Tea During The Tang Dynasty
During the Tang Dynasty, tea was widespread. The uprising of the tea culture brought the prosperity of
literature in the Tang Dynasty because many monk poets wrote poems about tea. Tea was very famous
in the Buddhist monasteries during the Tang Dynasty. Monks drank tea as a beverage because they
thought the tea can help them to stay awake, so that they could have more time to focus on their
mediation. The art of serving and drinking tea in Buddhist monasteries inspired lots of Tang poets to
create poems about tea. One of the famous monk poets was Jiaoran, he wrote a poem titled On the
Double Ninth Festival, Drinking Tea with Recluse Lu Yu , in this poem, he drank tea with his friend
Lu Yu in the Monastery courtyard. The purpose of this

High School Dropouts Is An Issue Today s Society
The purpose of this proposal is to let people know that high school dropouts is an issue in today s
society. At the present time, every year 1.2 million students drop out of high school. The average age
that students dropout is between sixteen and twenty four years. Students drop out because of either
personal factors, family factors, and community factors or all of the above. Drop out students should
be encouraged to finish high school because non graduates fail to succeed in life. First of all, High
school dropouts is an issue occurring since a very long time ago because it has been proven that many
students are unsuccessful after dropping out of high school. As mentioned before, every year over 1.2
million students drop out of high school. As Richmond mentions, an estimated 1 million students will
fail to graduate this year, a loss of 5,500 students for every day on the academic calendar (Richmond
1). This is a big quantity of students who will have no education guidance into their future. Texas is
one of the top three states with higher dropout rates along with California and Florida. Also, there is
no rate difference between genders just that boys and girls dropout for different reasons. Although,
people will say that this issue does not affect them particularly, these dropout students will affect our
economy in the future. As Lynch states, The financial ramifications of dropping out of high school
hurt more than the individual (Lynch par. 6). Since students

Fulorenone Synthesis Lab Report
A common problem that scientists encounter in chemistry is that two or three compounds are mixed
together and they have to perform the purification and extraction to identity the single compounds that
mixture contains. In order to separate the components of a mixture, various techniques can be used
such as sublimation, evaporation, extraction, filtration, decantation, and more. In this lab, benzoic
acid, benzocaine, and 9 fulorenone were mixed and acid base extraction, separatory funnel extraction,
drying organic solutions, suction filtration, and melting point determination were used to separate the
mixture in to more pure substances. For the acid base reaction, proton transfers occurred to result in
compound polarity shifts, which allowed

Stravinsky Rhythm
In this performance, the rhythm is apparent and a defining feature of the piece. Sometimes the piece
becomes somewhat repetitive with ostinato patterns present a lot of the time. This piece is played and
composed in such a way that it draws the listener into a story. The rhythm plays a big part in this. On
the first page of the composition, Stravinsky changes the meter eight times in nine measures which
grabs the attention of the listener. Though the rhythms in the rite of spring are highly irregular, they
are still pulsed. This caused innovations in musical notation in the score to make the piece playable.
Sometimes sounding chaotic, Stravinsky expanded the use of polyrhythm. Creating a hectic and
unpleasant sound, nothing like this was done before. The piece s enormous harmonies move very
slowly indeed. This slow harmonies contradict the pie s sense of energy creating a very dissonant and
disturbing atmosphere. In 1913 this would have completely shocked the audience and contributed to
the events that took place on the premier. Although the piece is aggressive and bold in certain areas it
cannot be generically labelled as such. The introductions to both parts set a more ... Show more

On the night of the 29th of May 1913, the most famous scandal in the history of arts took place. A
recently built, new theatre in Paris had the privilege of hosting the premier night of Stravinsky s Rite
of Spring. On that night, events took place that no one saw coming. A reaction was expected, but not
of the magnitude that took place. Having had a successful previous year with his piece Petrushka great
things were expected from Stravinsky and he was hoping for the new ballet to be an even bigger than
anything he d written before. Writing to Nicholas Roerich (Who was behind the ballet s vision of
pagan Russia), Stravinsky said From all indications I can see that this piece is bound to emerge in a

Copper Cable versus Fiber Optics
Copper Cable (Ethernet) versus fiber optics
The topic we picked to do our presentation on is fiber optics versus cable, which is better for a
company use and what are the future prospects of fiber optics and cable. We also talked about the
history of DSL, broadband, fiber optics, and dial up. There are both pros and cons with fiber optics
and copper cable. The main point for our research is which would companies choose. During our
research there was many obstacles because it was hard to say why companies would choose fiber
optics or copper cable because it varies from company to company. The start of our research had to be
choosing to talk about the history by showing where it all came from.
History:
The research method we used was the internet and it provided us with relevant, interesting
information. When we started our research we wanted to focus on the history of DSL, dial up,
Broadband, and fiber optics. Starting with dial up, it was created in 1962 by Bell with speeds reaching
300 bits per second. dial up evolved over years into standard 56k modem in about 1996 by Dr. Brent
Townshend. Next, DSL was invented in 1988 by Bellcore, DSL was revolutionary because it proved
that data and phone could be sent at the same time using the same line. The next is Broadband it was
created in 1996 by Roger Communications. Broadband is currently the most widely used way to
transport data. It was used in 70% of homes in the US. Last we talked about the history of fiber

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
In the neonatal intensive care unit, pain is something to be expected. The question is, when the
neonate is in pain will the nursing staff recognize it and how will they try to compensate for it? Infants
in their first few weeks of life can go through incredibly painful procedures at a time where any
amount of stress to the body can negatively impact their abilities to survive. In the past, pain has not
been held in high regards for neonates due to a lack of understanding in their
development.Fortunately, there are now laws in place by The Joint Commission on Accreditation of
Healthcare Organizations that state that there are standards for pain and stress management that each
hospital has to follow.Effective management of pain during procedures and after procedures are highly
important to improve acute and long term outcomes while focusing on minimizing the neonate s
behavioral and physiological stress.
There are many ways to manage pain in today s society. Some prefer non analgesic treatment, and
others rather manage their pain by taking analgesics as soon as they re aware of the severity of their
pain. On the specific topic of neonates, it is often said that their pain is overlooked. Because it is so
difficult to suspect whether or not the infant is in pain due to their developmental age group, nurses
are reluctant to take pharmacological measures without proof. There are a considerable amount of pain
scales accessible for neonates and neonatal nurses.

3 What is your overall impression of this image?
The facial expression of Sam Houston depicts a man who does not seem to need the approval of
others, and the fact that he does not appear to be looking at the camera indicates that he feels superior
to others.
4 What is this image attempting to convey to the viewer?
They say a picture is worth 1,000 words although it may be simple in purpose, this picture of Sam
Houston portrays far more than just a black and white gentleman with a checkered vest. It shows the
face of a hard drinking frontiersman born in Virginia, who served under General Andrew Jackson in
the war of 1812, and a war hero who was responsible for the fate of the Texas Revolution.
5 What does this image tell you about this period in American History?
This image tells of the history of Texas. It tells of the hard fought battles which lead to the rise of The
Lone Star Republic in 1836, which was finally recognized by President Jackson in his last day in
office in early 1837. A republic of only 40,000 people, which was thought by many to not hold its
independence for very long.

Defending Utilitarianism- Mill s Answer
Defending Utilitarianism:
Mill s posthumous answer to Nozick s experience machine
The greatest good for the greatest number ; that is how the British philosopher John Stuart Mill
famously summarized utilitarianism (Shafer Landau, 2012b, p. 120). He is not only one of the greatest
utilitarians, he is also a hedonist. Hence, he believed that this greatest good can be achieved by
focussing all action on attaining the greatest amount of happiness. Mill describes utility as holding that
actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as they tend to produce the
reverse of happiness ((Shafer Landau, 2012a, p. 17). He defines happiness as pleasure and the absence
of pain, and unhappiness as pain and the privation of pleasure. Hence, Mill argues that only pleasure is
intrinsically desirable and only misery intrinsically bad (Shafer Landau, 2012a, p. 120). All other
desirable things are only desirable as means to promote pleasure or prevent pain (Shafer Landau,
2012a, p. 18). Therefore, in order to refute Mill s utilitarianism, one would have to show that there is
something other than pleasure or the freedom from pain that is intrinsically desirable. First, Robert
Nozick s attempt to disprove utilitarianism and hedonism in the shape of his experience machine will
be explained. Next, Mill s arguments in favour of utilitarianism and hedonism will be recapitulated in
an attempt to answer the central research question: why does Nozick s experience

The Value Of Dividend Income Essay
Dividends
Basic net income attributable to Trinity Industries, Inc. per common share is computed by dividing net
income attributable to Trinity remaining after allocation to unvested restricted shares by the weighted
average number of basic common shares outstanding for the period. Except when the effect would be
antidilutive, the calculation of diluted net income attributable to Trinity per common share includes 1)
the net impact of unvested restricted shares and shares that could be issued under outstanding stock
options and 2) the incremental shares calculated by dividing the value of the conversion obligation in
excess of the Convertible Subordinated Notes aggregate principal amount by the average price of the
Company s common stock during the period. The effect of the Convertible Subordinated Notes was
antidilutive for the years ended December 31, 2013 and 2012. See Note 11 Debt for further
explanation of the Company s Convertible Subordinated Notes. Total weighted average restricted
shares and antidilutive stock options were 7.4 million shares, 7.0 million shares, and 6.1 million

Rent For Own Home Ownership
Rent To Own Home Ownership
The desire to own a home in America is very common. As a matter of fact, there is no American
Dream without home ownership. Years ago, an economic crisis swept the nation leaving many
homeless, jobless, and flat out broke. Many Americans as well as businesses were victims to this
crisis. Fortunately, the market has started to recover and regain structure and many have been able to
get back to into the home buying market. Millions of jobs are being created and small businesses are
beginning to see profits as well. Overall, the economy is in much better shape. There are many
programs available to help Americans rent, lease and even own homes. Rent to Own has become a
great option for people that want to get back ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a home owner, you are responsible for pretty much everything; not just a payment at the first of the
month. Many new homeowners are shocked to know that there are other things that will cost
associated with owning a home such as yard maintenance, malfunctions with heating and air
conditioning, and other expenses that are necessary for the upkeep of the home. This is one way that
home ownership can offer hands on experience for a renter that will prepare them for the real thing .
Another great benefit of rent to own is that, this gives potential buyers an opportunity to get a home
without having a great credit score. As stated before, many Americans were affected by the economic
crisis that hit America years ago. This not only affected the sale of homes, this affected people s
financial stability. Thus, credit scores of many Americans were gravely affected. Many suffered
bankruptcies, maxed out credit cards, failed businesses, etc. Fortunately, the rent to own option has
made it possible for people to get a home even if they were affected. As a matter of fact, while you are
in the process of renting a home, you can work on rebuilding your credit. This is what makes this
benefit so great. However, this only applies to renters that are financially stable enough to go through
this process. For example, if your rent, utilities, food, household

Should The Minimum Age Be Raised To 18
For many teenagers in the United States their 16th birthday is an important milestone. This is the age
that teenagers begin to integrate more into society as they begin to drive and experience new levels of
freedom. As 16 is the usual minimum age for employment in most industries some teens even get jobs
for personal reason or to benefit their household. The minimum age to acquire a driver s licence
should not increase to 18 as younger teens will not be able to help provide for their families with
current public transportation methods in the United States. According to the Insurance Institute for
Highway Safety the first drivers license dates back to 1899 with a license being issued for a steam
propelled vehicle in Chicago, Illinois. Over the next five years various states began introducing laws
on driving, specifically the minimum age, to ensure public safety. While some states like
Massachusetts and Missouri were quick to enact these laws, others were not. South Dakota took over
50 years to enact a minimum driving age in the state. As states, one by one, began drafting these
public safety laws, the age required to obtain a license varied from 14 18 years old. ... Show more

Corrections And The Goals For The Future
On June 7, 2016, Steve Walters interviewed Jon Litscher Secretary of Wisconsin Department of
Correction on his return to corrections and the goals for the future. Litscher (2016) explained how
policies changed due to the ACT 10 law. The law prohibited the workers to bargain with their
employers on their wages and benefits (Patterson 2015). He verbalized that one of the goals for
corrections is to increase incentives such as benefits packages and pay increase for their workers. He
also shared that the goals for correction is to reintegrate the inmates back into society. The
stakeholders in this change include the union workers, families, inmates, and taxpayers.
I did not have much history on the topic of corrections and the goals for the future. However, I have
heard that some correctional officers felt that they were underpaid and with the shortages. These
shortages could contribute to situations that are more dangerous for the offeiceers. I have a friend who
works as a correctional officer and with these shortages, he has to work mandatory overtime or have to
stay if needed. He has mentioned how frustrating it could be when trying to make and keep plans with
his family. Litscher (2016) verbalized that corrections is going through a recruitment process and the
classes are getting bigger and with the competitive wages and benefit packages this shortage should
come to an end.
Nevertheless, I was unaware that the starting pay for a correctional officer is $16, but even with

Spider Man Stan Lee Quotes
Quote: With great power comes great responsibility. That quote came from the Spider Man comic
books but is most famous for the movie Spider Man in 2002. But it has quite a bit of meaning. It is
telling you that if you have power over something you need responsibility to control that power. When
Stan Lee made Spider Man he knew he would have to have a special quote that would run through the
whole series. When Stan Lee first started making the comics into what he wanted to see, and people
loved it! Stan Lee completely changed the way comics were made, I guess you could say that Stan Lee
could have changed the world too. When Stan Lee made the comics and then the movies about his
heroes, it gave people inspiration to be able to do things they were to scared or they thought were not
possible before. Just about everywhere you look you see something from marvel something about his
heroes. I believe that Stan Lee changed the way people saw the world. And maybe how people saw
each other. Stan Lee changed the world with his heroes, and he can change you too.

and violence on themselves and those they fight against, having no opportunity to shine compassion

and grief. In war, soldiers are not meant to find peace or negotiation. The author portrayed the sniper

Setting in John Steinbeck´s East of Eden
John Steinbeck s, East of Eden, is set in the Salinas Valley, a secluded area of Northern California. The
Salinas River runs through this beautiful, yet unforgiving land and provides fertility to the dry land.
While the valley has a rich geographical history spanning from sea, to forest, and then to the present
day valley, it is a difficult destination to find prosperity. Two dramatic mountain ranges form the
landscape of the valley that the author uses to exemplify the idea of good and evil. This theme is
further outlined by the strong personalities of characters Cathy, Aron, and Cal. Cathy and Aron have
opposing dispositions, similarly to Steinbeck s descriptions of the Santa Lucias and the Gabilan
mountains. In between the two peaks is the valley, where both good and evil preside. Cal s personality
mirrors this setting as he struggles internally between being good and evil for most of his life.
Steinbeck s emphasis on dramatic setting correlates directly to the personalities of the main characters
in order to outline the theme of conflict between good and evil in East of Eden. Evilness and its
conflict with goodness in East of Eden is emphasized in setting by the Santa Lucia Mountains and in
character by Cathy Ames. The mountains provoke a sense of fright and terror in Steinbeck as he
remarks, The Santa Lucias stood up against the sky to the west and kept the valley from the open sea,
and they were dark and brooding unfriendly and dangerous... I always found myself a

A State s Political Culture And Its Effect On The...
Representative governments that are more characteristic of their population are thought to better serve
their citizens. It is unreasonable to argue that a government made up of entirely white, middle aged
men would wholly understand the interests of a Native American woman in her twenties. What makes
governments more reflective of their population? More specifically, what causes more women to
participate in state legislatures? In this paper, I will argue that, according to the data, states with a non
moralistic political culture are more likely to have a greater number of women that participate in state
legislatures. After comparing the political culture variable to other variables that I believed would also

The R Script for the regression model will be included in the appendix.
The main hypothesis texted in this paper is, Are states with a moralistic culture more likely to have a
legislature with a greater number of women than states with a non moralistic culture? According to
political scientist Daniel Elazar, there are three types of political cultures in the United States:
individualistic, moralistic, and traditionalistic. Each type of culture perceives politics differently, but
the moralistic culture views it as a concern for all citizens. It is probable that states with this culture
are more likely to have a greater number of women in the legislature since moralistic cultures perceive
politics more democratically than the other two cultures. This democratic environment would be more
likely to promote all groups of people to participate in government at all levels, including state
legislatures. Individualistic cultures and traditionalistic cultures are more likely to believe that a select
few will participate in politics and that it rarely concerns the commonwealth or the general will.
After considering what other independent variables to incorporate in the model to test this hypothesis,
I decided to include the Cook Index variable and the urban population variable. I chose to include the
Cook Index variable because a states

Predictions
Model 1: Moon phases are caused by the shadow of the Earth on the Moon
1. If Moon phases are caused by the shadow of the Earth on the Moon, when there is a new Moon, it
should lie directly behind the Earth. The sunlight would be completely blocked off from the Moon
because of Earth s shadow.
2. If Moon phases are caused by the shadow of the Earth on the Moon, the Moon should be a full
Moon for most of the lunar month because Earth will not cast a shadow on the Moon unless the Moon
is behind the Earth.
Model 2: Moon phases are caused by different angles between the Moon, Earth and Sun
1. If Moon phases are caused by different angles between the Moon and Sun, half Moons should take
place when the Moon is on either side of earth related to the sun (not in between the sun and earth, and
not behind the sun and earth).
2. If the Moon phases are caused by different angles between the Moon and Sun, the Moon is full for
only a small fraction of the lunar month because it would only be full when it is behind the Earth and

Flamingo Observation
ABSTRACT On September 6th, 2017 period 6 and 8 of research and experimental science went to
Miami Zoo to observe the flamingo exhibit. The flamingos were watched for about 40 minutes all
together. After gathering the data of the flamingos behavior, the information was processed into two
different charts called followed by table and transition frequency table and then turned into a
kinematic diagram. The diagram shows the transition frequency of how many times the flamingo that
was studied produced a behavior after another behavior.
INTRODUCTION
The bird that was watched to gather the data was the flamingo (phoenicopterus), a type of wading
bird. At Miami Zoo they have American flamingos (phoenicopterus ruber) . American flamingos are
normally 3 feet and 6 inches. Their wings have bright pink and white feathers and beneath they have a
black coloring, and their beaks match the rest of their body being white, pink, and black. Compared to
the rest of the flamingos they are the tallest.
When we went to Miami Zoo, we watched the flamingos to collect data on their behavior. Five
behavioral patterns were chosen and carefully examined throughout the watch time. A total of 83
behavioral patterns were recorded on flamingo number 25. Everything was then put in several charts
to be made into a kinematic diagram. We did this to analyze the behavior of flamingos in a certain
time frame.
METHODS
At 11:30, we watched the flamingos to choose the five most common behavioral

CHAPTER 1 WORK DONE/PARTICIPATION
The period I worked in Cyberspace Network LTD. I worked in three(3) departments.
I worked in the Technical department, Customer Service Unit (CSU) and Software department. I was
in both the Technical and Customer Service department at the same time but basically in CSU full
time and Technical part time, then I moved to the Software department later on.
The Technical department is the department that deals with networking through both software and
hardware. This is the department that deals with WIMAX and VSAT internet services. They have field
engineers and dispatch drivers which are sent out to a client s sites to install/ troubleshoot their
network. The Customer Service Unit/department is the department in charge of monitoring the client s
internet link/network and also the unit that handles the clients information/data. This department
notices if there is a problem with a link then escalates it to the engineers in the Technical department,
then they visit the site and work on the internet link. The software department is the department in
charge of providing software solutions which are strategically tailored to meet an organisation s goals

What Is The Relationship Between Simba And The Prodigal Son
Analysis
There are several biblical concepts found in the Lion King however, this essay will be focusing on the
correlation in the Lion King and the prodigal son. Simba, the main character in the lion king can be
compared to the wayward son in the parable of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15:11 32.
In the opening scene, we encounter Simba as a baby cub when he is presented to all the animals in
Pride Land. Simba literally grows up in front of us, three different actors represent Simba namely,
young Simba, teenage Simba and adult Simba. As Simba grows up, he is trained by his dad. It is not
said that the prodigal son is trained by his father but it was implied that the father trained both sons
because the prodigal son saw the error of his ways and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case of Simba, this was after he had fought and defeated his uncle and had an heir (he had taken
responsibility) and in the case of the prodigal son, there was celebration on his return to his father this
implies that with God, salvation is by Grace and not by works (Ephesians 2:8 10), in contemporary
society a lot is said about the importance of taking responsibility. This is also important in the bible
but Christians believe that responsibility is part of the transformation and formation process which
comes after conversion in the New Testament.
In the two stories, both fathers would agree that their sons were lost and are now found, they were
dead but are now alive. Both sons were home where they belonged. This happened only after they
discovered who they really were; both had to come to themselves and grow up to maturity but not
without struggles the conversion process of

The Witch Wins in Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton
In the small, desolate town of Starkfield, Massachusetts, Ethan Frome lives a life of poverty. Not only
does he live hopelessly, but he was a prisoner for life to the economy (Ammons 2). A young engineer
from outside of town narrates the beginning of the story. He develops a curiosity towards Ethan Frome
and the smash up that he hears about in bits and pieces. Later, due to a terrible winter storm that
caused the snow itself to seem like a part of the thickening darkness, to be the winter night itself
descending on us layer by layer (Wharton 20), the narrator is forced to stay the night at Frome s. As he
enters the unfamiliar house, the story flashes back twenty four years to Ethan Frome s young life.

Like a stepmother, she takes in Mattie, who is a younger relative, after her parents pass away. Also,
just like the evil stepmother in Snow White, she tries hard to keep the girl from flourishing. Zeena
never encourages Mattie and is constantly frowning upon her by giving her complaints similar to that
pie of your always sets a mite heavy, Matt (Wharton 108). Furthermore, Zeena s cat, like in many
fairy tales, serves as her external personality. When Zeena is away, leaving Ethan and Mattie home
alone, the cat jumped up into Zeena s chair, rolled itself into a ball, and lay watching them with
narrow eyes as the two make awkward motions towards one another (Wharton 78). The cat sits in
Zeena s chair and looks intently at them just as if it were Zeena herself. In addition to the witch, Ethan
Frome also illustrates a naïve princess like maiden with the character Mattie. Just like Snow White,
Mattie has beautiful dark hair, rosy red cheeks, and stunningly pale skin. Her hair is soft yet springy,
like certain mosses on warm slopes, and had the faint woody fragrance of fresh sawdust in the sun
(Wharton 127). She still acts joyful even though her situation is rough. Her bliss shows as Ethan sees
her with laughing panting lips, the cloud of dark hair about her forehead, and the dark eyes which
seemed the only fixed points in a maze of flying

The Epidemic Of The Ebola Outbreak Of West Africa
Crisis is a word used to describe a situation that has reached a critical phase. In order to minimize the
effects after an incident occurs, a crisis manager sets out to indemnify the area. A crisis can be globally
felt and personally felt. One major global crisis in recent history was the Ebola virus outbreak, and one
personal crisis I have experienced is a bipolar crisis. The Ebola outbreak in West Africa first broke the
news in March 2014. Considered an epidemic, this outbreak killed five times more than any other
Ebola outbreak combined. The virus is traced back to a two year old toddler who died in a south
eastern Guinea small village in December 2013. It took nearly three months for the health officials to
identify the cause of people s illness was Ebola. At that point, the virus had already spread and was set
to explode around the world. West Africa was not prepared for this type of epidemic, the clinics had
never managed this type of case, there was no laboratory to diagnose the patients, and the government
had never witnessed that type of upheaval. The people initially denied the crisis because they didn t
understand why, how, or what had hit them.
The past outbreaks were in rural areas with few cases in highly populated areas, and the major fix was
the isolate the infected. Since the virus was so widely spread the control could no longer be isolation,
supportive care was the new aim. Basic public health, however, was not easily found in the three

Group Dynamics Within The Group Essay
Group dynamics are defined as interactions among group members that emerge as a result of
properties of the group rather than merely their individual personalities (Nichols Davis, 2017, p. 300).
It is important to understand how groups function to be able to facilitate discussions, collaborate with
members and to operate effectively. You are able to understand group dynamics through observation.
Observations allow us to critically analyze the effectiveness and function of groups. In observing
week 7 of Fill Your Cup I have been able to observe the communication and interactions between the
group leaders and members, cohesion of the group, social integration and influence, and group culture
and productivity. For this paper I will critically analyze week seven session and identify the topics
previously mentioned to better understand the dynamics within the group.
Stage of group development
After observing the group in week seven and reviewing the Tuckman model it was evident that the
group was in the third stage which is the Norming Stage.
During the third phase, the group develops cohesion. Group members accept each other s
idiosyncrasies and express personal opinions. Roles and norms are established. Neuman and Wright
(1999) described this as a stage of developing shared mental models and discovering the most
effective ways to work with each other. Tuckman (1965) stated that in this stage, the group becomes
an entity as members develop in group feeling and seek to

Indian Gaming Regulatory Act And The Private Game Theory...
Many academic authors have been focusing on different questions about commerce. Two articles that
discuss about this topic as well are: Business and Constitutional Originalism in the Roberts Court,

first one focuses on the limits the Constitution has been held to place on punitive damages and on state

The jury in the case, indeed, punished Philip Morris considering nonparty potential victim. Towards
this decision, Justice Breyer, Justice Souter and Kennedy were in favor of the decision. Justice
Stevens, Scalia, Thomas and Ginsburg were, instead, the dissenters of the decision. According to
Justice Stevens, the jury can totally consider the quantity of individuals harmed when deciding a
suitable punishment. Justice Thomas contradicted calling attention to that the constitution does not put
a cutoff on damages, just obliges that a respondent get notification and a hearing. The concurrence,
instead, stated that: while a jury may utilize instances of past harm to focus unpardonable character, it
may not rebuff on mischief done to people not present. The second paragraph of the article refers to
the Dormant Commerce Clause. It is important to understand what the dormant Commerce Clause
states. The clause, also called negative Commerce Clause, is a doctrine not enumerated in the
Constitution according to which: states may not interferes with interstate commerce whether or not the
Congress has acted on the matter. The interest of the doctrine is to protect interstate commerce from

Stagger Lee lost his money, his hat, or both depending on the variation of the song you choose to

with violence. According to Rolling Stone magazine, Knight met a young MC named Mario Johnson,

The Woman Of A Woman Essay
Her timid, scared, gentle nature is greatly in contrast with the violent outburst of her mother. Suttree s
reaction to the mother s attack reinforces his view of women: You ghastly bitch, he said, and fetched
her a kick in the side of the head which stretched her out (McCarthy 151). Following this altercation,
Suttree speaks to the sheriff about his wife s family, and his tone and choice of words say quite a bit
about the general view of women from other men of the town. She is only spoken about in relation to
her father, ...the man whose daughter s life you ve ruined, not as her own person. (McCarthy 157)
Time and time again, the women in society are portrayed as far from equal to men. Although Suttree s
relationship with Wanda is one of the only times in the novel that we can infer that he truly cares for a
woman, he does not view her as a peer or equal in any regard. He views her as childlike, naive, and
mostly as a sexual object, fixated on her pointing, young breasts, her smooth skin, and her white
thighs (McCarthy 350). He sexualizes her young body in an almost predatory way, describing her kiss
as child s breath, an odor of raw milk (McCarthy 352). She, on the other hand, is only about 18, and
seems to view him as an important figure and a real relationship, and a way to distinguish her from the
poverty and misfortune of her family. In other words, Wanda represents a source of sexual release for
Suttree, while for Wanda, Suttree literally represents a

A Critical Analysis Of Zia Akhtar s Article Aboriginal...
A treaty should not be seen as an alternative to constitutional recognition. Though, a reform of the
constitution itself will only yield a partial resolution for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders due to
its symbolic nature. A critical analysis of Zia Akhtar s article, Aboriginal Determination: Native Title
Claims and Barriers to Recognition , will emphasise the importance of recognition and self
determination to the Indigenous. This essay will explore the notions that reconciliation is more
achievable through constitutional recognition and treaty together, that changes must be made to the
Australian Constitution, particularly sections 25 and 51 (xxvi), and how the Native Title (Amendment)
Act has hindered recognition and determination in a variety of ways.
Constitutional recognition alone is not sufficient, as a preamble is tokenistic in nature. Thus, it is
necessary that more tangible insertions be made to the body of the Constitution in addition to a
preamble acknowledging Aboriginals. Akhtar s article emphasises a necessity for constitutional
change by stating that constitutional guarantees should be introduced to provide Indigenous Australian
s with enforceable rights that guarantee equality. Despite this, there is no suggestion by Akhtar to
include both. The inclusion of both is vital, as although the preamble is symbolic and does not invoke
physical change, it would be a formal acknowledgement of Aboriginals as the original inhabitants and
custodians of the

How Photography Affects The Social And Political Arena
Photography had been around more than 20 years before the Civil War began. When pictures were
taken, they showed colonels, bodies that were on the battlefield, even soldiers that were around the
camp tent. A few photographers that will be discussed are Mathew Brady, Alexander Gardner, George
Barnard and Timothy O Sullivan. I will talk about how their photography affected the social and
political arena as well as how photography in contemporary society provides the public with an up
close testimony to recent wars and global strife.
Mathew Brady stated, My greatest aim has been to advance the art of photography and to make it what
I think I have, a great and truthful medium of history. (Keya Morgan, 2004). Mathew Brady was a

In the social arena, Mathew Brady photographed people bringing them into his photography studio
and they were connected, for example, that is where Mathew Brady met his wife Juliette Handy.
Alexander Gardner worked for Mathew Brady as his assistant photographer. Although it was Brady s
name on most of the photographs, it was Gardner that took the photographs. When the Civil War
started, portrait photography s demand increased. Soldiers wanted to leave photographs and images
behind with their loved ones as they posed before going to war. (Group of officers at Headquarters
Army of Potomac, ppmsca 34178 http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.pnp/ppmsca.34178)
Alexander Gardner was more so known for his photographs of scenery instead of the troops. While he
worked with Mathew Brady that was his focus, but once he departed from Mathew, Alexander began
taking photographs of the scenes.
Other photographers took pictures of the troops and men during the Peninsula Campaign in Virginia,
but it was Alexander Gardner that took them of the scenery; which is how he affected the political
arena. He showed a difference in campaigning. His photography affected the social arena by using the
camera differently and started something new, instead of taking one photo at a time, he took four.
Before Gardner died he said, It is designed to speak for itself. As mementos of the

The Crucible Essay
For centuries, humans have utilized defense mechanisms to explain the unfortunate occurrences of
humanity that we are incapable of conceiving through our narrow, defensive minds. Humans most
commonly scapegoat their enemies, or the entirely innocent, for their internal issues as a means of
coping for their insecurities or explaining the irrational or biased situations they find themselves in.
Similarly, others cope just as easily by lying to themselves, which can establish a false reality in the
mind of the self deceiver and, ultimately, leads to fallacies in logic. Coherently, Arthur Miller utilizes
his diverse cast of characters in his play write The Crucible to demonstrate the ease at which lying to

Elizabeth s passive aggression constitutes Danforth s denial, therefore demonstrating human
hypocrisy. Judge Danforth, a theocratic representative of God, similar to Proctor, recognizes he is at
fault for the fate of many innocent people. However, being a representative of God and giving arrested
so many, Danforth concludes that he cannot be wrong, despite his knowledge that the children are
lying, which unmistakably proves his denial. During Act III, in the courthouse, Danforth tells Proctor,

Proctor, before I decide whether I shall hear you or not, it is my duty to tell you this. We burn a hot

reference to a literal crucible, which melts ores until they become pure and exposed metals, free of
impurities, Danforth s quote simultaneously suggests his inability to conceive the concept that the
children are fake, a truth revealed to him after his sentencing of many innocent people with no
evidence. Danforth, unable to decide between attempting to maintain his personal ethos or pardoning
those he knows are innocent, demonstrates his denial. However, Danforth, being well aware of his

On Being Brought From Africa To America Summary
The Clever Meaning: Phillis Wheatley s On Being Brought from Africa to America *Phillis Wheatley
s On Being Brought from Africa to America is a cleverly ironic and heavily sarcastic poem on Phillis
wheatley s journey through her time in slavery. Written in a AABBCCDD rhyme scheme which
creates a focus on each couplet. Each rhyme couplet in On Being Brought from Africa to America is
used to show the irony forced on her and her race. *For example, in the first couplet Phillis stats how
she was brought from Pagan lands. The way the line is written it is easy to assume she is referring to
her history. However, Phillis Wheatley uses the word brought instead of bought, referring to the
transformation from Pagan to Christianity and not slavery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This line shows her happiness of being in America, but her happiness is based on that she found divine

sin and darkness. The imagery of darkness symbolized here by the word benighted is very intentional.
Being well aware that the darkness of her skin is an excuse for white people to judge her moral
character. *In the second couplet; That there s a God, that there s a Saviour too: Once I redemption
neither sought nor knew. Phillis dissociate the moral darkness from her physical appearance. She no
longer believes in people s pagan religion. She now believes in God and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Even
though, she states that to call her sinful for the life she once lived is pointless. She never sought
redemption in Christianity because she never knew she had sinned. The irony of this couple is when it
is compared to the first. For instance, In the time slaves were seen as innately

1. Introduction:
Brief history:
Burger King s first restaurant, originally called Insta Burger King, was opened on December 4, 1954
in a suburb of Miami, Florida by James McLamore and David Edgerton; both alumni of the Cornell
University School of Hotel Administration.
In 1967, after eight years of private operation, the Pillsbury Company acquired Burger King and its
parent company Burger King Corporation. At the time of the purchase, BK had grown to 274
restaurants in the United States.
When Burger King Corporation began franchising in 1967, it relied on a regional franchising model
where franchisees would purchase the right to open stores within a defined geographic region. These
franchise agreements granted BKC very little oversight control over its franchisees and resulted in
issues of product quality control, store image and design and operations procedures.
Burger King Egypt:
The opening of the first Burger King® restaurant will took place during the second quarter of 2007 at
Egypt s City Stars Mall, Cairo, one of the largest shopping malls in the region. A further two openings
are due to follow shortly in Sharm El Sheikh, Signaling the beginning of a large expansion program

  • 4. High School Dropouts Is An Issue Today s Society The purpose of this proposal is to let people know that high school dropouts is an issue in today s society. At the present time, every year 1.2 million students drop out of high school. The average age that students dropout is between sixteen and twenty four years. Students drop out because of either personal factors, family factors, and community factors or all of the above. Drop out students should be encouraged to finish high school because non graduates fail to succeed in life. First of all, High school dropouts is an issue occurring since a very long time ago because it has been proven that many students are unsuccessful after dropping out of high school. As mentioned before, every year over 1.2 million students drop out of high school. As Richmond mentions, an estimated 1 million students will fail to graduate this year, a loss of 5,500 students for every day on the academic calendar (Richmond 1). This is a big quantity of students who will have no education guidance into their future. Texas is one of the top three states with higher dropout rates along with California and Florida. Also, there is no rate difference between genders just that boys and girls dropout for different reasons. Although, people will say that this issue does not affect them particularly, these dropout students will affect our economy in the future. As Lynch states, The financial ramifications of dropping out of high school hurt more than the individual (Lynch par. 6). Since students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Fulorenone Synthesis Lab Report A common problem that scientists encounter in chemistry is that two or three compounds are mixed together and they have to perform the purification and extraction to identity the single compounds that mixture contains. In order to separate the components of a mixture, various techniques can be used such as sublimation, evaporation, extraction, filtration, decantation, and more. In this lab, benzoic acid, benzocaine, and 9 fulorenone were mixed and acid base extraction, separatory funnel extraction, drying organic solutions, suction filtration, and melting point determination were used to separate the mixture in to more pure substances. For the acid base reaction, proton transfers occurred to result in compound polarity shifts, which allowed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Stravinsky Rhythm In this performance, the rhythm is apparent and a defining feature of the piece. Sometimes the piece becomes somewhat repetitive with ostinato patterns present a lot of the time. This piece is played and composed in such a way that it draws the listener into a story. The rhythm plays a big part in this. On the first page of the composition, Stravinsky changes the meter eight times in nine measures which grabs the attention of the listener. Though the rhythms in the rite of spring are highly irregular, they are still pulsed. This caused innovations in musical notation in the score to make the piece playable. Sometimes sounding chaotic, Stravinsky expanded the use of polyrhythm. Creating a hectic and unpleasant sound, nothing like this was done before. The piece s enormous harmonies move very slowly indeed. This slow harmonies contradict the pie s sense of energy creating a very dissonant and disturbing atmosphere. In 1913 this would have completely shocked the audience and contributed to the events that took place on the premier. Although the piece is aggressive and bold in certain areas it cannot be generically labelled as such. The introductions to both parts set a more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the night of the 29th of May 1913, the most famous scandal in the history of arts took place. A recently built, new theatre in Paris had the privilege of hosting the premier night of Stravinsky s Rite of Spring. On that night, events took place that no one saw coming. A reaction was expected, but not of the magnitude that took place. Having had a successful previous year with his piece Petrushka great things were expected from Stravinsky and he was hoping for the new ballet to be an even bigger than anything he d written before. Writing to Nicholas Roerich (Who was behind the ballet s vision of pagan Russia), Stravinsky said From all indications I can see that this piece is bound to emerge in a way that rarely ... • 7. Copper Cable versus Fiber Optics Copper Cable (Ethernet) versus fiber optics The topic we picked to do our presentation on is fiber optics versus cable, which is better for a company use and what are the future prospects of fiber optics and cable. We also talked about the history of DSL, broadband, fiber optics, and dial up. There are both pros and cons with fiber optics and copper cable. The main point for our research is which would companies choose. During our research there was many obstacles because it was hard to say why companies would choose fiber optics or copper cable because it varies from company to company. The start of our research had to be choosing to talk about the history by showing where it all came from. History: The research method we used was the internet and it provided us with relevant, interesting information. When we started our research we wanted to focus on the history of DSL, dial up, Broadband, and fiber optics. Starting with dial up, it was created in 1962 by Bell with speeds reaching 300 bits per second. dial up evolved over years into standard 56k modem in about 1996 by Dr. Brent Townshend. Next, DSL was invented in 1988 by Bellcore, DSL was revolutionary because it proved that data and phone could be sent at the same time using the same line. The next is Broadband it was created in 1996 by Roger Communications. Broadband is currently the most widely used way to transport data. It was used in 70% of homes in the US. Last we talked about the history of fiber ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The question is, when the neonate is in pain will the nursing staff recognize it and how will they try to compensate for it? Infants in their first few weeks of life can go through incredibly painful procedures at a time where any amount of stress to the body can negatively impact their abilities to survive. In the past, pain has not been held in high regards for neonates due to a lack of understanding in their development.Fortunately, there are now laws in place by The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations that state that there are standards for pain and stress management that each hospital has to follow.Effective management of pain during procedures and after procedures are highly important to improve acute and long term outcomes while focusing on minimizing the neonate s behavioral and physiological stress. There are many ways to manage pain in today s society. Some prefer non analgesic treatment, and others rather manage their pain by taking analgesics as soon as they re aware of the severity of their pain. On the specific topic of neonates, it is often said that their pain is overlooked. Because it is so difficult to suspect whether or not the infant is in pain due to their developmental age group, nurses are reluctant to take pharmacological measures without proof. There are a considerable amount of pain scales accessible for neonates and neonatal nurses. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Defending Utilitarianism- Mill s Answer Defending Utilitarianism: Mill s posthumous answer to Nozick s experience machine The greatest good for the greatest number ; that is how the British philosopher John Stuart Mill famously summarized utilitarianism (Shafer Landau, 2012b, p. 120). He is not only one of the greatest utilitarians, he is also a hedonist. Hence, he believed that this greatest good can be achieved by focussing all action on attaining the greatest amount of happiness. Mill describes utility as holding that actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as they tend to produce the reverse of happiness ((Shafer Landau, 2012a, p. 17). He defines happiness as pleasure and the absence of pain, and unhappiness as pain and the privation of pleasure. Hence, Mill argues that only pleasure is intrinsically desirable and only misery intrinsically bad (Shafer Landau, 2012a, p. 120). All other desirable things are only desirable as means to promote pleasure or prevent pain (Shafer Landau, 2012a, p. 18). Therefore, in order to refute Mill s utilitarianism, one would have to show that there is something other than pleasure or the freedom from pain that is intrinsically desirable. First, Robert Nozick s attempt to disprove utilitarianism and hedonism in the shape of his experience machine will be explained. Next, Mill s arguments in favour of utilitarianism and hedonism will be recapitulated in an attempt to answer the central research question: why does Nozick s experience ... As 16 is the usual minimum age for employment in most industries some teens even get jobs for personal reason or to benefit their household. The minimum age to acquire a driver s licence should not increase to 18 as younger teens will not be able to help provide for their families with current public transportation methods in the United States. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety the first drivers license dates back to 1899 with a license being issued for a steam propelled vehicle in Chicago, Illinois. Over the next five years various states began introducing laws on driving, specifically the minimum age, to ensure public safety. While some states like Massachusetts and Missouri were quick to enact these laws, others were not. South Dakota took over 50 years to enact a minimum driving age in the state. • 24. Setting in John Steinbeck´s East of Eden John Steinbeck s, East of Eden, is set in the Salinas Valley, a secluded area of Northern California. The Salinas River runs through this beautiful, yet unforgiving land and provides fertility to the dry land. While the valley has a rich geographical history spanning from sea, to forest, and then to the present day valley, it is a difficult destination to find prosperity. Two dramatic mountain ranges form the landscape of the valley that the author uses to exemplify the idea of good and evil. This theme is further outlined by the strong personalities of characters Cathy, Aron, and Cal. Cathy and Aron have opposing dispositions, similarly to Steinbeck s descriptions of the Santa Lucias and the Gabilan mountains. In between the two peaks is the valley, where both good and evil preside. Cal s personality mirrors this setting as he struggles internally between being good and evil for most of his life. Steinbeck s emphasis on dramatic setting correlates directly to the personalities of the main characters in order to outline the theme of conflict between good and evil in East of Eden. Evilness and its conflict with goodness in East of Eden is emphasized in setting by the Santa Lucia Mountains and in character by Cathy Ames. According to political scientist Daniel Elazar, there are three types of political cultures in the United States: individualistic, moralistic, and traditionalistic. Each type of culture perceives politics differently, but the moralistic culture views it as a concern for all citizens. It is probable that states with this culture are more likely to have a greater number of women in the legislature since moralistic cultures perceive politics more democratically than the other two cultures. This democratic environment would be more likely to promote all groups of people to participate in government at all levels, including state legislatures. Individualistic cultures and traditionalistic cultures are more likely to believe that a select few will participate in politics and that it rarely concerns the commonwealth or the general will. After gathering the data of the flamingos behavior, the information was processed into two different charts called followed by table and transition frequency table and then turned into a kinematic diagram. The diagram shows the transition frequency of how many times the flamingo that was studied produced a behavior after another behavior. Stage of group development After observing the group in week seven and reviewing the Tuckman model it was evident that the group was in the third stage which is the Norming Stage. During the third phase, the group develops cohesion. Group members accept each other s idiosyncrasies and express personal opinions. Roles and norms are established. Neuman and Wright (1999) described this as a stage of developing shared mental models and discovering the most effective ways to work with each other. Tuckman (1965) stated that in this stage, the group becomes an entity as members develop in group feeling and seek to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Indian Gaming Regulatory Act And The Private Game Theory... Many academic authors have been focusing on different questions about commerce. Two articles that discuss about this topic as well are: Business and Constitutional Originalism in the Roberts Court, Amar, Vikram Davi. The Paving Principle of Good Intentions? Calls for Reform of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act and the Private Game Theory Equilibrium Opposing Them, by Kuzenski, John C. The first one focuses on the limits the Constitution has been held to place on punitive damages and on state commercial regulation that runs afoul of the so called dormant Commerce Clause idea . The author then discuss a few reasons why, at least in the dormant Commerce Clause setting but perhaps more generally as well the strong form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The jury in the case, indeed, punished Philip Morris considering nonparty potential victim. Towards this decision, Justice Breyer, Justice Souter and Kennedy were in favor of the decision. Justice Stevens, Scalia, Thomas and Ginsburg were, instead, the dissenters of the decision. According to Justice Stevens, the jury can totally consider the quantity of individuals harmed when deciding a suitable punishment. Justice Thomas contradicted calling attention to that the constitution does not put a cutoff on damages, just obliges that a respondent get notification and a hearing. The concurrence, instead, stated that: while a jury may utilize instances of past harm to focus unpardonable character, it may not rebuff on mischief done to people not present. The second paragraph of the article refers to the Dormant Commerce Clause. It is important to understand what the dormant Commerce Clause states. The clause, also called negative Commerce Clause, is a doctrine not enumerated in the Constitution according to which: states may not interferes with interstate commerce whether or not the Congress has acted on the matter. The interest of the doctrine is to protect interstate commerce from the discrimination of local economic protectionism. Stagger Lee lost his money, his hat, or both depending on the variation of the song you choose to believe. Stagger Lee decides this can t stand so he kills William Billy Lyons with a gun to get his hat or money, or both back. Stagger Lee decides he doesn t like the outcome of the card/dice game and uses violence to reverse the outcome in his favor. Suge Knight has a propensity to do the same thing with violence. According to Rolling Stone magazine, Knight met a young MC named Mario Johnson, who complained that he d written much of Vanilla Ice s To the Extreme. • 36. The Woman Of A Woman Essay Her timid, scared, gentle nature is greatly in contrast with the violent outburst of her mother. Suttree s reaction to the mother s attack reinforces his view of women: You ghastly bitch, he said, and fetched her a kick in the side of the head which stretched her out (McCarthy 151). Following this altercation, Suttree speaks to the sheriff about his wife s family, and his tone and choice of words say quite a bit about the general view of women from other men of the town. She is only spoken about in relation to her father, ...the man whose daughter s life you ve ruined, not as her own person. (McCarthy 157) Time and time again, the women in society are portrayed as far from equal to men. Although Suttree s relationship with Wanda is one of the only times in the novel that we can infer that he truly cares for a woman, he does not view her as a peer or equal in any regard. He views her as childlike, naive, and mostly as a sexual object, fixated on her pointing, young breasts, her smooth skin, and her white thighs (McCarthy 350). He sexualizes her young body in an almost predatory way, describing her kiss as child s breath, an odor of raw milk (McCarthy 352). She, on the other hand, is only about 18, and seems to view him as an important figure and a real relationship, and a way to distinguish her from the poverty and misfortune of her family. In other words, Wanda represents a source of sexual release for Suttree, while for Wanda, Suttree literally represents a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. A Critical Analysis Of Zia Akhtar s Article Aboriginal... A treaty should not be seen as an alternative to constitutional recognition. Though, a reform of the constitution itself will only yield a partial resolution for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders due to its symbolic nature. A critical analysis of Zia Akhtar s article, Aboriginal Determination: Native Title Claims and Barriers to Recognition , will emphasise the importance of recognition and self determination to the Indigenous. This essay will explore the notions that reconciliation is more achievable through constitutional recognition and treaty together, that changes must be made to the Australian Constitution, particularly sections 25 and 51 (xxvi), and how the Native Title (Amendment) Act has hindered recognition and determination in a variety of ways. Constitutional recognition alone is not sufficient, as a preamble is tokenistic in nature. Thus, it is necessary that more tangible insertions be made to the body of the Constitution in addition to a preamble acknowledging Aboriginals. Akhtar s article emphasises a necessity for constitutional change by stating that constitutional guarantees should be introduced to provide Indigenous Australian s with enforceable rights that guarantee equality. Despite this, there is no suggestion by Akhtar to include both. The inclusion of both is vital, as although the preamble is symbolic and does not invoke physical change, it would be a formal acknowledgement of Aboriginals as the original inhabitants and custodians of the ... • 38. How Photography Affects The Social And Political Arena Photography had been around more than 20 years before the Civil War began. When pictures were taken, they showed colonels, bodies that were on the battlefield, even soldiers that were around the camp tent. A few photographers that will be discussed are Mathew Brady, Alexander Gardner, George Barnard and Timothy O Sullivan. I will talk about how their photography affected the social and political arena as well as how photography in contemporary society provides the public with an up close testimony to recent wars and global strife. Mathew Brady stated, My greatest aim has been to advance the art of photography and to make it what I think I have, a great and truthful medium of history. (Keya Morgan, 2004). While he worked with Mathew Brady that was his focus, but once he departed from Mathew, Alexander began taking photographs of the scenes. Other photographers took pictures of the troops and men during the Peninsula Campaign in Virginia, but it was Alexander Gardner that took them of the scenery; which is how he affected the political arena. The Crucible Essay For centuries, humans have utilized defense mechanisms to explain the unfortunate occurrences of humanity that we are incapable of conceiving through our narrow, defensive minds. Humans most commonly scapegoat their enemies, or the entirely innocent, for their internal issues as a means of coping for their insecurities or explaining the irrational or biased situations they find themselves in. Similarly, others cope just as easily by lying to themselves, which can establish a false reality in the mind of the self deceiver and, ultimately, leads to fallacies in logic. Coherently, Arthur Miller utilizes his diverse cast of characters in his play write The Crucible to demonstrate the ease at which lying to one s self can create false ... However, being a representative of God and giving arrested so many, Danforth concludes that he cannot be wrong, despite his knowledge that the children are lying, which unmistakably proves his denial. During Act III, in the courthouse, Danforth tells Proctor, Indeed not, but it strike hard upon me that she would dare come here with such a tale. Now, Mr. Proctor, before I decide whether I shall hear you or not, it is my duty to tell you this. We burn a hot fire in here; it melts down all concealment (Miller 89). In addition to the quote being a metaphorical reference to a literal crucible, which melts ores until they become pure and exposed metals, free of impurities, Danforth s quote simultaneously suggests his inability to conceive the concept that the children are fake, a truth revealed to him after his sentencing of many innocent people with no evidence. Danforth, unable to decide between attempting to maintain his personal ethos or pardoning those he knows are innocent, demonstrates his denial. On Being Brought From Africa To America Summary The Clever Meaning: Phillis Wheatley s On Being Brought from Africa to America *Phillis Wheatley s On Being Brought from Africa to America is a cleverly ironic and heavily sarcastic poem on Phillis wheatley s journey through her time in slavery. Written in a AABBCCDD rhyme scheme which creates a focus on each couplet. Each rhyme couplet in On Being Brought from Africa to America is used to show the irony forced on her and her race. *For example, in the first couplet Phillis stats how she was brought from Pagan lands. The way the line is written it is easy to assume she is referring to her history. However, Phillis Wheatley uses the word brought instead of bought, referring to the transformation from Pagan to Christianity and not slavery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The imagery of darkness symbolized here by the word benighted is very intentional. Being well aware that the darkness of her skin is an excuse for white people to judge her moral character. *In the second couplet; That there s a God, that there s a Saviour too: Once I redemption neither sought nor knew. Phillis dissociate the moral darkness from her physical appearance. She no longer believes in people s pagan religion. She now believes in God and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Even though, she states that to call her sinful for the life she once lived is pointless. She never sought redemption in Christianity because she never knew she had sinned.
