This essay will be exploring the different challenges and solutions for Brunt
Hotels PLC as they look to expand their business market to hotels in other parts of
Europe. Their first endeavor is to rebrand existing hotels that they have acquired in
France, and sell half of the existing chain. Brunt Hotels PLC has decided to hire current employees
from their UK headquarters to fill management positions in France. This project will help the
company determine if they can continue their reach even further into other European countries. The
success of this project is imperative to further the success of Brunt Hotels PLC to reach their objective

the local managers will be fluent in French and will require less language training. The local managers
will already be familiar with
France and its customs, which can help to provide even better customer service as they can anticipate
the guests needs more than the expatriates may be able to.

Lusitania Sinking
April second, President Wilson requested a declaration of war for Germany. America officially entered
World War One on April fourth, shortly after Congress passed a two hundred fifty million arms
appropriations bill intended to prepare the United States for war. However, the United States had been
preparing since February twenty second, when Congress passed a two hundred fifty million dollar
arms appropriations bill. President Woodrow Wilson announced that the United States of America was
to be neutral for World War One, which started in 1914. The American population, in majority,
favored this decision. Public opinion changed for the United States when the Lusitania, a ship headed
to Liverpool, England, was sunk. On February fourth nineteen fifteen the water surrounding the
British Isles was declared a war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was announced through several United States newspapers, some on the same page that advertised
the Lusitania trip. One of the United States trading partners at the time was Britain, and the submarine
warfare interfered with trade and caused tension to rise. German submarines were known for watching
ships movements, so the British Admiralty warned the Lusitania to be careful in the area lined out by
the unrestricted submarine warfare. They suggested that at minimum, the liner should zigzag in order
to confuse the Germans. May seventh, nineteen fifteen, the Lusitania is sunk by a German Submarine,
ending the lives of over one thousand three hundred passengers and one hundred thirty Americans.
The captain of the ocean liner had ignored the British Admiralty s warnings and recommendations,
leading up to the attack on the starboard side. The torpedo that hit the Lusitania was followed by a
larger explosion, assumed to be the ship s boilers. The ship sank less than twenty minutes later near
the sothern coast of Ireland. This was one of the main reasons that the United States entered World

Humans Causing Decline in Biodiversity Essays
As far as we can say, intelligent, modern humans have been around for roughly 50,000 years, and in
that time have altered the earth beyond recognition (Morrison, 2006). Most evident in recent years, the
rapidity of technological advances both during and post the industrial revolution has been astonishing,
but has come with a hefty ecological price. There is wide scientific consensus that we are presently
witnessing the obsolescence of species on a prodigious scale. We are now having to accept the
possibility that humans might just be a contributing influence.
Predominantly we rely on one measure to compare the rate of species loss between various moments
in history. The background rate of extinction is approximately 1 extinction per ... Show more content

The Mascarene island of Mauritius national emblem remains to this day the dodo, despite the fact that
it is one of the most infamous cases of manmade extinction. Previously isolated from humans, the
largest member of the pigeon family possessed a curious and innocently trusting nature when sailors
first arrived on the island in the early 1600 s. Despite its flesh being absurdly tasteless, the dodo s
gullibility and lack of leggy zip (Bryson, 2003) proved an irresistible target for young seamen and
their pets. So blissfully ignorant was the raphus cucullatus that you had only to set one squawking and
all its friends from the immediate surroundings would rush to your side. Within seventy years of our
first meeting with the dodos the last one was dead, pointlessly hunted to extinction by humans and the
animals we introduced (Flannery Schouten, 2001).
Myriad methods exist through which we are directly and indirectly placing pressure on flora and
fauna. A growing global population puts more strain on the agriculture industry, triggering agrarian
and urban expansion. Land clearing reduces habitat size, while large environmental enterprises such as
the damming of rivers can either flood or dehydrate vast areas of terrain. Although not so common
nowadays, introduced species have in the past entirely missed their intended purpose, eventually
poisoning, killing or in the very least competing with native animals. Diseases and infections can also

Sulfate Crystalss Lab
In the experiment we concluded that room temperature had the longest duration and that the
hypothesis that the hot temperature water would last longer was terribly wrong. The hot temperature
water had the shortest time, and in all three trials it did not last longer that 3 and a half minutes. The
room temperature water had an average time of 13 minutes and 43 seconds and the cold temperature
water had an average temperature 13 minutes and 44 seconds. The cold temperature water had one
second longer duration than the room temperature this is because in the 3rd trial the cold temperature
water lasted over 15 minutes. Since there is no way to determine exactly when the light stops glowing

The copper sulfate crystals could have been different sizes, even though we tried to keep them
relatively the same size during the experiment. Another thing that could have gone wrong with the
experiment is that there was inconsistent stirring during the trials with different temperature water,
which could have affected the duration of the luminols light. The biggest concern that happened with
the experiment was that the lights duration is guessed by the scientists doing the experiment, there is
no way to know that the solution is done glowing scientifically.
If the experiment was to be redone, it would be best if a few parts were changed. instead of doing
individual crystals you could do scoops of crystals, so that the size of the crystal wouldn t affect the
experiment and it would be a constant amount throughout the experiment and the different trails.
Another thing that could be altered would be that there could somehow be a consistent way to know
for sure when the luminol s light went out.
In a variation of the project you could try different amounts of copper sulfate crystals, probate
mixture, or luminol mixture on the same amount of water. Also you can change the amount of water
and use the same amount of copper sulfate crystals, probate mixture, or luminol mixture. To see the
effect on the duration of the luminols light you can try stirring for different amounts of time or at

Today on Aboriginal affairs, we will be exploring the representations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait

Broadcasting Corporation and Blackfella films have created a film that reflects the trials and

Perkins represented a strong connection between Mabo and his land. To introduce the film, Perkins
used a wide angled photographic image of the mountainous land and the vastness of the sea to capture
the beauty of the land as well as Land is Me attitude of the Murray Islanders. To Mabo, the land is not
just a territorial piece of physical land but was a place of cultural, spiritual origin and pride.
Culture
Bella or Sarah :Yes, I completely agree. The producers, Darren Dale and Miranda Dear depict the
relationship between the Torres straits and their love towards the land through various film techniques
to accentuate cultural difference. The establishing shot at the beginning of the film were flashbacks of
Eddie and , his Uncle who acted as his adopted Father, walking along the beach of Murray Island
while he spoke to Eddie. Everything here is yours, this is who you are , This statement clearly
highlights the Torres Strait Islanders strong connection with the land and sea. To emphasise this
statement, Perkins used bird s eye view close up shots to represent how young Eddie was when his
father started to ingrain cultural identity to him . While this is happening, Rachel Perkins has chosen
cultural indigenous music in the background, to reinforce Mabo s cultural identity in the Meriam
people.

Thoughtful Change In Macbeth Essay
Macbeth: A Journey of Thoughtful Changes In Macbeth, a play by William Shakespeare, a soldier,
Macbeth, ruins an entire country by killing to obtain power, all because of three prophesying witches.
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s lust for power has caused them to make many unforgivable mistakes to
which gluttony and greed for power, treason, and murder are only the beginning. This play
demonstrates the human capability to drastically change both mentally and physically as shown by
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Macbeth has made many changes throughout the plot of this play. He
starts out as loyal, only to turn around and become treasonous because of his thirst of being royal.
Macbeth said, The service and the loyalty I owe In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Glamis thou art, and Cawdor; and shalt be/ What thou art promised. Yet do I fear thy nature;/ It is too
full o th milk of human kindness (1.5.2 40). This quote shows Lady Macbeth consoling Macbeth. At
this point, she is not interested in doing the killing herself, she just doesn t believe that Macbeth has
the strength within himself to kill. Lady Macbeth changes, however, when she states, That tend on
mortal thoughts, unsex me here, / And fill me from the crown to the toe top full/ Of direst cruelty.
Make thick my blood. (1.5.31 33). In this statement that she made, Lady Macbeth is asking to be
unsexed, which means that she wishes that she was no longer a woman, but instead a man. The reason
behind this is because lady Macbeth is becoming evil, and wish to kill. But it was not allowed for
women to think such impure thoughts, so she wished to be a man to carry out the horrendous deeds
that she wished for. The last change within Lady Macbeth is the same as Macbeth: guilt. When the
doctor was talking to the gentlewoman, the gentlewoman said, Why, it stood by her. She has light by
her continually. / Tis her command. (5.1.16 17). Light is symbolic of innocence and purity. Whenever
Lady Macbeth has a light beside her, as she does continually, she is attempting to cleanse herself of all
her sins, as she views herself as

Though Out History, Humans Have Consistently Committed
Though out history, humans have consistently committed horrific acts through war, terrorism, torture
and other atrocities. Some people believe that society can prevent people from committing such
horrific acts. However, contrary to the belief that brutality can disappear, the terrible acts by humans
are not going to disappear because brutality is human nature. People are naturally cruel, and regardless
of people s effort or the environment, one is inclined to be brutal. In Maggie Nelson s Great Watch,
Nelson explains how people can be adapt to brutality. The people continually choose to be brutal when
morality points to the contrary because people adapt the brutality, despite one is aware of the amoral
actions. In Martha Stout s When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Unforgiven I
Metallica is a heavy metal band that began in 1981. While the last song released by the band was in
2008, the group is still widely popular. Perhaps the most popular songs are the The Unforgiven trilogy.
The Unforgiven I is one of Metallica s most popular singles, behind Enter Sandman which is on the
same album. Metallica s lead singer James Hetfield wrote the three songs about his life experiences,
which is different from most of Metallica s work. The majority of Metallica s hits promote
individuality and non conformism (Nys 41). This trilogy of songs however is a story of heartbreak.
They tell an overwhelmingly emotional story of resentment towards those who tried to control him
(Irwin 7). James wrote these songs to pour out his emotions and express how he felt. Hetfield was
born into a deeply religious family. His mother was a Christian, and she believed heavily that if one is
meant to be healed, God will heal that person ( Ten things You May Not Know about James Hetfield ).
As a result of this belief, when she was diagnosed with cancer, she did not seek medical help. She
waited for God to heal her. Unfortunately, after waiting for God to heal her, she did not beat cancer
and she died. This event fueled The Unforgiven trilogy and led to another work, The God that Failed.
The Unforgiven I speaks about James s parents and how he felt during his childhood. The Unforgiven
II speaks about love and betrayal. The Unforgiven III speaks about forgiveness and

to affect the whole nation like the blacksmith who effects the village he lives in. Longfellow is trying

Kavanagh, Longfellow told his father through a poem he wanted to be a poet not a lawyer. Kavanagh
is the story of a country romance. Besides a character named Kavanagh, among its characters is a
school teacher named Mr. Churchill, who has always planned to write a romance, but whose
procrastination never allows him to start, until late in life he resigns himself to his destiny. Longfellow

Persuasive Essay On The Gold Standards
The Gold Standard Athletic eligibility requirements are letting students get by without doing their
best. I believe more emphasis needs to be put on academics the reason we come to school. Right now,
the eligibility requirements to play sports are that the student athlete must not have a grade of one D
and one F. Grades are checked on every three weeks. I believe our school can do better. I think that a
grade of two D s, which will be checked on every week, should be this school s requirement. Let s
raise the bar! At the honor roll ceremony, I noticed that almost all of the students, junior and senior
high, were all recognized. In addition, 0% of students, in the junior high, were ineligible in the past
nine weeks. Since our school is already surpassing the requirements made, why not raise them? It s
becoming too easy to be eligible, with the obviously intelligent students we have here at Little River
schools. It will put more emphasis on schoolwork and students will be able to achieve even more
impressive and notable grades. This new requirement will force students to do the best they can, and
make their grades even better. School comes before athletics. There s a reason the term student athlete
is used. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Religion In Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson was one of the most ambiguous authors of her time. Her poetry remains a mystery to
so many readers and her lack of biographical information makes her writing even more intriguing.
Dickinson spent most of her life away from society, therefore, very few people knew how she viewed
the aspects of life, let alone knew what her writing meant. Her interpretations of concepts such as
religion, nature, and death are often seen as contradicting and pinning one specific thesis on her views
is difficult because she viewed many things with complexity. Among her poems, readers see a
diversity in her perspectives. For example, she might write one poem about the beauties of nature and
continue to write another poem about the dangers or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar ambivalent themes are seen in Dickinson s views of death. Death is primarily seen in a
negative light and she supports that perspective in I heard a Fly buzz when I died When Dickinson
starts this poem, the reader senses a feeling of control from the narrator. The narrator is ready for death
and accepting it; she writes I willed my keepsakes Signed away/ What portion of me be/ Assignable
and the audience sees her willingness to go. However, There interposed a Fly and this fly s
interruption created a change in tone. The narrator felt the windows fail and this could be seen as a
metaphor for losing her spot in heaven. This poem makes death seem almost scary and one could
assume that Dickinson views death this way. Contrarily, in I like a look of Agony she portrays death as
a serene, authentic concept. The narrator says there is no faking death and that s what they most
appreciate of death. Dickinson creates a relaxing tone associated with death and upon reading this
certain poem, a reader may assume she views death as calm and genuine.
Emily Dickinson also wrote plenty about nature, seeing as she was constantly around it rather than
actual humans. Her views of nature vary from optimistic and intoxicating to frightening and
threatening. In her poem There s a certain Slant of light , she carries a holy and amazed mood
throughout it. Using words like Heavenly and Cathedral support the holiness in the text. The narrator
is amazed at the

The Pros And Cons Of Abolishment
Introduction
In recent years, the death penalty is still existing in everywhere although there is less number of
convicted offenders than the old time. Some people think that death penalty is the way to constrain
people to do not offend or violate the legislation while some have an argument that this punishment
should be abolished. In this essay, I will compare two articles. Why Japanese support the death
penalty? by Shanhe Jiang, Rebecca Pilot, and Toyoji Saito (2010)(article 1) and Does it matter if the
Death Penalty is Arbitrarily Administered ? by Stephen Nathanson (2009)(article2). These two articles
are very different. The former article is based on quantitative research and explains why Japanese
people take sides with the death penalty. However, the latter article is based on qualitative research
and describes capital punishment should be abolished. I propose to summarize the main ideas of two
articles, compare both in many aspects, and conclude in my own opinion.
Summary
1. The purpose of the research
The first article, the main purpose of the authors is apparently on the topic of their article which is to
investigate the reason why Japanese participants support or oppose the death penalty. The second
article, the writer also shows the practice of the capital punishment. However, this article is related to
the abolishment. The aim of this article is to investigate the debates about the death penalty that is

An American Tragedy and the Futility of the American Dream
An American Tragedy is an intriguing, frighteningly realistic journey into the mind of a murderer. It is
a biography of its era. And, it is also historical fiction. But what makes this novel a classic? While
society has changed dramatically since 1925, Dreiser s novel, which shows the futility of The
American Dream and the tragedies that trying to live it can cause, accurately summarizes social mores
of this and any time period.
br
br Before Theodore Dreiser was born, his father, a devout German immigrant, lost everything when
his large wool mill burned down (kirjasto.sci.fi 1). After a beam hit his head, Dreiser s father was
subject to dramatic mood swings; this brain damage caused him to became an evangelist (Survey of

br An American Tragedy was based on the infamous Chester Gillette case. Chester abandoned his
missionary parents and wandered, working anywhere he could, until he met Grace Brown. They had
an affair. When she became pregnant, she moved into her parents house. After she begged him to
marry her, he took her on a honeymoon to the Adirondacks, where he planned to murder her. He
caught before he began; he left her trunk and hat valuable evidence in public places. After registering
under an obvious alias, they went boating, and he drowned her. He fled and stayed at the Arrowhead
Hotel until his arrest three days later. During his trial, Chester said his girlfriend had committed
suicide to escape public humiliation. The DA proved that he hit her with a tennis racket (which
numerous people saw him carry). Chester was found guilty of first degree murder and electrocuted
(newpisgah.keene.edu 1). Gillette s trial and An American Tragedy have surprising similarities.
Chester s attorneys, girls, rich uncle, and settings were identical to Clyde s, albeit with minor name
changes (www.albany.edu 1). Both Clyde and Chester had poor parents, fell in love with a garment
factory employees and a good looking upper class girls, botched their girlfriends drownings, and were
electrocuted. So, while Dreiser s theme was not original, his flair for

Miles Davis And Coltrane Essay
Miles Davis and John Coltrane
Miles Davis was named as one of the most important musicians (trumpeters) of the twentieth century.
John Coltrane a groundbreaking acclaimed American saxophonist. It is impossible to go into the genre
of jazz or talk about American contemporary music without mentioning their names. Hard bop, modal
jazz were their main musical features that to this day are an influence of most jazz today.
Both born in 1926, they each had their own path to success and fame. At just the age of seventeen,
Davis, a nine time Grammy Award winner, became a professional trumpet player. After learning from
Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker with which he later played bebop with, Davis became famous for
his indescribably amazing jazz music. In 1945, he dropped out of Julliard School (at that time it was
the art and music institute) with the permission of his father and started his full time career in music.
At that time he was a member of the famous Charlie Parker Quintet and made his first recording as a
band leader the following year with his Miles Davis Sextet. He admired working on improvising in ...

Bebop was a genre of music created as a reaction to big band and swing music (Danvarley, para.1).
Davis was also very well known for his high profile bebop music hard bop. It was a distinctive and
one of a kind combination of gospel music, R B, blues with saxophone, and piano. Together with
Miles, John Coltrane helped alter the landscape of jazz and create hard bop. Both of them are very
well known for bringing the genre of music to a whole other level. The style could be characterized by
a fast tempo, really high energy, and featured polyrhythm and irregular asymmetric phrasing
(Danvarley, para.1). Drums gave out more beat, instruments were used in various different ways and
the saxophone and trumpet became the leading instruments giving both Coltrane and Davis freedom to

Epigenetic Cell Memory Essay
Cellular phenotypes can be ascribed to different patterns of gene expression. Epigenetic mechanisms
control the generation of different phenotypes from the same genotype. Thus differentiation is
basically a process driven by changes in gene activity during development, often in response to
transient factors or environmental stimuli. To keep the specific characteristics of cell types, tissue‐
specific gene expression patterns must be transmitted stably from one cell to the daughter cells, also in
the absence of the early‐acting determination factors. This heritability of patterns of active and
inactive genes is enabled by mechanisms of epigenetic cellular memory that ensures mitotic and
sometimes also meiotic transmission of expression patterns [1]. ... Show more content on

The cell memory machinery is involved in maintaining cell type specific gene expression patterns
rather than its establishment. Cellular memory is provided by two counteracting groups of chromatin
proteins termed Trithorax group (TrxG) and Polycomb group (PcG) [2]. Proteins of the Polycomb
group (PcG) and of the trithorax group (trxG) are involved in the regulation of key developmental
genes, such as homeotic genes. PcG proteins maintain silent states of gene expression, while the trxG
of genes counteracts silencing with a chromatin opening function. In Drosophila, PcG and trxG
complexes are recruited to specific DNA elements named as PcG and trxG response elements (PREs
and TREs, respectively). Once recruited, these complexes seem to be able to establish silent or open
chromatin states that can be inherited through multiple cell divisions even after decay of the primary
silencing or activating signal

this led to a more independent Canada. As the countries signed the Treaty of Versailles, Britain
allowed Canada to sign the Treaty of Versailles as well, planting the first seeds of Canadian autonomy.
To conclude, World War I had a major impact on Canadian identity and led to a change in Canadian
independence from Britain. Furthermore, World War I is Canada s most defining moment because of
Canada s war efforts. As stated, the military efforts from Canada were huge and it played a huge role
in the defeat of the Axis. But, it is important to note that it was not just military efforts that Canada put
forth towards its war efforts, there were other factors involved as well. Canada invoked conscription
during this time as part of their war efforts. This even created problems between English and French
Canada. As the romantic idea of war was destroyed when people realized the amount of casualties at
war, many men did not volunteer to go to war themselves. The people who went to war came back in
terrible conditions. In 1917, Sam Hughes stated that only 5% of soldiers were French Canadians and

Literature Review The article Genetic Engineering to Improve Quality, Productivity and Value of
Crops by Abhaya Dandekar provides information on the various benefits that genetic engineering
allows for in a plant. Regarding nutritional benefits, genes that concern the production of healthy
amino acids, oils, and other substances can be edited, removed, or introduced to increase the
abundance of these helpful substances, allowing for generally healthier crops. Studies on the popular
plant Arabidopsis thaliana have revealed much about influencing when a plant will begin to flower.
This research is valuable in that it permits a better understanding of how to control the length of the
period of time between the growing stage of a plant, and the flowering stage (when it can be
harvested). In crops such as cabbage, the flowering stage can be stopped altogether, letting the leaves
themselves be harvested, instead of having the plant die after flowering. Influencing the heat or cold
resistance of a plant could allow for the crop to grow in temperatures that it normally wouldn t be able
to, such as having genetically modified bananas manage to grow in a

Cultural Competence Of Law Enforcement Agencies
Discussion
Although the questionnaire and interview processes are useful in gaining a better understanding of the
cultural competence of law enforcement agencies, they are not helpful in improving the cultural
competency of those agencies. This is where instituting mandatory cultural competency training
comes into play. For example, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission proposed steps and
recommendations to increase cultural competency and one of those steps was to develop and deploy
effective EEO and diversity/inclusion training for different state and local law enforcement audiences,
including department leadership, human resources, and hiring officials, union leadership, and
individual officers. (Yang, 2015). While this recommendation pertains to hiring practices, it would
also be very beneficial for law enforcement agencies to have trainings. Cultural competency training is
important and would greatly improve relations between law enforcement and the community.
A study by the Pew Research Center found that very few people in the U.S. say police forces do well
in treating people equally. (Pew Research Center, 2014). It is likely that the results from the Pew study
would be similar if the study were limited to Texas. Perhaps the results would be even worse in Texas
in light of the recent incident in which officer Miller shot and killed Christian Taylor. The study
illustrates how poorly the public views law enforcement in regards to treating people equally. Studies

Civil Service Reform Analysis
The Founders of the United States had strongly feared a tyrant government rising to power again after
the American revolution; therefore, they adopted The Constitution of the United States in the
eighteenth century. The Constitution had offered citizens many basic liberties and protections from an
overreaching and powerful government, it did not, however, offer a civil service system for the
government to follow based upon merit. According to Naff, Riccucci, Freyss, Although a civil service
has been long feature of the government, a career civil service based upon merit had, until the
twentieth century, been a historical novelty (2014, p. 4). Thus, reform efforts of the American civil
service system can be dated back to the very beginning of when the United States was first formed
(Naff et al., 2014). Why were demands of reform so necessary in the very beginning of the United
States as it was just being formed? The seventh president of the United States, Andrew Jackson had

Garfield created a driving force for the first significant civil service reform (Naff et al., 2014). Charles
Guiteau, a officer seeker, felt shorted when Garfield refused to award him a position in his office after
winning his 1880 Presidential campaign. Guiteau felt his efforts during Garfield s campaign were
largely responsible for his political victory; therefore, knowing that Chester A. Arthur, Garfield s Vice
President, was a supporter of the spoils system, Guiteau decided to take Garfield s life to ensure
Arthur would become the next President and properly reward him for his efforts (Naff et al., 2014). It
became clear that the Spoils System possessed many dangers and reform was desperately needed.
Therefore, according to Naff et al., On January 16, 1883, President Arthur signed the Pendleton Act
into law, creating the U.S. Civil Service Commission (2014, p.

to create art is called modeling clay. Modeling clay may be used for pottery or just plain sculpting. To

clay. Many characteristics contribute to the creation and structure of Play Doh. These main ingredients
include water and salt. The salt dissolves most of the water in clay, so it doesn t make the clay too
spongy. This modeling dough is composed of water, starch based binder, salt, lubricant, surfactant,
preservative, hardener, humectant, fragrance, food coloring, and wheat. Water, starch based binder,
and salt create the clay itself. The rest of the ingredients help the mixture, adding specific

it will shrink more. This is because all the small particles are now far apart so they have to cover more

The Cultural Dimension Scores Provided By Geert Hofstede...
Six Dimensions of Culture
Understanding cultural differences can enable leaders to more effectively support and manage their
followers. Realizing that a leadership style that works in one culture may not result in the same
outcome in another country is paramount to foster strong work relationships. This essay will review
the cultural dimension scores provided by Geert Hofstede for the United States and Sweden and
explore how these differences impact workplace relationships and leadership strategy.
Power Distance
Geer Hostede describes power distance as the degree less powerful members of a society or workforce
accept the inequalities in power ( Dimensions Geert Hostede, n.d.). The United States scores 40
compared to 31 for Sweden. Both countries scored fairly low in power distance suggesting equality is
central desire. Lower ranking staff members in societies that exhibit small power ranking scores
expect to be consulted (Hostede, 2011). Participative leaders could be very effective in this society as
the defining qualities of this leadership style include collaboration and seeking consensus in decision
making. Employees in both countries expect to be treated with equality and will not follow leadership
blindly.
Individualism
The United States (91) and Sweden (71) both scored high in the individualism dimension. The
individualism dimension measures the emphasis a society places on individual s verses groups.

Central Park Essay
Central Park
Central Park was the first landscaped public park in the United States. Advocates of creating the park
primarily wealthy merchants and landowners admired the public grounds of London and Paris and
urged that New York needed a comparable facility to establish its international reputation. A public
park, they argued, would offer their own families an attractive setting for carriage rides and provide
working class New Yorkers with a healthy alternative to the saloon. After three years of debate over
the park site and cost, in 1853 the state legislature authorized the City of New York to use the power
of eminent domain to acquire more than 700 acres of land in the center of Manhattan. An irregular

After a new city charter in 1870 restored the park to local control, the mayor appointed park
commissioners. In 1857, the Central Park Commission held the country s first landscape design
contest and selected the Greensward Plan, submitted by Frederick Law Olmsted, the park s
superintendent at the time, and Calvert Vaux, an English born architect and former partner of the
popular landscape gardener, Andrew Jackson Downing. The designers sought to create a pastoral
landscape in the English romantic tradition. Open rolling meadows contrasted with the picturesque
effects of the Ramble and the more formal dress grounds of the Mall (Promenade) and Bethesda
Terrace. In order to maintain a feeling of uninterrupted expanse, Olmsted and Vaux sank four
Transverse Roads eight feet below the park s surface to carry cross town traffic. Responding to
pressure from local critics, the designers also revised their plan s circulation system to separate
carriage drives, pedestrian walks, and equestrian paths. Vaux, assisted by Jacob Wrey Mould, designed
more than forty bridges to eliminate grade crossings between the different routes. The building of
Central Park was one of nineteenth century New York s most massive public works projects. Some
20,000 workers Yankee engineers, Irish laborers, German gardeners, and native born stonecutters

Summary Of Brahms Symphony No. 4
Brahms wrote Symphony No. 4 in E Minor in 1884. The work was first performed in Meiningen,
Germany in October 1885 and was an instant success because of its masterful composition and unique
style. Brahms s music and his fourth symphony are often viewed as a bridge between the music of the
baroque and romantic era. Although Brahms is considered to be a romantic composer, his music is
unique from others because you can hear both the style of older era composers and features of
romantic style in the texture of his works. This combination of baroque and romantic style in his
music helps create more balance in the music, which gives it a blend that captured audiences and still
entrances them today. Brahms was also inspired by study of Beethoven s symphonies for their
orchestral color and harmonic structure; Brahms incorporates these features he enjoyed into his
writing. The fourth movement of Brahms symphony No. 4 is titled Allegro energico e passianato and
is known for its use of the Baroque style of Chaconne and other features that are found in the
Romantic style as well. Some of these include chromaticism, a melody that jumps between major and
minor keys but does not settle into a single mode, and extended techniques to creature a richness and a
wide pallet of sounds.
Brahms was a scholar and had a strong interest in Baroque music. His fourth movement makes use of
the Chaconne style. It is a series of repeated variations and chord progressions, a form of ostinato or

  • 3. Lusitania Sinking April second, President Wilson requested a declaration of war for Germany. America officially entered World War One on April fourth, shortly after Congress passed a two hundred fifty million arms appropriations bill intended to prepare the United States for war. However, the United States had been preparing since February twenty second, when Congress passed a two hundred fifty million dollar arms appropriations bill. President Woodrow Wilson announced that the United States of America was to be neutral for World War One, which started in 1914. The American population, in majority, favored this decision. Public opinion changed for the United States when the Lusitania, a ship headed to Liverpool, England, was sunk. On February fourth nineteen fifteen the water surrounding the British Isles was declared a war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was announced through several United States newspapers, some on the same page that advertised the Lusitania trip. One of the United States trading partners at the time was Britain, and the submarine warfare interfered with trade and caused tension to rise. German submarines were known for watching ships movements, so the British Admiralty warned the Lusitania to be careful in the area lined out by the unrestricted submarine warfare. They suggested that at minimum, the liner should zigzag in order to confuse the Germans. May seventh, nineteen fifteen, the Lusitania is sunk by a German Submarine, ending the lives of over one thousand three hundred passengers and one hundred thirty Americans. The captain of the ocean liner had ignored the British Admiralty s warnings and recommendations, leading up to the attack on the starboard side. The torpedo that hit the Lusitania was followed by a larger explosion, assumed to be the ship s boilers. The ship sank less than twenty minutes later near the sothern coast of Ireland. • 4. Humans Causing Decline in Biodiversity Essays As far as we can say, intelligent, modern humans have been around for roughly 50,000 years, and in that time have altered the earth beyond recognition (Morrison, 2006). Most evident in recent years, the rapidity of technological advances both during and post the industrial revolution has been astonishing, but has come with a hefty ecological price. There is wide scientific consensus that we are presently witnessing the obsolescence of species on a prodigious scale. We are now having to accept the possibility that humans might just be a contributing influence. Predominantly we rely on one measure to compare the rate of species loss between various moments in history. The background rate of extinction is approximately 1 extinction per ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Mascarene island of Mauritius national emblem remains to this day the dodo, despite the fact that it is one of the most infamous cases of manmade extinction. Previously isolated from humans, the largest member of the pigeon family possessed a curious and innocently trusting nature when sailors first arrived on the island in the early 1600 s. Despite its flesh being absurdly tasteless, the dodo s gullibility and lack of leggy zip (Bryson, 2003) proved an irresistible target for young seamen and their pets. So blissfully ignorant was the raphus cucullatus that you had only to set one squawking and all its friends from the immediate surroundings would rush to your side. Within seventy years of our first meeting with the dodos the last one was dead, pointlessly hunted to extinction by humans and the animals we introduced (Flannery Schouten, 2001). Myriad methods exist through which we are directly and indirectly placing pressure on flora and fauna. A growing global population puts more strain on the agriculture industry, triggering agrarian and urban expansion. Land clearing reduces habitat size, while large environmental enterprises such as the damming of rivers can either flood or dehydrate vast areas of terrain. Although not so common nowadays, introduced species have in the past entirely missed their intended purpose, eventually poisoning, killing or in the very least competing with native animals. The hot temperature water had the shortest time, and in all three trials it did not last longer that 3 and a half minutes. The room temperature water had an average time of 13 minutes and 43 seconds and the cold temperature water had an average temperature 13 minutes and 44 seconds. The cold temperature water had one second longer duration than the room temperature this is because in the 3rd trial the cold temperature water lasted over 15 minutes. The copper sulfate crystals could have been different sizes, even though we tried to keep them relatively the same size during the experiment. Another thing that could have gone wrong with the experiment is that there was inconsistent stirring during the trials with different temperature water, which could have affected the duration of the luminols light. The biggest concern that happened with the experiment was that the lights duration is guessed by the scientists doing the experiment, there is no way to know that the solution is done glowing scientifically. If the experiment was to be redone, it would be best if a few parts were changed. instead of doing individual crystals you could do scoops of crystals, so that the size of the crystal wouldn t affect the experiment and it would be a constant amount throughout the experiment and the different trails. Another thing that could be altered would be that there could somehow be a consistent way to know for sure when the luminol s light went out. In a variation of the project you could try different amounts of copper sulfate crystals, probate mixture, or luminol mixture on the same amount of water. Thoughtful Change In Macbeth Essay Macbeth: A Journey of Thoughtful Changes In Macbeth, a play by William Shakespeare, a soldier, Macbeth, ruins an entire country by killing to obtain power, all because of three prophesying witches. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s lust for power has caused them to make many unforgivable mistakes to which gluttony and greed for power, treason, and murder are only the beginning. At this point, she is not interested in doing the killing herself, she just doesn t believe that Macbeth has the strength within himself to kill. Lady Macbeth changes, however, when she states, That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, / And fill me from the crown to the toe top full/ Of direst cruelty. Make thick my blood. (1.5.31 33). In this statement that she made, Lady Macbeth is asking to be unsexed, which means that she wishes that she was no longer a woman, but instead a man. The reason behind this is because lady Macbeth is becoming evil, and wish to kill. But it was not allowed for women to think such impure thoughts, so she wished to be a man to carry out the horrendous deeds that she wished for. The last change within Lady Macbeth is the same as Macbeth: guilt. When the doctor was talking to the gentlewoman, the gentlewoman said, Why, it stood by her. She has light by her continually. / Tis her command. (5.1.16 17). Light is symbolic of innocence and purity. Some people believe that society can prevent people from committing such horrific acts. However, contrary to the belief that brutality can disappear, the terrible acts by humans are not going to disappear because brutality is human nature. People are naturally cruel, and regardless of people s effort or the environment, one is inclined to be brutal. In Maggie Nelson s Great Watch, Nelson explains how people can be adapt to brutality. • 10. Analysis Of The Unforgiven I Metallica is a heavy metal band that began in 1981. While the last song released by the band was in 2008, the group is still widely popular. Perhaps the most popular songs are the The Unforgiven trilogy. The Unforgiven I is one of Metallica s most popular singles, behind Enter Sandman which is on the same album. Metallica s lead singer James Hetfield wrote the three songs about his life experiences, which is different from most of Metallica s work. The majority of Metallica s hits promote individuality and non conformism (Nys 41). This trilogy of songs however is a story of heartbreak. They tell an overwhelmingly emotional story of resentment towards those who tried to control him (Irwin 7). James wrote these songs to pour out his emotions and express how he felt. Hetfield was born into a deeply religious family. His mother was a Christian, and she believed heavily that if one is meant to be healed, God will heal that person ( Ten things You May Not Know about James Hetfield ). As a result of this belief, when she was diagnosed with cancer, she did not seek medical help. She waited for God to heal her. Unfortunately, after waiting for God to heal her, she did not beat cancer and she died. This event fueled The Unforgiven trilogy and led to another work, The God that Failed. I believe more emphasis needs to be put on academics the reason we come to school. Right now, the eligibility requirements to play sports are that the student athlete must not have a grade of one D and one F. Grades are checked on every three weeks. I believe our school can do better. I think that a grade of two D s, which will be checked on every week, should be this school s requirement. Let s raise the bar! At the honor roll ceremony, I noticed that almost all of the students, junior and senior high, were all recognized. In addition, 0% of students, in the junior high, were ineligible in the past nine weeks. Since our school is already surpassing the requirements made, why not raise them? It s becoming too easy to be eligible, with the obviously intelligent students we have here at Little River schools. It will put more emphasis on schoolwork and students will be able to achieve even more impressive and notable grades. • 15. Religion In Emily Dickinson Emily Dickinson was one of the most ambiguous authors of her time. Her poetry remains a mystery to so many readers and her lack of biographical information makes her writing even more intriguing. Dickinson spent most of her life away from society, therefore, very few people knew how she viewed the aspects of life, let alone knew what her writing meant. Her interpretations of concepts such as religion, nature, and death are often seen as contradicting and pinning one specific thesis on her views is difficult because she viewed many things with complexity. Among her poems, readers see a diversity in her perspectives. For example, she might write one poem about the beauties of nature and continue to write another poem about the dangers or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similar ambivalent themes are seen in Dickinson s views of death. Death is primarily seen in a negative light and she supports that perspective in I heard a Fly buzz when I died When Dickinson starts this poem, the reader senses a feeling of control from the narrator. The narrator is ready for death and accepting it; she writes I willed my keepsakes Signed away/ What portion of me be/ Assignable and the audience sees her willingness to go. However, There interposed a Fly and this fly s interruption created a change in tone. The narrator felt the windows fail and this could be seen as a metaphor for losing her spot in heaven. This poem makes death seem almost scary and one could assume that Dickinson views death this way. Contrarily, in I like a look of Agony she portrays death as a serene, authentic concept. The narrator says there is no faking death and that s what they most appreciate of death. Dickinson creates a relaxing tone associated with death and upon reading this certain poem, a reader may assume she views death as calm and genuine. Emily Dickinson also wrote plenty about nature, seeing as she was constantly around it rather than actual humans. Her views of nature vary from optimistic and intoxicating to frightening and threatening. In her poem There s a certain Slant of light , she carries a holy and amazed mood throughout it. Using words like Heavenly and Cathedral support the holiness in the text. The narrator is amazed at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some people think that death penalty is the way to constrain people to do not offend or violate the legislation while some have an argument that this punishment should be abolished. In this essay, I will compare two articles. Why Japanese support the death penalty? by Shanhe Jiang, Rebecca Pilot, and Toyoji Saito (2010)(article 1) and Does it matter if the Death Penalty is Arbitrarily Administered ? by Stephen Nathanson (2009)(article2). These two articles are very different. The former article is based on quantitative research and explains why Japanese people take sides with the death penalty. However, the latter article is based on qualitative research and describes capital punishment should be abolished. I propose to summarize the main ideas of two articles, compare both in many aspects, and conclude in my own opinion. Summary 1. The purpose of the research The first article, the main purpose of the authors is apparently on the topic of their article which is to investigate the reason why Japanese participants support or oppose the death penalty. The second article, the writer also shows the practice of the capital punishment. However, this article is related to the abolishment. The aim of this article is to investigate the debates about the death penalty that is eliminated due to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Epigenetic mechanisms control the generation of different phenotypes from the same genotype. Thus differentiation is basically a process driven by changes in gene activity during development, often in response to transient factors or environmental stimuli. To keep the specific characteristics of cell types, tissue‐ specific gene expression patterns must be transmitted stably from one cell to the daughter cells, also in the absence of the early‐acting determination factors. This heritability of patterns of active and inactive genes is enabled by mechanisms of epigenetic cellular memory that ensures mitotic and sometimes also meiotic transmission of expression patterns [1]. ... PcG proteins maintain silent states of gene expression, while the trxG of genes counteracts silencing with a chromatin opening function. In Drosophila, PcG and trxG complexes are recruited to specific DNA elements named as PcG and trxG response elements (PREs and TREs, respectively). Cultural Competence Of Law Enforcement Agencies Discussion Although the questionnaire and interview processes are useful in gaining a better understanding of the cultural competence of law enforcement agencies, they are not helpful in improving the cultural competency of those agencies. For example, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission proposed steps and recommendations to increase cultural competency and one of those steps was to develop and deploy effective EEO and diversity/inclusion training for different state and local law enforcement audiences, including department leadership, human resources, and hiring officials, union leadership, and individual officers. Six Dimensions of Culture Understanding cultural differences can enable leaders to more effectively support and manage their followers. Realizing that a leadership style that works in one culture may not result in the same outcome in another country is paramount to foster strong work relationships. This essay will review the cultural dimension scores provided by Geert Hofstede for the United States and Sweden and explore how these differences impact workplace relationships and leadership strategy. Power Distance Geer Hostede describes power distance as the degree less powerful members of a society or workforce accept the inequalities in power ( Dimensions Geert Hostede, n.d.). The United States scores 40 compared to 31 for Sweden. Both countries scored fairly low in power distance suggesting equality is central desire. Lower ranking staff members in societies that exhibit small power ranking scores expect to be consulted (Hostede, 2011). Participative leaders could be very effective in this society as the defining qualities of this leadership style include collaboration and seeking consensus in decision making. Employees in both countries expect to be treated with equality and will not follow leadership blindly. Individualism The United States (91) and Sweden (71) both scored high in the individualism dimension. The individualism dimension measures the emphasis a society places on individual s verses groups.
