2. Persuasive Water Crisis
Summer is just around the corner, and with it will come the usual high temperatures and sweaty
afternoons. It s this time of year that you find yourself using a bit more water than normal,
whether to wash off or rehydrate. And few things are more enjoyable than coming inside on a
stifling summer afternoon to drink a cool glass of water before heading to the shower to freshen
up. That said, few things are more discouraging than filling up your glass of water to see not a
crystal clear liquid float up to the brim but instead what looks like a discolored puddle pouring into
your cup, maybe with bits of unidentifiable particles haphazardly swimming about. This image is
neither appealing to your parched tongue nor your in need of a shower body. It s pretty evident that
something is wrong with your water supply, and that it s been contaminated somehow or another.
But what happened? If you hire a professional... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It essentially means that there is no valve to control the flow of water from the city s public
water supply and your own, allowing for contamination of both systems. There are two specific
types of this undesirable problem backpressure and backsiphonage. Backpressure problems are
caused when the downstream pressure is greater than the upstream or supply pressure from the
public water system; this scenario occurs from either an increase in downstream pressure, a
decrease in water supply pressure, or a combination of the two. Backsiphonage is, as you have
probably figured out, just the opposite of backpressure that is, it arises from negative pressure in
the public water system. Backsiphonage typically occurs when there is a notable stoppage of
water supply to other systems due to a fire hydrant being in use or a break in the water main.
Without getting too technical, the long and short of this is that neither of these are good news for
the sanitation of your water

3. The United States And Cuba Essay
The United States and Cuba
The United States is the leader of the free world. The United States exercises strength in this role
through trade agreements and military strength. Because of this, the foreign policies the United
States puts into place greatly affect the economies of other countries. This is especially true of Cuba
. The island of Cuba is just over 100 miles south of the Florida border.
The United States and Cuba have struggled to find common ground in regards to foreign policy
over the past few decades. In the Cold War, Fidel Castro, who would later become the dictator of
Cuba took control of Havana and with his revolutionaries overthrew Fulgencio Batista. The United
States disagreed with the communist ideology of Castro, but let him rule anyway. The United
States took economic issue only after Cuba began increasing trade with the communist Soviet
Union. What began as a reducing sugar imports from Cuba soon became a ban on almost of the
products Cuba was exporting. The Bay of Pigs invasion, where the United States tried to oust Fidel
Castro with help from the Central Intelligence Agency, was unsuccessful and deepened the rift
between these two countries. Cuba retaliated by granting permission to the Soviet Union to
construct a missile base on Cuba. The United States then threatened to invade Cuba. This famous
Cuban Missile Crisis was eventually averted. More importantly, it effectively demonstrates the
mistrust between the United States and Cuba.

Ivory Is it worth it?
Everyday elephants and rhinos are being poached in order to get their tusks and horns. These
tusks and horns are made of ivory which is sold for very large sums. Many things are being done
to stop poaching but elephants and rhinos are still being poached.
People in Asia mainly China are the main buyers of ivory from illegally poached rhinos and
elephants. The ivory business is a multi million dollar business. They buy elephant tusks for $1,500
per pound. Rhino horns are $45,000 per pound, or $6,000 for 100 grams. Many things are trying
to be done but there is still illegal ivory trading. There is a near total ban on ivory in the US. The
Chinese government has become stricter so people trade in Vietnam and Laos where there is a
less strict government. The main buyers of ivory are in Asia but people don t want to change their
ways so many people still participate in the business of ivory trading.
Elephants and rhinos are disappearing at an alarming rate due to illegal poaching. Many elephants
are being killed everyday and they could soon be extinct. Tanzania s elephant population decreased
by two thirds and Mozambique s fell by 40%. Elephants have dropped in population from more
than 10 million to only 479,000 today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Wound Cleansing: Water or Normal Saline? Wound cleansing has been discussed about for many
years, different solutions and techniques have been discussed to use, and it is an important part of
preventing infection. Wound cleansing is described as the use of fluids to remove debris and dead
tissue from the surface of the wound. The purpose of wound cleansing is to make the best possible
conditions at the wound site, for uncomplicated wound healing. The most commonly used solution
would be normal saline due to being an isotonic solution and it does not disrupt with normal

One of the articles that was reviewed to determine if tap water would be appropriate for wound
cleansing was a systematic review by Fernandez and Griffiths (2007). In this study, various
randomized and quasi randomized controlled trials comparing the effects of water with other
solutions for wound cleansing were assessed. Of the nine trials used in this study, five trials were
identified that compared the rates of infection in wounds cleansed with water or normal saline
(Fernandez amp; Griffiths, 2007). These trials involved people of all ages, with a wound of any
etiology, in different settings including hospitals, communities, nursing homes, general practice,
and wound clinics. The trials also included an objective measure of wound infection, such as
bacterial counts, wound cultures, or wound biopsy (Fernandez amp; Griffiths, 2007). After data
extraction and analysis of the trials, the authors concluded that there was no statistical significance
between cleansing with tap water and normal saline (Fernandez amp; Griffiths, 2007). However,
the authors also acknowledged two major flaws in this review, including the lack of consistency in
the criteria and validated tools of measurement used to assess wound infection, as well as
insufficient detail in reporting the method used for

I have attached an analysis for your review. This analysis reflects a comparison for Variable Cost

Sales:60,000 units
Production:80,000 units

Based on these analyses I have made several recommendations along with pros and cons to aid in
the decision making process.
I recommend that we use absorption costing over variable costing. Absorption costing is a method
where ...fixed manufacturing costs are inventoriable costs (Datar, et al, 2009). That is, inventory
absorbs all manufacturing costs. In the absorption metho there does not need to be a distinction
between fixe and variable costs.

We should experience some of the following positives after implementing JIT:
Supply Chain Management: The JIT inventory model may assist in being more efficient in the
way we handle supply chains and use our parts to assemble products. We can provide lower costs
throughout the manufacturing process; which can be passed on to our customers. With our lower
costs, we could produce a more affordable product for our customers and thereby help to stay ahead
of our competitors.
Reduction of Waste: By maintaining our current method we are housing products that go unused
and/or become obsolete. This causes us to sell product at a reduced price often less than cost or we
must dump the product with no money gained at all. The JIT inventory model should help to
address this situation and by housing fewer products in the warehouses we could address our
customer needs quicker and be open to customized orders.
Reduction in Warehouse Costs: It can be costly to keep excess inventory on hand. By moving to
JIT we may be able to reduce the number of warehouses we currently have as well as eliminate
excess storage.
Improved Customer Relations: Adopting the JIT model will allow for better servicing of our
customers. Having greater control of the manufacturing process will make it easier to respond to
our customers needs and any changes they may have or require.
While I have high lited the positives above we must also consider possible negative aspects.

Peace, love, and unity should prevail for people to live with harmony with each other and unless

society. It is very important to note that every person was created differently and therefore, have
their own unique features and characteristics and it would be wrong to discriminate against one
another on any grounds. However, there are certain human qualities such as homosexuality and
lesbianism that are highly controversial in the society today; various factions of people present
their views on the issue. There are those who oppose them by terming them as immoral and there
are those support them by terming them as human rights (Blackwell, Ricks Dziegielewski, 2004).
One person who stands out openly to call for homosexuals rights is the former president s wife,
Hillary Clinton, who made her opinion on this issue public at Geneva where she attended a

Status sets refers to all the statuses or positions you occupy, such as being a mother, student,

It is how we present our self in everyday life and the reasons we act the way we do. Reasons that
may affect how we present ourselves are the kind stage we re on, role performance, role
conflicts, and role strain. The difference between role and status is that you occupy a status, but
you play a role (Linton 1936). Although statuses are macrosociology based, there is still
confusion between roles and statuses. Goffman believed that there were stages in which we
performed our assigned roles such as front stage and back stage. The front stage is wherever we
deliver our lines for example, taking the role of your occupation. The back stage is a place we
can relax, have some privacy, and reflect from the front stage. For example, being in your
bedroom not having to worry about a thing and being able to discuss what happened on the front
stage. This can affect how we present ourselves because when we re in the front stage we re
putting up in act to present our self to whoever our audience is. Whereas in the back stage we
have no one to put on a show for and we can relax and let loose. Role performance is similar with
role conflict because a role performance is a certain interpretation that you give your role. For
example, I can play the role as a good student and turn in all my assignments in on time, score high

12. A Reflection On The Racquetball Curriculum
The racquetball curriculum has a lot to offer outside the realm of physical activity. Racquetball
proves to be great exercise, but can also be a great learning experience. My time throughout the
class has been a wonderful learning experience. After completing the racquetball course I will have
learned plenty in which I can apply to my futurelife. Before my enrollment in racquetball I had
little to no knowledge of the sport. If someone had asked me to describe the sport as a whole I
would not have been able to adequately do so. Having no knowledge of the rules, terminology, or
tactics behind the game, one could conclude that I knew next to nothing about racquetball. During
the length of the course I spent much of my time on the court learning, improving, and developing
an understanding of the activity. I have developed an appreciation for the game and those who
play it. Racquetball itself proves to be much more complex than what I had originally though.
Cleary simply hitting the ball does not prove to be an proficient play style as I had once assumed.
This will no doubt defer me from making assumptions about other sports in the future. This was a
worthwhile learning experience as a whole, and developing an appreciation for the game is not the
only thing I will take away from this class. Alongside debunking any misconceptions I once had,
racquetball also reinforced the importance of diet in the everyday lifestyle. Aside from the countless
things learned on the court, I

As cold enters further into your body it will eventually reach your internal organs. To much cold
in the internal organs can cause diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pains, and intestinal noises (Reid

Deficiency of yang energy can occur when you eat too many cold foods (Reid 37 9). Wind

21. Sol And Aquara Short Story
Sol and Luna lived high in the heavens in their shimmering thrones above Terro, the earth. One
day Luna had a baby. That baby s name was Aquara. She grew up in the heavens and slowly
developed an aching love for Terro. She watched and watched, then as she grew older she
decided to move to be with Terro. They lived intertwined in everlasting love for many years,
Aquara surrounding Terro with her devoted emotion.. As time went on Sol realized a problem.
He knew that he needed to have a place for beings to live. He couldn t put beings on Terro, for he
was covered in Aquara s long draping navy blue cloak. Sol knew that the only way was to split
them apart. One day Sol reached down to Terro and Aquara, and split them apart and placed them
side by side. Terro understood and thanked Sol for letting them still be close. Aquara on the other
hand, was agonized. Sol placed all the animals down to Terro. He nurtured and nourished them as
Aquara sat in silence. Finally she broke down.
Anger and outrage struck her. Who is he to tell me what I can do?
Her body started shaking, her legs trembling, her eyes changed from a royal blue to a smoldering
red. With an ear piercing cry she shouted to the heavens. You will pay for this! you will pay!
Aquara violently rose up to the heavens, high above Terro. With a terrorizing scream, she forced...

22. Optimization For The Design Of Load Frequency Control
PSO OPTIMIZED FLC FOR THE DESIGN OF LOAD FREQUENCY CONTROL
M. MAHAMMED JABEER
Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Electronics Engineering,
AVR SVR Engineering College, Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh.
Abstract: Load frequency control problem is considered as one of the most important issues in the
design operation of power systems. Due to lack of good efficiency in parameters variation
conditions, working conditions of system and non linear factors, a simple PI controller is not
suitable in industrial applications. Instead, fuzzy controllers can be used in order to enhance the
performances of the systems. In this paper, the use of the optimized type 1 fuzzy logic controller
using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is proposed to solve the load frequency
control problem. To the best of our knowledge, the PSO optimization of fuzzy type 1 controller in
order to solve load frequency control problem, has not been investigated so far. The proposed
controller has good performance and is capable to solve the load frequency control problem in
conditions of wide variations of system parameters and nonlinear factors such as generation rate
constraint. Simulation results show that the optimized fuzzy controller proposed in this paper
exhibits better performance compared to PI controller in damping of system deviations.
Key words: power system, load frequency control, type 1 fuzzy logic controller, PSO algorithm.

illustrates his view of being an American through his use of symbolism and imagery. An example

through life. Textual evidence from the poem Song of the Open Road lines 16 and 17 shows the
freedom we have of being an American. Some might argue that Langston Hughes view of being an

25. Intrusion Detection System ( Ids )
Abstract Increasing attacks and intrusion of the Internet and computer systems necessitate the need
for Intrusion Detection System (IDS) to prevent attacks. Genetic Algorithm (GA) is applied to
support IDS. Fitness function and GA operators crossover, mutation, and population representation
play an important role in improving the performance of an IDS: high detection rate, and low false
positive rate. This paper suggests a Fitness Function using Reward Penalty technique that rewards
the good chromosome and penalizes the bad chromosome, for improved performance. We suggest
that the GA parameters be optimized for better IDS performance.
Keywords Intrusion detection; genetic algorithm; fitness function; detection rate; false positive rate.
I.INTRODUCTION
Intrusion can be defined as the actions that attempt to compromise the integrity, confidentiality, or
availability of a computer resource [1]. Intrusion Detection System is a software or device to
discover the intrusion activity. Based on detection process, IDS can be classified into two groups:
Anomaly detection, and misuse/signature detection. Anomaly detection looks for rare or unusual
network activities, while misuse/signature detection uses past well known attack patterns signature
to identify illegal activities. This paper deals with only misuse/signature detection in computer
networks. Network attack types can be categorized into the following groups:

26. American Dream in the Film, The Pursuit of Happyness Essay
Today, The American dream is not fully represented in the same way as the ideas were initially
raised. The ideas were primarily fabricated in the very beginning of our country. The propagandist
role of any medium has changed just as much as the times have since the signing of the
Declaration of Independence. In contemporary America, film is the leading component of the
propagation and detraction of the American dream. The film The Pursuit of Happyness (2005)
supports the idea of the American dream our founding fathers set out. Wall Street (1987) on the
other hand, supports and acts as a detractor of the true American dream and leads people to

These unalienable rights: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness set the stage for the possibility
of any person to pursue what makes them happy and not be bound by any restrictions since all men
are created equal. This combined with the tenacity or determination of the American people to be
treated equally truly defines what the American dream is. Propaganda of the American dream in
the earlier parts of our country was promoted through the ideas of our government and the known
ability to be free. This eventually evolved into propaganda by entertainment such as posters,
newspapers, film and anything that would reflect on a large audience . In this day in time, we get
most of our propaganda through television. The cause of this is the increase in popularity of
watching television or films over reading books. If this were not happening people may get their
view of the American dream through literature ranging from the autobiography of Benjamin
Franklin to Mark Twain s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn , which promote the American
Dream as it was intended. So, the role of American Films acting on the thoughts of Americans is
changing just as quickly as technology, for retrieving information at least. Knowing this, the

Protecting Floodplains by Aaron Dante Mamiit
Flooding is a constant issue faced by Metro Manila. Although there are times when flooding is
merely an inconvenient and annoying event, there are also times when it develops into something
much more frightening and dangerous.
But why is Metro Manila so badly plagued by floods anyway?
One of the reasons why Metro Manila constantly battles with the flood problem is because a large
part of it is situated on a floodplain.
What are floodplains?
Floodplains are landscapes that are formed when running water, often in streams and rivers,
transports eroded rock and other similar materials from their banks to a lower part of the Earth s
surface. At these lower parts, the flow of water slows down, and the rock and materials that the
water is carrying are dropped.
This leads to the creation of deposital landforms. One of these landforms is the floodplain.
Floodplains are nearly flat, hence the plains part of their name. The flood part, on the other hand,
should be pretty obvious these floodplains are subject to periodic flooding.
What happens on floodplains?
Flooding occurs when water overflows from a stream or river. When the water levels become too
high, the water flows out of the stream channel and over the stream banks, submerging the adjacent
floodplain.
As water overflows, the material it carries sediments such as sand, gravel, clay, and silt are
deposited on the floodplain.
The larger particles are deposited first, closer

30. The Pros And Cons Of Twin Metals
Copper is a common material used in our daily lives. We use it for electrical generators and
electrical wiring. It is used in our phones and other technology. With the increase in demand for
technology, the need for copper for those products has also increased. Twin Metals is a Minnesota
mining company that wants to open an underground copper mine near the boundary waters. The
Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) is a Minnesota preserve in the Superior
National Forest that has hiking trails and lakes for canoeing. They do not allow motorised vehicles
on the preserve. The question I m investigating is Can Twin Metals open and safely operate a
copper mine near the BWCAW?
Twin Metals has spent more than five years conducting environmental studies that they plan to use
in their Environmental Impact Statement. The copper mine will produce tailings which are waste
left over from mining and extracting resources. Twin Metals plans to store half of the tailings as
cemented backfill in the mine. The rest will be stored in the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF). Twin
Metals also conducted tests that show the tailings will not generate acid. Another pro is that they
will create about 650 full time jobs and 1,300 additional jobs in industries. ... Show more content on

Branagh s Hamlet is also greater than the other two since his Hamlet has more of a method to
his madness whereas Zeffirelli s does not. In Zeffireli and Olivier s interpretation of Hamlet, he
is a lot more abusive and aggressive towards the other characters; Zeffirelli s even goes as far to
rape his mother and almost have sex with her. Branagh s act three is superior in this aspect since
Hamlet is not a powerful man but is actually more of a coward and so portraying him physically
abusing other characters does not make any sense. Branagh s portrayal of the queen is also
greater than the other two. Gertrude has a lot more power in his version and is able to stand her
ground against Hamlet; she is also the only one not to have a sexual encounter with Hamlet. This
makes Branagh s act three greater because it is more realistic that the queen would be angry with
Hamlet and stand up to him rather than being submissive to him like the other two depictions. In
this version Hamlet is much more emotional. In the other two Hamlet rarely shows his

Anti Aging Benefits of Mediterranean Diet
September 15, 2016
Jonathan Swift said, Everybody wants to live forever, but nobody wants to grow old.

Because that is a deep down desire of the majority, many people are always on a quest to slow

So, our question for today is: What are the Anti Aging Benefits of the Mediterranean Diet?
First, we must acknowledge that no diet in the world can halt or slow the aging process. Aging is
inevitable and food is not the elixir of life although the type of food you choose can lengthen or

Lignite is the softest coal. Further compression and aging caused the lignite coal to change into
bituminous coal. Bituminous is a soft, black, brittle material that is extremely flammable and
produces a lot of ash and sulfur when burned. This is the type of coal that is mined in the
Appalachian Mountains, Great Plains, and the Colorado Plateau. Heat and pressure then turn
bituminous into anthracite. Anthracite is the final stage of coal, and is composed almost entirely
of carbon. Lignite and bituminous coal are sedimentary, while anthracite is metamorphic.
Anthracite is only found where pressure and heat were very great. It doesn t produce as much heat
as bituminous coal, but it burns longer without as much residue. There are anthracite fields in
Pennsylvania and Great Britain (U.S Energy Information Administration).
The formation of the other two fossil fuels (crude oil and natural gas) took millions of years just
like coal. Oil and gas come from the remains of small animals and plants. Long ago, when the
animals and plants died, they sank to the bottom of the sea. The dead matter formed a large mass,
which over time was covered by layers of sand, silt, and mud. As the weight of the sediment
increased, the mass became more and more compressed. Then, the heat and pressure of the Earth
eventually turned the mass into oil and gas. If the heat applied during the formation was low, then
more oil was produced than gas. If the temperature was

with the Coen brothers. Roger Deakins studied at Bath Academy of Art and then extended his
education later on and went to study at the National FilmSchool. He started out as a still
photographer, but went on into the motion picture business. Deakins got his first cinematography

The owners did not allow the crew to touch anything, which was difficult for setting up lighting
equipment and necessary props. Deakins felt that balloon lights to light the interior would work
the best, however, the ceilings were very low and there was no room. These kinds of lights are
also broad sources that do not create the soft, selective wash that Roger Deakins was looking for.
The chief lighting technician of this crew, Chris Napolitano, had previously worked with Deakins
on No Country for Old Men and True Grit. He remembered a favourite lighting solution to the
lighting predicament and helped employ it for the shoot. This technique required clear, 60 watt
globes to be put into large ring lights that are fitted with forty to sixty standard, medium base
sockets. They would then install these light units around chandeliers that already exist in the
mansion s ceilings. This technique was the perfect solution to Deakins problem because it helped
create a soft pool of light around the existing fixtures and did not intrude on the space on the floor.
Deakins wanted to shoot 360 degrees, which required an empty floor, so this solution was the best
approach. The only time Deakins brought in floor lighting was to light the occasional

FUNKY SUNGLASSES the accessory that s always been practical and fashionable
The earliest historical reference to sunglasses dates back to ancient China and Rome. The Roman
emperor Nero watched gladiator fights through polished gems. In China, sunglasses were used in
the 12th century or possibly earlier. These sunglasses were made out of lenses that were flat panes
of smoky quartz. They offered no corrective powers nor did they protect from harmful UV rays,
but did protect the eyes from glare.
In prehistoric and historic time, members of various Eskimoan peoples wore flattened walrus ivory
glasses, looking through narrow slits to block harmful reflected rays of the sun.
Modern civilization began experimenting with tinted lenses in spectacles around 1752. There was
belief that blue or green tinted glass could potentially correct specific vision impairments.
Protection from the sun s rays was not a concern at this time. Glasses tinted with yellow amber and
brown were also a commonly prescribed item for people with syphilis in the 19th and early 20th
century because one of the symptoms of the disease was sensitivity to light.
In the early 1900s sunglasses became more widespread, especially among movie stars. Famous
actresses used shades to avoid recognition by fans and paparazzi, but also because they often had

example, haptic feedback which is the vibration and sensation added to interaction with graphics is
considered an augmentation. However, it is commonly used within a virtual reality setting in order
to make the experience more lifelike through touch.

Freudian Perspectives of Hamlet
The term consciousness refers to one s awareness of internal and external stimuli. The unconscious
contains thoughts, memories, and desires that are well below the surface of awareness but that

centered around Hamlet s relationship with his mother, and the relationship of Hamlet and King

In doing so, one will come to the conclusion that Hamlet is driven by forces other than what is
obvious to the reader, as well as Hamlet himself. Given this example, one must denounce the
assumption that Hamlet is aware of the forces that motivate him, and understand that Hamlet s true
motivation is unconscious This unconscious force is the true reason behind Hamlet s mysterious
behavior. In naming this force, one must look beneath the surface of Hamlet s own level of
consciousness, and into what Hamlet himself is consciously unaware. The key to understanding
Hamlet lies in the realization of the unconscious energy that provokes him to action and inaction.
By channeling into Hamlet s unconscious, providing Freudian psychoanalytical perspectives,
Hamlet s true unconscious motivation will be uncovered, and the mystery of Hamlet will be
silenced.

One idea is that we must freely make our own decisions about our life and ambitions. I believe
that the world is beautiful and diverse. It is okay to be different and being unique is better than
blending in to feel wanted. We all have a different view on life, what is right, what is wrong, and
how to live. We need to let people be themselves and not judge others because of diversity. Also,
the acts of loving, caring for, and parenting need to be our priority. When we stop caring less
about technology and more for our loved ones we will cherish what is important to us. My
children are my world and I want to show them I care by providing love, attention, support,
encouragement, and acceptance. When my children are speaking to me, I want to show them
they are being heard by looking at them and not staring at my phone. Finally, we will learn by
trial and error. We are not perfect; unfortunately, we will all make mistakes. The beauty in making
mistakes is learning from them. The world would be dull if everyone was perfect and the same.
Let s start loving our differences, accepting others choices, and learning from our own mistakes. We
need to let others make mistakes so they can learn and grow from them. To be compassionate

Ensuring robustness of financial models and the effectiveness of all systems used to calculate
market risk. Liquidity risk is the potential inability to meet the bank s liabilities as they become due
and are managed through caps on the net asset calculations in the various time buckets. Interest rate
risk is the risk where changes in market interest rates might adversely affect a bank s financial
condition. A long term impact of changing interest rate is on banks net worth since the economic
value of bank s assets, liabilities and off balance sheet positions get affected due to variation in
market interest rates.
The management of Interest Rate Risk should be one of the critical components of market risk
management in banks. Deregulation of interest rates has, however, exposed them to the adverse
impacts of interest rate risks. The Net Interest Income or Net Interest Margin (NIM) of banks is
dependent on the movements of interest rates. The GAP model for the Asset Liability Management

51. Ancient Roman Dwellings Evolved Architecturally In Time
Ancient Roman dwellings evolved architecturally in time from simple huts in the earliest times, to
sophisticated and extremely long lived structures in the later Republic and Imperial Rome following
the annexation of the Greek city states. This is very evident in many Italian and Greek cities where
archaeologists have found different occupational levels, with each lower architectural strata being
much more ancient (Lavan, Г–zgenel, Sarantis, 2007). Typically, however, Roman architecture
refers to the period from the establishment of the Roman Republic (6 century BC) to the relocation
of the capital to Constantinople in 330AD. An architectural period supported by two great
innovations: the cement and the arch.

Wealthier people had much more elaborated houses, with multiple rooms, courtyards, gardens,
and pools. This architecture provided security but also private open space for family recreation.
We can get a glimpse of how livable these houses where from surviving specimens in old villages
in Mediterranean islands, like Crete, that also preserve the Roman family structure of pater
familias, in which three or four generations live together under the leadership of the oldest male.
While each sub family has its own quarters, they all share the courtyard and dinner. The pre school
cousins, and any domestic animals, play together safely all day long in the enclosed courtyard,
under the supervision of the grandparents. Such an arrangement not only pools the resources but,
also, free the parents for working outside. In such a semi coenobitic life style, the distinction
between siblings and cousins is not as clear cut as in Western societies. However, the Roman domus
also housed the servants and slaves.
However, just like today, the vast majority of the Roman urbanites lived in cramped, multi story
apartment buildings called insulae. Even so, rich and poor people did not live segregated ghettos;
luxurious domi and shabby insulae were intermingled in the cities. At first, these buildings were
made with timber, and mud brick; however, the concreteallowed the Roman tenement buildings to
reach new heights, with some being seven stories

52. Electoral Americ The Purpose Of The Electoral College
Electoral College
The Electoral College was a compromise in order to pick a president between the Congress s
vote and the citizens vote. The selection of Electors would meet and vote for the president and
vice president, they would also count the electoral votes by Congress. There are 538 electors,
but a majority of 270 electoral votes is required to elect a vice president or a vice president. The
amount of electors equals the amount of members of the House of Representative that states have
plus two more for the Senator. Each candidate running for president has a group of electors in each
state. The candidates electors are chosen by the candidates political party but, different laws in
different states change how the electors are selected. When voting for a President we are actually
voting for our state candidates election. After the presidential election, the governor of their state
writes a Certificate of Ascertainment which list the candidates for that state as well as their
electors. The Certificate of Ascertainment also shows which electors will represent the state at the
election meeting as well as the winning presidential candidate. The meeting of the electors is held
on the first Monday after the second Wednesday in December after the presidential election. In
their respective states, the electors cast their votes for both the Vice President and President on
separate ballots. The voters votes are then recorded and sent to Congress on the Certificates of
Votes.
