Multiple Sclerosis Definition
There are four different patterns of inflammation in the white matter that is associated with individuals
with multiple sclerosis (Lassmann et. al. 2007).The first pattern of inflammation is associated with the
demyelination caused by macrophage activity. This pattern of inflammation is characterized by
perivascular demyelination with radial expansion and extensive remyelination. The second pattern of
inflammation demyelination is associated with antibody and complement activity. The lesions
exhibited in this pattern are similar to lesions that occur in the first pattern except that the active
demyelination sites demonstrate additional deposition of immunoglobulin (Ig) and activated
complement in pattern 2. Immunoglobulins are antibodies that ... Show more content on

Individuals suffering from MS face continually worsening symptoms leading to progressing disability
and early mortality. There is currently no cure and current treatments have negative impacts on the life
of the individual receiving the treatment. The story of the discovery and understanding of the disease
spans to almost two centuries of medical research and still there is much to understand. Autoimmune
disorders are becoming more common in our society and it is crucial to understand the cause of these
diseases and to develop better treatments. In the two centuries of research, the life expectancy of an
individual with MS has increased dramatically. Upon diagnosis in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s
individuals had an average life span of 10 years but today, due to advances in medical technologies,
individuals with MS may live 30 years or more. More research is required to understand how to better
treat this disease or prevent the initial autoimmune response from

The Formula And Percent Water Of Hydrated Magnesium Sulfate
Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to determine both the formula and percent water of hydrated
magnesium sulfate.
Background: According to George B. Kauffman of Britannica, a hydrate is any compound containing
water in the form of H2O molecules, usually, but not always, with a definite content of water by
weight. Within this, there are two aspects of the compound; the water of hydration and the anhydrous
salt. When a hydrate is heated, the water of hydration leaves the compound as vapor due to the
unsteady bonds between the water and salt molecules. The anhydrous salt ends up becoming the only
piece that is leftover. From the two, the percent water in a hydrate and the mass of the salt can be
determined from the loss of the water of hydration. As a result, the formula of the compound can be
found because the masses of the salt and the water can be used to determine the mole ratio, which are
both small, whole numbers.
Materials:
Gas burner
Ring stand and ring
Triangle made from clay
Crucible + lid
Crucible tongs
Wire pad
Balance scale
Spatula
Hydrated magnesium sulfate
Procedure:
Assemble the ring and ring stand atop a flat surface. Place the clay triangle in the center of the ring.
Lastly, bring the crucible with its lid into the clay triangle, so that it is hanging.
Turn on the gas burner and bring it a low heat, only to the point that there is a blue flame. Carefully
push the gas burner under the crucible and heat for around two minutes in order to properly

Analysis Of The Toronto Eaton Center By Ernst Cassirer
Architecture matters, it is omnipresence; we use and encounter it on a daily basis, but most often one
tends to focus on the building s function and the way it looks. Architecture is more than mere
buildings that serve its function to meet our own human needs; it has a lot more to offer. Architecture
matters because it can become a symbol that represents something that has a deeper meaning as well
as an ultimate representation of a culture. Architecture is a powerful icon because it symbolizes
experience that we as a community share, which is far beyond what other forms art can offer.
Ernst Cassirer is a German philosopher who believes in the notion that man feel the need to provide
meaning to given input . He believes that it has always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
ROM to me also symbolize urbanization and our current civilization as a whole. It first opened to the
public on March 19, 1914 originally having five different museums, which includes the Royal Ontario
Museum for Archeology, Paleontology, Mineralogy, Zoology, and Geology. The original building was
created using yellow bricks and it was designed by Toronto based architects Darling and Pearson and
it was incorporated with various architectural motifs from different cultures. In 2011, ROM announced
their expansion plan called Renaissance ROM, a plan to transform the museum, which was designed
by Daniel Libeskind. The project received $60 million of budget in total and it opened on the year of
2007. To me the old yellow brick building represent the old civilization and the new additional
building known as the Crystal represent the current civilization. It represents how we advanced as a
society in terms of scientific and technological innovations. The materials between the two buildings
are very different, which again highlights the progression of our civilization over time with the
evolution in technology and architecture. Architecture matters because they often symbolize
something that goes beyond being just a mere object. They symbolize something that has a deeper
meaning, something that is special to us. They often covey emotions

The Denver Basin Aquifer Framework
Denver Basin Aquifer
The Denver Basin aquifer framework is a noteworthy wellspring of water for South Metro Denver.
The system extends from Colorado Springs in the south to Greeley in the north, from the foothills
close to Golden in the west, toward the eastern fields close to Limon, is a surface locale of around
6,700 square miles. It joins four aquifers: the Dawson, Denver, Arapahoe, and Laramie Fox Hills.
Each aquifer has different water quality, profundities, and water availability (CFWE, 2002).
Describe the source of the groundwater, that is, where is the rainfall and snowmelt that feeds the
aquifer coming from, and what are the best estimates of the travel time from the source to the point of
withdrawal.
The Denver Basin has a semi arid atmosphere in which potential yearly evaporation is around five
times greater than yearly precipitation. Most of the precipitation that falls on the land surface either
runs off in streams, is evaporated from the surface of the soil, or is consumed by vegetation. Although
this may be the case, a little part of the precipitation more often than not diffuses downwards and
recharges the groundwater system. In the Denver Basin, a lot of the recharge happens in the highland
areas between stream channels in the higher southern part of the basin. Precipitation is more
prominent here, and the porous soils derived from the Dawson Arkose allow deep permeation.
Recharge here can happen on a local and a regional scale. Locally, water moves

Dysfunctionality In Arthur Miller s Death Of A Salesman
The effects of Dysfunctionality
Any family can be dysfunctional. Whether it be by the lack of communication, faith, or even the
wrong mindset of others. Arthur Miller captures that perfectly in Death of a Salesman as he puts Willy
Loman the main protagonist in some sketchy situations. The amount of stress that Miller puts on Willy
s back is almost unbearable for a person. His kids are back and living with him, his job has gone down
the drain and on top of that he is going slightly crazy. Willy talks to himself, and with the help and
support of his wife we soon begin to realize that Willy and his wife Linda are co dependent. The
Loman family can be classified as a co dependant and even as a dysfunctional family.
Willy may be losing his mind with talking to himself and basically living in his own realistic
flashbacks, but even as his mind deteriorates piece by piece his wife will continue to help him and
love him. As Willy describes his experience of him not remembering how he was driving and telling
about how he kept swerving off the road Linda attempts to comfort him and tells him Oh. Maybe it
was the steering again (Miller, 3). This is an example of the codependency that Linda gives to ... Show

Propaganda In Nazi Germany
During the Holocaust, various forms of propaganda were infused into everyday aspects of life for the
German citizens. The Nazi Party used many of these forms to target the many differing citizens of
Germany to believe in the Nazi ideology. These forms of propaganda included books, films,
newspapers, rallies, radio broadcastings, etc. All of these forms of propaganda were either created or
altered by the Nazi Party for the sole purpose of manipulating the ordinary German citizens into
hating their Jewish friends, neighbors, and colleagues. Almost every aspect of life was placed under
the control and influence of the Nazi Party in Germany for all of its citizens. Instead of having normal
schooling as they did before Hitler came to power, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Films were made to spread the Nazi ideology across Germany to manipulate the citizens as did
newspapers. In Germany, the cartoons in the newspapers portrayed the Jewish people with antisemitic
caricatures. Rallies held by the Nazi Party in the Zeppelinfeld were propaganda events used to arouse
enthusiasm and show off the power of National Socialism. All of these forms of propaganda worked
together to manipulate an entire nation into supporting acts of genocide. The Nazis were not the only
people committing acts of genocide against the Jewish people. Ordinary German citizens were
manipulated into supporting the crimes committed against the Jewish people with propaganda. These
citizens did not have a lot of options, so they either actively participated, supported from the sidelines,
resisted the Nazi Party silently, or risked their lives to help the Jewish people in

Descriptive Essay On Rain Forest
It was two years ago, in Australia. My parents, my sisters and I were visiting the country in camping
car, and we had decided to go on an excursion in a rainforest. The weather was enjoyable, there were a
couple of clouds in the sky, just enough to make the heat bearable. We had walked in many other
forests, but only in other countries. Me and my sisters were very excited to walk through our first
Australian rainforest. If we had known what was awaiting us there we would have certainly not
chosen to go at all. That day would teach us to never walk in an Australian rain forest unless you are
sure, and absolutely certain about the weather.
We were walking, exploring the forest. The vegetation was dense. And the sun hardly came through

Dad, she said in a scared voice what is this, it won t come off me! . As the words came out of her
mouth, we all realized what it was. It was a leech. Now everything didn t seem so funny at all.
Understanding that my little sister screamed Mom! I have some on my leg! We were all panicking, we
did not know how to get them off. My mother then had a really great idea :
I know what to do she stated.
What asked my two sisters in unison.
I know that salt repels leeches, and I also know there is salt in the mosquito repellent, so we should try
and spray the repellent on the leeches and see if that works. She answered.
Do it on me first! Screamed my two sisters, eager to get these disgusting blood suckers off their skin.
After testing the repellent on a leech on my father s leg, the worm detached from our skin in a
spasmodic movement of what looked like pain. And so, quickly and effectively we started to get rid of
the leeches. Everyone had some on their skin, except me. I was glad I had taken what I thought had
been a piece of dirt off my leg, because there was no doubt now, that it was a leech.
Once we were sure that all of them were gone, we started thinking about how these worms got into
our clothes when we were walking, and instantly we knew: it was the rain. The leeches must have
been on branches and trees, and feeling our presence, have let themselves drop on us alongside the
drops of water. That thought in mind we went back to the camping car

How long are your intestines?
Have you ever thought about your intestines? How long are your intestines? What are their functions?
Intestines are the muscular tubes extending from the stomach to the anus. These are the parts of
digestive system specialized for digestion and absorption of the food. Intestines are divided into two
basic types, small and large intestines.
Part 1: How Long Are Your Intestines?
When food is taken, it goes through the digestive system so that the body can absorb nutrients from

Military Advantage
Tuition Assistance in the Military: Is it Worth it? College nowadays is expensive. Too expensive for
any student to be able to pay without applying for countless scholarships, hoping they can win just
enough to push themselves through, or taking out incredibly large loans and going into debt to further
their education. However, there is a more reliable, more financially stable option. Students struggling
with paying for college should join the military. Although the military is a potentially dangerous and
life changing option, it is one of the better ways to get yourself through college, and set yourself up for
future job opportunities. As well as coverage of most college expenses, the military provides a
multitude of other benefits, including experience that is easily utilized in the civilian world. Although
there is danger associated with joining the military, the benefits far outweigh the costs. Especially with
the many benefits and privileges that come along with it. The main reason many people would join the
military for is the coverage of college expenses. According to College Costs: FAQ, the average cost of
college tuition over 4 years can range anywhere from $9.4k to $32.4k. Most college students, if
working, work a minimum wage job due to lack of education for a higher paying job. In Oregon, the
minimum wage is approximately $9.75 per hour. A student in Oregon would have to work a minimum
of 3,857 hours over four years, without spending any of that money earned

The Effects Of Electronic Usage On Perceived And Actual...
Effects of Electronic Usage on Perceived and Actual Quality of Sleep
Melanie Poole
Kent State University
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between use of electronic devices during
resting and sleep hours, and quality of sleep as measured by self report and polysomnography. Fifty
participants will be asked to individually spend three consecutive nights in a sleep laboratory, and to
go about their nightly routines while attached to a polysomnograph. Participants will be asked to bring
in personal electronics to use during the study, and they will be provided with wifi and satellite or
cable access. Additionally, they will be asked to bring anything that would make them feel as at home

Also, that the findings of the self report measures of sleep quality will extend to biophysiological
indicators of sleep quality.
Effects of Electronic Usage on Quality of Sleep
Sleep is a necessity of every living person. Adequate sleep ensures an individual s ability to function
throughout the following day, both physically and mentally, and it is an essential contributing factor to
the overall health of a person (National Sleep Foundation, 2014). Consistent inadequate sleep and
what predicts it is a major concern that is often addressed by physicians and sleep specialists. Of
particular interest in this increasingly techno centric world are the effects that regular use of personal
electronic devices might have on the odds of obtaining sufficient sleep. A new study (Vallance,
Buman, Stevinson, Lynch, 2015) found that individuals with the most screen time had significantly
higher odds of reporting sleep problems to their doctors, as well as having trouble falling asleep,
waking during the night, and having trouble going back to sleep. The purpose of this proposal is to
explore whether or not the effect of technology on perceived sleep disturbances and sleep quality is
supported by objective physiological indicators. Technology is undoubtedly becoming an increasingly
integral part of everyday modern life. From morning until night, individuals are constantly plugged in
via televisions, phones, computers,

Persuasive Essay On Attending High School
The next chapter in many people s lives is moving away from their hometown and attending college.
What people don t yet understand is the major differences between college and high school. Another
idea that is not thought of, are they prepared to handle the difficulties and challenges that go forth in
earning their desired degree? Attending college is only for people who are willing to take on this
challenge.
In high school, it is illegal to be truant and classroom attendance is required to graduate so, the only
responsibility that a student has is to arrive at school on time. Since attendance is required, it is easy to
get into a routine that stays constant over four years. All that is needed is to show up to the first class
of the day and all classes are set up for the rest of the day. In class, teachers usually hand out
assignments regularly and tell their students the due dates of each assignment. Some teachers even go
ahead and have any assignments that are due posted in their classroom to remind students every day.
The only responsibility that the high school student has is to look at the white board and remind
themselves that they might have an assignment to do that night at home. Once they go home after a
day at school, students will have the help of their parents or guardians to ask if they have homework
that night. Parents are an enormous help when it comes to high school. Students have the
responsibility from their parents to help them be reminded constantly of upcoming events and due
dates.
The work load that also comes from high school is, what most would call, minimal compared to a
college setting. Classes in high school are a year long term and each section of each course is drawn
out. For example, a class could take two weeks to complete one chapter. This allows teachers to
explain the material in detail and give out worksheets that contain small portions of one chapter. Most
of these worksheets can be completed in class allowing students to not have any work outside of the
class room. What this creates is a workload that is very simple to maintain and allow students to worry
less about working at home.
In most college classrooms, the instructor does not take attendance. Their mindset is that

Chinese Farmers Discovered The Terracotta Warrior
In 1974, local Chinese farmers discovered the Terracotta Warrior life sized clay sculptures. The
weather was dry in 1974, and the grain was dying in the fields of Lintong County, Shaanxi Province,
near Xian, China and some local farmers were trying to establish a new water well by digging at a low
point in the terrain. Whilst digging they encountered the first evidence of the Terracotta Warriors. One
of the local farmers Yang Zhifa quoted on the discovery At first the digging went well. The second day
we hit hard red earth. The third day, my hoe dug out the neck of a terracotta statue without a head, but
the opening at the bottom was about size of a bowl, . It wasn t until months later when archaeologists
were informed, arrived and realized that the farmers had stumbled upon an astonishing find in the
form of a large scale Terracotta Warriors dig. They dated the construction around 246 206 BC during
the Qin Dynasty. It was during the reign of the first Emperor of a unified Imperial China Qin Shi
Huang Di. According to Ancient Chinese linguist the words Shi Huang translate as First Emperor so
this individual was also known as the first Emperor of the Qin Dynasty. Chinese civilization has its
origins in Shaanxi and Henan Provinces where the Huang He, or Yellow River, winds its way through
its fertile valleys with the old Qin capital city Xian Yang just 40km East of discovery site. Based on
these historical and geographical evidences the Terracotta Warriors could now

Fate In The Monkey s Paw, By William W. Jacobs
Step on a spider, and the consequences may be the millennia of mosquitos yet to come. Wish to be the
fastest runner, yet instead, everyone walks at a snail s pace. Tampering with fate will leave people
panicking in the aftermath of its unforeseeable outcome. In The Monkey s Paw , by William W.
Jacobs, fate is stronger than human will. The people live a normal life until they obtain the Monkey s
Paw. Subsequently, they quickly learn to dread the result of reshaping fate. The unimaginable power
fate has over human will is best left untouched, because the consequences are unanticipated, fate tries
to balance changes from human will, and people face remorse trying to alter their fate.
Although free will is able to change the future, fate leads to unexpected results that show people
should not bother to alter it.The outcome is not usually what one anticipates for. For example, when
Mr. white wishes for money upon the monkey s paw he does not anticipate for its consequences.
Likewise, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People remain calm when events happen naturally, but in contrast, when they manipulate fate, they
worry of all the dangerous possibilities that fate can hold. For example, earlier in the story, the family
remains calm as the wind bangs the door. However, after wishing to revive Herbert, the door bangs
again, and Mr. White [stands] like a statue (Jacobs 294). Pain is exaggerated also when anticipating
the results of fate. The death of Herbert is an example because they have the power to revive and kill
him. Their days become long and empty while waiting for their wish to revive him to become
true(Jacobs 222). Above all, if Herbert s death was natural, their reaction would have been different;
the cause of their sorrow is due to the trying to manipulate the unforeseeable fate. As a result, disarray
occurs when attempting to predict what fate holds, so it is better to avoid changing fate in the first

The Uncertainty Of Illness Theory
Introduction Mishel s Uncertainty in Illness Theory is a mid range theory, created using a bi
directional process where the theory informed and was informed by research. The theory looks at how
uncertainty is capable of influencing a patient s ability to become accustomed to their sickness and the
outcome of it. People faced with uncertainty may not know what the outcome of their illness will be or
they may be living with the possibility that their illness will come back. Either way, the theory
examines how people progress and change while dealing with uncertainty. Summary of Theory
Uncertainty as it pertains to illness, is defined as the inability to determine the meaning of illness
related events, occurring when the decision maker is unable to assign definite value to objects or
events, or is unable to predict outcomes accurately (Alligood, 2014). The uncertainty in illness theory
examines how people adapt when they are faced with the uncertainty of illness. The theory considers
patients facing an illness and how the uncertainty they are facing can cognitively be negative or
positive. Depending on the patient s perspective of the situation is the way the patient will cope and
adapt. A patient with an illness, such as cancer, can be highly stressed by the uncertainty of the events
and treatment to take place, which could lead to anxiety, depression, and hopelessness. On the other
hand, a patient who has received a poor prognosis may find hope in the uncertainty, the

The Issue Of Legalizing Gambling
INTRODUCTION
Casinos are all throughout the country, but are they a positive influence for our society? Our
economy? There are people on all sides of this issue; some people have difficulty determining the
reasons behind legalizing gambling in the first place. In a panel data analysis done by Doug Walker
and John Jackson, gambling is legalized to offer other opportunities for states to increase revenue
(Walker and Jackson 1). This explains why legalizing gambling is important to state governments,
saying states need different revenue options and that gambling would help with an increase in revenue
for the states.
Other people on this issue wonder if casinos can be consistently relied upon for state revenue.
According to Forbes, the casino industry in Las Vegas has been decreasing because of the recession
from 2007 2009. Outside of the United States, the industry has increased over the past few years
(Forbes). This indicates that the casino business isn t as big as it was before the recession. This has big
implications on state revenues and budgeting. Global Gaming Business Magazine is along those lines,
saying two casinos in Atlantic City are empty; not enough supply of casinos for the demand (Global
Gaming Business Magazine). The recession has made significant impacts on the industry and the
industry can t keep up. And states need to be aware of these issues so they don t make the same
mistakes as Atlantic City. While they increased economic development, Atlantic City did

The Power Of The National Territory
Taking in account Max Weber definition of a successful state, a failed state can be defined as a state
fully incapable of exercising power within its boundaries, its failure to provide basic goods to its
citizens, such as political and social needs, and incapable of exercising the monopoly of the legitimate
use of physical force. Although in a weak states, like Colombia, Indonesia, Thailand, the state is still
able to provide some political goods to its citizens and exercise power in much of the national
territory, in a failed state this is not the case. The failed state is indeed unable to provide basic and
economic needs to its citizens. The nature of the failed state varies across geographical regions,
colonial history, and political circumstances. However, they share some economic and political
features. Human insecurity pervades in every aspects of a failed state, from social tensions to civil
wars, from geography to corruption and external actors, whose presence in many cases proceeds to
worsen situations. The vast majority of failed states lack in security and violate most of the human
rights of their citizens while at the same time fail to ensure basic social services. Moreover, failed
states are characterized by huge inequalities. The gap between the rich and the poor is extremely high,
where just a small percentage lives wealthy, while the vast majority of the population starves
everyday. Elite models deliver financial rewards only to favourite families, clans

Wells Fargo Banking System
The information system I chose for my essay is the Wells Fargo online banking system. The purpose
of the system is to be able complete almost any task online that can be done at a physical branch.
Customers with a Wells Fargo online account can view their account balances, bank credit card
balances, transfer funds, pay bills, make additional principal payments on their mortgage and sign up
for additional services. Customers who use the mobile app in conjunction with their online account
also have the ability to deposit checks by taking a photo of the check and uploading it via the mobile

by a Statements Documents button where the PDF statements and other documents are uploaded in

A Midsummer Night s Dream Love Essay
Throughout history, the nature of love has been explored through the use of plays, art, literature, etc.
In one of history s most famous examples, A Midsummer Night s Dream, four young lovers are seen
battling the complications that surround love. In William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream
love is portrayed as something erratic and unpredictable that is an affliction of the eyes as shown by
the use of the love potion and the focus on physical beauty. However, the play is set up in a way that
makes the audience feel sympathetic towards the character s romantic endeavors.
One of the major themes explored by Shakespeare in this play is the fickleness of love. This
unpredictability is shown through the use of a love potion that is applied ... Show more content on

To start off the play, sympathy is generated for Lysander and Hermia when they are forbidden to get
married. After Hermia s father complains to Theseus about the love between the young couple,
Theseus says that Hermia s options are, Either to die the death or to abjure /Forever the society of
men. (1.1) To the audience, both of these options seem outlandish and overly severe, thus generating
sympathy towards Hermia s cause. This sympathy is directed towards her desire to marry the one she
loves, thus it is directed towards the pursuit of love. Characters within the play also demonstrate
compassion towards love. After seeing Helena scorned by Demetrius, Oberon feels sympathetic
towards her. As a result of this he says to Puck, A sweet Athenian lady is in love /With a disdainful
youth. Anoint his eyes. (2.1) Again, Shakespeare shows how love generates sympathy, even among the
characters within the play. The irony here is that Oberon s sympathy towards love is also what leads to
the events that demonstrate the fickleness of love, as it results in the use of the love

Student Republican Party Platform Essay
Preamble
The dawn of a new millennium is upon us and we, the Republican Party, are fully prepared to meet the
challenges that await us. This past century, due to the resilience and determination of the American
people, our country has experienced more growth and prosperity than any other nation in recorded
history. However, dark challenges threaten the moral fiber of this great nation. The past eight years,
under Clinton s leadership, the national government has lacked the fortitude to effectively battle the
dangerously extremist trends that have gradually forced their way into the American culture. In order
for America to be the great nation it once was, the Republican Party must be in power.
The Republican Party has a vision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this reduction we have rekindled the belief in the American dream. Economic prosperity and
sound moral and family values have begun to be reinstated in all arenas of American life.
We believe there should be less government intrusion in the lives of Americans because only the
American people can decide what is best for them. We stand for a rollback of federal government
paternalism and intervention and instead call for an increased roll of the individual and a revitalization
of the American tradition of entrepreneurial innovation. The rise of the Republican Party to national
prominence will allow us to realize these goals and restore America to its former glory.
Federal Minimum Wage
We the Republican Party support the American workforce knowing that the future of the country rests
on a strong economy. To insure economic prosperity it is imperative that states have the freedom to act
accordingly to its economy. We as Americans, as workers, and as taxpayers should seek to quiet the
anxiety over labor and wages. We cannot be held to a standard that blankets the whole nation when it
is evident that each state is different. States must be allowed to evaluate the conditions of their
economy, unemployment, growth and other relative demographics and then should have the ability to
set the minimum wage.
The Republican Party strongly believes that government

The Victims Of The Holocaust
Over the past few years, several deadly genocides have occurred. However, one of the most infamous
genocides to occur was the Holocaust. The Holocaust was the massive destruction of European Jewry
during World War II, when millions were systematically persecuted and exterminated solely because
of their social, cultural, ethnic, or religious characteristics (Barel, Van Ijzendoorn, Sagi Schwartz,
Bakermans Kranenburg). Contrary to popular belief, Jews were not the only group targeted in the
Holocaust, as five million more lives were taken in groups other than the Jews. Three other groups
targeted during his deadly event were the homosexuals, the mentally and physically disabled, and the
ethnic minorities, whose death toll equaled 2,285,000, a combined total that clearly showed how
determined the Nazis were in destroying their targeted victims in the Holocaust.. The homosexuals
were a major group targeted in the Holocaust, and between 5,000 and 15,000 members were targeted (
Five Million Forgotten Holocaust s Non Jewish Victims ). The main reason the homosexuals were
targeted was because the Nazis believed that male homosexuals were weak, effeminate men who
could not fight for the German nation. They saw homosexuals as unlikely to produce children and
increase the German birthrate ( Persecution of Homosexuals in the Third Reich ). According to the
quote, the homosexuals wouldn t produce offspring thus making them unqualified for being apart of
the Germans. Like all

What Is Lean Management And The Practical Concepts Within It
Introduction
The purpose of the assignment is to demonstrate an understanding of lean management and the
practical concepts within it. Lean management is an approach used to strategize development planning
and improving targets, while delivering value to customers. Although company leaders may be
enthused and conversant frequently they lack the ability to empower people to respond effectively to
customer needs and competitive threats. Implementing a lean management system it shows how to
support a company s transformation by linking strategic management to companywide activities that
furthers the corporate vision. Lean management is about operating the most efficient and effective
organisation possible with least cost and zero waste (Thomas L. Jackson, 1996). In order to analyse
this in a more in depth this assignment will examine Subway s operational management. Operation
management is the activity of managing the resources which create and deliver the product and
services.
1. About Subway Subway is one of the largest fast food restaurants in the world that mainly sells
sandwiches and salads. It is one of the fastest growing franchises with 44,447 outlets in 111 countries.
Despite the difference in sizes and location of each individual store, Subway demonstrates to have
simple operations means customers can have the same sandwich and experience in the independent of
geographical location. Subway s brand target market is adults between the ages of 16 and 39.

The Congential Vericella Syndrome (CVS) Essay
In most cases, a varicella zoster infection will lead to a case of chicken pox in children and in adults
who are susceptible to the disease and not vaccinated but if a woman is infected during the early
stages of pregnancy the fetus could be born with birth defects. Congenital Varicella Syndrome (CVS)
is a rare but serious disease that affects about 2% of pregnancies exposed to the virus in the first
trimester. The disease leads to low birth weight, skin and/or extremity abnormalities, and in very
extreme cases defects of the brain, eyes, or other organs. The range of symptoms depends on what
stage of fetal development the mother becomes infected. The first 20 weeks of gestation are crucial for

the first trimester the fetal immune system is underdeveloped and unable to protect the fetus from
microorganisms passed through the cord blood. When the varicella virus enters the blood supply of a

developing spinal cord. The compromised developing nervous tissue can lead to a reduced number of
functional nerves or complete denervation of areas of tissue on the babies body, most affected are the

Nihilism In Yevgeny Vasilievich Bazarov s Fathers And Sons
In the novel, Fathers and Sons , the character Yevgeny Vasilievich Bazarov is perceived to be a strong
headed, and intelligent Nihilist who is not afraid to express his beliefs on anyone that dares to question
and challenge him about it. He is first introduced in the story by Arkady as a great friend and gives a
nice wrap in the first few chapters of the story; giving his father and himself the title of a doctor, who
had a special capacity for winning the confidence of lower class people and indeed treated them
casually (15). But the story changes him quite a bit when they reveal what he is, Nihilist, who
recognizes, nor respects nothing and regards everything from (a) critical point of view (17). Due to
this given trait of nihilism, and the way he carries his opinions out to others, I believe the novel plays
more against Bazarov rather than for him. Ever since the introduction of him being a Nihilist, Bazarov
has been recognized in the story as rude, judgemental, aggressive and hypocritical towards the
majority of the characters in the book. His beliefs have also caused him to break bonds, and turned a
friendship sour with Arkady. An example of this bond breaking moment could be his moments with
Pavel Petrovitch Kirsanov: despite not even having a type of friendly relationship or any to begin
with, Bazarov just creates tension between him and Pavel, as he demonstrates his views to Pavel and
Nikolai. Throughout the Bazarov s discusses in chapter 6, he

EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT
SWOT is considered a widely used tool to assist an organisation understand their business activity,
both internally and externally. The intent is to not only formulate strategies that support the mission of
the organisation but to avoid weaknesses, neutralise the threats and exploit opportunities and
strengths. (Davidson et al 2009. P212). SWOT provides the guidelines for critically assessing what
you re doing right, what you re doing wrong, who or what can take you down, and what you can do to
get and stay ahead of the pack.
The internal factors relate to the organisation s strengths and weaknesses, i.e. competency, and
competitive viability. An internal analysis using the data generated by SWOT will assist in the
development of planning objectives to grow and sustain a business. An analysis of the strength and
competency would include technology and equipment to accomplish work, which would then support
the brand identity, expertise, and resources of the business. The weaknesses are the opposite poor
technology, lack of expertise or deficient in assets. Once these deficiencies are revealed, the

The most powerful computers in the technology world are the Supercomputers. Hence, as the word

also huge in size. You need a big room to fit in a supercomputer, and a strong cooling system to avoid
getting a supercomputer to get overheated. They usually have more than one CPU s to generate high
level data processing speed, and they need to have a large storage as well. The unit system that are
used to measure the computing performance of the supercomputer are FLOPS (Floating point
Operation Per Second). The first ever supercomputer was made during the time of Second World War
named Colossus . It was made by The Great Britain, specially to crack the coded messages of
Germans. Colossus could read up to 5000 characters in a second. Colossus was the start of a
revolution in supercomputing. Since 1944, more enhanced and powerful supercomputers were
introduced for example MIT Whirlwind by MIT in 1950. Cray 1 designed by Seymour Cray in 1975.
Seymour Cray was called the Father of Supercomputer . He founded Cray Research in 1972, which

Our period five class was given the challenge of which group could make the strongest electromagnet

should, use thick copper wire with a length of two meters, an iron nail, four batteries and the
temperature will be colder than room temperature. Based on the data we collected in our trials, we
believe the materials we use will create the strongest electromagnet. We first propose using thick
copper as the material we chose for wire type. We propose using thick copper because, in the trials,
the electromagnet with string wire could only hold 0 filings, the electromagnet with aluminum
material could hold 31 filings and the electromagnet with a copper wire could hold 83 pieces of filing.

We did not get to test the material for the ferromagnet, but according to an article written by
www.irm.umn.edu, However, the versatility of iron carbon alloys cannot be matched in any other
material. We also propose to use two meters of thick copper rather than one meter. The more material
you have the more coils you will have around the ferromagnet. When we tested the number of coils
around a ferromagnet, we found that no coils held 0 filings, fifty coils held 83 filings but 100 coils
could hold 167 filings. Therefore the more wire you have, the more times you can coil the
ferromagnet, which can make the strongest electromagnet. Next, we propose to use four batteries as
our power source rather than using three, two, or one battery. When we tested the number of batteries,
we found that one battery held 14 paper clips, two batteries held 19 paper clips, but 3 batteries could
hold 24 paper clips. Although we did not test using four batteries, we could predict by using
proportions that 4 batteries could hold about 32 paperclips. The pattern shows that more batteries

cuisine. A sauce is defined as a liquid or semi solid food served on or in the process of preparing other
foods. Sauces are created to accompany other foods and make them look, smell, and taste better. They
are easily digested and nutritionally beneficial. Sauces are not served by themselves; they add flavor,
moisture, aromas, and visual appeals to a finished dish. Today there are many different compound or

known as white sauce. It is a smooth, white sauce made from a white roux made with flour, butter and
boiled milk. It is usually found served with white meats, eggs, and vegetables. It forms the basis of
many other sauces. For example cheese, cream sauce, Mornay, nantua, and Soubise are all made from
BĂ©chamel. BĂ©chamel sauce is the easiest mother sauce to prepare.
A properly constructed BĂ©chamel is creamy, and smooth with no lumps or graininess. You must use a
stainless steel pan to cook in, if an aluminum pan is used it can discolor the white sauce to a murky
grey. The flavor of the onion and clove used to season the sauce should be noticeable, but not strong
enough to overwhelm the milk base. In similarity the sauce should not taste like the roux. BĂ©chamel
should have a sheen white color, and should be thick enough to coat the foods lightly in on the dish.

Relationship Rules And Family Rules
Relationship Rules Theory
Interpersonal relationships are an essential part of everyone s life, like many other aspects of life.
Relationships are also bound by rules in order for these to succeed. However these rules vary
depending on the type of relationship a person has. Relationship rules theory is oriented to make
several aspects of relationships more clear. These rules help identify behaviors that can be either
destructive or successful in a relationship. Additionally, Relationship Rules help to single out more
specific reasons as why relationships end and what can be a solution to repair them. There are four
different types of relationship rules and those are friendship rules, romantic rules, family rules and
workplace rules. Each of these relationship rules has different functions and these rules cannot be
broken in order for a relationship to stay healthy.
Friendship Rules Friendship is a word that envelops powerful meanings that everyone should not take
for granted. Those meanings can be trust on others, love, support, care for others, compassion, and/or
loyalty. People give those meanings different levels depending on the type of friends they have and
how worth it those friends are. It is true that friends can be considered part of our own family and they
have to be loved and respected as such. Good friends are people that can be trustworthy and
understand the meaning of the word friendship.

Effects Of War In America
Costs of War in America
Has there ever been a time where a nation is unaffected after a war they were a part of? It is very
unlikely every nation that takes part in a war is effected but may not show it. America is not immune
to these effects but no one really wants to address them or resolve them. And because of that wars
around the world have affected service members, their families and the society in America in many
ways; ignorance of these effects often results in the affected from getting the help they need. The

The most well known of these effects are the economic impacts of wars. During periods of major war,
such as the World Wars, a large number of jobs open up in order to help the war effort. But once the
war is over or has slowed to a minor conflict those jobs are no longer needed and the people working
them are laid off. A solution to this problem is instead of just laying off the workers attempt help them
in transferring to a new job. Another effect is national paranoia and extreme patriotism which is
usually caused by some stories covered on the news. These stories are most likely about a terrorist
attack or news about enemy movements. The solution could be to just tell about the event instead of
over glorifying it. Another problem is that wars help to taint Americans view of other nations and
religions. For example terrorism has put in the heads of a majority of Americans that all Muslims are
terrorists which is not true most Muslims do not condone of the actions of Muslim extremists. A
possible solution is to educate people on the difference between extremists and regular followers of a
faith. Another problem is the love hate relation with the military which became a major occurrence
during the Vietnam War where soldiers returning home would be called baby killers and treated with
disrespect. Most soldiers would refuse to wear their uniforms on their way back home to avoid the
ridicule. The people mainly did this because parts of the Vietnam War were televised and one of the
stories showed soldiers burning down a village but gave no context as to why. Another reason why
there is a love hate relation with the military is because the people do not know what a job in the
military entails. A way to resolve this could be to show more of soldiers helping people and not put the
focus on what the military has done wrong. Then there is the problem of a large amount of

the three protagonists. It mentions that the poem depicts how de France confronts her readers with a

Martin Luther King s Model Of Extremism
Martin Luther King, Jr. was a unique and great person in history. He had so much faith and
determination for what he was doing and tried very hard to do it the right way. When he first started
for equality, there were many that disagreed. They thought he was going too quickly or doing it the
wrong way. They began calling him an extremist. Some thought it was an act of civil disobedience.
But as William Scheuerman put it, it is simply a matter of recognizing that civil disobedience is best
understood primarily as a conscientious moral challenge to the law (Scheuerman 427). King asked
them one simple question about a list of people and what they were trying to accomplish. He put
himself in that list as well. After all, he considered himself to be on that list since they all were
extremists for different things. King s extremism might have twisted people the wrong way, but with
the circumstances surrounding him, he uses the biblical character of Jesus to support his key points to

Yet the debate of what civil disobedience contains still rages on. The ongoing debate about
punishment and civil disobedience, in particular, has identified some tough questions. Blame for the
earlier model s perceived limitations too often gets placed at its legal doorsteps (Scheuerman 441).
There is still civil disobedience and it seems there is not a consensus on what type of punishment there
should be for civilians who pose disobedience to the public. King wanted everything to be peaceful
and not to distract people from going crazy and breaking the law. Some thought otherwise. The efforts
that King made towards justice put him at odds with fellow Christians and authorities. He willingly
broke laws based on his complementary Christ centered views of resistance (Williams 191). King had

Prayer In Schools
Prayer is an important aspect of religion. Many religions incorporate prayer as a form of worship.
Many people around the world worship by praying daily. People feel the need to worship through their
religion by the use of prayer every day. Prayer in public places such as schools should be allowed for a
variety of reasons. First off, school prayer is defined as a state sanctioned or mandatory prayer by
students in public schools (Phillips page 1). Based on this definition, it is logical that mandated prayer
in schools can be considered school prayer. In modern society, in the United States of America,
mandated prayer in schools is prohibited (Phillips page 1). Ever since 1962, school prayer is not

prohibition should be undone. The first reason that prayer should be allowed in schools is that prayer

speech, poetry, and song (Lipka page 1). Prayer is another way that people show expression. Students
use prayer to express themselves and many students do it in unique ways. Schools allow students to
express themselves in many different ways including reciting poetry, memorizing a speech, and
playing a musical instrument (Lipka page 1). So, why can t students express themselves through
prayer? Also, prayer gives students additional opportunities to convey there religious beliefs. For
example, if a student uses prayer in a meaningful way, it can benefit other aspects of school (Lipka
page 1). Prayer can be a very important part of a student s life. Prayer gives students the opportunity to

The Managed Health Plan
Managed health plans depend on the provider network which includes physicians, hospitals, health
systems, ancillary and therapeutic staff. The fundamental concept of the managed health plan is
service areas. They are the geographical areas wherein the plan provides access to primary and
specialty care, hospital care and other health services (Kongstevedt, 2013, p. 58). As a matter of fact,
Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) is a type of a health plan, which can be difficult to develop
and maintain in certain geographical regions, deficient of primary care and specialty care providers.
Due to insufficient availability of providers, patients are forced to wait a longer period for their
appointments. Also, the quality of care can be compromised,

OVERVIEW OF THE BUSINESS
The objective of the business is to produce a reality game show that goes by the title of QUICKWITT.

on one minute mind games that would judge the participants level of aptitude.
The participants with the best score would be declared as the winners and would also be awarded with
prices and gift vouches. Secondly, the best participants chosen from each university would compete in

MARKET ANALYSIS
Prime objective of producing this show successfully is to stay fully aware of the marketing trends and
the regular information about the industry and its history. It is pivotal to understand and analyze the
industrial impact in the particular industry as the show is related to entertainment industry. Around 20
different game shows were analyzed to determine the fate of ours, as the above mentioned game
shows were similar in sketch. Two of popular programs were SPRITE FUNDA and LIVING ON THE
EDGE, these shows have successfully targeted the youth but they somewhat failed to capitalize the
market in the growth terms. We believe that our execution would go as planned and we can
successfully fill the vacuum in the industry.
TARGET MARKET:
QUICKWITT will be targeting the youth industry by focusing on colleges and universities in the
initial time periods. The age would fall between 16 and 28 years old. In our initial stage we would be
targeting the youth from Lahore, the data collected by our team suggests that we would have to shuffle
between 28,000 individuals. However, we would be setting up arrangements for 3 to 400 students as
audience from the participating institution. The target market of Lahore is flexible and elastic, as it
comprises the majority of youth population of the country.

Persuasive Speech On Sexual Assault On College Campuses
Ileana Quintero
CST 110 13
I. Attention Step
Being sexually assaulted is one of the worst things that can happen to anyone during their lifetime.
Thesis/Preview: Sexual assault is a major problem in the United States and, specifically, on college
campuses. While no one thing will be able to solve this issue, I believe RAINN is an effective charity
that is working well to combat sexual assault and raise awareness.
II. Need
1. The problem: Sexual assault has become one of the forefront issues of our day. There has been an
increasing rate of sexual assaults in our society and specifically on college campuses.
2. Here s why this problem is really a problem: According to the national sexual violence resource
center, one in 5 women will be sexually assaulted at some point in their lives. The cost of rape costs
more than any other crime, even drunk driving; so this is one of the most common crimes in the USA.
The national sexual violence resource center also reports that it costs more annually than any other
crime, including drunk driving. Rape comes out to $127 billion while murder only comes out to $71
billion, and drunk driving $61 billion.
3. Here s how this problem impacts your life, audience: Sexual assault happens very often on
campuses. It can happen to anyone sitting in this room with me here today. 1 in 4 women experience
sexual assault while they are at college. Also, according to the national sexual violence resource
center, one in 5 women will be sexually

Examples Of Classroom Observation
More important than the curriculum is the questions of the methods of teaching and the spirit in which
the teaching is given states Bertrand Russell. Observations prepare future teachers to experience how
classrooms are conducted every day in turn providing them with the resources that will eventually
exist in their own classroom. I witnessed many techniques in the classrooms that will be very
beneficial throughout my teaching career that will aid in motivating, inspiring, and assisting students.
My observation was at Webb City Middle School in Webb City, Missouri with Lori Smith s 6th grade
class. Mrs. Smith utilized several teaching strategies throughout my observation that helped the
students learn, and maintain classroom management. Some of the strategies were: call and response
sayings, collaboration, and checking for understanding. Call and response helped the students to stay
on task when they began to lose interest or began to talk to their neighbor. Some of the call and
responses were: class...class...yes...yes, and oh wonderful class...oh wonderful teacher. Collaboration
supports students in the learning process when they are presented a problem and the students have to
work through it together to come up with an appropriate answer. I loved how she structured the lesson
on ratios and fractions. Mrs. Smith began the lesson by modeling some of the problems on the smart
board with a worksheet. The questions revolved around the examples: Susan has 4

Offshore Drilling Is An Essential Part Of Today s Oil
Offshore drilling has become an essential part of today s oil production and demand for energy. With
the growth of population comes the increasing demand for oil. The oil industry today, is one of the
most used providers of energy. Today in the 20th century the majority of the population in America
has a car and cars needs gas to run. The oil reserves in the earth that are easily accessible via land are
starting to run dry and are becoming harder to find. This is why we have begun to see more and more
offshore oil drills. Although there are benefits of offshore drilling such as profit, lower gas prices, and
becoming less dependent on foreign oil. There are also many drawbacks in which if something were to
go wrong, the mistake would be catastrophic impacting the environment, the nature, and have trickling
effects all around the world.
When people hear the word oil it is commonly interpreted as gas, but the oil that we drill is not what
goes into our cars. The oil that is retrieved from the ground is called crude oil, Oil in its raw natural
form and when it becomes refined it is used in plastics, rubber, and gasoline. Gasoline is a volatile,
flammable liquid obtained from the refinement of petroleum, or crude oil. It was originally discarded
as a byproduct of kerosene production. The first oil well was found and harvested in Titusville,
Pennsylvania by a man named Edwin L. Drake, in 1859. The well was about 70 feet deep (How gas).
It pumped between 20 40 barrels a day

Essay on The Benefits of Naps
What do people think of when they first hear the word nap? Everyday sayings such as snatching a nap,
being caught napping, snoozing, or stealing forty winks are all beneficial daily activities we need to
add to our busy life. If we do, we will be more awake and capable to reach our full potential as an
individual. People don t realize how important a nap can be. Although popular beliefs suggest that
naps are a waste of time, naps actually increase productivity by resting the brain. Nap Basics In order
to obtain the full benefits of the nap, there are certain rules that need to be followed. Following these
guidelines will ensure maximum effectiveness. One condition is that naps should be taken in the early
afternoon. Naps can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You will be able to accomplish more. (qtd. by Griffey 42) An afternoon nap helped him with his many
responsibilities. Leonardo da Vinci used naps so much that he didn t need to sleep at night. Every two
hours, he would take a fifteen minute nap. Many believe this contributed to his seemingly endless
supply of creativity (Griffey 10). Thomas Edison would take one to two naps per day, and once turned
a patron away because he was taking a nap (Griffey 73). Bill Clinton was known for taking naps
whenever he could (Griffey 52). These famous figures dispel the myth that taking naps means ones
lazy. They accomplished so much, yet knew their individual limitations. They gave full effort when
frequent occasions required, but they also refused to run too fast. We can learn from their examples,
and restore the nap to our everyday routine. The Need for Naps In today s busy world, fatigue in the
early afternoon is nearly normal. Many believe that this slump is caused by a heavy lunch. However,
in reality, this occurs because we were meant to have a mid afternoon nap (Jacobs). Those who take
twenty minutes to nap when this slump occurs receive special benefits because sleep during the day is
more restful than extra sleep in the morning (Scott). For everyone this can be a tough to do, especially
when you have something so beneficial. Society would do well to make room for naps. When you
wake up in the morning dreading the day, not wanting to

Comparison Between Incarceration And Recidivism
Incarceration in my opinion is not a deterrent to recidivism. When someone is placed into an
environment that is surrounded by those who have committed crimes ranging from selling marijuana
to first degree murder, there is a bad recipe for change. People adapt to their surrounds and someone
for example that is in prison or jail for a minor offense may room with someone who murdered a
family. The mindset of someone selling marijuana isn t usually as immoral as someone who murdered.
If you placed a person with a little bit of morals left into an environment which none are really to be
found they will slowly lose those morals. The person adapts and beings to feel as though it is normal
to think and feel a specific way. A study done by the Department

Essay On The Seven Years War
The Seven Years War marked a huge turning point in American History, as it changed the outlook of
the British, making them branch away from their salutary neglect, and convinced the Americans for
Independence as the British started changing their way of enforcing taxes and laws. The War changed
the people s opinions in both Europe and America. Americans started to despise the British, while the
British started to resent the colonists because they did not help with paying the war. The changes and
similarities that occurred before and after the war led to a more enforced government, as Salutary
Neglect was forgotten, led to resentment towards each other as the British thought the war debt was
left to be paid by the colonists, and became a turning point as colonists started to struggle against
Britain s imperial balance of power in North America and the continuity of Native Americans fighting
for their land.
Before the Seven Years war Salutary Neglect was a lax rule for British, and it allowed the colonists to
develop their own way of life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, during the War, Britain came to North America to help the Colonists defeat the French
and Indians. After Britain won the war, they were given lots of land from France in the Peace of Paris
including Canada, East of Mississippi River, and Florida. By gaining the land they became one the of
the greatest colonial powers in the world. However, with that much land they did not know what to do
with it, especially with the enormous war debt preventing them from spending more money on
protecting the land. Britain started to realize the war debt needs to be paid. Many of the British
thought Colonists should pay for at least some of it, but the colonists thought it was unfair to tax them.
Britain started adding new taxes, as mentioned before, which led to the colonists resenting England.
The resentment lasted for years until the United States broke free away from

Silence In Engera
Likewise, Post article China pressures Indonesia to silent dissent from Falun Gong followers also has
biased overtones, but unlike Pomfret Higgins presents a more critical tone toward the Chinese
government, as well as Indonesia s for seemingly succumbing to Chinese pressure. From the way the
very article is framed from the point of view of a Falun Gong practitioner, to portraying the conflict as
a matter of Chinese political authoritarianism and coercion, the issue of Erabaru Radio s struggle with
government authorities is meant to depict Erabaru as some sort of ideological underdog that invokes
sympathy from the readers. Although Indonesian authorities claim that Erabaru Radio is illegal due to
its unlicensed status as well as the use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the Chinese government is more likely to use xiejiao, which translates into evil cult in most
publications, or simply cult in other written works. Regardless, even with evil as a descriptor the word
cult invokes negative tones and connotations, bringing to mind the occult and barbaric superstitions.
In addition, it delegitimizes the object in question by establishing a boundary between religion and
cult, and in this instance also serves to further portray Falun Gong negatively by linking it with cults
in foreign countries, thus justifying suppression. [footnote ming 79] Finally, the use of the word cult
by Chinese authorities also has historical significance, as for centuries the term had been used to
categorize religious movements which [the government] want[s] to eradicate, as oftentimesit was
perceived that these movements threatened the fate or legitimacy of the state itself. [footnote Benny 6]
Therefore, it is important to take note of which terms are used by Western media. Higgins by steps the
matter entirely, never addressing the movement as either sect or cult except when quoting the Chinese
embassy; and even then, the words are shrouded by the negative tone he paints in regards to the
embassy and Chinese government. Pomfret addresses Falun Gong as a sect, but also uses cult
unchallenged when quoting the spokesman for the Chinese

The Bush Administration Weaknesses
The President of the United States (U.S.) as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and the head of
Government as well, has an enormous responsibility to maintain the balance between politics and
security matters. In this regard, the role of advisors and counselors, responsible for directing sensitive
security agencies and organizations, is fundamental to the success of the decision making process,
especially when the eyes of the world are expectant of the behavior of such a leading nation. However,
nations and organizations are led by imperfect human beings who in turn translate their strengths and
weaknesses to such structures. The National Security environment is not strange to this phenomenon
and some administrations have had a more prominent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some experts affirm that Obama s National Security policy was not precisely characterized by being
strategic but tactical oriented. Similarly, it is stated that Obama s National Security policy empowered
those who surrounded him simply because they would not refute or challenge any argument. Equally,
the NSC is accused of having been plagued with negative bureaucracy due to large number of
members in the NSC (more than 400). Other weaknesses are based on complaints noting that the NSC
conducted work that should have been done by the operational agencies. These factors affected the
proper functioning of the National Security agencies and their staffs while fostered micro management
whose negative effects are widely known. According to Rothkopf cited in Goldberg (2014), under

  • 2. Multiple Sclerosis Definition There are four different patterns of inflammation in the white matter that is associated with individuals with multiple sclerosis (Lassmann et. al. 2007).The first pattern of inflammation is associated with the demyelination caused by macrophage activity. This pattern of inflammation is characterized by perivascular demyelination with radial expansion and extensive remyelination. The second pattern of inflammation demyelination is associated with antibody and complement activity. The lesions exhibited in this pattern are similar to lesions that occur in the first pattern except that the active demyelination sites demonstrate additional deposition of immunoglobulin (Ig) and activated complement in pattern 2. Immunoglobulins are antibodies that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Individuals suffering from MS face continually worsening symptoms leading to progressing disability and early mortality. There is currently no cure and current treatments have negative impacts on the life of the individual receiving the treatment. The story of the discovery and understanding of the disease spans to almost two centuries of medical research and still there is much to understand. Autoimmune disorders are becoming more common in our society and it is crucial to understand the cause of these diseases and to develop better treatments. In the two centuries of research, the life expectancy of an individual with MS has increased dramatically. Upon diagnosis in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s individuals had an average life span of 10 years but today, due to advances in medical technologies, individuals with MS may live 30 years or more. More research is required to understand how to better treat this disease or prevent the initial autoimmune response from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Formula And Percent Water Of Hydrated Magnesium Sulfate Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to determine both the formula and percent water of hydrated magnesium sulfate. Background: According to George B. Kauffman of Britannica, a hydrate is any compound containing water in the form of H2O molecules, usually, but not always, with a definite content of water by weight. Within this, there are two aspects of the compound; the water of hydration and the anhydrous salt. When a hydrate is heated, the water of hydration leaves the compound as vapor due to the unsteady bonds between the water and salt molecules. The anhydrous salt ends up becoming the only piece that is leftover. From the two, the percent water in a hydrate and the mass of the salt can be determined from the loss of the water of hydration. As a result, the formula of the compound can be found because the masses of the salt and the water can be used to determine the mole ratio, which are both small, whole numbers. Materials: Gas burner Ring stand and ring Triangle made from clay Crucible + lid Crucible tongs Wire pad Balance scale Spatula Hydrated magnesium sulfate Procedure: Assemble the ring and ring stand atop a flat surface. Place the clay triangle in the center of the ring. Lastly, bring the crucible with its lid into the clay triangle, so that it is hanging. Turn on the gas burner and bring it a low heat, only to the point that there is a blue flame. Carefully push the gas burner under the crucible and heat for around two minutes in order to properly ... • 4. Analysis Of The Toronto Eaton Center By Ernst Cassirer Architecture matters, it is omnipresence; we use and encounter it on a daily basis, but most often one tends to focus on the building s function and the way it looks. Architecture is more than mere buildings that serve its function to meet our own human needs; it has a lot more to offer. Architecture matters because it can become a symbol that represents something that has a deeper meaning as well as an ultimate representation of a culture. Architecture is a powerful icon because it symbolizes experience that we as a community share, which is far beyond what other forms art can offer. Ernst Cassirer is a German philosopher who believes in the notion that man feel the need to provide meaning to given input . He believes that it has always ... The original building was created using yellow bricks and it was designed by Toronto based architects Darling and Pearson and it was incorporated with various architectural motifs from different cultures. In 2011, ROM announced their expansion plan called Renaissance ROM, a plan to transform the museum, which was designed by Daniel Libeskind. The project received $60 million of budget in total and it opened on the year of 2007. To me the old yellow brick building represent the old civilization and the new additional building known as the Crystal represent the current civilization. It represents how we advanced as a society in terms of scientific and technological innovations. The materials between the two buildings are very different, which again highlights the progression of our civilization over time with the evolution in technology and architecture. • 5. The Denver Basin Aquifer Framework Denver Basin Aquifer The Denver Basin aquifer framework is a noteworthy wellspring of water for South Metro Denver. The system extends from Colorado Springs in the south to Greeley in the north, from the foothills close to Golden in the west, toward the eastern fields close to Limon, is a surface locale of around 6,700 square miles. It joins four aquifers: the Dawson, Denver, Arapahoe, and Laramie Fox Hills. Each aquifer has different water quality, profundities, and water availability (CFWE, 2002). Describe the source of the groundwater, that is, where is the rainfall and snowmelt that feeds the aquifer coming from, and what are the best estimates of the travel time from the source to the point of withdrawal. The Denver Basin has a semi arid atmosphere in which potential yearly evaporation is around five times greater than yearly precipitation. Most of the precipitation that falls on the land surface either runs off in streams, is evaporated from the surface of the soil, or is consumed by vegetation. Although this may be the case, a little part of the precipitation more often than not diffuses downwards and recharges the groundwater system. In the Denver Basin, a lot of the recharge happens in the highland areas between stream channels in the higher southern part of the basin. Precipitation is more prominent here, and the porous soils derived from the Dawson Arkose allow deep permeation. Recharge here can happen on a local and a regional scale. Locally, water moves ... • 6. Dysfunctionality In Arthur Miller s Death Of A Salesman The effects of Dysfunctionality Any family can be dysfunctional. Whether it be by the lack of communication, faith, or even the wrong mindset of others. Arthur Miller captures that perfectly in Death of a Salesman as he puts Willy Loman the main protagonist in some sketchy situations. The amount of stress that Miller puts on Willy s back is almost unbearable for a person. His kids are back and living with him, his job has gone down the drain and on top of that he is going slightly crazy. Willy talks to himself, and with the help and support of his wife we soon begin to realize that Willy and his wife Linda are co dependent. The Loman family can be classified as a co dependant and even as a dysfunctional family. Willy may be losing his mind with talking to himself and basically living in his own realistic flashbacks, but even as his mind deteriorates piece by piece his wife will continue to help him and love him. As Willy describes his experience of him not remembering how he was driving and telling about how he kept swerving off the road Linda attempts to comfort him and tells him Oh. • 8. Descriptive Essay On Rain Forest It was two years ago, in Australia. My parents, my sisters and I were visiting the country in camping car, and we had decided to go on an excursion in a rainforest. The weather was enjoyable, there were a couple of clouds in the sky, just enough to make the heat bearable. We had walked in many other forests, but only in other countries. Me and my sisters were very excited to walk through our first Australian rainforest. If we had known what was awaiting us there we would have certainly not chosen to go at all. We were all panicking, we did not know how to get them off. My mother then had a really great idea : I know what to do she stated. What asked my two sisters in unison. I know that salt repels leeches, and I also know there is salt in the mosquito repellent, so we should try and spray the repellent on the leeches and see if that works. She answered. Do it on me first! Screamed my two sisters, eager to get these disgusting blood suckers off their skin. After testing the repellent on a leech on my father s leg, the worm detached from our skin in a spasmodic movement of what looked like pain. And so, quickly and effectively we started to get rid of the leeches. Everyone had some on their skin, except me. I was glad I had taken what I thought had been a piece of dirt off my leg, because there was no doubt now, that it was a leech. Once we were sure that all of them were gone, we started thinking about how these worms got into our clothes when we were walking, and instantly we knew: it was the rain. The leeches must have been on branches and trees, and feeling our presence, have let themselves drop on us alongside the drops of water. That thought in mind we went back to the camping car ... • 10. Military Advantage Tuition Assistance in the Military: Is it Worth it? College nowadays is expensive. Too expensive for any student to be able to pay without applying for countless scholarships, hoping they can win just enough to push themselves through, or taking out incredibly large loans and going into debt to further their education. However, there is a more reliable, more financially stable option. Students struggling with paying for college should join the military. Although the military is a potentially dangerous and life changing option, it is one of the better ways to get yourself through college, and set yourself up for future job opportunities. As well as coverage of most college expenses, the military provides a multitude of other benefits, including experience that is easily utilized in the civilian world. Although there is danger associated with joining the military, the benefits far outweigh the costs. Especially with the many benefits and privileges that come along with it. The main reason many people would join the military for is the coverage of college expenses. According to College Costs: FAQ, the average cost of college tuition over 4 years can range anywhere from $9.4k to $32.4k. Most college students, if working, work a minimum wage job due to lack of education for a higher paying job. In Oregon, the minimum wage is approximately $9.75 per hour. Effects of Electronic Usage on Perceived and Actual Quality of Sleep Melanie Poole Kent State University Abstract The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between use of electronic devices during resting and sleep hours, and quality of sleep as measured by self report and polysomnography. Fifty participants will be asked to individually spend three consecutive nights in a sleep laboratory, and to go about their nightly routines while attached to a polysomnograph. Also, that the findings of the self report measures of sleep quality will extend to biophysiological indicators of sleep quality. Effects of Electronic Usage on Quality of Sleep Sleep is a necessity of every living person. Adequate sleep ensures an individual s ability to function throughout the following day, both physically and mentally, and it is an essential contributing factor to the overall health of a person (National Sleep Foundation, 2014). Consistent inadequate sleep and what predicts it is a major concern that is often addressed by physicians and sleep specialists. Of particular interest in this increasingly techno centric world are the effects that regular use of personal electronic devices might have on the odds of obtaining sufficient sleep. A new study (Vallance, Buman, Stevinson, Lynch, 2015) found that individuals with the most screen time had significantly higher odds of reporting sleep problems to their doctors, as well as having trouble falling asleep, waking during the night, and having trouble going back to sleep. The purpose of this proposal is to explore whether or not the effect of technology on perceived sleep disturbances and sleep quality is supported by objective physiological indicators. Technology is undoubtedly becoming an increasingly integral part of everyday modern life. From morning until night, individuals are constantly plugged in via televisions, phones, computers, ... • 12. Persuasive Essay On Attending High School The next chapter in many people s lives is moving away from their hometown and attending college. What people don t yet understand is the major differences between college and high school. Another idea that is not thought of, are they prepared to handle the difficulties and challenges that go forth in earning their desired degree? Attending college is only for people who are willing to take on this challenge. In high school, it is illegal to be truant and classroom attendance is required to graduate so, the only responsibility that a student has is to arrive at school on time. Since attendance is required, it is easy to get into a routine that stays constant over four years. All that is needed is to show up to the first class of the day and all classes are set up for the rest of the day. In class, teachers usually hand out assignments regularly and tell their students the due dates of each assignment. Some teachers even go ahead and have any assignments that are due posted in their classroom to remind students every day. The only responsibility that the high school student has is to look at the white board and remind themselves that they might have an assignment to do that night at home. Once they go home after a day at school, students will have the help of their parents or guardians to ask if they have homework that night. Parents are an enormous help when it comes to high school. Students have the responsibility from their parents to help them be reminded constantly of upcoming events and due dates. The work load that also comes from high school is, what most would call, minimal compared to a college setting. Classes in high school are a year long term and each section of each course is drawn out. For example, a class could take two weeks to complete one chapter. This allows teachers to explain the material in detail and give out worksheets that contain small portions of one chapter. Most of these worksheets can be completed in class allowing students to not have any work outside of the class room. What this creates is a workload that is very simple to maintain and allow students to worry less about working at home. In most college classrooms, the instructor does not take attendance. Their mindset is that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Chinese Farmers Discovered The Terracotta Warrior In 1974, local Chinese farmers discovered the Terracotta Warrior life sized clay sculptures. The weather was dry in 1974, and the grain was dying in the fields of Lintong County, Shaanxi Province, near Xian, China and some local farmers were trying to establish a new water well by digging at a low point in the terrain. Whilst digging they encountered the first evidence of the Terracotta Warriors. One of the local farmers Yang Zhifa quoted on the discovery At first the digging went well. The second day we hit hard red earth. The third day, my hoe dug out the neck of a terracotta statue without a head, but the opening at the bottom was about size of a bowl, . It wasn t until months later when archaeologists were informed, arrived and realized that the farmers had stumbled upon an astonishing find in the form of a large scale Terracotta Warriors dig. They dated the construction around 246 206 BC during the Qin Dynasty. It was during the reign of the first Emperor of a unified Imperial China Qin Shi Huang Di. According to Ancient Chinese linguist the words Shi Huang translate as First Emperor so this individual was also known as the first Emperor of the Qin Dynasty. Wish to be the fastest runner, yet instead, everyone walks at a snail s pace. Tampering with fate will leave people panicking in the aftermath of its unforeseeable outcome. In The Monkey s Paw , by William W. Jacobs, fate is stronger than human will. The people live a normal life until they obtain the Monkey s Paw. Subsequently, they quickly learn to dread the result of reshaping fate. The unimaginable power fate has over human will is best left untouched, because the consequences are unanticipated, fate tries to balance changes from human will, and people face remorse trying to alter their fate. Although free will is able to change the future, fate leads to unexpected results that show people should not bother to alter it.The outcome is not usually what one anticipates for. For example, when Mr. white wishes for money upon the monkey s paw he does not anticipate for its consequences. Likewise, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The death of Herbert is an example because they have the power to revive and kill him. Their days become long and empty while waiting for their wish to revive him to become true(Jacobs 222). Above all, if Herbert s death was natural, their reaction would have been different; the cause of their sorrow is due to the trying to manipulate the unforeseeable fate. • 17. The Uncertainty Of Illness Theory Introduction Mishel s Uncertainty in Illness Theory is a mid range theory, created using a bi directional process where the theory informed and was informed by research. The theory looks at how uncertainty is capable of influencing a patient s ability to become accustomed to their sickness and the outcome of it. People faced with uncertainty may not know what the outcome of their illness will be or they may be living with the possibility that their illness will come back. Either way, the theory examines how people progress and change while dealing with uncertainty. Summary of Theory Uncertainty as it pertains to illness, is defined as the inability to determine the meaning of illness related events, occurring when the decision maker is unable to assign definite value to objects or events, or is unable to predict outcomes accurately (Alligood, 2014). The uncertainty in illness theory examines how people adapt when they are faced with the uncertainty of illness. The theory considers patients facing an illness and how the uncertainty they are facing can cognitively be negative or positive. Depending on the patient s perspective of the situation is the way the patient will cope and adapt. • 21. The Issue Of Legalizing Gambling INTRODUCTION Casinos are all throughout the country, but are they a positive influence for our society? Our economy? There are people on all sides of this issue; some people have difficulty determining the reasons behind legalizing gambling in the first place. In a panel data analysis done by Doug Walker and John Jackson, gambling is legalized to offer other opportunities for states to increase revenue (Walker and Jackson 1). This explains why legalizing gambling is important to state governments, saying states need different revenue options and that gambling would help with an increase in revenue for the states. Other people on this issue wonder if casinos can be consistently relied upon for state revenue. According to Forbes, the casino industry in Las Vegas has been decreasing because of the recession from 2007 2009. Outside of the United States, the industry has increased over the past few years (Forbes). This indicates that the casino business isn t as big as it was before the recession. This has big implications on state revenues and budgeting. Global Gaming Business Magazine is along those lines, saying two casinos in Atlantic City are empty; not enough supply of casinos for the demand (Global Gaming Business Magazine). The recession has made significant impacts on the industry and the industry can t keep up. And states need to be aware of these issues so they don t make the same mistakes as Atlantic City. Although in a weak states, like Colombia, Indonesia, Thailand, the state is still able to provide some political goods to its citizens and exercise power in much of the national territory, in a failed state this is not the case. The failed state is indeed unable to provide basic and economic needs to its citizens. The nature of the failed state varies across geographical regions, colonial history, and political circumstances. However, they share some economic and political features. Human insecurity pervades in every aspects of a failed state, from social tensions to civil wars, from geography to corruption and external actors, whose presence in many cases proceeds to worsen situations. The vast majority of failed states lack in security and violate most of the human rights of their citizens while at the same time fail to ensure basic social services. In William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream love is portrayed as something erratic and unpredictable that is an affliction of the eyes as shown by the use of the love potion and the focus on physical beauty. (1.1) To the audience, both of these options seem outlandish and overly severe, thus generating sympathy towards Hermia s cause. The Holocaust was the massive destruction of European Jewry during World War II, when millions were systematically persecuted and exterminated solely because of their social, cultural, ethnic, or religious characteristics (Barel, Van Ijzendoorn, Sagi Schwartz, Bakermans Kranenburg). Contrary to popular belief, Jews were not the only group targeted in the Holocaust, as five million more lives were taken in groups other than the Jews. Three other groups targeted during his deadly event were the homosexuals, the mentally and physically disabled, and the ethnic minorities, whose death toll equaled 2,285,000, a combined total that clearly showed how determined the Nazis were in destroying their targeted victims in the Holocaust.. The homosexuals were a major group targeted in the Holocaust, and between 5,000 and 15,000 members were targeted ( Five Million Forgotten Holocaust s Non Jewish Victims ). The main reason the homosexuals were targeted was because the Nazis believed that male homosexuals were weak, effeminate men who could not fight for the German nation. You must use a stainless steel pan to cook in, if an aluminum pan is used it can discolor the white sauce to a murky grey. The flavor of the onion and clove used to season the sauce should be noticeable, but not strong enough to overwhelm the milk base. In similarity the sauce should not taste like the roux. It is very unlikely every nation that takes part in a war is effected but may not show it. America is not immune to these effects but no one really wants to address them or resolve them. And because of that wars around the world have affected service members, their families and the society in America in many ways; ignorance of these effects often results in the affected from getting the help they need. The most well known of these effects are the economic impacts of wars. During periods of major war, such as the World Wars, a large number of jobs open up in order to help the war effort. But once the war is over or has slowed to a minor conflict those jobs are no longer needed and the people working them are laid off. A solution to this problem is instead of just laying off the workers attempt help them in transferring to a new job. Another effect is national paranoia and extreme patriotism which is usually caused by some stories covered on the news. These stories are most likely about a terrorist attack or news about enemy movements. The solution could be to just tell about the event instead of over glorifying it. Another problem is that wars help to taint Americans view of other nations and religions. For example terrorism has put in the heads of a majority of Americans that all Muslims are terrorists which is not true most Muslims do not condone of the actions of Muslim extremists. A possible solution is to educate people on the difference between extremists and regular followers of a faith. Another problem is the love hate relation with the military which became a major occurrence during the Vietnam War where soldiers returning home would be called baby killers and treated with disrespect. Most soldiers would refuse to wear their uniforms on their way back home to avoid the ridicule. The people mainly did this because parts of the Vietnam War were televised and one of the stories showed soldiers burning down a village but gave no context as to why. Another reason why there is a love hate relation with the military is because the people do not know what a job in the military entails. A way to resolve this could be to show more of soldiers helping people and not put the focus on what the military has done wrong. Then there is the problem of a large amount of ... The story takes place in Ancient Greek, during the Medieval Times, where the Greeks wrote that people could be transformed into werewolves. As Murray states, it states that the poem demonstrates the kinds of friendship and love that exist among the three protagonists. It mentions that the poem depicts how de France confronts her readers with a story that raises a moral issue. It adds that many of de France s poems critique the unchristian and uncharitable marriages. The story really gives off a good example, on how the people who one think s can trust with one s life, especially in this case, can turn on one for the money, fame, power, etc. The three themes that are shown in The Lay of the Werewolf are betrayal, dishonor, ... He had so much faith and determination for what he was doing and tried very hard to do it the right way. When he first started for equality, there were many that disagreed. They thought he was going too quickly or doing it the wrong way. They began calling him an extremist. Some thought it was an act of civil disobedience. But as William Scheuerman put it, it is simply a matter of recognizing that civil disobedience is best understood primarily as a conscientious moral challenge to the law (Scheuerman 427). King asked them one simple question about a list of people and what they were trying to accomplish. He put himself in that list as well. After all, he considered himself to be on that list since they all were extremists for different things. King wanted everything to be peaceful and not to distract people from going crazy and breaking the law. Some thought otherwise. Observations prepare future teachers to experience how classrooms are conducted every day in turn providing them with the resources that will eventually exist in their own classroom. I witnessed many techniques in the classrooms that will be very beneficial throughout my teaching career that will aid in motivating, inspiring, and assisting students. My observation was at Webb City Middle School in Webb City, Missouri with Lori Smith s 6th grade class. Mrs. Smith utilized several teaching strategies throughout my observation that helped the students learn, and maintain classroom management. Some of the strategies were: call and response sayings, collaboration, and checking for understanding. Call and response helped the students to stay on task when they began to lose interest or began to talk to their neighbor. Some of the call and responses were: class...class...yes...yes, and oh wonderful class...oh wonderful teacher. Collaboration supports students in the learning process when they are presented a problem and the students have to work through it together to come up with an appropriate answer. I loved how she structured the lesson on ratios and fractions. Mrs. Smith began the lesson by modeling some of the problems on the smart board with a worksheet.
