Don John Lies
Much Ado About Nothing There are many different lies but they are all categorized into three main
lies. These lies are classified on how they hurt people. In the book Much Ado About Nothing by
William Shakespeare, Don John the brother of Don Pedro, is the biggest, most notorious liar in the
entire book. Don John lies to many people to achieve revenge and destroy relationships for his own
gains. His traitorous acts deceived many innocent people and put them in harm s way and deceived
many people as well. Don John lied to all these people because he wanted revenge for he lost the war
against his brother and used the chance which Don Pedro gave him to get revenge. ... Show more

Everyone portrayed Edward Snowden as a villain when he betrayed the National Security Agency.
When he revealed the reasons to why he betrayed the NSA, which was the government planning to
spy on the text messages and other private messages of people, they idolized Snowden for bravely
risking his life to reveal the information to the people. Don John is probably trying to destroy their
friendship as he knows something important that will save Claudio s life just like Snowden did. This is
classified as lie number one, as it is a lie to help someone, But this was not the case as in the book,
Borachio spied on Don Pedro and Claudio talking and reported the plan to his master, Don John. Don
John planned to use this to his advantage to shatter Claudio s and Don Pedro s friendship. This type of
lie is classified as lie number two, as Don John is lying for his own gain to satisfy his

JOINT EFFECTS OF COMPLIANCE AND EFFICACY OF SOLAR DISINFECTION OF
DRINKING WATER ON CHILDHOOD DIARRHOEA:
(A case study of Manyatta and Nyalenda peri urban areas of Kisumu East.)
CHAPTER ONE
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Zepha (2008), states that, Solar Water Disinfection (SODIS) is a simple, cheap and environmentally
friendly method for treating microbiologically contaminated drinking water at household level. (as
cited in Moses ,Zephaniah Jacques,2008, p.3). According to EAWAG (2008), SODIS utilizes solar
radiation to inactivate pathogenic microbes majorly known to cause water borne diseases and thereby
improving water quality. The pathogens are vulnerable to a synergistic effect of UV A light
(wavelength 320 400nm) and increased water temperature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
SODIS is one of the methods recommended and indeed has an attributable fraction of 16% to
diarrhoea and adjusted odds ratio of 0.65 at 95% C.I thus a protective factor (Conroy, et al., 1999).
The PETS used are transformed into photoproducts by sunlight. However, laboratory tests have
proven that these photoproducts are generated at the outer surface of the bottles and No indication for
migration of possible photoproducts or additives from PET bottles into water was observed with the
applied analytical methods (Suter et al.2001). Kohler et al. (2008) confirms that the use of PETS and
SODIS procedure is safe as far as human exposure to di(2 ethylhexyl)adipate (DEHA) and di(2
ethylhexyl)phthalate is concerned.
A study conducted in Bolivia by Moser H and Mosler HJ (2008) indicated that the adoption of SODIS
was dependent on increased participation of opinion leaders and community on drinking water
themes. Further, a study by Landolt et al. (2009) showed that the acceptance and sustained use of
SODIS was greatly determined by the availability of PET bottles locally, repeated training and
promotion programmes, user educational level, motivation and commitment of promoters, social
pressure, and institutional aspects. Tamas et al. (2011) indicated that decrease in health promotion
consequently made users to terminate

Mauna Kea s Thirty Meter Telescope
Construction is expected to resume on the $1.4 billion Thirty Meter Telescope in Honolulu. The Board
of Land and Natural Resources voted to impose an emergency rule to keep protesters from interfering
with the project. Campers were already being turned away, but now no one can be within a mile of the
mountain s access road during certain nighttime hours, unless they re in a moving vehicle.
Sacred Ground
Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano, but it s altitude and location in the middle of the Pacific Ocean
make it an ideal place to stargaze. Protesters want construction halted because they maintain the
telescope is being built on sacred ground. Aside from it s great views of the night sky, the mountain is
home to many unique and rare plant and animal species. Some think this newest ruling also infringes
on the rights of the people who live there because it denies them access to the mountain for cultural
and religious practices. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

An Occurrence At Owl s Creek Analysis
According to Henry James, the ability to successfully compose a fictional story is in knowing the
difference between imagination and reality. This ability as conveyed by James is a gift given to us by
nature for simply being human. Our life experiences equip us with the ability to effortlessly discern
the unseen (our imaginations) from the seen (reality).
Using James perspective, one can easily understand why two different stories can have the same
realistic feel and or convey the same hidden meaning. The story Desiree s baby by Kate Chopin and
the story An occurrence at Owl s creek by Ambrose Bierce is a perfect example of this. Because as
suggested by James, human s way of life and the environment where they live can influence ... Show

The reader s brain quickly responds to the author s depictions of smells and textures and movements
and perceives them as if they were the real thing. But this is only possible if the reader had encounter
or had knowledge of the things being describe by the author. For example if an author wrote Dave
took one of the lemons Cathy left in the bowl. He grabbed one of the kitchen knives, cut through the
bright yellow skin, revealing the luminous fruit inside. He tilted his head back, mouth wide open,
holds the peeled lemon up; squeeze it, allowing a few drops of the juice onto his tongue. The
immediate reaction of anyone who s ever tasted a lemon before will be to pucker their lip as if tasting
the real lemon. Also the reader will also quickly visualize the character Dave, taking the lemon from
the bowl, grabbing the knife and the other things he did till the lemon juice reached his mouth. A
person who s never had lemon before however might be able to visualize all the things described
except for the taste of the lemon when it reached the character s mouth. So as James said the condition

Snakes are Infected with Ophidian Paramyxovirus Virus
Ophidian paramyxovirus is a virus that affects snakes, particularly in the family Viperidae; it
compromises the immune system, which can lead to mortality through secondary bacterial infections.
This negative sense, single stranded RNA virus infects the respiratory system and can be transmitted
through feces, respiratory tract secretions, fomites, or vectors such as mites; as such, in captivity, good
husbandry practices are critical to prevent transmission of this disease. Paramyxovirus is a viral
pathogen. The natural host and origin for this virus is unknown, but it is possible that it is not a viperid
(5). The first reported outbreak of paramyxovirus in snakes was in a group of Brazilian lancehead
vipers in a serpentarium in Switzerland (1). These vipers were originally from Brazil, so it is likely
that the origin of the virus is found in Brazil (5). The virus itself is an RNA virus consisting of a
filamentous particle enveloped in a spiked membrane, and can be between 140 and 321 nanometers in
diameter. The virus replicates at an optimal temperature of 30°C, so the disease is a particular concern
in colder seasons (3). This virus is easily transmitted between individuals, particularly when they are
housed close to each other. It is most often transmitted through respiratory secretions (2). It can also
be transmitted through aerosols, such as sputum, and oral and cloacal secretions. The virus may persist
in water and may be spread through feces. It can also be

Descartes And Descartes s Theories Of Skepticism And...
Every person has a unique answer to so called life questions, but experts like Blaise Pascal and Rene
Descartes have examined and reasoned with the norms of the enlightenment era. The theologians and
philosophers during that time have produced such popular works that they have been used as a
foundation for reason today. In Pascal s Pensees, and Descartes Discourse on Method, they take steps
to examining and reflecting on their own answers to life questions. If Pascal and Descartes conversed
with each other about skepticism and searching for the truth, their approaches would be different and
highly critical of each other, but their conclusions would be the same.
A life question is one that produces an answer entirely dependent on the individual. Descartes wrote a
Discourse on Method, which is his philosophy on how to answer such questions. Pascal wrote
Pensees, which is his thought process on how to answer them as well. Both Pascal and Descartes
address the issue of skepticism in opposing ways. Descartes, as a skeptic, produces a thinking process
to analyze doubt until the truth is found. Pascal takes a more critical approach to skeptics and reveals
that a genuine skeptic has never existed. A skeptics argument to find one s purpose through natural
reason is not possible, but that God will give you faith through your heart, according to Pascal.
Descartes begins his journey for reason by reaching an intense state of thought. By locking himself in
a room, he landed on a

Predestination In Martin Luther s Institutes Of The...
The Protestant Reformation was a movement in 16th century Europe that developed many new beliefs
about Christianity. Along with the man who started the Reformation, Martin Luther, John Calvin is
one of the most well known and influential theologians of this time. In his highly influential book,
Institutes of the Christian Religion, Calvin lays out his main beliefs about many of the major doctrines
of the Christian church. One of the biggest ideas Calvin explores in this book is the relationship
between humans and God in terms of predestination. Ultimately, Calvin argues that God, as the creator
of the world and an inherently righteous being, holds the power of salvation and damnation as humans
act in accordance with God s will. Before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Calvin gives an example of one of these potential arguments in Institutions: [God] adopts as sons
those whom he foreknows will not be unworthy of his grace; he appoints to the damnation of death
those whose dispositions he discerns will be inclined to evil intention and ungodliness (Institutes 932).
This reasoning seems consistent with what Calvin says about predestination, and would show that as
humans, our works merit our salvation. This argument aligns with what a merit theologian such as
Erasmus would argue. Erasmus holds that God respects the free will of humans, and will send them to
heaven or hell based on their free actions. For if God elects those who are worthy of election and
damns those unworthy, it seems that we should be able to merit salvation through our actions, as
theologians such as Erasmus would argue. According to Calvin, however, these critics misinterpret his
teaching. The easiest argument to make, from Calvin s perspective, is that God has given to humans
everything they have without them meriting any of it. The most basic example of this is that he created
each man as a human in his own image rather than as an animal. This is an example that shows how
God gives benefits to humans without them meriting them, and this idea can be extended to the benefit
God gives the elect after they pass. According to Calvin, such benefits were given to us before the
creation of the world,

Examples Of Marxism In 1984
Analyzing 1984 by George Orwell using Marxist Theory Marxist Theory focuses on the idea that
whoever controls the means of production in a society controls the society and the means of
production would be placed with the hands of the masses ( Marxist Theory 2). Karl Marx wrote and
believed that literature was a reflection of culture and culture was affected by literature (2). 1984 by
George Orwell is a dystopian novel that focuses on the life of a man named Winston Smith. The story
follows how he is unhappy with the flawed, but powerful government of his home, Oceania (more
specifically Airstrip 1, London) and his quest to understand and overthrow it. Marxist Theory can be
seen in the government s control over the Party members, the government s control over the Proles,

In this society, the Inner and Outer Party members are constantly being reminded of the Party s power
and are essentially brainwashed into thinking what the Party wants them to think and do at all times.
Things like propaganda, two minutes hate (rallies where Party members must watch a video of the
Party s enemies and express hatred towards them), telescreens which watch the people s every move,
and most importantly fear of being vaporized from their very world are what drives the citizens
towards obedience and towards support for the Party. Orwell even says, Winston kept his back turned
to the telescreen. It was safer, though, as he well knew, even a back can be revealing (Orwell 3).
These examples show the many ways that the Party exercises its control. With all these things
surrounding these people s lives, it is no wonder they live in fear and are brainwashed. All they know
and will ever know is of the Party. As Marx predicted, the Party controls the means of production in
Oceania, so therefore they control Oceania itself ( Marxist Theory

How Is Danforth Justified In The Crucible
In the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, many people in the town of Salem, Massachusetts are
accused of witchcraft and are put to death because of it. But also during the play, the judge refuses to
believe claims that the girls, who are the accusers, are lying and have not actually seen the devil.
Many people are sentenced because of this. Danforth and the other authorities are so resistant to
believing claims that the girls are lying because people have already been hanged, the girls are so
young, and it would ruin their reputation. The first reason why the authorities might be so resistant to
believing the claims is because people have already been hanged for accusations the girls have given.
Danforth said this himself in act four of the play, ... twelve are already executed. When he says this he
means he has already hung twelve people under the influence of the girls. He doesn t want people to
believe they were falsley accused. Danforth also says Postponement now speaks floundering on my
part. He means if he takes back his trust in the girls accusations, people will think he is faulty and
might not want him in a position of power. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the truth. He says this because he wants to believe this, instead of the fact that the girls aren t actually

Sophocles Antigone Analysis
Sophocles was born 498 BC in Colonus near Athens, Greece. His father, Sophillus was a wealthy
weapons maker and a leading citizen. Both birth and wealth, then, set Sophocles apart as someone
likely to play an important role in Athenian society. When Sophocles was six years old, the Athenians
beat the Persians at Salamis. Sophocles did not fight but he saw his house and all of Athens, including
the Parthenon, burned by the Persians before the Athenians beat them. At 16 due to his youth, good
looks, and performing ability, he was picked to a paean (choral chant) about the victory of the Battle
of Salamis. The production involved singing, dancing, and playing the lyre. Like other Greek boys
from wealthy families, Sophocles studied poetry, music, dancing, and gymnastics subjects regarded as
the basis of a well rounded education for a citizen. His early schooling prepared him to serve as a
leader in all aspects of public life, including the military, foreign policy, and the arts. Sophocles wrote
about 120 plays. Sophocles soon became best known as a dramatist. In 468 B.C.E. his tetralogy, or set

The Aftermath of World War I
The aftermath of World War I left a lasting impression on the 1920s because America entered the
Great War later than the big European countries. This gave them an upper hand in their economic
position since they did not spend as much money as France, Germany, and Britain did. This ignited
their unprecedented affluence which had a domino effect in America s society in terms of government
s relationship to business. Another effect of the First World War is the Red Scare and America s
prejudice and fear against the minorities shown through the immigration policies it established. These
changes in the economy increased living standards, evidently seen through the consumer culture,
progressive innovations, and increased consumption. This illusion of expanding prosperity came to an
end with the stock market crash in 1929. This opened America s eyes to their limits which make the
1920s a decade imperative for its legacy rippled throughout our history. With the Republicans in
control of the White House, the policies of promoting business while limiting government control was
in favor. President Calvin Coolidge stated, The business of America was business, which was the truth
as America plunged into a prosperous economic growth fueled by the consumer culture and other new
ideas. The booming economy was led by the automobile industry. This was started by Henry Ford,
who pioneered two developments that made this industry growth possible standardization and mass

Poverty Today s Day And Age Has Become More Common Than...
Poverty in today s day and age has become more common than ever before. Poverty involves not
being able to participate in activities that most other people are able to do (Raphael 2015, Lecture).
The topic of poverty connects with inequality, where living conditions produce material and social
deprivation that intensively threaten health and reduce the quality of life for an exclusive subset of the
population (Raphael 2011, preface). For children, this has been a disregarded subject and deserves
much more attention and consideration worldwide. In health, education, and material well being, there
comes this impression of children falling behind (Adamson 2010, p. 1). In a well established country
like Canada, the topic of poverty, as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5). The second dimension of inequality is the inequality in young people s achievement through their
education (Adamson 2010, p. 9). The third dimension of inequality involves three indicators that are
used in children s self reported health complaints; healthy eating; and frequency of vigorous physical
activity (Adamson 2010, p. 13). Through economic causes, its social costs and its possible remedies,
inequality has become a major concern over the last three decades (Adamson 2010, p. 3). Inequality is
an example of the changes in both the ability and effort it provides for further progress in all types of
fields that engage in human endeavor (Adamson 2010, p. 3). Before the economic crisis in 2008,
surveys were conducted to measure inequality and deploy data. Since well being has many
dimensions, survey s were conducted favoring multidimensional measurements (Adamson 2010, p. 3).
In terms of measuring the gap, based on the data that is available, there are two different methods that
are used for approximating how far behind children are being allowed to fall (Adamson 2010, p. 4).
The first method compares the child at the 10th percentile with the child at the 50th percentile. Then
the degree of inequality is measured by the gap in between these two individuals, and that is shown as
a percentage of the median position that exists. The second method compares the level of

Essay about Quest for Identity in The Life of Galileo by...
Quest for Identity in The Life of Galileo by Brecht
Throughout the course of history, from era to era, mankind has been on a continuous attempt to
perpetuate what they perceive as the truth; and in doing so, embark on a quest to find their true
identity and place in life. One must realize that the common theme in all literature is the search for
identity and belonging. Bertolt Brecht, author of The Life of Galileo, effectively uses the developing
character Galileo Galilei to portray a strong message; a message which five hundred years after the
fact has still not been completely comprehended. Through Galileo s continuous battle with the Church
in prevailing his work, Brecht is telling the readers that in any one man s attempt ... Show more

Development and change are issues which the church fears due to the fact that advancement
undermine the strength of the chruch when changes are brought to religion. The church s opinion and
attitude towards Galileo s discoveries are clearly outlined by Sagredo on Pg. 23 as he states: Do you
think the Popes will hear your truth and say Wonderful, I m wrong. Do you think he ll even listen to
you? ...When I saw you just now, at the telescope, looking at your new stars I saw you standing on
burning logs. When I heard you say I believe in reason I smelt burnt flesh. (Brecht 23)
What Brecht is telling us through the use of Galileo and his stubborn and persistent need to present his
findings, is that even though one is presented with adversities, in Galileo s case, the church, one must
continue to use reason to spread the truth. In any case, Galileo believes that religion does not
necessarily have to be sacrificed in order to advance a society in terms of technology. At this point in
the play, he believes that the use of reason can overcome any obstacle in the attempt to prevail the
truth; in a sense, what Brecht is telling the readers through Galileo s stance against the church is that
the ability to think, innovate, and propagate the truth are the key requirments that will enhance our
society. In this case, Galileo is faced time and time again with adversaries that tell him to stop what he

foolear The Wise Fool in Shakespeare s King Lear Essay
The Wise Fool in King Lear
Whether or not the role of the Fool is an important one within King Lear is arguable. Although he
seems to have great insight into much of the plays main events, he seems not to have any real
influence on both the plot as well as the outcome of the play. He remains the sole character who does
not have any direct link with the events of the plot, coupled with an unusually early exit; this raises the
question of his significance. However at the very least he does certainly serve as entertainment not
only for Lear but the audience as well, with his honesty, wittiness, and clever speeches that not only
adds to the light humour but also to show us that the Fool could indeed be perceived as being ... Show

However, we can see that when the Fool becomes too close to the raw truth Lear will warn him that he
will be whipped if he goes too far. When Lear first warns him with it, he replies:
Truth s a dog, that must to kennel: he must be whipped out, when the Lady Brach may stand by the
fire and stink.
Here the Fool warns Lear that his two daughters will have control over him due to his actions.
Although Lear doesn t want to hear the truth and therefore tries to avoid it, the Fool essentially forces
it out into the open through his speeches. He often uses comedic verses of saying to highlight the point
he is trying to put across. In addition to this, he also provides various rhymes and riddles, taking on
the role of a Chorus as a means of discussing the plays actions in a light hearted yet clearly stating the
essence of what is happening. For example, the following quotation sees the Fool referring to Lear s
actions concerning Cordelia:
...That man makes his toe
What he his heart should make,
Shall of a corn cry woe
And turn his sleep to wake
He refers to the way in which people may drive away those who they should love due to misplaced
affection and that this will ultimately cause a person much grief and sleeplessness. This refers to the
way he reacted when Cordelia failed to flatter him in his `love test. This suggest the Fool to be quite
wise to point this out, however it may be too

The, The Glass Castle By Jeannette Walls, And Flight By...
Aspiring to be free, to be successful, to be a picture perfect family, and to be happy; these are the traits
of the American dream. Although, in one s mind a specific picture forms when reading about the
American dream this does not mean everyone is seeing the same landscape. A prevalent theme in The
Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, and Flight by Sherman Alexie is the
potency and prevalence of diversity on the American dream. In each of these compelling works,
connoisseurs get a taste of life from different demographics viewpoints and a measure of what it
means to be yearning for the diverse definition of American ideals.
To begin with, The Joy Luck Club centers its content around the lives of eight women of Chinese
heritage each with their own stories to tell; yet, all striving to satisfy their aspirations in America. A
concisive cross is common between the mothers hopes compared to those of the American born

The Contributions Of Alexander Hamilton And George Washington
I am not throwing away my shot! Alexander Hamilton was one of our founding fathers, he was an
important part of history. He aided George Washington many times, becoming his right hand man. He
took chances away from Aaron Burr, and prevented him from becoming president. Most importantly,
he was shot by Aaron Burr in a duel. Alexander aided George Washington until his 1783 resignation
from being president. Hamilton became Washington s aid in 1777, writing many things for him. He let
Hamilton lead troops in The Battle of Yorktown. Alexander wrote George s farewell address for him in
1796. He did not want to run for another term, which allowed Burr and Jefferson to run for president.

and why does the Fed aim for a 2% inflation rate?
Prices change because of the economy. Inflation is represented as a rise in the general price level. For
example, prices of many goods and services such as housing, apparel, food, transportation, and fuel
must be increasing in order for inflation to occur in the overall economy. If prices of just a few types
of goods or services are growing, there isn t necessarily inflation. Demand Pull Inflation and Cost

Similarities Between Riyadh And Greensboro
All cities in the word are unique. Some of the cities have similarity and the other are different. Also,
some of the cities located in the same country but it totally different from each to other. It is different
in people behave, accent, and whether. However, my hometown Riyadh is very different from
Greensboro in United states. The three significant differences between them are size, weather, and
activity.
First, the important thing different between Riyadh and Greensboro is size. Riyadh is a big city and
population number was increasing every year. As a result, the Traffic sign sure will happen. In
addition, the distance between North and South is very long. For example, my home is in the north
and my university is in the west, If I want to go to university it takes about one and a half hour.. On
the other hand, Greensboro is a small city when I compare it with Riyadh. At the sign, I have never
been more than five minutes. Also, from my home to UNCG it takes about 13 minutes. Every place in

Fiat s share of the European market shrank from 9.4% in 2000 to 5.8% in the summer of 2004, when
Sergio Marchionne was appointed as Chief Executive. By March 2009 their market share had risen to
9.1%. This was mainly due to the successful launch of new cars, notably the Fiat 500. On 20 January
2009, Fiat and the US carmaker Chrysler announced their intention to form a global alliance. Under
the terms of the agreement, Fiat would take a 20% stake in Chrysler and gain access to its North
American distribution network in exchange for providing Chrysler with technology and platforms to
build smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles in the US and providing reciprocal access to Fiat s global

In addition, the proposed agreement would entitle Fiat to receive a further 15% of Chrysler (without
cash consideration) subject to the achievement of specific product and commercial objectives. No cash
or financial support was required from Fiat under the agreement. Instead it would obtain its stake
mainly in exchange for covering the cost of retooling a Chrysler plant to produce one or more Fiat
models for in the US. Fiat would also provide engine and transmission technology to enable Chrysler
to introduce smaller, fuel efficient models in the NAFTA (North America Free Trade Agreement USA,

The red wolves are an endangered species. Right now they are only 45 60 left the wild. If people don t
do something soon they might become completely extinct.
Red wolves are very similar to the coyotes. As their name name suggests the have red coat but also a
little brown mixed into it. They are the smaller and leaner version of their cousin, the grey wolf. They
are native to the southeast region of North America. Red wolves are mostly found in forest and
swamps but can survive mostly anywhere in the southeast. They are a carnivorous species and their
diet ranges from small rodents to white tailed deer. If they can not find anything else they have been to

They can also breed with coyotes because their DNA is so similar. Both of the parents care for their
young after they are born. The pups leave the den by the time they are 6 weeks old, they reach full size
by the time they are one and can reproduce by the time they are two. Red wolves have many different
adaptations. During the summer they lose their coats and during the winter they grow them back. By
doing this so they can keep cool during the summer and be warm in the winter. They have sharp teeth
that help them catch and eat their prey. Another adaptation of the red wolves is that they can survive
having heartworms. To help them thrive in their habitats they stay in packed. This aids them in
hunting, defensing, and surviving. Red wolves in the wild face many challenges such as over hunting
and loss of habitat. During the 1960 many hunter thought red wolves were dangerous and over hunted
them. The wolves habitat have also been destroyed leaving very few left in the wild today. After being
declared endangered in the 1970s, recovery programs have been created to help save the red wolves.

Social Structure And Hierarchy At The Gym
For the deviance assignment I decided to break the social norms that are prevalent in the gym while
working out. Cal Poly has a very active campus that uses the gym very regularly. The gym has its own
set of rules and norms that are followed by everyone. I personally do not spend a lot of time in the
gym so to prepare I watched 30 minutes of YouTube videos and read multiple lists of unwritten gym
rules and things not to do at the gym. The social structure and hierarchy at the gym is different than
real life. The gym social structure is based on how much muscle the person has and for how long the
person has been lifting. Therefore, I was at the bottom due to the fact that I am rail thin and do not
work out regularly. As someone at the bottom of the social order I was for the most part ignored,
similar to how one ignores the poor and homeless. The only way to get a reaction out of people was to
act out and disturb the social order. No one offered to help me and spend time with me to improve out
of the goodness of his or her heart, most people stick to themselves. The only way to be noticed is to
act out, similar to how poor people and homeless act out to get attention because they do not know
any other way. The only person to talk to me and tell me that I was messing around was a male in his
30 s who was very muscular and was a workout regular. He, in the social structure, is much higher and
the advice is similar to a teacher speaking down to a student. He told me that

Significance Of The Second Seminole War
In order to understand the significance of the Second Seminole War, one must first examine the First
Seminole War. Frustrated with Seminole protection of runaway slaves, Andrew Jackson and more than
three thousand men entered northern Florida in 1816 and began to decimate Seminole populations.
Despite most of these campaigns being unsanctioned by the United States government and protested
by the British and the Spanish, Jackson was received as a war hero throughout the nation. The Adam
Onis Treaty of 1819 officially transfesrred ownership of Florida from Spain to the United States (a
major political victory for the United States at the time), and the deportation of the Seminoles out of
the newly acquired land became of the utmost importance in 1821.
After tensions between indigenous tribes and white settlers intensified, the United States government
approached the Seminoles in an attempt to begin the deportation process. The first course of action
was to not only quell the conflicts between the two parties in Florida, but to begin to encroach on the
Seminole land and force them into reservations. This would make it all the easier when it came time to
begin official removal of the Seminoles.
The Treaty of Moultrie Creek in 1823 stipulated that the Seminoles would surrender any land claims
within Florida in exchange for official protection by the United States, monetary funding, and a large
reservation located in central Florida. The location was designated far enough inland

How Does Washington Irving Use Symbols In The Legend Of...
Washington Irving uses symbolism in his short story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The Legend of
Sleepy Hollow takes place in a town called Sleepy Hollow which is near Tarrytown, New York. The
two main characters Ichabod Crane and Brom Bones have a dispute over a women named Katrina.
The story may or may not have come from the German tales of the headless horseman that have
influenced the Dutch tales. Brom Bones is one of the main characters who symbolizes country versus
rural and hero vs villain. He is a country Bumpkin (Smith). Fun, loving, clever, and skillful on a horse
(Werlock). An athletic, mischievous, and determined young suitor (D Ammassa). Called Brom bones
because of his great physical strength (Werlock). The hero of the country round. With more mischief
than ill will in his composition (Milne). Serves as a means to achieve the goal of the female
community (Milne). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Just Lather, That s All
Many have been left thinking and questioning details of Hernando Téllez s Just Lather, That s All .
This story depicts the internal conflict of the barber when the most feared military captain comes into
the shop for a shave. The protagonist the barber contemplates, weather to kill Torres his enemy and
fulfil his revolutionary duties, or shave the Captain without letting one single drop of blood fall on
behalf of a good barber. At the end when the Captain is still alive he shocks the barber revealing that
he knew all along that he was secretly a rebel and what he wanted to do. This piece of writing has
many interesting aspects to analyze, but symbolization, theme and connections were the most
meaningful to me. The razor was a very symbolic object according to many people. If you don t
already know, symbolization is when we take a solid object and give it and abstract idea. The razor
symbolizes countless things throughout this piece. It was evident that it symbolized his profession but,
it also could be used as a murder weapon. The moral dilemma it represented of the barber was the
most prominent to me. All through the text the barber was faces this internal conflict of to kill or not to
kill. Weather to stand by his morality or collective beliefs. Weather to do what he thought was right or
to do what he was told to be right. These opposites clash and had resulted in conflict. Hero or
murderer? His destiny was set on

The Old Age Of 18
At the ripe old age of 18, I have lived in three decades, two centuries, and two millennia and I haven t
even graduated high school yet. My generation has been the most educated group of youngsters yet,
and we have been granted the gift of being the first generation to grow up in the ever changing world
of incredible technology. Anything we ve needed has been readily available at Wal Mart, and all of our
food has been carefully stripped of pesky bugs and bacterias. We have been taught how to be
successful and done everything experts say to do, from joining every club or organization we can, to
maintaining immaculate grade point averages, in order to make ourselves look good on paper. This
generation has been made out to seem like everything has been handed to us, that we will go out in the
world to successful just because of who we are. However, this is not the case. It seems that sometimes
our greatest strengths are also our greatest weaknesses. From the start of our adult lives we are
weighed down with the crippling debt that comes with our education, hit with the realization that we
are being thrown into an incredibly tough job market, and sliced with the double edged sword that is
technology.
All parents want the best for their offspring, especially when it comes to their future. However, no
matter how much they prepare, no working class family can afford to shell out over 60,000 dollars for
their child s college education. Kids are faced with an incredible amount of

Comparing The Time Period Of Joseph Hansberry s The Sun
As you begin to compare the time period in which A Raisin in the Sun was written, the 1950s, and
now, you can find many similarities and differences regarding racial equality in the Chicagoland, even
more specifically the south side. The Younger family, deriving from the African American descent, in
Lorraine Hansberry s play, has trouble finding happiness when they are surrounded by successful
white people, while they are stuck living in a two bedroom apartment and struggle to make ends meet.
In the 1950s, it was much harder for African Americans to find jobs where they could make a
substantial living to provide for their families, but in today s society the opportunities for the black
race have improved immensely, although a problem with their pay grade still persists. On the other
hand, the two time periods are similar in the respect that the environment on the Southside of Chicago
today is very similar to what it was like almost 60 years ago. Additionally, just like in the play, police
force continues to be an issue, whether that be because they favor a certain race, or police brutality;
shooting people with the wrong intentions. More problems that exist today include, gang violence,
protests, and segregated schools in the poorer black communities. While the Chicagoland continues to
struggle with problems regarding racial equality, they have made many improvements such as the
development of organizations to keep children off of the streets and out of trouble as well as

International Financial Reporting Standards Board
With the number of countries that have switched to the International Financial Reporting Standards
(IFRS) for their financial reporting, as well as the continued efforts made between the IFRS and US
Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), it is evident that international convergence is
an overall appealing idea for global reporting. With that said, US GAAP has worked with IFRS to
create a universal standard; and while progress has been made to diminish variances between the
standards, there are still large, if not unattainable, efforts ahead of us. The hype over a proposed
uniform set of global accounting standards appears to be stunted by the lost efforts in the convergence
project between the US GAAP and IFRS. As the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB)
moves forward with its standards setting, there must be a reevaluation of the goal for reporting
standards and efforts with the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB).
Opinions regarding the optimal direction of the standard boards vary amongst regulators, practitioners,
and academics. Many will argue to support continuing efforts for a uniform set of global accounting
standards and believe this will drive more efficient international business. Those who are in favor of a
global standard consider it to be of global best interest, and that the standard is worth pursuing for the
long term benefit considering the increasing prevalence of cross border transactions. Recent global
effects of

Our Identity Changes According to Where We Are and Who We...
Our identity changes according to where we are and who we are with.
Outside influences have a strong capability to influence and alter our personal identity. Both directly
and indirectly, the social contexts in which we live can change the way we think and feel, and by
extension how we interact with other people and places. Immediate family, friendship groups and the
physical environment are all factors which contribute to our ever changing perceptions of ourselves.
Sometimes personal identity can be subtly reshaped over a gradual time frame, as our sense of who we
are is modified without personal recognition that we are changing. At other times we may be able to
notice our personal identity changing, through important life decisions. ... Show more content on

It is primarily our own decision to associate with a desired group of people. The way others see us, as
well as the way we see ourselves can change as a result. In the movie Witness, it is evident that Rachel
is quite fond of John Book. In the scene where she is dancing with him, a change in her identity
becomes apparent. She steers away from all past influences from her family and religion, and is driven
to act like John. She feels a need to relate to him, and is envious of his behaviour. Her behaviour then
reflects a woman who is not of Amish belief, much to the dismay of her father.
Where we are, in a general sense, refers to where we live. The aspects of where we are which relate to
personal identity involve how the society is run, and its physical features. Different societies have a
vast difference in laws, governments, religions, cultures and general ethics. These will then translate to
how the people who live there choose to behave. A strict society with harsh regulations and
punishments will cause people to be more reserved and controlled. A society with a high level of
violence and unethical behaviour will usually cause future generations to act similarly. The physical
features of a location can also influence behaviour and identity. For example, the residents of a society
on the beach will have certain typical and expected behaviour, which then translates to a particular
lifestyle.
Identity is able to be influenced and altered by where we

Effects Of Bunker Fuel Use Over Extended Periods Of Time
Effect of Bunker Fuel Use over Extended Periods of Time Introduction The South Australian
Government is considering the regulation of Bunker Fuel in Port Adelaide, but it is facing a lot of
pressure from shipping companies not to do so. In the future the SA Government plans on getting
more cruise ships to come to Adelaide. The Government want to know how the increased uses of
Bunker Fuel in Port Adelaide will affect the climate, and nearby residents. This report, will be looking
at how the use of Bunker Fuel will affect the environment around it. This report will give the SA
Government an idea of why they should or should not Regulate Bunker Fuel. Bunker Fuel, more
commonly known as Fuel Oil is obtained from crude oil (Wisegeek, n.d.). Bunker Fuel has a large
hydrocarbon chain making it very viscous (Wisegeek, n.d.). Bunker Fuel is also highly contaminated
with substances that manufacturers are unable to remov (Wisegeek, n.d.). Because of this, when
Bunker Fuel is burned, it creates a lot of pollution (Wisegeek, n.d.). Bunker Fuel needs to be heated
before it can be used in an engine (Wisegeek, n.d.). Because of this, it can only be used in a few
engines, such as those on a ship (Wisegeek, n.d.). Also, because Bunker Fuel is so dirty, it makes it
very hard for most engines to burn, however, since ship engines are so large, and sophisticate it allows
them to burn Bunker Fuel (Wisegeek, n.d.). Bunker Fuel is also very cheap making so that ship

In the book Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare, Don John the brother of Don Pedro, is the biggest, most notorious liar in the entire book. Don John lies to many people to achieve revenge and destroy relationships for his own gains. His traitorous acts deceived many innocent people and put them in harm s way and deceived many people as well. Don John lied to all these people because he wanted revenge for he lost the war against his brother and used the chance which Don Pedro gave him to get revenge. ... When he revealed the reasons to why he betrayed the NSA, which was the government planning to spy on the text messages and other private messages of people, they idolized Snowden for bravely risking his life to reveal the information to the people. Don John is probably trying to destroy their friendship as he knows something important that will save Claudio s life just like Snowden did. This is classified as lie number one, as it is a lie to help someone, But this was not the case as in the book, Borachio spied on Don Pedro and Claudio talking and reported the plan to his master, Don John. Don John planned to use this to his advantage to shatter Claudio s and Don Pedro s friendship. • 3. JOINT EFFECTS OF COMPLIANCE AND EFFICACY OF SOLAR... JOINT EFFECTS OF COMPLIANCE AND EFFICACY OF SOLAR DISINFECTION OF DRINKING WATER ON CHILDHOOD DIARRHOEA: (A case study of Manyatta and Nyalenda peri urban areas of Kisumu East.) CHAPTER ONE 1.1 INTRODUCTION Zepha (2008), states that, Solar Water Disinfection (SODIS) is a simple, cheap and environmentally friendly method for treating microbiologically contaminated drinking water at household level. (as cited in Moses ,Zephaniah Jacques,2008, p.3). According to EAWAG (2008), SODIS utilizes solar radiation to inactivate pathogenic microbes majorly known to cause water borne diseases and thereby improving water quality. The pathogens are vulnerable to a synergistic effect of UV A light (wavelength 320 400nm) and increased water temperature ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... SODIS is one of the methods recommended and indeed has an attributable fraction of 16% to diarrhoea and adjusted odds ratio of 0.65 at 95% C.I thus a protective factor (Conroy, et al., 1999). The PETS used are transformed into photoproducts by sunlight. However, laboratory tests have proven that these photoproducts are generated at the outer surface of the bottles and No indication for migration of possible photoproducts or additives from PET bottles into water was observed with the applied analytical methods (Suter et al.2001). Kohler et al. (2008) confirms that the use of PETS and SODIS procedure is safe as far as human exposure to di(2 ethylhexyl)adipate (DEHA) and di(2 ethylhexyl)phthalate is concerned. A study conducted in Bolivia by Moser H and Mosler HJ (2008) indicated that the adoption of SODIS was dependent on increased participation of opinion leaders and community on drinking water themes. Further, a study by Landolt et al. (2009) showed that the acceptance and sustained use of SODIS was greatly determined by the availability of PET bottles locally, repeated training and promotion programmes, user educational level, motivation and commitment of promoters, social pressure, and institutional aspects. Tamas et al. (2011) indicated that decrease in health promotion consequently made users to terminate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sacred Ground Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano, but it s altitude and location in the middle of the Pacific Ocean make it an ideal place to stargaze. Protesters want construction halted because they maintain the telescope is being built on sacred ground. • 5. An Occurrence At Owl s Creek Analysis According to Henry James, the ability to successfully compose a fictional story is in knowing the difference between imagination and reality. This ability as conveyed by James is a gift given to us by nature for simply being human. Our life experiences equip us with the ability to effortlessly discern the unseen (our imaginations) from the seen (reality). Using James perspective, one can easily understand why two different stories can have the same realistic feel and or convey the same hidden meaning. The story Desiree s baby by Kate Chopin and the story An occurrence at Owl s creek by Ambrose Bierce is a perfect example of this. Because as suggested by James, human s way of life and the environment where they live can influence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reader s brain quickly responds to the author s depictions of smells and textures and movements and perceives them as if they were the real thing. But this is only possible if the reader had encounter or had knowledge of the things being describe by the author. For example if an author wrote Dave took one of the lemons Cathy left in the bowl. He grabbed one of the kitchen knives, cut through the bright yellow skin, revealing the luminous fruit inside. He tilted his head back, mouth wide open, holds the peeled lemon up; squeeze it, allowing a few drops of the juice onto his tongue. The immediate reaction of anyone who s ever tasted a lemon before will be to pucker their lip as if tasting the real lemon. Also the reader will also quickly visualize the character Dave, taking the lemon from the bowl, grabbing the knife and the other things he did till the lemon juice reached his mouth. A person who s never had lemon before however might be able to visualize all the things described except for the taste of the lemon when it reached the character s mouth. • 6. Snakes are Infected with Ophidian Paramyxovirus Virus Ophidian paramyxovirus is a virus that affects snakes, particularly in the family Viperidae; it compromises the immune system, which can lead to mortality through secondary bacterial infections. This negative sense, single stranded RNA virus infects the respiratory system and can be transmitted through feces, respiratory tract secretions, fomites, or vectors such as mites; as such, in captivity, good husbandry practices are critical to prevent transmission of this disease. Paramyxovirus is a viral pathogen. The natural host and origin for this virus is unknown, but it is possible that it is not a viperid (5). The first reported outbreak of paramyxovirus in snakes was in a group of Brazilian lancehead vipers in a serpentarium in Switzerland (1). These vipers were originally from Brazil, so it is likely that the origin of the virus is found in Brazil (5). The virus itself is an RNA virus consisting of a filamentous particle enveloped in a spiked membrane, and can be between 140 and 321 nanometers in diameter. The virus replicates at an optimal temperature of 30°C, so the disease is a particular concern in colder seasons (3). This virus is easily transmitted between individuals, particularly when they are housed close to each other. It is most often transmitted through respiratory secretions (2). It can also be transmitted through aerosols, such as sputum, and oral and cloacal secretions. The virus may persist in water and may be spread through feces. It can also be ... • 7. Descartes And Descartes s Theories Of Skepticism And... Every person has a unique answer to so called life questions, but experts like Blaise Pascal and Rene Descartes have examined and reasoned with the norms of the enlightenment era. The theologians and philosophers during that time have produced such popular works that they have been used as a foundation for reason today. In Pascal s Pensees, and Descartes Discourse on Method, they take steps to examining and reflecting on their own answers to life questions. If Pascal and Descartes conversed with each other about skepticism and searching for the truth, their approaches would be different and highly critical of each other, but their conclusions would be the same. A life question is one that produces an answer entirely dependent on the individual. Descartes wrote a Discourse on Method, which is his philosophy on how to answer such questions. Pascal wrote Pensees, which is his thought process on how to answer them as well. Both Pascal and Descartes address the issue of skepticism in opposing ways. Descartes, as a skeptic, produces a thinking process to analyze doubt until the truth is found. Pascal takes a more critical approach to skeptics and reveals that a genuine skeptic has never existed. A skeptics argument to find one s purpose through natural reason is not possible, but that God will give you faith through your heart, according to Pascal. Descartes begins his journey for reason by reaching an intense state of thought. By locking himself in a room, he landed on a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Predestination In Martin Luther s Institutes Of The... The Protestant Reformation was a movement in 16th century Europe that developed many new beliefs about Christianity. Along with the man who started the Reformation, Martin Luther, John Calvin is one of the most well known and influential theologians of this time. In his highly influential book, Institutes of the Christian Religion, Calvin lays out his main beliefs about many of the major doctrines of the Christian church. One of the biggest ideas Calvin explores in this book is the relationship between humans and God in terms of predestination. Ultimately, Calvin argues that God, as the creator of the world and an inherently righteous being, holds the power of salvation and damnation as humans act in accordance with God s will. Before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Calvin gives an example of one of these potential arguments in Institutions: [God] adopts as sons those whom he foreknows will not be unworthy of his grace; he appoints to the damnation of death those whose dispositions he discerns will be inclined to evil intention and ungodliness (Institutes 932). This reasoning seems consistent with what Calvin says about predestination, and would show that as humans, our works merit our salvation. This argument aligns with what a merit theologian such as Erasmus would argue. Erasmus holds that God respects the free will of humans, and will send them to heaven or hell based on their free actions. For if God elects those who are worthy of election and damns those unworthy, it seems that we should be able to merit salvation through our actions, as theologians such as Erasmus would argue. According to Calvin, however, these critics misinterpret his teaching. The easiest argument to make, from Calvin s perspective, is that God has given to humans everything they have without them meriting any of it. The most basic example of this is that he created each man as a human in his own image rather than as an animal. This is an example that shows how God gives benefits to humans without them meriting them, and this idea can be extended to the benefit God gives the elect after they pass. According to Calvin, such benefits were given to us before the creation of the world, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of Marxism In 1984 Analyzing 1984 by George Orwell using Marxist Theory Marxist Theory focuses on the idea that whoever controls the means of production in a society controls the society and the means of production would be placed with the hands of the masses ( Marxist Theory 2). Karl Marx wrote and believed that literature was a reflection of culture and culture was affected by literature (2). 1984 by George Orwell is a dystopian novel that focuses on the life of a man named Winston Smith. The story follows how he is unhappy with the flawed, but powerful government of his home, Oceania (more specifically Airstrip 1, London) and his quest to understand and overthrow it. In this society, the Inner and Outer Party members are constantly being reminded of the Party s power and are essentially brainwashed into thinking what the Party wants them to think and do at all times. Things like propaganda, two minutes hate (rallies where Party members must watch a video of the Party s enemies and express hatred towards them), telescreens which watch the people s every move, and most importantly fear of being vaporized from their very world are what drives the citizens towards obedience and towards support for the Party. Orwell even says, Winston kept his back turned to the telescreen. It was safer, though, as he well knew, even a back can be revealing (Orwell 3). These examples show the many ways that the Party exercises its control. With all these things surrounding these people s lives, it is no wonder they live in fear and are brainwashed. All they know and will ever know is of the Party. As Marx predicted, the Party controls the means of production in Oceania, so therefore they control Oceania itself ( Marxist Theory ... • 12. How Is Danforth Justified In The Crucible In the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, many people in the town of Salem, Massachusetts are accused of witchcraft and are put to death because of it. But also during the play, the judge refuses to believe claims that the girls, who are the accusers, are lying and have not actually seen the devil. Many people are sentenced because of this. Danforth and the other authorities are so resistant to believing claims that the girls are lying because people have already been hanged, the girls are so young, and it would ruin their reputation. The first reason why the authorities might be so resistant to believing the claims is because people have already been hanged for accusations the girls have given. Danforth said this himself in act four of the play, ... twelve are already executed. When he says this he means he has already hung twelve people under the influence of the girls. • 13. Sophocles Antigone Analysis Sophocles was born 498 BC in Colonus near Athens, Greece. His father, Sophillus was a wealthy weapons maker and a leading citizen. Both birth and wealth, then, set Sophocles apart as someone likely to play an important role in Athenian society. When Sophocles was six years old, the Athenians beat the Persians at Salamis. Sophocles did not fight but he saw his house and all of Athens, including the Parthenon, burned by the Persians before the Athenians beat them. At 16 due to his youth, good looks, and performing ability, he was picked to a paean (choral chant) about the victory of the Battle of Salamis. The production involved singing, dancing, and playing the lyre. Like other Greek boys from wealthy families, Sophocles studied poetry, music, dancing, and gymnastics subjects regarded as the basis of a well rounded education for a citizen. His early schooling prepared him to serve as a leader in all aspects of public life, including the military, foreign policy, and the arts. Sophocles wrote about 120 plays. • 14. The Aftermath of World War I The aftermath of World War I left a lasting impression on the 1920s because America entered the Great War later than the big European countries. This gave them an upper hand in their economic position since they did not spend as much money as France, Germany, and Britain did. This ignited their unprecedented affluence which had a domino effect in America s society in terms of government s relationship to business. Another effect of the First World War is the Red Scare and America s prejudice and fear against the minorities shown through the immigration policies it established. These changes in the economy increased living standards, evidently seen through the consumer culture, progressive innovations, and increased consumption. This illusion of expanding prosperity came to an end with the stock market crash in 1929. This opened America s eyes to their limits which make the 1920s a decade imperative for its legacy rippled throughout our history. With the Republicans in control of the White House, the policies of promoting business while limiting government control was in favor. President Calvin Coolidge stated, The business of America was business, which was the truth as America plunged into a prosperous economic growth fueled by the consumer culture and other new ideas. Poverty involves not being able to participate in activities that most other people are able to do (Raphael 2015, Lecture). The topic of poverty connects with inequality, where living conditions produce material and social deprivation that intensively threaten health and reduce the quality of life for an exclusive subset of the population (Raphael 2011, preface). For children, this has been a disregarded subject and deserves much more attention and consideration worldwide. In health, education, and material well being, there comes this impression of children falling behind (Adamson 2010, p. 1). The second dimension of inequality is the inequality in young people s achievement through their education (Adamson 2010, p. 9). The third dimension of inequality involves three indicators that are used in children s self reported health complaints; healthy eating; and frequency of vigorous physical activity (Adamson 2010, p. 13). Through economic causes, its social costs and its possible remedies, inequality has become a major concern over the last three decades (Adamson 2010, p. 3). Inequality is an example of the changes in both the ability and effort it provides for further progress in all types of fields that engage in human endeavor (Adamson 2010, p. 3). Before the economic crisis in 2008, surveys were conducted to measure inequality and deploy data. Since well being has many dimensions, survey s were conducted favoring multidimensional measurements (Adamson 2010, p. 3). In terms of measuring the gap, based on the data that is available, there are two different methods that are used for approximating how far behind children are being allowed to fall (Adamson 2010, p. 4). The first method compares the child at the 10th percentile with the child at the 50th percentile. Then the degree of inequality is measured by the gap in between these two individuals, and that is shown as a percentage of the median position that exists. Quest for Identity in The Life of Galileo by Brecht Throughout the course of history, from era to era, mankind has been on a continuous attempt to perpetuate what they perceive as the truth; and in doing so, embark on a quest to find their true identity and place in life. One must realize that the common theme in all literature is the search for identity and belonging. Bertolt Brecht, author of The Life of Galileo, effectively uses the developing character Galileo Galilei to portray a strong message; a message which five hundred years after the fact has still not been completely comprehended. Development and change are issues which the church fears due to the fact that advancement undermine the strength of the chruch when changes are brought to religion. The church s opinion and attitude towards Galileo s discoveries are clearly outlined by Sagredo on Pg. 23 as he states: Do you think the Popes will hear your truth and say Wonderful, I m wrong. Do you think he ll even listen to you? ...When I saw you just now, at the telescope, looking at your new stars I saw you standing on burning logs. When I heard you say I believe in reason I smelt burnt flesh. (Brecht 23) What Brecht is telling us through the use of Galileo and his stubborn and persistent need to present his findings, is that even though one is presented with adversities, in Galileo s case, the church, one must continue to use reason to spread the truth. In any case, Galileo believes that religion does not necessarily have to be sacrificed in order to advance a society in terms of technology. At this point in the play, he believes that the use of reason can overcome any obstacle in the attempt to prevail the truth; in a sense, what Brecht is telling the readers through Galileo s stance against the church is that the ability to think, innovate, and propagate the truth are the key requirments that will enhance our society. Although he seems to have great insight into much of the plays main events, he seems not to have any real influence on both the plot as well as the outcome of the play. He remains the sole character who does not have any direct link with the events of the plot, coupled with an unusually early exit; this raises the question of his significance. Here the Fool warns Lear that his two daughters will have control over him due to his actions. Although Lear doesn t want to hear the truth and therefore tries to avoid it, the Fool essentially forces it out into the open through his speeches. He often uses comedic verses of saying to highlight the point he is trying to put across. In addition to this, he also provides various rhymes and riddles, taking on the role of a Chorus as a means of discussing the plays actions in a light hearted yet clearly stating the essence of what is happening. For example, the following quotation sees the Fool referring to Lear s actions concerning Cordelia: ...That man makes his toe What he his heart should make, Shall of a corn cry woe And turn his sleep to wake He refers to the way in which people may drive away those who they should love due to misplaced affection and that this will ultimately cause a person much grief and sleeplessness. • 29. Significance Of The Second Seminole War In order to understand the significance of the Second Seminole War, one must first examine the First Seminole War. Frustrated with Seminole protection of runaway slaves, Andrew Jackson and more than three thousand men entered northern Florida in 1816 and began to decimate Seminole populations. Despite most of these campaigns being unsanctioned by the United States government and protested by the British and the Spanish, Jackson was received as a war hero throughout the nation. The Adam Onis Treaty of 1819 officially transfesrred ownership of Florida from Spain to the United States (a major political victory for the United States at the time), and the deportation of the Seminoles out of the newly acquired land became of the utmost importance in 1821. After tensions between indigenous tribes and white settlers intensified, the United States government approached the Seminoles in an attempt to begin the deportation process. The first course of action was to not only quell the conflicts between the two parties in Florida, but to begin to encroach on the Seminole land and force them into reservations. This would make it all the easier when it came time to begin official removal of the Seminoles. My generation has been the most educated group of youngsters yet, and we have been granted the gift of being the first generation to grow up in the ever changing world of incredible technology. Anything we ve needed has been readily available at Wal Mart, and all of our food has been carefully stripped of pesky bugs and bacterias. We have been taught how to be successful and done everything experts say to do, from joining every club or organization we can, to maintaining immaculate grade point averages, in order to make ourselves look good on paper. This generation has been made out to seem like everything has been handed to us, that we will go out in the world to successful just because of who we are. However, this is not the case. It seems that sometimes our greatest strengths are also our greatest weaknesses. From the start of our adult lives we are weighed down with the crippling debt that comes with our education, hit with the realization that we are being thrown into an incredibly tough job market, and sliced with the double edged sword that is technology. All parents want the best for their offspring, especially when it comes to their future. However, no matter how much they prepare, no working class family can afford to shell out over 60,000 dollars for their child s college education. Kids are faced with an incredible amount of ... • 34. Comparing The Time Period Of Joseph Hansberry s The Sun As you begin to compare the time period in which A Raisin in the Sun was written, the 1950s, and now, you can find many similarities and differences regarding racial equality in the Chicagoland, even more specifically the south side. The Younger family, deriving from the African American descent, in Lorraine Hansberry s play, has trouble finding happiness when they are surrounded by successful white people, while they are stuck living in a two bedroom apartment and struggle to make ends meet. In the 1950s, it was much harder for African Americans to find jobs where they could make a substantial living to provide for their families, but in today s society the opportunities for the black race have improved immensely, although a problem with their pay grade still persists. On the other hand, the two time periods are similar in the respect that the environment on the Southside of Chicago today is very similar to what it was like almost 60 years ago. Additionally, just like in the play, police force continues to be an issue, whether that be because they favor a certain race, or police brutality; shooting people with the wrong intentions. More problems that exist today include, gang violence, protests, and segregated schools in the poorer black communities. While the Chicagoland continues to struggle with problems regarding racial equality, they have made many improvements such as the development of organizations to keep children off of the streets and out of trouble as well as ... • 35. International Financial Reporting Standards Board With the number of countries that have switched to the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) for their financial reporting, as well as the continued efforts made between the IFRS and US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP), it is evident that international convergence is an overall appealing idea for global reporting. With that said, US GAAP has worked with IFRS to create a universal standard; and while progress has been made to diminish variances between the standards, there are still large, if not unattainable, efforts ahead of us. The hype over a proposed uniform set of global accounting standards appears to be stunted by the lost efforts in the convergence project between the US GAAP and IFRS. As the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) moves forward with its standards setting, there must be a reevaluation of the goal for reporting standards and efforts with the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). Opinions regarding the optimal direction of the standard boards vary amongst regulators, practitioners, and academics. Many will argue to support continuing efforts for a uniform set of global accounting standards and believe this will drive more efficient international business. Those who are in favor of a global standard consider it to be of global best interest, and that the standard is worth pursuing for the long term benefit considering the increasing prevalence of cross border transactions. Recent global effects of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Our Identity Changes According to Where We Are and Who We... Our identity changes according to where we are and who we are with. Outside influences have a strong capability to influence and alter our personal identity. Both directly and indirectly, the social contexts in which we live can change the way we think and feel, and by extension how we interact with other people and places. Immediate family, friendship groups and the physical environment are all factors which contribute to our ever changing perceptions of ourselves. Sometimes personal identity can be subtly reshaped over a gradual time frame, as our sense of who we are is modified without personal recognition that we are changing. At other times we may be able to notice our personal identity changing, through important life decisions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is primarily our own decision to associate with a desired group of people. The way others see us, as well as the way we see ourselves can change as a result. In the movie Witness, it is evident that Rachel is quite fond of John Book. In the scene where she is dancing with him, a change in her identity becomes apparent. She steers away from all past influences from her family and religion, and is driven to act like John. She feels a need to relate to him, and is envious of his behaviour. Her behaviour then reflects a woman who is not of Amish belief, much to the dismay of her father. Where we are, in a general sense, refers to where we live. The aspects of where we are which relate to personal identity involve how the society is run, and its physical features. Different societies have a vast difference in laws, governments, religions, cultures and general ethics. These will then translate to how the people who live there choose to behave. A strict society with harsh regulations and punishments will cause people to be more reserved and controlled. A society with a high level of violence and unethical behaviour will usually cause future generations to act similarly. The physical features of a location can also influence behaviour and identity. For example, the residents of a society on the beach will have certain typical and expected behaviour, which then translates to a particular lifestyle. Identity is able to be influenced and altered by where we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Effects Of Bunker Fuel Use Over Extended Periods Of Time Effect of Bunker Fuel Use over Extended Periods of Time Introduction The South Australian Government is considering the regulation of Bunker Fuel in Port Adelaide, but it is facing a lot of pressure from shipping companies not to do so. In the future the SA Government plans on getting more cruise ships to come to Adelaide. The Government want to know how the increased uses of Bunker Fuel in Port Adelaide will affect the climate, and nearby residents. This report, will be looking at how the use of Bunker Fuel will affect the environment around it. This report will give the SA Government an idea of why they should or should not Regulate Bunker Fuel. Bunker Fuel, more commonly known as Fuel Oil is obtained from crude oil (Wisegeek, n.d.). Bunker Fuel has a large hydrocarbon chain making it very viscous (Wisegeek, n.d.). Bunker Fuel is also highly contaminated with substances that manufacturers are unable to remov (Wisegeek, n.d.). Because of this, when Bunker Fuel is burned, it creates a lot of pollution (Wisegeek, n.d.). Bunker Fuel needs to be heated before it can be used in an engine (Wisegeek, n.d.). Because of this, it can only be used in a few engines, such as those on a ship (Wisegeek, n.d.). Also, because Bunker Fuel is so dirty, it makes it very hard for most engines to burn, however, since ship engines are so large, and sophisticate it allows them to burn Bunker Fuel (Wisegeek, n.d.). Bunker Fuel is also very cheap making so that ship companies buy this over ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
