Political and Governmental Issues in Australia Essay
The system of government in this country is based on the liberal democratic tradition. This kind of
government is one based on the values of religious tolerance and gives its citizens the freedom of
speech. The citizens also have the freedom of association which arises from the rule of law that has
been put in place to ensure that no individual is discriminated against. The practices of the government
and the institutions present in the Australian government are those that reflect the British and North
American models and are seen as being uniquely Australian. Being a responsible government, it
houses some of the oldest democracies in the world in the sense that it has the commonwealth of
Australia which was created in 1901. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also has the high court which arbitrates over different disputes which occur between the
commonwealth and the states.
The political issues facing NSW (Australia) workers
Large numbers of workers took a union organized demonstration. In this demonstration, they were
against the idea by the liberal national coalition government where they wanted to directly dictate the
public sector idea of wage rises (Columbus, 2007). This demonstration was with reference to the new
legislation in the industrial relations commission which granted increase in rates specified by the
parliament. It had been agreed by the parliament, that any increases that would be made would be
subjected to strict productivity conditions. The laws being addressed here were referred to as O Farrell
laws and they are the ones that provoked anger among the many public sector workers in the state.
Nurse and other support staff in hospitals had agreed to stop working as many governmental
departments remained closed. Many of the civil servants were forced to walk away from their working
places.
Decline in living standards had increased frustration among the civil servants who termed their pay
rates as being low. Despite the fact that year after year there were increases in the wages, they still
lamented that it could not enable them to meet the high living standards in the state.

Mammography And Breast Cancer
Introduction
Breast cancer is a disease in which malignant cells form in the breast tissue. There are many different
kinds of breast cancer, which is determined by which cells in the breast that are cancerous. The
lobules, ducts, and connective tissue are the three main parts that make up the breast. Most cancer
starts in the ducts and lobules with the most common being invasive ductal carcinoma and invasive
lobular carcinoma. In invasive ductal the cancer cells grow outside the ducts of the breast into other
parts of the breast tissue and may metastasize to other parts of the body. Invasive lobular cancer starts
in the lobules of the breast and spreads to the nearby breast tissue or other parts of the body.

Another limitation is that many of the articles did not report outcomes separately for the average
women and those who are high risk leaving room for estimates to be biased. Quantitative estimates of
outcomes were based from a relatively simple approach which could cause over or underestimation of
mortality reduction. In conclusion, this study found that breast cancer screenings are associated with a
20% reduction in mortality rates among women of any age at average risk.
Each one of these articles provides information to support breast cancer screening but it also provides
evidence that many false positives have been brought on by over use of screening. Women need a
health professional who will not only provide information about breast cancer screening but also
provide evidence of why screenings have been changed to after the age of 50 years old and biennially.

The History Of Greek Mythology
Greek mythology is used for the explanation on how humankind lived. Religion was the main source
of myths. There were many things it was used for like the explanation on how Gods, Goddesses,
monsters and mythical creatures lived in ancient times. This mythology explained the origin of gods
and their lifestyle and where humanity would go after death. The original gods were Uranus and Gaia.
They had a total twelve Titans, one of the most known and powerful Titan was named Iapetus, he repr.
During the Golden Age when Uranus was defeated, Iapetus was in charge of the Western part of the
mythological world, until he was defeated by Zeus and imprisoned. Iapetus was a Titan god from
Greek mythology, from the preceding generation to Zeus and other olympians. Iapetus was the son of

When Zeus fought against his father Cronus and other Titans, the Golden Age finalized. Iapetus was
one of the best and destructive fighters. Iapetus and Zeus at one point fought against each other. Zeus
punished the Titans by sending them to Tartarus, where they were imprisoned. Iapetus and Cronus
were not the exception. These events between Titan and Olympians lasted ten years of war during the
Titanomachy. Iapetus had four children, Atlas, Prometheus, Epimetheus, Menoetius from a second
generation of Titans. They would make Zeus angry and were punished to a degree depending on their
acts. Iapetus ironically lost his power against Zeus although him being considered the most destructive
and powerful.
As one can see, Greeks used Greek Mythology to help people understand how the world was created
and how things came to be. Although there are many myths, Iapetus the god of mortality was a very
important and fascinating mythical creature because he was one of the first twelve titans. His myth
was important to greek mythology because he represented mortality as well as

Digital Technology on the Media Industry
Explore the impact of digital technologies on the music industries
In recent years, digital technologies have changed dramatically, consequentially having a significant
impact on the music industry, who have been forced to alter their methods of production; to counteract
the increased fickleness of music audiences, whose tastes are ever changing and seek instant
gratification. The evolution of the music industry has been acutely influenced by the developments in
technology. It could be argued that technology has been a significant challenge for style of cultural
production, the economic relationships within these, and of course... the law.
In addition, whilst piracy has always been an issue, the widespread use of internet based ... Show more

Conversely as many artists and record companies argue music distribution in this manner has many a
disadvantage. For example, It has been estimated that over 95% of downloading is done illegally, and
the ease of access has turned this type of illegal activity into a casual affair, which is done on a
frequent basis. The concern is artists not receiving their appropriate royalties, as obviously when
downloading in an illegal fashion, nothing is actually purchased.
Recently there has been quite a backlash, with musicians attempting to sue file sharing and music
distributing sites, demanding sums of money for each song that s been illegally copied. Obviously the
issue of theft is rife, but the argument is that it s the people performing the acts that are against the law
that should be punished, and not the technology itself. The publicity in cases like these seem to make
the artist appear less popular, and ironically it s the sites that actually benefit from the media attention,
by the increased hits from curious media consumers.
A recent report suggests that only 5% of the music we acquire from online is purchased legitimately. It
s been said that at least 7 million people in Britain alone use illegal downloads, costing the economy
not just billions of pounds, but also thousands of jobs too. David Lammy, minister for intellectual
property, said: Illegal

Carpe Diem In To His Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell
The poem To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell, speaks to his coy mistress about how time is
rapidly passing and he wishes her to reciprocate his feelings along with sexual desires. In this poem I
feel like Marvell is also talking to the reader and encouraging them to act upon their desires.
Ultimately live life to the fullest because time is running out. This poem is all about Carpe Diem with
a satirical aspect on love. Essentially Marvell is trying to get this mistress to sleep with him. He wants
her to abandon her false modesty and give in to his requests, so that all his problems can be fixed with
sex. In lines 1 20 Marvell starts out talking about how ideally, he would spend eternity loving her
before having sex with her. Verbs like sit, think, and walk are associated with slowing down but they
are used to show they have no time, We would sit down, and think which way to walk, and pass our
long love s day. (Marvell, To His Coy Mistress, 3 4) So, he would love her, but they don t have time.
There is an aspect of exaggeration via exoticism seen in Ganges vs Humbler. She is by the Ganges
with rubies while he is by the Humbler complaining. I think this really hints at the reality of what he is
trying to get at because rubies represent talismans that are supposed to preserve virginity (Mays, pg
765, footnote 7). There is a controlling aspect of the speaker where he then again states he would wait
if there was the time. Throughout the stanza the passion grows and he

Modern Day Improvements to Prosthetic Limbs
Prosthetic limbs have been around for centuries, but what is one thing they all have in common? They
have all been a nuisance. In recent years technology of the modern day Prosthesis has ventured to new
heights, but they have not perfected an artificial limb yet. With the amount of people in need of
prosthetic limbs, the demand for a perfect prosthesis is tremendous. The perfect prosthesis shouldn t
feel or even look like an artificial limb. Prosthetics should go unnoticed throughout the rest of the
amputee s life. Modern prosthetic limbs have become very advanced in the last decade. They now
have the ability to grip objects, have running limbs, and many more wonderful things. Although these
prosthetics are great, they are lacking some key extras that amputees would relish. What amputees
really want is their sense of feeling back. They want to reach out with their prosthetic limb and be able
to tell if the stove is on or off. They want to be able to press the gas of an automobile. This sense, that
all non amputees take for granted, would be a great place to start the improvement of the perfect
prosthetic limb. To accomplish such a daunting task, engineers must figure out an alternative source
that could interact with the amputees still intact nerve endings. This way they can use their still
functioning nerves to communicate with their pseudo nerve and have the ability to move their
prosthesis around with complete control of it and its sense of touch. I believe this has not

An Example Of The Note 7 Fiasco
The Note 7 Fiasco
At a lunch event in Hammerstein Ballroom at the Manhattan Center in New York on August 2,
Samsung announced the note 7 with much fanfare from loyal customers and journalist alike. Samsung
note 7 was released on the 19th of August 2016 to its customers, a couple of weeks later there was
news circulating on the internet it is exploding in charge. Due to this issue airlines and passengers
were advised to refrain from using their note 7 in flight to avoid explosion and possibly plane crash
whilst consumer safety stated that it is working closely with Samsung on the issue and warned the
public to stop using the note 7 (Czarnecki, 2016)
It took Samsung a while to admit there was a problem with is a new product and finally issued a
voluntary recall of the note 7 on the 2nd of September 2016 (Czarnecki, 2016). The replacement Note
7 phones given to people that had returned their unit after it issued a recall was also revealed to had
exploded which led to a second global recall by Samsung. This fiasco was indeed a public relation
nightmare that Samsung handled badly (Sullivan, 2016). It ultimately led to the loss of $19B in its
stock value (Milanesi, 2017).

Meaning Of Happiness
There s no question that everyone wants to be happy within their lives. The only source of
disagreement lies within how one achieves happiness and what happiness really means. The authors
within the book Pursuing Happiness have their own meanings of happiness and what it takes to
achieve happiness. Topics such as: what happiness is, what brings happiness, what role does money
play in happiness, etc. In this first discussion, we see what the some of the authors have to say about
the meaning of happiness. Someone such as his Holiness the Dalai Lama would argue that happiness
is having peace and satisfaction within one s mind. As a tibetan monk, he believe that happiness
occurs within the self (Dalai Lama and Cutler 23). In contrast, Thomas Jefferson would explain that
happiness is actually the opportunity to freely choose one s path within life. Freedom, in eyes, would
be the embodiment of freedom (Declaration of Independence). In would also argue that happiness
stems from the feeling of self worth, that you have a place within this world. As we see here, the true
meaning of happiness all depends on the person. There is no right or wrong answer because we each
perceive happiness in a different manner. This is important because it also means that there are
different opinions in which someone can achieve happiness. When it comes to achieving happiness,
there are two things to consider; physical and spiritual. Some people believe that happiness can come
from material

Asian American Culture Characteristics
Asia as a world region is extremely diverse in terms of religion, language, customs, traditions, and
lifestyles. The region contains the largest percent of the world s population, containing both China and
India, as well is the largest producer of tea and rice. Thus, the five most important characteristics that
make Asia unique as a world region are the region s large, dense population, rice culture, tea culture,
array of religion, and multiple intricate languages.
The first characteristic of the Asian region making it unique as a whole is the enormous population it
boasts and provides to the world s total population. From the table 1: Largest Populations in Asia of

Tea has been a prominent aspect of Asian culture for a very long time. It is said that the discovery of
tea can be placed at about 5,000 years ago, and that tea drinkers were traditionally seen as the
academics and cultural elites of society (The History of Tea). Tea was a way to distinguish the elites of
society from the rest of society, as it is a staple beverage, a curative, and a symbol of status (Tea
Power point, slide 3). As tea diffused to other areas of Asia from China, it gained prominence in other
aspects as well. Today it is used for medicinal benefits and is believed to cure many ailments. From
helping with a common cold to healing more severe conditions, tea is used by many. Tea is such an
integral part of Asian culture that the most basic of tea time begins when the guest enters (Tea Power
point, slide 4). As well as being used for medicinal purposes, when tea diffused through Asia it
became a major source of profit in the region. For example, Sri Lanka became a major tea producing
country in Asia. According to the tea power point in class, 25% of the value of all Sri Lanka s exports
are accounted for by tea (tea Power point, slide 43). This being said, there are many countries
throughout Asia that rely on tea to survive economically. Another aspect of tea that makes the region
unique is simply the fact that there are so many variations of tea that are grown specifically in certain
parts of the region. It makes each tea special and distinct to a particular area. For the case of Sri
Lanka, black tea is the predominate tea produced. According to the power point, the main difference is
in origin, that is, green tea is produced in China and Japan, while black tea is produced in India and Sri
Lanka (Tea Power point, slide 48). As a result of the cultural, medicinal, and economical roles tea

Prompt: Is Israel s very survival dependent on the creation of a stable and viable Palestinian state? Let
us have ambitions; ambitions to move beyond the violence and occupation, to the day when two
states, Palestine and Israel, can live together side by side in peace and security. ~King Abdullah II. In
the country of Israel there are two conflicting ethnic/religious groups, the Israelis and the Palestinians.
Israelis have most of the power, and run the actual state of Israel, whereas Palestinians have only
inconsequential amounts of authority outlined by the Oslo Accords, for this reason, there has been
ongoing conflict amongst Israelis and Palestinians. This conflict began when the Romans expelled
Jews from this area in 31 BCE, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Israelis have been oppressing Palestinians for a long time, which caused and causes, many different
disagreements. As per the word of Khouri, Israel could indeed survive without Palestinian statehood,
but only if surrounded by massive walls and protective missile shields (Khouri, Document 1). This
statement illustrates the fact that Palestinians are unhappy with the Israelis and Israel s survival
depends upon the creation of a Palestinian state. Without Palestinian statehood, terrorist groups like
Hamas would continue to attack Israel, and with partial justification. According to a map by Rima
Najjar Merriman, since 1946 the land of Israel has morphed from mostly Palestinian land to mostly
Israeli land, but there are still the same number of Palestinians (Merriman, Document 3). This
Palestinian loss of land has contributed greatly to the oppression of Palestinians. Another contributing
factor is the fact that, as shown by a map titled Israeli Settlement Population Growth, Israeli
occupation in Palestinian areas, like the West Bank has skyrocketed, forcing many Palestinians into
extreme poverty (Document 7). It is circumstances like these that have caused Palestinian oppression,
and thus discontent, which then have been instrumental in the decline in Israeli safety. If Palestine was
granted statehood, both Israelis and Palestinians would be safer, in general.

The Age Of Revolutions And The Modern World
The Age of Revolutions and the Modern World
Name:

Introduction
The period from 1774 to 1848, is referred to as the Age of Revolution. This is because it saw various
significant revolutionary movements take place that gave way to the complex modern world. These
revolutions took place in different regions in Europe and across America. Some of the revolutions
include: American Revolution, the Haitian Revolution, the revolt of the slaves in Latin America, the
Greek Revolution, the French Revolution, and the independence movements of nations in Latin
America. These revolutions are considered to have impacted the world as they changed different
aspects of society including social setup, political aspects and the economic set up of the world
(Matson, 2005).
The term modernization refers to the transformation or change of a society from a rural and agrarian
position to a more urban, secular and industrial position. Modernization developed rapidly after the
age of revolution and changed the society. The idea of modernization is derived from the notion of an
evolutionary society. This involves the transition of society from barbarism to a developed and ...

Assimilation Richard Rodriguez Summary
Richard Rodriguez is a famous Mexican American writer, famous for his articles on immigrant culture
and assimilation. Assimilation, according to Rodriguez, is the integration of one s culture with another.
Rodriguez is not in favor of or against assimilation but acknowledges that it is occurring in America.
Rodriguez first discusses the Canadian model of assimilation, where individuals in a mixed race
culture prefer to remain ethnically and culturally separate. Rodriguez proposes that America adopts a
Mexican model of assimilation, where one is classified by the culture that one adopts rather than by
one s skin color. Americans have a conflicted and confused view of assimilation, preferring to keep a
distinguished sense of self, while actually assimilating culturally with many different ethnic groups.
Americans have often resisted assimilation, especially if it meant race mixing or cultural blending.
They feared how immigrants would change the culture and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

a rising concern for the Redwood Forest grew as nearby logging and other human activities started to

Kawhi Leonard demonstrates this ability. The San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard won

game and 2 steals per game. Another great player who also has great defensive characteristics is Paul
George of the Indiana Pacers. When not on the floor the Pacers are one of the worst defensive teams,
but when he is on the court they become 6th defensively. He is almost single handling leading the
Pacers to a playoff position this year, at the 6th seed as of right now. The final great current NBA
player whose great defensive ability makes him strive is Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond.
Drummond is the anchor of the Pistons, and a defensive monster, averaging 1.6 blocks per game.
Andre is leading the NBA with a defensive rating of 93, and is one of the best at defending the paint.
That is how all great current NBA players share a trait of great defense to make them the best current

Justice is to be fair to all stakeholders, and it also includes hard work, good ideas, and fair practices.
Sandusky was not fair for putting his fellow co workers and university in that situation. My opinion on

Introduction
In this report we will be looking at National systems of innovation (NSI). We will be looking into
what innovation is, what s it benefits to an organisation, business and countries. After having
discussed that, we will look at the purpose of national systems of innovation and the different
components of one. This will take us then into how people, companies as well as organisation and
countries might know if the national systems of innovation were effective. I will conclude by stating

Negative Impact Of Sacrifice In Society
Walking on the road to Jerusalem, The time had come to sacrifice again, My two small sons, they
walked beside me on the road, The reason that they came was to watch the lamb... Daddy, daddy,
What have we seen here?, There s so much that we don t understand, So I took them in my arms, And
we turned and faced the cross, Then I said dear children watch the lamb (Boltz n.p.). Did Jesus only
feel pain and anguish, or did he feel joy on the cross too?
Sacrifice is, an act of offering to a deity something precious; especially: the killing of a victim on an
altar (Merriam Webster n.p.). Along with its denotation, sacrifice is described as letting something go
that will benefit a greater cause because of a belief. Sacrifice helps make the world a better and more
viable place. The next generation is relying on this generation to make the world a better place, which
can only be done if time and talents are offered up. Often times the word sacrifice has a negative
impact, but is sacrifice what brought every human being into this world?
While religion and politics are controversial to America s society in this era, sacrifice is a way for
people to express themselves. Expressing ones self can be a hard task, and thoughts of judgment
always come to mind. Only one thing that can judge, and that is a greater being. Every human on the
planet earth stands for something like the cross symbolizes sacrifice for the life of Jesus Christ. Along
with biblical references, society recognizes

A Report On Ballast Water
Ballast water is used every day by thousands of ships to control trim, stability, list and the stresses of
the vessel. Ballast water is picked up in one part of the world but then can be discharged in another, in
doing this the transfer of non indigenous invasive aquatic species can occur. These species end up
destroying ecosystems that they are not originally a part of. Therefore many standards and regulations
have come about in how to exchanging ballast so as to reduce the transfer of these species. To comply
with these regulations ships and ship owners have installed onboard their vessels different types of
systems to eliminate these aquatic species. Not only do these system need to be ecofriendly but they
must also but other considerations that must be taken into account when installing a ballast system is
the size of the system and ease of installation, cost effectiveness, environmentally friendly and
effectiveness of eliminating the aquatic species. Many of the leading companies that create these
systems make them compact, easy to install and to make sure that all operational requirements are met
to help minimize ship yard time. Before the regulation about needing a ballast water treatment system
a ship could do a ballast exchange. The exchange of ballast water, in deep ocean areas or open seas,
was the first step towards limiting the transfer of invasive aquatic species in ballast water . (Anwar

The American victory over the English in the Revolutionary War was a massive win for America and
one that changed the face of the US as it is now, in the present. The United States of America was the

America s independence. This victory was achieved by a common drive for freedom that was shared
by the patriots to cut off all ties to monarchs and royals of Britain. They got what they bargained for

Economic Globalization
Introduction
Economic globalization has become the most important feature and a general trend of present world
economic development. Globalization is a phenomenon and also a process of development of mankind
and human society (Hamilton, 2008). It is the essential feature of the modern age. Globalization is the
cross border flows of capital and goods, including capital, labour, technology and natural resources
(Bożyk, Misala Puławski, 2002). Economic globalization is a historical process, and the germination
of it could date back to the 16th century. After the industrial revolution, capitalist commodity

The negative impact on globalization can be clearly illustrated from the financial sphere. One collapse
in the financial sector would lead to the domino style economic collapse.
Global Stratification
Global stratification can be defined that globe countries and areas are not on an equal footing in the
process of economic, political and cultural globalization (Andersen Taylor, 2006). The economic
globalization has exacerbated the imbalance of world economy and has widened the wealth gap.
Globalization has brought unfair relationships between developing countries and developed countries.
Gao (2000) noted that economic globalization has expanded the gap between South and North. And it
has brought huge shocks to national economy of developing countries. The international economic
organizations like the Word Bank, IMF and WTO are in the hand of developed countries (El Ojeili, C.
Hayden, P., 2006.). All the principles, institutions and sequences for the world economic operation are
made by them. (Sklair, 2002)What s more, the economic, technical and management advantages that
is owned by Western countries cannot be easily and fully surpassed by developing countries.
It is fair to say that the ones who benefit the most in economic globalization are developed countries
whose social productive forces are highly developed ((El Ojeili, C. Hayden, P., 2006.). However, it is
difficult for developing countries that are relatively

The functions of telomeres includes protection of chromosomes from degradation and end to end

Telomerase consists of two main subunits: telomerase RNA (hTR) and catalytic component human
telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT). The enzymatic activity is usually absent in somatic cells but
remains active in germ line cells, embryonic stem cells and tumor cells. Almost 80 to 90% of human
cancers are characterized by the presence of telomerase activity.Studies on glioma shown that more
than 50% of tumors have telomerase activity and its detection rate increases with the grades of
malignancy (Tchirkov et al 2003). Therefore knockdown of hTERT expression may help in the
development of novel therapeutic strategies. In the present study we evaluate the effect of siRNA to

Mars Versus Earth
Mars VS Earth
Mars and Earth are both part of the four terrestrial planets that orbit within the inner solar system and
are from the same origin. They are both made of rock and metal. Mars has an extremely weak
magnetosphere however, so probably doesn t have a liquid metal core. Earth on the other hand does
have a liquid metal core, which provides its strong magnetosphere. Solar radiation can therefore
directly penetrate Mars, while Earth can reflect solar radiation. Mars is much further from the sun than
Earth making it much colder. This distance from the Sun also makes a big difference in the length of
their years, with Mars year being about twice as long. Further, Mars orbit around the sun is more

Within this space will have to create our own oxygen and water. Instead of managing resources and
having regulations on how to allocate them, we will have to create all our resources.
Perhaps this will give us a cleaner and simpler way to live, because we are creating only what we
need, and only using what s necessary. I believe political design will be heavily influenced by
efficiency and necessity. And because it s going to be the year 2060, much of our work will be handled
by intelligent machines, so I believe politics will be focused less on crisis issues, and more on how to
manage and foster creativity, and maximize leisure and fulfillment of curiosities and self expression. I
believe on Mars, politics will have a better name. Another thought I m having is how the need to
create and live in an enclosed dome to survive also indicates our settlement is vulnerable and critical
to keep in tact for the good of every single person there. I believe the very nature of this structure will
mandate a greater sense of cooperation. In this setup I would see that wars starting and shooting
bombs at each other would be a self defeating strategy. I am seeing that s the politics of war and
conflict should be minimal if any. Also the argument about land ownership will definitely matter if we
have a limited dome area. But since there s so much space on Mars, I guess

The Copyright Distance Learning Disconnect
The Copyright Distance Learning Disconnect by Michael Seadle
In the article entitled The Copyright Distance Learning Disconnect, Seadle a copyright librarian at
Michigan State University (Seadle, 2002, p. 2) examines several ways in which the current copyright
laws are antiquated for the digital world of distance learning. Three disconnects that Seadle identifies
are restrictions on instructor materials imposed by the current definition of Fair Use, student opinion
that all information on the internet is free to be used without limitation and lastly, the difficulties faced
by publishers in protecting copyrighted work. Many of the difficulties found in following as well as
enforcing copyright laws, stem from the vastly different time it takes for changes to occur. The
technology utilized in distance learning updates daily while copyright law is slow to update (Seadle,
2002).
Copyright Basics and Education Exemptions
Copyright is defined as the legal right to be the only one to reproduce, publish, and sell a book,
musical recording, etc. (Copyright [Def.1], n.d). In the law, copyright protection insures that the
authors are considered the owners of the work they create and they can therefor expect compensation
if the work is used by anyone other than themselves. Copyright laws over the years have made great
efforts to protect the creators and authors of constructed works; however, the ease by which materials
can be obtained and distributed online has created

evidence in the light most favorable to Poe, the non moving party. See, e.g., Goldberg v. Cablevision

At some time during the fall of 1992, several administrative officials of the Connecticut State Police (

In 1989, Pearl was given an unsatisfactory performance evaluation report for photographing several
young women in swimsuits in a private bedroom while filming a public safety announcement. In
1983, a woman filed a formal complaint against Pearl, alleging that he made numerous unwanted and
improper advances toward her and improperly touched her when he escorted her to and from the
hospital following her epileptic seizure. These incidents, however, all occurred well before Leonard
assumed command.
Although the incidents were described in Pearl s personnel file, at no time prior to the incident
involving Poe did Leonard review Pearl s personnel file.[2] Leonard was unaware of, and was not

prior to the incident involving Poe.[4] In his affidavit, Leonard indicated that it is not the policy or
practice of the CSP for supervisors newly assigned to supervisory 128*128 positions to review the
personnel, disciplinary or internal affairs files of subordinate employees without some justifiable
reason to do so. Leonard Aff. ¶ 11. Leonard also testified during his deposition that while outgoing
supervisors and their replacements may discuss informally any pending personnel problems, the CSP
had no formal policy of outgoing supervisors providing such information to their replacements.

The Ford Pinto
The Ford Pinto
Question 1
What moral issues does the Pinto case raise?
ANS: The Pinto case raise the moral issues of what is the dollar value of the human life. That the
businesses should not be putting a value on human life and disregard a known deadly danger. In order
to perform a risk/benefit analysis, all costs and benefits must be expressed in some common measure.
This measure is typically in dollars, as the Ford Motor Company used in its analysis. This can prove
difficult for things that are not commonly bought and sold on the open market. Therefore, totell
someone that there is a certain price for their life is a preposterous notion. There are numerous things
which individuals consider priceless. Ford thought they could get ... Show more content on

As Friedman has argued, the role of business is to make money and a cost benefit analysis is a very
useful tool in figuring out how to do so. When it comes to morals, however, cost benefit analysis is
much less useful unless one believes in utilitarianism. For other understanding of morality, a person
should not be asking what do I gain and lose when trying to figure out what to do. People should be
asking what s the right thing to do . Cost benefit analysis can t really help with that. An examination of
the Ford Pinto Case, the cost benefit analysis, will help raise the awareness and understanding of the
diminishing value of ethics in the business world. When Ford conducted the cost benefit analysis, it
analyzed what the potential benefit would be if they fixed every Pinto by installing the baffle piece.
The result produced from the cost benefit analysis may be interpreted to say that it would have cost
Ford $137 million to fix the Pintos by installing the baffle piece when it would have cost $49.5 million
to leave the cars alone and deal with the expenses of injuries and deaths from the crashes. Ford
decided that, because it would be cheaper, it would not install the baffle piece. According to De
George, Ford did not tell the consumer that the car was not as safe as others, nor did it inform
consumers that they had the option of purchasing the baffle piece (De George, 1995). In Ford
contention is that these decision are moral ones, and that cost benefit analysis is

The Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) Gene
The Von Hippel Lindau (VHL) gene was first discovered as a tumor suppressor gene in 1993 by Latif,
et al. (1). The gene was identified in an attempt to determine the driver of tumorigenesis in Von Hippel
Lindau Disease. VHL disease is an autosomal dominant hereditary cancer syndrome that is
characterized by tumor and cyst formation throughout the body, with those infected especially
predisposed to hemangioblastomas of the central nervous system, eyes, pancreas, and kidney. Latif, et
al. were able to match the gene region to chromosome 3p.25 26 by positional cloning and created a
map of the region using pulsed field gel electrophoresis in order to isolate the prospective genes. The
DNA of 221 VHL patients was then probed using specified plasmids to determine that there were 28
rearrangements present, with three large non overlapping deletions detected in the hypothesized VHL
gene segment. This sequence was conserved across different species, with implications of its necessity
for normal cellular function, pointing to its role as a tumor suppressor. Since part of the sequence of
the protein product (pVHL) also matched (48%) to that of a surface membrane protein sequence in
Trypanosoma brucei, pVHL is thought to have some role in signal transduction or cell adhesion as
well.
The VHL gene itself is made of three exon segments located on chromosome 3p25. Patients with VHL
syndrome are heterozygotes of the VHL gene, with one allele that is a mutated or inactivated copy of

College Can Be A Huge Jump From High School

impacted areas includes a student s overall success in college. Many college students may say that
high school was a breeze and claim to have done well by putting forth minimal effort. High schoolers
are use to having a ton of free time, getting good grades without studying outside of the classroom,
and barely having any homework at all. Once they make the transition to college, all of that changes.

A student s college success can be defined as their level of success and fulfillment in academics and
enjoyment of their life in college. There are many contributions that can help a student s college
success as well as many contributions that can diminish it. This paper will be focusing on two main
components that will help blossom a student s success in college. Most people go to college to learn
and gain experience to help guide them in the right direction toward their career which is why having
a successful college life is important no matter how long one attends. While there are many elements
that can help with this, the two big ones that contribute are a student s involvement in activities
outside of class and a proper, healthy diet. The first topic and most important, is a student s
involvement with activities around the campus. This can be anything from sports, to presenting
situations, or just sitting down and talking to a bunch of people. In high school these are known as
extracurricular activities, though the same word may apply in college. Extracurricular activities
provide students with a number of benefits. It can teach them the value of working together with
others to accomplish a task, or teamwork. There are little to no downsides to joining clubs and if there
are, the benefits outweigh the negatives. According to the U.S. News Education getting involved in
college can allow students to become more connected with their school and help

The Effects Of Heavy Metal Decontamination Of Sluil
Heavy metal contamination of soils has received considerable attention in the contemporary science.
Application of biological processes for decontaminating the contaminated/polluted sites is a
challenging task because heavy metals cannot be degraded and hence persist in the soil (Kidd et al.,

To fit the Category of a book with a parent to child conflict I picked the book As I Lay Dying by
William Faulkner. I took this topic a bit differently as written above. I wrote about the relationships
between the family members relating back to the mother and conflicts the family faces to please the
mother. The book itself covers this topic pretty well the mother of the family, Addie, passes away
leaving the family to grant her burial wishes. The story is told in the perspective of the people that
knew her, especially her direct family. Even Addie narrates the story in the beginning before she
passed. In the beginning of the story Addie is very ill and on the verge of dying. Her oldest son, Cash,
is trying to make the best of the situation and decides to use his skills as a builder to design and

Summary Of Pete Rose An American Dilemma
ntroduction The author of the book Pete Rose An American Dilemma is Kostya Kennedy. The book
was published in 2014. It has 315 pages in total.
Rationale I chose this book because I am a huge Cincinnati Reds fan. I also am aware of the Pete Rose
situation and wanted to learn more about him.
Author The title of the book is Pete Rose An American Dilemma. I think Kostya Kennedy picked this
title because Pete Rose is a dilemma for baseball fans. On one hand we see all of the accomplishments
he has achieved in baseball. You could argue that he is the greatest baseball player ever. However, we
also know that he has bet on baseball games he has played in. What we don t know is whether those
bets ever affected the outcome of a game. So, Pete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Harry Rose Harry, Pete s dad, was 5 9 , 175 pounds, had blue eyes, straight jawline and a wide nose..
He was a semi pro football player who embodied the phrase no bull . He never missed a day of work,
always looked you right in the eye when he talked to you, and gave a firm handshake. In many ways
Pete was a mirror image of his father Harry.
Characterization In this book, Pete changed in multiple ways. In the beginning, Pete learned that you
had to earn everything in life and he kept that with him his entire life. However, with all the success he
gained, he also gained a cockiness. When the commissioner of baseball asked him why he bet on
baseball his answer was I thought I could get away with it. Pete learned that even though you may
deserve to be in the Hall of Fame one mistake could cost you everything and in his case, it did.
Setting Pete grew up on the west side of Cincinnati. His boyhood home was 4404 Braddock Street. It
was a three bedroom home on a hill near the Ohio River. The house wasn t spectacular but was a nice
enough house for the Rose s. Pete lived here up until after his rookie season. He continued to live in
Cincinnati, the west side of course, and moved to Philadelphia and Montreal for a few short years
while playing for local

Visual Analysis Of The Nongfu Spring Water Bottle
1. Visual Analysis
The Nongfu Spring Water bottle is a cylindrical object standing just under the length of a forearm. The
bottle itself is made out of plastic and is vertically symmetric, but not horizontally, since the upper
most part has a funnel shape to accommodate the cap.The bottle is wrapped around by a plastic sheet
that is centered slightly upwards and covers about two thirds of the cylindrical surface.
The design and composition of plastic wrapping is unique. It contains different elements positioned in
harmony with one another, but none in direct interaction. The most prominent drawing on the bottle is
a side profile of a lynx in a yellow and blue shirt, inside a blue, oxford boot style ice skate, with its red
scarf blowing to the left side, as if to show the idea of a wind. On the top left corner, a fox appears to
be sitting on sled, and on the bottom right corner, a mouse seems to be playing a violin. Additionally,
there are some drawing of leafless winter trees, and a faint drawing of some mountains in the far back.
The general theme that seems to be connecting these elements is nature and winter, but with some
clear human world references, like the clothing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This bottle juxtaposes elements of nature, like trees, animals, winter and mountains, with human
elements like clothing and instruments. The choice, however, to portray animals as being the ones
taking up human customs, and not the other way around, is intriguing. While it makes for a visually
pleasing image, the design highlights the expectation of animals and nature to adapt, and to some
extent adopt, human behaviours and beliefs. If the goal of the design is to sell the water bottle, it
makes sense to associate it with nature, since that is where fresh and cold water is found. But whether
humanizing nature is mere marketing strategy or a genuine attempt to remind us of where our
resources come from, is

This kind of government is one based on the values of religious tolerance and gives its citizens the freedom of speech. The citizens also have the freedom of association which arises from the rule of law that has been put in place to ensure that no individual is discriminated against. The practices of the government and the institutions present in the Australian government are those that reflect the British and North American models and are seen as being uniquely Australian. In this demonstration, they were against the idea by the liberal national coalition government where they wanted to directly dictate the public sector idea of wage rises (Columbus, 2007). This demonstration was with reference to the new legislation in the industrial relations commission which granted increase in rates specified by the parliament. It had been agreed by the parliament, that any increases that would be made would be subjected to strict productivity conditions. The laws being addressed here were referred to as O Farrell laws and they are the ones that provoked anger among the many public sector workers in the state. Nurse and other support staff in hospitals had agreed to stop working as many governmental departments remained closed. Many of the civil servants were forced to walk away from their working places. Decline in living standards had increased frustration among the civil servants who termed their pay rates as being low. Despite the fact that year after year there were increases in the wages, they still lamented that it could not enable them to meet the high living standards in the state. ... In conclusion, this study found that breast cancer screenings are associated with a 20% reduction in mortality rates among women of any age at average risk. Each one of these articles provides information to support breast cancer screening but it also provides evidence that many false positives have been brought on by over use of screening. There were many things it was used for like the explanation on how Gods, Goddesses, monsters and mythical creatures lived in ancient times. This mythology explained the origin of gods and their lifestyle and where humanity would go after death. The original gods were Uranus and Gaia. They had a total twelve Titans, one of the most known and powerful Titan was named Iapetus, he repr. During the Golden Age when Uranus was defeated, Iapetus was in charge of the Western part of the mythological world, until he was defeated by Zeus and imprisoned. Iapetus and Zeus at one point fought against each other. Zeus punished the Titans by sending them to Tartarus, where they were imprisoned. Iapetus and Cronus were not the exception. These events between Titan and Olympians lasted ten years of war during the Titanomachy. Iapetus had four children, Atlas, Prometheus, Epimetheus, Menoetius from a second generation of Titans. They would make Zeus angry and were punished to a degree depending on their acts. Iapetus ironically lost his power against Zeus although him being considered the most destructive and powerful. The evolution of the music industry has been acutely influenced by the developments in technology. It could be argued that technology has been a significant challenge for style of cultural production, the economic relationships within these, and of course... the law. For example, It has been estimated that over 95% of downloading is done illegally, and the ease of access has turned this type of illegal activity into a casual affair, which is done on a frequent basis. The concern is artists not receiving their appropriate royalties, as obviously when downloading in an illegal fashion, nothing is actually purchased. Recently there has been quite a backlash, with musicians attempting to sue file sharing and music distributing sites, demanding sums of money for each song that s been illegally copied. Obviously the issue of theft is rife, but the argument is that it s the people performing the acts that are against the law that should be punished, and not the technology itself. The publicity in cases like these seem to make the artist appear less popular, and ironically it s the sites that actually benefit from the media attention, by the increased hits from curious media consumers. Carpe Diem In To His Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell The poem To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell, speaks to his coy mistress about how time is rapidly passing and he wishes her to reciprocate his feelings along with sexual desires. In this poem I feel like Marvell is also talking to the reader and encouraging them to act upon their desires. Ultimately live life to the fullest because time is running out. This poem is all about Carpe Diem with a satirical aspect on love. Essentially Marvell is trying to get this mistress to sleep with him. He wants her to abandon her false modesty and give in to his requests, so that all his problems can be fixed with sex. In lines 1 20 Marvell starts out talking about how ideally, he would spend eternity loving her before having sex with her. Verbs like sit, think, and walk are associated with slowing down but they are used to show they have no time, We would sit down, and think which way to walk, and pass our long love s day. (Marvell, To His Coy Mistress, 3 4) So, he would love her, but they don t have time. There is an aspect of exaggeration via exoticism seen in Ganges vs Humbler. She is by the Ganges with rubies while he is by the Humbler complaining. I think this really hints at the reality of what he is trying to get at because rubies represent talismans that are supposed to preserve virginity (Mays, pg 765, footnote 7). In recent years technology of the modern day Prosthesis has ventured to new heights, but they have not perfected an artificial limb yet. With the amount of people in need of prosthetic limbs, the demand for a perfect prosthesis is tremendous. The perfect prosthesis shouldn t feel or even look like an artificial limb. Prosthetics should go unnoticed throughout the rest of the amputee s life. Modern prosthetic limbs have become very advanced in the last decade. They now have the ability to grip objects, have running limbs, and many more wonderful things. Although these prosthetics are great, they are lacking some key extras that amputees would relish. What amputees really want is their sense of feeling back. They want to reach out with their prosthetic limb and be able to tell if the stove is on or off. They want to be able to press the gas of an automobile. This sense, that all non amputees take for granted, would be a great place to start the improvement of the perfect prosthetic limb. To accomplish such a daunting task, engineers must figure out an alternative source that could interact with the amputees still intact nerve endings. This way they can use their still functioning nerves to communicate with their pseudo nerve and have the ability to move their prosthesis around with complete control of it and its sense of touch. The only source of disagreement lies within how one achieves happiness and what happiness really means. The authors within the book Pursuing Happiness have their own meanings of happiness and what it takes to achieve happiness. Topics such as: what happiness is, what brings happiness, what role does money play in happiness, etc. In this first discussion, we see what the some of the authors have to say about the meaning of happiness. Someone such as his Holiness the Dalai Lama would argue that happiness is having peace and satisfaction within one s mind. As a tibetan monk, he believe that happiness occurs within the self (Dalai Lama and Cutler 23). In contrast, Thomas Jefferson would explain that happiness is actually the opportunity to freely choose one s path within life. Freedom, in eyes, would be the embodiment of freedom (Declaration of Independence). In would also argue that happiness stems from the feeling of self worth, that you have a place within this world. As we see here, the true meaning of happiness all depends on the person. There is no right or wrong answer because we each perceive happiness in a different manner. This is important because it also means that there are different opinions in which someone can achieve happiness. Tea was a way to distinguish the elites of society from the rest of society, as it is a staple beverage, a curative, and a symbol of status (Tea Power point, slide 3). As tea diffused to other areas of Asia from China, it gained prominence in other aspects as well. Today it is used for medicinal benefits and is believed to cure many ailments. From helping with a common cold to healing more severe conditions, tea is used by many. Tea is such an integral part of Asian culture that the most basic of tea time begins when the guest enters (Tea Power point, slide 4). Let us have ambitions; ambitions to move beyond the violence and occupation, to the day when two states, Palestine and Israel, can live together side by side in peace and security. ~King Abdullah II. This statement illustrates the fact that Palestinians are unhappy with the Israelis and Israel s survival depends upon the creation of a Palestinian state. According to a map by Rima Najjar Merriman, since 1946 the land of Israel has morphed from mostly Palestinian land to mostly Israeli land, but there are still the same number of Palestinians (Merriman, Document 3). Assimilation, according to Rodriguez, is the integration of one s culture with another. Rodriguez is not in favor of or against assimilation but acknowledges that it is occurring in America. Rodriguez first discusses the Canadian model of assimilation, where individuals in a mixed race culture prefer to remain ethnically and culturally separate. Rodriguez proposes that America adopts a Mexican model of assimilation, where one is classified by the culture that one adopts rather than by one s skin color. Americans have a conflicted and confused view of assimilation, preferring to keep a distinguished sense of self, while actually assimilating culturally with many different ethnic groups. In 1989, Pearl was given an unsatisfactory performance evaluation report for photographing several young women in swimsuits in a private bedroom while filming a public safety announcement. In 1983, a woman filed a formal complaint against Pearl, alleging that he made numerous unwanted and improper advances toward her and improperly touched her when he escorted her to and from the hospital following her epileptic seizure. These incidents, however, all occurred well before Leonard assumed command. Although the incidents were described in Pearl s personnel file, at no time prior to the incident involving Poe did Leonard review Pearl s personnel file.[2] Leonard was unaware of, and was not informed by his predecessor[3] of, any performance or disciplinary issues involving Pearl at any time prior to the incident involving Poe.[4] In his affidavit, Leonard indicated that it is not the policy or practice of the CSP for supervisors newly assigned to supervisory 128*128 positions to review the personnel, disciplinary or internal affairs files of subordinate employees without some justifiable reason to do so. • 33. The Ford Pinto The Ford Pinto Question 1 What moral issues does the Pinto case raise? ANS: The Pinto case raise the moral issues of what is the dollar value of the human life. That the businesses should not be putting a value on human life and disregard a known deadly danger. In order to perform a risk/benefit analysis, all costs and benefits must be expressed in some common measure. This measure is typically in dollars, as the Ford Motor Company used in its analysis. This can prove difficult for things that are not commonly bought and sold on the open market. Therefore, totell someone that there is a certain price for their life is a preposterous notion. There are numerous things which individuals consider priceless. Ford thought they could get ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Friedman has argued, the role of business is to make money and a cost benefit analysis is a very useful tool in figuring out how to do so. When it comes to morals, however, cost benefit analysis is much less useful unless one believes in utilitarianism. For other understanding of morality, a person should not be asking what do I gain and lose when trying to figure out what to do. People should be asking what s the right thing to do . Cost benefit analysis can t really help with that. An examination of the Ford Pinto Case, the cost benefit analysis, will help raise the awareness and understanding of the diminishing value of ethics in the business world. When Ford conducted the cost benefit analysis, it analyzed what the potential benefit would be if they fixed every Pinto by installing the baffle piece. The result produced from the cost benefit analysis may be interpreted to say that it would have cost Ford $137 million to fix the Pintos by installing the baffle piece when it would have cost $49.5 million to leave the cars alone and deal with the expenses of injuries and deaths from the crashes. Ford decided that, because it would be cheaper, it would not install the baffle piece. According to De George, Ford did not tell the consumer that the car was not as safe as others, nor did it inform consumers that they had the option of purchasing the baffle piece (De George, 1995). In Ford contention is that these decision are moral ones, and that cost benefit analysis is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) Gene The Von Hippel Lindau (VHL) gene was first discovered as a tumor suppressor gene in 1993 by Latif, et al. (1). The gene was identified in an attempt to determine the driver of tumorigenesis in Von Hippel Lindau Disease. VHL disease is an autosomal dominant hereditary cancer syndrome that is characterized by tumor and cyst formation throughout the body, with those infected especially predisposed to hemangioblastomas of the central nervous system, eyes, pancreas, and kidney. Latif, et al. were able to match the gene region to chromosome 3p.25 26 by positional cloning and created a map of the region using pulsed field gel electrophoresis in order to isolate the prospective genes. The DNA of 221 VHL patients was then probed using specified plasmids to determine that there were 28 rearrangements present, with three large non overlapping deletions detected in the hypothesized VHL gene segment. This sequence was conserved across different species, with implications of its necessity for normal cellular function, pointing to its role as a tumor suppressor. Since part of the sequence of the protein product (pVHL) also matched (48%) to that of a surface membrane protein sequence in Trypanosoma brucei, pVHL is thought to have some role in signal transduction or cell adhesion as well. The VHL gene itself is made of three exon segments located on chromosome 3p25. Patients with VHL syndrome are heterozygotes of the VHL gene, with one allele that is a mutated or inactivated copy of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the most impacted areas includes a student s overall success in college. Many college students may say that high school was a breeze and claim to have done well by putting forth minimal effort. High schoolers are use to having a ton of free time, getting good grades without studying outside of the classroom, and barely having any homework at all. Once they make the transition to college, all of that changes. Quickly freshmen experience homework piling up and studying consumes more and more free time and all of this can lead to many anxiety issues and health problems if it gets too overwhelming. A student s college success can be defined as their level of success and fulfillment in academics and enjoyment of their life in college. There are many contributions that can help a student s college success as well as many contributions that can diminish it. This paper will be focusing on two main components that will help blossom a student s success in college. Most people go to college to learn and gain experience to help guide them in the right direction toward their career which is why having a successful college life is important no matter how long one attends. While there are many elements that can help with this, the two big ones that contribute are a student s involvement in activities outside of class and a proper, healthy diet. The first topic and most important, is a student s involvement with activities around the campus. This can be anything from sports, to presenting situations, or just sitting down and talking to a bunch of people. In high school these are known as extracurricular activities, though the same word may apply in college. Extracurricular activities provide students with a number of benefits. It can teach them the value of working together with others to accomplish a task, or teamwork. There are little to no downsides to joining clubs and if there are, the benefits outweigh the negatives. According to the U.S. News Education getting involved in college can allow students to become more connected with their school and help ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Application of biological processes for decontaminating the contaminated/polluted sites is a challenging task because heavy metals cannot be degraded and hence persist in the soil (Kidd et al., 2009; Lebeau et al., 2008; Maet al., 2011a; Rajkumar et al., 2010). Among heavy metals, Al (aluminium), Zn (zinc), Mn (manganese), Cr (chromium), Cu (copper), Cd (cadmium), Pb (lead) and Hg (mercury) are the common toxic metals (Emamverdian et al., 2015). I took this topic a bit differently as written above. I wrote about the relationships between the family members relating back to the mother and conflicts the family faces to please the mother. The book itself covers this topic pretty well the mother of the family, Addie, passes away leaving the family to grant her burial wishes. The story is told in the perspective of the people that knew her, especially her direct family. Even Addie narrates the story in the beginning before she passed. In the beginning of the story Addie is very ill and on the verge of dying. Her oldest son, Cash, is trying to make the best of the situation and decides to use his skills as a builder to design and construct her coffin. The day he finishes it she passes away causing the family much distress. Vardaman, the youngest child of Addie is the most confused in my eyes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On one hand we see all of the accomplishments he has achieved in baseball. You could argue that he is the greatest baseball player ever. The bottle itself is made out of plastic and is vertically symmetric, but not horizontally, since the upper most part has a funnel shape to accommodate the cap.The bottle is wrapped around by a plastic sheet that is centered slightly upwards and covers about two thirds of the cylindrical surface. The design and composition of plastic wrapping is unique. It contains different elements positioned in harmony with one another, but none in direct interaction. The most prominent drawing on the bottle is a side profile of a lynx in a yellow and blue shirt, inside a blue, oxford boot style ice skate, with its red scarf blowing to the left side, as if to show the idea of a wind. On the top left corner, a fox appears to be sitting on sled, and on the bottom right corner, a mouse seems to be playing a violin.
