Atmospheric Oxygen, Giant Paleozoic Insects and the...
Animal gigantism was prevalent during the Carboniferous period of the Paleozoic era. Gigantism in
flying insects occurred in abundance; however, arthropods, such as arthropleurids, also experienced
gigantism. Arthropleurids existed during the Paleozoic era and were the largest land dwelling
arthropods in the history of the Earth. 1m long millipedes are classified as arthropleurids. Amphibians
such as the terrestrial labyrinthodont amphibians also became gigantic during the Carboniferous
period. Large amphibians reached body lengths of up to 2m. However, these amphibians are limited
by respiration through the skin, which is known to restrict maximum body size. The wingspan of a
certain extinct dragon fly exceeded 70cm and the wingspan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Hyperoxia is used to test for diffusive limitations in respiratory pathways. If high levels of oxygen
does not increase the rate of oxygen use, then non diffusive, convective, or pertusive limits to aerobic
capacities are indicated. Studies of exercising humans show that high levels of oxygen do increase the
maxim rate of oxygen use. However, no exercising amphibians and reptiles have been studied.
Simulations of amphibian paleophysiology should also consider carbon dioxide interaction with
hyperoxia and hypooxia and its resulting effect on the evolution of vertebrate metabolism. Effects of
hyperoxia on the thermoregulation of vertebrates would be helpful. Various vertebrates have lower
body temperature under lower oxygen levels
Animal flight is particularly fascinating because of the metabolism energy needed to maintain flight is
high. Experiments with animal flight could produce a physiological extreme in regards oxygen uptake
and animal size. Studies of hummingbird hovering ability under low density and low oxygen levels
showed that flight performance was constrained by the amount of oxygen available. Hummingbirds
failed to maintain flight at oxygen levels of 11 14%, which equivalents to the amount of oxygen
present at an elevation of 4000 m. Studies of hummingbird flight in normal oxygen levels (20.9%) and
low density showed that physical and structural constraint, rather than chemical metabolism, limits
flight ability. The

HIV Treatment Adherence Essay
Treatment adherence is critical for HIV positive individuals, but many find it challenging to maintain.
Sarita D. Boyd (2011) conducted a review of currently recommended treatment guidelines for patients
managing HIV infection, including adherence obstacles and benefits.
According to Boyd, HIV treatment should consist of antiretroviral therapy and routine health
monitoring, but many patients often defer treatment and fail to report for monitoring appointments.
Reasons for this failure to adhere to the treatment plan vary depending on the individual patient, and
the situation may be further complicated by differing medical opinions and lack of resources and
opportunity for the patient.
Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is the current standard for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cost of these drugs is a major obstacle to treatment adherence because they are expensive,
averaging $22,000.00 to $32,000.00 annually for consistent treatment (Boyd, 2011). Several
government programs cover initial HIV screening costs but not life time care, so many patients only
take their medicines as their finances allow
(Boyd, 2011). This nonadherence leads to the development of drug resistance which increases
transmission potential and decreases treatment options (Boyd, 2011). Efavirenz is a fixed dose
ART combining tenofovir and emtricitabine (Boyd, 2011). It offers once daily dosing and is currently
the simplest and least expensive protocol available. Due to deferred treatment options, less pills, once
daily dosing, fewer side effects and improved drug potency, HIV patients are reporting increased
treatment adherence and better treatment success (Boyd, 2011). More efforts must be made to insure
treatment adherence throughout the entire life of the patient.
Another hindrance to early diagnosis and program adherence lies in the communication skills and
comfort levels of patient and physician. The article HIV prevention efforts mired in patient denial,
physician discomfort (2011) examines the attitudes of both patients

Social Darwinism In The Mayor Of Casterbridge
Upon returning from his voyage, renowned scientist Charles Darwin published his findings on his
theory of survival of the fittest . He claimed that the most powerful ascend higher on the scale of
survival, whereas the disadvantaged and weak remain at the bottom. A few decades later, this concept
was adapted to apply to social, economic and political issues a term which later was coined as Social
Darwinism. This phenomenon was the basis for the explanation of why certain individuals accumulate
success and triumph over others. The theories of Darwin s work can be applied in literature as well,
especially in The Mayor of Casterbridge. In this case, the strength of an individual was dependent on
their reputation and social rankings. This placed females at a disadvantage, due to the patriarchal
standards and oppression, as well as those who were morally unjust and disliked throughout the
community, such as Henchard. Once engulfed in the classification as unfit , demise and suffering is no
longer a force that can be controlled and evaded by human actions. In his novel, The Mayor of
Casterbridge, Thomas Hardy applies the theories of Social Darwinism to prove that suffering is
inevitable among the morally and socially weak and disliked through the recurring symbolism of
animals, the unpredictable weather, and Lucetta s demise. The inclusion of various animals in Hardy s
novel serve a deeper purpose than as livestock in the agrarian society of Casterbridge; they are
symbolic

Analysis Of Los Olvidados
With a great reputation for its historical significance, Los olvidados (1951), a film shot in Mexico
City, directed by Luis Buñuel, endorsed the defining point of his profession. Having studied the given
excerpt of the script from a scene of the film, this report will not only portray intriguing political,
historical and social aspects, but also the phonological, morphological and lexical aspects and how
they influence the given content. The geographical location of this film has also proven to be of
relevant influence. Buñuel succeeded to attract the wider world s interest into his work as it was his
intention to make everyone realise the truth. Ironically, Buñuel being a surrealist director, Los
olvidados was not a surreal film. It was the first film directly addressing not only the issues identified
with the Mexican society but also Mexican cinema itself. From here, the attributes of Mexican cinema
were perpetually replaced.
Content Analysis
Los olvidados is based around the unfortunate events of streetboys whom gradually commit
lawlessness and breach the law under the influence on Jaibo, their leader. The given excerpt of the
script takes place in the beginning of the film, set in the Mexican slums. It is understood that Jaibo has
escaped from reform school, spots the boys in the street and reveals his encounters of the inside to
them. Many themes are picked up upon throughout this scene, the most fundamental being: Child
poverty, crime, machismo and more.
Commencing one of the main noticeable themes is poverty, which can be seen towards the end of the
given excerpt of the script. Child poverty is presented where Jaibo asks for a cigarette, which Cacarizo
replies to with Ni cigarros, ni quinto, mano. (Pountain: 209). It is inferred that the boys have
essentially nothing which can be linked to the historical aspects of Mexico city may have influenced
Buñuel s work. Due to the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (1927) creating an economy based on
the political views of themselves and the more prestigious citizens of mexico, with only the rich
getting wealthier, leaving the rest unprivileged and poverty stricken. This also meant further widening

Greek Words For Love
Today, we use a powerful word love to invoke some of the most passionate and emotional feelings to
some of the simplest pleasures. But has the word love always been so broadly used? Today, love
according to Merriam Webster Dictionary is a feeling of strong or consent of affection , but far back in
time, there were many word used for love like, agape, phileo, and eros. To understand the full picture
of the word love one needs to fathom dissect its past. One of the Greek words for love is agape; this
meaning according to Dictonary.com is unselfish love of one person for another without sexual
implications; brotherly love or the love of God. In many religious texts people refer to their God in the

Analysis Of Jean Louis Comolli And Jean Narboni s ...
In Jean Louis Comolli and Jean Narboni s essay Cinema/Ideology/Criticism, they put forward the
central argument that film is a commercial product in the capitalist system and therefore also the
unconscious instrument of the dominant ideology which produces it. In opposition to the classic film
theory that applauds camera as an impartial device to reproduce reality, they argue that what the
camera reproduces is merely a refraction of the prevailing ideology. Therefore, the primary and
political task for filmmakers is to disrupt this replication of the world as self evident and the function
of film criticism is to identify and evaluate that politics. Comolli and Narboni then suggest seven
categories of films confronting ideology in different ways, among which the second category resists
the prevailing ideology on two levels. Films of this group not only overtly deal with political contents
in order to attack their ideological assimilation (Comolli and Narboni 483), but also achieve their goal
through breaking down the conventional way of depicting reality.
Palindromes (2004), directed by Todd Solondz, to a large degree corresponds to the category B
proposed by Comolli and Narboni. On the level of the signified, namely the film s content, this black
comedy directly tackles the heatedly debated social and political issues surrounding teen pregnancy
and abortion in the United States. When approaching this controversial subject, the film puts great
emphasis on revealing,

A Comparison of Dulce Et Decorum Est and Exposure Essay
A Comparison of Dulce Et Decorum Est and Exposure
Traditional war poetry gives the idea of patriotic idealism of war. This style of poetry implies that war
is patriotic and that people who fight for their country are honorable.
But many of the poets do not portray war as it really is, by glossing over the gory details with
attractive images. Many traditional war poems were written before the war to persuade and encourage
young boys to become loyal soldiers. Many of the soldiers were taught to believe that they were the
chosen few and they were delighted to take part. They even thanked God, Now, God be thanked, Who
had matched us with

As the war was developing the pressure to take part in conflict grew increasingly. After training ,
Owen was labeled a second lieutenant. All his romantic notions was destroyed by the reality of war,
water logged trenches, barbed wire, bombardments and machine guns. After a near death experience
Owen was transported to a hospital with concussion. But he still had the images of his many brothers
and conrades laying motionless around him. Owen didn t escape unharmed he was diagnosed with
shell shock. He was then posted to
Craiglockhart War Hospital for observation where he quickly came the editor of The Hydra , the
hospital magazine.
Whilst Owen was in the hospital, Siegfried Sassoon arrived.
Owen made a good impression on Sassoon and he recognized the potential in his poetry. Encouraged
by Sassoon, Owen wrote some of his finest, most angry and compassionate poems at that time. When
he left Craiglockhart he furthered his poetry career when he was introduced to the London literary
society. Although Owens future seemed promising Owen decided to leave this safe predictable home
and return to France to fight. He fought on the Beaurevoir fousomme line and was awarded the
military cross. But during his time in France he fell under machine fire.

Similarities Between Massachusetts Bay And Virginia
Through the development of Virginia and Massachusetts Bay a few similarities can be noted, however,
the development of these two colonies were vastly different. First off we can notice the similarities;
both Virginia and Massachusetts Bay were founded by investors that funded colonists from England
over to the New World. Both of these colonies were formed with a hope for profit and both of these
colonies followed a government that consisted of counties with sheriffs and governors. As far as
economically successful colonies go, Massachusetts Bay proved to be the more successful of the two.
Virginia had a more appropriate climate for the production and growth of a wider variety of crops but
tobacco was their highest produced crop. Massachusetts

My Favorite Vacation Spot
My Favorite Family Vacation Spot
As soon as I got of the plane and breathed in that City air I new my life would change for the better. I
was waiting for this day for the past several months. It was the first time I would go with my father
and brothers on their Boys Only Vacation . I was thrilled at the fact that they would finally let me tag
along with them. This year they decided to go to Washington D.C. I had never been to D.C before, and
what made it even better was the fact that around the time we would arrive it would be snowing. It
was my first time ever seeing snow with my naked eye. So when the time came we headed out to
Tampa International Airport. We checked our bags, went threw security and waiting in line before
entering the aircraft. It was about a 2 hour flight before we arrived in the place that now has my heart
till the day I die. As soon as we stepped out the Airport my eyes were widened by the site of seeing
snow for the first time. The snow felt as if it was made out of a snow cone machine. The sound of my
feet stomping in the snow like stepping on packing peanuts is the sound that I will listen to for hours.
After about a quarter of a mile walk we got to the subway station where for the first time I
experienced how busy big cities can be. We got our cards and headed downstairs to where the subway
trains were. The sound of a jazz musician playing Duke Ellington s Rhapsody in Blue made me want
to give the man all the money in my pocket but sadly I couldn t. There was also the smell of chili
cheese dogs that the people next to us were trying to scarf down before the train arrived. Finally it
arrived and this was my first time on a subway car. The feeling of my butt on the rough cushioned
chairs wasn t the best feeling in the world. The sight on many people from Jamaican to Irish was one
that I haven t seen in such a small compacted space. I could also see the sight of Jefferson Memorial
and the Potomac River as we passed them was breathtaking. We passed a few other sights such as the
Washington Monument, The Lincoln Memorial and the WW2 Memorial. As we walked off the train
we could hear the conductor giving everyone safety instructions and telling them to step away from
the doors.

Socrates s View On Plato s The And Aristophanes s The...
Elenchus, as a famous Socratic method for education, uses dialogue and questions to approach
philosophical truths. The method is presented in both Plato s the Euthyphro and Aristophanes s the
Clouds. However, Socrates s personal image and characteristics, as well as the nature of his
questioning differ a lot in these two works. While the Euthyphro presents a philosopher king guiding
the less wise people in discovery of truths, Socrates in the Clouds has little interest in either exploring
the ethical truth or helping others get out of Plato s cave . Instead, he is portrayed as a sophist who
corrupts people with mysterious and useless knowledge, ignores traditional Athenian education, and
debilitates Athenian men. Compared to Plato s focus on Socrates s wisdom reflected in the dialogue,
the Clouds is a distorted interpretation of Socrates s elenchus. Rather than justifiably criticizing
Socrates, Aristophanes depicts him from a common Athenian s perspective. It is this misunderstanding
of the value of Socrates s teaching by Athenian citizens that constitutes the failure of elenchus in both
the Clouds and the Euthyphro.
Socrates s image in the two works differ firstly in his attitude towards knowledge and towards himself.
A typical statement of Socrates, both in the Euthyphro and in other Plato s works, is that he has no
clear knowledge. He is different from the public because he knows that he does not know. Neither
does he claim to teach or corrupt the young (Euthyphro, p.2

Essay about High Stakes Testing
High Stakes Testing
In 1997, President Bill Clinton stated that the United States needed, a national crusade for education
standards not federal government standards, but national standards, representing what all our students
must know to succeed in the knowledge economy of the twenty first century
(http://books.nap.edu/books/0309062802/html/13.html). The way to succeed in this journey is through
standardized testing that results in consequences for teachers and students.
Throughout this paper, I will be discussing how important high stakes testing is to our country. First, I
will show how these tests prevent students from moving on to the next grade level or graduate without
the skills necessary. Secondly, I will discuss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Out of 91,000 students tested overall, almost 26,000 failed. After summer school, 15 percent, 13
percent, and 8 percent of students were retained at the three grade levels (Chicago Public Schools,
1998a)(http://books.nap.edu/books/0309062802/html/116.html).
High stakes testing also improves students achievement. Eugene Watts, Ohio s State Senator, discusses
a new exam that will be required for high school graduation starting in September of 2004. It is a
tribute to the process we have established that Ohio was one of only three states to receive a grade of
A by the Fordman Foundation in its appraisal of math standards in 1998. Ohio s model math standards
also have the highest rating by the American Federation of Teachers and a grade of B+ for the level of
rigor in a review of state standards in 1998 by the Council of Basic Education. Before proficiency
testing, Ohio schools were graduating students with second grade math skills and fourth grade reading
levels (http://www.enc.org/topics/ assessment/testing/document.shtm?input=FOC 001574 index). The
students of Ohio were given a challenge, and they not only lived up to the standards, they surpassed
them! This is the kind of attitude all students need to have towards school, and high stakes testing is
just the incentive they need. The AIMS test in Arizona will be required to graduate in the year 2008,
and the Arizona Department of Education feels that

Taking a Look at Morocco
Introduction
Morocco a country that in itself has a rich history that dates back to prehistoric times. An odd land
where you can sit in 80 degree temps and have palm trees surrounding you and look up to the
mountains tops covered in snow. Where so many have wondered in to discover a part of Africa rich in
abundance of unique culture and heritage. Where poets and story tellers have left with a story to tell of
a great land to which they have traveled. American Paul Bowles wrote many books set in Morocco,
arguably the best being The Spiders House, which is set in Fez. There were many famous authors from
Morocco itself which gave the outside world an insight to the country. Some famous Moroccans
authors include Leila Abouzeid, Barbara Parmenter who wrote the famous book, Year of the Elephant:
A Moroccan Woman s Journey Toward Independence. Challenging the way people treated woman and
thoughts of woman. Even though this book was fictional it encouraged a forward movement for the
rights of Moroccan woman, all by using the power of pen. It caught the attention and eye of many
westerners which lead to a revolution of woman s rights. First published in 1983, was the first novel
written by a Moroccan to sell out worldwide. Is it the beautiful Berber city of Ouarzazate, which

The Concept Of Jesus Being Fully Man
Introduction
The concept of Jesus being fully man but also fully God at the same time has been debated amongst
scholars, both Christians and non Christians alike for centuries. The doctrine and study surrounding
the person of Jesus is known as Christology, and after extensive and often hostile debates the Church
gave a concluding definition of its Christology in 451 CE at the Council of Chalcedon. It was stated
that they affirmed the belief in Jesus Christ as one Person in two natures, which are united without
confusion. The early church was adamant that the Incarnation was one of the most important truths of
the Christian faith.
Maurice Wiles, an Oxford patristic scholar summarised the Chalcedons s aims as follows:
On the other hand was the conviction that a saviour must be fully divine; on the other hand was the
conviction that what is not assumed is not healed. Or, to put the matter in other words, the source of
salvation must be God; the locus of salvation must be humanity. It is quite clear that these two
principles often pulled in opposite directions. The Council of Chalcedon was the church s attempt to
resolve, or perhaps rather to agree to live with, that tension. This essay will examine and critically
analyse this stance alongside answering the question of would it matter if Jesus were not fully God
and fully human? Five specific points will be looked at; Jesus is God, Jesus is man, Jesus is a sinless
man, Jesus will be fully God and man forever, and

Difference Between Civil Law And Criminal Law
What is the difference between criminal and civil law? What is a tort? What are three forms of product
liability cases that can be formed due to a manufacturer s negligence? And what is a warranty? These
are all important questions that are answered by having a basic knowledge of the law and regulations.
Let s take a look at each term and how our legal court system has defined them. First, criminal law is a
crime and considered a type of wrongdoing. It can be against an individual or to society as a whole
that is perceived as threatening, harmful, or otherwise an endangerment to a person s property, health,
safety, and/or moral welfare. We define these crimes as assault, battery, arson, rape, or fraud, just to
name a few. Therefore, if a person allegedly has committed a crime, a public official such as a district
attorney, will file a case against a defendant, whom is then required to appear in court. The defendant
then will need to appear before a judge or jury and based on the evidence presented a finding will be
either innocence or guilt. If a defendant in a criminal matter is found guilty, our society believes that a
defendant should serve a punishment for their wrong doings. Therefore, punishments for the wrong
doer are either fines, probation, imprisonment, or in some cases even death. Second, civil law is an
injury to a person or property in which a civil action begins when a party files a complaint. For
example, a civil matter could be a breach of

Irritable bowel syndromes also known as IBS is a common disorder that affects the large intestine.
IBS is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder that causes inflammation in the digestive tract (FACOEP, J.

constipation, and sometimes mucus in the stool (FACOEP, J. P. (n.d.)) IBS can occur at any age.

Essay about The Privacy of E-Mail
The Privacy of E Mail
Today the Internet is being used more and more frequently, and the question of e mail privacy is
becoming more and more of an issue in society. Many people today, both at work and at home, are
using e mail to keep in touch with their friends, family, and their co workers. Sometimes the
information that is contained in these messages is private and confidential, neither the sender nor the
receiver wish any one else to be privy to what is contained in these messages. What happens if that
very private piece of mail is intercepted and read by those whom it is not meant for? For some people
it might only be a slight problem, but for others it could cause some serious problems. It also brings up
the issue of who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would be very difficult to prove that someone intercepted a message that was not meant for them
and read it. Another problem that comes with this act is that it does not protect the person from having
their e mail read by an inside source . An inside source would include, their boss or another member of
the company that they are working for, so someone in that position could reasonably read their e mail
without having to worry about reprimands form the company. Courts have ruled that e mail sent via an
office system is only private if the sender has a reasonable expectation of privacy when they send it.
Again this can be pretty vague about what a persons reasonable expectation of privacy for their e mail
means. What reasonable expectation means for one person may be very different for another, creating
quite a problem in the company about what reasonable expectation is. Many companies now have
policies for their employee e mail that states that it is not a good idea for a person to send private e
mail through the companies system. It is also a know fact that if the company owns the system that the
e mail is being sent through then they have the right to inspect and to read what is being sent. If a
person wishes to avoid prying eyes they might wish to have an old fashioned face to face conversation
when discussing something that is private.
Some people today are

Analysis Of Wuthering Heights And Dracula
The Thrilling Expedition to the Art of Gothic
Novel in particular and literature in general is more than just a work of fiction but in fact the hidden
reflection of a specific historical era. Although, Frankenstein, Wuthering Heights and Dracula were
written in different times and each leaves its readers with different emotion and contemplation stages,
they all share an affinity: the presence of Gothic elements. Indeed, these novels are designed to lead
their reader into thrilling journeys through spooky dark setting, suspense horrifying plot, and
claustrophobic atmosphere. These elements, though appear in various forms throughout these three
novels, still excellently accomplish their mission of enticing the readers to be caught up in the
narrative.
The dark settings are usually depicted through the presence of old or abandoned buildings, castles,
dungeons, crypts, or even extreme landscapes. In Frankenstein, when working on his second being, his
laboratory is set on the remotest of the Orkneys in Scotland, the island which is described as nothing
more than a rock, whose high sides were continually beaten upon by the waves (Shelley 188).
Moreover, in addition to the isolation, this place is also in molder and abandoned situation, which
enhances the dreadfully dismal of the setting. Indeed, the author has built such a perfect birthplace for
the creation of a hideous being. The setting of Wuthering Heights, on the other hand, is based more on
the extreme of landscape and

Shakespeare s Life And Characters In Hamlet By William...
Throughout the years, humankind had find different ways to pass the time. One way to pass the time
for humans is writing. This is a form of expressing our inner feelings, helping others, or communicate
with one another. During the 1590 s, an author by the name of William Shakespeare began writing
plays to entertain not only himself, but his audiences as well. Like any other author, his plays came
from inspirations, more specifically, Hamlet. His life views can be seen in this play and influenced
how characters interacted with others or viewed life. Due to William Shakespeare s terrible
experiences with love, his characters in Hamlet and other works experience hardships with romantic
affairs. At the age of eighteen years old, in November 1582, Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway
who at the time was twenty six years old. Since his wife was expecting a child, they married rather
hastily also know as a shot gun wedding (Potter, 10). By 1585, Shakespeare had a total of three
children, which in turn did not help his finance issues. According to Scholar Lois Potter, Shakespeare
spent most of his time in London, where he made most of his works, which could have been a form of
birth control. During his time in London, it is thought that he had an affair with several women. He
wrote his works in London and even after he retired, he frequently visited London. Towards the end of
his retirement, Shakespeare s child, Susanna, married John Hall, who ended up having an affair with

Essay On Probiotics
If you use probiotics on a daily basis you ll benefit greatly; probiotics are used both to prevent health
problems and to treat disease. The most common probiotic bacteria strains seem to work well with
most people, no matter if you enjoy normal health or if you suffer from poor health. But one thing is
clear: The unhealthier your lifestyle is, the more you need probiotics. It s important to remember that
each person carries a unique gut microflora. It s like a unique fingerprint belonging only to one
person. This microflora needs to be kept in a delicate balance to work well. If you eat junk food,
processed foods, drink soda, or experience stress and tension daily, you can be sure it will affect your
gut it can easily get out of balance. The condition of your gut and intestine will affect the level of
health you enjoy. The specific makeup of the microflora in your gut and intestine is determined by
your genes, your eating and drinking habits, and other factors. Most studies made on probiotics show
that probiotics acts to balance your gut and combat the bad effects of modern, stressful living. And
probiotics does this without side effects. Probiotics has proven effective to prevent and treat diarrhea

Understanding The Conflict Resolution Strategy Essay
Healthy Conflict Resolution Strategy
Conflicts are an inevitable part of human life. Whether they happen in personal lives or within
organizations, it is human nature to be involved in conflicts. Workplace conflicts, such as the one in
the current situation with Dr. Jones and Susan, can result in negative consequences if they are not
handled adequately. Some of these consequences may include irreparable damage to the relationships
and disrupt teamwork, becoming an overall detriment to the organization. However, if the conflict is
managed properly it can bring the problems to light and motivates the conflicted individuals to work
together to find a solution that is agreed upon (Omisore Abiodun, 2014). Understanding the Conflict
The first step for a manager would be to understand the conflict at hand. To recap, Susan is fed up
with Dr. Jones because she believes he is constantly cutting corners in his position by leaving early,
coming in late, or not coming in at all. According to Omisore and Abiodun (2014), there are three
different classifications of conflicts: Relationship conflicts, task conflicts, and process conflicts. A
relationship conflict is when there is a dispute between individuals that may include clashing of
personalities or annoyance which can lead to feelings of frustration, mistrust, and even resentment.
Task conflicts happen when there are incompatibilities about the contents of tasks or work goals.
Process conflicts arise when there are disagreements

The Effects Of Aerobic Exercise On Pregnancy
Effects of Aerobic Exercise on Pregnancy Aerobic exercise is another fantastic type of physical
activity for pregnant women. It is a great alternative for mothers who are apprehensive about
resistance training. Aerobic exercise guidelines for mostly sedentary pregnant women state that they
should perform at about 60% 70% of their heart rate maximum, and guidelines for active pregnant
women suggest they perform at about 60% 90% of their heart rate maximum (11). The United States
guidelines supports exercise throughout the full nine months of pregnancy as a positive decision for
expecting mothers (2).
Just a handful of gains made while aerobically exercising during pregnancy include maintaining
weight, less complications with delivery, a shorter labor, a decrease in stress, less back pain, a
decrease in arterial stiffness, improved posture, increased self confidence, improved insulin sensitivity
and glycogen storing, better sleep, a decreased risk of preeclampsia, decreased pelvic girdle pain, and
an increased quality of life (6, 9, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 19, 23). It is also important to acknowledge that
mothers who exercised 3 months before they became pregnant experienced even more advantages
with a significant decrease in pregnancy discomforts (9). In two separate studies made up of 43 and 37
pregnant women, mothers participated in a moderate aerobic exercise program. In the first study
mothers were trained with general exercise machines, and in the second mothers performed

Decision Making On Black Carbon Mitigation
Decision Making on Black Carbon Mitigation
Introduction
There have been myriad of findings over the past couple of years suggesting that climate change may
be happening far faster than we originally anticipated. Climate change has the potential to trigger
abrupt transitions such as the release of carbon from thawing permafrost, ocean acidification, sea level
rise, and biodiversity loss. The world has warmed by about 1.5°F, and by 2100 it is projected to rise
another 2 to 11.5°F (Karl et al., 2009). Scientists conclude that greenhouse gases (GHG) from
anthropogenic sources are the most significant driver of observed climate change (IPCC 2013). GHG
have the property of absorbing the infrared radiation given off by the Earth and re emitting ... Show

BC has a short atmospheric residence time of days to weeks, while long‐lived GHGs can persist in the
atmosphere for centuries. Therefore, reductions in GHG emissions will take longer to influence
atmospheric concentrations and will have less impact on climate on a short timescale, whereas
reductions in current BC emissions are immediate (Bice et al., 2009). Apart from that, some scientists
(Shindell Faluvegi 2009, Ramanathan Feng 2009, Quinn et al. 2008, Jacobson 2010) attribute up to
50% of arctic ice melting to BC emissions, therefore its emissions reductions can substantially
decrease the rate at which arctic ice is melting. Thus, initiatives focused on lowering BC will help
offset the impact of decades of GHG emissions and give efforts to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2)
emissions time to get off the ground. It s worth mentioning that BC also has adverse effect on human
health, such as premature mortality, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, and development of
chronic respiratory disease, so targeting BC emissions will be beneficial from the public health
standpoint (EPA 2011).
Bringing black carbon into climate strategy offers a complementary route to act on climate change, but
the scientific understanding of black carbon climate effects isn t fully complete to support this
proposition. On the one hand, there s a group of scientists who conclude that BC is one of the most
important human emission in terms of its climate forcing in current atmosphere, as it

The Types Of Tectonic Plate Interactions
1. Using the diagram above, explain any 3 of the 6 types of tectonic plate interactions. Note: a larger
version of this diagram is located in the CONTENT section of this lesson. 1. Convergent Boundary of
two Oceanic Plates: When two oceanic plates collide, one of the plates is subducted under the other
during the collision. At the subduction zone, a deep trench is formed in the ocean floor. Oceanic and
oceanic plate convergence result in the formation of volcano chains. Over millions of years, the lava
and debris from the volcanic eruptions pile up on the ocean floor until the volcano rises above sea
level to form a volcanic island. These types of islands are usually formed as chains called island arcs
(which run parallel to the trench). 2. Convergent Boundary of an Oceanic and Continental Plate: When
an oceanic plate collides with a continental plate, the crust forming the oceanic plate gets bent and
pulled under the continental crust (which is because the rocks that the oceanic crust is comprised of
are thicker than the rocks that form the continental crust). The process where the oceanic crust is
pulled under the continental crust is called subduction and the zone at which this occurs at the plate
boundaries is called the subduction zone. It is at the subduction zone where the oceanic crust sinks
beneath the continental crust, forming a deep oceanic trench. As well, oceanic and continental plate
collisions can result in earthquakes, volcanoes and folded mountain

Using RFID Technology in the Transportation Sector
RFID or radio frequency identification is the name given to the technology that uses radio waves to
transmit data and uniquely identify an animal, person, or thing ( radio frequency identification, 2013).
An RFID system includes a transponder including an antenna and a chip that can easily store a
significant amount of data such as location details, manufacturer details and product numbers if any.
There are three basic types of the RFID readers. Fixed readers with an external antenna which are
often used at the entry points of the yards. Handheld readers are used by personnel moving through
the yards or the space. Then there are mobile readers which are set on the moving vehicles and
moving equipment for increasing accuracy and tracking the process ( Advantages of RFID in
Transportation and Logistics , 2011). In the current times, radio frequency identification technology
has upgraded from anonymity into applications that are rather used normally and as a consequence has
helped in the acceleration of manufactured materials handling (Want, 2006). There are several uses of
RFID in various sectors. However, this paper will only deal with its uses in the transportation sector
and how effectively this modern technology has helped in the growth of business and ease for people
all over the world. RFID technology has a number of applications in the domain of transportation

Teenage Birth And STD Rates
Teenage birth and STD rates have long been a problem in the United States. The United States has
some of the highest rates of teenage births and STDs in the industrialized world. Every hour in the
United States, 70 teenage girls become pregnant and 1100 teens are infected with an STD (Satcher,
Carmona Elders, 2015). According to Kearney and Levine (2012), a teenage girl in the United States
is two times more likely to give birth than a teenage girl in Canada, four times more likely to give
birth than a teenage girl in Germany or Norway, and ten times more likely to give birth than a teenage
girl in Switzerland (p. 141). Adolescents account for half of the United States new STD cases each

Current programs have been successful in lowering the teenage birth rates from their 1991 rates to
their current rates, a difference of more than 50 percent. While the STD rates in the United States have
not improved, they have ceased to increase in recent years (Satcher, Carmona Elders, 2015). Sexual
education programs differ in what information the program covers, who teaches the class, and how
relevant the material is to a diverse student body. In order for a sexual education program to be
successful in reducing teenage pregnancy and STD rates, the United States needs to ensure that
schools are offering comprehensive sexual education classes that incorporate information on
contraceptives and condom usage, are facilitated by both trained and qualified teachers and health
professionals, and are tailored to a diverse student

This idea of risk has warlike connotations, a theme which is echoed throughout the article. For
example, in the first paragraph, Amelia Gentleman reports that the girls choice of clothing could result
in conflict with the law , and could seriously damage their academic future . The noun conflict and
forceful verb damage emphasis the seriousness of the issue and causes the reader to empathise with
the twins. The writer attempts to place the reader in the girls shoes by giving their personal
experiences. The article begins with a very personal account of how an ordinary choice could result in
much more than a fashion disaster but rather a question of life and death. For example, the lives of two
French journalists are in danger of being killed by the Army of Iraq unless the legislation is revoked.
The lexis used in the article is emotive, such as the noun abuse and adjectives frustrated and
threatening . These appeal to the readers emotions. The pre modification of words such as radicalism
with rising and damage with seriously also emphasises the seriousness of the situation. The
vocabulary is quite sophisticated, as expected due to the type of newspaper and is from a war semantic
field, containing words such as direct breach , expulsion , army , law and extremists .

Reverberation Map Analysis
Seyfert galaxies are one of the two largest groups of active galaxies, along with quasars. They have
quasar like nuclei (very luminous, distant and bright sources of electromagnetic radiation) with very
high surface brightnesses whose spectra reveal strong, high ionisation emission lines, but unlike
quasars, their host galaxies are clearly detectable. Seyfert galaxies account for about 10% of all
galaxies and are some of the most intensely studied objects in astronomy, as they are thought to be
powered by the same phenomena that occur in quasars, although they are closer and less luminous
than quasars. These galaxies have supermassive black holes at their centers which are surrounded by
accretion discs of in falling material. The accretion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is confirmed by the fact that the narrow lines do not vary detectably, which implies that the
emitting region is large, contrary to the broad lines which can vary on relatively short timescales.
Reverberation mapping is a technique which uses this variability to try to determine the location and
morphology of the emitting region. This technique measures the structure and kinematics of the broad
line emitting region by observing the changes in the emitted lines as a response to changes in the
continuum. The use of reverberation mapping requires the assumption that the continuum originates in
a single central source. For 35 AGN, reverberation mapping has been used to calculate the mass of the
central black holes and the size of the broad line regions. In the few radio loud Seyfert galaxies that
have been observed, the radio emission is believed to represent synchrotron emission from the jet. The
infrared emission is due to radiation in other bands being reprocessed by dust near the nucleus. The
highest energy photons are believed to be created by inverse Compton scattering by a high
temperature corona near the black

The Age Of Enlightenment And The American Revolution
The Age of Enlightenment was the gateway to more individualized theories and ways of
contemplating. The way people used to reason and think was gone. A lot of people started to come
across further developments in the science fields. They also began to separate from restricting groups.
People were encouraged by Enlightenment thinkers to think beyond what restricted them. As soon as
this idea was embedded in their minds people started separating from the church and the
laws/principles they had conformed to prior to the enlightened thinkers. The principles or dogma were
said to be detrimental to the thought process of people. It was said to be in place to restrict people
from feeling things they truly felt. The same went with religion. Prior to the encouragement of the
enlightened thinkers people blindly followed any religion they were told to. No one thought for
themselves. First, one of history s most prime examples of enlightened thinkers influencing people
and the way that they think is the American Revolution. The American Revolution perfectly and
beyond adequately demonstrates thinkers encouraging people to fight against those oppressing them.
The American people in this situation were encouraged to fight by Joh Locke. Locke was commonly
known for being a philosopher, his essay on human understanding, and his interest in a limited
government. However, more common than most he is known for his argument on the theory of natural
rights. John Locke believed in having

Resistance Of Change And Change Management
Resistance to Change
NASA had a firm hierarchy and this brought about a lot of resistance to change from people. NASA
could have gotten more of the people involved in the changes. I find that by getting people involved
and having some key people or champions to support the change, there is less resistance. People want
to feel involved and a part of decisions, especially if it impacts them directly. When it comes to
successful change management, get people involved earlier, which will contribute to greater buy in
and acceptance. Keep in mind that this should not be the sole solution for employee resistance;
successful change management is about understanding the true nature of the resistance.
Often times change management can be so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Change implementation entails identifying the structure as is, present problems, current process and its
resources as well as how resources are coupled to the system. Deep thought process needs to be
undertaken to see the impact of replacing systems, process, and resources with another one.
Furthermore, before that an analysis needs to be performed identifying the possible alternative and
how that will address the issue and improve the overall mechanism (Creasey, 2014). However, these
analyses were not performed in this NASA episode. The recommendation was just laid over. As
mentioned in the case study, there was a lot of pressure on the contractors and staff by keeping current

Lawler uses symbols, the actions of the characters, the structure of the play and mise en scene to

Essay on The Development of Afro-Brazilian Religions
The origin of Afro Brazilian religions is traced back to the Atlantic slave trade that took place in the
16th century . Portuguese people captured individuals from Bantu tribes and the other West African
communities. The slave trade involved the transfer of these people to Brazil, where they were sold as
slaves. The interaction of slaves from different cultural and religious backgrounds led to the
development of the Afro Brazilian religions that consequently spread all over Brazil. The religions did
not; however, develop at once since they faced opposition from the then government that recognized
the Roman Catholic as the only religion in Brazil. Attempts by Africans to worship in their own

Gangs and Violence in The Prison System Essay
Gangs and Violence in the Prison System
Introduction
Gang violence is nationwide and is one of the most prominent problems in the prison system today.
Gangs are known to attempt to control the prisons/jails, instill fear within the prison system and
throughout the society, and bring negative attention to the system. Gang affiliated inmates comprise
about 18 percent of the 18000 inmate population. (Seabrook) A growing numbers of inmates and a
large amount of them serving longer sentences for violent crimes suggest a notable increase in gangs
and violence in the prison system in the upcoming future.

In order to find a solution for the problem the prison system took and is still taking steps such as
classifying the gang members and other violent inmates as security threat groups (STG s). Both prison
officials and law enforcement agencies refer to gangs as STG s rather than gangs in order to take away
from the assumptions and exposure that the word gang gets. There are several ways of becoming
classified as a security threat group, such as self admission, known gang tattoos, confiscation of STG
paraphernalia, or information provided by an informant acknowledging the inmate as a gang member.
All known security threat groups are kept in single inmate cells known as administration segregation
to separate them from the rest of the inmate population, in hopes of reducing the amount of
communication between gang members and the amount violence. One problem with administration
segregation is a the amount of available space; the number of inmates classified as a security threat
group greatly exceeds the space available thus causing many prisons to keep STG s in the general
inmate population and putting only leaders of the gangs in administration segregation. The simple
decision of allowing the security threat groups to remain in the general inmate population increases
the probability of violence within the prison tremendously. The prisons have also implemented a

Validation In The Canterbury Tales Essay
One of the main forces behind humanity s drive to be a good person is validation. Religion is a way
for people to become better and receive validation from others. In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury
Tales, Chaucer writes about a large group of people on a pilgrimage, who keep themselves occupied
by telling stories to each other. The Canterbury Tales shows how many different kinds of people find
validation through religion. The Canterbury Tales makes it seem as though the only reason people
followed religion was to receive acceptance from others through the Church because the characters do
not take religion or God seriously. Religious figures on the pilgrimage, like the Friar and the Prioress,
break their promises of chastity to God constantly, yet they continue to claim they are good figures of
the Church because people think more highly of them if they are practicing abstinence. The Prioress is
not truly faithful to God, which is seen in her brooch of shining gold; inscribed thereon/ Was, first of
all, a crowned A ,/ And under, [love conquers all], (7). The Prioress is a nun who supposedly devoted
herself to God through marriage. When a nun declares herself faithful to God, it means that she will
practice abstinence. A brooch that says love conquers all implies that the person wearing it is someone
for whom their promise to god is second to their desire for worldly love. Likewise, the Prioress also
accepts gifts from men, showing once again that she does not take

Brain tumor detection is a tedious job because of the complex structure of the brain. From the MR
images, the information such as tumor location can be understood. It provides an easier way to
diagnose the tumor and plan the surgical approach for its removal. Doctors do not have a method that
can be used for brain tumor detection and standardization, which leads to varying conclusions between
one doctor to another. There comes the requirement of an automated system for locating tumor in
Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI).
The existing classification methods have limitation in accuracy, exactness and require manual
interaction. So, designing automated system using image segmentation techniques helps make the
detection accurate and efficient.
A new system that can be used as a second decision for the surgeons and radiologists is proposed. In
this system, brain tumors have been segmented with the help of two methods that is Enhanced K
Strange Points and K Means algorithms followed by Morphological Filtering.
The Enhanced K Strange Points Clustering algorithm converged faster with less number of steps than
the K Means Clustering algorithm.
Segmentation of brain image is imperative in surgical planning and treatment planning in the field of
medicine. In this work, we have proposed a computer aided system for brain MR image segmentation
using Enhanced K Strange Points Clustering algorithms

An Unhealthy System Of The United States And Without...
According to Hagop Kantarjian, we rank 70 out of 132 countries An Unhealthy System (2). With that
being said its shows that we do not have the best, but that were also in the lower half of the chain.
Many probably think how is that so, but the fact of the matter is that it is just so costly for good health
care in our great country of the United States and without insurance, it makes it nearly impossible to
pay for any medical expenses that we may face. Many would argue that we do have the best health
care, and I would say they are not completely wrong, but where we fall short is that it is too expensive
and more times than not people often make poor choices in taking care for their body even though
there are ways to do so. I feel we could make drastic strides in moving up this ranking system by if we
simply just changed our diets and made a little time to work out. This would go a long way in keeping
your body feeling well and keeping costs down when you would be going to the doctor for checkups.
This quote right here was something that I said right when we were assigned this paper and
completely agree with what this doctor has to say. W. Allen Schaffer says it best; it depends on what
we mean by best . If someone is fortunate enough to be part of an employer sponsored plan, he or she
may have access to the best health care technology in the world. But the fact that we have so many
uninsured in this country is a national disgrace. Do we really have the best health

The Ethics Of Reproduction
This post was very intriguing and informative about the views you have on this topic. I do believe that
people desire without fully understanding what desire is or how they came to that conclusion. People
do learn how to comprehend everything, from the moment we were born, the new world and people
become the basis of our learning and comprehension. The child looks around and learn all about the
surrounding, then soaking it in like a sponge, just to understand the world we live in today. The need
to protect is something that people feel throughout their lives, especially their families. Maslow had a
great idea about the limits of humans, but only on some physical needs, such as reproduction and the
need to stay busy. Reproduction is a need that

Evolution Of Boxing Essay
The origins of modern boxing dates back to England in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
Although protoforms of blood sports and combat date back to ancient Greece and Rome it has a totally
different concept as the boxing we know today. The antecedent of the boxing we understand today was
bareknuckle prizefighting. Bareknuckle prizefighting became popular about the same time England
emerged as a major capitalist world power. The rise of the sport boxing came in a part from the growth
of commercialized leisure and popular recreation. London prize ring rules governed the sport of
prizefighting as a bare knuckle event or contest until the gloves were introduced. The evolution of
boxing has had a great change such as the history of boxing, women in boxing, and even the style and
rules have changed ( Boxing Early 1). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now it is more controlled with better technique and better knowledge about the dangers and risks of
boxing. When the concept of boxing began they just got in the ring and fought until someone could
not go anymore, most of the time the fighters that lost were prone to die either that day or later in the
week because they could not treat the wounds and they became ill. (* medic book).
There are some great names in the sport of boxing ranging from Mike Tyson to Muhammad Ali.
Boxers dedicate their whole lives to the sport just like any other athlete, like a football player.
Muhammad Ali was born on January 17 in Louisville, Kentucky (Diamond 6). Muhammad Ali s real
name is Cassius Clay but he prefers to be called Muhammad Ali or just Ali. Ali began boxing at the
age of twelve, his style of fighting was not very orthodox but it was effective. It is believed that his
style and quickness made it easy for him to dodge the opponent s punches. (Diamond 6,

Different Visual Illustrations in Perception Essay
Different Visual Illustrations in Perception How can visual illusions illustrate top down processes in
perception? Contrast this with a visual illusion that can be explained through bottom up processes.
Text Box:
Figure 1 Muller Lyer illusion
There are many suggestions to explain how visual illusions can be perceived. These suggestions
include physical illusions, bottom up illusions and top down illusions. An example of a physical
illusion is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this illusion the lines in both A and B are the same length however the arrows pointing inwards in A
make the line appear longer than when the arrows point outwards as in B. Gregory explained this
illusion in 1970 by suggesting that the lines are perceived as being three dimensional rather than two
dimensional. This is shown in figure 2 where A is shown as the inside of the room and B shown as the
outside. By perceiving the objects in this way A becomes further away than B. However given that the
lines are of the same size by applying the principle of size constancy it can be concluded that A is
perceived as being longer than B. For this to be perceived knowledge about what the outside and
inside of a building looks like must be taken into account. This therefore shows how prior knowledge
is used when the image is perceived and so shows how the Muller Lyer illusion is perceived through
top down processing.
Similarly the  Necker Cube illusion (figure 3) can also be explained through top down processing.
In this illusion the cube flips between two different interpretations of the picture whereby one of the
faces of the cube can appear to be at the front of the cube but also can appear to be at the back of the
cube. Work carried out by Wheatstone

The Conflict Between Greece And Persia
Once the conflict between Greece and Persia had ceased in 479 BCE, Athens found themselves
following a new leader, an Athenian statesman, Pericles, who had a fervent interest in advancing
Athens. Under Pericles leadership, Athens experienced a period of time in the 5th century where they
were regarded as the cultural, intellectual and commercial heart of the Hellenic world. Their
hegemony and superiority contributed to the creation of a Golden Age, a valid title, which is currently
embraced by historians. During this period of time, Athens flourished with culture, art and literature,
had an impact in the scientific and medical world, and had a substantial amount of influence and
control over the rest of Greece.
Pericles was often referred to as the Patron of the Arts due to his immense dedication and passion
towards it. His passion led to Athens experiencing their peak of culture with a burst of art and
literature surfacing. Pericles directed projects to advance Athens culturally, such as lowering
admission prices for plays to allow the lower class entry (History.com Staff, 2009) and was
responsible for the world s most recognised Acropolis, which is a citadel or complex that has been
built on a high hill. Acropolis was originally designed to be a single temple to honour Greek goddess,
Athena, however, Pericles made the decision to expand the project after the first temple, Parthenon,
was completed. The other temples that Pericles made plans to build, Erechtheum and

Theory Of Evaluator s Practice
Theory in Evaluator s Practice
Evaluation theory is a broad term, there are many different theories and models to follow in an
evaluation. An evaluator can pick any when doing an evaluation, however each as a ground
framework they start with. That starting theory can show up when they first begin an evaluation.
However the evaluation determines the theory used to best address the problem or program being
evaluated. I interviewed an evaluator, Person A, who explained that every evaluation and assessment
is unique, so her approach was holistic to try to see every necessary variable and she used mix and
match theories she knew to best address the current issues, sometimes changing models when
necessary. For the start of planning an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She uses her training in education to examine data from assessments to identify weak spot in services
and programs to create evaluation in improving these. She has learned how evaluation data can be
applied and the importance of applying it to make improvements and identifying weak spots in
services or programs. While she has experience in doing many types of evaluations like process,
outcomes and impact, she prefers to do process and impact evaluations to create change or
improvements and track their progress.
One example of a process evaluation she does is to find out student satisfaction of services and to
address any inefficiencies. Last year a survey was emailed to students who used the service at the end
of the year. Some strengths of this evaluation was their data collection and survey method were more
efficient after upgrading from paper to electronic resources. With an emailed survey they got a higher
response rate than using paper surveys. However the response rate was still low since the survey was
sent out once at the end of the year. Person A wanted a higher response rate, so she implemented a
change by sending out the survey to students shortly after they used the service so she will
continuously collect data and be able to analyze it at the end of each semester. More students have
replied since the survey was sent out right after their use instead of asking them about

  • 2. Atmospheric Oxygen, Giant Paleozoic Insects and the... Animal gigantism was prevalent during the Carboniferous period of the Paleozoic era. Gigantism in flying insects occurred in abundance; however, arthropods, such as arthropleurids, also experienced gigantism. Arthropleurids existed during the Paleozoic era and were the largest land dwelling arthropods in the history of the Earth. 1m long millipedes are classified as arthropleurids. Amphibians such as the terrestrial labyrinthodont amphibians also became gigantic during the Carboniferous period. Large amphibians reached body lengths of up to 2m. However, these amphibians are limited by respiration through the skin, which is known to restrict maximum body size. The wingspan of a certain extinct dragon fly exceeded 70cm and the wingspan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hyperoxia is used to test for diffusive limitations in respiratory pathways. If high levels of oxygen does not increase the rate of oxygen use, then non diffusive, convective, or pertusive limits to aerobic capacities are indicated. Studies of exercising humans show that high levels of oxygen do increase the maxim rate of oxygen use. However, no exercising amphibians and reptiles have been studied. Simulations of amphibian paleophysiology should also consider carbon dioxide interaction with hyperoxia and hypooxia and its resulting effect on the evolution of vertebrate metabolism. Effects of hyperoxia on the thermoregulation of vertebrates would be helpful. Various vertebrates have lower body temperature under lower oxygen levels Animal flight is particularly fascinating because of the metabolism energy needed to maintain flight is high. Experiments with animal flight could produce a physiological extreme in regards oxygen uptake and animal size. Studies of hummingbird hovering ability under low density and low oxygen levels showed that flight performance was constrained by the amount of oxygen available. Hummingbirds failed to maintain flight at oxygen levels of 11 14%, which equivalents to the amount of oxygen present at an elevation of 4000 m. Studies of hummingbird flight in normal oxygen levels (20.9%) and low density showed that physical and structural constraint, rather than chemical metabolism, limits flight ability. The ... • 3. HIV Treatment Adherence Essay Treatment adherence is critical for HIV positive individuals, but many find it challenging to maintain. Sarita D. Boyd (2011) conducted a review of currently recommended treatment guidelines for patients managing HIV infection, including adherence obstacles and benefits. According to Boyd, HIV treatment should consist of antiretroviral therapy and routine health monitoring, but many patients often defer treatment and fail to report for monitoring appointments. Reasons for this failure to adhere to the treatment plan vary depending on the individual patient, and the situation may be further complicated by differing medical opinions and lack of resources and opportunity for the patient. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is the current standard for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The cost of these drugs is a major obstacle to treatment adherence because they are expensive, averaging $22,000.00 to $32,000.00 annually for consistent treatment (Boyd, 2011). Several government programs cover initial HIV screening costs but not life time care, so many patients only take their medicines as their finances allow (Boyd, 2011). This nonadherence leads to the development of drug resistance which increases transmission potential and decreases treatment options (Boyd, 2011). Efavirenz is a fixed dose ART combining tenofovir and emtricitabine (Boyd, 2011). It offers once daily dosing and is currently the simplest and least expensive protocol available. Due to deferred treatment options, less pills, once daily dosing, fewer side effects and improved drug potency, HIV patients are reporting increased treatment adherence and better treatment success (Boyd, 2011). More efforts must be made to insure treatment adherence throughout the entire life of the patient. Another hindrance to early diagnosis and program adherence lies in the communication skills and comfort levels of patient and physician. The article HIV prevention efforts mired in patient denial, physician discomfort (2011) examines the attitudes of both patients ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Social Darwinism In The Mayor Of Casterbridge Upon returning from his voyage, renowned scientist Charles Darwin published his findings on his theory of survival of the fittest . He claimed that the most powerful ascend higher on the scale of survival, whereas the disadvantaged and weak remain at the bottom. A few decades later, this concept was adapted to apply to social, economic and political issues a term which later was coined as Social Darwinism. This phenomenon was the basis for the explanation of why certain individuals accumulate success and triumph over others. The theories of Darwin s work can be applied in literature as well, especially in The Mayor of Casterbridge. In this case, the strength of an individual was dependent on their reputation and social rankings. This placed females at a disadvantage, due to the patriarchal standards and oppression, as well as those who were morally unjust and disliked throughout the community, such as Henchard. Once engulfed in the classification as unfit , demise and suffering is no longer a force that can be controlled and evaded by human actions. In his novel, The Mayor of Casterbridge, Thomas Hardy applies the theories of Social Darwinism to prove that suffering is inevitable among the morally and socially weak and disliked through the recurring symbolism of animals, the unpredictable weather, and Lucetta s demise. The inclusion of various animals in Hardy s novel serve a deeper purpose than as livestock in the agrarian society of Casterbridge; they are symbolic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of Los Olvidados With a great reputation for its historical significance, Los olvidados (1951), a film shot in Mexico City, directed by Luis Buñuel, endorsed the defining point of his profession. Having studied the given excerpt of the script from a scene of the film, this report will not only portray intriguing political, historical and social aspects, but also the phonological, morphological and lexical aspects and how they influence the given content. The geographical location of this film has also proven to be of relevant influence. Buñuel succeeded to attract the wider world s interest into his work as it was his intention to make everyone realise the truth. Ironically, Buñuel being a surrealist director, Los olvidados was not a surreal film. It was the first film directly addressing not only the issues identified with the Mexican society but also Mexican cinema itself. From here, the attributes of Mexican cinema were perpetually replaced. Content Analysis Los olvidados is based around the unfortunate events of streetboys whom gradually commit lawlessness and breach the law under the influence on Jaibo, their leader. The given excerpt of the script takes place in the beginning of the film, set in the Mexican slums. It is understood that Jaibo has escaped from reform school, spots the boys in the street and reveals his encounters of the inside to them. Many themes are picked up upon throughout this scene, the most fundamental being: Child poverty, crime, machismo and more. Commencing one of the main noticeable themes is poverty, which can be seen towards the end of the given excerpt of the script. Child poverty is presented where Jaibo asks for a cigarette, which Cacarizo replies to with Ni cigarros, ni quinto, mano. (Pountain: 209). It is inferred that the boys have essentially nothing which can be linked to the historical aspects of Mexico city may have influenced Buñuel s work. Due to the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (1927) creating an economy based on the political views of themselves and the more prestigious citizens of mexico, with only the rich getting wealthier, leaving the rest unprivileged and poverty stricken. • 8. Analysis Of Jean Louis Comolli And Jean Narboni s ... In Jean Louis Comolli and Jean Narboni s essay Cinema/Ideology/Criticism, they put forward the central argument that film is a commercial product in the capitalist system and therefore also the unconscious instrument of the dominant ideology which produces it. In opposition to the classic film theory that applauds camera as an impartial device to reproduce reality, they argue that what the camera reproduces is merely a refraction of the prevailing ideology. Therefore, the primary and political task for filmmakers is to disrupt this replication of the world as self evident and the function of film criticism is to identify and evaluate that politics. Comolli and Narboni then suggest seven categories of films confronting ideology in different ways, among which the second category resists the prevailing ideology on two levels. Films of this group not only overtly deal with political contents in order to attack their ideological assimilation (Comolli and Narboni 483), but also achieve their goal through breaking down the conventional way of depicting reality. Palindromes (2004), directed by Todd Solondz, to a large degree corresponds to the category B proposed by Comolli and Narboni. On the level of the signified, namely the film s content, this black comedy directly tackles the heatedly debated social and political issues surrounding teen pregnancy and abortion in the United States. This style of poetry implies that war is patriotic and that people who fight for their country are honorable. But many of the poets do not portray war as it really is, by glossing over the gory details with attractive images. Many traditional war poems were written before the war to persuade and encourage young boys to become loyal soldiers. Many of the soldiers were taught to believe that they were the chosen few and they were delighted to take part. They even thanked God, Now, God be thanked, Who had matched us with His hour . Similarities Between Massachusetts Bay And Virginia Through the development of Virginia and Massachusetts Bay a few similarities can be noted, however, the development of these two colonies were vastly different. Both of these colonies were formed with a hope for profit and both of these colonies followed a government that consisted of counties with sheriffs and governors. As far as economically successful colonies go, Massachusetts Bay proved to be the more successful of the two. • 11. My Favorite Vacation Spot My Favorite Family Vacation Spot As soon as I got of the plane and breathed in that City air I new my life would change for the better. I was waiting for this day for the past several months. It was the first time I would go with my father and brothers on their Boys Only Vacation . I was thrilled at the fact that they would finally let me tag along with them. This year they decided to go to Washington D.C. I had never been to D.C before, and what made it even better was the fact that around the time we would arrive it would be snowing. It was my first time ever seeing snow with my naked eye. So when the time came we headed out to Tampa International Airport. We checked our bags, went threw security and waiting in line before entering the aircraft. It was about a 2 hour flight before we arrived in the place that now has my heart till the day I die. As soon as we stepped out the Airport my eyes were widened by the site of seeing snow for the first time. The snow felt as if it was made out of a snow cone machine. The sound of my feet stomping in the snow like stepping on packing peanuts is the sound that I will listen to for hours. After about a quarter of a mile walk we got to the subway station where for the first time I experienced how busy big cities can be. We got our cards and headed downstairs to where the subway trains were. The sound of a jazz musician playing Duke Ellington s Rhapsody in Blue made me want to give the man all the money in my pocket but sadly I couldn t. There was also the smell of chili cheese dogs that the people next to us were trying to scarf down before the train arrived. Finally it arrived and this was my first time on a subway car. The feeling of my butt on the rough cushioned chairs wasn t the best feeling in the world. The sight on many people from Jamaican to Irish was one that I haven t seen in such a small compacted space. I could also see the sight of Jefferson Memorial and the Potomac River as we passed them was breathtaking. • 12. Socrates s View On Plato s The And Aristophanes s The... Elenchus, as a famous Socratic method for education, uses dialogue and questions to approach philosophical truths. The method is presented in both Plato s the Euthyphro and Aristophanes s the Clouds. However, Socrates s personal image and characteristics, as well as the nature of his questioning differ a lot in these two works. While the Euthyphro presents a philosopher king guiding the less wise people in discovery of truths, Socrates in the Clouds has little interest in either exploring the ethical truth or helping others get out of Plato s cave . Instead, he is portrayed as a sophist who corrupts people with mysterious and useless knowledge, ignores traditional Athenian education, and debilitates Athenian men. Compared to Plato s focus on Socrates s wisdom reflected in the dialogue, the Clouds is a distorted interpretation of Socrates s elenchus. Rather than justifiably criticizing Socrates, Aristophanes depicts him from a common Athenian s perspective. It is this misunderstanding of the value of Socrates s teaching by Athenian citizens that constitutes the failure of elenchus in both the Clouds and the Euthyphro. Socrates s image in the two works differ firstly in his attitude towards knowledge and towards himself. A typical statement of Socrates, both in the Euthyphro and in other Plato s works, is that he has no clear knowledge. He is different from the public because he knows that he does not know. Neither does he claim to teach or corrupt the young (Euthyphro, p.2 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay about High Stakes Testing High Stakes Testing In 1997, President Bill Clinton stated that the United States needed, a national crusade for education standards not federal government standards, but national standards, representing what all our students must know to succeed in the knowledge economy of the twenty first century (http://books.nap.edu/books/0309062802/html/13.html). The way to succeed in this journey is through standardized testing that results in consequences for teachers and students. High stakes testing also improves students achievement. Eugene Watts, Ohio s State Senator, discusses a new exam that will be required for high school graduation starting in September of 2004. It is a tribute to the process we have established that Ohio was one of only three states to receive a grade of A by the Fordman Foundation in its appraisal of math standards in 1998. Ohio s model math standards also have the highest rating by the American Federation of Teachers and a grade of B+ for the level of rigor in a review of state standards in 1998 by the Council of Basic Education. Before proficiency testing, Ohio schools were graduating students with second grade math skills and fourth grade reading levels (http://www.enc.org/topics/ assessment/testing/document.shtm?input=FOC 001574 index). The students of Ohio were given a challenge, and they not only lived up to the standards, they surpassed them! An odd land where you can sit in 80 degree temps and have palm trees surrounding you and look up to the mountains tops covered in snow. Where so many have wondered in to discover a part of Africa rich in abundance of unique culture and heritage. Where poets and story tellers have left with a story to tell of a great land to which they have traveled. American Paul Bowles wrote many books set in Morocco, arguably the best being The Spiders House, which is set in Fez. There were many famous authors from Morocco itself which gave the outside world an insight to the country. Some famous Moroccans authors include Leila Abouzeid, Barbara Parmenter who wrote the famous book, Year of the Elephant: A Moroccan Woman s Journey Toward Independence. Challenging the way people treated woman and thoughts of woman. Even though this book was fictional it encouraged a forward movement for the rights of Moroccan woman, all by using the power of pen. • 15. The Concept Of Jesus Being Fully Man Introduction The concept of Jesus being fully man but also fully God at the same time has been debated amongst scholars, both Christians and non Christians alike for centuries. The doctrine and study surrounding the person of Jesus is known as Christology, and after extensive and often hostile debates the Church gave a concluding definition of its Christology in 451 CE at the Council of Chalcedon. It was stated that they affirmed the belief in Jesus Christ as one Person in two natures, which are united without confusion. The early church was adamant that the Incarnation was one of the most important truths of the Christian faith. Maurice Wiles, an Oxford patristic scholar summarised the Chalcedons s aims as follows: On the other hand was the conviction that a saviour must be fully divine; on the other hand was the conviction that what is not assumed is not healed. Or, to put the matter in other words, the source of salvation must be God; the locus of salvation must be humanity. It is quite clear that these two principles often pulled in opposite directions. The Council of Chalcedon was the church s attempt to resolve, or perhaps rather to agree to live with, that tension. This essay will examine and critically analyse this stance alongside answering the question of would it matter if Jesus were not fully God and fully human? Five specific points will be looked at; Jesus is God, Jesus is man, Jesus is a sinless man, Jesus will be fully God and man forever, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Difference Between Civil Law And Criminal Law What is the difference between criminal and civil law? What is a tort? What are three forms of product liability cases that can be formed due to a manufacturer s negligence? And what is a warranty? These are all important questions that are answered by having a basic knowledge of the law and regulations. Let s take a look at each term and how our legal court system has defined them. First, criminal law is a crime and considered a type of wrongdoing. It can be against an individual or to society as a whole that is perceived as threatening, harmful, or otherwise an endangerment to a person s property, health, safety, and/or moral welfare. We define these crimes as assault, battery, arson, rape, or fraud, just to name a few. Therefore, if a person allegedly has committed a crime, a public official such as a district attorney, will file a case against a defendant, whom is then required to appear in court. The defendant then will need to appear before a judge or jury and based on the evidence presented a finding will be either innocence or guilt. If a defendant in a criminal matter is found guilty, our society believes that a defendant should serve a punishment for their wrong doings. Therefore, punishments for the wrong doer are either fines, probation, imprisonment, or in some cases even death. Second, civil law is an injury to a person or property in which a civil action begins when a party files a complaint. For example, a civil matter could be a breach of ... Essay about The Privacy of E-Mail The Privacy of E Mail Today the Internet is being used more and more frequently, and the question of e mail privacy is becoming more and more of an issue in society. Many people today, both at work and at home, are using e mail to keep in touch with their friends, family, and their co workers. Sometimes the information that is contained in these messages is private and confidential, neither the sender nor the receiver wish any one else to be privy to what is contained in these messages. It would be very difficult to prove that someone intercepted a message that was not meant for them and read it. Another problem that comes with this act is that it does not protect the person from having their e mail read by an inside source . An inside source would include, their boss or another member of the company that they are working for, so someone in that position could reasonably read their e mail without having to worry about reprimands form the company. Courts have ruled that e mail sent via an office system is only private if the sender has a reasonable expectation of privacy when they send it. Again this can be pretty vague about what a persons reasonable expectation of privacy for their e mail means. What reasonable expectation means for one person may be very different for another, creating quite a problem in the company about what reasonable expectation is. Many companies now have policies for their employee e mail that states that it is not a good idea for a person to send private e mail through the companies system. It is also a know fact that if the company owns the system that the e mail is being sent through then they have the right to inspect and to read what is being sent. If a person wishes to avoid prying eyes they might wish to have an old fashioned face to face conversation when discussing something that is private. Some people today are ... • 19. Analysis Of Wuthering Heights And Dracula The Thrilling Expedition to the Art of Gothic Novel in particular and literature in general is more than just a work of fiction but in fact the hidden reflection of a specific historical era. Although, Frankenstein, Wuthering Heights and Dracula were written in different times and each leaves its readers with different emotion and contemplation stages, they all share an affinity: the presence of Gothic elements. Indeed, these novels are designed to lead their reader into thrilling journeys through spooky dark setting, suspense horrifying plot, and claustrophobic atmosphere. These elements, though appear in various forms throughout these three novels, still excellently accomplish their mission of enticing the readers to be caught up in the narrative. The dark settings are usually depicted through the presence of old or abandoned buildings, castles, dungeons, crypts, or even extreme landscapes. In Frankenstein, when working on his second being, his laboratory is set on the remotest of the Orkneys in Scotland, the island which is described as nothing more than a rock, whose high sides were continually beaten upon by the waves (Shelley 188). Moreover, in addition to the isolation, this place is also in molder and abandoned situation, which enhances the dreadfully dismal of the setting. Indeed, the author has built such a perfect birthplace for the creation of a hideous being. The setting of Wuthering Heights, on the other hand, is based more on the extreme of landscape and ... • 20. Shakespeare s Life And Characters In Hamlet By William... Throughout the years, humankind had find different ways to pass the time. One way to pass the time for humans is writing. This is a form of expressing our inner feelings, helping others, or communicate with one another. During the 1590 s, an author by the name of William Shakespeare began writing plays to entertain not only himself, but his audiences as well. Like any other author, his plays came from inspirations, more specifically, Hamlet. His life views can be seen in this play and influenced how characters interacted with others or viewed life. Due to William Shakespeare s terrible experiences with love, his characters in Hamlet and other works experience hardships with romantic affairs. At the age of eighteen years old, in November 1582, Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway who at the time was twenty six years old. The most common probiotic bacteria strains seem to work well with most people, no matter if you enjoy normal health or if you suffer from poor health. But one thing is clear: The unhealthier your lifestyle is, the more you need probiotics. It s important to remember that each person carries a unique gut microflora. It s like a unique fingerprint belonging only to one person. This microflora needs to be kept in a delicate balance to work well. If you eat junk food, processed foods, drink soda, or experience stress and tension daily, you can be sure it will affect your gut it can easily get out of balance. The condition of your gut and intestine will affect the level of health you enjoy. The specific makeup of the microflora in your gut and intestine is determined by your genes, your eating and drinking habits, and other factors. Most studies made on probiotics show that probiotics acts to balance your gut and combat the bad effects of modern, stressful living. And probiotics does this without side effects. • 23. Understanding The Conflict Resolution Strategy Essay Healthy Conflict Resolution Strategy Conflicts are an inevitable part of human life. Whether they happen in personal lives or within organizations, it is human nature to be involved in conflicts. Workplace conflicts, such as the one in the current situation with Dr. Jones and Susan, can result in negative consequences if they are not handled adequately. Some of these consequences may include irreparable damage to the relationships and disrupt teamwork, becoming an overall detriment to the organization. However, if the conflict is managed properly it can bring the problems to light and motivates the conflicted individuals to work together to find a solution that is agreed upon (Omisore Abiodun, 2014). Understanding the Conflict The first step for a manager would be to understand the conflict at hand. To recap, Susan is fed up with Dr. Jones because she believes he is constantly cutting corners in his position by leaving early, coming in late, or not coming in at all. According to Omisore and Abiodun (2014), there are three different classifications of conflicts: Relationship conflicts, task conflicts, and process conflicts. A relationship conflict is when there is a dispute between individuals that may include clashing of personalities or annoyance which can lead to feelings of frustration, mistrust, and even resentment. Task conflicts happen when there are incompatibilities about the contents of tasks or work goals. Process conflicts arise when there are disagreements ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. The Effects Of Aerobic Exercise On Pregnancy Effects of Aerobic Exercise on Pregnancy Aerobic exercise is another fantastic type of physical activity for pregnant women. It is a great alternative for mothers who are apprehensive about resistance training. Aerobic exercise guidelines for mostly sedentary pregnant women state that they should perform at about 60% 70% of their heart rate maximum, and guidelines for active pregnant women suggest they perform at about 60% 90% of their heart rate maximum (11). The United States guidelines supports exercise throughout the full nine months of pregnancy as a positive decision for expecting mothers (2). Just a handful of gains made while aerobically exercising during pregnancy include maintaining weight, less complications with delivery, a shorter labor, a decrease in stress, less back pain, a decrease in arterial stiffness, improved posture, increased self confidence, improved insulin sensitivity and glycogen storing, better sleep, a decreased risk of preeclampsia, decreased pelvic girdle pain, and an increased quality of life (6, 9, 11, 12, 15, 16, 17, 19, 23). It is also important to acknowledge that mothers who exercised 3 months before they became pregnant experienced even more advantages with a significant decrease in pregnancy discomforts (9). In two separate studies made up of 43 and 37 pregnant women, mothers participated in a moderate aerobic exercise program. In the first study mothers were trained with general exercise machines, and in the second mothers performed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Decision Making On Black Carbon Mitigation Decision Making on Black Carbon Mitigation Introduction There have been myriad of findings over the past couple of years suggesting that climate change may be happening far faster than we originally anticipated. Climate change has the potential to trigger abrupt transitions such as the release of carbon from thawing permafrost, ocean acidification, sea level rise, and biodiversity loss. The world has warmed by about 1.5°F, and by 2100 it is projected to rise another 2 to 11.5°F (Karl et al., 2009). Scientists conclude that greenhouse gases (GHG) from anthropogenic sources are the most significant driver of observed climate change (IPCC 2013). GHG have the property of absorbing the infrared radiation given off by the Earth and re emitting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... BC has a short atmospheric residence time of days to weeks, while long‐lived GHGs can persist in the atmosphere for centuries. Therefore, reductions in GHG emissions will take longer to influence atmospheric concentrations and will have less impact on climate on a short timescale, whereas reductions in current BC emissions are immediate (Bice et al., 2009). Apart from that, some scientists (Shindell Faluvegi 2009, Ramanathan Feng 2009, Quinn et al. 2008, Jacobson 2010) attribute up to 50% of arctic ice melting to BC emissions, therefore its emissions reductions can substantially decrease the rate at which arctic ice is melting. Thus, initiatives focused on lowering BC will help offset the impact of decades of GHG emissions and give efforts to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions time to get off the ground. It s worth mentioning that BC also has adverse effect on human health, such as premature mortality, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, and development of chronic respiratory disease, so targeting BC emissions will be beneficial from the public health standpoint (EPA 2011). Bringing black carbon into climate strategy offers a complementary route to act on climate change, but the scientific understanding of black carbon climate effects isn t fully complete to support this proposition. On the one hand, there s a group of scientists who conclude that BC is one of the most important human emission in terms of its climate forcing in current atmosphere, as it ... Note: a larger version of this diagram is located in the CONTENT section of this lesson. 1. Convergent Boundary of two Oceanic Plates: When two oceanic plates collide, one of the plates is subducted under the other during the collision. At the subduction zone, a deep trench is formed in the ocean floor. Oceanic and oceanic plate convergence result in the formation of volcano chains. Over millions of years, the lava and debris from the volcanic eruptions pile up on the ocean floor until the volcano rises above sea level to form a volcanic island. These types of islands are usually formed as chains called island arcs (which run parallel to the trench). 2. Convergent Boundary of an Oceanic and Continental Plate: When an oceanic plate collides with a continental plate, the crust forming the oceanic plate gets bent and pulled under the continental crust (which is because the rocks that the oceanic crust is comprised of are thicker than the rocks that form the continental crust). The process where the oceanic crust is pulled under the continental crust is called subduction and the zone at which this occurs at the plate boundaries is called the subduction zone. It is at the subduction zone where the oceanic crust sinks beneath the continental crust, forming a deep oceanic trench. As well, oceanic and continental plate collisions can result in earthquakes, volcanoes and folded mountain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Seyfert galaxies account for about 10% of all galaxies and are some of the most intensely studied objects in astronomy, as they are thought to be powered by the same phenomena that occur in quasars, although they are closer and less luminous than quasars. This technique measures the structure and kinematics of the broad line emitting region by observing the changes in the emitted lines as a response to changes in the continuum. The use of reverberation mapping requires the assumption that the continuum originates in a single central source. For 35 AGN, reverberation mapping has been used to calculate the mass of the central black holes and the size of the broad line regions. The way people used to reason and think was gone. A lot of people started to come across further developments in the science fields. They also began to separate from restricting groups. People were encouraged by Enlightenment thinkers to think beyond what restricted them. As soon as this idea was embedded in their minds people started separating from the church and the laws/principles they had conformed to prior to the enlightened thinkers. The principles or dogma were said to be detrimental to the thought process of people. It was said to be in place to restrict people from feeling things they truly felt. The same went with religion. Prior to the encouragement of the enlightened thinkers people blindly followed any religion they were told to. No one thought for themselves. First, one of history s most prime examples of enlightened thinkers influencing people and the way that they think is the American Revolution. Few days later, both of them go hunting together and the Lord finally reveals his true identity to Gawain that he is actually the Green Knight. Gawain is mad that he lies to him all the time and challenges him to a fight. Green Knight refuses to fight with him again because he thinks Gawain is weak. Gawain is even angrier and tries to get him into a fight and therefore he lies to the Green Knight that his wife sleeps with him. The Green Knight is furious after he heard that. He raises his axe and swings to Gawain but he defends it with his strong armor. They fight for days and still none of them is defeated. Then, the Green Knight s wife appears and tries to stop the fight. However, the Green Knight does not see his wife is coming and accidentally kills her. Finally, the fight stops and Gawain is terrified seeing that as well. The Green Knight screams angrily and blames all the faults to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Analysis Of Nelson Mandela s State Of The Nation Address It was once stated, Success will require an acceptance that, in many respects, we are a sick society (Mandela 2). Nelson Mandela s State of the Nation Address was an awakening moment for the people of South Africa. Although this is one of the most influential speeches of time, is it more powerful than a fictional novel? Nelson Mandela s State of the Nation Address along with Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address were defining moments in history. Cry, the Beloved Country is not a nonfiction book, but it is based on events from the past. The connection between all three sources are known and make people think, yet the content and actions of Lincoln s and Mandela s speeches leave a profound impact on people s lives. Nelson Mandela devoted his life advocating for human rights. He served 27 years in prison but thrived following his release. Mandela became the first black president of South Africa and proceeded to inspire thousands with his speeches. During this time South Africa faced the challenges of overcoming the legacy of the Apartheid. Inequality, racism, and poverty would have to end in order for the country to prevail. He made people realize, Dealing with these challenges also means accepting the facts of our history (Mandela 3). Mandela faced the problems within his society head on. In addition to this, he was willing to accept the country s flaws and the country was far from reaching its fullest potential. He was able to help his country gain a safe water ... • 43. Validation In The Canterbury Tales Essay One of the main forces behind humanity s drive to be a good person is validation. Religion is a way for people to become better and receive validation from others. In Geoffrey Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer writes about a large group of people on a pilgrimage, who keep themselves occupied by telling stories to each other. The Canterbury Tales shows how many different kinds of people find validation through religion. The Canterbury Tales makes it seem as though the only reason people followed religion was to receive acceptance from others through the Church because the characters do not take religion or God seriously. Religious figures on the pilgrimage, like the Friar and the Prioress, break their promises of chastity to God constantly, yet they continue to claim they are good figures of the Church because people think more highly of them if they are practicing abstinence. The Prioress is not truly faithful to God, which is seen in her brooch of shining gold; inscribed thereon/ Was, first of all, a crowned A ,/ And under, [love conquers all], (7). The Prioress is a nun who supposedly devoted herself to God through marriage. When a nun declares herself faithful to God, it means that she will practice abstinence. A brooch that says love conquers all implies that the person wearing it is someone for whom their promise to god is second to their desire for worldly love. Likewise, the Prioress also accepts gifts from men, showing once again that she does not take ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brain tumor detection is a tedious job because of the complex structure of the brain. From the MR images, the information such as tumor location can be understood. It provides an easier way to diagnose the tumor and plan the surgical approach for its removal. Doctors do not have a method that can be used for brain tumor detection and standardization, which leads to varying conclusions between one doctor to another. There comes the requirement of an automated system for locating tumor in Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI). The existing classification methods have limitation in accuracy, exactness and require manual interaction. So, designing automated system using image segmentation techniques helps make the detection accurate and efficient. A new system that can be used as a second decision for the surgeons and radiologists is proposed. In this system, brain tumors have been segmented with the help of two methods that is Enhanced K Strange Points and K Means algorithms followed by Morphological Filtering. The Enhanced K Strange Points Clustering algorithm converged faster with less number of steps than the K Means Clustering algorithm. Segmentation of brain image is imperative in surgical planning and treatment planning in the field of

  • 46. An Unhealthy System Of The United States And Without... According to Hagop Kantarjian, we rank 70 out of 132 countries An Unhealthy System (2). With that being said its shows that we do not have the best, but that were also in the lower half of the chain. Many probably think how is that so, but the fact of the matter is that it is just so costly for good health care in our great country of the United States and without insurance, it makes it nearly impossible to pay for any medical expenses that we may face. Many would argue that we do have the best health care, and I would say they are not completely wrong, but where we fall short is that it is too expensive and more times than not people often make poor choices in taking care for their body even though there are ways to do so. I feel we could make drastic strides in moving up this ranking system by if we simply just changed our diets and made a little time to work out. This would go a long way in keeping your body feeling well and keeping costs down when you would be going to the doctor for checkups. This quote right here was something that I said right when we were assigned this paper and completely agree with what this doctor has to say. W. Allen Schaffer says it best; it depends on what we mean by best . If someone is fortunate enough to be part of an employer sponsored plan, he or she may have access to the best health care technology in the world. • 47. The Ethics Of Reproduction This post was very intriguing and informative about the views you have on this topic. I do believe that people desire without fully understanding what desire is or how they came to that conclusion. People do learn how to comprehend everything, from the moment we were born, the new world and people become the basis of our learning and comprehension. The child looks around and learn all about the surrounding, then soaking it in like a sponge, just to understand the world we live in today. The need to protect is something that people feel throughout their lives, especially their families. • 48. Evolution Of Boxing Essay The origins of modern boxing dates back to England in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Although protoforms of blood sports and combat date back to ancient Greece and Rome it has a totally different concept as the boxing we know today. The antecedent of the boxing we understand today was bareknuckle prizefighting. Bareknuckle prizefighting became popular about the same time England emerged as a major capitalist world power. The rise of the sport boxing came in a part from the growth of commercialized leisure and popular recreation. London prize ring rules governed the sport of prizefighting as a bare knuckle event or contest until the gloves were introduced. The evolution of boxing has had a great change such as the history of boxing, women in boxing, and even the style and rules have changed ( Boxing Early 1). ... When the concept of boxing began they just got in the ring and fought until someone could not go anymore, most of the time the fighters that lost were prone to die either that day or later in the week because they could not treat the wounds and they became ill. Muhammad Ali s real name is Cassius Clay but he prefers to be called Muhammad Ali or just Ali. Ali began boxing at the age of twelve, his style of fighting was not very orthodox but it was effective. • 49. Different Visual Illustrations in Perception Essay Different Visual Illustrations in Perception How can visual illusions illustrate top down processes in perception? Contrast this with a visual illusion that can be explained through bottom up processes. Text Box: Figure 1 Muller Lyer illusion There are many suggestions to explain how visual illusions can be perceived. These suggestions include physical illusions, bottom up illusions and top down illusions. An example of a physical illusion is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this illusion the lines in both A and B are the same length however the arrows pointing inwards in A make the line appear longer than when the arrows point outwards as in B. Gregory explained this illusion in 1970 by suggesting that the lines are perceived as being three dimensional rather than two dimensional. This is shown in figure 2 where A is shown as the inside of the room and B shown as the outside. By perceiving the objects in this way A becomes further away than B. However given that the lines are of the same size by applying the principle of size constancy it can be concluded that A is perceived as being longer than B. For this to be perceived knowledge about what the outside and inside of a building looks like must be taken into account. This therefore shows how prior knowledge is used when the image is perceived and so shows how the Muller Lyer illusion is perceived through top down processing. Similarly the  Necker Cube illusion (figure 3) can also be explained through top down processing. In this illusion the cube flips between two different interpretations of the picture whereby one of the faces of the cube can appear to be at the front of the cube but also can appear to be at the back of the cube. • 50. The Conflict Between Greece And Persia Once the conflict between Greece and Persia had ceased in 479 BCE, Athens found themselves following a new leader, an Athenian statesman, Pericles, who had a fervent interest in advancing Athens. Under Pericles leadership, Athens experienced a period of time in the 5th century where they were regarded as the cultural, intellectual and commercial heart of the Hellenic world. Their hegemony and superiority contributed to the creation of a Golden Age, a valid title, which is currently embraced by historians. During this period of time, Athens flourished with culture, art and literature, had an impact in the scientific and medical world, and had a substantial amount of influence and control over the rest of Greece. Pericles was often referred to as the Patron of the Arts due to his immense dedication and passion towards it. His passion led to Athens experiencing their peak of culture with a burst of art and literature surfacing. Pericles directed projects to advance Athens culturally, such as lowering admission prices for plays to allow the lower class entry (History.com Staff, 2009) and was responsible for the world s most recognised Acropolis, which is a citadel or complex that has been built on a high hill. Acropolis was originally designed to be a single temple to honour Greek goddess, Athena, however, Pericles made the decision to expand the project after the first temple, Parthenon, was completed. • 51. Theory Of Evaluator s Practice Theory in Evaluator s Practice Evaluation theory is a broad term, there are many different theories and models to follow in an evaluation. An evaluator can pick any when doing an evaluation, however each as a ground framework they start with. That starting theory can show up when they first begin an evaluation. However the evaluation determines the theory used to best address the problem or program being evaluated. I interviewed an evaluator, Person A, who explained that every evaluation and assessment is unique, so her approach was holistic to try to see every necessary variable and she used mix and match theories she knew to best address the current issues, sometimes changing models when necessary. One example of a process evaluation she does is to find out student satisfaction of services and to address any inefficiencies. Last year a survey was emailed to students who used the service at the end of the year. Some strengths of this evaluation was their data collection and survey method were more efficient after upgrading from paper to electronic resources. With an emailed survey they got a higher response rate than using paper surveys. However the response rate was still low since the survey was sent out once at the end of the year.
