Beverage Industry Logistics
Designing the optimized distribution network for carbonated soft drink industry
Introduction
National and International businesses are becoming ever more dependent on logistics and supply
chain management in order to keep pace with the demands of an increasingly global economy.
This is why business leaders acknowledge that the supply chain can be a value creator and a source
of competitive advantage.
Logistics management is defined according to The Council of Supply Chain Management
Professionals (August, 2013) as Logistics management is that part of supply chain management that
plans, implements, and controls the efficient, effective forward and reverse flow and storage of

The key concept of supply chain management is to combine all parts of the supply chain (both
internal and external) of an organization.
A comprehensive definition of supply chain management is described Stock et al (2009) as:
The management of a network of relationships within a firm and between interdependent
organizations and business units consisting of material suppliers, purchasing, production facilities,
logistics, marketing, and related systems that facilitate the forward and reverse flow of materials,
services, finances and information from the original producer to final customer with the benefits of
adding value, maximizing profitability through efficiencies, and achieving customer satisfaction.
There are four broad areas mentioned by Stock et al (2009) in the above definition of Supply Chain
Management:
1.This relationship shows supplier customer relationship. All business entities are either supplier or
customer.
2.All departments with and without the organization are dependent to each other. A department
cannot survive alone within the market. Team work is essential internally and externallyin the
organization.

Technology And The Medical Industry
Abstract
Stethoscopes have been around for nearly more than 200 years. From the early modern stethoscopes
made of brass and wood, to common acoustic stethoscopes doctors use these days. Now, digital
/electronic stethoscopes have been invented in which they are advanced and has more uses than
acoustic stethoscopes. However they are much more costly than other stethoscopes and also tend to
be at a heavier weight. These digital stethoscopes provide detailed information and have many
functions to for the doctors to better analyse patients.
1. Introduction
What will the world be like if there is technology? It is definitely difficult to picture the world
without the use of technology in the daily lives of human beings. Throughout the years,
technology has advanced rapidly. For the medical industry, according to research done by
EvaluatePharma В® , the medical technology market is forecasted to reach about $440 Billion by
2018, increasing at a rate of about 4.4% each year from 2011 (MEDTECH MARKET TO
ACHIEVE GLOBAL SALES OF $440 BILLION BY 2018, 2012). An example of an equipment that
has advanced and improved is the stethoscope. The stethoscope is an equipment that is highly
associated with doctors whereby almost all doctors use them to analyse patients. The purpose of
this report is to educate the public of the new and advanced digital stethoscope that we have today.
This paper covers the history and functions of stethoscopes, as well as elaborating the merits and

Essay On Columbine Myth
Columbine the Myths and the Media It was April 20, 1999, Cops showed up at the scene to see
15 total dead and a school filled with bullets, there was no further information on the crime but
the two perpetrators Eric and Dylan. 12 students killed including one school teacher. Like most
media, there is a competition to be the first and the most viewed even if they should make up
something to grab the attention of the viewer. The whole idea behind some of these myths is that
the media is wanting the latest and greatest News so that they stay relevant and reliable. In an
article Called daily news states Giggling gunmen invade high school in a suicide mission, killing
up to 25. The idea is that big numbers lead to interest, and this example shows only 25 when it was
15 that had died including the perpetrators. Contrary to belief news article it explains that the
gunmen were giggling creating the idea that, they did it for fun or as a joke. For the victims that
have seen everything to what had happened in the school, there is a barrier to the amount of
information that they see versus what they can say. What s the first thing that comes to someone s
mind when they realize that they are being viewed by almost thousands is that this is their seven

There are some examples of these groups appearing in the media, such as goths, trench coat

understandable bad image equals a possibility and a reason to why Eric and Dylan could have
shot up the school, but even to this day, there is no actual evidence of them being under group or
cult. There is no real reason to why they did it but the majority believed at the time, that there was
the group behind this and the media was willing to become their own

Pesticides In The United States
The use of pesticides in the United States began after WWII. During this time there was no
regulation on the use of pesticides such as DDT and other chemical compounds known as
chlorinated hydrocarbons crystallized in 1962. Pesticides usage is at an astronomical 850 million
pounds a year. Pesticides are also sold for home use as well, this poses a main health concern to
the general public who are unaware of the potential hazards of selling pesticides.
Farmers dust or spray 850 million pounds of pesticides a year on food products that are
available to american consumers. Some of the similar pesticides are sold in areas of stores that
are near garden produce. These pesticides include fungicides, miticides, insecticides, rodenticides,
and herbicides. In a survey done about pesticides in grocery stores, it was to see how close the
pesticides were to fresh produce . In approximately half the stores, pesticides were located 50 feet
from the fruit and vegetable displays, and in 24 percent of the stores, pesticide displays were within
10 feet of the fruit displays. In 17.3 percent, the displays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Birds that were exposed to DDE a metabolite of DDT, were shown to cause egg shell thinning in
Peregrine Falcons and Eurasian Sparrow hawks in Great Britain (Jorge Fernandez Cornejo,
Sharon Jans and Mark Smith Review of Agricultural Economics), this instantly sparked
experimental studies. The results were that DDE was responsible for egg shell thinning and
lowered reproductive success in birds. The wildlife exposure outside of the zone using pesticides
also had seen health effects. It is clear that the pesticides have serious effects on smaller animals.
Judging by the exposure of the birds in comparison to humans when will we see health effects?
More importantly will we do anything to stop the use of pesticides and create alternatives to

Canada Is Not A Free, Country We Can Compare Brian...
Understanding what it means to be free and determining whether Canada is indeed a free
country we can compare Brian Tamanaha s four themes of liberty from On the Rule of Law to
see if Canada shares similarities with that of what Tamanaha speaks of. In On the Rule of Law
Tamanaha refers to the four themes of liberty, being political liberty, legal liberty, personal
liberty, and institutionalized perversion of liberty, which he notes as characteristics of beneficial
sacrifices that we give up as free individuals for personal security and social order. Living under
laws can limit the full extent of freedom that we may have as people, but it can also be noted,
that with no laws we are potentially a danger to ourselves and others. In modern society,
primarily democratic societies, having no laws is simply not a reality so when we do give up
our freedom, this exchange for stability must be beneficial to us and not an agreement to live
under state oppression. Observing the way Canada is formed and while we are not entirely free
living under Canadian laws, however, due to the country s incentives taken to ensure that our
basic liberties are secured it be seen that citizens indeed benefit from the sacrifices they make
limiting their freedom, yet still being free to a certain degree. 1 Analyzing Tamanaha s four themes
of liberty the first theme he mentions is political liberty which can be defined as self rule being
essentially the ability to be ourselves the

Why We Should Abortion Be Illegal
Abortion must be illegal in order to save the lives of the unborn. Nobody deserves to be killed by
cause of an unwanted pregnancy. Can you imagine a world without no babies being born? We will
have nobody to love us unconditionally . The process of an abortion leaves the woman with the
feeling of neglect and regret. Nobody should let a baby die, that s why they could give them up for
adoption. Abortionis the definition of murdering, there s many solutions and other ways out that
could help you eliminate abortion. Even though abortion is ending with innocent children s lives,
nobody actually cares how this situation is developing. A large number of countries ban abortion

EOD and LOD. Previous studies have indicated that EOD patients suffer more suicide attempts,
irritability, sadness, childhood onset anxiety disorders, neuroticism, and other atypical symptoms

MDD. Though psychological and genetic correlations have been studied, little attention has been
dedicated to the psychobiological differences between EOD and LOD in MDD.

The CIVET pipeline is used to is developed by McGill to analyze a large volume of MRI images
and other cortical metric functions (Centre, 2016). It was used to measure cortical thickness, a 3T
GE short bore MRI system and a standard quadrature head coil were used to acquire TI weighted
anatomical brain scans in the sagittal orientation. Throughout a period of 6 years, 176 MRI scans
were collected. However, after assessing the scans for wrap artifacts, gross anatomical
abnormalities, or excess movement, 30 scans failed because of having these discrepancies. Of
the remaining, five scans failed because of the lack of subject HAM D or BDI II scores and/or
age of onset information. The 141 scans that passed these requirements were processed through the
CIVET pipeline. 28 of the scans failed the CIVET pipeline, leaving a total sample size of 113 scans.
Analysis of Scientific Rigor
The study by Wanda Truong et al. describes all the controlled variables contributing to the research
s legitimacy. The process of discarding unqualified scans suggests that the experiment design has
taken standard measurements into consideration, improving the reliability of the results. In this
case, appropriate statistical data analysis, such as ANOVA, chi square tests, student t tests, and
Pearson correlations, were applied to ensure the accuracy of the findings. Furthermore, the
experiment can be replicated and

Why Do Athletes Get Paid Too Much
Too Much Stephen Curry is paid about 11.37 million dollars a year. Are your parents paid that
much money for doing their job? Probably not. So, why are athletes like Stephen Curry making
millions of dollars a year for playing a sport? Athletes are paid way too high of a salary and it is
unfair. The American population seems to value entertainment more than the people who provide,
teach, and protect us. Is that really what we want America s message to be? In general, most
athletes are drafted into their sports team under the age of twenty seven and are not fully mature
adults. These athletes are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a month, and this is a problem
because, as young people, spending money is a constant urge. Not all athletes are responsible, and
being paid so much could result in spending money on things that are harmful and dangerous, like
alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs. As a matter of fact, according to www.biography.com, Olympic

less than professional athletes due to the fact that their profession is not televised or exaggerated

battling other countries, certainly those soldiers who were televised would earn more money
solely because of the exposure of their profession. Similarly, athletes are often injured, but if they
are earning thousands of dollars per month, paying medical bills shouldn t be nearly as much of a
burden as it might be to a middle class

a developer, whether it is a software developer, website developer, etc, provides the ability to
start from scratch and build a fully functional program that is capable of performing actions that

Duty Honor Country- Douglas Macarthur
Duty, Honor, Country
And through all this welter of change and development, your mission remains fixed, determined,

This parallelism is reflected in the speech. The Army creed, Duty, Honor, Country is repeated
eight times. This speech was to a hall of men and woman who also proudly associated
themselves with the US Army. Individually duty, honor, country are strong ideographs, but
together they ring true for the corps. Duffy puts is well, After all duty is what one ordinarily
obliged to do; achieving honor for so doing exemplary performance; but to do this not for
personal recognition but for country implies altruism on who s behalf people might giver their
lives. ( 115) This is a great definition of what this creed means for the cadets. These guidelines
are utilized for maximum resonance: The probably of recalling a repeated word is about twice
the probably a unique word. (Perelman 471) However, in this case the memorability is greater
because of previous habit. Duffy Writes, advantage accrues... whereby thresholds vary inversely
with frequency of prior usage...Of all the words uttered at West Point, Duty, Honor, Country clearly
had the advantage for emphasis and resultant memorability. (119) Macarthur ends each of his main
points with the army creed. For the audience, this ties every lesson, whether it is civilian versus
army focus, the history of west point, or the pride in fighting for this nation into a strong physical
application of what a soldier should do. Macarthur takes their training and puts it into action.
Parallelism is also used in explaining the Army

Being A Palliative Care Nurse
Palliative Care
Throughout this course, I have learned new information and refreshed myself on old
information. I was also able to connect old information with caring for individuals going
through palliative or end of life care. Being a palliative care nurse can be a busy and stressful
job. The nurse needs to be fully educated on many different areas to be able to provide the best
possible care for the patients and their families. A few of the topics that we discussed were the role
of the palliative care nurse, cultural competency, pain control of those in palliative care,
communication strategies, and legal and ethical issues that may occur during the end of one s life.
Role of Professional Nurse in Palliative Care
Nurses of all areas have many different roles and responsibilities. As a palliative care nurse, their
roles can include being a consultant, educator, role model, and mentor (Matzo Sherman, 2015, p.
13). In the video Lessons On Living From The Dying An Interview With A Palliative Care Nurse
On Kirsty TV (2013), the nurse showed that it is important to educate the patient and their family,
be available for the patient in many forms such as an active listener, a shoulder to cry on, etc,
involve the family in the healthcare and the decisions that are being made, provide a calm
environment and a positive atmosphere (kick the negativity out the door immediately), and most
importantly be there with the patient during this time. Caring for these patients and

Analysis Of The Secret Life Of Bees By Sue Monk Kidd
The Secret Life Of Bees, written by Sue Monk Kidd, should be considered a classic because of
its unique way of relating the characters and the story line to the reader s emotions and to history.
In The Secret Life Of Bees and all books descriptive detail and skillful writing is crucial. The
principle reason this story is a classic is because of how Sue Monk Kidd was able to use a

Why Is Thomas Aquinas Important
In Thomas Aquinas Summa Theologica, St. Thomas enters into multiple discussions on the essence
and nature of humans, God, and everything else in between. Thomas explores questions that are
seen by others as too arduous to explore due to complicated sophistication and/or various complex
thought experiments. Nonetheless, Thomas tackles such difficulties and breaks it down in his own
style with help from others who have embarked on the same treacherous journey. With a lot of help
from Aristotle, specifically, Thomas equates many of his ideas about life to Aristotle s previous
works. Thomas even gives multiple commentaries on Aristotle s work, not something that most

The objector suggests that the law itself directs man in his actions, which to the objector, seems
to be concerned only with particular matters. It is then concluded that the law is directed to
some particular good, not the common good. Following that argument, I would explain to the
objector that particular goods are involved in striving toward a larger goal. For instance, if my
goal is to eat food, I may occupy myself with the particular medium of cooking for myself,
venturing to a restaurant, mooching off of my friend, or whatever else seems to fit the mood at
that moment. Just because the end goal is concerned with a particular doesn t mean the subject s
mindset is contained to those individual particulars. Particulars in every circumstance do in fact
strive for an end of some sort. To break this down further, let us take for example the basic law to
not kill. In the United States, the law is that people drive on the right side of the road. In other
countries, it may be on the left side. This specific law is aimed at the end of not killing, which in
turn promotes human flourishing. Thus, we can conclude that rules for driving on the opposite
sides of the road is aimed at the end of a common good. The objector is saying that laws are
concerned only with a particular matter or a particular good. Following that logic

History Of Roman Number Symbols
The history of Roman Number Symbol are represented by letters. The Roman numerbs are
represented by seven different letters are I, V, X, L, and D. Therefore, these roman letters represent
1, 5, 10, 100, and 500. Ancient Roman use these seven letters to make a lot of different numbers
and to be written of the Roman alphabet. In the Etruscans was an ancient civilization of Italy
developed their own numeral systemwith different symbols. A common theory of the origin Roman
numeral system was represented by hand signal. For example, the Roman numeral system by hand
signal was used like one, two, three and four signaled by the equivalent amount of fingers that were
used. Then, The numberfive is represented by the thumb and fingers separated, making a V shape
and The number ten is represented by either crossing the thumbs or hands, signaling an X shape

heritage and show the children more about Indian culture. The Das family is being chauffeured by
an Indian man named Mr. Kapasi who is a translator in India that learns more about himself and
the Das family on this journey. The trip turns out to be more than expected when Mrs. Das makes
a confession and her sons life is put in danger. Interpreters of Maladies has much symbology that
foreshadow many elements. This paper will review those symbols and analyze how they reflect in

The wheels are supposed to symbolize the wheel of life. They depict the cycle of creation,

Mrs. Das it shows she has not preserved herself exclusively to her husband which created a

Stand And Deliver Reflection
Stand and Deliver, is based in East Los Angeles High School that would not typically belong to high
achieving math students. However, when Mr. Escalante starts working there, things begin to
change. First off, he was supposed to teach computer science, but was told he was teaching math
when he started actually working. When he first started teaching, he was faced with many
obstacles. His first day in the classroom, there were more kids than there were desks. Even so, the
students first language also created a learning barrier. Mr. Escalante asked the students who spoke
Spanish move to the front of the class, and students who spoke English were asked to move to the
back. Throughout the basic course, and even up through his teaching of calculus, Mr. Escalante also
had to combat the students bad behavior. In the beginning of the movie, a student decided to try to
act like a thug, and threatened Mr. Escalante if he did not run the class like he wanted, the teacher
would face repercussions. When Mr. Escalante gave the student, Angel, three textbooks, Angel

Transfer Pricing--Market-Based vs. Cost-Based
Introduction
Transfer pricing is one of the key factors of a management control system, which helps a company
to achieve its goals, including profit maximization and tax minimization.
There are several methods of setting transfer prices among profit centers within the same
organization. Each profit center tries to set transfer prices which maximize their own profit. The
buying and selling profit centers profits are largely affected by transfer prices. For example, when
a high transfer price is charged, the selling division s profits increase, while the buying division s
costs increase. So, transfer pricing should be established on a reasonable and objective basis, which
should maximize the companywide profit, rather than being based on ... Show more content on

The company should consider whether the transfer pricing method has simplicity and transparency,
which provide objective performance measurements for division managers. With regard to
simplicity and transparency, it is best for the company to set market based transfer pricing because
this is more objective than cost based transfer pricing. In particular, when companies use cost based
transfer pricing, it is difficult to evaluate division performance unless the transfer prices exceed full
costs.
Generally, a company can save more money and effort through internal sales compared with
external sales, due to the absence of customer credit checking or collecting. In addition, market
based transfer prices contribute to the evaluation of the economic viability and profitability of
profit centers individually. Market based transfer pricing portrays the real market supply and
demand more clearly because, when supply exceeds demand, market prices may decrease, so
market based transfer prices decrease as well.
However, market based transfer pricing has several disadvantages. You cannot use the market
based transfer pricing method when there is no market price in the market. For example, when the
selling division makes specially customized products for the buying division, you cannot get a
market price for the products. Similarly, in the case of a pharmaceutical company selling patent
protected drugs, you cannot get an appropriate market price for

Symbolism In Monk Kidd
Monk Kidd characterizes T. Ray as a savage and a resentful widower. Before of his wife s death,
it seemed as if he was mistreating his wife, but the reason is unclear why he would be hurting
her (7). For example, while his wife is packing he comes upstairs and shakes her to stop her from
leaving him. T. Ray clearly shows the audience that he is not one to solve problems by simply
talking, but rather by physical abuse. However as the story slowly progresses, it seems as if he
loathes his daughter, Lily more than his wife. At the beginning, the reader learns how T. Ray
refuses to buy his daughter new clothes, celebrate her birthday, and creates harsh punishments when

Rosaleen seems to symbolize the civil rights movement occurring throughout the United States.
Rosaleen truly believes all African Americans should have the same rights as the average white
American. Rosaleen is also seen to be the only mother figure Lily has had after his mother s death.
Rosaleen is not afraid to stand up to T. Ray for Lily. In particular, Rosaleen bought Lily a purple
biddy that insisted on pooping wherever it wanted in the living room; therefore, T. Ray became
very upset, but Rosaleen stood up for Lily and told him at least it was not pooping all over the
house (11). Rosaleen shows that she is not afraid of anyone, no matter how tough they look and

loves Lily and treats her as if she was her daughter, possibly because she feels pity for Lily due to
the fact that Lily lost her mother and T. Ray never goes out of his way to make time for her. This
reason could also be why Rosaleen goes to Tiburon with Lily instead of staying in

Theme Of Absolute Monarchy In Julius Caesar
Famous French philosopher Voltaire once said, I would rather obey a fine lion, much stronger
than myself, than two hundred rats of my own species. . Voltaire s words relate to the idea of
Machiavellian leadership and the need for an absolute Monarchy. Both Machiavelli in The Prince
an Shakespeare in Julius Caesar argue the importance of an absolute monarchylead by a strong
leader like Voltaire s Fine Lion . The texts share similar content on what constitutes a good leader,
while stating that absolute monarchy is the most efficient form of ruling. This is thanks to the
dictatorial nature of absolute monarchies and similar renaissance values of both Machiavelli and
Shakespeare.
Machiavelli attributes the success of a nation to the effectiveness of the ruling absolute monarch.

Diversity Management As A Business Strategy

Diversity Management as a Business Strategy: A Literature Review
Emmanuel Emenike Williams
Course Name Number: GBUS 817
Instructor: Dr. Adrian Pitariu Date: December 11, 2014
Introduction
The face of business has been changing very rapidly from national to global environment over the
years through technological advancements (McFarlin Sweeney, 2013, p. 4). Emerging markets in
developing countries continue to provide tremendous business opportunities for big corporations
and multinational companies (McFarlin Sweeney, 2003, pp. 5 6). Consequently, many business
organizations have begun incorporating strategic measures in their operations to align with the
changing demands of a diverse global market. They acknowledge the fact that modern business
opportunities have grown beyond national walls. However, there is no absolute guarantee that
setting up international business ventures will automatically lead to better financial performance of
a firm. It comes with a challenge the challenge of incorporating workforce diversity and managing it
efficiently with a view to achieving steady growth in productivity, revenue and profitability.
Recognizing the enormous challenges of cultural differences and ideologies in cross national
business environments, McLauren (2009) believes that diversity management needs to be seen as
the business plan, essential to successful products and increased sales. This is essentially true in
today s global

We go to school day after day and see the same things happening. We never have the time to

this or is this what I am supposed to be doing with my life. From the moment we walk through
those school doors until we leave at the end of the day there is nothing but competition. There are
many different kinds of competition, whether it is in a sport for schoolor for who has the best
academic scores. A second in the day does not go by where there are not two students competing

Many people believe that we need to have our children competing to be the best of the best when
they are young. Therefore, giving them a head start on a great future. In Rose he says, Students
will float to the mark you set. (Rose 154) This means that if we set the mark at college, there are
kids that will compete to be the best out of their class and will strive to become the most
successful. Although we do not realize this, but by setting that mark it is giving the slackers
something to aim for even though they never seem to compete for anything. This means that by
having an environment that is willing to push even the slackers in school shows that they to can
have something to compete for in the future. The environment of students plays an important role
in helping students compete to become better. We tend to see better scores from students in
private schools rather than students in public schools, this is because students are pushed harder
in private schools and are competing to be the best because they know that if they start to fall
behind they will be left in the dust. These students become the slackers. Problems start to form
when the parents of the slackers start to shelter them and say that competing is not that important.
Young adults are smart and they see this as an opportunity to use their parents. When reading
Katherine S. Newman, The Accordion Family: Boomerang Kids, Anxious Parents, and the
Private Toll of Global Competition we find it interesting when she brings up the topic on how
Adult children are migrating home or refraining from leaving in the first place, and there they
stay for many years longer. (Newman 91) With this being said we can right away notice that there
is no motivation to become better or to even compete in the work for to be able to be living on their

New England and Southern Colonies Essay example
Both the New England colonies and the Southern colonies seemed as though they might be the
same. They both started out with the majority of people being from England, they were both in the
New World, and they were both ruled by England but, as time went on this theory was proven
wrong. The New England colonies and the Southern colonies had many common characteristics but
these two regions were very different geographically, politically, and socially. Geographically the
New England colonies were the states of Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New
Hampshire; the Southern colonies were Virginia, Maryland, South Carolina, North Carolina, and

In New England, however, because of the lack of need for labor there were very few black
slaves and everyone was relatively equal. A large difference between New England and the
Southern colonies is that when people moved to the New England regions many of them came
in communities and families. In the South because of the many individuals, there was a shortage
of women and therefore population did not grow as quickly. This expansion of cities in the New
England colonies led to the founding of primary and secondary schools for education. Harvard
College in Massachusetts was founded eighty six years before the first college in Virginia. In the
South, the few and spread out cities led to a slow development of schools and many children had
tutors instead of attending school. These two very different social structures developed the
character of the regions. As these colonies began to grow there became a need for a government
and the two regions approached this in different ways. The Southern colonies prohibited taxes
unless they were enforced by the grand assembly while New Englanders kept the right to tax
locally whenever the need came. Also, the New England colonies placed much of their emphasis on
town meetings. These meeting were attended by white males and they demonstrated the democracy
that is seen in today s United States. In the Southern colonies the people were less enthusiastic

A Patriotic Hero- The Contrast
Royall Tyler was an intelligent man, that although he wasn t specifically interested in writing
dramatic fiction, has been claimed as the first to ever create an authentic American play. His
ability to write clearly and professionally allowed the first American play to become a huge hit in
it s time and still stands as one of the best dramas to read and watch today. This is seen in a
comment made by Amanda Dollack, this play offers a fantastic glimpse into the American culture
during Tyler s time, while being universal enough to still be relevant even in our day. We can all
relate to the characters and know people in our own lives who resemble these characters (Dollack
Web.). The dramatic composition The Contrast shows the audience a detailed connection to the
historical background of early America and the influence of countries upon America and the
citizens views of such.
Ever since the making of the colonies of America, large city areas such as New York and
Massachusets were idiolized as America s industrial and fashion capitals of the U.S. As such,
influences from Great Britain and France were strong compared to other places in America. The
Contrast shows how strongly an impact other countries had on America within the cities and how
patriotism was slightly lacking. This was shown in the fashion of the ladies (Letitia and Charlotte),
contrast of a city man (Jessamy) versus a man from the country (Jonathan), and the actions and

Tips For A Successful Career
What should you do to forge a successful, gratifying career? Briefly explain each of the four
dimensions that should be considered. Where do you need to improve? What is your plan to
accomplish your improvement?
To forge a successful career you should be a specialist, a generalist, self reliant , connected and
also be able to actively manage your relationship with your organization and be able to survive and
thrive in the world.
According to the text it is said you should be a specialist and a generalist, since in your career you
do not just want to be a specialist, you want to advance up and get into higher positions in which
your responsibility increases, you will deal with more people and and understand if not all at
least more areas of the organization. To be a specialist you need to be skillful expert in a
particular valuable area which will help give the firm and the customers a more concrete and
knowledgable value. To be a generalist means to have a wide range of knowledge about diverse
areas in the organization. To be self reliant means to be autonomous and take responsibility for
your own actions. As a human who wants to grow it is our duty to go the extra mile and do what
is necessary to grow without the help of a boss or a company, we must try to be entrepreneurs and
take risk and see where we make mistakes, work hard towards improving those mistakes via

Motivation Of Professionalism And Success
Maxwell Almaguer
Professor Lace
English 101
28 February 2015
Motivation to Professionalism Student professionalism and success are required to work together
to motivate the student to be an efficient employee in the future. I am a good example of a
student in progress because I always arrive on time to my classes or work; follow any directions
from my professors or employers, and follow ethics that influence my professional behavior
towards other individuals. These ideas and ethics will benefit me in the future because it will
satisfy the requirements of employers and will assist me in to obtaining promotions.
Professionalism and success is what humans need to survive in modern society. As you read,
you will need a basic understanding of ethics and what do they propose towards professionalism.
My ethics allowed me to be a great example of student success because every day is one step
closer to my educational goals. In order to reach my educational goals, I must follow three
simple expectations; arrive on time to class and work to be prepared for assignments and tasks
provided by the professor or supervisor. When I follow my ethics, it allows me to behave
professionally and accomplish my responsibilities as they come and go. For professional behavior,
my definition for student success has now expanded beyond the achievement of goals into a larger
realization that success is interdependent and systemic. It doesn t begin and end with the individual
or even two individuals.

Manifest Destiny In Laura Ingalls Wilder s Little House On...
The level of entitlement involved in Manifest Destiny might be considered childish when boiled
down to the brass ideas around why the Americans of the nineteenth century felt promised to
connect The east coast to the west coast, but the way in which Wilder shows this infant demand for
the entire continent seems almost puritan in nature. Through the innocent perspectives of Laura
and her siblings, the reader of Laura Ingalls Wilders Little House on the Prairie, is presented with an
edited first hand response to the dogmatism of manifest destinyby means of overcoming every
obstacle ever so seamlessly and the confusion of why they are allowed to just settle the west under
new ownership.
This concept of the promised people, the American people, being blessed with God s grace of
overcoming the odds of settling in this harsh environment is basically a predetermined mentality
of inevitability set forth by the puritans that are the backbone of the society in the novel. This
entire attitude can be outlined in the catch phrase of the entire novel: All s well that ends well,
(Ingalls 24). It doesn t matter if it s a flash flood, a pack of wolves, carbon monoxide, native
americans or even wildfires, for the Ingalls, representing the western American settler culture as an
ideal whole, the odds are in their favor, despite the harsh reality of the indifferent environment.

Designing A Different Operating System
You can t know where you re going unless you know where you been, this saying rings true

time quite a bit. In this paper, I will research the start of Linux, the growth, and the future. When
thinking of computers imagine they are as big as the tallest building or stadium. While the size
of those computers posed problems, there was the one thing that made them worse: every
computer had a different operating system. Software was customized to serve a certain purpose,
and software didn t run from one system to another. This was painful for both the system
administrators and users alike. Computers were so expensive back then, and so many sacrifices
had to made even after the original big purchase just to get the users to understand how the parts
worked together. Technology at that time was not so advanced, so this was the way of life for
another decade or so. In 1969, the beginning of finding a solution to the software problem began.

French battleship, Inflexible, struck a mine close to where Bouvet had sunk earlier. Inflexible,
however, did not sink. It stayed afloat and eventually became beached. Due to the inexperience of
the men sailing the minesweepers, the constant bombardment of Ottoman artillery proved to be too
much for them. Many retreated and abandoned their ships, leaving many mines still intact.
Seventeen of the Allied ships were damaged or sunk by the time the battle had ended.
The Allies then began to plan a ground invasion of the Dardanelles and sent two submarines into
the straits. Unfortunately, they too were lost to mines. Luckily, the British submarine HMS B11
managed to enter into the strait unharmed and on December 13, 1959. It sunk the Ottoman
Battleship, MesГ»diye. It was docked at Sari Sighlar Bay and was being used as a floating
fortress by the Ottomans. The Allies also managed to use their submarines to overpower the
Ottomans in the Sea of Marmara. They were able to sink large numbers of Ottoman ships,
including, one battleship, one destroyer, five gunboats, eleven troop transports, forty four supply
ships, and 148 sailing vessels between April and December, 1915, while only losing eight
submarines themselves. This forced the Ottomans to abandon the Sea of Marmara as a trade route

Speech On Amelia Earhart
I will be talking about the importance of Amelia Earhart. I didn t know a ton about her, except
that she was the first to fly a plane across the ocean. Big whoop. After I did some research I came
to find out how actually important she was/is and how important flying that plane was. Now I
want to share that information with you. Our world needs to accept change and the fact that men
and women are equally able to make this world a better place. Women have made a great impact
on our world today, for example, Amelia Earhart. Most of our lives, we ve only heard
accomplishments that men have made but, we need to realize that women play a huge part too
and can do just as much. Just because men are cast as the dominant figures, doesn t mean the
ladies are just there on the side and Amelia Earhart proved this. Today I would like to tell you
about Amelia s early life, her accomplishments, and the impact she has on us today.
To start off, Amelia Earhart saw her first plane at a state fair when she was 10. She didn t find
planes interesting until she went to a stunt flying exhibition. On December 28, 1920, a pilot
named Frank Hawks gave her a ride that would forever change her life. After she was up in the
air, she knew she wanted to fly. She had ideas that were strong, challenging, eye opening, but she
was not going to give up. Amelia was a graduate from Hyde Park High School and then attended
Ogontz, a girl s finishing school. In the middle of her second year, she had left to

Children In Honduras Research Paper
Christopher Columbus landed on the coast of Honduras in 1502 and Spaniards began conquest of
territory in Honduras in 1525.(5) Many tribes in Honduras resisted Spanish expansion. One well
known chief who resisted the Spanish was Chief Lempira. He is well known for unifying more than
two hundred tribes of natives and organizing rebellions and uprisings.(5)
He stockpiled supplies and allied tribes on top of The Great Rock of Cerquin and fortified the area
with walls and trenches. He created what was considered at the time an impenetrable fortress. He
then gave orders to attack the Spaniards. Captain Alonso de CГЎceres gathered natives from
Guatemala and Mexico as well as all the Spaniards he could muster and stormed the rock. Cerquin
remained strong. Lempira then gave orders to set the city of Comayagua on fire, forcing the
remaining Spaniards to flee to Gracias or surrender to Lempira.(5) Desperate to get rid of Lempira
Captain Alonso de CГЎceres resorted to an act of treason. He invited the chief to a peace

Reflection/Guided Inquiry #4
1 Describe a challenge that you encountered while on your most recent co op. What skills,
knowledge and personal qualities did you use to approach it? What did you learn from it? With
what type of mindset (growth or fixed) had you approached that challenge? Having had the
experiences that you have had since then, would you approach it differently today? Why or why
not?
My manager had assigned me a challenging individual task to come up with an innovative project
idea that can solve current business problem. At first, I was blank on how to go for it, since not
having any project requirement details and user experience background. But, with the growth

I was part of the team that was developing custom ordering applications and we were always in a
phase of creating new custom ordering application with similar kind of skeleton. This gave rise to
the business problem of creating multiple individual ordering applications which requires large
number of resources, support and training which lead to a never ending loop. So, I started
thinking in terms of creating a single mobile Universal Ordering System that can fit all of the
existing applications as well as scale up to add/modify more of them on the fly. I started applying
my technical skills on understanding the business flow, database architecture and mobile
architecture of each of the applications, as well as personal skills to understand business process.
Overall, helped me to understand entire business of order management. This guided me to develope
a full proof project plan, business flow, data architecture and UI mock ups for Universal Ordering

Social Inequality Regarding Class
What has happened in America is that achievement is so important that everyone wants everyone
else to know what they have done. . . And in case you don t know, they want to tell you with a
lethal combination of houses, cars and diamonds. (Fabrikant 2005)) Inequality in the United States
is changing, and for the worse. People who are not wealthy are now competing to have the status of
wealthy, which causes the wealthy to literally get wealthier while the middle classand upper middle
class are going increasingly in debt trying to keep up with the wealthy. It has gotten somewhat
easier for people who are not wealthy to keep up with the wealthy. Godiva, the chocolate company,

. . It was frustrating to be driven away by two obs that we very much enjoyed, but a starter home
for our family would have cost over 600,000 dollars. (Fabrikant 2005) . This family was
obviously not poor, they both had two well paying jobs but still could not afford to live in this
community. This gives an unfair advantage to the wealthy because this shows that they can have
enough power to drive other people who are not as well off as them away; whether or not it is
intentional or not does not matter. It is not just wealthy people who feel the pressure to buy
expensive things; in a poll done by The New York Times, 81% of Americans feel social pressure
to buy high priced goods (2005). This was not done to just wealthy or middle class people, this
poll was to people in all social classes. This shows how even people who barely have enough
money to survive, still feel pressure to buy expensive things. This statistic is very concerning,
because since 2005 the statistic I m sure has gone up even more. The amount of importance
society places on material goods in this country is disheartening; especially when it seems that
having expensive material goods are what people think is the most important thing in life.
Sometimes people even place more emphasis on material goods then their own family! Shame has
somehow gone out the window. . . There is no incentive to exercise self control. (Fabrikant 2005) .

Dehydration Of 2-Methylcyclohexanol Lab Report
The dehydration of 2 Methylcyclohexanol was completed using an acid catalyzed dehydration
reaction between 2 Methylcyclohexanol and sulfuric acid. In this acid catalyzed dehydration
reaction, the oxygen atom is first protonated, the oxonium ion is then endothermically decomposed
into a carbocation and water, and finally the loss of a proton from an adjacent carbon atom forms
an alkene. Due to the presence of carbocation rearrangement, three products are formed as shown
below in Figure 1.
Figure 1: Acid Catalyzed Dehydration of 2 Methylcyclohexanol into 1 Methylcyclohexene, 3
Methylcyclohecene, and Methylenecyclohexane
Through an initial hydro distillation, a liquid liquid extraction, and a final hydro distillation, the
full acid catalyzed dehydration of 2 Methylcyclohexanol was completed. Using 25 mL of 2
Methylcyclohexanol, 52.021% of 1 Methylcyclohexene was recovered and 12.652% of 3
Methylcyclohexene and Methylenecyclohexane were recovered. The percent yield of these
compounds was found using Equation 1.
Infrared spectroscopy (IR) identified the final product to be 80.437% 1 Methylcyclohexene. The
dehydration of 2 Methylcyclohexanol was completed in order to further expand knowledge of lab
techniques along with exploring the mechanism behind acid catalyzed dehydration reactions.
In order to further knowledge of lab techniques along with the basic principles behind the acid
catalyzed dehydration reaction, a few questions must first be answered. There are three

The Jivaro people also known as the Shuar people are one of the indigenous people that habitat
parts of eastern Ecuador, and northern Peru. They live in small, spread out villages of
approximately 22,000 square miles throughout the Amazon forest and foothills of the Andes
mountains. The Jivaro people consist of different smaller groups of people such as Achuar,

Quechua, Shiwar, Achuar, Awajun, and Huambisa. The purpose of this study is to discern how the

Jibaros can be alluded to mean savage or rustic. Some of the Jivaro people are not far from town;
therefore, their connection to people in the towns is not rare. For years, they have traded goods,

once shurken heads was outlawed the heads started to become counterfeited for trade. There are

Music Concert Critique
The Lyrique Quintette, Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall
Leonard Bernstein stated, Music can name the unnamable and communicate the unknowable
(Wandberg, 2001, p. 16). This means that music has the power to transmit, inspire passion and
sensations that mere words will not do. As a part of the curriculum for the class Music Lecture
(MLIT 1003), it was required to attend a classical music concert in order to perceive and analyze
distinctive elements of the performance.
On Tuesday, March 31, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. the Lyrique Quintette performed three different
compositions. The first one was a piece named Le Grand Tango composed by Astor Piazzola with
arrangement for quintet for Sharretts. Secondly, they quintet performed Compass Kaleidoscope

This concert opened with Le Grand Tango by the Argentine tango composer Astor Piazzola. Some
of the most relevant aspects that I noticed of this pieces were its arrangement, tempo and mood.
Even though this piece was originally composed for piano and cello, the arrangement made for
quintet added new combination of timbers. Also, it was noticed that Le Grand Tango first section
was predominantly exalted by the rhythm. Nevertheless, the second section of the piece presented
a change of dynamic because of melancholic mood mixed with some jumps of expressivity. Finally
the last section s main attraction was the variable tempo providing a taste of excitement and
energy. The second piece analyzed was Quartet in E flat Major op.51 movement 4 by AntonГn
DvoЕ™ГЎk. Before the performers started playing, one of them gave a brief story about this
composition. There are two factors that was relevant to me. First, this composition was not
originally made for woodwind quintet; however, one composer prepared this arrangement for them
as a gift. As a second factor, the whole Quartet in E flat, Op. 51 by AntonГn DvoЕ™ГЎk presented

A Note On The Value Of Physical Contact
Humans are oriented around touch. Babies crave nurturing and nearness to their mother from
the minute they exit the womb. Something as simple as a warm embrace can wipe sorrow and
stress away. This need for physical contact is the reason why letters carry so much more value
than an email or text message. Letters are tangible: they re a piece of paper that can be stored in
a drawer or tacked up on a wall. They require time and attention to write, so they are able to
convey such an emotional closeness people who are far away. There is such a stark contrast
between dialogue and text: people are often more willing to honestly write down their feelings to
express them aloud. That is why Mark Dunn held true to the passions of his hyper literate
Nollopians by deciding write his debut novelentirely in letters; they mean something to people,
especially those who are in love.
Mittie is a prime example of this concept seeing as she keeps a box of all the letters she had
received from Amos dating back long before the alphabet began to fall apart. Reading these
letters her mother had treasured actually gave Ella a sense of comfort when she was almost
entirely alone on Nollop: I miss ewe all teeplee. I reat letters teer, sweet letters ewe wrote to Pop
warm, engaging letters Pop wrote to eww...I reat tem to gain neeted inspiration (Dunn 187). Letters,
such as the ones written by Mittie and Amos, have a way of revealing the author s personality, their
voice to put it in English terms.

Investigating The Theories Of Trace Evidence
Trace evidence can be used to link people or objects to places, other people, or other objects. This
often serves as a starting point, or lead, for a particular line of investigation (Lothridge, 2016).
Trace evidence can include a wide variety of materials, but most commonly tested are hair, fibers,
paint and glass. Other, less frequently included items are soil, cosmetics and fire debris
(Lothridge, 2016). Dr. Edmond Locard formulated the theory that Every contact leaves a trace .
This became known as Locard s exchange principle (Lothridge, 2016). Tools such as tweezers,

If the fibers are short or few in number, and if it is possible to do so, wrap the area or the entire
item containing the fibers in paper and send the whole exhibit to the Laboratory. When fibers or
threads are recovered, always send all clothing of persons from which they might have
originated to the Laboratory for comparison purposes. When a window is damaged in a burglary,
or the headlights of a hit and run case all glass should be recovered. Shoes and clothing of a
suspect or other objects contaminated with glass should be wrapped in paper and submitted to
the laboratory for examination. Glass from different locations should be kept in different
containers. All glass should be collected because there could be more than one type present.
Small glass fragments should be placed in paper bindles, then in coin envelopes, pill boxes, or
film cans which can be marked and completely sealed. Large glass fragments can be placed in
boxes. Individual pieces can be separated with cotton or tissue to prevent breakage and damaged
edges during shipment. As part of the investigation of vehicle accidents, it may be of importance
to determine whether or not a headlight or taillight was illuminated at the time the light was
broken. Recovery of the filaments is of primary importance. If recovered, it should be placed in a
paper bindle or a small pill box sealed with tape. Whether or not the large filaments are located, all

European Colonialism And European Racial Frameworks In The...
Language ideologies are rooted in the national interests of specific social or cultural groups. For
instance, nineteenth century European colonialism established a new philology to language
standardization, through codifying indigenous languages according to European literacy principles
(Kroskrity 2010). Colonialismcontributed to an evolution of racial frameworks in American
political identity, such as the construction of whiteness, which stigmatized other racebased groups in
the West (Di Leonardo 2004). Moreover, the institutionalization of standard English functioned as a
tool of oppression against minority racial groups living in the presence of American nationalists.
The imperialist cultureof Europe and America has resulted in the imposition of new language
ideologies, which consequently has led to the discrimination against minority language speakers
worldwide.
During the nineteenth century, as European interests expanded into Africa, linguists attempted to
interpret the Nguni languages spoken by indigenous populations in the south. Through their
encounters with African Khoisan clicks, European observers degraded the speech patterns to
animal sounds, rather than phonological units (Irvine Gal 2000). Furthermore, linguists perceived
clicks to be exotic and unintelligible when compared with European language practices. Therefore,
colonialists sought to reconstruct click consonants into a written form that would systematically
align with European literacy

Like most media, there is a competition to be the first and the most viewed even if they should make up something to grab the attention of the viewer. The whole idea behind some of these myths is that the media is wanting the latest and greatest News so that they stay relevant and reliable. In an article Called daily news states Giggling gunmen invade high school in a suicide mission, killing up to 25. Understanding what it means to be free and determining whether Canada is indeed a free country we can compare Brian Tamanaha s four themes of liberty from On the Rule of Law to see if Canada shares similarities with that of what Tamanaha speaks of. In On the Rule of Law Tamanaha refers to the four themes of liberty, being political liberty, legal liberty, personal liberty, and institutionalized perversion of liberty, which he notes as characteristics of beneficial sacrifices that we give up as free individuals for personal security and social order. Living under laws can limit the full extent of freedom that we may have as people, but it can also be noted, that with no laws we are potentially a danger to ourselves and others. In modern society, primarily democratic societies, having no laws is simply not a reality so when we do give up our freedom, this exchange for stability must be beneficial to us and not an agreement to live under state oppression. Throughout a period of 6 years, 176 MRI scans were collected. However, after assessing the scans for wrap artifacts, gross anatomical abnormalities, or excess movement, 30 scans failed because of having these discrepancies. Of the remaining, five scans failed because of the lack of subject HAM D or BDI II scores and/or age of onset information. The 141 scans that passed these requirements were processed through the CIVET pipeline. 28 of the scans failed the CIVET pipeline, leaving a total sample size of 113 scans. Analysis of Scientific Rigor The study by Wanda Truong et al. describes all the controlled variables contributing to the research s legitimacy. The process of discarding unqualified scans suggests that the experiment design has taken standard measurements into consideration, improving the reliability of the results. So, why are athletes like Stephen Curry making millions of dollars a year for playing a sport? Athletes are paid way too high of a salary and it is unfair. The American population seems to value entertainment more than the people who provide, teach, and protect us. Is that really what we want America s message to be? In general, most athletes are drafted into their sports team under the age of twenty seven and are not fully mature adults. These athletes are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a month, and this is a problem because, as young people, spending money is a constant urge. Not all athletes are responsible, and being paid so much could result in spending money on things that are harmful and dangerous, like alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs. It is then concluded that the law is directed to some particular good, not the common good. Following that argument, I would explain to the objector that particular goods are involved in striving toward a larger goal. For instance, if my goal is to eat food, I may occupy myself with the particular medium of cooking for myself, venturing to a restaurant, mooching off of my friend, or whatever else seems to fit the mood at that moment. Just because the end goal is concerned with a particular doesn t mean the subject s mindset is contained to those individual particulars. In the United States, the law is that people drive on the right side of the road. In other countries, it may be on the left side. This specific law is aimed at the end of not killing, which in turn promotes human flourishing. Although we do not realize this, but by setting that mark it is giving the slackers something to aim for even though they never seem to compete for anything. This means that by having an environment that is willing to push even the slackers in school shows that they to can have something to compete for in the future. The environment of students plays an important role in helping students compete to become better. We tend to see better scores from students in private schools rather than students in public schools, this is because students are pushed harder in private schools and are competing to be the best because they know that if they start to fall behind they will be left in the dust. These students become the slackers. Problems start to form when the parents of the slackers start to shelter them and say that competing is not that important. Young adults are smart and they see this as an opportunity to use their parents. When reading Katherine S. Newman, The Accordion Family: Boomerang Kids, Anxious Parents, and the Private Toll of Global Competition we find it interesting when she brings up the topic on how Adult children are migrating home or refraining from leaving in the first place, and there they stay for many years longer. (Newman 91) With this being said we can right away notice that there is no motivation to become better or to even compete in the work for to be able to be living on their ... They both started out with the majority of people being from England, they were both in the New World, and they were both ruled by England but, as time went on this theory was proven wrong. The New England colonies and the Southern colonies had many common characteristics but these two regions were very different geographically, politically, and socially. In New England, however, because of the lack of need for labor there were very few black slaves and everyone was relatively equal. A large difference between New England and the Southern colonies is that when people moved to the New England regions many of them came in communities and families. In the South because of the many individuals, there was a shortage of women and therefore population did not grow as quickly. This expansion of cities in the New England colonies led to the founding of primary and secondary schools for education. Harvard College in Massachusetts was founded eighty six years before the first college in Virginia. In the South, the few and spread out cities led to a slow development of schools and many children had tutors instead of attending school. These two very different social structures developed the character of the regions. As these colonies began to grow there became a need for a government and the two regions approached this in different ways. The Southern colonies prohibited taxes unless they were enforced by the grand assembly while New Englanders kept the right to tax locally whenever the need came. Also, the New England colonies placed much of their emphasis on town meetings. These meeting were attended by white males and they demonstrated the democracy that is seen in today s United States. In the Southern colonies the people were less enthusiastic about democracy and many of them were ruled by colonial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Patriotic Hero- The Contrast Royall Tyler was an intelligent man, that although he wasn t specifically interested in writing dramatic fiction, has been claimed as the first to ever create an authentic American play. His ability to write clearly and professionally allowed the first American play to become a huge hit in it s time and still stands as one of the best dramas to read and watch today. This is seen in a comment made by Amanda Dollack, this play offers a fantastic glimpse into the American culture during Tyler s time, while being universal enough to still be relevant even in our day. We can all relate to the characters and know people in our own lives who resemble these characters (Dollack Web.). The dramatic composition The Contrast shows the audience a detailed connection to the historical background of early America and the influence of countries upon America and the citizens views of such. Ever since the making of the colonies of America, large city areas such as New York and Massachusets were idiolized as America s industrial and fashion capitals of the U.S. As such, influences from Great Britain and France were strong compared to other places in America. The Contrast shows how strongly an impact other countries had on America within the cities and how patriotism was slightly lacking. This was shown in the fashion of the ladies (Letitia and Charlotte), contrast of a city man (Jessamy) versus a man from the country (Jonathan), and the actions and words of a man well traveled (Mr. ... The level of entitlement involved in Manifest Destiny might be considered childish when boiled down to the brass ideas around why the Americans of the nineteenth century felt promised to connect The east coast to the west coast, but the way in which Wilder shows this infant demand for the entire continent seems almost puritan in nature. Through the innocent perspectives of Laura and her siblings, the reader of Laura Ingalls Wilders Little House on the Prairie, is presented with an edited first hand response to the dogmatism of manifest destinyby means of overcoming every obstacle ever so seamlessly and the confusion of why they are allowed to just settle the west under new ownership. This concept of the promised people, the American people, being blessed with God s grace of overcoming the odds of settling in this harsh environment is basically a predetermined mentality of inevitability set forth by the puritans that are the backbone of the society in the novel. This entire attitude can be outlined in the catch phrase of the entire novel: All s well that ends well, (Ingalls 24). It doesn t matter if it s a flash flood, a pack of wolves, carbon monoxide, native americans or even wildfires, for the Ingalls, representing the western American settler culture as an ideal whole, the odds are in their favor, despite the harsh reality of the indifferent environment. When thinking of computers imagine they are as big as the tallest building or stadium. While the size of those computers posed problems, there was the one thing that made them worse: every computer had a different operating system. Software was customized to serve a certain purpose, and software didn t run from one system to another. This was painful for both the system administrators and users alike. Computers were so expensive back then, and so many sacrifices had to made even after the original big purchase just to get the users to understand how the parts worked together. • 50. A Note On The Value Of Physical Contact Humans are oriented around touch. Babies crave nurturing and nearness to their mother from the minute they exit the womb. Something as simple as a warm embrace can wipe sorrow and stress away. This need for physical contact is the reason why letters carry so much more value than an email or text message. Letters are tangible: they re a piece of paper that can be stored in a drawer or tacked up on a wall. They require time and attention to write, so they are able to convey such an emotional closeness people who are far away. There is such a stark contrast between dialogue and text: people are often more willing to honestly write down their feelings to express them aloud. That is why Mark Dunn held true to the passions of his hyper literate Nollopians by deciding write his debut novelentirely in letters; they mean something to people, especially those who are in love. Mittie is a prime example of this concept seeing as she keeps a box of all the letters she had received from Amos dating back long before the alphabet began to fall apart. Reading these letters her mother had treasured actually gave Ella a sense of comfort when she was almost entirely alone on Nollop: I miss ewe all teeplee. I reat letters teer, sweet letters ewe wrote to Pop warm, engaging letters Pop wrote to eww...I reat tem to gain neeted inspiration (Dunn 187). Letters, such as the ones written by Mittie and Amos, have a way of revealing the author s personality, their voice to put it in English terms. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At this time, successful entrepreneurs built mansion like castles on the hills. Mr. Pierce (Booge Packing Company) built a granite edifice at 29th and Jackson Streets, which was later acquired by T. Gathering potato bugs from the potato plant leaves was fun for a while, but soon developed into an obnoxious chore working under a hot summer sun. There was no pay, no child labor laws, or no appeal to the NLRB, so we soon learned a simple axiom, people worked or starved. As the 90s were elementary school years, the Longfellow School was six or eight blocks away with an intermediate valley that meant an uphill walk in either direction. All kids walked to and from school as a bus or any other conveyance was unheard of, so we used a shortcut largely over virgin ground come rain, mud, sun, snow or ice. Comparatively, today s children are unacquainted with hard facts of a semi primitive every day lifestyle, although our children walked over the hills from 37 McDonald Drive to school most of the ... • 55. Investigating The Theories Of Trace Evidence Trace evidence can be used to link people or objects to places, other people, or other objects. This often serves as a starting point, or lead, for a particular line of investigation (Lothridge, 2016). Trace evidence can include a wide variety of materials, but most commonly tested are hair, fibers, paint and glass. Other, less frequently included items are soil, cosmetics and fire debris (Lothridge, 2016). Dr. Edmond Locard formulated the theory that Every contact leaves a trace . This became known as Locard s exchange principle (Lothridge, 2016). Tools such as tweezers, tape, specialized vacuums, swabs, alternate light sources, and lasers to find and collect trace evidence. Individual pieces can be separated with cotton or tissue to prevent breakage and damaged edges during shipment. As part of the investigation of vehicle accidents, it may be of importance to determine whether or not a headlight or taillight was illuminated at the time the light was broken. Recovery of the filaments is of primary importance. If recovered, it should be placed in a paper bindle or a small pill box sealed with tape. • 56. European Colonialism And European Racial Frameworks In The... Language ideologies are rooted in the national interests of specific social or cultural groups. For instance, nineteenth century European colonialism established a new philology to language standardization, through codifying indigenous languages according to European literacy principles (Kroskrity 2010). Colonialismcontributed to an evolution of racial frameworks in American political identity, such as the construction of whiteness, which stigmatized other racebased groups in the West (Di Leonardo 2004). Moreover, the institutionalization of standard English functioned as a tool of oppression against minority racial groups living in the presence of American nationalists. The imperialist cultureof Europe and America has resulted in the imposition of new language ideologies, which consequently has led to the discrimination against minority language speakers worldwide. During the nineteenth century, as European interests expanded into Africa, linguists attempted to interpret the Nguni languages spoken by indigenous populations in the south. Through their encounters with African Khoisan clicks, European observers degraded the speech patterns to animal sounds, rather than phonological units (Irvine Gal 2000). Furthermore, linguists perceived clicks to be exotic and unintelligible when compared with European language practices. Therefore, colonialists sought to reconstruct click consonants into a written form that would systematically align with European literacy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
