Police Altercation Research Paper
Police can come off in many different ways with people recording police altercations and not
recording everything that happens. Resulting in people only getting half of the facts leading to a
large number of people getting upset before they know how a situation played out. Information real
and fake spreads extremely fast online. Another problem is an absurd amount of people believe
fake news and don t look at other sources for information then form an opinion on that current event
based on facts that are wrong. This hurts criminal justiceagencies when people get wrong
information then start looking at policeofficers in a different light. Which can lead to making their
jobs even more dangerous. Many people would like police officers to wear

Termite Lab
The effect of pens on the Reticulitermes flavipes termite Abstract This experiment was
constructed to determine which type of writing utensil the termites were most attracted to and
why. The experiment was performed by placing two separate circles (one red papermate and one
lead pencil) on a piece of paper to see what line is favored by the termite. The termite was placed
on the lead pencil path first, and then on the red papermate pen path to count how many seconds the
termite remained on or followed the pathway. The termite stayed on the red papermate line for a
much more significant time than on the lead pencil line. The presence of insect pheromones that

During each of five (5) trials a different Reticulitermes flavipes was used. In the course of the first
trial the termite was placed on the red papermate pen path, timing the termite with a stop watch,
the insect stayed on the path for the complete thirty seconds. Then the same termite was placed
on the pencil path, and stayed for a total of zero seconds. During the second trial a new termite
was placed on the red papermate pen line it also stayed on the path for the maximum thirty
seconds. Later the same termite was placed on the lead pencil path and reacted just like the first
termite, walked away from the pencil path. It was very odd that during the third trial the termite
did react to the lead pencil circle for 10 (ten) seconds, meaning it followed the path of the pencil
for that time. In the fourth and fifth trial the termite did the same thing as the first and second
termites they followed only the red papermate pen path and walked away from the lead pencil
circle. Results The table below shows all the results from the experiment and even some extra
information. The table displays the mean of the times the termites stayed on the pencil and
papermate circles. It also displays the amount of trials used in the experiment. |t Test: Two Sample

Education As A Core Element Of Generating Quality Human...
Sociopolitical context Education is acknowledged to be one of the seven priorities of Kazakhstan
2030 Strategy. As it is particularly stated in state policy documents, the common goal of education
reforms in Kazakhstan is to adapt the education system to global socio economic environment
(State Program on Development of Educationin the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2011 2020).
Kazakhstan is on the way of its transformation to be one of the 50 most competitive countries in the
world. To achieve this ambitious goal, the country is overhauling its educational system to be able
to produce quality human capital as it will significantly result in benefit for economy and society
(Bhuiyan, 2011). Therefore, gifted educationis considered to be a core element of generating
quality human capital; hence, a great deal of resources has been investing into education in order
to implement strategies to provide a high quality education for gifted children (Hernandez Torrano
Abisheva, 2013). There are a lot of issues beyond gifted education in terms of identifications,
perceptions, teaching methods, peculiarities and etc. Nowadays, different ways of supporting and
organizing gifted children s activities are being discussed by the majority of scholars. For instance,
according to Kazakhstani scholars (Damitov et al., 2006; Damitov et al.,2009) the importance of
practical activities, scientific and educational research is prioritized in several policy documents

War Pacifism
The question of whether war is justified or not has been debated through time. There is the side
that war is not justified since humanity ultimately gets hurt by war. The other side is that war is
justified because in it humane to have issues and the only way to solve some issues for the better
of the world is to have a war. Thomas Aquinasand George Orwell believe that people can justify
offensive warfare, but Mo Tzu is in opposition of war. War can either be seen as it is self defense
and justifiable, or that it is never justifiable to hurt one another. Thomas Aquinas wrote Summa
Theologica , a summary of theology that discusses what makes a war become justified. George
Orwell was a considered socialist and political liberal, who was also... Show more content on

The weakness of pacifism greatly outweighs the strengths of pacifism because pacifism in war
does not solve any real problems. (Topic) People have to realize that no matter what, people are
going to be in some way fighting one another. (Point) George Orwell in Pacifism and the War
wrote about how pacifism is ignorance because the idea that you can somehow remain aloof
from and superior to the struggle, while living on food which British sailors have to risk their
lives to bring you, is a bourgeois illusion bred of money and security (Orwell 509). (Evidence)
People have to be completely ignorant to be living off of what has been provided to them by
fighting, because they don t realize that they wouldn t have all they do without the wars going
on. (Explanation 1) People have to be fighting in some sort of way to obtain the freedom and
utilities for all. The world does not have an unlimited amount of what is needed, and so we must
fight for our resources. (Explanation 2) An educated person would be able to realize this and be
able to pick a side that would benefit them, because war is unavoidable and therefore justified.
George Orwell correctly describes how joining in on a war effort is better than disregarding the
responsibility that people have to solve issues. (Explanation 3) Being a pacifist does not make the
war any more justifiable, it just ignores it.

Abstract
Dissociative Disorders is the disruption in the integrated functions of consciences, memory,
identity, or perception of the environment. They are marked by a dissociation from or interruption
of a person s fundamental aspect of waking consciousness such as personal identity and one s
personal history. In this paper I will be discussing the main dissociative disorders, which are:
Dissociative Amnesia, Dissociative Fugue, Dissociative Identity Disorder, and Depersonalization
Disorder. All of the dissociative disorders are thought to stem from trauma experienced by the
individual with the disorder. (Maser, 2000) Seen in a number of other mental illnesses, including

A prevalence rate of 0.2% for Dissociative Fugue has been reported in the general population.
(Frances, 1994) Most cases described in adults are related to traumatic, stressful, or overwhelming
life events. Dissociative Identity Disorder
Dissociative Identity Disorder has been defined as multiple personality disorder. This disorder is
the presence of two or more distinct identities or personality states that take control of behavior.
Dissociative Identity Disorder reflects a failure to integrate various aspects of identity, memory, and
consciousness. (Frances, 1994) Each personality state may be experienced as if it has a distinct
personal history, self image, and identity, including a separate name. (Frances, 1994) Individuals
with this disorder have a primary identity that carries the individual s given name and is passive,
dependent, guilty, and depressed. The alternate identities frequently have different names and
characteristics that contrast with the primary identity. (Frances, 1994) Some identities may emerge

John Adams Essay
John Adams
John Adams was born on October 30, 1735, in Massachusetts Bay. He was born in a well to do
family of five. He is the eldest son and was named after his father, John Adams. Young Adams was
able to receive a proper childhood education, as his father was a deacon of the Congregational
church, as well as a lieutenant of the local militia. Despite his busy schedule, his main interest and
occupation was farming.
At 1761, Adams father passed away due to the flu epidemic. His mother remarried at 1766, but
young john did not get along with his stepfather. Young Adams was not very bright at his studies,
but through his tutor, Joseph Marsh, guidance, he was able to go to Harvard College at the age of

Another case that made Adams famous was the Boston Massacre at 1770. It was the act of
British soldiers who fired at mob of Boston citizen. As a result, five civilians were killed, including
Cripus Attucks. Upon the event, many political groups and citizens were unhappy. It was the
starting of an anti British fever. Paul Revere made an engraving that depicted captain Thomas
Preston gave the order to start firing at the defenseless crowd. To calm the situation down,
Governor Hutchinson, promised the people to imprison the captain and soldiers, and they would
also be trial upon their action. In the afternoon, the Sons of Liberty held a meeting at the Faneuil
Hall, demanding that all British should be driven out of Boston. No lawyer was brave enough to
take the case except John Adams and another young lawyer Josiah Quincy. Preston and his man
should be trial on September, but his men made a petition to the court that they wanted to be
trial together at one time. The petition was denied and on October 24, 1770, Preston was the
first to be trialed. This was the first case that was held longer than one day in Massachusetts.
Adams, leading the defense, had called for at least twenty two witnesses in one day and none of
them had heard Preston ordered his troops to start firing. On October 30, 1770, the juries had
dropped the charge on Preston. Soon, it was the soldiers trials. Witnesses said that the troops acted

Jeannie Oakes defines tracking as the process whereby students are divided into categories so
that they can be assigned in groups to various kinds of classes (3). I was placed on a high track
level for middle school that fed into a similar high track in high school. During grade five, I was
chosen to take a test that would determine my acceptance into the Gifted and Accelerated Program

students who were granted admission. According to the program s webpage, GAP is only open to

Pan s Labyrinth Themes
Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane A child s imagination is the most powerful weapon he or she can
be armed with and it is within Guillermo Del Toro s captivating and Academy Award winning
film, Pan s Labyrinth that we are presented with this concept as well as themes of existentialism
and duality. Various motifs such as; brutality, innocence, childhood and war, allow Del Toro to
construct two worlds that are all too real and very similar for one young girl. Set in Spain 1944
during a time when people are forced to choose between their beliefs and their survival, Ofelia
(Ivana Baquero) is compelled to choose her faith in fantasies over her hope in humanity. Ofelia is
in a battle of good vs. evil vs. innocence and must realize that all three cannot thrive. The opening

At this stage of the movie, the faun character is completely rejuvenated and is with Ofelia but is
fixated on opening the labyrinth s portal. The faun s transformation from old to young was done
intentionally so that Ofelia s character could be judged properly. It is much harder to say no
when temptation presents itself in a beautiful form. Ofelia s good nature and pure heart would
be revealed in this moment and this was something del Toro wanted to exemplify. Ending a film
with a child dying is disturbing however; del Toro chooses to make her death about redemption
since she regained her innocence through death (i.e. rebirth). Ofelia would be born again and
assume her role as Princess of the fantasy realm she desperately desired to be apart of. The final
shot of Ofelia mirrors the opening shot of the film but this time, blood drips down and out of her
nose while the nostalgic song plays softly, signifying the

The Neolithic Era, Or New Stone Age
AR6_SA_U1_L11_LC
Introduction and Objective
The Neolithic Era, or New Stone Age, was a period in the development of human technology.
Traditionally considered the last part of the Stone Age, the Neolithic commenced with the
beginning of farming. Metal tools became widespread, along with the use of wild and domestic
crops and of domesticated animals.
When people think of pottery, they might think of bowls and cups, of eating and drinking. But
pottery can, in fact, be art as well. During the Neolithic Era, most of this pottery was hand built.
These red, gray, and black wares often revealed a craftsmanship and beauty exceptional for their
age.
http://mrg.bz/Tt8E3p
Of course, clay isn t exactly glamorous. Once the crafting of bronze, lacquer, and precious metals
were mastered, the ritual status afforded ceramics declined. Soon after, ceramic shapes began to
imitate those of metal almost as soon as the latter appeared.
There are four main types of Neolithic pottery:
Neolithic soft ware
Djeitun ware
Ismailabad ware
Burnished gray ware
Let s explore these forms of Neolithic ceramics and how they defined the art of the time period.
Today s lesson objective is: The student will learn about Neolithic ceramics.
Take a moment to think about this objective. What learning skills will you use to achieve this
goal? Why do you think pottery was so important to the Neolithic artists? Do you think pottery is
more of a useful tool or an art form? How do you think the Cave

When I Saw Me
Walking out of the Museum of Fine Arts on a spring night in 2013, I began to think about where
my home really was. I had just left the Boston Palestine Film Festival, where the screening of
When I Saw You by the Palestinian filmmaker Annemarie Jacir had really stood out to me. The
movie was from the perspective of a young Palestinian refugee named Tarek living in a camp in
Jordan. Tarek goes on a journey to return to his home in Palestine. After watching the film, I had an
unshakeable feeling that my real home was in Palestine and felt a strong urge to return to the land
of my ancestors.
I developed a deeper connection to my Palestinian heritage after the film festival. These feelings
were confusing to me at first. There I was, living in the United States, feeling a powerful
sentimental attachment towards a land I ve never set foot in thousands of miles away. As a young
kid, having ties to so many places made it hard for me to develop a strong cultural identity. My ...

Persuasive Essay On Cod Fishing
Save the Cod, Save the Fishing Industry
Dating back to the 1600s, Cod fishing has been a major industry in the New England area, with a 5
feet long Sacred Cod hanging inside the Massachusetts State House signifying its importance.
However, fishermen are now facing an unprecedented low stock of Atlantic codin the Gulf of
Maine, directly impacting marine ecosystem as well as the annual cod landing. In November 2014,
regulators from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) were forced to
impose a temporary ban on cod fishing and discuss possible solutions. Otherwise, the extinction of
cod in the Gulf of Maine will damage the ecosystem irreversibly and the entire cod fishing industry
will collapse. Tackling the problem of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examples of forage fish include sardines, anchovies and herrings. Scientists have shown that
catching forage fish instead of cod is a more sustainable approach. According to research from the
University of British Columbia Fisheries Center, the forage fish population has more than
doubled in the past century (Christensen, 2014). A main cause for the population growth is that
human beings are overfishing forage fish s predators like cod and tuna. When overfishing of cod
occurs, herring population increases naturally due to the reduced effect of trophic cascade.
Herrings are very abundant in the Gulf of Maine and they are not overfished. Furthermore, fishing
herring and cod both use mid water trawling (NOAA, 2015), so fishermen can easily adapt to
fishing herring instead of cod, and the bycatch of other species can be significantly reduced with
modified fishing gears (Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch, 2015). However, even though
herrings are very abundant, we should only fish them sustainably. Strict regulations based on
scientific research need to be implemented in order to avoid overfishing herring, which can be
harmful to the recovery of the cod

The Production of Ammonia and Its Building Blocks
Also known as azane, ammonia is a chemical compound with one nitrogen and three hydrogen
atoms that are tightly bonded together; giving it the formula NH3. At room temperature, ammonia
exists in a gaseous state with a colourless form and a pungent smell. It boils at 33.34В°C and
ammonia used for household uses is usually a mixture of ammoniaand water. Ammonia provides the
right conditions and nutrition that are needed for the growth of terrestrial organisms. Even in
commercial products such as pharmaceuticals, ammonia is directly or indirectly a building block.
Ammonia that is used for commercial applications is called anhydrous ammonia. Since it has a
very low boiling point, the chemical should be kept at very low temperatures and pressure to
sustain its liquid form for commercial use. Some products that contain this alkaline substance can
be cleaning products or fertilizers, as ammonia is known to provide the right conditions for plants to
grow. Although the chemical has several commercial uses, it is very hazardous, even in low
concentrations and therefore it is important to handle the chemical properly. Inhaling or getting the
solution on skin can have several effects such as burning, fainting and even death. Even low
concentrations can cause damage to the human body when over exposed. Production
The natural occurrence of ammonia happens when plants, animals or organic matter decompose,
releasing ammonia into the air. Not only that, but ammonia salts can also be

Privacy Is The Appropriate Word Of Privacy From A German...
Privacy in German Culture Dignity over liberty is the appropriate phrase to depict the essence of
privacy from a German perspective. Stemming from roots dating back to the mid 12th Century,
Germans erected a common ideology of individual realization that has become a universal standard
of its people. Unlike many Western civilizations, Germans digest privacy as a personality
upholding construct, rather than an oppressive act of rights enforced by the government. Anything
that seemingly inhibits or defiles one s personal character is considered an invasion of privacy.

Analysis of Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
Analysis of В‘Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck В‘Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck is a
classic novel, tragedy, written in a social tone. The authorial attitude is idyllic, however, as the
story develops it changes into skeptic. It is evident that Steinbeck knew the setting and places he
is writing about. In my opinion Steinbeck drew the subject matter from his own experience of
working on ranches, he was interested in special kinds of relationships among men working on

Women have no place in the author s idealized vision of a world structured around the brotherly
bonds of men, because they only cause troubles. Material В– the novel takes place in California in
the 1930s. Steinbeck describes life of wage labourers without permanent home, who work on
ranches. There are also mentioned problems of the American apartheid society. The novel is told
from the point of view of a third person objective narrator. Diction and language style are
conformed to the setting of the novel. Steinbeck uses Standard English for the authorial speech, for
the direct speech he uses colloquial English, very often with slang and argot spoken among people
working on ranches. Using argot and vulgarisms helps to characterize protagonists of the novel.
Steinbeck also uses similes, metonymies and metaphors to describe countryside, places and things.
The speech of characters predominates over the authorial speech and is realized by direct speech
and dialogues. Steinbeck precisely describes places and characters. Inner characterization results

Owl Research Papers
For many people, birds are seen to either be pets or wild animals. There is a massive amount of
species when it comes to learning about birds. One of the birds that I decided to do my research
paper on is Owls. The way I describe an owl is a type of bird that has a round head and large
eyes, but there are plenty more ways to describe an owl which is the purpose of this paper. An
interesting fact about owls is that they cannot move their eyes within their sockets like we can. In
order to look around, they have to move their entire head, which has a range of movement of about
270В°. Which many people find creepy and are scared of them. Owls usually fly and hunt at night,

Foremost, we need to address how there is a couple type of species of owls in Sequoia National

The other two types of owls are the northern pygmy owl which is a small owl native to North and
Central America. There is also the western screech owl which is as well a small owl native to
North and Central America, and the females of the species are also larger than the males. In the

Beyond The Bayou
First published in 1894, Kate Chopin s short story Beyond the Bayou explores the effect that fear
and loneliness can have on one s world, along with how love and determination can prompt one to
ultimately overcome these emotions. An early childhood trauma has compelled the protagonist of
the story, a womanknown as La Folle, to choose to remain in the isolation of her cabin and the
woods surrounding it, keeping her largely separated from the rest of the world across the bayou.
Her master s house sits across the bayou, and his children revel in visiting La Folle and listening
to her stories. The protagonist is closest with the youngest of the children; Cheri. The two share
a deep bond, one that is tested towards the end of the story when Cheri accidentally stumbles and
his leg is injured by a bullet. La Folle, carrying the injured Cheri in her arms, is forced to face her
greatest fear in order to get the boy help: whether or not to cross the bayou. She is forced to
choose between maintaining her own sense of security or stepping foot beyond the bayou to save
the child she so deeply cares for.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

she chooses isolation. Opting for what she perceives as safety in her cabin in the woods. Closed

Minor workplace injuries occur daily. A simple paper cut or minor bruise can happen in almost

Essay On When Cutting Access To Health Care
Introduction The article, When Cutting Access to Health Care, There Is a Price to pay in the New
York Times and written by Eduardo Porter highlights the health crisis that is being experienced in
the United States. This has contributed to the low economies due to low productivity since the sick
people cannot work. The article states that in a research conducted by experts, the United Statesis
ranked as having the highest mortality rate (Porter, 2017). Conditions such as heart diseases,
diabetes, and infectious diseases also top in the list. Early deaths have become the norm in

There has been little progress on funding research programs that aim at necessitating on preventive
measures in preventing the chronic diseases. Most are sponsored by private organizations that
promote healthcare. Therefore, there is the need for a change in the budget to promote good health
of the citizens.
Impacts on the Possible Amendment of the Constitution I believe amending the constitution so
that it meets a balanced federal budget would bring positive effects. For instance, it would help
in solving the persistent problem of the increasing deficits and federal debt. Otherwise, the future
generation would suffer the repercussions since they would have to take part in paying the debt.
This could also limit the chances of the future policymakers to engage in corrupt malpractices
and irresponsible fiscal policies which would instead ensure that there is accountability. The
federal government would also be forced to take quick actions to respond to emergencies and
economic recessions (Brazier, et al., 2017). I also believe that the opposing parties would have to
comply with the passed legislation to meet the Constitution s requirement. However, the only set
back in my view would be the political pressure that would be exerted on the lawmakers especially
the opponents. They would be forced to gimmick the budget to meet the balanced expectation. This
would make them work because the law requires them to do so and not because of their willingness

The Major Sports at Mandelbaum are Baseball, Basketball,...
As we moved on history, depending on the period of time that we find ourselves in, a particular
sport would be important as people relate their lives into it. Mandelbaum focus on three different
sports and three different time periods, to show us their relationship. He states that, sports come to
play an important role in our lives as we are able relate and find a significance that represent and
fits our lives. This is the explanation Mandelbaum reaches when we tries to explain why Americans
had become ardent fans of sports. The three major American sports that Mandelbaum focus on are
baseball, football and basketball. This sports had been chosen for America because they embody
three major stages in American culture. Baseball represents the agrarian period, football the
industrial revolutionand basketball the new innovative and modern society.
Mandelbaum dedicates a complete chapter for each of the three sports. In each chapter he explains
the history, rules and culture as references to demonstrate the importance of each sport to the past
as well as the message they give to their fans. By analyzing the period time and the history of each
game, he correlates even that help us demonstrate the importance each game had in their
corresponding period. As well as the idea of merit, in where everyone is equal. By showing us
how people became attractive to a particular sport, Mandelbaum s ideas were becoming clearer.

Raiders of the Lost Ark 57:33 1:01:00
Uncovering the Well of Soles
I have chosen to evaluate a scene from Indiana Jones, Raiders of the Lost Ark where Indiana and
Sallah uncover the Well of Soles where the lost ark is hidden. We open the scene at 57:03 with
Indiana leading a team of diggers up a hill to the spot where they will dig for the ark. As the
scene opens we hear the diegetic sounds of the diggers and commotion taking place in the
background. We also hear non diegetic music that will be referred to as the ark theme playing as
Indiana climbs the hill and has his men start to dig for the ark. The slow and sort of creepy tone
that makes up the ark theme reminds us of the continuing quest for the ark and ... Show more

The thunder and lightning and building anticipation seem to foreshadow the discovery of the ark
yet again, which we initially think is a good thing, however, the dark and evil sounds of the storm
represent bad things will eventually come from the ark and show us that in hindsight, the ark
should not be disturbed. Anticipation continues to build as we hear more diegetic sounds of
thunder and a spooky wind howling in the background. We see a shot of Indy and see the worried
look on his face as the storm continues to approach. At 58:56 Sallah informs Indy that they hit
stone and here we see an eyeline match from Indy leading to the next shot of the uncovered stone.
As the workers continue to uncover the stone, the diegetic sounds continue. The lack of non
diegetic music emphasizes the roar of the thunder and helps the view focus on the big find that is
about to occur. As the stone is lifted and the tomb is uncovered, we hear the diegetic soundof an
animal howling in the background at 59:50. This gives the viewer a spooky feel of the tomb. At
59:55 we see and hear a stinger brought on by non diegetic music. The thunder roars with a
lightning strike which lights up the opening of the tomb which reveals a scary looking creature
with jagged teeth. As this is revealed the non diegetic music spikes and Sallah shouts from being
startled which all creates this stinger effect. The stinger

Black Diggers Play Analysis
I don t want to join in. I don t belong (Wright 96). The play follows the idea of belonging and
how those who were considered different feel that they don t belong, because they were
discriminated against, abused, called names, assaulted, named and shamed. This script has been
written in response to these atrocities, that most people had no idea about until they have read or
seen the play, Black Diggers; a play told through the eyes of the Aboriginal soldiers and what they
went through. I believe that this text, specifically the last line of the play, said by Nigel in relation

The text highlights the changing attitudes through society, shown towards the Aboriginal culture,
after life threatening events, bringing these men closer than ever before, Back in France, back in
the mud. Blokes like you shook my hand. We dragged blokes like you through the shit and
blood. We saw each other when we were like babies. Like animals. (wright 71). This text also, I
believe, has an inner meaning of morals and mateship as evident in the closing stages of the play,
where the stereotypical white soldiers are starting to get along with the archetypal black soldiers,
who we follow through the play. Following their ever changing story for a better future of equality
and understanding. This all has an origin, which starts at the very beginning of the play, showing
mateship between the Aboriginal men. As the play moves on the bold line separating the two
different cultures, ever so slightly becomes fainter until it is just a blur. The inner meaning for this
text, I see it as recognition towards difference and what is mismatched between the two cultures and
how, this divergence from the normal, is why the black culture, represented as archetypal
characters, we follow them through the play as they try to become just another face in the crowd,
no different from the white man standing next to

Existentialism in American Beauty The 1999 film, American Beauty starring Kevin Spacey and
Annette Bening, follows the existential crisis of a middle aged suburban father and husband as he
becomes attracted to one of his daughter s best friends. After developing said attraction, Spacey s
character, Lester Burnham, becomes conscientious of his life and begins making a series of
decisions and taking actions that ultimately result in his death. The angst ridden film explores not
only the alienation of its protagonist from his society, but also showcases each member of the
Burnham family as agents of materialism and loneliness in their quest to achieve real happiness.

The bleakness of Sisyphus punishment is due to its inherent meaninglessness, for despite his
efforts, the task has no purpose. This parallels to Lester s life prior to his acquisition of
responsibility. Prior to attempting to enact change in his life, the protagonist continues his
monotonous daily routine at his boring desk job, listening to the same soundtrack nightly at
dinner, and overall subservience to those around him: Both my wife and daughter think I m this
gigantic loser and they re right, I have lost something. I m not exactly sure what it is but I know

daughter s seductive best friend, to which he develops a sexual attraction. After meeting Angela,
he begins to alter his life dramatically through quitting his job, buying a car he always dreamed
of having and exercising in order to perpetuate a level of success and masculinity to the teenager.
In the final scenes of the film, when Angela finally bares her innocence and insecurity to Lester,
he finally sees true reality for the first time in the form of real emotion. In the last seconds of his
life he is able to appreciate life and feel more alive than he has throughout the entirety of the film.
He is no longer lonely and is cognizant of his purpose in life: being a father, husband, and making

Their indecisive commitment kept them in between the two sides as they would patiently wait,
aloof from the conflict, until they were either liberated by the Americans or absolutely certain that
the British would retain effective control of Nova Scotia. (qtd in Bennett pg 135) Neutrality had
many benefits including increased trade with the British forces for the Halifax merchants, as
Bennett states Material incentive and the prospect of war profits secured the vocal support and
loyalty of some Nova Scotians . (qtd in Bennett 142). Most people were heavily reliant on the
British Navy for protection and continued to supply British troops for their own benefits. (Bennett

strong military presence made it virtually impossible for any sort of active revolution. (qtd in
Wilms) Although their influence did not stretch across all of the settlements the base provided
simple trade and protection from warfare. This influenced many to stay neutral even if their
fundamental beliefs had most likely lied with the rebels. (Bennett 139)
Overall, based on multiple influences Nova Scotia decided to reside in the American Revolution

economic salvation and independent ideology. In our modern society most citizens would go to

From what we choose to eat to what we choose to wear, it has some effect on us. Every day,
millions of people willingly choose to get on the Internet. Carr even states that he has been
spending a lot of time online, searching and surfing and sometimes adding to the great databases
of the Internet over the past decade (Carr, 634). This raises the question: why would you partake
in something that you feel is lessening your ability? There is no simple answer to this question.
One may say that they need the Internet for research, but there are many other ways to research.
However, the Internet is the easiest and fastest way to research today. This much is already
known; even Carr agrees that the Internet is a godsend and that research that once required days
can be done in mere minutes (Carr, 634). This brings to the surface the want to use the Internet.
Somewhere, no matter how deep down it is, there is a piece of every single person that wants to

According to Carr, Google is attempting to create an artificial intelligence that is similar to a

Greek Philosopher Plotinus s Enneads
Delaina Storey Pope Huma 1315 February 2, 2016 Enneads 1.6 by Plotinus Summary In Volume 6
of Enneads, the Greek philosopher Plotinus gives his standpoint on what defines beauty. This
passage is noteworthy because of the way it contradicts the aesthetics of his day and age. Plotinus
begins by asking his audience to consider what beauty is. He offers the example of some things
being beautiful by the nature of the objects themselves, and something instead are beautiful by
participation, such as being virtuous (Plotinus 1). He prompts the audience to ask themselves
whether beauty is sensory since one may see or hear things they consider beautiful, what catches the
attention of someone ultimately leading to a feeling of attraction to certain things (Plotinus 1)?...

Plotinus refers to the other philosophers of his time stating, nearly everyone says that it is good
proportion of the parts to the whole, with the addition of the parts to the whole, with the addition of
good colour which produces visible beauty... and defines being beautiful as being well proportioned
and measured (Plotinus 1). Plotinus first rebuttal is, if beauty lies in being well proportioned, then
it is the parts put together properly that makes something beautiful so that the parts themselves
would not hold any beauty. He illustrates this by stating the parts will not have the property of
beauty by themselves, but will contribute to the beauty of the whole. He gives examples of simple
parts that are beautiful on their own such as, though an entire song is beautiful, one note may hold
beauty all the same (Plotinus 1). Plotinus strengthens his argument by asking where knowledge and
virtue, two beautiful things, were to fit into the common Greek aesthetic. Knowledge and virtue
cannot be of good proportion yet we still consider these beautiful, do we not (Plotinus

19 of those 168 being children. The explosion caused damage to 300 surrounding buildings.
OklahomaCity was going through a tragedy and needed guidance from a leader.
Who would be a better option to comfort the families and friends of the lost victim, than the current
president of America, Bill Clinton, who had once resided in Oklahoma himself? Oklahoma City
needed someone to soothe their pain and give them back their lost hope. Clinton uses rhetorical ...

Today our nation joins with you in grief. We mourn with you. We share your hope against hope that
some may still survive. In this statement, he is using a pathos appeal to make his audience feel one
with their nation by their shared emotions of remorse and sadness, Oklahoma is not the only state
that is grieving. America has lost many sons and daughters. By using the words grief and mourn
Clinton shows how tragic and emotional the current event is and shows that he can interpret and
understand exactly what his audience is going through. Clinton reminds them that he will be there
for them for every step of the difficult process.
Another way Clinton uses pathos is when he tries to comfort the people who have lost loved ones
by saying, You have lost too much, but you have not lost everything. Clinton lets the audience
know that they have people that will help them through this hard time and they have the nation
behind them: You have certainly not lost America, for we will stand with you for as many
tomorrows as it takes. Clinton ultimately reaches his goal of comforting his audience by using
ethos and pathos strategies throughout his speech. Clinton s next move was to give advice from
someone who had been in a similar situation. Referring to the letters he received after the bombing,
Clinton explains that one letter in particular stood out. Clinton gives words of wisdom from a

found unconstitutional. The court believed that a law enforcement officer isn t expected to
question whether every statute passed by legislation is constitutional or not (Lippman, 422).
Lastly, the court case Maryland v. Garrison, the court ruled that evidence discovered by law
enforcement officers with a warrant would be allowed in court even if officers searched out of
the area that was allowed by the warrant. In the court case, 6 law enforcement officers were given
a search warrant that allowed them to search a single apartment unit located on the third floor.
Officers began searching the third floor and saw two apartments that were open. Once officer began

The s Stone, By J.k Rowling
In, J.K Rowling s Philosopher s Stone there are a number of references to ancient mythologies. The
events, characters and creatures in the story are not purely fictional, most of them relate to ancient
mythology embedded in different cultures. According to Joseph Campbell, American mythologist,
when people think of mythology, they usually correlate it with Greek mythology. This is illustrated
through examples such as the dog Fluffy, the Philosopher s stone, magic numbers three and seven,
and also its characters, like Harry Potter, Dumbledore, Voldemort, and Hermione. According to
Campbell, myths provide direction, teaching young people about their own life and culture. To do
so J.K. Rowling s novel Philosopher s Stone, rewrites modern versions of ancient myths, therefore
they provide relatable guidance and teach young readers about their lives. The novel fulfils this
need by providing engaging action and supernatural events.
In Greek mythology a hero is usually born of a human woman and a god. Harry s mother was a
muggler (an ordinary person who is not a wizard) and his father was a wizard. The hero in Greek
myths fights monsters. Harry s ultimate quest is to fight Voldemort, the monster of the story. A
hero is known to be worshipped by any ordinary audience, and therefore Harry is known to be
famous to all as soon as he arrives at Hogwarts because of his tie to Voldemort. Harry is known as
the boy who survived to the wizard world. This is explained in the

The Bodybuilding Subculture
In addition, to become a member of the bodybuilding subculture one has to be committed to the
sport and to their body. By bodybuilding, I m referring to the drive which some call it an
obsession, for physique perfection including huge amounts of muscle mass and low levels of body
fat. Included in this description is also the drive for maximum intensity both in and out of the gym.
In bodybuildingthere has to be a desire in becoming big, goals defined by its nature should scream
to others as a way to grab people s attention and let them know that you are not normal, that is how
you become a member of this subculture. The average gym lifter has to view a bodybuilder as
peculiar when they see them squatting 500 pounds or bench pressing 300 pounds.... Show more

These groups of people who share an interest and often obsession for building muscle make it a
priority on exercising and eating a proper diet that will help them create more muscle and
transform their bodies. The majority of bodybuilders share the same mentality in a way that all
have an insatiable appetite for the perfect muscular body, one that some non bodybuilders deem
as a bizarre and even freakish art form. This group of individuals has pride in being eccentric and
different from the normal in the aspect of changing their body in order to construct and shaping
the body in a way most desire but are not motivated to make a difference in their lifestyle. As the
majority of bodybuilders spend a large amount of time in the gym exercising, because it takes time
and dedication in order to go down the path of a body transformation, something that most non
bodybuilders don t understand, they expect their bodies to change from one day to the next. And
as soon as they do not see results they give up, it takes years of practice to see results. After
everything that I have seen and learned it has made me want to become a part of the subculture,
there is so much to learn from them in building muscle and transforming the body, there is an
abundance of knowledge behind lifting a weight and knowing the proper techniques in reaching the
perfect muscle

Analysis Of Daniel Kahneman s Thinking Fast And Slow Essay
In a paper published in 2011 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers
tested the common caricature of legal realism that justice is what the judge ate for breakfast .
They studied eight parole judges in Israel over 50 days in a 10 month period, who spent their
entire days reviewing applications for parole. What they found was shocking, that the percentage
of favorable rulings dropped gradually to nearly zero within each decision session and returned
abruptly to around 65% after a break. This is illustrated in the diagram below, where dotted lines
indicate food breaks. This was after accounting for different variables and checking for alternative
explanations.
This goes to show that the human mind is limited. Even moral decisions made by highly educated
individuals cannot escape the curse of mental fatigue as shown by the Israelian judge study. The
human rationality is also often plagued by hindsight bias, the anchoring effect, the bandwagon
effect, negativity bias, amidst a whole list of cognitive biases, best illustrated in Daniel Kahneman s
Thinking Fast Slow.
If we could design a machine that can make decisions without the fallibility of human rationality,
would it then be a better idea to let the machines make decisions on our behalf, and save us from
the mistakes of our minds?
My answer is that we should not allow machines to make moral decisions on our behalf. Humans
rationality might not be perfect, but we are not irrational and

Biblical Flood Based Upon the Flood of Gilgamesh
In the middle of the nineteenth century, archaeologists unearthed twelve clay tablets. Around the
turn of the twentieth century, archaeologists finally managed to decipher the tablets written in
Akkadian, the language of ancient royalty and diplomacy. The tablets tell of the story of
Gilgamesh. (1)
The eleventh tablet tells that Gilgamesh, in his quest for immortality set out on a long journey to
look for his ancestor, Utnapishtim. Utnapishtim was already bestowed with eternal life by the
gods. Upon reaching the island of Utnapishtim s abode, Gilgamesh was told a story by his ancestor
of a great flood that once swept the world. (2) The similarity between this story and that ... Show

All that I had I loaded, of the seed of all living things. I brought into the ship my whole family and

Make room in the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch. This is how you are to make it; the
length of the ark 300 cubits, its breadth 50 cubits and height 30 cubits. Make a roof for the ark
and finish it to a cubit above, and set the door of the ark in its side; make it with the lower, second
and third decks.
Genesis 7:13 16
On the very same day Noah and his sons, Shem and Ham, and Japheth, and Noah s wife and the
three wives of his sons with them entered the ark, they and every beast...and all the cattle...and
every creeping things...and every bird...And they that entered male and female of all flesh, went

Bailouts Effect on Economy
Almost 1.2 trillion dollars were spent on bailing out the various banks in the 2008 financial
crisis. First, what bailouts are is explained. Then, the history of bailouts in the US is told.
Finally, the effects of the recent bailouts are analyzed. Because billions of dollars are spent on
bailouts, they need to be understood by the public by knowing their history and their effects on
the economy to ensure informed decisions in the future on whether or not banks should be
allowed to fail. A bailout is the process of offering money to a failing business, often in the form
of a loan, in order to prevent the consequences of that business going bankrupt. The most well
known type of bailout is when the government bails out a company but that is not the only kind
of bailout. It can be an individual bailing out a company, a company bailing out another company
or even a government bailing out another government as has been happening in Greece for a few
years. The reason that a company is bailed out is because of the Too big to fail theory which
states that some banks or other companies are so large and interconnected with the rest of the
economy that if it failed there would be disastrous effects in the rest of the economy, enough to
cause another recession or even another great depression. For example in 2008, the global financial
services firm Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy, which was the largest bankruptcy in U.S
history with over six hundred billion dollars in assets. The

During the second trial a new termite was placed on the red papermate pen line it also stayed on the path for the maximum thirty seconds. Later the same termite was placed on the lead pencil path and reacted just like the first termite, walked away from the pencil path. It was very odd that during the third trial the termite did react to the lead pencil circle for 10 (ten) seconds, meaning it followed the path of the pencil for that time. In the fourth and fifth trial the termite did the same thing as the first and second termites they followed only the red papermate pen path and walked away from the lead pencil circle. As it is particularly stated in state policy documents, the common goal of education reforms in Kazakhstan is to adapt the education system to global socio economic environment (State Program on Development of Educationin the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2011 2020). Kazakhstan is on the way of its transformation to be one of the 50 most competitive countries in the world. To achieve this ambitious goal, the country is overhauling its educational system to be able to produce quality human capital as it will significantly result in benefit for economy and society (Bhuiyan, 2011). Therefore, gifted educationis considered to be a core element of generating quality human capital; hence, a great deal of resources has been investing into education in order to implement strategies to provide a high quality education for gifted children (Hernandez Torrano Abisheva, 2013). There are a lot of issues beyond gifted education in terms of identifications, perceptions, teaching methods, peculiarities and etc. Nowadays, different ways of supporting and organizing gifted children s activities are being discussed by the majority of scholars. The other side is that war is justified because in it humane to have issues and the only way to solve some issues for the better of the world is to have a war. Thomas Aquinasand George Orwell believe that people can justify offensive warfare, but Mo Tzu is in opposition of war. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The weakness of pacifism greatly outweighs the strengths of pacifism because pacifism in war does not solve any real problems. (Topic) People have to realize that no matter what, people are going to be in some way fighting one another. (Point) George Orwell in Pacifism and the War wrote about how pacifism is ignorance because the idea that you can somehow remain aloof from and superior to the struggle, while living on food which British sailors have to risk their lives to bring you, is a bourgeois illusion bred of money and security (Orwell 509). (Evidence) People have to be completely ignorant to be living off of what has been provided to them by fighting, because they don t realize that they wouldn t have all they do without the wars going on. (Explanation 1) People have to be fighting in some sort of way to obtain the freedom and utilities for all. The world does not have an unlimited amount of what is needed, and so we must fight for our resources. (Explanation 2) An educated person would be able to realize this and be able to pick a side that would benefit them, because war is unavoidable and therefore justified. George Orwell correctly describes how joining in on a war effort is better than disregarding the responsibility that people have to solve issues. Scientists have shown that catching forage fish instead of cod is a more sustainable approach. According to research from the University of British Columbia Fisheries Center, the forage fish population has more than doubled in the past century (Christensen, 2014). A main cause for the population growth is that human beings are overfishing forage fish s predators like cod and tuna. When overfishing of cod occurs, herring population increases naturally due to the reduced effect of trophic cascade. Herrings are very abundant in the Gulf of Maine and they are not overfished. Furthermore, fishing herring and cod both use mid water trawling (NOAA, 2015), so fishermen can easily adapt to fishing herring instead of cod, and the bycatch of other species can be significantly reduced with modified fishing gears (Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch, 2015). This has contributed to the low economies due to low productivity since the sick people cannot work. Impacts on the Possible Amendment of the Constitution I believe amending the constitution so that it meets a balanced federal budget would bring positive effects. For instance, it would help in solving the persistent problem of the increasing deficits and federal debt. Otherwise, the future generation would suffer the repercussions since they would have to take part in paying the debt. This could also limit the chances of the future policymakers to engage in corrupt malpractices and irresponsible fiscal policies which would instead ensure that there is accountability. The federal government would also be forced to take quick actions to respond to emergencies and economic recessions (Brazier, et al., 2017). I also believe that the opposing parties would have to comply with the passed legislation to meet the Constitution s requirement. However, the only set back in my view would be the political pressure that would be exerted on the lawmakers especially the opponents. They would be forced to gimmick the budget to meet the balanced expectation. This would make them work because the law requires them to do so and not because of their willingness in doing ... This passage is noteworthy because of the way it contradicts the aesthetics of his day and age. Plotinus begins by asking his audience to consider what beauty is. He offers the example of some things being beautiful by the nature of the objects themselves, and something instead are beautiful by participation, such as being virtuous (Plotinus 1). He prompts the audience to ask themselves whether beauty is sensory since one may see or hear things they consider beautiful, what catches the attention of someone ultimately leading to a feeling of attraction to certain things (Plotinus 1)?... Plotinus refers to the other philosophers of his time stating, nearly everyone says that it is good proportion of the parts to the whole, with the addition of the parts to the whole, with the addition of good colour which produces visible beauty... and defines being beautiful as being well proportioned and measured (Plotinus 1). Plotinus first rebuttal is, if beauty lies in being well proportioned, then it is the parts put together properly that makes something beautiful so that the parts themselves would not hold any beauty. He illustrates this by stating the parts will not have the property of beauty by themselves, but will contribute to the beauty of the whole. He gives examples of simple parts that are beautiful on their own such as, though an entire song is beautiful, one note may hold beauty all the same (Plotinus 1). Plotinus strengthens his argument by asking where knowledge and virtue, two beautiful things, were to fit into the common Greek aesthetic. This is illustrated in the diagram below, where dotted lines indicate food breaks. This was after accounting for different variables and checking for alternative explanations. This goes to show that the human mind is limited. Even moral decisions made by highly educated individuals cannot escape the curse of mental fatigue as shown by the Israelian judge study. The human rationality is also often plagued by hindsight bias, the anchoring effect, the bandwagon effect, negativity bias, amidst a whole list of cognitive biases, best illustrated in Daniel Kahneman s Thinking Fast Slow. If we could design a machine that can make decisions without the fallibility of human rationality, would it then be a better idea to let the machines make decisions on our behalf, and save us from the mistakes of our minds? My answer is that we should not allow machines to make moral decisions on our behalf. Humans rationality might not be perfect, but we are not irrational and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Biblical Flood Based Upon the Flood of Gilgamesh In the middle of the nineteenth century, archaeologists unearthed twelve clay tablets. Around the turn of the twentieth century, archaeologists finally managed to decipher the tablets written in Akkadian, the language of ancient royalty and diplomacy. The tablets tell of the story of Gilgamesh. (1) The eleventh tablet tells that Gilgamesh, in his quest for immortality set out on a long journey to look for his ancestor, Utnapishtim. Utnapishtim was already bestowed with eternal life by the gods. Upon reaching the island of Utnapishtim s abode, Gilgamesh was told a story by his ancestor of a great flood that once swept the world. • 44. Bailouts Effect on Economy Almost 1.2 trillion dollars were spent on bailing out the various banks in the 2008 financial crisis. First, what bailouts are is explained. Then, the history of bailouts in the US is told. Finally, the effects of the recent bailouts are analyzed. Because billions of dollars are spent on bailouts, they need to be understood by the public by knowing their history and their effects on the economy to ensure informed decisions in the future on whether or not banks should be allowed to fail. A bailout is the process of offering money to a failing business, often in the form of a loan, in order to prevent the consequences of that business going bankrupt. The most well known type of bailout is when the government bails out a company but that is not the only kind of bailout. It can be an individual bailing out a company, a company bailing out another company or even a government bailing out another government as has been happening in Greece for a few years. The reason that a company is bailed out is because of the Too big to fail theory which states that some banks or other companies are so large and interconnected with the rest of the economy that if it failed there would be disastrous effects in the rest of the economy, enough to cause another recession or even another great depression. For example in 2008, the global financial services firm Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy, which was the largest bankruptcy in U.S history with over six hundred billion dollars in assets. The ...
