The Medical Equipment Rental Industry
The market size of the medical equipment rental industry has seen a large increase over the past
five years. Starting in 2009, the market has seen an increase due to both a recession and the rising
costs of medical equipment (Turk). Because of both of these factors, medical facilities have been
forced to cut back and find new ways to save money. Through this industry, hospitals have begun to
rent their medical equipment rather that to buy it, saving the facilities money while not hurting
patient care. According to IBIS World, the medical equipment rental industry makes around a 1.3
billion dollar profit each year as well as employing around twenty thousand employees (Turk).
Furthermore, the market is growing at 4.7 percent annually and is expected to grow even faster in
future years (Turk). While the medical equipment rental industry seems like it is targeted to one
group of consumers the market actually segmented into many different groups. The market is
initially segmented based on the type of device (Research). For instance, medical equipment
industries would market surgical equipment differently than home care medical equipment or
digital equipment. In addition to segmenting the market based on the type of equipment, the market
is also segmented by the end user (Research). When referring to end user the company will
segment their market based on who is going to use it. For example, the companies would market
products that someone would use for in home care different

Metropolitan Museum Of Art Analysis
Upon visiting the virtual art collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, (TMMoA), the
home page noted that the Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History, (TMMoA), had multiple different
galleries of art dating from 8000 BCE to the contempory times. Their timeline collection is
organized in a chronological format, which I believe makes it very easy to locate different types
of art belonging to a certain time period and it appears that no one gallery is more important than
another. The timeline I chose was the prehistoric period dating from 3800 B.C.E. to 1600 B.C.E.,
(TMMoA). The first piece of art that I found was a ceramic jar that was painted brown with black
decorations of what appears to be a goat with very big horns. The curator had noted

Compare And Contrast Unfolding Bud And Nothing Gold Can Stay
In Nothing Gold Can Stay the author is discussing natures first green and how it is golden and
never lasts long. Likewise in Unfolding Bud it is comparing an unfolding bud to poetry,
gradually unfolding. In both the poem Nothing Gold Can Stay and the poem Unfolding Bud the
author uses nature to develop the theme of living life to it s fullest by using comparisons,
symbolism, and imagery. The poem Unfolding Bud conveys the theme of enjoying the golden
part of your life with the use of analogy. The author writes, One is not amazed, At a first glance,
By a poem, Which is as tight closed As a tiny bud. This quote shows the author comparing a
poem to a tightly closed flower bud. Koriyama also writes, Yet one is surprised To see the poem
Gradually unfolding Revealing its rich inner self, As one reads it Again And over again. As well
as the other quote, this one shows the poem unfolding revealing it s inner self almost like a person

He writes, Nature s first green is gold, . This shows that the first green after winter is being
symbolized by gold. Frost also writes, Her early leaf s a flower; But only so an

After it s gone, everything goes back to normal, Then leaf subsides to leaf, so Eden sank to grief,
so dawn goes down to day, nothing gold can stay. The pair of poems, Nothing Gold Can Stay and

My Life Of The Dixie Chicks
On August 17, 2016, as I sat in row GG seat 4, I realized that my childhood had come to a close.
Just seven days shy of starting a new chapter in my life, college, I was standing in Bridgestone
Arena in the presence of the Dixie Chicks. Since I was a little girl, I have been listening to their
music through out every part of my life. I can remember as a three year old, blonde headed little
girl, my daddy would put one of their CDs in the radio and dance around the living room with
me standing on his feet. On Sunday afternoons, when I was around the age of six, my Mi mi,
Uncle David, and I would pile into their jeep and go for a ride down some back roads with their
music playing in the background. Or as a thirteen year old girl, knowing every single word to
Travelin Solider. Now as an eighteen year old, as I listened to the song being played, I thought to
myself, This is it. I am about to enter a brand new chapter in my life.
Rewind to six months earlier, it was Valentine s Day and my parents were getting ready to give
my sister and I our gifts. We were handed a small, narrow wrapped box that contained tickets to
the DCX MMXVI World Tour. My parents had bought tickets for them, my sister, and I. This tour
was said to be the final tour that the Dixie Chicks would perform and we were going to the concert
in Nashville. Since I had a love for the group from birth, I was ecstatic! It was just a waiting game
after we received the tickets because the concert was six months

BHIND THE SHILED
BEHIND THE SHILED is a police drama that sends strong messages about the challenges that face
law enforcement. The messages are relevant and the events in the script are similar to real life
recent events involving civilians and law enforcement.
The story focuses on four cops patrolling the streets with the lead character of O Donnell being a
veteran cop struggling with both professional and personal issues. The script does a good job of
showing what patrol officers go through. It s similar to the film END OF WATCH.
While the messages are well appreciated, the script could use more development.
One concern is the that there s no real actionable or external goal for the main character of O
Donnell. There s no strong hook. It s not until page 86 that the issue or complaint about police
brutality is introduced and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Remember, the protagonist needs to drive the story.
The dialogue has strengths and weaknesses. The dialogue nicely conveys the message about the
lives of police officers. It does push an agenda, so be careful of sounding too preachy. Sometimes
there too much dialogue. On page 98, the dialogue needs to be broken up vs. long passages. It s a
bit challenging to believe that O Donnell would also be so sarcastic towards the DA when
questioned. He s a veteran cop, so he probably wouldn t be so disrespectful.
Finally, there are numerous formatting errors and some misspellings. These issues to affect the
read and the pace. The formatting isn t properly aligned or spaced. There should be no space in
between the character element and the dialogue. There are too many spaces between the narrative
descriptions and the character elements (example page 1). There are several missing scene
headings when the characters go to a new location or get out of a car, (page 2). Introduce a
character properly (i.e. age) when first introduced. There s wrong dialogue formatting on page

Problem Of Homelessness In The United States
Homelessness. It s a problem all over the United States, a problem all over Missouri, and a
problem all over the entire St. Louis area. About 30% of people who are chronically homeless
have mental health conditions about 50% have co occurring substance use problems. A lot of those
homeless individuals do have jobs, in fact almost half (44%) of homeless people have jobs. This
shows that there is more to homelessnessthan just not having a home. Although those that are
homeless do have jobs most of them don t pay enough, to get homeless individuals in better paying
jobs programs need to be made to help the homeless get over their addictions, help them get rid of
the effects of their mental illnesses, and help them get an education.

Defining Characteristics Of The 12 Step Approach
Introduction A brief overview of the defining characteristics of the 12 step approach (Baldwin et
al., 2011, Bateson, 1971, Jellinek, 1960, Lacan and Miller, 1998, Raikhel and Garriott, 2013,
Schenker, 2009, University of Chester, 2016, Wilcox, 1998) with particular focus on its
definition (NCCMH, 2008) and UK based studies (Best et al., 2001, Day et al., 2005, Harris et
al., 2003) recognising the translatability of the 12 steps relating to higher power and personal
responsibility (Appendix 1, p.11) create tensions for client/patient engagement (Best et al.,
2001, Harris et al., 2003) and staff/professional referral (Day et al., 2005). A commissioned
report by National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH, 2008) by National
Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and a recent 8 year review of the
aforementioned (NICE, 2016) inform current NICE guidelines including referrals to 12 step
(NICE, 2007). The current evidence base (NCCMH, 2008) uses a systematic review of the
literature (McAuliffe, 1990, Etheridge et al., 1999, Moos et al., 1999, Fiorentine and Hillhouse,
2000, Toumbourou et al., 2002, Weiss et al., 2005, Timko et al., 2006). An 8 year review of the
evidence (NICE, 2016) finds no new evidence to warrant evolving the existing guideline, providing
supporting evidence and emerging evidence to inform the current guidelines (Johnson et al., 2006,
Kelly et al., 2010, Laudet et al., 2006, McKellar et al., 2009, Timko and DeBenedetti, 2007). A

Essay about Literary Analysis of The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe
Literary Analysis of The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe The life of Edgar Allan Poe was as morbid and
melancholy as his works. After
the abandonment by his father and the disturbing death of his mother, both prominent
traveling actors, Edgar was reluctantly forced into orphanage. He was later taken into the
home of John Allan, a wealthy tobacco merchant. Their relationship was shaky, at best,
and the contention between the two would last until Allan s death, where his will left
nothing for Poe. Amidst these calamities, came only more distress. The death John
Allan s wife, the woman who cared for Poe after his mother died, and a large amount of
debts acquired from gambling that forced him into early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The parallelism of Poe s own personal
problems with those of the narrator in The Raven, and the repetitive verse by the raven,
makes the reader aware of Poe s prominent tone of melancholy. A strong device for the
melancholic tone is Poe s life experiences. The narrator s sorrow for the lost Lenore is
paralleled with Poe s own grief regarding the death of his wife. Confined in the chamber
are memories of her who had frequented it. These ghostly recollections bring out a state
of eager anticipation in the reader to know and be relieved of the bewilderment that the
narrator and consequently Poe himself are experiencing; the narrator ponders whether he
will see his wife in the afterlife.
After Virginnia s lingering death, Poe tried to relieve his grief by drinking. A
parallelism is formed in The Raven between the condescending actions of the raven
towards the narrator and the taunting of alcohol towards Poe. The raven condescends that
Poe will never see his lost love again when uttering, forget this lost Lenore, in line 84.
Alcohol taunts Poe into ceaseless depression and caused him to have a life long problem
with alcoholism, which eventually led to his death. In a similar manner to which

America s Love For Illegal Drugs
We ve seen the imagery what seems like daily here in the United States, decapitated bodies
hanging off a bridge on a major Mexican Highway, a banner above displaying drug cartel
propaganda. The photos of car after car riddled with what seems to be hundreds of bullets,
broken and blood smeared windows with bloody sheets covering the bodies of those who were
attacked. The violence in Mexico has taken the lives of an estimated hundred thousand people
since the official declaration of war made by President Felipe Calderon in 2006. It s estimated that
over sixty thousand deaths occurred during his presidency From December 1, 2006 to November

The poll taken in 2012 showed drug use is also steadily increasing across the board; the highest
representation of people using drugs would be those in the 18 25 age range, where 23% of 18 20
year olds who were polled stated they had tried a recreational drug. 19.7% of 21 25 year old
polled stated they had tried recreational drugs. The surprising statistic is in the above 50 age range,
where there is a steady increase in drug use with about 7 percent polled stating they had used drugs.
There is clearly a high demand for recreational drugs in the United States, and because of this
drug cartels all through Mexico and South America have thrived for decades. This essay will
explore some of the reasons why Mexican Cartels have thrived in the new Millennium creating a
drug trade that is estimated to bring The Cartels over 3 billion dollars in profits this year alone. It
will also explore the tactics used by both the United States and Mexico in combatting the illicit drug
trade and the cartels that have their hands firmly in their control.
The Cartels:
The Sinaloa Cartel is recognized as the world s most powerful drug cartel, it operates in 17 of
Mexico s 31 states. The Sinaloa Cartel is a multi billion dollar operation, and the largest in
Mexico. It s rise to prominence was one of circumstance and great leadership, the Sinaloa Cartel
saw it s rise when Joaquin El Chapo Guzman took control of the cartel in the early 1980 s when it

Sonnet Analysis
Reclaiming the Sonnet:
Cummings and Millay s Contemporary Use of the Classical Poetic Form Fourteen lines, iambic
pentameter, rhyme scheme the classical form of the sonnet has been employed by poets since the
thirteenth century. Whether the Italian Petrarchan, the English Shakespearean or other variations
on the quatorzain, some of the most widely read poets have risen to fame as sonneteers. Typically
sonnets address romantic love or lust, but occasionally poets will lyrically meditate on nature,
spirituality or other universal aspects of the human condition; however, modern poets have broken
from the traditional sonnet form and subject matter to put a contemporary twist on the popular
fourteen line model. American poets E.E. Cummings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker personifies his nation, proclaiming with second person pronouns, i love you land of
the pilgrims and so forth and later stating, thy sons acclaim your glorious name. The orator muses
over America s war efforts the way other poets might idolize a young fair maiden or exalt the
wonders of the natural world, the speechmaker inquires, why talk of beauty, claiming, what could
be more beautiful than these heroic happy dead who rushed like lions to the roaring slaughter.
Cummings points out the absurdity of extreme patriotism and the dangers accompanying glorified
militarism with a speaker who praises his nation s violent efforts with the romantic rhetoric of love
poetry.
In addition to the heightened romantic language of the love poem, occasionally sonneteers will
also utilize capitalization to convey a specific emotion regarding the poem s subject. For example,
in his popular 116th and 18th sonnets, respectively, Shakespeare plays with capitalization in several
lines, including Love s not Time s fool and Nor shall Death brag. Capitalizing certain words that
encompass great meaning or emotion as Shakespeare indicates with Time and Death aids poets in
emphasizing the essential nature of said terms and their importance within the sonnet.
Cummings does not follow Shakespeare s practice

Tecumseh ,Shawnee war chief, was born at Old Piqua, on the Mad River in western Ohio. In

Tecumseh slowly transformed his brother s religious following into a political movement. In 1808
Tecumseh and the Prophet moved their village to the juncture of the Tippecanoe and Wabash rivers,
where the new settlement, Prophetstown, continued to attract Indians. After the loss of much
Indian land at the Treaty of Fort Wayne, Tecumseh gradually eclipsed his brother as the primary
leader of the movement. He traveled throughout the Midwest urging tribes to form a political
confederacy to prevent any further erosion of their lands. In November 1811, while Tecumseh was
in the South attempting to recruit the Creeks into his confederacy, U.S. forces marched against
Prophetstown. In the subsequent Battle of the Tippecanoe they defeated the Prophet, burned the
settlement, and destroyed the Indians food supplies. After returning from the South Tecumseh tried
to rebuild his shattered confederacy. But when the War of 1812 broke out, he withdrew to
Michigan where he assisted the British in the capture of Detroit and led pro British Indians in small
actions in southern Michigan and northern Ohio (Fort Meigs). When William Henry Harrison
invaded Upper Canada, Tecumseh reluctantly accompanied the British retreat. He was killed by

Fordlandia: The Rise and Fall of Henry Ford s Forgotten Jungle City
Henry Ford may be best known as the founder of Ford Motor Company and as the creator of the
first model T, but what you may not know, is that he owned 25 million acres of land in the
Amazon, where he attempted to establish the largest rubber plantation in the world. Greg Grandin,
in his book Fordlandia: The Rise and Fall of Henry Ford s Forgotten Jungle City, talks about Ford
as an idealist who took on many projects and was determined to see them succeed; focusing chiefly
on the discussion of his rubber plantation project.

lumber, coal, and iron oar to be made into steel. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was the case when Brazil was the number one exporter of rubber, but the boom of rubber
production in Asia was so considerable, that Brazil could no longer compete.
In 1927 Ford sent a botanist named LaRou, to survey the land in Brazil and find a suitable
location for rubber production. He was responsible as well for reporting the condition of the
rubber tappers in the area, who were fever stricken ... [having] horrible wounds and sores on
their legs and feet. They [were] always nearly naked, covered merely by rags (p.88). Upon
hearing of the poverty of the workers, it became more of a social project than an economic one.
Besides establishing a profitable rubber plantation, his objective became to establish model towns .
His mission was to civilize the people, while having them obey his rules.
Ford acquired 25 million acres of amazon forests along the Tapajos River. The town that he created
is now known as Fordlandia. In that town, he funded the building of a hospital, as well as a water
purification plant to provide the employees with clean drinking water. He also tried to improve their
nutrition, teach them proper hygiene, and teach them to be economical while paying them decent

The Bolshevik Economic Policy During The Civil War
HOW SIGNIFICANT WAS BOLSHEVIK ECONOMIC POLICY DURING THE RUSSIAN
CIVIL WAR FOR THE SOVIET UNION?
The Bolshevik Economic Policy during the Civil War was significant for the Soviet Union as it
helped to win the war and was the first implementation of Communist ideology anywhere. In
addition, it affected many people, led to the Tambov Revolt and the Kronstadt Mutiny and had long
term political consequences. The Bolsheviks aim was to dismantle the outdated structure of Tsarist
regime and create a new economic system beneficial to all by introducing first Trotsky s War
Communism and subsequently the New Economic Policy [NEP]. As historians we measure
significance by the consequences of an event. Therefore, this essay will argue that the Bolshevik
Economic Policy s main significance was that it represented a major turning point in the running of
the country, that the introduction of War Communism led to success in the Civil War, and that its
subsequent failure led to the NEP with its own consequences for the Soviet Union.
War Communism, the measures introduced to gear the economy for the war effort and the first
part of the Bolshevik Economic Policy, represented a turning point for the Soviet Union because it
helped the Red Army to win the Civil War; in addition it was the first implementation of
Communism anywhere, therefore this was the most significant effect. To defeat the White Army
Trotsky developed ways to keep his army well supplied and battle ready. Food was

The massive building and production of cement cause dust and other harmful particles to submerge
into the urban cities of Albania.
Urban wastes and water pollution are a serious health threat to the urban population. Despite
Albania s rich sources of water, the pollutant discharges are causing lack of freshwater in the cities,
only 60% of the population have access to a drinking water supply.
Sanitation has been a problem in the country for a long time. The poor state of sewage collection
and systems cause contamination to both drinking water and soil. There is a large amount of
sickness associated with the water pollution. The levels of shigellosis and typhoid fever are very
high in Albania; and the monthly statistics of food and waterborne diseases show that shigellosis
infections linger in the country throughout the year. It is also estimated that each year 500 deaths in
the city are caused by air and water pollution. The immense usage of cars and vehicles also propose
a large threat to air pollution and the health of the population.
In spite of the air pollution in Albania being caused mostly by outdoor issues, such as cars and
industrial plants; there are still problems involving indoor air quality in Albania. Out of the 12
schools monitored by the WHO pilot surveys, the results conclude that the biggest concern is low
temperature and poor ventilation especially during the winter.

The Indian Ocean Trade included overland and sea trade routes that extended from China to the
Swahili Coast to the Middle East. It provided easy access to cheaper and more frequent trade during

The Role and Nature of Power
Definition of Power
The role and nature of power is often contested in its definition and can be seen as a broad and
generic term. Building blocks of Power include factors such as population, territory, wealth, political
stability and competence, and military strength (armies and navies). , Military power will be used
as the constituent of power for this essay.
There are two important categories of power within the International System. These are
distinguished as Potential and Actual Power.
Potential Power
Based on population size and the level of wealth of a state. Population and wealth are the main
components of military power.
Actual Power
This is based on the military forces that directly support a state.

Personal Experience on Self-Change
Individuals are products of their life experiences, with the ability to create and modify behavior; the
ultimate goal of alteration of a behavior is improving some aspect of your life through analysis, and
implementation of sequential procedures. For this project, I have chose to modify an increase in
my daily water consumption, with the intention to enhance overall health and wellness. Water is an
essential element for the survival of the human body. At least 20% of water necessary each day is
consumed through the foods you eat, with direct consumption of water the most effective and
beneficial method of rehydration. Each day, water is lost through the process of urination,
respiration and perspiration, and in order for these bodily functions to occur water must be
continually replaced through our daily diet. When water is not consumed individuals are at risk of
dehydration, which can negatively impact the human body. These symptoms include thirst,
headaches, dry skin, fatigue, join and muscle pain. As a full time university student, working part
time with social commitments throughout the day it is often difficult to intentionally reflect on
how much water I have consumed, with in some instances not having access to a water bottle at all
times. Research suggests, that the transtheoretical modelof change, also known as the stages of

know that this is not the reason why I use or recommend IQOption. I ve been trading with them
since day one (see above) and I m very happy thus far. Plus, the fact that they are regulated gives
me peace of mind. There are a few decent binary options brokers you can use. IQOption is just
easier to use and is one of the very few binary options brokers I trust with my money. Since I m
open to new suggestions, I did stray to Goptions a couple months ago per a recommendation.
Goptions is pretty easy to use and has a sexy user interface, but I had a bad experience. My
money and bad experiences do not mix. I won t go into detail or bash Goptions because they
aren t as terrible as others are, but I ve since closed my account. Update: Goptions has since
ceased operations. To trade with IQOption, you only need a $10 deposit into your trading account
to get started. I would suggest at least $500 or more otherwise the Martingale strategy could be
rendered useless. If you have to employ the Martingale too many times too early, and you haven t
grown your account or deposited the perfect amount ($500 $2000), you run the risk of draining
your account before you finally hit that winning trade. A $500 deposit is the sweet spot.

Analysis Of Blood Wedding By Federico GarcГa Lorca
The theater Blood Wedding is a folk tragedy which was produced by the Spanish dramatist
Federico GarcГa Lorca. In this theater, there are five main characters, including Leonardo, the
bride, the groom, the groom s mother, and Leonardo s wife. The author narrated the story in
Episodic plot structure, in which the overall effect is cumulative, we need to see many scenes
before we understand what is happening. The story happened on the day of a wedding in a
village, among a couple and a man. The couple were going to get married, but the bride who had
had been with a young man whose name was Leonardo for seven years, still had old affection with
Leonardo. In the morning of the wedding, at the wedding banquet, Leonardo and the bride danced...

In the theater Blood Wedding , there were some scenes mixed with Flamenco dance, which is
very popular in the Spanish literature. The beginning is a Spanish language plot with English
introduction. The dancing with the dancers at the beginning of the dance is a shadow, casting
on the screen behind the dancers. The shadow looks like the dancer but also not without doubt,
which undoubtedly indicates some things, heralding love behind the other protagonist it? Or the
same fate of both of the two main male characters? This was a tragedy, which happened between
two families, among a couple, and more, between the two men, whose fate may would be
shadowed or indicated in the Flamenco dance. The play was showed in a black box theatre,
where the spaces are easily built and maintained, and are usually home to plays or other
performances with very basic technical arrangements, such as limited set construction. For the
play Blood Wedding , the black box gave it sufficient space and room to make itself best, because
the space of the stage is versatile and easy to change. And there were some design challenges in the
play. In costumes, the play arranged no masks for the main characters, through which the play
emphasized the characters so that the audience can follow the emotion of the characters very well,
and can understand the the story theme better. When the climax of the plot came, the light of the
stage became red, the color of

South Meck Observation
Monday through friday South Meck is bustling with the activity of 3,030 students. My old high
school which continues to grow with every new school year is building the a second three story
building to house the influx of students. Along with the two large buildings there is an additional
six buildings, a gym, an auditorium, and three sets of trailers on either side of the school. Since
there are so many kids there are 5 different lunch times dedicated to certain buildings so that the
chaos of each 20 minute lunch period can be miniscule.
When I attended South Meck there was only three lunches, each 40 minutes long. This gave us

Most of the kids either ate a lunch they brought from home or they purchased a bag of doritos from
the vendor that was between the 2 cafeteria rooms. Some students didn t eat lunch at all. The
students who ate the school lunch had to wait in a long, slow moving line which deterred many
from eating it. The kids separated into their friend groups which for the most part had moderate
diversity with the exception of one or two groups who remained predominantly their own respective
race. One thing that remained consistent between all of the lunches is that the cafeteria was always
filled with students.
For this research, I asked one of my friends, Hannah, who still a student there to skype me in so I
could observe. We started to skype at the end of her class and I watched as her and other students
herded into the lunch building. She described what she witnessed as I paid close attention to the
screen. Many students were either speed walking or running toward the lunch lines while other
rushed to claim their spot in the cafeteria or hallway. Once all the spots are claimed in the

Sonnet Billy Collins
For today s analysis, I chose the poem Sonnet by Billy Collins. The author begins by stating all we
need is fourteen lines causing the reader to believe the poem is, in fact, a sonnet ( Sonnet 1). After
reading through, however, the conclusion can be made that the author does not follow many of the
various rules associated with writing a sonnet. For instance, the rhyme scheme of this poem is not
that of a sonnet at all. Normally, a Petrarchan sonnet would follow an a b b a, a b b a, and so on;
however, the author instead strays from the expected and has very little, if any, rhyming throughout
the entire piece. The only time any rhyme is seen is for the few slant rhymes the author includes
and even those do not contribute to making it a true sonnet. Another missing aspect of sonnet
writing is iambic pentameter. All of the lines, except the last, do not meet the guidelines of ten
syllables, but why? Since this is the ending of the poem and the speaker mentions to blowout the
candle maybe they are giving up on their rant ( Sonnet 14). Or it possibly could be to differentiate
from the rest of the poem and actually create a suitable line. Although many parts of the poem do
not meet the reader s expectations, one aspect of the poem that does meet the... Show more content

The conflict, therefore, would be the forced structure of sonnets and how it is easy unless you get
Elizabethan and insist the iambic bongos must be played ( Sonnet 5 6). The author clearly does
not like being confined to the rules of sonnet writing and address them here, but in the final six
lines, the sestet, the speaker addresses various aspects of typical sonnets, such as a resolved
conflict, longing and heartache, and also a reference to Petrarch and his love Laura. Why include
these in the sonnet if these exact aspects are the

Protecting Floodplains by Aaron Dante Mamiit
Protecting Floodplains by Aaron Dante Mamiit
Flooding is a constant issue faced by Metro Manila. Although there are times when flooding is
merely an inconvenient and annoying event, there are also times when it develops into something
much more frightening and dangerous.
But why is Metro Manila so badly plagued by floods anyway?
One of the reasons why Metro Manila constantly battles with the flood problem is because a large
part of it is situated on a floodplain.
What are floodplains?
Floodplains are landscapes that are formed when running water, often in streams and rivers,
transports eroded rock and other similar materials from their banks to a lower part of the Earth s
surface. At these lower parts, the flow of water slows down, and the rock and materials that the
water is carrying are dropped.
This leads to the creation of deposital landforms. One of these landforms is the floodplain.
Floodplains are nearly flat, hence the plains part of their name. The flood part, on the other hand,
should be pretty obvious these floodplains are subject to periodic flooding.
What happens on floodplains?
Flooding occurs when water overflows from a stream or river. When the water levels become too
high, the water flows out of the stream channel and over the stream banks, submerging the adjacent
floodplain.
As water overflows, the material it carries sediments such as sand, gravel, clay, and silt are
deposited on the floodplain.
The larger particles are deposited first, closer

How Did Julie Andrews Impact The Music Community
Julie Andrews has left her mark on a myriad of awards, titles, roles, styles, and even beloved
characters we all know and love with her natural grace and elegance. She has also experienced
one of the most fruitful, illustrious careers of all time. But even more significantly, Andrews has
impacted the music community by bringing a new air of elegance to the stage, raising the bar

impeccable, crystalline voice. Born on October 1st, 1935, to Barbara Ward Wells (a pianist) and

seventy nine year old performer was only eight, her stepfather decided to get her singing lessons.
Her teacher Lillian Stiles Allen was hired promptly and began instructing young Andrews in

Blockbuster s plan was to aggressively expand by opening new stores worldwide every day
(Bhide, 1996). However, real strategic change requires not merely rearranging the established
categories, but inventing new ones (Mintzberg, 1994).
Blockbuster failed to identify and embrace the advances in technology that resulted in a new,

Blockbuster failed to build on Redbox s innovation and recapture the DVD delivery market.
Solutions o Blockbuster should have listened to the requests of their consumers to alter their rental
policies, thus avoiding the need for customers to defect to Redbox to receive their desired level of

changed their methods of delivery to match the shift to digital streaming and shorter rental periods.

would have been able to develop more kiosks in convenient locations and increase revenues.

Drug Abuse Among American Teenagers
Drug abuse in America is a major problem. Especially among teenagers. Drugs have hurt the lives
of nearly 40 percent of all teenagers in America. Either with health problems, DWIs, highway
crashes, arrests, impaired school and job performance. These drugs that teenagers use range from
Alcohol, LSD, Marijuana, and even Cigarettes. Most of the teenagers that are involved in drug
abuse have either, broken families, parents that are drug abusers, a unstable environment where

If your inner containment is low, meaning that you don t have people that have put ideas into
your head about what s right and wrong, then your chance of being a drug abuser increases.
Outer containment is like the law, teachers, friends, and family. If you have a lot of people
around you that are constantly telling you drugs are bad, you will be less likely to get involved
with the drugs because you don t wanna let these people down. But if you don t have very many
people around you like teachers say if you dropped out or something. Then you don t have anyone
telling you not to do drugs, which means you will probably do them. But if you have a strong
social bond (i.e. attachment to parents, school, church, etc.) you will be less likely to become
deviant because you don t want to let them down.
If a person has a low inner and outer containment, they probably don t feel to great about
themselves either, and feel as if they are lost in society. They look for someone to lead them, or
look for a way out. When a person doesn t know what to do, they are more prone to get involved
with deviance. This theory is known as Anomie.
Differential Association ties in with the containment theory also. It means that people will learn to
be deviant (i.e. drug abuse) by the examples sent to them by important people in our lives. These
important people could be parents, and family. When you grow up you always look to your parents

How Did The Government Change Throughout The History Of...
Government throughout history and throughout different cultures has changed from one system to
another. People fight for power, and a steady government means usually means more prosperous
times. When bad times come, power levels may increase, overthrows are enacted, and sometimes
the system itself changes. Societies often go about this differently, and patters may be hard to find.
However, one thing that history seems to show is that rich people dominant the government. Social
classes have always been a part of society, and those who already have more money, education,
and resources tend to be the one s ruling over those who have less. Most people who rule are given
extra resources and valuable because they rule. But the pattern that is seen throughout history shows
people who already had much, getting power, instead of an average person getting to power, then
becoming rich. Ancient Egyptwas a society centered on the NileRiver. It was geographically
advantageous because the Nile allowed for food surplus and protection from invaders. The
government was dynastic succession with a Pharaoh as the leader. Egypt is a good example of
rich dominance in the government because no forms of regular people having a voice are seen.
As one of the earlier, powerful, and united (by Menes of Upper and Lower Egypt) societies, Egypt
had its time of economic prosperity. But, there was still a separation between standard of living in
the commoners versus the government and religious leaders.

In Sonny s Blues , theme, form, and image blend into perfect harmony and rise to a thundering

brothers struggle to understand one another. The older brother, a well off Harlem algebra teacher,

Sonny s answer, equating drug addiction with prison, and both with Harlem, shows his need to
reach his brother. The two men have finally begun to communicate with one another. The letters
continue until Sonny s return to New York when the narrator, who has started at last to worry about
Sonny, about the life that Sonny lived inside, takes him home. The narrator acts and feels awkward,
wanting only to hear that Sonny is safe and refusing to accept the fact that he might not be. Through
this we realize that the two brothers finally have an understanding for each other. Although the
understanding is limited, it grows immensely throughout the story.
In the flashbacks the narrator recalls events that bring together the past, present, and future. We
learn of another pair of brothers, Sonny s father and uncle. The uncle, like Sonny, was a
musician, but he was killed one night after being run over by some drunken white men. Parallels
are drawn between both their father and uncle and Sonny. The narrator s mother makes this

you hate nobody. I m telling you this because you got a brother. And the world ain t changed (41).
She tells her older son all this so he will look after his brother, but her death, occurring shortly after
this conversation, only shows the immeasurable gulf between the two boys. After the narrator was

Equine Metritis Research Paper
First scientifically reported in 1977, equine metritis is a sexually transmitted infection capable of
rapid transmission throughout a herd of the horse species (Timoney, 1996). The underlying
bacterial cause of this infection is Taylorella equigenitalis; this is a gram negative, microaerophilic,
coccobacillus bacterium with specific conditions for cultivation (Timoney, 1996; Powell, 1978).
The bacterium is not a free living organism; it must remain within or on the host animal to survive
(Timoney, 1996). Therefore, the microbe must be transferred between hosts to subsist.
Transmission of Taylorella equigenitalis can occur through natural service or artificial insemination.

Since an event in 1977 in which an outbreak of the infection occurred within the United Kingdom
and Ireland among Thoroughbred breeding populations, Taylorella equigenitalis has remained an
issue within the horse breeding community (Timoney, 1996). In 1978, the microbe entered the
United States in Kentucky and had a major economic effect on the state. Missouri and Wisconsin
experienced similar reverberations from equine metritis; all three states immediately looked to
eradicate this disease from the United States. The eradication was handled correctly, and the
United States became a contagious equine metritis free country. The horse breeding industry, as a
whole, was not overwhelmingly affected by the disease. However, in 2008, a stallion in Kentucky
tested positive for equine metritis which led to a probe into the industry unveiling twenty three
carrier stallions and five carrier mares belonging to eleven breeds and located in eight states.
Oddly, there were no reported clinical symptoms or reduction in pregnancy rates in these infected
animals. Nonetheless, the costs associated with the examinations into the horse breeding industry
were and are substantial. The main responsibility of regaining the United States status as
contagious equine metritis free lies on the backs of those involved in the horse breeding industry.
Proper prevention methods as aforementioned must be accomplished at any and all costs to ensure
an industry crippling outbreak of this disease will not occur again (Timoney, 2011). If this
infection returns as an epidemic, it would have a major economic effect. The horse industry has a
major economic influence with close to 112.1 billion dollars in Gross Domestic Product in the
United States. With the artificial insemination industry on the rise, breeding genetically superior
horses for recreation or sport has become a large industry in the United States with

The Good Earth By Pearl S. Buck
The literary works of a society contain an abundance of information concerning its culture in
regards to the time period that they were written in. Many significant documents written in
history have had a vital impact on certain civilizations . An example of this is the Xiao Jing,
which is a Chinese treatise that throughly explains the concept of filial piety. The Chinese
strictly adhered to and lived by the rules set forth in the Xiao Jing, therefore these written set of
rules greatly the influenced the way of life, behavior, and beliefs of Chinese people. A major
point covered in the Xiao Jing is the role and position women have in Chinese society. Women
were considered slaves, and their purposes in life were to serve the men they belonged to. The
Good Earth, by Pearl S. Buck is a novel that demonstrates the expectations and roles of women in
Chinese culture through the characters O lan and Lotus as their worths are determined by their
abilities to work, bear children, and/or please their men sexually like most women in China. The
novel begins with O Lan, Wang Lung s unattractive first wife, who he married while he was very

Politics And The English Language
Without a doubt, George Orwell was a visionary during his time. Having endured the period
where fascism and authoritarianism as a whole was at its strongest throughout the world, it is
unsurprising that he considered its menace the primary problem facing the world. Through his
essay, Politics and the English Language, he attempts to express his worry that the transformation
of the way in which English is used will have a direct impact on the minds of the general public.
Despite the passage of time since this piece was written, his argument certainly has a number of
strong points which one can clearly see in the modern era, yet it is not without its flaws. When
considering modern events, it appears more likely that it is not precisely the use of the English
language which is the main problem facing political debate today, but rather the ideas which
permeate society. When one considers, as Orwell describes it, instances of defending the
indefensible , such as the decision to invade Iraq without sufficient justification, was it actually the
language utilized by the administration that convinced people, or mere attitudes which permeated
society which were already biased against Arab people in general? It is difficult to construe
political speech in this type of situation as wholly untrue; there are too many additional factors,
particularly today in the age of mass media with visual elements, which have the ability to influence
individuals beyond merely the use of confusing

American Exceptionalism
American Exceptionalism is defined in literature as Americans deprecation of power politics and
old fashioned diplomacy, mistrust of powerful standing armies and entangling peacetime
commitments, their supposedly moralistic judgements about other people s domestic systems, and
belief that liberal values transfer readily to foreign affairs. The reason for American Exceptionalism
could be chased back to American Culture and American Spirit. Even though the United States
system is not subject to the same contradictions and influences as other countries. The belief in
American superiority finds its foundation in some of their culture s basic religious and cultural
constructs. And it s being confirmed that the mental and moral superiority of Americans being
actively reiterated by American culture to the American public via movies, television and political
rhetoric. The American Spirit is being realized for all Americans are told in media that only they
know how the world really works, and only they know how it should be worked. So the American
Exceptionlism is the result of American culture and spirit.
Harold Koh and Ted Bromund are keeping different opinions based on the influence of American
Exceptionlism. It is a debate between pure virtues and both good and bad . In my opinion,
American Exceptionalism has both good and bad sides and we should try to reduce the double
standards by following better angles of national nature.

The percentage of teenage accidents involving automobiles is on a constant rise. Whether caused
by the lack of experience or under the influence of alcohol, death has become all too common

Any way you look at it, 16 year old drivers represent a growing problem, adds Allen Williams,
senior vice president of the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (CNN). Accidents that
involve 16 year old drivers are not like those involving older drivers. For one thing, 16 year old
get in trouble trying to handle unusual driving situations, even small emergencies. More often
than when older people drive, such situation turn into disasters. Eighty two percent of all 16 year
old drivers in fatal crashes during 1996 made at least one driving error that contributed to the crash.
This compares with 68 percent of drivers 17 19 years old and 52 percent of drivers 25 49 years old
(CNN).
Training and educating programs can help teens learn driving skills, but these programs do not
produce safer drivers. The only thing that s taught in driver education is how to drive legally and
not responsibly. It s often not poor skills that cause the crashes in the first place. Its teenagers
attitudes. A vast majority of teens are thrill seekers, thinking they are bullet proof and invincible.
Thus the potential for death and destruction is great (Grant14). Teens naturally tend to rebel against
adult standards and regulations. Peer pressure influences teenagers much more than advice given

Essay about Bolshevik Consolidation of Power 19-17-1924
From the initial seizure of power in 1917 until 1924, the Bolsheviks were confronted with a
series of crises that threatened their ability to control and govern in Russia. The response and
resolutions to these crises included Initial Reforms, Treaty of Brest Litovsk, Civil War, Red
terror, War Communism and the NEP. Under the leadership of Lenin, the execution of these
responses were made possible and the Bolsheviks were able to maintain and expand their power.
The Civil War however was the direct consequence of the Bolshevik s actions as they tried to
maintain their grasp on power. The victory in the Civil War was extremely pivotal for the

their power and there was no more military threat from their opposition. The Civil war was vital
to the consolidation of power however it was only possible through the execution of War
communism. War communism was an economic policy the Bolsheviks had created to meet the
demands of war from 1918 1921. It forced manpower to either be directed to the Red Army or to
the industry. It also confiscated all grain and food and allocated it to where it would be most
productivity towards the war effort. The implementation of War Communism enabled the Red
Army to be supplied with both food and weaponry and industrial workers to be fed. This was
effective in allowing the Bolsheviks to maintain and effectively fight the civil war without the

the economy. The economy of Russia was shattered, there was a food shortage, fuel shortage and
money had absolutely no value. The rouble was only worth 1% of its value in 1918, 10million
died of starvation and agricultural output was 60% of pre war levels. War Communism enabled the
logistics of war to be met which enabled the victory however

these gains have not been seen equally across different regions, genders, and socioeconomic classes.
Various cofactors impact the quality and quantity of life for individuals. Interactions between both
intrinsic and extrinsic agingcontribute to variations in lifespan seen between people. The idea
that we are in control of how we age is comforting and troublesome as the level of control is often
varied. Numerous health promoting behaviors have been strongly associated with reduced age
related health concerns and a higher quality of life. Refraining from smoking, active lifestyle
choices, and frequent social participation all have health promoting tendencies, traits like these
could be considered highly available with few barriers to achieving their benefits. Meaning
everyone should be able to improve there projected aging by engaging in such traits. However,
not all factors are equally accessible education, gender, stress, diet, geographic location, and
genes all greatly impact the course of aging. With most of those factors determined at birth or
early life decision the consequences they have on aging is often not seen as a choice. Financial
constraints can negatively impact diet and level of activity direct impacting BMI. This is a
growing concern in Canada with a doubling of 60 69 year olds classified as obese since 1981
(Canadian Health Measures Survey). A high BMI

  • 2. The Medical Equipment Rental Industry The market size of the medical equipment rental industry has seen a large increase over the past five years. Starting in 2009, the market has seen an increase due to both a recession and the rising costs of medical equipment (Turk). Because of both of these factors, medical facilities have been forced to cut back and find new ways to save money. Through this industry, hospitals have begun to rent their medical equipment rather that to buy it, saving the facilities money while not hurting patient care. According to IBIS World, the medical equipment rental industry makes around a 1.3 billion dollar profit each year as well as employing around twenty thousand employees (Turk). Furthermore, the market is growing at 4.7 percent annually and is expected to grow even faster in future years (Turk). While the medical equipment rental industry seems like it is targeted to one group of consumers the market actually segmented into many different groups. The market is initially segmented based on the type of device (Research). For instance, medical equipment industries would market surgical equipment differently than home care medical equipment or digital equipment. In addition to segmenting the market based on the type of equipment, the market is also segmented by the end user (Research). When referring to end user the company will segment their market based on who is going to use it. For example, the companies would market products that someone would use for in home care different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Metropolitan Museum Of Art Analysis Upon visiting the virtual art collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, (TMMoA), the home page noted that the Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History, (TMMoA), had multiple different galleries of art dating from 8000 BCE to the contempory times. Their timeline collection is organized in a chronological format, which I believe makes it very easy to locate different types of art belonging to a certain time period and it appears that no one gallery is more important than another. The timeline I chose was the prehistoric period dating from 3800 B.C.E. to 1600 B.C.E., (TMMoA). The first piece of art that I found was a ceramic jar that was painted brown with black decorations of what appears to be a goat with very big horns. The curator had noted ... • 4. Compare And Contrast Unfolding Bud And Nothing Gold Can Stay In Nothing Gold Can Stay the author is discussing natures first green and how it is golden and never lasts long. Likewise in Unfolding Bud it is comparing an unfolding bud to poetry, gradually unfolding. In both the poem Nothing Gold Can Stay and the poem Unfolding Bud the author uses nature to develop the theme of living life to it s fullest by using comparisons, symbolism, and imagery. The poem Unfolding Bud conveys the theme of enjoying the golden part of your life with the use of analogy. The author writes, One is not amazed, At a first glance, By a poem, Which is as tight closed As a tiny bud. This quote shows the author comparing a poem to a tightly closed flower bud. Koriyama also writes, Yet one is surprised To see the poem Gradually unfolding Revealing its rich inner self, As one reads it Again And over again. As well as the other quote, this one shows the poem unfolding revealing it s inner self almost like a person peeling back their layers.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. My Life Of The Dixie Chicks On August 17, 2016, as I sat in row GG seat 4, I realized that my childhood had come to a close. Just seven days shy of starting a new chapter in my life, college, I was standing in Bridgestone Arena in the presence of the Dixie Chicks. Since I was a little girl, I have been listening to their music through out every part of my life. I can remember as a three year old, blonde headed little girl, my daddy would put one of their CDs in the radio and dance around the living room with me standing on his feet. On Sunday afternoons, when I was around the age of six, my Mi mi, Uncle David, and I would pile into their jeep and go for a ride down some back roads with their music playing in the background. Or as a thirteen year old girl, knowing every single word to Travelin Solider. Now as an eighteen year old, as I listened to the song being played, I thought to myself, This is it. I am about to enter a brand new chapter in my life. Rewind to six months earlier, it was Valentine s Day and my parents were getting ready to give my sister and I our gifts. We were handed a small, narrow wrapped box that contained tickets to the DCX MMXVI World Tour. My parents had bought tickets for them, my sister, and I. This tour was said to be the final tour that the Dixie Chicks would perform and we were going to the concert in Nashville. Since I had a love for the group from birth, I was ecstatic! • 6. BHIND THE SHILED BEHIND THE SHILED is a police drama that sends strong messages about the challenges that face law enforcement. The messages are relevant and the events in the script are similar to real life recent events involving civilians and law enforcement. The story focuses on four cops patrolling the streets with the lead character of O Donnell being a veteran cop struggling with both professional and personal issues. The script does a good job of showing what patrol officers go through. It s similar to the film END OF WATCH. While the messages are well appreciated, the script could use more development. One concern is the that there s no real actionable or external goal for the main character of O Donnell. There s no strong hook. It s a bit challenging to believe that O Donnell would also be so sarcastic towards the DA when questioned. He s a veteran cop, so he probably wouldn t be so disrespectful. Finally, there are numerous formatting errors and some misspellings. These issues to affect the read and the pace. The formatting isn t properly aligned or spaced. • 8. Defining Characteristics Of The 12 Step Approach Introduction A brief overview of the defining characteristics of the 12 step approach (Baldwin et al., 2011, Bateson, 1971, Jellinek, 1960, Lacan and Miller, 1998, Raikhel and Garriott, 2013, Schenker, 2009, University of Chester, 2016, Wilcox, 1998) with particular focus on its definition (NCCMH, 2008) and UK based studies (Best et al., 2001, Day et al., 2005, Harris et al., 2003) recognising the translatability of the 12 steps relating to higher power and personal responsibility (Appendix 1, p.11) create tensions for client/patient engagement (Best et al., 2001, Harris et al., 2003) and staff/professional referral (Day et al., 2005). A commissioned report by National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health (NCCMH, 2008) by National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and a recent 8 year review of the aforementioned (NICE, 2016) inform current NICE guidelines including referrals to 12 step (NICE, 2007). The current evidence base (NCCMH, 2008) uses a systematic review of the literature (McAuliffe, 1990, Etheridge et al., 1999, Moos et al., 1999, Fiorentine and Hillhouse, 2000, Toumbourou et al., 2002, Weiss et al., 2005, Timko et al., 2006). An 8 year review of the evidence (NICE, 2016) finds no new evidence to warrant evolving the existing guideline, providing supporting evidence and emerging evidence to inform the current guidelines (Johnson et al., 2006, Kelly et al., 2010, Laudet et al., 2006, McKellar et al., 2009, Timko and DeBenedetti, 2007). • 9. Essay about Literary Analysis of The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe Literary Analysis of The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe The life of Edgar Allan Poe was as morbid and melancholy as his works. After the abandonment by his father and the disturbing death of his mother, both prominent traveling actors, Edgar was reluctantly forced into orphanage. He was later taken into the home of John Allan, a wealthy tobacco merchant. Their relationship was shaky, at best, and the contention between the two would last until Allan s death, where his will left nothing for Poe. Amidst these calamities, came only more distress. The death John Allan s wife, the woman who cared for Poe after his mother died, and a large amount of debts acquired from gambling that forced him into early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The parallelism of Poe s own personal problems with those of the narrator in The Raven, and the repetitive verse by the raven, makes the reader aware of Poe s prominent tone of melancholy. A strong device for the melancholic tone is Poe s life experiences. The narrator s sorrow for the lost Lenore is paralleled with Poe s own grief regarding the death of his wife. Confined in the chamber are memories of her who had frequented it. These ghostly recollections bring out a state of eager anticipation in the reader to know and be relieved of the bewilderment that the narrator and consequently Poe himself are experiencing; the narrator ponders whether he will see his wife in the afterlife. After Virginnia s lingering death, Poe tried to relieve his grief by drinking. A parallelism is formed in The Raven between the condescending actions of the raven towards the narrator and the taunting of alcohol towards Poe. The raven condescends that Poe will never see his lost love again when uttering, forget this lost Lenore, in line 84.

  • 12. Sonnet Analysis Reclaiming the Sonnet: Cummings and Millay s Contemporary Use of the Classical Poetic Form Fourteen lines, iambic pentameter, rhyme scheme the classical form of the sonnet has been employed by poets since the thirteenth century. Whether the Italian Petrarchan, the English Shakespearean or other variations on the quatorzain, some of the most widely read poets have risen to fame as sonneteers. Typically sonnets address romantic love or lust, but occasionally poets will lyrically meditate on nature, spirituality or other universal aspects of the human condition; however, modern poets have broken from the traditional sonnet form and subject matter to put a contemporary twist on the popular fourteen line model. The speaker personifies his nation, proclaiming with second person pronouns, i love you land of the pilgrims and so forth and later stating, thy sons acclaim your glorious name. The orator muses over America s war efforts the way other poets might idolize a young fair maiden or exalt the wonders of the natural world, the speechmaker inquires, why talk of beauty, claiming, what could be more beautiful than these heroic happy dead who rushed like lions to the roaring slaughter. Cummings points out the absurdity of extreme patriotism and the dangers accompanying glorified militarism with a speaker who praises his nation s violent efforts with the romantic rhetoric of love poetry. In addition to the heightened romantic language of the love poem, occasionally sonneteers will also utilize capitalization to convey a specific emotion regarding the poem s subject. For example, in his popular 116th and 18th sonnets, respectively, Shakespeare plays with capitalization in several lines, including Love s not Time s fool and Nor shall Death brag. Capitalizing certain words that encompass great meaning or emotion as Shakespeare indicates with Time and Death aids poets in emphasizing the essential nature of said terms and their importance within the sonnet. The Bolshevik Economic Policy during the Civil War was significant for the Soviet Union as it helped to win the war and was the first implementation of Communist ideology anywhere. In addition, it affected many people, led to the Tambov Revolt and the Kronstadt Mutiny and had long term political consequences. The Bolsheviks aim was to dismantle the outdated structure of Tsarist regime and create a new economic system beneficial to all by introducing first Trotsky s War Communism and subsequently the New Economic Policy [NEP]. As historians we measure significance by the consequences of an event. Therefore, this essay will argue that the Bolshevik Economic Policy s main significance was that it represented a major turning point in the running of the country, that the introduction of War Communism led to success in the Civil War, and that its subsequent failure led to the NEP with its own consequences for the Soviet Union. War Communism, the measures introduced to gear the economy for the war effort and the first part of the Bolshevik Economic Policy, represented a turning point for the Soviet Union because it helped the Red Army to win the Civil War; in addition it was the first implementation of Communism anywhere, therefore this was the most significant effect. Water is an essential element for the survival of the human body. At least 20% of water necessary each day is consumed through the foods you eat, with direct consumption of water the most effective and beneficial method of rehydration. Each day, water is lost through the process of urination, respiration and perspiration, and in order for these bodily functions to occur water must be continually replaced through our daily diet. When water is not consumed individuals are at risk of dehydration, which can negatively impact the human body. These symptoms include thirst, headaches, dry skin, fatigue, join and muscle pain. You ll want to use either a 1 minute or a 5 minute chart, and keep your trades between 10 and 30 minute expiry times. (I generally use 5 minute charts when I trade) When you are planning your trades and trying to determine an entry, look at your asset s price structure. You should be able to identify the trend direction (up or down) of your asset. I would suggest at least $500 or more otherwise the Martingale strategy could be rendered useless. If you have to employ the Martingale too many times too early, and you haven t grown your account or deposited the perfect amount ($500 $2000), you run the risk of draining your account before you finally hit that winning trade. For the play Blood Wedding , the black box gave it sufficient space and room to make itself best, because the space of the stage is versatile and easy to change. In costumes, the play arranged no masks for the main characters, through which the play emphasized the characters so that the audience can follow the emotion of the characters very well, and can understand the the story theme better. • 25. Sonnet Billy Collins For today s analysis, I chose the poem Sonnet by Billy Collins. The author begins by stating all we need is fourteen lines causing the reader to believe the poem is, in fact, a sonnet ( Sonnet 1). After reading through, however, the conclusion can be made that the author does not follow many of the various rules associated with writing a sonnet. For instance, the rhyme scheme of this poem is not that of a sonnet at all. Normally, a Petrarchan sonnet would follow an a b b a, a b b a, and so on; however, the author instead strays from the expected and has very little, if any, rhyming throughout the entire piece. The only time any rhyme is seen is for the few slant rhymes the author includes and even those do not contribute to making it a true sonnet. Another missing aspect of sonnet writing is iambic pentameter. All of the lines, except the last, do not meet the guidelines of ten syllables, but why? Since this is the ending of the poem and the speaker mentions to blowout the candle maybe they are giving up on their rant ( Sonnet 14). Or it possibly could be to differentiate from the rest of the poem and actually create a suitable line. • 26. Protecting Floodplains by Aaron Dante Mamiit Protecting Floodplains by Aaron Dante Mamiit Flooding is a constant issue faced by Metro Manila. Although there are times when flooding is merely an inconvenient and annoying event, there are also times when it develops into something much more frightening and dangerous. But why is Metro Manila so badly plagued by floods anyway? One of the reasons why Metro Manila constantly battles with the flood problem is because a large part of it is situated on a floodplain. What are floodplains? Floodplains are landscapes that are formed when running water, often in streams and rivers, transports eroded rock and other similar materials from their banks to a lower part of the Earth s surface. At these lower parts, the flow of water slows down, and the rock and materials that the water is carrying are dropped. This leads to the creation of deposital landforms. One of these landforms is the floodplain. Floodplains are nearly flat, hence the plains part of their name. The flood part, on the other hand, should be pretty obvious these floodplains are subject to periodic flooding. What happens on floodplains? Flooding occurs when water overflows from a stream or river. When the water levels become too high, the water flows out of the stream channel and over the stream banks, submerging the adjacent floodplain. As water overflows, the material it carries sediments such as sand, gravel, clay, and silt are deposited on the floodplain. The larger particles are deposited first, closer ... People fight for power, and a steady government means usually means more prosperous times. When bad times come, power levels may increase, overthrows are enacted, and sometimes the system itself changes. Societies often go about this differently, and patters may be hard to find. However, one thing that history seems to show is that rich people dominant the government. Social classes have always been a part of society, and those who already have more money, education, and resources tend to be the one s ruling over those who have less. Most people who rule are given extra resources and valuable because they rule. But the pattern that is seen throughout history shows people who already had much, getting power, instead of an average person getting to power, then becoming rich. Ancient Egyptwas a society centered on the NileRiver. It was geographically advantageous because the Nile allowed for food surplus and protection from invaders. The government was dynastic succession with a Pharaoh as the leader. Egypt is a good example of rich dominance in the government because no forms of regular people having a voice are seen. Since an event in 1977 in which an outbreak of the infection occurred within the United Kingdom and Ireland among Thoroughbred breeding populations, Taylorella equigenitalis has remained an issue within the horse breeding community (Timoney, 1996). In 1978, the microbe entered the United States in Kentucky and had a major economic effect on the state. Missouri and Wisconsin experienced similar reverberations from equine metritis; all three states immediately looked to eradicate this disease from the United States. The eradication was handled correctly, and the United States became a contagious equine metritis free country. The horse breeding industry, as a whole, was not overwhelmingly affected by the disease. However, in 2008, a stallion in Kentucky tested positive for equine metritis which led to a probe into the industry unveiling twenty three carrier stallions and five carrier mares belonging to eleven breeds and located in eight states. Oddly, there were no reported clinical symptoms or reduction in pregnancy rates in these infected animals. Nonetheless, the costs associated with the examinations into the horse breeding industry were and are substantial. The main responsibility of regaining the United States status as contagious equine metritis free lies on the backs of those involved in the horse breeding industry. Proper prevention methods as aforementioned must be accomplished at any and all costs to ensure an industry crippling outbreak of this disease will not occur again (Timoney, 2011). Having endured the period where fascism and authoritarianism as a whole was at its strongest throughout the world, it is unsurprising that he considered its menace the primary problem facing the world. Through his essay, Politics and the English Language, he attempts to express his worry that the transformation of the way in which English is used will have a direct impact on the minds of the general public. Despite the passage of time since this piece was written, his argument certainly has a number of strong points which one can clearly see in the modern era, yet it is not without its flaws. When considering modern events, it appears more likely that it is not precisely the use of the English language which is the main problem facing political debate today, but rather the ideas which permeate society. When one considers, as Orwell describes it, instances of defending the indefensible , such as the decision to invade Iraq without sufficient justification, was it actually the language utilized by the administration that convinced people, or mere attitudes which permeated society which were already biased against Arab people in general? More often than when older people drive, such situation turn into disasters.
