Sylvia Plath Metaphors
Metaphors by Sylvia Plath was written in 1959. It is a lyric poem that uses metaphors to create a
riddle, as she states in line one. Plath is using a narrator voice in her poetry to describe her
pregnancy with the use of metaphors and her ambivalence to her current state. The narrator is
mocking herself and I find her mocking tone to pregnancy as something I want to incorporate in my
writing when writing about my character s eating disorder.
The poem starts with the narrator announcing herself as a riddle in nine syllables. The nine
syllables is the first hint that the poem is going to be about pregnancy. Plath correlated the use
of the word nine to the length of a pregnancy, giving the reader an inkling of what is to be
expected of the poem. The narrator then goes on to describe herself as an elephant, then a house,
two very distinctively large objects. She is now mocking the weight gain caused by pregnancy
and she furthers this by comparing herself to a melon, strolling on two tendrils. These lines give
the reader a vivid imagery of someone that has become stout and is struggling to do normal tasks
such as walk. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the poem she uses vivid imagery to convey the feelings of emotional suicide. The poem begins
with an answer to the question why do you want to die? she answers this question by starting the
poem with since you ask and takes the reader through a journey where the final destination is
committing suicide. In her poetry, she does not use the voice of the narrator like the way Plath
does, instead it is more of a conversational piece. Her poetry is confessional and written in her
point of view, whereas with Plath s poems I ve mentioned before, there is a disconnect where the
reader reads it in the voice of the narrator, instead of Plath s voice. In the poem, she notes that her
body is a physical bad prison that should be emptied completely in order to finally be

Comparing and Contrasting Brecht and Stanislavski Essays
Bertolt Brecht and Constantin Stanislavski are regarded as two of the most influential practitioners
of the twentieth century, both with strong opinions and ideas about the function of the theatre and
the actors within it. Both theories are considered useful and are used throughout the world as a
means to achieve a good piece of theatre. The fact that both are so well respected is probably the
only obvious similarity as their work is almost of complete opposites.
Stanislavski was born in 1863 to a wealthy family who loved amateur theatricals. In 1898 he met
Vladimir Nemirovich Danchenko and they founded the Moscow Art Theatre. Stanislavski s work is
centred on the notion that acting should be a total lifelike expression of what is being ... Show more

Brechts work is based on the concept that theatre is a means of political persuasion for the masses.
He sees the theatre as a tool to manipulate the audience, and to influence their day to day living once
that have thought about issues raised during the performance.
Stanislavski was very sure of the role of his actors within the theatre. The actors are there to create
a real, emotional and truthful imitation of the character they are playing, and to be so life like that
they seem to become their character. He said that the
Purpose of our art is to create the life of a human soul and render it in an artistic form. (2)
Which is quite a clear illustration of the purpose or role of stanislavskian actors. Stanislavski set
out a way of preparing for a role so that the actor could fulfil his role of pure imitation. He started
off by asking the actor to explore the character. He wanted to know what their objective was in
each unit of action and what their super objective was. The super objective was the sum of all the
units and their objectives.
In a play the whole stream of individual minor objectives, all the imaginative thoughts, feelings and
actions of an actor, should converge to carry out the super objective of the plot
Once actors can find some direction or purpose (objective or super objective) then it is easier,
according to Stanislavski, to immerse themselves in the character. He noted

Psychopathy Research Paper
The jurisdiction of psychopathy is a terrifying disorder. Sufferers often develop antisocial behavior,
marked by maladaptive personality traits. For centuries, many causes behind this disorder have
been speculated, but the etiology remains inconclusive. There are three mainstream etiologies
presented today, however they consist of biological, environmental, and social factors which may
be equal in support. If the rise of psychopathydevelops from biosocial conditions, is there an
effective treatment and therefore cure for an adult psychopath? There is vast and varied literature
which attempts to explain every detail about this confounding disorder.
Today there are two concepts associated with psychopathy: sociopathy and antisocial personality

Jimmy Smith Rap
The facts of the case: Jimmy Smith, a jazz organist in the late 1900 s, released an album called
Off The Top on Elektra/Asylum in 1982. The last song on the album, titled Jimmy Smith Rap , or
JSR, was a spoken recording. Among the lyrics, it said, Jazz is the only real music that s gonna
last. All that other bullshit is here today and gone tomorrow. But jazzwas, is and always will be.
Prior to this song being released on the album, the label did not list a composer for JSR, nor was
the composition copyright registered with the U.S. Copyright Office or a performing rights
organization (Peppe, 2017).
In September of 2013, Drake released his third studio album called, Nothing Was the Same , wih
Cash Money Records and Universal Republic Records. One of the 16 tracks, called Pound Cake

Judge Pauley, after evaluating the use of JSR in Drake s song, came to the conclusion that
Because this purpose is sharply different from Jimmy Smith s purpose in creating the original
track, Defendants use is transformative and this factor weighs in favor of a finding of fair use
(Maddaus, 2017). Judge Pauley also explained that Smith s phrase is an unequivocal statement on
the primacy of jazz over all other forms of popular music, while Drake s edit turns it into a
statement that real music, with no qualifiers, is the only thing that s gonna last (Collins, 2017).
Based on this finding, the district court was able to grant the defendants summary judgement
motion. On May 30 of 2017, Judge Pauley dismissed the suit. This is precisely the type of use that

Civil Disobedience Necessary
Anyone in a free society where the laws are unjust has an obligation to break the law. Henry David
Thoreau
Thoreau wholeheartedly agreed with the idea of questioning a law that many find unjust, and many
agree with him. Citizens that engage in Civil Disobedience are not overextending any form of right,
but are in fact using the ones given to them by their constitution. Also, by engaging in civil
disobedience, citizens are criticizing their government, something that was encouraged in the Greek
and Roman republics which the United States bases the government upon.
Civil Disobedience is remarkably effective without the violence that many had thought necessary.
Several famous examples include the Salt March of Mahatma Gandhi, the Civil Rights movement
of Martin Luther King Jr., and even the sit ins of the factory workers during the industrial
revolution. Although, many still argue that civil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those politicians and inhabitants of the first thirteen colonies that had fought the war against
Britain, thought it important, based on their own experiences, that their citizens be able to
question their government. After the issues with the power of the British Monarchy, they sought
out to prevent another abuse of power and set their own government to reflect this necessary
freedom. Today, people migrate to America in droves to gain this freedom, for where they had
come from, they would have been killed. It is not a freedom to be taken for granted, seeing as it
had done so much for the minorities of the United States, and while it isn t perfect yet, with more
Civil Disobedience it could be.
Overall, Civil Disobedience is an important part of the United States and what it is. If America did
not have the laws protecting those who had protested against the crimes of the government, it
would not have made the progress that it has. Civil Disobedience is a part of the American Dream

The Salem With Trials
Salem Witch Trials The 17th century was filled with mystery because of the strong beliefs in the
supernatural powers and the presence of Satan on Earth in the colonial North America. Witchcraft,
the use of magical faculties, was mainly used by the peasants with a particular charm of being
associated with the evil spirits and demons to prosper in their agricultural activities. In fact, many
literatures were written on witchcraft during that period. For instance, Joseph Glanvill in 1668,
claimed to have proof of the existence of these powers in witches and ghosts in his thesis titled
Against Modern Sadducism . Along with this thesis, other works by Cotton Mather, a minister at
the Boston North Church, created the fear among the people about the wandering and meandering
of demons on Earth (Adams, 2009). As a result, there was caution and concern among people from
all quarters regarding the activity of witchcraft and black magic. This proves the common mindset
of the society and the religious views and beliefs were blindly followed during those days;
particularly when Christianity was almost occult. In the Salem Village (currently Denver,
Massachusetts), people believed that ills and misfortunes were a result of the Devil s tricky
activities. Hence, natural events such as infant deaths, failure of crops, conflicts and friction in the
society were attributed to the supernatural powers. There were numerous accusations on witchcraft
activities for all the unusual outbreak of

Toni Cade Bambara The Lesson Summary
Toni Cade Bambara is an African American Writer and activist. She is most known for sharing in
her writings the experiences and ways of life in African American communities. She devoted a lot
of her time to help improve social change for African Americans. She won The American Book
Award, recognizing the hard work she put in creating her stories.
In her short story, The Lesson, Bambara uses many building blocks of fiction. In this journal entry, I
am going to talk about a few symbols throughout the story. I will show how Bambara used this
building block to develop a powerful short story.
First, Bambara uses the title as a symbol. The title The Lesson to show what the short story was all
about. It was about an older woman named miss Moore, teaching a lesson about money and ... Show

In the beginning of the story before the kids leave with miss moore, they met her by the mailbox,
which means that miss moore had a message for them since a mailbox is where we send letters.
Throughout the story miss moore used money to teach the kids a valuable lesson. The mailbox is
also where we receive messages from others. In the end of the story they line up back in front of
the mailbox, where miss moore asked what they thought about the F.A.O Schwarz. The ending
shows that a message was received from miss moore to the kids because sugar started asking
questions about money and equalities.

activist, I also wrote about the one of the main building blocks of fiction, which is symbol, in the
short story The Lesson . This important building block of fiction is what makes this short story a
classic and unforgettable. This story teaches a valuable lesson about the way the world was and
still is today. It gives a sense that we could all be equal but some have to work harder than others.

Reflection About Service
During the summer and the first quarter of my freshman year, I performed several hours of
service because service, to me, is important and brings me closer to God. During the summer, I
volunteered at my church s sport summer camp. There I watched over the children who were
around the ages of five to ten. Other counselors and myself, watched over the children while their
parents were at work. I helped the children play sports such as basketball and volleyball as well as
even spent time with some of the children making friendship bracelets. I spent a week volunteering
at this camp because, for me, doing service brings me closerto the life Jesus said we should live; it
helps me to not think about myself for once and to think about other people. Additionally, over the
summer I also volunteered at Sportime summer camp. There I did similar things which included
playing sports and rely games with the children as well as helping them with arts and crafts. I
volunteered there because it was seven hours a day when I would focus on the children and help
them with whatever they needed. At both Sportime and my church, the heads of the camps were
grateful for my help because they were low on volunteers and staff members. I agreed to help
because I did not see a better way to spend my time. It meant a lot for me to be able to be such a
help to those people. In my second quarter, I volunteered at OLMA s annual Christmas Tea Party.
There, I helped set up the tables with hot water and sugar as well as helped serve food and
dessert. I made sure everyone s kettles were always filled with hot water and that there was
enough tea for everyone. Additionally, I helped clear the tables and throw away people s garage
during the event. After the event, I cleared all the tables from the dross and tablecloths, along
with the other volunteers. In addition, I helped to bring the cups and kettles that needed to be
washed back to the kitchen. The week before I knew that the people running the event were in
need of some student volunteers because they did not have many, so I was glad to volunteer.
The people there were happy to have my help and I was more than glad to offer it. I felt closer to
God as I gave up my time to help others in

Modern Society In The Time Machine By H. G. Wells
Usually, literature reflects the features of contemporary society. One of the reasons is that the
writers of the literature necessarily are influenced by the society they live in. In The Time
Machine, the writer H. G. Wells showed his own view on late Victorain societey. In that era, speed
of changes in society was fast and many modern society problems strated to arise according to
development of technologies. H. G. Wellswere also aware of these problems. He especially focused
on the class division problems in The Time Machineand proposed future dystopia, rather than
utopia. Wells showed how the problem of class division would be worse than people imagine in the

In the early 19th century, the prospect of the future was usually related to utopia. Expectation of
human reason and confidence in science, which were influenced by civil revolution and
industrial revolution, made many people look forward to more advanced societies. However, as
modern problems including the gulf between rich and poor became serious, criticism against
harmful effects of industrialization started to arise. The emergence of literature about dystopia
showed this criticism. Similarly, time traveller in the book looked the future society as utopia. He
said that the whole earth had become a garden. (30). He also believed in a perfect conquest of
Nature (32). However, as he discovered the real aspect of future society, he admitted that his first
theory that the future is utopia was totally wrong. It is actually dystopia which is far different from
what he expected. The time traveller suggested that because of too perfect and secure environment,
the human in upperworld had dwindled in size, strength and intelligence (49). Elois are small and
not strong as average adult. Moreover, the language that Eloi use is simpler and often does not
include abstract ideas. The human race in Underworld, even worse, feed on the other human race.

All organizations, by their very nature, have built in conflicts Conflict is seen as an inherent feature
of organisations and induced, in part, by the very structure of the organisation. The causes might
stem from individual characteristics, interpersonal factors, communications, behavior, structure and

Ambiguity the ambiguous purposes and objectives, the imprecision in establishing tasks, authority
and responsibility of some jobs and compartments, lack of clarity in transmitting decisions or the
deformed presentation of reality are causes of conflict at TRB. Management sets unclear policies.
These can cause much argument, confusion and wasted resources. When rules and standards are
also inequitably applied e.g. one set for management and another for the workers, the credibility of
management regarding its value system can be significantly undermined. At TRB, the policy states
that work starts at 0700hrs. Some managers adhere to this policy together with the bulk of the
employees, but others do not. The earliest that they are seen at work is at 0745hrs. No action is
taken against them, but if lower level would dare to do the same, they will suffer the consequences.
Interdependent work activities: Wherever the input to one process is dependent on the output from
another before the finished product is complete, the potential for conflict is high. The Accounts
Department at TRB depends on the stock take figures that the Business Development Department
among other departments submit at the end of each month. How, BD personnel have their own
priorities that occupy them. The BD team may not particularly be aware of Accounts deadlines and
as such the moment Accounts tries to hasten their stock take process, and a conflict arises.

The Marketing Plan Of San Juan Islands
2.INTRODUCTION
San Juan Islands, an archipelago part of the US state of Washington, have been well known since
the early 20th century for its scenic nature and abundant wild life. Their landscapes have
transformed a rural county into a popular tourist destination and have continuously been invented
and commodified for tourism. In 2014, tourist expenditure reached almost US$200mn, generating
jobs and services in the whole county. Previously to the establishment of the current DMO in
1999, San Juan Islands Visitor Bureau (SJIVB), there were a scarcity of resources devoted to
tourism and a passive approach in promoting the Islands. Under the management of the DMO, the
county has risen to become America s favourite place for retirement. The purpose of this report is to
evaluate the 2016 destination marketing and budget plan of San Juan Islands, drawing on Middleton
et al. (2009) s marketing planning process. This report will also give recommendations regarding
the marketing research and sustainable tourism management.
3.2016 DESTINATION MARKETING AND BUDGET PLAN OF SAN JUAN ISLANDS
This section will be dedicated to the evaluation of the 2016 s destination marketing plan of San Juan
Islands that sets out goals and concrete strategies at operational level for a short term period. The
evaluation will draw on Middleton et al. s (2009, p.207) eight logical steps of the marketing
planning process and other relevant literature.

Everyone who commits to playing for an organized team knows that there is a large risk
involved with the time you are stepping onto the field. The most common sport that athletes are
being injured is in the sport of football. The reason is because it is so widely played by all ages,
from Pop Warner all the way to the NFL. The NFL is doing everything they can to prevent head
injuries in the sport of football. Every time an athlete strap on his helmet and walks onto a football
field, he is putting his body at risk of serious injury, but there are steps that have been taken to
minimize the seriousness of those injuries. Factors that have played big roles in keeping athletes

jumping into full contact order to lower the risk of re injury. After being cleared by trainers, the
high school players are allowed to go right back into practice with no limitations. Colleges are
slightly more cautious than high school, but still do little more than high schools. The NFL, on
the other hand, takes concussions much more seriously. NFL players with concussions undergo

brains is functioning properly. The NFL also has many more doctors than college teams which
make sure that the NFL athletes are being treated correctly and insure that they will be healthy

reefs, they are providers of food source and living as well as the fact that they are among the
most biologically diverse regions on Earth. The actual coral itself is known to be extremely
ancient that evolved into reef building forms over the last 25 years (Donner). There are two
types of coral, one is hard coral, which is the major reef building species and then there is soft

Timothy Mcveigh s Bombing Of The Oklahoma City Murrah
On April 19, 1995 the world was thrown into shock. Terrorism was not a thing in the United

Not only did this tragedy effect the hundreds of people inside the Oklahoma City Murrah
building, it also affected billions of rescue workers, families, and loved ones. All the different
groups of people affected by this bomb copped in very different ways.
Mcveigh used a lot of smart thinking to carry out his bombing plan. On April 17, 1995 Timothy

German Left Wing Terrorists
Prior to Germany s Autumn of Terror in 1977, concrete events lead the country down a path where
a necessary political student movement transpired and very quickly turned the student group into a
terrorist organization. Specifically, the attacks in May of 1972 launched the Red Army Factions
crusade against the government and the public. Just like the assassination of Archduke Franz
Ferdinand, heir to the Austrian throne, by Bosnian Serb nationalists sparked World War I, the
killing of a teenager, Benno Ohnesorg, by German police sparked a radical student movement that
would change Germanyonce again. The death of Benno Ohnesorg was also a reminder of
government sanctioned murders during World War II under Hitler, which was once again present
in post war Germany. Moreover, individualism from youths inspired the idea of needing an
opposition party so Germany does not keep bonds with old practices. The youths felt that
conservatives needed to be pushed a side in order for the country to move forward. Deriving from
the student protest movement in West Germany, the Red Army Faction
s attacks and juvenile
reactions, during their first and second generational existence, ultimately led Germany to a third
reign of terror giving even less credibility to the left wing radical group and their political ideology;
further leading to the leaders suicidal, arguably homicidal, deaths.

youths, hundreds

Toto, Were Not in Kansas Anymore
I was not surprised when I was told we were moving again. Moving from place to place was
something I accepted into my life. My mom always had a good reason to leave and start a new
adventure somewhere else. The whole move happened fairly quickly. Mom made the
announcement while we were riding in the car. My sister and I mourned over our lives we were
leaving behind for the remainder of that ride. Our brains were programmed to adapt to new things
rapidly, so the mourning stage did not last very long. I guess you could call it a survival instinct.
Anyway, just after two days of the decision, our house immediately began to be packed up.
Everything we owned had to be stuffed into the smallest amount of boxes possible. When you start
to pack up your room, let alone your whole house, you start to realize how much stuff you really
have. As a nine year old sitting on my bedroom floor, this task seemed impossible to accomplish. ...

We have seen, though, that some tend to have a grasp of what true liberty is. One of these scholars
was the English philosopher and economist J.S. Mill. Mill s On Liberty provided a great example of
what, in his opinion, liberty is and how it is to be protected. In this essay we will examine Mill s
ideals concerning liberty and point out a few things he may not have been realistic about.

Not to silence them in favor of having no opposition. All that is accomplished by this is the
handicapping of society, for it is true in every aspect of life that the only way to improve is to go
against opposition and to learn from it. Along these lines it would make sense that the most
important ideas out there are the unpopular ones because these are the issues that are being
neglected.
The protection of this quot;individuality quot; poses a problem. What causes harm and what
ultimately leads to good? When should government step in and when should it let things be?
Knowing where that line is tough. Mill s answer to this is that society has jurisdiction over every
aspect of behavior that, quot;affects prejudicially the interests of others. quot; More specifically
society has no interest in the aspects of one s life that affect only the individual acting, or others,
for that matter, that are affect at their own consent. Society has no right to keep a person from
doing with his life what they wish, and it is stupid to do so their own good for nobody will every
truly know what someone else aspires to do. Though Mill rejects the concept of the social contract
he does believe that people do have obligations to the society in exchange for the protection of their
freedom. And if one acts in a manner that harms the society as a whole then they are subject to
punishment. Not

Cultural Competence And Health Care Workers Get The Same...
Article Review Brittany Loy Nebraska Methodist College Miscommunication, medication errors,
and lack of compliance commonly occur in the healthcare field. These are just a few of the errors
that occur due to the patient being from a different culture than the physician or healthcare worker.
Those three errors alone have a huge impact on our healthcare today. If we could have a better
understanding of other cultures that are different from our own we could have a dramatic decrease
in errors and a great increase in healthcare participation. Training must be completed and must be
done in more than one way. The first step is to make sure that all physicians and health care
workers get the same nationwide training that focuses on improving cultural competence. How this
is completed must be done in more than one way (Horwitz, 2001). The goal in fixing/decreasing
this issue is to make sure the team has cultural competence. Cultural competence in healthcare has
been operationalized as the ability to provide high quality care for patients with diverse values,
beliefs, and behaviors, including the customization of service delivery and administration to meet
the patients social and cultural needs (Anderson, 2003). Up until recently, medical schools did not
fit this concept into its teaching, which is an issue for doctors who are older, as they were not
taught the importance of this. It s very important to fix this situation, errors, and assumptions about

Why Is The Alchemist Important
An excerpt from the bible; For where your treasure is, there will be your heart also (Luke 12:34)
shows that your heart is there for you to make choices in order of finding what you value most.
Not everyone is able to find the significance in searching for treasure in life, however. Whether it
may be striving to find your true values, or having to chose between two of your favorite things
in order to move forward in life, not everything comes easy. Obstacles are placed in front of
everyone s path until they re able to find their treasure. Finding your treasure isn t possible if you
don t follow your heart. This was true, of course for the main character, Santiago, from The
Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. With the enlightenment and strength perceived from other figures in
the book, Santiago learns that with a heart full and determination, he could also find the treasure of
a Personal Legend. Through Santiago s decisions, The Alchemist examines the significance of
following your heart. The importance included within following your heart is found in the story
when Santiago follows his Personal Legend that he was bound to achieve after awakening from a
dream that convinced him to journey through the desert. An example of great remedy given by the
king has him explain that A mysterious force will begin to convince them that it will be
impossible for them to realize their Personal Legend (Coelho 21). When the words were first
spoken to Santiago, he had but no clue of what

The Morning after Pills: Benefits and Side Effects
A prolonged night of uninhibited pleasure often leaves scopes for certain mistakes, which turn out
to be rather troublesome in the long run. The morning after pill is one of the most trusted ways of
emergency contraception that prevents women from getting pregnant in case they had unprotected
sex by accident. While the morning after pill is not the ideal contraception solution for women
who regularly have unprotected sex, it is good for restricted usage. Also, the morning after pill is
strictly a mode of contraception and not one of those abortion pills that are way more harmful for
the overall health and well being of a woman.

Well, as the very name suggests, the morning after pill should be taken preferably within 12 hours
after a contraceptive accident. However, you can also take it within 72 hours of having an
unprotected sex. It works towards preventing pregnancy in the following three ways:
The pill temporarily stops the release of an egg from the ovary
It prevents fertilization
It prevents a fertilized egg from attaching to the uterus
Having said that, the morning after pill is in, no way, an abortion pill and therefore it will never
terminate pregnancy should you have already conceived.
Benefits and Side Effects
The best part of using the morning after pill is that it is quite reliable as compared to the other
methods of contraception after unprotected sex. All you need to do is just take one pill and that too
within a given span of time. For most women, taking the morning after pill once in a while causes
no harm.
With that being said, for women who have a medical history of being allergic to the active
ingredients contained in the pill, intake of the pill should be avoided. Some of the other side effects
may include the following:
Nausea
Fatigue or dizziness
Change in menstrual cycle
Breast tenderness

Senior Living Budgeting
Senior Living Budgeting Budgeting is important for everybody, but it can be even more critical
for seniors. A bad financial decision may be painful in your younger years, but it can be
overcome. During retirement, a bad financial decision can be devastating since there is no longer
an income stream to replenish the lost money. The primary error made by seniors when it comes
to budgeting is not knowing where their money is going. It could be because there is not a budget
in place at all, or it could be due to changes in expenses that have not been updated. A senior living
counselor can help your loved one monitor their spending and create a weekly, monthly, and annual

War Without Mercy by Dower Essay
War Without Mercy by Dower In War Without Mercy , Dower s principle is a surprising one:
Though Western allies were clearly headed for victory, pure racism fueled the persistence and
increase of hostilities in the Pacific setting during the final year of World War II, a period that saw
as many casualties as in the first five years of the conflict combined. Dower does not reach this
disturbing conclusion lightly. He combed through loads of propaganda films, news articles, military
documents, and cartoons. Though his case is strong, Dower reduces other factors, such as the
prolonged negotiations between the West and the Japanese. During World War II, with the alliance

Overall, the Why We Fight films reflect the strategic priorities of the U.S. government and
focused primarily on the struggle in the West. A Japanese equivalent to this series is titled The
Battle of China. This was an epic paean to the resistance of the Chinese people against Japan s
aggression. Through all of the destruction and devastation of the Japanese, they come with this
counterpoint that was heightened by a commentary in which Japan s rhetoric of co existence
and co prosperity was recited while the screen showed the devastation of China s cities and the
mutilated corpses of its men, women, and children. In the United States and Britain, Dower
reminds us, the Japanese were more hated than the Germans before as well as after Pearl
Harbor. On this, there was no dispute among contemporary observers. They were perceived as a
race apart, even a species apart and an overpoweringly monolithic one at that. There was no
Japanese counterpart to the good German in the popular consciousness of the Western Allies. (8)
But there are two answers in the book that gives us a reason on why there was more hatred
towards the Japanese than the Germans. These are the same Germans that engaged in a systematic
genocide against millions of Jews. But why the Japanese were more hated than the Germans
despite the latter s orgy of violence, is surely in large part racial. It s not a

Due to the rising popularity of Electronic Records Management systems, the goal of a paperless
office continues to get closer. ERM has the ability to utilize scanners to make digital copies of
every document. These documents are then coded and attached to specific files or accounts and
optical character reading (OCR), systems are used to provide insight into the contents of each page.
From the time it enters the organization; the digital version of the document is stored and filed for
future use.
ERM allows a document to become accessible from any computer by an authorized employee from
the moment the document is scanned. This is much easier than having an employee access a
traditional paper file, which has to be kept in a filing cabinet or area and then will have to be
requested, retrieved and delivered before the employee can view it. ERM also allows multiple
people to look at a file at the same time, as opposed to having to wait your turn because your
coworker is already using the file that you need.
Not only does ERM allow for the replication of digital versions of documents, a database is
created which allows employees to search for a document at the click of a button. So, if a
company needs to find all records that reference a particular customer, they could simply search the
database for the client s name, and all files will pop up almost instantly.

Isis of Egypt The Egyptian Goddess Isis, whom is the Goddess of Health, Marriage, and Wisdom,
has been widely worshipped amongst many religions throughout history seeing as her influence
was able to spread outside Egypt as Isis s influence spread also to the Greco Roman world as
well. The contrast of her worship in the Egyptian world and the Greco Roman world is
particularly fascinating as her worship had evolved over the course of time. In each of these
time periods, as her worship continued temples were built in her name in Egypt and in Greece.
The origins of Isis aren t entirely known, however the first evidence of Isis was found in the fifth
dynasty in the sun temple of Niuserre. Even though this is the first evidence of Isis, some like
Maria Muenster makes the case that Isis was the oldest of the gods, and that she came before the
Old Kingdom of Egypt, There, in the beginning was Isis. Oldest of the old, she was the goddess
from whom all Becoming arose. And later continues to say, In all her great and wonderful works
she was a wiser magician and more excellent than any other god. This all remains to be
speculation however, since her claims are based on a lack of archaeological evidence. Isis s elusive
origins remains a common topic in Ancient Egypt history. Isis s name means throne, and as she is
depicted in the Ancient Egyptian culture, her headdress is a throne. Isis was a representation of

Technology And Evolution Of Cell Phones
When cell phones were first introduced, they were large and expensive. In 1983 the first truly
mobile phone was released by Motorola. It was the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x. To some people
it is known as the Zack Morris phone. He used this phone on a regular basis in a popular
television show called Saved by the bell which took place in the late 80 s to early 90 s. It was an
extremely large device compared to the ones we are used to now and it was only designed to
make phone calls. It was not often used for personal use like today. They were primarily used in
the sales and business world, but not for personal use like you see today said Kreg Jones, an
industrial designer and industrial design instructor at the Art institute of Philadelphia ( The
History and Evolution of Cell Phones ). Initially cell phones could only make phone calls. In
later cell phones eventually voicemail was added, but the main feature was still talking.
Eventually companies realized the potential to integrate other technologies into the phones. The
earliest smart phones integrated email access and allowed the phone to be used as an address
book, pager, and fax machine. Cell phones more recently picked up the name mobile device as the
purpose has shifted to more of a multimedia device rather than just a phone used for only direct
communication. Cell phones have come a long way since then. They have continued to evolve and
have become a huge part of our life today. It s not just adults who have

Patriot Act
Often our nation sees as a symbol of freedom to the world; however, since the events of 9/11 the
U.S congress signed into law the U.S Patriot Act. This legislation extends the power of the
government by strengthening its oversight authority over the nation, claiming war on terrorism and
protection of national security against any potential threats. As an American citizen, I agree with

Undoubtedly and clearly the Patriot Act reaches the First Amendment, which is a constitutionally

The Role Of Traditional Household Gender Roles
Gender relations are not confined to the domestic arena although households constitute an important
institutional site on which gender relations are played out but are made, remade and contested in a
range of institutional arenas (Changing Gender Relations In The Household). In parallel to this
statement, women and men have always had their own perceive norm within the household. Women
are traditionally homemakers and men assume the sole status of breadwinner. However, in modern
day society men are becoming more open to the idea of genderequality in regards to familyroles.
Mothers and society are socializing individuals with this norm. Currently, there is a gradual
transition from a male dominant society to gender equality. This paper will look at the impact of
traditional household gender roles by analyzing the following questions:
1.Why is there a gender shift in household gender roles?
2.What is the impact of balancing work and a family?
3.What are the benefits for the family?
4.Is gender equality within a family positively affecting society?
By understanding how this change has come about, predictions can be made to determine how this
will impact the future, to see if this will change situations outside of the home that are gender
sensitive, and to see if this will give a people a broader perspective to work with.
Why is there a gender shift in household gender roles?
Influenced by the ever changing society, the household gender roles are transforming. Due an

Lessons from Lehman Brothers: Will We Ever Learn? MGT 521 September 9, 2013
Introduction
Lehman Brothers financial services filed bankruptcy on September 15, 2008, in the New York
Southern District U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Resulting in an immediate 500 point drop in the Dow
Jones (Did Ernst amp; Young Really Assist Financial Fraud? 2011). This day became known as
Dark Monday (Donaldson, 2012). This was to date, the largest bankruptcy filing in history
unleashing a crisis of confidence that threw financial markets worldwide into turmoil, sparking the
worst crisis since the Great Depression. However this financial icon s fall is no surprise. The

There are executives and top managers who seek the easy way to make the most money for them,
without consideration for their shareholders who should be the priority. There will be no end to
people with varying motivations trying to gain an unfair or even illegal advantage to get more of
it. It s not unreasonable to expect companies to act ethically: this is one reason so many laws and
regulations are implemented. However, it is just difficult to find a company with a large number of
personnel to conduct themselves ethically.
Conclusion
The Lehman Brothers case is another unfortunate financial crisis. Their company affected many
shareholders and financial institutions around the world. The leadership of Lehman Brothers failed
to uphold their mission statement and the financial rewards for themselves undermine their
decision making processes. Self interest led them to make decisions that were extremely risky than
their own internal controls were designed to control, and top executives received high
compensations for taking such risks. It appeared that other personnel with various intentions also
made irresponsible decisions without regard to those who would be adversely affected. Their
company culture turned into getting the biggest bang for your buck, no matter what the potential
cost of failure may be. Ethics were

The Legalization Of The Penny In Today s Society
The penny was first legalised by the Coinage Act of 1864. But was not printed until 1906 when
Abraham Lincoln was the first historical figures portrayed on a United States coin. Back when
pennies were first made, the value of the penny was extremely high. But since the time that the
penny was first introduced to now, prices have risen by the extreme. With other coinsand even
dollar bills now, the penny is less likely to be used, except for change. The production of the
penny needs to be ended because it costs more to make than it is worth, it is a hassle to use and it
useless in today s society. The product of the penny cost more to produce than its own worth. The
cost of making the pennies (1.26 cents each) is higher than face value... (about.com). The United
States Mint company is actually losing moneywhen sending pennies out to different companies
and places. The government is losing around 53 million dollars every year by producing the penny,
and that price is only raising. Since many people don t use the pennies they have and they either
keep them or throw they away, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A penny has little value and little buying power, especially compared to what it had a century
ago (savingadvice.com). There is no where you can go and buy something for one single penny.
In the past, stores would have little candies for one penny. Nowadays since prices have raised so
high over the years, vending machines and most parking meters do not even accept pennies.
Most people throw away 4 cents worth of pennies into the jar (or trash) each day (about.com).
Pennies are so worthless to us that people throw them away! People are throwing away money. If
a person threw away 4 pennies a day and lived for an average of 80 year, that person would be
throwing away 1,168 dollars in their lifetime. Pennies add up after a long time, but no one keeps

Electric Cars Essay
You shower, brush your teeth, turn off the lights and plug in your...car. This seems like an
estranged concept but will be or at least should be a reality for most motorists. Electric cars are a
better means of transportation than gasoline powered cars, due to the fact that they save you money
in multiple ways, help combat global warming and boost a country s economy.
To begin with, electric cars are better for the planet. They decrease the emission of greenhouse
gases and increase air quality. Initially, the emissions free quality of EVs also stems from the
design of the motor. It is powered by a process called induction which uses electric and magnetic
forces to make the motor spin. This way there is no combustion reaction that would

Also, the state of Colorado offers $6,000 worth of tax credit for the owner of a new EV
(Gorzelany). It is said that EVs are often more expensive but considering savings made from
maintenance, energy and compensation expenses; an EV is a good investment. The two main
points discussed will create an interest and incentive to allow the following point to become reality.
At last, the point that will most likely spur people to change their mode of transportation is that
EVs help countries economies. The need for the manufacture of electric cars and the installment
of a charging infrastructure will create jobs. In response to critics who say that petrol factory will
be left jobless, that is not the case because these workers will often be the same ones who will
work on EVs; these automotive industry workers have the necessary skills to build all kinds of
vehicles regardless of a change in the drivetrain. Not only will the manufacturing require a large
workforce but also the construction, maintenance, and operation of charging stations: Recent
electric vehicle penetration brings the necessity of a high number of charging stations
(YAGCITEKIN, UZUNOGLU, and KARAKAS).
All in all, there is insurmountable evidence pointing to the idea that electric vehicles are the
superior alternative to petrol vehicles and that they should be peoples new form of transport. Car

Louis Gates Black America And The Class Divide
Understanding that the poverty of black Americans did not just stay within the home is a big step
in understanding urban poverty. Urban poverty reached outside the home, into the parks, schools
and playgrounds. With poverties reach being that extensive, there was something other than
adversity causing this. Louis Gates wrote an article about this called Black America and The
Class Divide. (Jr.) The main argument that Louis Gates was making in his article was the divide
within the social and economic classes here in America. He was explaining the gap between the
classes. He is using examples from both the past and the present to validate his argument. He was
putting most of the blame on blacks themselves. One example of how he validated this

Going to Canada by Warren Cariou
Through his creative non fiction piece Going to Canada , Warren Cariou proposes that our
traditional view of Canada is superficial and fabricated from cover up stories; we need to look
beneath the surface of central issues to construct a well rounded understanding. Cariou travels to
Auschwitz and is quite intrigued by the warehouse called Canada, which is used to store stolen
goods from prisoners. He questions how the Canada located in the internment camp got its name
and what significance the name plays. Initial reflection upon the meaning of Canada suggests the
prisoners named it as a place for freedom and solace. However, later evidence suggested that it was
actually named by Nazi Commanders. There seemed to be no direct connection between the
warehouse and the country until Cariou returned to Canada and visited several northern Aboriginal
communities. Cariou emphasizes the significance of stories of First Nations as agents of
remembering and forgetting; they show the theft and dehumanization that Aboriginals are subjected
to. Through the numerous parallels, it became evident that there is a clear connection between the
warehouse and the country. Cariou claims that as Canadians, our perspective is shaped from cover
up stories and prevents us from seeing the connection that exists between the two. The corporate
exploitation of Aboriginal communities and natural resources is analogous to the behavior of the
Nazis during the holocaust. Through this piece, Cariou wishes to

For example, there are different communities on a designated piece of land. This piece of land is
considered the Commons, in this case, as all of the different communities use the land for a
specific use. Since the Commons is the land, it is free to all of the communities. As the different
communities are constantly in competition with one another to get more of their specific use out
of the land, they overuse it. This overuse eventually ruins the land. The communities are no
longer able to support themselves without being able to carry out their specific use of the land,
because the land is ruined. This causes each of the communities to falter. The designated land s
society is destroyed, becoming the Tragedy referred to in the Tragedy of the Commons. The
Tragedy of the Commons is an example of how a society can destroy themselves, such as the
inhabitants of Earth destroying themselves by overusing our non renewable and renewable
resources, to the point where we will no longer have those resources to support ourselves. This, in
turn, will destroy the planet and life as we know it.

Why The Book Should Be Banned
Banned books are books to which free access is not allowed. The practice of banning books is a
method of book censorship, and often has political, religious or moral motivations. Catching fire
the second book in the hunger games trilogy. The book is banned and I believe that is shouldn t
be banned. The reasons are it has excessive violence, causes nightmares in children, and some
believe is anti ethnic. I think Catching fire shouldn t be banned because the book teaches a lesson
to never give up. But high school students should be able to read the book because it s very
influential on young readers and gives readers that feeling that giving up is not an option and to
keep pushing on.

A parent my not like the book and go to the school board and say my child had a nightmare and get
the book banned. I would understand if there were other children in local schools or in the school
have complaints but this is one parent and one student that have no evidence of a nightmare that
was experienced because of the book. The book yes may cause nightmares but you can t complain
to a school about your child having nightmares without having any evidence that the book caused it.
Some parent s argue that the book should be banned but their argument can be overturned.
Parents continue to argue about the violence that the book has, but they soon are going to have
to notice that the world is filled with violence and if you re going to ban a book because of the
PG 13 violence in the book you should think about what revolves around you every day. The
opposition also argues that the book causes nightmares but without evidence that the book was the
thing that cause the child to have the nightmare or was it something that your child seen on TV
before bed or thought about we will never no because there s no evidence the book caused the
nightmare. Parents in the situation seem as if they want the best for child and try to avoid and
hide their child from the violence but as they grow older there are going to be more harsh violence
around them in the real world and the book I think is preparing and maturing them for the

The Sherwood community runs pretty smoothly for academics right now. Their school system

Many Sherwood families don t like the idea of this but can t stop their plans. Many Sherwood
citizens are wondering how the school systems are going to be working now. The new high

  • 2. Sylvia Plath Metaphors Metaphors by Sylvia Plath was written in 1959. It is a lyric poem that uses metaphors to create a riddle, as she states in line one. Plath is using a narrator voice in her poetry to describe her pregnancy with the use of metaphors and her ambivalence to her current state. The narrator is mocking herself and I find her mocking tone to pregnancy as something I want to incorporate in my writing when writing about my character s eating disorder. The poem starts with the narrator announcing herself as a riddle in nine syllables. The nine syllables is the first hint that the poem is going to be about pregnancy. Plath correlated the use of the word nine to the length of a pregnancy, giving the reader an inkling of what is to be expected of the poem. The narrator then goes on to describe herself as an elephant, then a house, two very distinctively large objects. She is now mocking the weight gain caused by pregnancy and she furthers this by comparing herself to a melon, strolling on two tendrils. These lines give the reader a vivid imagery of someone that has become stout and is struggling to do normal tasks such as walk. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the poem she uses vivid imagery to convey the feelings of emotional suicide. The poem begins with an answer to the question why do you want to die? she answers this question by starting the poem with since you ask and takes the reader through a journey where the final destination is committing suicide. In her poetry, she does not use the voice of the narrator like the way Plath does, instead it is more of a conversational piece. Her poetry is confessional and written in her point of view, whereas with Plath s poems I ve mentioned before, there is a disconnect where the reader reads it in the voice of the narrator, instead of Plath s voice. In the poem, she notes that her body is a physical bad prison that should be emptied completely in order to finally be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing and Contrasting Brecht and Stanislavski Essays Bertolt Brecht and Constantin Stanislavski are regarded as two of the most influential practitioners of the twentieth century, both with strong opinions and ideas about the function of the theatre and the actors within it. Both theories are considered useful and are used throughout the world as a means to achieve a good piece of theatre. The fact that both are so well respected is probably the only obvious similarity as their work is almost of complete opposites. Stanislavski was born in 1863 to a wealthy family who loved amateur theatricals. In 1898 he met Vladimir Nemirovich Danchenko and they founded the Moscow Art Theatre. Stanislavski s work is centred on the notion that acting should be a total lifelike expression of what is being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brechts work is based on the concept that theatre is a means of political persuasion for the masses. He sees the theatre as a tool to manipulate the audience, and to influence their day to day living once that have thought about issues raised during the performance. Stanislavski was very sure of the role of his actors within the theatre. The actors are there to create a real, emotional and truthful imitation of the character they are playing, and to be so life like that they seem to become their character. He said that the Purpose of our art is to create the life of a human soul and render it in an artistic form. (2) Which is quite a clear illustration of the purpose or role of stanislavskian actors. Stanislavski set out a way of preparing for a role so that the actor could fulfil his role of pure imitation. He started off by asking the actor to explore the character. He wanted to know what their objective was in each unit of action and what their super objective was. The super objective was the sum of all the units and their objectives. In a play the whole stream of individual minor objectives, all the imaginative thoughts, feelings and actions of an actor, should converge to carry out the super objective of the plot Once actors can find some direction or purpose (objective or super objective) then it is easier, according to Stanislavski, to immerse themselves in the character. He noted You mustn t act in general , for the sake of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Psychopathy Research Paper The jurisdiction of psychopathy is a terrifying disorder. Sufferers often develop antisocial behavior, marked by maladaptive personality traits. For centuries, many causes behind this disorder have been speculated, but the etiology remains inconclusive. There are three mainstream etiologies presented today, however they consist of biological, environmental, and social factors which may be equal in support. If the rise of psychopathydevelops from biosocial conditions, is there an effective treatment and therefore cure for an adult psychopath? There is vast and varied literature which attempts to explain every detail about this confounding disorder. • 7. Jimmy Smith Rap The facts of the case: Jimmy Smith, a jazz organist in the late 1900 s, released an album called Off The Top on Elektra/Asylum in 1982. The last song on the album, titled Jimmy Smith Rap , or JSR, was a spoken recording. Among the lyrics, it said, Jazz is the only real music that s gonna last. All that other bullshit is here today and gone tomorrow. But jazzwas, is and always will be. Prior to this song being released on the album, the label did not list a composer for JSR, nor was the composition copyright registered with the U.S. Copyright Office or a performing rights organization (Peppe, 2017). In September of 2013, Drake released his third studio album called, Nothing Was the Same , wih Cash Money Records and Universal Republic Records. One of the 16 tracks, called Pound Cake /Paris Morton Music 2 featuring Jay Z, had an introduction with about 35 seconds of the Jimmy Smith Rap . On this song, he cuts down the lyrics, ... Judge Pauley, after evaluating the use of JSR in Drake s song, came to the conclusion that Because this purpose is sharply different from Jimmy Smith s purpose in creating the original track, Defendants use is transformative and this factor weighs in favor of a finding of fair use (Maddaus, 2017). Judge Pauley also explained that Smith s phrase is an unequivocal statement on the primacy of jazz over all other forms of popular music, while Drake s edit turns it into a statement that real music, with no qualifiers, is the only thing that s gonna last (Collins, 2017). Based on this finding, the district court was able to grant the defendants summary judgement motion. On May 30 of 2017, Judge Pauley dismissed the suit. This is precisely the type of use that adds something new, with a further purpose or different character, altering the first [work] with new expression, meaning, or message, the judge wrote, quoting U.S. Supreme Court precedent on fair use (Donahue, ... • 8. Civil Disobedience Necessary Anyone in a free society where the laws are unjust has an obligation to break the law. Henry David Thoreau Thoreau wholeheartedly agreed with the idea of questioning a law that many find unjust, and many agree with him. Citizens that engage in Civil Disobedience are not overextending any form of right, but are in fact using the ones given to them by their constitution. Also, by engaging in civil disobedience, citizens are criticizing their government, something that was encouraged in the Greek and Roman republics which the United States bases the government upon. Civil Disobedience is remarkably effective without the violence that many had thought necessary. Several famous examples include the Salt March of Mahatma Gandhi, the Civil Rights movement of Martin Luther King Jr., and even the sit ins of the factory workers during the industrial revolution. Although, many still argue that civil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those politicians and inhabitants of the first thirteen colonies that had fought the war against Britain, thought it important, based on their own experiences, that their citizens be able to question their government. After the issues with the power of the British Monarchy, they sought out to prevent another abuse of power and set their own government to reflect this necessary freedom. Today, people migrate to America in droves to gain this freedom, for where they had come from, they would have been killed. It is not a freedom to be taken for granted, seeing as it had done so much for the minorities of the United States, and while it isn t perfect yet, with more Civil Disobedience it could be. Overall, Civil Disobedience is an important part of the United States and what it is. If America did not have the laws protecting those who had protested against the crimes of the government, it would not have made the progress that it has. • 9. The Salem With Trials Salem Witch Trials The 17th century was filled with mystery because of the strong beliefs in the supernatural powers and the presence of Satan on Earth in the colonial North America. Witchcraft, the use of magical faculties, was mainly used by the peasants with a particular charm of being associated with the evil spirits and demons to prosper in their agricultural activities. In fact, many literatures were written on witchcraft during that period. For instance, Joseph Glanvill in 1668, claimed to have proof of the existence of these powers in witches and ghosts in his thesis titled Against Modern Sadducism . Along with this thesis, other works by Cotton Mather, a minister at the Boston North Church, created the fear among the people about the wandering and meandering of demons on Earth (Adams, 2009). As a result, there was caution and concern among people from all quarters regarding the activity of witchcraft and black magic. This proves the common mindset of the society and the religious views and beliefs were blindly followed during those days; particularly when Christianity was almost occult. In the Salem Village (currently Denver, Massachusetts), people believed that ills and misfortunes were a result of the Devil s tricky activities. Hence, natural events such as infant deaths, failure of crops, conflicts and friction in the society were attributed to the supernatural powers. There were numerous accusations on witchcraft activities for all the unusual outbreak of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the end of the story they line up back in front of the mailbox, where miss moore asked what they thought about the F.A.O Schwarz. • 11. Reflection About Service During the summer and the first quarter of my freshman year, I performed several hours of service because service, to me, is important and brings me closer to God. During the summer, I volunteered at my church s sport summer camp. There I watched over the children who were around the ages of five to ten. Other counselors and myself, watched over the children while their parents were at work. I helped the children play sports such as basketball and volleyball as well as even spent time with some of the children making friendship bracelets. I spent a week volunteering at this camp because, for me, doing service brings me closerto the life Jesus said we should live; it helps me to not think about myself for once and to think about other people. Additionally, over the summer I also volunteered at Sportime summer camp. There I did similar things which included playing sports and rely games with the children as well as helping them with arts and crafts. I volunteered there because it was seven hours a day when I would focus on the children and help them with whatever they needed. At both Sportime and my church, the heads of the camps were grateful for my help because they were low on volunteers and staff members. I agreed to help because I did not see a better way to spend my time. It meant a lot for me to be able to be such a help to those people. In my second quarter, I volunteered at OLMA s annual Christmas Tea Party. There, I helped set up the tables with hot water and sugar as well as helped serve food and dessert. I made sure everyone s kettles were always filled with hot water and that there was enough tea for everyone. Additionally, I helped clear the tables and throw away people s garage during the event. After the event, I cleared all the tables from the dross and tablecloths, along with the other volunteers. In addition, I helped to bring the cups and kettles that needed to be washed back to the kitchen. The week before I knew that the people running the event were in need of some student volunteers because they did not have many, so I was glad to volunteer. The people there were happy to have my help and I was more than glad to offer it. I felt closer to God as I gave up my time to help others in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the reasons is that the writers of the literature necessarily are influenced by the society they live in. In The Time Machine, the writer H. G. Expectation of human reason and confidence in science, which were influenced by civil revolution and industrial revolution, made many people look forward to more advanced societies. However, as modern problems including the gulf between rich and poor became serious, criticism against harmful effects of industrialization started to arise. The emergence of literature about dystopia showed this criticism. Similarly, time traveller in the book looked the future society as utopia. He said that the whole earth had become a garden. (30). He also believed in a perfect conquest of Nature (32). However, as he discovered the real aspect of future society, he admitted that his first theory that the future is utopia was totally wrong. It is actually dystopia which is far different from what he expected. The time traveller suggested that because of too perfect and secure environment, the human in upperworld had dwindled in size, strength and intelligence (49). • 18. German Left Wing Terrorists Prior to Germany s Autumn of Terror in 1977, concrete events lead the country down a path where a necessary political student movement transpired and very quickly turned the student group into a terrorist organization. Specifically, the attacks in May of 1972 launched the Red Army Factions crusade against the government and the public. Just like the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austrian throne, by Bosnian Serb nationalists sparked World War I, the killing of a teenager, Benno Ohnesorg, by German police sparked a radical student movement that would change Germanyonce again. The death of Benno Ohnesorg was also a reminder of government sanctioned murders during World War II under Hitler, which was once again present in post war Germany. Moreover, individualism from youths inspired the idea of needing an opposition party so Germany does not keep bonds with old practices. The youths felt that conservatives needed to be pushed a side in order for the country to move forward. Deriving from the student protest movement in West Germany, the Red Army Faction s attacks and juvenile reactions, during their first and second generational existence, ultimately led Germany to a third reign of terror giving even less credibility to the left wing radical group and their political ideology; further leading to the leaders suicidal, arguably homicidal, deaths. Mom made the announcement while we were riding in the car. My sister and I mourned over our lives we were leaving behind for the remainder of that ride. Our brains were programmed to adapt to new things rapidly, so the mourning stage did not last very long. I guess you could call it a survival instinct. Anyway, just after two days of the decision, our house immediately began to be packed up. Everything we owned had to be stuffed into the smallest amount of boxes possible. The protection of this quot;individuality quot; poses a problem. What causes harm and what ultimately leads to good? When should government step in and when should it let things be? Knowing where that line is tough. Article Review Brittany Loy Nebraska Methodist College Miscommunication, medication errors, and lack of compliance commonly occur in the healthcare field. These are just a few of the errors that occur due to the patient being from a different culture than the physician or healthcare worker. Those three errors alone have a huge impact on our healthcare today. If we could have a better understanding of other cultures that are different from our own we could have a dramatic decrease in errors and a great increase in healthcare participation. Training must be completed and must be done in more than one way. The first step is to make sure that all physicians and health care workers get the same nationwide training that focuses on improving cultural competence. How this is completed must be done in more than one way (Horwitz, 2001). The goal in fixing/decreasing this issue is to make sure the team has cultural competence. Cultural competence in healthcare has been operationalized as the ability to provide high quality care for patients with diverse values, beliefs, and behaviors, including the customization of service delivery and administration to meet the patients social and cultural needs (Anderson, 2003). The contrast of her worship in the Egyptian world and the Greco Roman world is particularly fascinating as her worship had evolved over the course of time. In each of these time periods, as her worship continued temples were built in her name in Egypt and in Greece. The origins of Isis aren t entirely known, however the first evidence of Isis was found in the fifth dynasty in the sun temple of Niuserre. It was the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x. To some people it is known as the Zack Morris phone. He used this phone on a regular basis in a popular television show called Saved by the bell which took place in the late 80 s to early 90 s. It was an extremely large device compared to the ones we are used to now and it was only designed to make phone calls. It was not often used for personal use like today. They were primarily used in the sales and business world, but not for personal use like you see today said Kreg Jones, an industrial designer and industrial design instructor at the Art institute of Philadelphia ( The History and Evolution of Cell Phones ). Initially cell phones could only make phone calls. In later cell phones eventually voicemail was added, but the main feature was still talking. Eventually companies realized the potential to integrate other technologies into the phones. The earliest smart phones integrated email access and allowed the phone to be used as an address book, pager, and fax machine. Cell phones more recently picked up the name mobile device as the purpose has shifted to more of a multimedia device rather than just a phone used for only direct communication. Going to Canada by Warren Cariou Through his creative non fiction piece Going to Canada , Warren Cariou proposes that our traditional view of Canada is superficial and fabricated from cover up stories; we need to look beneath the surface of central issues to construct a well rounded understanding. Cariou travels to Auschwitz and is quite intrigued by the warehouse called Canada, which is used to store stolen goods from prisoners. He questions how the Canada located in the internment camp got its name and what significance the name plays. Initial reflection upon the meaning of Canada suggests the prisoners named it as a place for freedom and solace. However, later evidence suggested that it was actually named by Nazi Commanders. There seemed to be no direct connection between the warehouse and the country until Cariou returned to Canada and visited several northern Aboriginal communities. Cariou emphasizes the significance of stories of First Nations as agents of remembering and forgetting; they show the theft and dehumanization that Aboriginals are subjected to. Through the numerous parallels, it became evident that there is a clear connection between the warehouse and the country. Cariou claims that as Canadians, our perspective is shaped from cover up stories and prevents us from seeing the connection that exists between the two.
