Cell Phone Technology
Cell Phone Technology The cell phone technology that is ever changing by the day was scientifically
invented and born back in the early 1980 s. Science was the main key to the birth of the cell phone
which was put together by the Motorola Company who today is still making cell phones. Before the
cell phone came out the car phone was the first mobile phone which were very large and had to be
hooked up to a briefcase which supplied the power for the mobile phone. Science was the utilized to
create the cell phone and today the use of cell phones has brought literature to the palm of our hands.
With science as the foundation to the birth of the cell phone technology age has not only brought the
birth but has also brought new births of other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each tower carried the same number of frequencies and as the digital phone came in more cell towers
were being built. Eventually there would be hundreds of cell towers in each city that would be able to
handle the number of people with cell phones. Currently we are now in the 4G (4th Generation) age
and with that technology we are able to do things on cell phones that we never thought we could do 30
years ago. Over the year the technology and science of cell phone has grown faster than any other
product. The technology has driven the cell phone technology to connections around the world. It has
also connected people like no other communication device. People from around the world are now
communicating and connecting more to family, friends, and others across the country. Not only are
they talking to each other but they are also communicating now with other technology aspects that has
grown onto the cell phone age. People are now connecting through the internet using their cell phones
and people are now connecting in ways that are changing the world. The biggest technological change
in cell phones is text messaging. The cell phone eventually became more than just a radio telephone
communication device. We then started to use the cell phone to send text messages like a email
message. Businesses around the globe had a big impact on the technology that was built in cell phones
technology. Business people around the globe needed to have

High Stakes Testing Summary
The Washington Post published the story 2015 Superintendent of the Year: High stakes testing is the
fool s gold of accountability by Valerie Strauss on August 27 about one superintendent s discontent
with constant high stakes testing . Strauss was covering the story of man who was named the 2015
American Association of School Administrators National Superintendent of the Year , Philip D.
Lanoue who is the superintendent of the Clarke County School District in Georgia, which is one of the
most impecunious districts in the state. Lanoue believes that the constant pattern of standardized
testing in schools is completely different from what he refers to as actual meaningful assessment and
considers the tests to be unbeneficial for students. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All in all, the testing seems like a punishment for both the educator and the pupil just for the sake of
assessing the progress of each school as well as creating unreliable statistics for the public. I believe
Lanoue s plan of action could be very beneficial to schools across the country if they were willing to
implement his ideas, at least as an experiment to see how well it progressed in other schools. After all,
he was named superintendent of the year for a reason, and his ideas deserve the right to be further
evaluated in actual classrooms to measure the

Animal Experimentation And Animal Experiments
Imagine living inside a locked closet without any control over any aspect of your life. You can t
choose when and what you eat, how you will spend your time, whether or not you will have a partner
and children, or who that partner will be. You can t even decide when the lights go on and off.
(Cruelty to Animals in Laboratories.) This is the horrifying reality that animals used in animal
experiments have to face. Animal experimentation is the use of animals in scientific research. Animals
help scientists learn more about diseases that occur in humans and animals. Scientists also use animals
to test new treatments, medicines, surgical techniques, and more. Different animals can be used for
these experiments and the experiments can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Pew Research Center poll has found that fifty percent of United States adults oppose the use of
animals in scientific research, and the other surveys suggest that the shrinking group that does accept
animal experimentation does so because they believe it to be necessary for medical progress (What is
Animal Testing?). There are also several other claims for animal experimentation. One claim is that
there is no adequate alternative to testing on a living system, but that is a fallacy because there are
several other successful scientific methods to test on a living system. More arguments for animal
experimentation is that animals do not have rights so it is acceptable to experiment on them, religious
traditions allow for human dominion over animals, and that health organizations in the United States
endorse animal testing (Animal Testing). All of these statements claim human superiority and
rhetorically is an appeal to authority. Animals actually do have cognitive ability and feelings like
humans do, so they should be given the same ethical rights that we have. Animal rights activists use
logos and pathos to convey their side of the argument. Logos is used to prove that performing on
animals is not better than performing on animals. We could give humans microdoses of a certain
medication and get the same or more accurate results. Pathos is used with pictures of animals being

Altruism In Species
Today, the world is broken up into individual communities, where different cultures practice different
behaviors. Additionally, there are many different types of communities embedded in this world, some
of which rely on competition and individual ambition for success, and some that are more communal
and support the idea of putting the group before yourself. So why is altruism a universal behavior?
The concept of altruism in species has become one the most controversial scientific subjects since the
first hypothesis was made on species behavior. Some scientists believe that there is a genetic and
evolutionary component that drives species to behave altruistically, and others believe it is simply an
unexplainable phenomenon. Throughout the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, both Humans and these small primates practice cooperative responsibility for their
young, and this lead some scientists to believe that this cooperation was responsible for altruistic
behaviors. Therefore, a group of researchers from Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy and Great
Britain were lead by anthropologist Judith Burkart who developed a new model of group service in
which they were able to study spontaneous selfless behavior that is consistent with more types of
primates. The researcher s study was done to see if individuals from a certain primate species were
willing to provide other group members with a treat, even if that meant they would not get one. They
tested twenty four groups of fifteen different species of primates. The second part of the study tested if
4 7 year olds acted altruistically. As expected, the researchers found that the propensity to care for
others outside of your own genetically related family greatly varied between each of the primate
species. More surprisingly, both humans and callitrichid monkeys consistently provided the other
group with their treat and therefore acted the most altruistic; however, what caught the researchers
attention was that when they studied the chimpanzees, a close relative to humans, they very rarely
behaved selflessly, as did most of the other primate species like the capuchins and macaques groups,
even though they are regarded as having high cognitive skills. Before the study was conducted, the
researchers assumed that altruistic behavior demonstrated by primates could be ascribed to
characteristics they share with humans, like strong social bonds, high cognitive skills, large brains,
and high social tolerance; however, Burkart s research shows that sharing these qualities does not in
fact predict how altruistic a species will behave. Nevertheless,

Child Adoption Essay
Adoption in qualified households is a rewarding decision that all those involved in benefit from as it
provides children with hope, gives the family with the ability to cultivate relationships, and manifests
love in the most beautiful way when the process is executed honorably. Adoption is an arrangement
that establishes a devoted and lifelong legally recognized relationship between committed adoptive
parents and an adopted child. Through the adoption process, the adoptive parents make the decision to
take on all responsibility and plan to provide, to the fullest extent, all that accompanies taking a child
into their personal care. The parenting figure vows to intervene financially and emotionally in the
adopted child s safety, welfare, education, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the 2007 National Survey of Adoptive Parents study, it showed that there was a high count of
children with abusive, dangerous, or scarring backgrounds (Adoption Network). Parents that adopt
kids from this background are strengthening themselves as they are putting themselves in the place to
mend those kids broken hearts and love on them. Adoption is not classified as a a walk in the park, but
that is where there is beauty in the system. In order to better understand adoption from a parent s
perspective, adoptive parent, Erin Johnston, was interviewed to grasp a better understanding of how it
is untrue, in her case, that adoption results in failure. She said, Adopting has been wonderful to my
husband and I, since we were unable to have children on our own. We have benefitted spiritually,
mentally, and emotionally from adopting, and we would recommend it to any family considering it.
When asked her overall opinion on why children in the system should be adopted, she stated, Any
child in the system deserves the chance to make a difference in this world, and it is our job to
encourage their dreams and make it happen. There are so many parents out there that feel the same
way as Erin, so many adopted children out there that feel the same way as Erin s son, and so many
adoption agencies out there with such thankfulness to parents like Erin and her husband for what they
do. That is what can be so rewarding and fulfilling about adopting; knowing a difference is being
made and purpose is being instilled in the life of a

Coastal Resilience
The definition of coastal resilience is when a community builds a plan to be able to bounce back after
hazardous events such as flooding, hurricanes, and coastal storms. Resilience is the ability to prevent
short term events from turning into long term community disasters. In the Hampton roads area we
have experienced recurring coastal flooding, in 2013 the government said they were joining as leaders
to address these issues, but yet we still are not prepared to handle these hazardous events. There was a
debate that was trying to figure out if these climate changes are manmade, I personally do not think
that they are, I believe that the world is changing everyday and considering that we are surrounded by
water, our circumstances are inevitable.

Air To Bread Machine Analysis
1. With regard to Haber, what does the phrase air to bread machine mean? (p. xvi)
The air to bread machine refers to Haber s process of turning unusable atmospheric nitrogen into fixed
nitrogen that can be used as crop fertilizer. 2. With regard to Haber and with regard to question 1
above, to what does poison from the air refer? (p. xiii)
Poison from the air is nitrogen from the atmosphere that we are using unnaturally; fertilizers run off
into water and have ecological effects and nitrogen was used for chemical warfare in World War I. 3.

thallium. When he was appointed president of the Academy, he gave a speech in which he said the

The Dalai Lama And Chinese Anger
As I was mindlessly scrolling through my news feed, I took an extra glance at a video titled Lady
Gaga and the Dalai Lama talk kindness . Needless to say I didn t pay much attention to it. Not too long
afterwards it was announced that Lady Gaga is now banned from China because of that video. This
sparked my interest quite a bit actually and I wanted to know more. The video itself showed nothing
offensive or jaw dropping, yet still the Chinese government took the liberty of firewalling the video.
Therefore, making it legally impossible for anyone using China s web browsers to watch it and make a
legitimate opinion on the video for themselves (Chinese Anger). After doing some brief research I
learned that his holiness the Dalai Lama himself, who is to Tibetan Buddhism as the Pope is to
Catholicism, has been in exile from China since 1959. Now why would the Chinese government have
such an important religious figure such as the Dalai Lama in exile and take the time to ban someone
for simply having a publicized chat with him?
In order to have a better understanding of this situation I would need to know who the Dalai Lama is
and what his position stands for. Why China has such a negative view of the Dalai Lama, while the
rest of the world seems to respect and honor him. And why China s government would censor a video
of the Dalai Lama, despite the video content being simple, respectful, and seemingly innocent.
The Dalai Lama is a Buddhist monk believed to be a manifestation

Escape From Camp 14 Analysis
This passage makes an appearance ¾ through Blaine Hardens novel Escape from Camp 14. Blaine
Harden writes a thrilling story about Shin Dong Hyuk escape from camp 14, a north Korean labor
camp, where no other man has even had the idea of escaping from the heavily gated exit points. Shin
grew up in the Labor Camp due to the crimes that his family committed generations ago and is still
look down upon. His mother and only brother were executed for murder and stealing of food in the
camp thus resulting in a very unstable situation to grow up to. Shin is later is kidnapped into an
underground jail and spends more than 8 months without even seeing a ray of sun. Although it seem
that nothing good would come out of this miserable situation Shin was able to find the needle in the
Haystack. He meets an individual who has been locked up as well and is inspired to escape from the

Pros And Cons Of Prison Reforms
The article I chose was Inmates launch massive nationwide strike to protest modern slavery in US
prison system by Feliks Garcia from The Independent. The main conclusion of the article was that 45
years after the Attica prison riot, many of the reforms demanded still exist today, and by inmates in
about 40 prisons bonding together they wish to make a change. Within the article, the arguments
presented as to why inmates are taking such measures is that besides the evident reason to end
injustice, there now seems to be a larger possibility for reform. I choose this article because even if I
may not have any direct connection to the U.S. prison system, I wanted to know more on an issue that
I had not known previously about. Regarding the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although I do agree certain reforms need to be made to improve the living conditions of prisoners, as I
have stated, the arguments offered in this article were hindered by some instances. I feel that the first
argument had strong and credible evidence to support it, but with more information provided it would
have helped to inform a reader with no previous knowledge about the history of the issue. As for the
second argument, this one would have been much stronger with the incorporation of hard data, such as
the details of living conditions, and also if more than one side of the problem had been presented.
However, I did find the article very enlightening due to the strength of being able to inform on the
ongoing fight that little is heard about through specific examples. Moreover, I enjoyed reading it
because if there is an issue of injustice, I believe something should be done, even if it does not pertain

Lily Bart Artistic Nature
In Edith Wharton s The House of Mirth, Lily Bart is characterized by her artistic nature. She is not
only an artist, but a work of art. Lily uses her artistic temperament to enhance her beauty and attract
potential suitors. Unfortunately, this use of Lily s artistic nature is never wholly satisfying. She sees
beauty as her ticket into high society but it is what eventually causes her fall from grace as it causes
men to objectify her and women to be jealous of her. Lily is an artist with an eye for beauty. Her
pleasure in tones and textures is one of her inmost susceptibilities (10). Ever since she was a young

Lily is desperately holding onto her place in society when she goes on a cruise with the Dorsets. She is
working hard to maintain her looks. As Mrs. Fisher says, [Lily] looks ten years younger I never saw
her so handsome (146). Mrs. Fisher also remarks on how the Crown Princess is very partial to Lily s
good looks and charm. However, her skill at the art of beauty ruins her life because it causes men to be
aggressive and women to be jealous. This ignites scandalous rumors of Lily having affairs. The most
fatal of these rumors is started by Bertha Dorset when she accuses Lily of having an affair with
George Dorset. This is a devastating blow for Lily her whole reputation is ruined. These rumors are
believable because, if given the chance, George would love to have an affair with Lily. In fact, Bertha
wanted Lily to join the Dorsets on their cruise because she knew how attracted George was to Lily and
she needed a distraction from her own affair with Ned Silverton. But once Bertha s affair was
unmasked, Lily was no longer considered useful, and therefore disposed of. According to Louis
Auchincloss, Lily s beauty is the light in which each of her different groups would like to shine, but
when they find that it illuminates their ugliness they want to put it out. Once Bertha unleashes her
jealousy (coupled with her influence and money) on Lily, no amount of artistry can help Lily regain
her footing in society. As she says to Seldon, What can one do when one finds that one only fits into
one hole? One must get back to it or be thrown into the rubbish heap (240) Lily cannot get back to it
because Bertha s unconquerable social influence has blocked her out of high society for good. Lily is

Reflection Paper On Christmas Angels
Christmas Angels Christmas in the Chapel has been a huge staple in my childhood, and every year, I
ve looked forward to seeing the signing angels from my church Jefferson Street of from Lincoln
Christian Church. In January 2015, I was able to join their group, Praise Handmade, and entered the
Heavenlies , as we call it, that December. Our Head Angel , Angela, and three other girls, Rebecca,
Bethany, and Erin, were in my first group for two years, and they had done it before. I was new to all
of this, and I was the youngest and the smallest (I was 11 my first year); being afraid of heights did not
help at all.
The platform we were on was the highest part on the stage, and there was was nothing to keep us from
falling; the stage is about 15 feet into the air. During my first rehearsal on the stage, my skin turned as
pale as a ghost and my body was as still as a statue; I was completely petrified. When the song was
over, I moved to a lower level of the stage to calm down. One of the angels (I don t remember who)
asked me, Are you okay?
I told them I was fine, though I was still trembling a little bit from fear. How was I supposed to do it in
front of several people if I couldn t even rehearse up there without having a panic attack? Thankfully, I
soon got used to the height, though the first time up there every year still makes my heart pound; I
think it does for everyone. For my third year, I was able to look up for our last sign for the very first
time.

cruel and unnecessary. In the article Vivisection is Right, but it is Nasty and We must be Brave
Enough to Admit This , Michael Hanlon claims vivisection is a moral necessity that without the use of

Animal experiments are not a moral necessity to allow human to discover cures for disease, like
cancer or acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). In fact, the genetic composition of animals
is completely different from human, and there might be catastrophic results if a medication is given to
a human being, even if the medication is tested safe in animals. In other words, animals exhibit a
different genetic and physiology than human beings and when drugs, like HIV vaccines, are tested on
animals the effect of the medication may translate differently in the human body. For instance, Hanlon
gives an example of animal experimentation in which the Cardiff University done by sewing thirty
one kittens eyelids shut to study the effects of lazy eye in children (1). However, the British Union of
the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) argues against Hanlon s claim that cat brains and cat vision are
fundamentally different to human and it is hard to see how anything useful can be gained by the
research (Hanlon 1), and experiments like sewing kittens eyelids together to study amblyopia have
been done many years ago, and yet no cure has been found (Hanlon 1). Hanlon claim that many
surgical procedures would be impossible without operating on animals in the laboratory, and fears that
without animal experimentation, people would be used as guinea pigs instead (2). By focusing on
surgical procedures done on animals, Hanlon overlooks the deeper

Rene Descarte s Argument Essay
Rene Descartes was a French philosopher in the 17th century. Descartes was not pleased with what
philosophy was based on in during this time in history. He took it upon himself to raise questions in
the world of philosophy. He questioned well known beliefs and beliefs held by many, not just
philosophers. In his meditations, he explains his process of emptying his mind and starting completely
over. In this paper, I am going to evaluate and question his thoughts on philosophy, use his writing to
raise questions about my own beliefs, and compare his thoughts to my own. Descartes begins his
essay by explaining what he is doing and why he is doing it. He says that his whole life has been built
on lies so he decides to clear his mind of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He argues that this is different from normal thought because one can think of something without it
being present. He uses the example of the chiligon by saying that he can think of this many sided
shape, but he cannot form a picture (or image) of it in his mind. Descartes argues that one uses effort
when they are imagining, but not while thinking. He also says that imagination is not a necessity for
being; that he could go on without it. One does not need imagination to exist, Descartes believes.
Descartes thinks that thought is the mind turning on, or arguing against, its own ideas, and that when
imagining things, the mind turns its attention to one s body. From these statements and conclusions,
Descartes makes his final conclusion by saying people cannot imagine things without the existence of
their body. He tells readers that this might be only a chance. At this point he cannot say for sure if the
body exists. He then goes on to interpret and think through the uses of senses and decides if they
deceive him. He wonders if they deceive him of the existence of material objects existing. He says that
this cannot be so though, because they come from God, and again, God is not a deceiver. I object to
the first argument that we discussed. Descartes cogito beliefs. I understand where he is coming

for peer to peer money transfer and other apps allow users to have contactless payment at checkout.
These apps contain very personal and accessible information, yet there is little to no concern for the
security of this valuable information. This paper will access the current security risks and
vulnerabilities of mobile payment applications and what users should be doing to protect themselves.
This is important to the cyber security body of knowledge because thieves will use the vulnerabilities
of the apps to steal personal information. It then falls into the hands of cyber security specialist to
protect and educate users to decrease crime.
Introduction
Payment processes have evolved from the traditional cash or cards to innovative electronic wallets on
smartphones. Consumers are accepting this new form of convenient payment and imputing all of their
personal data including their full name and credit card information onto apps such as Apple Pay,
Samsung Pay, Pay Pal, etc. These apps are available on both the Apple Store and Google Play and
have their own way of using various forms of mobile payment. According to forecasted reports,
mobile payment volume will bring in $503 million by 2020 compared to the current $75 billion this
year (Bakker, 2016). As always, with new technologies come new challenges and risks. Mobile
payment apps are not an exception. Due to the

Descriptive Essay About Jazz
It was a sweltering 90 degrees on that summer day. Sheet music was strewn all over the floor. The fan
behind me whirred as I browsed the internet for new music. I was frustrated with the progress I had
made over the past couple of months in my quest to learn the art of playing jazz. This new form of
music puzzled me; after analyzing chord progression after chord progression, I felt like I hadn t
progressed since I started. My fanatical obsession with jazz started just as the school year was ending.
I had already been in my middle school s jazz ensemble for some time now, but all we played were
monotonous blues charts where my fellow bandmates and I would haphazardly attempt to improvise
over a pentatonic scale. My band director brought in her vinyl copy of Miles Davis landmark 1959
album, Kind of Blue as part of our weekly listening test. It transformed my understanding of jazz.
Before then the only jazz I knew was Chuck Mangione and David Benoit tunes my mom had put on
while cooking or driving. The haunting melodies of So What and Blue in Green were a complete
divergence from what were been playing throughout the school year. What I had witnessed was not
dance music, but an image of a smokey downtown jazz bar painted by Davis himself. And while the
rest of the ensemble passed it off as old man music , I wondered, how do I sound like that? And thus
began my investigation of jazz that day. I traded in my classical Rubank Intermediate Technique for

Ralph Waldo Emerson and Paolo Freire s Visions of...
Ralph Waldo Emerson and Paolo Freire s Visions of Traditional Methods of Education
#65279;Paulo Freire and Ralph Waldo Emerson share a similar vision in regards to traditional
methods of education. A main common view is that both writers feel that the current education system
in most places does not allow for people to reach their full capacity. Freire and Emerson share many
other ideas regarding education such as their view of practice and theory and of free thinking. Their
works are among the most thought evoking.
In ?The American Scholar? Emerson places a strong emphasis on the role of books in education and
their usage of conveying ideas. He states that, ?Books are the best things, well used; abused, among

There is indeed a difference between strictly learning theory and learning theory through practice. The
theory or ideas can be deposited in a person?s head and he or she is to put into action the unrefined
concepts. Freire is opposed to this ?Banking theory? (p. 357) because he feels that it is inhibiting to
the mind. In his mind, problem posing theory is the proper route, due to the fact that it actively
engages a person?s own ideas and personal thoughts and makes him analyze and question reality.
Freire classifies standard systems of education to be a banking system. This label is used in a literal
sense, in that Freire feels that a human brain is like a vault. In the banking system teachers deposit
information in the student and it is to be expected that the student will retain the information until a
withdrawal is requested, at which point the information will be regurgitated back in the same form that
it was put in, without any processing of the information. This idea assumes many things about the
teacher student relationship. Among these assumptions are that: the student begins education with a
clean slate, the teacher knows best or knows all and that the student has nothing to contribute to his
own education because he or she knows nothing. One other assumption in the banking system is that a
person is not considered to be a conscious being that interacts with others; he is considered to be a
spectator, not someone who is able to make

How Childhood Is The Most Influential Stage Of Life
Some say that childhood is the most influential stage of life, the stage that shapes the future for that
child into how they will develop into adulthood. With this in mind, we are always watching what our
children are learning, and providing them with the building blocks that will help them grow up into a
good person someday, we watch and guide them, being careful they are not exposed to some things
too early and others not too late. Take fairy tales for example. Kids today know all the fairy tales, or at
least most of them. But they only know what we let them see, which, in most cases is the revised
Disney version of fairy tales that always have a happy ending and are therefore deemed appropriate
for young children. However now some are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This name came from her appearance, as she was always covered in dust and dirt from sleeping in the
ashes by the fire (Grimm 1).Although the main abuse that is depicted in this story is attributed to
Cinderella, the stepsisters are also abused by their mother. When the prince urges them to try on the
shoe, each of their feet did not fit. For one her toes did not fit, and so her mother told her to cut off her
big toe in order to make it fit. As for the other, her heel was too large and therefore she was told to cut
a piece of her heel off. And to both girls she had used the same phrase; Cut off [a piece of your
heel/your toe]. When you are queen you will no longer have to go on foot. (Grimm 4) which shows
how she encouraged the girls to mutilate themselves. This in an of itself is terrible and in the end it
didn t even work. Aside from the amount of abuse that is depicted in this story, it also paints a
negative picture of what having a stepfamily is like. Children tend to try and apply what they learn to
their lives, and if they get this idea of stepfamily treating others badly, it may affect them in the future,
should they ever become a part of one. They may make assumptions about them from what they have
learned, thus affecting their relationship with their stepparent or stepsibling(s). Another aspect of
Cinderella that is most known about is her leaving behind her glass

The Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) Act
Introduction: ... The era of low standards and false profits is over; no boardroom in America is above
or beyond the law. (Bumiller) By way of landslide votes in both the U.S. House of Representatives
and the U.S. Senate, in July of 2002, the Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) act was approved. To understand the
cause and effect of this landmark legislation, the SOX act warrants exploration of the events leading to
its creation, the details of the act itself, and the impacts on responsibilities to both firms management
teams and their auditors. While the implementation of Sarbanes Oxley has been positive for investors,
company managers and auditors, specifically, are bearing the burden of complying with SOX through
significantly greater responsibilities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Andersen s reputation was so tarnished from the revelations of the conspiracy that no public company
would have Arthur Andersen as an auditor. Andersen s practice was disbanded and has now become
defunct with only a handful of employees still working for the firm as they continue to wind down the
business. In July of 2002, not long after the exposure of the Enron accounting fraud and bankruptcy,
WorldCom Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. WorldCom Inc. admitted that the company
had fraudulently misclassified over $3.8 billion in payments for line costs as capital expenditures
rather than current expenses (Beresford). The company s executives perpetrated this fraud, grossly
overstating revenues by improperly transferring billions of dollars in line cost expenses to asset
accounts over a number of years. These transfers reduced WorldCom s reported line costs and
increased pre tax income by $7 billion overall (Beresford). These two disgraceful accounting frauds
by senior and executive managers at Enron and WorldCom, as well as similar events that took place at
other public companies in the early to mid 2000s and the Arthur Andersen conspiracy were the genesis
for the call of accounting reforms and auditor independence that would ultimately become the

The Hour Of Reckoning Analysis
The Hour of Reckoning
In the chapter The Hour of Reckoning from Let the Trumpet Sound: The Life of Martin Luther King,
Jr., author Stephen B. Oates goes into great detail on King s view of the Vietnam War that occurred in
1967, which led into his probable presidency. On the evening of April 04, 1967, Martin Luther King,
Jr. delivered a speech to a crowd of 3,000 at Riverside Church in New York that spoke against the war
in Vietnam. He called the war immoral and felt as if he couldn t continue to remain silent because as a
believer of non violence, he couldn t undertake equal rights and peace amongst humanity, when the
government thought violence was the answer in Vietnam. Due to King being anti war, his relationship
with the president at the time, Lyndon Johnson had ended. After his speech it caused uproar in the
United States and Martin Luther King, Jr. then became known as the most hated man in the nation,
regardless of his nonviolence approach. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After King s image was tarnished with help of President Johnson, the NAACP tried to save his image
by making statements on his behalf to make the people understand his stance on the war. It was after

graduate student stopped him in his path and pleaded that he was the most important man and
politically, he was the most meaningful that could possibly bring change to the people. Although he
saw there was no ending of war in sight and his want to defeat President Johnson in the election, he

Farenheit 451 and Today s Society, an Analogy
Dorothea Brande said, There are seeds of self destruction in all of us that will bear only unhappiness if
allowed to grow. Today s society is mainly focused on technology, in being approved by others, and
other things that without doubt lead it to destruction and failure. Most people in our society think of
themselves as happy, yet it is the complete opposite. Humans these days are simply miserable and torn
between work, technology and many other things that separate them from true happiness. Too much
technology has consumed people s brains and most of the times makes them lose the capability to
think for themselves, communicate with others and it also leads to laziness. The lack of family
relationship and communication has ruined most families and has redefined the traditions and the
meaning of a family. Too much conformity has redefined what is acceptable for people to do and not
do just to be accepted. Just like the society in Fahrenheit 451, today s society is equally self
destructive. Exactly like the novel, our society has focused too much on technology. Technology has
affected the way our society is educated and learns. In school most children do not take time to think
for themselves when it come to things such as reading and understanding concepts. The students know
that with a click of a bottom they can get the answers to anything. They learn less and less each time
and depend more and more on technology and the internet to be able to succeed in life and in

Husband and wife and the blind man are settling down, having a little bit of small talk and enjoying
each other s company over some drinks. I remembered having read somewhere that the blind didn t

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night Dylan Thomas Analysis

Introduction to Literature
17 July 2015
Poetry Essay
Response to Death When someone is close to their deathbed, he/she often ask themselves similar
questions. Have I lived my life to the fullest? Am I ready to go on? Do I have any regrets? Other
people who care about us probably ask the same questions, but answer them selfishly to convince us
to stay or to fight. Ultimately it is up to the person on their deathbed to answer these questions
regardless of what their family and friends wish. Emily Dickinson, Dylan Thomas, and William Carlos
Williams have all written poems about death, but with varying points of view. Dickinson writes about
the acceptance of death, while Thomas writes about the fight for life, but it is ... Show more content on

As the narrator begs his father to fight to stay alive, he brings up example after example of various
people who do not give up on their deathbeds. He compares these examples to his father to show how
he feels and how he looks up to his father. He first describes how wise men at their end know dark is
right, // Because their words had forked no lightning they // Do not go gentle into that good night
(Thomas 4). These men understand that death is natural, but they have not made their mark in the
world yet and thus try to fight death until they have. His second example is essentially the same, but
with good men instead. His third example is about Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, //
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way (Thomas 10). These are the men who took life for
granted and do not realize how unfulfilled their lives are until they are on their deathbeds. All of these
examples are the son s way of pleading with his father to hold on. His final example asks his father to
try and be happy. He says, Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight // Blind eyes could
blaze like meteors and be gay (Thomas 13). He is trying to encourage his father and tell him that being
blind is not a good enough reason to simply give up on life and wait for death. His last words to his
father are quite moving as he says, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray, // Do not go
gentle into that good night. // Rage, rage against the dying of the light (Thomas 17). The son does not
care if his father curses or blesses him so long as he fights to live and does not give up. In a way, he is
behaving quite selfishly because it is not his life to dictate, but at the same time, it is a clear depiction
of how frightening death is for everyone, regardless of your

Sexism In Afghanistan
Over a decade of Western intervention in Afghanistan has opened the door for modernity but, cultural
change is rarely linear. The history of Afghanistan through a feminist perspective truly indicates this
non linear progress. Kevin Seiff wrote, Afghan women caught between modernity, tradition for The
Washington Post. This article recounts the narrative of Farima; a young fiancée who sought to escape
her arranged marriage. Seiff begins the article with Farima s attempt to escape her marital fate, Just
before she leapt from her roof into the streets of Kabul, Farima thought of the wedding that would
never happen and the man she would never marry {Seiff}. Farima saw suicide as the only way to
escape tradition. The article discusses the fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Separation of religion from state, banning burqas, and raising the minimum age of marriage were part
of the reforms that the PDPA implemented. Images from the 1970s depict young women walking to or
from school sporting mini skirts and loose hair. These vintage pictures dramatically contrast pictures
from modern Afghanistan, depicting women completely covered, head to toe in plain, blue textiles.
The burqa was uncommon until the Taliban took over the country as a result of the Soviet Union
toppling the nation s government, leading to civil conflict. The Taliban s re establishment of more
Sharia Law resulted in the devolution of the culturally progressive legislature that was part of both
President Daoud and the PDPA s respective agendas. It is common to analyze the cultural struggle
between modernity and tradition through a western feminist lens that greatly relies on the
juxtaposition of women before and after the establishment of the Taliban in Afghanistan. Gender is
one way to look at the difference in culture, but another perspective is sexuality. Homosexuality in
Muslim majority countries has, throughout history, been a volatile

  • 2. Cell Phone Technology Cell Phone Technology The cell phone technology that is ever changing by the day was scientifically invented and born back in the early 1980 s. Science was the main key to the birth of the cell phone which was put together by the Motorola Company who today is still making cell phones. Before the cell phone came out the car phone was the first mobile phone which were very large and had to be hooked up to a briefcase which supplied the power for the mobile phone. Science was the utilized to create the cell phone and today the use of cell phones has brought literature to the palm of our hands. With science as the foundation to the birth of the cell phone technology age has not only brought the birth but has also brought new births of other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each tower carried the same number of frequencies and as the digital phone came in more cell towers were being built. Eventually there would be hundreds of cell towers in each city that would be able to handle the number of people with cell phones. Currently we are now in the 4G (4th Generation) age and with that technology we are able to do things on cell phones that we never thought we could do 30 years ago. Over the year the technology and science of cell phone has grown faster than any other product. The technology has driven the cell phone technology to connections around the world. It has also connected people like no other communication device. People from around the world are now communicating and connecting more to family, friends, and others across the country. Not only are they talking to each other but they are also communicating now with other technology aspects that has grown onto the cell phone age. People are now connecting through the internet using their cell phones and people are now connecting in ways that are changing the world. The biggest technological change in cell phones is text messaging. The cell phone eventually became more than just a radio telephone communication device. We then started to use the cell phone to send text messages like a email message. Businesses around the globe had a big impact on the technology that was built in cell phones technology. • 3. High Stakes Testing Summary The Washington Post published the story 2015 Superintendent of the Year: High stakes testing is the fool s gold of accountability by Valerie Strauss on August 27 about one superintendent s discontent with constant high stakes testing . Strauss was covering the story of man who was named the 2015 American Association of School Administrators National Superintendent of the Year , Philip D. Lanoue who is the superintendent of the Clarke County School District in Georgia, which is one of the most impecunious districts in the state. Lanoue believes that the constant pattern of standardized testing in schools is completely different from what he refers to as actual meaningful assessment and considers the tests to be unbeneficial for students. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All in all, the testing seems like a punishment for both the educator and the pupil just for the sake of assessing the progress of each school as well as creating unreliable statistics for the public. I believe Lanoue s plan of action could be very beneficial to schools across the country if they were willing to implement his ideas, at least as an experiment to see how well it progressed in other schools. After all, he was named superintendent of the year for a reason, and his ideas deserve the right to be further evaluated in actual classrooms to measure the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Animal Experimentation And Animal Experiments Imagine living inside a locked closet without any control over any aspect of your life. You can t choose when and what you eat, how you will spend your time, whether or not you will have a partner and children, or who that partner will be. You can t even decide when the lights go on and off. (Cruelty to Animals in Laboratories.) This is the horrifying reality that animals used in animal experiments have to face. Animal experimentation is the use of animals in scientific research. Animals help scientists learn more about diseases that occur in humans and animals. Scientists also use animals to test new treatments, medicines, surgical techniques, and more. Different animals can be used for these experiments and the experiments can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Pew Research Center poll has found that fifty percent of United States adults oppose the use of animals in scientific research, and the other surveys suggest that the shrinking group that does accept animal experimentation does so because they believe it to be necessary for medical progress (What is Animal Testing?). There are also several other claims for animal experimentation. One claim is that there is no adequate alternative to testing on a living system, but that is a fallacy because there are several other successful scientific methods to test on a living system. More arguments for animal experimentation is that animals do not have rights so it is acceptable to experiment on them, religious traditions allow for human dominion over animals, and that health organizations in the United States endorse animal testing (Animal Testing). All of these statements claim human superiority and rhetorically is an appeal to authority. Animals actually do have cognitive ability and feelings like humans do, so they should be given the same ethical rights that we have. Animal rights activists use logos and pathos to convey their side of the argument. Logos is used to prove that performing on animals is not better than performing on animals. We could give humans microdoses of a certain medication and get the same or more accurate results. Pathos is used with pictures of animals being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Altruism In Species Today, the world is broken up into individual communities, where different cultures practice different behaviors. Additionally, there are many different types of communities embedded in this world, some of which rely on competition and individual ambition for success, and some that are more communal and support the idea of putting the group before yourself. So why is altruism a universal behavior? The concept of altruism in species has become one the most controversial scientific subjects since the first hypothesis was made on species behavior. Some scientists believe that there is a genetic and evolutionary component that drives species to behave altruistically, and others believe it is simply an unexplainable phenomenon. Throughout the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, both Humans and these small primates practice cooperative responsibility for their young, and this lead some scientists to believe that this cooperation was responsible for altruistic behaviors. Therefore, a group of researchers from Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy and Great Britain were lead by anthropologist Judith Burkart who developed a new model of group service in which they were able to study spontaneous selfless behavior that is consistent with more types of primates. The researcher s study was done to see if individuals from a certain primate species were willing to provide other group members with a treat, even if that meant they would not get one. They tested twenty four groups of fifteen different species of primates. The second part of the study tested if 4 7 year olds acted altruistically. As expected, the researchers found that the propensity to care for others outside of your own genetically related family greatly varied between each of the primate species. More surprisingly, both humans and callitrichid monkeys consistently provided the other group with their treat and therefore acted the most altruistic; however, what caught the researchers attention was that when they studied the chimpanzees, a close relative to humans, they very rarely behaved selflessly, as did most of the other primate species like the capuchins and macaques groups, even though they are regarded as having high cognitive skills. Before the study was conducted, the researchers assumed that altruistic behavior demonstrated by primates could be ascribed to characteristics they share with humans, like strong social bonds, high cognitive skills, large brains, and high social tolerance; however, Burkart s research shows that sharing these qualities does not in fact predict how altruistic a species will behave. Nevertheless, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Child Adoption Essay Adoption in qualified households is a rewarding decision that all those involved in benefit from as it provides children with hope, gives the family with the ability to cultivate relationships, and manifests love in the most beautiful way when the process is executed honorably. Adoption is an arrangement that establishes a devoted and lifelong legally recognized relationship between committed adoptive parents and an adopted child. Through the adoption process, the adoptive parents make the decision to take on all responsibility and plan to provide, to the fullest extent, all that accompanies taking a child into their personal care. The parenting figure vows to intervene financially and emotionally in the adopted child s safety, welfare, education, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the 2007 National Survey of Adoptive Parents study, it showed that there was a high count of children with abusive, dangerous, or scarring backgrounds (Adoption Network). Parents that adopt kids from this background are strengthening themselves as they are putting themselves in the place to mend those kids broken hearts and love on them. Adoption is not classified as a a walk in the park, but that is where there is beauty in the system. In order to better understand adoption from a parent s perspective, adoptive parent, Erin Johnston, was interviewed to grasp a better understanding of how it is untrue, in her case, that adoption results in failure. She said, Adopting has been wonderful to my husband and I, since we were unable to have children on our own. We have benefitted spiritually, mentally, and emotionally from adopting, and we would recommend it to any family considering it. When asked her overall opinion on why children in the system should be adopted, she stated, Any child in the system deserves the chance to make a difference in this world, and it is our job to encourage their dreams and make it happen. There are so many parents out there that feel the same way as Erin, so many adopted children out there that feel the same way as Erin s son, and so many adoption agencies out there with such thankfulness to parents like Erin and her husband for what they do. Resilience is the ability to prevent short term events from turning into long term community disasters. In the Hampton roads area we have experienced recurring coastal flooding, in 2013 the government said they were joining as leaders to address these issues, but yet we still are not prepared to handle these hazardous events. With regard to Haber and with regard to question 1 above, to what does poison from the air refer? (p. xiii) Poison from the air is nitrogen from the atmosphere that we are using unnaturally; fertilizers run off into water and have ecological effects and nitrogen was used for chemical warfare in World War I. 3. Needless to say I didn t pay much attention to it. Not too long afterwards it was announced that Lady Gaga is now banned from China because of that video. This sparked my interest quite a bit actually and I wanted to know more. The video itself showed nothing offensive or jaw dropping, yet still the Chinese government took the liberty of firewalling the video. Therefore, making it legally impossible for anyone using China s web browsers to watch it and make a legitimate opinion on the video for themselves (Chinese Anger). After doing some brief research I learned that his holiness the Dalai Lama himself, who is to Tibetan Buddhism as the Pope is to Catholicism, has been in exile from China since 1959. Now why would the Chinese government have such an important religious figure such as the Dalai Lama in exile and take the time to ban someone for simply having a publicized chat with him? In order to have a better understanding of this situation I would need to know who the Dalai Lama is and what his position stands for. Why China has such a negative view of the Dalai Lama, while the rest of the world seems to respect and honor him. And why China s government would censor a video of the Dalai Lama, despite the video content being simple, respectful, and seemingly innocent. Blaine Harden writes a thrilling story about Shin Dong Hyuk escape from camp 14, a north Korean labor camp, where no other man has even had the idea of escaping from the heavily gated exit points. Shin grew up in the Labor Camp due to the crimes that his family committed generations ago and is still look down upon. His mother and only brother were executed for murder and stealing of food in the camp thus resulting in a very unstable situation to grow up to. Shin is later is kidnapped into an underground jail and spends more than 8 months without even seeing a ray of sun. Although it seem that nothing good would come out of this miserable situation Shin was able to find the needle in the Haystack. • 11. Pros And Cons Of Prison Reforms The article I chose was Inmates launch massive nationwide strike to protest modern slavery in US prison system by Feliks Garcia from The Independent. The main conclusion of the article was that 45 years after the Attica prison riot, many of the reforms demanded still exist today, and by inmates in about 40 prisons bonding together they wish to make a change. Within the article, the arguments presented as to why inmates are taking such measures is that besides the evident reason to end injustice, there now seems to be a larger possibility for reform. As for the second argument, this one would have been much stronger with the incorporation of hard data, such as the details of living conditions, and also if more than one side of the problem had been presented. However, I did find the article very enlightening due to the strength of being able to inform on the ongoing fight that little is heard about through specific examples. Lily uses her artistic temperament to enhance her beauty and attract potential suitors. Unfortunately, this use of Lily s artistic nature is never wholly satisfying. She sees beauty as her ticket into high society but it is what eventually causes her fall from grace as it causes men to objectify her and women to be jealous of her. Lily is desperately holding onto her place in society when she goes on a cruise with the Dorsets. She is working hard to maintain her looks. As Mrs. Fisher says, [Lily] looks ten years younger I never saw her so handsome (146). Mrs. Fisher also remarks on how the Crown Princess is very partial to Lily s good looks and charm. However, her skill at the art of beauty ruins her life because it causes men to be aggressive and women to be jealous. This ignites scandalous rumors of Lily having affairs. The most fatal of these rumors is started by Bertha Dorset when she accuses Lily of having an affair with George Dorset. This is a devastating blow for Lily her whole reputation is ruined. These rumors are believable because, if given the chance, George would love to have an affair with Lily. In fact, Bertha wanted Lily to join the Dorsets on their cruise because she knew how attracted George was to Lily and she needed a distraction from her own affair with Ned Silverton. But once Bertha s affair was unmasked, Lily was no longer considered useful, and therefore disposed of. According to Louis Auchincloss, Lily s beauty is the light in which each of her different groups would like to shine, but when they find that it illuminates their ugliness they want to put it out. Once Bertha unleashes her jealousy (coupled with her influence and money) on Lily, no amount of artistry can help Lily regain her footing in society. As she says to Seldon, What can one do when one finds that one only fits into one hole? One must get back to it or be thrown into the rubbish heap (240) Lily cannot get back to it because Bertha s unconquerable social influence has blocked her out of high society for good. Reflection Paper On Christmas Angels Christmas Angels Christmas in the Chapel has been a huge staple in my childhood, and every year, I ve looked forward to seeing the signing angels from my church Jefferson Street of from Lincoln Christian Church. In January 2015, I was able to join their group, Praise Handmade, and entered the Heavenlies , as we call it, that December. Our Head Angel , Angela, and three other girls, Rebecca, Bethany, and Erin, were in my first group for two years, and they had done it before. I was new to all of this, and I was the youngest and the smallest (I was 11 my first year); being afraid of heights did not help at all. The platform we were on was the highest part on the stage, and there was was nothing to keep us from falling; the stage is about 15 feet into the air. During my first rehearsal on the stage, my skin turned as pale as a ghost and my body was as still as a statue; I was completely petrified. When the song was over, I moved to a lower level of the stage to calm down. One of the angels (I don t remember who) asked me, Are you okay? I told them I was fine, though I was still trembling a little bit from fear. How was I supposed to do it in front of several people if I couldn t even rehearse up there without having a panic attack? Thankfully, I soon got used to the height, though the first time up there every year still makes my heart pound; I think it does for everyone. For my third year, I was able to look up for our last sign for the very first time. The chapel has 5 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Vivisection Imagine your pet spending an entire life in solidarity confinement where he or she is deprived of food and water, and is electrocuted and force fed chemicals from time to time. This is the life of animals in a laboratory. Live animal experimentation, also known as vivisection, is not only unethical, but also cruel and unnecessary. In the article Vivisection is Right, but it is Nasty and We must be Brave Enough to Admit This , Michael Hanlon claims vivisection is a moral necessity that without the use of animals in the laboratory, humans would not have modern medicine like antibiotics, analgesic, and cancer drugs (1). Animal experiments are not a moral necessity to allow human to discover cures for disease, like cancer or acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). In fact, the genetic composition of animals is completely different from human, and there might be catastrophic results if a medication is given to a human being, even if the medication is tested safe in animals. In other words, animals exhibit a different genetic and physiology than human beings and when drugs, like HIV vaccines, are tested on animals the effect of the medication may translate differently in the human body. For instance, Hanlon gives an example of animal experimentation in which the Cardiff University done by sewing thirty one kittens eyelids shut to study the effects of lazy eye in children (1). However, the British Union of the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) argues against Hanlon s claim that cat brains and cat vision are fundamentally different to human and it is hard to see how anything useful can be gained by the research (Hanlon 1), and experiments like sewing kittens eyelids together to study amblyopia have been done many years ago, and yet no cure has been found (Hanlon 1). Descartes argues that one uses effort when they are imagining, but not while thinking. He also says that imagination is not a necessity for being; that he could go on without it. One does not need imagination to exist, Descartes believes. Descartes thinks that thought is the mind turning on, or arguing against, its own ideas, and that when imagining things, the mind turns its attention to one s body. From these statements and conclusions, Descartes makes his final conclusion by saying people cannot imagine things without the existence of their body. He tells readers that this might be only a chance. At this point he cannot say for sure if the body exists. He then goes on to interpret and think through the uses of senses and decides if they deceive him. He wonders if they deceive him of the existence of material objects existing. He says that this cannot be so though, because they come from God, and again, God is not a deceiver. I object to the first argument that we discussed. Descartes cogito beliefs. • 22. Descriptive Essay About Jazz It was a sweltering 90 degrees on that summer day. Sheet music was strewn all over the floor. The fan behind me whirred as I browsed the internet for new music. I was frustrated with the progress I had made over the past couple of months in my quest to learn the art of playing jazz. This new form of music puzzled me; after analyzing chord progression after chord progression, I felt like I hadn t progressed since I started. My fanatical obsession with jazz started just as the school year was ending. I had already been in my middle school s jazz ensemble for some time now, but all we played were monotonous blues charts where my fellow bandmates and I would haphazardly attempt to improvise over a pentatonic scale. My band director brought in her vinyl copy of Miles Davis landmark 1959 album, Kind of Blue as part of our weekly listening test. It transformed my understanding of jazz. Before then the only jazz I knew was Chuck Mangione and David Benoit tunes my mom had put on while cooking or driving. The haunting melodies of So What and Blue in Green were a complete divergence from what were been playing throughout the school year. What I had witnessed was not dance music, but an image of a smokey downtown jazz bar painted by Davis himself. And while the rest of the ensemble passed it off as old man music , I wondered, how do I sound like that? And thus began my investigation of jazz that day. I traded in my classical Rubank Intermediate Technique for Saxophone for The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The theory or ideas can be deposited in a person?s head and he or she is to put into action the unrefined concepts. Freire is opposed to this ?Banking theory? (p. 357) because he feels that it is inhibiting to the mind. In his mind, problem posing theory is the proper route, due to the fact that it actively engages a person?s own ideas and personal thoughts and makes him analyze and question reality. Freire classifies standard systems of education to be a banking system. This label is used in a literal sense, in that Freire feels that a human brain is like a vault. In the banking system teachers deposit information in the student and it is to be expected that the student will retain the information until a withdrawal is requested, at which point the information will be regurgitated back in the same form that it was put in, without any processing of the information. This idea assumes many things about the teacher student relationship. Among these assumptions are that: the student begins education with a clean slate, the teacher knows best or knows all and that the student has nothing to contribute to his own education because he or she knows nothing. One other assumption in the banking system is that a person is not considered to be a conscious being that interacts with others; he is considered to be a spectator, not someone who is able to make ... How Childhood Is The Most Influential Stage Of Life Some say that childhood is the most influential stage of life, the stage that shapes the future for that child into how they will develop into adulthood. With this in mind, we are always watching what our children are learning, and providing them with the building blocks that will help them grow up into a good person someday, we watch and guide them, being careful they are not exposed to some things too early and others not too late. Take fairy tales for example. Kids today know all the fairy tales, or at least most of them. When the prince urges them to try on the shoe, each of their feet did not fit. For one her toes did not fit, and so her mother told her to cut off her big toe in order to make it fit. As for the other, her heel was too large and therefore she was told to cut a piece of her heel off. And to both girls she had used the same phrase; Cut off [a piece of your heel/your toe]. This in an of itself is terrible and in the end it didn t even work. Aside from the amount of abuse that is depicted in this story, it also paints a negative picture of what having a stepfamily is like. Children tend to try and apply what they learn to their lives, and if they get this idea of stepfamily treating others badly, it may affect them in the future, should they ever become a part of one. Today s society is mainly focused on technology, in being approved by others, and other things that without doubt lead it to destruction and failure. Most people in our society think of themselves as happy, yet it is the complete opposite. Humans these days are simply miserable and torn between work, technology and many other things that separate them from true happiness. Too much technology has consumed people s brains and most of the times makes them lose the capability to think for themselves, communicate with others and it also leads to laziness. The lack of family relationship and communication has ruined most families and has redefined the traditions and the meaning of a family. Too much conformity has redefined what is acceptable for people to do and not do just to be accepted. Just like the society in Fahrenheit 451, today s society is equally self destructive. His second example is essentially the same, but with good men instead. His third example is about Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, // And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way (Thomas 10). These are the men who took life for granted and do not realize how unfulfilled their lives are until they are on their deathbeds. All of these examples are the son s way of pleading with his father to hold on. His final example asks his father to try and be happy. He says, Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight // Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay (Thomas 13). His last words to his father are quite moving as he says, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray, // Do not go gentle into that good night. // Rage, rage against the dying of the light (Thomas 17). The son does not care if his father curses or blesses him so long as he fights to live and does not give up.
