Homer s The Odyssey
The Odyssey The Odyssey is one of two noteworthy antiquated Greek epic ballads ascribed to Homer.
It is, to some extent, a continuation of the Iliad, the other work credited to Homer. The Odyssey is
basic to the cutting edge Western ordinance, and is the second most seasoned surviving work of
Western writing; the Iliad is the most seasoned. Researchers trust the Odyssey was made close to the
end out of the eighth century BC, some place in Ionia, the Greek beach front area of Anatolia. The
lyric basically concentrates on the Greek saint Odysseus (known as Ulysses in Romanmyths), lord of
Ithaca, and his excursion home after the fall of Troy. It takes Odysseus ten years to achieve Ithaca
after the ten year Trojan War. In his nonattendance,

Elton Mayo And Alienation
Frederick Taylor, Elton Mayo, and Alienation
The nineteenth century was a time ripe with progress and hope due to booming industrialization. As
organizations and workforces grew, people looked for ways to increase their productivity and profit
margins. New ideas were needed to satisfy both business owners and their employees and as such,
along came theorists such as Marx or other contributors like Frederick Taylor and Elton Mayo. Taylor
produced a management style coined Scientific Management whereas Mayo took a slightly different
route and conducted the Hawthorne studies. Over the years theorists such as Marx, with his wildly
popular theory about alienation in the workplace, have shaped our view of how management should
be conducted in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believed that these employees were easily replaceable for less pay. These kinds of procedures and
ideas created an environment that was ripe for alienation. In an attempt to satisfy workers, In return
for a workers lost dignity, freedom, power and skill, Taylor promised higher pay (Hoopes 48). Taylor
also created the differential piece rate (Hoopes 38) which would further alienate workers from each
other, claiming it improved production. Overall, Taylor s theory of scientific management created a
good environment for business owners but it only fueled alienation between the workers and the
workers and society. Elton Mayo is best known for the Hawthorne effect. Mayo was well educated,
studying at several different universities including engineering at the University of Glasgow. Mayo
faced a lot of rejection during his career but his work greatly influenced our working environments
today. He believed that industries were destroying communal harmony and that production would
increase if the workers were better taken care of. He is quoted as saying that workers must rise above
indignation and frustration which the...new industrial society forced on workers (Hoopes 130). These
new managerial styles in addition to a capitalist leaning society created an unfriendly environment for
the majority of workers. Despite his attempts, his theories and ideas often fell

The Controversy on Eugenics in the American Culture Essay
Heredity improvement by genetic control. Why would people want to control heredity? What exactly
is genetic control? These are some things that people have been questioning for decades. Eugenics can
not be ignored because it is suddenly coming up everywhere. People are experimenting and taking
huge risks not to their knowledge. At one point in time it was said that eugenics could change the
world for the better. That is how some people could look at it, and others frightened that it would
change the entire universe. Early in the twentieth century science had to deal with the conditions that
improve the inborn qualities of a race. Eugenesists not only wanted to improve the well being of
others, but enclose to fewer races and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Boston Globe also found, in a call in telephone poll, that 49% supported sterilization of the
mentally ill. Other people feel that eugenics is what will in plain terms, make the world a better place.
Its been said that using a eugenics program will rid people of future diseases, and other illnesses. That
is why many think that using this procedure is good for all, but in fact it comes along with many
hidden deformities and abnormalities. Some people believe that improving genetic control is a
commendable idea, but others think that it seems a little immoral to try to change something, that in
the long run is better left alone.
This is where the arguments against eugenics programs come in. Government power over private
citizen s lives does not usually go over well. US state run programs have had problems with some
sterilization s that were not for good eugenic reasons.(Reilly, S.)Women were being sterilized so they
were not able to conceive.
Government programs have made mistakes and have suffered from some corruption. It has not always
been known to which traits were genetically influenced. Some people feel that there have been some
sterilization s done that have not contributed to improving genetic stock. There is still no knowledge
of which genes influence particular traits. A concern that has crossed many minds is that many traits
may be influenced by pleitropic genes. Which means that selecting a beneficial trait could also

Exciting Modifications
Since you have moved much has changed. Exciting modifications have transpired during past year.
Events including youth group, orchestra, and my own personal interests have taken dramatic turns.
Changes for the better and worse have been established. Youth group has altered noticeably only
recently. Instead of Impact it is titled six7; similarly, they have changed their logo as well. Although I
will constantly support youth group as a whole, I am having trouble adjusting to this change.
Currently we are in a lesson series called I Am. It elaborates on topics about self confidence. Pete does
a wonderful job engaging the audience, which is an impressive feat. Our friends are doing fine. They
are involved with multiple activities. This and youth group keeps them occupied. All in all, youth

of the year. The difference between Honors and regular orchestra is that you need to try out for
Honors. There are 13 members; three first violins, three second violins, four violas, two cellos, and
one bass. I was fortunate to be placed as a second violin. My family is immensely proud. Our music
this year is exhilarating. We are playing contemporary songs and multiple classics. I have practiced
often only to find that the music is interestingly challenging. In addition, I have met numerous people
due to the incoming seventh graders. Having doubled the size of our orchestra to a truly incredible
size, the seventh graders are extraordinarily talented and enthusiastic. The orchestra program has, and

Allocation Rates And Its Effects On The Current Allocation...
allocation rates to make them more efficient. Second, policy makers could change allocations to
reflect more accurate precipitation rates along with being more efficient. Third, a market based system
could be implemented allowing for tradeable water rights much like the market system in Australia.
All of these policy options would solve the inefficiencies in the current allocation rates. They would
not solve the supply and demand complications due to the ongoing drought or growing populations.
The first option would simply change the allocation of water making it more efficient and removing
any potential deadweight loss that may otherwise exist. The second option would merely make
allocation rates more efficient by basing them off of more accurate precipitation amounts. The third,
would make it easier for water rights to be traded, leading to a more efficient outcome through trading
rather than mandating consumption amounts.
Method
To start with the first policy option an effort must take place to test the efficiency of current allocation
rates. In an attempt to do so, a simple model will be used to determine what an efficient allocation
would be. To further simplify the model, it will consist of only Upper and Lower basins, averaging
statistics taken from the states located within each basin. This simple model will allow variables to be
changed to help identify how they interact with the efficient allocation of water. To perform this
model, it is necessary to have a demand

India was lucrative since the Indian handheld market is booming and slowly becoming one of the
world s biggest and fasted growing markets. There being a lack of certain technology, gives HTC the
opportunities to fill new market gaps. The company s products are standardized for the global market,
while strategies are adapted to respected countries. HTC seems to be efficiency seeking when looking
especially at the Indian market. HTC is selling phones globally and in India they are trying to succeed
through International Specialization. The company was benefiting at first, from the lack of top of the
line mobile phones in the Indian market. Its future strategy is to keep this trend going. The company is
trying to take over the top and middle class mobile phone market in India by being the first to offer the
latest and greatest technology available and ignoring the lower class mobile market. It managed to do
so already by introducing the first fully touch phone and fully Android powered phone. HTC s Indian
Market Entry Strategy In 2007, HTC made its entry into the Indian market with the collaborative
launch of the HTC Touch together with Bhartia Airtel. Their portfolio of devices has been rising

suicide bombings occurred in the capital of France, Paris. The attackers killed 130 people and
wounded 368 serious injuries. Just 10 months previous, on January 7, 2015 two terrorists attacked

dangerous with terrorism, criminals, mass shootings, and so forth. We re not safe from anything.
Today, I am going to tell you about the right to carry concealed gun and why we need it. I have
researched both sides of this controversy, and the need to carry concealed gun is the stronger
argument. According to Deborah Homsher, author of Women Guns: Politics and the Culture of
Firearms in America, when states passed the laws which give adults the right to carry concealed guns
if they don t have a criminal record or mental illness, the number of multiple victim shootings
declined by 84 percent (265). Furthermore, a 2015 report from the Crime Prevention Research found
that the number of concealed guns permits has soared, growing from 4.6 million in 2007 to over 12.8

Jones and Nicholas are against communism/animalism. Mr. Jones and Nicholas both didn;t prove

what they needed and wanted. His belief in the absolute power of the monarchy resulted in Nicholas
immediate dismissal of any proposals for more democratic forms of government. Nicholas isolated
and mistrustful nature would not allow him to compromise his own beliefs for the good of the country
(ESCO). Nicholas wouldn t give new ideas for reform a chance instead he isolated himself from his
people. Most of this time Mr. Jones had spent sitting in the taproom of the Red Lion at Willingdon,
complaining to anyone who would listen of the monstrous injustice he had suffered in being turned
out of his property by a pack of good for nothing animals ( Orwell 30). Mr. Jones Spent his time
complaining about what the animals did to him instead of confronting his problems. Mr. Jones

Essay about The Threat of Anne Hutchinson
The Threat of Anne Hutchinson
In Puritan led Massachusetts Bay Colony during the days of Anne Hutchinson was an intriguing place
to have lived. It was designed ideally as a holy mission in the New World called the city upon a hill, a
mission to provide a prime example of how protestant lives should have subsisted of. A key ingredient
to the success of the Puritan community was the cohesion of the community as a whole, which was
created by a high level of conformity in the colony. Puritan leaders provided leadership for all facets
of life; socially, economically, religiously, and even politically. A certain hierarchy was very apparent
in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, in which ministers always seemed to have gotten their way. ... Show

In the trial against Anne Hutchinson, she was charged, in a vague manner, to be a danger to the colony
because of the spreading of her Antinomian opinions at her meetings. Throughout the entire trial Anne
was slowly being backed into a corner in which ideally she would have then broken down and
admitted to doing all the wrongs in which Governor Winthrop believed she was guilty of, but she
never really did. The evidence against her was so weak in nature, that it seemed that Winthrop, along
with all the other elders and deputies, really needed a confession to completely justify her banishment.
Though unsuccessful in their efforts, even when it was brought up by the Deputy Governor that Anne
went to a meeting of ministers and told them all that they preached the covenant of works to their very
faces, Anne stayed with the Fifth Amendment technique and denied nothing, while admitting nothing.
Where I believe she might have messed up is when she attested to the probability of her saying this of
the ministers in private. By saying that, she more than admitted to being of the same mindset of the
ostracized Antinomians. This in turn gave the hungry judges/jury enough evidence for the banishment.
It is my understanding that Anne s type of mischief was not too uncommon for that time period in
Massachusetts. Meetings were held all over between Puritans discussing religious topics such as
Biblical translations and weekly sermons

The Characters of I M Not Scared Essay
Michele Amitrano Michele s compassion is his most prominent characteristic that makes him
appealing to the reader. Throughout the novel, he exhibits empathy well beyond his years, often
making readers forget that he is just nine. This can be seen clearly in three main instances. First, when
he goes after his sister when she has fallen over (pg. 4) despite his own fears. Secondly, offering to
complete the forfeit in place of Barbra when Skull forces her to complete an embarrassing forfeit.
Finally, and most evidently, when he takes care of Filippo. This makes for a positive contrast with the
rest of Acqua Traverse who seem to lack any compassion. When describing places and characters he

upbringings are contrasting. Filippo is obviously from a rich background. He speaks of his electric
train set (pg. 86). His mother, after appealing to his kidnappers on TV, appears to be in ‘a big leather
armchair in a room full of books (pg. 86). Michele s upbringing is the complete opposite. His bike,
The Crock, is old and previously belonged to Pino (pg. 6), and he longs for a new one, however
understands his family cannot afford it. He shares a corridor turned room with his sister and his house
is small. Despite all the differences in their lifestyle, Michele and Filippo share many of the same
personal attributes, like honesty. Their actions and thoughts also depict a very same innocence, and
childlike imagination. Felice Natale Felice boasted that he would kill Filippo so he could gain power
over Michele. He knows Filippo is important to Michele and used that to ensure he had ultimate
authority over him. Felice has no friends in the Acqua Traverse area. On some level, becoming

When the first iMac was released in 1998, Jonathan Ive s team created a computer for the public no
one had ever seen before. iMacs were colorful, simple to plug in, and showed a smooth design while
many other personal computers were shaped like a box, clumsy and took up a lot of space. The
graphic design of the iMac helped change the industries approach by giving the public a computer that
was more functional and for the first time could be personalized by choosing a color that might fit the

Controversy Of Advertisement
Argumentative Essay
In today s society the only way to become a famous musician is to have good music that fans will like.
One of the ways fans learn about an artist s new songs is through ads. A fan would be watching TV or
listening to music on their smartphone, and an ad might pop up with their favorite artist s new song.
The fan would most likely wonder what is was and download it. Artists should continue to allow their
music to be placed in advertisements because it helps them earn money, and it can help them get
recognized.
First, using ads can help the artist earn more money. Some artists only make U.S. minimum wage for
their music, so advertising and making corporate deals can really help. A band called Oh, Sleeper is an
example. Out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes fans will feel betrayed when they see their favorite song in a burger commercial and
instead of gaining popularity the artist will actually lose it and get very strong negative feedback. Take
U2 for example one of the world s most popular rock bands who after, landing a deal with Apple that
had their 2014 album Songs of Innocence installed into 500 million iTunes subscribers libraries for
free, faces a storm of negative feedback from fans and critics alike. People resented the idea that an
album they didn t ask for was forced on them, likening the album to musical spam, and the reputations
of both U2 and Apple were damaged. (Source 2 Paragraph 8) Although doing this can hurt the
reputation of artists it can help them as well. They can earn way more money, get famous quickly and
live a good life. It is a risk artists are willing to take because making music is their livelihood not just
their hobby.
To conclude, signing off songs, albums, and making commercials can be a risk, there are way more
benefits than cons. Besides if an artist doesn t want his or her music on streaming apps, they can just
tell those companies to stop streaming their music, which may increase sales of downloads of an artist
s music since it is not being streamed. Everyone knows that ads help and making deals help so why
make a big deal? It is an artist s choice and if they want to

A Career In Paleontology
The career I am writing about is paleontology. Paleontology has many different parts to it such as the
skills and traits you need. There is also a lot of training you have to go through and courses you have
to take. For example, did you know that it could be up to 7 years ( schooling and training included) or
more before you are actually on the field? You also need to be experienced in a lot of subjects and
techniques for excavation and fieldwork. Those are some of the many parts of paleontology that I will
be going into more detail later. Like I said before there are many parts in paleontology including
training. Responsibilities, conditions, and the different fields you can work in are a big part of
training. Time management is a big responsibility in this career. You could be gone on an excavation
for a long time depending where the excavation is. It can be as far as other countries! Another
responsibility is being prepared for the harsh conditions you might face on your excavations. Lastly,
the different fields/ parts of this career are big responsibilities because you need to know what you
have to do and when you need to do it. You also need a ton of training and time in school. For
example, a four year college course in biology is required and even after that you re probably not

Passages Of Jane s Jane Eyre
Passages Her beauty, her pink cheeks and golden curls, seemed to give delight to all who looked at
her, and to purchase indemnity for every fault. (page 16) o Upon reading this quote, I felt that the
majority of people in this novel were shallow as they valued looks over everything else. Since Jane
was not as beautiful as the others, she was always the scapegoat no matter what went wrong. o This
line seems to give the reader a better sense of the characters within the story. Oh! I saw a light, and
thought a ghost would come. (page 18) o Why would she think that there would be a ghost? Did the
author leave out a part of the story? This may have been alluding to the fact that Jane was delirious
from being in that room and possibly from the lack of food. After reading ahead, the author explains
that Uncle Reed (Jane s Uncle) died in that room as it was his bedroom. Missis was, she dared say,
glad enough to get rid of such a tire some, ill conditioned child, who always looked as if she were
watching everybody, and scheming plots underhand. (page 26). o As I was reading this quote, I was
thinking to myself, I wonder if Jane would have been better accepted if her father/mother had been
rich? Would that have changed things entirely? o Also, Jane s mother was cut off by her father (Jane s
Grand Father) because he felt that the marriage to Jane s father was beneath her. Maybe, had this
hatred from the grandfather not existed, Jane would have been treated more

Organizational Change and Resistance Intervention
Organizational Change and Resistance Intervention Honor Student University of Somewhere
Organizational Change and Resistance Intervention Growth within any organization brings about a
certain amount of change, and this can be unsettling to some individuals who have grown accustomed
to a certain way of doing things, as well as a feeling of being overwhelmed with new functionalities
and a sense that their once close nit family oriented business has exploded into an organization where
they are now just a number on a spreadsheet. This can be the springboard towards resistance to

Instituting such change as self managed work teams or participative decision making can threaten
middle managers and supervisors, and a change to resource allocations that could possibly mean a cut
in staff size or a reduction in budget will definitely be seen as a threat by those groups within an
organization that are in control of sizable resources (Explore HR, n.d.). There are numerous ways to
decrease, or mitigate resistance to change; some of which are: * Education and Communication *
Participation and Involvement * Building Support and Commitment * Manipulation and Co option *
Coercion Of the ones mentioned here, most believe education and communication are among the top
methods of mitigating and overcoming resistance to change. Communicating and educating your
personnel and organization with regard to the change in advance can aid employees in visualizing the
logic in the change effort, which can be extremely beneficial to reducing resistance as it can alleviate
the possibility of unsubstantiated and inaccurate rumors relating to the effects of the change on the
organization. Participation and involvement is also extremely important, because when employees are
actually involved in the change effort they are generally more likely to accept it, rather than resist it.
Building support and commitment is essential on the part of management throughout the change
process. The support of management will help employees cope with fear and

Analysis of the Financial and the Profitability Ratios
1. Current Ratio helps us measure the ability of a company to pay off its short term debts using its
most liquid assets. 1.5 is the benchmark. If it s less than 1 that means the company is not able to meet
its current liabilities using its liquid assets.

Current assets 278,200 326,100 348,200 217,000

(252,900)
Current Ratio 0.90 1.05 1.03 0.86
Interpretation and Explanation
In case of BBC, we can observe a positive trend. There has been a significant increase in the ratio.
However in 2007, the company s current liabilities were higher than the current assets. But over the
next two consecutive years 2008 and 2009, the company s assets were enough to pay off the short
term debts, and this is a positive sign. Talking about the current year 2010, the current ratio is below
the benchmark, but the cash reserves are more. we can see a constant change in the values of current
assets in a positive trend for last three years, however, not for the year 2010. Again there has been
increase in current liabilities substantially. This can be one of the reasons for a funding cut of £340m
this year by BBC as George Osborne confirms the news on Oct 20th 2010.

Article Info ABSTRACT
Subspace model identification (SMI) method is the effective method in identifying dynamic state
space linear multivariable systems. Subspace identification, a sequence of state vectors can be
obtained directly from the input and output data. From a numerical point of view, the SMI algorithms
are not appropriate for online implementation because of the SVD computational complexity. For
industrial applications, it is essential to have online recursive algorithms for model identification,
where parameters can vary in time. Indeed, in many online identification scenarios, it is important to
update the model as time goes on with a reduced computational cost. The main problem with recursive
subspace identification is the SVD computation that is burdensome to update. Thus, it is necessary to
find the alternative algorithms in order to apply the subspace concept in a recursive framework. In this
paper, recursive subspace identification algorithm based on the propagator method which avoid the
SVD computation is proposed.

The Stages Of Piaget s Development Theory
This essay is concerned with the Concrete Operational Stage of Piaget s development theory, which he
described as a major turning point in a child s cognitive development as it is the beginning of logical
thought processes (Piaget, 1954). This typically occurs between seven and eleven years of age. It will
describe the developmental tests used to evidence development and evaluate the strengths and
weakness of the theory in relation to the stage and tests used. During this stage, children develop and
are able to use logical reasoning as long as it can be applied to concrete and specific examples they are
familiar with, such as their own experiences and people, places and objects they know and have
experienced however, abstract thought and what if scenarios are still beyond their thinking. They are
able to understand conservation, which Mcleod.S.A (2010) defines as understanding that something
remains the same even though its appearance changes, which coincides with the development of
reversibility and knowing that numbers/object appearances can be changed and then returned to their
original condition with no lasting effects. It is a mental process which allows the reversal of a chain of
events or restoration of a changed state to original condition (Piaget,J Inhelder,B. 1956). Their
classification skills increase allowing objects to be grouped by mass, weight, height and colour and
class inclusion develops, enabling the child to further separate the classified groups of

The Importance Of Premarital Counseling
1. Borowski, S. C., Tambling, R. B. (2015). Applying the health belief model to young individuals
beliefs and preferences about premarital counseling. The Family Journal, 23(4), 417 426.
doi:10.1177/1066480715602221 The article talks about the effectiveness of the premarital counseling
programs as an as well as a program that is been underutilized by the younger generation. Hence, the
authors propose a research to examine young adults and their therapy preferences as well as what
factors influence them to participate in a premarital program. The factors measured were
sociodemographic, therapy preferences, constructs, and barriers to attending to the programs. In the
end, the results proved that premarital program should be concentrating on aspects such as the benefits
for the individuals and minimize the barriers. Another aspect revealed the results were the various
counseling preferences to increase the number of individuals on the program. In fact, it is crucial to
adjust these programs to the preferences of the population. The above article is effective to my future
practice as a Family Therapist since I truly believe that premarital counseling helps individuals to get
prepared for a new phase in their lives. After reading the article, I was capable to comprehend how
crucial is to create effective programs that work aligned to the client s preferences. My line of thinking
and passion is to develop a premarital counseling program that is affordable, fast, convenient and

A Research of the Reliability and Validity of the PSYGAT on Different Linguistic Backgrounds
Abstract
The issue of cultural bias in intelligence tests sparks debates every time the latter is created or
administered, resulting to many researches into how the reliability and validity of an ability test may
differ when assessed on groups from different cultural linguistic backgrounds. The aim of this study is
to test the reliability and validity of the PSYGAT Verbal IQ Test on university students from English
speaking backgrounds (ESB) and non English speaking backgrounds (NESB) in relation to the
Queendom Verbal IQ Test and Cultural Fair IQ Test. 445 third year psychology students aged 19 to 62

Participants
Participants of this study were 445 third year Psychology students; 354 females and 91 males, from
Monash University Campuses in Australia, Malaysia, South Africa and the Singaporean off campus,
involving participants with a wide variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Participants were
aged 19 to 62 (M = 23.53, SD = 7.08), in which two participants failed to provide their age
information. They were categorized as either from an English speaking background (ESB) or a non
English speaking background (NESB) based on the first language information they provided at the
end of each tests (Queendom Verbal IQ and Cultural Fair IQ Test, and PSYGAT). 319 participants
were categorized to the ESB group and 126 participants to the NESB group.
Materials
Participants had to complete the Queendom Verbal IQ and Cultural Fair IQ Tests, and the PSYGAT.
All these three tests can be accessed through their Monash Blackboard site. The Queendom Verbal IQ
Test comprised of 70 items which includes items on analogies, idioms and expressions, vocabulary
and reading comprehensions, with the objective assessing verbal abilities. With a sample size of

Beauty And The Beast In Being There And The Bloody Chamber
In the novels Being There and The Bloody Chamber there are several examples of characters
constantly changing throughout the telling of the novel. Many of the characters of The Bloody
Chamber are creatures who are half human and half beast, or else undergo some change from beast to
human or vice versa. In Being There, we see Chance transform from a simple gardener to a man who
is respected and loved by the whole country seemingly in a blink of an eye. Transformation revealing
some idea of truth is a common theme of folk and fairy tales. In the original Beauty and the Beast the
creature is rescued by the goodness of a true woman who restores him to his handsome self. Carter s
two retellings of the tale offer something quite different. Mr. Lyon loses his attractive and powerful
animal qualities and ends up looking unkempt ( The Courtship of Mr. Lyon , p. 54). In The Tiger s
Bride it is not The Beast, but Beauty who is transformed. Having dispatched her replica to the real
world of her father, she is free to shed all the skins of a life in the world (p. 75) and become a beast
herself. Carter inverts the traditional transformation from beast to human and its symbolism. To be
beast like is to be virtuous; to become manly is to be vicious. The Snow Child offers a different view
on metamorphosis: a wish can become reality, but can just as easily be wished away. The transitory
nature of male desire is emphasized by the melting away of the child: Soon there was nothing

Racial Stacking in Football
Social Constructs Behind Racial Stacking and Stereotypes in Football
Sport as an institution has seen many of its records and barriers shattered over its countless years of
existence. For instance, sport has seen Jackie Robinson break the color barrier in Major League
Baseball, and Billie Jean King defeat former champion Bobby Riggs in The battle of the sexes . One
barrier that still exists in sports today is racial stacking and stereotyping. The social phenomenon of
racial stacking and stereotyping within the institution of sport has profoundly hindered the
development and participation of particular races in different dimensions of sport. Racial stacking is a
term coined by sociologists which refers to the over or under representation ... Show more content on

Speculations arose as to Owens having an extra bone in his leg, or elongated bones, all of which were
proven to be false. Scientist found that biology was not a determinant in an individual s ability to excel
in sports; rather dedication, determination, and training are more influential factors (Dyreson, 2008).
One socioligical explanation as to why African Americans excel in athletics is because it is viewed as
a way of upward social and financial mobility. Being one of the world s largest institutions, sports
generate billions of dollars in revenue each year. Specifically, the National Football League generates
six billion dollars in revenue a year (Sports Industry Overview, 2009). The life of an NFL player is
filled with fame, fortune and limitless opportunites, something that the majority of young children
dream about. The reason we see more African Americans succeeding in sports is because they have
limited resources and opportunities for upward social mobility elsewhere. With the poverty rate
among African Americans so high (24.7 %) they often do not have the resources to excel in education
so instead they look to sports as a way of socio economic advancement (Bureau, Poverty, 2009).
Sports sociologist Harry Edwards defines this concept of black youth using sports as a way of social
mobility as blind faith . Edwards explains three reasons as to why black families push their

Summary Of Utiima By Ultima
In the novel, Antonio s uncle, Lucas, was on the verge of dying due to a curse placed upon him by
witches. A priest and a doctor had tried to deal with Lucas illness, but were unsuccessful at their
attempts at doing so. It was noted that Lucas had witnessed Tenorio s daughters performing a satanic
ritual, also known as the Black Mass . Afterwards, Lucas had tried to test whether or not Tenorio s
daughters were indeed witches, but they had ran away once they noticed a makeshift cross. As all
other measures had been taken, Lucas brother, Pedro, had asked Ultima to help. Ultima had agreed to
help, but before Ultima would attend to Uncle Lucas, she has a confrontation with Tenorio. Within the
story, the reader comes to understand that Ultima blames the curse placed on Lucas on the daughters
of Tenorio. I have come to lift a curse. It is your daughters who do evil, that are brujas. (Bless Me,
Ultima pg.39). This upsets Tenorio, and creates an argument between the two. Ultima goes on giving
Tenorio an ultimatum if he does not try to convince his daughters to lift the curse on Lucas. After
Ultima, threatens the daughters with an ultimatum, Tenorio goes on to call Ultima a bruja . Later in the
novel, news arrives that Tenorio s daughter has died. Narciso had told everyone in the Márez home
that Tenorio and a mob were on their way to see Ultima, as they have claimed to have found Ultima s
herbal pouch under the daughter s bed. Once the mob has arrived, it was noted that a

Compare And Contrast Pzarro And Hernan Cortes
Hernan Cortes and Francisco Pizarro managed to bring down the administration and basic structure of
the Aztec Empire and Inca Empire with only a few hundred men by utilizing various advantages that
they possessed. Both men had far superior weaponry than the natives that they fought however the
natives could have countered this with just sheer numbers and utilizing the terrain that they knew so
well. What really allowed these men to dominate their enemies was their strategies and experience.
Both men were also aided by the diseases that they brought with them, devastating the native
population for decades. Hernan Cortes was a Spanish Conquistador who dreamed of riches, a title of
nobility, and fame. He planned to obtain these by leading an expedition into the New World. Spaniard
s dreamed that conquering Mexico would give them great wealth and Cortes as able to do this. He
conquered parts of Mexico and caused the fall of the Aztec Empire. Cortes was so successful because
he was a remarkable strategist. One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the native s total isolation from the rest of the civilized world, they had been prevented from
developing immunities against many devastating diseases. These diseases were carried into the
country unaware by the conquistadors from Europe and Africa. For example, smallpox reached
Espanola by 1518 and was carried to New Spain in 1520. It then moved through Central America and
entered Peru by 1527. Wherever the disease passed, it left a detrimental death toll in its wake. There
are many accounts of villages that lost half or more of their population, some even lost as high as 90%
of their population. Many more disease continued to slowly decimate the natives, such as measles
typhus, influenza, yellow fever, malaria diphtheria and the bubonic plague. Within the next 100 year
of disease, the native s population became less than 10% what it was in the

Christopher Seitz s The, The Divine, Miraculous...
I turned to a number of commentaries with these questions in mind. Christopher Seitz cites the opinion
of C. Westermann that the salvation referred to in this chapter is brought about by the divine,
miraculous transformation of a condition, the nation s oppression and impoverishment, into its
opposite rather than it being brought about by an historical event. Seitz comments that by God
becoming Zion s everlasting light, Zion s exaltation has cosmic, transnational consequences. I found
this unconvincing in the face of the fact that we have not seen the exaltation of Zion during the period
of the text. One would have to remove it entirely from history and see this as an apocalyptic text,
which my passed study of Isaiah has shown not to be true. I moved on to Joseph Blenkinsopp, who as
usual, did not disappoint. Here I found the historical context of this section of Isaiah. Blenkinsopp
referred back to Isaiah 58 to shed light on why the vision of theophany in Isaiah 60 had not been
realized. Cyrus had release the Jews from Babylonian captivity, and those who wished to had returned
to Jerusalem. But the dominant frame of mind of the people being address (in Isaiah 58) is one of
disorientation and disillusionment. There is corruption in the government and judicial system, and
among the religious leaders. The poor are neglected. Jerusalem suffers under external pressures and
internal dissention. In chapter 60 the vision is unfulfilled; in chapter 58, God tells the

Hedge Funds Feature Returns Different From Those Of Mutual...
Hedge funds feature returns different from those of mutual funds. The different trading strategies and
investment styles are amongst a few factors that explain the difference (Boyson, 2010). The
institutional and individual investors create a common pool of funds and employ professional
managers to manage the fund. Ideally the manager is compensated from two sets of fees: management
fee and performance fee. They impose a management fee based on the size of the asset managed,
usually at the rate between 1 2%. A performance fee will be imposed at the rate between 20 30% of
the returns on the investments made (lecture notes).
Unlike mutual funds who only charge a management fee, much of the hedge funds compensation
structure is linked to the fund performance. To avoid cases of managers charging the investor
performance fees twice for the same returns, there is a prescription that managers should not charge
any fee for a fund that has lost ground (Boyson, 2010). However, when the performance surpasses the
previous performance level known as a ?high water mark?, the manager can charge the performance
fees once again. Furthermore, many funds may also carry out a hurdle rate that managers must achieve
before they charge any incentive fees (lecture notes).
Related Agency Issues and solutions
Agency issues arise when one party (principal) gives another party (agent) an authority to act on his
behalf. In this context, the principal is the investor while the professional hedge fund

this story Phoenix travels through woods, grasslands, farms, and hills. While facing many hardships
and violence, Phoenix comes across the four major difficulties in this story being her age, blindness,
vulnerability, and ethnicity during this time period. Phoenix is very elderly as the story shows very
often revealing plainly to the reader that Phoenix is old, and that she has the difficulties that come with
the elderly age. For example in the story the writer states Her skin had a pattern all its own of
numberless branching wrinkles (Page 9). With Phoenix being most likely blind, as the writer states

  • 2. Homer s The Odyssey The Odyssey The Odyssey is one of two noteworthy antiquated Greek epic ballads ascribed to Homer. It is, to some extent, a continuation of the Iliad, the other work credited to Homer. The Odyssey is basic to the cutting edge Western ordinance, and is the second most seasoned surviving work of Western writing; the Iliad is the most seasoned. Researchers trust the Odyssey was made close to the end out of the eighth century BC, some place in Ionia, the Greek beach front area of Anatolia. The lyric basically concentrates on the Greek saint Odysseus (known as Ulysses in Romanmyths), lord of Ithaca, and his excursion home after the fall of Troy. • 3. Elton Mayo And Alienation Frederick Taylor, Elton Mayo, and Alienation The nineteenth century was a time ripe with progress and hope due to booming industrialization. As organizations and workforces grew, people looked for ways to increase their productivity and profit margins. New ideas were needed to satisfy both business owners and their employees and as such, along came theorists such as Marx or other contributors like Frederick Taylor and Elton Mayo. Taylor produced a management style coined Scientific Management whereas Mayo took a slightly different route and conducted the Hawthorne studies. Over the years theorists such as Marx, with his wildly popular theory about alienation in the workplace, have shaped our view of how management should be conducted in ... These kinds of procedures and ideas created an environment that was ripe for alienation. In an attempt to satisfy workers, In return for a workers lost dignity, freedom, power and skill, Taylor promised higher pay (Hoopes 48). Taylor also created the differential piece rate (Hoopes 38) which would further alienate workers from each other, claiming it improved production. Overall, Taylor s theory of scientific management created a good environment for business owners but it only fueled alienation between the workers and the workers and society. Elton Mayo is best known for the Hawthorne effect. Mayo was well educated, studying at several different universities including engineering at the University of Glasgow. Mayo faced a lot of rejection during his career but his work greatly influenced our working environments today. He believed that industries were destroying communal harmony and that production would increase if the workers were better taken care of. He is quoted as saying that workers must rise above indignation and frustration which the...new industrial society forced on workers (Hoopes 130). These new managerial styles in addition to a capitalist leaning society created an unfriendly environment for the majority of workers. Despite his attempts, his theories and ideas often fell ... • 4. The Controversy on Eugenics in the American Culture Essay Heredity improvement by genetic control. Why would people want to control heredity? What exactly is genetic control? These are some things that people have been questioning for decades. Eugenics can not be ignored because it is suddenly coming up everywhere. People are experimenting and taking huge risks not to their knowledge. At one point in time it was said that eugenics could change the world for the better. That is how some people could look at it, and others frightened that it would change the entire universe. Early in the twentieth century science had to deal with the conditions that improve the inborn qualities of a race. Eugenesists not only wanted to improve the well being of others, but enclose to fewer races and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Boston Globe also found, in a call in telephone poll, that 49% supported sterilization of the mentally ill. Other people feel that eugenics is what will in plain terms, make the world a better place. Its been said that using a eugenics program will rid people of future diseases, and other illnesses. That is why many think that using this procedure is good for all, but in fact it comes along with many hidden deformities and abnormalities. Some people believe that improving genetic control is a commendable idea, but others think that it seems a little immoral to try to change something, that in the long run is better left alone. This is where the arguments against eugenics programs come in. Government power over private citizen s lives does not usually go over well. US state run programs have had problems with some sterilization s that were not for good eugenic reasons.(Reilly, S.)Women were being sterilized so they were not able to conceive. Government programs have made mistakes and have suffered from some corruption. It has not always been known to which traits were genetically influenced. Some people feel that there have been some sterilization s done that have not contributed to improving genetic stock. There is still no knowledge of which genes influence particular traits. A concern that has crossed many minds is that many traits may be influenced by pleitropic genes. Which means that selecting a beneficial trait could also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Allocation Rates And Its Effects On The Current Allocation... allocation rates to make them more efficient. Second, policy makers could change allocations to reflect more accurate precipitation rates along with being more efficient. Third, a market based system could be implemented allowing for tradeable water rights much like the market system in Australia. All of these policy options would solve the inefficiencies in the current allocation rates. They would not solve the supply and demand complications due to the ongoing drought or growing populations. The first option would simply change the allocation of water making it more efficient and removing any potential deadweight loss that may otherwise exist. The second option would merely make allocation rates more efficient by basing them off of more accurate precipitation amounts. The third, would make it easier for water rights to be traded, leading to a more efficient outcome through trading rather than mandating consumption amounts. Method To start with the first policy option an effort must take place to test the efficiency of current allocation rates. In an attempt to do so, a simple model will be used to determine what an efficient allocation would be. To further simplify the model, it will consist of only Upper and Lower basins, averaging statistics taken from the states located within each basin. This simple model will allow variables to be changed to help identify how they interact with the efficient allocation of water. To perform this model, it is necessary to have a demand ... • 10. Essay about The Threat of Anne Hutchinson The Threat of Anne Hutchinson In Puritan led Massachusetts Bay Colony during the days of Anne Hutchinson was an intriguing place to have lived. It was designed ideally as a holy mission in the New World called the city upon a hill, a mission to provide a prime example of how protestant lives should have subsisted of. A key ingredient to the success of the Puritan community was the cohesion of the community as a whole, which was created by a high level of conformity in the colony. Puritan leaders provided leadership for all facets of life; socially, economically, religiously, and even politically. A certain hierarchy was very apparent in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, in which ministers always seemed to have gotten their way. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the trial against Anne Hutchinson, she was charged, in a vague manner, to be a danger to the colony because of the spreading of her Antinomian opinions at her meetings. Throughout the entire trial Anne was slowly being backed into a corner in which ideally she would have then broken down and admitted to doing all the wrongs in which Governor Winthrop believed she was guilty of, but she never really did. The evidence against her was so weak in nature, that it seemed that Winthrop, along with all the other elders and deputies, really needed a confession to completely justify her banishment. Though unsuccessful in their efforts, even when it was brought up by the Deputy Governor that Anne went to a meeting of ministers and told them all that they preached the covenant of works to their very faces, Anne stayed with the Fifth Amendment technique and denied nothing, while admitting nothing. Where I believe she might have messed up is when she attested to the probability of her saying this of the ministers in private. By saying that, she more than admitted to being of the same mindset of the ostracized Antinomians. This in turn gave the hungry judges/jury enough evidence for the banishment. It is my understanding that Anne s type of mischief was not too uncommon for that time period in Massachusetts. Meetings were held all over between Puritans discussing religious topics such as Biblical translations and weekly sermons ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the novel, he exhibits empathy well beyond his years, often making readers forget that he is just nine. This can be seen clearly in three main instances. First, when he goes after his sister when she has fallen over (pg. 4) despite his own fears. Secondly, offering to complete the forfeit in place of Barbra when Skull forces her to complete an embarrassing forfeit. Finally, and most evidently, when he takes care of Filippo. Filippo is obviously from a rich background. He speaks of his electric train set (pg. 86). Take U2 for example one of the world s most popular rock bands who after, landing a deal with Apple that had their 2014 album Songs of Innocence installed into 500 million iTunes subscribers libraries for free, faces a storm of negative feedback from fans and critics alike. People resented the idea that an album they didn t ask for was forced on them, likening the album to musical spam, and the reputations of both U2 and Apple were damaged. (Source 2 Paragraph 8) Although doing this can hurt the reputation of artists it can help them as well. They can earn way more money, get famous quickly and live a good life. It is a risk artists are willing to take because making music is their livelihood not just their hobby. To conclude, signing off songs, albums, and making commercials can be a risk, there are way more benefits than cons. Besides if an artist doesn t want his or her music on streaming apps, they can just tell those companies to stop streaming their music, which may increase sales of downloads of an artist s music since it is not being streamed. There is also a lot of training you have to go through and courses you have to take. For example, did you know that it could be up to 7 years ( schooling and training included) or more before you are actually on the field? You also need to be experienced in a lot of subjects and techniques for excavation and fieldwork. Those are some of the many parts of paleontology that I will be going into more detail later. Like I said before there are many parts in paleontology including training. Responsibilities, conditions, and the different fields you can work in are a big part of training. Time management is a big responsibility in this career. You could be gone on an excavation for a long time depending where the excavation is. It can be as far as other countries! Another responsibility is being prepared for the harsh conditions you might face on your excavations. Lastly, the different fields/ parts of this career are big responsibilities because you need to know what you have to do and when you need to do it. (page 16) o Upon reading this quote, I felt that the majority of people in this novel were shallow as they valued looks over everything else. Since Jane was not as beautiful as the others, she was always the scapegoat no matter what went wrong. o This line seems to give the reader a better sense of the characters within the story. Oh! I saw a light, and thought a ghost would come. (page 18) o Why would she think that there would be a ghost? Did the author leave out a part of the story? This may have been alluding to the fact that Jane was delirious from being in that room and possibly from the lack of food. After reading ahead, the author explains that Uncle Reed (Jane s Uncle) died in that room as it was his bedroom. Missis was, she dared say, glad enough to get rid of such a tire some, ill conditioned child, who always looked as if she were watching everybody, and scheming plots underhand. (page 26). o As I was reading this quote, I was thinking to myself, I wonder if Jane would have been better accepted if her father/mother had been rich? Would that have changed things entirely? o Also, Jane s mother was cut off by her father (Jane s Grand Father) because he felt that the marriage to Jane s father was beneath her. There are numerous ways to decrease, or mitigate resistance to change; some of which are: * Education and Communication * Participation and Involvement * Building Support and Commitment * Manipulation and Co option * Coercion Of the ones mentioned here, most believe education and communication are among the top methods of mitigating and overcoming resistance to change. Communicating and educating your personnel and organization with regard to the change in advance can aid employees in visualizing the logic in the change effort, which can be extremely beneficial to reducing resistance as it can alleviate the possibility of unsubstantiated and inaccurate rumors relating to the effects of the change on the organization. Recursive Subspace Identification Algorithm using the Propagator Based Method Irma Wani Jamaludin1 and Norhaliza Abdul Wahab2 1Department of Mechatronics, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka, Hang Tuah Jaya, 76100 Durian Tunggal, Melaka, Malaysia 2Control Mechatronics Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, 81310 Skudai Johor Bahru, Malaysia Article Info ABSTRACT Subspace model identification (SMI) method is the effective method in identifying dynamic state space linear multivariable systems. Subspace identification, a sequence of state vectors can be obtained directly from the input and output data. From a numerical point of view, the SMI algorithms are not appropriate for online implementation because of the SVD computational complexity. For industrial applications, it is essential to have online recursive algorithms for model identification, where parameters can vary in time. Indeed, in many online identification scenarios, it is important to update the model as time goes on with a reduced computational cost. The main problem with recursive subspace identification is the SVD computation that is burdensome to update. Thus, it is necessary to find the alternative algorithms in order to apply the subspace concept in a recursive framework. In this paper, recursive subspace identification algorithm based on the propagator method which avoid the SVD computation is proposed. Keyword: Subspace identification Observability ... The Stages Of Piaget s Development Theory This essay is concerned with the Concrete Operational Stage of Piaget s development theory, which he described as a major turning point in a child s cognitive development as it is the beginning of logical thought processes (Piaget, 1954). This typically occurs between seven and eleven years of age. It will describe the developmental tests used to evidence development and evaluate the strengths and weakness of the theory in relation to the stage and tests used. During this stage, children develop and are able to use logical reasoning as long as it can be applied to concrete and specific examples they are familiar with, such as their own experiences and people, places and objects they know and have experienced however, abstract thought and what if scenarios are still beyond their thinking. They are able to understand conservation, which Mcleod.S.A (2010) defines as understanding that something remains the same even though its appearance changes, which coincides with the development of reversibility and knowing that numbers/object appearances can be changed and then returned to their original condition with no lasting effects. It is a mental process which allows the reversal of a chain of events or restoration of a changed state to original condition (Piaget,J Inhelder,B. 1956). Their classification skills increase allowing objects to be grouped by mass, weight, height and colour and class inclusion develops, enabling the child to further separate the classified groups of ... • 26. Beauty And The Beast In Being There And The Bloody Chamber In the novels Being There and The Bloody Chamber there are several examples of characters constantly changing throughout the telling of the novel. Many of the characters of The Bloody Chamber are creatures who are half human and half beast, or else undergo some change from beast to human or vice versa. In Being There, we see Chance transform from a simple gardener to a man who is respected and loved by the whole country seemingly in a blink of an eye. Transformation revealing some idea of truth is a common theme of folk and fairy tales. In the original Beauty and the Beast the creature is rescued by the goodness of a true woman who restores him to his handsome self. Carter s two retellings of the tale offer something quite different. Mr. Lyon loses his attractive and powerful animal qualities and ends up looking unkempt ( The Courtship of Mr. Lyon , p. 54). In The Tiger s Bride it is not The Beast, but Beauty who is transformed. Having dispatched her replica to the real world of her father, she is free to shed all the skins of a life in the world (p. 75) and become a beast herself. Carter inverts the traditional transformation from beast to human and its symbolism. To be beast like is to be virtuous; to become manly is to be vicious. The Snow Child offers a different view on metamorphosis: a wish can become reality, but can just as easily be wished away. The transitory nature of male desire is emphasized by the melting away of the child: Soon there was nothing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Speculations arose as to Owens having an extra bone in his leg, or elongated bones, all of which were proven to be false. Scientist found that biology was not a determinant in an individual s ability to excel in sports; rather dedication, determination, and training are more influential factors (Dyreson, 2008). One socioligical explanation as to why African Americans excel in athletics is because it is viewed as a way of upward social and financial mobility. Being one of the world s largest institutions, sports generate billions of dollars in revenue each year. Specifically, the National Football League generates six billion dollars in revenue a year (Sports Industry Overview, 2009). The life of an NFL player is filled with fame, fortune and limitless opportunites, something that the majority of young children dream about. The reason we see more African Americans succeeding in sports is because they have limited resources and opportunities for upward social mobility elsewhere. With the poverty rate among African Americans so high (24.7 %) they often do not have the resources to excel in education so instead they look to sports as a way of socio economic advancement (Bureau, Poverty, 2009). Westermann that the salvation referred to in this chapter is brought about by the divine, miraculous transformation of a condition, the nation s oppression and impoverishment, into its opposite rather than it being brought about by an historical event. Seitz comments that by God becoming Zion s everlasting light, Zion s exaltation has cosmic, transnational consequences. I found this unconvincing in the face of the fact that we have not seen the exaltation of Zion during the period of the text. One would have to remove it entirely from history and see this as an apocalyptic text, which my passed study of Isaiah has shown not to be true. I moved on to Joseph Blenkinsopp, who as usual, did not disappoint. Here I found the historical context of this section of Isaiah. Blenkinsopp referred back to Isaiah 58 to shed light on why the vision of theophany in Isaiah 60 had not been realized. Cyrus had release the Jews from Babylonian captivity, and those who wished to had returned to Jerusalem. But the dominant frame of mind of the people being address (in Isaiah 58) is one of disorientation and disillusionment. • 31. Hedge Funds Feature Returns Different From Those Of Mutual... Hedge funds feature returns different from those of mutual funds. The different trading strategies and investment styles are amongst a few factors that explain the difference (Boyson, 2010). The institutional and individual investors create a common pool of funds and employ professional managers to manage the fund. Ideally the manager is compensated from two sets of fees: management fee and performance fee. They impose a management fee based on the size of the asset managed, usually at the rate between 1 2%. A performance fee will be imposed at the rate between 20 30% of the returns on the investments made (lecture notes). Unlike mutual funds who only charge a management fee, much of the hedge funds compensation structure is linked to the fund performance. To avoid cases of managers charging the investor performance fees twice for the same returns, there is a prescription that managers should not charge any fee for a fund that has lost ground (Boyson, 2010). However, when the performance surpasses the previous performance level known as a ?high water mark?, the manager can charge the performance fees once again. Furthermore, many funds may also carry out a hurdle rate that managers must achieve before they charge any incentive fees (lecture notes).
