gossip Girl
The show gossip girl has been called the best teen drama ever made. However, there are many
people who say that they don t understand why gossip girl went on for as long as it did. That
being said it is based on the novels gossip girl. Which is based on an Elite privet school on the
upper east side of Manhattan whose students are less than citizens of the year. The show gossip girl
is about a mysterious blogger who exposes the main characters any time they have a secret. In
the show the blogger is called gossip girl and she runs everything if gossip girl doesn t write
about you then are you even alive. However, gossip girl has a few favorite victims, those being the
main characters such as Serena van der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf
, Chuck Bass, Nathaniel Archibald,
and Dan and Jenny Humphrey. All of the main characters are children of the elite and live on the
upper east side except for Dan... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the books we see a somewhat lazy character development. In the books the characters are two
dimensional at best. They have no feelings no layers and the characters are just rich high school
students who blow their parents money on clothes, parties and drugs. Serena van der woodsen
in the books is the tall hot blonde that every girl wants to be and every guy wants to be with and
best friend to Blair waldorf. In the show she s all those things but she also has her own coming
of age story that we see play out in the show such as the time she comes back to the upper east
side from boarding school because her younger brother tried to kill himself because he s gay and
their parents wouldn t accept him. Then there was the time she admits to killing a man. In another
instance where Serena runs away and gets engaged. This made the show so much better than the
book because in the book she comes back to the upper east side because she gets kicked out of
boarding school for doing

Freedom Speech
By not allowing speech that is racially bigoted or offensive on campus we are sending the
message that that behavior and ideology is not accepted in the public sphere, we are not
allowing it to become a norm, and are thus discouraging and alienating those that want to use
that kind of harmful language. Delgado writes, When social pressures and rewards for racism
are absent.... prejudiced persons may even refrain from discriminating behavior to escape social
disapproval, (148). We can see examples throughout history of how protecting the free speech of
racists and white nationalists has caused injury to marginalized groups. One such example would
be with the court case Village of Skokie v. National Socialist Party of America; in which Nazi s
wanted to hold a peaceful public assembly in the town of Skokie, Illinois, where the majority of
the citizens were of Jewish descent, and at least ten percent were Holocaust survivors (Adams 277).
The Supreme Court of Illinois originally ruled that the Nazi Partywouldn t be allowed to march or
display the swastika, but when the case reached the Court of Appeals it was decided that this
ruling went against the First Amendment. Even though the Court of Appeals agreed that for the
Skokie Villages Jewish community it would be a traumatic experience seeing the Nazi Party s
display, the swastika was considered a form of symbolic speech and therefore was protected
speech (Delgado 134). When we protect hate speech and give white

Examples Of Lexical Cohesion
This paper tackles how cohesion can be effective to make the text more united. Both cohesive
devices; lexical and grammatical, have a powerful role in giving the text texture. Lexical devices are
repetition, antonyms, synonyms, and general words. On the other hand, grammatical devices are
reference, conjunction, and ellipsis. Both of them provide the text harmony and meaning.
Lexical Cohesion Lexical cohesion occurs when two words are semantically related to each other
such as, repetition, synonyms, antonyms, general words, and superordinate. Firstly, repetition
occurs when one word is mentioned more than one time throughout the text. To illustrate, the word
and is repeated about 22 times in the text , the word her is repeated around 15 times in paragraphs
number 1, 2, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 13, the morpheme mother is repeated 5 times in paragraphs number 1,
8, and 14, the pronoun I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, conjunctions link between clauses and sentences. They signal the way the writer wants
the reader to relate the sentence to what have been said or what is going to be said throughout the
text. Conjunctions have many types such as, additive, causal, adversative, and temporal. Additive
conjunctions, also in paragraph number 6, or in paragraph number 3, and in paragraphs number 4, 7,
10, 11, 12, 13, and 14, are used when the writer wants to add more information to his idea. Causal
conjunctions like, in order to in paragraph number 7, so in paragraph number 8, 9, and 14, and
because in paragraph number 14, are used to tell a reason or a result. Adversative conjunctions like,
but in paragraph 8, and although in paragraph number 11, are used to confirm opposite ideas.
Temporal conjunction like, since in paragraph number 9, is used to confirm

Introduction
Enzymes are proteins, in which it speeds up the chemical reaction. Enzymes can be seen as proteins
of adjustments of chemical reactions, and they are macromolecules. Enzymes are made from amino
acids. When an enzyme if established, it is produced by linking combined between 100 and 1,000
amino acids in a very particular and distinctive sequence (How stuff works, 2017). Their 3D
structure determines their function. Enzymes are essential to life because they accelerate metabolic
reactions to a very great expansion, but do not experience any change in themselves (WebFinance,
2017). Catalyst helps the reaction transpire rapidly or more regularly. Enzymes can make some
positive charged making the reaction easier to happen. The molecule that is going to bind with the
enzymes is called substrate. A substance that speeds up chemical reaction without being a reactant
is called a catalyst (Khan Academy, 2017). They all bind together at the active site, where the
reaction happens. It is

The Typographic Mind By Neil Postman
In the beginning of chapter four, The Typographic Mind, Neil Postman delivers an impressive
narrative argument about the impact of print information culture on 17th and 19th century minds.
Postman makes a few claims with respect to the contrasts between the written and spoken word. In
this essay, there are four qualities of the typographic mind: attention span, listening ability,
knowledge of issues, and literary language. First, Postman discusses attention span in reference to
America s first debate between Stephen Douglas and Abraham Lincoln on August 21 1858.
Attention span means the length of time during which a person can concentrate on a subject or
idea. Postman first illustrates about people with disciplined minds who are able to attend and listen
to a 4 5 hour lecture. People at that time can listen and gather information, so they are able to
comprehend and structure sentences. One debate lasted three hours while another in 1858 went
seven. Postman guarrateeds that Douglas and Lincoln who wrote speeches in advance are pure
print and they have the power of typography to get the audience attention because their language
was clear. The audiences who attended the debate must have had an equally extraordinary capacity
to comprehend lengthy and complex sentences aurally (45). Much of it seemed either blindingly
obvious, or like the moanings of a killjoy who can t bear that televisionis entertaining and that
people are unable to process it through the ear , therefore

Monetary Policy Adopted On Bubble Economy Period Of...
The topic of this dissertation is to discuss the monetary policy adopted in bubble economy period

government adopted many effective ways to revitalize the economy with the result that its economy
rose abruptly after the World war II. However, because Japan entered a liquidity trap around 1990s,
and experienced a Lost Decade (Hiyashi and Prescott, 2002), the government experienced many
economic problems such as of slow growth, deflation, and continues nethermore output (Daniel,
2009) In this dissertation, the following parts will be given: Literature review, data description, test

adopted by Bank of Japan was wrong. It will also give some suggestions about the monetary policy
according to Japan s economy.
In general, the point of this dissertation is to focus on the monetary policy of Japan during bubble
economy period and to identify whether Bank of Japan did right or wrong in such period.
Literature Review
The background of Japanese Monetary policy in Bubble economy period
As Walsh (2003) said that, a social loss function dependent on inflationand output gap is the
appropriate objective of monetary policy which indicates that the level of inflation and output are
the major factors that affect monetary policy of all countries. Moreover, Castelnuovo and Surico
(2010) claimed that inflation are the key elements to decided a monetary policy for a county. For
the Japan economy, it experienced a disaster during the period 1986 1991, which named Japanese
asset price bubble (Wood, Christopher, 2005). It leaded a long term economic depression japan after
that. The main reason for the bubble economy is the extremely high inflation rate and output. As
mentioned before, Japan was sustained a rapid development after world war II, the main industry of
Japan is manufacturing industry. After the Plaza Accord

The Decepticon
If you have not heard of Transformers, then you have been living under a rock. Transformers:
Revenge of The Fallen had brought in $200 million the first week it came out. You may be
wondering who is the director behind this extraordinary movie? The answer to that is Michael Bay,
and he has directed many outstanding movies. With Transformersit has now been 2 years since the
Autobots have save the Earth from the Decepticons, they are now working with the military to
protect the earth. While they are doing that Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) is now off to college
and he is trying to live a normal college student life. An older Decepticon name The Fallen is up
to no good and wants revenge. Sam and his girlfriend Mikaela (Megan Fox) learn the history of
the Transformers and with that knowledge they help the Autobots defeat the Decepticons again.
With seeing all of The Transformer movies Michael Bay uses a lot of ethos, and pathos with
making his movies exciting to see.
The primary audience of this movie would be the military. Optimus Prime and his Autobot friends
explain to the people in the military what is going on so they can be prepared for when The Fallen
and his Decepticons come. The Autobots and the military ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Watching the movie over again and breaking it down bits by pieces I am now more aware of the
rhetorical analysis that is in the movie. Transformers is definitely a draining movie, so many
emotions run through your body it is impossible to control them when watching the film. Lastly the
credibility is phenomenal in this movie, because Michael Bay did not just give living things trust
but he also gave it to the robots. The Autobots gain the militaries trust and that allows them to
believe in each other. It is rare for you to see robots and humans standing hand to hand fighting to

How The Rising Swedish Democratic Party Is An Acceptable...
It is quite common knowledge in North America that the true bastions of liberal, social democracy
lie in the north; Scandinavia has in recent years become what neoliberals deem as an acceptable
balance between socialism and western democracy. This is supplemented that, according to Forbes
and several other periodicals, Scandinavian countries such as Denmarkand Norway tend to rank
highest in terms of overall happiness. However these seeming utopias of democracy have stark
differences between themselves and North Americans; their populations are substantially lower,
tax rates are far higher, and the results of unending migration from the Levant and beyond have
resulted in an exponential increase in crime. This has led to a rise in support for right wing parties
among a more traditionally socialist region. As seen in articles by Dalstrom and Esaiasson as well
as Hinnfors, Spehar and Bucken Knapp, this is not a new phenomenon in Sweden; immigration has
been a matter of concern for quite some time in Europe. This paper will seek to establish how the
rising Swedish Democratic Party has aggregated decades of social desire within Sweden as well as
a correlation between influxes in refugees, international and national crises, and rise in anti
immigrant sentiment. Socialist democracies in Scandinaviawere brought about in correlation with
the Nordic model of governance, also known as Nordic capitalism or Nordic social democracy. A
prevalent system of governance since the 1980s, the

The Problem Of Food Industry
1.Addressing the Problem
Too many people pick up food products off of the shelves and put it into their shopping cart without
knowing what exactly it is or what the product has been through. After watching an absolutely
disturbing documentary called Food Inc. I started to feel strongly about the problems of the Food
Industry. The problem is that our food is no longer being produced in an all American farm, but in
dirty abusive factories. Not only is the food unhealthy for us after all of the processing, but the
workers and animals are being abused. I know that I single handily cannot change all of the
problems with the twisted food industry, but I know that I can do my part by making others aware
so that they can make sure that they can make fully informed decisions about what they are putting
into their carts at the grocery store and eventually into their bodies.
In the past fifty years, there has been such a vast change in the Industrial Food Industry. Food
went from being grown naturally to being processed and packaged for convenience and
cheapness. This is where the problem starts, and the greed for money is to blame. The industry
has been altered in order to find convenience in making product faster because we all know, time
is money. It has been altered in a manner of scamming to get all you can out of as little as
possible to of course, save money. It has all become a game of money and profit rather than right
and wrong and I have found more than enough examples to

Analysis of Internet Protocols and Infrastructure Essay
Analysis of Internet Protocols and Infrastructure Introduction:
Network: Anything reticulated or decussated at equal distances, with interstices between the
intersections. A Dictionary of the English Language
SECTION : 1
1.1 WHAT IS A NETWORK?
A) What is a network?
A network is simply a collection of machines connected in some way that allows them to
communicate with each other and share information. To do this the machines have to be connected
in some way that allows communication, and have an agreed upon a language to talk when they do
communicate.
Components of a network might include individual hosts, some form of communications hardware,

В·WAN (wide area network)
Much larger than a LAN and all machines are not directly connected. WANs will generally have a
lower throughput than a LAN. All of the LANs on the CQU campus connect and form a WAN.
1.4 SOME MORE DEFINITIONS
Like any field of computing, networking has its own terminology. This section provides definitions
for some of the terms you ll come across.
В·Packets and datagrams
Many networking protocols transmit information as packets. Information being sent across the
network is divided into small (hundreds of bytes usually) chunks of data, called packets. The
networking software at the sending end will break the outgoing data into packets. When the packets
arrive at their destination the networking software on the receiving machine will put them all back
together.
In some cases not all the packets will arrive at the destination using the same route. The packets
may also arrive out of order, packet 50 might arrive before packet 49. The networking software
handles all of this.
Under TCP/IP packets are often referred to as datagrams. Ethernet, on type of networking
hardware, refers to packets as frames
В·Routing
The art of deciding which route data from one machine takes to get to another. In many cases their
are multiple different possible routes that can be taken and the routing software must decide which
to take.

Japanese Discrimination In Ww2 Essay
From the 1930 s to 1940 s millions of ethnic groups experienced unjust persecution stemming from
prejudice and racism. Although we often remember this time for the discrimination the Jews faced
from Nazi Germany, we must also remember the unsubstantiated targeting and imprisonment of
Japanese as well as other ethnicities in America. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Japanese
Americans faced persecution at the hands of the U.S. military, mostly on the West Coast of the
United States. Executive Order 9906, issued and signed by Franklin D. Roosevelt, vested
unwavering amounts of power into the U.S. military, who disproportionately targeted Japanese,
forced them out of their homes, and placed them in internment camps.
For Americans, the day of December 7th, 1941 lives in infamy. The attack on Pearl Harbor by
Japan ushered the United States into joining World War II and an era of suspicion. After the
bombing, many Americans, especially government officials, became wary of citizens of Japanese

Scarface Film Analysis
The Gangster film Scarface (DePalma) is about the rise and eventual fall of Cuban immigrant, Tony
Montana. Throughout the film the viewer witnesses how Tony Montana goes from a criminal in
Cuba to a drug overlord in America. The average viewer cannot connect to the arc of Tony
Montana. But, the average viewer can connect to what Tony Montana is working for, the American
dream. Brain DePalma chooses purposefully to have a hyper masculine, narcissistic, megalomaniac
immigrant as the main character of a story of American dream. In Scarface, DePalma show the
universality of the American dream. By utilizing various filming techniques, DePalma shows how
the American dream is available for everyone. DePalma utilizes zooming and filmcuts to show how
the American dream is for everyone. Scarface, following the traditional film three act narrative
structure, ends it second act with Tony Montana immediately after executing his old boss. The
camera opens on a close up of Tony Montana. The camera then cuts to a shot of a moving blimp
saying, The World is Yours . Before the blimp s message can move to an advertisement, the
camera then cuts back to Tony Montana, holds for a few seconds, the zooms out to a long shot
encompassing the entire house. DePalma purposefully chooses to film this scene this way.
Opening on a close up of Tony Montana show the audience that he is the focus of the scene. When
the camera cuts to the slogan on the blimp the audience enters the eyes of Tony Montana for cut.
They see the slogan the same way Tony Montana sees it. When the camera zooms out and shows
the entire house and Tony Montana s new wife, the audience understands that Tony Montana now
has everything he could ever want. By keeping Tony Montana in the center of the frame, the
audience can remember Tony Montana from the beginning of the film and see how far he has
come. The audience can then see that Tony Montana has achieved the American dream. DePalma
utilizes zooming and film cuts to show how the American dream is for everyone. In addition to
panning and zooming, DePalma also utilizes long takes to show how the American dream is for
everyone. The average shot length, or the average of the length of all the shots in a film, in

Reflection Paper On Nutrition
Nutrition can be part of a major role of improving your overall body composition and health. I
decided to write about the topic nutrition because, we were assigned to track our eating habits on
Super Tracker for seven days. They set up for you, the recommended portion size, based on your
height, age and weight. Super Tracker taught me a valuable lesson about keeping portion sizes
in mind, and checking labels because just because the label says it has fiber or something, it
doesn t necessary mean it does; it can have more added sugars than fibers. Now, I know how
much calories I should take in everyday and what I need to improve on because I had lot of
nutrients, mineral and vitamins that was under the recommend amount that I needed. With this
Super Tracker website, it made me realize that I need to eat healthier, because I am at risk of
having lots of health problems in the future, if I continue to eat the way I do. Looking at my
report really made me realize that maybe because I was so low/over on mostly everything, that
therefore it is the cause of my daily headaches and why I feel weak and dizzy mostly every day
of the week. The report indicated that I was over on saturated fats, under my calorie intake, low
on dairy and fruit intake and many more. As I was doing my research, eating more fruits will
improve my sources of nutrients, including potassium, fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C and folate.
The nutrients in fruit are vital for health and maintenance for my body. The potassium in fruit
can reduce my risk of heart disease and stroke. Also, according to my dietary report, I am over
with my saturated fats, as I stated above. Eating too much total fat (especially saturated fat and
trans fat), cholesterol, or sodium may increase my risk of certain chronic diseases, such as heart
disease, some cancers, or high blood pressure. Therefore, because of how badly my report came
out, it was an eye opener. I want to find ways on how to improve my nutritionand maintain it and
what the better outcomes are for maintaining good nutrition. In order to improve my nutrition, I
will need to change my diet by taking small steps every day. My dietary nutrition report stated that
I am over my added sugars, so to decrease my

Visit Of The Mcdonald s On Okeechobee Boulevard
For this assignment I chose to visit the McDonald s on Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm
Beach and the Chick Fil A on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard in West Palm Beach. I visited
McDonald s first just after what could be considered the dinner rush. When walking into the
store the first thing I noticed was the floor was fairly dirty, especially near the trash receptacles.
There were clearly visible items of food that had fallen off of people s trays as they attempted to
clear their trays off. I got into the line to order and noticed that there were three people ahead of
me. There was only one McDonald s employee working the registers while I saw another
standing by on their cell phone. I believe the second employee not working the registers was a
manager. She was unaware of the line that had grown and when she looked up she signed into a
register to help. I had gone into the store with the intention of only ordering a sweet tea, but if I
were to have been offered an item I would buy it. I gave my order to the manager of only a sweet
tea and she gave me my total. It was interesting to see that the manager did not try to upsell my
order as I was only getting a $1 drink. As the drinks were a self service, I went to go get the
sweet tea and found they were out of sweet tea. I informed the manager and she said they would
get another one out. Rather than get a different drink I decided to wait to see how long it would
take the staff to replace the sweet tea. Once the manager told

Maltese Falcon
The Maltese Falcon, was not only a detective film, but a film that displayed many different aspects
of the female and the male character in the movie. The film was more than a story, but a story that
explored the ideas of the detective genre and the different characteristics of femininity and
masculinity. It also brought forth subjects of sexual desires and the greediness of money. The
characters and the visual motifs in the film contributed to the developing of the plot and assisted in
creating a more detective and genderoriented film. In the film, The Maltese Falcon, the role of men

Symbolism InThe Lamb, By William Blake
The poem The Lamb written by William Blake is a part of his collection of poems called Songs
of Innocence. His outlook on life when writing this collection of poems was optimistic and
showed his great appreciation for life and especially nature. In this poem, which is pastoral in
nature, Blake uses imagery to emphasize the innocence (bordering on naivety) that he sees in
the world. This works in tandem with Blake s pleasant diction to create a tone of comfort and
well being, which reflects the optimistic point of view that Blake had on life. Additionally the
religious symbolism throughout the poem highlights the love that the speaker as well Blake feels
towards nature and all living beings. Through the pleasant diction, the imagery of innocence and
the religious symbolism, Blake spreads his message and belief that all aspects of life are pure and
are deserving of love because they were all created by a benevolent and generous god. Blake
consistently chooses words that create a feeling of safety and welcoming. In the opening stanza
Blake creates an overall sense of well being and comfort. First, he describes the lamb s setting;
Blake illustrates a stream by which the lamb feeds. By doing this right away, Blake subtly
incorporates the idea of nature which is characteristic of pastoral poems. Blake views nature as a
beautiful work of art which deserves to be appreciated, this is reflected in his choice of the word
stream, as opposed to another body of water such as a

The Compact Theory, which mostly designed by QuГ©bec Nationalist, indeed, has been the

Act those expansive matters fittingly treated nationally, like defence and post office, were under
the federal government, while controls over property, local issues, districts, and most private law
matters went to the provinces. The setting of the constitution was a hierarchy system from the
colonial office to provincial legislatures . The compact theory lets us believe, that the provincial
legislature were the privilege voice and the means of the expression of the people of those
provinces. The federal government does not represent a voice of Ontarian or people of QuГ©bec.
Most Canadian, believe that provinces represent more closely the interest of each their own people

The founder of BNA Act created two levels of governments out of political expediency, as a
political convenience. They could not have two countries, but rather, they could have two levels of
government instead. The problem is that by creating two levels of government, the British did not
realize that they are going to give an objective, tangible structure that can be the base of compact
theory. After Confederation, QuГ©bec premiers HonorГ© Mercier and Oliver Mowat allied to
built the strongest record of provincial rights advocacy . Both premiers advocated for compact
theory which compared the BNA Act to a settlement that could be changed only by the unanimous

An Argument Analysis Of Mozart s Requiem
In the last decade, the problem of Mozart s Requiem has divided itself into three categories which
most of the scholars have majored on in an attempt to come up with a clear analysis of the
arguments and various evidence. The three main problems include the authenticity problem viewed
in a narrower sense, the instrumentation problem and the dating problem. According to Friedrich
Blume, the question of authenticity comes in when the question of which parts were completed by
Mozart and the other parts that were completed by the another composer. It is hard to determine if
the other composer followed the concerns that Mozart would wish to be addressed. The issue of
instrumentation also becomes of concern in the sense that whether the Sussmayr s manuscript of
the whole Requiemuses the instrumentation that Mozart had indicated or whether it is out of the
creativity of the master. The dating problem was whether Mozart finished the work when he was
on his deathbed or whether he had composed the Requiem before he fell ill. Such problems of the
Requiem could only be answered by his close friends who died before the controversy arose.
Looking further into this investigation this document will analyze the problems of the Requiem
based on arguments from the five scholars: Thomas Bauman, Paul Moseley, Simon Keefe,
Christoph Wolff, and Richard Maunder.
Bauman provides a thoughtful analysis of the completion of Mozart s Requiem by Richard
Maunder. He bases his argument on the fact that

More than 70 years ago, the very first superheroes debuted in the dire times of the Great
Depression and the early years of World War II. Their names became legend Superman and
Batman or as he was then known, the Bat Man), Wonder Woman, Captain America and they re
still with us today. A new exhibit at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles celebrates these
icons from the Golden Age of Comic Books. Through a collection of rare original artwork and
comics, the exhibit explores how a group of mostly Jewish artists created the costumed heroes
who came to symbolize the hopes of a beleaguered nation. ln the 1930s, the American Dream had
become a nightmare, and I think comic books and superheroes in particular provided an escapist
form of entertainment that allowed the American public to go into a fantasy world where all the
ills of the world were righted by these largerВ than life heroes, says Erin Clancy, a curator at the
Skirball. Guest curator Jerry Robinson not only organized the exhibit, he s a part of it. The comic

Drugs are a problem of epidemic proportions. They kill and destroy lives. In the 5 years leading
up to the trial of Manual Antonio Noriega, cocaine related deaths increased nationwide by 500
percent, and heroin related deaths in the United States increased 64 percent[4]. Drugs are also a
major cause of infant fatalities and birth defects. A study of 95 children who died before the age
of 5 shows that in three quarters of those cases, at least one of the parent?s abuse drugs. In 1987,
the New York?s Harlem Hospital, one of the few hospitals in New York Sate to keep detailed
figures declared that over 400 babies tested positive for drugs at birth[5]. In addition, it was
estimated that in one day, 5,000 Americans will use cocaine or crack for the very first time and at
least 20 million Americans have already tried cocaine while at least 1 million Americans are addicts.
As a result of statistics such as those presented above, President Reagan declared a ?war on drugs?
in the early 1980?s. In 1983, Congress enacted the Rangel Gilman Hawkins amendment. This
amendment requires the State Department annually to report on the efforts of major drug exporting
countries. In theory, these reports would act to curtail production. If a country fails to make
reasonable efforts at curtailment, the sanction is the loss of economic aid. In March of 1988, the
State Department reported to the President as the act required, however, the report only

Pros And Cons Of Filibusters
On the other hand, there are a lot of cons to filibusters too. It is true that having the power to
filibuster helps ensure the voices of the minority but it can also mean that having the power to
filibuster ensures the tyranny of the minority. Because the size of the senate is not based on the
size of the population of each state, every state gets two senators. It is now possible according to
Jean Edward Smith, for the senators representing the 34 million people who live in the 21 least
populous states a little more than 11 percent of the nation s population to nullify the wishes of the
representatives of the remaining 88 percent of Americans. (Smith, 2009). This is completely the
opposite of what the framers wanted, they wanted the government to represent the people not a

Imagery In Hamlet By William Shakespeare
Imagery can be defined as the use of vivid descriptions that evoke sense impressions by literal or
figurative reference to distinguishable or actual objects, scenes, actions, or states. Imagery can refer
to the literal landscape or characters described in a narrative or the theoretical concepts an author
employs (OWL). William Shakespeare was an author who frequently used imagery throughout
writings, and this made him among the top authors in the world. In his work of Hamlet, he wrote
about the poison, disease, and decay. This has a deeper meaning than the obvious that would be
assumed after reading that statement. Imagery in writing enables the reader to think deeper to
understand the real meaning of the text. This paper will evaluate the use of imagery of poison,
disease, and decay in Hamlet as written by William Shakespeare.
To begin with, the use of imagery is clearly seen when Marcellus says, something is rotten in the
state of Denmark (Shakespeare 637). He was talking about the tragedy which occurred in
Hamlet, the prince of Denmark. The story of Hamlet is set around the king s place and in
Elsinore which is a city in Denmark. One morning a ghost, which looked like King Hamlet who
had recently just passed away, entered Elsinore Castle. The ghost could only be seen by two
guard men of the city. It was believed that King Hamlet was murdered by his brother Claudius.
After Hamlet s death Claudius immediately succeeded the throne and married the king s widow.
The ghost notified the two guard men that there would be revenge to whoever killed Hamlet and
took his wife and that it was the responsibility of the prince to avenge his father s death.
Again, the rotting is compared to decay to mean that there is a rapid spread of a communicable
disease which is incurable and contaminating the courts and Denmark as a country. Corruption is
one of the diseases in this case as termed by William Shakespeare (Charney 5). It is well known
that severe sickness or disease routinely leads to death which is why he used the image of a
disease to portray these irresponsible aspects of behavior. These descriptions enable the reader to
create a picture of the deplorable relationships among the different characters and the

Disadvantages Of Space Colonization
Space colonization (also called space settlement, or extraterrestrial colonization) is permanent
human habitation off planet Earth.
Many arguments have been made for space colonizationThe two most common are survival of
human civilization and the biosphere in case of a planetary scale disaster (natural or man made),
and the vast resources in space for expansion of human society.
No space colonies have been built so far. Currently, the building of a space colony would present
a set of huge challenges both technological and economic. Space settlements would have to
provide for nearly all (or all) the material needs of hundreds or thousands of humans, in an
environment out in space that is very hostile to human life. They would involve technologies, such
as controlled ecological life support systems, that have yet to be developed in any meaningful way.
They would also have to deal with the as yet unknown issue of how humans would behave and
thrive in such places long term. Because of the present cost of sending anything from the surface of
the Earth into orbit (around $2,500 per pound to orbit, expected to further decrease)[2] a space
colony would currently be a massively expensive project.
There are no plans for building one by any large scale organization, either government or private.
However, there have been many proposals, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the human species on Earth, a self sufficient colony could reverse colonize Earth and restore human
civilization. The author and journalist William E. Burrows and the biochemist Robert Shapiro

Why Does A Teacher Need Be A Good Manager
Why does a teacher need to be a good manager ? A teacher needs to be a good manager to ensure
learning occurs. Without good management skills, learning may not be achieved and the
classroom could fall into chaos. To be a good manager in a classroom the teacher needs several
tools. These shall be explored below. The classroom is its own ecosystem. The features of this
ecosystem revolve around creating a positive atmosphere for learning (Karnovsky, 2015). However,
this does not occur overnight, it takes time and energy from the teacher and the students to develop
this atmosphere. One method to achieve this, is a student behavioral agreement. This consists of
four core concepts; student s rights and responsibilities, classroom... Show more content on

This agreement which helps create the classroom ecosystem, is also a strategy in preventing
problematic behavior. However, there are many more strategies which can be used in different
parts of the lesson to minimize and prevent misbehavior. According to Rudolf Dreikurs (Crandall,
2012), there are four goals of misbehavior. These are; attention, power, revenge and assumed
disability. To prevent this from occurring the teacher must create a classroom with a sense of
belonging, cohesive bonding and appropriate instructional skills. However, doing this does not
ensure that they will behave, it is better to assume that all students will misbehave at some point if
given the chance. When students do misbehave, teachers can employ the Bumps Model to react
appropriately to the level of misbehavior. The Bumps Model is comprised of 10 levels. The bump
is the student s escalation. It is important that the teacher can distinguish between what is effective
and ineffective to select the best method (Bennett, 1994). At Bump level one the teacher is
responding to students when they first cause a disruption, the teacher s response will be low key,
e.g.; proximity, the look, and saying the student s name. This follows Kounin (1970) slowdowns, in
which the teacher keeps flowing through the material and not letting a small misbehavior get in the
way of the teaching. The teacher s response

Method Acting
The Magic Touch of the Method Actor Method acting allows actors to go beyond the conventional
and practical way to act and make the work more human, more alive, more exciting, more amusing,
and more entertaining. According to its critics, Method acting counteracts the original form of
acting because the actorconcentrates more on himself rather than the development of the character.
Despite this claim, Method acting continues to be the key technique actors use to create in
themselves the thoughts and feelings of their characters, so as to develop convincing performances.
Evoked by Constantin Stanislavski at the Moscow Art Theatrein the early 20th century, Method
acting quickly spread on to the stage and screen at the end of the 40s and early 50s and has

Stanislavski wanted a stage where his audience would be so involved forgetting they were an

class we have read and discussed the different ways the justice system has failed to perform
justice. We are taught to look at all the evidence presented to us before making a judgmental call
and that is not what the State of Maryland did. They use unjustifiable evidences and statements
that just don t seem to add up correctly. For the sake of Adnan and his family, I truly hope he
seeks justice and Hae s true killer is

Witchcraft Vs Religion
Witchcraft In this world there are many different types of religions. Furthermore, I identify as a
Christian. Meanwhile, my grandma is a JehovahВґs Witness, my uncle is Mormon, and I had an
aunt that was Catholic. There are so many beliefs and many people still are not educated about the
other side that they typically practice against. One that many people interpret the wrong way or
know little to nothing about. One that no one considers to be a religion. One that many see as
different and disturbing. Witchcraft. Most people see witchcraft as evil or immoral. In most cases
this is true, especially in fiction movies, shows, or books.. The other side is neither good nor bad
they just want to live their lives different than most people.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Naturalism is the view that there is no transcendent reality to such as God that can intervene in the
natural world. ВЁChristianity is monotheistic. Christianity claims there is a god and no one of us
is he. Witchcrafts opposite, ВЁWe are the nature of the gods and fully realized man or women is
channel divinity.ВЁ So, Christianity and Witchcraft are basically polar opposites. With that being
said, it doesn t mean either one is true nor better. It is all about your mentality and the people you
surround yourself with. ThatВґs why it is best to have a freedom of religion. Another good quote,
ВЁNotice that the term practice is often used with the term witchcraft. What this tells us is that, for
many, Wiccais a much as someone does as it is what someone believes.ВЁ I believe this goes for
Christianity as well. We practice praising God every week, reading the bible, and trying to live
the right way. Witchcraft is similar in that way because they practice every day to live better in
THEIR own way, practice their own books and such.
Both religions have a long history and have made it to todayВґs world, that shows you that
Christianity and Witchcraft have been used for a long time and are still being practiced. ВЁIf
you go far enough back, all our ancestors practiced religions that had neither creeds or dogmas,
neither prophets nor holy books. These religions were based on the celebrations of the seasonal
cycles of nature.ВЁ Witchcraft has came a long way from our ancestors because back then they
had it all memorized plus more people were fond of the religion. Today, most write down things to
remember or people buy a

Positive Behavior Intervention Plan ( Pbip )
The objective of this Positive Behavior Intervention Plan (PBIP) is to provide John the tools and
support necessary to replace the behavior in question and implement, the prevent, teach, and
reinforce strategies and recommendations. The desired outcome of this PTR plan is for John to
substitute the flicking behaviorwith the use of a squeezy ball and or personal schedule/chart.
For the prevent component of the behavioral intervention Environmental Supports and Increased
Non contingent Reinforcement techniques were selected. These techniques were chosen in order to
help support John refrain from engaging in the socially unacceptable flicking behavior. In order to
prevent John from engaging in the flicking behavior, the teacher should equip John with a squeezy
ball. The teacher should chat with John upon his arrival and encourage him to utilize his squeezy
ball. According to research, To replace maladaptive behaviors, are sound educational choices
grounded in learning theory and supported by empirical evidence (Dooley, Wilczenski, Torem,
2001, p. 58). Providing the optimal antecedent conditions will help support John as he acclimates
himself to the replacement behavior. Teachers and staff should be encouraging, supportive, and
implement the prevent strategies when they are most likely to occur. In John s case this would be
in the morning, afternoon, and arrival. John should also be provided with an individual schedule
and behavior chart. Each morning John s

Analysis Of Bio-Hydrogen Production And Phosphorus...
Bio hydrogen production and phosphorus recovery in microbial electrolysis cell with statistical
optimization by response surface methodology
Abstract
Concurrent hydrogen (H2) production and phosphorus (P) recovery were investigated in dual
chamber microbial electrolysis cells (MECs). The aim of the study was to explore and understand
the influence of applied voltage and influent COD concentration on concurrent H2 production and
P recovery in MEC. P was efficiently precipitated at the cathode chamber and the precipitated
crystals were verified as struvite, using X ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy
analysis. The maximum P precipitation efficiency achieved by the MEC was 94%, and the
maximum H2 production rate was 0.31m3/m3/d. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The precipitation of these components is also highly dependent on pH, where struvite starts to
precipitate at pH 8 (Doyle and Parsons, 2002). The most common methods for P recovery as
struvite are chemical addition and carbon dioxide stripping through aeration. These processes are
effective for struvite precipitation; however, the operation cost is too high. Using chemical
addition to raise the solution s pH can account for up to 97% of struvite cost (Jaffer et al., 2002;
Morales et al., 2013). Hydrogen as one promising alternative clean energy source has attracted
international attention in recent years (Datar et al., 2007; Guo et al., 2010; Kumar et al., 2016).
Microbial electrolysis cells (MECs) are a new and promising approach for hydrogen (H2)
production from organic matter, including wastewater and other renewable resources. In MECs,
electrochemically active bacteria oxidize organic matter and generate CO2, electrons and protons.
The bacteria transfer the electrons to the anode and the protons are released into the solution. The
electrons then travel through a wire to a cathode and combine with the free protons in the solution
to produce hydrogen gas (Logan et al., 2008). The consumption of protons at the cathode chamber
increases solution pH (Moussa et al., 2006). Based on this hypothesis, the cathode chamber in the
MEC can be used to

Mr Ferdinand Porsche Dbq
This historical investigation is focused on two areas, firstly to what extent and impact did the
great Nazi engineer Ferdinand Porsche had on Germany s effort to gain power throughout history.
A critical analysis of the actions of Ferdinand Porsche and the Porsche company during the rise
and fall of the Nazi empire during 1933 to 1945 in Germanyand Europe will be looked at.
Secondly, to what extent was Porsche s products engineering to blame for this fall. However the
German economy had already bled out and could not survive even though they had the brilliance of
Ferdinand Porsche and his engineering on their side. This historical investigation has found clearly
that Ferdinand Porsche did indeed have a great impact on Germany s efforts and... Show more

As a result of this a different viewpoint is achieved, whilst assisting Germany and the Nazis he
also helped assist the UUSR with weapons. Though this source does not have a reliable stem and
does not seem to be backed by any other grounded proof.
Source D also bring in another aspect. That is that Ferdinand Porsche was at a small extent to
blame for the fall of this regime. The evidence is there and should not be neglected. The argument
put forth is one that the calibre of Mr Ferdinand Porsche s weapons were far inferior to that of the
allies and were not advanced enough. Due to this fault the German regime was deteriorating as they
could not fend of their competitors.
However these viewpoints are weak and are simply not logical. A man of calibre such as Mr
Ferdinand Porsche would not have aided the USSR with weaponry, simply due to his personal
relationship to Adolf Hitler and his strong connection to Nazism. But indeed the third aspect
mentioned should definitely be taken into account. That is that the caliber and capacity of his
weapons were inferior to that of the Western allies which intern puts a minute extent of the blame
of the Nazi empire on Mr

Faustian Bargain Analysis
A Faustian Bargain is a complicated idea which translates in popular terms to selling one s soul
to the devil. This definition consists of four layers. The first layer consists of two different
aspects. The first aspect is doing something evil such as making a deal with the devil in order for
personal gain. The second aspect is in pursuit of a lofty ideal. In pursuing the lofty ideal; the
ideal is corrupted because of the methods to achieve it. The second layer is an unwillingness or
inability to see things as they really are, to see evil as evil. The third layer is the felling of guilt
after making a deal with the devil. The final layer is a third party attempting to convince the person
from completing a Faustian Bargain. Within this layer one must seek whether they are a victim of
external or internal influence. Several common elements of a Faustian Bargain emerge when we
compare Button Button and Dr. Faustus. Those components include motivations of lofty ideals or
self interest, the inability to see things as they really are, remorse, and the persuasion of an external
or internal influence.
Though Norma and Faustus both make a bargain with the devil, their motivations differ. Norma s
motivations are based on self interest. Barnet states that the common definition of a Faustian
Bargain is that some people are so eager to gain immediate power that they engage in actions that
they know are evil (Barnet, vii). Norma s self interest leads her to engage in evil

Argument Essay Draft 2
To Hit or Not to Hit In 1973, Major League Baseball accepted Rule 5.11, also known as the
Designated Hitter (DH) rule. This rule allows a player, who does not play a defensive position,
to hit in place of the pitcher. The rule was created because pitchers, most of whom are notoriously
bad hitters, were basically a free out for the opposing team. However, for some ungodly reason, the
new DH rule was only established in one of the two leagues in the MLB. As a result, the American
League, the league using the DH rule, has consistently produced higher batting averages since 1973
than the National League. When two teams from different leagues play each other, they... Show

By expanding the DH rule to the National League, the MLB could create and extend more careers
for players just like Martinez. Many people against the designated hitter believe having a DH ruins
the integrity of the game. They think that teams should need to strategize by having pitchers
bunt runners to the next base or force managers to make the tough decision of when to substitute
a hitter for the pitcher. People opposed to the DH rule believe it is wrong to change the rules
because this game has been played the same way for more than 100 years. This is both a closed
minded and ancient way of thinking. Rules are meant to evolve and change over time to adjust
to the times. The days of sacrificing at bats to bunt runners over are over. The sacrifice bunt has
been virtually destroyed by new statistics and metrics that show how inefficient it is. The game
is in need of more offense and expanding the DH rule to both leagues solves that problem and is
a necessary evolvement to the sport. Over the past few years, pitching has been dominant and the
officials in the MLB offices have looked for new ways to increase offensive production. For the
2017 season, the MLB has attempted to fix this problem by implementing a new type of baseball
with a harder exterior and smaller laces which increase the distance and reduce drag (also
increasing distance) of batted balls. As a result, home run totals across the league have increased

Emotional Analysis Of Ernest Hemingway s A Clean,...
In his short story A Clean, Well Lighted Place, Ernest Hemingway, uses his usual style of elegant,
yet unembellished, prose to depict one late night interaction between an old man, a young waiter,
and an older waiter. The story takes place at a cafГ© in Madrid, during the era following the Lost
Generation and is apparent, given the contrasting perspectives of the characters. The part of the
story where the young waiter refills the old man s brandy with an agitated demeanor and the old
man desires nothing more than to drink continuously, as he does on a nightly basis, illuminates the
broader concerns of the of the story. This passage, although centered around the story s supporting
characters, unveils the idea of nothingness before the reader s introduction to the word nada.
Hemingway s A Clean, Well Lighted Place, is a revelation to the elaborate complexity of emotional
fulfillment versus the existential crisis of spiritual and emotional emptiness, between the young and
the old, throughout this particular generational gap. Throughout the passage, we see the young
waiter go through a wide range of emotions, beginning with him feeling irritated, which becomes
perceivable after his initial statement: a terse What do you want? directed at the old man (153). He
then becomes condescending, telling the old man that he will be drunk if he continues drinking,
knowing that he cannot hear him and that getting drunk is, evidently, the old man s intentions
(154). Next, he tells

Does Temperature Affects Fruit Juice
Research question
Does temperature affect the rate pectinase produces juice?
Introduction Fruit juices are popular among consumers as they contain many vital vitamins or
antioxidants. But before they go on the shelves, the factory has to produce them. One
of the earliest memories of my childhood has been juice. I remember waking up at the
crack of dawn early in the morning to go pick fresh apples from our apple tree in our
backyard to make fresh apple juice for breakfast with my grandmother. To this day, that
same recipe is still used today though my family. Seeing my grandmother boil the apple
slices over her old cooktop, made me wonder how factories produced apple juice at
such massive rates as I knew they weren t going ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Errors
During trial one, the original funnel was too small. The applesauce was at the tip of the
funnel, causing liquid to overflow over the funnel, spilling. Another error in this
experiment was not specifying how cold to freeze the applesauce in the freezer.
Different temperatures could have affected the rate of liquid formed.
Conclusion
This experiment is a good representation of what goes on in fruit juice factories. Overall,
frozen applesauce did affect the pectinases rate of diffusion. This could be a cause of
the temperature in the applesauce, being too low, freezing the solution mixed with it.
Evaluation
The data presented is reliable. The minor errors shouldn t really have an effect on the
outcome of this experiment as the trials proved similar

Moore state, The launch of the Low Earth orbit satellite, Sputnik 1, by the USSR (Soviet Union)
on October 4th, 1957 may possibly mark the beginning of Global Positioning System (GPS)
Technology (Kumar Moore, 2002, p. 59). Scientist working for the Department of Defense
(DOD) discovered that they could track Sputnik 1 based on the signal strength of its radio. This
in turn led scientist to theorize, that it would be possible to obtain one s position on earth by
interpreting a satellites radio signal, with the satellites orbit (Kumar Moore, 2002). In 1964, the
first successful test of acquiring a location based on satellite technology, was successfully
performed by the United States Navy utilizing a submarine. According to Kumar and Moore, It
required only one satellite but, for that reason, a reading could only be taken roughly every 35 45
minutes. The submarine had to be stationary (Kumar Moore, 2002, p. 61). This test was the
precursor to what we now know as the Global Positioning

  • 2. W.H. Auden s Poems and Homosexuality Essay W.H. Auden s Poems and Homosexuality W. H. Auden published This lunar beauty in 1930; he published Now through night s caressing grip in 1935, and he published Lay your sleeping head, my love in 1937 (Auden 16; 41; 51). [I]t has been argued that the first part of the twentieth century s culture is dominated by attempts to keep homosexuality hidden, ... [and a] number of homosexual writers in the period maintain public silence about their sex lives, and dramatize homosexual themes indirectly, if at all (Caserio). While it s unclear whether Auden s abovementioned 1930s poems dramatize homosexual themes, they do share obscure settings and references to wandering, clandestine lovers who seek healing, safety, and freedom. (16 24) The soul didn t have the initial goal of only being able to express its love under the faint light of the moon, and when this faint light changes to the glaring light of the sun, the soul is sorrowful that its love can no longer be openly expressed. It finds temporary healing in this lunar beauty, but only till it pass[es;] after that, the soul once again has to be fickle and unwillingly keep a measured distance from its love. • 5. Freedom Speech By not allowing speech that is racially bigoted or offensive on campus we are sending the message that that behavior and ideology is not accepted in the public sphere, we are not allowing it to become a norm, and are thus discouraging and alienating those that want to use that kind of harmful language. Delgado writes, When social pressures and rewards for racism are absent.... prejudiced persons may even refrain from discriminating behavior to escape social disapproval, (148). We can see examples throughout history of how protecting the free speech of racists and white nationalists has caused injury to marginalized groups. One such example would be with the court case Village of Skokie v. National Socialist Party of America; in which Nazi s wanted to hold a peaceful public assembly in the town of Skokie, Illinois, where the majority of the citizens were of Jewish descent, and at least ten percent were Holocaust survivors (Adams 277). The Supreme Court of Illinois originally ruled that the Nazi Partywouldn t be allowed to march or display the swastika, but when the case reached the Court of Appeals it was decided that this ruling went against the First Amendment. Even though the Court of Appeals agreed that for the Skokie Villages Jewish community it would be a traumatic experience seeing the Nazi Party s display, the swastika was considered a form of symbolic speech and therefore was protected speech (Delgado 134). • 6. Examples Of Lexical Cohesion This paper tackles how cohesion can be effective to make the text more united. Both cohesive devices; lexical and grammatical, have a powerful role in giving the text texture. Lexical devices are repetition, antonyms, synonyms, and general words. On the other hand, grammatical devices are reference, conjunction, and ellipsis. Both of them provide the text harmony and meaning. Lexical Cohesion Lexical cohesion occurs when two words are semantically related to each other such as, repetition, synonyms, antonyms, general words, and superordinate. Firstly, repetition occurs when one word is mentioned more than one time throughout the text. To illustrate, the word and is repeated about 22 times in the text , the word her is repeated around 15 times in paragraphs number 1, 2, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 13, the morpheme mother is repeated 5 times in paragraphs number 1, 8, and 14, the pronoun I ... Additive conjunctions, also in paragraph number 6, or in paragraph number 3, and in paragraphs number 4, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14, are used when the writer wants to add more information to his idea. Enzymes can be seen as proteins of adjustments of chemical reactions, and they are macromolecules. Enzymes are made from amino acids. When an enzyme if established, it is produced by linking combined between 100 and 1,000 amino acids in a very particular and distinctive sequence (How stuff works, 2017). Their 3D structure determines their function. Enzymes are essential to life because they accelerate metabolic reactions to a very great expansion, but do not experience any change in themselves (WebFinance, 2017). Catalyst helps the reaction transpire rapidly or more regularly. Enzymes can make some positive charged making the reaction easier to happen. The molecule that is going to bind with the enzymes is called substrate. A substance that speeds up chemical reaction without being a reactant is called a catalyst (Khan Academy, 2017). • 8. The Typographic Mind By Neil Postman In the beginning of chapter four, The Typographic Mind, Neil Postman delivers an impressive narrative argument about the impact of print information culture on 17th and 19th century minds. Postman makes a few claims with respect to the contrasts between the written and spoken word. In this essay, there are four qualities of the typographic mind: attention span, listening ability, knowledge of issues, and literary language. First, Postman discusses attention span in reference to America s first debate between Stephen Douglas and Abraham Lincoln on August 21 1858. Attention span means the length of time during which a person can concentrate on a subject or idea. Postman first illustrates about people with disciplined minds who are able to attend and listen to a 4 5 hour lecture. People at that time can listen and gather information, so they are able to comprehend and structure sentences. One debate lasted three hours while another in 1858 went seven. Postman guarrateeds that Douglas and Lincoln who wrote speeches in advance are pure print and they have the power of typography to get the audience attention because their language was clear. The audiences who attended the debate must have had an equally extraordinary capacity to comprehend lengthy and complex sentences aurally (45). Much of it seemed either blindingly obvious, or like the moanings of a killjoy who can t bear that televisionis entertaining and that people are unable to process it through the ear , therefore ... You may be wondering who is the director behind this extraordinary movie? The answer to that is Michael Bay, and he has directed many outstanding movies. With Transformersit has now been 2 years since the Autobots have save the Earth from the Decepticons, they are now working with the military to protect the earth. • 11. How The Rising Swedish Democratic Party Is An Acceptable... It is quite common knowledge in North America that the true bastions of liberal, social democracy lie in the north; Scandinavia has in recent years become what neoliberals deem as an acceptable balance between socialism and western democracy. This is supplemented that, according to Forbes and several other periodicals, Scandinavian countries such as Denmarkand Norway tend to rank highest in terms of overall happiness. However these seeming utopias of democracy have stark differences between themselves and North Americans; their populations are substantially lower, tax rates are far higher, and the results of unending migration from the Levant and beyond have resulted in an exponential increase in crime. This has led to a rise in support for right wing parties among a more traditionally socialist region. As seen in articles by Dalstrom and Esaiasson as well as Hinnfors, Spehar and Bucken Knapp, this is not a new phenomenon in Sweden; immigration has been a matter of concern for quite some time in Europe. This paper will seek to establish how the rising Swedish Democratic Party has aggregated decades of social desire within Sweden as well as a correlation between influxes in refugees, international and national crises, and rise in anti immigrant sentiment. Socialist democracies in Scandinaviawere brought about in correlation with the Nordic model of governance, also known as Nordic capitalism or Nordic social democracy. • 14. The Problem Of Food Industry 1.Addressing the Problem Too many people pick up food products off of the shelves and put it into their shopping cart without knowing what exactly it is or what the product has been through. After watching an absolutely disturbing documentary called Food Inc. I started to feel strongly about the problems of the Food Industry. The problem is that our food is no longer being produced in an all American farm, but in dirty abusive factories. Not only is the food unhealthy for us after all of the processing, but the workers and animals are being abused. I know that I single handily cannot change all of the problems with the twisted food industry, but I know that I can do my part by making others aware so that they can make sure that they can make fully informed decisions about what they are putting into their carts at the grocery store and eventually into their bodies. In the past fifty years, there has been such a vast change in the Industrial Food Industry. Food went from being grown naturally to being processed and packaged for convenience and cheapness. This is where the problem starts, and the greed for money is to blame. The industry has been altered in order to find convenience in making product faster because we all know, time is money. It has been altered in a manner of scamming to get all you can out of as little as possible to of course, save money. It has all become a game of money and profit rather than right and wrong and I have found more than enough examples to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This section provides definitions for some of the terms you ll come across. В·Packets and datagrams Many networking protocols transmit information as packets. Information being sent across the network is divided into small (hundreds of bytes usually) chunks of data, called packets. The networking software at the sending end will break the outgoing data into packets. When the packets arrive at their destination the networking software on the receiving machine will put them all back together. In some cases not all the packets will arrive at the destination using the same route. The packets may also arrive out of order, packet 50 might arrive before packet 49. The networking software handles all of this. Under TCP/IP packets are often referred to as datagrams. Ethernet, on type of networking hardware, refers to packets as frames

  • 17. Japanese Discrimination In Ww2 Essay From the 1930 s to 1940 s millions of ethnic groups experienced unjust persecution stemming from prejudice and racism. Although we often remember this time for the discrimination the Jews faced from Nazi Germany, we must also remember the unsubstantiated targeting and imprisonment of Japanese as well as other ethnicities in America. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Japanese Americans faced persecution at the hands of the U.S. military, mostly on the West Coast of the United States. Executive Order 9906, issued and signed by Franklin D. Roosevelt, vested unwavering amounts of power into the U.S. military, who disproportionately targeted Japanese, forced them out of their homes, and placed them in internment camps. For Americans, the day of December 7th, 1941 lives in infamy. The attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan ushered the United States into joining World War II and an era of suspicion. Scarface, following the traditional film three act narrative structure, ends it second act with Tony Montana immediately after executing his old boss. The camera opens on a close up of Tony Montana. The camera then cuts to a shot of a moving blimp saying, The World is Yours . Before the blimp s message can move to an advertisement, the camera then cuts back to Tony Montana, holds for a few seconds, the zooms out to a long shot encompassing the entire house. DePalma purposefully chooses to film this scene this way. Opening on a close up of Tony Montana show the audience that he is the focus of the scene. When the camera cuts to the slogan on the blimp the audience enters the eyes of Tony Montana for cut. They see the slogan the same way Tony Montana sees it. When the camera zooms out and shows the entire house and Tony Montana s new wife, the audience understands that Tony Montana now has everything he could ever want. By keeping Tony Montana in the center of the frame, the audience can remember Tony Montana from the beginning of the film and see how far he has come. The audience can then see that Tony Montana has achieved the American dream. DePalma utilizes zooming and film cuts to show how the American dream is for everyone. • 20. Reflection Paper On Nutrition Nutrition can be part of a major role of improving your overall body composition and health. I decided to write about the topic nutrition because, we were assigned to track our eating habits on Super Tracker for seven days. They set up for you, the recommended portion size, based on your height, age and weight. Super Tracker taught me a valuable lesson about keeping portion sizes in mind, and checking labels because just because the label says it has fiber or something, it doesn t necessary mean it does; it can have more added sugars than fibers. Now, I know how much calories I should take in everyday and what I need to improve on because I had lot of nutrients, mineral and vitamins that was under the recommend amount that I needed. With this Super Tracker website, it made me realize that I need to eat healthier, because I am at risk of having lots of health problems in the future, if I continue to eat the way I do. Looking at my report really made me realize that maybe because I was so low/over on mostly everything, that therefore it is the cause of my daily headaches and why I feel weak and dizzy mostly every day of the week. The report indicated that I was over on saturated fats, under my calorie intake, low on dairy and fruit intake and many more. As I was doing my research, eating more fruits will improve my sources of nutrients, including potassium, fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C and folate. The nutrients in fruit are vital for health and maintenance for my body. The potassium in fruit can reduce my risk of heart disease and stroke. Also, according to my dietary report, I am over with my saturated fats, as I stated above. Eating too much total fat (especially saturated fat and trans fat), cholesterol, or sodium may increase my risk of certain chronic diseases, such as heart disease, some cancers, or high blood pressure. Therefore, because of how badly my report came out, it was an eye opener. I want to find ways on how to improve my nutritionand maintain it and what the better outcomes are for maintaining good nutrition. In order to improve my nutrition, I will need to change my diet by taking small steps every day. My dietary nutrition report stated that I am over my added sugars, so to decrease my ... Visit Of The Mcdonald s On Okeechobee Boulevard For this assignment I chose to visit the McDonald s on Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach and the Chick Fil A on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard in West Palm Beach. I visited McDonald s first just after what could be considered the dinner rush. When walking into the store the first thing I noticed was the floor was fairly dirty, especially near the trash receptacles. There were clearly visible items of food that had fallen off of people s trays as they attempted to clear their trays off. I got into the line to order and noticed that there were three people ahead of me. There was only one McDonald s employee working the registers while I saw another standing by on their cell phone. I believe the second employee not working the registers was a manager. She was unaware of the line that had grown and when she looked up she signed into a register to help. I had gone into the store with the intention of only ordering a sweet tea, but if I were to have been offered an item I would buy it. I gave my order to the manager of only a sweet tea and she gave me my total. It was interesting to see that the manager did not try to upsell my order as I was only getting a $1 drink. As the drinks were a self service, I went to go get the sweet tea and found they were out of sweet tea. I informed the manager and she said they would get another one out. Rather than get a different drink I decided to wait to see how long it would take the staff to replace the sweet tea. Once the manager told ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Symbolism InThe Lamb, By William Blake The poem The Lamb written by William Blake is a part of his collection of poems called Songs of Innocence. His outlook on life when writing this collection of poems was optimistic and showed his great appreciation for life and especially nature. In this poem, which is pastoral in nature, Blake uses imagery to emphasize the innocence (bordering on naivety) that he sees in the world. This works in tandem with Blake s pleasant diction to create a tone of comfort and well being, which reflects the optimistic point of view that Blake had on life. Additionally the religious symbolism throughout the poem highlights the love that the speaker as well Blake feels towards nature and all living beings. Through the pleasant diction, the imagery of innocence and the religious symbolism, Blake spreads his message and belief that all aspects of life are pure and are deserving of love because they were all created by a benevolent and generous god. Blake consistently chooses words that create a feeling of safety and welcoming. In the opening stanza Blake creates an overall sense of well being and comfort. First, he describes the lamb s setting; Blake illustrates a stream by which the lamb feeds. By doing this right away, Blake subtly incorporates the idea of nature which is characteristic of pastoral poems. Blake views nature as a beautiful work of art which deserves to be appreciated, this is reflected in his choice of the word stream, as opposed to another body of water such as a ... • 27. An Argument Analysis Of Mozart s Requiem In the last decade, the problem of Mozart s Requiem has divided itself into three categories which most of the scholars have majored on in an attempt to come up with a clear analysis of the arguments and various evidence. The three main problems include the authenticity problem viewed in a narrower sense, the instrumentation problem and the dating problem. According to Friedrich Blume, the question of authenticity comes in when the question of which parts were completed by Mozart and the other parts that were completed by the another composer. It is hard to determine if the other composer followed the concerns that Mozart would wish to be addressed. The issue of instrumentation also becomes of concern in the sense that whether the Sussmayr s manuscript of the whole Requiemuses the instrumentation that Mozart had indicated or whether it is out of the creativity of the master. The dating problem was whether Mozart finished the work when he was on his deathbed or whether he had composed the Requiem before he fell ill. Such problems of the Requiem could only be answered by his close friends who died before the controversy arose. Looking further into this investigation this document will analyze the problems of the Requiem based on arguments from the five scholars: Thomas Bauman, Paul Moseley, Simon Keefe, Christoph Wolff, and Richard Maunder. Drugs are also a major cause of infant fatalities and birth defects. A study of 95 children who died before the age of 5 shows that in three quarters of those cases, at least one of the parent?s abuse drugs. In 1987, the New York?s Harlem Hospital, one of the few hospitals in New York Sate to keep detailed figures declared that over 400 babies tested positive for drugs at birth[5]. • 31. Imagery In Hamlet By William Shakespeare Imagery can be defined as the use of vivid descriptions that evoke sense impressions by literal or figurative reference to distinguishable or actual objects, scenes, actions, or states. Imagery can refer to the literal landscape or characters described in a narrative or the theoretical concepts an author employs (OWL). William Shakespeare was an author who frequently used imagery throughout writings, and this made him among the top authors in the world. In his work of Hamlet, he wrote about the poison, disease, and decay. This has a deeper meaning than the obvious that would be assumed after reading that statement. Imagery in writing enables the reader to think deeper to understand the real meaning of the text. This paper will evaluate the use of imagery of poison, disease, and decay in Hamlet as written by William Shakespeare. To begin with, the use of imagery is clearly seen when Marcellus says, something is rotten in the state of Denmark (Shakespeare 637). He was talking about the tragedy which occurred in Hamlet, the prince of Denmark. The story of Hamlet is set around the king s place and in Elsinore which is a city in Denmark. One morning a ghost, which looked like King Hamlet who had recently just passed away, entered Elsinore Castle. The ghost could only be seen by two guard men of the city. It was believed that King Hamlet was murdered by his brother Claudius. After Hamlet s death Claudius immediately succeeded the throne and married the king s widow. The ghost notified the two guard men that there would be revenge to whoever killed Hamlet and took his wife and that it was the responsibility of the prince to avenge his father s death. Again, the rotting is compared to decay to mean that there is a rapid spread of a communicable disease which is incurable and contaminating the courts and Denmark as a country. Corruption is one of the diseases in this case as termed by William Shakespeare (Charney 5). It is well known that severe sickness or disease routinely leads to death which is why he used the image of a disease to portray these irresponsible aspects of behavior. These descriptions enable the reader to create a picture of the deplorable relationships among the different characters and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many arguments have been made for space colonizationThe two most common are survival of human civilization and the biosphere in case of a planetary scale disaster (natural or man made), and the vast resources in space for expansion of human society. No space colonies have been built so far. Currently, the building of a space colony would present a set of huge challenges both technological and economic. Space settlements would have to provide for nearly all (or all) the material needs of hundreds or thousands of humans, in an environment out in space that is very hostile to human life. They would involve technologies, such as controlled ecological life support systems, that have yet to be developed in any meaningful way. They would also have to deal with the as yet unknown issue of how humans would behave and thrive in such places long term. Because of the present cost of sending anything from the surface of the Earth into orbit (around $2,500 per pound to orbit, expected to further decrease)[2] a space colony would currently be a massively expensive project. Without good management skills, learning may not be achieved and the classroom could fall into chaos. To be a good manager in a classroom the teacher needs several tools. These shall be explored below. The classroom is its own ecosystem. The features of this ecosystem revolve around creating a positive atmosphere for learning (Karnovsky, 2015). However, this does not occur overnight, it takes time and energy from the teacher and the students to develop this atmosphere. One method to achieve this, is a student behavioral agreement. This agreement which helps create the classroom ecosystem, is also a strategy in preventing problematic behavior. However, there are many more strategies which can be used in different parts of the lesson to minimize and prevent misbehavior. According to Rudolf Dreikurs (Crandall, 2012), there are four goals of misbehavior. These are; attention, power, revenge and assumed disability. To prevent this from occurring the teacher must create a classroom with a sense of belonging, cohesive bonding and appropriate instructional skills. However, doing this does not ensure that they will behave, it is better to assume that all students will misbehave at some point if given the chance. When students do misbehave, teachers can employ the Bumps Model to react appropriately to the level of misbehavior. The Bumps Model is comprised of 10 levels. The bump is the student s escalation. It is important that the teacher can distinguish between what is effective and ineffective to select the best method (Bennett, 1994). At Bump level one the teacher is responding to students when they first cause a disruption, the teacher s response will be low key, e.g.; proximity, the look, and saying the student s name. This follows Kounin (1970) slowdowns, in which the teacher keeps flowing through the material and not letting a small misbehavior get in the way of the teaching. The teacher s response ... With this, Stanislavsky created an ideal system where actors practiced techniques that would later be proven to be effective on stage and screen. Stanislavski s based his entire system heavily on Anton Chekhov s work ( Constantin Stanislavsky 4). Stanislavsky realized he was in love with acting that had no laws, which caused him to create what was first known as the Stanislavsky system ; Now known as the Method. Stanislavsky focused on creating the character from the outer to the inner, meaning from the body to the soul of the character, in order to help him develop the character (Van Heerden ... • 38. Research Paper On Mary Pickford Daniel Guillory Angela Catalano FTA 4540/5540 History of Cinema 10/12/17 Mary Pickford Research Paper Mary Pitchford or America s sweetheart was an iconic silent film actress and overall great entertainer in just about all categories film related. Mary was born on April 8, 1892, in Toronto, Canada and after only five years on the planet she would begin performing for an audience. Ten years later she would already find herself performing on Broadway in New York along side some of the most talented actors in the world.Eventually, Mary would begin working outside the stage and take a risk in a more recently developed artform. Mary and her luxurious curls would begin working with D.W. Griffith s Biograph Studio starting in 1909 as a biographer starring in films, rather than her upbringing of theatre. This job, along with future breakout roles in movies like Tess of the Storm Country and many others would propel Mary into the limelight in the eyes of many. She would become known by the public as the biograph girl or the girl with the golden curls along with many other nicknames and soon would become the most popular and highest paid actress in America and possibly the world. She also went on to be apart of forming the United Artists studio. It is easy to see why Mary Pitchford is so important to film history as she shows the development of the first major star in cinema. Mary began starring in many biograph films in a time where film wasn t popular nor did it pay very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Positive Behavior Intervention Plan ( Pbip ) The objective of this Positive Behavior Intervention Plan (PBIP) is to provide John the tools and support necessary to replace the behavior in question and implement, the prevent, teach, and reinforce strategies and recommendations. The desired outcome of this PTR plan is for John to substitute the flicking behaviorwith the use of a squeezy ball and or personal schedule/chart. For the prevent component of the behavioral intervention Environmental Supports and Increased Non contingent Reinforcement techniques were selected. These techniques were chosen in order to help support John refrain from engaging in the socially unacceptable flicking behavior. In order to prevent John from engaging in the flicking behavior, the teacher should equip John with a squeezy ball. The teacher should chat with John upon his arrival and encourage him to utilize his squeezy ball. According to research, To replace maladaptive behaviors, are sound educational choices grounded in learning theory and supported by empirical evidence (Dooley, Wilczenski, Torem, 2001, p. 58). Providing the optimal antecedent conditions will help support John as he acclimates himself to the replacement behavior. • 43. Analysis Of Bio-Hydrogen Production And Phosphorus... Bio hydrogen production and phosphorus recovery in microbial electrolysis cell with statistical optimization by response surface methodology Abstract Concurrent hydrogen (H2) production and phosphorus (P) recovery were investigated in dual chamber microbial electrolysis cells (MECs). The aim of the study was to explore and understand the influence of applied voltage and influent COD concentration on concurrent H2 production and P recovery in MEC. P was efficiently precipitated at the cathode chamber and the precipitated crystals were verified as struvite, using X ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy analysis. The maximum P precipitation efficiency achieved by the MEC was 94%, and the maximum H2 production rate was 0.31m3/m3/d. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The precipitation of these components is also highly dependent on pH, where struvite starts to precipitate at pH 8 (Doyle and Parsons, 2002). The most common methods for P recovery as struvite are chemical addition and carbon dioxide stripping through aeration. These processes are effective for struvite precipitation; however, the operation cost is too high. Using chemical addition to raise the solution s pH can account for up to 97% of struvite cost (Jaffer et al., 2002; Morales et al., 2013). Hydrogen as one promising alternative clean energy source has attracted international attention in recent years (Datar et al., 2007; Guo et al., 2010; Kumar et al., 2016). Microbial electrolysis cells (MECs) are a new and promising approach for hydrogen (H2) production from organic matter, including wastewater and other renewable resources. In MECs, electrochemically active bacteria oxidize organic matter and generate CO2, electrons and protons. The bacteria transfer the electrons to the anode and the protons are released into the solution. The electrons then travel through a wire to a cathode and combine with the free protons in the solution to produce hydrogen gas (Logan et al., 2008). The consumption of protons at the cathode chamber increases solution pH (Moussa et al., 2006). Based on this hypothesis, the cathode chamber in the MEC can be used to ... • 45. Faustian Bargain Analysis A Faustian Bargain is a complicated idea which translates in popular terms to selling one s soul to the devil. This definition consists of four layers. The first layer consists of two different aspects. The first aspect is doing something evil such as making a deal with the devil in order for personal gain. The second aspect is in pursuit of a lofty ideal. In pursuing the lofty ideal; the ideal is corrupted because of the methods to achieve it. The second layer is an unwillingness or inability to see things as they really are, to see evil as evil. The third layer is the felling of guilt after making a deal with the devil. The final layer is a third party attempting to convince the person from completing a Faustian Bargain. Within this layer one must seek whether they are a victim of external or internal influence. Several common elements of a Faustian Bargain emerge when we compare Button Button and Dr. Faustus. Those components include motivations of lofty ideals or self interest, the inability to see things as they really are, remorse, and the persuasion of an external or internal influence. Though Norma and Faustus both make a bargain with the devil, their motivations differ. Norma s motivations are based on self interest. Barnet states that the common definition of a Faustian Bargain is that some people are so eager to gain immediate power that they engage in actions that they know are evil (Barnet, vii). • 46. Essay To Hit Or Not To Hit Nic Wilson Dr. Hancock ENGWR 300 10:30 8 October 2017 Argument Essay Draft 2 To Hit or Not to Hit In 1973, Major League Baseball accepted Rule 5.11, also known as the Designated Hitter (DH) rule. This rule allows a player, who does not play a defensive position, to hit in place of the pitcher. The rule was created because pitchers, most of whom are notoriously bad hitters, were basically a free out for the opposing team. However, for some ungodly reason, the new DH rule was only established in one of the two leagues in the MLB. As a result, the American League, the league using the DH rule, has consistently produced higher batting averages since 1973 than the National League. When two teams from different leagues play each other, they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By expanding the DH rule to the National League, the MLB could create and extend more careers for players just like Martinez. Many people against the designated hitter believe having a DH ruins the integrity of the game. They think that teams should need to strategize by having pitchers bunt runners to the next base or force managers to make the tough decision of when to substitute a hitter for the pitcher. People opposed to the DH rule believe it is wrong to change the rules because this game has been played the same way for more than 100 years. This is both a closed minded and ancient way of thinking. Rules are meant to evolve and change over time to adjust to the times. The days of sacrificing at bats to bunt runners over are over. The sacrifice bunt has been virtually destroyed by new statistics and metrics that show how inefficient it is. The game is in need of more offense and expanding the DH rule to both leagues solves that problem and is a necessary evolvement to the sport. Over the past few years, pitching has been dominant and the officials in the MLB offices have looked for new ways to increase offensive production. For the 2017 season, the MLB has attempted to fix this problem by implementing a new type of baseball with a harder exterior and smaller laces which increase the distance and reduce drag (also increasing distance) of batted balls. As a result, home run totals across the league have increased ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his short story A Clean, Well Lighted Place, Ernest Hemingway, uses his usual style of elegant, yet unembellished, prose to depict one late night interaction between an old man, a young waiter, and an older waiter. The story takes place at a cafГ© in Madrid, during the era following the Lost Generation and is apparent, given the contrasting perspectives of the characters. The part of the story where the young waiter refills the old man s brandy with an agitated demeanor and the old man desires nothing more than to drink continuously, as he does on a nightly basis, illuminates the broader concerns of the of the story. This passage, although centered around the story s supporting characters, unveils the idea of nothingness before the reader s introduction to the word nada. Hemingway s A Clean, Well Lighted Place, is a revelation to the elaborate complexity of emotional fulfillment versus the existential crisis of spiritual and emotional emptiness, between the young and the old, throughout this particular generational gap. Throughout the passage, we see the young waiter go through a wide range of emotions, beginning with him feeling irritated, which becomes perceivable after his initial statement: a terse What do you want? directed at the old man (153). He then becomes condescending, telling the old man that he will be drunk if he continues drinking, knowing that he cannot hear him and that getting drunk is, evidently, the old man s intentions (154).
