Patrice Lumumba Essay
More than Words
Since the late 1800 s, almost all of Africa had been under European colonial rule, but this changed
drastically in 1960. Sixteen African nations gained their independence that year, including the former
Belgian Congo, which became the Democratic Republic of the Congo on June 30. One of the key
personalities that made this possible was Patrice Lumumba, who experienced widespread support in
gaining independence and became the first Prime Minister of the DROC. However, he lost much of
this support once he was in office, and lasted fewer than 200 days. Lumumba s ability to communicate
was a key reason for his success and failure.
Patrice Lumumba was born in the Kasai Province of the Belgian Congo on July 2, 1925 as a ... Show

In July of 1956, Lumumba was sentenced to two years imprisonment for embezzling $2,520 from the
post office for the Association des Evolués. After the Association returned the money, Lumumba s
sentence was reduced to 12 months, which began his career as a prisoner, leaving and re entering the
prison system for the next five years. During his 1956 1957 imprisonment, Lumumba wrote Congo,
My Congo, 200 pages to make a contribution towards the search for a solution for the present and
future problems of the Congo (Lumumba 7). Because this book was not published until after
Lumumba s death, it did not have an impact on the independence movement, but the views Lumumba
wrote about certainly did.
In Congo, My Country, Lumumba explains that one of the main reasons Europeans should not have
control of the Congolese is that the Europeans do not understand the African way. Lumumba attributes
this to the instinctive mistrust of the Congolese for the white man (Lumumba 8). Baldwin writes about
similar problems in the United States, on an entirely different continent under different circumstances.
In Notes of a Native Son, Baldwin writes about his father s mistrust for white people, which he at first
ignores, but later understands after a first hand encounter in New Jersey. While Baldwin s personal
experience was in a restaurant, his father s warning came from years of unfair treatment and,
undoubtedly,

Lesson Plan For A Small Group Of Three First Grade,...
LESSON PLAN
CONTEXT
This lesson is designed for a small group of three first grade, classified English language learning
(ELL) students. The students are ages six through eight years old and are in a first grade classroom.
They spend 90% of their time in the regular classroom, and the other 10% outside of the classroom
receiving instruction from the ESOL teacher. All three of these students are female, two of which are
Latino and the other of Arabic descent. Only one of the Latino girls was born outside of the United
States, and the other two students were U.S. born. They attend Andrew Jackson Elementary School in
South Philadelphia. The two Latino students have gone to Jackson from the time they were in
Kindergarten, while the Arabic student entered Jackson this year after the school year had already
begun. All three of these children are below grade level in all content areas, especially literacy. In
terms of this lesson, math is the content area being addressed. The concepts of less than, greater than,
and equal to will be taught. Prior to this lesson, the students have learned how to count and label their
numbers 0 through 100. They have worked briefly with $#$#1$#$# lines and understand the
cardinality of numbers.
DESIRED RESULTS
In this lesson, I am trying to accomplish teaching the students the key concepts of less than, greater
than, and equal to. I want them to understand that each number holds its own value and that a specific
number may hold

Gas Prices Persuasive Speech
Have you ever woken up late for something important, rushed to shower, swiftly brushed your teeth,
hastily gotten dressed, and when you finally make your way to your car its out of gas? Then you
quickly, but still abiding by the speed limit, drive to the gas station, grab some money out of your
wallet, look up at the big, bold prices and then glance back at the money you grabbed and either you
re overcome with joy or you grumble to yourself angrily and grab a few more dollars. Despite the real
life anecdote described above, a lot of people don t understand why and how gas prices rise and fall.
There s an increase in attention to gas prices when they re higher or lower than usual because that
directly concerns them as a consumer. Even when gas prices are higher, consumers keep paying
because there s not really an alternative out there besides buying a new environmentally friendly car.
However, there s currently a much deeper problem in the United States related to gas prices. Today, in
particular, gas prices are a lot less than they have been but most Americans brush it off and wonder
something along the lines of Who is that bad for? . I mean, fuels costs eat up a large share of earnings

States with a high reliance on the energy industry, like Alaska, North Dakota, Texas, Oklahoma and
Louisiana, are currently facing economic challenges. In terms of Texas in general, our economy rests a
lot on the oil producing industry and this has forced many companies to make tough decisions like
cutting back on new hires and in some cases even laying off workers. Even though the Texas economy
has a lot more going for it than just oil, especially because of the job growth in technology, health care
and construction, there s still risk ahead for Texas in terms of job growth, less production, less

The Importance Of Imperialism In Shakespeare s The Tempest
When a person takes a ball of red play doh and smashes it together with a second ball of blue play do,
it creates purple. Can the two colors ever go back to their original state of being just red, and just
blue? When two colors are mixed, the action can never be undone, therefore, they can never return to
the natural and pure versions of themselves that they once were . Due to imperialism, when you
emerge one culture with another for even a small period of time, the original residents are permanently
permeated with the new culture, an action that can never be reversed. In a sense, once a pure and
natural civilization is infused with another lifestyle, the effects, no matter how small, will leave the
native civilization changed. Montaigne deduces that there is a natural untouched form of nature and a
new nature, that is essentially impure. Impure in the sense that society has fallen out of step with the
natural way of life, to create their own rules, and own way of living. Shakespeare agrees with
Montaigne when it comes to imperialism and ruining the pure state of innocence, and his agreement is
shown through his play, The Tempest.
The Renaissance philosopher, Montaigne, insists through his essay, Of Cannibals , that society today
has corrupted mother nature, and taken away her purity by turning away from the natural order to
make their own set of rules, and execute their own way of living. Civilizations were once born through
nature, thus they lived by nature. In the

Qualitative Research and Data Analysis
2.1.6 Data analysis
In qualitative research, data analysis is a process of making meaning where the researcher has to
actively create meaning out of the raw materials (Esterberg, Kristin G., 2002). The process of making
meaning out of qualitative data is often iterative, meaning that there is a repetitive interplay between
the collection and analysis of data (Bryman and Bell, 2007).
Altogether 5 interviews were conducted with the tour operators in Denmark that are selling travel
packages to Nepal. Firstly, interview was conducted with Kipling travels (31ST March, 2014) and
then interviews were made with Dagama travels (2nd April, 2014), FDM travels (2nd April, 2014),
Albatros travels (24th April, 2014) and lastly C C travels (29th April, 2014). All of the interviews were
conducted on different days except interviews with Dagama travels and FDM travels. The findings
from the first interview were also used to ask questions in the following interviews and there was
constant interplay between the data analysis of the previous interview and the data collection from the
next interview. In this way, information gained from the first interview and the subsequent interviews
were used, to ask questions, in the interviews done later on. Figure 7: Comparison of Qualitative
Analysis Approaches (Thomas, 2006)

PROBLEM STATEMENT Various eye problems have been associated with overexposure to sunlight.
CAUSE
Ultraviolet Ray
WHY? People are unaware of what UVR can cause to their vision/eye sight.
WHY? Insufficient spread of information to the public.
Sub Problem
How can we completely inform the public about the dangers caused by the UVR?
INTRODUCTION
Another radiation from the sun can harm not only your skin but also your eyes. Extended exposure to
the sun s UV rays has been linked to eye damage, which includes the cataract that clouds the eye s
natural lens that can cause to temporary vision loss.

A study of a United States population found that individuals who had high levels of sun exposure were
about 1.5 times more likely to develop cortical or posterior subcapsular cataracts than those who had
low sun exposure, while those with moderate sun exposure were about 1.2 times more likely to
develop each of these types of cataracts. * Pterygium: Pterygium is characterised by a fleshy growth
on the eye s surface. The WHO estimates that 4070% of the global burden from this disease is
attributable to sun exposure. A study conducted in Victoria reported that 43.6% of pterygium cases
were attributable to sun exposure. * Age related macular degeneration: Based on laboratory studies
showing thatUV rays cause retinal damage in rats, scientists believe that exposure to UV rays
contributes to the degeneration of eyesight which occurs naturally with ageing.
How UVR Impacts the Eye
The various tissue layers of the eye absorb the wavebands of UVR to different extents. The longer the
wavelength, the deeper the penetration of ocular tissue. Of the radiation from sunlight, UV B has the
greatest impact on the eye. Overexposure can result in photokeratitis or, in rare cases, solar
maculopathy. Studies show that chronic exposure to UV B can also cause cortical cataracts. UV A is
considered a greater threat to produce skin cancer than damage the eye.
While the ozone layer filters UV C from the sun, a welder s arc can generate toxic dosages of this
potent waveband.

Newsies Play Analysis
My favorite musical we have watched in here is a tie between Newsies and Les Mis, but this about
Newsies. Newsies is a phenomenal Broadway production. Fun fact it was released as The News Boys
in the United Kingdom. It was produced by Walt Disney Pictures and directed by choreographer
Kenny Ortega. Newsies is based loosely on the New York City Newsboy Strike of 1899, and features
twelve original songs from composers Alan Menken and J.A.C Redford. The stars are Christian Bale,
David Moscow, Bill Pullman, Robert Duvall, and Ann Margret. Another fact is it was the first
completely live action musical Disney produced musical. It was nominated for eight Tony awards,

Value At Risk And Risk Management
Value at Risk Framework or VAR framework is mainly used for financial risk management or
financial mathematics in measuring the risk element on a definite portfolio of financial assets, present
in any economic organization. This particular portfolio comprises of time event and probability, which
states the threshold of the risk loss value over the period of time. These risk loss values are assumed to
be according to the market to market pricing, no trading and normal market which contributes in this
risk valued portfolio. The risk management of Value at Risk is done by risk managers which are
responsible for measuring and controlling the risk levels that are present in an organization.
Considering the modern portfolio theory, the third constituent of portfolio is amount of investment
which then creates a mean variance framework risk. This framework risk is defined in terms of
possible variation in the expected portfolio which will describe the risk value loss in financial assets of
an economic organization.
The Value at Risk framework and management help an organization in analyzing the risk loss in the
financial resources, which increase its use in many businesses, organizations and institutions. (Hassan,
2009) The organization use this VAR framework in analyzing the potential losses in many risk
management ideas which include stress testing, backtesting, expected shortfall, tail conditional
expectation and economic capital. These are the few important ideas that have been

Differences Between Western Animation And European Animation
Difference between Western European Animation and Eastern European Animation
By: Nurfarain Binti Sabarudin
Animation has been part of the world for a very long time. Use of animation is becoming more
popular each day. Animation can be used for different purpose such as advertisement and education
but it s mainly use for entertainment. Lot of short story and film has been created using animation.
Most successful animation company usually comes from United State. For example Pixar which has
produce some of the most box office films which include WALL E, Toy Story and Inside Out.
Animation company from Japan also not left behind in producing high quality animation and
becoming more popular nowadays.
Other than United Stated and Japan, Europe also produces several good quality animations. Because
of the Iron Curtain was form in World War II, Europe has separate into two areas. The two areas are
Western Europe and Eastern Europe. The Western Europe consist country from France, Germany,
Italy, Spain and United Kingdom. Eastern Europe consist country from Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia,
Poland, and Soviet Russia. The separation of European continent also affected on animation industry.

Crime And The Crimes Of Crime Essay
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (2006) crime is defined as an offence punishable by
the State on behalf of the general public whose standards do not permit the offending behaviour.
Whilst countless studies have been conducted over the years surrounding crime and the committing of
crimes by individuals , there has also long been debate surrounding whether or not crime is gendered
and if so, to what extent. Over the decades a number of studies have been conducted in order to
answer this question, with significantly varying results uncovered. Whilst some studies, including
those by Darrell Steffensmeier and Emilie Allan (1996) and Jennifer Schwartz and Darrell
Steffensmeier (2008) have found that gender plays a significant role in the committing of crimes, other
studies including that of Kenneth Polk (1993) have found that the prevalence of gender differences in
crimes is reliant on the nature of the crime itself.
According to Frances Heidensohn (1985), gender appears to be the single most crucial variable
associated with criminality (p.22). In agreement with this statement, Steffensmeier and Allan (1996)
highlighted in Gender and Crime: Toward a gendered Theory of Female Offending , that worldwide
criminologists agree that the gender gap within offenders of crime is universal, in that men are always
more likely to commit a criminal act than women. However, Steffensmeier and Allan (1996) s
research also highlighted discrepancies between the opinions of

Audre Lorde s Essay On Intersectionality
Audre Lorde s essay on intersectionality highlights the point that there is not a single issue fight
because we do not live day to day with our single issue lives (Lorde, pg 654). Acknowledging that we
are beneath the dominant class is important to reconstruct the structural power. Intersectionality
requires power that fortifies how our differences come together on both an individual level an a
collective foundation. There are many issues we tend not to even look at because the women that it
affects usually have always been overlooked for the dominant groups oppressed world (Lorde, pg
656). I think intersectionality is a very important component in feminism because without it you re

Pierre later tells him Don t you feel more and more trapped? First you shaved your moustache, then

The babysitter responds with it s the law, you know. So God is protecting me. This response brings up
the concept that Muslim women are childlike needing to be saved. An intersectional translation of
islamophobic misogyny. I believe this scene particularly highlights the point that gender trumps
religious faith and ethnicity. Johnson Reagon says that a coalition is not a home and should not feel
comfortable (Reagon, pg 259). This film debunks the myth that all women share a common
experience simply by being a female. (Reagon, pg 360). However, when we see all women get

ism, etc. I believe Pierre standing up for a man in this scene shows that he was aware of the difference

Investigating the Relationship Between Superstious Belief...
In times of uncontrollability, there is evidence to suggest that individuals tend to invoke superstious
beliefs. Anecdotal evidence has also suggested that highly superstitious people believe that they have a
level of control over situations where they objectively have none. For example, some people have
lucky charms that they believe allow for a greater sense of perceived control of external factors.
Locus of control has often been used to explain the relationship of perceived control and superstious
belief and has been dichotomized as internal or external (Rotter, 1966). Whereas an internal locus of
control is inherent of the belief that all events are due to internal dispositions, an external locus of
control believes that events are a result of other people, or chance/luck. This concept is associated with
the Learned helplessness explanation (Abramson et al., 1978; Maier Seligman, 1976). What this
explanation proposes is that participant s attribute the uncontrollability of a situation to internal
dispositions i.e., they display an internal locus of control, and, by extension, denote failure as a result
of not having any control over the situation. Contrastingly, individuals who don t succumb to the
learned helplessness effect are those who place failure outside the realms of their own self. I.e., they
present an external locus of control. This has been validated by Dudley (1999), who found that
participants with a higher level of superstition demonstrated less of

The Importance Of Leadership In Macbeth
William Shakespeare is known world wide as one of the greatest English writers, although many
people still speculate Shakespeare s plays are just books that concedes of entertainment, drama,
horror, or etc. They also objectify that there is nothing to learn from Shakespeare s plays. But that
statement is false. In the play Macbeth it teaches the audience that leadership can be challenging. For
my first point, leadership can be challenging because you must be wary of everyone and not trust
anyone, even if they re allies. For my second point, there will always be someone in your way. For my
third and final point, appearances can be deceiving. These are my reasons on why leadership can be
challenging. Within my first point, leadership can be challenging because you must be wary of
everyone and not trust anyone, even if they re allies. Anyone can betray you in an instant, betrayal is
common and adequately betray you on purpose to eradicate you from your position as a leader.
Placing a lot of trust you built with someone could be dangerous, even the closest friends. Not
everyone is an ally, many would take you down to simply gain the ability of leadership you have. For
example, in the play Macbeth, Duncan and the thane of Cawdor. He was a gentleman on whom I built
an absolute trust (1. 2. L. 15 16) Duncan says. As well as Duncan and Macbeth. Where s the thane of
Cawdor? We coursed him at the heels, and had a purpose to be his purveyor: but he rides well, And his

Essay about Campaign Finance Reform
Campaign finance reform has a broad history in America. In particular, campaign finance has
developed extensively in the past forty years, as the courts have attempted to create federal elections
that best sustain the ideals of a representative democracy. In the most recent Supreme Court decision
concerning campaign finance, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the Court essentially
decided to treat corporations like individuals by allowing corporations to spend money on federal
elections through unlimited independent expenditures. In order to understand how the Supreme Court
justified this decision, however, the history of campaign finance in regards to individuals must be
examined. At the crux of these campaign finance laws ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, these laws are particularly important because they deal with discussion of public issues
and debate on the qualifications of candidates. This sort of speech allows citizens to make an informed
decision about which candidate they will elect. This is crucial to the operation of the government, for
those who are elected will shape the nation in a profound way. As legal scholar Alexander Meiklejohn
argued when explaining the necessity of protecting political speech, self governance can only exist
insofar as the voters acquire the intelligence, integrity, sensitivity, and generous devotion to the
general welfare that, in theory, casting a ballot is assumed to express. For these reasons, the ability to
spend money on elections is essential to the First Amendment, as it allows for the communication of
ideas and opinions that are crucial to democracy. The need to protect this first amendment right,
however, is balanced against the need to avoid corruption in federal elections. The Federal Election
Campaign Act of 1971 (FECA) attempted to revamp the structure of campaign finance, particularly
dealing with eliminate corrupt uses of campaign contributions. Money in the form of a contribution
can easily be seen as a bribe, or an attempt to influence a candidate in the contributor s favor. FECA

Traditional Ethical Treatment Of Employees
The focus of modern economics has placed an increased emphasis on how companies treat employees.
This emphasis has been especially notable in the Omaha metropolitan area as firms have taken to
utilizing reduction in force procedures in effort to reduce operating costs thereby increasing profits.
While reduction in force proceedings have a grave effect on local economies, there are other situations
where employee terminations are contemplated as means of discipline for noncompliant workers.
What is truly unfortunate is that employee termination is often an early consideration for both
economic hardships and employee disciplinary actions when other alternatives may be available. This
commentary is often driven by the stockholder theory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While these religions have differing faith based beliefs, all respect the need of human dignity which is
achieved, in part, through human work. To understand how each faith approaches the ethical treatment
of employees, there must first be an understanding of the secular approach to this topic.
SECULAR APPROACH TO EMPLOYEE TREATMENT AND ETHICS
The traditional approach to the ethical treatment of employees, including employee terminations, is
often considered from nonreligious viewpoints due to the wide array of opinions which may result
from considering faith. There are two primary sources of information when determining the ethical
ramifications of decisions impacting employees. The first is laws and regulations stemming from the
federal, state and other local governments. The second is the theories of firm management, which
includes stockholder theory and stakeholder theory. An examination of these sources is important as
each provides a baseline for determining whether a decision impacting employees is first legal and
second ethical. While it is important to note that not all laws and regulations may be deemed ethical,
the laws governing employment have been developed through careful consideration and evaluation in
an effort to mitigate any unethical nature present in their existence.

A: Acute rheumatic fever
The reason this is the answer is because acute rheumatic fever is a complication that can occur post
strep. In order to be diagnosed with rheumatic fever, a person must have a history of strep infection,
plus at least one of the major and 2 minor or two majors. The criteria is known as the Jones criteria.
The major symptoms are carditis, polyarthritis, chorea, erythema marginatum, and subcutaneous
nodules. The minor criteria include a fever, arthralgia, previous history of disease, acute phase

A Trend Oriented Power System Security
A TREND ORIENTED POWER SYSTEM SECURITY ANALYSIS METHOD BASED ON LOAD
PROFILE Power system security is an important aspect in the present generation. Power system
security must also be economical. We can t predict the fault at every time, so based on trend analysis
method on load profile in this paper we are going to see the various methods which help for the
protection of the power system. So we should carefully monitor the security. By these methods
discussed in the paper we are to form security indices which helps us to calculate the faults in
advance. With these methods when problem occurs in real time we will have the security indices to
respond faster to find out the solution for the problem and also we can protect in advance.
Introduction: Power system analysis is important part of power systems. According to the
mathematical model we can divide security analysis into two types 1. Static analysis 2. Dynamic
analysis Dynamic security analysis is more focused on the behavior subsequent to a contingency,
power system oscillatory modes, frequency instability. In this paper we are going to study about static
analysis. Now moving on to the trend analysis theory it is developed from stock and commodity
markets. This analysis is majorly successful in medical and mechanical fields, now it is widely used in
electrical systems. Trend analysis theory has its own applications in electrical field such as signal

Death Becomes Her Analysis

where two middle age women find an elixir that promises to grant eternal physically youth in order to

The receiver simultaneously measures the distance to a second satellite and creates a similar sphere for
the second satellite. The area where the two spheres intersect narrows the possible location of the
receiver to a circular area. Finally, the receiver measures the distance to a third satellite and cross
references third sphere with the first two spheres. The intersection of the third sphere with the first two
spheres then narrows the possible location of the receiver to two points. In order to locate the exact
position of the receiver on earth, the system employs one of two methods. The first method is for the
system to take a measurement to a fourth satellite, which is often done for other reasons described
later. The alternate method is to mathematically throw out one of the answers, which can often be
done since one point is located in space or is not otherwise plausible.
The question that naturally follows is how a receiver is able to make a distance measurement from its
position on earth to the satellites orbiting the earth. The basic physics theory used to determine
distance is the speed of the signal multiplied by the time it took to travel from the satellite to the
receiver. Since radio waves are used to communicate between the satellite and the receiver, the speed
of the transmission is known to be the speed of light or 186,000 miles per second. However, the

Rise Of Rome Research Paper
The Great Rise of Rome and Latin In the ancient Italian peninsula, numerous languages were spoken
in many different regions. The most influential, extending to modern times, is Latin. Latin was the
vernacular of the region of Latium; the same region that gave rise to the remarkable city of Rome.
Rome was perhaps the greatest empire to have taken shape in history, exerting an infinite amount of
influence in politics, medicine, civilization, military, and language. While Rome spread her borders,
Latin would soon become the lingua franca of the Mediterranean world and beyond. The war against
the vast Carthaginian Empire that enabled the Romans to rule the known world and establish their
long lasting influence will be examined.

They gave Hannibal a taste of his own medicine, per se. The Senate raised an army and sent them to
Carthaginian Spain, forcing Hannibal to retreat. Spain was lost to Carthage forever, and all
Carthaginian forces retreated back to North Africa. Rome, however, was still not satisfied. Ceterum
autem censen Carthaginem esse delendum! or Carthage will be destroyed! said Cato the Elder (Nardo
pg. 32). By this time, Carthage had largely lost all her influence in the Mediterranean, and was
reduced to North Africa, until the final Punic war, when the Romans took over North Africa. Carthage
held out against the Romans as a mere city for three more years. Finally, the Romans decisively
gathered one last force, and breached Carthage s city walls. What ensued was a horrific

Defining The Contemporary Labels Of China s Youth Consumers
1. Introduction
Youth consumers rising demands for contemporary labels are hard to miss. Nowadays, contemporary
labels receive a high level of attention when it comes to the Generation Y. As contemporary labels
consumers make very distinct purchase decision in this product domain that they differ from the
respective mass market consumers. They are subconsciously also forming a sort of consumer behavior
that was known in society as conspicuous consumption. By linking conspicuous consumption with
contemporary labels, this essay will investigate the relationship between the two elements and how did
it equate together in this marketing environment. Examples of contemporary labels that China s youth
consumers like to conduct conspicuous consumption includes brands like Alexander Wang that has
been successful in addressing the need for minimalism that references athleticism in its appearance
(Walker, 2011:178). The rationale behind formulating this essay is aimed to define the contemporary
labels and the concept of conspicuous consumption that is currently widespread and on going in China
after its modernization and the rise of the super rich . Furthermore, it will serve as an investigation to
the extent which purchasing contemporary labels represent a form of conspicuous consumption.
Consumers actively seeking products that differ from mainstream and companies regard this consumer
behavior as an opportunity beyond saturated mass market.

We will have two target customers:
1. The affluent that does not work, but is not inclined to do housework. To many a maid/house cleaner
is a symbol of wealth, and this idea symbolizes this group of customers.
2. The two income households whose opportunity costs are too great to spend time cleaning the house.
MMCS offers house cleaning to these targeted customers. House cleaning ranges from cleaning of
standard rooms such as kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, as well as more unusual jobs like small
disasters from children and pets. The first is the affluent where only one spouse works. Although the
other spouse is at home and has time to clean, he/she chooses not too. This spouse would rather
volunteer for a public interest organization, play tennis and golf, or just spend time how he/she
chooses to. They have no desire to clean the house day in an out. To them that is not enjoyable and
they have the money to pay someone to do that kind of work. This market has annual incomes over
$200,000 and lives in expensive homes. According to Money Magazines Plano has 150, 100 that fall
into this category, this group reliably uses cleaning services. The second segment of the market that

Andrew Carnegie And The Gospel Of Wealth
Andrew Carnegie (1835 1919) was a major American industrialist in the late 19th century and after
obtaining substantial wealth from his steel industry, became an advocate for giving back to the less
fortunate. Carnegie s desire to donate to those less fortunate came from past experiences, growing up
as an immigrant and working in a cotton factory young. He knew and understood the hardships that
people faced when not able to acquire the type of wealth he rose to earn. Through his long life this
atypical businessman advocated for many and dedicated the later years of his life to promoting the
general welfare of the world.
After having enough of the steel industry in which Carnegie built from the ground up, with little
training and knowledge in the field, other than his past experiences from working on the railroads and
investing in oil and iron companies, The Gospel of Wealth (1889) was written. At the time of booming
industry, few men had the opportunity to amass such vast fortunes such as Carnegie, and in writing
The Gospel of Wealth (1889), Carnegie wanted to inspire to those with money to donate and give back
to the less fortunate, and life with be better for everyone. He penned that greedy men who let their
money die with them are a disgrace, and that the wealthy have a sort of obligation to promote the
common welfare for the average American. Although Andrew Carnegie did not write any other essay,

If I Rarely Drive My Car and the Tread Is Good, My Tires Are Fine
If your tire rubber never aged from oxidation, that might be true. Oxygen in the air reacts with most

Eva Peron: The Woman, the Politician, the Saint The crowds outside the residency were astounding.
An amazing number of people had turned out to say a final good bye to their first lady, Eva Peron.
Never before in Argentine history had a death so affected the people. A large scale mourning of this
kind was something that had never before occurred. A two day general strike was called in every

Examples Of Romantic Narrative In Mass Media
Romantic Narratives in Mass Media: The Construction of Ideals
As Television sales increased in the 1940s, more homes in the United States included TVs as a
common accessory in the family room. Since then, televisions have become another tool for
socialization individuals use to try and make sense of the world around them (Riesman, Denny,
Glaser, 1950). Furthermore, the combination of romance and mass media produced narratives
continues to be a prominent form of entertainment where TV writers and producers construct a picture
of what love should look like.
The way romantic relationships develop and the expectations individuals have for courtships vary by
culture; therefore, this proposed study will focus solely on images of idealized romance through a
Western lens. In general, romantic relationships in Western societies are guided by personal choice,
passion, and the notion of love at first sight. As you watch television or popular movies in the United
States, you can see examples of this type of love embedded into our media. For instance, the CBS
show How I Met Your Mother based each episode on the main character, Ted Mosby s quest for love.
As the show moves through its eight seasons, the viewer sees Ted go from one unhappy relationship to
another until he meets his ideal partner and eventually finds true love. Many shows like this center
around the main character s journey for his or her soul mate. The media has created certain
expectations of an idealized

Charter Schools Vs. Magnet Schools
The traditional idea of schooling has evolved throughout the course of history. Our diverse world
commands alternative ways of organizing education. These alternative measures are designed to meet
the needs of students who may not have an opportunity to be successful within the traditional school
setting. Although, students are the primary constituents of education, they are not the sole culprits of
reform in education. The needs for alternative educational programs include aspects such as
population decline, economic issues, and the need for better learning experiences. Therefore,
alternative methods are designed to meet the needs of particular groups of students in various ways
that might be difficulty to meet in the traditional setting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Communities and educators are seeking programs like Charter and Magnet Schools, in place of the
traditional public school setting. Charter Schools allow teachers and a local school board to determine
decisions regarding education. Likewise, the teachers and the local school board are also held
accountable, in regards to student performance. In regards to magnet schools, students are given an
opportunity to learn through themes. Henceforth, these themes are usually centered on the talents of
the students. For example, a magnet school could be designed around performing arts. The School
Within A School is similar to the magnet school idea. Consequently, these alternative school programs
allow students to learn through their individual interests. However, there are other forms of alternative
programs. Multi Aged Classrooms is designed based on the layout of the school. In a Multi Aged
Classroom setting, students are not grouped according to their age, but are grouped based on
developmental stages. Therefore, all students are grouped in one classroom with numerous teachers.
The students receive one on one instruction. Therefore, the instructional process is delivered based on
the needs of a particular student. Another aspect of alternative programs deals with the economic and
the environment of the school. In a School/ Community Economic Development the primary focus is
on the local economy. The students work with municipal planners, research spending patterns, and
start up of student businesses. In the Community Based School, the school draws on the local
environment as a way to make abstract concepts and textbooks lessons more meaningful. Finally, the
last alterative program is the Year Round School idea. This approach is designed to keep students in
school longer durations of time with short breaks in between. Although the year round school can
vary, research has suggested that student

The Red Queen s character is seen as an antagonist, the opposing force to Alice s adventures. Upon
their first encounter in this story the queen explains the rules of her kingdom as like the rules of a

Alice having no real direction of where she is heading and meeting other strange characters along the

Taxation Is An Issue That Has Plagued The United States Essay
Taxation is an issue that has plagued the United States even prior to the founding of the
nation and the issue at hand is fair taxation. American Colonists were being taxed unfairly
without parliamentary representation, and now ordinary modern Americans are being taxed
unfairly without legal representation. There is a sector of the citizenry that hold the belief that the
progressive tax code, employed by the United States, and is fair as the wealthy pay a higher
marginal tax rate with the operative word being marginal. Typically, wealthy Americans have a
much lower effective tax rate as they have the financial means to employ shrewd accountants
and tax attorneys who find and leverage the many deductions buried within the language of the
70,000+ pages of our current tax code. These are a multitude of deductions of which average
citizens are unaware. A prime example of someone able to lower his or her effective rate of
taxation is the former governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney. According to CNN Money, Mitt
Romney made $21 million dollars in one year, but only paid an effective rate of fifteen percent,
which was far lower than the rate he should have paid. Our progressive tax system is one that is
littered with loopholes that allow for the wealthy to avoid paying their fair share of taxes. Again,
the loopholes require detective work by qualified attorneys and accountants as the federal tax
code spans 70,000+ of pages of archaic and convoluted text. Not even

Tiffany Co. s story begins in 1837 in New York City. Having an everlasting passion for the most

three year strategic plan (broadly defined plan aimed at creating a desired future) that balances

consumers, strong associations amongst the Tiffany CO. brand and product quality, product
exclusivity (luxury), the highest levels of customer service, captivating store design and product
display and responsible product sourcing practices) and a profit plan for the fiscal year, it can be rather
challenging; for instance, variants in product mix can positively affect gross margins in the short term
while negatively affecting brand image. Another reason is that increased staffing can positively affect
customer service while negatively affecting earnings (SEC). Strategy implementation is the activity
performed according to a plan in order to achieve an overall goal (Business Dictionary). According to

Reaching a unanimous vote, beyond a reasonable doubt, was a difficult task for the jurors represented
in the film, 12 Angry Men. All but one were convinced the boy on trial was guilty of first degree
murder based on eye witness testimony and circumstantial evidence. Uncomfortably hot and sweaty,
one intent on getting to a ball game, eleven of the twelve jurors had no intention to stop and think
about the life contingent on their verdict. The entire story was motivated by the reasonable doubt,
communication competence, and persuasion of one man. Had they not discussed the evidence in

The diversity issues explored in the film are most discernable in Jurors #3, #5, and #10. Juror #3
constantly explodes with bottled up anger, blinding him to the facts. Juror #5 shares his upbringing in
a slum, identifying with the boy s struggle growing up in an underprivileged area in an abusive family.
Juror # 10 is an unreasonable bigot whose prejudice ultimately demonstrates his lack of credibility.
Even Juror #4, who was one of the last to concede, told Juror #10, now sit down and don t open your
mouth again (Lumet, 1975). Eventually the biases among the group were overcome, as they made no
contribution to determining innocence or guilt. The jury did achieve their goal to reach a unanimous
decision, but it was not the original goal of each juror. There were clearly mixed feelings regarding the
conclusion of their deliberation, including self awareness, reflection, and relief. A swift and
undiscussed decision concerning the fate of the boy s life was an inappropriate approach for the jury.
In the end, all of the jurors were satisfied with the verdict of not guilty, but for very different reasons.

Tax Reform In America
Taxes are essential for they enable the economy to function more properly. Taxes are useful for
funding programs such as, public transportation, education, and health care services, however,
taxation on goods and other resources can negatively affect individuals whose socioeconomic status is
low. In my opinion, taxation has different effects on different areas of our economy, taxes do affect
American citizens as well as the economic policy by raising or lowering the amount of income the
government receives.
It is evident that a tax reform is necessary. The economic growth has been inactive for quite a few
years now, the workforce association has been down, wages are not moving and the U.S. tax laws are
more and more out of step. I think we need a tax reform because it is hurting American manufacturing.
America has great manufacturing workers and companies. That is why products that say Made in

  • 2. Patrice Lumumba Essay More than Words Since the late 1800 s, almost all of Africa had been under European colonial rule, but this changed drastically in 1960. Sixteen African nations gained their independence that year, including the former Belgian Congo, which became the Democratic Republic of the Congo on June 30. One of the key personalities that made this possible was Patrice Lumumba, who experienced widespread support in gaining independence and became the first Prime Minister of the DROC. However, he lost much of this support once he was in office, and lasted fewer than 200 days. Lumumba s ability to communicate was a key reason for his success and failure. Patrice Lumumba was born in the Kasai Province of the Belgian Congo on July 2, 1925 as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In July of 1956, Lumumba was sentenced to two years imprisonment for embezzling $2,520 from the post office for the Association des Evolués. After the Association returned the money, Lumumba s sentence was reduced to 12 months, which began his career as a prisoner, leaving and re entering the prison system for the next five years. During his 1956 1957 imprisonment, Lumumba wrote Congo, My Congo, 200 pages to make a contribution towards the search for a solution for the present and future problems of the Congo (Lumumba 7). Because this book was not published until after Lumumba s death, it did not have an impact on the independence movement, but the views Lumumba wrote about certainly did. In Congo, My Country, Lumumba explains that one of the main reasons Europeans should not have control of the Congolese is that the Europeans do not understand the African way. Lumumba attributes this to the instinctive mistrust of the Congolese for the white man (Lumumba 8). Baldwin writes about similar problems in the United States, on an entirely different continent under different circumstances. In Notes of a Native Son, Baldwin writes about his father s mistrust for white people, which he at first ignores, but later understands after a first hand encounter in New Jersey. While Baldwin s personal experience was in a restaurant, his father s warning came from years of unfair treatment and, undoubtedly, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Lesson Plan For A Small Group Of Three First Grade,... LESSON PLAN CONTEXT This lesson is designed for a small group of three first grade, classified English language learning (ELL) students. The students are ages six through eight years old and are in a first grade classroom. They spend 90% of their time in the regular classroom, and the other 10% outside of the classroom receiving instruction from the ESOL teacher. All three of these students are female, two of which are Latino and the other of Arabic descent. Only one of the Latino girls was born outside of the United States, and the other two students were U.S. born. They attend Andrew Jackson Elementary School in South Philadelphia. The two Latino students have gone to Jackson from the time they were in Kindergarten, while the Arabic student entered Jackson this year after the school year had already begun. All three of these children are below grade level in all content areas, especially literacy. In terms of this lesson, math is the content area being addressed. The concepts of less than, greater than, and equal to will be taught. Prior to this lesson, the students have learned how to count and label their numbers 0 through 100. They have worked briefly with $#$#1$#$# lines and understand the cardinality of numbers. DESIRED RESULTS In this lesson, I am trying to accomplish teaching the students the key concepts of less than, greater than, and equal to. I want them to understand that each number holds its own value and that a specific number may hold ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Gas Prices Persuasive Speech Have you ever woken up late for something important, rushed to shower, swiftly brushed your teeth, hastily gotten dressed, and when you finally make your way to your car its out of gas? Then you quickly, but still abiding by the speed limit, drive to the gas station, grab some money out of your wallet, look up at the big, bold prices and then glance back at the money you grabbed and either you re overcome with joy or you grumble to yourself angrily and grab a few more dollars. Despite the real life anecdote described above, a lot of people don t understand why and how gas prices rise and fall. There s an increase in attention to gas prices when they re higher or lower than usual because that directly concerns them as a consumer. Even when gas prices are higher, consumers keep paying because there s not really an alternative out there besides buying a new environmentally friendly car. However, there s currently a much deeper problem in the United States related to gas prices. Today, in particular, gas prices are a lot less than they have been but most Americans brush it off and wonder something along the lines of Who is that bad for? . I mean, fuels costs eat up a large share of earnings in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. The Importance Of Imperialism In Shakespeare s The Tempest When a person takes a ball of red play doh and smashes it together with a second ball of blue play do, it creates purple. Can the two colors ever go back to their original state of being just red, and just blue? When two colors are mixed, the action can never be undone, therefore, they can never return to the natural and pure versions of themselves that they once were . Due to imperialism, when you emerge one culture with another for even a small period of time, the original residents are permanently permeated with the new culture, an action that can never be reversed. In a sense, once a pure and natural civilization is infused with another lifestyle, the effects, no matter how small, will leave the native civilization changed. Montaigne deduces that there is a natural untouched form of nature and a new nature, that is essentially impure. Impure in the sense that society has fallen out of step with the natural way of life, to create their own rules, and own way of living. Shakespeare agrees with Montaigne when it comes to imperialism and ruining the pure state of innocence, and his agreement is shown through his play, The Tempest. The Renaissance philosopher, Montaigne, insists through his essay, Of Cannibals , that society today has corrupted mother nature, and taken away her purity by turning away from the natural order to make their own set of rules, and execute their own way of living. Civilizations were once born through nature, thus they lived by nature. In the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Qualitative Research and Data Analysis 2.1.6 Data analysis In qualitative research, data analysis is a process of making meaning where the researcher has to actively create meaning out of the raw materials (Esterberg, Kristin G., 2002). The process of making meaning out of qualitative data is often iterative, meaning that there is a repetitive interplay between the collection and analysis of data (Bryman and Bell, 2007). Altogether 5 interviews were conducted with the tour operators in Denmark that are selling travel packages to Nepal. Firstly, interview was conducted with Kipling travels (31ST March, 2014) and then interviews were made with Dagama travels (2nd April, 2014), FDM travels (2nd April, 2014), Albatros travels (24th April, 2014) and lastly C C travels (29th April, 2014). All of the interviews were conducted on different days except interviews with Dagama travels and FDM travels. The findings from the first interview were also used to ask questions in the following interviews and there was constant interplay between the data analysis of the previous interview and the data collection from the next interview. In this way, information gained from the first interview and the subsequent interviews were used, to ask questions, in the interviews done later on. Figure 7: Comparison of Qualitative Analysis Approaches (Thomas, 2006) There are various approaches that can be used to analyze qualitative data such as the general inductive approach, grounded theory approach, Discourse analysis and Phenomenology ... The WHO estimates that 4070% of the global burden from this disease is attributable to sun exposure. A study conducted in Victoria reported that 43.6% of pterygium cases were attributable to sun exposure. * Age related macular degeneration: Based on laboratory studies showing thatUV rays cause retinal damage in rats, scientists believe that exposure to UV rays contributes to the degeneration of eyesight which occurs naturally with ageing. How UVR Impacts the Eye The various tissue layers of the eye absorb the wavebands of UVR to different extents. The longer the wavelength, the deeper the penetration of ocular tissue. Of the radiation from sunlight, UV B has the greatest impact on the eye. Overexposure can result in photokeratitis or, in rare cases, solar maculopathy. Studies show that chronic exposure to UV B can also cause cortical cataracts. UV A is considered a greater threat to produce skin cancer than damage the eye.

Value At Risk And Risk Management Value at Risk Framework or VAR framework is mainly used for financial risk management or financial mathematics in measuring the risk element on a definite portfolio of financial assets, present in any economic organization. This particular portfolio comprises of time event and probability, which states the threshold of the risk loss value over the period of time. These risk loss values are assumed to be according to the market to market pricing, no trading and normal market which contributes in this risk valued portfolio. • 12. Crime And The Crimes Of Crime Essay According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (2006) crime is defined as an offence punishable by the State on behalf of the general public whose standards do not permit the offending behaviour. Whilst countless studies have been conducted over the years surrounding crime and the committing of crimes by individuals , there has also long been debate surrounding whether or not crime is gendered and if so, to what extent. Over the decades a number of studies have been conducted in order to answer this question, with significantly varying results uncovered. Whilst some studies, including those by Darrell Steffensmeier and Emilie Allan (1996) and Jennifer Schwartz and Darrell Steffensmeier (2008) have found that gender plays a significant role in the committing of crimes, other studies including that of Kenneth Polk (1993) have found that the prevalence of gender differences in crimes is reliant on the nature of the crime itself. According to Frances Heidensohn (1985), gender appears to be the single most crucial variable associated with criminality (p.22). In agreement with this statement, Steffensmeier and Allan (1996) highlighted in Gender and Crime: Toward a gendered Theory of Female Offending , that worldwide criminologists agree that the gender gap within offenders of crime is universal, in that men are always more likely to commit a criminal act than women. • 13. Audre Lorde s Essay On Intersectionality Audre Lorde s essay on intersectionality highlights the point that there is not a single issue fight because we do not live day to day with our single issue lives (Lorde, pg 654). Acknowledging that we are beneath the dominant class is important to reconstruct the structural power. Intersectionality requires power that fortifies how our differences come together on both an individual level an a collective foundation. There are many issues we tend not to even look at because the women that it affects usually have always been overlooked for the dominant groups oppressed world (Lorde, pg 656). I think intersectionality is a very important component in feminism because without it you re leaving out so many women that are voiceless and need the rights that feminism can ... An intersectional translation of islamophobic misogyny. I believe this scene particularly highlights the point that gender trumps religious faith and ethnicity. Johnson Reagon says that a coalition is not a home and should not feel comfortable (Reagon, pg 259). This film debunks the myth that all women share a common experience simply by being a female. (Reagon, pg 360). • 14. Investigating the Relationship Between Superstious Belief... In times of uncontrollability, there is evidence to suggest that individuals tend to invoke superstious beliefs. Anecdotal evidence has also suggested that highly superstitious people believe that they have a level of control over situations where they objectively have none. For example, some people have lucky charms that they believe allow for a greater sense of perceived control of external factors. Locus of control has often been used to explain the relationship of perceived control and superstious belief and has been dichotomized as internal or external (Rotter, 1966). Whereas an internal locus of control is inherent of the belief that all events are due to internal dispositions, an external locus of control believes that events are a result of other people, or chance/luck. This concept is associated with the Learned helplessness explanation (Abramson et al., 1978; Maier Seligman, 1976). What this explanation proposes is that participant s attribute the uncontrollability of a situation to internal dispositions i.e., they display an internal locus of control, and, by extension, denote failure as a result of not having any control over the situation. Contrastingly, individuals who don t succumb to the learned helplessness effect are those who place failure outside the realms of their own self. I.e., they present an external locus of control. This has been validated by Dudley (1999), who found that participants with a higher level of superstition demonstrated less of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Importance Of Leadership In Macbeth William Shakespeare is known world wide as one of the greatest English writers, although many people still speculate Shakespeare s plays are just books that concedes of entertainment, drama, horror, or etc. They also objectify that there is nothing to learn from Shakespeare s plays. But that statement is false. In the play Macbeth it teaches the audience that leadership can be challenging. For my first point, leadership can be challenging because you must be wary of everyone and not trust anyone, even if they re allies. For my second point, there will always be someone in your way. For my third and final point, appearances can be deceiving. These are my reasons on why leadership can be challenging. Within my first point, leadership can be challenging because you must be wary of everyone and not trust anyone, even if they re allies. Anyone can betray you in an instant, betrayal is common and adequately betray you on purpose to eradicate you from your position as a leader. Placing a lot of trust you built with someone could be dangerous, even the closest friends. Not everyone is an ally, many would take you down to simply gain the ability of leadership you have. • 16. Essay about Campaign Finance Reform Campaign finance reform has a broad history in America. In particular, campaign finance has developed extensively in the past forty years, as the courts have attempted to create federal elections that best sustain the ideals of a representative democracy. In the most recent Supreme Court decision concerning campaign finance, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, the Court essentially decided to treat corporations like individuals by allowing corporations to spend money on federal elections through unlimited independent expenditures. In order to understand how the Supreme Court justified this decision, however, the history of campaign finance in regards to individuals must be examined. This sort of speech allows citizens to make an informed decision about which candidate they will elect. This is crucial to the operation of the government, for those who are elected will shape the nation in a profound way. As legal scholar Alexander Meiklejohn argued when explaining the necessity of protecting political speech, self governance can only exist insofar as the voters acquire the intelligence, integrity, sensitivity, and generous devotion to the general welfare that, in theory, casting a ballot is assumed to express. For these reasons, the ability to spend money on elections is essential to the First Amendment, as it allows for the communication of ideas and opinions that are crucial to democracy. The need to protect this first amendment right, however, is balanced against the need to avoid corruption in federal elections. The Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 (FECA) attempted to revamp the structure of campaign finance, particularly dealing with eliminate corrupt uses of campaign contributions. The first is laws and regulations stemming from the federal, state and other local governments. The second is the theories of firm management, which includes stockholder theory and stakeholder theory. An examination of these sources is important as each provides a baseline for determining whether a decision impacting employees is first legal and second ethical. The receiver simultaneously measures the distance to a second satellite and creates a similar sphere for the second satellite. The area where the two spheres intersect narrows the possible location of the receiver to a circular area. Finally, the receiver measures the distance to a third satellite and cross references third sphere with the first two spheres. The intersection of the third sphere with the first two spheres then narrows the possible location of the receiver to two points. In order to locate the exact position of the receiver on earth, the system employs one of two methods. The first method is for the system to take a measurement to a fourth satellite, which is often done for other reasons described later. The alternate method is to mathematically throw out one of the answers, which can often be done since one point is located in space or is not otherwise plausible. The question that naturally follows is how a receiver is able to make a distance measurement from its position on earth to the satellites orbiting the earth. The basic physics theory used to determine distance is the speed of the signal multiplied by the time it took to travel from the satellite to the receiver. Since radio waves are used to communicate between the satellite and the receiver, the speed of the transmission is known to be the speed of light or 186,000 miles per second. Examples Of Romantic Narrative In Mass Media Romantic Narratives in Mass Media: The Construction of Ideals As Television sales increased in the 1940s, more homes in the United States included TVs as a common accessory in the family room. Since then, televisions have become another tool for socialization individuals use to try and make sense of the world around them (Riesman, Denny, Glaser, 1950). Taxation Is An Issue That Has Plagued The United States Essay Taxation is an issue that has plagued the United States even prior to the founding of the nation and the issue at hand is fair taxation. American Colonists were being taxed unfairly without parliamentary representation, and now ordinary modern Americans are being taxed unfairly without legal representation. There is a sector of the citizenry that hold the belief that the progressive tax code, employed by the United States, and is fair as the wealthy pay a higher marginal tax rate with the operative word being marginal. Typically, wealthy Americans have a much lower effective tax rate as they have the financial means to employ shrewd accountants and tax attorneys who find and leverage the many deductions buried within the language of the 70,000+ pages of our current tax code. These are a multitude of deductions of which average citizens are unaware. A prime example of someone able to lower his or her effective rate of taxation is the former governor of Massachusetts, Mitt Romney. According to CNN Money, Mitt Romney made $21 million dollars in one year, but only paid an effective rate of fifteen percent, which was far lower than the rate he should have paid. Our progressive tax system is one that is littered with loopholes that allow for the wealthy to avoid paying their fair share of taxes. Again, the loopholes require detective work by qualified attorneys and accountants as the federal tax code spans 70,000+ of pages of archaic and convoluted text. Not even ... • 38. Tiffany And Co. s Story Tiffany Co. s story begins in 1837 in New York City. Having an everlasting passion for the most beautiful diamonds in the world, founder Charles Lewis Tiffany arrived in New York with a vision of spectacular beauty that went on to redefine glamour and style around the world (Tiffany.com). With a three year strategic plan (broadly defined plan aimed at creating a desired future) that balances earnings with brand stewardship (refers to actions taken by management to maintain, in the minds of consumers, strong associations amongst the Tiffany CO. brand and product quality, product exclusivity (luxury), the highest levels of customer service, captivating store design and product display and responsible product sourcing practices) and a profit plan for the fiscal year, it can be rather challenging; for instance, variants in product mix can positively affect gross margins in the short term while negatively affecting brand image. Another reason is that increased staffing can positively affect customer service while negatively affecting earnings (SEC). Strategy implementation is the activity performed according to a plan in order to achieve an overall goal (Business Dictionary). According to the SEC filing, its key strategies are: To selectively expand its global distribution without compromising the value of the TIFFANY CO. trademark (the Brand ). To enhance customer awareness. To increase store productivity. To achieve improved operating margins. To maintain an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. 12 Angry Men Movie Analysis Twelve Angry Men Analysis BA 321 Reaching a unanimous vote, beyond a reasonable doubt, was a difficult task for the jurors represented in the film, 12 Angry Men. All but one were convinced the boy on trial was guilty of first degree murder based on eye witness testimony and circumstantial evidence. Uncomfortably hot and sweaty, one intent on getting to a ball game, eleven of the twelve jurors had no intention to stop and think about the life contingent on their verdict. The entire story was motivated by the reasonable doubt, communication competence, and persuasion of one man. Had they not discussed the evidence in further detail and investigated potential explanations, the boy would have been executed. The purpose of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The diversity issues explored in the film are most discernable in Jurors #3, #5, and #10. Juror #3 constantly explodes with bottled up anger, blinding him to the facts. Juror #5 shares his upbringing in a slum, identifying with the boy s struggle growing up in an underprivileged area in an abusive family. Juror # 10 is an unreasonable bigot whose prejudice ultimately demonstrates his lack of credibility. Even Juror #4, who was one of the last to concede, told Juror #10, now sit down and don t open your mouth again (Lumet, 1975). Eventually the biases among the group were overcome, as they made no contribution to determining innocence or guilt. The jury did achieve their goal to reach a unanimous decision, but it was not the original goal of each juror. There were clearly mixed feelings regarding the conclusion of their deliberation, including self awareness, reflection, and relief. A swift and undiscussed decision concerning the fate of the boy s life was an inappropriate approach for the jury. In the end, all of the jurors were satisfied with the verdict of not guilty, but for very different reasons. Reference: Lumet, S. (Director). (1957). 12 Angry Men [Motion ... • 41. Tax Reform In America Taxes are essential for they enable the economy to function more properly. Taxes are useful for funding programs such as, public transportation, education, and health care services, however, taxation on goods and other resources can negatively affect individuals whose socioeconomic status is low. In my opinion, taxation has different effects on different areas of our economy, taxes do affect American citizens as well as the economic policy by raising or lowering the amount of income the government receives. It is evident that a tax reform is necessary. The economic growth has been inactive for quite a few years now, the workforce association has been down, wages are not moving and the U.S. tax laws are more and more out of step. I think we need a tax reform because it is hurting American manufacturing. America has great manufacturing workers and companies. That is why products that say Made in America often set the global bench for its good quality, but at the same time, with the concern of today s tax laws, businesses are encouraged to make less money and instead move good paying .U.S. jobs away. ...
